- 0:29I Hate Talking: Welcome to episode 25 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:34I Hate Talking: Hi everyone.
- 0:35I Hate Talking: So if this is your first time listening to this podcast, welcome.
- 0:40I Hate Talking: Yeah, and if this is your 25th episode, welcome to y'all too.
- 0:46I Hate Talking: Or it could be even your 26 because there was our bonus episode.
- 0:51I Hate Talking: Oh, cool.
- 0:53I Hate Talking: And there's also a few of you out there that probably heard two test episodes when we were starting this podcast, uh, but those have been since unpublished and, uh, maybe we'll have that in a bonus area someday, but, uh, for the time being, those are in our own personal possession only.
- 1:11I Hate Talking: So just hi to everybody.
- 1:12I Hate Talking: If you hear our voices, hello.
- 1:15I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 1:15I Hate Talking: We'll discover the entire world and beyond.
- 1:19I Hate Talking: So I just was downstairs and got my pickle juice so that we're ready to record.
- 1:26I Hate Talking: And uh when I was down there, I saw hundreds of ducks.
- 1:30I Hate Talking: That is, that is an extremely odd sentence.
- 1:35I Hate Talking: I was going down for my pickle juice where I saw a bunch of ducks, like the, not just a bunch, hundreds, 100s.
- 1:42I Hate Talking: Yes, 300.
- 1:43I Hate Talking: 1st, you have to address.
- 1:46I Hate Talking: You can't just say I was going to get my pickle juice cause that is so weird.
- 1:51I Hate Talking: Most people do not just drink pickle juice.
- 1:53I Hate Talking: That is true.
- 1:54I Hate Talking: Uh, if you would like to know more specifics about the pickle juice, uh, you can go back to a previous episode, and that would be episode 18 about our favorite toxic drinks.
- 2:07I Hate Talking: However, in this case, I do not consider pickle juice a toxic drink, but it is very tasty and uh gives you some extra.
- 2:15I Hate Talking: Salt and other things in terms uh of things that are critical for ketosis, which again, alluding to that, haven't talked about it yet.
- 2:25I Hate Talking: It will be a future episode for sure.
- 2:26I Hate Talking: You want to talk about it so bad.
- 2:28I Hate Talking: I know it.
- 2:29I Hate Talking: But I do have my pickle juice and I'm ready to go, so we're ready.
- 2:33I Hate Talking: OK, well, so you have your pickle juice.
- 2:36I Hate Talking: You're drinking it out of the jar.
- 2:38I Hate Talking: This is his pickle juice jar.
- 2:40I Hate Talking: And you were downstairs and you saw hundreds of ducks.
- 2:46I Hate Talking: That's correct.
- 2:48I Hate Talking: So tell us, were they real ducks?
- 2:50I Hate Talking: Were they?
- 2:51I Hate Talking: Now, these were plastic ducks and miniature in size, and they were glued to a campaign slogan.
- 3:01I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 3:03I Hate Talking: One of our children is running for something for their school, um, a leadership role, and they just happen to love duckies, rubber ducks are their fascination.
- 3:19I Hate Talking: And so they've really dived in, pun intended, to this duck theme, and they got a duck tie to wear to their campaign speech.
- 3:29I Hate Talking: They, uh, and that whole family pitched in, he envisioned this.
- 3:36I Hate Talking: He printed everything, ordered it, and we all sat there this afternoon and glued hundreds of ducks to his campaign slogan.
- 3:46I Hate Talking: Precisely, and then those will be handed out to the student body in an attempt to get some name recognition and uh belief in his platform.
- 3:56I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 3:57I Hate Talking: It's uh amazing down there.
- 4:00I Hate Talking: I was really proud of them too, all the kids for working so hard and gluing them.
- 4:05I Hate Talking: It was a really great assembly line that they developed and did it really efficiently.
- 4:11I Hate Talking: I thought it was gonna take forever and be such a mess.
- 4:15I Hate Talking: But it worked well, and you even noticed, um, a couple of the ducks were facing the opposite direction.
- 4:22I Hate Talking: All of them were facing the same way except for a few.
- 4:24I Hate Talking: And that was extremely intentional because those papers were cut off centered, and they wanted the duck to read the slogan.
- 4:34I Hate Talking: So a few of the ducks, there's only what, 3 or 4 out of hundreds that are facing the wrong way, but the rest of them were all perfectly centered and facing great.
- 4:44I Hate Talking: Well, there you go.
- 4:45I Hate Talking: So I think it's appropriate that our word or phrase of the episode is duck, and uh for those that are first-time listeners, we usually or always thus far have a word or phrase of the episode that we will talk about the definition and etymology and just common usage, -- and today's word is -- duck.
- 5:04I Hate Talking: OK, so tell us about it.
- 5:06I Hate Talking: Well, I think that the water bird uh would be well known to most people.
- 5:12I Hate Talking: It's uh basically that animal that has a blunt bill, short legs, webbed feet, and a waddling gait, according to the Oxford Language Dictionary.
- 5:23I Hate Talking: Oh cute.
- 5:24I Hate Talking: There's also, I think the familiar term that most people will know in terms of the verb duck, where you're going to get out of the way of something usually by uh moving to a lower elevation.
- 5:37I Hate Talking: So according to, again, the Oxford Dictionary, it means to move your head or body downwards to avoid being hit or seen.
- 5:45I Hate Talking: So to duck down or to duck.
- 5:48I Hate Talking: Would that come, does that derive from the animal duck?
- 5:53I Hate Talking: Cause I know, you know, I'm picturing when you say that, the ducks how they dive down under the water, would that be where it comes from?
- 6:01I Hate Talking: So that actually appears to be the exact reason that that is used as that verb is that there is duck, which is of Germanic etymology uh that means diving bird and then came to be used in the Old English as duck for that particular verb because it is a diving action.
- 6:21I Hate Talking: Nice.
- 6:23I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 6:24I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 6:24I Hate Talking: So there's actually a few other definitions for the word duck.
- 6:28I Hate Talking: There is a Mollusk that is found off the Atlantic coast of America that is called a duck and there's also an amphibious transport vehicle that is known as a duck as well.
- 6:42I Hate Talking: Those are cool.
- 6:43I Hate Talking: They're the ones that can go on land or on water, right, back and forth.
- 6:49I Hate Talking: Precisely.
- 6:50I Hate Talking: And then there are some slang usages for the word duck, and it can mean uh specifically addressed to a person usually.
- 6:59I Hate Talking: It could be one that is odd, harmless or funny, that they are an odd duck or that they are just a duck when you're talking about them being odd or funny.
- 7:09I Hate Talking: And it also can be used as a an affectionate term for one another, uh, that you would call somebody that as sort of a nickname in terms of endearment.
- 7:20I Hate Talking: Yeah, one of our nieces, that's her nickname.
- 7:23I Hate Talking: And if it's her just, when I think of that, I think of someone small and just cute and just Oh, so innocent and sweet.
- 7:32I Hate Talking: And um I don't know if that's what it means, but that's what I picture when I hear that as a term of endearment, and that's definitely what she is.
- 7:40I Hate Talking: Precisely.
- 7:41I Hate Talking: And then there is the duck emoji.
- 7:43I Hate Talking: Uh, we're not gonna go into emojis cause I don't consider them words, but in, uh, I guess everyday common usage, uh, there is a Duck that has a particular meeting within uh common usage today as well.
- 7:59I Hate Talking: So, again, going back to our kids, I um when I'm messaging them, I like, they love emojis, so I try to do them.
- 8:08I Hate Talking: And then I often will say what I mean after it, and they just roll their eyes at me like, you don't have to tell us, you already sent the picture.
- 8:17I Hate Talking: I always want to make sure people know what I mean.
- 8:20I Hate Talking: So, I always feel like I have to qualify what the picture means.
- 8:25I Hate Talking: And I guess I'll take back my words.
- 8:27I Hate Talking: We will give the definition of the duck emoji.
- 8:30I Hate Talking: According to TikTok, which I've never used TikTok, so this is where all the good information comes from.
- 8:35I Hate Talking: Yeah, it's from TikTok.
- 8:36I Hate Talking: Uh, it means, quote, you're feeling kind of shy according to this.
- 8:41I Hate Talking: So not sure if that's true or not, but there you have it.
- 8:45I Hate Talking: Well, TikTok never lies.
- 8:47I Hate Talking: Well it's from a search engine that gave me an AI generated thing from TikTok, so it's gone through all the checks and balances.
- 8:56I Hate Talking: There you go, for sure.
- 8:59I Hate Talking: Um, also, you have to be careful when you are typing, duck in or um, It is shocking the amount of Slogans or stickers, our son who loves deaths.
- 9:18I Hate Talking: Always wants stuck stickers or things like that.
- 9:22I Hate Talking: And I always have to prove him because he doesn't understand the double entendre used, but um you just have to be really careful uh that it's age appropriate and situationally appropriate.
- 9:37I Hate Talking: Precisely and actually on that particular word on the QWERTY keyboard, you're only one letter away from one word and then another letter away from a different word.
- 9:50I Hate Talking: So, uh, some things that you want to be very precise in your typing as well.
- 9:55I Hate Talking: Very good.
- 9:57I Hate Talking: So on to our main topic of this particular episode.
- 10:00I Hate Talking: Are we talking about ducks.
- 10:02I Hate Talking: Well, we are talking about ducks, and we recently were at an event where we saw a duck floating on a lake and it was hard to tell whether it was real or not.
- 10:12I Hate Talking: OK, well, that was embarrassing.
- 10:13I Hate Talking: We, we were at a friend's wedding.
- 10:17I Hate Talking: It was beautiful.
- 10:18I Hate Talking: Uh, we're so happy for the couple.
- 10:20I Hate Talking: And there was a duck in the lake.
- 10:25I Hate Talking: My friend asked me, a different friend we were sitting with, waiting for the ceremony to start, if it was a real duck.
- 10:32I Hate Talking: I was like, oh yeah, definitely.
- 10:33I Hate Talking: Both our husbands instantly were like, no, you guys, it's not real.
- 10:38I Hate Talking: And uh you both continue to explain why I was wrong, and I own it.
- 10:46I Hate Talking: That duck never moved.
- 10:47I Hate Talking: It was fake in that pond the whole night.
- 10:50I Hate Talking: But then another real bird came and then I was questioning that one, and y'all were teasing me whether it was that one was real or not.
- 10:58I Hate Talking: Yep, so it was quite windy.
- 11:00I Hate Talking: There were actually some small waves on that lake and the, uh, said duck was sort of just bobbing there, uh, not really making any particular effort to go in a certain direction.
- 11:13I Hate Talking: Maybe it was enjoying the weather and turning in all different directions and, uh, did not really appear very colorful, uh, because it did have the shape of mallard duck, uh, which I think the mallard duck does have a pretty distinguished shape.
- 11:28I Hate Talking: Um, but it was more just like a, a dull brown color, sort of featureless.
- 11:35I Hate Talking: The males are colorful, the females are more dull.
- 11:38I Hate Talking: It was a beautiful female duck watching the wedding.
- 11:41I Hate Talking: And then the real bird that you mentioned that did come about was a great blue heron and uh it is very possible to not think that those are real because uh part of their hunting.
- 11:53I Hate Talking: The procedure is to stand very, very still.
- 11:56I Hate Talking: Right.
- 11:57I Hate Talking: So then when you guys teased me about it, it was standing so still, and I couldn't recall if it was there earlier in the night or not.
- 12:05I Hate Talking: And I was not confident enough to say yes or no.
- 12:09I Hate Talking: So there you go, powers of observation are important for ducks as well.
- 12:14I Hate Talking: -- So -- yeah, so the wedding.
- 12:16I Hate Talking: It was beautiful.
- 12:18I Hate Talking: The fake duck was pleasant and nice to look at.
- 12:24I Hate Talking: We also had the opportunity to celebrate our anniversary, our wedding anniversary recently.
- 12:30I Hate Talking: And so that was um super exciting and fun, and it just made me a little nostalgic for how we met 15 years ago, and the fact that we were long distance.
- 12:45I Hate Talking: We actually only saw each other 21 calendar days before we said I do.
- 12:51I Hate Talking: Wow, 21, that is a very small number, that is smaller than I would have guessed.
- 12:57I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 12:58I Hate Talking: So, I was thinking we should talk about what it's like to be long distance, because our relationship.
- 13:05I Hate Talking: really quick, compared to uh what traditionally, I think how it goes.
- 13:11I Hate Talking: We met less than 9 months later, we're married, and like I said, only 21 actual physical days spent together, but we had hours a day of phone conversations or text messaging.
- 13:24I Hate Talking: Precisely and that I think is the biggest thing that comes to my mind in terms of a long distance relationship, uh, specifically ours, right, because that is something that we specifically do was spend a lot of time talking and that was mostly through phone calls.
- 13:42I Hate Talking: Uh, I guess at the time, right, like.
- 13:44I Hate Talking: Television phone calls was like new and something that one could do.
- 13:49I Hate Talking: So I guess we, we use Zoom or Zoom equivalent Skype Skype.
- 13:55I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 13:56I Hate Talking: So we had Skype back in the day.
- 13:58I Hate Talking: You went out and you specifically bought a webcam so we could Skype.
- 14:04I Hate Talking: And then you asked me to be your girlfriend over the webcam.
- 14:08I Hate Talking: There you have it.
- 14:09I Hate Talking: So, uh, yep, we use that uh technology and then like you mentioned, a lot of texting, um, I guess we did some email uh as well, but mainly texting was our, our form of communication addition to telephone and Skype and then those uh infrequent in person visits.
- 14:28I Hate Talking: But as I was saying, the most important thing for us in our long distance relationship was that Because we were long distance, it forced us to have conversations and to be able to talk at length so that while there may be people that are dating for a longer period of time and doing things in person, that we probably had the equivalent or even more of conversation time during our relationship leading up to our marriage.
- 14:54I Hate Talking: I think so.
- 14:55I Hate Talking: I think that's why.
- 14:57I Hate Talking: Our relationship moved so quickly was because we just had hours of getting to know each other.
- 15:05I Hate Talking: When you are physically with each other, When you're learning to date, you're usually bowling, so you're just chit chatting here and there, but you're focused on that, or you're going to the movies, so you're not really talking.
- 15:18I Hate Talking: Uh, here, if we wanted to spend time together, we had to talk.
- 15:23I Hate Talking: There was really nothing else we could, um, Occasionally we'd watch a movie together.
- 15:28I Hate Talking: We turn it on and uh watch it while we FaceTime, or I guess FaceTime wasn't a thing.
- 15:36I Hate Talking: We watched it while we Skyped.
- 15:38I Hate Talking: But that was so hard to do.
- 15:40I Hate Talking: I think we only did that a handful of times.
- 15:42I Hate Talking: So, yeah, we had to really get to know each other.
- 15:45I Hate Talking: And our thoughts and opinions about things.
- 15:48I Hate Talking: Yep, and that was probably due to the fact that at that time in technology, I don't think we really could record things on television either.
- 15:56I Hate Talking: So we were watching it live and that was what had necessitated that uh to some degree.
- 16:01I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think, I think we had to record on, it's ridiculous to say these things.
- 16:06I Hate Talking: We're not that old, but we had to record on the VHS and then I played it back when we could watch together.
- 16:14I Hate Talking: Indeed, that's uh what the technology was at that time.
- 16:18I Hate Talking: I don't even think our kids would know what a VHS was.
- 16:21I Hate Talking: They probably would not.
- 16:23I Hate Talking: I don't think they would know that term, nor would they even know what that is if they saw that particular thing.
- 16:29I Hate Talking: Uh, I guess we could do that as an experiment sometime, uh, and see what happens.
- 16:34I Hate Talking: Yeah, that sounds fine.
- 16:36I Hate Talking: So would you recommend long distance or would you avoid it at all costs?
- 16:42I Hate Talking: So I would.
- 16:44I Hate Talking: I think temper that answer based on what I would know about the person asking the question, uh, because I think that everybody has their own certain scenario and their own individual likes and dislikes and, and temperament and that it would greatly depend on what I knew about that person and their potential or existing relationship.
- 17:08I Hate Talking: I would not really take a hard line one way or the other.
- 17:12I Hate Talking: Um, I think again it would depend on the exact uh scenario and situation.
- 17:19I Hate Talking: Uh, so I would certainly recommend it to somebody that I thought it would be something that they would have success from, uh, but likewise, if I thought that they would not have success from it based on their specific situation, then I would not recommend it, but, uh.
- 17:35I Hate Talking: Certainly can work and I think that certainly the in-person relationship and uh relationship building can work as well.
- 17:42I Hate Talking: Yeah, and even though the name of this podcast is I hate Talking, obviously, I don't hate talking and you're iffy on it.
- 17:52I Hate Talking: But I think one of the things I love most about you is your brain and your critical thinking.
- 18:00I Hate Talking: And so I think that we spend a lot of our time, like right now, or other times talking to each other.
- 18:07I Hate Talking: And so I think that being long distance really was just natural for us.
- 18:12I Hate Talking: Neither of us are, we're not really big bowlers or hikers and things like that.
- 18:18I Hate Talking: Someone might want to go rock climbing, and that's how they would bond.
- 18:21I Hate Talking: But that's not necessarily how we bond when we do stuff.
- 18:25I Hate Talking: We like to get a cup of coffee and talk.
- 18:27I Hate Talking: For our dates.
- 18:29I Hate Talking: That is very true.
- 18:31I Hate Talking: Uh, I certainly, we do have some shared experience where we are doing something together and that is, uh, creating that bond as well, but yes, to your point, I think a lot of our most cherished memories are probably just, uh, conversing and that may have been through those technological means in our dating phase or it may have been.
- 18:52I Hate Talking: In person at those particular events, you know, getting a cup of coffee or having a meal or just uh lounging about wherever we may be on vacation or a date or uh within our own backyard.
- 19:05I Hate Talking: Yeah, so I think that maybe for us in long distance worked really well for us because it set us up for talking like that.
- 19:14I Hate Talking: For somebody who really does hate talking.
- 19:18I Hate Talking: I feel like long distance could be very difficult.
- 19:22I Hate Talking: Right, and we are predisposed to that being perhaps one of our core relationship functions is talking, so maybe if you are not predisposed to that, then long distance relationships may not be as easy of a thing to do.
- 19:39I Hate Talking: Right.
- 19:40I Hate Talking: And that is something that we did spend a lot of time on our anniversary trip doing was just talking.
- 19:46I Hate Talking: We, uh, I think ate very well on that particular trip, uh, enjoyed some sushi and then pizza and distillery and then I think pizza again and then uh the next day, uh, we had pizza for breakfast and then uh went and got ice cream.
- 20:05I Hate Talking: So we, we ate very well, but all the while, I think uh we're.
- 20:09I Hate Talking: Enjoying each other's conversation during those particular meal times and uh experiences as well.
- 20:17I Hate Talking: Yeah, it was so nice.
- 20:19I Hate Talking: It was very much what we needed and great for that time frame.
- 20:25I Hate Talking: We had just had a little weekend away and uh we didn't go very far from our home.
- 20:31I Hate Talking: We didn't, uh, it wasn't this extravagant big thing.
- 20:35I Hate Talking: It was just sweet.
- 20:36I Hate Talking: It was such a sweet time.
- 20:37I Hate Talking: The only things when you asked what I wanted to do, I wanted a fancy cocktail.
- 20:43I Hate Talking: And I wanted a rooftop pool.
- 20:48I Hate Talking: So you worked really hard to find that.
- 20:51I Hate Talking: And it was so cold.
- 20:54I Hate Talking: It had been so hot, the days leading up to it.
- 20:58I Hate Talking: But I refused to get out of that pool, cause this is the only thing I requested.
- 21:03I Hate Talking: Was that rooftop pool, so I sat there, even though it was so cold.
- 21:08I Hate Talking: Indeed, yeah, we had some weather roll through, I think that day, in fact, of the trip, so we weren't even sure if we were gonna have access to that pool because of poor weather conditions, but uh that did pass before we got to our destination, uh, but it did cool off significantly because of that and uh still enjoyed a lot of time on the pool deck just hanging out and then, uh, yeah, to your point did uh.
- 21:36I Hate Talking: Suit up and go to the pool and they had the lounge chairs actually in the shallow part of the water, uh, which the water was just like an inch too high, uh, and then, uh, but otherwise it was uh quite enjoyable, but it, the water was cold cause for those that know me, I will not really let that be a Thing that uh prohibits me from getting in the water, I will typically get in the water at, uh, you know, relatively cool temperatures, but, uh, even myself, I did not uh get into the pool other than to sit on the lounge chairs.
- 22:11I Hate Talking: And I wonder if the water was, like you said, it was slightly too high, and I wonder if it was because of all the rain we had a couple hours prior, that if maybe that messed up the Water levels, but I think you also were surprised that I got in the pool because, yeah, cold water doesn't bother you.
- 22:31I Hate Talking: It has to be bathwater or warmer for me to get in.
- 22:36I Hate Talking: But I was determined.
- 22:38I Hate Talking: We said we were going to do this and we did it.
- 22:41I Hate Talking: Yep, I was surprised, but uh you did it and we were there for a little while and then uh promptly headed inside after that.
- 22:48I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 22:49I Hate Talking: But, and then we had, I think after that we went and got more pizza.
- 22:53I Hate Talking: So that was why we got two sets of pizza.
- 22:55I Hate Talking: Indeed, yep, that was uh the reason.
- 22:58I Hate Talking: It was also interesting where we stayed, because there were a lot of foreign visitors, um, staying there, not a lot of Americans, and So, it was great sitting there listening to their conversations, and their thoughts on the city that we live in.
- 23:19I Hate Talking: And um they're getting their take on the USA and uh the city that we live in, and what they thought of us all.
- 23:29I Hate Talking: Yeah, that was interesting.
- 23:31I Hate Talking: And also we witnessed live, I guess the uh legal dispute between ESPN and the TV service providers I guess DirecTV, um, I think Disney was actually maybe in that as well, I guess they own ESPN that would be the reason.
- 23:47I Hate Talking: Um, but yeah, they pulled that while we were actually uh at one of those eateries and uh.
- 23:54I Hate Talking: Basically, every channel that that particular establishment had going, which I guess they were showing some of the Paralympics and some of the other stuff going on, a lot of sports type stuff.
- 24:06I Hate Talking: Uh, every single TV uh went to that screen that said there was a legal dispute.
- 24:11I Hate Talking: So the uh the owner of the establishment, I guess was uh watching some of those games.
- 24:16I Hate Talking: I think there was a relatively large football game on at the time and uh they weren't able to finish watching that, so.
- 24:22I Hate Talking: Uh, they did have one channel available, so they put all the TVs on that one channel.
- 24:28I Hate Talking: Yeah, it was really crazy that we were sitting there.
- 24:31I Hate Talking: We weren't very invested in what was playing.
- 24:33I Hate Talking: But, um, it was hard to miss that all the screens went to that and um announcement.
- 24:42I Hate Talking: So like it caught our attention because, like, oh, what is going on?
- 24:46I Hate Talking: Is there an emergency or whatnot.
- 24:48I Hate Talking: And then everyone started pulling out their phones to fact check and see what's happening.
- 24:54I Hate Talking: And yeah, even the owner was like, well, I guess this is what we're doing, guys.
- 24:58I Hate Talking: Indeed, so, uh, yeah, I think in terms of the, the conversations, right, uh, again, we had a lot of good conversations during that time and uh good conversations during this podcast and uh this episode as well as the 25 or uh previous episodes that we've had.
- 25:16I Hate Talking: Yeah, it's been great.
- 25:18I Hate Talking: So now being married and in person, do you find that we have more or less time for conversation than in our dating phase?
- 25:27I Hate Talking: Well, definitely less.
- 25:29I Hate Talking: Um, some of that is because we have a bunch of young people that live in our home.
- 25:34I Hate Talking: And so even when we talk, we all, we have to stop.
- 25:40I Hate Talking: And even again tonight, I had to say it to one of our children, like, we're gonna talk to you in a minute.
- 25:45I Hate Talking: Mom and dad are talking.
- 25:47I Hate Talking: And um they want to be in the conversations with us, and we love having them in the conversations with us.
- 25:54I Hate Talking: But sometimes we have to make a plan about something or go through the schedule for the week, is what we were doing.
- 26:01I Hate Talking: And they wanted to show us something.
- 26:03I Hate Talking: So having them stop and wait.
- 26:05I Hate Talking: It is important, and sometimes, obviously, we can stop what we're doing.
- 26:10I Hate Talking: So, we do stop a lot of what we're doing, often attend to them or talk to them.
- 26:15I Hate Talking: So that cuts into our time talking.
- 26:19I Hate Talking: When you travel for work, We talk a lot more, I feel like, because once again, that's the only time we get that connection.
- 26:28I Hate Talking: And we have to be intentional about it.
- 26:31I Hate Talking: I think that's a big thing too is I set aside, you're gonna call me at such and such time and we'll talk for that 30 minutes.
- 26:37I Hate Talking: So I think when you're thinking of like, Concrete time.
- 26:42I Hate Talking: Like quality over quantity.
- 26:46I Hate Talking: I think we talk more when you're traveling.
- 26:49I Hate Talking: Or back then, beforehand because we had to set that time aside.
- 26:55I Hate Talking: As you can tell when you're on the phone to somebody and they're busy doing something else.
- 27:00I Hate Talking: That seems super It can be hurtful or um it just seems like you're not important to them.
- 27:06I Hate Talking: So we always try to stop what we're doing to talk.
- 27:11I Hate Talking: But then when we get together in person, it is easy to sit aside each other with our phones in our hands, or get distracted very easy doing something else.
- 27:21I Hate Talking: Right, or like you said, not set that specific time frame aside, which that actually was something that we discussed in episode 4 back when we launched and that was actually one of the most popular episodes from our launch episodes on when can we talk?
- 27:39I Hate Talking: Hm.
- 27:39I Hate Talking: So perhaps some things that if you are dating in person, that you do want to emphasize the importance of conversation and set aside specific times and perhaps we can do the same in our relationship today when we don't have those opportunities for long distance conversations.
- 27:59I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think that's um healthy for anyone, whether they are long distance or just dating locally or married.
- 28:08I Hate Talking: Just saying you are important to me, so let's set this time aside.
- 28:13I Hate Talking: We don't have to worry about the dishes getting washed.
- 28:15I Hate Talking: We don't have to worry about the yard being tidied or whatnot, but we're gonna look at each other and talk.
- 28:22I Hate Talking: And that puts us on that journey to understanding.
- 28:25I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 28:26I Hate Talking: So, from your friends at I Hate Talking, until next time, remember, it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understand.
