- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm your host, Colleen wat and today we have very
- 0:05Speaker 1: special guest, comedian actor Nabed Green in the building.
- 0:11Speaker 2: How you doing.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to
- 0:15Speaker 1: come hang with me.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Oh man, for sure. Yes.
- 0:17Speaker 1: So what are you gonna have us eating today?
- 0:19Speaker 3: Uh?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Chicken tacos.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Chicken tacos? Okay, pretty simple.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It sounds simple, but not the way I make it out.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Is it gonna be good? Oh? Definitely that okay?
- 0:31Speaker 1: Okay, what are the ingredients for your chicken tacos?
- 0:33Speaker 2: I got a few dice onions, some Tyson grilled chicken breast,
- 0:40Speaker 2: We got some grape value pepper jack cheese. Then we
- 0:42Speaker 2: sprinkle on top of that, and we got.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Some kyeso okay, and then you have salt and sor.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's your discretion' I didn't have that.
- 0:51Speaker 1: But so we're gonna have kyso in the tacos.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah, we just sprinkled.
- 0:58Speaker 4: You got you got my interest problem.
- 1:22Speaker 1: By the way, when you said a few onions, you
- 1:25Speaker 1: was real serious. It's like a little splash.
- 1:28Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, cause you don't want to overdo it.
- 1:31Speaker 2: You don't want to overdo it. You don't want to
- 1:33Speaker 2: take away that flavor of the chicken. So that's why
- 1:36Speaker 2: I always do that.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And then I heard you ask earlier if the butter
- 1:40Speaker 1: was salted. Is there a reason?
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so I won't put that much uh season salt
- 1:45Speaker 2: on my uh chicken cause you don't want to overdo
- 1:47Speaker 2: that as well. Yeah, I I know, I sound like
- 1:50Speaker 2: a real chef. I could have been one problem.
- 1:55Speaker 1: You're having with this. Yeah, okay, So take me back
- 1:58Speaker 1: to what was going on in the Chicken Chicken taco
- 2:02Speaker 1: air of brokeness.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Mainly, I think doing that chicken was a lot cheaper,
- 2:10Speaker 2: So if you want tacos, I think chicken was was cheaper,
- 2:14Speaker 2: and then you felt like it was being healthier because
- 2:16Speaker 2: it was going through that phase with beef and pork.
- 2:18Speaker 2: How we was kind of like trying to lay off
- 2:20Speaker 2: of it. And then plus I think taco Tuesday, like
- 2:26Speaker 2: people now, you know, feel like you only could eat
- 2:29Speaker 2: tacos on Tuesday, but tacos are good essential meal. Yeah.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So is this dish go back to being in your
- 2:38Speaker 1: home with your parents or is this college? Is this before?
- 2:41Speaker 2: It's a lot, it's a little both.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Take me there.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I think at home it was either like this, I
- 2:48Speaker 2: felt like this was like a gourmet meal. And plus
- 2:51Speaker 2: with these kind of chicken, With this kind of chicken,
- 2:54Speaker 2: you could do so much with it afreido, we can
- 2:57Speaker 2: do tacos. So it was like multi purpose. So anytime
- 3:01Speaker 2: I bought this chicken, I know it could last me
- 3:03Speaker 2: the week.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Now, did you did you buy the pre made ones?
- 3:06Speaker 2: Oh?
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, this is pre Oh you never did the raw?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Oh no, no, no, no, because that costs more.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It costs more for the raw.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah, because you're getting the chicken breast. Then you gotta
- 3:14Speaker 2: cut it this already, come cut. It's only so much
- 3:18Speaker 2: you could do in a in a dorm room as well.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And then at the house.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Okay, did you come from two parent household? Middle class?
- 3:25Speaker 2: Rich for well, two parents, but we was a little
- 3:29Speaker 2: under middle class okay, yeah, but we was to two parent.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Okay, nice. And then you went to college for a year?
- 3:36Speaker 1: Four years? Oh finally a college dropout. I've been, man,
- 3:42Speaker 1: the last couple of interviews, everyone's so educated.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, man, and that's just a waste of time. And
- 3:46Speaker 2: guess what they're doing same place as me. So that
- 3:50Speaker 2: just going to show you. But nah, real, real talk.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Like I went to college just because my parents were
- 3:55Speaker 2: telling me, like, man, you know, go to college. We
- 3:57Speaker 2: felt like that was the right thing to do. But
- 3:59Speaker 2: once I got to college, I was like, man, after
- 4:01Speaker 2: I started dropping them first couple classes and I was
- 4:06Speaker 2: doing work study and got that first refund check, I'm like,
- 4:10Speaker 2: I'm out of here.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You got to check from school.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Then you dipped. No, no, no, I ain't gonna lie.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I got the sick one too. So the you know
- 4:20Speaker 2: how they do it in disbursements. I think I said
- 4:22Speaker 2: it right. So when they said that, I was like.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Nah, okay, so you drop out of school. What are
- 4:27Speaker 1: your parents in and what were you even going to
- 4:29Speaker 1: school for besides appeasing them business.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I had to think about it because I didn't man,
- 4:36Speaker 2: I didn't care what I just you know, anytime somebody
- 4:39Speaker 2: just go to school for business, they don't know what
- 4:41Speaker 2: they're doing, It's like, why what point?
- 4:45Speaker 1: Well, we want money at the end of this, so
- 4:47Speaker 1: we'll just choose the option business.
- 4:49Speaker 2: But I went there and I was taking up certain
- 4:53Speaker 2: certain classes, and then after I would get out of class,
- 4:56Speaker 2: I would like be joking in the be joking outside
- 5:01Speaker 2: by the calf and stuff like that. And this one
- 5:03Speaker 2: girl had told me. She was like, man, she was like,
- 5:06Speaker 2: you really got talent. So her saying that, I was like,
- 5:09Speaker 2: what you mean? She was like you could be like
- 5:10Speaker 2: an entertainer or something like that. And when she said that,
- 5:13Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, I ain't coming back.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So all iok.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Was one girl and I don't even know her name.
- 5:18Speaker 2: She probably don't even know she she changed the trajectory
- 5:21Speaker 2: of my life. Wow, well not trajectory, cause I was
- 5:25Speaker 2: gonna do it anyway, but I did it faster.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Okay fast.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 1: She was like, I'm not even gonna waste some man.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I didn't even waste the time because when when I
- 5:32Speaker 2: go back, so you know, in the summer, they started
- 5:36Speaker 2: sending you information about dorms and stuff like that. So
- 5:40Speaker 2: my mom was like, uh uh you didn't give me
- 5:43Speaker 2: the paper to fill out your dorm information. I was like, oh, yeah,
- 5:47Speaker 2: uh I'm not going back. She's like, when you was
- 5:49Speaker 2: gonna tell me? I was like, uh, I been thinking
- 5:52Speaker 2: about it. So, you know, saying that to your mom
- 5:54Speaker 2: and stuff like that, and she you gotta think just
- 5:57Speaker 2: a year before you done. Just had a a high
- 5:59Speaker 2: school graduation party. Everybody bringing you all this stuff to
- 6:02Speaker 2: go to college with. But they don't realize when you
- 6:04Speaker 2: get to college that money goes so fast and it's
- 6:06Speaker 2: before cash up. So like I had aunties and stuff
- 6:11Speaker 2: like that, cause you know, a lot of my family
- 6:13Speaker 2: they never went to college. So they would give you
- 6:15Speaker 2: twenty dollars. They felt like, hey, man, that twenty dollars
- 6:18Speaker 2: old last you want to go somewhere, talking about don't
- 6:22Speaker 2: spend it all that man, I can't spend nowhere. Well nah,
- 6:26Speaker 2: So it was just that and there it just felt
- 6:28Speaker 2: like you being a burden asking for money. You know
- 6:30Speaker 2: why you down there cause you still at home. It
- 6:34Speaker 2: was different. You could go out and hang, but in
- 6:36Speaker 2: college you felt like you were by yourself.
- 6:37Speaker 1: You feel me and then you don't have a lot
- 6:40Speaker 1: of money, right, So I didn't go back. So you
- 6:42Speaker 1: but you went back to mama's house.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I ain't had no choice. I ain't have a plan.
- 6:47Speaker 1: So what you say when you're like, hey, epiphany, change,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'm not doing this? Did she ask the good old
- 6:52Speaker 1: what do you? What's your plan?
- 6:54Speaker 2: Uh? So to be transparent with you. When I was
- 6:58Speaker 2: in high school, I had did this show called Your Mama.
- 7:01Speaker 2: It was an MTV Your Mama Show, and I had
- 7:04Speaker 2: one a couple episodes on that. So after I won,
- 7:07Speaker 2: I knew then like I could do it. I wanted
- 7:09Speaker 2: to be an entertainer, but it was like I'm thinking
- 7:12Speaker 2: somebody was gonna call from that, but no, that didn't happen.
- 7:15Speaker 2: So I like, boom. So now I'm in college. So
- 7:17Speaker 2: when I come back, I'm like, I'm gonna work this
- 7:19Speaker 2: job and then I'm gonna get me some money and
- 7:21Speaker 2: go to LA. That was my whole plan. Okay, So
- 7:25Speaker 2: I'm working at the Congress Center stacking my little money.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And when I say little, it was little because once
- 7:31Speaker 2: you go to LA, you see boys saying, man, that
- 7:36Speaker 2: money was going so quick. Like the money I saved up.
- 7:39Speaker 2: It was to share a room. I said, bruh. And
- 7:44Speaker 2: you know how when your parents tell you something like
- 7:47Speaker 2: you think life ease, I'm like, man, she don't know. Man.
- 7:50Speaker 2: My mama knew, like my dad, he never really tried
- 7:52Speaker 2: to give me the el because like I think, and
- 7:54Speaker 2: him thinking like, sometimes you got to just find out
- 7:56Speaker 2: by yourself. And I found out. So I stayed out
- 7:59Speaker 2: there probably.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Like four five months, and what happened.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Ship out right back in Atlanta.
- 8:05Speaker 1: No way. Yeah, did you so you were did you
- 8:08Speaker 1: at least do the shared room thing?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Okay, so that ran up? And what did you do
- 8:14Speaker 1: while you were in LA for that short stint?
- 8:16Speaker 2: I met. I met a couple of people I had knew. Uh,
- 8:20Speaker 2: this guy Brendan Lewis, I knew him from he had
- 8:23Speaker 2: did to Your Mama show as well. And I met
- 8:26Speaker 2: a a few comedians while I was out there. But
- 8:28Speaker 2: it was like I didn't understand in LA, like you
- 8:31Speaker 2: had to have credits or something to get on stage.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Well, yeah, l A is weird because they like make
- 8:36Speaker 1: their comedians literally work from the door up.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and I saw that. So sometimes when I first
- 8:43Speaker 2: moved out there, if you're familiar with the area, I
- 8:45Speaker 2: was staying out there in Palmdale.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Oh that's far you was on another island.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Listen shared room, No, I have my own room. Listen.
- 8:55Speaker 2: So when I'm in Palmdale, I'm running the metro link
- 8:58Speaker 2: to the city that I didn't.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Even know they had a metro linoponent. I've been there twice.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Whatever the big train is. Yeah, yeah, it come down
- 9:06Speaker 2: to the city. So when I how long is that right?
- 9:09Speaker 1: Like two hours? No?
- 9:10Speaker 2: No, it's not even alone. Forty five minutes. Okay, yeah,
- 9:13Speaker 2: well it's not that far.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So when I to the city to Hollywood to Lay okay.
- 9:19Speaker 2: So when I get down there, I could be off
- 9:22Speaker 2: ten or fifteen minutes, but it's not that long ago.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Okay, our max I would say an hour.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Okay, good, I said fifteen minutes. So look, I get
- 9:30Speaker 2: there me not knowing how the train works. It stopped
- 9:35Speaker 2: running at nine. The comedy clubs don't start to about
- 9:40Speaker 2: eight thirty nine. Yeah, so and then I would have
- 9:43Speaker 2: to go to the train station and I gotta wait
- 9:45Speaker 2: till it start running in the morning at five. So
- 9:47Speaker 2: I was like, nah, this ain't gonna work. I have
- 9:49Speaker 2: to move closer to the city. That's when I found
- 9:53Speaker 2: out about the U c LA. Like, now, this was
- 9:56Speaker 2: a good apartment. I'm like this when Craigs listen, just
- 9:59Speaker 2: where you find all your cribs? This shit. So I'm
- 10:02Speaker 2: on crazy and I'm like, but it's too good to
- 10:03Speaker 2: be true because it was what was it that a
- 10:07Speaker 2: shared room. I'm seeing the price and I'm seeing the area.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I was like, oh, man, I don't find my lik man,
- 10:14Speaker 2: I'm sharing the room. So I was like well, I'm man,
- 10:17Speaker 2: may he opened the door and somebody laying in their bed.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm like, man, what it is? So I ain't even
- 10:23Speaker 2: have a I had an air mattress.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Oh you actually went through the shared room.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I ain't had no choice. I had like I had.
- 10:31Speaker 1: The game all right, Oh before you even.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Sawry man, you know how bad you gotta be doing
- 10:36Speaker 2: again with a deposit on the shared room?
- 10:39Speaker 1: Okay, So then what happens?
- 10:42Speaker 2: So I stayed. I stayed a couple of months doing that,
- 10:46Speaker 2: and then that's when did you.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Get into any of the clubs?
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah? I had got in a couple of clubs, and
- 10:52Speaker 2: it mainly was like networking, but to a certain degree
- 10:56Speaker 2: what you mean, cause it's like, hey, yeah, I'm out
- 10:59Speaker 2: here to do this and do that, Like okay, they
- 11:02Speaker 2: don't really care cause you gotta think it's so many
- 11:05Speaker 2: people out there with the same story as you, as
- 11:07Speaker 2: you rather so then I found out I had a
- 11:11Speaker 2: child on the way, So that was my rules. I
- 11:15Speaker 2: have to go back now, cause to be honest with you,
- 11:17Speaker 2: I felt like this is what I was supposed to do.
- 11:21Speaker 2: You know, you hear it so much like it's so cliche,
- 11:24Speaker 2: like you gotta struggle to make it. So I feel
- 11:26Speaker 2: like I'm just living in my truth. Like I'm hearing
- 11:28Speaker 2: so many people that said they slept, slapping, they cars
- 11:31Speaker 2: and stuff like that. So I'm like, yeah, I was
- 11:35Speaker 2: willing to do all that till I found out I
- 11:36Speaker 2: had a child, And I'm like, naw, you don't wanna
- 11:38Speaker 2: bring no child in you trying to chase your dream.
- 11:42Speaker 2: So that kind of side. I ain't gonna say it
- 11:44Speaker 2: sidetracked me, cause it helped me out so much. So
- 11:47Speaker 2: after that then I had came back to Georgia.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So you went back. Now did you end up having
- 11:52Speaker 1: to get a job? What was the plan after you
- 11:54Speaker 1: found out?
- 11:54Speaker 2: Man, I went back to that same job. I was
- 11:57Speaker 2: working at the Congress Center of Georgia Dome, and I
- 12:00Speaker 2: went back there cause it was it was like a
- 12:05Speaker 2: temporary job. Anyway, you work a certain amount of hours,
- 12:07Speaker 2: so they they they'll always let you come back long
- 12:10Speaker 2: as you left on good terms.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So you start doing the job. Are you packing up
- 12:14Speaker 1: with the idea on your dreams at this point?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Nah? I never gave up on my dreams though, I
- 12:19Speaker 2: never I just didn't know when or how it was
- 12:21Speaker 2: gonna take shape. Or form. But I was like, it's
- 12:25Speaker 2: s something gonna come from this, and like what it
- 12:27Speaker 2: I didn't know what it was gonna be at the time.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Are you living at your mom's or with your girl
- 12:32Speaker 1: at the.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Time or I was living with my uh my girl
- 12:35Speaker 2: at the time.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Okay, cool, Yeah, so you're raising this baby and it
- 12:39Speaker 1: I think it.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I would have rather been staying on my mom.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Cause, like you're hilarious.
- 12:44Speaker 2: No, I'm telling you truth. If you go home broke
- 12:47Speaker 2: to your mom, like it's sympathy, you go home broke
- 12:49Speaker 2: to your girl, that's a different type of you hear
- 12:53Speaker 2: her complain, Like you can hear your parents complain about
- 12:55Speaker 2: the beatings all days, like shit job, been doing that
- 12:58Speaker 2: since I was three. O. Man, you hear your girl
- 13:01Speaker 2: saying that sh making you feel bad? Like man, So
- 13:05Speaker 2: it was like that was different. So we thugged it out.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Wow. So are you guys still together?
- 13:14Speaker 2: No? Okay, this every story on any way you think?
- 13:20Speaker 1: Okay, okay, So you so you staying with her, You're
- 13:23Speaker 1: you're working at this this temporary job type place and
- 13:27Speaker 1: you're not actively pursuing your dreams or you're like praying
- 13:32Speaker 1: on a miracle.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yeah, at the time, I'm not even actively like pursuing
- 13:36Speaker 2: it because to be uh, all the way, we we
- 13:40Speaker 2: had actually had to move to Savannah. My girl she
- 13:43Speaker 2: was in the army.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Oh so her she was a benefits.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Yeah for them. Yeah, so she uh, she's down there
- 13:54Speaker 2: at Fort Stewart in Savannah. That's like three and a
- 13:57Speaker 2: half hours away from Atlanta. So like every weekend we
- 14:00Speaker 2: coming back. But you know, that's gas money and stuff
- 14:03Speaker 2: like that. So it was like on Sunday, Uptown would
- 14:06Speaker 2: have Sunday for comedy club, but it's only so much.
- 14:11Speaker 2: If you not around the scene and don't know nobody,
- 14:14Speaker 2: they don't really take you serious.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Okay, So that was that Backack, how'd you end up
- 14:20Speaker 1: in the yo mama situation? In high school?
- 14:24Speaker 2: So look a buddy at the school I was at,
- 14:29Speaker 2: he had he was talking about it, so he was
- 14:32Speaker 2: gonna do it. So he was like, just come down
- 14:34Speaker 2: here with me. So all of us were joking class.
- 14:38Speaker 2: We go down there to actually they had auditions at Uptown,
- 14:42Speaker 2: so we get on stage, were doing it, and then
- 14:44Speaker 2: after we left that was it. But I got a
- 14:47Speaker 2: call back.
- 14:47Speaker 1: He didn't I know, he was probably thinking like why
- 14:50Speaker 1: did I take him with me.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but or was yeah, I don't think he really
- 14:55Speaker 2: gave it, damn. Okay, yeah, it was just something to do.
- 14:59Speaker 2: So then they give me a call back. So the
- 15:04Speaker 2: first time that I leave to go because this when
- 15:08Speaker 2: you do like the free for all for the show
- 15:11Speaker 2: when they have you in the big circle. So they
- 15:15Speaker 2: had already told us like, you get paid regardless, so
- 15:18Speaker 2: I was like, I don't give it. Damn. Yeah. Of
- 15:21Speaker 2: course I know I'm gonna get some money from this,
- 15:23Speaker 2: but I didn't even know how entertainment worked. I'm thinking
- 15:25Speaker 2: they gonna hand me the money right out. So I
- 15:27Speaker 2: get down there end up winning. So they was like, yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 2: you come back next week and then we do like
- 15:34Speaker 2: the raid the house thing where they showed the different rooms.
- 15:37Speaker 2: That's how the show used to work. But they go
- 15:39Speaker 2: to your house. Well I wasn't even supposed to be
- 15:41Speaker 2: doing it, so I'm like, they can't come to my house.
- 15:43Speaker 2: So they was like, do we get permission? I was like, nah,
- 15:45Speaker 2: my mom she said no already and she don't even
- 15:49Speaker 2: know I'm doing the show, so boom. I lied about
- 15:56Speaker 2: everything till I brought this when I I got on
- 16:00Speaker 2: the last show, when I brought my dumb ass friends.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You got called by your mama.
- 16:05Speaker 2: No, my friends, they putting the wrong they putting they
- 16:08Speaker 2: real age down. So they were like, how's he eighteen
- 16:14Speaker 2: hanging on with all these sixteen year olds?
- 16:16Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 16:17Speaker 2: So they pulled me to the side of the one
- 16:20Speaker 2: of the consultants that like tell the truth. They were like,
- 16:22Speaker 2: how old are you? I was like seventeen and a half.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 16:28Speaker 2: You know how you put the a half under you
- 16:30Speaker 2: make him feel better? But nah. So after that they
- 16:32Speaker 2: had to get permission from my mom. So that's how
- 16:35Speaker 2: she found out I was even on the show. Oh snap,
- 16:37Speaker 2: I was the youngest one on the show.
- 16:39Speaker 1: But at least it led with hey, he already won, right.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Yeah, well my at first my dad was like, nah,
- 16:44Speaker 2: tell him bring his ass home. It was like, well
- 16:46Speaker 2: he already won up the three thousand and nine, well
- 16:49Speaker 2: he better win it. Like he was part of his
- 16:53Speaker 2: head then. But at first it was like cause I
- 16:55Speaker 2: had been I had skipped school to do it, cause
- 16:58Speaker 2: like they would shooting certain scenes during the daytime, I
- 17:01Speaker 2: would leave school like or not even go.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, okay, so you you got into some
- 17:07Speaker 1: kind of trouble even though you walked away with a check, right.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but then I didn't even know how it worked
- 17:12Speaker 2: the check. The check didn't even come to like two
- 17:15Speaker 2: months later. But I knew my money was coming, so
- 17:18Speaker 2: people would I tell somebody like, you know, my money
- 17:20Speaker 2: on the way. So by the time I got to check,
- 17:23Speaker 2: that shit was gone anyway. Okay, but no, but after
- 17:29Speaker 2: I did it, it made me see for myself after just
- 17:32Speaker 2: being on TV, you gotta think this before social media,
- 17:34Speaker 2: it's all. Wait, so this before social media. We had
- 17:37Speaker 2: Facebook and not in Facebook. We had my Space back then.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Uh but it's like when you was on TV and
- 17:43Speaker 2: people come back to school, man, they was tr like, man,
- 17:46Speaker 2: now we saw you on TV, like, so it was
- 17:48Speaker 2: different and I never wanted that feeling to go away. Yeah.
- 18:03Speaker 2: I think once we started doing social media skits and.
- 18:07Speaker 1: What what platforms are you using at that time.
- 18:09Speaker 2: That's when Instagram started coming around.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Okay, so did you do the vine error?
- 18:14Speaker 2: I missed the vine era. I caught the end of
- 18:16Speaker 2: the vine era and it was straight on Instagram. That's
- 18:19Speaker 2: when Instagram started making the videos. I mean, you can, yeah, but.
- 18:22Speaker 1: They were longer than Yeah, that's how them.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So then once Instagram started doing the videos, it was okay,
- 18:30Speaker 2: I'm just gonna do Instagram. So with that being said,
- 18:34Speaker 2: at the time, I'm still with my child's mother, so
- 18:39Speaker 2: you know, like of course, were starting to do more things,
- 18:43Speaker 2: and so she was like, you don't think you want
- 18:44Speaker 2: to get a job. So when she said that, it's like,
- 18:47Speaker 2: you know how you see the pressure of that, like
- 18:50Speaker 2: I do have to. I know I'm chasing my dream,
- 18:53Speaker 2: but I still gotta make sure my family is straight.
- 18:55Speaker 2: But when she said that, it's like, man, I'm putting
- 18:57Speaker 2: money into the house. I'm doing all the necessary like
- 19:01Speaker 2: I never work a job.
- 19:02Speaker 1: And when I said it, still you're still contributing, right, Yeah.
- 19:05Speaker 2: And when I said that, I realized then I met it.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I was like, I don't want to work. That's all
- 19:09Speaker 2: I want to do. So like you know how some
- 19:11Speaker 2: people like you. You meet people and they they have regrets, like, man,
- 19:16Speaker 2: I wish I would have did this so much. I
- 19:18Speaker 2: never want to do that. Like growing up, we try
- 19:21Speaker 2: to tell our kids you could do this and be that,
- 19:23Speaker 2: don't give up, but then you give up. Yeah, because
- 19:26Speaker 2: it's like that's what I would have been. I probably
- 19:28Speaker 2: would have been a I'm a great father, but I
- 19:30Speaker 2: would have been a superb father. But I would have
- 19:33Speaker 2: been bitter as hell.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Yeah, like you watching a lot of resentment.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Yeah, resent man, that's the better word for it.
- 19:40Speaker 1: And then you also end up resembling with your mate too.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:44Speaker 1: So so you decide, like, in this conversation with her,
- 19:47Speaker 1: that's it, I ain't never going to get a job
- 19:49Speaker 1: a kid.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Right, Okay. So with that being said.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And so at this point, you're also so how are
- 19:55Speaker 1: you supporting the family at that point where you're like,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I'm never getting a job because at the time she
- 20:00Speaker 1: you didn't have a job.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I was getting unemployment. Shout out unemployment. It
- 20:06Speaker 2: help it, don'll save my life a few times. So,
- 20:09Speaker 2: uh unemployment. And then I was getting the while she
- 20:14Speaker 2: was in the army, when we was in Savannah, I
- 20:16Speaker 2: had uh did the I end up doing it as well?
- 20:20Speaker 1: You joined the military, Get the freak out, no talking
- 20:24Speaker 1: about Yeah, did you did you make it through at
- 20:28Speaker 1: least a couple of years or probably right at that
- 20:31Speaker 1: Oh so you tell me, tell me did you get
- 20:34Speaker 1: kicked out the army or did you get what is
- 20:35Speaker 1: the honorable discharge? Or whatever they call it.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Nah, it was. It was man when I first got there.
- 20:40Speaker 2: So a lot of people don't know this. So like,
- 20:43Speaker 2: with that being said, when you go into a recruiter's office,
- 20:47Speaker 2: they gonna tell you everything you want to hear. So
- 20:50Speaker 2: I was like, man, my uh, my kid and my
- 20:53Speaker 2: baby mom they right here at Fort Stewart. He like,
- 20:55Speaker 2: oh yeah, yeah, you'll be right here with him. So
- 20:57Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, cool. He was like, are you got
- 21:00Speaker 2: to do is go through your training. I went through
- 21:02Speaker 2: the training. Man. They sent me to Korea. Man, when
- 21:07Speaker 2: I got the paper it said career, I could have
- 21:09Speaker 2: cried cause I'm like, now, it's like as a grown man,
- 21:13Speaker 2: I'm like, he lied to me. But I'm I'm thinking
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'm at twenty. I'm twenty at the time. I'm like,
- 21:17Speaker 2: he lied to me. And they're like who They were like,
- 21:20Speaker 2: I'm just sick. So I get to Korea and that's
- 21:23Speaker 2: when I realized, Man, this.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Shit fun, Like the military's fun.
- 21:28Speaker 2: No Koreer career. Okay. That's why I ain't think I
- 21:32Speaker 2: was gonna last long.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Man.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I had I got so many if.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You know about the military, No, not really.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I hain't got so many article fifteen's.
- 21:40Speaker 1: What what's that?
- 21:41Speaker 2: That's like basically, you done got in trouble for doing
- 21:44Speaker 2: what were you doing? No, I got in trouble before
- 21:47Speaker 2: I even got to Korea. I swear to God to you, like,
- 21:52Speaker 2: I'm in basic training. So they take away all your
- 21:56Speaker 2: privileges and stuff like. So when I say privileges, like
- 21:59Speaker 2: if you smoke, you can't smoke for those eight weeks,
- 22:03Speaker 2: so how long you in there? You can't eat candy,
- 22:05Speaker 2: you can't eat ship. Yeah, they strict on you because
- 22:08Speaker 2: they really trying to show you could a vibe without
- 22:10Speaker 2: that stuff, because if you, like you go to war,
- 22:13Speaker 2: you won't have it.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Okay, And some people are crack, so I.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Guess it was the myth of their method. Long story short,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I get the basic training and like, I'm from Atlanta,
- 22:24Speaker 2: so like a hustling mentality is gonna come to me.
- 22:28Speaker 2: So I was like, we could start. Our family could
- 22:32Speaker 2: sent us stuff. So I would tell them to take
- 22:34Speaker 2: the soap out of there and put a cigarette box
- 22:37Speaker 2: in the soapbox and and clew it back. I'm selling cigarettes.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Ten dollars a cigarette.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Ten dollars a cigarette, and you gotta think this is
- 22:46Speaker 2: my first time really around white people, so I'm not knowing.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I'm like these white people cool as hell until they
- 22:53Speaker 2: got caught. They're like, where you get that from?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Man?
- 22:57Speaker 2: So minute they came in and start pointing me. But
- 23:01Speaker 2: so I'm so good. I would buy cards from the PX.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I would buy cards from there, and I would send
- 23:10Speaker 2: it back to home, but I would have the money
- 23:12Speaker 2: in there. So I never kept money in my locker.
- 23:15Speaker 2: So when they saw that they had no evidence on
- 23:18Speaker 2: me for real, I think I was the first one
- 23:19Speaker 2: with a real rico charge.
- 23:22Speaker 1: What's that?
- 23:24Speaker 2: Just a bunch of crime?
- 23:26Speaker 1: So discharge?
- 23:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounded like a line, I swear to God,
- 23:31Speaker 2: like I could show you proove.
- 23:33Speaker 1: How long did you last?
- 23:34Speaker 2: After that? I went to Korea, and when I got
- 23:37Speaker 2: the career I had, got like, they give you so
- 23:39Speaker 2: much freedom to wait, you either punish yourself.
- 23:45Speaker 1: So they go from all restrictions to mad freedom.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah in career, Oh man, it was grat.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Okay, how long were you there for a year? Okay,
- 23:53Speaker 1: so you made it a year and then you came
- 23:56Speaker 1: home and they said get out.
- 23:58Speaker 2: They just say it like that.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Okay. Uh.
- 24:01Speaker 2: The commander, he was like Green. I'm gonna be honest
- 24:04Speaker 2: with you. I'm surprised you last this long. I mean
- 24:08Speaker 2: too Yeah, but he said you could pass me spool.
- 24:11Speaker 2: He said, now you could get out or you could
- 24:17Speaker 2: re enlist, but I don't think you a last here.
- 24:22Speaker 2: So with that being said, I was like, I'm gonna
- 24:24Speaker 2: get out because I'm still at this time. I feel
- 24:26Speaker 2: like I got some money, so I'm like, now I
- 24:28Speaker 2: could get back and chasing my dream like for that
- 24:31Speaker 2: was my whole plan. But I just never thought I
- 24:32Speaker 2: would go end up in Korea.
- 24:34Speaker 1: So the military was paying you weekly while you were there,
- 24:36Speaker 1: or I don't you.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Paid by week? You get paid by week? Okay, but
- 24:39Speaker 2: a lot of people this is what the people don't
- 24:42Speaker 2: realize what the military do. It kind of sets you
- 24:44Speaker 2: up for failure that you always need them because every
- 24:48Speaker 2: two weeks you start depending on you live and checked
- 24:50Speaker 2: the check.
- 24:50Speaker 1: But that's the thing. Don't they take ere of your
- 24:53Speaker 1: like overhead and all that stuff? Well, I thought, you
- 24:56Speaker 1: don't you live in the army or something. You live together?
- 25:01Speaker 2: Yeah, if you live on base and stuff like that.
- 25:03Speaker 2: But you gotta think about it. You gotta have a car,
- 25:05Speaker 2: you gotta get around so if you wanna you don't
- 25:08Speaker 2: wanna eat the food in the cafeteria. You know what
- 25:11Speaker 2: I'm saying. So what that being said is like God forbid,
- 25:17Speaker 2: if you like wearing tennis shoes, you buy tennis shoes.
- 25:21Speaker 2: All that stuff is started.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Just so you was a stagnan tips. She was having
- 25:24Speaker 1: a good old time.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I ain't stacked nothing.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Okay, so you get you get honorable discharged. You tell
- 25:30Speaker 1: your girl, was that a difficult conversation? No?
- 25:34Speaker 2: I think she knew I wasn't gonna stand. She probably
- 25:36Speaker 2: was surprised. I lasted that long. Like I'm telling I
- 25:39Speaker 2: started off. So the other article fifteen, we had found
- 25:46Speaker 2: some cards. Man, we playing cards in the dorm room
- 25:51Speaker 2: where you're supposed to be like sleep. So we playing
- 25:54Speaker 2: cards and I'm talking trash to the guy, and all
- 25:58Speaker 2: of a sudden, I don't see him no more. All
- 26:00Speaker 2: I see is the drill starry. So I'm the only
- 26:03Speaker 2: one get caught with the cards. But I did not tell.
- 26:09Speaker 1: You who. And people in they how they snitch.
- 26:13Speaker 2: It, Well, that's what they were used to doing. You
- 26:16Speaker 2: can't blame them for what they used to. They didn't
- 26:18Speaker 2: want to get.
- 26:18Speaker 1: In trouble, so you get out of the military. Next
- 26:22Speaker 1: next milestone.
- 26:23Speaker 2: That's when I started the videos.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Okay, that's when you need to start a social social
- 26:27Speaker 1: media So when do you see ones starting really hit man?
- 26:31Speaker 2: When I I think it was doing the shift Leader
- 26:35Speaker 2: in the in the Professor Fleet character. But when I
- 26:40Speaker 2: did that shift Leader, cause I had did a few
- 26:43Speaker 2: videos before then, but only my friends were like laughing
- 26:46Speaker 2: and like cause they know me. But when I saw
- 26:50Speaker 2: so many people that I didn't know start like laughing
- 26:53Speaker 2: at the shift Leader videos, I was like, man, I
- 26:55Speaker 2: got something with this. And after that it just started
- 26:59Speaker 2: going and I just stop.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I was f in the takeoff then and then it
- 27:03Speaker 1: went from there. So what's your first acting gig after that?
- 27:07Speaker 2: My first acting gig, it was Dirty South House Arrests
- 27:12Speaker 2: or either Digital Lives Matter and that was where uh
- 27:16Speaker 2: we was uh with archive, it was me, DC, Emanuel Hudson,
- 27:21Speaker 2: like all of us was under the same Like who
- 27:24Speaker 2: else was over there? Uh, Erica Dutchess and Mark over
- 27:27Speaker 2: It was so many people, Ernestine Morrison. So while we
- 27:31Speaker 2: over there like.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It, how'd you get over there to begin with?
- 27:35Speaker 2: Sh shooting the shooting the videos? When I once once
- 27:38Speaker 2: I shot the uh video with the shift leet the video,
- 27:42Speaker 2: they saw that and then just started shooting over there
- 27:45Speaker 2: with them. So long story short, a lot of people
- 27:49Speaker 2: was on DC at the time, just like now, but
- 27:52Speaker 2: with them, they was like, if you want DC, found
- 27:55Speaker 2: a role for them. So that's how we were getting
- 27:57Speaker 2: in movies and stuff, okay, and getting like getting a
- 27:59Speaker 2: little gigs and stuff like that.
- 28:01Speaker 1: What do you mean by if you if you, what
- 28:05Speaker 1: do you mean by that?
- 28:06Speaker 2: Like they would want DC on fly yea yeah, but
- 28:10Speaker 2: they would tell them, well, we also got these people,
- 28:13Speaker 2: could you find a road for them? So that's how
- 28:16Speaker 2: we would get some yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Okay, I like that you guys. To you, you guys
- 28:24Speaker 1: are kind of like moving like the Kardashians, like you
- 28:26Speaker 1: all brought us all on.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, it was kind of like that for real.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Okay, so you get on what a success is success
- 28:34Speaker 1: starting to be a little bit more real to you
- 28:36Speaker 1: at this point hood success, hood success.
- 28:38Speaker 2: And when I say hood success, like people around the well,
- 28:41Speaker 2: I see you that type of ship, Like.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Was the money equaling the not okay, got it?
- 28:47Speaker 2: It was it was it was something like you know,
- 28:52Speaker 2: to get by with but it wasn't enough money to
- 28:54Speaker 2: like just be like living. Yeah, because it's still.
- 28:57Speaker 1: You're still like living check or hustle to hustle check exactly. Okay,
- 29:01Speaker 1: what are your parents saying during all of this.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Well, see my mom she was telling me at the time,
- 29:06Speaker 2: she was like, you gotta have a plan. Beat. She
- 29:08Speaker 2: was like, it's not guaranteed, you know, like being a
- 29:11Speaker 2: real mother. But my mother had never seen me on stage,
- 29:16Speaker 2: so she come we had a show at Uptown. She
- 29:18Speaker 2: come to see the show live. It was we would
- 29:22Speaker 2: do a Wratchet People meat show. She come see the
- 29:24Speaker 2: Ratchet People Meat Show. And once she see me live,
- 29:29Speaker 2: she was like, you're gonna make it.
- 29:31Speaker 1: I love that.
- 29:32Speaker 2: And when she told me that, I knew then. I
- 29:34Speaker 2: was like, boy, that's what you know, Like you want
- 29:37Speaker 2: your your parents to believe in you. But my mom,
- 29:41Speaker 2: she had seen her your mama thing and she used
- 29:43Speaker 2: to always say she was like, you like fast money,
- 29:45Speaker 2: Like she was like, you don't. You don't understand you
- 29:48Speaker 2: have to work for certain stuff. But at the same
- 29:50Speaker 2: time she was right, yeah, like I do like fast money,
- 29:54Speaker 2: but I'm still gonna have to work for what I want. Yeah,
- 29:57Speaker 2: it wasn't gonna be handed.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and it definitely wasn't gonna be fat. Man, how
- 30:00Speaker 1: many years? How many years of struggle would you say
- 30:03Speaker 1: you had to.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Go through shit since two years ago?
- 30:08Speaker 1: I like that. I like that. I like that. I
- 30:11Speaker 1: like that, though, I like you. Yeah, so it's like
- 30:14Speaker 1: over ten plus years, right, and then you say two
- 30:16Speaker 1: years Agould you say it's been at least over ten years?
- 30:20Speaker 2: No, I would say probably right at seven and a half,
- 30:24Speaker 2: because it's like all all between those first before two
- 30:29Speaker 2: years ago, I was living, like we were saying, hustle
- 30:31Speaker 2: to hustle. So it's like you kind of like willing
- 30:35Speaker 2: to like work on this, work on network, but now
- 30:38Speaker 2: it's like it's to your discretion.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Like, okay, So what was the pivot moment that happened
- 30:43Speaker 1: two years ago where the landscape kind of changed?
- 30:48Speaker 2: Okay? In twenty nineteen, I had did come into America,
- 30:53Speaker 2: and when I did come into America, that paid very well.
- 30:59Speaker 1: And at this point you you probably know how to
- 31:00Speaker 1: manage money a lot better.
- 31:02Speaker 2: No, I fucked that money up so fast, cause it was,
- 31:07Speaker 2: like I told you it was, it came so fast.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I'm like, bro' were living. Yeah. So when it came,
- 31:14Speaker 2: I was like, man, it's so dope, and I'm thinking
- 31:17Speaker 2: it was gonna always be like that, which it wasn't
- 31:20Speaker 2: because you gotta think after that movie said it's over with.
- 31:24Speaker 2: So but you gotta get some money to realize how
- 31:27Speaker 2: to maintain it and manage it.
- 31:30Speaker 1: So after that, Oh so, it's not not having it
- 31:32Speaker 1: that teaches you. It's once you get it.
- 31:34Speaker 2: And you could not have it for a long time.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And then when you get something, you're gonna start buying
- 31:39Speaker 2: stuff that you wanted. You're gonna look out for people
- 31:42Speaker 2: that you always felt like you had to look out.
- 31:44Speaker 2: But I wasn't in the the space to do that.
- 31:47Speaker 2: You but I ain't realize that.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Yeah, so you blew it, not all at once, but yeah,
- 31:53Speaker 1: pretty fast.
- 31:54Speaker 2: And then you know what, the pandemic happened right after that,
- 31:58Speaker 2: So we're not working and the money I felt like
- 32:01Speaker 2: I had saved up. Oh shit, I ran through that.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so then you're going through the pandemic. What's
- 32:07Speaker 1: your next playoff?
- 32:10Speaker 2: And then right after that, after I do come into America,
- 32:13Speaker 2: I start touring with eighty five South.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Okay, nice, I love the I love the homie bond
- 32:18Speaker 1: in the like, man.
- 32:20Speaker 2: But as soon as we started touring, that's when the
- 32:23Speaker 2: pandemic happened. As soon as I started touring with.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Them, yeah, I even like, dang, God, come on work
- 32:29Speaker 1: with me, man.
- 32:31Speaker 2: I counted them. They sent me the dates. I counted
- 32:34Speaker 2: them dates and multiplied my money by I was like, boy,
- 32:37Speaker 2: I'm rich forever. I like, I felt like I'd never
- 32:41Speaker 2: be broken in the pandemic.
- 32:46Speaker 1: What's your mind state when that happens. Do you start
- 32:48Speaker 1: to question your purpose or what are you thinking?
- 32:51Speaker 2: Well, no, I would question. I would question in the world.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I'm like, what the going away? Wait till I started
- 32:56Speaker 2: getting some money?
- 32:57Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 32:59Speaker 2: So then with that being said.
- 33:01Speaker 1: By the way, did you know because I remember when
- 33:03Speaker 1: the pandemic happened. I was one of those students that
- 33:05Speaker 1: didn't pay attention in school ever, and so I didn't
- 33:08Speaker 1: know that like pandemics and things like that happened. So
- 33:11Speaker 1: when it first happened, I was completely like what the
- 33:14Speaker 1: what the f I remember specifically the NBA canceling the game,
- 33:19Speaker 1: so that was like a huge like you yeah, And
- 33:23Speaker 1: then at first I was like, oh, well, last three months, oh,
- 33:25Speaker 1: the last six months. Then I was like, yo, are
- 33:27Speaker 1: we ever getting out of prison? Like you know, but
- 33:33Speaker 1: I didn't realized how important paying attention in history class
- 33:36Speaker 1: was and.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Not even that because we hear about stuff that goes
- 33:40Speaker 2: on all the time, but it's like if it don't
- 33:42Speaker 2: affect us, we don't really care. No people can say
- 33:45Speaker 2: they do. They don't really care because this shit happening
- 33:47Speaker 2: on right now, but it don't phase us. But it's
- 33:50Speaker 2: like when that happened, I was like, man, the whole
- 33:52Speaker 2: world shut down, luckily for Atlanta, Atlanta and stay shut down, loon,
- 33:57Speaker 2: Like the world was shut down?
- 33:58Speaker 1: What do you mean Atlanta in station down?
- 34:00Speaker 2: We were back running in three weeks?
- 34:02Speaker 1: What no way, no, no, lie.
- 34:05Speaker 2: We couldn't We couldn't do certain stuff. We still couldn't
- 34:08Speaker 2: tour eighty five South couldn't tour. But we started working,
- 34:11Speaker 2: like doing stuff in house, and like it was still
- 34:15Speaker 2: like the who Like what's the what's the governor name? Yeah?
- 34:20Speaker 2: Camp say ship life goes on?
- 34:22Speaker 1: Oh no, in La it was it was, Oh yeah
- 34:24Speaker 1: it was.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I was shut down, was out there.
- 34:27Speaker 1: So I'll tell you something though I had this really
- 34:30Speaker 1: bad thought during the pandemic. I really shouldn't confess this,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but like when they broke out, like you could wear
- 34:34Speaker 1: masks the evils. I guess side of me was like, yo,
- 34:40Speaker 1: we could like really rob somebody, Like what are they
- 34:44Speaker 1: gonna say that person with a mask? Like you know,
- 34:46Speaker 1: it was so easy, And I was like, yo, this
- 34:48Speaker 1: is a dangerous setup, like you're going into these stores
- 34:51Speaker 1: with masks on. And I thought that for at least
- 34:53Speaker 1: a year, like, yo, this could be the ultimate robbery.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Get away with things. You know, you could wear weeds
- 35:01Speaker 1: all that and get away with it right right, you know.
- 35:04Speaker 1: But anyways, that was that was a definite thought in
- 35:06Speaker 1: my mind. But I also remember going through the pandemic
- 35:09Speaker 1: even though the whole world was going through it. That
- 35:12Speaker 1: was the first time I realized like how selfish I was,
- 35:14Speaker 1: because I was like, I get the world's going through this,
- 35:16Speaker 1: but what about.
- 35:18Speaker 2: You not really being selfish because you like we really
- 35:22Speaker 2: we didn't.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Know what was going on. Yeah right, damn like every
- 35:25Speaker 1: time someone tried to pick me up, but like, you know,
- 35:27Speaker 1: the whole world's going through this. Mine, I get that,
- 35:29Speaker 1: but let's focus on But.
- 35:32Speaker 2: You know another thing though, it made you realize like
- 35:35Speaker 2: we have to figure something out, yeah, because why we
- 35:38Speaker 2: depending on depending on like we were. I think before
- 35:43Speaker 2: that everybody was depending on this or depending on that
- 35:46Speaker 2: to happen. But then it's like, I gotta I gotta
- 35:48Speaker 2: put some content out. Let me do this, let me
- 35:50Speaker 2: do that.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Well for you guys, yeah, for the content creators. It
- 35:53Speaker 1: was good for for y'all to some degree. I think
- 35:57Speaker 1: for me with the most I walked away from the pandem,
- 36:00Speaker 1: especially living in La la' is one of those cities
- 36:02Speaker 1: it's like, Hi, nice to meet you. What do you do?
- 36:04Speaker 1: Like it's we don't even care what the last name
- 36:06Speaker 1: is or nothing. What do you do?
- 36:08Speaker 2: How can we a fake place?
- 36:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's super fake, But it was the first time
- 36:12Speaker 1: where people started having conversations like how are you doing?
- 36:15Speaker 1: What are you doing?
- 36:16Speaker 2: What?
- 36:17Speaker 1: You want to hang out at your house? No fancy restaurants.
- 36:20Speaker 1: And I really can say that those two years to
- 36:24Speaker 1: be able to get one on one with friends, even guys,
- 36:27Speaker 1: because guys don't really talk. They kind of do activities
- 36:29Speaker 1: with you. You know, they'll be like, let's work out together,
- 36:31Speaker 1: let's go. If I hit up my homies and I'm like, yo,
- 36:33Speaker 1: you want to hang out there? Like no, but I'm
- 36:37Speaker 1: going to the gym. You can work out with me
- 36:39Speaker 1: if I'm not working out with the name or something.
- 36:41Speaker 1: But it was the first time I got to have
- 36:42Speaker 1: like eye to eye conversations with men where it was
- 36:45Speaker 1: like they were talking about actual issues, like the way
- 36:49Speaker 1: women do. You know what I'm saying.
- 36:50Speaker 2: And it made you appreciate family too, because I ain't.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I was. I had well, I had no choice, but
- 36:57Speaker 2: I was spending so much time with my family, like
- 36:59Speaker 2: we were doing stuff around the house. So it's like
- 37:02Speaker 2: after that, I kept doing it, like like, let me
- 37:04Speaker 2: at least do something with them right now.
- 37:06Speaker 1: And then after the pandemic.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Yeah, even after the pandemic.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Family, Okay, so you survived the pandemic.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Oh, soon as it opened. Soon as the.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Pandemic, Well for you guys, it's three weeks later. No,
- 37:20Speaker 1: but I'm saying, but you could do little stuff in Atlanta.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we could do little stuff in Atlanta. So it
- 37:26Speaker 2: was certain stuff we were finding out we could do.
- 37:29Speaker 2: So after the pandemic ended, I want to say tours
- 37:33Speaker 2: the end of the year. The tour started back the.
- 37:37Speaker 1: End of the year. It wouldn't be two years later.
- 37:40Speaker 1: The next year, I was like, god, it was two years.
- 37:47Speaker 1: The money had been gone, well, they had the unemployment.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Like I saw people that were like Homewoods doing backflips okay,
- 37:53Speaker 1: because they were like, yo, this is the most money
- 37:54Speaker 1: I haven't made in my life.
- 37:55Speaker 2: And I don't know if I can talk about that.
- 37:58Speaker 2: That helped too. But moms were legal because I had
- 38:02Speaker 2: just worked on that coming to America set so I
- 38:05Speaker 2: was employee, okay, and it ended right then. So I
- 38:10Speaker 2: was getting my unemployment from that.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I know in La it was doing. There was a
- 38:14Speaker 1: lot of people doing unemployment schemes.
- 38:16Speaker 2: My cousin. My cousin was getting unemployment in LA. He
- 38:18Speaker 2: ain't never been out there. Yeah no, I went.
- 38:28Speaker 1: After let me tell you something.
- 38:29Speaker 3: There was some people's mailboxes that was getting overloaded with
- 38:33Speaker 3: them unemployment texts, like people was finding ways to ship
- 38:36Speaker 3: them checks out went after the fact but doing yeah yeah, so.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Okay, so you you survived the pandemic gracefully. You come out,
- 38:44Speaker 1: you start going on the road. Yep, the money comes back.
- 38:48Speaker 2: But then you got to think you really playing ketchup.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Even with thet the unemployment during the pandemic was like,
- 38:56Speaker 1: you're hilarious.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Because I wasn't. I wasn't working for it. Ain't appreciate it.
- 39:00Speaker 1: How's your how's your feed me? I think this is
- 39:09Speaker 1: the first ever episode where some fathing meal and just
- 39:12Speaker 1: cooked like I'm at your house. You're like, I'm supposed
- 39:17Speaker 1: to your food.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Taco.
- 39:32Speaker 1: It's got the little sauce to show you this. This
- 39:36Speaker 1: looked like a definite hood taco.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Check it out. You add legos and stuff to it's
- 39:42Speaker 2: pretty good?
- 39:44Speaker 1: Do you usually add this white?
- 39:47Speaker 2: You need a ca Okay, I want a little bit
- 39:51Speaker 2: more cashe on it? What it's salty? Mm hmm? What
- 39:56Speaker 2: it's dry? Man? You need like a lot of.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Well I didn't.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I didn't. I didn't know you was gonna eat it.
- 40:01Speaker 1: I can't.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I can't, George my good.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Oh damn, I wasn't add that much messed up.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Hold on now, bit let me see.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Let me see. Hold on, I'm gonna end up making
- 40:14Speaker 1: this super saucy.
- 40:20Speaker 2: That's all you were missing.
- 40:22Speaker 1: I don't know if I like it with the for
- 40:24Speaker 1: real you know what cuss on? Mm hmm.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Then sometimes you just get you a bag of chips
- 40:29Speaker 2: and eat with it too. Oh man, don't crunch up
- 40:32Speaker 2: them chips on there.
- 40:34Speaker 1: That would have been great if we would have put
- 40:37Speaker 1: the chips on there, but we got some chips.
- 40:41Speaker 2: I didn't know how the budget was set up.
- 40:47Speaker 1: So when you're at home during these broke times, is
- 40:49Speaker 1: this is what you're doing? You're like, oh man, you
- 40:51Speaker 1: know what this could just use a little bit of
- 40:52Speaker 1: chip ad.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Yeah, man, you know what's so good?
- 40:55Speaker 1: Are you gonna do it with chips? It's gonna be good.
- 41:00Speaker 1: I think I was on this show. I forgot who
- 41:02Speaker 1: They added chips to a sandwich and I said.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that's the bit, and you cut it diagonally.
- 41:07Speaker 2: I don't know what about cutting that sandwich diagonally.
- 41:11Speaker 1: In Atlanta thing, because yes, I was asked to be like,
- 41:12Speaker 1: how you cut it?
- 41:14Speaker 2: That's a difference straight.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I said diagonal and they were like, yes, you won,
- 41:19Speaker 1: you passed.
- 41:21Speaker 2: So when we started back tour, they's good, now we're
- 41:26Speaker 2: talking mm hm, and I got yeah, let me add
- 41:31Speaker 2: some saucea to it too, and that pepper jack cheese
- 41:37Speaker 2: I think it was. That's that's good, right. You don't
- 41:39Speaker 2: want to overdo it. Check the flavor from your chicken away.
- 41:44Speaker 2: So we started back tour. This time I realized like, okay,
- 41:49Speaker 2: I never know what could happen. I need to start putting.
- 41:52Speaker 2: I need to save better, put money up in case
- 41:56Speaker 2: this happened, because you never know.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Also that the pandemic I only teach you one of
- 42:01Speaker 1: the things that I definitely walked away with because I
- 42:04Speaker 1: owned the business and it was like doing really well
- 42:06Speaker 1: and it was my only stream of income. When the
- 42:09Speaker 1: pandemic happened, I learned that you should never only have
- 42:12Speaker 1: one stream of income.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Good hold on any of that crunch mhm, we don't.
- 42:27Speaker 2: We don't fuck them up with that.
- 42:29Speaker 1: It reminds me of the crunchy wrap at Choco boll.
- 42:34Speaker 2: This might be a little better though, Okay, I.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Love how proud you are of your cooking.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Well, no, you're right though, because it's like you just
- 42:46Speaker 2: got to have some money, man.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but multiple streams more different. So you get this money,
- 42:50Speaker 1: now you're thinking about saving and making it work.
- 42:53Speaker 2: And then more opportunities just start coming. Oh I'm tripping
- 43:03Speaker 2: another thing. During the pandemic, eighty five South got to
- 43:08Speaker 2: host the BT Awards. Okay, so all between this time
- 43:14Speaker 2: I'm getting unemployment. I do the BT Awards with them.
- 43:19Speaker 2: They stopped my unemployment because they felt like I was employed.
- 43:24Speaker 1: But I would think that that would be like an
- 43:26Speaker 1: independent contractor, you wouldn't have to deal with that till
- 43:28Speaker 1: the very end.
- 43:28Speaker 2: But when you put that Social Security number down on
- 43:31Speaker 2: the right away. So then they sent me some stuff
- 43:34Speaker 2: in the mail. They was like, are you employed them?
- 43:36Speaker 2: I'm like, no, I just didn't right back cut my
- 43:39Speaker 2: unemployment off. Oh shit, yep, That's what I had to
- 43:43Speaker 2: think about, like what happened during that time. But after that,
- 43:47Speaker 2: we get back to touring. And then another thing I
- 43:52Speaker 2: keep You can't really just know you're automatic because if
- 43:56Speaker 2: they have dates, anything could happen, Like, well, we got
- 43:58Speaker 2: to cut back on the budget, so I'm not guaranteed.
- 44:00Speaker 2: So I was like, I need to just start saving
- 44:02Speaker 2: money in case those things happen. But God forbid, it
- 44:06Speaker 2: never happened. I did that just and just start saving
- 44:09Speaker 2: more and then just like notoriety, like more people knowing you,
- 44:14Speaker 2: and then even like doing the eighty five South Show,
- 44:18Speaker 2: and then after that, I start I did a few
- 44:24Speaker 2: music videos. Okay, yeah, So it was like it just
- 44:28Speaker 2: was like the trajectory just was happening exactly how I
- 44:32Speaker 2: would think it was gonna happen, but it just didn't
- 44:34Speaker 2: come at the time. And that I thought. I thought
- 44:37Speaker 2: right after I did come to America, I was just
- 44:39Speaker 2: gonna yeah, but it it didn't happen like that for
- 44:42Speaker 2: a reason.
- 44:43Speaker 1: What do you think that reason is?
- 44:45Speaker 2: Mm to keep you grounded, I'll say, keep you grounded,
- 44:51Speaker 2: and then to understand things like it's not on your
- 44:54Speaker 2: time and appreciate a lot of people. And we don't
- 44:58Speaker 2: realize people like you gonna appreciate this when you get
- 45:01Speaker 2: to this level or getting this place, and I ain't
- 45:04Speaker 2: realize it at the time, like because some people go
- 45:08Speaker 2: through way worse than I thought. I think I went through.
- 45:12Speaker 2: But after the fact, man, when I started just seeing,
- 45:17Speaker 2: like you see the productivity or like the progress of
- 45:25Speaker 2: your own career. Like if I look back certain certain
- 45:28Speaker 2: times when I'm getting deposits from a show, like this
- 45:33Speaker 2: might be twice the money I was getting for a
- 45:35Speaker 2: show and I was so happy to drive to. But
- 45:39Speaker 2: it's like we start feeling entitled, Like you know what I'm.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Saying, Yeah, how do you stop from feeling that entitlement? Though?
- 45:45Speaker 2: Man, you got to just go around people who bitter.
- 45:50Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm saying nobody.
- 45:52Speaker 1: So there's no such thing as the right thing. And
- 45:53Speaker 1: that's why I love this show because they get to
- 45:55Speaker 1: kind of get this perspective.
- 45:57Speaker 2: But no, like you know when you go around somebody
- 45:58Speaker 2: and you hear them complaining and feel like, oh, I
- 46:02Speaker 2: supposed to be doing Like nah, you gotta work for this,
- 46:05Speaker 2: or like this could be me if I don't keep
- 46:07Speaker 2: like grinding and keep working.
- 46:09Speaker 1: What are some key things that you learned about the
- 46:11Speaker 1: industry on your road to success?
- 46:15Speaker 2: Man, be useful. And when I say be useful, a
- 46:22Speaker 2: lot of people try to take away from a situation
- 46:24Speaker 2: when they get around the situation. Sometimes I'm thinking what
- 46:27Speaker 2: can I bring to this situation? Sometimes even if it
- 46:29Speaker 2: don't benefit me at the times, Like I want to
- 46:32Speaker 2: show I'm a team player. So a lot of people
- 46:34Speaker 2: don't want to be a team player.
- 46:36Speaker 1: They just coming with us.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Yeah, And a lot of people and like a lot
- 46:39Speaker 2: of people want to be like a lot of people
- 46:42Speaker 2: want to be the ultimate star. And when I say that,
- 46:45Speaker 2: like I'm thinking about on the sports side, a lot
- 46:48Speaker 2: of people want to be like the main face of
- 46:50Speaker 2: the franchise or something like that. Man, that don't mean
- 46:53Speaker 2: nothing if you're not a good teammate or a team player.
- 46:56Speaker 2: It's sometimes in certain teams if you think about maybe
- 47:00Speaker 2: the Chicago Bulls Dennis Rodney, going any other team Dennis Rodney,
- 47:07Speaker 2: but it's like how he was helping them win championship.
- 47:10Speaker 2: You're gonna remember Dennis Rodney. You're gonna remember stuff he
- 47:13Speaker 2: was doing. I'd rather be on a winning team and
- 47:16Speaker 2: being a role player than being on a team that's
- 47:18Speaker 2: not doing great and being a.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Star, because then it's like that makes sense.
- 47:23Speaker 2: A lot of people don't realize that though you want to,
- 47:27Speaker 2: because the people who make the most money, they they
- 47:30Speaker 2: usually have to have the most bills, more people to
- 47:33Speaker 2: take care of. Yeah, so you find the little level
- 47:36Speaker 2: you want to be at and stay right there.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I mean some people that'll be like
- 47:43Speaker 1: they'll be broke or and they they don't they don't
- 47:48Speaker 1: necessarily I don't say broke, but they don't really help others.
- 47:53Speaker 1: And they'll be like, well, when I am rich, I'm like, oo,
- 47:55Speaker 1: if you're not doing that this right, it's only gonna
- 47:57Speaker 1: get worse because with the more money you make, the
- 47:59Speaker 1: more bills go up.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Man.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:03Speaker 4: No.
- 48:03Speaker 1: When I first moved to la I think my first
- 48:05Speaker 1: room for rent was like four hundred and fifty dollars
- 48:09Speaker 1: that'd be impossible now, you know. But sometimes I joke
- 48:12Speaker 1: with my girlfriend's like, Yo, when I first moved there,
- 48:14Speaker 1: i lived on like twelve hundred a month, I'm like,
- 48:17Speaker 1: how did I do that? But the truth of the
- 48:20Speaker 1: matter is it is like your bills are just gonna
- 48:21Speaker 1: keep growing as you grow. So if you can't find
- 48:23Speaker 1: it now, you you know.
- 48:25Speaker 2: You're gonna want more stuff out of life. You see
- 48:27Speaker 2: more stuff you around certain people. Now your needs grow,
- 48:31Speaker 2: So it's like and plus, you're not the same person.
- 48:34Speaker 1: You was at twenty four, Yeah, yeah.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Twenty seven, thirty, you know what I mean?
- 48:39Speaker 1: What advice would you give to other comics or actors?
- 48:43Speaker 2: It gonna sound crazy, but don't give up. That's why
- 48:46Speaker 2: a lot of people don't make it. Don't give up.
- 48:48Speaker 2: And a lot of people when you look around and
- 48:50Speaker 2: you see certain people, they either gave up or they
- 48:54Speaker 2: got it. They got a bad ass attitude that stopped
- 48:59Speaker 2: a lot of people. If I'll come around you and
- 49:01Speaker 2: you always negative, I don't want to be around you,
- 49:04Speaker 2: even if like even if I'm going through, so I'm
- 49:07Speaker 2: not gonna bring that around you because then you go,
- 49:10Speaker 2: like every time we're always going through something like fear.
- 49:15Speaker 2: You still gotta be like lead certain stuff, like at
- 49:18Speaker 2: the house, if you're going through stuff at the house
- 49:20Speaker 2: or leave stuff at your job.
- 49:21Speaker 1: I agree with that.
- 49:22Speaker 2: A lot of people like you gotta be wanted people
- 49:25Speaker 2: to be be likable. Yeah, people not likable and they
- 49:29Speaker 2: give up. Yeah, and that's why they give up because
- 49:32Speaker 2: they're not likable.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Have you ever burnt bridges in the industry, I'm just y, Yeah,
- 49:39Speaker 1: can you share a story about that. We don't talk
- 49:41Speaker 1: a lot about it, but I do know in the
- 49:43Speaker 1: industry it's a dangerous It's a I learned a valuable
- 49:46Speaker 1: lesson at a very young age on how dangerous is
- 49:49Speaker 1: to burn bridges in the industry because you never know
- 49:52Speaker 1: who you and it comes full circle on your life
- 49:56Speaker 1: that one person it wasn't worth it.
- 49:58Speaker 2: But you know what, I do know this though, it's
- 50:00Speaker 2: like I'm just not burning them just because just to
- 50:05Speaker 2: burn them. After a while, I was like, man, hey,
- 50:09Speaker 2: we don't reach the peak, like if we never have
- 50:11Speaker 2: to work again, that's cool, and then I'm loyal. So
- 50:14Speaker 2: it's like the people that I work with and stuff
- 50:17Speaker 2: like that. Now, if it gets to the point where
- 50:19Speaker 2: we don't work work together, anymore. They donet done. We
- 50:22Speaker 2: done done so much business together. I know. It's just
- 50:25Speaker 2: it's just reached its time, you know what I'm saying.
- 50:27Speaker 2: But it's like the people I'm around, It's like I
- 50:30Speaker 2: I like to be around solid people. So I feel
- 50:33Speaker 2: like you're not solid and I can't trust you or
- 50:34Speaker 2: I can't read you, then I'm faking it.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I don't.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Want to go around nobody. I got a fake laugh with,
- 50:42Speaker 2: fake kick it with. So it's like it's not so
- 50:45Speaker 2: much a burning bridge. It's like if somebody were like,
- 50:47Speaker 2: what happened with you? I say, i'n't fun with them,
- 50:49Speaker 2: and that be it. They'm not talking bad about it.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean sometimes you can burn a bridge like I,
- 50:55Speaker 1: Like I said, accidentally you could burn a bridge. Yeah,
- 50:58Speaker 1: but and don't have to be like I don't f
- 51:01Speaker 1: with them. It just be like I accidentally burned the bridge.
- 51:04Speaker 2: And not knowingly. Yeah, you know what, a lot of
- 51:07Speaker 2: people don't have relationships to know that they burned the bridge.
- 51:11Speaker 1: I was very fortunate. I remember when I did it.
- 51:13Speaker 1: It was ironically it had something to do with ludicrous
- 51:17Speaker 1: def jam kind of messed me up, but it was
- 51:20Speaker 1: it was an accidental overstep. But I was fortunate enough
- 51:23Speaker 1: to have other people on the label call me and
- 51:25Speaker 1: be like, yo, you better send some flowers and start
- 51:28Speaker 1: kissing ass now, because you really did some damage.
- 51:32Speaker 2: But you had a relationship with them.
- 51:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I have a relationship. Yeah, they had relationships where
- 51:37Speaker 1: they were like, go take quality time and fixing. Luckily
- 51:41Speaker 1: I was able to fix it. But I got someone
- 51:45Speaker 1: on the inside saying you messed up. Fixed immediately, you.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Know, but them knowing you what if you was going
- 51:53Speaker 2: around them always with a negative attitude in the mass spirit,
- 51:56Speaker 2: they were like, oh, that's just her.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Yeah, they wouldn't have looked out for you, would have
- 52:00Speaker 1: looked out for me. But but I will never forget
- 52:03Speaker 1: that lesson. And I was like, never ever again, because
- 52:06Speaker 1: I remember I had to work with j jay Z
- 52:09Speaker 1: on a project and that's when it bit me in
- 52:12Speaker 1: the ass. And I said that hurt. It hurt, it
- 52:15Speaker 1: hurt more than you could ever imagine. I was damn,
- 52:18Speaker 1: I don't know, I fucked up. I never forget it.
- 52:22Speaker 1: I was like, never again. You'll never forget a lesson
- 52:25Speaker 1: when it involves jay Z. Right, Yeah, I was like, ah, man,
- 52:32Speaker 1: that was a major funk. Up and yeah, lesson learned
- 52:36Speaker 1: never ever after that, never ever burned.
- 52:38Speaker 2: What a good thing. He'll never forget you.
- 52:41Speaker 1: Oh, it wasn't with j particular, so our cross pass
- 52:47Speaker 1: he definitely forgot. But but it's so funny because I
- 52:52Speaker 1: still email requests the jay Z's publicist. I'll say, like
- 52:56Speaker 1: once every four to six months, and I shoot my
- 53:00Speaker 1: and I'll just be like, go worry. In a couple months,
- 53:02Speaker 1: I'll come back to you. Yeah, And I think she
- 53:04Speaker 1: thinks it's funny at this point.
- 53:06Speaker 2: You know.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Sometimes she'll respond really fast. Sometimes she'll be like, yeah,
- 53:08Speaker 1: I'll see you in a couple of months. She'll be
- 53:11Speaker 1: like that, Yeah, but thank you so much for your time.

- 53:40Speaker 2: he takes some artists and put him in the house
- 53:42Speaker 2: and they compete for fifty.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Thousand, okay, So, and it's called what Could Have been house,
