- 1:12Speaker 1: Austin broad E Elite Prospects to break down this Sabers
- 1:16Speaker 1: three to shootout victory over the arrival Toronto Maple Leafs,
- 1:20Speaker 1: again improving their Atlantic Division lead, and we're going to
- 1:23Speaker 1: discuss in generality, the home stand itself and as well
- 1:26Speaker 1: looking forward to the Western the Western road trip to
- 1:30Speaker 1: come here in a little bit Austin before we get
- 1:33Speaker 1: into this game tonight. I know we haven't had you
- 1:35Speaker 1: on for a little bit here. You're on a family vacation.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Glad it all went well down there. You've got to
- 1:40Speaker 1: catch one of the Sabers games as well down there,
- 1:42Speaker 1: which I'm sure was pretty cool in Florida. But just
- 1:46Speaker 1: your general thoughts and what you've seen the last two
- 1:48Speaker 1: or three weeks.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think realistically, since the break ended,
- 1:57Speaker 2: it's been virtually perfect. Right, the break was gonna slow
- 2:05Speaker 2: them down, They just ride right, rifled off an eight
- 2:09Speaker 2: game win streak. Probably should have beat Washington the other
- 2:12Speaker 2: night if not for you know, a bad thirty minutes
- 2:15Speaker 2: and Lyndren playing really well. We're talking about what else
- 2:21Speaker 2: could you ask for, right, I mean playing well playing?
- 2:27Speaker 2: I mean, I hate to say it because there's nothing.
- 2:28Speaker 2: There is no substitute for playoff hockey, and we don't
- 2:31Speaker 2: know what playoff hockey is for this Buffalo Sabers team,
- 2:33Speaker 2: but kind of basically playing playoff style hockey on a
- 2:35Speaker 2: regular basis here. You know, it's been it's been good,
- 2:40Speaker 2: it's been fun. It's it's a weird thing now where
- 2:45Speaker 2: four points up in the Atlantic after tonight because actually
- 2:47Speaker 2: got some help on the out of town scoreboard. The
- 2:49Speaker 2: Shark's beating the Lightning, Detroit's losing to Dallas right now
- 2:52Speaker 2: at Montreal also lost, like the only one behind them
- 2:55Speaker 2: in the Atlantic really that one today was Ottawa and Boston,
- 2:59Speaker 2: and the aus win kind of almost negates the audible
- 3:02Speaker 2: win because they don't get any closer. It's been fun.
- 3:05Speaker 2: It's weird situation. I still haven't really been able to
- 3:08Speaker 2: allow myself to fully grasp that the Sabers are likely
- 3:15Speaker 2: going to make the playoffs. I won't even let myself
- 3:17Speaker 2: say it right there right like they're going to make
- 3:19Speaker 2: the playoffs, but I'm not letting myself fully get there
- 3:21Speaker 2: yet until that exes beside their name. Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Absolutely, And it's it's interesting, right because you don't want
- 3:29Speaker 1: to get to ahead of yourself, but they have such
- 3:31Speaker 1: a percentage to make the playoffs that it's it's almost
- 3:34Speaker 1: a foregone conclusion. But when it's been this long, you
- 3:37Speaker 1: almost want to say, until you see that X beside
- 3:39Speaker 1: their name Sabers. Fans just always have that. I guess
- 3:43Speaker 1: that that in the back of their head that this
- 3:45Speaker 1: is not over yet. So I know there's still you know,
- 3:47Speaker 1: fourteen ish games left for them this season, but got
- 3:50Speaker 1: to be pretty pleased with again, like the best record
- 3:53Speaker 1: in the National Hockey League since December ninth. You know,
- 3:55Speaker 1: we've been coming on the show for what five years
- 3:57Speaker 1: now and wondering, you know, what, when is the team
- 4:00Speaker 1: gonna be able to turn it around? And that first
- 4:02Speaker 1: two or two and a half months of the season
- 4:04Speaker 1: we were talking on the show is it's like, okay,
- 4:06Speaker 1: here comes year fifteen, right, and we all know you know,
- 4:09Speaker 1: the flips, the switch flip there. But to be able
- 4:12Speaker 1: to continuously play at this high level I think has
- 4:14Speaker 1: been the most impressive for this team. And obviously the
- 4:18Speaker 1: team really hasn't changed other than a few depth moves
- 4:20Speaker 1: here and there. So they had it in that room
- 4:22Speaker 1: and obviously they've just found a way to be able
- 4:25Speaker 1: to know what they need to do in order to
- 4:27Speaker 1: win games.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not even that. Yeah, like you said it there,
- 4:31Speaker 2: like the fact that nothing has changed and the switch
- 4:34Speaker 2: flipped the way that it did, is is still something
- 4:37Speaker 2: that I haven't really been able to grasp. Obviously, firing
- 4:40Speaker 2: Kevin Adams was a big change for the culture of
- 4:43Speaker 2: the organization, but in terms of on ice talent and
- 4:45Speaker 2: things like that, there's nothing. Like one could argue that
- 4:52Speaker 2: the depth that they acquired is probably play Sam carric aside,
- 4:58Speaker 2: because I think that is an actually huge, usually underrated
- 5:00Speaker 2: trade and like a really savvy pickup by Yarmau. But
- 5:03Speaker 2: Stanley and Shen, I don't think we maybe Stanley but Shen,
- 5:06Speaker 2: I don't think anyone expected Sheen to play two games,
- 5:08Speaker 2: and kind of the way that he's played, there's a
- 5:10Speaker 2: reason why we don't expect him to play regularly. But
- 5:13Speaker 2: for whatever reason, he is. But I mean, it's been great.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's you know, we're talking about a team now that
- 5:20Speaker 2: should have their There are four points up on Tampa
- 5:24Speaker 2: in the Atlantic with a game against Tampa, like they
- 5:26Speaker 2: realistically their goal should be closing this out and winning
- 5:28Speaker 2: the Atlantic potentially maybe even first in the first and
- 5:32Speaker 2: the ease. Now, Carolina is a very good team, and
- 5:34Speaker 2: Carolina is is what it is. But like, this is
- 5:36Speaker 2: a team that really, like you said, we were waiting
- 5:40Speaker 2: for year fifteen, We were waiting for this Lindy limping
- 5:45Speaker 2: to end his Sabers career to just how things have switched. Like, obviously,
- 5:49Speaker 2: don't want to draw too much comparison to this team,
- 5:51Speaker 2: because this team won the Stanley Cup, but they're giving
- 5:54Speaker 2: off very much the similar vibes to that twenty nineteen
- 5:57Speaker 2: Blues team. They went on to win the Cup, but
- 6:00Speaker 2: they were really bad until they might have even been
- 6:02Speaker 2: worse longer than the Sabers. I don't think the Blues
- 6:04Speaker 2: really turned it around until the calendar flipped into the
- 6:06Speaker 2: new year that year. But the Sabers, like you said,
- 6:08Speaker 2: since December ninth, have flipped the switch and it's been
- 6:11Speaker 2: It's crazy. It's crazy to think that even the ten
- 6:14Speaker 2: game win streak the Buffalo went on earlier, like you know,
- 6:17Speaker 2: at the end of the year, early into January, that
- 6:20Speaker 2: didn't even get them comfortably in the playoffs. Like that
- 6:22Speaker 2: got them back into the hunt and made them feel
- 6:24Speaker 2: like a legit playoff team. But that ten game win
- 6:26Speaker 2: streak did so much to just pull them out of
- 6:28Speaker 2: the hole that they were in. It's been a really
- 6:30Speaker 2: weird year in a good way. And like you said,
- 6:33Speaker 2: fifteen games left and there's still a lot to be
- 6:38Speaker 2: playing for no longer talking about the playoffs, we can
- 6:40Speaker 2: start talking about seeding, potential division winning, Who do the
- 6:43Speaker 2: Sabers want to play in the playoffs. It's it's something
- 6:46Speaker 2: that obviously fans, as fans, we haven't really been able
- 6:49Speaker 2: to think about this in fifteen years, but as someone
- 6:51Speaker 2: like yourself doing the show and me helping you out
- 6:53Speaker 2: every once in a while, these are conversations we've never
- 6:55Speaker 2: even hypothetically been able to have.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, if you'd have told this is back in December
- 7:01Speaker 1: that we'd be having this conversation, we'd probably tell you
- 7:03Speaker 1: that you were you were on some heavy medication. But
- 7:06Speaker 1: it's been again, just an incredible turnaround. And tonight specifically,
- 7:12Speaker 1: like usually when the Leafs come in town, it's fifty
- 7:15Speaker 1: to fifty or in the favor of the Leafs for
- 7:17Speaker 1: the attendance. But I feel like from somebody that I
- 7:20Speaker 1: a couple of people I heard at the game set,
- 7:22Speaker 1: it was almost like seventy thirty Buffalo, which is maybe
- 7:25Speaker 1: a because the Leafs are you know, they've been playing
- 7:27Speaker 1: horrible and Matthews is out for the year, and two
- 7:30Speaker 1: because Buffalo is playing so well, So you add those
- 7:32Speaker 1: two in there, you know maybe was the best home
- 7:35Speaker 1: ice advantage that the Sabers have had in a game
- 7:38Speaker 1: against Toronto in many years.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it was either halfway through the first
- 7:43Speaker 2: or early in the second. My old man shot me
- 7:45Speaker 2: a text, He's like, how does the crowd seem? And
- 7:47Speaker 2: I was like, it seems like a pretty pro Buffalo crowd,
- 7:49Speaker 2: which is a weird thing to say. It's a home game,
- 7:50Speaker 2: but we know how this is against Toronto, and I
- 7:53Speaker 2: was curious because even though the Sabers have been so
- 7:55Speaker 2: good lately, I'm not knocking on anyone who does this,
- 7:59Speaker 2: but we do know that, you know, the Toronto games
- 8:01Speaker 2: are a big time game, usually for season ticket holders
- 8:04Speaker 2: to maybe get some money towards the next year or
- 8:07Speaker 2: something like that. Like the Toronto games are a hot commodity.
- 8:10Speaker 2: So I was just kind of always acting as these
- 8:12Speaker 2: guys probably sold those tickets pretty early on in the year,
- 8:15Speaker 2: because the Toronto games are the ones where if you're
- 8:17Speaker 2: gonna sell a game or two as a season ticket holder,
- 8:20Speaker 2: I understand why you picked the Toronto game because of
- 8:23Speaker 2: the demand and how much cheaper it is for you know,
- 8:26Speaker 2: Toronto fans from southern Ontario to go over to Buffalo
- 8:28Speaker 2: and it is to go to a game in Toronto,
- 8:30Speaker 2: so I was really curious. And yeah, like you said,
- 8:32Speaker 2: it sounds weird to say, but after what we've been
- 8:36Speaker 2: through for the last fifteen years, to see a majority
- 8:38Speaker 2: Sabers crowd against a Leaf against the Leafs in Buffalo,
- 8:43Speaker 2: good thing. Like you said, I don't even think it
- 8:46Speaker 2: has really anything to do with Matthew's injury because that
- 8:48Speaker 2: was so recent. I think it's just the way the
- 8:49Speaker 2: season has gone for the Leafs. If any Leaf fan
- 8:53Speaker 2: wants to reach out and you know, kind of ask
- 8:55Speaker 2: for advice on how to cope with what to do
- 8:57Speaker 2: when your star player gets taken out and no one
- 9:00Speaker 2: fights anything. Trust me, we know we dealt with this
- 9:03Speaker 2: literally a calendar year ago. Stephan Nason took out Tage
- 9:06Speaker 2: Thompson and we were nobody did anything. And for Leaf fans,
- 9:10Speaker 2: it's unfortunate because the only reason this is the story
- 9:12Speaker 2: is because your team stinks this year. If your team
- 9:14Speaker 2: was good, I don't think. I mean, it's Toronto, so
- 9:15Speaker 2: this probably would have been a big deal for them anyway.
- 9:17Speaker 2: But it's it's my, my, my, how the tables have
- 9:21Speaker 2: turned on these two franchises in a calendar year, and
- 9:23Speaker 2: nothing bad against the Leafs, Like I hate the Leafs,
- 9:26Speaker 2: but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like we're
- 9:27Speaker 2: some and a'll be all high powered organization. We only
- 9:30Speaker 2: be good for a year. But it is crazy how
- 9:32Speaker 2: the reputations of the two have really switched in the
- 9:34Speaker 2: last year.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I still like if I'm looking back on predictions that
- 9:38Speaker 1: going into the year, like if you'd have told me
- 9:39Speaker 1: that may ple Leice would be out of the playoffs
- 9:40Speaker 1: one of the worst teams in the East and the
- 9:42Speaker 1: Sabers would be top of the Atlantic, like I wouldn't
- 9:45Speaker 1: have believed you.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I as crazy as it sounds. Even though they lost
- 9:48Speaker 2: marn Or, I still had the Leafs is number two
- 9:50Speaker 2: in the Atlantic at worst, and for whatever reason, it
- 9:54Speaker 2: just hasn't clicked for them. Losing Marniner. It clearly has
- 9:56Speaker 2: a bigger impact on them than I think anyone would
- 9:58Speaker 2: have thought. Stolar Is just isn't the stolars that he
- 10:01Speaker 2: was last year. And I don't think the way he
- 10:02Speaker 2: played last year was sustainable because he's just hasn't been
- 10:07Speaker 2: that type of goalie. Like it's the same type, almost
- 10:09Speaker 2: the same type run that Alex linees on for the
- 10:11Speaker 2: Sabers this year. Like, if if we fast forward a
- 10:13Speaker 2: year from now and you told me Alex Lion was
- 10:15Speaker 2: back to his career average, I'd be like, yeah, that
- 10:17Speaker 2: makes that sounds about right. And that's kind of what
- 10:19Speaker 2: the Least did with Stolars and then just a lot
- 10:22Speaker 2: of things have gone wrong for them, and a lot
- 10:23Speaker 2: of things have gone right for the Sabers since December,
- 10:25Speaker 2: which is crazy to think. But today's game was again
- 10:30Speaker 2: Joseph Wall made this game a lot closer than it
- 10:32Speaker 2: should have been. The Least had some really nice moments,
- 10:35Speaker 2: you know when Shennon Stanley like they struggled, you know,
- 10:39Speaker 2: to break out of their own zone, and Toronto was
- 10:41Speaker 2: able to take advantage. But Lion for the most part,
- 10:43Speaker 2: except for the two goals, like he was able to
- 10:44Speaker 2: keep him off it. But I feel like the Sabers
- 10:47Speaker 2: thoroughly dominated most of this game and Wall just kind
- 10:49Speaker 2: of made some pretty big saves and some dumb mistakes
- 10:52Speaker 2: of the Sabers, like a couple of times McLeod or
- 10:55Speaker 2: Norris on those odd man rushes just shoot the buck,
- 11:00Speaker 2: especially at Josh Norris. Think you're a goal scorer, dude,
- 11:02Speaker 2: like you have a good shot, shoot the puck, but
- 11:05Speaker 2: you know it is what it is. The Sabers still
- 11:07Speaker 2: got to win. Didn't love that it went to a shootout,
- 11:09Speaker 2: but it's not something we're used to for the Sabers.
- 11:13Speaker 2: The four to zero in the shootout this year, which
- 11:15Speaker 2: is pretty crazy because we're not used to the Sabers
- 11:17Speaker 2: being good this in the shoot like in general, but
- 11:19Speaker 2: we're definitely not used to Savers being good shoot It's
- 11:21Speaker 2: that when we had Robin Leonard. I think we didn't
- 11:23Speaker 2: win a shootout for like ten like the whole year
- 11:26Speaker 2: almost It's it's crazy, but you take the win tonight.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Like I said, if not for Wall, this game probably
- 11:32Speaker 2: looks a lot better. I feel like the last two
- 11:34Speaker 2: games haven't been the Sabers best showing, but realistically, when
- 11:38Speaker 2: you look at the last two games, they probably should
- 11:40Speaker 2: have won both and they were able to get a
- 11:41Speaker 2: big win tonight. Division wins are huge and we have
- 11:44Speaker 2: some big division games coming up, so take these while
- 11:46Speaker 2: we can.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I think that's ten straight sellouts as well at Key
- 11:49Speaker 1: Banks Center. It's been all incredible, the atmosphere and then
- 11:53Speaker 1: the players have talked about it as well. I got
- 11:55Speaker 1: a lot of texts from leaf fans already saying that
- 11:57Speaker 1: the Sabers couldn't take or had to. I had to
- 12:00Speaker 1: let them get a point in this game because obviously
- 12:02Speaker 1: the Leafs want to finish bottom five, so the Bruins
- 12:04Speaker 1: don't get their first round pick. But sucks to be them,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I guess. But yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna value
- 12:11Speaker 1: the least any more time on the show than they
- 12:12Speaker 1: need to. But we'll get forward here with our game
- 12:15Speaker 1: stats is always brought you by J and L Flooring.
- 12:16Speaker 1: If you think can get a better deal anywhere else
- 12:18Speaker 1: you don't know Jack, check them out at JANO Flooring
- 12:20Speaker 1: dot com or visit their Nagara Falls location and beginning
- 12:23Speaker 1: a quality flooring project today. Jack's a big Sabers fan,
- 12:25Speaker 1: so he's gonna be excited about I think he was
- 12:27Speaker 1: actually at the game tonight, so I showed out to him.
- 12:30Speaker 1: So the game stats tonight, I just quickly want to
- 12:32Speaker 1: want to roll over some of the notes I have, Austin,
- 12:34Speaker 1: if you got any thoughts on that, I'll uh, I'll
- 12:37Speaker 1: kind of hit you up on it. So again the
- 12:38Speaker 1: power goal again, he started the breakout. He was able
- 12:43Speaker 1: to get the puck after Benson went behind the net,
- 12:45Speaker 1: made like a one handed backhand pass. I don't know
- 12:47Speaker 1: if that was intentional or it just kind of came
- 12:49Speaker 1: off a stick right to Power and he was in
- 12:50Speaker 1: the slot to bury it to make it one nothing
- 12:52Speaker 1: buffalo again for Owen Power, that's big. But again I
- 12:56Speaker 1: don't know if that was necessarily a set play. I
- 12:58Speaker 1: know Kerrick entered the zone and went behind the net
- 13:01Speaker 1: on the fore check and just kind of got the
- 13:02Speaker 1: puck and flew it out front the Power who got
- 13:06Speaker 1: the Savers off to a hot start there one nothing.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Power for the most part since the
- 13:15Speaker 2: break has been extremely good and the scoring has started
- 13:18Speaker 2: to show up. Which has kind of been the only
- 13:20Speaker 2: thing that has really been missing from Power this year
- 13:23Speaker 2: was he just hasn't been producing. But really since the break,
- 13:27Speaker 2: he's taken another step up. He's starting to, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 2: produce points now, which is what most people are going
- 13:32Speaker 2: to want from him to kind of validate how good
- 13:34Speaker 2: he's actually being. And just same with Benson. Right the
- 13:39Speaker 2: one thing we said with Benson is when is the
- 13:41Speaker 2: production going to come? We know he's a rat, we
- 13:42Speaker 2: know he's a really good passer, we know he's good
- 13:44Speaker 2: at winning puck battles despite his size. We know he's
- 13:46Speaker 2: good at getting under people's skin. We know how smart
- 13:49Speaker 2: of a player he is. But when are the points
- 13:50Speaker 2: going to start to come? And for these two to
- 13:53Speaker 2: kind of connect on that goal was huge. And I
- 13:56Speaker 2: know he wasn't tonight, but Benson has been with Krik
- 14:00Speaker 2: in Mountains time for the loss little while, which you
- 14:02Speaker 2: don't love seeing Benson on the fourth line, but just
- 14:03Speaker 2: the fact that you add Benson to that fourth line
- 14:06Speaker 2: the other the other night, he was able to produce
- 14:08Speaker 2: some good lucks there, and then even now tonight when
- 14:10Speaker 2: he's playing up in the lineup a little bit every
- 14:12Speaker 2: now and then, he's producing some looks. Wish he would
- 14:18Speaker 2: have buried that one at the end of the second period.
- 14:19Speaker 2: That was a great play by Tage. Again, it was
- 14:21Speaker 2: a nice saved by Wall. You gotta give Wall credit there,
- 14:23Speaker 2: but that would have been big for him. But Benson
- 14:25Speaker 2: in Power two that I think have been really impressive.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Benson had a couple bone headed mistakes in the Washington game,
- 14:30Speaker 2: so to see him kind of rebound tonight was really
- 14:32Speaker 2: really good.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And then Lion made a big breakaway save on Kneelander
- 14:36Speaker 1: after Power got stripped at the opposing blue line. I
- 14:39Speaker 1: know Alex Lion wasn't necessarily busy tonight, but he did
- 14:42Speaker 1: come up with some big saves when he needed to.
- 14:44Speaker 1: The Leafs tie the game. Luke Schen turned it over
- 14:46Speaker 1: trying to flip the puck out the coda. Joshua picked
- 14:49Speaker 1: it up in the slot one one. They end up
- 14:51Speaker 1: fighting shortly after, I believe a shift to two later.
- 14:54Speaker 1: But yeah, that was a rough one for Luke Shechen.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I almost wondered if he was still on the Leaf's
- 14:58Speaker 1: payroll for that turnover. But again, just a tough one
- 15:01Speaker 1: to take after the Sabers. They're gonna wan nothing lead
- 15:04Speaker 1: and I know Sheen's been on the bad end of
- 15:07Speaker 1: a lot of Sabers criticism in his first couple of
- 15:10Speaker 1: games here, but definitely wasn't a good look there to
- 15:13Speaker 1: give the least the tying goal.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's extremely weird. I mean, I'd love to
- 15:19Speaker 2: hear the explanation. I mean, if it's just basically to
- 15:22Speaker 2: rest kessel Ringler because they kind of thought Toronto was
- 15:24Speaker 2: going to try some stuff tonight because of the way
- 15:27Speaker 2: that the Anaheim game went. I don't really know why
- 15:30Speaker 2: Sheen was in the lineup. People can say what they
- 15:32Speaker 2: want about Logan Stanley. I think Logan Stanley in his
- 15:35Speaker 2: first game with kessel Ring and limited minutes was fine.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I have not like Logan Stanley at all the last
- 15:40Speaker 2: two games. But he's also played with Luke Shen in
- 15:42Speaker 2: the last two games, So I don't know who's dragging
- 15:45Speaker 2: who down, but I'd have to wager Shen is dragging
- 15:48Speaker 2: Stanley down more than Stanley's dragging Shen down. And Jets
- 15:51Speaker 2: fans will say it. Jets fans said the second we
- 15:53Speaker 2: acquired both, they're the worst pair in general. Our whole
- 15:55Speaker 2: defense was I don't think they're going to be a pair.
- 15:57Speaker 2: And then Lo and Behold Roughs played as a pair
- 16:01Speaker 2: back to back nights or back to back games. I
- 16:04Speaker 2: should say not back to back nights. But it's something
- 16:07Speaker 2: where when Luke Shen was acquired, I'm like, this is
- 16:09Speaker 2: a good veteran depth piece to have. They haven't used
- 16:12Speaker 2: him as a depth piece since they acquired him, though,
- 16:14Speaker 2: which is not something that I am happy about. Nothing
- 16:17Speaker 2: else a player, He's had a nice long career here
- 16:19Speaker 2: and everything like that, but that was a rough look
- 16:22Speaker 2: for him. Yeah, really really rough.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Look, it was almost like Jacob Bryson esque. The last
- 16:27Speaker 1: couple of games he played in Buffalo were kind of rough.
- 16:29Speaker 1: That Pittsburgh game. Again, he goes the other way in
- 16:32Speaker 1: that Winnipeg trade. But yeah, I don't think everybody expected
- 16:34Speaker 1: Luke Sheen to be playing in two of his first
- 16:36Speaker 1: three potential contests for Buffalo. The word I got was
- 16:39Speaker 1: kessel Ring was a healthy scratch. So again, it has
- 16:42Speaker 1: nothing to do with injury. Again, that was from Bill Hoppey,
- 16:46Speaker 1: who covers the covers of Savers. Let me know about that.
- 16:49Speaker 1: So again, whether Rough made that determination as you mentioned,
- 16:52Speaker 1: because he wanted a little bit more grit up front.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You know, Shen did fight in this game as well, but.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Kessel Rings also fought too. That's why I mean, I
- 16:58Speaker 2: don't know.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I didn't necessarily like it either. I'm just trying to just.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I wonder what that means when Timmins is healthy then,
- 17:05Speaker 2: because we ought word today that he's back in seven
- 17:07Speaker 2: to ten days, So is Timmins going to go in
- 17:09Speaker 2: for shen and instead of castle Rang And this will
- 17:12Speaker 2: obviously be for well into the future when it's time
- 17:14Speaker 2: for the offseason. But if Kesslering can't get into lineup,
- 17:17Speaker 2: what the heck does that mean for his future? Here?
- 17:19Speaker 2: Put that gun. That's for a later day. Good thing.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Josh Stone's been playing well and has more path a J. P.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Turkin does.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Uh.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Then uh later later on, I mentioned that big scrum
- 17:29Speaker 1: later in the period, and I know Norris got involved
- 17:32Speaker 1: stan Ley Shan Austlin, So again, just uh, you expect
- 17:36Speaker 1: that against Toronto, especially with the way the least last
- 17:38Speaker 1: game ended with that whole Goddess and Matthew situation. You
- 17:41Speaker 1: knew that the Leafs were going to come out with
- 17:43Speaker 1: some sort of fight tonight, just to show that they
- 17:45Speaker 1: aren't They aren't cowards, even though they were getting criticized
- 17:48Speaker 1: a lot for nobody sticking up for Ustin Matthews in
- 17:51Speaker 1: that play. And yeah, I guess it was good that
- 17:53Speaker 1: they they finally showed some some fight there for the Leafs.
- 17:56Speaker 1: But going into the second period again Lander finds do
- 18:00Speaker 1: me the Sabers turn it over? You know, just I
- 18:05Speaker 1: don't know what your thoughts on that second goal was
- 18:07Speaker 1: for Toronto, but you know that one was a was
- 18:09Speaker 1: a tough one in my opinion.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's not again looking back at that, like
- 18:17Speaker 2: this game, like you said, Lion wasn't busy, his stats
- 18:19Speaker 2: aren't going to look good. Two goals on eighteen shots,
- 18:22Speaker 2: but at the end of the day, like I feel
- 18:24Speaker 2: like on both goals he was hung out to drive
- 18:26Speaker 2: by his teammates, which you know me, I don't stick
- 18:28Speaker 2: up for goalies ever on this show or ever in general.
- 18:30Speaker 2: So for me to say that is like pretty crazy.
- 18:32Speaker 2: It's a rough look. It honestly was something that it
- 18:36Speaker 2: made me extremely worried because I thought this was again
- 18:39Speaker 2: just going to be one of those nights where at
- 18:42Speaker 2: times they looked dominant, but they just offensively weren't clicking.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Thankfully it didn't come back to bite them, but yeah,
- 18:48Speaker 2: that that goal had me extremely worried.
- 18:51Speaker 1: When that went in, you got to get that putt
- 18:54Speaker 1: deep on the line change there, and then Byrom was
- 18:58Speaker 1: late coming back because he was trying to change and
- 19:00Speaker 1: he was late coming back, So we left dline on
- 19:02Speaker 1: the two on one and Domi and Nilander connect there.
- 19:05Speaker 1: But again it was on the forwards too because they
- 19:08Speaker 1: they turned the puck over at the opposite blue line.
- 19:10Speaker 1: That puck just got to get deep and I'm sure
- 19:12Speaker 1: Lindy Ruff will say that they just need to take
- 19:13Speaker 1: the stupid stuff out, as he said before, and that's
- 19:15Speaker 1: probably one of them. They had a couple of big
- 19:18Speaker 1: penalty kills in the middle of the game. Wool robed
- 19:21Speaker 1: Alex Tuck on a rebound on a two on one
- 19:23Speaker 1: as well. As you mentioned, Wool was really good in
- 19:25Speaker 1: this game. The Sabers end up getting the game tied
- 19:28Speaker 1: late in the second Jack Quinn on the power play
- 19:30Speaker 1: the second unit connects the first unit. I don't know,
- 19:33Speaker 1: but Austland on that nice little backhand pass as the
- 19:36Speaker 1: penalty was almost expiring, finding Jack Quinn on the left
- 19:39Speaker 1: circle there. Quinn, after his first career hat trick and
- 19:42Speaker 1: four point game, continues to elevate his game as of late.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I know you've been a critic of Jack Quinn's game,
- 19:49Speaker 1: and again he still makes some plays once a game
- 19:52Speaker 1: or so that make you scratch your head, but definitely
- 19:54Speaker 1: has been contributing as of late and more consistently for
- 19:58Speaker 1: Buffalo and bigger situations.
- 20:00Speaker 2: One hundred percent. I said before the Olympic break, Quinn
- 20:03Speaker 2: was a player I wanted to upgrade on. They upgraded
- 20:07Speaker 2: on him. It just happened to be Jack Quinn upgrading
- 20:10Speaker 2: himself like he deserves one hundred percent credit. He's been
- 20:14Speaker 2: so good lately that is huge for Buffal Glenn in
- 20:17Speaker 2: the playoffs if he can continue this, because that line
- 20:23Speaker 2: the last two games, their metrics don't look good. I
- 20:25Speaker 2: think a lot of that has to do with the
- 20:27Speaker 2: fact that they are out there with Stanley and Chen
- 20:29Speaker 2: quite a bit, but that's again a different day. But
- 20:31Speaker 2: that line for the most part, has been cooking lately.
- 20:35Speaker 2: McLeod Zucker Quinn and Quinn is a big part of that.
- 20:38Speaker 2: So that dude deserves full credit for how he's been playing.
- 20:43Speaker 2: If this keeps up, probably played his way into Buffalo's
- 20:47Speaker 2: long term future again because having a career year again
- 20:51Speaker 2: for the third straight season, he's been able to improve
- 20:53Speaker 2: his career production. But lately it's not just his production
- 20:56Speaker 2: that's looking good again. Like you said, still some boneheaded
- 20:58Speaker 2: mistakes and boneheaded like obviously can't blame him, but on
- 21:02Speaker 2: that two on one just comical to watch him fall down.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I feel for the kid, but he's playing so well
- 21:08Speaker 2: that that thing becomes more of a footnote than anything.
- 21:11Speaker 2: But he deserves full credit the way he's turned things
- 21:13Speaker 2: around and if he could keep this up, he's going
- 21:15Speaker 2: to be a dangerous, dangerous player down the stretch.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And then we get into the third period. Krebs had
- 21:20Speaker 1: a great chance in tight with about five minutes left,
- 21:22Speaker 1: he got stopped. And then you do you mention that
- 21:25Speaker 1: two on one that that McLoud and Quinn had late
- 21:28Speaker 1: in the game, and Quinn just kind of yard sale
- 21:30Speaker 1: trying to accept the pass for McLoud. You mentioned that
- 21:33Speaker 1: line has just been so good. I know people have
- 21:35Speaker 1: asked me, why's Josh Norris in the third line? Well,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you can't break up the top line and you can't
- 21:39Speaker 1: break up the second line, so unfortunately, Josh Norris, I
- 21:42Speaker 1: think you know, with the way the center depth is
- 21:44Speaker 1: right now, obviously you might want to have McCloud as
- 21:46Speaker 1: the number two center, But with that line, you know,
- 21:48Speaker 1: playing so well, how are you going to break them
- 21:50Speaker 1: up right now? So I think that's that would be
- 21:52Speaker 1: my response there about the Josh Norris playing third line,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and then four on four, forty seconds left in the game,
- 21:59Speaker 1: nothing happens, we go of three on three overtime. I
- 22:01Speaker 1: don't know if there's anything you want to mention in
- 22:03Speaker 1: the three on three, but a lot of a lot
- 22:05Speaker 1: of just puck possession and taking the puck out of
- 22:07Speaker 1: the zone and the stuff we usually see.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Yeah, overtime just felt boring and sloppy. Back to that
- 22:13Speaker 2: Josh Norris's point, I mean, look at Norris don'e in
- 22:16Speaker 2: Oceland tonight. They're awesome. I know they didn't score, like
- 22:20Speaker 2: the goal came on the power play from Oceland and
- 22:22Speaker 2: everything like that, but doan North done. Oceland and Norris
- 22:25Speaker 2: have been very good too. I have no issue with
- 22:28Speaker 2: the way the Savers have constructed their lines, but over yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 2: overtime was three on three. Overtime is so annoying because
- 22:34Speaker 2: it's the most entertaining part of the game, but it
- 22:36Speaker 2: can also be the most boring thing. And tonight just
- 22:39Speaker 2: felt a couple of good chances here and there, obviously,
- 22:41Speaker 2: but tonight just felt like you said, puck possession kinda again,
- 22:48Speaker 2: not big for Toronto at all. The points don't matter
- 22:50Speaker 2: for them, but I think the Savers kind of knew
- 22:52Speaker 2: how big this this extra point could have been tonight,
- 22:54Speaker 2: and seemed like the fact that their mistakes cost them
- 22:59Speaker 2: the two goals that got them to over time, it
- 23:01Speaker 2: felt like they didn't want to be the team to
- 23:02Speaker 2: make any huge mistakes. But when you play like that,
- 23:06Speaker 2: you make mistakes. And you know, Toronto had some decent
- 23:09Speaker 2: chances in overtime, Buffalo had a couple two, but just
- 23:12Speaker 2: for the for all and all, it just felt like
- 23:15Speaker 2: no one was really pressing the issue to get that
- 23:17Speaker 2: game one in the three on three period and it
- 23:19Speaker 2: ended up going to a shootout. And I mean, like
- 23:23Speaker 2: I said, the four and zero shootouts this year just
- 23:25Speaker 2: feels like Jack Quinn is almost automatic anytime he steps
- 23:29Speaker 2: on the ice in a shootout.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I know Norris had had a great chance in overtime
- 23:34Speaker 1: as well, and that was the play where Wall made
- 23:36Speaker 1: the save and then he flipped the puck up to
- 23:38Speaker 1: Easton Cowen. They're great rookie, you know, graduate of the
- 23:42Speaker 1: London Knights in the Ohl. He went in on that breakaway.
- 23:44Speaker 1: But great job by Norris to get back back. Yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 1: he didn't take a penalty, he was able to get
- 23:49Speaker 1: back clean and to me, that was like a game
- 23:51Speaker 1: saving play after Norris obviously had the opportunity himself. But
- 23:54Speaker 1: you know, great awareness by Wall to find Cowen there
- 23:57Speaker 1: and not let him have you know, a lean shot
- 24:00Speaker 1: on lion there just a great play by Norris, and
- 24:03Speaker 1: he's got the speed to be able to get back obviously.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a great play by Norris. I mean
- 24:09Speaker 2: high tailor back and overtime like that, And you know,
- 24:13Speaker 2: I think we all hold our collective breast anytime Josh
- 24:15Speaker 2: Norris is involved with the collision. But for him to
- 24:18Speaker 2: be able to make that play again, it's easy to say.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Some people can just dog it back and overtime and
- 24:25Speaker 2: be like, I'm at the end of my shift. I
- 24:27Speaker 2: you know, blah blah blah. I think it was the
- 24:29Speaker 2: infamous Sam Ryan Hart thing. I don't think it was
- 24:31Speaker 2: an overtime with the infamous Sam Ryan Hart backcheck all
- 24:33Speaker 2: them years ago. That kind of led to the beginning
- 24:36Speaker 2: of the end for him here. That was a great
- 24:39Speaker 2: effort played by Norris. You gotta give him full props there.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Like I said, I don't know the strategy and overtime,
- 24:50Speaker 2: but it feels like the Sabers are again when they
- 24:51Speaker 2: get to overtime, are good for one of those chances
- 24:54Speaker 2: against where like they give up a breakaway and I
- 24:59Speaker 2: guess so you can say that it was a partial
- 25:01Speaker 2: breakaway because of the effort there by Norris, but like,
- 25:04Speaker 2: if not for him, Cowen has a really really good
- 25:08Speaker 2: shot at ending the game, probably does end that game.
- 25:10Speaker 2: So Norris could have ended the game, didn't and then
- 25:13Speaker 2: was able to help save it there. That's big. Those
- 25:15Speaker 2: are the types of plays that obviously don't show up
- 25:16Speaker 2: on the score sheet, but those are the types of
- 25:18Speaker 2: plays that you get from a player of Josh Norris's
- 25:20Speaker 2: caliber and the speed that he has, because I don't
- 25:24Speaker 2: know if many other forwards at the end of a
- 25:26Speaker 2: shift could make that play.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Nope, And I almost want to see like when guys
- 25:30Speaker 1: carry it out into the zone, I will almost be
- 25:32Speaker 1: like basketball, or if you take it back over a
- 25:34Speaker 1: certain point the other team, like you just get called
- 25:37Speaker 1: for a whistle and things like that, because it's just
- 25:39Speaker 1: getting pretty ridiculous in my opinion, with the way teams
- 25:42Speaker 1: are just kind of ragging the puck in overtime. But
- 25:44Speaker 1: that's a discussion for another day, I guess if we
- 25:46Speaker 1: want to have that debate. But we got a couple
- 25:49Speaker 1: of fan comments here. The fact that we had to
- 25:52Speaker 1: go to a shootout to beat the Maple Lice worries
- 25:54Speaker 1: me from Chris Parker, Are you kidding me right now?
- 25:58Speaker 1: Says when these things change, it's like an iceber flipping,
- 26:00Speaker 1: dramatic and seemingly all at once. Also Wolf stood on
- 26:04Speaker 1: his head, but Lyon was better and good game for
- 26:06Speaker 1: both teams from Roger Matthews. So thank you to the
- 26:08Speaker 1: fan comments for that one. And then in the shootout,
- 26:12Speaker 1: you know, Jack Quinn gets the winner, Tuck gets the
- 26:14Speaker 1: insurance marker, Lion makes all three saves. Got to be
- 26:18Speaker 1: pretty pleased with that again. You know, yes, you don't
- 26:20Speaker 1: want to go to a shootout to be a Matthews
- 26:23Speaker 1: list leafs, of course not. But the fact that they
- 26:25Speaker 1: get the two points. You know, I don't think we're
- 26:28Speaker 1: really complaining at this point.
- 26:30Speaker 2: No, I mean, you'd obviously like that game to end
- 26:32Speaker 2: in regulation. But you got to give Joseph Wall credit, Like,
- 26:36Speaker 2: if not for him, this game doesn't go to the shootout,
- 26:39Speaker 2: like at five on five. In this game, for the
- 26:41Speaker 2: most part, Buffalo was in full control, but Wall made
- 26:43Speaker 2: a couple of really big saves to get Toronto a
- 26:46Speaker 2: point there. Like Unfortunately, just because they're season's over, players
- 26:51Speaker 2: like Wall are still going to do everything they can
- 26:53Speaker 2: to try and win games. And that's kind of what
- 26:55Speaker 2: we saw tonight. I have was it a perfect game
- 26:57Speaker 2: from the Sabers, No, but I don't have This was
- 26:59Speaker 2: a much much better showing than what we saw Thursday
- 27:02Speaker 2: night against the Washington Capitals. And I still think that,
- 27:06Speaker 2: you know, lynd Gren stole two points so the other night,
- 27:09Speaker 2: Wall was able to earn Toronto a point tonight because
- 27:12Speaker 2: I thought Wall was even better than the way Lynd
- 27:14Speaker 2: Grin was. And yeah, you don't love to see it
- 27:17Speaker 2: go to a shootout, but at the end of the day,
- 27:18Speaker 2: two points is two points onto the next one. Big
- 27:20Speaker 2: California trip coming up. This is where we are now.
- 27:24Speaker 2: We're in the middle of a division race here. You
- 27:28Speaker 2: don't have to love how the game looked, but take
- 27:30Speaker 2: the two points and just go on to the next one,
- 27:32Speaker 2: especially when this road trip is is pretty gettable. Vegas
- 27:35Speaker 2: isn't anything special. You know, Anaheim is not the best
- 27:38Speaker 2: San Jose and is obviously young. But you just saw
- 27:42Speaker 2: that Buffalo was able to kind of control play there
- 27:44Speaker 2: and then you have the Kings like it. This is
- 27:45Speaker 2: another big gettable trip where you want to be going
- 27:49Speaker 2: into it on a win. Don't care how you got
- 27:51Speaker 2: the win. To glad they got it.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Yep, couldn't have said it better myself. And again they
- 27:56Speaker 1: got some important games coming up here, but they pick
- 27:59Speaker 1: up that victory here on home ice against the Leafs.
- 28:03Speaker 1: We'll move forward here, actually before we move forward us
- 28:06Speaker 1: and I don't know if you wanted to mention anything about
- 28:07Speaker 1: the first power play unit tonight, because I know, you know,
- 28:11Speaker 1: but the Sabers power play has been very hit or
- 28:13Speaker 1: missed this year. The second unit ends up scoring their
- 28:15Speaker 1: their one goal tonight, so technically zero for three for
- 28:18Speaker 1: the top unit. Anything you want to mention there. I
- 28:20Speaker 1: know it's been, you know, a topic that the Savers
- 28:23Speaker 1: have really tried to rectify and hasn't been necessarily fantastic.
- 28:27Speaker 2: No, the power player this sucks. It's uninspiring. It's I
- 28:29Speaker 2: don't care what the numbers say. The numbers say it's
- 28:31Speaker 2: for the average you watch the power play, it's not
- 28:33Speaker 2: the average. They are able to score because of the
- 28:35Speaker 2: players that they have on there every now and then,
- 28:37Speaker 2: and they're still you know, they're good for a great
- 28:39Speaker 2: play every year and there. But it is one of
- 28:41Speaker 2: those things where this is like a pretty easy, like
- 28:45Speaker 2: cliche to say this, but I think it's one hundred
- 28:47Speaker 2: percent true with the Savers. I am more confident when
- 28:50Speaker 2: the second unit's on the ice, and that should not
- 28:53Speaker 2: happen when the top unit consists of the guys of
- 28:55Speaker 2: like Josh Norris, Josh Don Cage, Thompson Rasmostaalian like those
- 28:59Speaker 2: are four ubert to players, and then Zucker is a
- 29:01Speaker 2: really good power play player like you should have confidence
- 29:03Speaker 2: in that unit. It's not a talent issue. I don't
- 29:06Speaker 2: know what the heck it is. I assume it's coaching,
- 29:10Speaker 2: but then the second unit is coached the exact same way.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Also books God of Times, so I don't know what
- 29:14Speaker 2: it is. But the first power play is not good.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Whether you just brought home a new furry member of
- 29:19Speaker 3: the family or would like help finding something new for
- 29:21Speaker 3: your picky eater, maybe you've done your research and want
- 29:23Speaker 3: to upgrade your pets nutrition from an entry level food.
- 29:26Speaker 3: The staff at any of the Global pet food stores
- 29:29Speaker 3: in the Niagara region.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Would love to help you out.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Let them show you why our lesser known premium brands
- 29:33Speaker 3: are so much better than highly advertised, big corporate brands.
- 29:37Speaker 3: The value from the brands we carry is not only
- 29:39Speaker 3: visible in the health and vitality in your pets, but
- 29:41Speaker 3: also because you won't need to feed as much as
- 29:43Speaker 3: with the other brands, better nutrition from a longer lasting bag.
- 29:47Speaker 3: We hope to see you at one of the following

- 32:46Speaker 1: But we'll move forward here. We've got we've got some
- 32:49Speaker 1: fan polls to get to. But let's quickly do an
- 32:52Speaker 1: update here from the injury standpoint, and that'll be brought
- 32:55Speaker 1: to you by the Nagra Employment Health Center helping people

- 32:59Speaker 1: Checkout a job board at HC on dot C to
- 33:02Speaker 1: find your next work opportunity. Today, Alex Tuck returned. He
- 33:05Speaker 1: missed that one game against Washington. The Sabers said that,
- 33:08Speaker 1: you know, he was doubtful for that game, ends up
- 33:10Speaker 1: being ruled out. They lose to one. You know, maybe
- 33:13Speaker 1: give him a maintenance day there, because they've got they've
- 33:15Speaker 1: had so much depth right now to give Tuck one game.
- 33:18Speaker 1: He did return tonight. Samuelson obviously didn't play. He was
- 33:23Speaker 1: doubtful coming in again day by day sort of maybe
- 33:26Speaker 1: a maintenance thing. And Tanner Pearson recently acquired, got into
- 33:29Speaker 1: one game and now he's out with a lower body injury.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Colt Nellis will not be dressed taking a maintenance day.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Lucan In was the backup for Lion tonight, and then
- 33:37Speaker 1: Connor Timmins returned to practice, which was great to see
- 33:40Speaker 1: for after he had a very significant injury and recovery.
- 33:45Speaker 1: So hopefully you get to see him back in the
- 33:47Speaker 1: lineup soon. But I don't know if there's anything you
- 33:49Speaker 1: want to touch on from the injury report, Uh not
- 33:53Speaker 1: one hundred.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Percent, but I will say this, uh, just reading from
- 33:56Speaker 2: Fairburn kind of plays into Timmins here. Rough said, Zach
- 34:00Speaker 2: Metsa was really good. Deserves to be in the lineup
- 34:02Speaker 2: for how well he's played. So that is something to
- 34:05Speaker 2: monitor going forward because I don't think any of us
- 34:07Speaker 2: thought Metsa would be in the lineup after the trade deadline,
- 34:10Speaker 2: but to hear Ruff say that he deserves to be
- 34:11Speaker 2: in it might throw a little bit of wrench into things.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Especially and Tesla ring was healthy scratch too, Like that's obviously.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and like one hundred percent. Mesa was awesome tonight
- 34:24Speaker 2: and really when he's in has been good. So it
- 34:29Speaker 2: is that is something to monitor going forward because I
- 34:31Speaker 2: think that again, we could talk about the game and
- 34:33Speaker 2: all the stuff, the injuries and things like that. I
- 34:35Speaker 2: think most people the last two games are just like please,
- 34:37Speaker 2: I don't want to see Stanley and Shed anymore. And
- 34:39Speaker 2: hearing Russsey Metsa deserves to be in the lineup makes
- 34:42Speaker 2: me think that we're probably not going to see that pairing.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Anymore, right, And I know because Samuelson was out, you
- 34:51Speaker 1: know that's that's a regular spot as well.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Right, yep, Samison was out. I mean if he had
- 34:56Speaker 2: a maintenance day and was doubtful for today. If you're
- 34:58Speaker 2: following the Tuck timeline, I would stand to believe that
- 35:01Speaker 2: two day, three days from now, because I don't we
- 35:03Speaker 2: don't play until Tuesday. I would imagine Samuelson's back, and
- 35:07Speaker 2: like you said, he's He's clearly a regular in the lineup.
- 35:10Speaker 2: So that would mean if Metsa deserves to be in,
- 35:12Speaker 2: he's going in for shn Or Stanley and based off handedness,
- 35:15Speaker 2: and again nothing against Luke Shen Stanley, I expect to
- 35:19Speaker 2: be in the lineup every night, something to monitor.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Like to me, Shen's like your eighth defenseman at this
- 35:25Speaker 1: point on a regular night with kessel Ring and.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Honestly ninth once Timmins is healthy, right.
- 35:31Speaker 1: True, yeah, right, Which if they value Metsa too, like,
- 35:34Speaker 1: that's what me.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be interesting something to definitely keep an eye
- 35:38Speaker 2: on going forward. But I'm also glad to hear Lindy
- 35:40Speaker 2: Ruff say that because I do agree. I think Zach
- 35:42Speaker 2: Metsa is kind of proven. He's the very least he's
- 35:44Speaker 2: an NHL defenseman.
- 35:45Speaker 1: He had a couple of opportunities a score tonight too.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Yeah, man, he's he's a very smooth skater. Him and
- 35:50Speaker 2: Dollan were a lot of fun when they were on
- 35:51Speaker 2: the ice together.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Yeah. Good stuff there. Let's move forward with our fan
- 35:56Speaker 1: polls tonight. They're gonna be brought to you by Wild
- 35:57Speaker 1: Those out of Repair helping customers stay safe and confident
- 36:00Speaker 1: on the road in nagres Is twenty twelve in honor
- 36:02Speaker 1: of the late William Robert Hunter Austin Willa will cool.
- 36:04Speaker 1: You go through the newcomer poll first, because this from
- 36:08Speaker 1: a few days ago, and then we've got two poles
- 36:10Speaker 1: about tonight's game. This first poll for you guys listening
- 36:14Speaker 1: in audio, I'll read it off. How much are you
- 36:15Speaker 1: looking forward to watching? The newcomer pole. This was my
- 36:18Speaker 1: sarcastic poll this week of Logan Stanley and Luke Shan
- 36:22Speaker 1: from the Jets possibly playing together again on the third
- 36:25Speaker 1: defensive pair, which they did end up playing tonight. This
- 36:27Speaker 1: was from a few days ago. Excited, indifferent, never want
- 36:30Speaker 1: to see again and Stanley but with another partner. Never
- 36:33Speaker 1: want to see again was seventy four point six percent excited.
- 36:36Speaker 1: I think that was some smartass responses on that one
- 36:39Speaker 1: at fourteen point three, and then Stanley with other partner
- 36:42Speaker 1: was eleven point one. Are you pretty much in that
- 36:44Speaker 1: boat as well?
- 36:45Speaker 2: I'm in the Stanley with another partner. Never want to
- 36:48Speaker 2: see to me, that's those two are interchangeable because I
- 36:51Speaker 2: Stanley's going to play. Stanley's going to play. They traded
- 36:53Speaker 2: for him to play, you know. But yeah, I don't
- 36:57Speaker 2: want to see those twos to play together again. Like
- 37:01Speaker 2: in theory. No, not even in theory, because nothing against Lucien.
- 37:05Speaker 2: It's just at this point in his career he's in
- 37:08Speaker 2: that negative. It's just by the nature of how his
- 37:10Speaker 2: career has progressed and how his game has kind of deteriorated.
- 37:13Speaker 2: It's nothing against him. With Stanley, we know what he brings.
- 37:18Speaker 2: We know he's gonna cost the Sabers at times because
- 37:21Speaker 2: he is uber aggressive, both in his physical play and
- 37:25Speaker 2: his desire to jump up into the rush and skate
- 37:28Speaker 2: the puck. Because he does have that element to his game. Ye,
- 37:31Speaker 2: he's he's so aggressive and not the fastest a foot
- 37:34Speaker 2: that we know it's gonna cost him. But guess what,
- 37:36Speaker 2: that's where a partner for a guy like Stanley will
- 37:41Speaker 2: help counteract that, either a partner who will allow him
- 37:44Speaker 2: to do that or a partner who will take the
- 37:46Speaker 2: puck away from him. And for Stanley, I don't know
- 37:49Speaker 2: a better partner. I didn't mind him and kessel Ring
- 37:51Speaker 2: in the first game. Was it perfect? No? But I
- 37:53Speaker 2: did not mind them. They did not really do anything
- 37:56Speaker 2: that I was like, this, this thing sucks. The second
- 38:00Speaker 2: he was out there with Shen not good. And we've
- 38:02Speaker 2: seen that for two games now.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Kessel Rings a lot more mobile than Luke Shen and
- 38:06Speaker 1: that's just pretty self explanatory. I think if you shelter
- 38:08Speaker 1: Stanley's minutes and put him with a guy that has
- 38:11Speaker 1: a lot of mobility, can he can be effective in
- 38:14Speaker 1: this lineups Metsa, there you go.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Worth a shot. I mean we got it with this point.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Anybody other than shn really Yeah, yeah, like every other
- 38:22Speaker 1: Sabers defenseman I think is mobile enough to be able
- 38:25Speaker 1: to maybe Timmins, I don't know. I haven't seen him
- 38:27Speaker 1: play enough.
- 38:27Speaker 2: As of especially especially coming off a broken knee.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Yeah. So, like again, we know the deficiencies in Stanley's game,
- 38:33Speaker 1: but he brought an element to this team that Yarmo
- 38:35Speaker 1: wanted to add. With a big, bruising defenseman. But if
- 38:38Speaker 1: you shelter his minutes, put him with a good defenseman
- 38:41Speaker 1: that can move, not a thirty seven year old that
- 38:44Speaker 1: might be one of the slowest defensemen in the National
- 38:46Speaker 1: Hockey League. Logan Stanley can be a productive defenseman in
- 38:49Speaker 1: this lineup. So hopefully that doesn't happen again. Maybe it
- 38:53Speaker 1: was just to give shen an opportunity to go up
- 38:55Speaker 1: against his old team. I have no idea, but regardless
- 38:58Speaker 1: of that, I think Stanley with other partner is is
- 39:01Speaker 1: pretty much the self explanatory answer on that one. So
- 39:04Speaker 1: we'll move on to the next fan pole here, pull
- 39:07Speaker 1: it up real quick homestand poll. So this next one is,
- 39:12Speaker 1: how would you rate the Sabers five game homestand with
- 39:14Speaker 1: victories over Nashville, Tampa, Bay, San Jose, a shootout victory
- 39:17Speaker 1: over Toronto, and that tough loss to the Washington Capitals.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Very successful, somewhat successful, good and bad. Very successful seventy
- 39:25Speaker 1: five percent.
- 39:26Speaker 2: I don't know how you are anything but very successful.
- 39:29Speaker 2: You won every game but one. MC. Let's not get
- 39:35Speaker 2: too far ahead of ourselves here in Buffalo in sports
- 39:38Speaker 2: in general. You just said Nashville, Tampa, Bay, San Jose, Toronto.
- 39:44Speaker 2: You went four and one on a five game homestand that's.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Very successful, right, and you almost got a point in
- 39:52Speaker 1: all five.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very successful.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I really wanted somebody to put good and bad. I
- 39:58Speaker 1: just I always put these these outlandish answers sometimes just
- 40:02Speaker 1: to see if somebody does bite on him. But yeah,
- 40:04Speaker 1: I think going four four and one, you could almost
- 40:07Speaker 1: say four to oh to one because what they were
- 40:09Speaker 1: a minute twenty away from getting a point against Washington.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Considering where the Sabers have been the last fourteen years,
- 40:14Speaker 1: pretty successful home stand So that one's pretty self explanatory.
- 40:18Speaker 1: And the last poll tonight Player of the game options
- 40:21Speaker 1: were Jack Quinn, Alex Lyon, Owen Power, Rasmus Dallen. Again,
- 40:24Speaker 1: this poll is still ongoing, so uh, this was fifteen
- 40:28Speaker 1: minutes ago before we started that. I took the last
- 40:30Speaker 1: screenshot of it. Alex Lyon is winning at forty four
- 40:33Speaker 1: point one percent, Jack Quinn and Rasmus Dallin are tied
- 40:35Speaker 1: with twenty two point one, and Owen Power was last
- 40:39Speaker 1: at eleven point one. What are your thoughts on this one?
- 40:43Speaker 2: Lion had some very key saves, so I get it.
- 40:47Speaker 2: I'm a little surprised it's he's doubling up Jack Quinn
- 40:51Speaker 2: because you know, I mean, as simplistic as this sounds,
- 40:56Speaker 2: Jack Quinn's scoring and then getting the shootout game winner.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Thought it'd be a little bit closer. Again, I know
- 41:02Speaker 2: there's obviously other people taking votes, but Lyon was good.
- 41:05Speaker 2: I don't think he was by far and away the
- 41:06Speaker 2: best player tonight, but Quinn or Lion, I think are
- 41:09Speaker 2: the proper answers. And then, you know, I feel like
- 41:12Speaker 2: we could put Dollying in any poll no matter how
- 41:14Speaker 2: right plays, and he's going to get a lot of
- 41:16Speaker 2: votes just because that's how good he's been.
- 41:18Speaker 1: I was trying to find a fourth person and he
- 41:19Speaker 1: had three key block shots.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Yeah. I feel we could put Dollien on this pol
- 41:23Speaker 2: almost any game, no matter what his game looks like,
- 41:25Speaker 2: and he'll get votes. That's how good he's been.
- 41:27Speaker 1: The poll at the live moment again not on here,
- 41:30Speaker 1: it's thirty eight percent for Lion, twenty nine for Quinn,
- 41:33Speaker 1: twenty five for Dolling. So it's changed a little bit
- 41:35Speaker 1: since I took the screen shot, but Lyon wins this
- 41:39Speaker 1: poll here. Jack Quinn, you know, coming off that four
- 41:42Speaker 1: point game, gets the shootout winner, gets that game tying goal.
- 41:45Speaker 1: He would have been my vote tonight. Even Art sailed
- 41:48Speaker 1: on the two on one that was just hilarious, but
- 41:51Speaker 1: more hilarious that they won. If they would have lost,
- 41:53Speaker 1: maybe we'd be looking back on that and saying, you know,
- 41:55Speaker 1: what the hell happened there? But an Owen Power. I know,
- 41:58Speaker 1: you know half the fan base wants this guy. You know,
- 42:02Speaker 1: I don't want to say anything negative about the guys,
- 42:04Speaker 1: you know they definitely don't like the guy. And then
- 42:08Speaker 1: that first goal.
- 42:09Speaker 2: That first goal being oh in Power assisted by Zach Benson.
- 42:12Speaker 2: You just know there were people in South Buffalo just
- 42:14Speaker 2: folming at the mouth, like livid.
- 42:17Speaker 1: And then when he turned it over for the least
- 42:19Speaker 1: second goal, I figured the pitchforks were going to be
- 42:21Speaker 1: back out again.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Oh I'm sure they were.
- 42:26Speaker 1: So there's it for our fan polls. Thank you to
- 42:28Speaker 1: everybody contributing on those. Again, you can give us a
- 42:30Speaker 1: follow on Exit Saber Samantics for all of our fan poles.
- 42:33Speaker 1: You can get get connected with our shows as well. Austin.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Let's as we kind of move forward here, we know
- 42:42Speaker 1: where they are in the standings. We know, you know
- 42:44Speaker 1: how important these last fifteen games or so are I know,
- 42:48Speaker 1: Beck Mallenstein broke a statistic as well. I don't know
- 42:50Speaker 1: if you had any quick thoughts on that. I had
- 42:52Speaker 1: this as well, with the fastest skating speed this season
- 42:56Speaker 1: twenty four point nine to four. I can't believe McDavid's
- 42:59Speaker 1: not first, let alone second. But you know, Blenstein on
- 43:02Speaker 1: that really nice goal the other night. Obviously get gets
- 43:06Speaker 1: on this poll. But I think Malenstein as of late,
- 43:09Speaker 1: just in general his play, I think he's brought a lot. Obviously,
- 43:11Speaker 1: we know what he brings on the gritty side, He's fought,
- 43:14Speaker 1: but he's he's also you know, generating some offensive opportunities
- 43:17Speaker 1: on that fourth line. I think, you know, considering what
- 43:19Speaker 1: they gave up for him a few years ago, when
- 43:21Speaker 1: we were pretty critical of Kevin Adams were giving up
- 43:24Speaker 1: a second round pick for this guy. I think this
- 43:26Speaker 1: season especially, he's been able to say, okay, you know
- 43:30Speaker 1: what he might be worth what they gave up for him,
- 43:32Speaker 1: you know, at least in some certain aspects. But I
- 43:35Speaker 1: think Mallenstein's played well lately in that that line in general.
- 43:38Speaker 1: When Kerk got acquired as well.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that was gonna be my broad point is
- 43:43Speaker 2: Molenstein's been really good this year. But the fourth line
- 43:45Speaker 2: in general since the Kerrick acquisition, whether it's been Benson
- 43:49Speaker 2: on that wing or Crebs on that wing or honestly,
- 43:52Speaker 2: even though it was one game, I like Pearson on
- 43:54Speaker 2: that fourth line too. It just seems like Kerrick is
- 43:57Speaker 2: gonna seamlessly fit in and make that fourth line relevant,
- 44:02Speaker 2: but like relevant in the way where they're gonna play
- 44:06Speaker 2: the way the fourth line should be playing. And nothing
- 44:08Speaker 2: against Crebs, who I love Peyton credits, but you know,
- 44:11Speaker 2: as much as Peyton Krebs has that dog and gritting
- 44:14Speaker 2: this to his game, he knows he wants to try
- 44:16Speaker 2: and give more because he is a little bit more skilled.
- 44:20Speaker 2: When you have Krick and Maleenstein on that line, you
- 44:23Speaker 2: know what you're gonna get and they're gonna go out
- 44:24Speaker 2: and do it every single night. And the fact that
- 44:27Speaker 2: it's led to offense. I mean, Carrick's got points in
- 44:29Speaker 2: three of five games since joining the Sabers, Like that's huge.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Maleainstein scored that beautiful goal against San Jose. He's producing,
- 44:34Speaker 2: he's a threat. It's coming together, and this is a
- 44:37Speaker 2: fourth line that you can feel confident going into a
- 44:39Speaker 2: playoff series with Like, I know I can put Sam Kerrick,
- 44:42Speaker 2: Beck Mallenstein on the ice with anybody and I know
- 44:45Speaker 2: they're gonna, you know, get the job done. That's huge
- 44:49Speaker 2: in a playoff series. Again, I know it's weird to
- 44:50Speaker 2: be talking about that because we don't really know what
- 44:52Speaker 2: that's like for Buffalo, but it's something that that Kerrick
- 44:57Speaker 2: acquisition sneaky, sneaky good by Yarmo at least.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Early on Any quick thoughts on this graphic A sports
- 45:02Speaker 1: A head up. It's now thirty six and two since
- 45:04Speaker 1: December ninth.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I just mean, it's it's crazy. The fact that
- 45:10Speaker 2: I pick a number here, it's all surprising. I'll highlight
- 45:14Speaker 2: the goal with that ding just to give lucat In
- 45:15Speaker 2: and line In their flowers because they deserve it. The
- 45:18Speaker 2: fact that they've been this good for this long on
- 45:21Speaker 2: a stretch is spectacular. And they've had their works, you
- 45:24Speaker 2: know what I mean. Like obviously lucan In gave up
- 45:26Speaker 2: seven in the Tampa Bay game, not great. Line gave
- 45:28Speaker 2: up three in the Sharks game, and then two to one,
- 45:30Speaker 2: sixteen or eighteen shots tonight. But they're just steady. They're
- 45:35Speaker 2: steady night In and night out, you can put either
- 45:37Speaker 2: one in the net. No, you're gonna get a somewhat
- 45:39Speaker 2: quality performance, if not super good performance. That's a debate
- 45:45Speaker 2: I think we'll have to have later. But it night
- 45:48Speaker 2: by night, it might shift to who we think is
- 45:50Speaker 2: going to start Game one for the Sabers, which is
- 45:52Speaker 2: a good problem to have until it's time to make
- 45:54Speaker 2: that decision.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Never thought we'd be talking about that on this show
- 45:57Speaker 1: this year, but again, look at at what they've done
- 46:01Speaker 1: since the uh, since the Olympic break, you know, only
- 46:04Speaker 1: one loss, you know, pretty solid there. Got to got
- 46:07Speaker 1: to be pretty pleased with how everything's gone. Again, Yes,
- 46:10Speaker 1: you wouldn't have wanted to go to a shootout tonight
- 46:12Speaker 1: against the least, but it is what it is. They
- 46:14Speaker 1: still got the two points. We're really, you know, picking
- 46:17Speaker 1: out small straws here to try to find negatives of
- 46:19Speaker 1: their game as of late. But you know, any quick
- 46:22Speaker 1: thoughts on sort of the stretch after the Olympics, I
- 46:25Speaker 1: think it's pretty self explanatory.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Yep. And like you said, I mean, are we gonna nitpick?
- 46:31Speaker 2: But as the team becomes better and becomes a really
- 46:33Speaker 2: good NHL team, we're gonna have to nitpick because that's
- 46:36Speaker 2: kind of what you do, right, Like, when things go wrong,
- 46:38Speaker 2: you got to look for what the heck's going on.
- 46:41Speaker 2: You're gonna look at the smaller stuff. You're gonna look at, Oh,
- 46:43Speaker 2: they went to a shootout against Toronto. At the end
- 46:45Speaker 2: of the day, you still beat them and you're dominated play.
- 46:47Speaker 2: But that's what happens when you're you know, a good team.
- 46:51Speaker 2: We're so used to all the negatives and finding it
- 46:54Speaker 2: harder to find the positives that we're now going to
- 46:57Speaker 2: have to pick on the smaller things. And as annoying
- 46:58Speaker 2: as it might be because it's the first year, we
- 47:00Speaker 2: kind of just want to sit back and enjoy it.
- 47:02Speaker 2: We're still sports fans. We're still going to pick up
- 47:04Speaker 2: the negatives. And if you wanted to talk, Yeah, the
- 47:06Speaker 2: last two games haven't maybe haven't been their best, but
- 47:10Speaker 2: when you're you know, when you're eight and one in
- 47:13Speaker 2: your last nine, no, nine and one in your last ten.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Because if they would have be Washington, tonight would have
- 47:18Speaker 2: been their tenth in a row. So yeah, I mean,
- 47:20Speaker 2: of course we're gonna find something to pick at because
- 47:22Speaker 2: that's what we do. But going into this West Coast trip,
- 47:28Speaker 2: it's big. I mean, we're we're probably still a little
- 47:31Speaker 2: too early to officially clinch, but we got it. We're
- 47:33Speaker 2: at a point now where we feel like two or
- 47:35Speaker 2: three more wins and we're at a total that is
- 47:41Speaker 2: in even if they're not they don't have the X.
- 47:44Speaker 2: Like we win, we get to ninety six points, you've
- 47:46Speaker 2: got to feel like, yeah, okay, that's enough.
- 47:49Speaker 1: And I know the East is still really close right now,
- 47:51Speaker 1: but you know they're they're sort of pulling away from
- 47:54Speaker 1: some of these teams.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yeah, And if you look at the standings the way
- 47:58Speaker 2: that tonight is gone, we're looking at a team that
- 48:02Speaker 2: is Boston and Detroit or the wildcard teams are at
- 48:06Speaker 2: eighty Columbus, the first team out is at seventy nine.
- 48:10Speaker 2: But Columbus won't factor in because they're in the metro
- 48:17Speaker 2: right like they'll they'll catch teams in the metro before
- 48:20Speaker 2: they catch like before, like the say, like the Sabers
- 48:22Speaker 2: would have to get passed by four teams to fall into.
- 48:24Speaker 1: The playoffs, they'd have to fall into a wild card spot.
- 48:27Speaker 2: And even that with a we play Boston, Detroit and
- 48:31Speaker 2: Ottawa on the other side.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Of this break and Larkin's out for two weeks for Detroit.
- 48:37Speaker 2: So and cop as well.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Yep, those are the top two centers out for Detroit,
- 48:42Speaker 1: So you gotta like the Sabers outlook. I know Tampa's
- 48:44Speaker 1: coming in here in April, and I'm pretty sure that
- 48:46Speaker 1: game is going to be sold out after the way
- 48:47Speaker 1: the last one ended game of the year, So it.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Could be a game for the division essentially literally again,
- 48:54Speaker 2: but like this time, like for real, for real.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Right that was almost like the appetizer for what could
- 49:00Speaker 1: possibly be a game if there was ever a divisional winner,
- 49:04Speaker 1: take all for the division game, that would be it
- 49:07Speaker 1: right there. That one's going to be an incredible one
- 49:09Speaker 1: to watch. And again the standings, Yes, the Sabers got
- 49:11Speaker 1: helped out tonight with Tampa losing in regulation to Carolina.
- 49:15Speaker 1: That was a big one. They had tied it to
- 49:17Speaker 1: too in Carolina. I think they won it four to
- 49:20Speaker 1: correct me if I'm wrong on that one, but.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Yeah, four to two for them, and Montreal lost to
- 49:24Speaker 2: Santa say four to as well. So both teams behind
- 49:26Speaker 2: you losing? Oh sure good? Because yeah, quietly, I mean
- 49:31Speaker 2: Savers have sixty seven games played like they're up there
- 49:34Speaker 2: in terms of I mean everyone's going to catch you anyway.
- 49:36Speaker 2: But the more help you get, the more of those
- 49:38Speaker 2: games played don't necessarily matter, especially with the way Obviously
- 49:43Speaker 2: tonight doesn't matter because we wanted to shootout, but usually
- 49:45Speaker 2: were the Buffalo wins in regulation. They're most in the conference,
- 49:50Speaker 2: second most in the league. I think only Colorado has more.
- 49:53Speaker 2: I'd have to see where Dallas is that I haven't
- 49:54Speaker 2: checked in a while, But you not only have points
- 49:58Speaker 2: on everyone, but you have the tie break on everyone.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they're one of only four teams in
- 50:03Speaker 1: the league that have forty wins. So it's a pretty
- 50:06Speaker 1: elite company that they're in right now, with teams like
- 50:09Speaker 1: Carolina and Colorado and Dallas, as you mentioned, just the
- 50:12Speaker 1: best of the best right there. Since we don't have
- 50:14Speaker 1: any postgame audio tonight, we're gonna have a post game
- 50:16Speaker 1: quote graphic from Rasmus Dolan's comment earlier today, and that's
- 50:20Speaker 1: brought to you by the Niagradentric Clinic, creating natural smiles
- 50:22Speaker 1: in the Nagara region for over twenty five years. This
- 50:25Speaker 1: one made the rounds today on social medias and I
- 50:27Speaker 1: just want to get your quick thoughts on it. I
- 50:28Speaker 1: know you retweeted it as well, Doleens quote on you know,
- 50:33Speaker 1: just going out with his teammates, what's what's been what's
- 50:37Speaker 1: helped with the brotherhood, And they just go out and
- 50:39Speaker 1: drink beers, said Rasmus Doling.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Always always good option. Can't go wrong going out with
- 50:47Speaker 2: the guys and having a couple of pints.
- 50:49Speaker 1: But it's good that they like each other, you know
- 50:50Speaker 1: what I mean. And I think it was Jeff Merrick
- 50:52Speaker 1: that put out a quote tweet on this that said
- 50:54Speaker 1: a few years ago, the Bruins made it mandatory that
- 50:57Speaker 1: everybody had to go out and have a drink with
- 50:59Speaker 1: their teammate. It's right after the game, and whether they
- 51:02Speaker 1: wanted to stay for more than one that was, you know,
- 51:04Speaker 1: up to them, but they had to at least stay
- 51:06Speaker 1: for one drink with their teammates just to kind of
- 51:08Speaker 1: have that bond. I guess I don't know if the
- 51:10Speaker 1: Sabers are implement implementing anything like that, but obviously they
- 51:13Speaker 1: enjoy their company and it's a it's a close room
- 51:15Speaker 1: in there, and that's you know, leading to success on
- 51:17Speaker 1: the ice one hundred percent.
- 51:19Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not going to sit here and be like,
- 51:20Speaker 2: oh my god, they're all best friends. But the fact
- 51:22Speaker 2: that you have a group that is close goes a
- 51:26Speaker 2: long way, especially in years where it was awful to
- 51:33Speaker 2: probably come to the rink every day because of how
- 51:35Speaker 2: the season have gone. For the turnaround to be this quick,
- 51:38Speaker 2: having that closeness in that bond probably makes this better
- 51:42Speaker 2: and easier to keep. Like because we've all been saying, Okay,
- 51:45Speaker 2: when's the other shore going to drop one s buffal
- 51:47Speaker 2: gonna hit the wall. Well, maybe they're not hitting the
- 51:49Speaker 2: wall because of how close they are and how good
- 51:51Speaker 2: this is feeling for them. So they're all able to
- 51:53Speaker 2: keep each other honest and pick each other up when
- 51:55Speaker 2: needed and kind of hold each other accountable because they
- 51:57Speaker 2: have that close knit relationship, something we're not used to
- 52:00Speaker 2: seeing in Buffalo. Obviously, culture and the savers have kind
- 52:06Speaker 2: of not really been two words that you want to
- 52:09Speaker 2: talk about because normally it's how bad the culture is.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Maybe we're starting to see the birth of a positive
- 52:14Speaker 2: culture for Buffalo because the team is not only playing well,
- 52:18Speaker 2: but you can tell that these guys enjoy playing Whether
- 52:20Speaker 2: they like each other on or off the ice, they
- 52:23Speaker 2: enjoy playing hockey together, which is something that was fair
- 52:26Speaker 2: to question last year, was do these guys even enjoy
- 52:29Speaker 2: playing hockey with each other.
- 52:31Speaker 1: And you can just see by the response. You can
- 52:32Speaker 1: just see the response right, like, how many times have
- 52:34Speaker 1: we seen over the last four or five games Tage
- 52:36Speaker 1: gets hit, Dalene gets hit and the smallest guys on
- 52:39Speaker 1: the ice crabs Benson, whoever it is, they go in there.
- 52:42Speaker 1: Norris the guy that has so many injury problems, and
- 52:44Speaker 1: tonight when he got in that scrum, I was like,
- 52:46Speaker 1: oh my god, here are going to go again. But
- 52:48Speaker 1: you like to see that as well. Everybody sticks up
- 52:50Speaker 1: for everybody, and that's sort of you know what they're
- 52:52Speaker 1: having the problem up the QW there Whire Toronto. Like
- 52:55Speaker 1: if to me, if Tage Thompson or Rasmus Dalen go
- 52:57Speaker 1: down in that same play right now, the entire like
- 53:00Speaker 1: line out there right now is jumping goudas And there's
- 53:03Speaker 1: no like if ans or butts about it.
- 53:05Speaker 2: No, it's nds or butts. Like I said, it's crazy
- 53:07Speaker 2: how things change in under a year or just over
- 53:09Speaker 2: a year since the Nation incident. But that's basically what
- 53:12Speaker 2: happens when not only are you guys close, but the
- 53:15Speaker 2: season is going well, Like you're excited, you want to
- 53:19Speaker 2: be there. You're willing to put yourself on the line
- 53:20Speaker 2: because you're having success, and that's huge. It's a cliche
- 53:24Speaker 2: and it's easy to say, but winning cures all and
- 53:26Speaker 2: the Savers are winning this year, so it makes all
- 53:28Speaker 2: the other stuff that much easier.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I couldn't said it any better myself. So before
- 53:33Speaker 1: we wrap up the show, Austin, is there anything you
- 53:35Speaker 1: want to mention about the upcoming the road trip here?
- 53:39Speaker 1: You know, it's it's going to be tough going out
- 53:41Speaker 1: to California right now, it's uh, you know, we'll see
- 53:44Speaker 1: what the lineup looks like, if if all these guys
- 53:46Speaker 1: are going to be back or not, if Timms makes
- 53:47Speaker 1: the trip out west. You know what those depairs are
- 53:50Speaker 1: going to look like. If Samison's going to be back
- 53:51Speaker 1: in hopefully its commitment the two or three day maintenance
- 53:55Speaker 1: by the time they play again on Tuesday will be
- 53:57Speaker 1: He'll be available to play, whether kessel Ring gets back
- 54:00Speaker 1: in the lineup or not. After being a healthy scratch tonight.
- 54:03Speaker 1: It's it's gonna be an interesting Western road trip here
- 54:07Speaker 1: late in the season, and it's uh, Sabers after dark.
- 54:10Speaker 1: I don't think has ever been so meaningful.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Yeah, the Timms thing. I mean, I think Ruff said
- 54:15Speaker 2: seven to ten days, So that'd be interesting because seven
- 54:17Speaker 2: days from now would put us at the Kings game. Yep.
- 54:22Speaker 2: Ten days would obviously be when we return home, but
- 54:25Speaker 2: it'll be notable if he's on the trip. I mean, look,
- 54:29Speaker 2: you got four games, find a way to go to
- 54:33Speaker 2: one and one, and I think that's a successful trip.
- 54:35Speaker 2: But these games aren't gettable. Like I've watched the Ducks
- 54:38Speaker 2: the last two games, like when they played Toronto and
- 54:40Speaker 2: then earlier today when they played in Ottawa. That's a
- 54:43Speaker 2: gettable game. Like they're they're a playoff team, but I
- 54:46Speaker 2: watched them play and like they're The Sabers are a
- 54:48Speaker 2: better team the Kings. They're fighting for their playoff last
- 54:52Speaker 2: so they're gonna be desperate. San Jose also fighting for
- 54:54Speaker 2: their playoff lives. Vegas is Vegas, like it every game matters.
- 54:59Speaker 2: Now there's like we don't have to talk about extra
- 55:01Speaker 2: motivation anymore with the Sabers because every game matters. You're
- 55:03Speaker 2: chasing the division. Go have finished this trip above five hundred,
- 55:07Speaker 2: come home, get ready for business in those divisional games,
- 55:09Speaker 2: because like I said, you have Boston, Detroit and Ottawa
- 55:13Speaker 2: after this break, not in a row obviously, but looking
- 55:15Speaker 2: at the schedule, everyone can see what I mean there.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you got Vegas, San Jose, La and Anaheim out west,
- 55:21Speaker 1: and then you come home. You get Boston Detroit back
- 55:24Speaker 1: to back divisional games. Seattle comes in, the Islanders come
- 55:27Speaker 1: into town, you go to Ottawa for a short trip,
- 55:29Speaker 1: and then you're in Washington. So you know, again, this
- 55:32Speaker 1: stretch right here, you know, whether they come out with
- 55:35Speaker 1: the X beside their name or not, this is going
- 55:38Speaker 1: to define their season. I feel like if they're able
- 55:41Speaker 1: to close the deal.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Yeah, the s trip will go a long way to
- 55:45Speaker 2: we talked about the divisional Well, you have a good
- 55:46Speaker 2: trip here. It puts you in a really prime spot
- 55:49Speaker 2: to make that division of reality, because that's that's the goal. Now,
- 55:52Speaker 2: if you're a Savers player, if you're a Sabers fan,
- 55:56Speaker 2: win the division.
- 55:57Speaker 1: There you go. Austin will leave you with final thought, says, obviously,
- 56:01Speaker 1: I've I've missed Tavignyon. I would have loved to have
- 56:03Speaker 1: your thoughts for the trade deadline, obviously with the Savers
- 56:07Speaker 1: making a few moves there. But you know, it's just
- 56:09Speaker 1: a it's a spot that we haven't been able to
- 56:11Speaker 1: talk about on the show in five years, and it's, uh,
- 56:13Speaker 1: I'm really excited for what's gonna come down the stretch
- 56:16Speaker 1: with us in the show and just the team in general.
- 56:19Speaker 1: It's just it feels like another life, you know, uplifting
- 56:22Speaker 1: right now. And again, you don't want to get too
- 56:24Speaker 1: ahead of yourselves here, but considering you know, we've always
- 56:27Speaker 1: heard that they want to play meaningful games in March. Well,
- 56:30Speaker 1: these are the most meaningful games they played in March
- 56:32Speaker 1: since probably the twenty ten to twenty eleven season. I
- 56:35Speaker 1: know that they had that season where they missed the
- 56:37Speaker 1: playoffs by one point, but to me, like this team
- 56:40Speaker 1: just feels different. And every night going in the expecting
- 56:43Speaker 1: them to win is definitely a mindset that I think
- 56:46Speaker 1: has you know, just just come across that room and
- 56:49Speaker 1: really you know, galvanated their their thoughts in there.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's the expectation that not that they're going
- 56:59Speaker 2: to win every night, but every night is like this team,
- 57:02Speaker 2: this is what every game is now a winnable game
- 57:04Speaker 2: for the Savers. It's that's the reality of what this
- 57:08Speaker 2: team has been able to put themselves in is we're
- 57:11Speaker 2: not looking at the schedule for Oh, this one's this
- 57:14Speaker 2: one's gettable, this one will be tough. All the games
- 57:16Speaker 2: are winnable, whether it's a tough matchup or not. Like
- 57:18Speaker 2: the Sabers win tough matchups. Now, like you said, it's
- 57:21Speaker 2: it's been a long time coming. It feels good to
- 57:26Speaker 2: not only care about the Sabers but to care about
- 57:28Speaker 2: NHL hockey again, because that's kind of been something that
- 57:31Speaker 2: has been a struggle for me the last little while,
- 57:34Speaker 2: Like I haven't really been motivated to watch hockey because
- 57:36Speaker 2: why would I. The team that I cheer for does
- 57:38Speaker 2: not factor in. Well, now they do, so now hockey
- 57:42Speaker 2: is NHL Hockey is now something that I care about.
- 57:45Speaker 2: It's it's the domino effect of the Sabers being good,
- 57:48Speaker 2: and it feels good.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Galvin eight is not a word, by the way, it's galvanized.
- 57:52Speaker 2: But it's eleven o'clock and it's eleven o'clock at night.
- 57:54Speaker 2: It's eleven o'clock at night.
- 57:55Speaker 1: You know, I could be making.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Up we're making up words here at Semantics.
- 58:00Speaker 1: We could be out here for for Saint Patrick's Day,
- 58:02Speaker 1: but you know what, we're here doing the show for
- 58:03Speaker 1: you guys. So you got to give us credit for that.
- 58:06Speaker 2: So that'll that'll galvinate the listener brutal.
- 58:10Speaker 1: But last last quote or last comment is how bad
- 58:15Speaker 1: is Tage's hand? I know he got he was favoring
- 58:17Speaker 1: it a little bit there. I don't think it's anything
- 58:19Speaker 1: too serious, hopefully not, because we know we missed a
- 58:22Speaker 1: little bit last year with that.
- 58:24Speaker 2: I haven't seen much, but I guess we'll find it.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Yeah, hopefully not. He's got three days to uh that
- 58:31Speaker 1: hand thing.
- 58:32Speaker 2: I mean he he was the first shooter in the
- 58:35Speaker 2: shootout tonight, was he not?
- 58:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 58:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Just shook it off.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Listen, We're we're now approaching every game is super important.
- 58:47Speaker 2: Unless I'm pretty sure unless the hands falling off, Tage
- 58:50Speaker 2: is going to play until that excess.
- 58:51Speaker 1: Beside the name, Yeah, I think he could be missing
- 58:55Speaker 1: a finger and he'd be like, all right, I'm playing right. Oh.
- 58:58Speaker 1: I think he'll be fine. But that's gonna be it.
- 59:01Speaker 1: Austin appreciate you coming back back on the show. I've
- 59:03Speaker 1: missed you on here, and it's gonna be a fun
- 59:06Speaker 1: final stretch here. Look forward to to coming on more
- 59:08Speaker 1: and doing more live reactions like after tonight. It's definitely
- 59:13Speaker 1: gonna be a fun, fun playoff push here.
- 59:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, I mean I evid inspire the fact that
- 59:17Speaker 2: we just did an hour long postgame episode obviously one
- 59:22Speaker 2: the team is exciting to talk about too. It's been
- 59:23Speaker 2: a while, so looking forward to it having some good
- 59:26Speaker 2: content and we'll start prepping for playoffs because that's not
- 59:31Speaker 2: something you and I have ever had to do before.
- 59:35Speaker 1: Well said, I think that's a great way to end it. Again,
- 59:38Speaker 1: appreciate everybody tuning in the live chat on YouTube. Make
