- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome back everybody to another episode of Obnoxiously Pleasant.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: I'm Hanan.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: I'm Lena and I'm Aya.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Why are you scared, Aya?
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: This is supposed to be fun.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Today's episode is a little different, guys.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Our friend Aya, actually, it's Lena and Aya's first time meeting.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: My friend Aya had us over today, so we decided why not do an episode from here, right?
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: And let you in on the Azuma or invitation.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Hello, Silent.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: You can tell she's a little nervous.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: I am nervous.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I am nervous for somebody this is the first time for me.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: For somebody who posts a lot of like pictures like this on Instagram, I don't know why she's nervous.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: Anyway, listen, thank you for for agreeing to do this.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was last minute.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: And thank you.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know right.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: We just put you on the spot.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: And thank you for having us over.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: The food was delicious.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Amazing.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Amazing food.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: I'm glad you enjoyed it.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: Yes, it was excellent.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: Um, so I think the first question, just tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: And I think what I wanted to ask you, like the gist of this whole episode, we're gonna start with you uh moving from uh the Middle East to America, if you can just kind of give us a short uh summary of the Well now.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm just saying the focus, I hate you.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: I really do.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: Do you see what I have to deal with?
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Okay, go ahead.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: I I deal with her all the time.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: So tell us about yourself.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Yella.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: My name is Aya and I'm married, and I have three kids.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: I lived, I was born uh in Lebanon, but I was raised between the UK and Kuwait.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: I came to the US in 2004 after getting married.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Um I've been That's where I met her actually.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes, at my Cat Bikteb.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was the first time we met.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Her husband and my husband went to school together.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: So that's how we met.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: And we've known each other since then, but then a lot of things happen in the middle.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: So what what what was the f like when you first came here?
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: Like what were some of the things that you found to be completely different, or you weren't like some of the things that you weren't expecting to see, or just w what was the most different?
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Like what was how how was the Middle East different than when you when you came to the US?
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's a huge difference between the Middle East and the US, especially that I lived in Kuwait.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: So Kuwait back then was like there weren't as much diversity, I would say.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Um so I was surrounded more with Middle Eastern people.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: When I came here, I found out that there is a lot of Muslims that don't speak Arabic, for example.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: When I used to think like only Muslim people speak Arabic, you know what I mean?
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Like I found out the amount of people and diversity here was like so different.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: I started realizing there's so many different personalities, so many different cultures that I've never uh met before or even expected to know.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: So that was a little interesting for me.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Um was there anything shocking though, something that shocked you?
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: Like, oh my god, this would never happen in the Middle East.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Um, no, not really.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Maybe because I travel a lot.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: I've been in the UK a lot, so it's kind of I'm I'm used to the Western you know life.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: It's just the just knowing people, you know, when you travel, like, oh okay, you see people around you, but you don't really know them.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: So I didn't know.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: I wasn't into too many cultures and religions and things like that.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: So you weren't exposed to those things.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was okay, okay.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: So there was a learning experience.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: There was a learning experience.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: Definitely, yeah.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, definitely.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Hannah, do you have any any follow-up questions?
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: I'm just listening.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I know all these answers.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, you do?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, I though I was a leading aya, yeah.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I know all these answers.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: So I'm just here, you know, being entertained and making sure she doesn't lie.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Okay, hold on.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: So we got that.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: Now here's here's another question about being there and compared to being here.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Like, what are some of the things you grew up with overseas that matter so much uh to you or had a huge impact on you that your kids in the US are not gonna get to experience or have?
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: I know that's a tough question a little bit.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: You gotta kind of look back, but like, is there one thing that you wish uh like that kids here in the US could experience that they really can't unless they're overseas something?
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: I think the value of family, really.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, they they Yes.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Yes, interesting.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: I believe, I believe they don't really understand what the value of family is.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, in the Middle East, like our if we want to have fun, we go sit with our cousins and the family, and that's it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: We don't need to go out, we don't need to travel, we don't need to, you know, eat out like my mom's food is the best thing, you know, what my grandma cooks is like the most enjoyable thing.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: I don't think kids realize how much they're missing here because there's not much family around us.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: So so like so you know, I I agree and I disagree with you because I grew up here for the most part.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Like I was 10 when I moved here, right?
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And I feel like I value my family so much because I grew up here.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Because we're like a solid unit, we're together all the time.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: That that's true.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: But remember, you have a lot of family here.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Like, no, it's my it's my immediate family, that's it.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Yes, but like they all got married and they stayed here, they're all around, like surrounded around you.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Um for me, like I'm the only one here.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I don't have siblings.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: It's like me.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: It's like so my so my kids don't have that many cousins, especially, you know.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: I grew up, I grew up um in a very like, you know, how can I say this?
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Um I forgot the word.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: It's not in Arabic.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: We say it in Arabic.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Uh very like uh we're very like together.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Tight.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like the the family were very stuck together.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: So like our cousins and everybody were always together, we're always laughing, always enjoyable enjoying our time together.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: The kids here, especially that I got married young.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: So my kids are always the oldest out of the cousins, too.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: So that's another thing that they are, it's just it's just a completely different life.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: I understand what you mean because like I think is my most of my family, like my husband's family is overseas, my family's in a different state.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: So I I think I know like part of it also is like they have to be entertained and we have to go places or I mean honestly, I'd spoiled.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: My family lives in a five-mile radius.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so it's like you're always trying to find something for them to do, but it's like because there's no family on like you always have to kind of find them an activity to do or someplace to go, or you know, whatever.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's interesting.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: Helen, do you want to uh follow?
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: No, I was just gonna say, like, from that perspective, yeah, no, I can see what you're saying.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: No, my I'm spoiled.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: My family all literally lives in a five-mile radius.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: So my kids can see their cousins anytime.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: My sister and I spend a lot of time together.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: It's my you know, I we see my brother's family like on a weekly basis, my parents on a weekly basis.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: So it we are spoiled in that in that sense.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: But for a long time, it was just the five of us.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Now, here's here's something it's a little not as serious, but I was just curious.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: Uh what's like when you get mad as an Arab parent, because we you know, like Palestinians, when we get mad, we say, I'll say Ilan Immak to my to my I don't say that.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: We had a whole discussion about that.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't say that.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: Can you stop judging me and just translate what that means?
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: I am not judging her.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, but I would never say Ylaan Immaking myself mother.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Okay, listen, listen.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: The question is this.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: So we curse ourselves.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: That's what I mean.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: Like, I, you know, Palestinians usually say Ilan Imak, Ilan.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: You know what I love about this moment is that today is a little different.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: We have a little, like, you know, baby audience on that.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and and we have our friend back here.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: She's like, mm-hmm.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I say that.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, meet me.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: I say that.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Um, okay, and and like Egyptians say, Yibnil Kalb or Yibnil Kalb, okay?
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: And then translate.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Actually, not Hanan, sorry, you know, Hanan is too cool for us.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: I just I don't I do not say that.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: I do not say that.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: What makes you say that?
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Is it like what's going on?
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: I'm asking you a question.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: Like, like, I don't want to like when I get mad at my son, I don't want to curse him, so I curse myself.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: I don't really mean to do that, but yeah, but what makes you what made what makes you think even to say that?
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Like, is it something that your mom used to say?
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: No, my mom never cursed me.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: Okay, so this is not something that I was taught.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: That's for sure.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Which again goes back to a point I made earlier, which is a Lena thing, not a culture.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: Shut up.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: No, no.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: So do you do that?
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: You know, you're raising your kids in in the US.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: Do you do you have a moment or like do you do something like that or you don't?
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Do you just yell at them?
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: No, actually, no, I just yell at them.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: And you know, we we were we were we were not raised using any word.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know you were using it.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wasn't.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: But no, we don't say that.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: It's just like for me, it's it's a big deal of the, you know, I'm not going to lie to you.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Sometimes when they do something to you, I'm like, you you know, you're why you're doing something stupid, you know, like why you're not using your brain?
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: And you use words like that, but cursing, no.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Not like cursing like big cursing.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Is that really that big?
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: It's not that big.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, so this is a perfect time for us to pull.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Ilan is a big word.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for us to poll the people.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Okay, for all of our Arab or Arab American followers out there, I'm gonna put this in a poll on Instagram.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: I need to know, let the people speak.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, we need to.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: I need to know.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: But we have an audience member here, and she's Palestinian.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: Do you do that?
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: So, you guys try to make us Palestinians look different right now.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: First of all, nobody tried to do anything.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: You did it to yourself, sister.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: You did it to yourself.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: Um, do you did you want to add anything else?
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna do a poll on Instagram.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: She's always judging me.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: I'm not judging you.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: First of all, she tries to tell me highowana is a term of endearment.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Yes, it is.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: It's really not a good idea.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I told you that today, though.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: But it's like highowana, I miss you.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I think it's thank you.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: I think it's so funny.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: It's one thing if it's between adults, but it's hilarious because Lina and I had this whole discussion.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Well, actually, wait, I have to correct correct this.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: I only say it to people that I really, really care and love about.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: So she approves.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Yes, I think it was before I don't tell say it to you.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: I have never grown up with anybody calling me a highwana in a positive light.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: But I call you haiwana all the time.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Well, no, yeah, no, no, no, no.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: For us, for us, that is not a term of endearment.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, I will tell it.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: It has so sad for you, I mean, after a long life that you die and no one says it.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to tell you that you that you have to have that experience.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: No, no, my mom called me that, but it was never in a positive way or a term of endearment or anything.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: It always was attached with negative connotation.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: I feel like I've called Sarah one time Hayo and Aharam.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: I feel bad, I'm so sorry.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: See, it does happen.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't I don't do that anymore.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's a big deal because look, I look, we had this conversation before on another episode.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: You know, my kids know I love them.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: You know, I will tell you one thing.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: So certain things I I said to myself, when I have kids, I'm not going to do it.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Just like certain things that my my parents did to me or said to me.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: And over the years, you know, you realize like at the beginning, I was doing basically what my mom used to do, you know.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: And then I realized like this is not the right way to do it because it's it's until now, even though I'm 37, it still affects me.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Like it's still it still affects what she said or what she did or or how did she point it out.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: So now I'm very, very careful of what I say and what I do.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Just because of that.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying that she she was a bad mom or she did it in a bad way.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, that has nothing to do with that.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: It's just certain things, I don't know.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: I guess, I don't know.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: Something, another thing talking about the yeah, something about mental health here, like in the in the Middle East.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: You do anything and the kids are totally fine.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Here, like, oh, you know, it's affecting me.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: I'm having uh anxiety, I'm having a depression from like a spectrality.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: I don't, I don't, I, I disagree with that perspective too.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: It's we tend to culturally, as Middle Eastern people, we're not good with sharing emotions, we're not good with anytime somebody has a problem, you just brush it off as like, you know, it's terguil.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: It nail as well.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Actually, I agree with it.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: I do not agree with that.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you need to be able to express emotion and the person in front of you must validate.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I agree you, I agree with you, but correct me.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: I agree, I agree with that part.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying, like, I don't know.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: It's no correct me if I'm wrong.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm just I'm guessing that maybe you're saying that overseas, like for for like, you know, people in Libnan or Falestine or like the Middle East, unfortunately, and it's this is sad, there's a lot of like problems there, right?
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: Whether it's war uh uh related or just the economy, whatever it is, people have a lot of like problems, right?
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: So I think maybe part of that reason is I feel maybe, and I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like the people there just don't have time to worry about that because they have like basic needs that they need to meet that they need to worry about.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: That's that part of it.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: No, but but it yes, I think.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: It doesn't mean that it doesn't mean that there aren't like like mental health isn't an issue.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: It's definitely a big issue there.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: And I will I will tell you always gonna agree to disagree on this.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I will tell you something.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: I think also like social media kind of opened up our eyes to like it's okay to express your feelings.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: It's okay if you're a guy and you cry, that's fine, you know.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: I think now it's becoming even in the Middle East, I would say now they're expressing their feelings a lot more.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: And like you said, I mean they have a lot of things to worry about, like just providing the the basic necessities of life, exactly.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: So because you don't have the basic necessity of life, okay, basic necessities of life, I feel like warmth, love, that is free.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: So it can't be like Mishhayib eden ya wenti alena.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm sorry, I disagree with that.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Like it's you have people who literally the fact that they love each other and the fact that they're so tight-knit and the fact that they have each other's back, that's literally the only thing they have to rely on.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: So, so I I come again on this issue, we can agree to disagree.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, so now the hard part is over.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: We're gonna ask you some fun questions.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Okay, holla you stupid.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Exactly.

- 23:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: So upon entering the house.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we'll show you guys.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: We'll put some pictures.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we'll put some pictures up.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: It was delicious.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: So she made us some chicken in the oven.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, yeah, but the chicken was separate from the rice, which I really appreciate.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Because sometimes when you put the chicken in the rice, then everything gets all soggy and nobody got time for that.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: The rice was perfectly fluffy.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: The chicken was amazing.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: And she used some wonderful long ring rice, which I appreciate because I don't like Egyptian rice.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: I don't like Egyptian rice at all.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: You're an Egyptian hat.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: How could you?
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: Obviously, she doesn't cook.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: I like No.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: She cooks.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: No, I freaking hate Egyptian rice.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: I don't like it.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: It gets so soggy together.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: It's hard to make.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: It sticks together.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: You gotta be a professional.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: No, if I'm not professional, it's like freaking sushi rice.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: I'm good.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: I don't need my rice to be that sick.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: I prefer long grain.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: I like long grain and I like my rice to have a bite.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Well, it depends on the meal.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, if you're doing mahasha, you can't do like the long.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: So my mom is professional enough that she used to.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, she rinse best material rice in her mahashi and we all appreciate her for it.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: For the for mahashens.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: Should I find it?
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: You don't like first of all, Egyptian rice is very starchy, which I don't like.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: You have to rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: I don't want to! I freaking hate for grape leaves, for the Egyptian rice.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: You have to do that.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: You can't do long-grain.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: I don't like short.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, honestly, it's going in my belly.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: I'm glad that I didn't do what I'm saying.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: That was the plan.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: And then she's a shit thing for you, okay?
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, but I you made you made a sviha.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Can you talk about the sviha you made just in in my honor, right?
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Is that what you did?
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: Okay, I like making abu julia's fiha.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Abu Julia's fiha, that's right.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: He I follow him, I'm sure.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Like, do you follow him?
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, of course.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: He has I I don't know.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: I I made it before.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: I tried it, and it was really good.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: So I was like, okay, Lina's coming.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: For the first time.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: What do I do?
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: And I, yeah, I wanted to make it for sweet.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: It was amazing.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Because I made kepsi, which is like technically it's a Saudi.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: But I was like, okay, and then I'm making a salad.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: There's really nothing.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: I have to make something Palestinian.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Because I was like, should I make kepsi or should I make him sech?
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, okay, wait a minute, let me make kepsi and then like it's a good idea.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love, I love, I love kepse.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but no, it was delicious.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna show, I'm gonna put pictures and I think you have a video, so I'll put it in uh the thing.
