- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show, live from the WOR LifeVac studios. Well,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Michael Goodwin, the finest columnist in America. You can read
- 0:13Speaker 1: him every Sunday, every Wednesday in the New York Post.
- 0:16Speaker 1: If you go to the New York Post website, all
- 0:17Speaker 1: of his columns are up there. Michael Goodwin, how you doing?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Hey, Mamdani wants to go to the 9-11 ceremony. He
- 0:29Speaker 1: hands the pen that he signed the thing with to
- 0:31Speaker 1: the terrorist lawyer. What is he up to? Is this
- 0:34Speaker 1: guy plotting something?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Well, I think he's up to what exactly we think
- 0:40Speaker 2: he's up to, which is changing everything about New York.
- 0:46Speaker 2: And 9-11, of course, is kind of a sanctified event
- 0:51Speaker 2: and has been. And, of course, his presence is is
- 0:56Speaker 2: potentially disruptive, but it's very hurtful for many of those
- 1:01Speaker 2: people who did lose relatives and friends on 9-11 because Mamdani,
- 1:09Speaker 2: his positions on terrorism and these things are not entirely clear.
- 1:17Speaker 2: He has left lots of room for doubt and suspicions
- 1:22Speaker 2: about his true feelings and about his deepest allegiance.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So, but the thing with the pen, he was signing
- 1:31Speaker 1: a bill to fight terrorism by handing the pen to
- 1:35Speaker 1: the terrorist lawyer who was like 26 people down. Was
- 1:38Speaker 1: that a signal to his base? Don't worry, I'm not
- 1:40Speaker 1: really into this fight against terrorism.
- 1:42Speaker 2: You know, Mark, that's a very good way to look
- 1:47Speaker 2: at it. It does, I think, legitimately raise a question.
- 1:52Speaker 2: about his motive in doing that. I mean, it was
- 1:55Speaker 2: a very awkward gesture that he did. People actually say
- 2:00Speaker 2: it had to be passed along a line. So why
- 2:03Speaker 2: that lawyer? He never explained that. And that's the sort
- 2:08Speaker 2: of thing about him that undercuts any desire he might
- 2:14Speaker 2: or might not have to sort of reconcile with all
- 2:18Speaker 2: those people who don't trust him. Virtually everything he does
- 2:23Speaker 2: simply adds to the distrust. He doesn't seem, when he talks,
- 2:29Speaker 2: my feeling, Mark, when he talks, he's always talking to
- 2:33Speaker 2: his committed base. He's never talking to anybody who isn't
- 2:38Speaker 2: with him. He's never reaching out to talk to people
- 2:43Speaker 2: who don't already agree with him on virtually everything. That
- 2:47Speaker 2: is not how you build trust. a city, an administration.
- 2:52Speaker 2: And here we are, well into his term, and yet
- 2:58Speaker 2: he still is campaigning virtually every day.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah, this anti-Semitism in the democratic world, was it always
- 3:07Speaker 1: there and we didn't notice? Or why is it all
- 3:09Speaker 1: of a sudden going crazy?
- 3:14Speaker 2: I think there was clearly a latent seed of it
- 3:17Speaker 2: But it goes back many years, I think, because when
- 3:22Speaker 2: I was sort of coming of age in New York
- 3:25Speaker 2: and with the world news, the Democrats were the party
- 3:31Speaker 2: that favored Israel. They were always the most supportive, and
- 3:37Speaker 2: there were always many more Jewish Americans in the Democratic
- 3:42Speaker 2: Party than the Republican Party. The Democrats have been, let's
- 3:47Speaker 2: face it, taken over, hijacked by the Mandani wing, and
- 3:54Speaker 2: that many of it is foreign-born. Many of it sort
- 3:58Speaker 2: of come to America but don't appreciate America. I mean,
- 4:03Speaker 2: when you think about Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, what
- 4:07Speaker 2: did she say? Some people did something on 9-11, right?
- 4:12Speaker 2: Some people did something. That, I think, is an un-American statement.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Because those of us who were here, it wasn't some
- 4:24Speaker 2: people did something. It was something evil that was done
- 4:29Speaker 2: to New York.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Yeah. We're talking about Michael Goodwin. But this anti-Semitism. And
- 4:34Speaker 1: then you wrote about the Met Gala where this awful
- 4:37Speaker 1: Anna Wintour picks as the honoree. the most vile anti-Semite
- 4:42Speaker 1: who's been convicted of hate crimes against Jews. What was
- 4:48Speaker 1: she thinking picking this guy? Or is it just tell
- 4:50Speaker 1: us who she really is?
- 4:53Speaker 2: Well, that's a good question, Mark. It seems to me
- 4:58Speaker 2: that there were ample warnings to her. Some unhappy parts
- 5:06Speaker 2: of the inner circle of the Met Museum, some of
- 5:09Speaker 2: the board members, So how she ran through all the
- 5:12Speaker 2: red lights is kind of amazing, and how the Met
- 5:16Speaker 2: itself didn't say, no, no, no, no, no, this is
- 5:19Speaker 2: not going to work. So, look, you can be so
- 5:25Speaker 2: cosseted by wealth, by sort of layers of people between
- 5:31Speaker 2: you and ordinary people, that you become immune to what
- 5:36Speaker 2: is obvious to most people. I think that's what happened here.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I don't describe it to any kind of villainy, just
- 5:44Speaker 2: out of touch, totally out of touch by choice. Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But this guy, this designer she picked, it's not like
- 5:51Speaker 1: he was caught hanging out with Hassan Piker. He was
- 5:54Speaker 1: caught on video screaming at Jews, Hitler was right, you
- 5:58Speaker 1: should be gassed. He was convicted of a hate crime.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 1: How did the board of the Met, how did they
- 6:04Speaker 1: even allow this to go ahead?
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think the inner workings of the
- 6:10Speaker 2: Met are something of a mystery to most of us, right?
- 6:15Speaker 2: I mean, it's an elite establishment institution, and that system
- 6:22Speaker 2: failed the Met. It did not produce the right result.
- 6:27Speaker 2: This was even announced as the greatest example of failure.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You know, if she were up, if Anna Wintour or
- 6:37Speaker 2: the Met were a politician, the campaign would be over now.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Well, unless she ran as a Democrat.
- 6:46Speaker 2: That's a good one, yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Michael Goodwin's every Sunday and every Wednesday in the New
- 6:51Speaker 1: York Post. What do you got on, what are you
- 6:54Speaker 1: thinking about for tomorrow?
- 6:56Speaker 2: Well, 9-11, of course, coming up, the 25th anniversary of
- 7:02Speaker 2: you know, uh, you know, Mark, September 11th is my birthday. And, uh,
- 7:08Speaker 2: I've often said, you know, uh, I, since I don't
- 7:12Speaker 2: celebrate them, I don't count them. Uh, so I'm ageless now.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Wow. And, uh, what do you, obviously Mamdani says he's going,
- 7:22Speaker 1: obviously the family will turn their back on him. Uh,
- 7:26Speaker 1: And you think that's going to be all? Or is
- 7:28Speaker 1: he going to pull something there? Is he going to
- 7:29Speaker 1: try something there, say something? What do you think?
- 7:33Speaker 2: Well, I think the release of his order today on
- 7:40Speaker 2: the records, the health records, is something that I think
- 7:46Speaker 2: sets him apart from the previous mayors. And it may
- 7:51Speaker 2: be a thing. We'll see how it plays out. but
- 7:55Speaker 2: it may be something that gives him a place of
- 8:00Speaker 2: support among some family members because this health issue, the
- 8:07Speaker 2: events of Ground Zero, the neighborhood people got sick, and
- 8:12Speaker 2: there has been a long clamoring for all of the documents.
- 8:18Speaker 2: What did the city know and when did it know it?
- 8:20Speaker 2: What did the state know? What did the feds know?
- 8:24Speaker 2: And so we will see if there is some movement
- 8:30Speaker 2: of public opinion as a result of his order to
- 8:34Speaker 2: set up this portal so that the public can see
- 8:38Speaker 2: the documents for themselves. Now, are the smoking gun documents?
- 8:44Speaker 2: I have no way of knowing. Some people believe there
- 8:48Speaker 2: are such things, but I wonder because... The core event
- 8:56Speaker 2: of 9-11 is a terrorist attack on New York City
- 9:01Speaker 2: and America. To say what happened afterwards is somehow the core,
- 9:07Speaker 2: I think, is wishful thinking on the Mondani team's part. Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Well, we'll be reading the column tomorrow. You can read
- 9:16Speaker 1: Michael Goodwin's column every Sunday, every Wednesday in the New
- 9:20Speaker 1: York Post. And if you missed any, all his columns
- 9:23Speaker 1: are up. On the New York Post website. Michael Goodwin,
- 9:26Speaker 1: great as always. Thanks for being with us.
- 9:29Speaker 2: My pleasure, Mark. Thank you.
