- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, welcome back to Bible Tract Echoes.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Michael McCurrier, host, and I'm so thankful for the fact that you've joined me today.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I have a question for you.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: Something for you to ponder, maybe you can answer me right off the bat or maybe you're not yet comfortable enough.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you're thinking we don't know each other well enough to answer this question.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: I would understand if I were you, the question is this, are you discouraged?
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: is likely that there have been different times in your life that you have been discouraged, but maybe right now is or is not one of those times.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: Regardless, my desire today and this entire week on Bible Trek echoes is to be a help for those times.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: In the past, we've called these a week of encouragement.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: We even had two or three week blocks of these weeks of encouragement, and I truly
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: any time looking at God's Word endeavoring to encourage God's people is wasted time.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: I was pondering, praying, thinking about what God would have for us this week on the radio program, and this is what he led me to.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: First Samuel chapter 30, we've referenced this passage in times passed on Bible check that goes, but we're coming back today.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to find your
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: tract.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: You need to consider getting this gospel tract right here.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's called how can a person be away?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's an interesting title and the language is just a little different than the way we'd say it today, but that's because it was written by Dr. Paul decades ago, but the truths inside of this gospel tract
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, firefighters, we hold them up rightfully as heroes, but it's really if you think about it, what they do is part heroism and part insanity to run into a burning building, my goodness.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: That truly takes a level of bravery that I don't know if I have, and I don't get me wrong.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: I would like to thank my wife for children.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: We're in a burning building.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: If I had a family member or friend, I'd like to thank I'd run in, but for these folks to train for their lives work.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: To train, as of course, EMT type things, medical training, to train how to deal with structures being on fire that they train in all sorts of different structures.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: I remember watching as a child, the training for firefighters.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: They'd work in concrete block type buildings and wood structures like
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: many framed houses are today.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: They would work in all sorts of different circumstances, vehicles, a car that's on fire, how to deal with those circumstances and not only come out unscathed themselves, but also be able to rescue those that they go in afterwards.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, firefighters are a way of escape for those on the verge of death.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: whether through smoke inhalation or through the flames, fire is nothing to mess around with, and these brave souls become a way of escape for those needing rescue.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's what this gospel track is all about.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: It juxtaposes, compares in contrast to a fireman saving a life with the greatest savior of all time, Jesus Christ,
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'd encourage you go to bibletracksink.org that's bibletracksink.org and order some of these gospeltracks.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: They are free.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: Free as a Lord provides.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: We put them all over the world and I'd love for you if you would to go to our website bibletracksink.org and order some of these today.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: We're in first Samuel chapter 30.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna read verses one through six.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: First Samuel 30, verses one through six.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: In just a moment, if you don't have a Bible with you, that's all right.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: I've got one, you'll hear me read it aloud in just a moment.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna read it and if you have a Bible, I want you to follow along though.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you can pull it up on your phone.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to realize that what I'm saying, it's not just my opinion.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just what I think.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's from the Bible.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Our outline today comes from the Bible.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it could be a help to you, especially if you find yourself in a circumstance.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: Would you say, yes, I'm, I have been or I am a little bit discouraged.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: First Samuel, chapter number.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: 30.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: Bible says this, and it came to pass.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: When David and his men were come to Zicklag on the third day, that the Amalachites had invaded the south and Zicklag and smitten Zicklag and burned it with fire, and had taken the women captive.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: That were therein, they slew not any, either great or small but carried them away and went on their way, so David and his men came to the city, and behold it was burned with fire and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters were taking captive.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: to weep.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: In David's two eyes were taken captive.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: The Hanneram, the Judge Relitis, and Abigail, the wife of Nabal, the Carmelite, and David, and this is where we get our thought from.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: And David was greatly distressed.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: David, think about that man for just a moment, we've talked about him a few weeks ago about how he slew Goliath, how he took that beast of a man and separated his head from his shoulders and held that thing up like a trophy and said this is, I'm paraphrasing a little bit, this is what happens when you defy the God of Israel.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: That David, the David who they sang songs about David has slain his 10,000s, the David who was a man of war, already young man with a good countenance, I don't know if he had a strong jar of he was just pleasing and attractive young man to look at or what.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: But the Bible tells us that this David, the same one.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: He was stressed.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: You could almost say he was discouraged.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: He was struck to his core, a great emotional angst, an issue.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: How did he handle it though?
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: I believe we can learn something from how David handled his discouragement.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: I've got to ask, have you ever been in a place where all you could do was just put your head down and keep going.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you've been in a place where you just put your head under the covers and said I'm not coming out till this goes by.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm waiting this storm out.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you didn't keep going.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you just fold it up and cried.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not putting it down if you did.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: I've been there too.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes we're just so distressed.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know how to handle it.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well David was there and maybe you are there too.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I'm speaking to a small subsection of our audience today.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe this isn't for everyone.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe there's some of you you're always on the top side.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I have found those of you who get really high or stay happy or seemingly stay happy behind closed doors sometimes.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: The highest of highs can meet the lowest of lows.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe you are truly in your heart of hearts despite the smile you've pasted on despite how you put on a facade to the world you are truly bothered and you could use what we are going to talk about this week.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: I will also say this.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want we are going to dive into the Bible.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: But this is not going to be one of those just pray your way through where everything is going to be okay, just give it all to God.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Where there is great wisdom in doing so.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: But there are some things that truly we need to talk about.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: We need to bear ye one and others burdens.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: This is not a situation where I'm going to counsel you and patch you on the head and just send you on your way.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, I would love to hear from you.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: If you're in a circumstance where you say, I personally want to reach out to someone, especially, especially if you're dealing with thoughts that may be involved harm, maybe hurting yourself.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be honest with you, I'm not some counselor with decades of on decades of experience.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, I've taken a few college courses and all those types of things.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not putting myself on a pedestal.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying, if you just need an ear, the ear of someone who
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, doesn't know you that well, but sometimes that separation helps.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to hear from you, and I'd love to connect you with someone that can and will be qualified to help you.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's multiple ways to reach out to me.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: We will get into the Bible in just a minute, but I don't want this opportunity to pass by while you're thinking about this.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: and it takes me till Tuesday Wednesday Thursday or Friday to offer some connection and Tuesday Wednesday Thursday or Friday could be too late for what you're considering right now.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to hear from you.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: You can text me directly at 3-0-9-3-16-7-2-4.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Zero.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking to all of you.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not just talking to ladies who the stereotype is that they would be more emotional I'm talking to men.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking to the David type people those that yeah, you're you act strong in the outside But on the inside there's something tearing your part you can text me at three zero nine three one six
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: 724-0.

- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: If you're watching YouTube, the probably giving you all the different ways across the screen that you can contact us as well.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want there to be any reason.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: that you have an excuse for why you did not get help today.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: We will get into the Bible.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do that right now.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: What did he do?
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, first number six, the first Samuel 30.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: David was greatly distressed for the people's spake of stoning him.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: Who's people were they?
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: They were his people.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: They were his friends.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: They were his compatriots.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: They were his comrades and arms.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters, they thought their families had been killed and were gone, hurt people, hurt people we've talked about this before, but what to David do?
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: But the tail end of First Samuel 30 verse 6, but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: You say, oh brother Mike, you said you're not just going to tell us to give everything to God and prayer away through, I'll tell you what friend we're going to start there though.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: There may be some deep, seated emotional things, some mental traumas, some situations of the past that need to be talked through, but I guarantee you this, any counseling session worth anything starts with a word of prayer, or you'd be wise too.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: We encourage your friend, encourage yourself and God.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to talk to you, but better than talking to a man is talking to the creator of you, the creator of the world, the creator of the universe, and yes, the one,
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: who, in his providence, has overseen the issue you're dealing with right now.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: It may be a problem made by man's hands, but there's never been a problem that God couldn't fix for your good and for his glory.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: I want to thank you for listening in today.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to tune in tomorrow as we continue in this passage of First Samuel chapter 30 verse 6.
