- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Hello, hello, and welcome to the Fitzit Project.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Rachel Fitzpatrick, and we're here in the business of you.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's right.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: In this podcast, we talk about yoga, we talk about energy management, and we talk about mindset, and how this is all something that can help you be in the business of yourself.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: It's about alignment that inspired action, how to embody some of these things that life can help us.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Anyway, uh I hope you love everything you learned in each of these episodes because at the end of the day, you are supporting the project.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Alright, so if you know me, you know me.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: You know that I am loving doing this podcast.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I have a full-time job.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: I am a mom planning a wedding, and I manage a household, my own energy, my own mindset, and I use all sorts of different techniques to heal myself so I can be a better person from the inside out.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And how do I even do this?
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: You guys, I'm not even kidding you.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: I use my own quadrant, the fits-in quadrant.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: It's in the show notes.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: How do I get all this stuff done?
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: That's exactly how I do it.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: But it's tiny steps, big moves every single day.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: And on top of that, I use things that help me stay on track.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: So you will see some of those things in the show notes.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I would love for you to go check it out.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: These things that help me stay on track, that help me create big moves with tiny steps.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Those are that's the key.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: That's the key to my entire existence.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Do yourself a favor, get that fits-in quadrant.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Tell us about me.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: More about what's happening today.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Why you're even tuned in.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Nicole Zapoli, you guys.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: She has written this book, Live Fit from the Inside Out.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And she's got her own six shifts and her own framework as to how to make your life better.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And she shares it because it's what works for her.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Just like the Fits in Quadrant works for me, this is what works for her.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And I'm so happy to get to share another modality and another way that you can tap into to help you take that inspired action that you need.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: So without further ado, Nicole Zapoli.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Nicole, welcome to the Fits in Project.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Thank you for having me.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: I'm super happy that you're here.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And I know you've got a whole career's worth of things we could possibly talk about with your fitness journey, your wellness, and how to dive inward and bringing that out.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: I want to start you with one question.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: So, what does it mean to you to be in the business of yourself?
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: So that's a good question.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: I would say freedom to be able to serve others in the way that I know uh I am called to.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: The like my my purpose, my mission, there's a lot more freedom to do that in the way that I am designed to do that.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, so that I would say is probably the biggest thing for sure.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: And then living a life that allows me the freedom to create my own schedule and be a mom and be able to be present with my family and also present with my clients and doing the work that I am most passionate about and uh keeping that that balance across the board for sure.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: I would say freedom for sure across Yeah.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: So you've got some freedom, you've got some passion, you've got some purpose, all of which listed.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Let's dive into that.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: What does that mean for you to have your passion meet your purpose, meet freedom?
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: What does that mean to me?
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Um everything.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: I would say for sure, that's like I'm living my dream and uh everything that all of my life's experiences and the different ways that I've grown throughout my entire life, but especially in the fitness and wellness realm, all of that I am able to give back that much more.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: So having the freedom to be able to do that is means everything, really.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: 100% agree.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, when you are able to move freely, what does that mean for you?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Like for me, it's like no stress, right?
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: I'm not worried about uh what is today gonna bring because I'm kind of rooted with some confidence and no it doesn't matter what's gonna come because I'm living out of purpose, right?
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: But when you when you know your purpose and you know what you are here to do, I mean that really takes care of a lot of a lot of stuff that that would typically hold us back in either fear or whatever might be gripping us from not moving forward.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: And so when we're looking at the bigger picture and we know what our, even when we know what our purpose and passion and and life's calling is, that can still creep in, but it's a lot less likely.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: And it makes it a lot easier and uh the ability to bounce back and be more resilient anyway, just when you know what you're created and designed to do.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: How old were you when you figured it out for yourself?
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: It was eight years old.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: I stood in front of my class on career day.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: We were to give a presentation about what we wanted to be when we grew up and we were supposed to dress like that.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: And I dressed up as what I thought a coach dressed like.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: So we're my gymnastics warmup and um said I would be a coach and own my own gym.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: And and I did.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that was that it was that simple back then.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: I knew that that was what I wanted to do.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: And then of course, like over time, and as you get older, interest, different things that interest you.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, I had a lot of interest in a lot of different things.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: I I find a lot of different things fascinating and really fun to learn about, but that was always top on my list for sure.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: And as I continued to to grow and get older and you know, have different new experiences and different things, you know, like when I got to, I had the opportunity to train at the Olympic Training Center and they had us going to nutrition classes while we were there.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: And it just kind of that was in middle school.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: And so that definitely was, I think, solidified my path forward in that in the that direction even more.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: That experience for sure stands out in my mind.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: And yet at the same time, you know, things like marine biology would be really cool or interior design and like other stuff, which is still very like things that I absolutely love and that I still, you know, keep a big part of my life.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: But this was the way in which I I definitely felt like that tugging on my my heart, leading me in that direction to help people live stronger, healthier, happier lives.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: And uh what is the modality here?
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: So, like you want to be a coach.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: You mentioned you were in a you got out your gymnast suit and came in.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: So I would only assume that you had started in gymnastics, but with your own gym, is it gymnastics-based or are we doing weights?
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it was gymnastics at the time when I stood up in front of my class.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: That was I had, you know, I was gonna be a gymnastics coach and have a gymnastics gym and have world-class coaches and and all the things, which I did.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: And I, when I um opened my first gym, it was a CrossFit.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Uh and the I was before I opened the the gym, I was invited onto the CrossFit gymnastics seminar team.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: So I got to travel all over the world and the country teaching gymnastics in the functional fitness space and the CrossFit world to coaches.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: So coaching coaches on how to coach gymnastics in that functional fitness space in the strength and conditioning world and to adults that most likely had maybe never stepped foot into a gymnastics academy ever, and had maybe never done any sort of bodyweight training like that ever.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: So it was really neat.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: And so, in theory, yes, I was a gymnastics coach in a different space as far as like I wasn't teaching competitive gymnasts, but these were a lot of them were athletes competing in CrossFit and had to be able to walk on their hands or be able to do pull-ups and muscle ups and you know, all of these things.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: So uh in some capacity, yes.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: So it was definitely just in a different, a different space in the fitness world.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: So yeah, really cool.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: And and definitely like bringing together everything that I absolutely love.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: So all of I got my I started training at the gym.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: I got my own membership, saved up my money and got my own membership at 24 Hour Fitness when I was 14, and would go to practice and then would go to the gym after, and then and then I would still find time to do my homework.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: You were living your best life.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: You were having great.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, it was great.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: That costs yeah, and that was like, you know, being exposed to weightlifting and different ways of training.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: And when I got into cheerleading in high school, competitive cheerleading, the the coach was he was former military.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: He introduced us to the weight room and how to lift.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: And and this was like super exciting to me because I had never, you know, and that was that was when I was inspired to get my own gym membership and um start training in the gym on my own.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: And since that time, of course, like have definitely gotten to and that was also right around the time when I started doing yoga.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: And it was so cool because of the similarities between that and gymnastics and uh how like it was just awesome.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: And then the the yoga instructor that I just I love taking her classes, she was probably my biggest inspiration for continuing on uh my journey of teaching and coaching and everything.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Although she did encourage me, she's like, you should be a yoga teacher.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Have you ever thought of that?
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: And I was 18 and I wasn't, I I want to say, I think I was maybe 40 years old before I actually did my official yoga teacher certification.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: But yeah, mute and practicing all, you know, since that time.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: That is so cool.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: There's so much on what to kind of reflect on and kind of like just reflect back to you.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: First of all, how awesome you are to have noticed at eight years old, and then finding this like passion to not get so derailed in your teens and your 20s and everything else, like so many of us do, but staying in line with who Nicole is and what lights you up.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, I can just look at you and you're talking through being eight and 14 and starting your first gym and everything else, and you just light up like a Christmas tree.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: I'm just like, okay, this is it.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: This is what is your fire.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: And I love that because when I was younger, I was in gymnastics and it was so much fun.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: I I I look at yoga very much like I look at gymnastics because it was always so much fun to see what my body could do or how I would feel.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: And I was the first on our cheer team to throw a backhand spring, and I say throw because it wasn't it wasn't beautiful by any means, through it just to see if I could by myself.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: And it was a mess, but I didn't die, and I'm just going, you know.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: So but yeah, I so can relate to having that because there is something about the adrenaline of gymnastics and the adrenaline of yoga where they kind of like meet each other in this pushing yourself to the next level type thing, which I'm sure when you're weightlifting that comes back to play two.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: I don't weightlift.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: But yeah, for sure.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: It's it's definitely like those different types of practice, it has to be like inside out.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Like it has to be for you.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Like you're on this, like, you know, journey all your own that you're you're learning and and and growing in different ways.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: And it's just, I don't know, it's just I guess it's really hard to describe.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: It's more like unless you have actually experienced that or understand that.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Cause I feel like I did do cheer, which was like a team sport.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: Um gymnastics in a way is a team sport, but you are still individually competing, even though you you do have teammates.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Um, it's it's up to you how you show up and how like where you allow your mind to go and you know, and and all of those things.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: And so um that I think is is the coolest part about just whether it's yoga or gymnastics or strength training or you know, all of the above, all of that is it's like the deeper why of you know, continuing on that path.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: And it's about discovering who you are, even when you think you know who you are, continuing to grow and and get to know yourself even better.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: And um, and and just how much that overflows into every other part of your life and how much, I don't know, just how much better it makes you overall.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: In every other I'd say why you named your book Live Fit from the Inside Out, right?
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: There are fitness is for everyone.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: And I believe that strength training is probably the best thing that you could do to increase your longevity and overall, but there's it doesn't stop there.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: And when I look at the fitness industry in itself and the and the biggest things I guess that pain me when I as a coach is when I hear, well, I just want to look good in this dress for this thing, or I want to be able to do and not that that's a bad thing, because that's totally normal to want to like, you know, be feel your best in, you know, if you have like a big event coming up or for this or that or fill in the blank.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: That's totally normal to want that.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: So I'm not I'm not saying that that's like a bad thing, but if that is the only reason for pursuing like a fitness routine or trying to change up your what how you eat, the whole thing is okay, wait, let's take a moment here and like take a few steps back and really look at the big picture of why.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Why, what is going on here?
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Maybe why do we not feel our best?
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: What is going on in our daily life?
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: What can we do to maybe improve that across time?
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: And then looking at that and um, you know, taking it as far as like looking five years in advance, 10 years from now, where do we want to be?
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: What, how do we want to feel?
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: How do we want to be showing up in our life and kind of peeling back?
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Like, okay, so yes, that's a that's a great maybe short-term goal, but that's not the why behind, or hopefully it's not the why.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: But helping and and I think like the whole concept of this, the whole reason I was inspired to write what I wrote is it's my entire approach to coaching, but it's also everything that I have learned across time myself with my clients.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: And the the biggest things that that I see um within the fitness and wellness world that can potentially hold people back and keep us stuck.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: And so, and that's one of those things.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: It's like, yeah, oh me and then it kind of is like this cycle.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: So then we, you know, I've definitely had or known of people that will, you know, hop on this diet or hop on that diet because, you know, they want to lose 10 pounds in 10 days or, you know, stuff like that.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: And it just really affects me and breaks my heart.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: And I, and I just, I'm like, no, there's a better way.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: So, and and and so looking at that and recognizing that that is a reality for a lot of people.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: And hopefully, um for those, not just that population of people, but even former athletes, former professional athletes that maybe were training at a really high level for a long time.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: And then they're just burnt out and they don't want to, they're like, I did that for my job.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: I am tired of being in the weight room, or I'm tired of, you know, I just want to relax and enjoy life.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: And and then they end up, you know, like the unhealthiest and maybe turning to other things that are not beneficial for them or for their families, or, you know, just all sorts of things.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: So the making sure that, okay, look, like we can break this down.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: This is very, very simple.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: And it's stuff that that we can all implement no matter where we're at, no matter what level we're at, or what our experience is, or what our motivation is, we can look at these six shifts is what I um, the six shifts to living your strongest, healthiest, happiest life is what I break it down with.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: And so the shift, the word shift comes from a story I share in the book about when I was learning to drive.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: And I will share it with you if you would like.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: But um, but uh it's actually pretty cool and it has stuck with me for a really long time.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: I was learning to drive uh a stick shift, and it was this 91 Toyota pickup four by four that my dad, my dad is uh he owns an auto-repair shop, and I think he's going on like 50 years or more of being in business in Houston.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: And um, and so this was like part of my life growing up.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: A big part was being at the shop and being around cars.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: And I know probably a lot more about cars than I ever knew I needed to know.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: But I but it was a really big part of my life growing up, and um, and so in one of those things was that my dad had this truck that was it was left up at his shop and it needed a new transmission.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: So my all his friends, I called, I had names, I called um his friend that I can't even think of what his actual name is.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: I called him Uncle Fishhead.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: He uh he rebuilt the transmission in this truck, and it was a great truck, but it was was probably the most challenging manual transmission that existed on the planet in my head.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: And so anyway, we went to go get my driver's license.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: My dad gives me the keys and afterwards and he asked if I want to drive home, and I said, sure.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: And so I get in, it's in the middle of the summertime, it's super hot and humid.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: The air conditioning had gone out in the truck, so it's like really hot, and I am so nervous, and I'm like pouring sweat, and we are getting onto the freeway, and I'm on the feeder road, but it's at this light where that is at an intersection.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: This is like the craziest thing.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: So you have to turn left to then get on the feeder road to get onto the freeway, and it was like my life was flashing before my eyes.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: So, and I'm trying to shift and get going in first gear, and I keep stalling, and I'm the first car in the line, and all of a sudden, all these people start honking and they're flying around me.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: And I am like, finally get the truck going, and I'm like in the middle of the intersection while people are still flying around me.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: And and he's like, I am in first gear moving as I'm like being passed by all these people.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Anyway, my dad is as calm as could be, and he's like, Don't worry about them, just let them go around you.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Do not worry.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: He's like, It's fine, you're doing great.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: And so I'm like, Okay, thanks.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: And we're getting on the freeway.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: And I have no intention of shifting gears after that.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Like I just want to stay in first gear.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: But we are getting on the freeway.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: And then I'm driving, and my dad's like, okay, we're getting on the freeway.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: We need to shift gears.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: And so anyway, he was very patient and he just calmly said, if you push the clutch in, I'm going to help you shift gears.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: I will shift gears for you.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: You just worry about pushing the clutch in.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: So I was like, okay.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: He's like, okay, push the clutch in.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: And so we're shifting gears, getting on the freeway, make it back.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Everything is fine.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: But I was like, there's no way I'm ever driving that thing again.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And um, and he, you know, was so patient and encouraging.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: And I eventually, you know, gave it another shot and continued to practice and eventually loved that truck and I drove it for a really long time.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: Anyway, the whole thing is we spend a lot of our life in first gear, stuck in first gear, like, okay, that's enough.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: I am totally fine, like hanging out here until that like very patient, calm support.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: If I hadn't had that, there's no way I would have been shifting gears.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: So, you know, understanding that in certain things in our life, having being able to build a life that is supportive of our goals and our well-being and, you know, all of those things where, you know, that was so uncomfortable and way out of my comfort zone.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: And there was absolutely no way that I would have been totally fine never getting back in that truck, but in the driver's seat of that truck at least.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: But the the whole thing behind that is, you know, we may be stuck having that support was the biggest thing.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: And I eventually grew a lot more confidence in my ability to drive and in my ability to shift gears.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: And knowing that I had that support and that encouragement, just like with coaching, when you need or you have a goal or something that that you would like to achieve, or a level of your quality of life that you would like to be able to have and achieve, and then be able that longevity of being able to live your best life all the days of your life.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: It's about finding the support that you need in the way that you need it, and building a life that allows you to feel that support and that encouragement.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: So that there's a chapter in the book that's positive infectious influences.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: And so the people that you allow into your life, but even like the atmosphere, the music that you listen to, the things that you watch and all of that stuff, what you read, what you're you know, allowing into your life really affects all of that and how you are supporting yourself.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: So how are you setting yourself up for success?
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: And as an adult, we are really, I mean, yes, we have our earthly moms and dads and you know, or like adopted moms and dads, and you know, motherly or f fatherly figures of some sort in our life, but yet it's still up to us.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: How do we parent ourselves?
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: And how do we show up in support of ourselves?
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: And so that's what these six shifts are of laying that foundation and continuing to layer and build on, you know, and then over time it evolves with the entire thing of as far as shifting gears, like shifting into second and then third gear and then fourth and then fifth.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna be in fifth gear forever.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: I've got to shift back down, you know, and I'm gonna have to take a moment of rest.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: And I'm going to have to, you know, pause for a moment and then I'm gonna have to shift again and I'm gonna have to continue to shift up and shift down and, you know, and so being able to smoothly and efficiently move through the different changes of life and shifting throughout life in a confident, calm, like peaceful way of knowing like I have my back.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: And then I also have built a life where there are people that I know have my best interests in mind and that are supporting and supportive of me and encouraging of me, as long as, of course, like it starts with ourselves, but showing up in that way.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: And um, yeah, so anyway, that's the the shift, the word shifts um stands for those, those six shifts, the six daily habits.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: And it's starts off with sleep and then hydration.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: I is for intake, which is nutrition.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: So what are you feeding your body and what are you fueling yourself with?
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: F is for fitness, T is for thoughts or mindset, and then the last S is for sunshine.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: And uh yeah, and they all work hand in hand, they're all very important, but um, the mindset piece, I definitely think is probably the most important out of all of those.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Fitness is a great way of building your mindset on a regular basis.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: It gets you out of your comfort zone where you're practicing showing up for yourself and doing something that's challenging and maybe, you know, temporarily uncomfortable, but that's making you stronger, not just physically, but mentally as well.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: And that is such a great habit to, you know, uh maintain across our entire life, like where we're continually showing up, challenging ourselves, doing something that is not necessarily easy to do, and then um, and then doing that on a repeated basis across time.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: There's just so much growth that takes place in that, mentally and physically and emotionally and spiritually, and then like all of the things.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Like how you you've said so many things, so many good nuggets.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh, I remember this, I hope I remember this.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: But but I mean, first of all, I want to rewind a little because you had said um strength training is so important if and you think obviously it's the most important thing you could do for longevity.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: And I found that to be really timely with what I just saw the other day.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: I mean like yesterday, and which by the way, um side note, UPS just literally left.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: I'm not even gonna make that up.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: Anyway, back to so, but just the other day, Oprah had a reel where she is strength training at 72 years old.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: Oh wow, okay, she has gotten into this and she's got her own platform, her own stain saw and everything.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, oh my gosh, Adele, the same thing.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, yes, I 100% think that yoga is amazing and you can do heavy work with your muscles in yoga every single day.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: That would be my strength training, right?
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: But also it 100% feeds your mindset because you're battling with yourself just like you were in your truck.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: I can't do this, I can do this.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, if I can just make that beautiful equilibrium of gas and ease of the clutch to go and when I'm gonna go and how far I'm gonna go and how fast I'm gonna go, and make this like a seamless motion because, like you said, like life is gonna life you no matter what.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: You're gonna have the cars go around you and honk at you, flip you off, tell you how terrible you are and everything else, but you have to stay in your lane.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you can get out and go beat them up and abandon your car and your whole entire self and then like expect life to continue in a great way, you know.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: No, you're gonna stay in the stupid truck, you're gonna figure it out, and then with that foundation, you're gonna get to drive a Volkswagen Beetle and any other thing that has a a stick shift because you put in the work and the effort to learn how to make it easy, and that's it.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Like, and it's and it's easy for you today, but no, the struggles were real.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: And when you first start, like there's so much but to do, but there's so much to be so proud of.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: And I think that's where coaching can and that support you're talking about, like how valuable it is to have somebody with you alongside of you to go the extra mile, really.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, that is super cool.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: And I love that you broke it down.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: That's really uh that's really punny, like you know, the six shifts, but it's great, you know, like super.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: And I love the last one, the sunshine.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, I could just like 100%, you know, want sunshine, you need vitamin D to carry on anyway, no matter what.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: So I love that you are, I mean, you're an expert in your industry.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, hands down.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: We've seen you on the cover of magazines, well magazine.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: You've got your book out, you own your own gym, you've coached hundreds of amazing people through some challenging pieces of their life.
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: I think this book is probably going to be one of the most phenomenal things because you're doing it from how you've embodied it.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: You're not doing it from what you project or what you think might should happen.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: I think that's what sets these great authors apart, is like you're doing it from experience and what a gift that is to everybody to be able to tap into someone else's experience and hear and read and listen to how you can grow from that.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: I think that's awesome.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Can we find you your book?
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: And then also on your coaching services, did you say you're online and in person?
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: How does that work?
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: So I I do offer in person, I do mostly in-home private coaching, which right now is there's a wait list for that.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: But um I I train and coach people in person all over the county of San Diego.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: And I also do remote coaching, which is online.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: It's all whether it's in person or remote, it's all individually designed based on each person that I work with individually, based on their goals, where they're training, what their biggest top priority is, if there are any past-present injuries or limitations or anything that they're working through, or maybe a little bit afraid of um, you know, just getting going like it's it's something that is holding them back in a way.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: We, you know, I take all of that into consideration and then put a program together specifically for them.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: It also includes nutrition.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Of course, that is completely client-led as far as how much they're wanting to put into that, because I will definitely provide everything from, you know, getting as detailed and as specific as we need to in the realm of nutrition.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: If they just want a little bit of guidance or they have questions along the way, I am happy to, you know, answer those questions.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: Or we're doing everything to weekly check-ins and you know, keeping it as structured as as they feel like they're able to take on.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Because a new program is one thing if they're, especially if they're going from no fitness routine at all to then jumping into a fitness program, the very first thing is first just establishing that habit can be a big change.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: So we want to just first like find success in that.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: And little by little, you know, this is not something that we're like, okay, um, you know, next week we're gonna be at this on the scale or this in the, you know, body fat percentage and blah, blah, blah.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: It's over time.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: And so we're approaching it in that way.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: And I will be that, you know, support that they need along the way, and I will give them as much as they are open to receiving.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: So, you know, if it's and that can change over time.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: And so maybe we're just first establishing a really solid routine and then some little changes here and there throughout their nutrition, and then we continue to just ramp it up as we go.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: And that goes for the programming as well.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: So, based on the movements, what they have access to, of course, that um plays into the different movements that that I'm able to program and and the different things that they're able to do if they're training at home versus training in a gym or you know, fill in the blanks.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: So that's how that works.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: And then I yes, my book is also online.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: Um, it is on, if you go to my Instagram, you will find pretty much anything and everything you could possibly want or need, or maybe didn't know you needed.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: But um, it has the link to my book and my website and my YouTube channel, which has a lot of coaching tutorials and progression videos and stuff, a lot of different weightlifting, yes, functional fitness movements, weight Olympic weightlifting, but it's a good solid amount of body weight training and in just gymnastics foundation that you'll find there that you can really do anywhere and you don't need a lot of equipment.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: But my book is on Amazon, it's also on Audible and Kindle.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: And yeah, that's awesome.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you, Nicole.
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: I'll definitely put your Instagram in the show notes so any listener can find you for sure.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: And your book.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: I know I'm excited to read it.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: I really am.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: I want to see how you dive into these six shifts, and I think it's gonna be awesome.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: So I'm happy to learn from you.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: I hope everyone else is too.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: I'm sure they are.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: And if there's one thing you could leave us with, what would it be?
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: This is something I I say quite often, and something that helped me so much.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: There was a period of time when I went through dealing with a good amount of anxiety that was very paralyzing and something that was just this super simple piece of wisdom from this woman that was maybe she was she was like my adopted grandma, I'll say.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: But she just said, you know, do the next thing.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: And then when you're done doing that thing, then do the next thing and then the next thing, and you don't need to worry about what comes, you know, what you're doing after that thing that you're doing right now until you get there.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: And that I still to this day apply that, and it is so helpful because sometimes when life gets overwhelming, that's what we need to just kind of lean into the simplicity of okay, I just need to do the next thing, and you'll you'll find your way and you'll figure out what that next thing is when you get there, and you don't need to worry about it right now, just as long as you do the next thing.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: It's beautiful.
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: I actually felt that in my heart, like I had little chills just kind of like ting and tingle through my heart.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: So I felt that.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: That's really sweet.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Uh well, thank you so much, Nicole.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate your time and explaining the six shifts.
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: I think again, I'm excited for you, and this is just the best.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: So thank you.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: Uh, wasn't Nicole such a little gym?
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: I love talking with her.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: I loved our conversation so much, and she is so great.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: She sent me her book, and I hope you go and get it.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: It is Lip Fit from the Inside Out and the Six Shifts to Living Your Life.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: I hope you enjoyed everything she got to talk about today.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: And if you're curious, all of her information is going to be in the show notes so you can contact her or follow her directly.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: All right, so let's bring it in.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: Let's wrap this up with one breath into an all.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Come on, bring the hands into the heart center.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: Take a big breath in the tips too.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: The light means not as lightning to be used.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: We share the same light.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: Remember, we have a simple project.
