- Speaker 1: Yeah. Speaker 2: This week on Full Credit to the Noise, Kimi Antonelli makes history, George Russell has no excuses, and Mark Marquez is made of granite. Welcome to Full Credit to the Noise. Well, hello, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and welcome to Full Credit to the Noise. You can find this podcast on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook at FC T T N Podcast. You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, Blue Sky, and Facebook at Former underscore legend. You find the bike across me on Twitter at AVL underscore motorsport. He's on Instagram at AVL dot motorsport. He's a man who this week announced himself as the new sergeant at arms of Australia's first outlaw e-bikey gang. He has been recently ranked number four in the world for Zumba And tonight he's wearing a minor ten Larkham Racing Polo shirt. Welcome to Speed Cafe's Andrew Van Lewen. Speaker 1: Thank you for my I do live in the right part of the world to join some sort of bikey gang, so I may as well do take the environmentally friendly path, I suppose, and ⁓ and go for the e-bikes. And if if I don't have any Mida ten Larkam racing polo shirts, but I do have a Mida ten Larkham racing racing car if anyone wants to buy it. ⁓ I tell you what you should never ever do, and this is something that I've ⁓ I've learnt the hard way, is advertise a one hundred and twenty thousand dollar racing car on Facebook because ⁓ it just doesn't go great to be honest. I don't know that that's the r quite the right pond to be fishing in for buyers. You do get a lot of swap offers and they are not good. Speaker 2: No good. What are they good ones? What have you tell what you've been offered to swap? Speaker 1: A lot of dirt bikes. I tell you what, a lot of people a lot of people think they're dirt bikes ⁓ worthy of a swap with a formula holden once raced by Mark Larkin that's worth more than a hundred thousand dollars. This is not I don't own this car by the way, so before we get into I know you like to joke about ⁓ my immense wealth. Speaker 2: Special dud boy. He does. Speaker 1: Which doesn't exist, but I'm th I am selling this on behalf of ⁓ of someone else. But ⁓ yeah, someone did offer me a co a V eight Commodore and was like, Wow, it's got like two more cylinders than the one you're selling. So like why wouldn't you get on board with this? So it's ⁓ I can't I can't remember. ⁓ it's I've had a lot I get a lot of messages from people. Speaker 2: Model Commodore. You take a w ⁓ you to you take a genuine walk and shore for it. You'd swap that clean. Speaker 1: ⁓ yeah, maybe. I don't think this is what this plate was offering. I don't think he even had a Commodore. I think he saw the car and went. This will this would be a fun ⁓ message to send. So I didn't realise that ⁓ that marketplace fishing was quite the sport that it is, but ⁓ let me tell ya, it it's ⁓ it's real. Speaker 2: I tell you what, I know where I'm getting straight on, straight after this show. I'm gonna set up a Facebook account in Perth and Speaker 1: I assume me even saying this is only gonna make it a billion times worth it. Speaker 2: So if you are interested, ⁓ and don't be don't be shy if you've got something you think you could swap. I mean there's you never know. You just might break the wall down and get yourself a genuine Larkham formula it's a formula holding, isn't it? Yeah. Brilliant. Get get one of them because no no ⁓ no swap's too big, no swaps too small. So Speaker 1: Yeah. It's it's it's got to the point where some poor bloke is actually gonna try and buy the car and I'm just gonna tell him to F off straight away because I'm just I'm just so sick of it. Anyway. Speaker 2: mate, I I don't know whether you told me, I told you, someone told us both about this Facebook page and I don't I mate, I I've been loath to talk about it only because I don't want to give it oxygen. But did you wanna tell people the name of the Facebook page we're talking about? I've got it. Aussie Supercars, it is. And it's ⁓ it's got forty-eight thousand followers, right? It's had ten posts in the last two weeks. It's on Facebook. Now, can I just say, if you can look at this for longer than ten seconds and not detect that it is just absolute AI fluff and bullshit, then I I if you if you think this is news and it's real and Speaker 1: Absolutely walled. Speaker 2: Trust me, the comments underneath some of the stories would suggest that people do think it's news and it's real. Yep. You should not breed. You are too stupid to breed people. So please, if you're reading this and putting comments on, don't don't have kids. We don't need your type. It Speaker 1: It really is wild that this stuff exists in any world, let alone the supercars world, but it it really does. And like you just g I'm just actually looking at it right now. You go, there's like Brock Feeney's like surprising some single mother with Speaker 2: Did you notice that that story also applied to to ⁓ to Kistecki about th a month before and then Cam Waters two months before? It's the same story. Speaker 1: Can't order us. Craig Lowndes is accusing Brock Feeney of cheating. Speaker 2: But that's at the Goldco six hundred, which hasn't happened yet, which is astonishing. Speaker 1: ⁓ Brock Feeney's visiting hospitals. Yep. But there was one I I I did actually ⁓ I was texting Brody about this the other day 'cause it he just seems to be every second one's about Brody, although Brock's getting a pretty big run here as well by the Speaker 2: They know what they're doing with clickbait. They're not they're not putting the ⁓ nothing personal, but they're not putting the Job Stewart's of the world in the nearly Speaker 1: Well it must I I'm guessing there's it's all just literally AI. Like it's it's AI top to bottom in terms of recognising the algorithm. You know, there's a David Reynolds, Scam Borders, Craig Lowns, and then Brock Feeney and Brody getting a massive run, just the the biggest sort of names ⁓ kicking about at the moment. But ⁓ I did text Brody and was like, Have you seen some of this stuff? And there was one I hadn't actually seen it, but one about him being like terminally ill. And he was getting messages from people saying, like, Are you okay? Like, what's going on here? And it Speaker 2: You're saying it would have explained the weight loss? Is that what you're saying? No. Speaker 1: No, no. But it's like yeah, it's crazy when it reaches when this stuff that's so obviously wrong gets to a point where people are believing it and reaching out to the people that are being targeted by this AI stuff. ⁓ yeah, just don't Speaker 2: You know my favourite one? Which one? Brock Feeney has absolutely blown the Aussie Motorsport I'm we're reading this word for word. Blown the Aussie Motorsport world away by donating his entire fifteen point nine million dollars in prize money and sponsor earnings to build a hundred and fifty homes for the homeless in Brisbane. ⁓ believable. ⁓ Speaker 1: It is nice of him. I mean Supercast doesn't have any price money structure, but still that's ⁓ Speaker 2: And we all know that he's worth far more than fifteen point nine, let's be honest. That'd be asteroid change for Brock. But yeah, yeah, somehow fifteen point nine is building a hundred and fifty homes. Nothing personal. They're shitty homes at the fifteen point nine million to be honest. But ⁓ I've I decided because there's another one here where it says young Australian supercar driver Brody Kastecki was unexpectedly interrupted during a live TV broadcast by activist Greta Thunberg. Speaker 1: That's pretty good. Speaker 2: Right. Speaker 1: I think I did see her at Christchurch. I reckon she was there. I thought I saw her at the paddock. Speaker 2: I've decided I'd write a couple of s stories for them. So th feel free to use these if you want. David Reynolds goes one step further and lets a ten year old make a wish kid drive his race car around Bathurst. Here's a good one for you. ⁓ Aaron Cameron set to fight in charity boxing night against Aaron Love. That'd be good. And my best one, Will Brown accidentally admits he's trip that Triple Eight are using four wheel drive in the new Mustangs. So feel free to use any of those because they're along the lines of what I've read anyway. Speaker 1: Yep. And it's always ⁓ so and so said fifteen words that stun the sport or something like that. Just bizarre. I can't I'm I'm honestly looking at it right now and it's like like Brody Kastecki's dad is beating down on David Reynolds in one of these things. Absolutely. Yep. Speaker 2: It's just And sorry, we I think we said before it's ⁓ called Aussie supercars. ⁓ just looking at it, it's auto action. So ⁓ we'll go to Speaker 1: No, it's not. Speaker 2: Alright, let's go to the shift cut because we'll talk about the Monico Grompri. ⁓ Speaker 1: Alright. Speaker 2: ⁓ And ⁓ yeah, well, let's t talk about it because ⁓ Monaco Grand Prix, which is a tradition in my house that we sit up and we watch both the qualifying and the race, or as I like to call it, Winton by the Sea. And qualifying on Saturday, which I I'll put readily put my hand up and say I was concerned that the new make up of the cars with the fifty fifty power and electric thing would b sort of jeopardize one of the great sessions of the year. Well it didn't because Yeah. Under s all sorts of apparent pressure, championship leader Kimmy Antonelli snatched poll from Max Verstappen in easily the most entertaining session of the year so far. Third was Lewis Hamilton, ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc. Isaac Hadjar was next, which is a mega effort for mine, from the Hall Monitor, who had no speed on Friday or Saturday, and then the two McLaren's who likewise weren't fast for most of the weekend. Did you watch it and what did you make of it? Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I did definitely watch it and it was ⁓ it was awesome. And I guess it was something that we did talk about last week as and you did flag your concerns around ⁓ whether it would be the spectacle that we need it to be, because it is the Monaco Grand Prix. Like qualifying is actually the highlight of the Grand Prix weekend in Monaco because of how hard it is to pass there. So it was a legitimate concern, but obviously the Just the the high harvesting ability there, some of the tweaks they made to the technical rules for that weekend alone meant that it was a fantastic qualifying session. ⁓ which is great because it's exactly what that race really needs. So it kinda gives some confidence that, you know, these rules aren't perfect, but with the right kind of tweaking they can kind of work as well. So, ⁓ it was yeah, an awesome qualifying session and probably the point at which you really needed to sit back and go, This Antonelli kid's pretty good. Like he's pretty good. Speaker 2: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, I want to get to that after we talk about the race because I've got a question that I want to pose to you. But let's start with the race. And I don't know where to start, to be honest, because well Max didn't start, let's be honest. He didn't get off the line starting from second, which was a shame because it would have been interesting just to see whether he could have put pressure on the Mercedes ⁓ and push strategy, but probably not is the quick answer to that, given the speed that Antonilli showed. ⁓ so Max didn't get off the line, Lando broke down. Strahl went into the wall at the final corner, then Sharl went into the same wall. Then the FIA realised the track was broken up with ten laps to go, much like it was at Bathurst in twenty fourteen. So they red flagged it and they needed Russell Crowe from a Beautiful Mind to figure out the order after half of them ⁓ caught penalties ⁓ for speeding in hit lane ABL, which is something else that was crazy. Amongst it all though, Kimmy Antonelli basically hosed them. He he started the race twice, plus a safety car restart, all three times. He held his own and took off like a scalded cat. ⁓ and after five wins in a row now, that is, Antonelli's the first Italian to win five consecutive races since Alberto Ascari ⁓ in Ferr for who in Ferrari in nineteen fifty-two. George Russell finished in thirteenth. He's now sixty-six points behind his young teammate after copping a penalty for speeding in pit lane. Then he claimed he served the penalty, which was five seconds, whilst double stacking. That was astonishing that he was even trying that one. ⁓ then he copped the drive-thru for not doing the five second penalty. ⁓ surely no one upstairs believe him when he said that he he served the penny while he was double stacking. I mean that would be what a rule that would be ⁓ moving forward. Yeah. ⁓ Lewis Lewis Hamilton got back to back podiums with Ferrari for the very first time. Isaac Hadger was third despite a post race investigation and despite him screaming over the radio for the best part of thirty laps saying that his engine was a dud. ⁓ Oscar Piastri went through all the mayhem to finish fourth. Liam Lawson, absolutely stellar fifth. Five drivers got pinged for speeding in Pitt Lane. I mean, yeah, no questions there. But let's go back to Kimmy and let's remember he's still just 19 Aviol. No driver in Formula One history has won five Grand Prix in succession in a year without winning the World Championship by the end of it. ⁓ Meanwhile, his teammate The hall monitor, he looks genuinely rattled in my opinion. But I want to ask you one thing. What will this year's Monaco Grand Prix or how will it be remembered? Speaker 1: ⁓ that's a good question. ⁓ I think it'll be remembered as a fairly interesting race for a Monaco Grand Prix because we know that the layout there, as treasured and important as it is, has its challenges from a racing perspective. ⁓ but Yeah. But I think that ⁓ it was definitely a standout. Like if you didn't believe in the Antonelli hype before this weekend, it's impossible to ignore. Like Speaker 2: Very diplomatic. Speaker 1: He is now this we're not even talking about a Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri kind of seesawing title battle anymore. Like he's so far gone that it's almost impossible to imagine. I don't think anyone's ever come from that far back to to beat someone in the world championship, which is incredible. ⁓ five race wins on the bounce. This is the sort of dominance we expected from Mercedes. It's just not the driver we expected to be. Speaker 2: Yeah, good point. Speaker 1: Yeah. Like this this is now there's nothing surprising about the fact that Mercedes is is is unbeaten so far this season, but the way that it is unfolding is incredible. Like it's absolutely incredible. And it's just yeah, this kid has just you think back to his first win five races ago where, you know, his dad, Toto Wolf, who's kind of his I guess his F1 dad, they were all on TV saying like Don't get excited. Like this is great. He's taken the fastest car in the field and he's turned into a race win. It's awesome. ⁓ but he's gonna have ups and downs because he is a nineteen year old in his second season in Formula One. Let's not get excited. But like five races later, he he's basically got got the title sewn up. Like it's just it's remarkable. It's remarkable what he's done. And ⁓ Speaker 2: Yeah, I I I I think we'll look back at this and we'll think if he does win, which right now you gotta say, like I I know only a round ago we were saying let's not get ahead of ourselves and George is still, you know, in and ⁓ in there and and and ready to go. But I just I I can't see George doing it and that I know I don't want to I don't want to put the mocker on the bloke because I I'd love to see this kind of thing Remember when Tiger Woods started off and it was just amazing watching his kid just own own the golf world and this is gets similar. Like he is absolutely handing them all ⁓ their arse, including his much accomplished teammate. Get this, this is something else I heard today. If he wins one more Grand Prix or wins the next Grand Prix, he is equal with George Russell on the amount of Grand Prix won in their careers. That is astonishing. Speaker 1: Yeah. It is. It definitely is with how quick that car's been. And obviously we kinda came out of Canada with a little bit of a I I guess Canada didn't feel overly damaging to George even though he didn't score there because he was the quicker of the two and it felt like there was a reestablishment of the natural order. Still coming from a long way back in terms of a points deficit, but that, you know, there it it felt like that even though we'd lost so much ground That DNF in Canada, that the glimmer of hope in terms of pace was there. But then this weekend he just was never anywhere near Kimmy. Never couldn't touch him. So Yeah. So that kind of and there's all this talk about, you know, is it driving style and and you know, there was some talk from George about the fact that, you know, maybe last year's car is well the well the problem is that you know George has won won races this year as well. So Speaker 2: And was mystified too. Yeah, generally mystified. Can't have that idea. Speaker 1: Like it's not like it's the car can't work for him. He's just it it is a circumstantial thing. It's not that Kimmy is ⁓ head and shoulders better than George Russell at driving Grand Prix cars, right? Like it's just th these things do kind of build up and they do it's all these circumstances that kind of fall into place to either go For you or against you when you're trying to fight for a championship. But there's no doubt that everything's just falling in place for Kimi Antonelli. And he is doing the job and he's not suffering under the pressure. He's just getting on with it and doing it. And it's hard to imagine how he doesn't become world champion in his second season from here, which is you know, something quite incredible. Speaker 2: What do you make of George at the moment? Because everything I've seen, ⁓ that as a bloke just rattled. Speaker 1: Definitely. Well you would be, right? Like you've finally you've finally got to a point. And and and I can see how George would feel a bit crappy having come into that Mercedes system at a time when ⁓ the car just went off the boil when those new rules came in in twenty twenty one, was it? Or yeah, twenty one. ⁓ so he'd kind of missed the window of jumping in the fastest car in Formula One. Had spent all these years sort of battling away with a car that was the second or third or fourth quickest car, depending on the weekend or the season or whatever. Finally, you know, a new rule set comes along. We know that's where Mercedes excels. He's got the world championship winning car. And the opportunity, like, as we sit here in June, is basically gone for him to win the world championship. Like that must be devastating, right? Astonish. And this this this this kid that that he should by any measure, even if he is the next Eton Center or whatever. at this point in his career should be someone that, you know, George can cover off with the fastest car. And like he's bolted. He's he's down the road. The the job's done. So ⁓ Speaker 2: It's very hard butt to feel sorry for him, mate. I mean even I remember there's a quote from him saying that if he got to Mercedes years before instead of having to do his apprenticeship at Williams, he probably would already have w at least one title. It's like, ⁓ yeah? How's that working out for you this year? Because Yeah. Y you know, it's not that easy, mate. You just can't say those things. And You know, w we we've famously called him the Hall monitor, which would be fantastic if we never got back to him. But i he's just I I and I know that's not a popularity contest, but he's genuinely unlikable. Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, no, I think that's a that's a fair take and I don't think you're alone ⁓ in having that opinion of him. Yeah, I did see something about and I'm always wary y just to you know, circle right back to the to the ⁓ AI kind of weirdness on the internet conversation we were having before. I'm always when I see stories out there with quotes apparently from people I'm a bit wary these days about whether they're real or not. But I did see some reference to, you know, if I'd got to Mercedes two years earlier I'd Would have won a couple of world championships and it certainly does make beating Lewis Hamilton seem a lot easier than it probably would be, to be perfectly honest. Because whatever opinion you have of of Lewis and what he wears at the track and how he's going at whatever forty something years of age he is like I I put the bloke in a really fast race car and I reckon he's pretty tough to run down. So ⁓ it's a nice I guess you can extrapolate ⁓ George can extrapolate on the fact that he did outperform Lewis in a car that wasn't overly competitive, but you kinda there's just so many other factors that are built around that in terms of the motivation for the driver and and you know, someone who with seven world championships who was coming off the back of that sort of twenty twenty one debacle, you know, that would that would take any athlete some sort of some time to get over and it's it's easy to extrapolate, well, I could have beaten this bloke so easily. But I don't know that it would have been that easy in a race winning car, if I'm perfectly honest. So th that sort of stuff, if if he did say that, that does that does make it difficult to really get on the George Russell popularity train for sure. Speaker 2: What about as they're starting the race the first time? Literally as the cars are just climbing off the start line and as the lights have turned green, Lando's daubing him in for being outside the box. It's like as we're pulling away. By the way, George was outside of his box, he should be penalised for that. It's like wow, the worm has turned. It is absolutely turned on him. And again, not that I'd be ever cheering for Lando, but I'm like, Yeah, well done. Well done. Yeah. Because ⁓ I think even the other drivers must know. what it what what he's about a lot of the time around ⁓ George Russell's about. So yeah. Look, it it's it's fantastic to watch. And I'm like I said before, I I've always been a fan of these phenomenon in sporting history. And I've been lucky enough to see Mike Tyson at his peak of ⁓ you know Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, ⁓ and if Kimmy Antonelli becomes the you know, one of the of those types of of operators, then it would be a privilege to have watched him because at the moment he's quite exciting to watch And extremely likable. Extremely likable from everything I've seen. Speaker 1: I did think you were gonna say the two thousand five West Tigers there for a moment as well. But ⁓ Speaker 2: I think starting to think that might have been an anomaly after yesterday, but anyway. Speaker 1: It might just have been. ⁓ but ⁓ but yeah, you're right. No, it's it's ⁓ as I said before, if you if you weren't convinced and I've taken some convincing with Kimmy Antonelli. Same like I I I have taken some convincing, but you just you can't look at that performance like that crux lap in in in qualifying to get pole, which is basically a ticket to the top step of the podium. ⁓ Speaker 2: Yeah, right. Speaker 1: Two having to do two standing starts, something that has been his Achilles heel this year and nailing both of them, like you can't doubt him anymore. He can do it. Like he's there. He he's there and he's he's ready to to to claim this world championship. Speaker 2: Hats off the hats off to Toto too because he's stuck solid amongst a lot of pressure about is this kid the second coming and everything else and and yeah for him to now see the fruits of his labour sort of coming to fru you know coming to the fore is it it's good to watch. Yep. ⁓ in F three, just while we're there, James Wharton from Australia returned back to racing in the sprint race. He ran twenty-second, but he had a huge stack at ⁓ in practice on Thursday at the swimming pool. I don't know whether you saw it, but who that went in pretty hard. ⁓ in the feature race he finished eighteenth. Obviously it's going to be tough starting from where he started. ⁓ other news around the Monaco paddock Ferrari team principal Fred Vasur missed Monaco Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday after being taken to hospital Avial. The Scaderia confirmed that he was okay, but he was kept under observation at a local medical facility after viewing Kim Kardashian's cleavage. Mate, did you know Kim Kardashian was there? Speaker 1: I did pick up on that along the ⁓ along the weekend. Yep. Speaker 2: Yeah. I I seen her a couple of times and w we'll talk about it later, but jeeze. ⁓ Speaker 1: I don't know if it's ⁓ actually I ⁓ you might I don't know if you've got this on the rundown somewhere else, but the the grid walk before the race. Martin Martin's grid walk, was it the most uncomfortable viewing you've ever watched or was it genius? It's dividing opinion at the moment. Speaker 2: Jesus No, it nine out of ten times for mine, it's car crash television. And it's almost like I can't watch but I don't want to look away kind of thing. It's it's Speaker 1: It is. I don't know why he agrees to do it. I like I don't I don't like it just Speaker 2: Do you think it's an ego thing? Speaker 1: I don't know. I I I honestly don't know. Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's like a normal human being would say, if you don't mind I might skip that, ⁓ Speaker 1: Because I don't I like I I I like that it exists because it can be just so funny like it was on Sunday night. But if I was Martin Brundle, I just don't understand why he doesn't just say, guys, this is just like stupid I don't want to put myself in this position. It's like Neil Crompton walking around and people not knowing who he is and there being massive confusion over whether they should or shouldn't talk to him. Like it's this weird game of jeopardy of like will Speaker 2: Yeah. Speaker 1: Will this person like engage with this? I don't know, just ⁓ to to me it it it kind of like if that's the voice of your sport, why put him in a position where people are either gonna ignore him, not know who he is, whatever. Like it's just it actually doesn't work for anyone except the people sitting at home going, This is absolutely amazing car crash T V. Speaker 2: The only time it's good for mine, and maybe this is because I am a genuine motorsport fan, is when there is someone there that is famous that actually has a knowledge and a and a love for the sport. Then it's like, this is great. This is fantastic to hear. But for the most, like, I don't know who the lady was who said to him, I'm not here for an interview. It's like, well, mate, nothing personal. What the fuck are you there for then? Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. No, I totally agree. And it was like I think it was Brad Pitt a couple of years ago, obviously when they were doing the F one movie, but was standing there like reciting like Martin's Le Mon finishes back to him and it's like that's heartwarming. Like he's someone who is like they may not love the s yeah, but he's obviously invested enough in what he's been doing ⁓ to know who this person is, what they've done. sort of that's that is something that that you kind of Speaker 2: Yeah, he's an acronymite. Speaker 1: Yeah, it does make you feel good, but a lot of it and particularly a lot of the one on Sunday night in Monaco you just went, Ugh, I don't feel great about this. I can't stop watching it, as you said, but I don't feel great about it. Speaker 2: Speaking of car crashes, Oscar Piastri became the unlikely star of a viral Formula One moment after he w appeared to be locked out of the Monico Grand Prix. in footage posted X, the McLaren star can be seen chatting with security after his accreditation pass seemingly failed to grant him access to the exclusive paddock carrier. ⁓ the awkward exchange only became funnier for fans when security personnel appeared unconvinced that they were dealing with one of F1's best drivers. A guard was seen s ⁓ speaking to Walkie Talkie before Piastri is eventually escorted away from the entrance to another entry point it is assumed. Mate, nothing personal against Oscar, 'cause I love I love the just low key attitude of him, but he was dressed like his dad. Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I didn't actually say that I d I knew nothing about this until I saw you on the rundown. But ⁓ yeah, you're right. He doesn't if you didn't know, he doesn't ooze Formula One megastar, does he? Like that's just not his not his vibe. Speaker 2: And even them not r letting him in, it was almost like he was gonna go, I'll go home, I suppose. He wasn't he wasn't pushing it at all. He's like, All right. now this story I know will warm your heart. A frustrated Fernando Alonso has bemoaned the current iteration of Formula One cars. He said, This is probably the worst generation of cars I've ever driven in Monaco. The way you charge the battery with the braking and lifting off and things like that obviously creates a lot of inconsistency into the engine braking of the car. Sometimes you have less, sometimes you have push, sometimes not. It's just the rules. Hybrid cars should not be racing. It's as simple as that. Aston Martin's deficit on the timesheets at the end of Friday practice was alarming. Cadillac was. one seven eight seconds faster, and the next closest team, Racing Bulls, at that stage enjoyed a half second margin on the shortest track of the season. Do you feel sorry for Fernando? Do you think he had a point? Speaker 1: I always feel sorry for Fernando as ⁓ keen listeners of the show will know. But ⁓ yeah, I mean it's everything's political with Fernando. Like he says everything everything he says has a purpose. It has a he has a plan. ⁓ he has a point he wants to get across and ⁓ if you just look at how slow they were, obviously they kinda salvaged something out of the weekend eventually, at least on his side of the garage. Not Speaker 2: Got a point. Speaker 1: For Lance, yeah, not for Lance, who ended up in the war because of this kind of engine breaking issue. And it was quite funny that even in the in Lance's post race ⁓ interview, well, not post race, because it was during the race, because he crashed out of the race, but you know, like they were kind of talking about that surface breaking up at the last corner there. And he was like, Nah, that's not an issue. Like it was just the engine breaking, just slammed me into the wall. Speaker 2: Gut feel? I don't think he'd know. Speaker 1: It's yeah. Yeah. So it was obviously a very ⁓ sort of ⁓ it's a point that those drivers are trying to make about the car and anything could have happened. Like he could have looped it four times and like backed it in the wall and he would have said the engine brake and push me into the wall because it was the same point Fernando was going on about. So they've at least ⁓ they've at least got on the same page in terms of the story they're trying to tell. Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven, but a long term future ⁓ depended on ongoing support of local authorities as well as the casino organizations who premises line the strip. After they all came together, the race will now remain in Las Vegas until twenty thirty seven. ⁓ not excited. Speaker 1: I just wish they'd make it a day race. I just honestly Speaker 2: I don't think you would. I think you look like a shithole. Speaker 1: No, no, I d I disagree. I think it would look amazing. I think it would look so much better as a day race ⁓ than it does as a night race. I just that's what gets it for me. You just it it it it doesn't matter if you're in Jeddah or Singapore or Las Vegas once you got those lights on. Like it just it just makes no difference. I think like racing in the desert on the Las Vegas strip, like it would look amazing in the daytime. So that's what just gets me just gets me about it. I just the the timing of it just It doesn't look good. It doesn't Speaker 2: Maybe a race from sunset into the dark. From sunset into the dark, maybe. Maybe that'd work. That'd look all right. Speaker 1: Why not just in the day? Like it would look so cool. I'd love to see those pictures of Las Vegas like that. Like I th I think it'd be incredible. But ⁓ the track lights drown out the sort of lights of the strip anyway. So you don't get you d you just don't get the impact of it. You just that's true. It it looks dull. It actually makes Yeah, it i it it kind of like if anything, it doesn't make me want to go to Las Vegas. I just go, like that looks pretty underwhelming. Where I'm sure if you're there and you don't have these Speaker 2: Like a tunnel, all right. Speaker 1: really powerful lights trained down on their on the circuit. You look around and go, ⁓ this place is absolutely amazing. Speaker 2: Give them one thing, the dome looks pretty cool. Speaker 1: Yeah, that does look cool. Yeah. But that could look cool during the day as well. Like every number that looking cool during the day. So Speaker 2: ⁓ closer to home, Red Bull is set to showcase a Ford Mustang Gen three supercar at an upcoming Driftmasters event in Ireland. When I think Driftmasters events, I think Ireland ABL. ⁓ the appearance of the Australia. Speaker 1: Closer to home, I think, island as well. What are you talking about? It's miles away. Speaker 2: Well it's a it's a home built car, it's just going for a little bit of a drive. ⁓ the appearance of the Australian machine has been announced by Red Bull Island ahead of the June thirteenth, fourteen event. Interesting to see who drives that. ⁓ round three of the Driftmasters ahead is set to take ⁓ place at Mondello Park. ⁓ then the car which has been built by Dick Johnson Racing, let's not forget, but wrapped in ⁓ Red Bull livery, is then set to go to the famed Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK next month. Have you ever been the Festival of Speed? Speaker 1: No, I've been to the Revival. I have not been to the festivals but Speaker 2: Really want to go, man. Yep. ⁓ that that is a bucket list. There's about four events coming up in the next month that every year, I think. That's another year gone that I haven't gone to ⁓ so. Yep. ⁓ and finally, Supercars could open its twenty twenty eight season with back to back rounds in Western Australia with a Perth doubleheader on the table. Barclay Netifold revealed to Speed Cafe that two weekends of racing in the West is very much on the table. Interestingly, the double header plan doesn't necess necessarily mean the season would open with the Marquee street race event. with a Wanneroo opener followed by Perth Park in Burzwood possible. I near included this 'cause I know it was covered off on the news ⁓ potty. But one question is this going to be if this is this happens, right? Are we talking about in place of another round or is this an additional round of the calendar? Speaker 1: ⁓ there was no real clarity around that, but you would think that given the fact that Barclay sort of talks about that fifteen, sixteen rounds as being the optimal amount, that it would be to join the calendar, not to replace something on the calendar. Because he wants Philip Island on there as well. And that could be on there as soon as as next year. So ⁓ that could be two additional rounds on top of what we've got right now. ⁓ but I also just don't actually kind of see how it works, as we did discuss on the news podcast in in great detail. But I could certainly see that if you're gonna open the season in twenty twenty eight with the Perth Street race, that you have the preseason test at Wannaroot midweek. you know, or early in the week before that happens. So I think that's something that could work and you'd probably get a half decent crowd for a test. Remember, that's obviously a d very different metric to the crowd you want for a race. But you would probably get that out there. You know, people would go out there to watch the testing before the the street racer. So that makes sense, but given the fact that, you know, that that event does not struggle for crowds. That's an unfair sort of representation of of the crowd numbers there, but it's not like yeah, it's it's it's not a struggle, but it just is what it is, effectively. And what it is is decent but not overwhelming. So when you put a big shiny event much closer to the Perth C B D and therefore much closer to the southern suburbs of of Perth in place and like what's that gonna do to the crowd you're already getting to the other one? Like it's just gonna absolutely kill it. So Yeah. It it at two race events I I would love to say, Yep, let's do it, how cool but it just makes no sense to me. Speaker 2: Yeah, I I don't get it myself and I was surprised when it came out. ⁓ even Warburton's thing of a ten day festival of speed, I never understood that ⁓ plan either, to be honest. Like it just seems like a lot of carry on. ⁓ all right, let's go to Kerwe's Nozzes overseas. IndyCar at Illinois, ⁓ Alex Pilow strangle hold on IndyCar continued, ⁓ with a rapid two lap average in qualifying to take pole position. Scotty McLaughlin was fifth, Marcus Armstrong sixth, Scotty Dixon was seventh. ⁓ Will Power struggled to be twenty-first. In the race, though, Penskey's Joseph knew nothing. ⁓ returned to the top step of the podium with his sixth indie car career win. Scotty McLaughlin was fifth ⁓ from where he started basically. Marcus Armstrong dropped to ninth. A late pit stop killed off Scotty Dixon's hope for a win ⁓ put him back to twelfth, and Will Power bounced back from twenty-first on the grid to run eighth. ⁓ Nascar, Shane Van Gisbergen qualified thirtieth for the cognitive test two fifty at Michigan Speedway. ⁓ the best of the track house racing trio he was ahead of Ross Chastain in 32nd and Connor Zilich in 34th out of the 37 cars. They're not much good trackhouse, I'm thinking. ⁓ in the race, ⁓ SVG found himself an innocent victim of the mid-pack male. the race was ultimately won by Denny Hamlin, his second straight NASCAR Cup series win, tied him for ninth on the all-time wins list with none other than Kyle Bush, which was quite a poignant moment at the end of the race. ⁓ Moto GP from Holland. Mark Marquez comfortably won the sprint race after his recent return from double surgery on the right on his right leg and his right shoulder. Let's not forget. ⁓ second was Pedro Acosta, who said Mark Marquez's bike from behind had grip levels that were on another world, which is quite strange to understand. Given that he'll be on the same bike next year. Maybe Pedro should just shut up for a little while and just be at rum with it, I reckon. ⁓ in the Grand Prix Aprillia boss, Massimo Rivola, did not have many nice things to say about his champion rider, Jorge Martin, after he triggered a pile up in Hungary that took out three of the top of the four April's in the field on the first corner of the race. He went through ⁓ like a wreckin' ball. Did you see that? Speaker 1: I didn't but I'm still sort of grappling with the fact he said Moto GP from Holland 'cause I'm pretty sure it was in Hungary over the weekend, wasn't it? Speaker 2: Mate, I do that all the time, hungry and holiday. What's the difference by the way? Speaker 1: Well, wooden shoes or I don't know I don't know what there is in ⁓ in Hungary to be honest. But ⁓ yeah, cleave that in Grant. That's Speaker 2: Yeah, leave that. I know, I don't mind. Mark Marquez won again from Pedro Costa. Well, Jack Miller profited from the Jorge Martin bowling ball. He run ran eighth on and was the first Yamaha. The point score for the title has Marco Bazecchi leading the twenty twenty six Moto GP riders championship. He was taken out in that first ⁓ lap crash. ⁓ he's on a hundred and eighty points, he's followed by Jorge Martin with a hundred and sixty points. Fabio D G Antonio is on a hundred and thirty-eight points. Acosta's on hundred and thirty two and Mark Marquez, despite having a couple of races off, is on a hundred and eight. Surely, AVL, he couldn't win from there, but I tell you what, I'm I'm here to see it if he if he can. ⁓ Speaker 1: Yeah, but I never never write him off or anything, to be perfectly honest, like what I'm Speaker 2: He's such a warrior. ⁓ Moto 2, Senator Agius qualified third in Moto 2, and that's exactly where he finished for another strong ⁓ weekend. Moto 3, Joel Kelso from Australia qualified 10th, but finished 12th. And finally, Leopard Racing Rider Adrian Fernandez, who they they run in Moto 3, by the way, it's not just his leathers. ⁓ He's been excluded from the opening six races of the Moto 3 season after two of his engines showed a sign of tampering. ⁓ in two separate reports on Friday afternoon, head of the Hungarian Grand Prix, you're right, it is Hungary. ⁓ the stewards noted that the two Honda engines belonged to Fernandez Bike had been opened without authorisation. Which I suppose shows it's true what they say, AVL. A leopard never changes its spots. Speaker 1: Very good. Very good. Speaker 2: Stick around for more of that stuff. ⁓ we'll go to a break and we'll come back with Undersarovers. Speaker 1: Full credit to the noise. Speaker 2: Winter could spell bad news for your vehicle's battery. Here are three maintenance tips from the battery gurus at RNJ Batteries. 1. Avoid frequent short trips to keep your battery at a healthy state of charge. 2. Keep the battery terminals clean and corrosion free. 3. Avoid running your accessories with the engine off for too long. If your battery is three years or older, it might be time to get it tested for free at your local R<unk>J batteries. R<unk>J Batteries Power like nothing else. Yeah, welcome back. I thought this week we'd do a bit of unders or overs, AVL. I'm just gonna give you a number. You tell me whether you think it's under or over ⁓ the likely answer. Number one. Under or over one and a half years left in Formula One for Liam Lawson. Speaker 1: He I'll go overs because he went from facing almost not starting that race to his best F1 finish. So ⁓ it would be a weird time to to sort of ride his part out of the sport, to be honest. So I'll go over. Speaker 2: I feel like they might keep that line up for ⁓ that team ⁓ for the next year at least. I think it's it's a pretty good combo. ⁓ so I think yeah, Liam will be in the sport for at least one more year, two I'll say yeah. I'll say yeah more than more than one and a half. Under or over. One and a half ⁓ more Bathus one thousand starts for Craig Lyons. That's from our very own Jordan Malik. Speaker 1: Ooh, it's a good one, Jordan. I would say I think he'll do Well, he'll do two more. So Ofus. Mm. Speaker 2: Okay, I'll go with that too. Speaker 1: He'll get the he'll get the retirement Bathist. Like he's not just we would know about it if this was his last one. So it's gotta be at least two more. Speaker 2: Heard a great story about a proposed ⁓ pr probably about two years ago who they wanted to stick in his car with him, and it would have been massive news. But anyway, we'll talk about that off air because I'm not sure I was meant to meant repeat it. Next one. Under or over three point five more Grand Prix before we get to see both Lando and George tear up. And that's from Cheerdog in the Discord. I don't think Lando I think Lando's pretty comfortable with where he's at looking yeah just listening to the way he was talking. Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't I I I think just where they're at as a team, I don't know that the pressure is kind of anywhere well obviously it's not anywhere near like it was last year when they're fighting for a world championship. So I I think I think Lando and Oscar are both pretty comfortable just kind of letting their seasons play out and sort of picking up the scraps when they're there to be picked up, but then accepting when things don't go their way. So ⁓ I don't think Lando's gonna have any sort of dummy spitting this year. ⁓ but as we've discussed, like yeah, pretty immense reputational damage to George for missing this opportunity to win a world championship. Speaker 2: This is one in a similar vein. Under or over two and a half Grand Prix before we see a live broadcast of George breaking down over getting absolutely beat down by Kimmy. I know that's that's from Will on the Discord. I know that's ⁓ said with a bit of humor, but he has got form of of ⁓ getting a bit Speaker 1: Yeah, I like like I think that ⁓ I think that George will still win a bunch of races between now and the end of the season. Mm. Like I don't think that he's like he's not gonna continue to the law of averages doesn't suggest that he'll just continue to be beaten by Kimmy in this way. The problem is that he's sixty something points behind the world championship. Yep, so sixty Yeah, so I think he will win some races and that's all well and good. Speaker 2: Six yeah. Speaker 1: ⁓ and that'll make it hard for there to be any sort of public outpouring of frustration if you're holding a big trophy. But yeah, that's kinda not the point anymore. Speaker 2: No. under or over fourteen point five the combined number of brain cells in the entire field of Isle of Man competitors. That's from Josh Harris. ⁓ that's easy unders, but Speaker 1: Yeah, it feels like one of those like it's true but you sh should you really say it sort of scenarios. Speaker 2: Mate. Did you like it's lots of footage on on Instagram, especially in in reels and that. Yeah. Just I I know we never stop saying it. Just insanity. Insanity. And I'm there for it. The the the world is a better place that we're still allowed to do things like that. If you elect to do that and that's what you want to do, mate, more power to you. Get on there and entertain me. ⁓ under or over six point five, the number of championships Kimmy Antonelli wins before retiring. It's from Steve R. Steve R come up with c a bunch of good ones, so I've included a few of his. Speaker 1: Yeah, that's really interesting. ⁓ because Yeah, yeah. And and I I I guess the what muddies the waters at the moment is where that Mercedes car advantage sits. Like, is he winning the championship because it's Mercedes to win and he's done a great job to beat George Russell? Or is he winning the championship because he is this incredible, potentially record breaking kind of prodigy? And remember that Speaker 2: He's only nineteen. Yeah. Speaker 1: You know, like rookie ⁓ sorry, Lewis Hamilton almost won the championship in his rookie season, right? So i it's kind of one of those things where you can come in and have early success, but then the opportunities to win championships swings away from you, but people understand how good you are, and then that swings the opportunities to win championships back to you because the team that can win the championship signs you up and says, We need this guy. So it's There's just no guarantee that winning one early means that you're gonna roll in and win the next ten. but yeah, it's certainly it's pretty impressive what he's doing, as we've touched on. And ⁓ it doesn't mean he's gonna break any sort of records because the Speaker 2: No, no, no. Speaker 1: Bandage can swing away from you so quickly, but yeah, it's still amazing. Speaker 2: I'm happy to say unders because six isn't to be sneezed at. Like that's a lot of lot of titles. Speaker 1: That's I mean, yeah, that's that's unlikely anyway. That he gets to that number. Speaker 2: Yeah. Strength of numbers says no, that that won't happen. And like you say, it's ⁓ as much as ever, it's very it it's as much car dependent as it is talent, so Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, you just need both. Like you need to be good enough to be in the right team at the right time. So I never I never ever class it and this is where a lot of my Fernando Alonso criticism comes from when people say, ⁓ if you don't need the right cut. Well, like he did. And Lewis touted him up as a rookie. Yeah. And then he didn't because teams didn't see him the right teams didn't see him as the worthy driver to having their cut. Yeah. So that is actually a talent based kind of issue, right? So It's you just need both. You need to be so good that the right teams that can win the championship want you in their car. And whether Kimmy's at that level or not, we won't necessarily have the answer for that even this year, because it could be that all he's had to do is beat George Russell. Speaker 2: Yeah. I look, like I said, I I'm happy to say unders. If it's overs, I can't wait to watch. Yeah. Under or over one and a half, the number of additional championships Mark Marquez wins before retiring. Again from Steve. Speaker 1: Yeah, imagine. Whoa, you're probably better positioned to answer that. That is a as our extraordinary question GP ⁓ sort of expert, but I just I just put nothing beyond any good motor GP writer and Mark Marquez in particular. Speaker 2: Yeah. I look geez, it's tough, man. I'm gonna say unders. Yeah, geez, with no confidence. I I and I don't wanna say unders because I'm doubting him. I just think time catches up and again, d bike dependent, if he's not on the right bike then like he wasted so many years at Honda just carrying an absolute pile of shit. And throwing it thrown himself off it as many times as as he was finishing the thing in the end. So I'm gonna say unders and if it's overs I'll be happily surprised. ⁓ under or over two and a half the number of years it will take for a car that is not a silver arrow to win the F one manufacturers championship. Speaker 1: ⁓ I'd say it could definitely be unders. You don't know. I don't think the advantage is that insane. And the Speaker 2: Yeah, so last time this felt like this they went on a f a fair run. So Speaker 1: Yeah. Yep. But I think there's a better like that was that ultimate combo. Mm. Pretty much what I was talking about a few minutes ago. That you've got like they had Lewis Hamilton in a very good Mercedes and like it was just everything was just rowing in the right direction. ⁓ I think we got a bit better spread of talent among top teams at the moment. Like there's a bunch of drivers that are either world champions or capable of winning world championships and A lot of drivers that are Grand Prix winners spread among some pretty good teams. So I just think it's a little tougher than it was at the start of that la that you know, the initial hybrid regulations. ⁓ so yeah, I I wouldn't be surprised. You look at, you know, between well, Ferrari's an interesting one, but you know, McLaren, like there's some good teams and drivers there that that could win titles in the next few years as the rules settle down a little bit. Speaker 2: under or over one and a half years Reynolds has left as a full time supercar's driver. It's from Isaac Edwards. Speaker 1: Well, it's a pretty good question 'cause it's basically is Matt Payne going to team eighteen for next year after. So I don't actually I don't know. I don't know the answer to that. And I don't that's really what it depends on. It depends on the Matt Payne contract stuff, really. ⁓ there's kind of not too much Dave can actually do about his future, to be perfectly honest. ⁓ so yeah, I don't it's Speaker 2: Yeah. Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. I I I I do have a feeling that these contract things tend to reach a r a sort of resolution fairly quickly when certain terms are agreed to and that sort of stuff. So I wouldn't be surprised if there is some sort of outcome that sees Matt Payne at that team next season. I wouldn't be shocked by that. Speaker 2: Okay. I'll say under one and a half, but I still think he's got one more year after this one. So under or over one and a half years S V G has left at track house. Jeez. Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know enough about Nascar to know what the kind of scenario is. Like is he is is Shane on an upward trajectory and could go elsewhere? Is it that you know though I don't know. I honestly don't know. Speaker 2: No, I don't know either. ⁓ I'm hoping under. I'm not gonna lie. ⁓ I'm hoping he's got something else on in the in the makings. I did hear that he does have a possibility of a of a good drive. ⁓ I'll find out more. ⁓ under or over one and a half years, this is the final one, before Senator Agius has a Moto G P ride. I'm going all chips in on this A VL. I think he will be a Moto GP next year on a KTM. Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I'll go with ya. I'll go with you on that. Happy to have unders on that one. Speaker 2: Yep. ⁓ the funny thing is is his teammate in Moto 2, who's absolutely hose him at the moment, won again on the weekend. There's not a lot of talk around him coming up to Moto GP, which is yeah, tough to understand to be honest. But ⁓ yeah, I'll I'll have Unders. I hope he's there next year. ⁓ all right. Thanks to everyone in the Discord who did assist with that. We'll go to a break and we'll come back with rear of it. Speaker 1: Full credit to the noise. Speaker 2: Yeah, welcome back to Rear of Grid. ⁓ I tell you what, very busy in the Discord again last night. Made ⁓ the the it actually made the red flag period a little bit more palatable talking yeah, talking all things that were happening on the ⁓ screen. And also it ⁓ it ⁓ assisted me because I thought there was something wrong with my audio and on KO but no no, there was everyone having the same issue. So that was also Speaker 1: With the sweeping with the swapping between the feeds or whatever it was? Speaker 2: Not only that, there's this buzz all the way through it on the world feed. ⁓ it was terrible. KO, forty five bucks now. Come on. It's gotta be better than this. ⁓ Speaker 1: I take the I take the crafty feet just to rage bait you, if nothing else. ⁓ so I wouldn't know about these issues. Speaker 2: Yeah. Mate, if you want to punish yourself, that's up to you. You do that. No dramas. ⁓ you you're really having a laugh at my expense there. All right. ⁓ but if you do want to join the Discord, then you have to get on to FCTTN.com, follow the links from there, ⁓ to be a member, and you are we're given a code to get into the Discord. And like I said, on weekends like last night, I watched the Moto GP together, then we watched the F1s together. Speaker 1: We won't. Speaker 2: And you know what it's like to be a motorsport fan sometimes, ABL? It's fine to f hard f it's hard to find people to talk to about it. So this is a ⁓ ready made. Speaker 1: But we've had we've had members that have been at Fink this weekend sending videos and updates and like you're just so connected to Yeah. In Canada. Yeah, people in Canada. Yep. ⁓ like it's just it's such a cool way to be connected with a like minded people and be people that are out there doing cool stuff. ⁓ so it's definitely worth getting involved in. And and you're right, like nights like Monaco Grand Prix Sunday, that's when it just pays off massively. Because how much fun is it? Speaker 2: He had one at the Grand Prix last week. Speaker 1: To sit there and watch that race and just man, there were some hall monitor jokes kicking about. ⁓ yeah. Speaker 2: Yeah, there was ⁓ yeah, no, I won't say the joke that sort of had me ⁓ raise my eyebrows. But anyway, ⁓ all right, I'm gonna make a statement. Time for some credit or Shreddit's. You just tell whether you agree with the credit or disagree with the Shreddit. We'll come back after we've done all six. Number one, Ferraris and Red Bull's pace is actually bad news for George Russell, as now there is ⁓ potentially more cars between him and Antonelli while Antonelli is winning meet ⁓ GPs. Credit. Number two. Speaker 1: Credit. Speaker 2: Valtery Bottas won't be at Cadillac by the final race of twenty twenty six. Speaker 1: Reddit. Speaker 2: Reddit. Number three, we didn't talk about this because you spoke about a lot on the news show, but Marks gay's criticism of teammate Ian and Chev was low hanging fruit and nothing more than clickbait driven sensationalism. Speaker 1: ⁓ I'll go shred it on that one. Speaker 2: Credit. If the racing was mint and there was more of it, no one would give a hoot about which mark wins races. Loyalty to brands is dead in supercars amongst drivers, fans and teams. Speaker 1: Ooh. No one would care about what make it is. I'll go shred it on that. I sort of like where it's going, but I'll still go shred it on it. Speaker 2: All right, shred it. ⁓ number five. The fawning over Kim Kardashian in Monaco by the F one TV producer is nothing short of embarrassing to the broadcast and the sport in general. Speaker 1: ⁓ I'll go shred it. Speaker 2: Credit. Number six, Charles Leclerc has just signed with Ferrari. Charles Leclerc will never win a title at Ferrari. Speaker 1: I have to say credit. It's just so hard to imagine. Speaker 2: Credit, I agree. Alright, we'll go back. The pace between with Red Bull and Ferrari showing pace on the weekend, saying that, could be very track specific on that one, is actually bad news for George Russell. It could be good news too, but saying that, because if he does start winning, maybe there will be some casts between him and Antonelli. Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, maybe. But obviously any time that you don't win and your teammate does and you're not right behind your teammate, you know. Is going to reflect poorly. So ⁓ that is definitely and the gap was quite alarming across that Monaco weekend. Like George never looked like Geor i it was almost like George heard the pre weekend predictions that Ferrari were favourites and that, you know, like the Red Bull were gonna come into the mix and McLaren were gonna be right there and Mercedes were gonna struggle. And he drove to that narrative and Kimmy just went, nah, polled it, won the race. So that doesn't look good. Speaker 2: ⁓ it does not look good. It proved not to be good at all. ⁓ yeah, I mean, I guess it just comes down to the way the cookie crumbles over the next few weeks. Georgia needs to start winning, that's as obvious as the nose on my face. But secondly, it would be nice if that Red Bull and Ferrari Pace put a few put Antonelli back a few places. That's for George. I don't really care to be honest. I hope he doesn't do that. So ⁓ Bodass won't be at Cadillac I don't know if you have seen this. He actually had a crack at the paddock rumors ⁓ that he's facing an early exit and they're actually talking about bringing in Colton Herter from their reserve driver list. ⁓ but Bidas came out and said it's complete bullshit. I think he'll be there. Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he'll stay till the end of this season. I do think that Perez is showing him up a bit. He is I think that's a certainly is. I think that's a pretty fair statement. ⁓ but I don't think Bodass will lead before the end of the season 'cause I don't think bringing Herder I I can't sort of see the advantage to bringing Colton Herter in any earlier than that. Speaker 2: Yep. Was Mark Scaif picking low hanging fruit? Speaker 1: I don't I have some question marks over that whole criticism. I like that Mark did that. I think that's what that motor racing three sixty show where he made those remarks ⁓ needs. Like I think it's a really good thing, but I I I don't know that it was low hanging fruit. I don't think it's got anything to do with clickbait. I just wonder about the timing of it. The timing of it was very interesting 'cause it's kind of just came at a very odd time, which again as you Speaker 2: Yeah, so what do you mean by that? Speaker 1: Just on the Well, it's just like like team eight in were pretty good in Tassie. Like they had a good weekend. So to come out of the Tassie weekend and go, this is the time I'm gonna sort of send this sting bar into GM and team eight in ⁓ sort of felt a little bit ⁓ a little bit strange. So I don't know what's driving it, but I don't know that it's low hanging fruit because ⁓ it wasn't really, to be honest. Speaker 2: All right. no one really cares about ⁓ makes in supercars anymore. I said shredd it because there are some, but I think nowhere near the tribalism it used to be. Nowhere near Speaker 1: I think I what where the sort of direction this this ⁓ statement is going that I really like is the fact that if you make the product really good, you shouldn't rely on manufacturers and not rely on them to fund the sport and not rely on them to drive the engagement from the fan base, if that makes sense. Right? So you give yourself the freedom of whether there's some manufacturer support, no manufacturer support, your sport can just survive based on how good it is. So I love that idea and I fully believe in that. I think that's I I I certainly don't think an F one right now can sit back and go and they d that they the FIA is willing to say, Yeah, we probably got a bit wrapped up in trying to get Audi to come and play in our sport and we've sort of gone down a path with our regulations that isn't actually all that crash hot. ⁓ I think that you should always be trying to build a sport that manufacturers want to come to rather than a sport Because of the sporting products rather than trying to appease them in any other way. Like you shouldn't be begging them to be there. You should have a sport that's robust enough to exist without them. So if that was a statement, I'm a full credit, but I do think that people care about whether a Ford or a Chevy or a Toyota wins. So it's a shredder. Speaker 2: the fawning over Kim Kardashian was embarrassing for the sport and for ⁓ the broadcasts. Look, in some regard I actually get it, which annoys me I Speaker 1: I get it. I get it. It's Lewis Hamilton and Kim Kardashian in Monaco. This is modern Formula One. Like this is blockbuster stuff. Like this is what the sport needs. I don't Is it? I don't think it's in b yeah. Yep. Speaker 2: They for sport needs to fix their s fifty fifty power split is what they need to do. Speaker 1: Yeah, but what an amazing like attention. Speaker 2: I think Kim's there to do that. I don't like to hear Kim's take on on what she thinks the ICE devo ice side of the ⁓ the engine p ⁓ output compared to electric side should be. I'd love to hear Kim's take on that. That'd be fantastic. Speaker 1: But that's the stuff that we shouldn't be it's a it's a shame that we are focused on that stuff. Like that's the that's the issue. We should be we should be celebrating the fact that Yeah, that Kim Kardashian, you know, one of the most famous people on planet Earth, like takes an interest in a Formula One driver, let alone has a romantic relationship with one and comes to the races. It's actually a good thing. I know it seems naff and I know when you know we're talking to hardcore fans Speaker 2: Tim Kardashian say. Speaker 1: of motor sport, of all types of motorsport that are gonna disagree with what I'm saying. But that is the kind of Hollywood stuff that F one desperately does need and is actually really good for the sport. Speaker 2: If that's the case, do you think it would be outside the bounds of fair play for someone like Red Bull and Max Verstappen to invite Ray J to the next Grand Prix? Speaker 1: So one up. Speaker 2: Google that. ⁓ finally Charles Leclerc won't win a title at Ferrari. I horrible to say this. I don't see that he can. Speaker 1: I just can't see it. I just can't I can't see it happening. Like and it'd be one of those things where if they did just roll into a season and nail it and he did, it wouldn't be that surprising either. But it's so hard to sit here and say, Yeah, they're definitely gonna get their act together. Yeah. And win a win a championship. It's just such a difficult thing to get your head around. Speaker 2: Feel big. If you're using money to bet on Charlie Claire winning a title, you don't understand money. ⁓ I don't see it. I just don't see it. ⁓ Whisper of the Week, A VL. This is not a bad little whisper, this. Scotty Dixon could very well be on the move from Genassi. Someone tells me that the contract extension was offered, but Scotty knocked it back and there's another player potentially digging around to get Scotty on board. So there you go. I Speaker 1: Yeah it's yeah. Speaker 2: Like I said, from afar, I don't know how reliable this is, but it seems like it has a little bit of legs from the person who told me seemed to know a little bit about it. So yeah, watch that space. Num ⁓ the next thing is letter of the week. It comes from Huey on the Discord, Huey forty nine. I I he said this last week and I kept it. He says When discussing why drivers in supercars these days don't show the same amount of personality or willingness to be the villain that they used to, we usually hear that social media and clickbaity news sites are major reasons why. While I do have limited sympathy for this, no one ever seems to mention that NASCAR or even IndyCar drivers also deal with social media and news sites, but that doesn't stop them from talking shit about each other and leaning into rivalries. What makes Australia so different? Why have we become so timid while they have hardly changed? Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if I have a an answer for that, to be honest. I do think that the social media thing yeah, absolutely. They're a fantastic question. I do think that the social media thing does heavily affect ⁓ you know, the the behaviour of drivers ⁓ and their willingness to be controversial because they know that there is this very clear pathway that of feedback for for their behaviour, you know, whether it's in the sporting arena or whether it's in, you know, on the broadcast or whatever. things they say. ⁓ which is a shame. it's probably the worst of the kind of social media age. At the same time, drivers love selling products and marketing things through their social media channels. So it's sort of one of those double edged sword situations to some extent. But I don't think the clickbaity news thing's a massive issue, to be honest. And I'm obviously I'm biased in saying that, but ⁓ you know th there is that that AI thing that we spoke about at the top of the show, but that's completely disconnected from what anyone actually does. So like, you know, it's not none of that is built around the actions of these people. ⁓ we will pick, you know, if someone posts something on socials or says something or whatever, obviously we'll pick it up and turn it into a story if it's if it's worth doing so. ⁓ but I think it's the direct feedback from the fan base that can come straight into your social media feed if you are a supercar's driver is what is what kind of ⁓ does drive this ⁓ kind of timidness, I guess. So yeah, I d I I I don't know why it's a it's seemingly affected supercar drivers more than other categories. I don't know if that's the case even, but it is certainly, I think, a a major contributor to the behaviour of the ⁓ of the supercars drivers. Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's a shame in many regard and you do need an enemy and a bad guy and a villain ⁓ in every sort of fight. And I don't know that we have anyone that matches that. I guess the only one I can think of, and I don't think it's his own choice, is but I think some of the fans paint Brock as the villain. I don't think that's actually fair or or right for a lot of it. I I I don't think he he he warrants that. Speaker 1: He kind he kinda gets that Jamie Wink up style, ⁓ like tall poppy villain sort of thing. Like he's just driven and good and him winning does kinda get boring because of the w just way he goes about it. And I don't mean that in c as criticism in absolutely any way. But it is something that kind of doesn't always sort of excite the fan base and then they turn someone into a villain because They don't want them you know, like Jamie's copped more flack in his life than he should ever have copped. Like all he ever did was just be diligent and win a whole bunch of championships and races, more so than anyone else in the history of the sport. But you know, that kind of puts you in a position where you do end up as the villain. So I think that's sort of Brock's the Brock's position to some extent, but ⁓ yeah, that's sort of then we got you know, good Ryan would be the villain. Yeah, there's sort of this narrative around him doing it and then Brody can be the villain. And Chase can be the villains from what we've seen this year, like the most amazing things can happen. Speaker 2: Yeah, what I thought Brady until Greta Thunberg got the better of him and then he's just gone to water, so all right, that'll about do us with this episode of full credit. Don't forget you can find the show on all the socials at FC T T Podcast. You read AVL's excellent work over at speedcafe.com, where they break all the big motorsport news first.
