- 0:00Speaker 1: Last segment with Gino Oriama. As we're here on the
- 0:02Speaker 1: Women's Basketball Coaches Show, and we are in the well
- 0:04Speaker 1: we used to be the conference room. It's a smaller
- 0:06Speaker 1: conference room. What's upon a time we did this show
- 0:08Speaker 1: live from here, many many moons ago here. But last
- 0:12Speaker 1: night your kids got to experience something that some of
- 0:14Speaker 1: them had never experienced before an NBA game, as they
- 0:17Speaker 1: went to the garden to see the next play. And
- 0:19Speaker 1: I guess Paige hooked them up pretty good.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, she has so many great opportunities come her way,
- 0:28Speaker 2: and she's so good about sharing those opportunities and experiences
- 0:34Speaker 2: that she's fortunate enough to have. You know, apparently I
- 0:42Speaker 2: saw the right up. It was the worst offensive game
- 0:46Speaker 2: that the Knicks have played, I think this year. So
- 0:50Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not sure they're anxious to have that
- 0:53Speaker 2: group back. But how many chances do you get to
- 0:57Speaker 2: go to the garden to watch the next game playing
- 1:00Speaker 2: NBA and all the hooplah and everything that goes with
- 1:03Speaker 2: it and all the celebrities that are there, blah blah blah,
- 1:05Speaker 2: and so page does a lot for for our basketball
- 1:10Speaker 2: team on the court and off the court, And last
- 1:14Speaker 2: night was just another example of that.
- 1:16Speaker 1: All right, let's go on the injury front here, Aubury
- 1:19Speaker 1: coming along.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah, she does. She does a little bit
- 1:22Speaker 2: more every day. You know, her timetable is again up
- 1:28Speaker 2: to her when she feels it. There's glimpses, you know,
- 1:33Speaker 2: of the old Aubrey. It's not enough of them right now,
- 1:37Speaker 2: but hopefully little by little, and that'll be another adjustment
- 1:43Speaker 2: we'll have to make, you know. So that's kind of
- 1:47Speaker 2: one that I'm looking forward to as well.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be nice to have a full compliment. And
- 1:50Speaker 1: then I've been kind of reluctant to ask about Caroline,
- 1:53Speaker 1: just knowing the situation that that she's going through, but
- 1:56Speaker 1: you brought somebody brought her up in the in the
- 2:00Speaker 1: media session, and you mentioned that she has been one
- 2:03Speaker 1: heck of a teammates during this whole this whole tenure
- 2:07Speaker 1: for her, particularly this season, just getting back with her teammates,
- 2:10Speaker 1: being there dealing with everything that she's gone through, and
- 2:13Speaker 1: it just sounds like she has been done a phenomenal
- 2:15Speaker 1: job for your for your team. She has.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I've been, you know, unbelievably impressed by her one her
- 2:25Speaker 2: work ethic to try to get herself back to her
- 2:30Speaker 2: just just commitment to her teammates and being a part
- 2:36Speaker 2: of it and pulling them aside one at a time,
- 2:40Speaker 2: or gathering them up, the advice, the encouragement. Her voice
- 2:47Speaker 2: is the one voice you hear in our gym constantly, NonStop,
- 2:54Speaker 2: and for someone who's not playing, that's especially gratifying to see.
- 3:01Speaker 2: That makes her a unique individual, and it sets a
- 3:05Speaker 2: tone and it makes our other players start to understand,
- 3:09Speaker 2: you know, this is what I'm supposed to be like,
- 3:11Speaker 2: this is the way it's supposed to be. So I
- 3:14Speaker 2: couldn't be happier for And I hope it works out,
- 3:17Speaker 2: you know, cross my fingers, and because I don't think
- 3:21Speaker 2: anybody deserves it more than.
- 3:23Speaker 1: She does now, because you get to witness this every day.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And let's say things don't work out where she doesn't
- 3:28Speaker 1: play again, could you see her coaching down the road
- 3:30Speaker 1: with what she's been doing.
- 3:32Speaker 2: You know, kids are weird, you know, you don't know,
- 3:35Speaker 2: you don't know. It's certainly something that staying in the game,
- 3:42Speaker 2: I know is something that she's talked about a lot.
- 3:47Speaker 2: From a playing standpoint. You know, I'm going to play
- 3:51Speaker 2: someplace when I graduate from from college, if that's not
- 3:57Speaker 2: available to her, I think there'll be opportunities for her
- 4:02Speaker 2: to stay in the game in some way, shape or form,
- 4:05Speaker 2: And certainly I'm gonna I'm want to help her with that.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Ye xavior tomorrow night young team a very foreign They
- 4:14Speaker 1: got a lot of foreign players on the team, and
- 4:16Speaker 1: a lot of it's because of the portal and and
- 4:18Speaker 1: it just seems like that's a direction that a lot
- 4:19Speaker 1: of places are going to now even I mean, you've
- 4:22Speaker 1: got more international players in recent years.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, the world's small, you know, you can you
- 4:30Speaker 2: can understand that a kid being in Connecticut and going, oh,
- 4:35Speaker 2: I love you've got women's basketball. Then you know, we
- 4:38Speaker 2: go to Cuahia and go, hey, what's your favorite? Oh man,
- 4:41Speaker 2: I've been following you u CON for forever and you're thinking, wow,
- 4:45Speaker 2: So the world has become so interconnected. Everybody knows everything,
- 4:50Speaker 2: everybody sees every clip, you know, And and I believe
- 4:55Speaker 2: that those players have a tremendous desire to come here
- 5:00Speaker 2: and play. They're they're there, their work ethic and their maturity,
- 5:10Speaker 2: how much they have to grow up while they're over there,
- 5:14Speaker 2: and how much they how much independence they have. It's
- 5:18Speaker 2: done like the culture here in this country, and then
- 5:22Speaker 2: to be able to say I want to go three thousand,
- 5:25Speaker 2: five thousand, whatever the case, it is away from home
- 5:28Speaker 2: and my mommy's not coming with me, you know. And
- 5:31Speaker 2: they're not going to come and help me fix up
- 5:33Speaker 2: my room, you know. Uh, And they're not going to
- 5:36Speaker 2: come up every weekend and make my you know, make
- 5:38Speaker 2: soup for me. You know. They they truly are independent,
- 5:43Speaker 2: and they really are mature, and I think they they
- 5:48Speaker 2: appreciate the opportunity so much, and I love coaching them.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I just think they're fantastic. And I was self spot
- 5:57Speaker 2: in my heart for immigrants.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Help the case in point right here, Gino. Thanks as always,
- 6:02Speaker 1: we'll do it again tomorrow night.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I appreciate it, all right, Thanks Bob, all right.
