- 1:12How was your trip?
- 1:15So, your holiday?
- 1:16It was so great.
- 1:18Anything exciting?
- 1:19So, we got engaged.
- 1:29I thought we were going to tease that out a little bit more.
- 1:31No, I was going to, but I was like, I've actually been quite low-key about the whole thing.
- 1:34Show people the ring.
- 1:35There it is.
- 1:37There it is.
- 1:37I've been so low-key about the whole thing.
- 1:39And yesterday, Lucy, our social media manager, was like, you've got to start celebrating this.
- 1:43Totally.
- 1:44It only happens once.
- 1:45I know.
- 1:46And you're only like a fiancé.
- 1:48It's quite a sex.
- 1:49So I, but this is the thing I sort of tried to just tease things out or like say in a funny way.
- 1:53Like the first person I called was my mum.
- 1:55So Luke had called my mum and so she knew.
- 1:59Oh my God.
- 1:59But I would love.
- 2:00Do you actually send me the most ridiculous message going, hope it's a holiday of surprises or something?
- 2:05And I was like, what is wrong with you?
- 2:07If I was a mum, I'd do that too.
- 2:08I'd be like, any updates?
- 2:09Yeah.
- 2:10How was your day?
- 2:10Like, every day I'd be like, I'd be the worst secret.
- 2:13Lucky I knew and was, like, aware that it was happening.
- 2:15Because otherwise it would have been, really, you would have ruined the surprise, Mum.
- 2:20Anyway, I called her and I was like, how was the holiday?
- 2:22I was like, great.
- 2:23You know, sunbathing, reading books, napping, eating really young food, got engaged, like, kind of just, like, included it in the list.
- 2:30And she got so mad.
- 2:31She was like, oh, nice of you to tell me.
- 2:33I was like, Mum.
- 2:35You're like, this is, I am telling you.
- 2:36This was a joke.
- 2:36I don't.
- 2:37It's a joke, so that didn't go well.
- 2:38You should be like, he proposed and I said no.
- 2:40That would have really put a spanner.
- 2:41Oh, God.
- 2:42Oh, God.
- 2:42I mean, like I told the girls at work, like, on the call on the Monday after.
- 2:46And they said the same thing.
- 2:46I just sort of buried it in with all this other stuff.
- 2:49So I thought today on the episode, I'll just go in with a bang.
- 2:52Just hold the mic.
- 2:53Engage.
- 2:54Just, you know.
- 2:54Really happy about it.
- 2:55We're going to talk about this.
- 2:57So today, we're going to be discussing it.
- 2:59And yes, it is on the wrong hand.
- 3:01Yes.
- 3:01Yes, I'm wearing it on my right hand.
- 3:03I'm, do you know, I've been so weird about the whole thing.
- 3:08I found myself at one point Googling, why don't I want an engagement ring?
- 3:13It's been a whole thing.
- 3:15I haven't really known how I felt about it, but the reason I'm wearing it on my right.
- 3:20So you won't know this, Vic, but as someone who has been quite single through her 20s.
- 3:25Yeah.
- 3:26And 30s, I found myself obsessively checking or like noticing when everyone's engaged and married, like whether it's a Barry's class, a Pilates class, in a work environment, men and women.
- 3:37I was just like, hey, how are you?
- 3:39It was like looking at their eyes, but at their hand.
- 3:42And it made me feel really shit a lot of the time.
- 3:45I was like, I'm so behind or whatever.
- 3:47All these people are engaged in marriage and I'm the only one that's not.
- 3:50And every time I would say it, it would be this like reminder and pang of like, I haven't met my person.
- 3:55And therefore my life is not, you know, it would just, it made me feel really sad actually.
- 4:00And I had this moment in a relationship where we were walking down the street holding hands.
- 4:05And I remember thinking, everyone must be looking at us thinking we're really happy.
- 4:08And I'm really unhappy.
- 4:11And this is kind of awful.
- 4:12Yeah.
- 4:13I just feel like the way people perceive love and relationships, just because someone's wearing an engagement ring or is married, you have no idea what their relationship is like.
- 4:22No idea.
- 4:23And I think it... Or it could be someone like you that's just like, I don't want to wear it on my...
- 4:27Totally.
- 4:27I'm going to wear it on... No, like the other way.
- 4:29Yeah, they could just be wearing it on random... Like me, you know?
- 4:31Yeah.
- 4:31I'm just like, no, I want to wear it on this finger because...
- 4:33So true.
- 4:33No, that feels so weird.
- 4:35That feels so weird.
- 4:36It does feel weird.
- 4:36I feel like I've jinxed it or something.
- 4:37Yeah, I never... Well, I never put a ring on that finger.
- 4:39And now I'm like, why have I never put a ring on that finger?
- 4:42But yeah, I think I'm doing it in solidarity of the girls who are holding out for the one.
- 4:46Because I am so, so glad that I met him later in life, that I had time to explore myself, my career, know what I want.
- 4:57And I just hate the idea of people feeling...
- 5:01like behind because they haven't and i think it sucks and i've been there for a long time so i just am like i'm just happy wearing it wear it on your finger i want i honestly was like i might get it resized around my middle finger oh no i think it would look cool on the middle finger um we need the story okay yeah right so basically before you do okay
- 5:19I've got another little bunch of flowers.
- 5:21This is so cute.
- 5:23This is the cutest thing ever.
- 5:25Thank you so much, Mickey.
- 5:26Happy engagement.
- 5:27Oh, I love it.
- 5:28So I'll hold it for the story.
- 5:29Yeah, yeah, nice.
- 5:30Yeah.
- 5:31Also, the girls like Lucy and Emily, and they all got me roses in a cardinal's face.
- 5:35For context, I haven't even heard this story.
- 5:37Oh, perfect.
- 5:37You just settle on it.
- 5:38I know.
- 5:38Okay.
- 5:39But it's gotten bad, hasn't it?
- 5:40Because like any personal thing now is just like,
- 5:43Save it for the pod.
- 5:44I know.
- 5:45I feel bad not asking, but then I'm like, well, I'm going to hear it on Monday.
- 5:50Okay.
- 5:51I have so many questions.
- 5:52Sorry.
- 5:52Okay.
- 5:52Do you want to just do a Q&A?
- 5:54Yeah.
- 5:54When's the wedding?
- 5:55August next year.
- 5:56Oh, nice.
- 5:57Whereabouts?
- 5:5720th to the 23rd.
- 5:58Put it in your diary.
- 5:59Oh, jeez.
- 6:00Okay.
- 6:00Whereabouts?
- 6:01Everyone that's listening is welcome.
- 6:03If anyone flies to the UK.
- 6:04I won't ask where it is because you might have a few people turn up.
- 6:07It's sort of country slash by beaches in Cornwall.
- 6:11I've got my flights now.
- 6:12Yeah, yeah.
- 6:12Yeah.
- 6:13That would be great.
- 6:14Found a really beautiful venue though.
- 6:16Oh, nice.
- 6:16Quite a lot of the show.
- 6:17Have you been wedding dress shopping yet?
- 6:19No, don't know what I'm going to wear.
- 6:20Sorry, I also don't want to be that person.
- 6:22Like you've been engaged for a week and it's like, when's the wedding?
- 6:25Where's the wedding?
- 6:25It's like, just give me a week to bathe in my... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:28Yeah.
- 6:29Well...
- 6:30So I'm not one to be organized with anything, particularly my personal life.
- 6:35But I thought if I want people coming from New Zealand, I'm going to have to.
- 6:38Totally.
- 6:39I need to give them as much warning as possible.
- 6:41So I was like, I'm going to do it.
- 6:42I know.
- 6:43It actually will be really fun.
- 6:44Anyway.
- 6:45engagement so yeah what other stories what other questions do you yeah i'm like hmm now i'm like oh god where will i stay what is that oh i need to book flights and everybody's the bride of the bride what does she wear story story story okay so this is not going to be as exciting as it should be but i knew we were getting engaged it's quite a modern love story so we'd we'd spoken about it yeah and
- 7:10Luke was just like, did you know on that trip?
- 7:12Yeah.
- 7:13Like literally the whole holiday was planned around us celebrating getting engaged.
- 7:18So we were like, let's do four or five days on a Greek Island.
- 7:21And then you were meeting your family, which was quite good.
- 7:23It's like we can have our own time together.
- 7:26you know getting used to being engaged and then we can go and celebrate with the family yeah so we had like five days just us two and then we went to on a boat with my family which was nice and then next week we're going to spend a week with his family so nice we planned it timing wise so that we could do that but we were literally on the holiday being like should we do it today should we engage today or tomorrow like it was a whole like we were planning it together
- 7:49So weird.
- 7:50Everyone will be like, what?
- 7:52I quite liked knowing because I've been excited about it for months.
- 7:55Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:56And also been able to process it because it's quite a massive deal to choose to spend your life with somebody.
- 8:01So, yeah.
- 8:02So, basically, the day we got engaged, you will be shocked at this.
- 8:07We went for a run along the coast.
- 8:08Nice.
- 8:09And for some reason, they were like, should we try to do 10K?
- 8:11Yeah.
- 8:12I haven't run 10K in perhaps five decades.
- 8:15Yeah.
- 8:16Ran 10K along the coast.
- 8:18Gorgeous.
- 8:18Fun.
- 8:19Nearly died.
- 8:20And then we spent the day at the beach, had some cocktails, read books, napped.
- 8:25Yeah.
- 8:26Just like really nice.
- 8:27And then went home.
- 8:28We were in our robes in the hotel that we booked, which was like really nice accommodation.
- 8:32Yeah.
- 8:33Opened a bottle of champagne.
- 8:35He gave me the ring.
- 8:35And then we went out for like, watched the sunset, had a beautiful dinner.
- 8:38Did you try and get like...
- 8:40upgrades on like bookings and I would have been like we just got engaged can we have the nice table?
- 8:44Can I tell you the funniest thing?
- 8:46So no is the answer to your question but I should have.
- 8:49I know.
- 8:49That's a lie.
- 8:50For a few of the bookings I made at this Greg Island celebration I was like engagement.
- 8:55No one did anything exciting which was kind of a letdown.
- 8:58I actually sat down at the dinner that we'd booked on the day we got engaged and I thought
- 9:02Maybe they'll bring out some champagne.
- 9:03Like nothing.
- 9:05I did that.
- 9:05I tried to get a flight upgrade and I put the ring on this finger.
- 9:08Did you?
- 9:08And I was like, hi.
- 9:10I was like, we just got engaged.
- 9:12It didn't work.
- 9:14Did not work.
- 9:15It's so true.
- 9:16But then when I was on this boat with my family, I was panicking because they actually hadn't met Luke before.
- 9:22So it was quite, you know, a lot.
- 9:25And then they're on a boat together for a week.
- 9:26And then they're on a boat.
- 9:27I mean.
- 9:27That is an intense week regardless.
- 9:29So the whole thing was weird.
- 9:31And you know what it's like when you get on a boat?
- 9:32It's like stressing.
- 9:33Everyone's like trying to lug all their bags and groceries.
- 9:35Like it was a lot of admin.
- 9:37It's like, this is not the time.
- 9:39So I took the ring off.
- 9:40And then we bought a bottle of champagne.
- 9:43And the plan was at sunset to be like,
- 9:45Cheers.
- 9:45And I wanted to film it or be like, cheers to the best holiday, all our family together.
- 9:51Also, we got engaged and I pulled the champagne up and everyone was like, well, we've already had a couple of cocktails.
- 9:57Maybe let's save it for tomorrow.
- 9:59And I was like, okay.
- 10:01And like panicked and went and put it back in the icebox.
- 10:03And then Luke and I were like standing around the side of the boat being like, shit.
- 10:07And I was like, all right, this is too much.
- 10:09There's now so much pressure.
- 10:10I'm feeling overwhelmed.
- 10:12And you're kind of on a board.
- 10:13Like, you can't really be like, yeah.
- 10:14I know.
- 10:14And then we sat down at the dinner table to eat.
- 10:17To blurt it out.
- 10:18And I fully blurted out.
- 10:19So my sister did this really cute speech.
- 10:21She's like, so nice all together.
- 10:23Oh, that's so Lucy.
- 10:24This is so fun.
- 10:25It was actually Tiffany.
- 10:26She was like, love it.
- 10:27So cute.
- 10:28Sorry, Lucy.
- 10:29And then everyone was like going in for the chairs.
- 10:30I go, okay.
- 10:31And we also got engaged.
- 10:33And everyone just dropped their, like, knives and forks and were like, what?
- 10:37Like, so shocked.
- 10:39Like, not in a cute way.
- 10:40They were like, what was that delivery?
- 10:43Oh, my God.
- 10:43So awkward.
- 10:43And like, why were you nervous?
- 10:45And Luke was like, I've never seen you nervous.
- 10:47That was so weird.
- 10:49So actually telling my family it was a weirder, more nerve-wracking experience than actually getting engaged.
- 10:54But the funniest part is that our skipper, who was...
- 10:58let's just say a piece of work, not the most fun person to be stuck on a boat with, came down to eat his dinner.
- 11:03We'd just met him.
- 11:04My step-mom turns to him and goes, oh, you won't believe it.
- 11:07These two just got engaged.
- 11:08And he goes, well, each their own.
- 11:11We all make our own choices.
- 11:13And the whole family was like, cool.
- 11:17Thank you.
- 11:18Was he not like Luke or something?
- 11:19No.
- 11:19He was just like basically saying marriage is a dumb idea.
- 11:21Don't get married.
- 11:22Let's just fake it for like, let people, yeah.
- 11:25Give us a fucking five minutes.
- 11:27Oh, great.
- 11:27Also, he's married.
- 11:28I'm like...
- 11:29You weirdo.
- 11:30Anyway, I mean, we could do a whole episode of my engagement.
- 11:32I know.
- 11:33Maybe we should.
- 11:34How long have you guys been together?
- 11:36Our first date, we actually were looking at this yesterday in the office, was the 15th of October last year.
- 11:41So like in two weeks.
- 11:43Oh my gosh.
- 11:44And we were going through my phone and I found the screenshots of our hinge conversation of how we first started chatting.
- 11:51Oh my gosh.
- 11:51And videos of me trying to decide what to wear on the date.
- 11:55Me being like... To him.
- 11:56To him.
- 11:56No, sending it to like the group chat.
- 11:59Not to, no, God, no.
- 12:00Being like, you know, guys just have shit tastes.
- 12:02So like, what do we think?
- 12:03Do I look a bit like the Matrix?
- 12:04Like it's like, oh my God.
- 12:06I remember when you've been on a few dates and you came back and you asked him for my opinion.
- 12:10What did I say?
- 12:12I'm not going to say.
- 12:13Was it the long jacket?
- 12:14Was it regards to his ugly jacket?
- 12:16Yeah, yeah.
- 12:17No, there was like, I think it's just his fashion sense.
- 12:21Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:22He's got this hideous beige.
- 12:24And I can't remember what I said.
- 12:26I was probably like, do not date him.
- 12:27Yeah, yeah.
- 12:28It's like a soccer mum puffer jacket that comes to his face.
- 12:30But I'm glad we got past that because it's not all about what people wear.
- 12:33Do you know what I love about him?
- 12:34But when you're first dating, it's like the colors.
- 12:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:36You kind of always have to go off as like appearances.
- 12:38Totally.
- 12:38So you're kind of like.
- 12:39First impressions.
- 12:39Yeah.
- 12:40Yeah, we got on his little scooter on the first date.
- 12:43That's like.
- 12:44And he put on... You're like, he's so lovely, but he just wears weird stuff.
- 12:47He wore this horrible jacket.
- 12:50And it was...
- 12:51I mean, it's still in his wardrobe.
- 12:53There has been conversation about perhaps that could be re-gifted to someone else.
- 12:57Or just like lose it in the move.
- 12:59Oh, yeah.
- 13:00That's not a bad idea.
- 13:00There's lots...
- 13:01Someone told me that and I was so gutted that I didn't do that.
- 13:04To be fair, he makes jokes about it.
- 13:06Yeah.
- 13:06Like he knows it's hideous.
- 13:07Yeah.
- 13:08But the thing I love about him is that he actually doesn't really...
- 13:11care, which is refreshing.
- 13:13Yeah.
- 13:14If anyone actually has any other questions, very happy to share.
- 13:17And if anyone is in the country on the 22nd of August, feel free to come along.
- 13:23Yeah.
- 13:23Everyone's welcome.
- 13:24Very big venue.
- 13:25Bigger the better.
- 13:26Weddings are so cheap.
- 13:28Exactly.
- 13:30You might have to pay for your seat, but that's fine.
- 13:33Until BYO.
- 13:34Just do a potluck.
- 13:35Everyone bring a plate and a bottle of wine.
- 13:37And also buy your flight from New Zealand.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:39And pay for your accommodation.
- 13:41Do you mind spending 10 grand to be an attendee at my wedding?
- 13:43Yeah.
- 13:44No, very exciting.
- 13:46Very exciting, Soph.
- 13:47Yeah, it was really fun.
- 13:50I actually remember.
- 13:51Oh, God.
- 13:53No, it was like when I just got with Flower Man and I was making jokes about...
- 13:58you being pregnant.
- 13:59What do you mean?
- 13:59Like, you were, like, feeling really sick or something.
- 14:01And I was like, oh, you must be pregnant.
- 14:03And you're like, that's actually really hurtful because I'm just, like, so single right now.
- 14:07Oh, really?
- 14:09And I got really upset with you.
- 14:10And I was like, oh, my God, I'm so sorry.
- 14:11I was just kind of, like, having some batter.
- 14:13And I was like, no, that is quite shit.
- 14:15Oh, yeah.
- 14:15Because I wasn't even dating anyone.
- 14:17That's right.
- 14:18And now I'm like, jeez, slow down, girl.
- 14:20Me slow down.
- 14:22No, it's like now I'm like, oh, good.
- 14:24Maybe.
- 14:25No, it's so funny, isn't it?
- 14:26Because I do think a year of getting engaged maybe is fast.
- 14:31When you're older, you know.
- 14:32Yeah.
- 14:32I mean, we've lived together for six months.
- 14:34It's like, it just doesn't feel.
- 14:36I knew so early.
- 14:38That was actually something cute I did when we got engaged.
- 14:41I went through my journal and I found something I'd written from after our third date.
- 14:47Cute.
- 14:47Yeah.
- 14:48And it was pretty cute.
- 14:50I literally said, I think I might marry this man.
- 14:53It was pretty.
- 14:54It was actually really sweet what I wrote.
- 14:56And I read that to him, like a little bit of it, and then I immediately felt embarrassed and put it away.
- 15:02But it was really sweet.
- 15:03I hear quite a few stories like that when people are like, when you know.
- 15:05He didn't know.
- 15:07He was like, do I go on a fourth?
- 15:09I don't know.
- 15:09It was just kind of weird.
- 15:10I was quite serious for the first two days.
- 15:13We had a lot going on at work at the time.
- 15:15Yeah.
- 15:15And I think now he knows a lot of context.
- 15:18He was like, you know, it was around the time the curve investments was happening.
- 15:22Like there's just lots of stuff going on.
- 15:23So he went into me.
- 15:24He's like, no, I really had a good time and you were super cool and great.
- 15:27I was definitely going to go on a second date.
- 15:29But I wasn't like, I've met the one, you know.
- 15:31And I was like, okay.
- 15:32Okay.
- 15:33You're like, that's a bit hurtful.
- 15:34Neither.
- 15:35Neither at all.
- 15:36Riz that up.
- 15:37I'll just delete my WhatsApps to my friends after the day.
- 15:39Rip up that journal entry.
- 15:43Yes, yes, yes.
- 15:44Save the date.
- 15:46Yes, save the date.
- 15:48Oh, my God.
- 15:48But you know what?
- 15:49Taking a break, a podcast break, I think we should do every year, like a two-week break, it was actually quite nice to just have a rest, you know?
- 15:56And now I feel like I have things to say.
- 15:58Now I've got a lot to say.
- 16:00And we've just spent half an hour talking about engagement.
- 16:03Sorry.
- 16:03No, it's great.
- 16:10Should we talk about the news?
- 16:12We talked about some really great things happening, but there's been a lot of the not great things that have been happening in the news lately.
- 16:18And it's actually made me so angry.
- 16:20I don't know whether to channel my anger, but maybe on a podcast.
- 16:24I think on a podcast is a good way to do it.
- 16:27Yeah, I feel quite proud actually of the amount.
- 16:29So for context, we're talking about Cornell University.
- 16:32Obviously this went viral last week.
- 16:34Everyone will have seen it.
- 16:35I'm glad we're talking about it because when you have a platform or you can share, it's important to talk about fun things like getting engaged and the less fun things like what is happening in America at the moment.
- 16:46I feel really proud of the amount of women who have platforms who generally are comedians or just talk about funny things and come out and –
- 16:54just totally gone off brand with what their content normally is.
- 16:57And it's like, this isn't good enough.
- 16:58Yeah.
- 16:59They're just speaking about what they feel passionate about.
- 17:00It's not in relation to what their platform is.
- 17:03I 100% agree.
- 17:04If you've got a platform and you can reach tens, hundreds of thousands of people, like use it to your advantage.
- 17:10And we're a female financial empowerment platform.
- 17:14And yes, we're going to look at the financial angle of this, but it is just so, so grating.
- 17:22I mean, there's 95% of women that listen to this podcast, so I assume everyone knows what we're talking about.
- 17:26But if you don't, there was an incident in Cornell University two years ago where a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted.
- 17:34And it kind of – the punishment and the accountability was not up to standard.
- 17:40Yeah.
- 17:40And it's now come out.
- 17:41There's so many – there was a WhatsApp group.
- 17:44with men condoning it and no one speaking up there was all yeah it's it's pretty heartbreaking to see that in 2026 or this was two years ago this is still happening i should have posted the other day and it was like we've had the weinsteins we've had me too we've you know and listed all these other and like and we've got now this corner when is enough enough and yes we all get up in arms and we all want change but like
- 18:09Change doesn't happen and it's so incredibly frustrating.
- 18:12I think without going into too much jet on the actual case, just given everyone will have seen this last week, as well as all the content that's come out since, we're obviously, most people that listen to this podcast, I mean, it's 5% men.
- 18:27But one of the things that it really sparked for me was the importance of the.
- 18:32explaining to brothers, friends, anyone, partners who don't understand the correlation between really microaggression and what we've seen in this case.
- 18:45So what I've loved everyone else talking about is just the idea that you should call out any kind of behavior that is remotely sexist.
- 18:56It's like racism.
- 18:57If you don't stand up and...
- 18:59and prevent it happening when you see it happening in front of you.
- 19:02Even just in a small way.
- 19:03In a small way.
- 19:04You're condoning it.
- 19:05It's the whole it's not all men, which is the main thing that's come out here, is that, yeah, it's not all men that go and do this.
- 19:10But also no one stopped it from happening, apparently.
- 19:13And also there is an onus or responsibility in the same way you brought up the example of racism where, yeah, sure, you might not be racist and you might not say things overtly to someone that is racist.
- 19:23But if you hear something that's a slight derogatory slur and you don't,
- 19:27speak up or tell them it's incorrect or wrong or they shouldn't say it it's part of a problem that spirals and becomes bigger and it's a big spectrum and so if we can educate all of the wonderful men in our life about the importance of taking accountability way before something like that happens or calling out behavior that's marginal all of that helps to
- 19:50And it's important.
- 19:51I mean, there's so many great things I've seen online about this in terms of conversations.
- 19:54But I think the one that stuck for me was women do the work, men have the power.
- 19:58And that's exactly what we are trying to change with this podcast is power comes from money.
- 20:05And it comes from education and it comes from confidence.
- 20:08And so it's like, how do we switch that up?
- 20:11I thought it was really interesting when we looked at the model of universities because I didn't realise how... How many women are at universities as well.
- 20:19But also how they're funded.
- 20:20Yeah.
- 20:21So Cornell was the first Ivy League university to admit women back in 1870.
- 20:25It's not exactly like women are new to the campus.
- 20:28No.
- 20:29And women are over 50% of, on average, of Ivy League universities.
- 20:34It's a lot.
- 20:34It's a lot.
- 20:36They must have improved in the last 10, 20 years by...
- 20:39astronomical amounts yeah probably yeah so the financial model of university so there is tuition fees which is the biggest so naturally you pay to go to university and cornell and ivy league universities it's like 100 grand us a year it is like for the elite elite elite a lot of that is funded by scholarships etc but like it is so much if you think that what what you have to be earning or like
- 21:05For that to not be... Is that just tuition?
- 21:07That's tuition, yeah.
- 21:08Holy...
- 21:08I know.
- 21:09So yes, tuition fees are about 25% of a university's revenue.
- 21:13And most of that is propped up by international students.
- 21:15So international students subsidize domestic students.
- 21:18So they pay...
- 21:19They pay even more than that.
- 21:20They pay even more.
- 21:20They pay like triple sometimes, yeah.
- 21:22So much money.
- 21:23It's so much money.
- 21:24About 20% of a university's revenue is from investment returns.
- 21:29What do you mean?
- 21:30So they have endowment funds, which is kind of like...
- 21:33The Curve Fund, for example.
- 21:34But their revenue comes from the return they get on that money.
- 21:38But where does the money even come from in the first place?
- 21:40The money that they're investing?
- 21:41Donors, fees.
- 21:43It comes from – yeah, and they pull it all together and then that generates investment returns.
- 21:47So really wealthy people that have left or that want to donate towards – Yeah, alumni, all of that.
- 21:52That's amazing.
- 21:53Yeah.
- 21:54Those investment returns are about 20% of their overall revenue.
- 21:57A lot.
- 21:58So if that endowment pool, that pool of money, decreases –
- 22:03than the dollar value that you're getting, you know, if you're getting now 10% on a smaller sum.
- 22:08So if donors aren't donating because of all this, like if we look at Brandt Cornell, like the repercussions are going to be like substantial.
- 22:19Also, if they have to pay a huge fine to be held accountable.
- 22:22But also when the market swings, like in 2022 markets fell.
- 22:27quite a lot.
- 22:28And that impacted a lot of universities.
- 22:31And they have to go out there and do this fundraising to get more donors.
- 22:33Imagine trying to do it now.
- 22:36And that's why they take a very conservative approach because they don't want big wild swings of like, down 20% one year, up.
- 22:42They want super slow, steady.
- 22:46That's why they spread it around lots of different fund managers to manage the money.
- 22:50But yeah, if Brand Cornell...
- 22:53is tarnished by this which to be honest if I was a female and I had a pick of Ivy Leagues and I was super smart and could afford you know to pick which one I went to would I be picking Cornell also if I was one of those people that had money to donate I wouldn't be choosing that totally one of the biggest donors is a female actually she was Apple's first head of HR and she's given Cornell over 100 million US dollars surely she can be knocking on that door and say excuse me what this is
- 23:19This is coming back to before is like money is power.
- 23:22Like you're so right.
- 23:23If all these donors go, actually, I'm not donating to you anymore.
- 23:26Or, you know, they don't fund institutions like this that condone behavior like that.
- 23:32That's how we bring about change.
- 23:34It makes me think the amount of publicity that this case is getting.
- 23:38is actually really important because I hadn't heard of this university before.
- 23:43I'm sure a lot of people who are donating or involved are very across it, but it'll be really interesting to see if they struggle financially because of the fallout of this.
- 23:53So they've got $11 billion in their endowment fund.
- 23:56Right.
- 23:56So not exactly short on change.
- 23:58They're not exactly short, but...
- 24:00Again, it has to fund the running and all the expenses of the university.
- 24:05So if that shrinks… Also, I would not be applying to go to that university.
- 24:08No, neither.
- 24:09In a way, I think understanding the financials behind a university and the fact that there very much could be actual impacts on the university that…
- 24:19Impacts them quite negatively.
- 24:20This is a really great example of Cornell was predominantly men for so long.
- 24:27There's predominantly men in the administration.
- 24:28There's predominantly men at the police force that handled the case.
- 24:32There's predominantly men at the district attorney, which is like the next one up.
- 24:34There is predominantly male donors.
- 24:37Like money is power.
- 24:38Money is influence.
- 24:39And this is why we need to be in control of money more.
- 24:44We need to be growing our own money.
- 24:45We need to be involved in decision-making around money because money does –
- 24:49have influence even what happened with Ed Sheeran and Macklemore yeah in case you missed it basically Ed told Macklemore he couldn't be his support act for the rest of the tour because the person that owns the venues and the venues and stadiums and promotions basically have so much money that they could just control and they would like to Ed if you if you don't kick Macklemore off you're not
- 25:12I think all of these examples, as you say, they show how important it is for women to have money, to be able to influence decisions that matter.
- 25:21and create a more equal, safe world for everybody to live in.
- 25:25And it's also something we've always spoken about.
- 25:28Even if you don't have millions to donate or anything, it's like your decision of how you spend your money, how you invest your money, at a micro level has repercussions.
- 25:39It is you deciding what you're going to support.
- 25:42If you're buying from the shop, you're supporting them and their products.
- 25:44If you're investing in this company, you're supporting what they do.
- 25:47No one go to Cornell University.
- 25:48No one.
- 25:50If I saw someone has graduated from Cornell University, oh, sorry.
- 25:55Yeah, sorry.
- 25:57Yeah.
- 25:58Gosh.
- 25:58Yes.
- 25:59I hope change comes about.
- 26:01I do.
- 26:01I think it's coming.
- 26:02I feel it.
- 26:03We're at the start of the wave.
- 26:04It's going to come crashing over in a good way.
- 26:07That sounds terrifying.
- 26:08There's a few other big stories happening that we wanted to touch on.
- 26:10But let's have a little break, I think.
- 26:12Yeah.
- 26:12Let's just take a quick breath.
- 26:15Take a moment.
- 26:17So coming up after the break, we will be diving into two companies in the AI space with announcements.
- 26:25Yeah, quite big ones, actually.
- 26:27Massive.
- 26:27Very big.
- 26:28Large.
- 26:28Huge.
- 26:29Not the announcement, but the size.
- 26:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:32You get the point.
- 26:32But first, we've got a quick word from today's sponsor.
- 26:35A recent study, Mindful Money Did, found that 50% of New Zealand investors are worried about greenwashing.
- 26:40And honestly, I get it.
- 26:42It's really hard to know what to trust these days.
- 26:44And that's why we've partnered with Pathfinder KiwiSaver Plan, because they make ethical investing understandable and accessible.
- 26:50Pathfinder being ethical means avoiding some profitable companies.
- 26:54So for example, Amazon, IBM, Tesla, and instead investing in a diverse mix that aligns with their ethical investment policy and aims to grow wealth over time for their members.
- 27:03So you can invest in the Pathfinder KiwiSaver Plan and they'll do all the difficult thinking for you about whether a company is ethical or not based on their policy.
- 27:10Pathfinder Asset Management Limited is the issuer of the Pathfinder KiwiSaver Plan.
- 27:14A product disclosure statement is available at pathfinder.kiwi.
- 27:17NVIDIA, AMD, what's going on?
- 27:19It's Navidia.
- 27:20Oh, no, it's not.
- 27:21No, isn't it?
- 27:21I know.
- 27:22Just, just.
- 27:25Because I was, when I was writing this yesterday, I was like, NVIDIA.
- 27:28NVIDIA.
- 27:29For anyone that's listened to this podcast for a while, Vic has spent the last three years saying NVIDIA.
- 27:34Yeah.
- 27:35And it's not the right pronunciation, but we've just.
- 27:37I mean, if you're going to spell out a word like you do when you're five years old, NVIDIA.
- 27:42NVIDIA.
- 27:43I'm confused now.
- 27:44I've forgotten which one it is.
- 27:45It's not Navidia.
- 27:46It's NVIDIA.
- 27:47NVIDIA, yes.
- 27:48They just wrote the biggest check in US corporate history and it was made out to themselves.
- 27:55They bought their own stock.
- 27:56This is just such a good story.
- 27:58And I love that I understand what this means.
- 28:01When a company is public, they have shares.
- 28:04The money only really goes into that business when they first go public, when they IPO.
- 28:09It's not that common for a business to go and buy its own shares.
- 28:13I know companies do, but it is always quite a big deal when they do it because they're basically buying something back at a higher price.
- 28:22generally right so a stock market is just a whole lot of people buying and selling shares and they think that they've got it wrong and they're undervaluing their business oh so they actually like we're getting this at a bar we're getting that well you buy something because you think it's going to go up in value so they're like the value of our shares right now is not reflective of how business is performing we're going to show you we're going to buy our own shares and so that's why it's such a green flag because it's like you could spend money on investing in other companies and launching new products and and
- 28:50Anything, really, if you've got cash and you've got profit, but you're deciding to buy your own shares because that's what you think you're going to get the best return on.
- 28:59So when a company does that, as an investor, I go, green flag, green flag, green flag.
- 29:03Yeah, wow.
- 29:05This is quite exciting.
- 29:06So they have done the biggest share buyback in history, $150 billion US dollars.
- 29:14That is so much money.
- 29:16$150 billion.
- 29:17Like, I feel like we've just become immune to, like, trillions.
- 29:20I know.
- 29:21I don't even know what that means anymore.
- 29:23If we roll back the tapes, I reckon we're like, it's reached a billion dollars.
- 29:27And we'd be like, woohoo.
- 29:28You know, whereas now we're like, $150 billion.
- 29:30Anyway, the whole company...
- 29:32was worth $150 billion back in 2020.
- 29:35So it's buying its entire self back in 2020.
- 29:39So it was only six years ago.
- 29:40The whole business was $150 billion.
- 29:42Now it's doing a sheer buyback of that much.
- 29:43The context you put on, very helpful.
- 29:45Okay, good.
- 29:46Also in 2020, it was super valuable.
- 29:48It wasn't as though it wasn't a valuable business.
- 29:50I know, yeah.
- 29:51I felt at the time I'd missed it.
- 29:53And $150 billion is bigger than the entire value of about 80% of the companies in the S&P 500.
- 29:59You're joking.
- 30:00Mm-hmm.
- 30:02have so much cash?
- 30:03Why do they have so much money to be able to spend that much on themselves?
- 30:06AI, baby.
- 30:07But that feels like an insane amount of money to have as cash reserves to be able to spend.
- 30:11But if you think of all the deals that NVIDIA's done, all the investments they've made, they literally, I feel like, cannot spend money on the internet.
- 30:21Quick enough.
- 30:21Like when you see that they've spent $150 billion on basically buying themselves.
- 30:26Also, that's over, that's between now and like 2028.
- 30:29So they don't do it all of rights.
- 30:31Because then the sheer price would just go, sure.
- 30:33Isn't that a good thing though?
- 30:34Well, not if you're buying all the way up.
- 30:36Do you know what I mean?
- 30:37Like they'll be buying...
- 30:40Like, share prices kind of go like this.
- 30:42If you're not looking, look at the screen.
- 30:43We're doing zigzags.
- 30:45Go like this.
- 30:45So they want to keep buying at the bottom, you know, and it might go up and then they'll buy when it comes back down.
- 30:49You know, if they're buying all the way up, the return gets less and less.
- 30:53But wouldn't you think, though, that if they just went all in now, they would get everything way cheaper?
- 30:58Because if they announced they're going to pour $150 billion into buying themselves, all of us are going to pack in and buy.
- 31:04So the share price is going to naturally go up anyway?
- 31:06Yeah.
- 31:06Not necessarily.
- 31:07Like some companies get it wrong, you know.
- 31:09Like there's only a certain number of shares for sale per day.
- 31:14So if you went all in and were like, I'm going to buy $150 billion, you know, in a day or a week, you would move the share price massively.
- 31:22And then it's artificially inflated.
- 31:24And then you'd have a whole lot of people selling.
- 31:26Right.
- 31:26And then it would come back down.
- 31:27And then you've bought at the top.
- 31:28You know, like you've got to be strategic about it.
- 31:30Like part of it is you have to – a company has to disclose.
- 31:34Like if I was a company, I wouldn't disclose that.
- 31:35I wouldn't be disclosing that I've got $150 billion.
- 31:38That's what I mean.
- 31:39But you have to.
- 31:40Like legally.
- 31:41But that's why they're like, it's over two years.
- 31:43But for me as an investor, I'm like, that's a good support.
- 31:47Because I know whenever the share price might come down a bit.
- 31:50They're going to be buying anyway.
- 31:51They're going to be buying.
- 31:51It's like a tidal wave.
- 31:52No.
- 31:54A rising tide lifts all boats.
- 31:55You know, it's like...
- 31:57They probably will put more in when it goes down.
- 31:59Yeah.
- 31:59Because they'll be like, perfect.
- 32:00We can get cheaper amounts.
- 32:01Yeah.
- 32:02You know?
- 32:03So NVIDIA spits off $35 billion a quarter of cash.
- 32:09So it has $35 billion a quarter to spend on what...
- 32:13When you say spits out cash, is that revenue...
- 32:18Minus expenses.
- 32:19So that's their profit.
- 32:21Yeah, cash, but yes.
- 32:23But it is after they've paid their expenses.
- 32:25Yes, yep.
- 32:26God, that's a lot.
- 32:26Yeah, I know.
- 32:28So imagine sitting there.
- 32:29So that's kind of their net profit is $35 billion.
- 32:32Well, you still want to keep some profit because, well, cash and profit, there's accounting...
- 32:38differences but essentially once they've paid for the stuff they have to pay for like staff yeah all of the things that power the business it's around 35 billion that it's spitting off yes yeah that's crazy 385 million every day we'll have some imagine you could just give a million to anyone the whole planet everyone could have a million you have a million you have a million
- 33:02But as investors, I'd be like, sorry, where's the return on that million, please?
- 33:05I want a return on that million.
- 33:06That's amazing.
- 33:07Imagine being the person, well, that's the CEO's job, right?
- 33:10But like $385 billion a day.
- 33:12I wouldn't be able to spend that much.
- 33:14That's a lot of money.
- 33:15I know.
- 33:15You'd be busy, busy.
- 33:17But this is what I mean.
- 33:17So $150 billion, massive when we look at it in the scheme of things.
- 33:21But for NVIDIA, not really.
- 33:25And that's why they've been investing in all these other companies, their customers, to try and secure revenue.
- 33:32And this is why everyone's getting a bit panicky about the AI space, because they're like, oh my god, they've just got their tentacles and everything.
- 33:38So if for whatever the demand that they're expecting does not come through, this whole thing falls over.
- 33:44Right.
- 33:44But yes, share buyback is...
- 33:46The greenest flag of all times.
- 33:47Greenest flag of all times.
- 33:49And the reason they're buying their shares is profits are exploding, but the share price this year has not kept up.
- 33:55So that's why they're like, hang on a second.
- 33:57Why is nobody buying our shares when our profits are going up and up and up?
- 34:01We think we're undervalued, so that's why we're buying our own shares.
- 34:04Does that make sense?
- 34:05Yes.
- 34:06So its share price is up about 20% this year.
- 34:08AMD, which we're going to get to in a second, its closest rival, has tripled this year.
- 34:14So it's going, hang on a second.
- 34:15Why are you buying this company's shares over here?
- 34:17Our profits have gone up and our share price hasn't.
- 34:21We're going to buy our own shares then if you want.
- 34:24So bitchy.
- 34:24I know.
- 34:27It's kind of a...
- 34:29BDE move, you know?
- 34:30It's huge.
- 34:30Yeah.
- 34:31Also, I feel like NVIDIA had this real, like, lull.
- 34:34Everyone thought it was overvalued.
- 34:35Everyone kind of got sick of it just a couple of years ago.
- 34:37And now it's sort of making its way back into headlines.
- 34:40Yes.
- 34:40You know, like, we didn't talk about it for a long time.
- 34:42So AMD, this is the closest rival to NVIDIA.
- 34:46Much, much, much smaller.
- 34:47And it has just crossed, I'm going to say much, much, much smaller.
- 34:51It's just, last week, become a trillion-dollar company.
- 34:55Yeah.
- 34:56So it is the 14th US company to now be valued over a trillion dollars.
- 35:01I thought there's only two or three.
- 35:02That's a lot.
- 35:03Yeah.
- 35:0414.
- 35:04Changes weekly, babe.
- 35:05You know?
- 35:06Wow.
- 35:07Yeah.
- 35:08They're crossing the T-line a lot.
- 35:10Yes.
- 35:10No, there is a lot of companies now in the trillion.
- 35:13Wow.
- 35:13Wow.
- 35:14I remember we were talking about Apple or something not that long ago.
- 35:16We're like, oh my gosh, there's a trillion dollar club.
- 35:18And then it's like, then it's Tesla.
- 35:20Then it's now it's Broadcom.
- 35:21And then it's like NVIDIA and AMD and Microsoft.
- 35:25Trillions the new billion.
- 35:27Really.
- 35:27Totally.
- 35:28Yeah.
- 35:28Its rise has been crazy.
- 35:31So crazy.
- 35:34It has a female CEO.
- 35:35Can we just, this is in the fund, right?
- 35:37We invested in AMD.
- 35:38Yeah.
- 35:38How exciting.
- 35:39It's tripled in this year, did you say?
- 35:41Yeah.
- 35:41We haven't had the fund for a year, but yeah.
- 35:43If only.
- 35:44It's this month.
- 35:45Has it been going well this month?
- 35:46Wait, it's a fund update.
- 35:47Oh, yes, yes, yes.
- 35:48Yes.
- 35:48On the edge of your seats, everyone.
- 35:50Yeah.
- 35:51But you're right.
- 35:51It's one of the largest positions in the fund.
- 35:53How exciting.
- 35:54Okay, tell us more.
- 35:54And it's about 30% this month.
- 35:56I can just tell it was a slug.
- 35:58She's like looking at me like, yeah, it's up to 30%.
- 36:00I'm like, get it, girl.
- 36:02So Lisa is actually Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA's cousin.
- 36:08That's right.
- 36:09The related, yeah.
- 36:10So she became CEO in 2014 and AMD was worth $2.5 billion.
- 36:16It is now worth $1 trillion.
- 36:19In the space of 12 years.
- 36:22I mean, that kind of seems like a long time.
- 36:24I'm honestly just the numbers are blurring at this point.
- 36:26So how about this?
- 36:27If you had invested $1,000 in AMD in 2014 when Lisa Su became CEO.
- 36:32How much?
- 36:33$1,000.
- 36:33$1,000.
- 36:33You'd have $185,000 to do.
- 36:34Actually, I put in $1,000 and that's gone to $185,000.
- 36:37From doing nothing.
- 36:37Just that $1,000 that left it.
- 36:38Yeah.
- 36:38Whoa.
- 36:38Whoa.
- 36:45Who is she?
- 36:46You could take a year off and have a sweet time.
- 36:48You could have 10 years off.
- 36:49Yeah.
- 36:50That's insane.
- 36:51Oh, no, not 10 years.
- 36:51Sorry, that's quite extreme.
- 36:52Yeah, right.
- 36:53You've been living in 10.
- 36:55But what does this mean for NVIDIA?
- 36:57Because NVIDIA has been the poster child of AI for so long.
- 37:00And I think it just goes to show that the competition is real.
- 37:03I think competition's good.
- 37:04Having more than one, it kind of freaks me out when there's only one.
- 37:07The control being so concentrated.
- 37:09Also, I think competition creates innovation.
- 37:12Totally.
- 37:12Totally.
- 37:12If you're the only one, you're not incentivized to do better.
- 37:16But if you've got someone else that's in your corner, you want to create the best product, have the best business, like everything is... 100%.
- 37:24It's like Nike.
- 37:25Their share price is down 75% in the last five years.
- 37:28Why is it down so much?
- 37:30Because of competition.
- 37:30They haven't...
- 37:31They're at the top.
- 37:32They haven't been innovating.
- 37:33They haven't been... Look at this.
- 37:35Oh, wow.
- 37:36Yeah.
- 37:36It's absolutely tanking.
- 37:37How long is that over?
- 37:38Five years.
- 37:39Wow.
- 37:40It's like it's fallen out of the S&P 100 index.
- 37:44So that's the top 100 companies.
- 37:45We always talk about the S&P 500, but the S&P 100 is the top 100 companies.
- 37:50And yeah, it's just really, really struggling.
- 37:53And I think this is a great example of what you were saying in terms of if you're at the top.
- 37:57There's only one way to go.
- 37:58Yeah.
- 37:59And just back to AMD.
- 38:00There is a prediction that's going to be $3 trillion by 2030.
- 38:04Who predicted that?
- 38:05The Motley Fool.
- 38:07I know the Motley Fool.
- 38:08Yeah.
- 38:09Really?
- 38:09Three trillion?
- 38:10Three trillion.
- 38:10By when?
- 38:112030.
- 38:12So in four years.
- 38:14Is that...
- 38:14I mean, I feel like it'd be quicker.
- 38:15I don't even know what that means anymore.
- 38:16I feel like it'd be quicker.
- 38:18We see companies like...
- 38:20Yeah.
- 38:20I know.
- 38:21My hat's on it.
- 38:22Getting there much quicker.
- 38:23Wear our hat's on it.
- 38:24Our.
- 38:24And whoever's in the funds, hat's on it.
- 38:26Yeah.
- 38:27If you want to know more details about the fund, by the way, we'll put it in the podcast show notes.
- 38:30Vic, one thing I would like to go into detail on, and maybe it's not a now conversation, is AI, I saw a few headlines being potentially swallowed up or bought by government.
- 38:42Yeah.
- 38:42And I want to talk about that in more detail, not now.
- 38:45But it was basically the headline was saying something along the lines of, like, who's going to take the risk of AI on?
- 38:52And what would happen if they weren't private companies?
- 38:57You don't think that would ever happen?
- 38:59They'd have to buy NVIDIA.
- 39:01That's what I mean.
- 39:02They don't have the money.
- 39:03The government's in $40 trillion of debt.
- 39:06I know.
- 39:06And that's why we talked about the other day about bond yields being so high.
- 39:10What I think is more going to happen is there'll be restrictions around and like regulatory bodies and like all of that.
- 39:16And there'll be guardrails and there'll be set up like committees and all of that will be set up.
- 39:21Like we've seen with social media companies, like all of the, you know, like there'll be
- 39:25If it gets too far one way.
- 39:25There'll have to be controls put in place, no doubt.
- 39:31But you can't buy the companies.
- 39:33You can't buy Anthropoc.
- 39:34It's about to IPO for $2 trillion, you know.
- 39:39But people are getting nervous, definitely.
- 39:40Because there's just so much about all these founders coming out saying they're building the Frankenstein or they've, you know...
- 39:46that this is going to ruin humanity.
- 39:48How can that be happening at the same time?
- 39:50But then also I'm like, are you doing that because you want to have more regulation to stop competitors reaching, you know, like what is the intention?
- 39:57Because if you really were building something that's going to like wipe out humanity, surely you stop doing that.
- 40:02Or are you just a megalomaniac and you can't handle, I don't know.
- 40:05Well, it's all about consciousness.
- 40:07And if AI ends up developing conscience, I read this article in The Economist.
- 40:11It was quite fascinating.
- 40:13So if I murder you, like there's repercussions.
- 40:16And because you are a conscious living human, but how does that, what is the difference between me killing an AI bot and killing you?
- 40:25You're joking.
- 40:26You know, it's like, at what point does that become human?
- 40:28And it's kind of like talking about, like, fetuses, you know?
- 40:31Like, at what point are they a human being?
- 40:33Like, it's, yeah, so it's like, where does it line?
- 40:35Can you please send that to me?
- 40:36I want to read it.
- 40:37It's so fascinating.
- 40:38There was one man who, like, fell in love with, kind of like her, that movie.
- 40:42Yeah.
- 40:42Yeah.
- 40:43And he was asking his AI bot certain questions that they believed that the AI bot had a conscience.
- 40:49And then...
- 40:52He was like, you cannot murder.
- 40:53I was like, this whole thing.
- 40:54It was quite scary.
- 40:55It was like the closest article I've read to being like, oh gosh, that's what the world's going to look like.
- 40:59So weird when stuff like that happens.
- 41:01I also think there is fear.
- 41:02There's fear in anything that is new and unknown.
- 41:07Yes.
- 41:08I mean, we started this podcast with what's going on in the world, and there is definitely elements.
- 41:13She started this podcast with my engagement.
- 41:14Oh, sorry.
- 41:15Yeah.
- 41:15Sorry.
- 41:16But yes.
- 41:16You know, it does scare me that...
- 41:19Yes, there's people in charge of very powerful businesses that might make decisions with regard to AI that humanity doesn't agree with.
- 41:29Then even the other day someone was saying they know someone who worked for Elon Musk and his baby had been born and he'd left a launch of a rocket ship or something.
- 41:38Gone to be at the birth.
- 41:41And then Elon had called him.
- 41:43Elon, that sounds weird.
- 41:44And he was like, what are you doing?
- 41:44I was like, what are you doing?
- 41:45Well, like, they basically fired him for going to the birth of his kid.
- 41:49It's just like you kind of don't really want to have the collective humanity, consciousness, well-being of the planet in the hands of someone that does not value similar values to – That's why we need more women in power.
- 42:06Yes.
- 42:08So weird.
- 42:08We keep finding this strange theme.
- 42:10Yeah.
- 42:11Woman in power.
- 42:12Weird.
- 42:13New concept?
- 42:14New concept.
- 42:15Apologies that we don't have time for a community question at the end of this episode.
- 42:19I selfishly took up probably 20 minutes of this episode.
- 42:21Hey, that's fine.
- 42:22It's not like you're going to do that every week.
- 42:24True.
- 42:24Although I don't know.
- 42:26Oh, no, no, no.
- 42:26Maybe we'll talk about my breakup next week.
- 42:28Oh, she did it.
- 42:30Oh, God.
- 42:30The timing could not have been worse.
- 42:33I felt so bad about it.
- 42:35I honestly was like, I don't know how to tell Vic because it's the worst timing ever.
- 42:39So you know what?
- 42:40No, I would hate for you to feel bad.
- 42:42No, when you text me and I was so happy and then my now ex...
- 42:48Lol.
- 42:49Flower man?
- 42:50Is it lol?
- 42:51Not lol.
- 42:51I'm just feeling good.
- 42:53Anyway, I text him and I was like, you'll never guess.
- 42:58How amazing.
- 42:59So I've got engaged.
- 43:00And he was like, holy fucking shit.
- 43:02And I was like...
- 43:05This was the exact words.
- 43:06Anyway, he called me and he was like, how does it make you feel?
- 43:08And I was like, to be honest, I would have probably found it a lot harder if we were still together.
- 43:14Because I would have been like...
- 43:17You know, like there would have just been different emotions.
- 43:18Then now I was like, I'm so happy for her.
- 43:21And I am so glad the decision I've made.
- 43:24And like, yeah.
- 43:26So he was like, no, I get that.
- 43:27So I hate that you, I knew you would think that as well.
- 43:31I was just like, I don't.
- 43:31It is the worst timing though.
- 43:33It's just like, that's literally the same.
- 43:34Worst timing, but it's like, how is this happening?
- 43:36It's like polar opposites.
- 43:37Yeah, I know.
- 43:37Because I literally, I was thinking that.
- 43:39That's why I was like, I think maybe I just will keep it to myself for a bit.
- 43:42Because I didn't want to tell you.
- 43:44But do you know, like, also how quickly it happened for you?
- 43:46I'm like, that gives me hope.
- 43:49Do you know what I mean?
- 43:49Like, that sounds really cheesy.
- 43:51But do you know what I mean?
- 43:52Like, so much can change in a year.
- 43:54And I have had, like, friends call me over heartbreak for, like, you know, they're in the shower, like, distraught.
- 44:00And all you want to say to them is, like, it'll get better.
- 44:03And then those friends have met the love of their lives and the husbands of their children within a year.
- 44:08You know?
- 44:08And it's just, like, remembering that is, like...
- 44:11And also...
- 44:11Sorry, I didn't mean to take over your podcast.
- 44:13No, no, no.
- 44:14Take over your engagement podcast.
- 44:15I mean, I think it's probably good.
- 44:16May as well just spit it all out.
- 44:17It's kind of like how I spat up my actual engagement to my family.
- 44:19Just spit it all out.
- 44:20Also, like, just at the end?
- 44:21Oh, yeah.
- 44:22And, yeah, sorry.
- 44:22Good.
- 44:23It's quite good because you don't have to talk about it because we've run out of time.
- 44:25Yeah.
- 44:25But, yeah, I think it was just so much better to be... Like, life is hard.
- 44:30Like, so many things happen that are difficult and stressful and sad.
- 44:33And your relationship shouldn't feel like that.
- 44:36I'm also just like, I've got so much going on.
- 44:38Moving back to New Zealand, I'm like, so much to be excited about.
- 44:40She's like, must eliminate one thing from my life.
- 44:43She don't have time for all of that.
- 44:44No, but it's like, I'm excited to go back, see friends and family, like knuckled down with the care of investments.
- 44:49It's going to be summer there.
- 44:50You know, like I'm just like, Pussy vibes, Pussy vibes.
- 44:53Yeah, yeah.
- 44:54Little claps.
- 44:54We're so late to the clap game.
- 44:55It's so embarrassing.
- 44:56It's like, I know.
- 44:57I started doing it now and I'm just, I'm so embarrassed.
- 44:59It's kind of work sometimes.
- 45:01It's so fun.
- 45:01It's less effort.
- 45:02It's also condescending a bit, right?
- 45:04It is a bit of a gauge.
