  Speaker 3: to the show.
• 3:12
Speaker 6: Good morning, how you doing you doing?
• 3:15
Speaker 7: Okay, it is too cold this morning's well, it's you know,
• 3:20
Speaker 7: it's spring in West Virginia, and pretty soon you'll be
• 3:24
Speaker 7: doing these segments saying it's hot in West Virginia.
• 3:27
  Speaker 3: It's hot.
• 3:27
  Speaker 8: Yeah, it's hot.
• 3:28
Speaker 3: It's all right now. As always, our pets picture posted
• 3:31
Speaker 3: on Dave Island Radio and Facebook and at Dave A
• 3:33
Speaker 3: seventy on X. This time you listen to the people,
• 3:38
Speaker 3: Miss Gillingwater, and you have provided us with a cat
• 3:41
Speaker 3: this time. A texture to the show last week said
• 3:43
Speaker 3: why don't you do more cats? Here we go. We've
• 3:46
Speaker 3: got miss Girl. Love the name Miss Girl. Tell us
• 3:49
Speaker 3: the story of miss Girl, Miss Gillingwater.
• 3:53
Speaker 6: First of all, you're talking to the cat lady here,
• 3:55
Speaker 6: so I will bring as many cats as I can.
• 3:58
Speaker 3: Okay, hold on, hold on, hold one secon oh, hold
• 4:00
Speaker 3: on Okay, Because someone called the show and texted the
• 4:04
Speaker 3: show and said I referred to somebody as a crazy
• 4:06
Speaker 3: cat lady a couple of weeks ago, like it was
• 4:08
Speaker 3: a derogatory term. Did you call yourself a crazy cat lady.
• 4:12
Speaker 6: I absolutely did, and I wear that badge proutl.
• 4:14
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, because look, I'm a crazy cat guy, so
• 4:17
Speaker 3: I'm not gonna I'm not gonna say anything derogatory. So
• 4:19
Speaker 3: maybe it was I've racked my brain trying to figure
• 4:22
Speaker 3: out what and when I said it, So maybe it
• 4:24
Speaker 3: was you referring to yourself as a as a crazy
• 4:26
Speaker 3: cat lady. All right, but go ahead, tell us the
• 4:28
Speaker 3: story of miss Girl.
• 4:30
Speaker 6: So this girl came to you our shelter as astray
• 4:33
Speaker 6: a couple weeks ago, like February sometime. She was very,
• 4:37
Speaker 6: very emaciated, weighing about three to four pounds as a
• 4:41
Speaker 6: one year old cat. So our teen jumped in. We
• 4:44
Speaker 6: got her all fat and sassy, and now she's up
• 4:48
Speaker 6: to wopping six pounds. And like I said, she's a
• 4:52
Speaker 6: year old. She's already stayed, ready, ready to go up
• 4:55
Speaker 6: to date on vaccines, and she's actually living at what
• 4:58
Speaker 6: we call our pet Co Pit house in south Bridge.
• 5:01
Speaker 3: I love it, the pet Go penhouse. I like that
• 5:03
Speaker 3: now that it's a beautiful cat. And by the way,
• 5:06
Speaker 3: like you know I said, you can go over to
• 5:07
Speaker 3: my Facebook page or my ex page and take a
• 5:10
Speaker 3: look at the cat. What do you call that particular No,
• 5:14
Speaker 3: I don't say breed of cat. We may not know
• 5:16
Speaker 3: the breed, But what do you call that color of
• 5:17
Speaker 3: cat with those markings?
• 5:19
Speaker 6: So that is technically a tortoise shell cat, and a
• 5:22
Speaker 6: lot of people nicknamed those as like the torty cats,
• 5:25
Speaker 6: And there's a saying going around that torties have torty two.
• 5:29
Speaker 6: But she certainly does not. She is such a sweet girl.
• 5:32
Speaker 3: We were talking in our office that I share upstairs
• 5:35
Speaker 3: with a couple of other folks, and we have a
• 5:37
Speaker 3: couple we do have a couple of crazy cat ladies
• 5:39
Speaker 3: up there. I'll call them that, okay, because and they're
• 5:41
Speaker 3: like you, Angie, they don't own that. But they were
• 5:44
Speaker 3: talking about earlier about the different, you know, colors of
• 5:47
Speaker 3: cats and so on and so forth, and one of
• 5:49
Speaker 3: them said that, like the orange cats seem to have
• 5:53
Speaker 3: a little bit more attitude. I've heard about Siamese cats.
• 5:56
Speaker 3: Is there any any truth to the actual color of
• 5:59
Speaker 3: the cat as to their attitude?
• 6:02
Speaker 6: I don't think that there's any like scientific research and
• 6:05
Speaker 6: data that proves that. However, I will say personally, the
• 6:09
Speaker 6: cats that I see where I work, orange cats typically
• 6:13
Speaker 6: have no brain cells. They are very silly, very silly,
• 6:17
Speaker 6: very funny, and like I said, toties typically have that
• 6:20
Speaker 6: toirty tude, but miss Girl has deio.
• 6:23
Speaker 3: I like that Toty two I like And the fact
• 6:25
Speaker 3: that the orangees have no brain cells probably says that
• 6:28
Speaker 3: if there's reincarnation, I'll come back as an orange cat.
• 6:30
Speaker 3: I'm excited about that going on. But Nave Allen Show

• 6:56
Speaker 3: Miss Girl in a moment. Angie, how are we looking
• 6:58
Speaker 3: on numbers at the shelter?
• 7:00
Speaker 6: We are full, full, full, full on puppies. Last project,
• 7:04
Speaker 6: we had almost one hundred puppies in the shelter, which
• 7:08
Speaker 6: is a way over what we can take care of.
• 7:10
Speaker 6: So if you have thought about having a puppy to
• 7:13
Speaker 6: your home, please please.
• 7:15
  Speaker 9: Come get one.
• 7:16
Speaker 6: We are begging, thieve what at this point?
• 7:18
Speaker 3: Now is the time to do that. And with spring
• 7:20
Speaker 3: officially here, although you know, I know it doesn't really
• 7:22
Speaker 3: feel like it right now, great time to go get
• 7:25
Speaker 3: a dog and take them on walks in the park
• 7:27
Speaker 3: and get them, get them out there and do all
• 7:29
Speaker 3: the things. I know you guys are excited about a
• 7:32
Speaker 3: couple of big events. One of those happening and I
• 7:34
Speaker 3: saw this on your social media happening at the Clay Center.
• 7:37
Speaker 3: It's called the Psychology of Dogs and they're calling it
• 7:41
Speaker 3: Brains Bark and Best Friends. Informations available about it on
• 7:46
Speaker 3: the Kana Trostmumaine Association's Facebook page. What can tell me
• 7:51
  Speaker 3: about the event?
• 7:53
Speaker 6: So we were invited obviously because it is dog related
• 7:57
Speaker 6: and we were super excited to do that. It's basically
• 8:01
Speaker 6: they're going to be speaking and getting inside the mind
• 8:04
Speaker 6: of a dog and how they think and process the
• 8:07
Speaker 6: world around them, which if you have a dog sometimes
• 8:11
Speaker 6: you know you kind of wonder what is going on
• 8:13
Speaker 6: in there. So this is just going to take a
• 8:15
Speaker 6: deep dive into the brain of a dog.
• 8:18
Speaker 3: That ought to be interesting. How come they never do
• 8:19
  Speaker 3: that with cats?
• 8:20
Speaker 6: Angie, there actually is one four cats they have not
• 8:25
Speaker 6: I don't think they've made it to the Clay Center
• 8:27
Speaker 6: quite yet. But not to spoil anything, but I'm sure
• 8:29
  Speaker 6: that they'll.
• 8:29
Speaker 3: Be cro It might it might be interesting to get
• 8:32
Speaker 3: into the brains of cats, or more importantly, cats would
• 8:35
Speaker 3: want to get into your brain. You know, that's what
• 8:37
Speaker 3: they would do because cats. The difference between dogs and
• 8:40
Speaker 3: cats is cats choose you, you know, strays or whatever.
• 8:43
Speaker 3: That's the My wife, you know, we have two cats.
• 8:45
Speaker 3: They both came into strays. They both showed up at
• 8:47
Speaker 3: our door and said, well, I'm here, what are you
• 8:48
Speaker 3: gonna do about it? It's the way it happened at
• 8:51
Speaker 3: our house. Also, and again, information about all this is
• 8:54
Speaker 3: available on your social media. I do know Tuxes and
• 8:56
Speaker 3: tails will be coming up soon as well.
• 8:59
Speaker 6: Absolutely it is. Tickets are on sale and you definitely
• 9:02
Speaker 6: want to get them before they sell out. If you
• 9:05
Speaker 6: can't tells that still want to help tell everybody you.
• 9:09
Speaker 3: Know about all right, and you will let you get
• 9:13
Speaker 3: right back to it. Hopefully you warm up a little bit.
• 9:15
Speaker 3: All right, We'll talk again next week. Thanks a lot
• 9:18
Speaker 3: alrighty have a good one you as well. Angie Gillan
• 9:20
Speaker 3: Wanter from the Kenaal Charstity Maine Association. Again, our pet
• 9:24
Speaker 3: of the week this week is a cat. We listen
• 9:27
Speaker 3: to the people who said you don't have enough cats
• 9:29
Speaker 3: on there, so we got us a cat this week.
• 9:32
Speaker 3: Beautiful beautiful girl. Her name is Miss Girl and she
• 9:36
Speaker 3: came to the shelter out of the Dunbar area. She
• 9:39
Speaker 3: came into the stray very emaciated. Uh they've fattened her
• 9:42
Speaker 3: up to a grand total of about six pounds now,
• 9:44
Speaker 3: but she's doing really well. One year old. She's spade,
• 9:47
Speaker 3: she's vaccinated and if you want to see her, she's
• 9:50
Speaker 3: currently residing. And I didn't know it had a name.
• 9:53
Speaker 3: I've seen, you know, at these pet stores when they
• 9:56
Speaker 3: have the animals there, but I did not know it
• 9:57
Speaker 3: was referred to as the Petco Penhouse out at South Ridge.
• 10:01
Speaker 3: And she's a very very chatty cat. He loves to
• 10:04
Speaker 3: the cat much to chat, I should say, like much
• 10:07
Speaker 3: like one of the ones that my wife and I have.
• 10:09
Speaker 3: That's why we named our cat Whaling, because that's what
• 10:12
Speaker 3: he's always doing. He's wailing on about something. But again,
• 10:16
Speaker 3: Miss girl picture posted over on my social media, Dave

Speaker 3: that we learned today from Angie. Go take a look

Speaker 3: Craig Allison. Craig, good morning, welcome to the show.
• 14:44
Speaker 4: Hey Dave, thank you for having me this morning, Thank you.
• 14:46
Speaker 3: For being here. So what is it about spring that
• 14:49
Speaker 3: makes people want to go off and get married?
• 14:52
Speaker 5: The flowers, the vibe, the weather, it's beautiful outside. We're
• 14:56
Speaker 5: getting to that time of year and we love their
• 15:00
Speaker 5: summer weddings, but they also love their fall weddings. And
• 15:02
Speaker 5: now's the time that people book them. People book them
• 15:05
  Speaker 5: a year out.
• 15:06
Speaker 3: So that's a good point, you know. I mean, people
• 15:08
Speaker 3: aren't actually going to be getting married at this wedding expo,
• 15:11
Speaker 3: but there is something about there. You do see a
• 15:13
Speaker 3: lot of spring and summer weddings, but there's a lot
• 15:15
Speaker 3: of fall weddings too, sure, and so now would be
• 15:17
Speaker 3: the time to start playing you gonna have it all
• 15:20
Speaker 3: I guess in one place there, right, Yeah.
• 15:21
Speaker 4: So Hell Street Center opened back in twenty nineteen.
• 15:25
Speaker 5: And COVID hit so great timing, yeah, perfect timing wedding
• 15:29
Speaker 5: venue down to COVID. So we decided to have a
• 15:33
Speaker 5: small wedding expo back in twenty twenty and we had
• 15:37
Speaker 5: a lot of vendors there and it was pretty successful.
• 15:40
Speaker 5: You know, skip forward a few years being busy, and
• 15:43
Speaker 5: then you know, the Charleston Civic Center had to cancel
• 15:47
Speaker 5: the wedding expo due to weather this year, and they
• 15:49
Speaker 5: did do such a wonderful job over there that they're
• 15:52
Speaker 5: they're so busy there just wasn't space to rebook it
• 15:55
Speaker 5: because they're so packed full of events. And so I
• 15:58
Speaker 5: was having a conversation with Jackie step from these steps
• 16:00
Speaker 5: to the new look, and he had attended the last
• 16:04
Speaker 5: time and was successful. So we talked about getting another expo,
• 16:09
Speaker 5: and we were really looking to have an annual one
• 16:11
Speaker 5: kind of in the fall, early fall, late summer, but
• 16:14
Speaker 5: with this one being canceled, we decided to go ahead
• 16:17
Speaker 5: and push it through kind of catch the beginning of
• 16:20
Speaker 5: all the events this year.
• 16:21
Speaker 4: So we started working.
• 16:24
Speaker 5: Jack was wonderful, contacting a lot of these vendors, and
• 16:26
Speaker 5: we have about twenty five vendors. We have everything from
• 16:30
Speaker 5: obviously where the venue, Hell Street Center. We have real
• 16:33
Speaker 5: estate company. We have a few DJs, Triple A and
• 16:37
  Speaker 5: Broadably Live DJ.
• 16:39
  Speaker 4: We've got photographers.
• 16:40
Speaker 5: We got Baker's Bridles, we got David's Bridal Boutique by
• 16:45
Speaker 5: Belle gen Nance Bridle Nandell's Tuxedos, obviously Easteps, the New Look.
• 16:51
Speaker 5: We have videographers, several caterers, we have all the big
• 16:56
Speaker 5: forests in town, several planners, travel agents, and then we've
• 17:02
Speaker 5: got several miscellaneous vendors. So a little bit for everybody,
• 17:06
Speaker 5: you know, from pre wedding to wedding to actually plan afterwards.
• 17:10
Speaker 3: Talking to get into Greg Allison about this wedding ex
• 17:12
Speaker 3: both that's happening on Sunday, to day Volance showing five
• 17:14
Speaker 3: any Live brought to you in part by Morgan to Morgan,
• 17:16
Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm. So I mean, again, you know,
• 17:20
Speaker 3: you got it all into one roof man, and it's
• 17:22
Speaker 3: a big deal with a lot of these weddings, I
• 17:23
Speaker 3: mean what people put into them, you know, as you said,
• 17:26
Speaker 3: from the photographers and the caterers and DJ there's a lot,
• 17:30
Speaker 3: there's a lot that goes into it.
• 17:31
Speaker 5: So and for that reason, you know, and and you know,
• 17:35
Speaker 5: with the cancelation last minute due to weather of the
• 17:38
Speaker 5: big one in town, we're not charging for admission, so
• 17:42
Speaker 5: it's free to come.
• 17:43
  Speaker 4: Now.
• 17:44
Speaker 5: We do welcome you to make a voluntary donation to
• 17:47
Speaker 5: the West Virginia Breast Health Initiative, and she'll be there
• 17:49
Speaker 5: at the door to collect the voluntary donation.
• 17:52
Speaker 3: But voluntary you can voluntarily if you do decide to give,
• 17:55
Speaker 3: give as little or as much as you want.
• 17:57
Speaker 4: You know, for cancer awareness.
• 17:59
Speaker 5: And then you know, for the guys that say, well
• 18:01
Speaker 5: there's never anything for me to do, we will have
• 18:04
  Speaker 5: a cash bar.
• 18:05
Speaker 4: On each floor. So I love that.
• 18:07
  Speaker 13: I love that.
• 18:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, they need their spirits to kind of move them
• 18:10
Speaker 4: along talk to vendors.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, I could I just see and I'm gonna be
• 18:14
Speaker 3: this is gonna sound really sexist to me, but that's okay.
• 18:17
Speaker 3: So I could just see the potential bride coming up
• 18:19
Speaker 3: to the groom and saying, well, what do you think
• 18:21
Speaker 3: about this? And here have a drink, let.
• 18:24
Speaker 5: Me get and then you know, we'll have the ball
• 18:29
Speaker 5: Stead room of the Hell Street Center. We do brunch
• 18:31
Speaker 5: on Sunday, so that they'll be open for brunch ten
• 18:33
Speaker 5: to four, so somebody wants to grab brunch before or
• 18:36
Speaker 5: after they visit the expo.
• 18:38
Speaker 3: I want to plan on having some access to the
• 18:40
Speaker 3: NCAA tournament games on there too.
• 18:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, we have TVs.
• 18:43
Speaker 3: Okay, just just just make it short, make it sure.
• 18:45
Speaker 3: It is March, March, March maddness time. Uh, that's great
• 18:49
Speaker 3: that you have all this stuff going on. And don't
• 18:51
Speaker 3: kid yourself. The wedding business is a billion dollar a
• 18:56
  Speaker 3: year business.
• 18:57
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you know, I'm one of the owners and
• 19:01
Speaker 5: we do a lot of stuff there, you know. So
• 19:04
Speaker 5: I'm a real estate broker, so Zillow is a big
• 19:08
Speaker 5: conglomerate in the real estate industry. So thenot is the
• 19:10
Speaker 5: same equal in the wedding industry.
• 19:13
  Speaker 4: And you know.
• 19:13
Speaker 5: Over the years, we have won the Notts Best of
• 19:16
Speaker 5: Weddings back to back to back, West Virginia Magazine's Best
• 19:21
Speaker 5: Historic Venue in the State, Wedding Wires, Couple's Choice Award,
• 19:25
Speaker 5: Best in the Valley. So we won all kinds of awards.
• 19:29
Speaker 5: And some of our other vendors that we're having like
• 19:31
  Speaker 5: Triple A and.
• 19:32
Speaker 3: J BRABA, DJ that's my buddy JK JK.
• 19:38
Speaker 4: JK is a great guy.
• 19:39
Speaker 3: He is, He's a very good friend.
• 19:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, we we partner with him quite a bit at
• 19:43
Speaker 5: the Hell Street Center. So it's just such a big industry,
• 19:48
Speaker 5: and you know, the things in life that don't change.
• 19:52
Speaker 5: People get married, you know, people buy houses, people die,
• 19:55
Speaker 5: you know, So it's there's all the wedding industries is
• 19:59
Speaker 5: one of to be in talk.
• 20:01
Speaker 3: About what the some of the current trends are in weddings,
• 20:04
Speaker 3: because things change. I mean, you know, you get a
• 20:07
Speaker 3: wedding that I was talking to a couple a couple
• 20:10
Speaker 3: of weeks ago that were married and I was a
• 20:12
Speaker 3: kid when I went to their wedding. It was like
• 20:13
Speaker 3: eighty eighty one or so. And I was talking to
• 20:17
Speaker 3: them and I was saying, they're still married. And I
• 20:18
Speaker 3: was talking to them. I was saying, I remember going
• 20:20
Speaker 3: to your wedding as a kid, thinking that's a whole
• 20:22
Speaker 3: lot of blue, fluffy tuxedo type things. That's just that
• 20:26
Speaker 3: was the thing, you know, back in the seventies and eighties.
• 20:29
Speaker 3: But what are some of the current if for those
• 20:32
Speaker 3: of us that have been married in a while, you know,
• 20:34
Speaker 3: I've been married thirty two years. What are some of
• 20:37
Speaker 3: the current trends. What's new stuff in the in the
• 20:40
Speaker 3: in the world of way.
• 20:41
Speaker 4: You know, the boho theme has been the last couple
• 20:44
  Speaker 4: of years.
• 20:45
Speaker 3: Explain what that is.
• 20:49
Speaker 4: It's hard to explain for me. Uh, it's just it's
• 20:53
Speaker 4: just a look, there's pastel collars.
• 20:55
Speaker 3: They come close with the microphone. They don't get to.
• 20:57
Speaker 5: Tell callers your class looks still there.
• 21:01
Speaker 4: And people do all kinds.
• 21:02
Speaker 5: There's all kinds of trends, you know, from you know,
• 21:04
Speaker 5: people go to hotels, they go to the barns. Those
• 21:07
Speaker 5: have been trends the last few years. We offer something
• 21:10
Speaker 5: a little different, kind of call it industrial chic.
• 21:13
  Speaker 3: Industrial chic.
• 21:14
Speaker 5: I got that New York bricks and steel and tim sillings.
• 21:19
Speaker 5: You know, a few years it was almost always people
• 21:21
Speaker 5: booked the year ahead of time, some years two years
• 21:23
Speaker 5: ahead of times. So we do see last minute weddings. Nowadays,
• 21:27
Speaker 5: people will will get married and maybe run off to
• 21:31
Speaker 5: the courthouse or do it somewhere, but then they want
• 21:32
Speaker 5: to have a reception.
• 21:33
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's very people. But I've known people that have
• 21:35
Speaker 3: done that. Yeah, they because you know, at the end
• 21:36
Speaker 3: of the day, you just get the same piece of paper.
• 21:38
Speaker 3: You know, whether you're married at a church or whether
• 21:40
Speaker 3: married in front of a judge or whatever. Uh, in
• 21:43
Speaker 3: the eyes of the law, you know, you're it's it's
• 21:46
Speaker 3: one piece of paper regardless. But that's I've heard about
• 21:48
Speaker 3: people doing that. More of a common thing these days
• 21:50
Speaker 3: is people just they don't want all the all the
• 21:53
Speaker 3: pageantry of the wedding, but they want the reception. They
• 21:57
Speaker 3: can do it that way. And the photography business into
• 22:01
Speaker 3: this now. I mean used to be you had a
• 22:02
Speaker 3: wedding photographer. Now there's there's video you got to have.
• 22:05
Speaker 3: If you do a party ahead of time, you know,
• 22:07
Speaker 3: you got to if there's like a like a bridal
• 22:11
Speaker 3: shower or or or bachelor party, whatever, they got to
• 22:14
Speaker 3: do videos. They have the rehearsal dinner the night before.
• 22:17
Speaker 3: I mean, there's so much into it.
• 22:18
Speaker 5: It's so encompassing, you know, like I said, from before,
• 22:22
Speaker 5: the during the after. You know, when you're dealing with
• 22:25
Speaker 5: the wedding industry and all the ancillaries. You know, you
• 22:28
Speaker 5: have your you have your engagement session with your photographer,
• 22:31
Speaker 5: you have your your shower, and then you come in,
• 22:35
Speaker 5: you have your rehearsal, you have your wedding, people playing
• 22:39
Speaker 5: big their honeymoon. After that, people come back and you're
• 22:42
Speaker 5: joining to two people, so they either want to buy
• 22:46
Speaker 5: a house or maybe both of them have supperate houses
• 22:48
Speaker 5: they want to sell one and move into the other.
• 22:50
Speaker 5: So it ties in real estate. So it's the ancillaries
• 22:54
Speaker 5: around the wedding industry. And you know, weddings aren't slowing down.
• 22:57
Speaker 5: We stay pretty book year round, as do most of
• 23:01
Speaker 5: our vendors, and it's, you know, it' special to be
• 23:05
Speaker 5: a part of somebody's big day. And that's what we
• 23:07
Speaker 5: try to bend over backwards to make sure. You know,
• 23:10
Speaker 5: with the staff that we hire, you know, we reiterate,
• 23:14
Speaker 5: and all these vendors are so wonderful to understand that.
• 23:17
Speaker 5: You know, it may be a job to you, but
• 23:19
Speaker 5: it's that person's maybe one of their biggest stays in
• 23:21
Speaker 5: their life. So we want to make it special. We
• 23:23
Speaker 5: want everybody involved with it to make it special. So
• 23:27
Speaker 5: that's you know, one reason a lot of us have
• 23:28
Speaker 5: once some rewards is we go out of our way
• 23:31
Speaker 5: to make it special.
• 23:31
Speaker 4: I want to talk to you, Craig.
• 23:32
Speaker 3: I want to talk a little bit about the Hail
• 23:34
Speaker 3: Street Center itself. I mean this is not just a
• 23:36
Speaker 3: one off that you're just you know, having a one
• 23:39
Speaker 3: day wedding event. I mean talk about overall about that.
• 23:43
  Speaker 3: It's a it's a fantastic place I've built. It's great,
• 23:45
  Speaker 3: it's great.
• 23:46
Speaker 4: Well it was it's kind of by accident. So we
• 23:49
  Speaker 4: bought the well.
• 23:52
Speaker 5: We bought the building in twenty seventeen for our real
• 23:54
Speaker 5: estate company, Property Elite, which we're now EA Property Elite,
• 23:58
Speaker 5: but we we brought prety just the building in twenty
• 24:01
Speaker 5: seventeen and we started doing renovations.
• 24:03
Speaker 4: It's the building was built in nineteen oh six.
• 24:06
Speaker 5: It was built for CMP Telephone and it's been a
• 24:09
Speaker 5: plethora of businesses throughout the years. Charleston Blueprint, the Gazette
• 24:14
Speaker 5: was their national Bank of Commerce, the DHHR for the
• 24:18
Speaker 5: last thirty years. Before us, it was the Girl Scouts.
• 24:21
Speaker 5: So there's a lot of renovations that needed done. And
• 24:23
Speaker 5: as we started renovating the building, one of my clients
• 24:27
Speaker 5: was in the wedding industry and she kept asking me
• 24:31
Speaker 5: to rent out our building for a wedding and I
• 24:33
Speaker 5: was like, no, no, no, no no, We've got other
• 24:35
Speaker 5: plans for the building. And she persisted and persisted, and
• 24:39
Speaker 5: so finally we gave in and we rented the building
• 24:41
Speaker 5: out and were like, hey, well this may be a
• 24:43
Speaker 5: good use for the building. So we opened the Hell
• 24:46
Speaker 5: Street Center in twenty nineteen, kind of just threw ourselves
• 24:49
Speaker 5: into the expo that was at the Civic Center at
• 24:52
Speaker 5: the time, and we had a fantastic first year won
• 24:55
Speaker 5: some awards after that, so we've kind of more now.
• 24:59
Speaker 5: We do weddings, graduations, We work with nonprofits. I heard
• 25:03
Speaker 5: you had the Humane Society in here. They did Texas
• 25:05
Speaker 5: Intels in our building a few years ago.
• 25:08
  Speaker 3: It's a great venue. I went to a luncheon there
• 25:11
Speaker 3: that was a just a you know, just a private organization,
• 25:15
Speaker 3: but it was a luncheon I was invited to and
• 25:16
Speaker 3: I went there and I was blown away by the place, man,
• 25:18
Speaker 3: because I had not been inside since you guys took
• 25:20
Speaker 3: it over and I walked in. I was like, man,
• 25:21
Speaker 3: this is really nice.
• 25:22
  Speaker 4: Thank you.
• 25:23
Speaker 3: Right in downtown Charleston too.
• 25:25
Speaker 5: Yeah, we do. We do a lot of business meetings,
• 25:28
Speaker 5: you know. We have some big, big law firms that
• 25:31
Speaker 5: will do their their annual meetings there. We do Christmas parties, graduations,
• 25:37
  Speaker 5: Like I said, a lot of nonprofits and it's a
• 25:38
Speaker 5: little unique that we can have. We have multi floors,
• 25:43
Speaker 5: so we've done events like the Texas and Tels and
• 25:48
Speaker 5: we did a we did a ball a few years
• 25:52
Speaker 5: ago for the Roll McDonald house.
• 25:54
  Speaker 4: Uh third four.
• 25:55
Speaker 5: We may have a DJ and that kind of vibe
• 25:57
Speaker 5: going on first for the band and then in the
• 25:59
Speaker 5: boss bedroom we may have a quartet. We had keat
• 26:02
Speaker 5: Adam which was a little string quartet or a duo,
• 26:05
Speaker 5: so you can get different vibes throughout the building and
• 26:07
Speaker 5: kind of everything under one roof, so there's always something
• 26:11
Speaker 5: to do. And then about a year year and a
• 26:12
Speaker 5: half ago we decided that we had the beautiful space
• 26:16
Speaker 5: in the basement. We're like, well why not open a bar.
• 26:18
Speaker 5: You know, that's kind of what's the thought process, and
• 26:21
Speaker 5: it's kind of morphed, and you know, we do a
• 26:23
Speaker 5: lot of events there Charleston Idol. We do karaoke, trivia,
• 26:28
Speaker 5: all kinds of stuff, murder mysteries and kind of it's
• 26:31
Speaker 5: a destination place and it's kind of been really busy.
• 26:36
Speaker 3: As well now and it's two ten Hail Street. But
• 26:37
Speaker 3: for those that may be listening in West Virginia, we're
• 26:40
Speaker 3: all sometimes we're not big on addresses, So explain to
• 26:44
Speaker 3: people that may be listening from outside the area where
• 26:47
Speaker 3: where this building is.
• 26:48
Speaker 5: Okay, So if you're in Charleston, you know most people
• 26:51
Speaker 5: that know something about Charleston now where Capitol Street is.
• 26:53
Speaker 5: So if you get off the interstate and you're coming
• 26:56
Speaker 5: down Lee Street and you hit Capitol Street, the very
• 26:58
Speaker 5: next block is Hell Street. It was the Huntington Banks
• 27:03
Speaker 5: building now it's nine hundred on Lee is right there
• 27:05
Speaker 5: at the front corner of Hell Street, and as you
• 27:07
Speaker 5: turn on the block, there's street parking. There is parking
• 27:12
Speaker 5: garage kind of attached to the building. The Hell Street Center
• 27:15
Speaker 5: and Hell House are kind of the two buildings right
• 27:17
Speaker 5: there beside each other, right after the parking garage. There's
• 27:21
Speaker 5: parking lots in the back of our building. But we're
• 27:24
Speaker 5: right there kind of in the crux of the downtown life.
• 27:28
Speaker 3: And there's been a whole lot of development Craig over
• 27:31
Speaker 3: the last couple of years in that particular area of Charles,
• 27:34
Speaker 3: a lot of new things popping up. It's kind of
• 27:37
Speaker 3: become one of the places to be now at Charleston,
• 27:38
  Speaker 3: that whole area.
• 27:40
Speaker 5: We kind of when we bought the building, kind of
• 27:43
Speaker 5: looked at that that there was really nothing much around
• 27:45
Speaker 5: that area. So since we've purchased the building, you know,
• 27:50
Speaker 5: Vacini opened up the Hell House in twenty nineteen I think,
• 27:54
Speaker 5: and then Kim Rossi bought her building that she was
• 27:57
Speaker 5: in there right next to us, and she's got a
• 28:00
Speaker 5: lot of stuff going on there. You know, the diner
• 28:01
Speaker 5: was attached to that across the street from us, in
• 28:04
Speaker 5: the Old Strand there's supposed to be a micro brewery
• 28:07
Speaker 5: coming next year. There's just a lot of stuff going
• 28:11
Speaker 5: on right in that little niche. And then you know,
• 28:14
Speaker 5: as part of the Holly Jolly Browley event this year,
• 28:18
Speaker 5: the Downtown Association the Igloo Pods to us and the
• 28:23
Speaker 5: Hell House to rent out, which was phenomenal. They booked
• 28:27

• 28:58
Speaker 4: Breast health of folks, voluntary donation.
• 29:00
Speaker 3: Voluntary. You don't have to, but you can't. If somebody's
• 29:03
Speaker 3: listening still wants to be a vendor. Is there still
• 29:05
Speaker 3: vendor space available? We're pretty full, Okay, okay, I mean,
• 29:10
Speaker 3: jan maybe you could put them on the list or something,
• 29:12
Speaker 3: because sometimes people come on this, well I didn't know
• 29:14
Speaker 3: about this. I'd like to get involved.

• 29:33
Speaker 4: All right, but we are going to.

Speaker 3: I mean what instrument and what what was your music?
• 30:41
  Speaker 3: Wo'd you play?
• 30:43
  Speaker 4: Back then?
• 30:43
Speaker 5: That would have been I would have been playing probably
• 30:45
Speaker 5: keyboards and saxophone, you know. Flash forward Most of the
• 30:50
Speaker 5: bands I've been in in the recent last twenty thirty
• 30:53
Speaker 5: years have been drums. But back then that would have been.
• 30:58
Speaker 5: That would have been probably a band with myself, Mark Davis,

Speaker 3: some things in the news I would like to get
• 37:31
Speaker 3: to this morning if at all possible. Going back to
• 37:34
Speaker 3: yesterday's show. I had Greg Thomas from Citizens Against Lawsuit
• 37:38
Speaker 3: Abuse on the show yesterday and we were talking about
• 37:41
Speaker 3: things that related he was anytime he's on related to
• 37:44
Speaker 3: attorneys and whatnot. A final text that came in late
• 37:47
Speaker 3: yesterday did not get it, but I wanted to get
• 37:49
Speaker 3: it in today. So there are of course need for lawyers.
• 37:52
Speaker 3: But these liberal judges working together with some of these
• 37:54
Speaker 3: lawyers just scratching the backs making money says a text.
• 38:00
Speaker 3: Texture says, take vaccine freedom to its illogical conclusion. What
• 38:06
Speaker 3: gives the state the right to make rules for the road?
• 38:09
Speaker 3: I want their freedom to ignore stop signals. I find
• 38:12
Speaker 3: they squelch my need for speed, says a texture. I
• 38:15
Speaker 3: think that's very tongue in cheek there, but I get
• 38:17
Speaker 3: where the texture is going with that. For those that
• 38:19
Speaker 3: say that they want vaccine freedom, they're saying, well, if
• 38:22
Speaker 3: you're going to give it for that, why not give
• 38:24
Speaker 3: it on the roads as well? Says a texture. Text says,
• 38:30
Speaker 3: I'm curious to see what Governor Morrisey does with the
• 38:32
Speaker 3: food die Bill. Does he sign it since it was
• 38:35
Speaker 3: approved by legislators, therefore by the voters. Does he veto
• 38:38
Speaker 3: it and reassure his favorite people lobbyists that he's still
• 38:42
Speaker 3: on their site. Or does he ignore it and let
• 38:45
Speaker 3: it go into law and be seen as indecisive in
• 38:48
Speaker 3: week that is that's an interesting conversation as to what
• 38:52
Speaker 3: Governor Morrisey is going to do with the with the
• 38:55
Speaker 3: food die Bill. Texas Dave Astronaut gave Jesus all the praise.
• 39:03
Speaker 3: Trump and Musk said they deserved all the praise. It's
• 39:06
Speaker 3: pathetic Texter, Texas, Dave, don't feel sorry for the postal workers.
• 39:10
Speaker 3: They were told what would happen if Trump was elected.
• 39:13
Speaker 3: Shock and awe has just begun. There's going to be
• 39:16
Speaker 3: thousands of job losses in West Virginia. Last one shut
• 39:19
Speaker 3: out the lights, says a text lead story this morning
• 39:24
Speaker 3: wv Metronews dot com. The state Senate is set to
• 39:27
Speaker 3: vote on a statewide ban on camping in public places now.
• 39:30
Speaker 3: The ban itself, and these have been passed in plenty
• 39:35
Speaker 3: of other places, is designed to address homeless encampments, but
• 39:40
Speaker 3: some senators have said that a ban could could be
• 39:46
Speaker 3: used to address mass protests as well. Judiciary Chair Mike
• 39:51
Speaker 3: Stewart said, quote, this would be applicable to some of
• 39:56
Speaker 3: those violent pro Hamas demonstrations in New York where you
• 40:00
Speaker 3: camping outside. With all due respect to the Senator's frequent
• 40:04
Speaker 3: guests of the show, don't know what that's happening in
• 40:06
Speaker 3: West Virginia, but okay. Senator Tom Willis out of Berkeley
• 40:10
Speaker 3: County agreed with that assessment. Senator Willis said, we could
• 40:13
Speaker 3: use it if it were to pass here to address
• 40:16
Speaker 3: some of the situations, and we can quote now preemptively
• 40:20
Speaker 3: prepare them here end quote. I guess in case we
• 40:24
Speaker 3: get a hostile hamas takeover here. And he went on
• 40:30
Speaker 3: to talk about the city of Seattle, where his words,
• 40:33
Speaker 3: they literally took over parts of the city and law
• 40:35
Speaker 3: enforcement was scared to go into those areas. In quote again,
• 40:39
Speaker 3: as Greg Thomas and I referred to on yesterday's show,
• 40:43
Speaker 3: try that in a small town, there is zero zero
• 40:47
Speaker 3: chance that that happens here. Senators, However, I do admit
• 40:55
Speaker 3: there are a lot of problems with the homeless encampments
• 40:58
Speaker 3: in the area. And then say the western A lot
• 41:00
Speaker 3: of different cities have seen it, cities in southern West Virginia,
• 41:03
Speaker 3: not necessarily the bigger cities. Charleston had an issue a
• 41:07
Speaker 3: couple of years ago. Seems like it's been taking care
• 41:10
Speaker 3: of here. Saint Albans within the last week or so,
• 41:13
Speaker 3: there was some action in court that was going to
• 41:15
Speaker 3: be taken about one that was in Saint Albans. So
• 41:18
Speaker 3: where it stands now. The Senate Judiciary Committee debated the
• 41:23
Speaker 3: bill for about two hours before advancing it to the
• 41:26
Speaker 3: full body, and the bill has already passed the House
• 41:29
Speaker 3: but has been amended so the two chambers will not
• 41:33
Speaker 3: have to agree on the I'm sorry, I will have
• 41:35
Speaker 3: to agree on the final version. Penalties for violations ranged
• 41:39
Speaker 3: from warnings to fines up to five hundred dollars and
• 41:42
Speaker 3: potential jail time up to thirty days, with considerations for
• 41:46
Speaker 3: offering alternative sentencing, sheltering, sheltering sorry. Senator Eric tar offered
• 41:54
Speaker 3: an amendment to offer transportation option to areas with capacity
• 41:58
Speaker 3: to take in the those who are homeless or who
• 42:01
Speaker 3: needed addiction services or a need for mental health issues,
• 42:05
Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera. Senator Scott Fuller out of Wayne
• 42:08
Speaker 3: County said, quote, allowing them to just sleep on the
• 42:11
Speaker 3: streets or on city blocks, not only is not a
• 42:13
Speaker 3: good look, but it scares people in quote and look,
• 42:17
Speaker 3: this is Dave talking now. It is a very, very
• 42:20
Speaker 3: complicated issue. And as many police officers will tell you,
• 42:28
Speaker 3: ninety nine point nine percent of the time where you
• 42:31
Speaker 3: see these encampments, you see crime, and a lot of
• 42:36
Speaker 3: times it's not just people stealing stuff. It's violent crime,
• 42:40
Speaker 3: it's rape, it's sexual assaults of all time types, et cetera,
• 42:44
Speaker 3: et cetera. You just can't, you just can't have this
• 42:49
Speaker 3: in civilized society, period. And very controversial opinion, although it's
• 42:58
Speaker 3: probably the opinion of ninety five percent of the people
• 43:00
Speaker 3: listening to me today. I don't feel everyone else should
• 43:05
Speaker 3: be punished just because a few choose not to follow
• 43:10
Speaker 3: the rules of society. And how is that thought process
• 43:15
Speaker 3: For the gentleman who called steam Release with Wilson Meadows
• 43:18
Speaker 3: a few weeks ago and complained about Metro News giving
• 43:20
Speaker 3: me three hours to espouse my liberal views, I am
• 43:24
Speaker 3: far far right when it comes to stuff like that. Sorry,
• 43:29
Speaker 3: I don't know that this bill will actually do anything
• 43:31
  Speaker 3: to address the problem, but it's a start. I don't
• 43:36
Speaker 3: agree with the assessment that we need to suddenly worry
• 43:38
Speaker 3: about widespread, big city type protests. It's not going to
• 43:42
Speaker 3: happen in West Virginia period. I think we have enough

• 47:55
Speaker 3: shared on social media around the area yesterday that was,
• 47:58
Speaker 3: to be honest, quite quite troubling to me. Who someone
• 48:02
Speaker 3: disagreed with Delegate Kathy has Krauss about something and shared
• 48:07
Speaker 3: a picture and this isn't new by the way, And
• 48:11
Speaker 3: it was a picture of the delegate a sleep in
• 48:14
Speaker 3: her car, alleging and they use those words, alleging that
• 48:18
Speaker 3: she was drunk. I talked to Delegate Krause, who is
• 48:21
Speaker 3: a good friend of mine, even though we don't always
• 48:23
Speaker 3: agree on everything. I talked to her about it yesterday
• 48:27
Speaker 3: and I kind of got the feeling that she was
• 48:28
Speaker 3: tired of explaining it. To be honest with you, the
• 48:30
Speaker 3: picture surfaces, she says, every so often, posted by people
• 48:34
Speaker 3: who have a bone to pick with her because they
• 48:36
Speaker 3: disagree with her on something. The picture was taken a
• 48:41
Speaker 3: few years back when she was running for state Senate.
• 48:44
Speaker 3: She was at a high school reunion at Coonskin on
• 48:47
Speaker 3: a one hundred degree day and simply laid down in
• 48:50
Speaker 3: her truck for a power nap. That's simple. I mean,
• 48:53
Speaker 3: we've all probably done that one time or another. But
• 48:56
Speaker 3: because someone disagrees with her politically, every so often this
• 49:01
Speaker 3: picture surfaces alleging that she was drunk. That, my friends,
• 49:09
Speaker 3: is a little thing called defamation and it falls under
• 49:14
Speaker 3: libel And quite frankly, I hope Delegate Rause sues and wins.
• 49:19
Speaker 3: And I would say the same thing if it were
• 49:22
Speaker 3: Delegate Pushkin, Deligit, Young Delagate Lewis people on the other
• 49:25
Speaker 3: side as well, simply laying down to take nap. People,
• 49:29
Speaker 3: you have to do better. You can't go to faming
• 49:33
Speaker 3: people just because you disagree with them, and that's where
• 49:38
Speaker 3: we are, sadly in our political climate in twenty twenty five.
• 49:44
Speaker 3: It's shameful, delicate, crass. I say, sue them and I
• 49:49
Speaker 3: hope that you win big. That's me, Uh Texas Day. Sorry,
• 49:55
Speaker 3: kind of tuned out on your homeless camping rant. Did
• 49:58
Speaker 3: you say Holler boys will stop the people who protest
• 50:00
Speaker 3: against the homeless camping bill? No, I said, I think
• 50:03
Speaker 3: the Holler boys would take care of if the fact
• 50:05
Speaker 3: that we had any of these widespread, massive hamas type
• 50:10
  Speaker 3: violent protest.
• 50:11
  Speaker 12: Not so.
• 50:12
Speaker 3: I'm all four protests. I'm all four protests, one hundred percent.
• 50:14
Speaker 3: Knock yourself out. But when it becomes violent, I'll be fair.
• 50:20
Speaker 3: January sixth, then something's got to happen there. Hollow Boys
• 50:24
Speaker 3: take care of dext today. Someone who has worked with
• 50:26
Speaker 3: the Men Shelter in Charleston for over three years share
• 50:29
Speaker 3: that about seventy five percent of their revolving residents are
• 50:31
Speaker 3: convicted sex offenders. Communities either don't want them or they're
• 50:34
Speaker 3: not competent enough to stay up to date on the
• 50:36
Speaker 3: sex offender registry. If they don't have a permanent address,
• 50:39
Speaker 3: they don't have to register and tell neighbors about their crimes.
• 50:43
Speaker 3: Let's take it live to the capital right now and
• 50:47
Speaker 3: talk to Meadows and Wilson, who are standing by. What's up, Fellows.
• 50:53
Speaker 17: We weren't even sure if you were on today? Why
• 50:56
Speaker 17: and we were very confused. Well, Nitro's playing in the
• 50:58
Speaker 17: semi finals. It's way more important than you.
• 51:01
Speaker 3: I would agree with that. I would agree with that.
• 51:06
  Speaker 3: What's going on?
• 51:06
  Speaker 4: Boys?
• 51:08
  Speaker 13: Uh?
• 51:08
Speaker 3: You know it's Friday.
• 51:10
Speaker 17: Both the House and Cinema have floor sessions starting at
• 51:12
Speaker 17: ten o'clock this morning. One of the things that's gonna
• 51:15
Speaker 17: come up over on the House side to send it
• 51:16
Speaker 17: Bill four sixty. That's the vaccine exemption bill. It's scheduled
• 51:20
Speaker 17: for amendments, but we're hearing some rumblings they might suspend
• 51:23
Speaker 17: rules and just go ahead and pass that today and
• 51:25
Speaker 17: then we'll see what happens to it as it goes
• 51:28
Speaker 17: back to the Senate, because that bill has significantly changed
• 51:31
Speaker 17: from what was passing the Senate.
• 51:32
Speaker 3: So that's happening today.
• 51:34
Speaker 17: Kirtchbull is gonna stop by the set because he's retired
• 51:37
Speaker 17: and has nothing else to do. He's gonna drop by.
• 51:40
Speaker 17: We'll talk to him. Also, we've got an interview with
• 51:44
Speaker 17: a couple of basketball coaches, Dave Tallman and Dave Tallman
• 51:48
Speaker 17: sat down with me again like other bad kids in
• 51:50
Speaker 17: the Hall episode, but a father and son team that
• 51:53
Speaker 17: have won state championships as father and son player and coach.
• 51:57
Speaker 17: They've won state championships as coaches, and it's basketball is
• 52:01
Speaker 17: family when it comes to Tallman's interesting interview coming up
• 52:03
Speaker 17: about ten thirty this morning, and Dave Allen Deme last week.
• 52:05
Speaker 3: Maybe we'll get that this week too. Just just what
• 52:09
Speaker 3: we need is another day behind the microphone in this company.
• 52:11
Speaker 3: That's exactly what we need, all right, guys, these are
• 52:15
Speaker 3: the Daves that I know. I am going to be
• 52:17
Speaker 3: over my Amanda and I will be over at the
• 52:18
Speaker 3: colise Ema Convention Center. We're doing something with the mascots
• 52:21
Speaker 3: out on the floor. They tell me between a couple
• 52:23
Speaker 3: of games today, so we're headed over.
• 52:24
  Speaker 17: Them signing autographs.
• 52:25
Speaker 11: Can I get your autograph?
• 52:27
Speaker 3: Last time I did that it was a subpoena. I'm
• 52:28
Speaker 3: not falling for that again. All right, Thanks.
