- 0:57Speaker 1: philly fans 21 and up Hello, welcome to the Inside
- 1:10Speaker 1: the Birds pregame show. I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan.
- 1:13Speaker 1: And of course, we got our man Greg Cosell who's
- 1:16Speaker 1: going to help us break down all the tape, all
- 1:19Speaker 1: the schemes, all the schematics, and the coaching philosophies of
- 1:22Speaker 1: a week two game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the
- 1:25Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans. The Eagles, of course, 1-0 after a 24-22
- 1:29Speaker 1: win over the Commanders in the opener. And then the
- 1:34Speaker 1: Titans fall to 0-1. They get embarrassed. by the New
- 1:38Speaker 1: York Jets at home in their first game. So they're 0-1.
- 1:43Speaker 1: And we got an interesting matchup, as always. We will
- 1:46Speaker 1: talk about it. We will break it down, offense, defense.
- 1:49Speaker 1: But as always, we start with injuries. And I got
- 1:51Speaker 1: to say, Adam, I feel like almost every week since
- 1:55Speaker 1: we've been doing a show, since in the Nick Sirianni era,
- 1:58Speaker 1: we always open up, hey, the Eagles are a lot
- 2:00Speaker 1: healthier than their opponent. Not this week.
- 2:03Speaker 2: They are not.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Well, the good thing is, though, although it looked a
- 2:07Speaker 3: little shaky after Wednesday's practice and then there was the
- 2:10Speaker 3: dreaded pop-up injury with Andrew Makuba. Drew Makuba.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And Carter.
- 2:16Speaker 3: On Thursday, right? And they had a couple others, which
- 2:19Speaker 3: we'll get to. Elijah Moore was actually added. Not that
- 2:23Speaker 3: he's going to play, but he was added. But the
- 2:25Speaker 3: good thing is they only have two guys who were
- 2:29Speaker 3: given a game status designation, which means doubtful, out, or questionable.
- 2:35Speaker 3: And the only two guys who got it, Grenard is
- 2:37Speaker 3: out again with Pectoro. He's getting closer. And Drew McCuba,
- 2:41Speaker 3: who got hurt earlier this week, he was able to
- 2:43Speaker 3: work someone on Friday, but he's questionable. He's still legit questionable,
- 2:47Speaker 3: as I understand it. It's just going to be whether
- 2:51Speaker 3: he can do his job or not. If not, it's
- 2:52Speaker 3: Michael Carter, and that's kind of what it is.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, already you get tested a little bit in the secondary. Now,
- 2:58Speaker 1: Cooper DeGene was a full participant. We were actually worried
- 3:01Speaker 1: more about him at the start of the week. But,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you know, he's obviously playing safety as well. Let's talk
- 3:06Speaker 1: about the Grenard thing because it'll now be two straight
- 3:08Speaker 1: games and he's out. You have to think that he
- 3:13Speaker 1: should be ready to go if not week three, definitely
- 3:16Speaker 1: week four, or else they probably would have put him
- 3:18Speaker 1: on IR unless he's just not coming along at the
- 3:21Speaker 1: way they expected.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and always look for the full listing because then,
- 3:26Speaker 3: you know, they're almost certain barring setback to play that week.
- 3:29Speaker 3: So until he takes a full practice, don't expect him
- 3:31Speaker 3: to play. But he's doing more now. He's getting closer.
- 3:34Speaker 3: We'll see exactly when he's ready. And then, yeah, so
- 3:38Speaker 3: right now on Friday, we'll talk about that. It was
- 3:41Speaker 3: the last practice of the week, of course. Hollywood Brown
- 3:43Speaker 3: was added. He's got a hamstring injury, but he took
- 3:46Speaker 3: his normal reps. He's available. He dressed but didn't play
- 3:50Speaker 3: last week. Cooper Dejean with a calf and abdomen. Now,
- 3:55Speaker 3: he had the calf wrapped on Thursday. Okay. But he
- 3:58Speaker 3: took his reps. He took his normal practice reps. He's
- 4:01Speaker 3: ready to go. A lot more added with a neck,
- 4:04Speaker 3: but he's been clear to play. Jalen Carter, who had
- 4:07Speaker 3: his wrist wrapped this week, he got hurt in the game.
- 4:11Speaker 3: He's going to play now. The question is, is it
- 4:12Speaker 3: going to be casted or would it be a wrap?
- 4:14Speaker 3: There are two different ways to do it. Greg, let
- 4:18Speaker 3: me turn it over to Greg here for a second
- 4:20Speaker 3: because some people ask us this. I don't know because
- 4:24Speaker 3: you didn't know that he was injured, but could you
- 4:26Speaker 3: notice him hampered at all when you watched the coach
- 4:27Speaker 3: tape Jalen Carter?
- 4:30Speaker 2: I mean, no, I don't. I'm just watching the guy play.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It didn't seem to me like he was refusing to
- 4:35Speaker 2: use a hand, but I didn't know about the injury,
- 4:39Speaker 2: so I wasn't necessarily looking for that in detail. We
- 4:42Speaker 2: did speak about the fact that he did not play
- 4:43Speaker 2: well and was handled a number of snaps by Samuel Cosme,
- 4:48Speaker 2: but no, I couldn't tell. just being honest that, that
- 4:51Speaker 2: there may have been an injury involved.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Yeah. Cause you've told us over the years when you
- 4:55Speaker 3: could tell if a guy, yeah, there's sometimes not all
- 4:58Speaker 3: the time, right? No, but there are times you can tell.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Yeah. All right.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So that's the case of the guys who are on
- 5:05Speaker 1: the 53. Now the bigger issue, Greg, that we need
- 5:08Speaker 1: to get into is that the Eagles will be without
- 5:10Speaker 1: Landon Dickerson now for the first of at least four games.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And Greg, I don't know if you heard Landon Dickerson
- 5:17Speaker 1: talking on WIP about the injury, but He made some
- 5:20Speaker 1: comment like, I'll be out for a little bit. We'll
- 5:24Speaker 1: see how long. He almost made it seem like four
- 5:27Speaker 1: weeks might not even be enough. It's a bone bruise
- 5:29Speaker 1: that he said in his knee. We went into great
- 5:31Speaker 1: detail on your show, Inside the Tape, on what his
- 5:36Speaker 1: tape looked like. I'm more curious to ask you this question.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Let's say Landon Dickerson was healthy. How did you feel
- 5:43Speaker 1: in general about how he fits in? the offense that
- 5:46Speaker 1: they are running in general with their wide zone now
- 5:49Speaker 1: and the other things they're doing?
- 5:51Speaker 2: I would say in an ideal world, he does not
- 5:53Speaker 2: fit it exactly the way you want because he's a
- 5:56Speaker 2: power player who's better in a smaller space. He is
- 6:00Speaker 2: not necessarily a movement offensive guard to do the things
- 6:04Speaker 2: that are usually demanded in his own scheme, particularly in
- 6:07Speaker 2: mid to outside zone scheme, where you're going to have
- 6:10Speaker 2: to climb to the second level track and second level
- 6:14Speaker 2: players square up with excellent balance and body control and
- 6:18Speaker 2: then block them. That's not the strength of his game. So,
- 6:23Speaker 2: you know, I personally, again, I'm not saying he can't
- 6:26Speaker 2: do it or he couldn't do it because, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 2: there's other factors I'm sure involved from a coaching perspective.
- 6:31Speaker 2: But I think just the way in which he plays
- 6:34Speaker 2: and his body type, because don't forget, he's a very
- 6:36Speaker 2: big man. I mean, you know, there's a lot of
- 6:38Speaker 2: guards who are 315, 310 and they move really well.
- 6:42Speaker 2: He's not that. You know, he's probably in, Adam, wouldn't
- 6:45Speaker 2: you say he's more in like the 340, 345 range?
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 3: They may have lost some weight, but yes. When it's
- 6:52Speaker 3: not look great, yes.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Let me ask you this. That would be my answer, Jeff. Yeah.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:58Speaker 3: We know Drew Kendall's going to start either guard or
- 7:00Speaker 3: left guard or center. Now, see if I remember this correctly,
- 7:05Speaker 3: because I was surprised when you said it, because you're
- 7:07Speaker 3: just going by what you saw on tape. You don't
- 7:10Speaker 3: do a lot of comparisons, but you thought he reminded
- 7:12Speaker 3: you of the guy just retired, the center from the
- 7:19Speaker 3: Falcons and the Bears, Drew Dallman.
- 7:21Speaker 2: What year did he come out, Kendall? Two years ago.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Two years ago.
- 7:24Speaker 1: 2025?
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm going to pull out my notes on him.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I can't remember everything.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Drew Dallman's a pretty good center, Greg.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but he was smaller. So let's see. I said–
- 7:41Speaker 2: I said, Kendall, given his physical and athletic limitations, may
- 7:44Speaker 2: not be for every coach in every scheme, but my
- 7:48Speaker 2: sense watching his tape is that I would not be
- 7:49Speaker 2: surprised if he becomes a starter with more development and
- 7:54Speaker 2: coaching and plays the OC position at a consistent execution
- 7:57Speaker 2: level for many years. You know, I thought that, I said,
- 8:02Speaker 2: while Kendall did not move D lineman in the run game,
- 8:05Speaker 2: he was quick with his snap to snap with clean
- 8:07Speaker 2: footwork and excellent balance and body control. and precise hand placement,
- 8:11Speaker 2: and he worked low to high lifting and gaining leverage
- 8:14Speaker 2: to sustain, especially on back blocks in the gap scheme
- 8:17Speaker 2: run game, which obviously you're not going to see from
- 8:19Speaker 2: the Eagles. He was featured on outside pulls in the
- 8:22Speaker 2: run game in college. He had more than functional mobility
- 8:26Speaker 2: with the balance and body control to line up and
- 8:28Speaker 2: strike targets on the move, which is a big deal
- 8:30Speaker 2: on this run game. So, yeah, I liked him. I mean,
- 8:34Speaker 2: there's a reason he's drafted where he was. I mean,
- 8:36Speaker 2: but he is 6'4 and an 8'308. He's not a
- 8:38Speaker 2: little man.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you said in your report that you could
- 8:44Speaker 1: see him becoming a starter, and I don't know if
- 8:47Speaker 1: you thought by week two of his second year, when
- 8:50Speaker 1: he only played 80-some-odd snaps as a rookie, but this
- 8:53Speaker 1: is what we're looking at here. I know the Eagles
- 8:56Speaker 1: did some interesting things. They had Fred Johnson running at
- 8:58Speaker 1: left guard while the media was watching, which could all
- 9:01Speaker 1: just be fun and games for the media while they're watching.
- 9:04Speaker 1: And the reality here, Greg and Adam, is even if
- 9:09Speaker 1: drew Kendall can play well, this is a pretty perilous
- 9:11Speaker 1: situation because now they're cam Juergens or Tyler Steen, or
- 9:15Speaker 1: even drew Kendall stubbing his toe away from now you're
- 9:18Speaker 1: on Willie Lampkin. And again, you're, you're just getting deeper
- 9:21Speaker 1: onto your bench and you're only in week two.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Greg, did you see Lampkin?
- 9:25Speaker 2: Did you, do you know? I don't know much about
- 9:28Speaker 2: Lampkin other than everybody, you know, loves him. Cause he's,
- 9:30Speaker 2: you know, cause he's five, 10 or whatever his size is.
- 9:34Speaker 2: He's fun to watch. You know, I did not see him.
- 9:37Speaker 3: He, he, uh, After a slow start, he just was dominant.
- 9:41Speaker 3: In fact, the joint practices, Jeff, it was kind of
- 9:45Speaker 3: interesting because he's so short. He's under 5'11. You just
- 9:48Speaker 3: don't think he could displace people, but he moved. I
- 9:50Speaker 3: was like, wow. He was a high school wrestler. You
- 9:52Speaker 3: could see that in him. But Jeff, I find it
- 9:56Speaker 3: interesting how he didn't even work any offensive linemen out
- 9:59Speaker 3: this week. Clearly he believes in Lampkin and Kendall, who
- 10:03Speaker 3: they've developed behind the scenes for now for two years.
- 10:04Speaker 3: So he's going young here. He's going young.
- 10:07Speaker 2: For sure.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I do wonder if they gave any thought. And I
- 10:09Speaker 1: think it wouldn't be a good thought for now because
- 10:12Speaker 1: you've been practicing a certain way all year. But if
- 10:15Speaker 1: playing Markel Bell at right guard and then moving Steen
- 10:18Speaker 1: to left guard where he has played before for the
- 10:21Speaker 1: Eagles in, in when he was a bench player. And
- 10:23Speaker 1: then even in, I believe there's a left tackle at Alabama,
- 10:26Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, Tyler.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:27Speaker 2: You know, again, I'm not, Jeff, I'm not an offensive
- 10:30Speaker 2: line guru, so I don't want to sit here and
- 10:31Speaker 2: act like I know, but Bell is six, nine. Normally
- 10:35Speaker 2: guys that tall do not play guard. It's just, you know,
- 10:38Speaker 2: and again, I'm not, you know, maybe someone would say
- 10:41Speaker 2: you can do it, but rarely ever, you know, I
- 10:45Speaker 2: think the tallest we've really seen at guard is six, six.
- 10:48Speaker 2: and you just don't see guys 6'9. What was Becton?
- 10:51Speaker 1: Was Becton not taller than that? I thought he was.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Pretty– Becton, I think, was about 6'6. Okay, I thought
- 10:56Speaker 2: he was a little taller.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right. 6'9 is pretty rare.
- 10:58Speaker 2: But also body type. I saw Bell at the O-Line Masterminds.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I actually talked to him briefly. He's got the legs
- 11:06Speaker 2: of a basketball player. He plays like an athlete, and
- 11:11Speaker 2: he's so big and long that he's got some power
- 11:15Speaker 2: just because of his length. But as far as playing
- 11:18Speaker 2: guard where you really have to drive through people with
- 11:21Speaker 2: a lower body strength, I'm not sure he's that guy. Okay.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I wonder if Jeff Stoutland may have considered that more
- 11:29Speaker 1: because Jeff Stoutland liked to run it and pound it
- 11:31Speaker 1: inside as opposed to this new offensive concept. And to
- 11:34Speaker 1: your point, maybe that doesn't fit what they want to
- 11:36Speaker 1: do offensively now.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I think they see him, and from everything I've heard,
- 11:40Speaker 2: he did really well through camp. You guys could probably
- 11:42Speaker 2: answer that better than I, but I heard good things.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I think they see him as Lane Johnson, the heir
- 11:47Speaker 2: apparent to Lane Johnson, who's going to retire after this season.
- 11:50Speaker 2: And I don't think they want to mess with that.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that would make sense. You want to do what's
- 11:54Speaker 1: best for the offensive line also. And if he's not
- 11:57Speaker 1: going to be a guard, then it wouldn't make sense.

- 15:07Speaker 1: to 35% off. LiveMomentous.com, promo code BIRDS. Greg, let's take
- 15:15Speaker 1: the injury element of it, but then start to get
- 15:17Speaker 1: into the preview of it. Jeffrey Simmons can be a
- 15:19Speaker 1: game wrecker. He obviously was not a game wrecker against
- 15:22Speaker 1: the Jets, although he didn't play poorly. It's just the
- 15:25Speaker 1: defense did. But now he'll have a guy like Kendall
- 15:29Speaker 1: in front of him. He'll move around a little bit too.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Juergens had a couple of holding. Juergens wasn't exactly great
- 15:35Speaker 1: last week either. How much can one person, in this
- 15:38Speaker 1: case Simmons, kind of wreck or threaten what the Eagles
- 15:41Speaker 1: want to do?
- 15:42Speaker 2: Well, let's just look at last week first and then
- 15:45Speaker 2: Last week I thought that the most surprising thing about
- 15:48Speaker 2: the game, obviously I do Nashville radio, so all anyone
- 15:51Speaker 2: wants to talk about is Cam Ward, and we're obviously
- 15:53Speaker 2: going to get to that. But I thought the most
- 15:55Speaker 2: surprising thing about the game last week from a Tennessee
- 15:58Speaker 2: perspective was the fact that their D line got manhandled
- 16:02Speaker 2: because they actually have very good players on their D line.
- 16:05Speaker 2: They have John Franklin Myers, who's been a good player
- 16:08Speaker 2: in multiple places, Jets, Denver. And, you know, he is
- 16:12Speaker 2: a good player. Say what you want. He's a good player.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Sure.
- 16:16Speaker 2: But they just got manhandled last week by the Jets.
- 16:19Speaker 2: They got moved off the ball. The Jets did not
- 16:22Speaker 2: have any lengthy runs. I think the longest run was
- 16:24Speaker 2: 13 yards, but they got moved. So they're going to
- 16:30Speaker 2: be ready to play. And Simmons, to me, over the
- 16:34Speaker 2: last couple of years, I think Jeffrey Simmons has been
- 16:37Speaker 2: the best defensive tackle in the league. He is truly
- 16:40Speaker 2: a dominant player. And it's not about stats because with
- 16:44Speaker 2: deep tackles, it's not about stats, you know, sure. You'd
- 16:47Speaker 2: love them to get sacks and he does get sacks.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I don't know the number he had last year, but
- 16:51Speaker 2: I think it was double figures, but he does. Yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 2: he does get sacks, but he just, I mean, almost
- 16:57Speaker 2: every snap, it seems like he wins, you know, and
- 17:00Speaker 2: obviously plays don't necessarily go to him. So, you know,
- 17:03Speaker 2: he may not get a tackle, but he is a dominant,
- 17:06Speaker 2: dominant force. And you know, because I've been around the
- 17:09Speaker 2: Titans and he has so much pride and so much
- 17:12Speaker 2: intensity about him just as a human being, he will
- 17:15Speaker 2: be ready to play this week. Now, what that means,
- 17:17Speaker 2: I can't answer that. But whoever plays center and left guard,
- 17:21Speaker 2: you know, that's probably going to be a day's work.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I just had to bring this up. I
- 17:28Speaker 1: watched a play last week on tape where the Jets
- 17:31Speaker 1: were basically just running a simple zone run. And just
- 17:34Speaker 1: to get Brees Hall for six yards– the center and
- 17:38Speaker 1: the right guard double teamed Simmons. And then the left
- 17:40Speaker 1: guard sort of left his reach block early and came
- 17:44Speaker 1: right into the picture so that when I froze it,
- 17:46Speaker 1: there were six hands. on Jeffrey Simmons as Bryce Hall
- 17:51Speaker 1: was running up the middle. It reminded me of sometimes
- 17:54Speaker 1: the tactics the Eagles used to take against Aaron Donald
- 17:57Speaker 1: when they faced the Rams. And, you know, there was
- 17:58Speaker 1: a time a tight end came across and wham block.
- 18:01Speaker 1: The Eagles are going to have to do multiple things
- 18:04Speaker 1: in different ways in their run and pass game to
- 18:06Speaker 1: make sure he's accounted for.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I'll be interested to see because Kendall is a pretty
- 18:11Speaker 3: good athlete. I mean, he's just not big. He's long,
- 18:14Speaker 3: but he's, I know he's up to 305. He put
- 18:17Speaker 3: on 15 pounds of muscle. We'll see if that shows up,
- 18:19Speaker 3: but this is, he played against Washington last year at center,
- 18:25Speaker 3: but this is, this is a way, you know, this
- 18:26Speaker 3: is a big deal. And the Titans got embarrassed last week.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 3: And Nissan stadium, this will be the Eagles fourth time.
- 18:34Speaker 3: They're their own three. I understand other than Lane Johnson,
- 18:36Speaker 3: really no one else has left from those games, but
- 18:41Speaker 3: it gets loud there. I've been there. I've been there
- 18:43Speaker 3: for a game many years ago. It's super loud. This
- 18:45Speaker 3: is their last year until they open up their new one.
- 18:48Speaker 3: And I'm interested to see how Kendall handles this. This
- 18:51Speaker 3: is a guy that they've loved from the day that
- 18:53Speaker 3: they drafted him. Andrew and I were at training camp
- 18:56Speaker 3: last year, and we remarked, we were like, wow, he's
- 18:58Speaker 3: really small, though. He's 6'4, somewhere around there. But we
- 19:02Speaker 3: saw him in OTAs. We were like, he looks like
- 19:04Speaker 3: a different person. He's so much bigger, Jeff, so much bigger. Well,
- 19:07Speaker 3: his draft day measurements, he was 6'4, and an 8'3, 08.
- 19:09Speaker 3: He's not a tiny guy. Now, do we know, is
- 19:13Speaker 3: he playing center or left guard? Well, we don't know yet,
- 19:16Speaker 3: but we know he's practiced at both. So it's just
- 19:19Speaker 3: a matter of is Juergens going to move over or not.
- 19:22Speaker 3: We'll find that out on Sunday. I think there's.
- 19:26Speaker 1: A case to be made that it would be if
- 19:28Speaker 1: you played Juergens at left guard, you're at least going
- 19:31Speaker 1: with someone with guard experience, and then Kendall is playing
- 19:34Speaker 1: his natural position. And then as a center, Kendall is
- 19:37Speaker 1: always going to help somebody.
- 19:39Speaker 2: That would be my– I mean, again, I'm not there,
- 19:41Speaker 2: but that's what I personally would do. I'd play Kendall
- 19:43Speaker 2: at center. and uh because he he knows how to
- 19:46Speaker 2: play center the one thing watching his tape at bc
- 19:49Speaker 2: he's one of those guys that knows how to play
- 19:51Speaker 2: the position. That's a major part of his game, the awareness,
- 19:56Speaker 2: the savvy, the understanding of angles and leverage. It's moving over.
- 20:00Speaker 2: People might say, oh, it's just moving over. Well, it's different.
- 20:03Speaker 2: He knows how to play center. Yeah.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Jeff, as we've said since he was drafted, the knock
- 20:08Speaker 3: on him was– clubs just did not see him as
- 20:11Speaker 3: a guard. They just didn't think he could do it.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:14Speaker 3: It's not about how tall you are. It's about strength.
- 20:16Speaker 3: And they just didn't think it was strong enough. So
- 20:18Speaker 3: we're going to learn Sunday. We're going to learn a
- 20:19Speaker 3: lot about how, as you were talking about the alignment
- 20:21Speaker 3: and who's, who's over them.
- 20:22Speaker 2: We'll see. Yeah.
- 20:24Speaker 1: And this is why guys, it's always hard to say,
- 20:26Speaker 1: and I know a lot of people will do this.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Oh man, the jets just smoke the Titans. The Eagles
- 20:30Speaker 1: should go in and beat him by twice as much.
- 20:32Speaker 1: The jets ran the ball. Well, as Greg just mentioned,
- 20:35Speaker 1: the Eagles have not run the ball. as effectively as
- 20:38Speaker 1: they want to be. And now they have a backup
- 20:41Speaker 1: on the offensive line. The Jets also, Greg, you can
- 20:44Speaker 1: attest to this from what you saw. I thought they
- 20:45Speaker 1: did a good job of getting Gino the ball out
- 20:48Speaker 1: of his hands pretty quickly. They used their multiple tight ends.
- 20:50Speaker 1: They got a nice innovative jet sweep with the rookie
- 20:53Speaker 1: Sadiq to get him free for a touchdown.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Over the edges.
- 20:56Speaker 1: The Eagles have not yet also put together this kind of, hey,
- 21:00Speaker 1: we can bing, bing, bing, bing, quick game, yet they're
- 21:02Speaker 1: still working in new personnel. So it's I'm not trying
- 21:05Speaker 1: to overhype the Titans here, but I do think they
- 21:07Speaker 1: will come in a little bit more. For sure. I'm
- 21:09Speaker 1: sure Robert Sello will get them a little more fire.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Jeff had a 19-play drive, Jeff and Adam, that began
- 21:15Speaker 2: at the end of the first quarter and went into
- 21:17Speaker 2: the second quarter, in which they ran the ball nine
- 21:20Speaker 2: consecutive times. You never see that in the NFL. They
- 21:24Speaker 2: really controlled the ball for more than 21 minutes in
- 21:27Speaker 2: the first half. Now, some of that is obviously a
- 21:30Speaker 2: function of the Titans' offense, who had the most three
- 21:32Speaker 2: and outs of any team in the league a week ago.
- 21:34Speaker 2: And obviously that really hurts you. But, you know, again,
- 21:38Speaker 2: you never know what's going to happen in a game.
- 21:40Speaker 2: But there are good players on the Titans defense, particularly
- 21:43Speaker 2: on their defensive front. So I would assume that they'll
- 21:47Speaker 2: play better. Yeah.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Let's look at Jermaine Johnson, who came over, who played
- 21:52Speaker 1: for Salah the Jets, who was a big part of
- 21:54Speaker 1: that win that the Jets had against the Eagles a
- 21:56Speaker 1: few years ago when Salah was head coach Thomas, right?
- 22:01Speaker 1: Jacob Martin, John Franklin Myers, who was part of Broncos
- 22:04Speaker 1: defense last year. It almost didn't make sense to me, Greg,
- 22:07Speaker 1: just like it didn't make sense to me watching the
- 22:09Speaker 1: Broncos get steamrolled by the Kansas city chiefs or watching
- 22:12Speaker 1: Houston give up a lot of yards to, to the
- 22:15Speaker 1: Buffalo bills, even though Buffalo is playing very well. That's
- 22:17Speaker 1: where the week one part of this comes into what's
- 22:20Speaker 1: real and what just was a bad week one.
- 22:22Speaker 2: And because there's only 17 games, these games matter. Obviously the,
- 22:26Speaker 2: But it's hard to draw definitive conclusions from week one. Look,
- 22:31Speaker 2: I was down at Tennessee twice. I was down for
- 22:33Speaker 2: their mini camp and down in training camp. And so
- 22:36Speaker 2: I was standing right next to these defensive linemen who
- 22:39Speaker 2: are big. They look great. I thought that would be
- 22:43Speaker 2: a strength. It may end up being a strength. It
- 22:45Speaker 2: certainly was in week one. But I'd be loathe to
- 22:49Speaker 2: say that they stink now and the Eagles are just
- 22:52Speaker 2: going to run all over them, as you just said, Jeff.
- 22:54Speaker 2: That's not likely. Yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Let's hyper-focus on the Eagles offense a little bit. We're
- 22:59Speaker 1: independent of the Titans. So, Greg, the more that they
- 23:05Speaker 1: run what they want to do under Sean Mannion, part
- 23:07Speaker 1: of me does wonder a little bit if they have
- 23:11Speaker 1: everything they need right now at the moment. I know
- 23:13Speaker 1: that these teams that run these Shanahan or LaFleur-style offenses
- 23:17Speaker 1: that want to run wide zone, they usually have really
- 23:20Speaker 1: good blocking receivers. Not sure how you feel about the
- 23:23Speaker 1: Eagles in that department or what showed up on tape.
- 23:26Speaker 1: in week one, usually you're using multiple tight ends because
- 23:29Speaker 1: they can do different things. But right now you're a
- 23:30Speaker 1: little one dimensional with guys with only three tight ends
- 23:33Speaker 1: and you're only, they only played two for the most part,
- 23:35Speaker 1: Johnny Munt and Goddard. And we know Munt is only
- 23:38Speaker 1: there to block. So I guess my question would be
- 23:43Speaker 1: to you, do you, when you look at the personnel
- 23:45Speaker 1: they're putting on the field for what they want to do,
- 23:47Speaker 1: do you think that they are very much an unfinished
- 23:49Speaker 1: product and working towards something? Do you have any questions
- 23:52Speaker 1: about the personnel in the schemes?
- 23:55Speaker 2: Well, first of all, let's, let's understand that, you know,
- 23:58Speaker 2: if they do want to change personnel or feel that
- 24:00Speaker 2: they don't, that's, that wasn't going to happen this year.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So you have to live with what you have, but
- 24:06Speaker 2: I think Octavian Wicks is a very good blocker. Um,
- 24:09Speaker 2: that's not what Makai Lemon is, but they drafted him
- 24:11Speaker 2: when they knew Sean Mannion was the, the, um, OC.
- 24:15Speaker 2: So they obviously felt that Lemon fits what they wanted
- 24:18Speaker 2: to do. Um, you know, separate from being a blocker,
- 24:22Speaker 2: cause he's not going to do that. Um, You know,
- 24:24Speaker 2: so we'll see how that goes. Now, obviously, because of
- 24:27Speaker 2: the tight end situation, they only played 13 snaps with
- 24:31Speaker 2: multiple tight ends last week, 12 and 12 personnel and
- 24:34Speaker 2: one in 13 personnel. I don't know if that's something
- 24:38Speaker 2: they'll start to do more of as they sort of,
- 24:40Speaker 2: you know, self scout and assess themselves. Obviously, Johnny Munt
- 24:44Speaker 2: was brought in because he has great familiarity with this
- 24:47Speaker 2: scheme and he's a strong blocker from the attached tight
- 24:50Speaker 2: end alignment. He can make all the necessary blocks, including
- 24:54Speaker 2: reach blocks on outside zone, which are critical. So the
- 24:57Speaker 2: question is, as they go forward, does he play more?
- 25:01Speaker 2: Or do they feel that their best personnel is more
- 25:04Speaker 2: 11 personnel? That's something I don't think they probably exactly
- 25:08Speaker 2: knew the answer to week one. And we'll see how
- 25:10Speaker 2: that develops going forward. But, you know, receivers, like I said,
- 25:14Speaker 2: Wicks is a very good blocker. The other guys, you know,
- 25:18Speaker 2: you're not going to use those guys as real blockers.
- 25:20Speaker 2: you know, in a run game.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Adam, it's got to start with the run game, does
- 25:24Speaker 1: it not? I mean, this run game has to figure
- 25:27Speaker 1: out a way to get more explosive, more consistent, stay
- 25:30Speaker 1: ahead of the sticks.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 3: And Greg, you thought, because I asked you this when
- 25:37Speaker 3: we did the tape show, you felt that they missed
- 25:39Speaker 3: a bunch of blocks because I said, well, you know,
- 25:41Speaker 3: what was the issue? And you said you saw some
- 25:43Speaker 3: of those blocks. Is that accurate?
- 25:45Speaker 2: You're talking about the Eagles? Yeah. Well, a lot of
- 25:47Speaker 2: it had to do with Dickerson, quite frankly. I thought
- 25:51Speaker 2: Steen played well. I think I mentioned that when we
- 25:54Speaker 2: broke down the Eagles earlier in the week. I thought
- 25:56Speaker 2: Steen played well. You know, Juergens, look, I'm not necessarily
- 26:01Speaker 2: charting every O-lineman on every play, so I don't want
- 26:04Speaker 2: to speak out of school. But just my general impression
- 26:07Speaker 2: of Juergens is that he's solid, but not like a
- 26:12Speaker 2: great player. You know, look, I did a lot of work.
- 26:17Speaker 2: I watched the Bears run game a ton over the
- 26:19Speaker 2: summer because they ended up being third best in the league.
- 26:22Speaker 2: And I know Caleb Williams had something to do with
- 26:24Speaker 2: that because he runs a bit. But, you know, there
- 26:26Speaker 2: are two backs combined for 780 yards and they had
- 26:29Speaker 2: the third best run game. So I kind of did
- 26:31Speaker 2: a deep dive because I also found out that Ben
- 26:33Speaker 2: Johnson is the one who actually designs the run game
- 26:36Speaker 2: every week. So I wanted to see what it was.
- 26:39Speaker 2: And Dolman retired, but he was extremely noticeable in a
- 26:42Speaker 2: positive way on film. Like, you know, I came away,
- 26:46Speaker 2: you know, because I was looking at the right side
- 26:48Speaker 2: of their own line in particular, because Wright and Jackson
- 26:50Speaker 2: are great run blockers, which really showed up. But Dolman
- 26:53Speaker 2: was a major part of that. And I kept thinking, God,
- 26:56Speaker 2: they're going to have a tough time. You know, obviously
- 26:58Speaker 2: it didn't show up week one when the two backs
- 27:00Speaker 2: combined for 228 yards, I think, an average eight yards
- 27:04Speaker 2: to carry. But the point is, I thought to myself, boy,
- 27:07Speaker 2: Drew Dolman's a really good player. I don't necessarily get
- 27:10Speaker 2: that overall feeling watching Juergens. Now, I could be dead wrong.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Maybe Chris Cooper or Jeff Stoutland would tell me, I
- 27:16Speaker 2: don't know what I'm talking about. And you know what?
- 27:18Speaker 2: They know more than I do about all line play.
- 27:20Speaker 2: But I don't get that feeling watching the tape.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Greg, when we look at these matchups, and we talked
- 27:25Speaker 3: about Jermaine Johnson, who was traded up for Devontae Sweat,
- 27:29Speaker 3: for Scheme, and obviously they've got Salah here with Johnson.
- 27:33Speaker 3: But the guy that I liked, and we'll see how
- 27:35Speaker 3: his career goes, is Femi Oledeo. I think we talked
- 27:39Speaker 3: about him last year out of UCLA. What are your
- 27:41Speaker 3: thoughts on him?
- 27:42Speaker 2: Well, you know what? He was one of the few
- 27:43Speaker 2: D linemen who flashed in this game against the run game.
- 27:48Speaker 2: He's very strong at the point. He's very physical. He
- 27:51Speaker 2: sets the edge. He can play off blocks. He's the
- 27:54Speaker 2: one guy that to me, when I watched the Titans
- 27:56Speaker 2: tape felt like, Oh, he stood out because most guys
- 28:00Speaker 2: didn't even Jeffrey Simmons being honest. And I'm sure Jeffrey
- 28:03Speaker 2: Simmons would tell you the same thing, but Odejo is
- 28:07Speaker 2: a very, very good run defender. You know, in an
- 28:09Speaker 2: ideal world, they'd like for him to really develop as
- 28:12Speaker 2: he continues to play as a pass rusher, clearly. And
- 28:15Speaker 2: then they have the younger kid from Auburn, Keldrick Falk,
- 28:17Speaker 2: who played, I think, about 20 snaps. Look, he's young.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I think he's 20. So, I mean, obviously they drafted
- 28:23Speaker 2: him late first round because there's so much there to
- 28:26Speaker 2: work with body-wise, so much. But, you know, if that happens,
- 28:30Speaker 2: that's probably not going to happen week two of his
- 28:32Speaker 2: rookie season when he's 20 years old. Yeah.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I thought the Titans linebacker struggled with tackling also, Greg.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Yeah, well, they didn't have Cedric Gray, who I don't
- 28:41Speaker 2: know what his status is for this week. It's questionable. Okay.
- 28:44Speaker 2: So I don't know because he got a concussion that
- 28:46Speaker 2: was separate from football, and he didn't play last week.
- 28:49Speaker 2: So they played Anthony Hill and Mike. See, there's a
- 28:53Speaker 2: case where Anthony Hill had a lot of tackles, okay?
- 28:55Speaker 2: And I noticed him. I mean, he had a lot
- 28:57Speaker 2: of tackles. But it wasn't like I didn't come away going, man,
- 29:00Speaker 2: that guy just– he was such an impactful player. Right.
- 29:03Speaker 2: He just made a lot of tackles and there's nothing
- 29:05Speaker 2: wrong with that, by the way, but it wasn't, you know,
- 29:07Speaker 2: one of those performances. Like I remember, you know, watching really,
- 29:11Speaker 2: you know, high level linebackers and I'm not comparing Anthony
- 29:14Speaker 2: Hill to anybody. So I hope people don't take it
- 29:16Speaker 2: that way. But when you watch like the Luke Keekly's
- 29:19Speaker 2: of the world, you come away going, wow, that's, that's
- 29:22Speaker 2: really impressive. Now I wouldn't expect Hill to be like
- 29:24Speaker 2: that in his first start in an NFL game. Right.
- 29:28Speaker 2: And Cody Barton had to play probably more than they
- 29:30Speaker 2: wanted him to. Um, And James Williams was the third
- 29:33Speaker 2: backer in their base, and he's the converted safety from
- 29:36Speaker 2: the University of Miami. So, they you know they the
- 29:39Speaker 2: linebacker position was not exactly what they wanted.
- 29:42Speaker 3: To be gray took all of his reps on friday
- 29:44Speaker 3: he needs to get full he needs to get the
- 29:46Speaker 3: final medical clearance uh williams by the way he's got
- 29:48Speaker 3: an elbow injury he should be able to go now
- 29:50Speaker 3: the big one this is because he starts and he's
- 29:53Speaker 3: another guy who played for brian dable who's now the
- 29:56Speaker 3: oc of the titans uh cordell flatt is one of
- 29:58Speaker 3: their starting corners his quad tightened up after Thursday's practice.
- 30:03Speaker 3: They held him out Friday. They still think he is questionable.
- 30:06Speaker 3: They think he could play, but they're not going to
- 30:07Speaker 3: know until Sunday.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Yep. So that would be a problem, Greg. Cordell Flock,
- 30:13Speaker 3: let me ask you a question. He had sort of
- 30:16Speaker 3: an up and down career with the Giants. Do you
- 30:18Speaker 3: see him as a quality starter?
- 30:22Speaker 2: I think in an ideal world, Flock, because he's so light.
- 30:27Speaker 2: I mean, I like the player, but I think to me, again,
- 30:31Speaker 2: I think he's a slot, but he can't play slot
- 30:34Speaker 2: for them because they just don't have much else on
- 30:36Speaker 2: the outside. If he can't go this week, I'm curious
- 30:40Speaker 2: what they'll do. They have Jalen Jones, who's been in
- 30:43Speaker 2: the league, so I guess it could be him, but
- 30:47Speaker 2: they play Marcus Harris in the slot, and Marcus Harris,
- 30:50Speaker 2: he played outside in college at, I believe, Cal, but
- 30:55Speaker 2: he's really a slot too. So they, they sort of
- 30:57Speaker 2: have two slot guys and flat has to play on
- 30:59Speaker 2: the outside. And it's not that he doesn't have the
- 31:01Speaker 2: athletic traits to do that. He's just, you know, if
- 31:05Speaker 2: you see him in person, I mean, he looks like
- 31:07Speaker 2: a little kid. He's probably 175 or 180 pounds.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:13Speaker 3: We should mention a guy who went to Jeff school,
- 31:16Speaker 3: Kevin Winston coming off the ACL injury.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:19Speaker 3: What are your thoughts on Kevin Winston as a safety?
- 31:20Speaker 2: I think he's got a chance to be a really
- 31:22Speaker 2: good player. Um, You know, he's got really good size.
- 31:26Speaker 2: He can play anywhere. He can play on the back end.
- 31:28Speaker 2: He can play at the second level. He can blitz.
- 31:30Speaker 2: He can tackle. I think and they hope that he
- 31:34Speaker 2: can become an impact safety.
- 31:36Speaker 1: He was awesome at Penn State before the injury.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a really good prospect. He's a third-round pick
- 31:42Speaker 2: who likely would have been maybe a late first, early
- 31:44Speaker 2: second if he didn't have the injury. Yeah, for sure.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I'd really like to see the Eagles get their run
- 31:50Speaker 1: game going because I would also– I think that helps
- 31:53Speaker 1: us– get an idea of Sean Mannion's ability to sequence plays,
- 31:57Speaker 1: to find a rhythm, you know, even though we did some,
- 32:00Speaker 1: some really terrific throws from Jalen Hurts. This is not
- 32:03Speaker 1: to me about Jalen Hurts. It's just more about how
- 32:05Speaker 1: Sean can control the pace and the tempo of the offense.
- 32:08Speaker 1: And the only way you do that and show what
- 32:11Speaker 1: you can be as a play callers, if you can
- 32:12Speaker 1: move the chains and then this offense, you've got to
- 32:15Speaker 1: be able to do it offensive with the run game, right?
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. I mean, that's the way they want
- 32:21Speaker 2: to play. Um, So we'll see how it goes. Look,
- 32:24Speaker 2: I thought, as we discussed earlier in the week, I
- 32:26Speaker 2: thought Hurts played very well. Now, a lot of people
- 32:28Speaker 2: might sit here and say, well, what do you mean? They,
- 32:30Speaker 2: you know, they had five three and outs. How could
- 32:32Speaker 2: you say that? You know, as you know, when I
- 32:34Speaker 2: evaluate a quarterback, I isolate his play. There's so many
- 32:38Speaker 2: factors in a game that dictate other things. But isolating
- 32:42Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts play, I thought he played very well. He
- 32:45Speaker 2: was in total command in that game.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Right.
- 32:47Speaker 2: You know, And one thing you can always say about Jalen, look,
- 32:50Speaker 2: we've talked over the years and everybody in the league
- 32:52Speaker 2: knows this. You guys talk to coaches. We've talked about
- 32:55Speaker 2: this over the years. We're not saying anything that no one,
- 32:58Speaker 2: you know, doesn't know who's in the league. Okay.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:01Speaker 2: There are times where, you know, he, he's not played
- 33:04Speaker 2: really well as a pocket quarterback. But the one, one
- 33:07Speaker 2: of the things about him is he does have an
- 33:10Speaker 2: innate feel for what's required in given games and how
- 33:14Speaker 2: to play that given game. Okay. Now, people might say, well,
- 33:18Speaker 2: he's a winner, you know, and, and, and I understand
- 33:20Speaker 2: the term because he does have that feel for how each,
- 33:24Speaker 2: what each game demands.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Right.
- 33:26Speaker 2: And, and there's no question that, that he can do that.
- 33:29Speaker 2: You know, so the last game that they played, you know,
- 33:33Speaker 2: the week one victory, obviously they didn't call a ton
- 33:35Speaker 2: of pass plays relative to what happens normally in the league,
- 33:38Speaker 2: but he played that game the way it, you know,
- 33:40Speaker 2: when it's third and whatever it was 15 or 16
- 33:43Speaker 2: and he runs for 22 yards, You know, he just
- 33:46Speaker 2: has a feel for those kinds of things. Yes.
- 33:49Speaker 3: But my big takeaway from that game was, and this
- 33:52Speaker 3: is the big issue for him, it has been, is
- 33:55Speaker 3: throwing within timing of the offense. I was so happy
- 33:57Speaker 3: watching that thing. Greg, because I remember when I called you,
- 34:01Speaker 3: we'll go a little bit inside. I called Greg. I go,
- 34:03Speaker 3: all right, I haven't talked to anyone yet. Let me
- 34:05Speaker 3: know what you think. He goes, God, Hertz was really good.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I was like, really? Great. Okay.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Then we moved on. We had no idea what that
- 34:11Speaker 3: meant until we did the show with you.
- 34:12Speaker 2: We didn't know. No, he played really well.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:16Speaker 3: I'm sure.
- 34:16Speaker 2: I'm sure. Go ahead.
- 34:17Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 34:18Speaker 3: I was just going to throw on time, guys. This
- 34:20Speaker 3: is what we talked about. He's shown that he can
- 34:22Speaker 3: do it and he did it.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Now it's got to work. And it's so funny because people,
- 34:27Speaker 2: you know, obviously I'm on Twitter, you know, because we're,
- 34:29Speaker 2: you know, sort of have to be in our business,
- 34:32Speaker 2: you know, and I even commented on that on when
- 34:35Speaker 2: I did Colin Coward show and I got the responses. Gee, gee,
- 34:38Speaker 2: you know, I got to tell you, people are saying,
- 34:39Speaker 2: I got to tell you the truth. I'm surprised Cosell
- 34:41Speaker 2: said good things about Jalen Hurts. because everybody takes this
- 34:44Speaker 2: stuff personally. I'm just telling you what the tape shows.
- 34:48Speaker 2: And obviously, I talk to people too, coaches. And I'm
- 34:52Speaker 2: just being honest, and you guys know this. Other than
- 34:56Speaker 2: probably coaches, I don't know if there's anybody who watches
- 34:58Speaker 2: tape more than I do. I watch tape literally every
- 35:01Speaker 2: day of my life.
- 35:02Speaker 3: No, but you're pretty much the only person that doesn't
- 35:06Speaker 3: work for a team that watches every team?
- 35:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. So, I mean, you know... It's not a
- 35:12Speaker 2: matter of being right all the time. No one is,
- 35:14Speaker 2: no matter how much tape you watch, but it's about
- 35:17Speaker 2: the process. And I watch tape literally every day of
- 35:20Speaker 2: my life. I know about Jalen Hurts and it's not personal.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Right.
- 35:25Speaker 1: And then you get a guy like Jeffrey Simmons who
- 35:26Speaker 1: comes out and says we need to make him into
- 35:28Speaker 1: a quarterback this week. Yeah.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Adds fuel to the fire.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I don't know if he meant it as disrespectfully as
- 35:35Speaker 1: it sounds. I think he just basically saw the hearts
- 35:38Speaker 1: did bail them out of several bad. People say the.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Same thing about Josh Allen. I mean, that and by
- 35:44Speaker 2: the way, Josh Allen's pretty good from the pocket these days. But,
- 35:47Speaker 2: I mean, you just don't want to get hurt. You know,
- 35:49Speaker 2: defenses become totally demoralized. Like when Jalen ran for those
- 35:53Speaker 2: 22 yards, you can see defensive guys just hanging their head.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Those are kind of demoralizing plays. Right. You know.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Right. Yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Just to make a quick point about a conversation I
- 36:04Speaker 2: had with Dean Pease a number of years ago. And
- 36:07Speaker 2: he said that when you play quarterbacks like that, you
- 36:10Speaker 2: in a sense have to have two defenses and it's
- 36:12Speaker 2: very hard. You have to have a defense for the
- 36:14Speaker 2: first two to 2.5 seconds of the play, and then
- 36:16Speaker 2: a defense for the next two to 2.5 seconds of
- 36:19Speaker 2: the play. And that's a really hard thing to do.
- 36:21Speaker 3: So if people don't know who Dean Pease is, he's
- 36:24Speaker 3: the former defense coordinator for the Patriots and Ravens, absolute
- 36:27Speaker 3: legend in the coaching community.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 36:30Speaker 3: He's, uh, Yeah, he's seen it all, man. He's great.
- 36:35Speaker 1: He was a college D.C.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Too, wasn't he?
- 36:36Speaker 1: Was he at Michigan?
- 36:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he was somewhere in college. I forget. Yeah, very good. Anyway,
- 36:41Speaker 2: so that's, you know, so Jeffrey Simmons doesn't mean that disrespectfully.
- 36:45Speaker 2: He means that you can play within the structure of
- 36:48Speaker 2: your– you have to think about it from a defensive perspective.
- 36:50Speaker 2: You can stay within the structure of your defense and
- 36:54Speaker 2: what you've practiced all week if the quarterback is in
- 36:56Speaker 2: the pocket. Once the quarterback leaves the pocket, the structure
- 37:00Speaker 2: and discipline of your defense becomes compromised. That's the way
- 37:04Speaker 2: you have to think about it.
- 37:06Speaker 1: All right, let's transition. We'll talk about this Eagles defense
- 37:10Speaker 1: against the Titans offense. Very interesting stat. When he was
- 37:15Speaker 1: not pressured, Cam Ward was like 18-24 last week through
- 37:20Speaker 1: his touchdown there. When he was pressured, he looked like
- 37:23Speaker 1: a quarterback who was under a whole lot of duress,
- 37:25Speaker 1: which he was a lot. And the Jets blitzed, I believe,
- 37:27Speaker 1: 30% of the time, although Greg may have different based
- 37:31Speaker 1: on how they chart it. But the point is that
- 37:34Speaker 1: the Titans were hoping in year two with a little
- 37:36Speaker 1: more weaponry that they would be able to give Cam
- 37:38Speaker 1: Ward more support. But Greg, their offensive line is just
- 37:41Speaker 1: still a big question mark, huh?
- 37:42Speaker 2: It's a big question mark. And, you know, you guys
- 37:45Speaker 2: all know what I'm talking about, and maybe some younger
- 37:47Speaker 2: fans won't. And I'm going to just read a couple
- 37:51Speaker 2: of things I wrote about Cam Ward because, you know,
- 37:53Speaker 2: I think it's important. But I start to get concerned,
- 37:57Speaker 2: and particularly when I saw the tape from last week
- 38:00Speaker 2: where the O-line was still not very good. It made
- 38:03Speaker 2: me think of Patrick Ramsey, and you guys know what
- 38:05Speaker 2: I'm talking about. I just think of a quarterback that's
- 38:08Speaker 2: under so much duress and pressure all the time that
- 38:12Speaker 2: you just anticipate that you're going to be pressured every
- 38:16Speaker 2: time you drop back. And it's really hard to play
- 38:19Speaker 2: quarterback that way. So, again, I'm not defending Cam Ward.
- 38:23Speaker 2: I'm just telling you that. He's under duress all the time.
- 38:26Speaker 2: So here's a couple of things, and I'm just going
- 38:28Speaker 2: to read it just so I say it the right way.
- 38:32Speaker 2: I said, Ward, as he grows in Dable's system, must
- 38:35Speaker 2: continue to get a more refined feel for the timing
- 38:38Speaker 2: of route combinations, when to let the concept develop, and
- 38:41Speaker 2: when to come off the primary read and work to
- 38:44Speaker 2: the secondary read. It's a balance that he is not
- 38:46Speaker 2: yet comfortable with. Then I also said there were times
- 38:50Speaker 2: Ward rushed through his reads and other times he stayed
- 38:52Speaker 2: too long on the primary. I said Ward must also
- 38:56Speaker 2: become firmer in squeezed pockets with his fundamental mechanics and
- 39:00Speaker 2: maintaining a strong base. And the bottom line point is
- 39:04Speaker 2: pocket control is a mental challenge for Ward because he's
- 39:08Speaker 2: been under such constant duress going back to his rookie season.
- 39:12Speaker 2: You know, and it's just, it's hard. But the other
- 39:14Speaker 2: thing that really stood out last week, and this is coachable,
- 39:17Speaker 2: and I guarantee you Brian Dable had worked on it
- 39:19Speaker 2: all this week. I thought that their pass game overall
- 39:22Speaker 2: was way out of sync. There were too many concepts
- 39:25Speaker 2: and combinations in which the spacing and the route distribution
- 39:28Speaker 2: was not what it needed. to be. And boy, does
- 39:31Speaker 2: that money the read for a quarterback. He just doesn't
- 39:33Speaker 2: feel like anything is defined. And they had that problem
- 39:37Speaker 2: all game last week.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Greg, a couple of questions on their offensive line. I
- 39:42Speaker 3: know there were some real, when Dan Moore signed that
- 39:45Speaker 3: big deal to come up from the Steelers, tights left tackle.
- 39:47Speaker 3: It was a stunner. And I was told that he
- 39:50Speaker 3: had three or four teams very heavy on him, but
- 39:52Speaker 3: he decided to go to Nashville. How has he held
- 39:55Speaker 3: up at left tackle?
- 39:57Speaker 2: You know what? The last year he was in Pittsburgh,
- 39:59Speaker 2: I thought he's a solid NFL left tackle. Adam, it
- 40:03Speaker 2: wasn't this group that signed him, right? Did Borghansi sign him?
- 40:07Speaker 2: It was Borghansi. Okay. He has not played well. I'm
- 40:11Speaker 2: just being honest. He's really struggled in one-on-one pass protection.
- 40:14Speaker 2: He's been a liability.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Which is, you know, again, you they're stuck with him
- 40:19Speaker 2: cause he's, you know, the contract is not small. Um,
- 40:23Speaker 2: and they're obviously playing a rookie at right guard who
- 40:26Speaker 2: won the job fair and square a player, Fernando Carmona,
- 40:29Speaker 2: whose tape I thought was pretty good. He played tackle
- 40:31Speaker 2: in college. I thought that his tape was solid, that
- 40:34Speaker 2: he could be an NFL starter, but he's a rookie,
- 40:36Speaker 2: you know, and obviously this week he'd be going up
- 40:38Speaker 2: against Jalen Carter and assuming Carter's healthy, you know, that's
- 40:42Speaker 2: something that we have to look at in this game.
- 40:44Speaker 2: We'll see how that plays out. Um, They brought in
- 40:46Speaker 2: Austin Schlottman to play center because he knows Dable's offense
- 40:51Speaker 2: extremely well. And in an ideal world, they want to
- 40:54Speaker 2: play with some kind of tempo. And they don't want
- 40:57Speaker 2: Ward to have to deal with protections. Not that he's incapable.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I've been around Cam Ward. He's a very impressive young man.
- 41:03Speaker 2: But they just want the center to deal with all that.
- 41:06Speaker 2: And Schlottman knows Brian Dable's offense.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Jeff, other than dead money. They don't owe Dan Moore
- 41:13Speaker 3: a dime after the season. Then he might not be
- 41:16Speaker 3: there after the season. Look, it's tough.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Well, how about Latham? Is he playing any better at
- 41:21Speaker 1: right tackle?
- 41:22Speaker 2: A little bit. And again, they did not draft Latham.
- 41:26Speaker 2: That was the previous. That was Rand Carthon. And by
- 41:29Speaker 2: the way, a lot of people like Latham. I spoke
- 41:32Speaker 2: to a number of O-line coaches in the league who
- 41:34Speaker 2: thought Latham could be a left tackle, which he started
- 41:37Speaker 2: out with the Titans, and he really had a hard
- 41:39Speaker 2: time his rookie season. He's better– at right tackle, but
- 41:43Speaker 2: he still needs to be even better. So what they wanted,
- 41:47Speaker 2: I was going to add what they wanted that previous regime.
- 41:50Speaker 2: I was told they want to draft Joe alt. And
- 41:52Speaker 2: then they had to, they had to go to a
- 41:53Speaker 2: different direction when the chargers took them. And then Latham,
- 41:56Speaker 2: as Greg said, it just didn't, he didn't look good
- 41:59Speaker 2: as a rookie, but man, Greg just outlined all their
- 42:02Speaker 2: issues on their offensive line. And, you know, Vic Fangio,
- 42:06Speaker 2: the Eagles defense coordinator kind of made it clear. He
- 42:08Speaker 2: wasn't totally happy with their pass rush. Yeah.
- 42:10Speaker 3: This is the remedy.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you wish you'd have Grenard, right, to
- 42:14Speaker 1: take advantage of the fact that Moore is not a
- 42:16Speaker 1: great tackle, but he's out. But nonetheless, Cam Ward does
- 42:19Speaker 1: not make moves like Jaden Daniels does. So you'll have
- 42:22Speaker 1: a really good opportunity here, or pretty early, to assert yourself,
- 42:26Speaker 1: get a guy who's already, as Greg said, sort of
- 42:29Speaker 1: playing like he's under duress, even before he's under duress,
- 42:31Speaker 1: and then capitalize that and kind of bring the hammer down.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and Ward, you know, one of the things that
- 42:37Speaker 2: he clearly needed to work on, which I saw last
- 42:39Speaker 2: year as a rookie and actually had this conversation with
- 42:42Speaker 2: When I was down in Tennessee, actually, I think it
- 42:45Speaker 2: was with the head coach, because everybody knows it. If
- 42:48Speaker 2: you watch tape, you know it. They really need to
- 42:50Speaker 2: work on his footwork and his fundamental mechanics. And the
- 42:53Speaker 2: problem is when you feel like you're under duress, all
- 42:57Speaker 2: that kind of falls apart a little bit. Because when
- 43:00Speaker 2: I was down for minicamp, I could tell that he
- 43:02Speaker 2: was really working on it and looked so much smoother.
- 43:06Speaker 2: But then you get in the games and everything happens
- 43:08Speaker 2: so fast. As we've discussed, it's a game of milliseconds,
- 43:12Speaker 2: and you just feel like you're going to be under pressure,
- 43:15Speaker 2: and it's just you revert back. Sure.
- 43:18Speaker 1: How did they deploy Carnell Tate? Obviously, they're working through Tate.
- 43:24Speaker 1: They bring in Wandale Robinson to play the slot. Ioman
- 43:27Speaker 1: Orn is in his second year. He made a couple
- 43:29Speaker 1: of plays last year that were interesting, and then I
- 43:31Speaker 1: think Calvin Ridley had, what, no targets?
- 43:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, the way– Dable's background is more from sort
- 43:38Speaker 2: of the Perkins-Erhart school of passing game, where you have
- 43:44Speaker 2: your route concepts, but you can run them from multiple
- 43:47Speaker 2: formation looks. So they're not necessarily, he's an X, he's
- 43:51Speaker 2: a Z, he's a slot. They're more into the fact that, hey,
- 43:54Speaker 2: here's our route concepts, and we can run them from
- 43:58Speaker 2: multiple formations. It's not like the Texans and Nico Collins
- 44:03Speaker 2: or a team that, hey, this guy's an X. They
- 44:05Speaker 2: don't really do it like that. They do it where
- 44:08Speaker 2: pretty much everybody can run everything, so to speak. You know,
- 44:11Speaker 2: it's based on the concepts. Got it.
- 44:13Speaker 1: So there were times that Wanda Robinson lined up outside?
- 44:16Speaker 2: He's not an X per se, but yeah, he could line.
- 44:19Speaker 2: And they go in motion a little bit. Although the
- 44:21Speaker 2: one thing that they need to, in my view, again,
- 44:23Speaker 2: I'm just giving you my opinion. I think they play
- 44:26Speaker 2: in the gun way too much. They play like 85%
- 44:28Speaker 2: of their snaps in the gun. And I think to
- 44:31Speaker 2: help with Ward, his footwork, his timing, you know, Because
- 44:34Speaker 2: when you're under center, the way you have to drop,
- 44:37Speaker 2: it really sets up your footwork, your timing, your balance.
- 44:41Speaker 2: You know, I remember having this conversation years ago with
- 44:44Speaker 2: Troy Aikman, who hated the gun because he just felt
- 44:46Speaker 2: like I have no rhythm. You know, and again, I
- 44:50Speaker 2: don't know what, you know, when you start losing and
- 44:52Speaker 2: not looking good, coaches do make adjustments. I don't know
- 44:54Speaker 2: what they're going to do this week. I have no idea.
- 44:57Speaker 2: But that's just, I'm just giving you my opinion. Sure.
- 44:59Speaker 3: I would say this, Jeff. There were a lot of
- 45:01Speaker 3: people in the NFL, especially coaches I spoke with, who
- 45:03Speaker 3: love Cam Ward. Very serious about football. It's like football family,
- 45:07Speaker 3: nothing else. He just loves football. So you love that
- 45:11Speaker 3: about him. That's a good base to start with. But
- 45:13Speaker 3: Greg has now outlined how many issues he's having, their
- 45:17Speaker 3: offensive line issues. We didn't even talk about the running game,
- 45:20Speaker 3: which could not get on track.
- 45:22Speaker 2: They didn't run enough plays.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Yeah, they just didn't have the ball.
- 45:26Speaker 2: They didn't have the ball. You can't really get into
- 45:28Speaker 2: a meaningful run game if you don't run plays. Yeah,
- 45:31Speaker 2: it's hard. The run game is a rhythm thing, too.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Tajay Spears is the backup to Pollard. They actually split
- 45:36Speaker 3: almost identical snaps. Yeah. But the game was never close.
- 45:39Speaker 3: They could never really run the football like they wanted.
- 45:41Speaker 3: So who, boy, you would think guys, this sets up
- 45:45Speaker 3: pretty well for the Eagles, but we, as we know,
- 45:47Speaker 3: strange things happen on the road.
- 45:48Speaker 2: You know, when you're, when you're a bit quote unquote
- 45:49Speaker 2: bad team and you're trying to get over the hump,
- 45:52Speaker 2: it's funny how bad things happen. They go down. I'm
- 45:55Speaker 2: trying to remember what the score was, but it was
- 45:57Speaker 2: close and the game was early. And I think it
- 46:00Speaker 2: was either a kickoff. Was it a kickoff? And, and,
- 46:03Speaker 2: DK fumbles. The guy never fumbled one last year. And
- 46:06Speaker 2: then he fumbled, you know, that's the kind of thing
- 46:08Speaker 2: that happens. And then all of a sudden you feel
- 46:10Speaker 2: like you're behind the eight ball and the whole game changes. Right.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Oh man.
- 46:15Speaker 1: So I know they brought in Bellinger from the, all
- 46:18Speaker 1: these former giants and jets, but they were mostly 11
- 46:20Speaker 1: personnel you would say against against the jets.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I can tell you that in a sec.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Because it looked like Helm probably got more, the tight
- 46:28Speaker 1: end from Texas, got more.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Yeah, got it. They lined up 36 snaps and 11,
- 46:35Speaker 2: only 7 snaps and 12.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I feel like Dable was like the last of the
- 46:39Speaker 1: Mohicans here with all this 11 personnel and shotgun 85%.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Which is really interesting because, you know, they brought in Bellinger.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Helm is actually a good receiver. Again, I would think
- 46:50Speaker 2: they'd want to play more out of 12, but, you know,
- 46:52Speaker 2: I'm not there. I mean, every day.
- 46:54Speaker 3: Here's why, though. Ridley, because of his contract, though, he
- 46:57Speaker 3: took a pick. He's got to play. Tate's got to
- 46:59Speaker 3: play as a first-round pick. Robinson's getting paid a ton
- 47:01Speaker 3: to play the slot.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:03Speaker 3: How do you justify not, like, these guys got to
- 47:06Speaker 3: play from a coaching standpoint and a front office standpoint?
- 47:10Speaker 3: They're going to say, well, why do we spend all
- 47:11Speaker 3: this money and why do we spend this draft capital
- 47:14Speaker 3: if these guys don't play? Honestly, those guys can play.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Well, I wonder about Ridley, Adam. You're making a good point.
- 47:19Speaker 1: He's getting paid, but does he have anything left?
- 47:22Speaker 3: That's a question.
- 47:23Speaker 2: You're right.
- 47:23Speaker 3: He had a knee surgery. I remember talking to the Titans,
- 47:26Speaker 3: the former staff. He just could not get on track
- 47:29Speaker 3: last season. He took a pay cut. Tate was seen
- 47:31Speaker 3: as the best deep threat for this draft, but he
- 47:35Speaker 3: needs further development. But there's talent there.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Great.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Daniel Bellinger, who's supposed to be their starter, again, he
- 47:41Speaker 3: didn't play a lot. What were your thoughts on him
- 47:42Speaker 3: as a tight end?
- 47:43Speaker 2: Well, Helm would be their starter.
- 47:45Speaker 3: Right, but it's time to start our money.
- 47:47Speaker 2: When I watched the Giants this summer, I did that
- 47:49Speaker 2: intentionally because not only did I want to watch Dart,
- 47:51Speaker 2: but I also wanted to watch to see what Brian
- 47:54Speaker 2: Dable's offense was. And he used Bellinger in multiple ways.
- 47:58Speaker 2: I came away thinking, God. this guy's really going to
- 48:00Speaker 2: help them because he lined him up everywhere, including in
- 48:03Speaker 2: the backfield as a lead blocker. There were times he
- 48:06Speaker 2: was the boundary X on the backside of trips. I mean, Bellinger's,
- 48:10Speaker 2: I mean, he's not Trey McBride or Brock Bowers, obviously,
- 48:13Speaker 2: but he's not a bad athlete. He's not one of
- 48:15Speaker 2: those plotting tight ends that can't move. And so we'll see.
- 48:19Speaker 2: That's why I was kind of surprised at how little
- 48:21Speaker 2: of 12 personnel they played in the first game. But Again,
- 48:24Speaker 2: they got behind. You don't know what their game plan
- 48:27Speaker 2: was going to be if the game was 10-10 in
- 48:29Speaker 2: the third quarter.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Bellinger, by the way, three years, $ 26 million. Excuse me,
- 48:34Speaker 3: three years, $ 24 million. It's $ 8 million a year is
- 48:37Speaker 3: a lot. I'm interested to see how they decide they're
- 48:42Speaker 3: going to go against the Eagles here because we'll see
- 48:45Speaker 3: about McCuba, but Coop's going to play. Something pretty good more,
- 48:49Speaker 3: but he's going to play. We've got to reflect.
- 48:52Speaker 2: It If they can't protect, it doesn't matter. Yeah.
- 48:56Speaker 3: But I'm just curious if they can protect how they
- 49:00Speaker 3: see the Eagles secondary.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:03Speaker 1: You could understand. You could rationalize and talk yourself into
- 49:06Speaker 1: Dable thinking that playing the Jets with their bad secondary,
- 49:12Speaker 1: on paper at least, that there would be opportunity. And
- 49:15Speaker 1: it's not like the Jets have this great pass rusher either.
- 49:17Speaker 1: They've got Will McDonald, I know. But you could rationalize.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Dablin of thinking he was going to be able to
- 49:21Speaker 1: make more plays against the Jets' defense out of 11
- 49:26Speaker 1: personnel with his receivers, and then it just didn't happen.
- 49:29Speaker 1: But you could also take that same thinking and apply
- 49:32Speaker 1: it to an Eagles defense that is very good, even
- 49:34Speaker 1: with the injuries right now, And you could have, you
- 49:37Speaker 1: could rationalize the able into thinking I need to have
- 49:39Speaker 1: two tight ends on the field, or I need to
- 49:41Speaker 1: have more max protection schemes against this defensive front to
- 49:44Speaker 1: give my quarterback a chance to make completions and move
- 49:47Speaker 1: the chains.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, it'll be interesting to see, you know,
- 49:52Speaker 2: how Tennessee comes out and plays this week, you know,
- 49:56Speaker 2: whether they say, Hey, we got, this is what we
- 49:58Speaker 2: do and we just have to do it better. Yep.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Some coaches take that approach. Other coaches say, you know what,
- 50:04Speaker 2: let's start sprinkling in, you know, a little more of this.
- 50:07Speaker 2: We don't know the answer to that. Very good.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Hey, I'm somebody who likes to work out. I get
- 50:13Speaker 1: to the gym at least three times a week. I
- 50:15Speaker 1: try to focus on certain muscle groups, my arms, my legs.
- 50:18Speaker 1: And it used to be really frustrating for me to
- 50:21Speaker 1: find jeans that fit someone like myself who likes to
- 50:24Speaker 1: work out. Sometimes those jeans can be awkward and tight
- 50:27Speaker 1: and you're sitting in a chair and you're constantly pulling
- 50:30Speaker 1: at your jeans, trying to get them to fit you.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Sometimes it feels like you have to buy jeans that
- 50:35Speaker 1: make you choose between your waist or your thighs. But thankfully,
- 50:39Speaker 1: I found the perfect jean. It's different from all other
- 50:43Speaker 1: jean companies, especially for guys with athletic builds. They actually
- 50:47Speaker 1: let me move like a normal human being. I can
- 50:49Speaker 1: bend down and tie my shoes. I can squat to
- 50:51Speaker 1: pick up something without feeling restricted. I can actually do
- 50:54Speaker 1: a full squat, you know, bending down to pick something
- 50:57Speaker 1: up without feeling like I'm about to blow gas. a scene.
- 51:00Speaker 1: You know, the old standard jean sizing, it wasn't designed
- 51:03Speaker 1: to fit guys who squat or deadlift, play sports, or
- 51:06Speaker 1: just do anything that actually builds your legs, but the
- 51:08Speaker 1: Perfect Jeans is designed for just that, for guys like me.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Perfect Jeans has six fits. It includes the athletic fit,
- 51:15Speaker 1: the slim, the thick, and the thick thick. Specifically built
- 51:18Speaker 1: around the reality that legs and waist don't always scale together.

- 51:45Speaker 1: Nobody loves grilling more than me. It could be 30
- 51:47Speaker 1: degrees and I'll be out there grilling burgers and steaks.
- 51:50Speaker 1: But the one thing that I really can't stand is
- 51:53Speaker 1: losing my fish and my veggies because they just can't
- 51:56Speaker 1: grill properly. without falling through. That's why I've been using
- 51:59Speaker 1: Hexclad's BBQ Collection. It's bringing hybrid technology outdoors with products
- 52:05Speaker 1: specifically designed to make grilling easier, especially when you're cooking

- 52:33Speaker 3: At one time.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Last week, I grilled the best surf and turf my style,
- 52:37Speaker 1: which is salmon and ribs, and lost none of it
- 52:41Speaker 1: because I used Hexclad's BBQ Collection. With over 1 million

- 53:23Speaker 1: them know we sent you. All right, that will bring
- 53:26Speaker 1: us to the very important part of the show that
- 53:28Speaker 1: we spend so much time on. It's time to make
- 53:31Speaker 1: our predictions. This week, Adam, we start with you. And
- 53:35Speaker 1: before you make your prediction, just so that I give
- 53:37Speaker 1: everybody the knowledge here, the Eagles are seven-point favorites on
- 53:42Speaker 1: the road in tennis, in Nashville. That's a pretty big
- 53:46Speaker 1: number for a place that they have never won. So
- 53:49Speaker 1: what do you think?
- 53:52Speaker 3: Oh, boy. Greg outlined their offensive line problems, Tennessee. Not
- 53:58Speaker 3: that I was going to pick them anyway. I thought
- 54:00Speaker 3: maybe they could make the game close. But I've got
- 54:03Speaker 3: Eagles 24, Titans 13.
- 54:07Speaker 2: 24-13.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Okay, that's good. And who do you have as your
- 54:12Speaker 1: player of the game?
- 54:13Speaker 3: One of these weeks is going to be Jalex Hunt.
- 54:15Speaker 2: I'm going to do it again.
- 54:16Speaker 3: I was wrong last week. I'm still going to go
- 54:17Speaker 3: to the well. Greg got me thinking about the offense.
- 54:20Speaker 3: I was going to go somewhere else, but as he
- 54:22Speaker 3: was speaking, I'm like, oh, J. Alex Hunt, come on.
- 54:25Speaker 3: He could beat their tackles.
- 54:27Speaker 2: Sure.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Greg, who's going to win the game and who's going
- 54:30Speaker 1: to be the player of the game?
- 54:31Speaker 2: Well, the Eagles, you know, are going to win the game.
- 54:36Speaker 2: I find it hard to think there'll be an upset
- 54:37Speaker 2: in this game, you know, just based on, you know,
- 54:40Speaker 2: watching the Titans all the time. So I'm going to
- 54:44Speaker 2: pick the Eagles. Score-wise, you know, The thing with the
- 54:49Speaker 2: Titans is, unfortunately, so many games get out of hand early.
- 54:52Speaker 2: That's been, you know, a problem. So I'm going to
- 54:55Speaker 2: pick the Eagles to win 30 to 17. And I'm
- 54:59Speaker 2: going to pick Jalen Hurts. I just, I was real
- 55:01Speaker 2: comfortable watching him. You know, he's not the kind of
- 55:04Speaker 2: guy that's going to take a step backward. I'm not
- 55:06Speaker 2: saying all of a sudden he's going to be the
- 55:08Speaker 2: greatest quarterback we've ever seen. But, you know, we know
- 55:11Speaker 2: how hard he works. You know, I just thought he
- 55:14Speaker 2: looked comfortable last week. I don't think this, you know,
- 55:17Speaker 2: now unless the Eagles O-line really ends up having an issue.
- 55:21Speaker 2: You know, that's the only caveat. But I just, I
- 55:25Speaker 2: really like what I saw from Jalen Hurts. I just
- 55:27Speaker 2: like the poise and composure in the way in which
- 55:29Speaker 2: he played. So I'm going to pick Jalen Hurts.
- 55:31Speaker 3: Jeff, what I was going to say is I would
- 55:34Speaker 3: have taken Barkley, but I just don't know how Kendall's
- 55:36Speaker 3: going to hold up. If I'd seen Kendall play, it's
- 55:40Speaker 3: like when we saw Brett Toth play well, shockingly against
- 55:43Speaker 3: the Giants, we were like, wow, this guy can really play.
- 55:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:46Speaker 3: If I knew he did something like Brett Toth, if
- 55:48Speaker 3: he played– if he had a good– if he had
- 55:50Speaker 3: a game last– if he played last week and played well,
- 55:52Speaker 3: I'd go, you know it's going to be Barkley this week.
- 55:53Speaker 2: Just don't know.
- 55:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Kind of ironic that if they had Toth right
- 55:56Speaker 1: now for this scheme, he might actually be a pretty
- 55:59Speaker 1: good fill-in.
- 55:59Speaker 2: He'd be playing at center.
- 56:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Yeah. When he played last year, remember how much they
- 56:04Speaker 2: pulled him? He looked really good getting out in front too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Unfortunately, I think he's out for the year, right? He
- 56:09Speaker 1: was with the Niners and then he had– Yeah. So,
- 56:11Speaker 1: unfortunately– Yeah, so the offensive line was my concern in
- 56:16Speaker 1: the running game. So I do think the Eagles will win.
- 56:18Speaker 1: I don't think yet offensively they're going to get to
- 56:22Speaker 1: that point where everybody's waiting to see this big offensive
- 56:26Speaker 1: productive game. But they will– I also have respect for
- 56:30Speaker 1: Robert Sala and what I think he'll be able to
- 56:33Speaker 1: do for his defense after that embarrassment against the Jets.
- 56:36Speaker 1: So I imagine– Greg, you pointed it out. They brought
- 56:39Speaker 1: in much better players for this defensive front.
- 56:41Speaker 2: They sure did.
- 56:42Speaker 1: So I imagine– I imagine you'll see a little bit
- 56:44Speaker 1: of a change in what they do and how they play.
- 56:47Speaker 1: I have the Eagles winning 23 to 15, and I
- 56:52Speaker 1: am going to give my player of the game. I
- 56:55Speaker 1: should have done it last week. I'm going to do
- 56:56Speaker 1: it this week, though.
- 56:57Speaker 2: Zach Bourne.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Guy was everywhere.
- 57:00Speaker 2: By the way, see, there's a perfect example. When you
- 57:02Speaker 2: watch the tape and you come away going, wow, Zach
- 57:05Speaker 2: Bourne is really all over the place making big time plays.
- 57:08Speaker 2: Talking about a linebacker that, you know, yeah.
- 57:11Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. So that's my player of the game. And
- 57:13Speaker 1: that'll do it for the Inside the Birds pregame show
- 57:16Speaker 1: here in week two. For Greg Cosell and Adam Kaplan,
- 57:19Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosier. Make sure you catch the Inside the
- 57:21Speaker 1: Birds postgame show following the game. Everybody have a great weekend.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Catch you on the next one.
