- 0:13Speaker 1: Hello, gorgeous.
- 0:14Speaker 2: It's La La Kent with Randall, and we are still quarantine.
- 0:21Speaker 2: We are quarantined af We.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Are quarantinedf you know, it feels like every day that
- 0:28Speaker 3: goes by is more wearing on our souls. It's just tough.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Oh my soul is done dead.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I mean I feel like I look out the window
- 0:38Speaker 2: and it could be a gorgeous day, and I'm.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Like, fuck this day, it doesn't fucking matter.
- 0:43Speaker 2: No, And then the press gets on and he's like,
- 0:46Speaker 2: I think we need to extend this until April thirtieth,
- 0:49Speaker 2: which granted, I'm like, great, if that's going to keep
- 0:53Speaker 2: us healthy.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Safe wise, obviously, Yeah, And let me just second that,
- 0:57Speaker 3: like I get it, okay, works to anybody, or thirtieth.
- 1:01Speaker 3: We're saving lives, We're trying to hit our peak, you know,
- 1:04Speaker 3: of the virus, so that we can start going back
- 1:06Speaker 3: to some form of normalcy. But I'm going to tell
- 1:11Speaker 3: you a lat I've never been affected by this. I mean,
- 1:14Speaker 3: I'm sorry, let me rewind that I've never been affected.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Like yeah, it's almost like a bad dream. Every day
- 1:20Speaker 3: you wake up and you want like, you know me,
- 1:23Speaker 3: I'm an optimist, so I wake up and I'm like,
- 1:25Speaker 3: let's attack, let's crush the day.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Let's you know, yeah, I take over the world, right,
- 1:29Speaker 2: you have a lot of energy.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I do, but but it's wearing, and it's emotional, and
- 1:34Speaker 3: it's it's every day I'm fighting with myself, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 3: to try to stay positive and listen to friends and
- 1:40Speaker 3: and and just you know, be optimistic. You know, in
- 1:45Speaker 3: a time that's not easy to be optimistic in.
- 1:47Speaker 2: You know what is so crazy though, Like I'm antisocial.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Everyone knows that, Like this quarantine. It's like I wasn't
- 1:54Speaker 2: socializing with people before this, you know, like it takes
- 1:57Speaker 2: a lot to just get me out of my house. No.
- 1:59Speaker 3: The only way you get out of the house, by
- 2:01Speaker 3: the way, let's just be clear so people know is
- 2:03Speaker 3: if there's.
- 2:03Speaker 1: A job, a job yet.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Or for a family member other than that.
- 2:07Speaker 2: And for the gym, which you always go to the gym, right,
- 2:10Speaker 2: So for me, that's where like for me going to
- 2:14Speaker 2: the gym. The reason why I pay for a trainer
- 2:17Speaker 2: is because I will not work out otherwise. I haven't
- 2:20Speaker 2: worked out while we've been quarantined, not that a.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Day, nothing, not even no nothing.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I have a trainer for that reason because I'm held accountable.
- 2:29Speaker 2: I get up, I go to the gym in the morning.
- 2:31Speaker 3: You're paying, I'm paying.
- 2:32Speaker 2: That's so it's like that's an incentive.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Of course, you're somebody. If you lose five dollars, you.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Go, I go and say. And so for me, the
- 2:40Speaker 2: workout in the morning is what the driving force of
- 2:43Speaker 2: my day. It's like, once I get that done, it's like,
- 2:45Speaker 2: oh my gosh, I can't wait to go do this,
- 2:47Speaker 2: do that.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah, because you know what I notice, And obviously I
- 2:50Speaker 3: took it all for granted, but I mean just life,
- 2:52Speaker 3: you know. Yeah, But I remember I go to the
- 2:54Speaker 3: office at like nine am, right, and then you'd call me.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Always abound between eight and ten, you were like no
- 3:00Speaker 3: one could talk to you. It was like, angry, get
- 3:02Speaker 3: the coffee. I'm going to the gym, the coffee.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Go to the gym.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Don't talk to me until it's finished.
- 3:07Speaker 3: By eleven thirty, you'd call me with that, Hey, what
- 3:10Speaker 3: are we doing today? Or I'm coming by the office.
- 3:12Speaker 3: We got to do this. And I noticed that, and
- 3:14Speaker 3: now we don't have that kick for you. And also
- 3:17Speaker 3: I don't have that kick at the top of the day,
- 3:19Speaker 3: and I think I'm thinking about everybody, Like lots of
- 3:22Speaker 3: friends of mine I've talked to, they don't have that kit.
- 3:24Speaker 3: There's nowhere to find it. Because all we're hoping is
- 3:28Speaker 3: can we go back to our normal lives? And also
- 3:30Speaker 3: we don't want to die. So these are two things
- 3:33Speaker 3: that I don't think we ever thought we'd have to
- 3:35Speaker 3: face as a as a world, as a as the universe. Right,
- 3:39Speaker 3: It's like, it's not like you I'm trying to put
- 3:43Speaker 3: these in words. It's not like you. You have a
- 3:46Speaker 3: friend who's sick, and you go to the hospital and
- 3:48Speaker 3: you want you pray for them, and you want them
- 3:50Speaker 3: to get better, right, and you go back to your
- 3:52Speaker 3: office and you try to go on with your day.
- 3:54Speaker 3: But everybody's in the same boat. Everybody's hoping that they
- 3:57Speaker 3: stay healthy. And everybody's quarantined to their house, so their
- 4:00Speaker 3: apartment or we're our friend's house. So I just feel
- 4:03Speaker 3: like we're all in this zombie likesf.
- 4:06Speaker 1: That's exactly how I feel.
- 4:08Speaker 2: And I'm going to be I'm going to fill you
- 4:10Speaker 2: guys in on something right now.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I'm a conspiracy theorist.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Oh god, I think that this is a way for
- 4:17Speaker 2: the government to gain control of the human race, and
- 4:22Speaker 2: it's gone very badly. And I will well in my
- 4:26Speaker 2: mind it's gone bad for someone very high up. It
- 4:30Speaker 2: could be this is exactly what they were hoping for.
- 4:33Speaker 2: The reason that I conformed is because COVID nineteen is
- 4:39Speaker 2: taking people's lives.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So I do stay in my house.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yes, I do stay in my house because God forbid
- 4:46Speaker 2: I catch it, and even more, God forbid I give
- 4:48Speaker 2: it to someone who's older if I were to have it,
- 4:51Speaker 2: which I do not.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But I believe.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I'm sorry, something's going on. Something is going on. And
- 4:58Speaker 2: Randall is totally He's like, you're crazy, lot.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I'm sitting I'm sitting two feet from you. I want
- 5:03Speaker 3: to fall out of my chair right now. But law,
- 5:05Speaker 3: here's the thing. You're my partner and I love you.
- 5:07Speaker 3: If you believe this is conspiracy, then I have to
- 5:11Speaker 3: let you believe that. And I've read articles where people
- 5:14Speaker 3: believe that. Here's what I believe. I believe that some
- 5:17Speaker 3: idiot far away I ate some fucking animal that they
- 5:23Speaker 3: shouldn't have been fucking eating. And all the scientists are saying,
- 5:27Speaker 3: and medical specialists that this was like the perfect storm,
- 5:31Speaker 3: like it took the virus into this person in China
- 5:34Speaker 3: and manifested itself perfectly and then was able to mutate
- 5:37Speaker 3: going to other people, and here we are with a
- 5:40Speaker 3: worldwide pandemic. All I'm going to say is this sucks.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I don't give a shit. I've woken up every day,
- 5:45Speaker 3: you know me a lot. See she's smiling now if
- 5:47Speaker 3: you guys can see her. The thing is, she knows
- 5:49Speaker 3: that I'm the biggest optimist and for me and for
- 5:52Speaker 3: me to wake up daily and feel this dark cloud
- 5:59Speaker 3: like everybody's feeling, you know, you're trying to make the
- 6:01Speaker 3: best of it. You really do, but it's not easy.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Randall's mad because he can't go direct his movie.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Here's the thing.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Randall is like a fucking uh what is that? The
- 6:13Speaker 2: energizer bunny.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good word.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Keep going and going and going.
- 6:17Speaker 1: That is you.
- 6:18Speaker 2: And so for you, the dark cloud is because you
- 6:20Speaker 2: can't be out and about and socializing and doing this
- 6:23Speaker 2: and do you have sound.
- 6:24Speaker 3: It's like a creative person and it's.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Totally I get that hard for an.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Artist, whether you're a filmmaker or an actor or a
- 6:30Speaker 3: director or anything, it's hard when you don't have an
- 6:33Speaker 3: outlet to be creative. So I mean, the great thing
- 6:36Speaker 3: and I said to you today is let's just get
- 6:38Speaker 3: on our podcast because we like it's something that gets
- 6:42Speaker 3: us to be able to share our feelings and talk
- 6:45Speaker 3: about things.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Well, it makes me again, I am driven, like I'm
- 6:50Speaker 2: not leaving the house unless I'm going to someone else's
- 6:53Speaker 2: house like Katie or Brittany's, or if I'm getting paid
- 6:57Speaker 2: to leave my house.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Otherwise I don't see a reason to leave my house.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I'm like quarantined with or without coronaout.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I can ask a question. I understand that because I've
- 7:07Speaker 3: been with you for four years. Right. The thing that
- 7:10Speaker 3: I want to know that I think that you're not,
- 7:11Speaker 3: that you're missing here is that even though you love
- 7:14Speaker 3: the luxury of just chilling, Let's say, is you had
- 7:18Speaker 3: the option that if I called you and said law
- 7:21Speaker 3: or you call me at work. Here's per For example,
- 7:22Speaker 3: you sometimes once in a while, once a week, say babe,
- 7:25Speaker 3: what are we doing for dinner? Do you want to
- 7:26Speaker 3: go somewhere? Why don't try something different? And I'd be like, okay,
- 7:29Speaker 3: and we got right.
- 7:30Speaker 1: The option is gone.
- 7:31Speaker 3: The option's gone, yeah, Or what about this, babe, I
- 7:35Speaker 3: want to get on the plane and go to wherever,
- 7:37Speaker 3: go to go to Miami a week for a couple
- 7:41Speaker 3: of days, and just how about just go get a
- 7:43Speaker 3: massage at the twenty dollars you know, back massage place
- 7:48Speaker 3: right right.
- 7:48Speaker 2: We can't even go do that as and before this
- 7:51Speaker 2: got super crazy, like before it got real crazy, Okay,
- 7:57Speaker 2: this messuse that Randal and I love was like, yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 2: I can like come over and massage you guys.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I'll just avoid the neck.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Right the head in the face, and I'm like.
- 8:09Speaker 3: That's all you.
- 8:10Speaker 1: The only part I like that was a point a
- 8:13Speaker 1: damn point no.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I mean, And what I'm saying is like the basic
- 8:16Speaker 3: things that like and look as a man, I can
- 8:19Speaker 3: admit I like petticure manicures. We okay, why are you smiling?
- 8:24Speaker 2: Because I can picture you in the chair getting your
- 8:26Speaker 2: manny petty but fresh.
- 8:28Speaker 3: But the thing is you and I used to like
- 8:30Speaker 3: to go do that. It was like a fun little thing.
- 8:32Speaker 3: It was like a half hour. And the thing is,
- 8:34Speaker 3: we have no options. And the options are you have
- 8:36Speaker 3: to be really creative right now. But on top of that,
- 8:38Speaker 3: you have to keep your spirit up.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And look, my spirit has remained up by playing endless
- 8:44Speaker 2: amounts of rumming cues, and I got a coloring book
- 8:47Speaker 2: and a cran set of one hundred and fifty two,
- 8:50Speaker 2: and Rand's kids pulled one of my crans out of
- 8:52Speaker 2: my coloring box and I was like, oh, hel no,
- 8:57Speaker 2: oh hail no. And then they asked me for a
- 8:59Speaker 2: page of my color. I was like, you know, this
- 9:02Speaker 2: is my coloring book and my crans.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Like, I just want to tell you something, Laala. It
- 9:07Speaker 3: was more than that. People don't understand. You look like
- 9:11Speaker 3: somebody had robbed your last five dollars. Of course, your
- 9:14Speaker 3: arms swooped into those krans like they were the second.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Oh, I wiped one right out of the six year
- 9:20Speaker 2: old tent. I was like, absolutely not.
- 9:21Speaker 3: She looked like she had seen a ghost. She I
- 9:23Speaker 3: don't think she knew Lala could move that fast. She
- 9:26Speaker 3: went for the kran. You write the cran you said,
- 9:28Speaker 3: it's my box.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I bought the girls their own pack of ninety six.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Oh you know the number? This is how details you?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Maybe it was sixty four, I can't remember, but it
- 9:39Speaker 2: was a lot. They had their own crans.
- 9:41Speaker 3: When this airs, will you will you please.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Give Crayola a shout out? Of course, Crayola has kept
- 9:47Speaker 1: me sane in this, But will.
- 9:49Speaker 3: You also promote your art? Will you show people some
- 9:51Speaker 3: of these colorings, because you haven't left the table in
- 9:53Speaker 3: two weeks?
- 9:54Speaker 2: Two boks No. And the coloring book is the pages
- 9:58Speaker 2: are like police, you know, like Barcelona, Miami, all of
- 10:03Speaker 2: these amazing places. And I just sit there in color
- 10:05Speaker 2: and I'm like, one day, one day I can come
- 10:09Speaker 2: back to you.
- 10:10Speaker 3: It's it's great. And I watch you. I've seen you
- 10:13Speaker 3: and your mom every single day for two and a
- 10:16Speaker 3: half weeks. Now, this is what the day consists of.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Wake up, Yeah, everybody looks at each other like, oh shit,
- 10:22Speaker 3: we're fucked again. And then and then and then and
- 10:26Speaker 3: then we all say okay, thank God we're healthy. We
- 10:28Speaker 3: do that little prayer yes, and then it goes from
- 10:30Speaker 3: there to coloring yes, follow by moping around again for
- 10:36Speaker 3: a few more hours, follow by television, follow by four
- 10:40Speaker 3: hours of rummy cue is it Rummy cube? Yeah, Rummy
- 10:42Speaker 3: cube Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Speaking of television, the mother effing Tiger King.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Oh oh god, okay, every let me just say this.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Let me just say this.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Everyone.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Everyone on the internet is.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Like, oh MG, this is crazy, ohmg, psychotic. For me,
- 11:02Speaker 4: it made me sick to my stomach that millions upon
- 11:07Speaker 4: millions of dollars were spent on this lawsuit between the
- 11:10Speaker 4: Tiger King and Carol Baskin and all these other fuck
- 11:14Speaker 4: ups that I can't believe our world has people like.
- 11:17Speaker 1: This, Like it makes me sick. I had no idea.
- 11:21Speaker 2: I was raised in Utah and I came west to California,
- 11:24Speaker 2: Like we're open minded, we're normal.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Those people.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I'm like, those people exist on our planet, Like, we're fucked.
- 11:31Speaker 2: If there's more people like that, we are fucked. My
- 11:34Speaker 2: whole thing was it went back to the all the
- 11:38Speaker 2: money that was wasted that could have gone to helping
- 11:42Speaker 2: the fucking lions, tigers, bears in captivity, the apes. As
- 11:47Speaker 2: an animal activist, like you know, Blackfish changed.
- 11:50Speaker 1: My entire life.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yes, when I saw that documentary, it just like transformed everything. Yes,
- 11:56Speaker 2: my new cause, I think is like getting people to
- 11:59Speaker 2: understand what the fuck it means to rehabilitate an animal.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I need to weigh in here. So you promoted this
- 12:05Speaker 3: documentary to me for a long time. For about a
- 12:07Speaker 3: week straight, you kept saying you need to see this,
- 12:10Speaker 3: and I kept seeing online people going crazy over him.
- 12:13Speaker 3: So finally you got me to sit down and I
- 12:17Speaker 3: watched the first episode. I was hooked, hooked. Okay, it
- 12:21Speaker 3: is surreal, it's amazing, and I know that you're going
- 12:25Speaker 3: to get angry because I think it's amazing television. Let's
- 12:28Speaker 3: start there. Yes, the people are fucked up with the
- 12:32Speaker 3: abuse of how they put in these animals. But what
- 12:34Speaker 3: I want to tell you is this this guy, Tiger,
- 12:39Speaker 3: the Tiger King, that's his name, Tiger King.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Joe Exotic, Joe Exotic.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Yes, Joe Exotic should have been the biggest country star ever.
- 12:47Speaker 3: He is phenomenal, voice, phenomenal. He should have been in Nashville.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Got rid of the animals and gone off and said.
- 12:55Speaker 2: You want to know what's so insane is that Joe Exotic.
- 12:59Speaker 1: To me, was the most likable one.
- 13:01Speaker 3: I like Joe Exotic.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Carol Baskin is up in here, fucking fooling everyone, acting
- 13:06Speaker 2: like she has a sanctuary.
- 13:08Speaker 3: For about Carol Baskin, She's full of shit. She's full
- 13:11Speaker 3: of shit shit, And.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I'm telling you, Carol, she loves to see everybody.
- 13:15Speaker 1: She sues everybody for what our opinion.
- 13:18Speaker 3: It's free speech.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I don't tough shit, tough.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Shit, and I'm in quarantine, so I don't give a shit,
- 13:25Speaker 3: Carol Baskin now, Oh no, yeah, you know what. We're
- 13:28Speaker 3: both going in.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Know what though, miss Joe Exotic.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Joe is that if we come there and rescue.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Joe Exotic is on the other side now he's talking
- 13:35Speaker 2: to Peta.
- 13:35Speaker 3: He's.
- 13:36Speaker 2: The most powerful moment in that entire documentary was when
- 13:39Speaker 2: Joe Exotic said, you want to know why they say
- 13:42Speaker 2: animals dyeing cages, It's because their soul dies.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And right then I was like, you fucking get it right.
- 13:47Speaker 2: It has nothing to do with the way that you're
- 13:49Speaker 2: loving that animal behind a cage. They don't belong in there.
- 13:52Speaker 3: I agree with you, and I always stand by your cause.
- 13:55Speaker 2: But then we have these fuckers that go out like
- 13:57Speaker 2: the guy that owns Jimmy Johns and he's out fucking
- 13:59Speaker 2: pop being these beautiful animals for sport, you know, like
- 14:03Speaker 2: trophy hunting. Again, these people exist on our planet and
- 14:09Speaker 2: it it's terrifying.
- 14:10Speaker 3: People don't know your obsession and passion for animal rights.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I mean, when we go to Las Vegas, you will
- 14:19Speaker 3: not stay at certain hotels. We're not gonna mention it.
- 14:21Speaker 3: So don't do that, all.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Right, But you guys know which hotels.
- 14:25Speaker 3: She just won't stay at hotels where there's any animals
- 14:27Speaker 3: kept in captivity, so no. So basically in Las Vegas
- 14:30Speaker 3: and other places all over the world, we're limited to
- 14:33Speaker 3: about four hotels.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I also do extensive research on zoos, because if you
- 14:37Speaker 2: think I'm walking into a zoo, which I haven't been
- 14:40Speaker 2: to a zoo since I was a kid, but I
- 14:41Speaker 2: really do the fucking work to see if that zoo
- 14:45Speaker 2: really really is doing what they claim to do.
- 14:49Speaker 3: True, You're true about this stuff at all.
- 14:51Speaker 2: What I do want to say is some people are
- 14:52Speaker 2: up on the internet and they're like, oh my god,
- 14:55Speaker 2: the people of vander Pump Rules or whatever reality show
- 14:57Speaker 2: like people like this exist.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You know what, We're fucking gems compared to people.
- 15:01Speaker 2: That exist who are doing real, fucking dirty shows.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Well, none of you guys are are evil in spirit.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Those those some of these people out there on some
- 15:09Speaker 3: of these documentaries on watch air.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's crazy.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Though they're vicious, they're not only vicious, but they're just
- 15:16Speaker 2: uneducated people.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Well, I mean, that's why they make great televisions.
- 15:20Speaker 1: He's like, what the fuck?
- 15:23Speaker 2: And then that, and then one of the guys is like,
- 15:25Speaker 2: and my wife's pregnant and he's like showing the nanny.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I'm like, stop creating, stop having babies.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Don't but take a second for one second and say
- 15:36Speaker 3: you were addicted to that documentary. It was high level.
- 15:39Speaker 3: It was one of the most entertainments.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Addicted.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I can't I go to bed dreaming about it.
- 15:44Speaker 3: You wish there were another ten episodes?
- 15:46Speaker 1: I do.
- 15:46Speaker 2: But then I read this, Uh, the director or the
- 15:50Speaker 2: producers did a Q and A, and I read about
- 15:52Speaker 2: the process of them filming over five years, and one
- 15:56Speaker 2: of the girls that worked on it was like, you know,
- 15:59Speaker 2: I feel like this has ended.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Like I did my job.
- 16:02Speaker 2: And everything, and I was like, you know what, I
- 16:04Speaker 2: just hope that something great comes out of this, and
- 16:06Speaker 2: people watching the documentary don't focus too much on the
- 16:11Speaker 2: stories of the people and focus on why they made
- 16:14Speaker 2: that documentary, and that was to shed light on big
- 16:17Speaker 2: cats in captivity.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Well, I think everybody saw that, and they also were
- 16:20Speaker 3: exposed Like, for instance, I've never even knew this exists
- 16:23Speaker 3: in the US. So for me, somebody that knows about
- 16:26Speaker 3: a lot a lot about animal rights because of being
- 16:27Speaker 3: with you, I think that even opened my eyes further.
- 16:30Speaker 3: So I think a lot of people are going to
- 16:31Speaker 3: be educated and be sensitives and stuff. I want to
- 16:34Speaker 3: just pivot here to get ready for our guests, okay,
- 16:39Speaker 3: in which I'm really really excited.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Was our guest Rand tell them.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Our guest is an actor who I met because friends
- 16:49Speaker 3: of mine were friends of mine in the industry were concerned,
- 16:53Speaker 3: and friends of this person's names Brad Schmidt, and he
- 16:57Speaker 3: contracted covid okay, and I about ten days ago, I
- 17:02Speaker 3: saw on his story that he had gone into the
- 17:05Speaker 3: hospital and he had written this really lengthy story and
- 17:08Speaker 3: now as a young man in his thirties with no
- 17:10Speaker 3: underlying health issues, and he went to the doctor basically
- 17:14Speaker 3: came down with it, didn't feel good. Went to the doctor,
- 17:16Speaker 3: they couldn't get a test, went home, gave him some medication.
- 17:19Speaker 3: He got worse, worse, to the point where he told
- 17:22Speaker 3: me he thought he was breathing shards of glass. Wow.
- 17:24Speaker 3: And fast forward. Finally his doctor said, on day six,
- 17:28Speaker 3: it was so bad, he said, you need to walk
- 17:31Speaker 3: yourself into the emergency room to get a test. Watch
- 17:33Speaker 3: selse the emergency room. He had double pneumonia in each
- 17:35Speaker 3: of pneumonia each of his lungs. They tested him, they
- 17:39Speaker 3: came back positive, and basically I think he was basically
- 17:41Speaker 3: fighting for his life to get stabilized. And he just
- 17:44Speaker 3: got released yesterday or the day before, and we're going
- 17:47Speaker 3: to have him call in and we're going to I
- 17:49Speaker 3: really am excited about this because I want people to
- 17:53Speaker 3: know and hear from somebody that's in your age group,
- 17:56Speaker 3: and that's you know, younger than me, but was perfectly
- 18:00Speaker 3: healthy and here was fighting for his life. And I
- 18:02Speaker 3: think that's the seriousness of this virus that we need
- 18:05Speaker 3: to hear about.
- 18:05Speaker 2: All right, Well, let's get him on the phone and
- 18:07Speaker 2: we will be right back.
- 18:13Speaker 3: All right, We're back, law. What's up?
- 18:16Speaker 1: We have a very special guest on the line.
- 18:19Speaker 3: We do. We have Brad Schmidt. Brad say hello everybody. So, Brad,
- 18:24Speaker 3: you are somebody who I linked up with friends of
- 18:30Speaker 3: mine or friends of yours and through social media about
- 18:33Speaker 3: twelve or fourteen days ago. I had seen that you
- 18:36Speaker 3: contracted COVID. Is that correct? Correct? And the reason I
- 18:41Speaker 3: have you on because I've been texting you daily, you know,
- 18:44Speaker 3: and keeping in touch with you in the hospital and
- 18:46Speaker 3: we've never met. But it went very sweet by the
- 18:48Speaker 3: way you know. It really affected me because you know,
- 18:55Speaker 3: somebody who's forty years old, you have a wife, you
- 18:58Speaker 3: have two young children, a healthy guy, you have no
- 19:02Speaker 3: underlying issues. Correct, true?
- 19:04Speaker 5: Well, true?
- 19:04Speaker 3: Ye, So I see this, I see your story. I
- 19:08Speaker 3: moved and I start texting you and you tell me
- 19:11Speaker 3: you know, you're in really bad shape at the hospital.
- 19:14Speaker 3: So basically what I want to do is I want
- 19:16Speaker 3: people to understand from somebody who's been through this, how
- 19:21Speaker 3: serious this became, and how somebody who is young and
- 19:24Speaker 3: healthy is affected. Because I was affected by your story.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I was floored, emotional, I was I was sad, I
- 19:32Speaker 3: was you know, I just was freaked the fuck out.
- 19:36Speaker 3: And if I'm freaked the fuck out and you're laying
- 19:39Speaker 3: in a hospital bed where your family can't be with you,
- 19:41Speaker 3: I want you to take us through the journey from
- 19:44Speaker 3: when you first had symptoms and kind of give us
- 19:48Speaker 3: like a diary.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Yeah. I think you know, like most people in the beginning,
- 19:52Speaker 5: that's just progressing. I mean, like I said, you know,
- 19:54Speaker 5: I'm healthy, responsible, and like I'm always washing my hands.
- 20:00Speaker 5: I have no underlying health issues. So like observing this
- 20:04Speaker 5: to the news and hearing stories, it always felt like
- 20:07Speaker 5: something once removed like, Okay, it's going on. It's there,
- 20:11Speaker 5: but it's not going to happen to me. This isn't
- 20:12Speaker 5: something that's going to affect me. And if it does,
- 20:15Speaker 5: it's the flu. Like I'll beat it. It's okay, I'm
- 20:17Speaker 5: not worried about it. It was a Friday, I would
- 20:22Speaker 5: say Fridays. I think it was like Friday the thirteenth.
- 20:25Speaker 5: Ironically about that, wow, yeah, I started to feel, you know,
- 20:31Speaker 5: like a little kind of under the weather. I had
- 20:33Speaker 5: a cold coming on then that evening, I think when
- 20:36Speaker 5: I went to bed, I had kind of the chills,
- 20:38Speaker 5: and I thought to myself, all right, you know what,
- 20:40Speaker 5: I'm a load up and inviting and see, I'm going
- 20:42Speaker 5: to rest. It's going to kind of sleep through the
- 20:44Speaker 5: weekend and sleep it off. And usually I can bounce
- 20:45Speaker 5: back from a cold really quickly. Well, that Monday rolled
- 20:50Speaker 5: around the sixteenth, and brother, I was, I'm gonna say it.
- 20:57Speaker 5: I don't care. I was fucked up.
- 20:58Speaker 3: That's okay, allowed, after what you've been through, you could
- 21:01Speaker 3: say whatever you.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Want, Okay, good, all right, we'll clear it. But there's
- 21:05Speaker 5: no other way for me to put it. Like you know,
- 21:07Speaker 5: I'm pretty aware, like anybody that's really healthy of like
- 21:10Speaker 5: when my body feels a little bit off, but it's
- 21:12Speaker 5: like something you haven't felt before. I felt that way,
- 21:14Speaker 5: so I called my doctor. They told me to come
- 21:18Speaker 5: in and basically just kind of get a test for
- 21:21Speaker 5: the flu, do a scan of my lungs. And I
- 21:24Speaker 5: knew something was really off and I had this odd
- 21:26Speaker 5: I really like it, like really odd. They call it
- 21:30Speaker 5: a dry cough. I don't know if that's right, but
- 21:32Speaker 5: it's it was almost like a weeze. And I'm like, Okay,
- 21:34Speaker 5: this doesn't feel right. So I go. When I sit down,
- 21:37Speaker 5: my doctor's not there. If you feel like I see
- 21:39Speaker 5: another doctor, a very sweet guy, doctor Jason Waie, and
- 21:43Speaker 5: he's you know, looking at me. Everybody's masked up. Everybody's
- 21:46Speaker 5: a little bit freaked out because COVID is starting to
- 21:48Speaker 5: kind of pop off, and they don't really know like
- 21:50Speaker 5: how to treat you. Meaning you know, I was I
- 21:53Speaker 5: was a baby, you know, like in the early you know, eighties,
- 21:56Speaker 5: but I imagine it was like you know, when you contracted
- 21:59Speaker 5: AIDS at the onset of that disease, people just didn't
- 22:02Speaker 5: know how to treat you. So they put me in
- 22:04Speaker 5: this private room. They had me throwing a mask and
- 22:07Speaker 5: they did a scan of my lungs first.
- 22:09Speaker 3: I actually thought of that the other day. I was
- 22:12Speaker 3: thinking about when the AIDS epidemic first came onto the scene.
- 22:16Speaker 3: What the eighties, you know, look or late seventies, early eighties,
- 22:20Speaker 3: what that looked like. I think people went through a
- 22:23Speaker 3: very similar Just why didn't have the knowledge?
- 22:27Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, nobody knows, that's the thing. And you don't
- 22:31Speaker 5: want to make it like a one to one obviously,
- 22:33Speaker 5: but I have to tell you, no one knew what
- 22:36Speaker 5: to do. Oh Like, even even when I went into
- 22:39Speaker 5: the hospital, they had a guard kind of slash nurse
- 22:43Speaker 5: just inside the doors. And I'll never forget I walked
- 22:46Speaker 5: in when they were going to knit me. I gave
- 22:48Speaker 5: the guy my name, and right away he knew who
- 22:51Speaker 5: I was because they were expecting me. Wow, someone was
- 22:53Speaker 5: trying to come into the doors behind me and he
- 22:56Speaker 5: started screaming, what stay out, stay out, stay out. So
- 22:59Speaker 5: I like processed me and I thought, holy fucking shit.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Okay, I have a question, is this is this day too?
- 23:05Speaker 3: Are you on day two now or day three? When
- 23:08Speaker 3: we're when we're at this one.
- 23:09Speaker 5: So and you see la I'm at day three, okay,
- 23:12Speaker 5: so I'm usually i'm a day three to do a scan.
- 23:14Speaker 5: They see, you've got a very small spot on your lungs,
- 23:17Speaker 5: like basically like an acute bronchitess. I'm like, okay, they
- 23:21Speaker 5: give me a regular food test. The food test comes
- 23:23Speaker 5: back right away. You're negative. So they're like, look, you
- 23:27Speaker 5: do listen to this. You do not meet all the
- 23:30Speaker 5: symptoms for COVID.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Oh this is what.
- 23:33Speaker 5: They told me, and I knew. I was like, oh fuck,
- 23:36Speaker 5: they're not going to test me. So they said, listen,
- 23:37Speaker 5: go home. Yeah, they sent me home.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Oh, oh my god.
- 23:41Speaker 5: And you know what it wasn't It wasn't the doctor's fault, right,
- 23:45Speaker 5: They just said a didn't have the tests or be
- 23:47Speaker 5: they weren't able to get them. So he said, listen,
- 23:50Speaker 5: we'll keep checking in with you, but I can't give
- 23:52Speaker 5: you a test. Go home if your fever gets worse.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Because my fever was at around one hundred consistently. I'm
- 23:58Speaker 5: not too crazy, but I had a fever. Well have
- 24:01Speaker 5: you come back in.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Did you ask for the test? Because I'm curious at
- 24:04Speaker 3: that point because I know they didn't have the test.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Thing you asked for it, and they said, I did,
- 24:08Speaker 3: you don't meet the criteria.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Well, and it wasn't so black and white. He did
- 24:12Speaker 5: say that. But my understanding was he had to contact
- 24:15Speaker 5: someone at least at this moment, because this is fairly
- 24:17Speaker 5: early on when this started breaking out, he had to
- 24:20Speaker 5: contact someone at the TDC the permission to be able
- 24:24Speaker 5: to get me a test. And I'm thinking, they're fucking
- 24:28Speaker 5: kidding me. Wow, Okay, well what am I going to do? Right? Yeah?
- 24:31Speaker 5: So I go home. I go home. Okay, cold sweats
- 24:35Speaker 5: are getting worse. Cost starts getting progressively worse, fever starts
- 24:39Speaker 5: going up.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Are we in day four?
- 24:41Speaker 5: Now we're day four, day four, day five, like around
- 24:45Speaker 5: two that that Tuesday, like the seventeenth, thank you, like
- 24:49Speaker 5: Saint Patrick's day exactly.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Wow.
- 24:51Speaker 5: And so the fever kept getting progressively worse and each day,
- 24:56Speaker 5: so the sixteen seventeen eighteen, the HOTA you see, I
- 24:59Speaker 5: would call on check in. There's literally nothing they could do.
- 25:02Speaker 5: They would say, doctor Lee is still trying to get
- 25:04Speaker 5: be okay for a test, but we can't get a test.
- 25:08Speaker 5: So now keep in mind, this is like some backstory
- 25:11Speaker 5: we don't really need to get into. But my wife
- 25:13Speaker 5: is she's doing like a career change. She's in the
- 25:16Speaker 5: middle of the nursing school. Oh right now in Wyoming,
- 25:20Speaker 5: right at the University of Wyoming with she's got my kids,
- 25:24Speaker 5: and so she's getting freaked out too because she's not
- 25:26Speaker 5: here to like take care of me or check in
- 25:27Speaker 5: on me. So finally the eighteenth, so we're day one, two, three, four, five. Now,
- 25:34Speaker 5: I mean I couldn't even got a bed.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Okay, hold on, hold on, So just so I understand
- 25:37Speaker 3: on day five. On day five, you couldn't, like the
- 25:41Speaker 3: fever was so bad, the shakes everything, you couldn't leave.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Now you can't walk around, I mean, you're that sick. No,
- 25:48Speaker 3: oh my god. Yeah, this is a nightmare.
- 25:50Speaker 5: To get from my bedroom to the bathroom like an
- 25:54Speaker 5: en suite, which was maybe five yards. I got a
- 25:58Speaker 5: breath that I'd be lightheaded, like literally out of breath.
- 26:01Speaker 3: At that point I got. At that point I go
- 26:03Speaker 3: to the hospital. There's not even a.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Question, well yeah, and then the question is like, well
- 26:06Speaker 5: do you just sit at the hospital? Do they It's
- 26:09Speaker 5: just there's no clear information.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Scary this story for me right now, and I'm telling you,
- 26:16Speaker 3: I have anxiety filling my body because I can't imagine.
- 26:23Speaker 3: I can't imagine what you're feeling, because it's not like
- 26:27Speaker 3: you could just drive to the hospital and they were
- 26:29Speaker 3: ready like today, you know what I mean, Like two
- 26:31Speaker 3: weeks later, they're obviously handling this differently, But you were
- 26:36Speaker 3: at the you were at the beginning of this, you know,
- 26:39Speaker 3: So so tell me now what happens five days in.
- 26:42Speaker 5: So the nurse calls and I mean, I at this
- 26:46Speaker 5: point of hacking, it's just a mess, and I don't
- 26:50Speaker 5: internally freak out much, but I was internally freaking out
- 26:53Speaker 5: because I could feel myself deteriorating. I could feel my
- 26:55Speaker 5: lung getting heavier. And the nurse says, doctor Lee couldn't
- 27:00Speaker 5: couldn't get anyone in the CBC to approve a test, right,
- 27:04Speaker 5: just get yourself, get in your car, take yourself into
- 27:09Speaker 5: Saint jos in Burbank because they had apparently released like
- 27:13Speaker 5: a couple hundred tests that they were giving there. So
- 27:16Speaker 5: I get in my car, I drive over there, which
- 27:19Speaker 5: was like a chore park. I start walking up and
- 27:22Speaker 5: they kind of have this whole outdoor tenting system kind
- 27:26Speaker 5: of set up, like it reminded me of that above
- 27:29Speaker 5: et where they had like all the tents set up
- 27:31Speaker 5: and the doctors walking around and have mess suits. So luckily,
- 27:36Speaker 5: like literally, by the grace of God, I was able.
- 27:39Speaker 5: I was like the third one there and it only
- 27:41Speaker 5: took like about an hour and a half and I
- 27:42Speaker 5: was able to get in. I sat down. The doctor
- 27:44Speaker 5: came into the tent, I took one look at me,
- 27:46Speaker 5: and basically he didn't say it, but he was like,
- 27:48Speaker 5: holy fuck. So he turned around. They got a test
- 27:52Speaker 5: test kit. He came in. It's really long, it's a
- 27:55Speaker 5: swab and they just stick it way in the back
- 27:58Speaker 5: here and it's really uncomfortable. Tested me for the regular flu.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Again.
- 28:02Speaker 5: That was negative, and he'sas listening to go home, just
- 28:05Speaker 5: lay down, just try to stay high grated, and we're
- 28:08Speaker 5: going to call you within two to three days with
- 28:10Speaker 5: the test resulte.
- 28:11Speaker 3: So they send you home again, Send me home again.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Oh yeah, and you know partially because while you know
- 28:19Speaker 5: I had a bad temperature, my vitals on the whole
- 28:23Speaker 5: were fairly okay. But one thing that was not good.
- 28:25Speaker 5: And I have to tell you this and anybody that's
- 28:26Speaker 5: listening that is like exercises or runs a lot. When
- 28:31Speaker 5: you're done, like exercising your heart rate. Your your standing
- 28:35Speaker 5: heart rate's usually pretty low. Mine is usually hovers around
- 28:38Speaker 5: like a fifty to fifty five A MC geek guy,
- 28:40Speaker 5: I was kind of track at my heart rate. There's
- 28:42Speaker 5: basically no activity was in one twenty? What my heart?
- 28:46Speaker 5: What is cranking? Yeah?
- 28:47Speaker 3: Oh so your heart was an overdrive. I mean it
- 28:50Speaker 3: was an under drive just to just to breathe, just
- 28:54Speaker 3: a function. I just this is this is scary.
- 28:57Speaker 5: So of retrospect, it makes sense. Why people would, you know,
- 29:00Speaker 5: pre existing conditions or hard conditions or just long issues
- 29:04Speaker 5: in general, you know, or are passing away. So I
- 29:07Speaker 5: go home. I think we're like at day six. Now
- 29:10Speaker 5: a day seven, that's Thursday, that's nineteenth.
- 29:15Speaker 3: They call.
- 29:16Speaker 5: The doctor calls and get this. It's a nurse. Excuse me.
- 29:19Speaker 5: She calls and she says Brad Schmidt. I'm like yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 5: She says, hey, you know, you know, nurse so and
- 29:26Speaker 5: so I was at the hospital. We tested you. You
- 29:29Speaker 5: test came back it's positive. I'm like, okay, I'm positive.
- 29:34Speaker 5: So I'm like I'm expecting them to be like I
- 29:37Speaker 5: come in coming right away right.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Like I would. I would, I would be in the
- 29:40Speaker 3: car on that phone call. I mean, I would there
- 29:42Speaker 3: would even be a conversation. But the one thing I
- 29:45Speaker 3: want to tell people I can tell just from texting
- 29:47Speaker 3: and now talking to you, law I mean you could
- 29:49Speaker 3: tell lot he's a very level headed.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Yeah, you're very calm, loll and I would.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Be on a stretch.
- 29:57Speaker 5: So this is what shots right, helicop you're coming in
- 30:00Speaker 5: picking you up?
- 30:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, So you're tested positive and you would think
- 30:04Speaker 2: they would tell you to come in right away.
- 30:06Speaker 1: So what happens?
- 30:07Speaker 5: No, they don't. Oh so she says, you're positive, Like,
- 30:12Speaker 5: how do you feel? I'm like, you know, in my
- 30:14Speaker 5: head right and my animal brain of the kind of
- 30:16Speaker 5: fuck do you think I feel?
- 30:18Speaker 3: Right?
- 30:18Speaker 5: But I said, you know, but honestly right, I'm like,
- 30:21Speaker 5: you're not feeling great. The coughing is getting more persistence.
- 30:27Speaker 5: You said, listen, I'm going to talk to the hospital.
- 30:29Speaker 5: She's within a couple hours. If you're not, if things
- 30:32Speaker 5: are not feeling level off at all, you're not feeling better,
- 30:35Speaker 5: call me. We're going to have to come in. We're
- 30:37Speaker 5: going to admit you. And you know what I'm realizing
- 30:39Speaker 5: in retrospect is he they didn't know, which is they
- 30:42Speaker 5: just didn't have a lot of information b they were
- 30:44Speaker 5: worried about beds, you know. I mean, if I'm a
- 30:48Speaker 5: guy who has it, even though my cimizens are bad,
- 30:51Speaker 5: and I can beat it on my own by fink quarantines,
- 30:53Speaker 5: as opposed to someone who's going to legitimately die, they
- 30:57Speaker 5: want to save the bed for that person.
- 30:59Speaker 3: They want for people that need it. But I want
- 31:01Speaker 3: to say something here to people listening. I really believe
- 31:05Speaker 3: that if you've been and now, what day are you on, Brad,
- 31:08Speaker 3: six at this point or five?
- 31:09Speaker 2: No?
- 31:10Speaker 1: Seven? I'm like going to day seven.
- 31:12Speaker 5: I'm on to day six seven, yes, seven, yeah.
- 31:15Speaker 3: In my opinion, in my opinion, And Brad, tell me
- 31:18Speaker 3: if you look backwards at this, if you were giving
- 31:21Speaker 3: advice to me and I was on day six or
- 31:24Speaker 3: seven and I couldn't breathe well, and I couldn't get
- 31:26Speaker 3: out of bed and my fever was spiking, wouldn't you
- 31:29Speaker 3: tell me get your ass the emergency room at this point.
- 31:32Speaker 5: Pick your fucking ass up off the floor and get
- 31:35Speaker 5: to the hospital.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Okay, So that's the advice I'm saying. I get I
- 31:38Speaker 3: get what you're saying, and I agree with you. If
- 31:41Speaker 3: you're a healthy young person, you know, three days in
- 31:44Speaker 3: four days in you have a fever one hundred and
- 31:46Speaker 3: you can kind of walk around, then you don't need
- 31:49Speaker 3: to go to the hospital. I guess I'm not giving
- 31:50Speaker 3: advice as a doctor. I'm saying I respect what you're saying,
- 31:54Speaker 3: and I would agree with you personally right law. But
- 31:57Speaker 3: if you're day six or seven and you shit's bad,
- 32:00Speaker 3: it's time to go to the er and say help me.
- 32:02Speaker 5: You understand, you know, I've had a couple of friends
- 32:05Speaker 5: reach out to me. You know, actors on both coasts
- 32:08Speaker 5: here and in New York who you know they've been around
- 32:10Speaker 5: groups of people they're feeling sick. And even Randall, you know,
- 32:14Speaker 5: you kind of hit me up and you were talking
- 32:16Speaker 5: to me and saying you weren't feeling great. What were
- 32:18Speaker 5: the two indicators that I would say, don't even hesitate.
- 32:21Speaker 5: If you've had a fever and it's a low grade
- 32:24Speaker 5: fever like around one hundred and it's not going away,
- 32:26Speaker 5: and you've got the chills and you've got coughs, don't
- 32:29Speaker 5: listen to what anybody tells you. Get up, go to
- 32:32Speaker 5: the hospital, go to your doctor, just sit there until
- 32:34Speaker 5: they test you. That those are the two things that
- 32:36Speaker 5: I would say, especially if you have kids, you have
- 32:38Speaker 5: loved ones that you live with. I don't even wait,
- 32:40Speaker 5: just go so you can leavely know whether you are
- 32:43Speaker 5: and you're not, and then you can know what to
- 32:45Speaker 5: do next. That's what I've been telling anybody that's been
- 32:47Speaker 5: asking me.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Well, absolutely, And do you think that they may like
- 32:51Speaker 2: just because you're a healthy dude, And you may have
- 32:54Speaker 2: answered this already, I'm just like in a daze with
- 32:57Speaker 2: what you're saying, because I'm going to be honest with you.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I'm a conspiracy theorist. I like this.
- 33:03Speaker 2: I think was concocted by somebody. It's affecting people, obviously,
- 33:08Speaker 2: like yourself. Do you think that they sent you away
- 33:11Speaker 2: because they looked at you and they were like, Okay,
- 33:13Speaker 2: he has a better chance then you know, say a
- 33:17Speaker 2: seventy year old who comes in, and we want to
- 33:19Speaker 2: save the beds for those people.
- 33:21Speaker 5: With all due respect and not to minimize a life
- 33:24Speaker 5: for anybody, but one hundred percent.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Yeah, So they basically were they basically were playing. Basically,
- 33:31Speaker 3: they're looking at you saying you're not on your last lung. Yeah,
- 33:34Speaker 3: in their mind, in their mind, go home, you should
- 33:37Speaker 3: be fine. You're gonna get through this. They didn't have
- 33:39Speaker 3: all the tools at that point.
- 33:40Speaker 5: No, they've they've fought me like tooth and nail to
- 33:44Speaker 5: get tests. I mean a multiple. I mean it was unreal.
- 33:50Speaker 5: And even my doctor and I'm like, they're nable out there.
- 33:52Speaker 5: But my doctor has been a maternity who leads. Finally
- 33:54Speaker 5: got a hold of me when I was in the
- 33:56Speaker 5: hospital and she said, Brad, oh my god, and I was.
- 33:58Speaker 5: She was looking at a chart telling you what was
- 34:00Speaker 5: going on. She said, they should have taken you into
- 34:03Speaker 5: the hospital and give you a test, like that's the
- 34:04Speaker 5: first time you went in.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, And this is how people are dying in
- 34:08Speaker 3: my opinion. In addition to underline, but I think people
- 34:11Speaker 3: are going in and they don't think it's that bad,
- 34:13Speaker 3: and they think it's the flu, or the hospital's not
- 34:15Speaker 3: ready to take them, or there's you know, the tests
- 34:17Speaker 3: are taking too long. And thank god this country now
- 34:22Speaker 3: is got finally is it feels like if you need
- 34:26Speaker 3: a test, you can get it. But I mean, this
- 34:28Speaker 3: is a horrific story. I mean, your story, thank god,
- 34:31Speaker 3: is being told so people can see what has happened
- 34:35Speaker 3: with this healthcare system.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Well, and it's also you know you've shed a lot
- 34:39Speaker 2: of light for me, because I'm somebody who if I
- 34:42Speaker 2: keep if I keep my blinders on, you know, I
- 34:45Speaker 2: think of it as like, I know it's happening.
- 34:47Speaker 1: It's just the flu.
- 34:48Speaker 2: If I get it, I'll kick it, and you know,
- 34:51Speaker 2: because it's not that, and I think your story will
- 34:55Speaker 2: open a lot of people's eyes and be aware.
- 34:58Speaker 5: Especially honestly, it's why I that's why I posted. It's
- 35:01Speaker 5: why did that post. It's why I have my wife
- 35:04Speaker 5: kind of reposted, you know, because I was kind of
- 35:07Speaker 5: dismissing it a little bit in the beginning. It was there,
- 35:09Speaker 5: but like, yeah, whatever, and I had some good friends
- 35:11Speaker 5: against some you know, working actors and people that I
- 35:14Speaker 5: know that travel a lot, really just kind of poopooing it,
- 35:17Speaker 5: like really just like, eh, that's not a big deal.
- 35:20Speaker 5: Guess what it fucking is?
- 35:22Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, No, this is no, this is
- 35:26Speaker 3: no joke. And I don't want to say that to
- 35:28Speaker 3: that effect that COVID this is really beyond its waste.
- 35:34Speaker 3: I don't even know how to use the right word.
- 35:35Speaker 3: It is. You know, I was reading an article yesterday,
- 35:38Speaker 3: law and I was reading this article, and you know,
- 35:42Speaker 3: it brought so many tears to my eyes. How people
- 35:45Speaker 3: are dying alone that you can't you know, that's a
- 35:48Speaker 3: new thing. Now, can you bring your loved ones in
- 35:51Speaker 3: because you're going to contaminate them, et cetera. And are
- 35:54Speaker 3: you prepared to die alone? I think that's another part
- 35:57Speaker 3: of this.
- 35:57Speaker 5: I'm seeing those stories too. Yeah, and I think let's
- 36:00Speaker 5: cut you off. Sorry, but you know, one of the
- 36:02Speaker 5: most heartbreaking things is like, you know, no one can
- 36:05Speaker 5: see you.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Oh, I can come in. I can't even fathom that
- 36:10Speaker 3: if you take your last breath and you're not even
- 36:12Speaker 3: prepared to die. I mean, you're a young person and
- 36:15Speaker 3: that's how you die. This is a risk. Yeah, this
- 36:18Speaker 3: is the This is the reality of what we're living in.
- 36:21Speaker 3: This is why we're staying at home. This is why
- 36:23Speaker 3: we're trying to beat this. Chris, I'm gonna I'm going
- 36:25Speaker 3: to run to a commercial break, although I wish I
- 36:27Speaker 3: didn't have to. We're gonna come right back. You're not
- 36:29Speaker 3: going anywhere, and we're going to keep talking about this
- 36:31Speaker 3: because I want to hear the rest of your journey
- 36:32Speaker 3: because it is it is everything that we need to
- 36:35Speaker 3: hear today.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Yes, thank you so much. We'll be right back.
- 36:41Speaker 2: We are back talking all things health and COVID nineteen.
- 36:46Speaker 2: We have our boy Brad Schmidt on the line, who
- 36:50Speaker 2: think God has has beat coronavirus. How you feel and
- 36:55Speaker 2: be thank you so much for being here or being
- 36:57Speaker 2: via phone.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I guess yeah, thanks for so.
- 37:01Speaker 2: I want to jump into once you got out of
- 37:04Speaker 2: the hospital, what wait real.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Quick, because because you know me, law, I'm in detail.
- 37:08Speaker 1: You're detail oriented, right, just.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Take us quick as you got once you got into
- 37:13Speaker 3: the hospital. What happened and then and then out of that?
- 37:16Speaker 1: Okay, okay, okay.
- 37:17Speaker 5: I get to the hospital and the biggest oh shit
- 37:21Speaker 5: moment was they're scanning your lungs once a day. I
- 37:25Speaker 5: get to the hospital. They want to take my blood,
- 37:27Speaker 5: they throw menoxygen the first thing what they want to do.
- 37:29Speaker 5: And they're still not like putting me like in a room.
- 37:31Speaker 5: They want to scan my lungs. I do a quick
- 37:33Speaker 5: scan while I'm in the bed. They go away. I'm waiting.
- 37:37Speaker 5: Twenty minutes, thirty minutes, forty minutes, like an hour goes by,
- 37:40Speaker 5: and then the doctor comes in. He's like, okay, we're
- 37:43Speaker 5: wheeling you up into a room. I've mentioned to you Randall,
- 37:47Speaker 5: I think maybe you have a message. I'm not sure,
- 37:48Speaker 5: but that spot on my lungs that they thought was
- 37:51Speaker 5: in a cute bronchitis on Monday, which was three and
- 37:54Speaker 5: a half days earlier, the COVID. This is what people
- 37:57Speaker 5: need to understand. And I know that this doesn't happen
- 37:59Speaker 5: to every buddy, but it didn't spread throughout both of
- 38:03Speaker 5: my lungs, both of them.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you told me that you had pneumonia in each
- 38:07Speaker 3: of your lungs.
- 38:08Speaker 5: Correct double ammonia within like three and a half days,
- 38:12Speaker 5: So that that kind of kick start of this day.
- 38:16Speaker 5: And then you know, one of the last things they'll say.
- 38:18Speaker 5: While the doctors were all amazing, I had a promonologist,
- 38:23Speaker 5: infectious disease doctor in a general the one thing that
- 38:27Speaker 5: they were conferring every day and couldn't decide what to
- 38:30Speaker 5: do and ultimately decided not to give me any kind
- 38:33Speaker 5: of medicine, was how do we treat this? This is
- 38:37Speaker 5: the other thing no one's talking about. People are like, oh,
- 38:39Speaker 5: you know, they're doing anti malaria meds, and then there's
- 38:42Speaker 5: like this and that and vitamin seed rips. They didn't
- 38:45Speaker 5: give me shit primarily, And this this is the truth,
- 38:48Speaker 5: because you know, I get again a young I'm healthy,
- 38:52Speaker 5: but in my white blood kelts cell count was so
- 38:54Speaker 5: far down. They don't know what the side effects are,
- 38:57Speaker 5: and there are side effects to these things, and there
- 38:59Speaker 5: is no data on a lot of these medications, and
- 39:02Speaker 5: they don't know what's going to happen if they give
- 39:04Speaker 5: it to you, and they're really giving it to people
- 39:06Speaker 5: where it's kind of like a last salvo. It's like
- 39:08Speaker 5: the hell, Mary, give me some meds, give them something
- 39:10Speaker 5: to try to beat it.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Let me, let me ask a questions. When they put
- 39:12Speaker 3: you on the oxygen, did that feel better?
- 39:15Speaker 5: I mean, maybe it might have helped, you know, help
- 39:20Speaker 5: helped a bit. The I'm gonna screw this up. I'm
- 39:24Speaker 5: not a doctor, but the you know, the oxygen level
- 39:26Speaker 5: of my blood was really low. I guess they say
- 39:29Speaker 5: if it's below like ninety five percent, it's pretty low.
- 39:31Speaker 5: I was below ninety, like around eighty five when I
- 39:34Speaker 5: got in. And the only thing that really freaked me
- 39:39Speaker 5: out the size and the skin was really I had
- 39:42Speaker 5: to think think about this. One of the things we
- 39:44Speaker 5: don't think about during the day. We never really think
- 39:47Speaker 5: about breathing. You just do it. I didn't think about Okay,
- 39:52Speaker 5: breathe the bread out, breathing, breathed out, breathem, breathed out.
- 39:54Speaker 5: Because I was so restricted and if I was breathing
- 39:57Speaker 5: too deep, it felt like I was, you know, swallowing.
- 40:00Speaker 5: It was just a crazy thing.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Yea, this is this is the nightmare of nightmares. So
- 40:06Speaker 3: now we're on day seven or eight in the hospital.
- 40:09Speaker 3: What happens? That's the turning point. And and this is
- 40:12Speaker 3: what I want to ask you. Do you feel in
- 40:14Speaker 3: your mind, in your soul that you might die in
- 40:18Speaker 3: this bed.
- 40:19Speaker 5: I honestly don't know. I mean I don't. I don't
- 40:23Speaker 5: think that I will. I do know in that moment,
- 40:27Speaker 5: I wasn't eating. I had zero appetite for days. I
- 40:31Speaker 5: wasn't eating. It hurt the move I was having trouble breathing.
- 40:35Speaker 5: I mean, I had had one moment. This is that
- 40:38Speaker 5: God is on his trust. I have one moment where
- 40:41Speaker 5: I had the nurse kind of get up and help me,
- 40:43Speaker 5: kind of like, you know, walk into the bathroom so
- 40:44Speaker 5: I could sit down and go to the bathroom. And
- 40:48Speaker 5: I was in so much pain and sitting on the
- 40:50Speaker 5: toilet and my heart rate was racing because I just
- 40:52Speaker 5: walked to the bathroom. I literally was like, oh my god,
- 40:56Speaker 5: this is this. You know, I don't want to be dramatic,
- 40:58Speaker 5: but if I'm being honest, it's like, fuck, I can't
- 41:01Speaker 5: can't get worse because if it gets worse, I didn't know.
- 41:04Speaker 3: What was going to happen if basically in that moment,
- 41:07Speaker 3: you believe, if if it got worse, you basically could
- 41:09Speaker 3: be looking at death.
- 41:10Speaker 5: Possibly.
- 41:11Speaker 3: That's how bad it was for you.
- 41:13Speaker 5: In that moment. And you know, the doctors, to their credit,
- 41:17Speaker 5: they made the right choice and not you know, giving
- 41:20Speaker 5: me anything. You know, my body started to you know,
- 41:23Speaker 5: started to recover. They were taking blood twice a day,
- 41:28Speaker 5: doing scans every day, and they were you know, encouraged enough.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Okay, how many how many days in the hospital before
- 41:35Speaker 3: they released you? Before you started feeling better? And on
- 41:37Speaker 3: what day overall of this experience did do so?
- 41:41Speaker 5: I spent almost seven days in the hospital.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Oh my god, I would freak out.
- 41:46Speaker 5: I spent a week in the hospital.
- 41:47Speaker 3: This is the week. I mean, this is the reality
- 41:49Speaker 3: that we're living. And that's the scare.
- 41:50Speaker 5: You would have told me that anything aside from a
- 41:53Speaker 5: car accident of some kind of terrible wreck was going
- 41:55Speaker 5: to put me in the hospital for a week when
- 41:57Speaker 5: college is fucking crazy.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure, but that's I'm trying to tell people that.
- 42:01Speaker 3: That's what I think we're all trying to figure out here,
- 42:04Speaker 3: is that when they say stay at home, stay safe.
- 42:07Speaker 5: Please please please please stay at.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Home because this You're the example of all of us
- 42:13Speaker 3: in this age demographic laalas ten years younger, nine years older.
- 42:19Speaker 3: But you know, whether you're twenty five or forty five,
- 42:22Speaker 3: or sixty five or eighty five, this happens and affects
- 42:26Speaker 3: everybody right now and listening to this. So you get
- 42:30Speaker 3: released and now you're day twelve, I assume, or thirteen
- 42:34Speaker 3: right now. Where are you at today?
- 42:36Speaker 5: Fourteen fourteen, day fourteen? You know, I'm feeling progressively better. Okay,
- 42:41Speaker 5: today I have moments, I have no energy. I mean,
- 42:45Speaker 5: this is why I was texting you, hey, when you
- 42:47Speaker 5: want to do this, because I'll probably have an interesty shit,
- 42:49Speaker 5: this call, and I'm like, God.
- 42:51Speaker 3: The day, we are so grateful, we are very grateful
- 42:55Speaker 3: for you to do this.
- 42:56Speaker 5: This is very important, really important. So I'm in an
- 42:58Speaker 5: airbnb them away from you know everyone, Uh, just kind
- 43:02Speaker 5: of recuperating. I've got a call set up with the
- 43:04Speaker 5: doctor tomorrow. They're going to want to test me a
- 43:07Speaker 5: couple more times to make sure it's gone because reinfection
- 43:10Speaker 5: is also you know, it's a small possibility. And honesty,
- 43:13Speaker 5: I just I can't wait.
- 43:14Speaker 3: To see your kids.
- 43:16Speaker 5: I can't wait see my wife and kids. I haven't
- 43:18Speaker 5: seen them in so long, in a long time.
- 43:21Speaker 3: So wow, have you have you you haven't seen your
- 43:23Speaker 3: kids in two weeks or your wife?
- 43:25Speaker 5: Oh, longer than that, it's probably been about four about
- 43:28Speaker 5: four weeks.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 43:29Speaker 5: Yeah, we FaceTime, thank god, you know we have that technology.
- 43:32Speaker 3: No, of course, But I mean, but but this is
- 43:34Speaker 3: the thing I'm talking about. This is what I want
- 43:36Speaker 3: people to understand. Not only do you have to go
- 43:39Speaker 3: through this horrible, horrible thing that hopefully you survive, but
- 43:44Speaker 3: you have to do it alone. You you can't see
- 43:46Speaker 3: your family. Your family can't see you. This is probably
- 43:49Speaker 3: one of the worst pandemics you know, we've faced in
- 43:53Speaker 3: the world. I mean in our lifetime, probably in our lifetime,
- 43:56Speaker 3: in our lifetime for sure, but I also think in
- 43:59Speaker 3: history this go down as one of the worst. And
- 44:02Speaker 3: when when I get mad because I'm sitting in my house,
- 44:04Speaker 3: in my kitchen right now. I need to remind myself
- 44:09Speaker 3: that the sun is shining, that I'm here. And you
- 44:12Speaker 3: know what, even though I'm going to bounce off the
- 44:14Speaker 3: walls every day all up, at least, at least I'm
- 44:19Speaker 3: at least we're safe and healthy. And I think your
- 44:22Speaker 3: your words. People need to hear you because there's only
- 44:26Speaker 3: one alternative, and that's you know, death, getting sick and
- 44:31Speaker 3: being quarantined alone for a month, or or being healthy
- 44:34Speaker 3: in your house.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we just conform and listen to what they're
- 44:37Speaker 2: telling us to do.
- 44:38Speaker 3: Till it's safe for all of us. And I and
- 44:40Speaker 3: I do think, uh you know, I think you've been
- 44:44Speaker 3: in a roller coaster. Uh you know, and I got it. Honestly,
- 44:49Speaker 3: I applaud you and and the minute it's safe to
- 44:52Speaker 3: go out, and I mean this with all sincerity, we
- 44:55Speaker 3: are going out for a drink and we are going
- 44:58Speaker 3: to celebrate, you know, and get fucking handed.
- 45:01Speaker 5: I have to say this. I have to say this,
- 45:03Speaker 5: and I have to have to say this out loud.
- 45:06Speaker 5: I got so many messages in DMS and calls from
- 45:09Speaker 5: people that I know and that I love. But also
- 45:12Speaker 5: just as important is I got messages from people that
- 45:15Speaker 5: I don't even fucking know. It's like it was like
- 45:18Speaker 5: the beauty of like humanity, Like Randall for example. I
- 45:21Speaker 5: know we have like people in common, but we don't
- 45:23Speaker 5: know each other. You reached out and you were like, listen, man,
- 45:27Speaker 5: get better, like I'm with you, and it really helped.
- 45:30Speaker 5: It really really did. So I really appreciate you reaching out.
- 45:32Speaker 5: I really do you.
- 45:33Speaker 3: You were I just want to say this, you were
- 45:35Speaker 3: an inspiration in a time. Obviously every week they're getting
- 45:39Speaker 3: better with the testing and and and the support and
- 45:42Speaker 3: all that. But I knew when I saw somebody a
- 45:45Speaker 3: peer of mine, you know, even though we didn't know
- 45:48Speaker 3: each other, but in my peer group, in my industry,
- 45:51Speaker 3: you know, you live seven minutes down the street from me,
- 45:54Speaker 3: I wanted to reach out and say, hey, you've got somebody.
- 45:57Speaker 3: If you need something, if I can do anything, let
- 45:59Speaker 3: just please have your family call anything I could do.
- 46:02Speaker 3: And I also wanted to just be there to say, hey,
- 46:04Speaker 3: let me know how you're doing, and know that you
- 46:07Speaker 3: can text me if if you know whatever it is,
- 46:09Speaker 3: So it means a lot.
- 46:11Speaker 5: That pretty amazing, awesome, It was pretty amazing. Yeah, it
- 46:15Speaker 5: was really amazing. I appreciate it.
- 46:16Speaker 3: Thank you guys.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Well, we are so appreciative that you I know that
- 46:20Speaker 2: you're exactly took time and now we want you to
- 46:23Speaker 2: go and rest and we hope that you get to
- 46:25Speaker 2: see your family soon. Thank you so much for taking
- 46:28Speaker 2: our call.
- 46:28Speaker 5: That's my pleasure.
- 46:29Speaker 3: Time to take a nap, Yes, bro, and keep texting
- 46:33Speaker 3: me daily and let me know that you're you know
- 46:35Speaker 3: how you're doing and anything you need. Like I said,
- 46:37Speaker 3: you're good.
- 46:38Speaker 5: Man, Randall, thank you, loll I appreciate you guys.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Thanks, thank you all right.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Thank you take care.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Wow, that was intense.
- 46:47Speaker 3: That that just makes me realize that we are lucky.
- 46:51Speaker 3: And even though we're all confined to our homes and
- 46:53Speaker 3: we're bitching about not being able to leave our homes. Yeah,
- 46:57Speaker 3: listening to his story, I'm gonna take a lap around
- 47:01Speaker 3: the house and be grateful because this shit is real
- 47:05Speaker 3: and it's horrible and people are dying and people are
- 47:08Speaker 3: getting sick. But what doesn't it shock you that somebody
- 47:11Speaker 3: in our business, our industry, close to us is young
- 47:15Speaker 3: and had no underlying issues.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Well, it just goes to show you this, this virus,
- 47:21Speaker 2: it doesn't discriminate against anybody it's like it will affect
- 47:25Speaker 2: you whether you're young, old, middle age, it doesn't matter
- 47:29Speaker 2: healthy not healthy. It just affects us in a different way.
- 47:32Speaker 2: And you know, after hearing, because I needed to hear that.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I know I did.
- 47:38Speaker 1: For me, this is a fucking joke.
- 47:41Speaker 2: If I want to leave my house, And keep in mind,
- 47:44Speaker 2: I haven't left my house becauseantined. I've definitely been quarantined
- 47:49Speaker 2: and I've done that for other people's safety because I
- 47:51Speaker 2: know other people are very much like, get the fuck
- 47:54Speaker 2: away from me, and I get it.
- 47:56Speaker 3: But I think young people in your generation are saying,
- 47:59Speaker 3: and I think it's it's not I think they're just some,
- 48:02Speaker 3: not all young people. But I think a lot of
- 48:03Speaker 3: young people are saying taking the thing of if I
- 48:05Speaker 3: get it, I'm I'll be.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Okay, I'll bet see, And for me, I think of
- 48:10Speaker 2: it the other way, Like for me, I'm not like,
- 48:13Speaker 2: if I get it, I'll be okay.
- 48:15Speaker 1: I'm thinking, like God forbid, if.
- 48:17Speaker 2: I leave my house, if I were to have it,
- 48:19Speaker 2: if I gave it to someone who couldn't fight it
- 48:21Speaker 2: off as easily as I could. That is the only
- 48:23Speaker 2: reason why I've stayed quarantined. But I think as we
- 48:28Speaker 2: sign off on this episode, you know, I hope next
- 48:31Speaker 2: week we have a little bit more of a light
- 48:32Speaker 2: hearted episode.
- 48:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but this way, can I tell you this.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Was very This is what people I think needed to hear.
- 48:38Speaker 3: But can I tell you this episode like I didn't
- 48:42Speaker 3: have anybody to talk to about COVID because I was petrified.
- 48:45Speaker 3: I want to know things. I want to know what
- 48:47Speaker 3: the experience was like, to be able to educate myself,
- 48:49Speaker 3: to be able to protect you know, our our friends,
- 48:53Speaker 3: our family, my kids. And so I think listening to
- 48:57Speaker 3: him and him texting me and now hearing him, I
- 49:00Speaker 3: think just gives us some real insight that this we
- 49:02Speaker 3: got to be extra careful. We've got to you know,
- 49:04Speaker 3: even though we're quarantine, and we just have to know
- 49:07Speaker 3: that this could affect anybody. And I think young people
- 49:11Speaker 3: when they get you know, arrogant in the sense, you know,
- 49:15Speaker 3: some young people will just be stubborn and say, oh,
- 49:18Speaker 3: I'm fine if I get it. It's like a flu.
- 49:20Speaker 3: It's not like a flu. This is an unknown virus
- 49:24Speaker 3: that attacks everybody differently and kills people. And here is
- 49:28Speaker 3: a young man that just gave us his story, and
- 49:30Speaker 3: it is heartbreaking I'm so glad he's on the road's recovery,
- 49:35Speaker 3: and I promise you we will be more like next week.
- 49:37Speaker 3: But I do think that this probably will be one
- 49:39Speaker 3: of our most important episodes we'll ever do.
- 49:41Speaker 2: I fully agree with you, so once again, I want
- 49:44Speaker 2: to thank mister brad Schmidt, who you know took our
- 49:48Speaker 2: phone call. And also I want you guys to go
- 49:52Speaker 2: out there, not go out there, stay inside, slay your homes,
- 49:57Speaker 2: and again, please stay healthy and please stay safe.
- 50:00Speaker 1: We love you all very.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Much and we will catch you next week for another
- 50:04Speaker 2: episode of Give Them Mala with Randall.
- 50:06Speaker 3: Be safe, everybody,
