- 0:01First Corinthians chapter one. Let us pray our Lord God
- 0:10Almighty, the Father of everything seen and unseen.
- 0:14Lord, you are the banner, you are the healer, You're the great
- 0:20Physician, you are the provider. Father, you see you are the Most
- 0:28High, God, you are our breath, you are our everything, You are
- 0:35life, and God, we love you. We love you with our whole
- 0:40heart. God, help us to love our
- 0:43neighbors as our self. Father, I pray in the name of
- 0:47Jesus for a supernatural filling today.
- 0:51God, I pray in the name of Jesus that you will make us more like
- 0:55Christ today than we were yesterday.
- 0:59Father, I pray that you'll give us eyes to see this world all
- 1:03around us the way that you do. Everything that is moving in
- 1:06accordance to Your Holy Scriptures got all the
- 1:09prophecies that are unfolding before our very eyes.
- 1:13God, I pray that you'll give us the eyes to see, Lord, that you
- 1:17are moving mightily, and God, you are bringing everything
- 1:22under your lordship, under your command.
- 1:27Father, we pray for a hedge of protection around our families
- 1:30and houses. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 1:33that you will help us, Lord, to be filled today, overflowing.
- 1:38I pray in the name of Jesus that we'll receive healing from on
- 1:41high for our mortal bodies. God, heal us, Jesus, heal our
- 1:48marriages. Bring the prodigals home.
- 1:50God, I pray for a peace that surpasses all understanding.
- 1:55Father, I pray, Lord Jesus, you'll be well pleased with the
- 1:59reading of your scripture. Father, I pray you'll bless us,
- 2:02God, as we bless your holy name. Father, we love you.
- 2:06King Jesus, it's all about you. King Jesus, it'll always be
- 2:10about you. King Jesus, Holy Spirit, you
- 2:13come and you teach and you guide.
- 2:16Hide me and hide my words and hide my thoughts.
- 2:19I decrease as you increase and it's all about you.
- 2:22King Jesus, we love you and it's in your holy and precious
- 2:25powerful name that I pray. Amen.
- 2:31Well, let's start in verse one. Paul called to be an apostle of
- 2:38Jesus Christ through the will of God and Sosthenes, our brother.
- 2:45So here we can see that Paul wanted to make sure that he laid
- 2:49out the credentials before he employed the correction that
- 2:55this early church desperately needed.
- 3:00They were in a very idolatrous Pagan city that was filled with
- 3:05sexual immorality, with idol worship.
- 3:09And Paul knew that this church needed to be disciplined and
- 3:15corrected. And we need to understand that
- 3:19correction does not equal rejection and that God
- 3:23disciplines those that He loves. It proves that He loves us
- 3:27whenever we are disciplined, friends, and we reject it and we
- 3:31don't like it and we run from it and we call it all kinds of ugly
- 3:35names. But in the end, friends, you
- 3:38will look back and you will see that it was producing in you the
- 3:41character that you desperately wanted.
- 3:43There is a wise saying that the job of a coach is to make men do
- 3:53what they don't want to do so that they can become what
- 3:56they've always wanted to be. And that is what God does with
- 3:59us by and by, when he disciplines us and makes us
- 4:02disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 4:05And if we are relying on our carnal feudal instincts, we will
- 4:11run from that discipline. But God knows that we
- 4:14desperately need it, and we need not run away from it.
- 4:18We need to take our stripes, and we need to grow harder and
- 4:22stronger and more resilient friends.
- 4:25And we will see the character of Christ exuding from us if we'll
- 4:29stay in the fight and not run from it.
- 4:31Charge the hill, put on the full armor of God, be clothed in the
- 4:36armor of light, friends, and dispel all darkness to unto the
- 4:42Church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are
- 4:46sanctified in Christ Jesus called to be Saints.
- 4:51With all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus
- 4:55Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours.
- 4:58So here very interesting. Lee Paul calls these carnal
- 5:02Christians who are backsliding into their flesh.
- 5:07He calls them Saints and you can see that the grace of God is
- 5:11something that we are in. It is not something that we grow
- 5:15into. We are in grace, not growing
- 5:19into grace. Friends, the moment that you
- 5:21place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, He makes you holy.
- 5:25All of your sins are covered. And then beyond that is this
- 5:29process of sanctification, which is just being made more like
- 5:33Christ. And a lot of us are stuck in
- 5:35suspended animation because God has disciplined us.
- 5:39And instead of us acknowledging it as what it is, which is
- 5:44pulling out all of the impurities, we have ran away
- 5:48from it. We didn't want to stay in the
- 5:53church leadership. We wanted to do our own thing.
- 5:56And we rebelled against a holy God who was bringing about the
- 6:01character that He desires for all of eternity.
- 6:04And what did we do? We went and tried to become an
- 6:06island all on our own, friends. And that is not God's way.
- 6:10He desires for us to be in community.
- 6:12He desires for us to be submissive to the leadership
- 6:16that is above us, friends. And none of us are exempt from
- 6:20discipline. Even the pastor at the very top
- 6:23of the church, he will be disciplined.
- 6:26There is a another judging of him that is separate from the
- 6:31judging of those who are not in teaching positions.
- 6:37Friends, that is what you need to know.
- 6:39There is a heaviness when it comes to spirituality.
- 6:42It is not a thing to be taken lightly, Friends. 3 Grace be
- 6:49unto you, and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus
- 6:54Christ. You can see that grace always
- 6:57precedes peace. You cannot have peace unless you
- 7:01have experienced the grace. And grace is just a free gift.
- 7:05But we must open it, friends, and the gift cost him
- 7:09everything. And once you are covered in the
- 7:11blood of Jesus Christ, you will experience peace that comes from
- 7:15the knowledge that none of your sins will ever be counted
- 7:18against you. For I thank my God always on
- 7:22your behalf, for the grace of God, which is given you by Jesus
- 7:26Christ. Do we actually thank God for
- 7:30those that He's put in our life? Or do we just tongue in cheek
- 7:33say that we're going to pray for them and we don't?
- 7:36Friends, let's up our prayer life today.
- 7:39Pray in the spirit, Friends. Walk in the spirit.
- 7:43Friends, pray without ceasing. Friends five that in everything
- 7:48you are enriched by Him, in all utterance and in all knowledge.
- 7:54There is no riches available to us that could ever exceed the
- 7:58knowledge of knowing where we stand, that we are at one with
- 8:03God through his Son Jesus Christ.
- 8:05That is what you're going to find. 6 Even as the testimony of
- 8:09Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you come behind, and no
- 8:14gift, waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 8:18He's going to call us up into the air to meet him there in the
- 8:21clouds, and there we will be with him forevermore.
- 8:26At the sound of a trumpet, the voice of an Archangel, in a
- 8:30moment's notice, we will be called up and raptured to be
- 8:35with him forevermore, this coming of the Lord, And then the
- 8:39whole world will see him as he comes back, and we will be with
- 8:43him. Eight who shall also confirm you
- 8:47unto the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord
- 8:51Jesus Christ. So that is what it looks like
- 8:54whenever we are ushered into the presence of God is in the only
- 8:58way that we got there was because of His innocent life
- 9:01that He lived, and then He imputed that righteousness unto
- 9:05us. And we can be made right and be
- 9:07made at one with God Almighty. Friends 9 God is faithful by
- 9:13whom you were called unto the fellowship of the Son, Jesus
- 9:16Christ our Lord. When you finally get the
- 9:19blinders taken off, and when your ears get unstopped,
- 9:22friends, and you get to view and to peek and to peer into the
- 9:25celestial realm, friends, it is your undoing.
- 9:29You will be undone, friends, and you will finally understand.
- 9:33But until that, the carnal mind cannot understand the celestial
- 9:37things, friends. And if you're trying to explain
- 9:40it to somebody, or if anyone who is listening to this doesn't
- 9:44understand what I'm saying, it is perhaps because you have not
- 9:48fully received the Holy Ghost and you are not walking in the
- 9:51spirit, friends. You're still in the carnal mind
- 9:54and the fleshyness of your life, these earthy Ness of your life,
- 9:59friends. And until you finally get the
- 10:01blinders taken off and you can peek and appear into the
- 10:04revelation of Jesus Christ, you will understand that everything
- 10:09on this earth pales in comparison with that reality
- 10:13that you get to see into. We get to have fellowship with
- 10:18Him. 10 Now I beg you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus
- 10:27Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no
- 10:31division among you, and that you'd be perfectly joined
- 10:35together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
- 10:40So that is what you need to understand is there needs not be
- 10:44division when it comes to salvific issues.
- 10:48If we have preferences, that is one thing.
- 10:51Some people enjoy one type of worship and some people enjoy
- 10:56another. Some people enjoy getting
- 11:00dressed up and some people enjoy coming to God as a father and
- 11:08you what you need to understand is those preferences are not
- 11:12salvific. They are not of the most utmost
- 11:15importance of how to be saved, but Jesus Christ said, I am the
- 11:19way, the truth and the life, and that no one comes unto the
- 11:22Father except through me. And we cannot divide over those
- 11:25issues, friends, you cannot divide if Jesus Christ is the
- 11:29only way. 11 Friend has been declared unto me of you, my
- 11:37brothers, by them which are of the House of Chloe, that there
- 11:42are contentions among you. This Chloe was going back and
- 11:46forth from Corinth to Ephesus, and perhaps there was some trade
- 11:53that this household was involved in that necessitated the travel.
- 11:58But they were able to bring news of what was going on in Corinth
- 12:02to Paul as he was pinning this letter.
- 12:06And he is going to admonish them that there should be no
- 12:10division, no discord, no contentions amongst them, that
- 12:14they need to be of 1 accord and one mind, the mind of Christ
- 12:19brands. 12 Now this I say that everyone of you says, I am of
- 12:25Paul and I am of Apollo's, and I have Cephas and I have Christ.
- 12:3113 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you, or
- 12:38were you baptized in the name of Paul?
- 12:44Look at how there was such a division there.
- 12:46Some of them thought that they could stand on the rock of Peter
- 12:50where the church was being built in the gates of hell would not
- 12:53prevail. Some of them were trying to call
- 12:56upon Paul, this super apostle, this ambassador for him that was
- 13:02chosen on the road to Damascus and actually got to commune with
- 13:06Jesus Christ for three days as he unfolded all the plans for
- 13:10him as he traveled off into Arabia to get all of the
- 13:14doctrine that he had. And they're trying to say that
- 13:18they were attached to him some for Apollo's because he was a
- 13:22strongman of faith in their community.
- 13:27And what they needed to understand is that Christ is not
- 13:30divided. It is Christ and it is Christ
- 13:32alone. Friends, Christ and Christ
- 13:34crucified is what we uphold. 14 I thank God that I baptized none
- 13:43of you but Crispus and Gaius. 15 unless any should say that I had
- 13:47baptized in my own name. 16 And I baptize also the household of
- 13:52Stephanus. Besides, I know not whether I
- 13:57baptized any other. 17 For Christ sent me not baptized, but
- 14:02to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, unless the
- 14:08cross of Christ should be made of no effect.
- 14:13There it is, friends. That's the whole crux of the
- 14:15whole matter of the whole situation.
- 14:17It is Christ, and it is Christ crucified that we preach.
- 14:21And it is not by little silly jingles.
- 14:26It is not flash and show, friends.
- 14:28It is the simplicity of the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ
- 14:34that we could never be made right with God until Jesus
- 14:37Christ came and lived an innocent life and died a
- 14:40criminal's death and was crucified heinous criminal's
- 14:47death. He was beaten and stricken for
- 14:50us, but by his stripes we are healed, friends.
- 14:54And because of his bodily death and his placement in the tomb
- 15:01and on the third day being resurrected from death back to
- 15:05life, friends, as he went down into Abraham's bosom and
- 15:10unlocked that and LED a procession out of that place,
- 15:14friends. And you need to understand that
- 15:17He made a triumphant parade around all the evil demonic
- 15:21hosts to show them that he had the keys.
- 15:23And as he appeared to many after his resurrection and ascended to
- 15:28the right hand of God to go and make intercession for you and
- 15:31for me to go and prepare a place for us, friends.
- 15:35And this is ignorance to the carnal mind, friends, which
- 15:41we're going to see in the rest of this chapter, that they
- 15:43cannot receive such simplicity that they want to work their way
- 15:48into heaven. And they want to know why it is
- 15:51that we think that our way is the only way.
- 15:54And how come out of all the religions in the world, we think
- 15:57that we have some kind of corner on how to be made right with God
- 16:01and about the everlasting eternal life after this one,
- 16:05friends, and I need you to know, I need everyone who has ever
- 16:09been born, will be born or is born today.
- 16:13And who will ever hear this is that Jesus Christ is the only
- 16:17way. He is the only atonement for our
- 16:19sins. He is the only covering for our
- 16:22sins. There is no way unto the Father
- 16:24except through Jesus Christ. 18 For the preaching of the cross
- 16:36is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which
- 16:40are saved it is the power of God, that is the power of the
- 16:45cross of Christ, Golgotha and Calvary.
- 16:48Friends, what you need to understand is that during this
- 16:52time this would have been foolishness to them, because it
- 16:55was not even allowed to be spoke of amongst people of any kind of
- 17:01reputation. This was a heinous way to die.
- 17:05It would be the equivalent of trying to preach somebody who
- 17:11got shot at a firing squad. It would be the equivalent of
- 17:15trying to preach somebody who was drawn and quartered.
- 17:18It was the equivalent of somebody who had to suffer at
- 17:22the electric chair. Friends, this is foolishness to
- 17:25the carnal mind, but for us who are saved, we understand of what
- 17:30was happening on the cross whenever the sky turned black.
- 17:35Friends, in the earthquake ripped open everything, and the
- 17:38veil was torn from top to bottom.
- 17:41And we have access to the holiest of holy places because
- 17:44of what Jesus Christ did. 19 For it is written, I will destroy
- 17:50the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the
- 17:54understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise?
- 17:57Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this
- 18:00world? Has not God made foolish the
- 18:02wisdom of this world? That is what you need to
- 18:05understand. It is if you were to put all the
- 18:08intellect of all of the human race from the beginning of time
- 18:11until now, and even all of the generations after us, Friends,
- 18:16you will come to find that it is only a fraction of a percentage
- 18:23of the knowledge of God. He is orchestrating everything.
- 18:29The very fabric of your DNA. Friends, you need to understand
- 18:34that you have the mind the size of a soda can and even all of
- 18:39the knowledge of the world from the beginning of time until now.
- 18:42All of the knowledge that is encompassed in all of our
- 18:46computer programming can never outsmart and outwit and outpace
- 18:51God Almighty who put it all into existence.
- 18:54Friends think about it 21/4 after that in the wisdom of God,
- 19:02the world by wisdom knew not God.
- 19:04It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save
- 19:08them that believe. So that is what you need to
- 19:10understand is the more learned you get, the more desperate you
- 19:18become because you will try to explain God away.
- 19:23And he says unless you have faith like a child, you shall
- 19:25not enter the Kingdom of God. And that is what you need to
- 19:29understand. Those that are trapped in
- 19:32academia, those that are trapped by their degrees is what you
- 19:39need to understand, is that they marveled that these unlearned
- 19:43men understood more than they did when it came to the great
- 19:48magnitude of the knowledge of God.
- 19:50And we must empty ourselves of ourselves, this great
- 19:54impartation that God is well pleased to fill us with His
- 19:57knowledge when we will stiff arm all the things of the world and
- 20:01what the world is trying to sell us.
- 20:03Friends. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greek seek after
- 20:13wisdom. 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a
- 20:19stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness.
- 20:23Think about it. Here is this carpenter's son who
- 20:30came into the world as a peasant, who was born in a
- 20:34Manger in a feeding through friends, and you can see that
- 20:39the shepherds were the first to know, and then the magi.
- 20:46It was the fisherman first, and then Paul, the Pharisee of the
- 20:51Pharisees. God always introduces the most
- 20:54profound things to the unlearned because that is His way and that
- 21:00is what you need to understand. To the Jews, Christ crucified
- 21:04was a stumbling block because they did not want to admit that
- 21:07they murdered their Messiah, but it pleased God to crush him.
- 21:12And to the Greeks, who were so steeped in all of their Stoic
- 21:17thought processes that these Greeks and their philosophy, it
- 21:22was foolishness to preach a Jew who was killed and murdered at
- 21:28the hands of the Roman officials, it was foolishness.
- 21:3524 But unto them, which are called both Jews and Greeks,
- 21:43Christ, the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
- 21:47So that is what you need to know, those that are chosen and
- 21:51predestined before the foundations of the earth, as God
- 21:54calls them unto himself. He is well pleased to reveal the
- 21:58mysteries that are shrouded and clouded from the carnal mind,
- 22:02friends, And what you'll need to know that it is the power of God
- 22:06and the wisdom of God is all encompassed in Christ Jesus. 25
- 22:12because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the
- 22:19weakness of God is stronger than men.
- 22:23Think about it, friends. He is the only uncreated, and
- 22:27you're going to try to tell him how to behave and that he needs
- 22:30to be moral in all of his ways, or else you cannot believe in
- 22:34him. You think by railing and raging
- 22:40that you're going to somehow throw off the chains of
- 22:43conviction. It doesn't work that way. 26 For
- 22:49you see your calling, brothers, how that not many wise men after
- 22:55the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called. 27 But
- 23:00God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound
- 23:04the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to
- 23:09confound the things which are mighty.
- 23:11God can use a college dropout to school all the universities and
- 23:19all of the agendas of the doctrine of demons.
- 23:25He can use a college dropout who just goes and places himself in
- 23:30the middle of it all, and he can use that weak vessel to confound
- 23:35all of the demonic host. And because of this confounding,
- 23:44it will make the demonic so angry that all they can do, just
- 23:49like Jesus Christ, is try to silence them through death.
- 23:53But the blood of the martyr is the seed of the gospel.
- 23:57And you will see that God's plans for all the ages are only
- 24:01brought about by this being pushed down into the earth,
- 24:07friends. And what you are going to find
- 24:09is a harvest. And we need workers to go out
- 24:13into that harvest. Friends, I pray that that is
- 24:16your story. You cannot outpace God.
- 24:22And what you need to know is the devil is getting played. 28 In
- 24:31the base things of the world, and the things which are
- 24:34despised, has God chosen. Yeah, and the things which are
- 24:38not to bring nothing, things that are. 29 that no flesh
- 24:45should glory in His presence. The only glory that we have is
- 24:51the glory given to us by God when we put on this armor of
- 24:55light, friends, we're not going to be able to glory in our own
- 24:59strength. We're not going to be able to
- 25:01glory in our own wisdom. Friends, you can know the Bible
- 25:05front to back, you could read every page, but if you are not
- 25:11indwelled with the Holy Spirit, there is no glory.
- 25:14And all of that head knowledge, friends, and there will be many.
- 25:18We stand and say, Lord, Lord, we cast out demons in your name and
- 25:23perform miracles in your name. And he's going to say, depart
- 25:28from me. There will be many who are left
- 25:31behind when the church gets raptured, and they will have to
- 25:36come to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, and not
- 25:40just in their own wisdom and academia.
- 25:45We will not be able to glory in our flesh. 30 But of him are you
- 25:53in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us, Wisdom,
- 26:00righteousness, sanctification, redemption will end on 31 That
- 26:06according as it is written, he that glories, let him glory in
- 26:13the Lord. That's it.
- 26:17Friends, if we'll come to the Lord Jesus Christ, honestly, He
- 26:26will be well pleased to show us that all the scriptures from
- 26:30Genesis to Malachi and all the Scriptures from Acts to
- 26:37Revelation point back to Him. In all of His words, from
- 26:44Matthew all the way to John, you can see that everything points
- 26:49to the Gospels and the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 26:53And that is where you're going to find sanctification and
- 26:57atonement and justification. That is what you're going to
- 27:01find. Redemption.
- 27:02When you were bought with a high price.
- 27:05It cost him his very life. It cost him the communion with
- 27:10God that He had shared from the beginning of time His only
- 27:14begotten and God turned friends. And that is what grieved Jesus
- 27:20Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane more than any of the
- 27:24brutal torturing that many martyrs have gone to their
- 27:27death. Happily.
- 27:30It was not that Jesus was afraid to die, it was that He had
- 27:34shared this beautiful communion with Father God and He was going
- 27:38to have it taken away as He took on all the sins of the world.
- 27:42But if you'll come to him honestly, every single one of
- 27:45your sins that you have ever committed, all the sins you are
- 27:49committing, and all the sins you will ever commit are forgiven by
- 27:55the blood of Jesus Christ alone. There is no at one meant with
- 27:59God without the blood of Christ. I pray that you have been bathed
- 28:07in the water, not just dunked in water, that you've been bathed
