Transcript
- 0:00Good morning , traders !
- 0:02Welcome back to Spy Trader , your quickhit guide to navigating these wild markets .
- 0:07I am your host , Barnaby Bullish , and it is exactly 6 am on Wednesday , April 29th , 2026 , out here on the Pacific Coast .
- 0:16We are just hours away from some massive market movers , so let us get you prepped .
- 0:21The S&P 500 , or the SPY , is currently sitting right around 7,138 .
- 0:28It took a little breather yesterday , slipping about half a percent as everyone holds their breath for the Federal Reserve .
- 0:35Over in the tech world , the Nasdaq100 , that is the QQQ , had a tougher time , dropping nearly one percent to 24,663 .
- 0:46Why the long face in tech ?
- 0:48Well , news leaked that OpenAI missed its internal growth targets , which has everyone asking if the billions spent on artificial intelligence are actually paying off .
- 0:59This sent Nvidia down 1.6 percent and caused a massive 8 percent slide for Arm Holdings .
- 1:05But it is not all gloom !
- 1:07The energy sector is absolutely on fire .
- 1:10Crude oil has jumped past 103 dollars a barrel because the United Arab Emirates just announced they are leaving the OPEC cartel this Friday .
- 1:18Meanwhile , financials are holding steady thanks to a great report from SoFi , which pulled in record revenue of 1.1 billion dollars .
- 1:29Looking at the big picture , we are in a bit of a stagflationary tightrope walk .
- 1:33The Fed is expected to keep interest rates between 3.5 and 3.75 percent this afternoon , but Chair Jerome Powell has a tough job .
- 1:42Economic growth slowed to pointfive percent last quarter , but inflation is still hot at 3.3 percent .
- 1:49On top of that , we have a major earnings storm tonight .
- 1:53Alphabet , Microsoft , Meta , and Amazon are all reporting after the bell .
- 1:59Investors want to see that AI is making money , not just costing money .
- 2:03If these big players disappoint , the QQQ could be in for a bumpy ride .
- 2:08So , what is the game plan ?
- 2:10First , it might be time to trim some of those heavy tech positions in the QQQ and rotate into something a bit more stable , like the Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF , ticker VEA .
- 2:23International markets are looking a bit cheaper right now .
- 2:26Second , lean into energy as a hedge against inflation and global drama .
- 2:31I like the Energy Select Sector SPDR , or XLE , and individual names like ExxonMobil .
- 2:38With the UAE shaking up OPEC , oil prices likely have more room to run .
- 2:43For a defensive move , check out healthcare .
- 2:47The XLV ETF is a solid pick , especially with Regeneron posting a huge 19 percent jump in revenue today .
- 2:56Healthcare is great because it does not care as much about what the Fed does with interest rates .
- 3:01Finally , be very careful with longterm bonds like the TLT ETF .
- 3:06If oil prices keep pushing inflation higher , bonds could lose more value .
- 3:11Stick to shorterterm stability for now .
- 3:13Today is going to be a wild one , so keep your eyes on the screen and your feet on the ground .
- 3:18We will see what the Fed and Big Tech have to say later today .
- 3:22Until next time , happy trading !
