- 0:16Speaker 2: Two parts story now though on tourism. So the industry
- 0:19Speaker 2: gathers at trens Expo, twelve hundred delegates, three hundred and
- 0:22Speaker 2: seventy nine international travel buyers, twenty seven country So that's
- 0:25Speaker 2: all good. Rebecca Ingram is the tourist industry boss and
- 0:27Speaker 2: as with us, Rebecca morning, good morning. So the two
- 0:30Speaker 2: parts of the story. Part one is that you're at
- 0:32Speaker 2: the new Convention Center in Auckland. So that means people
- 0:36Speaker 2: are coming to the center. Build it and they will
- 0:38Speaker 2: come and they will spend. So how much are you
- 0:39Speaker 2: going to spend? Because you're all large drinkers, aren't you.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Well, we anticipate we're going to invest about three million
- 0:46Speaker 3: dollars in the Auckland economy over the next couple of days.
- 0:50Speaker 3: But that's just a provisional number. I mean, the event
- 0:54Speaker 3: itself being an Auckland is really consequential. And as you say,
- 0:58Speaker 3: we get to do it at the beautiful new ends
- 1:00Speaker 3: at ICC and showcase all of what Auckland's got to offer.
- 1:05Speaker 3: We've got all of those buyers that you were just
- 1:07Speaker 3: talking about currently getting ready to go off on twenty
- 1:11Speaker 3: two different experiences around Auckland this morning, and then they
- 1:14Speaker 3: come back and they do start all of their appointments
- 1:18Speaker 3: with all these different tourism businesses. So we're going to
- 1:22Speaker 3: do sixteen thousand business meetings this week. It's going to
- 1:24Speaker 3: be a big one.
- 1:25Speaker 2: So you're bullish in general in an economy that's war
- 1:28Speaker 2: ravaged and we're all a bit down in the dumps,
- 1:29Speaker 2: you're a sector that's bullish. Is that fair?
- 1:32Speaker 3: Well, we're certainly a sector that's hustling and got our
- 1:36Speaker 3: eye on making sure that we can do the very
- 1:38Speaker 3: best job we can for New Zealand. So the meetings
- 1:41Speaker 3: that will happen this week between tourism businesses in New
- 1:44Speaker 3: Zealand and these international buyers, some of it will be
- 1:47Speaker 3: about this summer, but most of it is going to
- 1:50Speaker 3: be about the summer after that and the summer after that,
- 1:52Speaker 3: and so the benefit of trends is multi layered and
- 1:57Speaker 3: multi year fantastic.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Well, all I can do is wish you the very
- 2:00Speaker 2: best with it and how it goes well. Rebecca Ingram
- 2:02Speaker 2: out of Tourism New Zealand NZ me this company did
- 2:05Speaker 2: a survey I'm reading yesterday. There are three on tourism.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Three point one two million of us who are tourists,
- 2:11Speaker 2: who have been tourists in the last year, three point
- 2:13Speaker 2: one two million. The interesting thing is five point three
- 2:15Speaker 2: million in total population. That's a tremendous number of US
- 2:19Speaker 2: that are tourists. And we've hooked into tourism seemingly. We
- 2:22Speaker 2: love travel post COVID. It's real. So on one hand,
- 2:26Speaker 2: we'll moan about the cost of petrol and moan about
- 2:29Speaker 2: the cost of butter, but we will travel and we
- 2:32Speaker 2: will pay through the nose for that. So it's an
- 2:34Speaker 2: interesting time, isn't it.
