- 0:38Music.
- 0:48She's a happy girl,
- 1:03So often, we get discouraged and offended by the actions of other people toward us.
- 1:08We find ourselves with hurt feelings because we didn't get what was rightfully ours.
- 1:13Perhaps we were overlooked for a part, a position, a promotion, or an award.
- 1:19These are all things that, when they happen, our flesh not only feels badly,
- 1:23but also wants to retaliate, push back, and even sometimes get even.
- 1:29But when we take the time to look at all that Jesus endured and take his words
- 1:34to heart, we see that these kinds of injustices are nothing more than a ploy of the devil,
- 1:40an obstacle meant to trip us up, and are minor compared to the glory we will
- 1:46receive as we run the race with patience and let our light shine.
- 1:50Join us in this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries as Kim takes us on a
- 1:54journey through the scriptures, revealing the hope of Jesus to carry us through
- 1:58our trials and make us victorious.
- 2:01Hold on. The King is coming.
- 2:05Hello, and thank you for joining us in this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries.
- 2:10As we begin to think about what it's like when Jesus said to us in Luke chapter 9 and verse 23,
- 2:19that if any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
- 2:28When we begin to think about what that means, it helps us a little bit to understand
- 2:33the things that happen in our lives.
- 2:37The Bible says that a man is born of a woman and a few days full of trouble.
- 2:43We live in a world that is desperately wicked. Who can know it, the scripture says.
- 2:49We live in a world where we are not to be friends with the world.
- 2:54In fact, he says that to be friends with the world is to be an enemy to him.
- 3:01He was pretty clear when he said that following me was going to cost you.
- 3:06You'll have to daily choose me, and you'll have to daily choose a cross to bear.
- 3:14Yet at times, when we are in the midst of trouble, turmoil, abuse,
- 3:25just injustices happening to us, we often look more at the event that's taking
- 3:34place than the grand plan that Jesus has for each of us.
- 3:40And in jeremiah 29 11 he's clear that he has a plan for us to prosper us and
- 3:45to give us a hope it's a good plan that he has for us in romans 8 28 he says
- 3:51that we know that all things work together for the good to them that love the
- 3:54lord for them that are called according to his purpose.
- 3:58All of those things when we're not being berated when we're not being overlooked
- 4:02when we're not being shoved down in a box and put over in a corner make perfect
- 4:08sense But the practice of walking through those moments of unfairness,
- 4:16those trials and temptations, those events of hurt, the practice of walking
- 4:24through with your eyes fixed on Jesus is what we as Christians must do.
- 4:30If we're going to carry out that commission in Matthew 5, 16,
- 4:36which says that we need to let our light so shine before men that they see our
- 4:42good works and glorify our Father which is in heaven.
- 4:46Peter often was a person who found himself in situations, but he's the one who
- 4:52tells us, look, it's easy to love when everything's going well.
- 4:58It's easy to do the right thing when everyone around you is doing the right thing.
- 5:04But the hallmark of integrity, even the world knows this, is doing the right
- 5:09thing when no one is watching.
- 5:12And true Christianity, a person who is sold out to Jesus Christ,
- 5:17who's placed their faith completely in him,
- 5:21truly is the only person who can walk in the midst of trial,
- 5:27endure pain and affliction, and give Jesus the glory,
- 5:33and continue to live in his joy all in the midst.
- 5:38Now, as humans, I think we probably slide all over that rock.
- 5:43And some days we are so filled with the Holy Spirit that we are doing what he
- 5:48said to do in 1 Peter 5, 6, when he said to humble yourselves,
- 5:52therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
- 5:57Have you thought about what it means to humble yourself under the mighty hand of God?
- 6:04See, he's telling you, place your trust in Jesus and realize that he is mighty
- 6:11to save, he's mighty to protect,
- 6:13he's mighty to help, and his grand plan for you that he tells us about in Jeremiah
- 6:1929, 11 that he has for us must be mighty.
- 6:23And it must be mighty good. Because if your earthly father knows how to give
- 6:29you good things, How much more will your heavenly Father know how to give you good things?
- 6:34And no good thing does he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
- 6:39Jesus not only wants to save you, he wants to have constant,
- 6:44continual communication and fellowship with you, and he wants you to follow him.
- 6:50And when you follow him in his footsteps, you will be led to the life that he
- 6:56promises is in John 10.10 that says he came to give us life and to have it more abundantly.
- 7:02So how does all of that work in the midst of someone tearing you down,
- 7:09shoving you aside, consistently demeaning you?
- 7:15Well, first we have to look at the situation. If we're where we shouldn't be,
- 7:20then we need to remove ourselves from it.
- 7:24God does not expect us to be a punching bag. He does not expect us to live in misery.
- 7:30But sometimes we walk in ways to be a blessing to someone else.
- 7:35Sometimes we walk in ways to be a living testimony of who God is, His grace and His mercy.
- 7:42Sometimes we walk in ways so that we can instruct others who aren't as close.
- 7:50And who don't understand that daily we choose to follow Jesus and to pick up his cross.
- 7:59But how do we manage to do that when we know that we're in the place we're supposed
- 8:06to be, but the place we're supposed to be feels lousy?
- 8:11How do we continue to keep putting one foot in front of the other so that we
- 8:15are standing in the center of God's will, experiencing joy unspeakable and a
- 8:22peace that passes understanding?
- 8:24Because that's the only way you
- 8:28can endure the hardships of this life that are meant for you to endure,
- 8:34is if you do realize that you humble yourself, you submit yourself,
- 8:39you put yourself below the mighty hand of God.
- 8:43And I think it looks a little like Psalm 91, where he says, he that dwelleth
- 8:50in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
- 8:56The shadow behind his protection in the coolness of the shade,
- 9:05in the footsteps that are right.
- 9:09In Psalms 91, he goes on to say, I will say of the Lord, he is my refuge and
- 9:13my fortress, my God in him will I trust.
- 9:18Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the noise and pestilence.
- 9:24He shall cover thee with his feathers and under his wings shalt thou trust.
- 9:30His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
- 9:34And he goes on to say thou should not be afraid because he's our shield and our buckler.
- 9:41So how is it that we can do that? It's because the battle isn't ours.
- 9:481 Samuel 1747 ties all of this together.
- 9:52You might be in a battle, but it's not yours to fight.
- 9:57You might be the physical presence of the spiritual warfare.
- 10:06You simply might be the person God is using to stand in the gap for someone else.
- 10:17And we're not going to be able to pull that off if we're not trusting completely that His plan is for us.
- 10:23We're not going to be able to pull that off if we are looking for every moment
- 10:30of every day to reflect we get what we think we deserve.
- 10:35But I'd like to just insert a truth here. If we get what we deserve, we get hell.
- 10:44And life is but a vapor. So this moment of uncomfortableness that you may be
- 10:50living in, which surely it will pass, there's nothing like the hell we deserve.
- 10:57And we signed up for the army of God. We said, I believe you,
- 11:01Jesus. I believe you shed your blood on Calvary.
- 11:05And that you covered my sins, and that you've washed me white as snow,
- 11:10and you've placed inside of me the Holy Spirit to lead me, to guide me, and to comfort me.
- 11:16So how do we walk through the valley of the shadow of death?
- 11:20How do we walk and fear no evil?
- 11:23How do we take each step on the path of hardness in this world?
- 11:29Troubles, we've got some.
- 11:31Listen, he said, don't be surprised. Hey, they didn't like me either,
- 11:37so they're not going to like you.
- 11:40But he said, be of good cheer, for I have good news.
- 11:44I have overcome the world.
- 11:49Jesus in this, these few verses of a plethora of others, has given us an understanding of, hold on.
- 12:01Jesus has you. And let's look at him for a minute. He's trustworthy.
- 12:07Before you were even born, he knew you had a sin debt that you couldn't pay.
- 12:12So he took on a sin debt he didn't owe so that you could be freed from the bondage
- 12:18and the slavery of sin. But you know what we do?
- 12:22We have one foot in the world and the rest of us trying to do the spiritual thing.
- 12:29That's a recipe for disaster because
- 12:33he wants the whole of us because we
- 12:37get the whole of him he wants our every thought he wants our every heartbeat
- 12:42he wants our energy he wants our talents he wants our skills and he wants our
- 12:49devotion and he says hey if you give me that I got you.
- 12:55I'll surround you with my feathers. I'll pull you up on my lap.
- 13:00I will protect you. I will provide for you.
- 13:04I will lift you up.
- 13:06But we're short-sighted. We somehow think that this is the prize.
- 13:12When yet we're told that the best is yet to come. Eye hath not seen and ear
- 13:17hath not heard what lies in store for them that love the Lord.
- 13:20It's never even entered into the mind of man.
- 13:24Were short-sighted. It is a great privilege to serve the King of Kings.
- 13:33Jesus' love for us is unquestioned. His dedication to us is unmatched.
- 13:40His provision for us is unbelievable.
- 13:44But have you thought about what it cost Him? We all think about the cross,
- 13:49and I don't think any of us ever really can fathom what it meant to give his
- 13:58life on the cross, the pain and the suffering he endured.
- 14:03And he was fully man when he was on that cross and fully God.
- 14:08The fully man part makes it possible for me to know that every trial,
- 14:14every temptation, every pain, every negative situation, he understands.
- 14:20He's been there, done that, and has the scars to prove it.
- 14:24His fully guard part shows me that my redemption draweth nigh and my Redeemer lives.
- 14:33And that though I'm a vile sinner, I am saved by the free gift of grace.
- 14:40Jesus loves me. This I know.
- 14:44But sometimes my fleshly mind and my finite mind struggles to understand the
- 14:52depth and the breadth of his infinite love and wisdom.
- 14:56And so when trials are coming my way, when people are hurting me,
- 15:01when my feelings are getting tramped on, when I'm being bypassed by others,
- 15:07when I am being overlooked, not respected,
- 15:13and completely disregarded, it is then I want to know how Jesus walked.
- 15:19Because only then, understanding what Jesus went through, understanding what he walked through,
- 15:26understanding what he gave up, that's the only way that I'm going to understand
- 15:30that this King of kings and Lord of lords is going to carry me through.
- 15:35I've got to get my eyes fixed on Jesus.
- 15:42I've got to understand that my battles don't belong to me. They belong to the Lord.
- 15:48King David understood that in 1 Samuel 17, 47, when he said,
- 15:53All this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear,
- 15:56for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you unto my hands.
- 15:59I'm telling you, hold on.
- 16:02The king is coming. Hold on. The king has got you.
- 16:07Hold on. In 1 Peter 5, 6, he says, Humble yourselves, therefore,
- 16:12into the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Don't give up.
- 16:19Just before the revelation that it's your time.
- 16:24See, this King of Kings and Lord of Lords, as we're told in Matthew 28, 18,
- 16:30when he said that Jesus came to spake unto them, and he said this,
- 16:35All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. All power.
- 16:42That means he's it. He's all that in a bag of chips.
- 16:47He's supreme authority. there's none like him, and there's none above him.
- 16:54In other places in Scripture, we are told that everything is created by him
- 17:01and under him, so he is above all.
- 17:06But yet, I want to bring to your attention how he lived.
- 17:12When he came into this world, he came as a babe. We learned that in Luke 2.
- 17:18The innkeeper there didn't have any room for him.
- 17:21So he pitches him out into a stable-like area.
- 17:27So he who owned it all has an humble beginning as an outcast as all the other
- 17:35people there was room for.
- 17:38But it didn't stop there.
- 17:41See jesus spoke to.
- 17:44Us in very distinct ways to give
- 17:48us hope because hope has a name and his name is jesus and so he says to them
- 17:52remember the word that i said unto you that the servant is not greater than
- 17:58his lord if they have persecuted me they will also persecute you if they have kept my saying,
- 18:05they will also keep yours. In other words, listen.
- 18:08Remember he said, be of good cheer. I've overcome the world.
- 18:12But don't expect this world that doesn't understand you, this world that does
- 18:17not respect Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
- 18:21Don't expect it to be a friendly place for you.
- 18:24Don't get comfortable.
- 18:27Because we are pilgrims sojourning through, looking for a city whose builder and maker is God.
- 18:34In John 15, 20, he said, Remember the word that I said unto you.
- 18:38I think that would be incredibly smart for us all to remember many of the words that he said unto us.
- 18:47But Jesus tells us, Look, your life here is not going to be easy.
- 18:53Keep your eyes on me.
- 18:57Fact, he says, wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses,
- 19:03let us lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily beset us,
- 19:08and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
- 19:16This trial, this obstacle, this seemingly disrespect, this overlooking,
- 19:24this neglect, this meanness and cruelty.
- 19:28It's the road and the race that's been set before you.
- 19:32And he says, endure it with patience.
- 19:36And you're saying, well, I can't. How can I? I'm telling you, give it to the Lord.
- 19:41Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God. Victory is coming.
- 19:45How do I know that? Because in Romans 8, 37, he says, Nay, in all these things,
- 19:50we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Jesus loves me.
- 19:55This I know. And he tells us in 1 Corinthians 1557 that we be thanks to God,
- 20:02which give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 20:05He is not slack concerning his promises.
- 20:09And he said, I will supply your every need.
- 20:13He said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. and he said,
- 20:17I'll give you the strength of your need.
- 20:19But you got to keep your eyes on the prize.
- 20:22You got to keep your eyes on Jesus. You got to hang on.
- 20:25The king is going to exalt you.
- 20:28The king is going to notice you. Nail-scarred hands are going to clap for your performance.
- 20:34Nail-scarred hands are going to wrap them around you. The attaboy you get from
- 20:38Jesus is way more than anything earth can compare or create.
- 20:45All of heaven is looking over the balcony,
- 20:49supporting you and cheering you on and giving you what you need,
- 20:53because that person who's pushing you down, putting you in a box,
- 20:58throwing you in a corner, I promise you there's going to be a day of reckoning.
- 21:03Perry's sisters used to sing a song called, There's a Payday Someday.
- 21:08And for those of us who are in the trenches and we are dodging the bullets or just,
- 21:17hunkering down in the arms of jesus and allowing
- 21:20his wings of feathers to block them allowing the shield and the buckler that
- 21:25he is for us to turn those shots away those of us who are walking that path
- 21:31straight and narrow trying hard not to look left or right trying hard not to talk about the storm,
- 21:37but seeing Jesus for who he is, allowing him to let us walk over the problems,
- 21:43to walk on the water of his life.
- 21:45The sustaining, thirst, fulfilling, successful, life-giving blood is something
- 21:53that quenches all the thirst because it gives us a water that will make us never thirst again.
- 21:58And we're walking on the water of his provision. We're walking on the water of his protection.
- 22:04We're walking on the water of the procedures and the processes that God has
- 22:09laid before us in the race that he has set us.
- 22:11It is now time to hunker down.
- 22:14Let him be the shield. Let him be the buckler. And in the face of any kind of
- 22:21problems and any weapon formed against you.
- 22:25Set your eyes upon Jesus.
- 22:29Look straight in his face, and the things of this world will grow strangely dim.
- 22:36How do we endure the stuff that the devil throws at us?
- 22:43We throw our hands up and say, Lord, save me. We fix our eyes like a flint on
- 22:50Jesus, and we don't look at the circumstances.
- 22:57When Peter looked at the circumstances, he failed. And my friend,
- 23:02we don't count the points.
- 23:05We don't measure the score.
- 23:09We live in the blessings and we trust completely and we put every ounce of faith
- 23:16we have in a God that cannot fail.
- 23:21I want you to see what he did in Matthew chapter 22.
- 23:26I'm going to read verses 16 through 21 in your hearing.
- 23:29This is the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
- 23:33This is the one true living God who is greater than all. And this is what he says.
- 23:41They sent unto him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying,
- 23:45Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth.
- 23:49Neither carest thou for any man, for thou regardest not the person of men.
- 23:54Tell us, therefore, what thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
- 24:01But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me,
- 24:05ye hypocrites? Show me the tribute money.
- 24:08And they brought it unto him, a penny.
- 24:11And he said unto them, Whose is the image and subscription?
- 24:16And they say unto him, Caesar's. Then he saith unto them, Render therefore unto
- 24:22Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God.
- 24:28Jesus is telling his disciples that God is supreme and God is above,
- 24:32but I'm on earth like a man, and right now the authority that God has given on earth is Caesar.
- 24:39And so you give to Caesar what is Caesar's. He subjects himself to the rules
- 24:44of the land so long as they never contradicted the rules of God.
- 24:50Now, I don't know about you, but I'm pretty certain that I know what I'm talking about here.
- 24:57You've never been disrespected, overlooked, discarded, mistreated,
- 25:07been treated hurtful or mean.
- 25:10Anybody who had as much authority over you as the king, Caesar,
- 25:18was exerting over Jesus.
- 25:22Jesus submitted when he could have called 10,000 angels to smite him,
- 25:28when he could have looked at him and said, let's go one-on-one.
- 25:32You show me what you can do, and I'll show you what I can do,
- 25:35and then I'll raise you to.
- 25:37Let's see you speak the world into existence. Hey, let's see you tell that rock to bring forth water.
- 25:45Hey, you tell that ocean wave to stop.
- 25:51See, Jesus could have pulled his punches at him.
- 25:57He could have exhibited great power because as we were told previously in Matthew
- 26:0528, 18, all power is given unto him in heaven and on earth.
- 26:10But Jesus didn't do that.
- 26:13Jesus knew who he was. And rambling and fighting with someone not worthy to
- 26:22tie his shoelaces wasn't in his plans.
- 26:26Jesus knew that Caesar couldn't do anything that Jesus didn't let Caesar do.
- 26:31So when you're looking at the power trip somebody's having over you,
- 26:36the jealousy they may be exhibiting because of you, or the way they're treating you.
- 26:43Remember that as a Christian, you wear the title Christ-like.
- 26:48And Christ said, humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God,
- 26:54that he may exalt you in due time.
- 26:57Caesar's long dead and gone. Jesus still reigns. and one day he's coming back.
- 27:05Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that he is Lord.
- 27:10Friends, Jesus endured, I believe, so that we would understand some things aren't
- 27:17worth a fight and it's not your fight to fight.
- 27:21It's mine, he said. The battle belongs to the Lord.
- 27:26I want to give you another example And for this, I would ask you to turn in
- 27:32your Bibles to Matthew chapter 27, verses 12 through 26.
- 27:40This is Jesus, who left the splendor of heaven, who's fully God and fully man.
- 27:46He is the second part of the Trinity. There's God the Father,
- 27:49God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
- 27:52This is who we're talking about, who's going to stand, be ridiculed, mocked.
- 28:00But for the race that was set before him, for the job God had given him, he stayed fixed on God.
- 28:11And he allowed God to raise him, to save him, to help him, to strengthen him.
- 28:18Beginning in verse 12, we read this.
- 28:22And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
- 28:27Let's read that again. And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
- 28:34He said not a word.
- 28:38And he answered him to never a word insomuch that the governor marveled greatly.
- 28:43Now at that feast, the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner whom they would.
- 28:49And they had then a notable prisoner called Barabbas.
- 28:54Therefore, when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them,
- 28:57Whom will ye that I release unto you, Barabbas?
- 29:00Or Jesus, which is called Christ. For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
- 29:05When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him,
- 29:09saying, Have thou nothing to do with this, that just man?
- 29:13For I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
- 29:16But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitude that they should
- 29:21ask Barabbas and destroy Jesus.
- 29:26Oh, friends, the way of the cross is difficult and lonely.
- 29:32The crowd is going to go along to get along. The crowd is going to do what's popular.
- 29:39The crowd isn't who you answer to. The crowd isn't the supreme authority.
- 29:46You've got to set your faith and your trust in Jesus Christ,
- 29:51and you've got to set your heart and mind and life like Flint.
- 29:55In the direction that he's calling you.
- 29:59When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife had told him not to do anything about it.
- 30:06But like many, Pilate isn't listening to good advice.
- 30:13So Pilate saith unto them, what shall I do then with Jesus, which is called Christ?
- 30:19That's a question you're being asked today, too. What are you going to do with Jesus?
- 30:25They all say unto him, let him be crucified. And the governor said,
- 30:30Why? What evil has he done?
- 30:31But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
- 30:35Pilate knew what he was doing was wrong, but he could not stand against the
- 30:40crowd. Is that you today?
- 30:43Do you have fickle love? You're good inside the church doors,
- 30:47but outside the church doors nobody can tell?
- 30:50I'm not sure what kind of love that really is.
- 30:53When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a turmoil was
- 30:57made, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude,
- 31:01saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person. See ye to it.
- 31:05Then answered all the people and said, His blood be on us and on their children.
- 31:11Then released he Barabbas unto them.
- 31:14And when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
- 31:22Let's go back to verse 12.
- 31:27And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
- 31:35He wasn't afraid.
- 31:38He was following the will of God. He wasn't helpless.
- 31:43He was standing in the most strength you'll ever see exhibited in this world.
- 31:49He was standing in the most strength you'll ever see exhibited in this world.
- 31:50Was completely humbled to stand in the presence of God and allow God to take this battle.
- 31:58He was running the race that was set before him.
- 32:02Now, I know that many of you have been abused, hurt by life,
- 32:09betrayed by friends you loved,
- 32:12by churches, by church people, by people of the world at work,
- 32:18but none of you have a race set before you that comes close to the race that God set before Jesus.
- 32:29And Jesus showed us how to run that race.
- 32:33He showed us to walk in the ways that God has prescribed for us to walk.
- 32:40He showed us to be bold in our faith, strong in our trust.
- 32:45He showed us to set our
- 32:48purpose like flint against what god has given us to do so the next time you're
- 32:57walking being shoved and pushed jostled and forgotten pierced with words,
- 33:06shoved aside in deafening silence look up your redemption draweth nigh Hold
- 33:16on just a little longer, because the anchor holds,
- 33:21and your day is coming.
- 33:25The King is coming.
- 33:28Remember, you are loved. Jesus loves you.
