- 0:10Speaker 2: The World's a Vigeon podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:20Speaker 3: There are guys that like they'll do like ten twelve
- 0:23Speaker 3: games a weekend. I mean, and it's like, I mean,
- 0:25Speaker 3: my body can't.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Hold up to that anymore.
- 0:26Speaker 3: But I trot us fell last week.
- 0:28Speaker 5: I did no.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I thought my knee Like girls were making and you
- 0:33Speaker 3: could tell that there was some tension. I'm staying on
- 0:34Speaker 3: my dad. At the end of the period.
- 0:36Speaker 2: My Dad's like, I'm gonna go get a.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Drinker, go about whatever. He walks away, and I'm standing
- 0:40Speaker 3: there waiting for the example. And you go around around
- 0:42Speaker 3: and all of a sudden you just see like a
- 0:43Speaker 3: tussle on.
- 0:43Speaker 6: The stands and it's like, oh, you know, like people falling,
- 0:46Speaker 6: and it's like, what's going on?
- 0:47Speaker 2: And then things But your dad just fought Andy Patterson. Dude,
- 0:52Speaker 2: I'm like, what.
- 0:53Speaker 5: I'm not talking about forever. I'm talking about right now.
- 0:55Speaker 5: I'd be much rather be Miami. Yeah, we fixed some
- 0:58Speaker 5: things over here and we can be a contender, right.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I think that team is soft, so.
- 1:03Speaker 5: You're missing my point. I'm talking about the caliber of
- 1:05Speaker 5: team forgetting the close out. The Patriots are light years
- 1:08Speaker 5: away from that, and they'll.
- 1:09Speaker 7: Keep drafting Chop Robinson's and stuff like that.
- 1:12Speaker 2: That's he's not listening.
- 1:14Speaker 5: You know what he's doing. He's doing because I wouldn't.
- 1:16Speaker 5: He's being and yeah, okay, but he's being intentionally of toos.
- 1:20Speaker 2: This isn't that. This isn't that type of draft. Now,
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'm not going to be wearing a tous It's more
- 1:24Speaker 2: of a workman like draft. I might be wearing a
- 1:26Speaker 2: blue Coala.
- 1:27Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:29Speaker 8: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:33Speaker 8: dot com.
- 1:35Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:39Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, and we've got a full crew over
- 1:42Speaker 2: the combine. Later in the show, Deuce and or Evan
- 1:46Speaker 2: will be calling in. Do we know, I don't know.
- 1:48Speaker 5: I think they're both going to be on it.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Oh both, okay, So we'll have that around the one
- 1:51Speaker 2: o'clock hour. What did you say? You told me something
- 1:55Speaker 2: like that.
- 1:56Speaker 5: That was what your producer.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Told So around that time they'll be calling in with
- 2:02Speaker 2: their thoughts so far at the combine, it's Alex, it's Paul,
- 2:05Speaker 2: it's me, it's Matt and Na Booth again, Mike and
- 2:09Speaker 2: Evan are in Indie with our team of content producers. Yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 2: so what's going on getting it done there? Mike Rabel
- 2:17Speaker 2: had his opening press conference with the national media, and
- 2:21Speaker 2: I will say the one word that stoock out for me,
- 2:24Speaker 2: stood out for me as I watched and listened, was confidence.
- 2:29Speaker 2: He's confident in himself. I think he's confident in his program,
- 2:34Speaker 2: his staff, and I think he's instilling confidence in me.
- 2:39Speaker 2: That's that's the one word that stood out for me.
- 2:43Speaker 5: What about you guys, I would say he's definitely much
- 2:47Speaker 5: more comfortable at the podium than obviously Gerard was, which
- 2:52Speaker 5: makes sense. He's done it for, you know, a number
- 2:55Speaker 5: of years, and Gerard was his first time. So I
- 2:58Speaker 5: think he looked more comfortable. You know, it sounded more comfortable, confident.
- 3:03Speaker 2: You're comfortable.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Yeah, it's going to come down, Yeah I don't. I'm
- 3:06Speaker 5: not disagreeing with your your view of the confidence is
- 3:09Speaker 5: going to come down to the same thing that comes
- 3:11Speaker 5: down with everybody else. Can this new regime find players
- 3:15Speaker 5: and can they identify the guys that will fit and
- 3:19Speaker 5: can they get them to come and sign right right?
- 3:21Speaker 5: You know, so like we can talk about a lot
- 3:23Speaker 5: and well they hit on the draft and I did.
- 3:25Speaker 5: I wrote a bunch of stuff down that he said.
- 3:27Speaker 5: I'm sure we'll talk about it in the next you know,
- 3:29Speaker 5: hour and fifteen before the boys come on. But we
- 3:32Speaker 5: can talk about all the individual things that he said.
- 3:35Speaker 5: But that's the bottom line. Can they can they improve
- 3:37Speaker 5: the talent level? Yeah?
- 3:38Speaker 9: People are saying like it was like a world of
- 3:40Speaker 9: difference from last year. I don't think it was that groundbreaking.
- 3:44Speaker 9: It just's been here before, you know, he's been there before.
- 3:48Speaker 9: He has maybe a better handle on how to manage
- 3:51Speaker 9: expectations of the media, how to manage like I don't know,
- 3:55Speaker 9: you say, drowd saw last year, you say one wrong
- 3:57Speaker 9: thing and it just gets snowballed to an avalanche, right,
- 4:01Speaker 9: So I think Rabel has a little more experience with
- 4:03Speaker 9: that setting expectations, saying enough without saying too much. So
- 4:08Speaker 9: it is what it is. I don't I don't think
- 4:10Speaker 9: it was.
- 4:11Speaker 2: He does love himself some Karena Regian, he does, but
- 4:16Speaker 2: everybody loves of course.
- 4:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I would agree the way Alex said it, because
- 4:20Speaker 5: there was a lot you know, I was listening to
- 4:22Speaker 5: my shows, you know, after and you know Zoe was
- 4:26Speaker 5: in particular, you know, gushing, you know, and I just
- 4:30Speaker 5: I thought he was gushing just like the way that
- 4:34Speaker 5: he came around Ross. It's so much more exciting. I mean,
- 4:38Speaker 5: there's I just.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Listen, there was boiler plate stuff in in February. I
- 4:44Speaker 2: was excited last year too, So let's not right.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that he sounded more head like can
- 4:50Speaker 5: we just use the word like presidential? Yea, in place
- 4:53Speaker 5: of in place of head coach. Sure, he sounded more
- 4:56Speaker 5: presidential in the role than Girodmeo did, and he's should
- 5:00Speaker 5: because he's done it for a number of years and.
- 5:03Speaker 9: Trying to be anyone's best friend. He wasn't trying to, ye.
- 5:07Speaker 5: So I don't think that what he said was all
- 5:09Speaker 5: that different than what we've heard from a number of
- 5:12Speaker 5: other coaches, you know, both here and around the league
- 5:14Speaker 5: over the years. So a lot of you know, boilerplate
- 5:19Speaker 5: kind of starts, you know, free agency. Yeah, you know
- 5:21Speaker 5: we want to you know, we hopefully can be aggressive
- 5:24Speaker 5: and you know that you're going to have to overpay
- 5:26Speaker 5: sometimes and you know, it depends on how you're willing,
- 5:30Speaker 5: how far you will to go.
- 5:31Speaker 2: There's one car in the lot, you're going to pay
- 5:33Speaker 2: more than if there's a whole bunch.
- 5:35Speaker 5: You know, the fits and whatnot is all that. That's
- 5:38Speaker 5: why I get back to the bottom line for me
- 5:40Speaker 5: is can this regime do a better job of finding
- 5:43Speaker 5: talent than the last one did? Yeah?
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean in terms of his demeanor, it's more
- 5:49Speaker 2: like Parcels and it's his Belichick or Pete Carroll or Girodmeo.
- 5:54Speaker 2: You know, he's he's more engaging telling you nothing than
- 5:59Speaker 2: Belichick was.
- 5:59Speaker 5: But I thought Mayo was engaging. But he just kept
- 6:03Speaker 5: saying things one way and then the next day saying
- 6:07Speaker 5: the opposite. And that's where he got in trouble.
- 6:09Speaker 9: It wasn't so much it's the contradicting him, right.
- 6:11Speaker 5: It was everybody would would say, like, well, you guys,
- 6:13Speaker 5: you can never be happy. Bill never said anything and
- 6:16Speaker 5: you killed him for it, and this guy says too much.
- 6:18Speaker 5: It wasn't that Gerard always said too much. It was
- 6:21Speaker 5: that he said one thing on Sunday after the game
- 6:24Speaker 5: and an entirely different thing on Monday when he had
- 6:26Speaker 5: to walk it back. That's where he got in trouble was,
- 6:31Speaker 5: as Alex said, the contradiction.
- 6:32Speaker 9: The contradictions, and then like the corporate jargon to where
- 6:34Speaker 9: you say a lot and it really doesn't mean anything. Yeah,
- 6:37Speaker 9: kind of talking in circles.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we like football jargon where you say a lot
- 6:41Speaker 2: and don't say anything right, right.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Like your parcels thing is is dead on. Mike is
- 6:47Speaker 5: a lot like Bill and that he's much more engaging
- 6:50Speaker 5: to listen to. But he's not telling you a whole lot, and.
- 6:53Speaker 2: You don't want that, right, you know, as a fan
- 6:55Speaker 2: of my team, Like I said, I don't want my
- 6:57Speaker 2: coach gift doing.
- 6:58Speaker 5: It wasn't what Mayo was saying. It was that he
- 7:01Speaker 5: was saying something different all the time, right and wrong,
- 7:04Speaker 5: and you didn't know what the you know, the direction was.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Now.
- 7:08Speaker 5: The one thing that I would say, football wise, that
- 7:10Speaker 5: I was impressed with with Mike is certainly seems like
- 7:14Speaker 5: he's got an idea of how he wants to put
- 7:17Speaker 5: the team together. He talked about, you know the cliche
- 7:20Speaker 5: that I've been railing against for a couple of weeks, Well,
- 7:23Speaker 5: I just have to watch the super Bowl and you
- 7:24Speaker 5: see you know, the dominated the no kidding, I mean,
- 7:31Speaker 5: but he I think that's what he wants. He wants
- 7:34Speaker 5: he wants to be a physical team. You can tell
- 7:37Speaker 5: like that there's a direction and identity that he wants.
- 7:39Speaker 2: To strike to see. I'm my philosophy is not so
- 7:45Speaker 2: much we have to have two lines that dominate. We
- 7:48Speaker 2: have to have two lines that don't get dominated. You
- 7:51Speaker 2: don't need to have the dominant line in the NFL.
- 7:55Speaker 2: If you have all the other pieces around it, you
- 7:58Speaker 2: can be good, but just don't get dominated because once
- 8:02Speaker 2: you start getting dominated, then you can't execute your game plan.
- 8:06Speaker 5: So that's my thing, you know, right, But like as
- 8:09Speaker 5: a you know, like last year, Elliott Wolf was talking
- 8:11Speaker 5: about we need to weaponize the offense, and Mike is
- 8:15Speaker 5: talking about we need to sort of be more physical
- 8:18Speaker 5: and stronger, you know, up front. Yeah, so it is
- 8:22Speaker 5: a little bit of a different kind of philosophy.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Sure what else? What else? We got Drake may making
- 8:29Speaker 2: the rounds? He's he's out there. Do you like that?
- 8:32Speaker 2: Do you like your guy going into a second year
- 8:35Speaker 2: going on these podcasts. I worry about it. I have
- 8:38Speaker 2: to be honest, because these podcasts you get too relaxed
- 8:42Speaker 2: you know, and sometimes get Yeah. No, I'm not saying
- 8:46Speaker 2: that he's hot. Listen, I'm not saying he's done anything
- 8:48Speaker 2: wrong yet. I'm just saying the more you do it,
- 8:51Speaker 2: the more apt to say, because, like I said, it's
- 8:55Speaker 2: a very relaxed atmosphere, and you tend to say things
- 8:58Speaker 2: you don't normally say, especially at a press conference when
- 9:01Speaker 2: you know you're addressing the media.
- 9:03Speaker 9: So I think he's pretty media trained. I listened to
- 9:05Speaker 9: him on the green Light podcast, and I mean, you're
- 9:08Speaker 9: with a former Patriot, so that helps out too. I
- 9:10Speaker 9: think he's not trying to put him in a bad
- 9:13Speaker 9: situation as if he, like say, in contrast, if you
- 9:16Speaker 9: were to go on like a part in My Take
- 9:18Speaker 9: where it's a lot more casual, a lot more funny,
- 9:22Speaker 9: a lot more they're not necessarily trying to get headlines.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Patriot crowd, then Chris Long would be though true.
- 9:30Speaker 9: Maybe yeah, But I don't know. I don't think Chris
- 9:32Speaker 9: Long was trying to put him in a bad position, and.
- 9:34Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't think that's so that's why.
- 9:37Speaker 9: I think it's like a safe place to do that
- 9:40Speaker 9: let out a little personality. But I think I think
- 9:42Speaker 9: Drake is really media trained. I listened to it. I
- 9:45Speaker 9: didn't think anything was really groundbreaking. I honestly didn't learn
- 9:48Speaker 9: to im So I think, if you're going to keep
- 9:53Speaker 9: that statue on these podcasts, great, yeah, do what you want.
- 9:56Speaker 2: So Gonzo was on one too, right, he was on
- 10:00Speaker 2: a podcast recently.
- 10:02Speaker 5: I don't I don't know about this stuff.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Well, I mean they come across my timeline. It's not
- 10:05Speaker 2: like I'm subscribing, and.
- 10:07Speaker 9: That one i'd be maybe a little more as Yeah
- 10:11Speaker 9: what I'd say, that one I'd be almost a little
- 10:13Speaker 9: more compelled to listen to because Gonzo so shy.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, So guys are making the rounds trying to
- 10:20Speaker 2: think if there's anything else that stuck out to me
- 10:22Speaker 2: this week. Your pants quarter rights are making a comeback
- 10:29Speaker 2: the RAMS.
- 10:29Speaker 5: That's something interesting for him.
- 10:31Speaker 2: A senior offensive assistant, and you guys.
- 10:36Speaker 9: Talked about it. You wanted him to be a tight
- 10:38Speaker 9: pants coach.
- 10:39Speaker 5: Maybe, yeah, he's going to be to be a tight
- 10:42Speaker 5: pants guy.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 5: And I thought the comment was kind of all over
- 10:47Speaker 5: the place, just a bunch of different observations. Sean McDermott
- 10:50Speaker 5: talking about Mike Pellegrino. I don't know if you caught that.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I did not.
- 10:55Speaker 5: He was asked, you know what made Pellegrino attractive to
- 10:58Speaker 5: add to the staff, and he talked about being just
- 11:01Speaker 5: impressed with a the development of some young corners, and
- 11:05Speaker 5: be just the schemes that they've they've run with Belichick.
- 11:09Speaker 5: You said with Belichick, to which I thought was interesting.
- 11:12Speaker 5: You know that the schemes that they've run with with
- 11:14Speaker 5: Bill Belichick.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Brian Belichick, we got their guy.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not gonna be able to come up with
- 11:21Speaker 5: the name now, but the I think the safety's coach
- 11:25Speaker 5: for Buffalo is now here with the Patriots, and Pellegrino left.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Us to go there, and Brian Belichick went down to
- 11:32Speaker 2: North Carolina. Yeah, I'm a little disappointed. I always hope
- 11:36Speaker 2: a team would pick him up in the NFL. So,
- 11:39Speaker 2: but that's fine.
- 11:41Speaker 9: Maybe they just assumed he would go to North Carolina. Anyways.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know, Like yeah, I don't know, like
- 11:48Speaker 2: how aggressive he was in reaching out saying I want
- 11:50Speaker 2: to go places, but he's in North Carolina. You mentioned
- 11:56Speaker 2: Van Pelt over to the Rams, anything else that movement, No.
- 12:02Speaker 5: No, just this like this The rabel stuff to me
- 12:05Speaker 5: was I mean, that's the story of the day.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I'm just trying to delay the talk of Will Campbell's
- 12:10Speaker 2: arm length. So that's eventually we got to get to that.
- 12:13Speaker 5: It's amazing to me how much that's that's permeated the
- 12:18Speaker 5: early part of the combine so far. But just in general,
- 12:21Speaker 5: like I remember last year, you know, new head coach,
- 12:25Speaker 5: you have the opportunity to start that off season program early,
- 12:27Speaker 5: and you know, everybody yelled at me and said, nothing
- 12:30Speaker 5: to see here. Why are you worried about the fact
- 12:32Speaker 5: that the Patriots aren't going to do that with Mayo. Well,
- 12:35Speaker 5: it sounds like Mike Rabel is going to do it.
- 12:37Speaker 5: You know, he mentioned April seventh today. You know when
- 12:41Speaker 5: when the guys come in on April seventh, that's the
- 12:44Speaker 5: start of the voluntary program. It gives you a chance
- 12:46Speaker 5: to start early as a new coach, and evidently Vrabel's
- 12:52Speaker 5: going to take advantage of that extra time. Yeah, which
- 12:54Speaker 5: I think is good.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, absolutely. One thing he did say that
- 12:59Speaker 2: I don't think we would ever ever heard Bill Belichick say,
- 13:02Speaker 2: is just time that coaches spend here. It's like, I
- 13:06Speaker 2: don't want to see guys leaving here at midnight coming
- 13:09Speaker 2: back at four. That's not good for anybody. It's not
- 13:12Speaker 2: good for them, it's not good for their families, it's
- 13:14Speaker 2: not good for the players, you know, because he said
- 13:17Speaker 2: the coaches have to go in set the tone in
- 13:19Speaker 2: the room, be energetic, and if they're burned out, then
- 13:24Speaker 2: it's just not going to help us. So how he
- 13:27Speaker 2: manages that will be interesting. But I think more and
- 13:30Speaker 2: more teams are saying that. You know, he's not the
- 13:32Speaker 2: first coach to say that now publicly, but in the
- 13:35Speaker 2: old days, you would never say that. It was more,
- 13:39Speaker 2: you know, sleep in your office if you have to,
- 13:41Speaker 2: you know. So that's a change I think throughout sports
- 13:46Speaker 2: a little bit more work life balance.
- 13:48Speaker 9: Yeah, how do you feel about that?
- 13:50Speaker 2: I hate it? Yeah, I mean, listen, everyone has their
- 13:54Speaker 2: own way of doing it. But you know, I don't know.
- 13:59Speaker 2: I just like, if you come into a job and
- 14:02Speaker 2: one of your first questions to the hiring managers, what's
- 14:04Speaker 2: the work life balance? Like red flag? For me? Red Flag?
- 14:09Speaker 9: I would agree with that.
- 14:10Speaker 2: You're already thinking about, you know, other stuff besides what
- 14:12Speaker 2: you're going to do here.
- 14:13Speaker 9: Yeah, Like if your first questions are about that CEO
- 14:16Speaker 9: like Perks, it's like what are you here for?
- 14:18Speaker 2: Right exactly? So I'm just old school like that, Paul.
- 14:25Speaker 5: You don't agree, no, you know, you know I agree
- 14:29Speaker 5: with you, But I'm just thinking about the vast majority
- 14:32Speaker 5: of the rest of this building.
- 14:33Speaker 2: R HR departments like you shouldn't be.
- 14:36Speaker 9: Saying that they got enough to worry about.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I'm sorry, but that's how I feel. I'm coming to
- 14:42Speaker 2: the end, Paul, and what are they going to do?
- 14:44Speaker 2: Fire me?
- 14:48Speaker 5: I'm not taking me down with you. I'm only not doing.
- 14:52Speaker 2: I'm only kidding, just kidding, having fun. Tuition, there's a
- 14:56Speaker 2: lot of podcast.
- 14:59Speaker 9: Take what's There's a lot of jobs you can go
- 15:01Speaker 9: take that you'll have a good work life balance. But
- 15:04Speaker 9: if you're trying to be you.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Can find that out on the second interview.
- 15:08Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, granted that would be I mean, working till
- 15:11Speaker 9: four am and then sleeping for an hour and then no.
- 15:14Speaker 2: It's not good. And you know, like I honestly, you know,
- 15:18Speaker 2: when we first started, Paul, and we were doing the
- 15:21Speaker 2: newspaper in night game, you come home and we would
- 15:24Speaker 2: have an eight hour day when we got home after
- 15:28Speaker 2: having for a twelve hour day, you know, and it
- 15:30Speaker 2: was brutal. And I do think it took time off
- 15:33Speaker 2: my life. I really do.
- 15:34Speaker 9: It was.
- 15:36Speaker 5: We had some rides home that were just frightening.
- 15:40Speaker 2: It lowers your immune system, it really does. So getting
- 15:44Speaker 2: good sleep, good nutrition, which I don't do, is important.
- 15:49Speaker 5: And I don't have any issue, you know, like the
- 15:51Speaker 5: bigger picture thing here of you know, wondering about what
- 15:54Speaker 5: you know, the work life balance it Like I don't
- 15:57Speaker 5: mind if that's on your mind, Like if that's something
- 15:59Speaker 5: that's you know, and it's when it dominates you and
- 16:02Speaker 5: like you know, you sometimes you go and you do
- 16:05Speaker 5: stuff and they're like, oh, well, I'm not going to
- 16:07Speaker 5: do that. Well, why he goes, Well, you know, that's
- 16:10Speaker 5: that happens during my lunch, Like okay, you know, like
- 16:14Speaker 5: everybody takes a lunch, but like you get your stuff
- 16:17Speaker 5: done and then you take the lunch. Like you don't
- 16:20Speaker 5: necessarily let that dictate whether or not you're going to
- 16:23Speaker 5: do your work. But I think a lot of people do.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Now their first first question is when when can.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I take vacation?
- 16:32Speaker 4: I know.
- 16:34Speaker 5: That would be a red flag to me too if
- 16:36Speaker 5: it was the first thing out of the shoot. In
- 16:37Speaker 5: an interview you sat down with Fred, The first thing
- 16:41Speaker 5: I asked him is how did you get that stain
- 16:42Speaker 5: on your shirt? In your interview, I didn't he did
- 16:47Speaker 5: have a stain on his shirt, and I didn't say
- 16:48Speaker 5: it did I really.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Was.
- 16:51Speaker 5: There was a day ending and.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Day exactly when didn't I have a stain on my shirt?
- 16:55Speaker 2: I remember the Super Bowl? You know Trenny from NBC
- 16:58Speaker 2: Sports Boss, I do. First time I met her was
- 17:00Speaker 2: at a Super Bowl. She looks at me, you need
- 17:02Speaker 2: a tide pen because I had like mustard or something.
- 17:06Speaker 9: You don't carry him around, I should.
- 17:08Speaker 5: We used to have one up there.
- 17:09Speaker 9: Maybe we can get you a sponsorship deal.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Yeah, well, Tides an NFL sponsor.
- 17:14Speaker 9: Right right, so wet Fred's beak.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, give me a lifetime supply of tide pens.
- 17:20Speaker 2: So wherever I go, I've got one, there you go.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I've gotten better, though, I think with the dribbling all
- 17:27Speaker 2: over myself.
- 17:30Speaker 10: It's been a lot less positive metall.
- 17:32Speaker 2: That's true. That's true.
- 17:33Speaker 5: So I will say, you know, we talked a lot
- 17:36Speaker 5: about the stuff that Mike said in the press conference.
- 17:38Speaker 5: There was one quote that I saw on the Twitter
- 17:41Speaker 5: machine that came out evidently of the side session with
- 17:45Speaker 5: the locals that I think was the money quote and
- 17:48Speaker 5: I'm paraphrasing here a little bit, but it's you know,
- 17:51Speaker 5: the roster today is going to look a lot different
- 17:54Speaker 5: than the roster at the end of August. So I mean,
- 17:58Speaker 5: I know that's not necessarily something that should come as
- 18:00Speaker 5: a terrible surprise to anybody. You know, they went four
- 18:03Speaker 5: and thirteen in consecutive years, but it does stand and
- 18:08Speaker 5: start contrast to last year when they were coming off
- 18:11Speaker 5: of four and thirteen season and did everything they could
- 18:14Speaker 5: to re up as many of those guys as they could. Yeah,
- 18:17Speaker 5: so I would take that is to be some of
- 18:20Speaker 5: the stuff that we've talked about the last few weeks.
- 18:22Speaker 5: There were guys that are on the team that wouldn't
- 18:24Speaker 5: necessarily be expected to be gone. That there's gonna be
- 18:28Speaker 5: guys that are gonna be gone. I don't know who
- 18:29Speaker 5: they are. I'm not gonna, you know, try to like
- 18:32Speaker 5: stab every single one of them, you know, with a
- 18:35Speaker 5: dart and see if I can guess all of the
- 18:37Speaker 5: right names. But there are gonna be people that are
- 18:39Speaker 5: on the team now that won't necessarily be here.
- 18:42Speaker 2: So if I'm a current player that worries me like
- 18:45Speaker 2: uh ooh, you know, I better have a good spring.
- 18:49Speaker 2: But if you're a guy who does end up on
- 18:52Speaker 2: the roster at the end of August, the message to
- 18:55Speaker 2: you is you made it. You fit my criteria, You're
- 18:58Speaker 2: the kind of player I want, So that'll be a
- 19:00Speaker 2: good way to go into the season with that roster.
- 19:03Speaker 2: But I think right now, if you're a current player,
- 19:06Speaker 2: you need to worry about you know, am I gonna
- 19:08Speaker 2: make it on this team? You know, nothing's a done
- 19:12Speaker 2: deal here. So I think that's good.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Oh, I absolutely think it's good. That was one of
- 19:18Speaker 5: the things that bugged me last year was that every
- 19:20Speaker 5: one of those guys was resigned. Yeah, you know, if
- 19:23Speaker 5: they were all as good as that, then they wouldn't
- 19:26Speaker 5: have been four and thirteen in the first place.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yep.
- 19:28Speaker 9: Well, it's like we were saying with the coaching staff
- 19:30Speaker 9: search like no one should be safe, and the same
- 19:33Speaker 9: goes to the players, like what have they done to
- 19:36Speaker 9: prove that in the last two three seasons that they
- 19:39Speaker 9: deserve their keep here?
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yep? Okay, all right, Well eight five five PATS five
- 19:44Speaker 2: hundred is the ACE ticket hot line? The hotline the
- 19:51Speaker 2: Wait a minute, I've got this all mixed up because
- 19:54Speaker 2: I was told TPX is no longer March first.
- 19:57Speaker 10: March first, that starts.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Oh, that's you're supposed to Okay, I still got it
- 20:03Speaker 2: wrong because it's not a ticket.
- 20:05Speaker 5: No, it's not. It's it's the phone line.
- 20:07Speaker 2: It's the tp X headline until March first. Then we're
- 20:10Speaker 2: getting a new sponsor. Yeah. And then the podcast or
- 20:14Speaker 2: the email for the podcast is podcasts at Patriots dot com.
- 20:18Speaker 2: So that's the way you interact with the show.
- 20:21Speaker 9: Podcast with an S.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah, with an S. All right, anything else before we
- 20:26Speaker 2: turn it into over to the fans.
- 20:28Speaker 5: I would turn it over to the funds because we
- 20:30Speaker 5: have a lot of emails. Oh, you should probably read some.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I wish Evan was here because a lot of them
- 20:38Speaker 2: are criticizing him. So but let's let's start.
- 20:45Speaker 9: Fun when he's not here to defend himself.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yeah, let's start with this one.
- 20:49Speaker 5: He doesn't it well exactly.
- 20:50Speaker 9: That's why it's more fun.
- 20:51Speaker 2: When it's just Chris and Foxborough right down the street.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I wanted to say, I absolutely love the show. Hoping
- 20:58Speaker 2: the Patriots picked Ty Warren at pick four or trading
- 21:01Speaker 2: back slightly, he would be a great changer. I don't
- 21:06Speaker 2: think he meant Ty Warren right, who's he. Who's he
- 21:09Speaker 2: talking about?
- 21:10Speaker 5: The tight end from Penn State.
- 21:12Speaker 2: His name is ty Warren. It's Tyler Tyler. I'm sorry, Yeah, okay.
- 21:16Speaker 4: All right.
- 21:17Speaker 9: Tyler is such a short name to even need a
- 21:19Speaker 9: nickname for he would.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Be a good funny though. I've never done that. Yeah,
- 21:26Speaker 5: ty Warren, You've never done that.
- 21:27Speaker 2: No, that's the first time I've seen anyone, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 2: refer to Tyler Warren as ty Warren. And I started
- 21:32Speaker 2: going back to our ty Warren, and I was thinking
- 21:35Speaker 2: that Chris and Foxbor was saying, pick a guy like
- 21:38Speaker 2: ty Warn you know what I mean. So, but no,
- 21:41Speaker 2: he's actually talking about the Tyler Warren from Penn State.
- 21:47Speaker 2: So before we get into his suggestion, which is the
- 21:50Speaker 2: next part of his email, you know, Tyler Warren. At four,
- 21:54Speaker 2: a lot of people said, oh, he's not worth a
- 21:56Speaker 2: four other than Hunter and maybe Abdul Carter, there is
- 22:01Speaker 2: no player in this draft worth a fourth round draft pick.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Would you agree?
- 22:05Speaker 5: Really, that's according to the experts. You have to pat somebody,
- 22:10Speaker 5: so someone's gonna get taken for.
- 22:11Speaker 2: It, no matter who anybody picks, if it's the Patriots
- 22:14Speaker 2: or somebody else. At four, people are gonna say he's
- 22:18Speaker 2: not worth a fourth, but you got to pick somebody at.
- 22:20Speaker 5: Fource gets to my rant from last week, and I
- 22:23Speaker 5: get it, and I'm taking it at face value. These
- 22:26Speaker 5: guys know a lot more about these prospects than I
- 22:28Speaker 5: ever will. However, that said, there are gonna be people
- 22:34Speaker 5: taken fourth, fifth, twelfth, eighteenth, twenty seven. They're gonna be
- 22:39Speaker 5: really really good players taken. You need to figure out
- 22:42Speaker 5: which ones they are, right. That's what makes it hard,
- 22:46Speaker 5: YEP is trying to identify in a pool of twenty
- 22:49Speaker 5: to forty that everybody says is the same twenty to
- 22:52Speaker 5: fifty virtually the same guy. I want to make sure
- 22:56Speaker 5: that I get the guy who's better than the other ones, right,
- 23:00Speaker 5: who ultimately ends up being better. That's the that's the trick.
- 23:04Speaker 2: There's been no draft where guys haven't been drafted and
- 23:07Speaker 2: then became good contributors to teams. You know, that's right,
- 23:11Speaker 2: That's never happened.
- 23:12Speaker 5: There's never been a draft that was completely beat of
- 23:16Speaker 5: any ability at all. Right, So there's going to be
- 23:19Speaker 5: Pro Bowl players in the draft.
- 23:20Speaker 2: That's said. That's said, like I asked you to read.
- 23:22Speaker 5: The emails, I'm asking him to find them find.
- 23:25Speaker 2: The draft pick that's said, I guarantee somebody will be
- 23:27Speaker 2: picked at four.
- 23:28Speaker 5: So if if for argument's sake, you end up picking
- 23:31Speaker 5: Will Campbell at four and he ends up being a
- 23:35Speaker 5: tremendous left tackle eight time all pro, do you think
- 23:39Speaker 5: anyone's going to say it wasn't worth the fourth part.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Of the draft.
- 23:43Speaker 5: I mean, like you could have gotten him at you
- 23:44Speaker 5: could have gotten him at eight. Yep, no one's going
- 23:47Speaker 5: to say that. You just have to make sure you
- 23:49Speaker 5: hit right. Whoever you take, he's got to be I mean,
- 23:52Speaker 5: really good players.
- 23:53Speaker 2: I know you disagree with me, but I remember when
- 23:55Speaker 2: Devin mccordy was chosen at the end of the first round.
- 23:58Speaker 2: I thought that was the reach. I didn't think. But
- 24:01Speaker 2: he's sure as hell is worth that pick. I mean,
- 24:03Speaker 2: when you have a guy with that type of career.
- 24:05Speaker 5: For your team, regardless of that, that's a great example,
- 24:08Speaker 5: regardless of an argumentister, who was where he was supposed
- 24:11Speaker 5: to get picked. He ended up being a good pick. Right,
- 24:14Speaker 5: So if he was supposed to go at thirty eight
- 24:18Speaker 5: instead of thirty two, would that matter to you? No,
- 24:21Speaker 5: who cares?
- 24:22Speaker 2: And if you picked him at eighteen instead of thirty eight.
- 24:26Speaker 2: It's still a good pick right now. His suggestion, can
- 24:30Speaker 2: you please stop letting Evan Lazar speak about anything other
- 24:34Speaker 2: than football? He acts like an expert in his wrong
- 24:36Speaker 2: ninety nine percent of the time. I hope he's listening.
- 24:39Speaker 2: The last straw was when he answered Fred about the
- 24:41Speaker 2: basketball arena in Indy known as the Barn. He went
- 24:44Speaker 2: on and on about how it was Conseco field House,
- 24:46Speaker 2: the home of the Pacers, and didn't let anyone else answer.
- 24:50Speaker 2: He of course, was dead wrong, like he always is
- 24:52Speaker 2: about basketball. As anyone who knows anything about basketball or
- 24:56Speaker 2: Brad Stevens knows that the Barn is home to Butler.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Butler Field House. I've never I mean yeah, I've never.
- 25:05Speaker 5: I've been there.
- 25:06Speaker 2: The Hinkelfield House is known as the Barn in Indiana's
- 25:09Speaker 2: basketball cathedral. Nobody refers to Conseko as the Barn, despite
- 25:13Speaker 2: what Evan was saying.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I've been to Hinkelfield House. I've not
- 25:17Speaker 5: heard it referred to as the Barn. But this guy
- 25:20Speaker 5: obviously would know more about it than I would, and
- 25:22Speaker 5: unlike Evan, I wouldn't snap back.
- 25:24Speaker 2: And it's just that I'm right, So it's home to Butler.
- 25:28Speaker 2: This happens all the time when the topic strays from
- 25:30Speaker 2: football and goes to social media platforms, basketball, especially nesson
- 25:34Speaker 2: three sixty, and really any topic other than football. I
- 25:38Speaker 2: love what he adds to the draft talk, although he
- 25:40Speaker 2: is no bar Ooh that's gonna hurt. That's the biggest
- 25:45Speaker 2: thing that's going to leave a mark.
- 25:47Speaker 5: Good job.
- 25:48Speaker 2: But maybe someone should tell him to sit out the
- 25:50Speaker 2: non football talk moving forward to avoid continuing to embarrass
- 25:55Speaker 2: himself and frustrate the audience. As an emailer said last summer,
- 25:59Speaker 2: he's the Elaine Bennis of the show as a feminine,
- 26:02Speaker 2: slightly annoying side character. Wow.
- 26:05Speaker 9: Wow, a feminine annoying sidekiar Wow. That might be an
- 26:09Speaker 9: email of the week that might get actually printed out
- 26:13Speaker 9: hard copy and just magnet and blown up on his
- 26:16Speaker 9: desk when he returns. Maybe we'll have a group.
- 26:19Speaker 2: But yeah, can I ask you?
- 26:21Speaker 5: We have time here, we can take a Can we
- 26:24Speaker 5: take like a thirty second.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Aside? Yeah?
- 26:28Speaker 5: I think that's a controversial Seinfeld.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Take Elaine Bennis annoying?
- 26:32Speaker 5: Yeah? Do you not like?
- 26:33Speaker 2: Well, they're all annoying in their own way, but they're
- 26:36Speaker 2: all great in their own way, and I don't find
- 26:39Speaker 2: her any more annoying than George.
- 26:41Speaker 5: I would. I think she's far less annoying than George,
- 26:44Speaker 5: and far less annoying than Kramer.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, Kramer's not annoying. He's delightful.
- 26:48Speaker 9: Oh god, you need Kramer for like the relief.
- 26:52Speaker 2: I mean, he's annoying if you live next door to him.
- 26:55Speaker 2: But you know, as a character on the show.
- 26:58Speaker 5: I mean I felt like was was the best character,
- 27:02Speaker 5: not the not the worst, the best character.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Wow, okay, yeah, she's pretty, Not really, she's Oh come on,
- 27:10Speaker 2: she's cute.
- 27:11Speaker 9: Yeah, especially that era, she's cute.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Yeah, good word.
- 27:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I have a problem with that. I mean I
- 27:18Speaker 5: probably shouldn't say it on I can't think of her
- 27:21Speaker 5: that way because she kind of looked like my sister.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Oh hey, now, so when my sister at that time
- 27:29Speaker 5: she kind of had like long wavy hair, Elaine did
- 27:33Speaker 5: in the early episodes. So like, you're like, she's hot.
- 27:37Speaker 5: I'm like, well, why can't you see that? It's my sister.
- 27:41Speaker 5: So maybe that's why I have a different But I
- 27:44Speaker 5: thought Elaine was a tremendous character on that show.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Oh they all were. I mean, they were all in
- 27:51Speaker 2: their in their own way, but it was one of
- 27:53Speaker 2: the great examples of ensemble casting ensemble.
- 27:57Speaker 5: Yes, okay, de wind, Okay, I give you forty five seconds.
- 28:01Speaker 5: I lied.
- 28:01Speaker 2: All right, let's go to the what are we calling
- 28:05Speaker 2: the hot line? The hot line? No, it's still TPX
- 28:08Speaker 2: until March first.
- 28:09Speaker 5: I would just go with the hot line myself.
- 28:11Speaker 9: But if we're phasing them.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Out, I mean, they paid until March first.
- 28:15Speaker 9: It's TPX hotline and we're going to it.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Christians in La, what's up, Christian?
- 28:21Speaker 11: Hey, Good morning you guys.
- 28:21Speaker 2: How are you good?
- 28:23Speaker 11: Has there been a situation where a team has been
- 28:27Speaker 11: a better prospect in next year's draft, and so they're
- 28:29Speaker 11: willing to trade or squak their first round pick this year,
- 28:34Speaker 11: not the second or third or things like that, but
- 28:35Speaker 11: their first position year with another team first or maybe
- 28:38Speaker 11: something else package with that to look at prospects the
- 28:41Speaker 11: next year that we think will be a better fit
- 28:43Speaker 11: for the top top spot. I'll take it up there,
- 28:46Speaker 11: thank you, guys.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Okay, anyone want to take a stab at that one?
- 28:53Speaker 5: I don't. I mean yeah, I mean the short answer
- 28:57Speaker 5: is yes, they're always looking at the draft classes and
- 29:01Speaker 5: sort of trying to evaluate them ahead of time, but
- 29:02Speaker 5: you wouldn't forfeit a draft pick, so you could pick
- 29:06Speaker 5: the following year when you have no idea if you're
- 29:08Speaker 5: going to be in position to pick whatever that guy
- 29:10Speaker 5: is that you have your eye on. Yeah, yeah, right,
- 29:13Speaker 5: And generally it's not an absolute thing, but in general terms,
- 29:18Speaker 5: when you trade a draft pick in a current year,
- 29:20Speaker 5: you get around better the following year.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:24Speaker 5: So Bill used to often trade second round picks for
- 29:29Speaker 5: first round picks in the future.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Yep.
- 29:33Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean, I think the short answer to
- 29:36Speaker 5: Christian's question is, yes, you're always looking at the draft classes.
- 29:39Speaker 5: I would say probably not in the way that he
- 29:41Speaker 5: described it. I don't think. I don't think you would
- 29:44Speaker 5: trade the fourth overall pick because you have your eye
- 29:46Speaker 5: on someone in the next year's.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Draft, right. And usually Bill could do that because he
- 29:51Speaker 2: had a solid roster, right, he wasn't desperate, and I
- 29:55Speaker 2: don't you know not that. Yeah, I guess we could
- 29:57Speaker 2: say we are desperate this year, we're desperate to guys now,
- 30:00Speaker 2: but he.
- 30:01Speaker 5: I want to say, like at the end of like
- 30:03Speaker 5: the two thousands, you know they would be we're going
- 30:08Speaker 5: to trade out of the bottom of the first round
- 30:11Speaker 5: or you know, maybe trade an early second round pick
- 30:15Speaker 5: that we acquired and try to move up in future years.
- 30:19Speaker 5: And that's how they There was a lot of years
- 30:20Speaker 5: where they had multiple first round picks when they were
- 30:23Speaker 5: really good. Yeah, you know, like four they had will
- 30:26Speaker 5: faulkn Watson, you know, all the way to like twenty
- 30:30Speaker 5: twelve they got Chandler Jones and Dante high Tower. You know,
- 30:34Speaker 5: like that's part of how they were able to do that,
- 30:37Speaker 5: is making those kinds of trades for future picks. Not always,
- 30:41Speaker 5: but sometimes.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Let's see this is Nick writes in sent an email
- 30:47Speaker 2: earlier this year about being isolated from the Patriots due
- 30:50Speaker 2: to army training and just wanted to follow up, like
- 30:53Speaker 2: if you service. I left before the final regular season
- 30:56Speaker 2: game and emerge from the desert a day before the
- 30:58Speaker 2: Super Bowl. Made it home just in time to watch
- 31:01Speaker 2: the Chiefs lose, which was great to find out one
- 31:04Speaker 2: Gerard Mao was fired, Rabel hired, and number one pick
- 31:08Speaker 2: dropped to four. It was a lot to take in
- 31:11Speaker 2: not a football email, but I was listening to last
- 31:13Speaker 2: week's show where Paul suggested his son leaning towards the
- 31:16Speaker 2: Army after he earns his commission from the citadel. I
- 31:19Speaker 2: will go further to suggest what branch he should explore.
- 31:22Speaker 2: He should consider Air Defense, field artillery, or signal corps,
- 31:27Speaker 2: as they are some of the most oh uh oh,
- 31:30Speaker 2: as they are some of the most rewarding and fun
- 31:32Speaker 2: jobs he can find himself in. Alternately, alternately, alternately, Yes,
- 31:38Speaker 2: after Paul's son spends some time in the Army, he
- 31:40Speaker 2: can consider joining my branch, the JAG Corps, where he
- 31:44Speaker 2: can be an attorney for the Army. There is also
- 31:46Speaker 2: a program available to people like Paul's son where the
- 31:49Speaker 2: Army will pay for his law school if he chooses
- 31:51Speaker 2: to become a JAG.
- 31:52Speaker 5: We've talked a little bit about you like Tom Cruise
- 31:54Speaker 5: jag court. I don't think that's something that's probably in
- 31:58Speaker 5: his future because his dyslexia really hurts him, and you know,
- 32:03Speaker 5: things that require a tremendous amount of reading, which law
- 32:06Speaker 5: school obviously would. But she talked about Army ranger school.
- 32:15Speaker 5: Some of those things that he mentioned are definitely in play.
- 32:18Speaker 5: I appreciate the advice. Good stuff, and thank you, thank
- 32:22Speaker 5: you for your service, and thank you for the advice.
- 32:24Speaker 2: YEP.
- 32:25Speaker 9: The idea of yeah, great job, very very diplomatic of
- 32:29Speaker 9: you the idea of like him missing this entire season,
- 32:33Speaker 9: like you probably couldn't have picked a better season to
- 32:35Speaker 9: just miss.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Right, that's true. I'd rather be in the desert than
- 32:39Speaker 2: have to go through last season again, Right about that?
- 32:43Speaker 5: That's a really inappropriate thing to say. But yes, you
- 32:46Speaker 5: know it was a good season to.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Miss, Scott writes in San Diego. Fred keeps saying that
- 32:51Speaker 2: the NFL is running into a talent gap. Not enough
- 32:54Speaker 2: American teenage boys playing football, so the NFL will struggle
- 32:58Speaker 2: to maintain the quality of the game. Is a true
- 33:01Speaker 2: some statistics. Two thousand and nine was the highest year
- 33:05Speaker 2: for high school football participation one point one million boys played.
- 33:10Speaker 2: By two thousand and four, the number drop nine point
- 33:13Speaker 2: two percent. Keep in mind that most experts predict a
- 33:16Speaker 2: downward trend in overall high school enrollment over the next
- 33:19Speaker 2: ten years. The number of boys available to play football
- 33:22Speaker 2: will decline, and the number of FBS football programs is rising.
- 33:27Speaker 2: In ninety eight, there were one hundred and twelve. Now
- 33:29Speaker 2: there's one hundred and thirty four. Here's the total picture.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Less high school boys are playing football. This will probably
- 33:36Speaker 2: go down more in the next decade because there'll be
- 33:38Speaker 2: fewer high school students overall, and there are more high
- 33:40Speaker 2: school level college programs who need players, talent will be
- 33:44Speaker 2: stretched thin across FBS teams. Fred is right. The United
- 33:48Speaker 2: States is moving gradually toward a football talent gap that
- 33:51Speaker 2: could impact the quality of play in the NFL.
- 33:55Speaker 5: So I agree with that. And when you and I
- 33:56Speaker 5: have been lockst up on this for a long time, Fred,
- 34:00Speaker 5: some might say we've been ahead of the curve. Yeah,
- 34:04Speaker 5: some of the college numbers are deceptive. They have added
- 34:07Speaker 5: some FBS teams, but most of those teams have gone
- 34:11Speaker 5: up from the FCS level. So one double A to
- 34:14Speaker 5: one A, right, the old dominions, the James Madison's, there's
- 34:18Speaker 5: been a lot of those. Coastal Carolina has been a
- 34:21Speaker 5: lot of those kinds of teams that have chosen to
- 34:24Speaker 5: go up. You masked, did it vocally?
- 34:26Speaker 2: Sorry? And there's only like one Division two teams with
- 34:29Speaker 2: Dakota right, that's the only team.
- 34:30Speaker 5: The one double A. No, the one double A has
- 34:33Speaker 5: really shrunk because at the same time that a lot
- 34:37Speaker 5: of those teams, basically one double A became a really
- 34:41Speaker 5: losing proposition, and even the ones that excelled at it
- 34:46Speaker 5: had a hard time making any money. So you will
- 34:49Speaker 5: face with a choice. You can either invest more resources
- 34:53Speaker 5: into your football program and go up. Some teams that
- 34:57Speaker 5: like the ones I mentioned, have done that. Others teams
- 35:01Speaker 5: like my alma mater and the team that I root for,
- 35:04Speaker 5: chose to go the other way and eliminated football Northeastern
- 35:07Speaker 5: and BU. Right, then there's a lot of ONEAA teams
- 35:11Speaker 5: that have done that.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Yep.
- 35:13Speaker 5: So I think the overall number I don't have this
- 35:16Speaker 5: in front of me, but I'm gonna guess a football
- 35:18Speaker 5: the overall number of Division one teams has shrunk while
- 35:23Speaker 5: the one A teams has increased. I'll bet you overall
- 35:27Speaker 5: there are fewer teams than their world.
- 35:28Speaker 2: So here's my message to the NFL. While promoting flag
- 35:32Speaker 2: football is all fine and good, right good, And how
- 35:37Speaker 2: are you promoting tackle football? How are you promoting what
- 35:41Speaker 2: I believe are the the great things about tackle football
- 35:45Speaker 2: and the fact that you can have guys of all
- 35:49Speaker 2: different shapes and sizes on one team, all, you know,
- 35:53Speaker 2: working toward one goal on every play. Like, let's start
- 35:57Speaker 2: promoting tackle football again. Let's you know, you know, like
- 36:02Speaker 2: by promoting war on it, you know, by by all
- 36:05Speaker 2: this emphasis on flag football this day. What do you
- 36:07Speaker 2: what's the background message? Oh, well, you know flag football.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Maybe you don't want to play it. No, you do
- 36:14Speaker 2: want to play tackle football. So we've got to figure
- 36:19Speaker 2: out a way to promote that as much, if not
- 36:22Speaker 2: more than we're promoting flag football these days. For kids.
- 36:27Speaker 2: We got to get kids playing tackle football.
- 36:29Speaker 5: And like, you're sorry, you don't have to do that
- 36:31Speaker 5: at the elimination of flag, No you don't, I can be.
- 36:37Speaker 4: It is.
- 36:38Speaker 5: And if you want to have that to be for
- 36:40Speaker 5: younger kids, because you don't think, you know, like Deuce's
- 36:43Speaker 5: doctor friend, who's you know, very upset about the prospect
- 36:48Speaker 5: of young kids playing football. All right, So play flag
- 36:51Speaker 5: when you're young. And then I guess tell them not
- 36:54Speaker 5: to jump up for a ball and color out in
- 36:55Speaker 5: the air with someone because I've seen a crap ton
- 36:59Speaker 5: of concussions played football.
- 37:02Speaker 2: But and just aside from the goal of having more
- 37:05Speaker 2: players available for the NFL, how about just like tackle
- 37:09Speaker 2: football is a great game, there are more kids that
- 37:12Speaker 2: because they got on a tackle football team kind of
- 37:16Speaker 2: straighten their lives out, gave them direction, gave them that
- 37:19Speaker 2: sense of what it is to be a part of
- 37:21Speaker 2: a team and have a role within a team, whatever
- 37:24Speaker 2: that role is, anywhere from special teams to the quarterback.
- 37:28Speaker 2: There's something for everyone. And most high schools football is
- 37:31Speaker 2: a non cut sport. You go out for the team,
- 37:33Speaker 2: you make it. You might sit on the bench, but
- 37:36Speaker 2: you're gonna be part of it. You're gonna be part
- 37:37Speaker 2: of practice. And you know, I think football separates itself
- 37:42Speaker 2: from all of the sports that way, and it's the
- 37:46Speaker 2: complexity of it and the teamwork that's required and the
- 37:50Speaker 2: different types of players that you need for each position.
- 37:53Speaker 2: There's no other team like, no other sport like it.
- 37:57Speaker 2: So let's start promoting tackle football again.
- 37:59Speaker 5: Can we do that?
- 38:00Speaker 2: Please?
- 38:02Speaker 9: Interesting conversation I had last week. Fred knows this, but
- 38:06Speaker 9: not to tease too much of the future story I'm
- 38:08Speaker 9: writing on Tolly Mantacaine, one of our alums. But he's
- 38:12Speaker 9: like launching with a business partner, this Beach Football League,
- 38:16Speaker 9: and part.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Of that's another story. Somebody's gotta get hurt.
- 38:20Speaker 9: Well, right, we're not talking about that. What was it
- 38:23Speaker 9: the Pro Bowl?
- 38:24Speaker 1: Right?
- 38:25Speaker 9: But it's interesting because it's in the summer and it's
- 38:29Speaker 9: on the beach, so you're kind of making it more accessible.
- 38:33Speaker 9: You don't really need pads. You just need a ball
- 38:35Speaker 9: and your friends to go out and play. But the
- 38:38Speaker 9: hope is that playing beach tackle football, it's just your bodies, right,
- 38:43Speaker 9: these kids are going to learn how to properly tackle,
- 38:46Speaker 9: how to protect themselves, how to protect the guys they're
- 38:48Speaker 9: going up against. And I don't think it's necessarily a solution,
- 38:51Speaker 9: but it's just an interesting way that they're trying to
- 38:54Speaker 9: grow the game.
- 38:54Speaker 2: And when you grow up, did you grow playing tackle
- 38:57Speaker 2: football in the backyard, of course? Yeah, without pads. Without pads,
- 39:02Speaker 2: we played tackle football, right, I don't remember anyone really
- 39:05Speaker 2: getting that hurt.
- 39:06Speaker 5: I don't remember.
- 39:07Speaker 2: I mean, I mean your sprained fingers and things like that, but.
- 39:10Speaker 5: Nothing nobody got you know, like there was Let's put
- 39:13Speaker 5: it this way.
- 39:14Speaker 2: We don't have pads on a helmet, you don't put
- 39:16Speaker 2: your head first.
- 39:16Speaker 5: There were no more injuries doing that than any of
- 39:19Speaker 5: the other countless sports that we played, right.
- 39:21Speaker 9: Yeah, girls, Soccer is a big one for concussions too.
- 39:24Speaker 9: I mean, they took headballs out of the youth game,
- 39:27Speaker 9: but still it's still very aggressive.
- 39:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it's I mean a lot of sports. I mean
- 39:35Speaker 5: that's the drawback, like their injuries are going to happen. Yeah,
- 39:38Speaker 5: what are you going to do?
- 39:40Speaker 2: Let's go to Todd, North Carolina Hate Todd.
- 39:44Speaker 12: Hey, guys, how are you doing?
- 39:45Speaker 2: Okay?
- 39:47Speaker 12: I have a really strange feeling about this year. Last
- 39:50Speaker 12: year I had hope, but I feel like we had
- 39:54Speaker 12: fewer questions last year, and this year I feel confident.
- 39:58Speaker 12: I don't know why. I know we've got more questions
- 40:00Speaker 12: the defense after what will happened last year, but it
- 40:03Speaker 12: just feels like there's more oversight. It seems like there's
- 40:07Speaker 12: more people involved in actually working together. I don't know.
- 40:11Speaker 12: Last year, I just didn't feel coordinated. It didn't feel
- 40:14Speaker 12: like there was somebody who stepped up and said, hey,
- 40:16Speaker 12: I'm in charge, this is where it's going. And the
- 40:20Speaker 12: difference seems to be very almost palatable, And I was wondering,
- 40:23Speaker 12: how are you guys feeling in the comparison, like where.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Is your well? I think I agree with you, Todd.
- 40:30Speaker 2: The first thing I started the show off was this
- 40:32Speaker 2: after watching Vrabel today, the one word that stood out
- 40:35Speaker 2: to me it was confidence. Confidence. I'm confident in him.
- 40:39Speaker 2: He's confident in himself. Uh, and I think his staff
- 40:43Speaker 2: and like you said, it gives you that comfort, Well.
- 40:47Speaker 12: Yeah, it doesn't feel like there are multiple people trying
- 40:50Speaker 12: to lead the team, and that kind of last year,
- 40:52Speaker 12: it's kind of felt like that things were there wasn't
- 40:55Speaker 12: just one leader. It felt like there was just too many.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Well, Gerard Mayo had no experience.
- 41:00Speaker 5: But I agree one thousand percent with that. If if
- 41:03Speaker 5: there's one thing that came from me, it's that Mike
- 41:05Speaker 5: Rabel's in charge. I agree with Todd. I think that's
- 41:07Speaker 5: a very very good point. Last year there was countless
- 41:12Speaker 5: examples of collaborative. Yeah, we're going to collaborate. We don't
- 41:16Speaker 5: want people in silos. It's going to be a collaborative,
- 41:20Speaker 5: no collaborative talk. Rabel's in charge.
- 41:21Speaker 9: And that's one thing I loved about Rabel's press conference
- 41:24Speaker 9: today talking about his coaching staff was the two buzzwords
- 41:27Speaker 9: were trust and loyalty. And I think if you trust
- 41:31Speaker 9: your coaching staff and they're loyal to their head coach,
- 41:34Speaker 9: it's going to get you a lot further.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Yep, yep, Brad's in Ohio. What's up, Brad?
- 41:40Speaker 13: Hey, how you doing this afternoon?
- 41:43Speaker 2: Okay?
- 41:44Speaker 9: Good?
- 41:46Speaker 13: I just wanted to just say that as far as
- 41:51Speaker 13: the Titans concerned, I'd have to beg to differ the
- 41:55Speaker 13: coast and love of the best tie end for a
- 41:58Speaker 13: and that would fit our our team. I think he's
- 42:03Speaker 13: an intermediate tight end. He's got good hands, he runs
- 42:06Speaker 13: good routes, and he gets the yards after the catch,
- 42:08Speaker 13: so he's really a good tight end.
- 42:11Speaker 2: You know.
- 42:11Speaker 13: Hopefully we'll all look into him too. And then there's
- 42:14Speaker 13: a running back from Michigan to uh Khalil Maulings. He's
- 42:19Speaker 13: not really no one's gonna pick him. I don't think
- 42:22Speaker 13: he'll be an undrafted free agent, but he is like
- 42:25Speaker 13: a very physical runner, and you know he's he'd fit
- 42:30Speaker 13: the scheme well, I think. And he actually can line
- 42:32Speaker 13: up as a fullback too. I think, yeah, okay, he
- 42:38Speaker 13: would fit in that regard. Then Donovan Edwards, and then
- 42:42Speaker 13: I think if if if anyone.
- 42:44Speaker 11: I would pick at four would be Mason Graham.
- 42:47Speaker 13: Because you guys were talking earlier, I got a check
- 42:50Speaker 13: to where you were talking about that each line being solid,
- 42:56Speaker 13: and you know, I can tell you that if you
- 42:59Speaker 13: put Mason Grant him in the middle of our line,
- 43:01Speaker 13: or that other defensive tackle that Kenneth Grant uh there,
- 43:08Speaker 13: that that side of the balls. You know, it's gonna
- 43:10Speaker 13: be all right.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Especially if Barmore comes back.
- 43:13Speaker 5: Brad, you know we are allowed to take guys that
- 43:15Speaker 5: didn't go to Michigan.
- 43:18Speaker 13: Well, yeah, and there is a lot of other you know,
- 43:22Speaker 13: that Green guy I think would be outstanding, you know,
- 43:27Speaker 13: on the edge, and adul.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Carter if he's there, two edge guys, Absolutely we'll take him.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Thanks for the call, Brad, appreciate it.
- 43:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean we heard from Brad last week talking
- 43:39Speaker 5: about and there's you know, there's some talent that you know,
- 43:42Speaker 5: especially on defense for Michigan and those guys. You know,
- 43:45Speaker 5: Grant would make sense. The tight end is he's a
- 43:48Speaker 5: better receiver. I think he's a better route runner, Lloyd
- 43:51Speaker 5: Brad said than Warren Is. I think Warren is considered
- 43:54Speaker 5: a better all around player, better all around tight end blocking. Yeah,
- 43:59Speaker 5: you know, he's certainly as the versatility. He's done a
- 44:01Speaker 5: million different things for Penn State. But Colston Loveland, I believe,
- 44:05Speaker 5: is considered the better receiver. So you can make an eye.
- 44:09Speaker 5: I wouldn't take either one of them in the first round.
- 44:10Speaker 5: Speak of receiver, mean not overall. I'm talking about four. Yeah,
- 44:13Speaker 5: I wouldn't take either one of them at four.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Speaking of receivers, you know, and this happens every year,
- 44:17Speaker 2: so read into it what you will. But McMillan seems
- 44:20Speaker 2: to be dropping a little.
- 44:22Speaker 5: Well, because this is what happens when the NFL guys
- 44:24Speaker 5: start watching, Yeah, like when when they get evaluated. This
- 44:28Speaker 5: is this is it happens because the NFL teams have
- 44:33Speaker 5: a better understanding that they're not always right. Sometimes the
- 44:36Speaker 5: mel Kuipers of the world end up being right and
- 44:38Speaker 5: the NFL teams are wrong. But once the gms and
- 44:42Speaker 5: the personnel evaluators start really stacking the draft boards, they
- 44:46Speaker 5: look different. And that's how you see the massive change.
- 44:49Speaker 5: He's the first guy that i've seen he's starting to drop.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know some of it is too that,
- 44:55Speaker 2: you know, they want them to drop because they want
- 44:57Speaker 2: to grab them. But but we'll see, we'll see, you know.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Like unfortunately, you know, when I've heard, I've seen your
- 45:05Speaker 2: shows talk about this a lot. It's not the best
- 45:10Speaker 2: year to have a lot of cap space, and it's
- 45:13Speaker 2: not the best year to be picking high in the draft,
- 45:16Speaker 2: and unfortunately the Patriots are in both of those guys.
- 45:19Speaker 5: I would argue it's never a really good year to
- 45:21Speaker 5: have a lot of cap space, but the other part
- 45:24Speaker 5: is unfortunate. Yeah, the draft is especially with.
- 45:28Speaker 2: What they need.
- 45:29Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, like tackles and wide receivers aren't considered
- 45:32Speaker 5: to be great in this draft now, and Brad just mentioned,
- 45:37Speaker 5: you know, like the Mason Graham's of the world. It
- 45:39Speaker 5: is supposed to be a strong defensive line YEP class,
- 45:42Speaker 5: So maybe that's the direction you go.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Junior in Minneapolis writes in another email criticizing Evan. So
- 45:49Speaker 2: I'm going to read it, Evan, I think you need
- 45:52Speaker 2: to be a little more open minded when it comes
- 45:54Speaker 2: to draft situations, because you're starting to contradict yourself. Last week,
- 45:59Speaker 2: you dismissed the Patriot It's trading down because you didn't
- 46:01Speaker 2: understand why a team would want to trade up in
- 46:03Speaker 2: this draft. Later in the same show, you dismissed the
- 46:07Speaker 2: Patriots trading up because you didn't understand why a team
- 46:10Speaker 2: would want to trade down in this draft. I can
- 46:12Speaker 2: give you two easy scenarios. One, Chador Sanders falls to four,
- 46:17Speaker 2: the Raiders need a quarterback, and the person who both
- 46:19Speaker 2: reportedly has some personal power and his Chaudor's mentor, Tom Brady,
- 46:24Speaker 2: convinces them to trade up. Two spots to pick him
- 46:27Speaker 2: and two Cleveland doesn't like the quarterbacks and might prefer
- 46:31Speaker 2: Hunter plus picks to just Carter, and is willing to
- 46:35Speaker 2: trade down two spots if they know the Giants want Sanders.
- 46:38Speaker 2: I'm not saying these scenarios are likely, but the way
- 46:40Speaker 2: you dismissed the Patriots trading the fourth pick altogether is
- 46:44Speaker 2: reaching Paul levels of stubbornness.
- 46:47Speaker 5: Wow, cut Astray.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Yeah, sure what your kids say, so I use that.
- 46:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm gonna defend Devan a little bit.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:59Speaker 5: I think Evans reasoning is sound. I don't think it's
- 47:04Speaker 5: very realistic that a team will want to not only
- 47:07Speaker 5: take Sanders but to give added resources in order to
- 47:12Speaker 5: get them. If the Raiders are able to sit tight
- 47:14Speaker 5: and they decide they like him, sure take him. I don't.
- 47:16Speaker 5: I'm not sure he's worth giving up draft picks to
- 47:19Speaker 5: move up a couple of spots and take them. That's
- 47:22Speaker 5: I think Evans point, and the same is true. There's
- 47:25Speaker 5: supposed to be two blue chip guys. If you're in
- 47:27Speaker 5: position to take one of them, why you want to
- 47:29Speaker 5: move down?
- 47:31Speaker 2: Do you see her Rabel's comments about Tom Brady being
- 47:34Speaker 2: part owner of the Raiders.
- 47:36Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not hards all that hard.
- 47:40Speaker 2: But he said it's better for the league to have
- 47:41Speaker 2: him involved. It's good for the league. I just he
- 47:44Speaker 2: should be involved with the Patriots. That's my only problem. Well,
- 47:47Speaker 2: you know, you did your best. I just and I
- 47:50Speaker 2: also like what's going on in Vegas? Where I get
- 47:55Speaker 2: he's Tom Brady, But he comes in with his investment
- 47:59Speaker 2: group and they by I don't know, how what does
- 48:01Speaker 2: he have twenty percent of the team?
- 48:02Speaker 5: Now, Oh, I didn't know what was that big?
- 48:04Speaker 2: Maybe it is maybe maybe that's high, maybe ten percent,
- 48:07Speaker 2: whatever it is, it's not a lot, you know, it's
- 48:09Speaker 2: it's not even close to the majority of the team.
- 48:11Speaker 2: He comes in no football management experience ever, let alone
- 48:16Speaker 2: coaching personnel, and now he's running the place.
- 48:19Speaker 9: Yeah, it's really what people are Maybe it's.
- 48:20Speaker 2: So weird, you know, like they just handed the keys,
- 48:23Speaker 2: like unless that's wrong, Unless he's really not running it.
- 48:27Speaker 9: It would be hard for me to believe that he
- 48:29Speaker 9: would want that responsibility.
- 48:31Speaker 2: I mean, well, how are you going to like travel
- 48:33Speaker 2: around the country doing games every week if you're running
- 48:36Speaker 2: the place.
- 48:37Speaker 9: There's that, there's his kids, there's I mean, I don't
- 48:41Speaker 9: know if he wants to be living in Vegas.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Well, I would say that, just like if your work
- 48:45Speaker 2: life balance is important to you, I would say I
- 48:49Speaker 2: would say just being in Vegas and running a team
- 48:51Speaker 2: is better than doing Fox. So at least you're in
- 48:54Speaker 2: one place, you know. I don't know.
- 48:56Speaker 5: I think him running the place is probably strong you
- 49:00Speaker 5: know who's acurate. But I would say he probably is
- 49:05Speaker 5: heavily involved in the quarterbacks.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Well, supposedly he's like recruiting free agents or going to
- 49:10Speaker 2: be recruiting free.
- 49:11Speaker 9: Agents, and it made it seem like he was recruiting
- 49:13Speaker 9: coaches too, like when they were saying he asks Bill
- 49:17Speaker 9: or tease it to Bill or whatever. I don't know.
- 49:19Speaker 9: I feel like it's just a little overblown. I think
- 49:21Speaker 9: he's probably lending a lot of mentorship and consulting, but
- 49:26Speaker 9: I don't think he's laying the hammer down and making
- 49:29Speaker 9: the ultimate decisions.

- 51:07Speaker 4: Hi, Hi Karen, good morning. Is that Joe's okay? Karen?
- 51:16Speaker 4: What do you got? No statements? What do you got?
- 51:23Speaker 4: Thank God? Uh? Huh?
- 51:36Speaker 9: Him and interviewing and basically how.
- 51:38Speaker 4: Did that all shot out? Yeah?
- 51:40Speaker 16: Well, again, just looking at the staff, extremely proud of
- 51:43Speaker 16: the staff that we were able to put together. It's
- 51:46Speaker 16: difficult in the National Football League to be able to
- 51:50Speaker 16: get you know, every coach that you may covet or
- 51:53Speaker 16: may want to get outside the coordinators that you know
- 51:56Speaker 16: aren't a coordinator a somewhere else, just because of the roles,
- 51:58Speaker 16: Like teams are under contract. Some teams want to keep
- 52:01Speaker 16: the coaches that they have they feel like they're good coaches.
- 52:03Speaker 16: But we were able to put together a great staff,
- 52:06Speaker 16: one that we're really proud of. And you asked about Josh,
- 52:08Speaker 16: and I would say that, you know, having had communications
- 52:11Speaker 16: with Josh and in my role in Cleveland, Uh, he
- 52:14Speaker 16: wasn't under contract with the team, So we had numerous conversations,
- 52:20Speaker 16: interviewed a handful of great candidates and you know, in
- 52:23Speaker 16: the NFL, like Josh was the best fit to lead
- 52:26Speaker 16: our offense, just like Terrell was the best fit to
- 52:29Speaker 16: lead our defense.
- 52:29Speaker 4: And Jeremy and Tom returning to to lead the special
- 52:34Speaker 4: teams unit.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Are the defense.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the plan, you know what I mean. Like
- 52:40Speaker 4: he's gonna be the defensive coordinator, He's gonna call defenses.
- 52:43Speaker 16: And you know, he's an aggressive minded coach that's coached
- 52:48Speaker 16: really aggressive defensive lineman. That's what he Uh, that's his background.
- 52:53Speaker 16: And so I've enjoyed the process of what he's learned
- 52:56Speaker 16: when he's gone to Detroit, what he learned with us
- 52:58Speaker 16: in Tennessee. UH, to be able to tie the back
- 53:01Speaker 16: end together with with the stuff that we want to
- 53:03Speaker 16: do with the front, and those conversations that have been
- 53:06Speaker 16: going on, UH in the last couple of weeks since
- 53:08Speaker 16: everybody's been together.
- 53:11Speaker 13: For a point in Cleveland where there was a conversation
- 53:14Speaker 13: about whether a permanent job was in the future for.
- 53:18Speaker 2: You, and did you tell them, no, my plan is
- 53:20Speaker 2: to leave.
- 53:21Speaker 16: No, I would didn't want to permanently consult in Cleveland
- 53:24Speaker 16: for the rest of my career.
- 53:26Speaker 4: Different position. No, No, enjoyed my time.
- 53:29Speaker 16: I appreciate UH, Jimmy and d Tire has them family,
- 53:34Speaker 16: Andrew and and Kevin and the relationships that I got
- 53:37Speaker 16: to to make there. It's been fun to see those
- 53:42Speaker 16: uh individuals. I walked into the suite last night in
- 53:44Speaker 16: between interviews and they said.
- 53:46Speaker 4: I'll get out of here. I said, I don't work
- 53:47Speaker 4: for you guys anymore. You can't tell me what to do.
- 53:49Speaker 16: So it was fun just to see them and no,
- 53:51Speaker 16: but there was no conversation about any long term plans
- 53:55Speaker 16: there I was. I mean, I would have, you know,
- 53:57Speaker 16: listened because I didn't have a job at the time,
- 54:01Speaker 16: maybe learn from that experience in Cleveland that helped contribute
- 54:03Speaker 16: to you as a coach.
- 54:05Speaker 4: Just how critical.
- 54:08Speaker 16: You know, just just the little things right, just the
- 54:10Speaker 16: staff and being mindful of when new coaches come on
- 54:14Speaker 16: to the staff. And I know that Kevin was conscious
- 54:16Speaker 16: of that. I think that's why he I love the
- 54:18Speaker 16: idea of having me work with the offense. It's something
- 54:21Speaker 16: that I've thought was very beneficial to those coaches, to
- 54:25Speaker 16: me to have conversations the way that some offensive coaches
- 54:30Speaker 16: see things and the way that defensive coaches may see
- 54:32Speaker 16: them a little differently, and so have been able to
- 54:36Speaker 16: do that in New England and moved Ben over to
- 54:41Speaker 16: defense to help to Rell and that staff just look
- 54:44Speaker 16: at it from an offensive perspective and things that you know,
- 54:47Speaker 16: we could make sure that we're taken care of, and
- 54:49Speaker 16: that letting slip.
- 54:51Speaker 4: Mike, how would you.
- 54:51Speaker 3: Describe how the team will approach free agency?
- 54:54Speaker 16: Hopefully aggressive? I mean we want to be aggressive. We
- 54:56Speaker 16: want to target players that we feel like are going
- 54:58Speaker 16: to help us. They're going to be the outstanding players.
- 55:01Speaker 16: You're gonna be outstanding additions to the locker room, uh
- 55:04Speaker 16: and the community and if that all fits and and
- 55:06Speaker 16: and the compensation fits. But I'm confident that we'll be aggressive.
- 55:12Speaker 16: We've started some of those discussions, uh internally, and I
- 55:18Speaker 16: think having different plans and having an Option A and
- 55:20Speaker 16: Option B, I mean, things are gonna change. Everybody's looking
- 55:23Speaker 16: at the same players, so we have to be ready
- 55:25Speaker 16: to pivot and adjust and have a vision for each player.
- 55:28Speaker 16: I would say at each level, you know, I mean
- 55:30Speaker 16: there's gonna be this this high level that that things
- 55:34Speaker 16: are gonna get done very quickly.
- 55:36Speaker 4: UH.
- 55:36Speaker 16: That will transition then to you know, maybe just some
- 55:40Speaker 16: some mid range dollars. And then obviously you look at opportunities.
- 55:43Speaker 16: So free agency gets broken down into you know, compensation,
- 55:47Speaker 16: and then it gets broken down into opportunity. And I
- 55:49Speaker 16: feel like we're in a position to offer both as
- 55:51Speaker 16: far as compensation and opportunity for some of these players.
- 55:55Speaker 7: What's What's what's one of the bigger things the team
- 55:58Speaker 7: has to do to support Drake Man.
- 56:00Speaker 16: Well, there's a lot, you know. I mean again, I
- 56:01Speaker 16: think you always talk about being able to protect them.
- 56:04Speaker 4: You have to be able to.
- 56:06Speaker 16: You know, have some guys that that can that can
- 56:09Speaker 16: help them on the edges and be able to to
- 56:11Speaker 16: make contested touches and that don't you don't have to
- 56:13Speaker 16: be perfect, right, You don't have to have you know,
- 56:16Speaker 16: perfect ball placement, right. And then those are all things
- 56:19Speaker 16: that we talk about trying to support Drake believe in
- 56:23Speaker 16: that he is the you know, the future of our
- 56:25Speaker 16: franchise at quarterback and being able to meet with him
- 56:28Speaker 16: and talk with him and just get to know him
- 56:30Speaker 16: as a person. You know, but you have to look
- 56:33Speaker 16: at the lines of scrimmage, and you look at the
- 56:35Speaker 16: look no further than the Super Bowl game, where you
- 56:38Speaker 16: know that that game was clearly run uh at the
- 56:41Speaker 16: line of scrimmage.
- 56:41Speaker 10: Which it rests to as much as coming out in
- 56:44Speaker 10: the drafts.
- 56:45Speaker 4: I think it's a good draft.
- 56:46Speaker 16: I mean, I think it's there's a lot of names,
- 56:48Speaker 16: there's a lot of personalities. Some guys we met last
- 56:50Speaker 16: night that were serious. Some guys had a different personality
- 56:54Speaker 16: was maybe a little bit more you know, engaging, and
- 56:59Speaker 16: and I think that's on. I think all we're trying
- 57:01Speaker 16: to do through this process is get the players to
- 57:03Speaker 16: be as authentic as possible, to figure out.
- 57:06Speaker 2: Where the fit is.
- 57:09Speaker 16: And and how they can add to our to our
- 57:10Speaker 16: roster and our team and the vision that we have
- 57:12Speaker 16: for him and and I would say that last night
- 57:15Speaker 16: was a great start, uh going through that process with
- 57:17Speaker 16: the you know, with the players that came in there,
- 57:19Speaker 16: and it just happened to be the D line and
- 57:21Speaker 16: a lot of the edge line edge players and the
- 57:23Speaker 16: line inside linebackers.
- 57:27Speaker 4: Coach to consult.
- 57:28Speaker 5: Are those friends you've seen in the NFL that kind
- 57:30Speaker 5: of change the way you think about merching, what you
- 57:33Speaker 5: think about personal different.
- 57:35Speaker 4: Positions, Well, I I don't.
- 57:40Speaker 16: I'm always gonna believe that coaching is about connections and
- 57:43Speaker 16: making relationships with players and holding them accountable and being
- 57:46Speaker 16: honest and giving them things that are gonna help them
- 57:48Speaker 16: and being creative. I'll never stray from that, and I'm
- 57:52Speaker 16: gonna continue to always try to find ways to teach them,
- 57:54Speaker 16: whatever their capacity is, whatever we have to do to
- 57:57Speaker 16: get them the knowledge that they need.
- 57:59Speaker 4: We're gonna try to developed players.
- 58:00Speaker 16: We've done that in our past, in our history, focusing
- 58:05Speaker 16: on what they can do as opposed to what they can't.
- 58:08Speaker 16: Having an energy every day to come in the building.
- 58:12Speaker 16: You know, it's a long season, and then I have
- 58:15Speaker 16: to be able to provide that and let that trickle
- 58:18Speaker 16: down through our coaches and our players. Trends I think,
- 58:22Speaker 16: you know, look how critical the nickel position has become
- 58:26Speaker 16: and how dynamic that player can be. You know, you
- 58:31Speaker 16: need guys that can cover, obviously, but the edges of
- 58:34Speaker 16: the defense and be able to rush and affect a quarterback.
- 58:36Speaker 4: I don't know if any of that will change.
- 58:38Speaker 16: There'll be scheming things that change, and it's some teams
- 58:40Speaker 16: believe in our po some believe in, you know, trying
- 58:43Speaker 16: to block the extra defender. Some teams believe in reading
- 58:45Speaker 16: the end and letting the quarterback. You know, those are
- 58:49Speaker 16: things that we're always going to adapt and adjust to
- 58:52Speaker 16: and add when we feel like is is important. But
- 58:55Speaker 16: the fundamentals and the technique, our effort in which we
- 58:58Speaker 16: play with I think those will withstand the test of time,
- 59:01Speaker 16: regardless of what scheme you want to runage.
- 59:04Speaker 2: You've really gotten to know your roster since you've been hired.
- 59:07Speaker 7: Do you view this as a long term rebuild or
- 59:11Speaker 7: you know you just mentioned you're looking to be aggressive
- 59:12Speaker 7: and free agency.
- 59:13Speaker 10: Are you looking for a rapid rate of improvement here?
- 59:15Speaker 4: Well, we have to improve. I mean, I think that's
- 59:17Speaker 4: the that's the goal. I don't you know.
- 59:19Speaker 16: Our expectations aren't going to change. It's going to be
- 59:21Speaker 16: to win the division. It's going to be the host
- 59:23Speaker 16: home playoff games, and it's going to be to compete
- 59:25Speaker 16: for championships. So we're never going to put a time,
- 59:29Speaker 16: timetable or any sort of prediction on when that may happen,
- 59:32Speaker 16: but it has to happen. And it's going to start
- 59:36Speaker 16: April seventh when our guys come in and we're going
- 59:37Speaker 16: to build a program.
- 59:38Speaker 4: We're going to have a foundation.
- 59:40Speaker 16: We're going to give them something to believe in and
- 59:42Speaker 16: to be proud of, and hopefully they're able to hold
- 59:45Speaker 16: each other accountable and to that standard and if not,
- 59:47Speaker 16: then my job is to protect the football team.
- 59:50Speaker 3: Got a sense at all, Sorr, just to fall up
- 59:51Speaker 3: really quickly.
- 59:52Speaker 8: Have you gotten a sense at all locally that that
- 59:54Speaker 8: fans aren't don't necessarily have the appetite for a longer
- 59:57Speaker 8: process when it comes to getting back to it, Well, I.
- 59:59Speaker 16: Don't think anybody has a longer appetite. I mean, we
- 1:00:02Speaker 16: all want to win, Like that's why we're here, That's
- 1:00:03Speaker 16: why I got hired, And it's to win. It's put
- 1:00:07Speaker 16: a product on the field that they can be excited about,
- 1:00:10Speaker 16: that they can care about and they can support, Like
- 1:00:13Speaker 16: that's the whole goal. And I don't they shouldn't have
- 1:00:16Speaker 16: to wait very long. And you know, but we also
- 1:00:18Speaker 16: have to understand that, you know, we're not gonna fix
- 1:00:22Speaker 16: every issue on the first day of free agency, or
- 1:00:25Speaker 16: we're not going to fill every hole on the first
- 1:00:28Speaker 16: or second day of the draft.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: I'm sorry you had a question right here to that point.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: Just yet, like some of these other people, it'll.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: Be so nice.
- 1:00:37Speaker 9: Given the amount of salary cap space you guys do have,
- 1:00:39Speaker 9: would you feel comfortable paying a free agent, perhaps like
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: above their market value in order to ensure that you
- 1:00:45Speaker 9: fill a need.
- 1:00:45Speaker 16: Well, I mean, I'm sure like I like to shop
- 1:00:47Speaker 16: like everybody else. And so when you go and there's
- 1:00:49Speaker 16: only one of you know, a certain car, maybe you
- 1:00:52Speaker 16: have to pay a little bit more for that one
- 1:00:54Speaker 16: car because there's only one of them. When you start
- 1:00:57Speaker 16: to get into a range where you feel like there's
- 1:00:59Speaker 16: a area where players are comparable and you like three
- 1:01:03Speaker 16: or four players in a certain area for a certain role,
- 1:01:06Speaker 16: you may not have to overspend. But it's free agency.
- 1:01:08Speaker 16: I think that everybody overspends sometimes in free agency.
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: How does how much input does Josh McDaniels get on
- 1:01:14Speaker 7: which players are signed or drafted you the offense.
- 1:01:19Speaker 16: I would say it would be the same as our
- 1:01:21Speaker 16: entire coaching staff. I want them to be included in
- 1:01:24Speaker 16: those conversations. The one thing I've learned as a head
- 1:01:28Speaker 16: coach is that there's always going to be players that
- 1:01:31Speaker 16: coaches are gonna covet, and there's gonna be players that
- 1:01:33Speaker 16: scouts are gonna cove it for certain reasons and they
- 1:01:36Speaker 16: call them traits and all this other stuff, and coaches
- 1:01:38Speaker 16: want players that they can trust. And when we come
- 1:01:41Speaker 16: across those players, I always chuckle because as being a
- 1:01:44Speaker 16: position coach. I'm like, oh, yeah, this guy's gonna love
- 1:01:47Speaker 16: this guy. And then the scouts are gonna love this guy,
- 1:01:48Speaker 16: and they're gonna sit there and argue. So I see
- 1:01:51Speaker 16: that come up, and I can appreciate that. But our
- 1:01:53Speaker 16: coaches are gonna have input. They're gonna evaluate them. They've
- 1:01:58Speaker 16: evaluated the free agents, they've turned the the reports in
- 1:02:01Speaker 16: for us to look at and review, and then then
- 1:02:03Speaker 16: we'll give them a draft list and then they'll you know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 16: provide information on those players as well.
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: History. Pete Abbattani was his night.
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: I thought, I don't know why I remember Joe Brown.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: So the night before I was on the phone with him,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: because yes, there was like who are we? Are we
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: media or the team, blah blah blah. So there was
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: confusion as to who we were to go through to
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: get the credentials. So that's why that night before I
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: was on the phone with them to make sure that
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: we were good. And I was told by the headed
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: guy that we were good. We show up the next
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: day no credentials and their excuse was, well, we're all tired, that's.
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: What she said.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: Remember that too.
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: And I said to me Brian me, Brian and Andy
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: went gotta go.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: So but did we get our credentials? Yeah? Yeah, okay,
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: come with the super Bowl?
- 1:02:57Speaker 13: All right?
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: But I mean like the super Bowl happens after the
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: championships you went to.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Yes, my late favorite thing is when they which one
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: was that?
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Again?
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Like okay, all right, let me check my rings.
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: That's how I can start looping you into my text
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: chance Now.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: I think it was.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: Right right Jacksonville. Oh, let me tell you how bad
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: the hotel wasn't the super Bowl?
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Which one was that?
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: I found a picture of an old shot of you know,
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: the crafts used to have us, you know, when they
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: would bring the trophies out and we take pictures and yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: so I have a picture with me, Robert, Jonathan and
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: Danny with the the Lombardi. So I took a picture
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: of the picture and send it to Mic and go, Mike,
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: these are Lombardi trophies. The NFL gives them out to
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: a team that wins the Super Bowl. I haven't we

- 1:04:43Speaker 2: Hey guys, not just on the phone, we can actually
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: see them.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Technology we're here. Sorry about that. You gotta look at
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: our faces.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: So tell us everything, tell us everything that's going on
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: so far.
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: IM gonna need you to put the phone down and listen.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: Yeah, y yeah. Adam Cheff tweetings on the show.
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: He's putting out an advertisment, right Chef. So well, the
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: football part.
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: We were heard from Mike Rabel at the at the
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: podium this morning, which I'm sure you guys probably heard. Uh,
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: then he went to do serious then he talked with
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: us for a little bit, so we'll be posting that shortly.
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: Did a nice interview, was very very easy interview, Mike Rabel.
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: I'm finding here as we as we talked to him
- 1:05:23Speaker 6: more and more so had a nice ten minute conversation
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: or so with him, and then all the Boston media
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: went out to the tables out on the side and
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: had another little scrum. So, you know, three big scrums.
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: I guess two really, but you know, Brabel's gotten grilled
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: through the car wash. And yeah, I thought some interesting stuff.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: I'm sure you guys have touched on some of it,
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: but yeah, it seems like he's he's excited to be
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: here for the Patriots and and enjoys talking to the guys.
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: I think that's my favorite takeaway takeaway.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: I mean, it's hard to say where to start.
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: I would say for me, I thought it was interesting
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: talking about Terrell william calling the defense. That's something we've
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: been talking about and Evan and I went into that
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: a little bit with our interview with Rabel. You guys know,
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: I love the defense and you know, trying to pick
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: his brain a little bit about the scheme and what
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: direction they might be going. He mentioned that they had
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: talked to a lot of the defensive linemen and edges
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: and linebackers last night, so they're starting that interview process.
- 1:06:20Speaker 6: So that was one of the one of the nuggets
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: I thought that was interesting. One other nugget I threw
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: out there, I thought, I think from the scrum was,
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: you know, him talking about he'd been in conversations with
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: Josh throughout his time last year while he was in
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: Cleveland and bouncing stuff off Josh and something we hadn't
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: heard before.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: So yeah, a lot of good stuff. I think Evan's
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: gonna write something out. We're trying to plow through it all,
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: but yeah.
- 1:06:41Speaker 7: Yeah, I would say that for me, that just talking
- 1:06:44Speaker 7: to him about his pitch to free agents, you know,
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: what would be your pitch to free agents, because let's
- 1:06:50Speaker 7: face it, the Patriots have to make themselves a destination
- 1:06:53Speaker 7: that this offseason in more ways and just money. And
- 1:06:56Speaker 7: I thought it was interesting he said, you know that
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: he would use ten stimonials of similar types of players
- 1:07:03Speaker 7: and that sort of thing, you know, how we use
- 1:07:05Speaker 7: this guy and how he would see how we could
- 1:07:07Speaker 7: use you and get the most out of you. So
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: he gave a little pitch there of how he would
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: go about recruiting free agents, which was cool.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: Great.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: So, Evan, before I asked you my first question, I
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: just want to let you know that a fan corrected you.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: The Barn in Indiana is where Butler plays basketball. It's
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: known as the Barn.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: Okay, Hinklefield is the Barn?
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Hinklefield that right? Yeah, it's also known as the Cathedral
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: of Basketball or Indiana.
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: Yeah, that's where Hoosias was filmed. Right, So be better?
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Yeah, be better?
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: Not so arrogant, Brad Stevens. If Butler correct Yeah.
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: So were either one of you gentlemen? You know you
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: talked about Terrell Williams deuce and the plan. I think
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: he said the plan is for him to call the defense.
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: Were you guys surprised that it just was like a
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: plan and not necessarily he is going to call it,
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: because you know, plans can change.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Oh.
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: I didn't think of it that way, Paul, But that's
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: why we rely on you to get into the minutia
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: of the words.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: You know, it sounds like that's the plan. I don't know.
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: I didn't really think any more of it.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: Than that.
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: But I think I mean, we talked a little bit
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: about on the podcast wrap up that we just did
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: that we've seen new coordinators now the last couple of years,
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: so I think there's some expectation that there might be
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: a little bit of growing pains there. And you know, certainly,
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: I just think they're not interested in trying to put
- 1:08:32Speaker 6: all their players into their scheme. They want to find
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: what these players are and then and then tailor things
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: to them that way. But we'll see how it all
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: comes together. I mean, I think that's that's a great question, Paul,
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: how is it going to come together? And you know,
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: what is toroll? What's his style going to be? Like
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: we saw a new defensivecordiing with DeMarcus Covington last year.
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: Everybody brings their own unique twist to it. So I
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: just don't think we know a lot about him. He's
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: still kind of an unknown quantity. But it does sound
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: like he wants to be aggressive. And I think when
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: we talked of Rabel, we were kind of interpreting it
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: like it seems like he wants to get a one
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: gap style and get upfield and go get the quarterback.
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: So I think we're both a little bit encouraged by that,
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: but too again, it's it sounds like they're they're doing
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: the deep dive into these into these players now and
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: trying to find like the personality fits maybe first before
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: they really drill into the film.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Evan, before I get into Barth, what have you
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: heard any scuttle buds any any have you talked to
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: anyone outside of our own crew about guys rising falling?
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: We heard Ted McMillan might be a guy who's falling
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: a little bit. Have you had a chance so far?
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: I know you just got there, but have you had
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: a chance to talk to anybody about that type of stuff?
- 1:09:40Speaker 7: Yeah, definitely sounds like the wide receivers at least the scuttlebed,
- 1:09:44Speaker 7: as you said around here, is that the league is
- 1:09:47Speaker 7: just not overly high on this wide receiver class. I
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: would say the same goes for guys like Luther Burden
- 1:09:54Speaker 7: for example, too. It might be falling a little bit
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: because of his performance last season and some other things.
- 1:09:59Speaker 7: But the main thing is is that we might be
- 1:10:02Speaker 7: talking about is Ted mcmilligan to crack the top twenty,
- 1:10:05Speaker 7: not the top ten?
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: Right like that?
- 1:10:07Speaker 7: That's the conversations, right now, and a lot of people
- 1:10:10Speaker 7: I think are interested in seeing how he runs, if
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: he does run here, and how he works out here
- 1:10:15Speaker 7: to see that athleticism and test him in that way
- 1:10:17Speaker 7: from an athletic profile standpoint.
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: So I think Daniel Jeremiah and mel.
- 1:10:23Speaker 7: Kiper Bolt had Luther Burden outside of the first round
- 1:10:26Speaker 7: on their mock drafts. You know, so there might be
- 1:10:29Speaker 7: more of the A twenty twenty three field to this
- 1:10:31Speaker 7: receiver class where it's kind of starts at twenty and
- 1:10:34Speaker 7: then like a bunch of names come off from twenty
- 1:10:37Speaker 7: to forty, let's say, instead of starting earlier.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, guys, if I could hop in real quick,
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: there was one prospect up at the podium this morning
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: that we heard from. I think his name is Matthew Smith.
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: I sent Paul a picture of him. I guess they
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: had gave him his own day to get.
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: Up on the treum.
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: Intriguing prospect, intriguing, intriguing, measurables, really known for his ability
- 1:10:57Speaker 6: to put down bud lights.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: We look forward to seeing how he tests out this
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: week here in Indianapolis.
- 1:11:03Speaker 9: Was he wearing socks?
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: No, no, no, I know what he's known for.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: I heard he has off field issues, but that's a
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: story for another day.
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: He's off my board, I'll tell you that.
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: Yeah, his his side to side swaying.
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: They tied him this morning and there's the swaying side
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: to side was really really top notch elite, elite level,
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: if you will, very twitchy.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: Did you get a chance to listen to any other
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: coaches at the podiums and anybody say anything of note?
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: I would just say we didn't, not really, just because
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: we went right from Brable, but we did get to
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: hear Joe Shane right before, and it was just it
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: was kind of funny because right off the top, the
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: first question was like, so say Quan, huh, you kind
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: of felt it was coming, and you know, we're in
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: a different part of our rebuild and those kind of things.
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: But those are, you know, some of the tough questions
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: that get thrown out.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: But we really haven't.
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: We've been we've been kind of here recording and doing stuff.
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: So far we haven't got a lot of those other guys.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: Yeah, we did.
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: We did hear from Shaney was at the pot right
- 1:12:00Speaker 7: before Rabel was, and I thought that, you know, it's
- 1:12:02Speaker 7: obviously interesting with them having to pick before the Patriots
- 1:12:05Speaker 7: in the first round, and he was noncommittal. It sounded
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: like to me at least about what they're going to
- 1:12:10Speaker 7: do at quarterback. They know they need a quarterback, he said,
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: we have one quarterback on the roster, so we definitely
- 1:12:16Speaker 7: need a quarterback. But I don't think they have a
- 1:12:19Speaker 7: great answer right now as to how they're going to
- 1:12:21Speaker 7: go about getting that quarterback. So he did mention that
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: they would like to have a veteran and a young
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: quarterback of both on the roster, kind of like what
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: the Patriots did last year with Drake May and Jacoby Brissett,
- 1:12:31Speaker 7: But he wouldn't commit to is it going to be
- 1:12:33Speaker 7: an expensive veteran, Is it going to be a third
- 1:12:35Speaker 7: overall pick rookie.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: So we'll see.
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: He did have a lot of nice things to say
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: about Ryan Cowden that I heard in his and his
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: briefing in you guys might have been tied up with
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: Mike there's another, you know, sort of Patriot adjacent kind
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: of a comment. Eric Tacosta spoke, I don't know if
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: you guys had heard any of him, you know, the
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: GM for the Ravens sort of indicated that he plans
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: to meet with Ronnie Stay this week his representatives, and
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: he kind of expressed some confidence that they would be
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: able to get a deal done. He didn't guarantee anything,
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: but I wonder if that would sort of cross a
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: big piece off the free agent list for the Patriots.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:16Speaker 7: Yeah, it's interesting because you know, just listening to what
- 1:13:18Speaker 7: Rabel said, you know, he said that they would if
- 1:13:21Speaker 7: there was only one car. I think it was the
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: analogy that he used that they would maybe overpay for
- 1:13:26Speaker 7: that one car, but if they felt like it was
- 1:13:28Speaker 7: a bunch of cars on the lot that were the same,
- 1:13:30Speaker 7: then maybe they would be a little bit more frugal.
- 1:13:33Speaker 7: And like Ronnie Stanley to me in the tackle market
- 1:13:36Speaker 7: is the Ferrari right, Like, He's like the one car
- 1:13:39Speaker 7: and then everybody else, the Cam Robinson's, the Aleric Jackson's, Like,
- 1:13:42Speaker 7: those guys are all kind of in a in a
- 1:13:44Speaker 7: similar boat. So if Ronnie Stanley's off the board at tackle,
- 1:13:48Speaker 7: then I do wonder how much they would really overextend
- 1:13:50Speaker 7: for a Cam Robinson and Aleric Jackson, you know, one
- 1:13:53Speaker 7: of those types of players.
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: It might not be something that they would do.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: Yep, all right, so what else he got? Anything else?
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: Before we let you go. How's Barth doing. Did you
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: guys go to Saint Almos last night?
- 1:14:05Speaker 7: We we did go to Saint Elmos last night. I
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: met up with Barth that afterwards. He was at the
- 1:14:09Speaker 7: Pacers Nuggets game with a group last night. But I
- 1:14:12Speaker 7: just went over to his table, which is about I
- 1:14:15Speaker 7: don't know what I'm bad with this fifty feet You're
- 1:14:18Speaker 7: fifty feet from us, and and he told me that
- 1:14:21Speaker 7: he's a little bit overwhelmed at his first combine.
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: So I just told I just.
- 1:14:25Speaker 7: Told him, listen, you can't get everything. Yeah, you just
- 1:14:28Speaker 7: got to stick to the hits, right. You know what's important.
- 1:14:32Speaker 7: It's as Jerry Madeline likes to say, it's needs and
- 1:14:35Speaker 7: wants right, like you need to get Rabel, but you
- 1:14:38Speaker 7: might want to talk to Duke Tobin later, but the
- 1:14:41Speaker 7: Rabel thing is more important.
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: So when the players come out, there's eight podiums going
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: at once, he's overwhelmed.
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: Now, I know.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: I know he's got to get his pass like he
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: does a Disney World. We did.
- 1:14:55Speaker 7: We did have a great meal at Saint Elmos though
- 1:14:57Speaker 7: last night. We hit it early in the week, which
- 1:15:00Speaker 7: is I think that's a pro move.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Dude.
- 1:15:02Speaker 7: So I think kidding it early in the week before
- 1:15:03Speaker 7: things really get going is the way.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: Yeah, later.
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: And people watch, Yeah, yeah, plenty of that. And No,
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: it's this place feels like it's frozen in time. Like
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: each year you come back here, it's the same people,
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: the same setup, the same weather. I mean, it's just
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: nothing changes here, and I think that's what everybody loves
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: about it.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: All right, So what are we looking forward to later
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: today from you and tomorrow?
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: Yeah, so we'll have our podcast coming out with that
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: interview from Vrabel cut in. We're also looking forward to
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: talking to Mike Greece this afternoon. We're gonna talk to
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: Jordan Reid from ESPN, so those will be cut into
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: tomorrow's podcasts. Just trying to pile up some interviews that
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: we're doing here. And we'll get a chance to talk
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: to Elliot Wolf tomorrow, so he's gonna speak at the
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: podium and then they'll also talk to us. I don't
- 1:15:47Speaker 6: think he's doing the big scrum with the media like
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: Brabel did, so kind of in a little bit of
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: an exclusive to us. So we're looking forward to that
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: talking some draft with him, getting his opinion on this
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: class and hopefully nerding out on some draft stuff with him.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: That's what we're kind of oping.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: So when Elliott talks tomorrow, we'll have that live on
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: Patriots dot Com and as we did today with Rabel,
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: So looking forward to that.
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, just kicking off, We're ready to go.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: All right, guys, Well, enjoy work hard, have fun. And
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: when are we going to talk to you next?
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: You'll hear them on Thursday about the same time. We'll
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: probably ye, yeah, we'll have more more to share than
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: you know, after a couple of days of prospects and stuff,
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: and so yeah, we'll have a little bit a little
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: more information hopefully to share on Thursday with you guys.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: All right, guys, thanks for calling in. Talk to you later.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Thanks guys.
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: All right, bye boys.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: Evan induced from the combine. First time I think we've
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: done that where we've had video and it worked. Yeah,
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: it looked great, sounded good. So good job whoever made
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: that happen. So what's the matter with you two.
- 1:16:52Speaker 9: I'm just thinking in my head about how funny it
- 1:16:54Speaker 9: would be if we had like a barth cam of
- 1:16:57Speaker 9: just like I feel like this is like changing this experience.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Well nine eight point five should definitely have it.
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: He was on my show, No I know, did you
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: see him?
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: Yeah, But I think Alex is talking about following.
- 1:17:09Speaker 9: Walking into the Sneyland for the first time, So I list.
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: Think it's funny that he's overwhelmed. Now.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: Now it's like day one.
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: The NFL coaches and gms they talk and there can
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: be more than one going on at once, but in
- 1:17:20Speaker 5: general terms, they space those out pretty well and you
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: can get everything you need to do once the players
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: start to come out position groups. I don't know what
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: the Senate might have a breakdown in general that there's
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: eight podiums. I don't know if they do it the
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: same way. I'm you know, I haven't been there the
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: last couple of years. But they can be like they again.
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: They do their best to make sure like Shador, Sanders
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: and cam Ward aren't going to be talking at the
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: same time, right, But they don't always succeed in that.
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: Sometimes they come out. They don't want to keep these
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: guys waiting. They just want to get get them in
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: and get them out and get them on with their day.
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: Because they do have their meetings set up with all
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: the teams, they have a schedule to keep So it
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: can be overwhelming when you're trying to get you know,
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: Will Campbell, Kelvin Banks, you know, the you know, there
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: maybe two other the guy from Ohio State, the guy
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: from Oregon. They could all be out there roughly at
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: the same time. They're all tackles, the all guys that
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: the Patriots reporters are going to want to hear from.
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: That's when you get overwhelmed.
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: So, and then you know, like you call in and
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: friend's like, you know what did CAMPB would have to say, well,
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: I didn't. I didn't hear him, you know, like I
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: sent you all going out there and you didn't even
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: talk to the guy that what are you doing?
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: But for a guy like Bart, this could be information overload. Yeah,
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: so we might have to He's not our responsibility. I
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: guess he's not eight point five. So all right, back
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: to the emails at podcasts at Patriots dot com. I
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: guess are on air light is like more it reads,
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: it's more of a suggestion out there, we got somebody
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: to something.
- 1:18:53Speaker 9: It's like a street sweeper.
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: The tunnel out here, moving the dust around.
- 1:18:59Speaker 9: It sounds like they're right up against it was.
- 1:19:01Speaker 10: Like they were like seem like they were right powerwashing
- 1:19:05Speaker 10: on the walls as he drives the zamboni.
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: By them the zamboni, I wish you were being kidding.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: Let's see Floyd and Redford Michigan. When Mike Reese speaks,
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: I need to pay attention, or he says, I tend
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: to pay attention. He recently posted that if the Patriots
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: deemed that Will Campbell isn't worthy of the fourth pick,
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: could Mason Graham be? This coming from Mike Reese made
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: me believe that Mason Graham could be a real consideration
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: and not just some mock draft selection. I am a
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: Mason Graham guy, but I'm reading too much into this.
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: No, I think Mason Graham is absolutely in play. He's
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: by all accounts a top ten pick right.
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: Well, And I think that what Floyd is saying is
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: something that you've said in the past, Like Mike Reese
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: doesn't just throw things out there a lot of times.
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: But I'm not going to get into that. Yeah, Like,
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: I understand what Floyd's saying, and mister Floyd is perceptive,
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: but I'm not suggesting that the Patriots like me because
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: Mike we said that. I'm saying Mason Graham is by
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: all accounts a candidate to get taken somewhere between. I
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: would say three and ten, because the only two guys
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: that I would have seen that are definitively listed ahead
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: of him are Abdul carter In Travis Hunter. Am I
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: wrong on that right now? The rest could be your preference.
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: Will Campbell, Alex likes Mason Graham, maybe Fred Maybe you
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: like Tyler Warren, you know, maybe someone on the Jalen Walker.
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: You know, there's a lot of different options depending on
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: your preference. But Mason Graham I think wouldn't be a
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: surprise pick No.
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: Four.
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: No, I don't think that would be a surprise to me,
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: to many people. Nope, So I think mister Floyd is
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: onto something.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Ben in Hershey, Pennsylvania. ESPN currently has Sanderson Ward as
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: their seventeen and eighteenth ranked prospects.
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: I've seen them fifteen twenty, I've seen them around that.
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: That's a little high, to be honest with you, for me,
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: like I would think if you're just ranking the prospects,
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: it's not a mock draft, just ranking the prospects, I'm
- 1:21:08Speaker 5: not sure they would be in my top twenty.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: In twenty seventeen. The top ranked quarterbacks prospects were Deshaun
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: Watson twenty eighth, Mitch Trubisky forty second, and Patrick Mahomes
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: fifty second.
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: Yeah. See that would be more what I would think
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: with these guys.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: The Texas Chiefs and Bears all traded up to draft
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: them at least sixteen picks ahead of how they were ranked.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: The forty nine Ers received the picks used to draft
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: Fred Warner and Alvin Kamara. The Bills received the picks
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: used to draft tore Davius White and Rashaan.
- 1:21:39Speaker 5: Can we go back?
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: This is where I get this is a me problem.
- 1:21:43Speaker 5: He just said. The forty nine ers used the picks
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: to take.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: Who Fred Warner? Yeah, and Alvin Kamara?
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: Who's Alvin Kamara play for the Saints? So Fred Warner
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: plays for whoty?
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: Well he used to pay them for forty nine ers.
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: And the Niners? Yeah right, So how do the Niners
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: take in them those guys? Did I miss this?
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: And I yeah? Well, he said, the forty nine ers
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: received the picks to Fred Warner and they didn't take
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: Alvin Kamer unless it wasn't there a game.
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: This is my point. Unless you missed words in the email. No,
- 1:22:15Speaker 5: had the forty nine ers picked Fred Warner and Alvin Kamara.
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: The forty nine Ers received the picks used to draft
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: Fred Warner and Alvin Commar Kamara.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: Two different teams made those picks, so I.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: Don't know what he's talking about. The Bills received the
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: picks used to draft to Davius White Rashaun Evans. The
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: Browns received the picks used to draft Denzel Ward and
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: Jabrill Pepper's not good either. Why can't the Patriots convert
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: the fourth overall pick into multiple pieces just like the
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: forty nine ers, Bills and Browns did in the year
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: without perceived high end quarterback.
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: Talent, they could if somebody wants them. Ye, that year,
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: somebody wanted them.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Yep, yep.
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: So I don't know, so we'll see.
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but Kamara was Yeah, it wasn't like a draft
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: day trader.
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: Yeah. I'm not gonna get caught up on it. Only
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: because of no The Saints took him I think in
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: the third round, maybe the fourth round. But the point
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: of the email is those quarterbacks weren't highly rated, but
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: they still got teams to move up and get them.
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: The same could happen this time around. I don't think
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: it will because I think there's like Mitch Trubisky was
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: widely considered to be a top three pick for a
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: whole draft, a whole year before he was drafted. These
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: guys weren't. Yeah, so we'll see, maybe someone will.
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: Do you know, a stupid trade up like like that, Well,
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: it's not stupid if they think it's good.
- 1:23:49Speaker 5: Well, if the Raiders trade up or the you know,
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: one of these teams trades up to get a guy
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: who everybody is convinced that they're unsure of, right, makes sense.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: But if they end up making it. But if the
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: guy ends up being really good, then the Raiders are
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: smarter than everybody else and.
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: They got it right, right, correctly, Which is the point
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: that I made early in the show about if the
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: guy ends up being worthy of the fourth pick, no
- 1:24:12Speaker 5: one's gonna say he wasn't worth.
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: The fourth pay Mike in Groveland was wondering what you
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: thought about ever adding additional offseason in season content. Love
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: to see YouTube shows like From the Jungle out of
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: Sincy and in the Current from Tampa. Other teams also
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: have that kind of in house hard knock style shows
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: great look behind the scenes and way to get to
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: know players and coaches. Well, Mike, I got news for you.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: You're gonna like what we have in store. We're gonna
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: have some cool stuff. It's gonna be coming out after
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: the draft and uh another episode, uh before training camp.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: So we're gonna have stuff like that. If you like that,
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: you're gonna love what we're gonna do this season. So
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: it's a good email. I don't know if it was
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: a plant, but.
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: Probably could be.
- 1:25:01Speaker 9: Did you send that in.
- 1:25:06Speaker 10: The meantime if you need some off season content. The
- 1:25:08Speaker 10: two thousand and four podcasts, all four episodes, are now available.
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: To Yes Yes Good Stuffs The Sound Odyssey with Mike
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: Dussau narrating lots of great interviews. Corey Dillon, who you
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: know you don't get to hear from a lot was
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: a a big It's featured in it. Charlie Weiss, Scott Pioli,
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: who else do we have? Dionne branch Romeo Romeo Crenell's
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: in it, Paul Ivan Fears, Paul Parillo, Thanks Matt, A
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: lot of a lot of good.
- 1:25:42Speaker 10: I think Paul has some of the greatest stories in
- 1:25:44Speaker 10: the podcast.
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: To be honest, I'm a good storytelling sure, sure the
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: way you tell the story.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: Jeremiah writes in do you think this was an arranged
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: marriage with McDaniels and Vaibel, even after Rabel just said
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: he's been talking to mcdaniels's Cleveland, or it's this scenario
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: just too perfect for the craft that they had to
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: be involved in bringing back McDaniels.
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: So it's an hour and a half. It's in anything
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: negative that stood out to me. Yeah, Like the question
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: was about Josh in his life, that was the first question.
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: I think it was Karen. I think it was Miss Karen,
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: you know, and Mike's I'm extremely proud of the staff
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: we put together. Difficult to get everyone that you want,
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: you know, the other teams want to hold onto their
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: talented coaches. I'm paraphrasing. I would say, having had numerous
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: communications with Josh, we had numerous conversations in the end
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: that we felt like it was the best fit for
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: our offense. I'm sorry, I just think that felt a
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: little too convenient to me. I'm not saying that this
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: was an arranged marriage. Maybe that's too far the other way,
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: but I just can't imagine this was a number one
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: top of the line choice that was nobody else, Like
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: I know, Greg Benard's taking his victory lap. I'm sure
- 1:27:01Speaker 5: because he, you know, had the story like three or
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: four weeks ago about how this was the way it was,
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: and I just felt like that was a little too
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: convenient for me.
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't know, like other than getting
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: Ben Johnson as the head coach, you know, and that
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: would be your head coach slash offensive coordinator. Like, I
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: think Josh is as good a pick as anyone that
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: was out there, right, I mean we'll see, Yeah, of
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: course we'll see.
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: I wanted something different, but who I gave you a
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: list of many, Nick Kayley, I can't think of the
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: guy Dave Ragone, Grant Yuzinsky, the guy I think we
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: did talk to. I think that that that somebody from
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: that tree I would have liked to have seen with
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: a different offense. Now. I love Josh. I think he's
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: a perfectly good offensive coordinator. I think that the floor
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: is high with Josh. I think you'll have a well
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: coordinated offense. I'm not sure it'll be as good as
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: it could be. Now, the risk would be doing it
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: my way opens up the possibility of the guy's just
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: not ready and he's just not that talented, and he
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: was riding on Sean mcvay's coketails. Yeah he's not it.
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: Nick Cayley might fail spectacularly.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: He's never done it, so maybe higher ceiling, but it
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: could also be a lower floor.
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: Correct, Yeah, correct, So that's where you know, you have
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: to sort of wait and see. And I'm you know,
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: I know that I have the reputation and well earned
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: of being stubborn when Nick Cayley goes to Houston, and
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: if it doesn't work, I'm not going to sit here
- 1:28:44Speaker 5: and say, well, it would have worked in New England,
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: which is what Patriots fans do. It would have been
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: different if he had come here. No, he failed, and
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: I'll say it.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: Denver Omelet writes in interesting Name. Last Thursday, listener wrote
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: in saying how the newsletter his name is Bland, Well,
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: actually the emails about how the whole show's name is
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: blan right filtered. Frankly, I agree the name should have
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: as much bizaz as the show itself does, so I'm
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: suggesting a new name. I present Patriots Unfiltered Weekly, a
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: Patriots update brought to you by Patriots Dot com editor
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: Paul Parello and producer Mike do So. Now that's a
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: bit of a mouthful, so for short, we can call
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: it as PUPU brought to you by PP and the
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: Deuce PP in the Deuce.
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: Stay tuned for some some advertisement involving PP in the Duce. Okay,
- 1:29:38Speaker 5: you might get some of that coming your way soon.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: All right, another suggestion, have you guys ever thought of
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: putting the newsletter in print and sending it out to listeners,
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: almost like an old school magazine. I don't think any
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: team has ever had their own dedicated magazine each week.
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: I think he's being that's why I laugh. Yeah, that's funny.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: You guys could even put a photo of the week
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: for each game with a fretism as the title, even though,
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: uh it's some some website articles thicking it up bad Kitty. Yeah,
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: I think he's being about bad Kitty sarcastic.
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: When we lost to the Bengals, that was a bad
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: one and it was like a cartoon.
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: But the background so every week I would have to
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: do the headline for the cover.
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: He wouldn't have to. He just would refuse to use
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: any suggestions that Andy and I blogne you used a
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: couple of Andy's. You never he never used my weren't great,
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: I never really I never hit a home run with that.
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: I have to admit so I can. Okay, I admit
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: my shortcomings. They were better than bad Kitty, though.
- 1:30:39Speaker 9: Bad Kitty.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: You knew about bad Kiddy. That's a good one. We
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: lost to the Bengals.
- 1:30:49Speaker 9: I'd have to see the photos because.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: We were playing the benk wasn't even a photo.
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: It was like the logo of the like the Bengal white.
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: It was like almost like it was walking across the
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: cover and just said bad kitty.
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: And I was like, you know, a bad kitty, bad
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: kitty because I was mad because they beat us.
- 1:31:08Speaker 9: I think there's nothing wrong with that because the.
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: Bengals are a cat, right, So you get it.
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: Yeah, we all got it. It just wasn't good. You
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: like it, like ready with Willing and Rabel, that's good.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: You like that that?
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: Absolutely, we were the first ones to use.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: That, were we? Absolutely? Okay? That was after which game
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: I don't remember. Yeah, he had a big sack or
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: something like that.
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: I'm sure he had. I think might have been one
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: of his touchdown days too. He might have had a
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: sack and a touchdown or something.
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: Yeah, ready willing and rabel I believe that was an
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: Andy Hart original. See, I'm willing to give out the
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: credit when it's when it's due. Bad Kitty, not to
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: It was a bad cover, Bad Kitty, bad cover. It
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: was panned, and a lot of yours were good. Yeah,
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: it was globally panned. Like they used to Mark Capello.
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: I know, you know. Mark used to often hit up
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: Freddy on the bus. Yeah, what do we got, Freddie, Freddy,
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: what do we got? Yeah, you know, and he would
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: he would have always started thinking about it, would always opine.
- 1:32:17Speaker 9: Yeah, oh I'm sure.
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: Tim from our friends at Duncan Uh, very excited for
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: the new year and was curious if Rob Gronkowski is
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: eligible for the Patriots Hall of Fame this year. Just
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: got my season ticket invoice, which for me is the
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: start of the new season. He is not eligible, but
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: it is not. Julian Edelman is his first year eligible.
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: So the new people that are eligible, well, he's not new.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: But we didn't get to nominate him next last year
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: because Brady. It was all Brady was vinitari, so vinitary
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: in class. Yeah, those two guys are you know, they
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: could possibly be nominated.
- 1:33:01Speaker 5: Logan Mankins has been nominated, Wes Welker, So there's a
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: lot of a lot of good options.
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: It's going to be an interesting So Paul and I
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: are on that committee. We just got the thing where
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: we're going to have our meeting in April or April, yeah,
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: before our show, so we can I think it's at
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: ten third. It is in the morning of a show,
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: so we can, assuming that it doesn't go into twelve,
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: we can come over here and talk about what we said.
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: We're not allowed to talk about what anyone else said,
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: but if we wish, we can talk about what we said.
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: So we can give our thoughts and opinions, right, but
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: don't share the opinions that other people may because it's
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: supposed to be a safe space yep, which I say,
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: if you say something stupid, you should be exposed.
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: But you know, like to me, the big debate is
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: going to be Welker Edelman, right.
- 1:33:53Speaker 9: It'd be funny to see Edelman get in first.
- 1:33:55Speaker 5: Well, Welker's not getting in, but I think he might.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: Because if you can't even get him.
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: On the I can't even get him on the ballot
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: because he dropped a pass.
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: Which is not fair. But if you look at the stats,
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: Welker wins. But if you look at it from this
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: is a team hall of Fame and who had the
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: bigger impact on the team, I think Edelman wins.
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:34:17Speaker 9: Edelman's playoff resume.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: Yeah, who had the bigger impact on the New England Patriots?
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: Welker's playoff resume?
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: I know, but it didn't ultimately end up the way.
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: That's not the way it should be judged.
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: But it's I'm not saying it should have shouldn't be,
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: But I'm just saying, if you're judging in that way,
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: who had the bigger impact on the New England Patriots?
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: Isn't it at all?
- 1:34:34Speaker 5: So why Logan Mankins gets on the ballot and Welker doesn't.
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: Logan Mankins is never part of any winning No. I'm
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: just saying, if it's between the two, if we're going
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: on by but he can, he can get on the ballot.
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: I'm just saying, if the argument, if the arguments between
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: Welker and Edelman, there's two ways of looking.
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: I would think that Edelman is going to get in first.
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: I think he didn't drop a key pass he did,
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: but no one everyone wants to talk about it.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think he dropped that.
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: He dropped a lot of passes in big games. They
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: don't they don't talk about those because they won a
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: Super Bowl anyway.
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: But he also had key catches and they ended up.
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: Winning touchdown in the undefeated Super Bowl.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: I know. I listen, you know, I get it.
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: We just completely gloss over.
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: Listen. They both should get in, they both should get correct.
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: The question is if they're up against each other.
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: I would go Welker first. I would say that. I'm
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: in the vast minority. I think everybody else would go
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: Edelman from He's got a better personality. That's what works forget.
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: You don't have to be sarcastic. But I think that's
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: a big part of it. That and he didn't drop
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: a pass that everybody talks about.
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: Not fair, not fair.
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: It's like, I know, you think I'm being sarcastic.
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: I think it's ridiculous. I think I've known for one.
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: Play it's not fair.
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: It's not like that was like the Jackie Smith drop
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: in the end zone for for Dallas that year where
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: it hit him in the chest or like the Mark
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: Andrews two point conversion. Right, It wasn't a routine.
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: Play like that. No, he had to twist a little bit.
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: Yeap, And that's all anybody else wants to talk about that.
- 1:36:11Speaker 9: Giselle's sound clip will live on forever.
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: Correct. Blame her much like everything else, Yoko, blame her
- 1:36:21Speaker 5: for everything. Thanks Yoko.
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: Well, I mean, when you know when people will look.
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: At there, that's quite a little display case.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Nobody knows what you're talking about.
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: On one of my shows radio, they just had the
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: waken one to eighty people.
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: I have to talk to them today see email report.
- 1:36:41Speaker 9: So he passed exactly. You can tell them that.
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: So our report again by Mike Reese saying Drake May
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: was out in the freezing cold working out in Foxborough.
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: I'm not of the mind of equating this to a
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: historic season coming from May, but I think that him
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: doing that is setting a great tone for the US
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: season in a great way to lead by example for
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: the rest of the team. Really excited for his development
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: as a leader of the team as much as I
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: am for the development of his game. Okay, I like that.
- 1:37:14Speaker 9: I mean I must have missed that. Was he like
- 1:37:16Speaker 9: actually outside or he's just in fox I think he was.
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: In he's in Foxborough, but I'm not familiar with what
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: he's talking about.
- 1:37:23Speaker 9: Don't know fields to actually playing in right now.
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: You can't be on a field. They're all snow covered, right,
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: I'm just gonna say this.
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: When he didn't come back for the Rabel press conference,
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: Yeah it was no big deal, which I agree with.
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: It's no big deal.
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: Was with your guy?
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: Yeah, correct, But I'm saying the fans, no, it.
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: Wasn't a big deal.
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: Crucified Felger first.
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: Yes, that's correct.
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: So if it's not a big deal, him being in
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: Foxborough can't then be a big deal. Like it's a
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: sign of leadership.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: Oh, it's different than being at a press cot.
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: He's not leading anybody.
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: He could be working working.
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: Out wherever he works out is irrelevant, right.
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: No, but he could work out anywhere. But he's here
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: in a freezing cold part.
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: Right, And that doesn't mean anything. If it didn't mean
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: anything to you, that.
- 1:38:14Speaker 17: To me.
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: If it's a symbolic gesture, then you got to treat
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: them symbolically equal.
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: I like Drake May really because you can't tell by
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: the way you started this show.
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: I liked him, like I.
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: Don't want him being too comfortable on a podcast.
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: I'm a little well because I'm worried about him. I'm
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: trying to protect him.
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: You're worried about him, like you think he's doing something
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: protected trying to he just needs offensive linemen to protect. So,
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: just to be clear, this stuff doesn't it doesn't read
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: with me. I'm very concerned.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: You don't think guy should work out them? Didn't It
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: didn't bug me.
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: Don't be you know, don't like the weight room should be.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: Don't be you don't even need a weight room.
- 1:38:53Speaker 5: Don't don't be like you're going to be andy like, yes,
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: yes it did radio. It didn't bug me at all
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: that he wasn't at the Rabel press conference. I'm very consistent. No,
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: much like this does not cause me to do handstands
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: that he supposedly is in Fox.
- 1:39:09Speaker 9: This makes it seem like he's set up a weight
- 1:39:11Speaker 9: room like literally outdoors, when it's I don't even remember.
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: I don't even know what he's well, what what what
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: Mike was actually trying to put I don't want to,
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: I don't want it doesn't matter to me that he's
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: I know he's working out.
- 1:39:24Speaker 9: It doesn't matter between Foxborough.
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: Well, there's a facility in Foxborough. Brian McDonough is one
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: of the assistants that he runs, and it's like a
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: whole workout place. It's got a hockey arena, it's got
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: you know, And I know a lot of the guys
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: in the off season work out.
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: There, right, and that's great and if that's where they
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: could be where he was, but that's where he chooses
- 1:39:45Speaker 5: to work out. I don't have any issue with that.
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: It just doesn't register as like a positive to me,
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: Like unless he's not working out at all and he
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: has to come to Foxboro to work out, I don't
- 1:39:54Speaker 5: believe that. I believe these guys are all working out religiously.
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: So it doesn't matter to me that he's working well.
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: Although you just criticized he can't have any conversations with
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: the he cold criticized Tom when he stopped coming here
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: for the offseason.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: Yes, for teamwork.
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: If Drake May is not here on April seventh, that
- 1:40:11Speaker 5: will bother, that will be a problem. Yes, I will
- 1:40:13Speaker 5: be consistent.
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's a good thing. The
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: closer he is to hear the better.
- 1:40:17Speaker 5: I think that the fact that he's working out but
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: he can't have any interaction with them, No, he can't.
- 1:40:22Speaker 5: He's not allowed. That's why it doesn't matter to me.
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: If he was, if he could be here and be
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: like with Josh watching film, that would happen, That to
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: me would be that's a strong sign of leadership and commitment.
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: He can't do that.
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: It's illegal, right, it's against the rules. Correct, Curtis and
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: Saint Louis. Let's just say best case scenario. T Higgins
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: hits free agency and the Patriots sign him. Ronnie Stanley
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: hits free agency and the Patriots get him as well. Okay,
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: how would you guys feel about the Patriots moving up
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: in the draft to ensure they get Carter? And it's
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: after everyone wants to move down, the Patriots move up
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: and get that blue chip guy that or say they're
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: able to move down to say nine, they trade with
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: the Saints. They swap first round picks and grab New
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: Orleans twenty twenty five second in twenty twenty six second
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: with a ninth overall pick, the Patriots draft Ashton genty Oh.
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: I don't like that, No, but the first scenario is
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: not a bad one. You've got two guys now in
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: free agency that are absolute needs. So now, but you
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: can afford to like.
- 1:41:30Speaker 5: You haven't solved your left tackle problem.
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: No, you have.
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: That's a thirty injured you know, thirty some odd injury prone.
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: You still need another tackle a and probably need someone
- 1:41:40Speaker 5: for the future. But I like the yeah, I like
- 1:41:43Speaker 5: the yeah. I mean the idea of moving up to
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: get abdul Catter after filling two major needs. You could
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: sell me on that. Yeah, I like it, But I
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: don't like the idea of trading down for a running back. Yep,
- 1:41:55Speaker 5: that's just my hang up with running backs.
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: Brandon wants to weigh in on our sign My Seinfeldt
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: take correction to the take Fred. They're not all annoying.
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: They're all idiots in their own way, geniuses in something.
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: Kramer networking, Kramer networking. George setting low standards as to
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: not be disappointed. Elaine was probably the overall smartest and
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: most well rounded, and Jerry, being a marginal eighties comedian
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: and never deviating, also was the best with money because
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: he made more money. I don't not a well written email.
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: Sorry, why does well, I don't want to over analyze
- 1:42:43Speaker 5: a funny A funny.
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: Take Jake and Melbourne. Now that Higgins seems to be
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: off the board, well he is unless you want to
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: pay up. A report came out about Courtland Sutton looking
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: for a new contract. Any interest in training for him
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: and giving him some good money for a couple of
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: years and have him as a bridge receiver, much better
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: option than Cup, but would obviously cost a bit more
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: in a trade, a lot more.
- 1:43:09Speaker 5: Yeah, Sutton, and he's also injury prone too, Like they
- 1:43:13Speaker 5: both both of those guys have durability issues. I like
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: the idea of Cup as a mentor not as not
- 1:43:20Speaker 5: as like the solution.
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: I think at this stage of his career, he's probably
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: not going to come in and have a dramatic on
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: field impact in your wide receivers, but I think he
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: could have a dramatic impact on the room itself. Did
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: you see those comments. I know a lot of people
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: have been talking about the Andrew Whitworth comments from the
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: Super Bowl, Like he just talked about Cooper Cup like
- 1:43:40Speaker 5: he's a special, special, special guy. I think they need
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: someone like that in that room.
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I worry about taking the word of
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: someone who wears those hoodies like Andrew Whitworth wears He's
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: got those Paul hoodies all the time.
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: That's where my hoodie, you know.
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: So like I just you know, it's like grown men
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: to wear the baseball cap backwards. I just like, I
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: can't take you, seriously, not into it. Like college frat
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: should be the the line where you stop after that,
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: you stop wearing your.
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: As the only one even remotely young in this room.
- 1:44:19Speaker 9: Well, there's a funny, I would say, women like when
- 1:44:24Speaker 9: men wear backwards hats. Really yeah, why I was told
- 1:44:28Speaker 9: I don't know, I wish it.
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: Just out of college that a woman told me you
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: should we have backwards more often. And I was like,
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: still a baseball player at that time.
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: College is okay, I know, but I was like, no,
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: but what is it? You got to explain this? What
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: is it appealing about wearing your cap for a woman
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: you see their eyes better.
- 1:44:49Speaker 9: I can't place it. It's kind of what it.
- 1:44:53Speaker 10: Symbolizes, he's a bad boy and ladies love that.
- 1:44:55Speaker 9: Maybe it's a bad way, maybe it's youthful.
- 1:44:57Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:44:58Speaker 9: Just it's like the true definition.
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: Of like.
- 1:45:01Speaker 9: I don't know what it is, but it is?
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: What about you? What do you think I love backwards
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: town on an older man?
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not she's not interested in.
- 1:45:10Speaker 9: My name's not Jordan's. But age appropriate? Yeah, yeah, age appropriate.
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: I'm with it, Okay, I don't. I don't like it.
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: I don't like it.
- 1:45:21Speaker 10: I'm thirty six, frend Should I wear backwards hat?
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: No?
- 1:45:24Speaker 5: Okay?
- 1:45:25Speaker 10: Now Alex would look good with the backwards hat.
- 1:45:26Speaker 9: On, though, Yeah?
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: Do you?
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: The only time you should wear a backwards hat is
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: when you've got your sniper rifle out, then you turn
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: your cat backwards.
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: Do you wear hats backwards?
- 1:45:37Speaker 10: When I wear a hat?
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: I do?
- 1:45:38Speaker 9: Do you when you wear the Yeah? The broke covers
- 1:45:42Speaker 9: your eyes, that's what it's for. Yeah, fair enough, you know,
- 1:45:47Speaker 9: fair enough?
- 1:45:48Speaker 10: Especially more once I heard that women like backwards hat
- 1:45:51Speaker 10: something men.
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: So I didn't just make that up right, Yeah, that's
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: a thing.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: So what if I wore my pants backwards? Would that
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: be appealing?
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: Then you'd being criss cross?
- 1:45:59Speaker 2: Okay?
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: To make you jump jump right?
- 1:46:01Speaker 9: I think that people just might think you have like
- 1:46:03Speaker 9: dementia or something.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: To my show.
- 1:46:07Speaker 9: Wow, you really went there, I have If you're not
- 1:46:09Speaker 9: putting your pants on the right way.
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: A couple of years ago, I came to work and
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: realized my underwear was on backwards. That happened, Oh, that happens.
- 1:46:17Speaker 9: Yeah, I've done that with done, I've done that with
- 1:46:19Speaker 9: legs alone there recently actually leggings. Yeah, but leggings are hard.
- 1:46:23Speaker 9: It's not like there's a zipper to go in there.
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: Not backwards, inside out, inside out.
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't realize it until I got to tell you.
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: Well, I realized that when I was at the bathroom
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: and I was like, I can't get in there. Do
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: what's closed? What's going on here? What happened?
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: Doors closed? Half backwards thing? That That was definitely a
- 1:46:45Speaker 5: flashback to like ninety two for me. When you just
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: said that, that's I never got it.
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: Maybe it has to do with like.
- 1:46:54Speaker 9: A backwards hat. You're probably doing something like labor or like.
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: Up for fun that.
- 1:47:01Speaker 5: Too, So that's right then, like Larry, you're looking for
- 1:47:04Speaker 5: like you know, tough guys.
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: Looking for masculinity, looking for a good time.
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: I don't know, want someone that can take care of me.
- 1:47:10Speaker 10: I don't have admitted it's all.
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: We all know.
- 1:47:12Speaker 9: Well, if they can do manual labor, they can probably
- 1:47:14Speaker 9: take it.
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: But no matter what the subject, it always gets back
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: to Seinfeld. Remember the episode with George, he was the
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: bad guy.
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeah, nothing but trouble right, he takes the gum.
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: Right, let's see Claire, Hello, Marien, Hello everyone, Hello. May
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: I take the opportunity of an off season time to
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: send a quick note of thank you to all at
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: PU My Patriots podcast, A Claire Perspective was four years
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: old on Sunday, and it wouldn't have happened if there
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: were if it were for you all being guests and
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: also being so supportive. So a huge shout out and
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: thank you anniversary episode is out today on most of
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: the podcast platforms Andy Hart even graciously played the role
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: of my assistant. So that's great.
- 1:48:00Speaker 9: Four years, like all seriousness, is really impressive to be
- 1:48:03Speaker 9: that consistent, because.
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: Even though I was special guest number one oh one,
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: nothing special about that at all. Greece I think was
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: one hundred. I mean, if you're into that sort of.
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: Prestigious, right uh. Tony writes in Paul Spitting Truth again,
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: the amount of people who still hate on Welker, say
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: he's a loser, say he's not deserving the Hall drives
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: me nuts. Tom missed the throw, plain and simple. Could
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: West have caught it? Yes, most of the time he
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: makes that catch. I would implore anyone who says Edelman
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: is superior to Welker to actually go back and watch
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: Welker's game. Is Dan Connolly a better guard than Mankins
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: because he won a ring? Is Andy Hart better than
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: Deuce because he won a ring? Get with it, people, Yes, yeah,
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: different reason. Get with it. People also count me in
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: on Cup but out on Godwin. For wide receiver. Godwin
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: coming off off his second major knee injury at twenty nine,
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: going on thirty, and almost all players coming back from
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: an achilles or acl say they aren't themselves into year two.
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: It's like a dislocated ankle.
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: Oh Godwin, I don't know.
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: Maybe I'm not interested in paying big for an aging
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: guy with injury history who may not contribute much until
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: halfway through year two of his contrenty.
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm a little worried about Godwin's durability, but he
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: I mean, if assuming that, assuming that t. Higgins is
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: off the table, I mean I'd have to give it
- 1:49:32Speaker 5: some thought. What do you think of? Excuse me? About
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: Steph Diggs. I'm kind of out on that at this stage.
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: I think he's sort of on the back nine. But
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: could you talk yourself into I could. Yeah, its like
- 1:49:45Speaker 5: a one year deal.
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: I guess I think he's one.
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: I think they need to find some I think he's one.
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: Of those guys that from right from the jump, he
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: can contribute, Like you won't have to worry about that,
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:49:58Speaker 9: Like you said, the one year, Yeah, and he'd be
- 1:50:01Speaker 9: anything longer than that.
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: You just and you bring him back to that first
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: day that he was with Josh Allen. You say, it's
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: no different. You're gonna be with a guy who can
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: make plays.
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: Who's the guy behind Zoe there with the hat on? Oh,
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: that's Bledsoe, Pete Carroll.
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: That's the offensive line.
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: Jeff DAVIDSONEF Davidson, good call, Freddy, Yeah, yeah, yeah, good job.
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: I was testing you. Sure, I don't know what we're
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: talking about.
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: They don't, Oh from Wisconsin. So do you all think
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: that the bias against Welker is more due to that
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: pass or due to the fact that Bill clearly hated
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: him at the end.
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: I think it's the drop.
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: If he didn't drop the way he left for Denver. No, okay, no,
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: the way he.
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: Left to Denver. They didn't want him, but they tried
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: to kick him out two years earlier.
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: Weren't they bad mouthing him on the way out the door.
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: The Patriots?
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, yeah, So fans would hear that and like, oh,
- 1:50:51Speaker 2: it's right, we don't like him.
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: No, No, I don't think that's why they don't like
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: You don't think they don't If he caught that pass,
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: you think that they would worry about what Bill said
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: to him on.
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: The way out. No, probably not.
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: Do they hate ty Law? No, they bad mouthed him
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: on the way out.
- 1:51:06Speaker 2: But they did. But he's back.
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I understand this. This is my point. He didn't
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: have a key drop in the Super Bowl to unfortunately
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: be remembered by.
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Somebody was telling me on our pr staff that he's
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: watched that play over and over with Welker, you know,
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: from and people have watched it and told him this
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: that on the on when Brady's looking out in the field,
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: Gronk is wide open, but all of a sudden, on
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: the corner of his eye, he sees the safety fall
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: down where Welker was, and he changed his mind and
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: kind of threw off balance and so the pass was
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: a little bit behind Welker because of that.
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: And in Tom's defense, I've heard people opine and I
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: don't know. I haven't heard Tom say this, but he
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: kind of threw it where he threw it on purpose, like, yeah,
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: try to set him down and avoid the hit, right,
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: because it was coverage, he should have caught the pass.
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: I am not here to tell you that it's a
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: pass that he shouldn't have caught. He should have caught it.
- 1:52:12Speaker 5: It wasn't a great throw, but he should have caught it.
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: But I just like, I don't understand why you get
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: so much for so many plays that he made for
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: so many years. Why that's the only thing that anybody remembers.
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: That's the part of it. I don't get. Yeah, No,
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: will Mark Andrews be persona non grada now Baltimore. I'm
- 1:52:32Speaker 5: gonna guess no. Now, maybe they will. Maybe maybe this
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: is that's the end of his career and people will
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: always remember him for dropping that two point conversion. I
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: don't think that will happen, though.
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: Rick and Riverside, Rhode Island Evans Analysis is what drew
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: me to this podcast. And keeps me here. I love
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: how we can talk about schemes and break things down
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: in Layman's terms. I'm not sure he does that. Having
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: said that, I do agree Barth may carry him a bit.
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: Wow, this is unbelieved. This is the worst show ever in.
- 1:53:04Speaker 2: This is going to leave a mark.
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: Yes, mainly because we're going to make sure it does this.
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: You'll appreciate this one, Paul. So will Carol Upstairs Tyler
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: and Georgia writes in I like the idea of sending
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: out a physical newsletter, but only if you can ensure
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: I get it one to two weeks after it originally
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: comes out.
- 1:53:25Speaker 5: Poor Carol.
- 1:53:26Speaker 2: That was a running joke because back in the day
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: we would sell Patriots Football weekly on the newstands. But
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: also you could subscribe to it, and so if if
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: you're living in Idaho, good luck getting it before the
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: next game came out.
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: I mean didn't exactly come first class. Yeah, So, so
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: we used to make fun of Carol. Carol Guy and
- 1:53:46Speaker 5: des Moin didn't get his pace.
- 1:53:47Speaker 9: So you were just like the people like that, like
- 1:53:49Speaker 9: mailing them individually. It's not like you can send out
- 1:53:52Speaker 9: like a mail truck to hit all the spots.
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: But I mean, well all over the country, you knowing them, well,
- 1:54:01Speaker 2: your subscription price would go way up. We had to
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: make it an affordable subscription price, you know. So so
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: I found out Yeah, no, I found out that the
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: way the US Post Office works and the reason why
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: like magazines like Sports Illustrated get delivered in such a
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: timely manner, it's because of the volume.
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: We our newspaper would be in a sack, like in
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: the back of the truck, like with two other things
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: in it. Yeah, and it would just sit there, whereas
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: Sports Illustrated was, they'd make sure that they got all
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: those out because there were millions of them being being uh, what.
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: The circulation numbers were for the newspaper?
- 1:54:39Speaker 9: What the circulator was asking me and Paul who wants
- 1:54:43Speaker 9: to know?
- 1:54:43Speaker 5: I know what the numbers were?
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: Who wants to know? Right when Parcells was the head coach,
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: believe it or not, it was around forty thousand.
- 1:54:55Speaker 5: But Fred would always answer that question, who's asking?
- 1:54:57Speaker 9: And where's the furthest you guys would send it, oh
- 1:54:59Speaker 9: over where.
- 1:55:03Speaker 17: Let's see, I don't know, probably Japan maybe, wow, yeah, Chiba, Chiba, yeah,
- 1:55:10Speaker 17: Jason and Chiba.
- 1:55:11Speaker 5: Yeah, he always he was a longtime subscriber. I think, yep,
- 1:55:15Speaker 5: one of our original callers and emailers too.
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: Let's see what else we got times running out will
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: He's clarifying something we talked about earlier. This is how
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: the Saints got Camara picked from San Francisco. Oh okay,
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: oh good number sixty seven San Francisco to New Orleans.
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: San Francisco traded a third round selection sixty seventh to
- 1:55:39Speaker 2: New Orleans in exchange for New Orleans seventh round selection
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: and their twoenty eighteen second round selection.
- 1:55:46Speaker 5: So it really was not germane to the conversation.
- 1:55:48Speaker 2: No, but so I knew there had to be some
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: trade involved something.
- 1:55:53Speaker 5: Yeah. And like I said at the time when we
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: read that email, I know that wasn't the point. The
- 1:55:57Speaker 5: point of the email was the quarterbacks weren't you know, so,
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: you know, considered to be the top of the possible.
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: The bigger point, the bigger point I think we all
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: agree on, is that somebody needs to want them.
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: Somebody needs to want them, and you just don't know
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: who's gonna end, you know, Like, so you just you
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: got to trust in your system, You got to trust
- 1:56:19Speaker 2: your scouts, you gotta trust the work they did. You
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: got to trust your talent evaluation and.
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: Just go for it.
- 1:56:25Speaker 5: But I don't eliminate the possibility that someone could trade
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: up with the Patriots to get.
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: Right because they trust somebody they believe, you know, just
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: like if you're the Giants, whether it'should Do Sanders or
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: they believed Door Sanders is going to be a great
- 1:56:40Speaker 2: quarterback of this league and we're willing to go up.
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: I don't think the Giants have any option right now.
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: They don't have any quot so what have I'm sure
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: they're they can go to the veteran route, I know,
- 1:56:49Speaker 5: But what if they don't get one? Yeah, right now,
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: my guess is they will because they're going to be
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: able to promise something that most teams aren't going to
- 1:56:57Speaker 5: one is New York. No, they're going to be able
- 1:56:59Speaker 5: to promise playing time.
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: Well, like Sam Darnold could sign with the Giants and
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: almost be assured of being the starter, whereas if he
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: signs with somebody else, well we'll see how it goes.
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: We get JJ McCarthy and you and if McCarthy beat
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: you out and he's gonna play yep.
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: Finally, email josh In Atlanta. I'm loving Alex's nineteen fifties
- 1:57:21Speaker 2: librarian glasses. All she needs, like, yeah, they they're blue
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: light glasses. You know they're not real.
- 1:57:28Speaker 9: I'm getting called out.
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: Do you really not know who is? That hurts me
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: a little bit. All she needs is a swing dress
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: and an overabundance of pink lipstick to complete the look.
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: All jokes aside. I love seeing Alex on the Pod
- 1:57:41Speaker 2: in the off season, even if she is five months later.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: On my Emailer of the Week T shirt, I have
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: a feeling I'll be waiting for that PU T shirt
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: on my deathbed. We're having an inventory issue, which I
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: don't mind as long as I can wear it for
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: my open casket wake. So we run out of T shirts.
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: I thought the big sizes.
- 1:58:01Speaker 9: Oh that's what Matt said. Is that a lot of
- 1:58:03Speaker 9: our Email or the Week winners want a specific size
- 1:58:06Speaker 9: that we've run out of inventory.
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: God, the bid you have a T shirt that fits you?
- 1:58:10Speaker 9: We gotta we gotta work on revamping left.
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: Double xls were this okay?
- 1:58:20Speaker 9: So send those emails in because you have a great
- 1:58:25Speaker 9: chance of getting So have we ordered new T shirts?
- 1:58:28Speaker 9: This is a song and dance we every time we talk.
- 1:58:31Speaker 2: About have we ordered new T shirts? Is my question.
- 1:58:34Speaker 10: I've been told no, not until the smalls are gone.
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: No, who said that? Who's who? Ye?
- 1:58:41Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, my manager said that.
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: Your manager said that. Who's your manager?
- 1:58:47Speaker 5: These days?
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: A show said that? Well that's said, okay, but that's crazy. No,
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: we need to order more. As a matter of fact,
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: I remember telling Matise and make sure they're of higher
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: quality because I don't want them shrinking after one.
- 1:59:04Speaker 9: W Yeah, I think we should get some quarter zips
- 1:59:09Speaker 9: to the zippers can be really long, like down to
- 1:59:12Speaker 9: your belly button.
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: Well, then they're not quarter.
- 1:59:14Speaker 9: No, if it's just for you, I'm trying to start with,
- 1:59:19Speaker 9: it's still on your side.
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: We just start with getting.
- 1:59:24Speaker 5: Don't think they've gone on notice just because they've gone
- 1:59:26Speaker 5: on the dress.
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: We're gonna order some T shirts, all right. That's gonna
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: that's it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered uh News
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: coming out of the Combine. We're gonna get all that
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: on patriots dot com and catch twenty social media accounts.

- 2:00:50Speaker 18: I'm surprised an old man over here. I thought maybe
