- 0:00SPEAKER_03: What if the secret to a happier life is simply moving from fear to love?
- 0:05SPEAKER_03: In this episode, we explore how a shift in perspective can change everything.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: Hello and welcome to the James Granstrom Podcast Super Soul Model Series.
- 0:19SPEAKER_03: Today we are joined by Alan Cohen.
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: Alan is a best-selling author of more than 34 inspirational books, including A Course of Miracles Made Easy, Miracles Actually, and for more than 40 years, Alan has been making profound spiritual and metaphysical ideas just seem accessible, practical, and relevant to everyday life.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: His work has been translated into 32 languages and he's been featured on CNN, Oprah.com, The Washington Post, USA Today, just to name a few.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: But what I appreciate about Alan and his work is his warmth, his humour, his clarity, and his ability to help us move from fear to love in our day-to-day lives.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: So, Alan, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to this week's episode.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: Delighted to be here, James.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: So, Alan, you spent more than 40 years exploring life, and you have written so many wonderful books.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: Where did it all start?
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: What was the turning point for you?
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Well, I've been on a spiritual path since I was in college.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: But my writing came in an interesting way.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: I was renting a room in the house of a friend named Barbara, and she went for a psychic reading with Vincent Ragone in New York City.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: And she came back and told me that he interrupted himself during the reading and said, Tell Alan to write.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: And she hadn't told my name anything about me.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: And it meant nothing to me.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: I wasn't interested in writing.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: You know, I just filed it away.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: And then a few weeks later, I woke up one morning and his voice said, Write.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: I didn't want to do it, but I did it.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: And all these ideas started downloading.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: A bit like a freight train.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: I kept writing and writing, writing, turned into a book.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: And I showed Barbara the manuscript.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: And it was a book of poetic essays.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: The Dragon Doesn't Live Here Anymore was my first book.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Poetic Spiritual Essays.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: And so she said, Oh, let me let me play you that cassette tape.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: So she went to her closet and got the cassette from that original psychic interview.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: And he said, Tell Elle to write, I think a book of poetic essays would be very good.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: So it was a date with Destiny.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: And it was something I had to do, and it changed my life, of course, in a million ways.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: But um I think that I had a soul contract with writing, a soul contract with a course from Miracles.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: And uh it's just unfolded like that ever since.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: So there's a story that I don't know is true, but you have to correct me if I've got this wrong.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: But there's a story about you buying a typewriter, or at least seeing a typewriter in a garage, is it a car boot sale or something like that?
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: And the story is, Alan, and for those listening or watching, you're gonna love this story because Alan is, you know, a walking-talking uh messenger of the way spirituality works in everyday life.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: And the story is, Alan, you correct me at any point, is that you saw a typewriter, you thought, oh, uh if I if that I like that typewriter, but maybe it's a little expensive.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: But then you went away, couldn't stop thinking about it, and then you thought, if it's there when I get back, I'm just gonna pop it.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: And maybe that's the beginning of my writing career.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: Is that kind of true?
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: Have I got it correctly?
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, pretty good, right on.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: Uh I had been typing on my friend Barbara's typewriter, and I thought, well, maybe I'll get my own one day.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: And I was making like you know, a couple hundred dollars a month.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: I was just teaching yoga, it wasn't wealthy or anything.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and um, I went to this garage sale and it was an electric typewriter for 50 bucks.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: I thought that's too much.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Didn't spend that much money on my uh typewriter.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: So but I went home and it wouldn't let me go, like I'd be falling asleep and I'd see the typewriter.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: So I went back and it was still there the next week.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: So I purchased it.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's the next week.
- 4:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, wow, that was like it wasn't even the same afternoon, it was the next week.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: It was a weekend, it was a title yard sale.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: And um and I wrote, you know, several more of my books on it before computers came out.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: But my lesson was, James, that um it was a$50 investment that seemed like a lot for me at the time, but that typewriter turned into a huge amount of return with many books.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: You know, it was it was infinitesimal compared to the income I earned through the books.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: So I use that as a metaphor for anybody who has a dream, a vision, a goal, and they're reticent to invest in themselves, but I tell them that even what seems like a big investment will come back a millionfold if you're aligned with spirit.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: So it's a metaphor for believing in yourself and doing what you need to do to honor yourself.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: I think the the beautiful thing that you just said there is that it's aligned with spirit, it's aligned with your soul.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think that's the beautiful thing there because sometimes we want to invest in ourselves, and it is important to invest in ourselves, but you know when there's magic underneath that.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: And I really love that story, it really resonates.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: You've had a wonderful ability to receive these wonderful and profound spiritual ideas.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: How's that all sort of come about?
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: You talked a little bit earlier about like these downloads that you received for writing books.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: What's your what's your method?
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: How's that become practical for you?
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Well, I I have this interest and passion to extract spiritual lessons from mundane activities.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Like I think in metaphors.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: Which is a great way to be able to teach, isn't it?
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: Because you can on the I mean, all the great teachers taught with parables, and you know, Jesus and Buddha, they all and the Jewish tradition, they all taught with, you know, life stories and metaphors and parables.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: And so I'm always thinking in terms of what does this mean or what does it symbolize?
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: How can I use this for teaching?
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: And you know, daily, daily stuff, you know, pops into my brain.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this would be a good lesson.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: And I just translate them into lessons in my podcast or my or my books.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I truly believe I'm guided, James.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: I think that I have guides or or mentors or um, you know, whether the Holy Spirit you might call it, I just feel like somebody up there is helping me.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: And um these ideas pop into my brain, and it's my job to flesh them out so they're readable and interesting to the mass.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I I consider myself more of a recording secretary than an author.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: That's a really beautiful way of describing that, Alan.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: I remember once Lenny Kravitz said uh on an interview, he was he was saying on a Graham Norton show on on the BBC, he was in between like this, about shooting a movie, one of the Hunger Games, I forget which one, but he he got an idea for a new album in the middle of the night.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: And and uh and Graham, the interviewer, kept on asking, I was like, Well, but weren't you tired again?
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: Well, one song turned into two songs, and I was playing the guitar, and then suddenly the words came, and then you know, before I know it, it's 3 a.m.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: and I've got four songs, and suddenly more is coming, and then you know, it's five o'clock in the morning, and I've got nine nine tracks now.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: That's an album.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: And he had to be on set by 6 a.m.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: And I was like, you know, what you're exhausted, you know, and he goes, Yeah, and he goes, but I didn't know when I would receive something like that again, right?
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: And going back to your story and your analogy and your metaphor, it's like you said you were receiving, and uh Lenin Lenny was also saying something very similar, even in music, and I find that really inspiring and powerful, but at the same time very true for each of us in our own unique way.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: I think we all have a direct connection to spirit, and spirit is happy to guide us, whatever our metaphor is, you know, whatever your work is.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: And I think we just have to be relaxed and open and recognize that we're loved and blessed.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: And, you know, when we're open, spirit's happy to just load up our our truck with gifts for the world and ourselves.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: I just wanted to say, uh, I I haven't actually shown you, but I want to share with you.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: One of your your books has really touched me, and it I remember Louise Hay talking about this book years and years ago, and uh she said, if you're gonna read one book, read this one by Alan.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: And uh what I love about it is it's all about what we've just been talking about, full of metaphors, full of stories.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: And for me, when I had my spiritual awakening, which was like 26 years ago, I needed something practical because I felt like practicality is going to be important for me to understand.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: So I picked up your book, which is called A Deep Breath of Life.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: Wow, and what I love about this book is all the Bible.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: Um I've been reading this book I I don't know, at least for 15 years every day.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: Wow, wow, so so big thank you to Alan because a lot of his stories in here are incredibly relatable in one way or another.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's a movie you've seen, a song you've listened to, or stories of Alan's friends, or story of Alan himself, all wonderfully relatable.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: This particular book is like distilled wisdom every single day, and I absolutely love this book, and as you can see, it's uh thank you.
- 10:03SPEAKER_03: It's taking a beating, but you know, my mother loves it, she's got one as well, you know.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: So that's a real company.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: I think you must win the award for the most unique one.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: I remember once I I I met Bob Proctor years ago, and uh Bob Proctor had a copy of Think and Grow Rich, and I remember him reading this book, uh, you know, and I and this dilapidated book very much like this, and I was inspired.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: I was thinking he must really like that book, you know.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: I must be taking something new from that book.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: And uh, you know, I'd like to say I take something from from your book and the wisdom that you share every single day.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: I just think that there's something really beautiful about the heart that you talk in there, and I think that's for me, that's very relatable.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: And I think that as a conscious man in this world, I think that's really powerful to make sure we tap into the heart energy because I think that we start to receive much more clarity about life.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: And one of the things you talk about a lot is moving from fear to love in a lot of your books.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: And I'd just like to know how that sort of works for you in your life.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: How did you move from that fear paradigm to the love paradigm?
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: Well, it's a daily practice.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: Uh I didn't just move once and that was it.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: I had to practice it every day as we all do.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: Uh, this Course and Miracles helped me with this because of Course and Miracles says that there's really only two human motions, fear and love.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: And every thought, word, action, and feeling is a result of one or the other.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: And so my life becomes an experiment in exploring the contrast between the two.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: And I noticed more and more how bad fear feels, and how nothing good ever comes when I act out of fear, and how great love feels, and how everything works when I act from love.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: So, you know, it's a really simple, you know, I do this holistic life coach training, and this is the key method that I teach people to work with their clients that when you have a decision or a problem, ask yourself what is the voice of fear say, and then ask yourself, what is the voice of love say, and which one feels better.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: And it's a very simple exercise, but it always works.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: I I use that almost all my coaching sessions, and I get huge results because people uh they need to know that fear isn't working, love does.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: So it's an ongoing practice.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: That's a beautiful thing.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: And if we were to just speak to somebody in the audience right now who's having a challenge, maybe they've just lost somebody or they've had a breakup or or something like that.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: How might this that you're you share, how might this actually sort of sit in a day-to-day experience or a palpable thing that they could practice?
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Well, let's do it right now, shall we?
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: Let's try.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Let's try.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Okay, so if you're watching this podcast, so take a moment if you would.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: That's a little exercise.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: So close your eyes and think of some situation in your life that's a big question mark for you or a challenge, it's troubling you somehow.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: I don't know what to do.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: And then take a breath and ask yourself what is the voice of fear telling me about this situation.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: You're not enough.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: You're not it's not gonna work out, nothing works out for me.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: Can't do this too hard.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: I'm a victim, I'm I'm insufficient.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: I notice that all of those I'm guilty, all of those messages are laden with a dark energy.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: The voice of fear never says anything nice.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: It's repressive, it's rude, it's crude, it's it's judgmental, it's nasty, it's a really dark voice, and we all have it.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Just be honest, if you could put in one sentence what the voice of fear is saying to you, what would it what would that be?
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Can I take a breath?
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Wipe off your mental whiteboard.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: There's another voice inside you that comes from an entirely different place.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: We call it the voice of love.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: Which voice feels better?
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: Well, of course, the second one, it feels way more expansive.
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: The chest seems to open, the shoulders seem to drop, you feel just lighter.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: It's a beautiful, it's a beautiful uh exercise.
- 15:59SPEAKER_03: Thank you for sharing that.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: And you can do it a thousand times a week, or you know, it it always works.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: Very simple, and it always works.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: What I really like that you said in this like exercise is that you can get the whiteboard and just wipe it out.
- 16:16SPEAKER_03: And that's a really nice sort of visual to just I'm gonna clean that away and create space for the energy of love that's healing and warm and safe and full of full of like trust, full of ease.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: You know, that that that you welcome that.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: But it's so funny how the mind works, how we sort of fall into fear, or we just react from it as a normal response.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: Why is that?
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: Why do we do that as human beings?
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: You know, it's just a habit that comes with being in a body and identifying with a body.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, Ernest Holmes, the founder of Science of Mind, called it race thought.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: It's like the human race, it's it's almost like there's a cloud of darkness that surrounds people and the world.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: And when you tap into that mindset, all that darkness becomes your own, but it doesn't really belong to us.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: So let's just say it's a habit of thought we learned.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: We were not born with it.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Children are innocent.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: This is why we love children and pets, because they're still connected to purity.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: And one key is to remember that at our core, we're absolutely innocent.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: We've never sinned, we've never done anything that could cause us to lose the love of God.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: That is our true self.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: And anything unlike that is completely learned and adopted and does not belong to us in the least.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: So the spiritual journey is about returning to our original innocence.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: I think that's a beautiful thing.
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: That innocence is really what we seek and we know is our nature, but for some reason we can swerve it regularly.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:00SPEAKER_02: And it doesn't help when a lot of people are agreeing with darkness.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: I mean, people are in fear about the news, they're fear about war, about gasoline prices, about the economy.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: And, you know, when people agree on these big problems, you have to work extra hard to not be sucked into that vortex.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: And the good news is there's another vortex of spiritual well-being, and once you align yourself with that vortex, that becomes your reality.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: And I think it's about putting your foot in that vortex more and more of the time, isn't it?
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: It's a practice.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: Exactly, yeah.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: So to flex that spiritual muscle, you often talk about miracles.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: What is a miracle to you?
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: What do you call a miracle?
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: For someone listening thinking, wow, it's a miracle, but you talk about everyday miracles.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Well, a miracle is a shift in perception from fear to love.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: So we associate it with people jumping out of wheelchairs and winning the lottery and stuff like that.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: And that's all true, that's all good.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: But really, the real miracle is to recognize that we're not alone, that we're not punishable, that we do not owe, and that at any moment the love of God is available to us and can heal us and can save us, uplift us, transform us, when we just open to it.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: The miracle is a mindset shift.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: And once we're in that, all the physical stuff proceeds from that.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: You can have physical stuff, but if your mind doesn't change, what's the good?
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: So it's all about changing your mind to recognize the presence of love where it didn't seem to be a few moments ago.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: So when you first started out and you were beginning to write books, what shift in perception did Alan have?
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: What did Alan have to go, oh, I'm in this receptive mode to be able to write these books and with analogies and beautiful metaphors?
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Because you would have been in a place where you might have been challenged starting to write at the beginning, but then then suddenly came all these ideas, and then you have to live them.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: You know, you have to be the teacher that walks the talk and walks the walk.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: Well, I can actually trace it back before I began writing, James.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: I was in college and I went to this human relations retreat, and he basically went off to a cabin with 12 people and talked about your feelings and all good stuff like that.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: And at that time, I was really in my head, and I was trying to prove myself, and I was all about image management and uh looking cool and getting girls and yada yada yada.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: And I was in this group for a whole weekend, and the last night of the group, somebody said to me, How are you feeling, Alan?
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: And I said, I feel very, very comfortable, which is a big lie.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: And somebody said, Well, that's funny.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: You don't look very comfortable to me.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Somebody said, Yeah, me too.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: So out of 11 12 people in the group, I was the only one that that believed I was comfortable.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: So basically they called me on my stuff, and they I realized that um I was hiding behind a presentation.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: And probably as a model, you can have some things to say about that.
- 21:23SPEAKER_04: Oh, I should.
- 21:24SPEAKER_04: I want to hear your story first.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: But anyway.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Um, but then something happened inside me, James.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: This is the point of the whole story, that it was a little voice, like a little light, like a little trapdoor open, and it said, It's okay, Alan.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: You can let go.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: You can just be yourself.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: And I said, Well, you know, you guys are probably right.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: I haven't been feeling very comfortable.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: But yeah, he's fine, told the truth.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: So he can own it.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: He can own his uncomfortability, right?
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but but it was more like just being well to be naked and honest about who I really am.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: And I kind of dropped a lifetime of image management and trying to look cool.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: And I gained the first breadcrumb, first bread crumb, the breadcrumb trail of I can live authentically.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: Which is huge for a lot of people.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: And my life changed almost overnight.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: It became like a vacuum cleaner for trainings and therapies and healings and gurus that would reinforce my authentic spiritual self.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: And that was that was that was it sounds like the tiniest thing.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: It was just a little voice of it's okay, I'll let go now.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: But it it achieved a course correction that affected my entire life, which led into my writing my books.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: Thank you for sharing that.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: I I think that that's a really beautiful thing, and I think it's more prevalent now than ever, you know, whether that was a few years ago, several years ago, or or now, like with social media, because you know, a lot of comparison is happening now more than ever.
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: I know when I've been in modelling, you know, one is always comparing oneself to somebody else, and it's the fastest way to sap your life life force, your life energy, or your mojo from you quicker than anything.
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: Um in fact, I I I might have talked spoken about it before, but I remember there was uh about a year, year and a half when I felt like even though I was modelling and in a in a privileged position, I was so not myself, and I felt so out of sync with myself, and it was a very, very difficult year for me.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: And it took me about a year, year and a half to come back to myself to go, I'm not gonna compare myself to anybody else, this is who I am.
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: You can't put yourself into a box or a pigeonhole.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: Once you realize you're a great spirit, there's a big soul inside of you that and only part of it's inhabiting this physical form.
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: You know, you can't be pigeonholed, you can't be put in a in a small box.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: And so maybe this is your job that you do, but it's not who you are.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Who you are is much bigger, much grander, and more beautiful than you can imagine, and more powerful than you can imagine.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: And I think it took a lot of meditation, a lot of spending time in nature to really question, you know, myself over and over again, which is who am I?
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: And it's okay to be who I really am, regardless of whether I fit in or don't fit in.
- 24:39SPEAKER_03: And I think anybody who's listening or watching right now, you know, you might feel as though you're comparing yourself to somebody else who may have more than you or maybe better than you, or whatever.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: And I think what Alan's been saying here, more than anything, is it's okay to be who you are.
- 24:56SPEAKER_03: In fact, nothing will change and get even better until you accept that.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: A huge lesson.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Uh, Mark Twain said that comparison is the thief of joy.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, you're you're in an extremely competitive industry.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, you fortunately, I'm I'm so honored to to see that you you broke out of that mold and you rose into a higher consciousness.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Good for you.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: I appreciate it.
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's part of my journey, you know, and one of the things that you know I I take from it is what a privileged position to to be in the fashion industry, be in the beauty industry.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: But beauty isn't just on the outside, it's on the inside.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: And if anything, I took from cleaning up my diet and stopping taking drugs, stopping alcohol, was this really simple premise, which is if you have been privileged to be put in a modeling job, try and use that to be a role model to help inspire others to higher levels of consciousness and awareness.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: And I think that that I see as more of a responsibility.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: Because if I can turn it around, then somebody else can turn it around.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: Have you ever thought about or do you mentor younger models?
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, I have mentored younger models, but now I'm mentoring high-performing men.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: And this is really, really exciting to watch people who are already in fantastic positions being able to share that wisdom and the distilled information within them down to through their through their work, through their careers, through their companies.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: And I, you know, if anything, I like to see it as a new guiding light to reach more people and create more heaven on earth with understanding of consciousness, awareness, and that balance of the mind, the body and the soul.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: Because for me, my initial thing was I can I can get the body to a certain good state, but the mind was out of whack.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: So I needed to bring that into alignment.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: And then when the body and the mind became in alignment, it felt like I could really listen to my spirit speaking, I could listen to my soul.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: That's a beautiful thing.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: I think spirit puts you in a position so you can help others who are walking the same path you've walked.
- 27:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: So blah, blah.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: I'm glad you're there for those high-performing men.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: Way to go.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: In your book, your latest book, which is like um Miracles Actually, which is a lovely play on words.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: I you know, I always think of that the movie Love Actually, but you've got Love Miracles Actually.
- 27:29SPEAKER_03: Um, tell us a little bit about that.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Well, it's you know, it's easy to talk about miracles and talk about meditation, but you know, it's it's really daily life that gives us a chance to practice miracle-mindedness.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: And so, as you noted, uh, there's lots of metaphors in there.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: Um I share the opening metaphor for that book.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: Uh may I may I tell you that?
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I would love you to share.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: Well, there's a friend of mine was seven years old, uh, a woman, uh she was a girl, and um her dad had been in a war and he was suffering from PTSD.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: And uh he was he was prone to violent outbursts unexpectedly.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: And one day he took a gun and he lined his wife and five children up against the wall, he said, I'm gonna shoot you all, then I'm kill myself.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: And of course, they all went hysterical, except for my friend, who was seven at the time.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: She said, Oh no, you're not, Daddy.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: And she lunged to hug him, and in that moment, he was disarmed, and he began to cry, and he dropped the gun, he fell to the floor, and his family gathered around him.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: And I use that as a metaphor that in a very dark situation, riddled with fear, a voice of innocence can undo it all.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: And, you know, she represents the innocent child in us that is so connected to source that the scariest of external situations cannot prevail.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: And so we have to each look inside ourselves to find that innocent child that is so loving that she or he has no fear and can disarm a madman.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: And of the world at the moment, it's a my madman, a lot of crazy people, and we need to we need to be that child rather than the mad people.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: I think that's a wonderful story and a wonderful metaphor, Alan.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: And you it's so true, you know, the world can seem a very scary and dark place.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: And I think it's the consciousness that we hold as that innocent, like that lovely little girl there, which is what we we are trying to return to to the best of our ability.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: Not always easy when you're seeing so many things around that are causing you to go, but that's not right.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: Surely that's not right.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: But it's it's it's trying to look turn the other cheek a little bit, isn't it?
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, look at it from a different angle.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: You know, uh, we have to transform our difficulties into opportunities or monsters into angels.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: And we can do it, everybody's capable of doing it, it just takes a little faith.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: I always encourage people to have satsang.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: Satsang means the company of truth to hang out with other people of like mind who are holding a higher vision because there's great strength in those numbers.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: So if you're watching, uh, I encourage you to get with anybody you know who thinks high thoughts and make them your friend and make them your support system.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Even the podcast.
- 30:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:57SPEAKER_03: I love the way you call them high thoughts.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: What would you say high thoughts are?
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: Well, thoughts that think with God.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, we know what high thoughts are love and trust and faith and connection and purity and excitement and creativity and innocence and joy.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: You know, all those thoughts are God's thoughts that really belong to us because we're children of God.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: And so, of course, a miracle says there's two minds, the right mind and the wrong mind.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Right mind means you're thinking with God, wrong mind you're thinking against God.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: And so we need to practice.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: I, you know, I've been doing this for many, many years, as you noted, and I have to practice daily, keeping my mind that.
- 31:38SPEAKER_04: You don't get given it for free, do you?
- 31:40SPEAKER_04: You've got to keep working at it.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: You know, it's like you're driving a car.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: You say, well, okay, I take my hands off the steering wheel now.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: It's like you have to keep keep steering your car.
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: Even after all these years, you've still got to keep steering, right?
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: I get I get to practice daily, as we all do.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: Alan, there's a there's uh something that you written in one of your books about being a faith keeper, and I really, really like this.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: Could you expand on that a little bit?
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I saw an interview with a man named Orin Lyon, who was a Native American, and he was uh assigned to be the faith keeper in his tribe, and that meant that no matter what was going on around him, even if other people were freaking out, he had to be the vision holder for the tribe.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: So there could be famine, war, bad weather, and other people get to freak out, but not him.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: He had to hold space for the entire tribe.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: Everyone else gets to freak out except for him.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he doesn't get to play in that dimension, right?
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: And so there's two levels to this.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: One is that you and I need to be the faith keeper for our tribe, which is humanity, and also we have to consult our inner faith keeper that that inside us, even though there's lots of voices freaking out, that there is a place inside of us that is calm and clear and peaceful and loving and confident.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: So we need to drill our well, so to speak, tap into our internal faith keeper, and that be let that be our predominant energy.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: And sometimes that faith keeper might be someone you love, like a spouse, or it might be a friend.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: You know.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: It's somebody outside of us for sure, and it's also somebody inside of us.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: We we need to work on two levels simultaneously.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: This I feel is really important for the ones that we love who may be going through ill health or a challenge.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: And when I read that, I was thinking, wow, I'm gonna put this to use.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: So I've actually put it to use on a few occasions.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: And I have seen remarkable results as an understatement.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: Healings turning around.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: Challenges dissipate.
- 34:09SPEAKER_03: And I just really love this concept you shared is is so incredibly powerful.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: But how could we say do that in a practical day-to-day experience?
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, it's a good good point.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, all you need is one person and a group to hold the faith for everybody.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, years ago I heard like in a relationship, a marriage, a friendship, let the one in least fear lead.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: Let the one in least fear lead, which means that you know, I have a lovely partner for many years, and sometimes she'll get upset.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: I have to be the one to make decisions because in that moment she's not clear enough to make a decision.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: And then it goes around too, vice versa.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: Sometimes I'm upset and she leads.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: So you have to trust that fear is not a qualified guide for leadership.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: There you go for your men's leadership.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: No, I think I think that's a great thing.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: And I I remember like Brene Brown saying, Listen, if you and your partner are together and what your partner's on 20% and you're feeling pretty good, you go, Well, I've got 80%, I can carry us today.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: And they may be going through some diagnosis or some challenge, but you say, Don't worry, I got us.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: I got us.
- 35:23SPEAKER_03: And I think this is exactly the same as that that the love and the fear.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: If you've got the energy, you can manage it.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: You can manage the situation.
- 35:32SPEAKER_03: But it does require an inner strength, an inner will, an inner reservoir of real faith that things will come together.
- 35:43SPEAKER_03: And I think that the way you access that faith is just doing whatever you can to just say this is the outcome we want.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: You know, some people say I believe in God, and some people I'm just saying I'm believing in this vision.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: I think it's really important for each of us to have some practice daily that connects us with source, with a capital S, that whether it's meditation or prayer, or Course in Miracles, or Yoga, or journaling, or nature, you have to charge your spiritual battery every day, especially at the beginning of the day, and that will carry you through your day.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: That's that's going to keep your head on straight when other people are losing theirs.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: So, in the years that you've been writing, in the years that you've been teaching, have you had a similar practice every morning?
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: I meditate every morning.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: First thing when I get up, uh doing this is I'm 22 years old.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: I take my first yoga class.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: How many minutes do you meditate for?
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: I shoot for 20 minutes, but sometimes it's a little less, sometimes it goes on longer.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: And I just do my own form of visualization.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: I visualize light, I connect with God, I get my mind quiet.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: I I do a Course in Miracles lesson after that.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: I send out prayers for my friends and humanity.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I have all my own little tricks, but but the main idea is that I I line myself up with the healing frequency and I I match my mind to God's mind, and then I have access to all the power that God has because God wants to use me as a vessel to bless the world.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: And when I I know who I am, I can do that.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: And so basically, meditation is a it's a memory of our true identity, and we achieve that more through stillness and quietude than frantic activity.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: Thank you for sharing that.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: I appreciate that.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: And it's lovely because everybody wants to know it's like, wow, what morning routine could I put together for me that allows me to fill up my reservoirs with energy to have a good day?
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: Whatever works for you, you know.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: Um a lady came to one of my retreats in Hawaii, and it was just before bedtime, and she was in the lobby reading Emergency Magazine, True Stories of Ambulance Calls.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: So I said, Josephine, why would you come to a spiritual retreat and read that magazine?
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: She said, Well, I work on the rescue squad, and this gives me really good ideas.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: So for her, that was an uplifting experience.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: For me, it would have been a huge downer.
- 38:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:35SPEAKER_02: But I I I give that example because each of us has our own connection to joy, and you don't get to judge what somebody else's connection is, and nobody gets gets to judge what your your connection is.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: That we have to be true true to our own connection to spirit, whatever that is.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: So maybe where Josephine was in her energy was significantly different from where Alan was and what he considers the difference.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, what makes her happy is not my business.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I I it is my goal to support other people and what makes them happy, not my idea of what should make them happy.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: It's funny that you're having to get out of your own way, haven't you?
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: You put the ego aside.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: We do, yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Ego distract us time and time again.
- 39:30SPEAKER_03: Do you remember one exercise that you could have read about the ego in the Course of Miracles that really resonates with you?
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: Well, the Course tells us in general that the ego should be our servant, not our master.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: And we all have an ego.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: You're in the body, you're on planet Earth, you're gonna have physical upsets and urges, and the idea is to redirect the ego so it serves us rather than oppresses us.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: So for example, you know, you have a you have a long background in modeling, and so you could say you have an uh not an ego, but an identity in that dimension.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: So what you've done, uh, quite admirably, I might say, is that you've taken that experience and now you're using it as a v as a venue for teaching, and you're helping high-powered men, as you mentioned.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: So it's like other people are consumed by the modeling ego or the success ego or the sports ego.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: But you've taken it and you've tamed it, we might say, more or less.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: And so that the ego has become your friend and you've hired it as an employee instead of letting it be your boss.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: Make sense?
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, I really like that.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: You've em you've employed it.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: I've employed it to help.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: It's given me, it's given me a platform enabled to help, but it is really I'm I'm the master, not the server, the servant.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: Whereas probably before I was the servant initially whilst I was growing and starting out.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Exactly, yeah.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: And then I became the master.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: As soon as I actually, funnily enough, as soon as I said this is the way it's going to be, I will choose to do work as and when I decide, not nobody else.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: That's when I became the master of the piece, the personal piece, the inner piece.
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: Beautiful.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: You being the master of yourself rather than being the slave to the circumstances, which is what you've just said, I think is the bit that leads us straight to inner freedom.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: Perfectly stated.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: Well, I I and I and I think a lot of your books talk about that.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: I love one of your books, which I think is absolutely amazing, called I just love the title, which is Relax into Wealth.
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 41:52SPEAKER_03: So when you wrote that book, what do you what were you thinking when you're writing that book?
- 41:57SPEAKER_03: Because there's just the title says so much for a lot of people.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: Well, I was building my business and I kind of got sucked into the idea and just promote myself and prove myself and get my numbers up and yada yada yada.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: And it was really exhausting to try to, uh, for lack of better words, seduce people to come to my programs to read my books.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: Like that felt horrible to try to, you know, get stuff from people.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: And I thought, well, what if I just what if I just showed up and said, this is who I am, this is what I had to offer.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: And if you like to play with me, I welcome you.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: So what I did was I I put out a call, uh uh, and and in Star Trek they called the the hailing frequency.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: It's like a fax machine, like you put out a a signal that matches what you stand for on a certain frequency, and then you trust that everybody who recognizes that frequency will find you.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: And that's exactly what's happened in my career.
- 43:13SPEAKER_02: I make a very strong statement about what I believe and who I am and what I stand for, and I invite people who match that to show up.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: I don't want people who don't want who match me.
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: I don't want a lot of people who don't belong to me.
- 43:25SPEAKER_02: I think I have a just right tribe.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: And there's certain people who belong to me in terms of students and teaching.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: And those are the people I want.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: If it's a large number, great.
- 43:34SPEAKER_02: If it's a small number, great.
- 43:36SPEAKER_02: But I want to play with like-minded people whom I can serve and who can help me.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: And so I began to relax more about my career, and it made a big difference because I wasn't trying to hustle anymore.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: I don't like I hate hustling.
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: Promotion is the least thing I like doing in my work.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: So now I just make statements about what I'm up to and I invite people who match that to show up.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: I think again, it just sort of circles back to something you said at the beginning.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: Beginning, which is you just want to hold that authentic energy of Alan.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: And the authentic energy of Alan is this is who I am, and you can either come and meet me or not.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: And either way, I'm okay with that.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: Which is a very magnetic energy, right?
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: I'm okay either way, whether you don't.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: And sometimes I don't look so great.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, I I tell lots of stories about things I did that are absolutely embarrassing.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: So I I told one-on-one group and I said, Do you still like me?
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: And they said, Oh, we like you even more now because you're your person.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: I think it's like it's also lovely when you are able to just own your mistakes and own your faults because we're human beings after all, you know.
- 44:37SPEAKER_03: One of the things that I so enjoy about you know doing this podcast is share candidly some of my mishaps and some of my mistakes, and like, oh, I can't believe I did that, or you you really you don't want to know about I did that.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, but but it makes us human, right?
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: It makes us relatable, you know.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: And that's that's really what this is all about.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: You know, having these conversations makes us relatable, and just recognizing everybody's going through their own struggles and challenges.
- 45:06SPEAKER_03: You know, there is a way you can tap into something higher every day.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: And um, I think your books always help you or have helped me and many, many others, you know, tap back into that, tap into that wisdom, that distilled beautiful spot.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: You know, I call it where the green lights happen, where the good stuff happens, you know, because I I get way too I mean, you can't you can't I can't unknow what I've experienced now in the last sort of quarter of a century.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: You know, I started this in my early 20s and and here I am, and I'm like, well, I'm still I'm still amazed, and you know, I can I'm still continue to be amazed.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: And it's lovely to watch people open those gifts when they start to get close to the energy of of what I call the natural high.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: It's just amazing.
- 45:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: I think one of the things I just really like to touch on as we sort of come to a close is if you were to have your last day on planet Earth, if all your books weren't available, but there was something that you could say that would get this would help the next generation.
- 46:15SPEAKER_02: I would say be exactly what you are and love yourself as you are, and do what you feel guided to do without guilt or oppression, and trust that you're being guided at every step.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: I would I would go to the beach, you know, for the I would I would go to the beach and then I would go swimming up in the mountains, and you know, that would be my gift to humanity.
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: Go go swim in the beach.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: There is something very appealing about just having an hour by the beach, walking on the beach.
- 46:52SPEAKER_03: It's an emotional sense of you clicking back into energetic sense of oh, I feel good again.
- 47:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: Well, we can tie that into your question about relaxing to wealth, because very often my partner Deal said, Go to the beach, would you?
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: Because uh get all balled up in the office doing stuff, and then when I come home, she'll ten people signed up for your program.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: Like you went to the beach.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: Go to the beach again, right?
- 47:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so she said, just relax and do what you you know, take care of yourself.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: And in that moment of of inner quietude and and refreshment, so the door opens for everything good to come to me.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: But if I'm busy trying to hustle and squeeze stuff, it doesn't really it's it's counterproductive.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: So I really so my ease, my peace is my gift to my success and to the planet.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: People want to be the beach more often, the world would be a better place.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: Uh you're you're my kind of fella, and of course, you live in Hawaii, so you've got some of the most beautiful beaches on the entire world.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: I remember a story, there was a guy who was trying to get a job acting.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: He he was desperate to get this audition, and he wasn't sure whether he was going to get it, and you know, he was humming and harring, waiting for the agent to call.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: And uh he spent the entire day at the beach with a friend, and they had a really good time.
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: And uh he completely forgot about that he had waiting for this audition.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: And then this true story, by the way.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: And then next thing you know, is after six, seven hours, the agent's been trying to get hold of him for hours, only to discover, yeah, you've got the part, you're in that, you know, you've got the movie.
- 48:32SPEAKER_03: And uh, I've seen it in my own experience, you know.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: I've seen it in modelling, I've seen it in in all these types of things.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: As soon as you start to just go and hang out in a place that's very relaxing, Mother Nature, good stuff happens.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: So beautiful, beautiful wisdom there from Alan.
