Transcript
- 0:16Speaker 1: Bla blah, Yo, what's up.
- 0:19Speaker 2: My name is Brendan Murphy. I sing in Counterparts and
- 0:22Speaker 2: also End, but I'm here for Counterparts today. Our new EP,
- 0:25Speaker 2: Haven't Let Them Die has been out for a couple
- 0:27Speaker 2: of months.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It rocks. Go listen to it.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Fantastic. But that's all the edge you mean.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Brother, you doing like perfect good?
- 0:37Speaker 3: I'm good?
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, chilling, you know.
- 0:39Speaker 4: So, as you said, wry Counterparts dropped the surprise EP
- 0:43Speaker 4: had to Let Them Die last November.
- 0:45Speaker 3: So how was the response to it?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Great? Yeah?
- 0:48Speaker 2: I mean, like I definitely had a feeling that it
- 0:51Speaker 2: was gonna that people were going to be stoked on it.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I didn't think people were going to be this stoked
- 0:57Speaker 2: on it, So that's always that's always a plus, you know.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I try to I try to not have my hopes
- 1:04Speaker 2: too high with anything I kind of go in with, Like,
- 1:07Speaker 2: you know, I try to keep the bar really low,
- 1:09Speaker 2: so I can always kind of be surprised. But yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 2: like the response has been awesome, and I'm I'm so
- 1:16Speaker 2: stoked to play the new songs live like I feel.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I mean, we've been a band for so long and
- 1:23Speaker 2: we've had we have so many records. It's just like
- 1:25Speaker 2: at this point, I'm like, we got to you gotta
- 1:28Speaker 2: do something for us, Like I'm getting sick of playing
- 1:31Speaker 2: songs that are like ten twelve years old. I'm like,
- 1:34Speaker 2: I want to play some fun, heavy stuff live and
- 1:36Speaker 2: just watch people go nuts and hurt each other. So
- 1:40Speaker 2: I'm really stoked to play the EP stuff. I can't wait.
- 1:43Speaker 2: We've only done the two singles like Martyr and Lamb,
- 1:46Speaker 2: we've done them both live once because we've only played
- 1:49Speaker 2: one show since the EP came out. So yeah, starting
- 1:54Speaker 2: this tour, we're doing the whole thing. Yeah, like not
- 1:57Speaker 2: front to back, but like we're doing all six songs
- 2:00Speaker 2: in the set, and I'm stoked.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Oh.
- 2:03Speaker 4: When I read like that it was a surprise ape
- 2:05Speaker 4: my life honestly had images in my head of huge
- 2:08Speaker 4: jumping out from behind a tree and yell a surprise
- 2:10Speaker 4: and into some music.
- 2:12Speaker 3: But it wasn't quite a lot, that wasn't it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's ideally, that's what I would have
- 2:17Speaker 2: wanted to do, you know. I think that that, yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 2: doing that was like that rock that I was so
- 2:23Speaker 2: stoked that everybody was finally down to do it like
- 2:27Speaker 2: I've wanted to do it.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Forever.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And finally I convinced everybody like, yo, it doesn't matter,
- 2:34Speaker 2: Like we don't have to have a pre order. We
- 2:35Speaker 2: don't have to sell this record and make it a
- 2:39Speaker 2: product and do you know and like worry about well,
- 2:42Speaker 2: how many records we sell first week and all this stuff.
- 2:44Speaker 1: It's like we just did a coolipee it rocks.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Just put it out, Just drop the thing out of nowhere,
- 2:51Speaker 2: little surprise. It's kind of cute and it paid off
- 2:54Speaker 2: and everybody that added to it as well. For sure,
- 2:58Speaker 2: I feel like if we would have, you know, because
- 3:01Speaker 2: doing a pre order for like an EP, it's like
- 3:03Speaker 2: it's sixteen minutes of music, like telling somebody like, oh
- 3:07Speaker 2: just wait in three months, like you get to hear
- 3:10Speaker 2: a smoke breaks worth of songs from us, Like that sucks,
- 3:14Speaker 2: you know what I mean? So just dropping it, I
- 3:17Speaker 2: think it got Doing it like that made it get
- 3:20Speaker 2: more attention than it would have got otherwise. So I'm
- 3:23Speaker 2: really stoked on it.
- 3:25Speaker 3: By the sounds that you're doing it that way. Bull
- 3:27Speaker 3: the row raisers might.
- 3:28Speaker 4: But in the modern age, where as you say, like
- 3:30Speaker 4: content is king and social media dictates trends, like wasn't
- 3:34Speaker 4: a risk at all drop of the.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Epel of that.
- 3:37Speaker 1: For sure.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think, like I guess, like I wasn't,
- 3:42Speaker 2: I wasn't terribly concerned that that there was a possibility
- 3:45Speaker 2: of it, of it backfiring, like you know, I don't.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I don't think people.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I don't.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Anybody who likes the band was going to be like what,
- 3:54Speaker 2: like they didn't even tell us like this sucks, you
- 3:57Speaker 2: know what I mean. I think everybody was just kind
- 3:58Speaker 2: of stoked that there was something new and yeah, and
- 4:03Speaker 2: I mean I think that like there's always a chance,
- 4:07Speaker 2: like there's a chance that it just gets lost, you know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: if if you don't kind of dangle the keys in
- 4:12Speaker 2: front of people's face and let be like it's coming soon,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I swear, like one week away, like two days from now,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and like you just drop it, there's a chance that
- 4:20Speaker 2: people can forget about it. And I think maybe people
- 4:25Speaker 2: have it a little bit. But I think that's also
- 4:28Speaker 2: it's mainly because we put the EP out and we're like,
- 4:31Speaker 2: all right, we're going to tour in three months, see you.
- 4:35Speaker 2: So I think if anything, it was that that did it,
- 4:39Speaker 2: not the surprise. So I'm yeah, I'm I'm yeah, I
- 4:43Speaker 2: think when you do something that plays into how like,
- 4:47Speaker 2: you know, short everyone's attention span is at the moment,
- 4:50Speaker 2: I think, yeah, I think it's just the move, like
- 4:53Speaker 2: that's the easiest way to sort of get people. And
- 4:57Speaker 2: so what you know, if you're if you're the hot
- 4:59Speaker 2: topic and you're everyone's talking about it for a month
- 5:04Speaker 2: or a week and then they moved on to something else,
- 5:06Speaker 2: It's like they were going to move on to something
- 5:08Speaker 2: else anyway, regardless of how long you teased it or
- 5:12Speaker 2: how you know anything.
- 5:14Speaker 1: So I think, yeah, I think it definitely worked for sure.
- 5:18Speaker 3: So it was like even a little tensey bit that
- 5:20Speaker 3: much of it was any of it abound a fuck
- 5:22Speaker 3: eat of the system and just sort of going like
- 5:24Speaker 3: we did have to follow trends.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Too, like a little bit for sure.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there there was definitely, uh, just a
- 5:33Speaker 2: like in you know, in counterparts fashion of just like
- 5:35Speaker 2: we you know, we're very much like the like we
- 5:39Speaker 2: don't care, like we do whatever we want sort of thing,
- 5:42Speaker 2: and it's like within reason obviously, like we're not trying
- 5:45Speaker 2: to like actively hurt ourselves and like do the wrong
- 5:48Speaker 2: thing on purpose. It's like no matter how funny it
- 5:51Speaker 2: is at times like I still want to be able
- 5:54Speaker 2: to do this for a living, you know, so you
- 5:56Speaker 2: got to like you got to play ball a little bit.
- 5:58Speaker 2: But yeah, definitely part of it was like, you know,
- 6:03Speaker 2: I don't like I personally, I'm like, I don't care
- 6:06Speaker 2: about like album streams and you know, how many copy
- 6:11Speaker 2: like how many records we sell. I'm like, I'm like,
- 6:13Speaker 2: I don't even think we sound scan records at shows.
- 6:15Speaker 2: It's like we barely even have physical music at shows
- 6:18Speaker 2: cause it's like who's buying it, Like maybe vinyl if
- 6:22Speaker 2: you're a collector, but it's like everyone just streams. So
- 6:26Speaker 2: it's like, oh and what like fifteen hundred streams is
- 6:29Speaker 2: equivalent to one album sale now, And I'm just like
- 6:31Speaker 2: the whole thing is a joke.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm like, who cares? Who cares? All that matters is how.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Many people you can get into a room in a city,
- 6:40Speaker 2: and that's it. So it's like the end of the day,
- 6:43Speaker 2: that's all that matters to me, you know, Like you
- 6:45Speaker 2: see it all the time. There's bands that have millions
- 6:47Speaker 2: of monthly listeners and then they play a show in
- 6:50Speaker 2: New York, let's say, and it's like, oh, it's a
- 6:52Speaker 2: hundred kids, and you know it's like that. I like,
- 6:57Speaker 2: I'm we're not making money from royalties. We make more
- 7:00Speaker 2: from shows. I want the shows to be packed out.
- 7:02Speaker 2: So that's that's my that's my like biggest concern. And
- 7:06Speaker 2: I think that, yeah, doing this like it looks cooler,
- 7:10Speaker 2: you look a bit cooler, you know, being like I
- 7:12Speaker 2: don't care whatever, just take it here.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It is like it's kind of sick. So yeah, it works.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Now, you've been quite a lot saying that.
- 7:21Speaker 4: You say, he pays authentic representation of Cama Pots today.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Can you go right on that post place for sure? Yeah?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I I So what I mean by that is
- 7:33Speaker 2: like it's the most like I guess the the proper
- 7:38Speaker 2: Like what I should have said was, it's the most
- 7:40Speaker 2: like collaborative I think, like like I think for this
- 7:44Speaker 2: record in the past, you know, we've like obviously it's
- 7:49Speaker 2: not like only a couple people have their say as
- 7:53Speaker 2: far as like what the music is or how the
- 7:55Speaker 2: writing goes stuff. Everybody has the you know, if somebody,
- 7:59Speaker 2: if I, if I, or somebody else, if we hate a part,
- 8:02Speaker 2: we just bring it up and we're like this part sucks,
- 8:04Speaker 2: we gotta change it. Like, but with this, I think
- 8:08Speaker 2: I found that everybody in the band was really excited,
- 8:11Speaker 2: more so than they have been doing other records. And
- 8:13Speaker 2: it was just like everybody wanted to write, like everybody
- 8:17Speaker 2: wanted to be in a room together for six seven hours,
- 8:21Speaker 2: like talking about the same twenty second part in a
- 8:25Speaker 2: song and making it better, and everybody was just so involved,
- 8:29Speaker 2: like way more so than any other record we've done.
- 8:33Speaker 2: So it's like, yeah, I think that this is like
- 8:35Speaker 2: a it is the most accurate representation because it's the
- 8:39Speaker 2: truest representation of the band, Like you have elements from
- 8:44Speaker 2: all four of us, plus will, like everyone's working together,
- 8:49Speaker 2: even me, like I normally don't I just do the lyrics,
- 8:52Speaker 2: Like I don't I wait for the music to be
- 8:54Speaker 2: written and I just write lyrics, even for this one,
- 8:57Speaker 2: Like I was in the room coming up with music
- 8:59Speaker 2: ideas for music and breakdowns and you know, oh what
- 9:02Speaker 2: if this part does this, like and I never do that.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I never.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I don't want to ever. I'm like, I'd rather break
- 9:09Speaker 2: my arm, like I'm good, So even you know, because
- 9:14Speaker 2: of that, I think it it's like everybody in the
- 9:17Speaker 2: band feels a lot closer to this release than other ones,
- 9:23Speaker 2: not that we didn't for other ones, but it is just,
- 9:27Speaker 2: you know, it feels like it feels the most like
- 9:31Speaker 2: us because it's like, yeah, we were all there the
- 9:34Speaker 2: whole time doing it, you know, so I think it's
- 9:38Speaker 2: I think it's accurate. Not that you know, it's not
- 9:40Speaker 2: like in the past we wanted to be really heavy
- 9:43Speaker 2: and people were like, don't do that. That wasn't the case,
- 9:46Speaker 2: but it was like, you know, really for this when
- 9:48Speaker 2: we were just like, what do we want to do?
- 9:50Speaker 2: What's fun for us? Heavy stuff like really heavy stuff
- 9:55Speaker 2: for live like blast beats like all that. It's like
- 9:58Speaker 2: what do we like and what do we don't like? Like, okay,
- 10:00Speaker 2: let's just not do any of the stuff that we
- 10:01Speaker 2: don't like anymore. And then we didn't and it paid off.
- 10:07Speaker 4: So yeah, Well, one of the other good things about
- 10:10Speaker 4: EPs Iver albums might deserve isn't many songs on them,
- 10:13Speaker 4: so we can go into him in a bit more detail.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Mate.
- 10:15Speaker 4: So you've only got six on this, so I want
- 10:17Speaker 4: to run through them, just one at the time and
- 10:19Speaker 4: tell us a bit more about the song sort of
- 10:21Speaker 4: musically and how it relates to counterparts sound right before
- 10:25Speaker 4: I guess so the first one is as Left Alive.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that one, I think I.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Personally, I think that as far as like the EP goes,
- 10:37Speaker 2: I think that song is the most counterparts sounding song. Like,
- 10:41Speaker 2: you know, the one thing I've seen people say is
- 10:45Speaker 2: just like, oh, you know, like it's missing that like
- 10:47Speaker 2: melodic element and stuff. And I'm like, what about the
- 10:50Speaker 2: like minute long interlude with the two thousands metalcore talking part,
- 10:56Speaker 2: like clean guitar interlude thing that happens in Martyr, Like
- 11:00Speaker 2: that's counter that's the counterparts part. Like you know, people
- 11:04Speaker 2: being like, oh, the blast beats. It's like we've done
- 11:06Speaker 2: blast beats on every other record, like maybe not for
- 11:10Speaker 2: that long or like you know that apparent, but you know,
- 11:15Speaker 2: they they exist, they're there, and I yeah, I think
- 11:18Speaker 2: Martyr is definitely the closest like that could that song
- 11:21Speaker 2: could have been on Eulogy. Well they all could have,
- 11:23Speaker 2: I guess, but but yeah, that that one is uh
- 11:28Speaker 2: that And we wanted to go with this like that
- 11:30Speaker 2: one as a single just because it's it does have everything.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Like it's like this has everything that any counterparts fan
- 11:37Speaker 2: would want. So this has to be one of the
- 11:40Speaker 2: first singles and it just starts out of nowhere, which
- 11:42Speaker 2: is sick, Like that's a surprise in itself, you know,
- 11:45Speaker 2: So it's like that, yeah, Martyr's very that's that's a
- 11:49Speaker 2: very counterpart song for sure.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Nice. Then you got with Loving Arms Disfigured, and I've
- 11:55Speaker 3: got to say, like, you guys have got some of
- 11:57Speaker 3: the best song titles of they've heard, like discussing guys
- 12:01Speaker 3: into him Like there's there's short sentences, but I say
- 12:04Speaker 3: a lot.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I mean usually it's a yeah, once I'm done lyrics,
- 12:10Speaker 2: like we kind of it's like after I'm done tracking
- 12:12Speaker 2: the song, uh, when it's time for Will to save it,
- 12:16Speaker 2: He's just like what are like what are you calling
- 12:18Speaker 2: this one?
- 12:19Speaker 1: And then we just kind of look at the lyrics
- 12:20Speaker 1: and we're like ah.
- 12:23Speaker 2: And then with with this EP, it was like I
- 12:26Speaker 2: didn't mean to, but it was like, you know, we
- 12:30Speaker 2: had like Heaven let them die and then a martyr
- 12:33Speaker 2: left alive and then uh with like with Loving Arms Disfigured,
- 12:37Speaker 2: and Will's like, are you trying to do like all
- 12:41Speaker 2: four words? Like every song title has four words in it?
- 12:44Speaker 2: Or is that like a thing you're trying to do
- 12:46Speaker 2: or And I'm like, oh no, I wasn't and then
- 12:50Speaker 2: that so then for the other ones, it was just like, Okay,
- 12:53Speaker 2: I guess I just got to go with four words
- 12:55Speaker 2: like you got it, like you know, we did. We
- 12:57Speaker 2: did the opposite with Helen Home. It was like every
- 13:00Speaker 2: song title was just one word, you know. So uh
- 13:05Speaker 2: so yeah, it was like it was kind of a
- 13:07Speaker 2: conscious thing for sure, But yeah, I mean we just
- 13:12Speaker 2: I don't know, I just kind of look at like
- 13:14Speaker 2: I try to find the line in the song that
- 13:16Speaker 2: sort of sums up the theme of the song, and
- 13:19Speaker 2: I think that, yeah, like with you know or at
- 13:22Speaker 2: least sounds the coolest, you know what I mean, So
- 13:25Speaker 2: that's that's usually it too, Like that plays into that
- 13:30Speaker 2: that's that really plays into what the song ends up
- 13:33Speaker 2: being called. Is just like what's the coolest line from
- 13:36Speaker 2: the you know what sounds the hardest? Like with loving arms,
- 13:39Speaker 2: disfigured sounds gross, you know what I mean, Like it
- 13:42Speaker 2: sounds miserable, and it's like and it's like cool, that's
- 13:46Speaker 2: exactly the kind of message I want to like get across.
- 13:48Speaker 2: But and that song too, I mean, as far as
- 13:51Speaker 2: music goes, it's like that's also another it's a very
- 13:54Speaker 2: like counterpart song. I feel like that one could have
- 13:56Speaker 2: been off like tragedy let's say, you know, like it's
- 13:59Speaker 2: got that like chorus vibe to it, and you know
- 14:03Speaker 2: that middle breakdown is super heavy, and it's like it's
- 14:07Speaker 2: very like two thousands, like the vocals match the guitar
- 14:10Speaker 2: chugs and everything. So yeah, that one's that one's a
- 14:14Speaker 2: great one too, for sure.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Move on to to Hear of War.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean to.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Hear of War was especially like the intro thing I
- 14:25Speaker 2: remember that was. Yeah, that was us just being like
- 14:29Speaker 2: just trying to nail like a two thousands like Trustkill,
- 14:31Speaker 2: like you know, like how like just one of those
- 14:35Speaker 2: songs that like starts with a breakdown like My Promise
- 14:38Speaker 2: by It Dice Today or something, or like in Summary
- 14:41Speaker 2: of What I Am by Misery Signals or Dandy Lyon
- 14:45Speaker 2: by Seven Angels, like just something that's it just starts
- 14:48Speaker 2: right off the bat with a breakdown. I think that
- 14:53Speaker 2: one is U I mean like that that one's heavier
- 14:55Speaker 2: for sure. I think I feel like that breakdown at
- 14:57Speaker 2: the end with like the tom build up, I don't
- 15:00Speaker 2: think we've done that too often. So I was really
- 15:02Speaker 2: stoked on on that one, and you know, yeah, just
- 15:06Speaker 2: just a over overall it's just a blasphemous type song.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And I'm yeah, I was. I was really stoked writing
- 15:12Speaker 2: to that one.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Okay. Then we got No Lamb was lost.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean No Lamb was uh that I think
- 15:22Speaker 2: that was the demo. It was like Martyr was was
- 15:27Speaker 2: my favorite demo I think, and then No Lamb. I
- 15:31Speaker 2: didn't really think about it, but then as I was
- 15:33Speaker 2: writing the lyrics and stuff, I was just like it it. Yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 2: it gave me more of like a more of like
- 15:40Speaker 2: a nineties like metalcore vibe, like your Turmoil and stuff
- 15:46Speaker 2: like that. And I and like, and I will say,
- 15:49Speaker 2: like a lot of people have said with the new EP,
- 15:52Speaker 2: either like it sounds like end and I'm like, I'm
- 15:56Speaker 2: like you're just saying that because I'm in End.
- 15:58Speaker 1: But for this, like for No Lamb.
- 16:00Speaker 2: It's like that the guitar part, like the right before
- 16:04Speaker 2: like Heartbeat Gang cannot replace like that little thing. I
- 16:08Speaker 2: was like, Okay, yeah that kind of sounds like for sure,
- 16:11Speaker 2: but I I was, I was so.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Like bummed about it.
- 16:14Speaker 2: But yeah, like that one, I'm just like, yeah, all right,
- 16:19Speaker 2: it's like yeah, that that's that kind of sounds like Pariah.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Yeah you're right, you're right, but yeah, just like a
- 16:25Speaker 2: slower heavy like I love that breakdown. That's my favorite
- 16:29Speaker 2: counterpart song for sure, Like yeah, kind of a whole discography,
- 16:34Speaker 2: that's that's.
- 16:35Speaker 1: The one, lok.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's about both my cats. So that's that's
- 16:42Speaker 2: also a big reason why I love it so much.
- 16:44Speaker 3: You know, can you have the song so Baruto they
- 16:47Speaker 3: have cats?
- 16:49Speaker 2: I don't like that's And that's the thing too, is
- 16:51Speaker 2: like when you read like reading it, it's like I
- 16:53Speaker 2: think the like with my skin, like he was saved
- 16:58Speaker 2: with my skin. She is safe like that. That's the
- 17:00Speaker 2: one part where people could be like, I think this
- 17:02Speaker 2: is about his fucking cats, you know, like cause it's
- 17:05Speaker 2: the guy like the I like, he is safe. She
- 17:08Speaker 2: it's like, you know, my last cat, Kumo as a boy.
- 17:10Speaker 2: My current cat, Corey, it's a girl. So you know,
- 17:14Speaker 2: it's like I think that's the one line where it's like, Okay,
- 17:16Speaker 2: I think this might be about his cats, but uh yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 2: so I love it.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I love playing that one.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I always shouted out to Corey, dedicated to her every night,
- 17:25Speaker 2: So let's go.
- 17:27Speaker 3: And then you got praise. No Archery Intact it's actually
- 17:30Speaker 3: quite hard to say.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's like the one, the one title wise
- 17:36Speaker 2: where I'm just like yeah, but yeah, I mean artery
- 17:40Speaker 2: was Uh. I feel like that one the way it
- 17:43Speaker 2: starts that sounds like old counterparts. That sounds like the
- 17:47Speaker 2: first three Records counterparts, Like we just with that feedback
- 17:50Speaker 2: into the very fast you know, almost like more like
- 17:53Speaker 2: a hardcore part. That was very counterparts, you know, like
- 17:59Speaker 2: that is very like old counterparts, like when we were
- 18:02Speaker 2: really into like have her have Heart and verse and
- 18:04Speaker 2: stuff like that.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Uh.
- 18:06Speaker 2: And then that one that's the weirdest one for me,
- 18:09Speaker 2: that's the one that's I think that's my least favorite
- 18:12Speaker 2: song on the record. I still like it, but it
- 18:15Speaker 2: just goes off the deep end, I feel like with
- 18:18Speaker 2: just like the slam parts and like that weird like
- 18:23Speaker 2: no like that. It's it's like it's one of the
- 18:26Speaker 2: more technical songs on the EP. A lot of them
- 18:29Speaker 2: are just kind of dumb, chuggy breakdown stuff. That one's
- 18:32Speaker 2: a bit techier. I remember I had a hard time
- 18:34Speaker 2: writing lyrics to it because I was like, what the
- 18:36Speaker 2: fuck do I do here? Like what am I supposed
- 18:37Speaker 2: to write over this? It ended up being really cool though.
- 18:42Speaker 2: That ending part with like the you know why I've
- 18:46Speaker 2: remained like I remain part that was really weird and
- 18:49Speaker 2: I kind of did it like as a goof and
- 18:51Speaker 2: then everyone was just down and it just kind of stuck.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I don't know, We'll see.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I mean, they're like a bunch of my friends that
- 19:00Speaker 2: their favorite song on the EP, and I'm like, are
- 19:02Speaker 2: you nuts? Like no lambs on the EP, like exactly,
- 19:08Speaker 2: I'm like, how is praise the coolest? But people like
- 19:12Speaker 2: it's either I feel like it's either people's favorite song
- 19:14Speaker 2: or they're just like yeah, yeah whatever.
- 19:17Speaker 4: So yeah, and you round out the title track Heaven let.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Them Die yep.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Outro Yeah yeah. That one kind of came about. It
- 19:28Speaker 2: was like Jesse Je like we I think we wanted
- 19:32Speaker 2: like an intro. We were going to do an intro,
- 19:36Speaker 2: and then we were talking about it and it was like, well,
- 19:39Speaker 2: we kind of have intros on records, like we have
- 19:41Speaker 2: like love Me and you know, we have like O
- 19:44Speaker 2: seven twenty six like these like little intro things, and
- 19:46Speaker 2: we're like, let's do like an outro.
- 19:48Speaker 1: And that that was a really big thing.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I feel in like the you know, mid late two
- 19:53Speaker 2: thousands was bands would always like end their set with
- 19:56Speaker 2: like an outro. It's like whether they played a breakdown
- 19:59Speaker 2: from another song, like from a song they already played
- 20:02Speaker 2: again just slower or something, and it was like bands
- 20:05Speaker 2: had like an outro and we were like, yeah, let's
- 20:07Speaker 2: do that, and so Jesse had this really creepy little
- 20:12Speaker 2: riff and then we you know, and then I was like,
- 20:16Speaker 2: I that's where I came up with like heaven't let
- 20:21Speaker 2: them die because it was like over that breakdown, like
- 20:24Speaker 2: the pattern, like the two the sky I prayed. I
- 20:27Speaker 2: wrote that, and then I didn't know I was going
- 20:31Speaker 2: to use it for that, and then it kind of
- 20:33Speaker 2: became I was like, oh, whatever, like I really want
- 20:35Speaker 2: to use that line. I'll put it in Martyr and
- 20:39Speaker 2: then you know, and then the outro actually made it
- 20:42Speaker 2: to the EP and it was like, okay, we have
- 20:44Speaker 2: we're actually doing this, so yeah, so I was just
- 20:48Speaker 2: like all right, like bring that back then that it
- 20:51Speaker 2: was supposed to be in this song anyway, So like
- 20:52Speaker 2: let's just tie them together. Let's pick the coolest, the
- 20:55Speaker 2: coolest like paragraph from or line whatever from EP and
- 21:00Speaker 2: just say it again and just drive it home. And
- 21:03Speaker 2: like it's the album title, and it's like, yeah, let's
- 21:06Speaker 2: and then yeah, and I mean that's a set ender
- 21:10Speaker 2: for sure, like we're ending the set with that, probably
- 21:13Speaker 2: for the next five ten years. So it's like, yeah,
- 21:16Speaker 2: that that one, that one worked out for sure.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I'll just get you quickly too.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Canapotsive just announced had to let them go Astrayanchol, which
- 21:26Speaker 4: starts in Melbourne on June the eleventh. That goes to Adelaide,
- 21:29Speaker 4: Sydney Brisbane on June the fifteenth.
- 21:32Speaker 3: So you didn't want to make that a surprise. You
- 21:34Speaker 3: had to announce it.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I had, Yeah, I had to had to
- 21:36Speaker 2: announce that one. Yeah, I mean with the the just
- 21:38Speaker 2: the cost of flights. I mean actually the cost of
- 21:41Speaker 2: flights is probably the same amount we spent on the EP,
- 21:44Speaker 2: so I guess we could have done it as a surprise,
- 21:46Speaker 2: but people might have been busy that night, you know,
- 21:48Speaker 2: they might have had other plans, so we had to
- 21:50Speaker 2: had to give a give a bit of a warning
- 21:52Speaker 2: for that one. But yeah, I'm stoked. I can't wait
- 21:55Speaker 2: to be back in Australia. I love it, love being there.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and we're headlining now, so I feel like
- 22:02Speaker 2: I feel like people are getting sick of seeing us
- 22:04Speaker 2: do support tours where we're like opening and we have
- 22:07Speaker 2: like a thirty minute set thirty minutes after doors open.
- 22:11Speaker 2: It's like, okay, let's give him the full hour. Do
- 22:14Speaker 2: a proper headliner.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Make it a big deal. So you know, I'm not
- 22:18Speaker 1: as gonna hope people show up.
- 22:20Speaker 4: We lobby in the Brisbane show might not be honest
- 22:22Speaker 4: with you. This is my first experience with counterpots. Listening
- 22:25Speaker 4: to the EPIST today and I believe my fucking mind.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Bro was awesome, he said, I'll.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Be hell yeah, let's go looking forward to it.
- 22:49Speaker 3: What what?
- 22:53Speaker 5: Oh god? Water idris.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Side wide?
- 23:08Speaker 5: I just got out, b l does that's a lot
- 23:21Speaker 5: long fright just all right? Yes, bry not Lie said,
- 23:35Speaker 5: I like fright, but that's a right at a right
- 23:45Speaker 5: at back job, my dot sack, my dog did.
