- 0:05Speaker 1: Her organization, Charles Bruce Foundation, La Marsh and her table's
- 0:10Speaker 1: over there. So we have some tables if you want
- 0:12Speaker 1: to learn more. If you want to be a homeless person,
- 0:15Speaker 1: you'll bring a gift card there and are you'll send it.
- 0:19Speaker 1: She will tell you the details. Okay, thank you all.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Hey there, everybody having fun. That was the best sound
- 0:35Speaker 2: check I've ever heard. I don't know about the rest
- 0:37Speaker 2: of you, but what an enjoyable time. I want to
- 0:40Speaker 2: thank Paul. He's so amazing. He's putting this whole show
- 0:43Speaker 2: on and it makes your head swim. My name's Paul LaMarsh.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I'm a volunteer for the Charles Bruce Foundation, a nonprofit
- 0:49Speaker 2: organization that champions the arts and the artists who make them.
- 0:53Speaker 2: We sponsor social justice action programs, and we're happy to
- 0:57Speaker 2: be here supporting Paul and sharing this with all of you.
- 1:02Speaker 2: The Charles Bruce Foundation has a booth right over there.
- 1:06Speaker 2: As he said, please drop by and say hi. You
- 1:09Speaker 2: can learn how artists advocate for people whose daily needs
- 1:14Speaker 2: go unmet. Consider helping us or letting us know how
- 1:17Speaker 2: we can help you. If you're somebody who needs help,
- 1:21Speaker 2: we want you to come and tell us about it.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Nearly fifty million people in America do not have food.
- 1:28Speaker 2: They don't have adequate food. Paul invited me to attend it.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Even though what we work with mostly is homelessness, it
- 1:35Speaker 2: goes hand in hand with food and security. Another ten
- 1:40Speaker 2: million people or so do not have safe, stable place
- 1:43Speaker 2: to lay their heads, which often translates to an inability
- 1:46Speaker 2: to prepare low cost meals or regularly access a restroom.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And you know, when you're trying to get a restroom
- 1:52Speaker 2: in Times Square, you really want to have one handy.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So we're collecting gift cards. If you've got a gift
- 1:59Speaker 2: card for a fast food joint or some low wonderful
- 2:02Speaker 2: local lunch counter, please drop by. You can pick up
- 2:06Speaker 2: a postcard that'll explain the whole program to you if
- 2:08Speaker 2: you don't have a gift card with you. We also
- 2:10Speaker 2: have free copies of the books Humble Pie, which is
- 2:13Speaker 2: about how people experiencing food insecurity actually have to scrap
- 2:17Speaker 2: together to feed themselves. You can pick up a free
- 2:19Speaker 2: copy of the book while supplies last, and then at
- 2:23Speaker 2: this event we are going to pass out bigift cards
- 2:26Speaker 2: that we've already collected to people. That makes these people
- 2:30Speaker 2: customers and when you're a customer and a restaurant, you
- 2:33Speaker 2: can use the restroom. And there's no greater gift you
- 2:37Speaker 2: can give a person experiencing homelessness than access to a
- 2:39Speaker 2: toilet and a place to brush their teeth. We've got
- 2:43Speaker 2: palm cards taken with you. And one last thing I'm
- 2:45Speaker 2: asking going to ask the tech people if they can
- 2:47Speaker 2: roll a video and you can see what we do
- 2:50Speaker 2: and what we will be doing on December twenty first
- 2:54Speaker 2: in Stuyvesant Park, a little bit south of here. On
- 3:00Speaker 2: t twenty first, Homeless Remembrance Day, we are bringing our
- 3:02Speaker 2: annual Memorial Blanket Project to Stuyvesant Park. Each year we
- 3:06Speaker 2: create a massive display of handmade blankets. Only handmade quilts, Afghans,
- 3:13Speaker 2: if you knit, crochet, quilt, weave, if you're a fiber
- 3:17Speaker 2: artist of any kind, please consider donating one of your
- 3:20Speaker 2: handmade blankets to us. We will add it to the exhibit.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You can bring it yourself on December twenty first. That night,
- 3:27Speaker 2: the blankets will be folded and delivered to a person
- 3:30Speaker 2: who is cold, which is just an amazing thing to
- 3:34Speaker 2: do for someone. There's more info at our booth, so
- 3:36Speaker 2: you could go to Memorial blanket dot org. I'm gonna
- 3:39Speaker 2: get out of here now because I old singer dance.
- 3:42Speaker 2: But thank you all very much for your time, and
- 3:44Speaker 2: thank you Paul.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Thank you Pat, Charles Bruce Foundation, and for other good
- 3:54Speaker 1: work that you do. Remember they're going to be doing
- 3:57Speaker 1: something in December their Blank's and if you want to
- 4:01Speaker 1: contribute to help the homeless. They brought a real interesting
- 4:06Speaker 1: point up in that if he gives a homeless person
- 4:10Speaker 1: a gift card, one they can go and use it
- 4:13Speaker 1: for food, but they also potentially can use it for
- 4:16Speaker 1: a bathroom also in some restaurants. So it's a good thing,
- 4:21Speaker 1: it's a wise thing.
