- 0:00But I really want us to really think about prayer.
- 0:20And I want you guys to be able to look at prayer from a biblical perspective.
- 0:24And many times prayer can be taught from these other points of view where it's about your
- 0:33conversation with Jesus or your communion with Christ or these kinds of things.
- 0:39And communion would be more an appropriate thing.
- 0:42But I want us to really understand how God has called us and has given us a sacrament
- 0:50of prayer.
- 0:53That we should be praying as Paul states in the scriptures, continually.
- 0:59The question is how do we pray?
- 1:01Can we pray?
- 1:04So before we do anything we need to define prayer.
- 1:09And so I know I'm about to pray again and ask God to guide our conversation through
- 1:15this.
- 1:16But there is a clear model for prayer.
- 1:19And so we will, doing some very purposeful expository preaching through this as we expound,
- 1:29as we exegete these truths, I want you to make sure that you're spending time getting
- 1:34what's being said here and not overlooking it because you guys, because we've been taught
- 1:40by some other means that prayer is this or that.
- 1:44I want you to see what Jesus says about it.
- 1:46So Father I want to thank you so much that you are the awesome and mighty God.
- 1:50I'd ask you Lord that you would guide our conversation.
- 1:54Lord that as we come before you and seek the manna, spiritual manna and the spiritual water,
- 2:00everlasting water, Lord as a deer pants for the water so much so long as after you, that
- 2:05you would please Lord provide for us all that we need for our spiritual health.
- 2:12That we are alive in Christ and that we have a responsibility to continue to walk in holiness
- 2:18and to love you supremely.
- 2:21That we would love others by forgiving them and that we would commit to honoring you in
- 2:26our prayer life and really understand what you have given us here in the Lord's Prayer
- 2:32or as they would, as has been taught that this is the Lord's Prayer.
- 2:38This is really a model for us to live by as we worship and honor you in meeting with you.
- 2:46Lord we thank you and praise you in Jesus name, amen.
- 2:50What is prayer?
- 2:53So the word prayer from the beginning, you know, you're like you got to do one of these
- 2:58Greek words don't you?
- 3:00Yes because it's literally the only word that Jesus uses or that really the New Testament
- 3:06even describes as prayer.
- 3:10What is prayer?
- 3:12And it's pros ukomai.
- 3:15Pros ukomai is the word for prayer.
- 3:18Pros ukomai has two words within it.
- 3:22First one is pros which means to be near or to come before.
- 3:29So when you're thinking about prayer, you are coming near or coming before God.
- 3:36That's what it's about.
- 3:38The word ukomai is the word pray, will or wish.
- 3:43You're like God doesn't do wishes.
- 3:46Well God does give us the desires of our heart if there are certain things we do.
- 3:50But the point is I think the most important word here in ukomai is the word will.
- 3:56Whose will are you seeking in prayer?
- 4:00Have you ever thought about prayer from this perspective?
- 4:03I think we're going to have a very clear distinct understanding of prayer when you look at prayer
- 4:11from this perspective.
- 4:14Pros ukomai to come near according to the will of God.
- 4:22Many have said including me that it's communication with God or conversation with God and all
- 4:27that's true.
- 4:28There is some type of communication with God.
- 4:32Now God speaks to us through his word and we speak to him in our hearts as the Holy
- 4:40Spirit prays for us because we pray as we really don't know how to pray well.
- 4:49So it's very important that we understand that there is this idea that prayer is this
- 4:54communication but it's so much more than that.
- 4:57Prayer is so much more than that.
- 4:59The doctrine of prayer and here's the definition.
- 5:02The doctrine of prayer is a means of grace offered according to the will of God expressed
- 5:10in accordance with his word.
- 5:14Wow.
- 5:16When you think of prayer many think I can come to God and just ask whatever I want.
- 5:22One it's a fast food restaurant just go in give me a Big Mac large fry and a Coke and
- 5:28just leave.
- 5:29That's the way they look at God.
- 5:32But it's more than it's not that at all.
- 5:33This is not a one stop shop to get your stuff to get the stuff you want.
- 5:39This is a means of grace offered according to the will of God expressed in accordance
- 5:46with his word.
- 5:47If you want your prayers to be answered then you need to do it according to his word.
- 5:52Prayer is the language of the soul.
- 5:56John Calvin said opening up of our hearts before God.
- 6:01That's prayer.
- 6:03Prayer is so much more than just having a conversation.
- 6:08Prayer reveals more about your heart than the wallet in your back pocket or in your
- 6:12purse.
- 6:13You're like whoa.
- 6:16When you think about prayer you know when you think about your treasures where your
- 6:21treasure is there your heart will be also.
- 6:23So prayer has a tendency to show even more about the reality of your of the condition
- 6:27of your heart.
- 6:31Many of you may be convicted after this.
- 6:33After this be honest with you.
- 6:35It's quite revealing.
- 6:37So when we so if I want to sit and pay I listen to you guys pray.
- 6:41I listen to every all of our people pray.
- 6:44And some people are just way off.
- 6:47They just don't get it.
- 6:49And it may be because it's not being taught from the biblical perspective.
- 6:53It's not a good understanding of prayer that we we've taken prayer and we've modeled prayer
- 6:58and we've replicated prayer in such a way that now people pray in this kind of way and
- 7:03they missed the whole point of prayer.
- 7:08It's kind of amazing.
- 7:09We will clarify this in John 17 because we will end this whole series with John 17 the
- 7:15real Lord's Prayer.
- 7:17And you'll see that Jesus uses this model even in that prayer.
- 7:24OK.
- 7:26During these next few weeks we'll examine what scripture has to say about prayer how
- 7:32why what and when we should pray.
- 7:36Prayer is about aligning ourselves with God's will not our own.
- 7:43Matthew 26 36 just to give you a clear understanding that this is absolutely true.
- 7:52Turn to Matthew chapter 26.
- 7:56Now as you guys are turning there and I'm turning there.
- 7:59Matthew 20 we're going to go along the little journey since this is more of a expository
- 8:07topic of specifically prayer.
- 8:11It's going to be a little bit of walking but I will clarify these scriptures very clearly
- 8:17so you understand them.
- 8:20So in chapter 26 Jesus is in the garden of Gethsemane.
- 8:27And he has brought his disciples with him and they are there to to as Jesus goes and
- 8:36prays to the father verse 36 says chapter 26 verse 36 of Matthew then Jesus went with
- 8:43them to a place called Gethsemane and he said to it said to his disciples sit here while
- 8:49I go over there and pray and taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee he began
- 8:58to be sorrowful and trembled.
- 9:01And he said to them my soul is very sorrowful even to death remain here and watch with me.
- 9:11So Jesus is Jesus knows his time has come to an end and that there is a payment that
- 9:20must be paid and he realizes this is the moment that he has been talking about.
- 9:29So he goes to pray and you're going to see why.
- 9:34Verse 39 and going a little further he fell on his face and prayed saying he fell on his
- 9:42face and my father if it be possible let this cup pass from me nevertheless not as I will
- 9:59but as you will.
- 10:00What do you notice that Jesus does immediately?
- 10:03He reorients his will.
- 10:07Prayer reorients your will.
- 10:10It places your heart in the place it's supposed to be.
- 10:15So when Jesus goes before the father it's to reset his mind to be in communion with
- 10:26Christ with the father sorry.
- 10:29Now very simple truth there isn't it.
- 10:35Turn to Luke chapter 11.
- 10:38So Jesus is brought to this moment with his disciples and they've seen him pray several
- 10:47times they've seen him go off and pray and he come back and they've seen him pray before
- 10:51people.
- 10:52Now I want you to notice this look what it says in Luke chapter 11 verse 1 we're going
- 11:00to do one through four.
- 11:02Now Jesus was praying in a certain place when he finished one of his disciples said to him
- 11:11do you see that?
- 11:12How many times have we watched Hollywood?
- 11:16Jesus goes off and he comes back and his disciples say hey teach us to pray.
- 11:22No it's more than that.
- 11:24He's literally they literally just got done watching him pray.
- 11:30They've heard him pray and they're like I want to pray like that.
- 11:37How do we do that?
- 11:43And so they ask him the question Lord teach us to pray as John taught his disciples.
- 11:55How do we pray like that?
- 11:57We have to assume that that might be exactly why they're thinking will you teach us to
- 12:02pray?
- 12:05When he said to them when you pray say Father hallowed be your name.
- 12:14That word hallowed is the word holy.
- 12:17Father holy is your name.
- 12:20This is what he's saying Abba holy is your name Yahweh.
- 12:28The name of Yahweh is holy.
- 12:31For Abba holy your kingdom come give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our sins
- 12:42for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us and lead us not into temptation.
- 12:51What do you see about this particular prayer that the disciples are wondering how do we
- 12:55pray like that?
- 12:57Teach us to pray.
- 13:00And what you notice here is this is a reorientation of their heart.
- 13:08I will clarify this in Matthew.
- 13:11Principle number one God knows the intent of the heart.
- 13:16God knows the intent of the heart.
- 13:18A person always does what's in the heart.
- 13:22You are what you are.
- 13:24If you are flesh you're flesh and if you're spirit you're spirit.
- 13:28How do we know that?
- 13:30Because Jesus even tells you.
- 13:32It's not what goes into a man's mouth and into his stomach that makes a man unclean
- 13:35it's what comes from his heart and out of his mouth that makes a man unclean.
- 13:38What makes you think if we have conversations with each other in a way that is dishonoring
- 13:43the Lord what makes you think that you're honestly going to be able to go to God in
- 13:46prayer and you're not going to say something foolish?
- 13:51Here you go you ready?
- 13:59Matthew chapter six turn there.
- 14:02Just to clarify this truth Matthew chapter six verse five through six.
- 14:14Notice what he says and when you pray you must not be like the hypocrites for they love
- 14:22to stand and pray in the synagogue and at the street corners that they may be seen by
- 14:28others.
- 14:30Truly I say to you they have received their reward.
- 14:35How many of you guys would like look at certain individuals on TV or particular preachers
- 14:41or whatever and you go yo they're prayer warriors man they know how to pray.
- 14:48I could probably pick out a couple but I have a tendency to throw those people onto the
- 14:53bus quite a bit.
- 14:56You already know see I don't even got to talk I just did but you guys know who they are.
- 15:01You would say that's a prayer they know how to pray.
- 15:04Man they're calling out demons.
- 15:07Yeah they have no idea what prayer is.
- 15:13No idea why because they pray according to the flesh.
- 15:18They pray for what they can get not praying that they will reorient themselves before
- 15:24living in holy God.
- 15:29But notice what Jesus says in verse six but when you pray go into your room shut the door
- 15:36and pray to your father who is in secret and your father who sees in secret will reward
- 15:42you.
- 15:43In other words don't be like the hypocrites who pray for everyone to see so that they
- 15:48can be told hey you look you pray amazing.
- 15:57Your words are amazing I wish I could pray like you.
- 16:03No Jesus says the opposite.
- 16:05Why don't you close the door and pray and when your father who sees in secret what you've
- 16:13done he will reward you in secret.
- 16:18There are many men and women who are in jail in other countries because of their faith.
- 16:24They can't go to a secret room but they can go into the secret room of their heart.
- 16:29Have you ever thought about that?
- 16:36That the secret room is the secret room of your heart.
- 16:41What reward do we get?
- 16:44The conformity of Jesus.
- 16:47What more of a reward do you want?
- 16:49You think that the reward that you get because you prayed a certain prayer is going to be
- 16:54money in your pocket or your bills paid.
- 17:00Or is it conforming me into the image of a son?
- 17:05What more of a reward do you desire?
- 17:14God's will for you is to pray knowing God knows your need.
- 17:21That's the principle.
- 17:22Many professing believers pray like the idolaters begging for an answer as if God is a lifeless
- 17:29idol.
- 17:30It's one of the things that drives me nuts.
- 17:41They think that they will be heard for their many words.
- 17:49They think that they will be heard for their many words.
- 17:53They think that they will be heard for their many words.
- 17:58When you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do.
- 18:07For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
- 18:12Do not be like them for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
- 18:17I want you to notice something.
- 18:18Go to 1 Kings chapter 18.
- 18:25Many of you probably know this little scripture.
- 18:29Chapter 18, verse 18, verse 22.
- 18:43It's about Elijah.
- 18:49Interesting, because this is exactly what Jesus is talking about.
- 18:56He says, then Elijah said to the people, I, even I only am left a prophet of the Lord.
- 19:07But Baal's prophets are 450 men.
- 19:11Let two bulls be given to us and let them choose one bull for themselves and cut it
- 19:17into pieces and lay it on the wood and put no fire to it.
- 19:21And I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood and put no fire to it.
- 19:26And you call on the name of your God and I will call upon the name of the Lord, Yahweh.
- 19:32And Elohim who answers by fire, he is Elohim.
- 19:40And all the people answered, it is well spoken.
- 19:43Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, choose for yourselves one bull and prepare
- 19:49it first, for you are many, and call upon the name of your God and put no fire to it.
- 19:56And they took the bull that was given to them and they prepared it and called upon the name
- 20:02of Baal from morning until noon saying, oh Baal, answer us.
- 20:10All day, oh Baal.
- 20:15Oh Lord, take it away.
- 20:22Oh Lord, answer our prayer.
- 20:25As if the God of all creation is a lifeless idol like Baal.
- 20:35When the scripture clearly says that God already knows what your need is before you ask him,
- 20:40why don't you come before me and reorient your heart?
- 20:45Because I want something.
- 20:48See, God is a God like an idol to them, to get what they want.
- 20:58Now you see why Jesus gives this model.
- 21:01It's going to shock you, hopefully.
- 21:10Christ gives us principle, Christ gives us a clear model for prayer.
- 21:17Here's a statement.
- 21:18Why do you think we can do it better or come up with a more effective way to pray?
- 21:24Oh, because we have an issue of idolatry.
- 21:31We worship idols.
- 21:33We worship ourselves because we think we could do it better.
- 21:36And the Holy Spirit clearly states that we can't pray because we pray as we ought not
- 21:42to pray.
- 21:47Matthew 9, Matthew 6, 9 through 13.
- 21:51Here it is.
- 21:52You guys ready for the model?
- 21:54Love how Jesus teaches them to pray.
- 21:58This is what it says.
- 22:02Pray then like this.
- 22:05Our Father in heaven, hallowed, holy be your name.
- 22:11Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
- 22:16Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our
- 22:21debtors and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
- 22:31Evil translation from evil, not evil one.
- 22:40I don't know about you, but I like to be delivered from all evil, not just the evil one.
- 22:49Just saying.
- 22:53What's the model here?
- 22:54Why does Jesus teach them to pray like this?
- 22:57Are you guys ready?
- 22:59Just exalt or praise.
- 23:02Here it is.
- 23:03Start with God.
- 23:04Exalt or praise.
- 23:06Exalt Him or praise Him.
- 23:08Our Father in heaven, holy be your name.
- 23:12If there's anything the elders know and people that pray with me know, I start with God,
- 23:18I end with God.
- 23:21I purpose to think through following the model because it reorients my heart, my mind, my
- 23:29will, the things I desire, I want to be what He desires.
- 23:33That's the whole point of prayer.
- 23:40Start with Him.
- 23:41Exalt or praise.
- 23:42Our Father in heaven, holy or how would be your name.
- 23:48Second, surrender.
- 23:50Surrender.
- 23:51Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
- 23:54Not my will, your will.
- 23:56Your kingdom come, your will be done.
- 23:59Do you see the difference here?
- 24:04When we praise Him and start with Him, then we're going to be able to really understand
- 24:08the point of surrendering to Him because He's the King.
- 24:11He's the masterful one.
- 24:13He's amazing.
- 24:14He's majestic.
- 24:15He's beautiful.
- 24:16It's easy when you realize that I am nothing to surrender my will and desires to Him and
- 24:21Him alone.
- 24:22As a result, you then can go before Him and ask Him for your needs.
- 24:30Why?
- 24:32Because you've given praise to the King.
- 24:34You've surrendered your will, which means your will has now become His will because
- 24:39you've surrendered your will to His will and you say, give us this day our daily bread.
- 24:45Why does He use this term?
- 24:46In other words, He's saying to you this, God, you are the source of my existence.
- 24:55Give us this day our daily bread.
- 24:58You notice He doesn't say, hey, I really want them brand new sneakers.
- 25:03I want that nice car.
- 25:09You're the source of all life for me.
- 25:12You care my daily, my physical needs, spiritual needs.
- 25:16Here we go.
- 25:17You ready?
- 25:18So, fourth.
- 25:19So, first is exalt and praise.
- 25:21Second, surrender.
- 25:22Third, ask according to His will.
- 25:26Fourth, repent.
- 25:29Spiritual need.
- 25:30What's your most important spiritual need?
- 25:33To get right with God.
- 25:35What does John say?
- 25:361 John 1, 9, that if we confess that we have sinned, He is faithful and just to forgive
- 25:42us of all our sin and purify us from all unrighteousness.
- 25:45Repent and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.
- 25:52Forgive us.
- 25:54Help us to forgive.
- 25:56Jesus says, if you do not forgive your brother, I will not forgive you.
- 26:04Repent.
- 26:07Number four.
- 26:08Number five, because we've exalted God and glorified Him, because we've surrendered our
- 26:12will to His will, because we have asked according to His will and we've repented and gotten
- 26:18ourselves in right mind for Him, we then can petition Him, a petition, and lead us not
- 26:27into temptation but deliver us from evil.
- 26:30Notice what the petition is.
- 26:31The petition is not, hey, I would really like.
- 26:36No.
- 26:37The petition is make me more like Jesus.
- 26:41Keep me from sin and keep evil from me that I may walk in the holiness of your presence.
- 26:49What's the one thing that keeps us from being able to talk?
- 26:52I know men, you guys know this, fathers, if things aren't right with our wives, what happens
- 26:59to your prayer?
- 27:02Sometimes it feels like it hits the ceiling.
- 27:04Right?
- 27:05I'm looking at all the men.
- 27:08You're like, why are you pointing at me?
- 27:16Everybody gets a little bit, including me.
- 27:19Right?
- 27:20Petition.
- 27:21Lead us not into temptation.
- 27:23Make me right.
- 27:25Make me like Christ.
- 27:27Keep me from failure and keep me from evil.
- 27:30Lastly, not all, not, this particular phrase is not found in the earliest manuscripts nor
- 27:38in the modern manuscripts, though it is placed in there as a footnote because the earliest
- 27:45manuscripts don't have this in there.
- 27:47I will share this with you, though.
- 27:49It does fit amazingly.
- 27:52There's really nothing in here at all that would make us think that Jesus would not have
- 27:57said this.
- 27:58Okay?
- 28:00Just making it clear.
- 28:01King James would have it in some of the other translations, but this is what it says.
- 28:05So if we start with God, we surrender our will, we ask according to his will, we repent
- 28:11and get ourselves right, we then petition him to make us more like Jesus, we then go
- 28:15back to him and give him all the praise and glory.
- 28:20For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
- 28:24Amen.
- 28:25Now, when you think about a model prayer and the disciples go, teach us to pray, and he
- 28:32says, this is how you should pray, then how should you pray?
- 28:37I mean, should we pray like Joel's team?
- 28:45Nope.
- 28:48There's a way to pray.
- 28:50He's given us the model.
- 28:51Now, what's interesting about this model is, it doesn't, as long as you are really following
- 28:58the model, then everything gets reoriented and your prayers get heard and answered.
- 29:06How do we know?
- 29:08Because to be honest with you, God answers the prayer of Mount Eaton Church.
- 29:12It's amazing.
- 29:17You guys are praying, most of you guys are probably praying like this and don't even
- 29:20realize it.
- 29:21That's a spirit of God thing.
- 29:25I mean, how many times have we seen people healed and we haven't come over and like smacked
- 29:29them in the forehead and threw a jacket?
- 29:36I mean, think about it.
- 29:39Why?
- 29:40Because our hearts are right with him.
- 29:42The whole point of prayer is to reorient.
- 29:45Prayer is not a means to get something nor a way to seem more spiritual nor a duty.
- 29:54It's an act of worship and love.
- 29:58It's not a time to brag or give advice.
- 30:02Drives me nuts when I listen to people pray and they go, Lord, help this man, Lord Jesus,
- 30:09because I'm about to kick him.
- 30:14My kids are driving me crazy, Lord.
- 30:16I don't know what to do.
- 30:19You know, kids sitting next to you and just put your hand on them and just cast them out,
- 30:24Lord.
- 30:25Just Lord.
- 30:27Exactly.
- 30:29And so what ends up happening is that we end up giving advice to people during our prayer
- 30:33time.
- 30:35How irreverent is that?
- 30:37It's not time for you to say to somebody, get your act together.
- 30:45It's not a time to point out others' faults or issues nor a time to remind God to fix
- 30:49others so that my life can be better.
- 30:52It is a time to reorient your heart, a time to position yourself properly before a holy
- 31:01God, a time to present yourself in humility, a time to come to daddy in faith and assurance
- 31:07that Father God hears you.
- 31:12That's what prayer is all about.
- 31:14A time to truly rely on Him because we do not pray as we should.
- 31:20Romans chapter 8, verse 26 through 27, you can write that down.
- 31:24Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
- 31:28What's implied here is we are weak in our flesh.
- 31:33We don't pray as we should.
- 31:34You can't pray as you should because you live in a fallen, broken body that has not been
- 31:41redeemed yet.
- 31:47For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for
- 31:53us with groanings too deep for words.
- 31:58And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes
- 32:03for the saints according to the will of God.
- 32:07Why do you think Jesus gives us a model?
- 32:09He gives us a model because left to our own demise, we'll come up with all kinds of ways
- 32:14to pray and go, that's awesome prayer time.
- 32:23Why are you so adamant about this?
- 32:25Because remember, your prayer tells me more about your heart than your wallet.
- 32:40It's a time to love and worship Him.
- 32:43It's a time of refreshing and strengthening.
- 32:46It's a personal, private time with Him to enjoy Him with no distractions.
- 32:54It's our time together as God's people with Him, a time alone with Him.
- 33:00When we gather together, let's praise Him.
- 33:04Let's follow the model together.
- 33:08Lift Him high.
- 33:10Make the world know Him by our proclamation of the goodness of our God.
- 33:15And that in the midst of all that, that we are sinful and Lord that You would forgive
- 33:20us of our sin so that we can willingly and openly come before You and have the right
- 33:28attitude of mind to know what to ask for.
- 33:37When you come together, pray with intent.
- 33:44It is a time for comfort and peace, a time to know Him more deeply as we pray through
- 33:51His Word.
- 33:53So meet with Him continually in prayer and you will absolutely be changed.
- 34:02Make sure that your prayer time is purposeful.
- 34:10That you go before God to reorient your heart with Him.
- 34:15That doesn't mean that you can't go and petition for your spouse or petition for your kids.
- 34:21But make sure that you've done everything you have to do to make sure your heart and
- 34:24your mind, your will, your desires are all reoriented in His will according to His Word.
- 34:31And then when you pray for them, you pray for them according to their Word.
- 34:35Lord that You would save them if they do not know You.
- 34:38Lord that You would conform them into the image of Your Son as You have promised because
- 34:42they belong to You.
- 34:44And Lord that You would draw out of them and that they would commit according to Your Word
- 34:51of Romans 2 that they would not be conformed to the pattern of this world but be transformed
- 34:56by the renewing of their mind, Lord.
- 34:57Renew their mind.
- 35:02Don't conform that person into my image but Lord conform them into Yours.
- 35:07You see the difference when you're reoriented?
- 35:10When you start with Him and you go through the process and you end with Him, how much
- 35:16more, yes I said much more, it's bad English, I don't care.
- 35:21How much much?
- 35:23How much more much?
- 35:25Your prayer life is with the Holy, amazing God.
- 35:29Have you ever thought about prayer from that perspective?
- 35:37So let me give these to you one more time.
- 35:40Exalt or praise.
- 35:44Surrender your will to His will.
- 35:48Ask according to His will.
- 35:51Repent of your sin.
- 35:54Ask Him to help you forgive others.
- 35:58In Him for your conformity into Christ and help others to be more like Jesus and exalt
- 36:13and praise.
- 36:16Give all the glory to Him when it's all done.
- 36:18Very simple.
- 36:19Isn't that a nice model?
- 36:20That's an amazing model.
- 36:22To be honest with you, a couple of times I'm praying with the guys Wednesday night and
- 36:30they're like, man, it's a model, it's not mine.
- 36:36I just follow it.
- 36:41Your prayer life will be so refreshing.
- 36:45If you follow Christ's model, you don't need to change it.
- 36:51That being said, we're going to pick up next week in the doctrine of prayer as we start
- 37:02looking through why we gave you the how and the why.
- 37:09What should you pray?
- 37:10I gave you the model and when.
- 37:12We're going to deal with the issue of when next week.
- 37:16Then we'll start going through some examples of prayer, Old Testament, New Testament.
- 37:21I will tell you we're going to go through Hannah's prayer.
- 37:24An amazing prayer.
- 37:28Prayer of a woman who loves her God.
- 37:32Then we'll go through the prayer of Jesus.
- 37:35We got a lot to go through over the next several weeks.
- 37:37Father, I want to thank you so much for your faithfulness and goodness.
- 37:40To you be honor and glory.
- 37:42Thank you, Lord, for your word.
- 37:45Thank you again for all the spiritual manna, the reality of the truth that prayer is a
- 37:52reorientation of our heart and our mind, our will, our desires.
- 37:58That our needs are fully found and met in you.
- 38:02Help us to forgive as you have forgiven us.
- 38:05And to love others as you have loved us.
- 38:09To honor and lift you high in all things.
- 38:13To proclaim your wonderful name, the name of Yeshua, the God who saves.
- 38:20For we thank you and praise you.
- 38:23In Jesus' name, amen.
