- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. You're looking at Lambeau Field, where
- 0:19Speaker 1: we're gonna kick off Week eleven a little bit later
- 0:21Speaker 1: on this evening seven, seven fifteen. Let's let's follow it
- 0:26Speaker 1: that local time with the Titans and the Packers, and
- 0:29Speaker 1: Week eleven a great game. We hope fingers crossed tonight
- 0:34Speaker 1: streaming on Prime Video. This is a Thursday edition, a
- 0:37Speaker 1: game day edition of NFL Now on NFL Network. Where
- 0:40Speaker 1: in our newsroom in Los Angeles, where it is warm
- 0:43Speaker 1: and toasty, and we're happy that you were here. My
- 0:45Speaker 1: name is andrews Ceciliana. All the injury news, everything you
- 0:48Speaker 1: need to know. We're live at lambau coming up momentarily,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and Jimmy Johnson, the Hall of Famer, will join us
- 0:53Speaker 1: next hour. Weather, however, is our lead today, not at
- 0:57Speaker 1: Lambeau but in western New York. The Bills and the
- 1:01Speaker 1: Browns are supposed to play on Sunday. I say supposed
- 1:04Speaker 1: to play on one day because what is forecast is
- 1:08Speaker 1: a crippling snowstorm. Not my words, um that that's from
- 1:13Speaker 1: the State of New York and Active Weather and everyone
- 1:15Speaker 1: doing the forecast we could see feet of snow, not
- 1:17Speaker 1: inches of snow, between three and maybe even six feet
- 1:23Speaker 1: of snow. The interrapt report Tom Pello Sero covering this
- 1:26Speaker 1: one for us. It's not necessarily the snow guys on
- 1:30Speaker 1: game day because time it might actually be clear come
- 1:34Speaker 1: one o'clock on Sunday. It's the feet of snow that
- 1:38Speaker 1: are supposed to fall, and the snow is already coming
- 1:40Speaker 1: down between now and then, and this is a logistical mess,
- 1:46Speaker 1: that's right, Andrew. The National Weather Service has issued a
- 1:49Speaker 1: lake effects snow warning for southern Erie County that is
- 1:52Speaker 1: in effect until one am Eastern Time on Saturday. According
- 1:56Speaker 1: to National Weather Service, the snow accumulation could be anywhere
- 2:00Speaker 1: from one to three feet wind us up to thirty
- 2:02Speaker 1: five miles per hour, which also raises the risks of downs,
- 2:05Speaker 1: tree branches, and scattered power outages and other fallout from
- 2:09Speaker 1: this storm. So the Bills and Browns game is scheduled
- 2:12Speaker 1: for one pm Eastern Time on Sunday, a full thirty
- 2:16Speaker 1: six hours after this storm should be ending. But as
- 2:19Speaker 1: you mentioned, when you have this type of snowfall and
- 2:23Speaker 1: this potential type of damage, it raises issues regarding the
- 2:27Speaker 1: ability of the Browns, to travel in, of fans, to
- 2:30Speaker 1: travel in, of local emergency crews and everyone else who
- 2:33Speaker 1: normally help out on game day, whether they can clear
- 2:36Speaker 1: all the snow, all those other types of things. So
- 2:38Speaker 1: what I can tell you is as at this point,
- 2:40Speaker 1: the NFL is of course monitoring the storm. They are
- 2:43Speaker 1: in regular communication with the Bills and the Browns. Nobody,
- 2:46Speaker 1: from what I've been told, expecting a decision today on
- 2:50Speaker 1: where this game would be played. It really it is
- 2:52Speaker 1: about where the game has played andrew not when. If
- 2:56Speaker 1: the game had to be moved, there are other alternate venues.
- 2:59Speaker 1: It could go to. Detroit is certainly one possibility. For
- 3:02Speaker 1: my understanding. There is not discussion about moving the time
- 3:05Speaker 1: of the game, pushing it back a day or two.
- 3:07Speaker 1: That's a part because the Bills have a Thanksgiving morning
- 3:10Speaker 1: game in Detroit against the Line right. The idea that
- 3:13Speaker 1: they would go to Detroit and then stay through to
- 3:15Speaker 1: Thanksgiving to play again in Detroit a couple of days
- 3:18Speaker 1: later is just absurd. Don't know if they've even discussed
- 3:21Speaker 1: that possibility. The Browns are supposed to fly in Saturday afternoon.
- 3:25Speaker 1: The other wouldn't work. People say, oh, drive it's close,
- 3:27Speaker 1: it's only two fifty miles. Well, as of four pm
- 3:31Speaker 1: Eastern today, they are shutting down the New York State
- 3:34Speaker 1: THRUWA Interstate ninety, so you can't even drive from Cleveland
- 3:39Speaker 1: to Buffalo. So, like, what do they do fly in
- 3:41Speaker 1: Sunday morning? I mean, that's a possibility. As I said,
- 3:44Speaker 1: the entire thing is a mess. Fingers crossed. Maybe they
- 3:48Speaker 1: get in there, can't get the bills out though, if
- 3:50Speaker 1: you wait until Saturday morning to play it somewhere else hypothetically,
- 3:53Speaker 1: All right, let's let's talk something nonweather. I how about
- 3:56Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford on the practice field Wednesday for the Rams.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Not officially cleared yet for Sunday, but it seems to
- 4:03Speaker 1: be trending in that direction. Matthew Stafford is expected to
- 4:07Speaker 1: be clear for manifoldt concussion protocol and play on Sunday
- 4:10Speaker 1: after missing just one game for the Los Angeles Rams.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And this is all good news. And you know, for Stafford,
- 4:15Speaker 1: I know, the Rams held out hope that he would somehow,
- 4:18Speaker 1: some way kind of beat the odds and be able
- 4:20Speaker 1: to play on Sunday. Was not to be. John Walford
- 4:22Speaker 1: was out there and you know didn't quite. I would
- 4:25Speaker 1: say look like the Rams offense usually looks like they
- 4:27Speaker 1: would hope to look. So having Stafford back, the fact
- 4:31Speaker 1: that he was a full participant yesterday in practice is
- 4:33Speaker 1: a very very good sign, basically an indication that he
- 4:37Speaker 1: is on the doorstep of being clear to Sean McVeigh
- 4:39Speaker 1: explained yesterday that is expected to happen to the Rams
- 4:42Speaker 1: should get their starting quarterback back for this Sunday is
- 4:45Speaker 1: very important game, and they could get David Edwards back
- 4:47Speaker 1: as well. They're starting left guard, which means they would
- 4:50Speaker 1: have four fifths of their Week one offensive line, which
- 4:53Speaker 1: would be a huge step in the right direction for them.
- 4:56Speaker 1: It would still, however, be their tenth different old line
- 4:59Speaker 1: combination in ten weeks. Let's look at the quarterbacks from
- 5:02Speaker 1: Monday Night tom Both Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy here
- 5:07Speaker 1: are on the injury list. That's right, Andrew Cardinals coach
- 5:10Speaker 1: Cliff Kingsbury said that both Kyler Murray with his hamstring
- 5:13Speaker 1: Colt McCoy with his knee are considered day today at
- 5:17Speaker 1: this point. The hope, according to Kingsbury, is that one
- 5:20Speaker 1: of them will be available for a Monday night game
- 5:23Speaker 1: against the forty nine. Because Arizona doesn't play until Monday night,
- 5:26Speaker 1: they did not have to issue a formal injury report
- 5:29Speaker 1: on Wednesday. With Murray, he's dealing with that hamstring that
- 5:32Speaker 1: kept him out last week. Of course, mobility a huge
- 5:35Speaker 1: part of Kyler Murray's game, and so the hamstring that
- 5:38Speaker 1: we saw him having some agony from during the first
- 5:41Speaker 1: episode of Hard Knocks certainly is something that has slowed
- 5:44Speaker 1: him down. With regard to McCoy, he got banged up
- 5:46Speaker 1: when he started in Murray's place against the Rams, ended
- 5:50Speaker 1: up staying in that game. But this will be worth
- 5:53Speaker 1: monitoring here. They do have a third quarterback on the
- 5:56Speaker 1: active roster, that is Trace McSorley, who can throw it
- 5:59Speaker 1: on a dime, but only as attempted four NFL passes,
- 6:01Speaker 1: never started a game. If for some reason neither can
- 6:04Speaker 1: go solely would be the next man up for Arizona
- 6:07Speaker 1: against the forty night. It surely did appear briefly on
- 6:09Speaker 1: the field this past Sunday in l A when Colton
- 6:12Speaker 1: McCoy had to go to the sideline for one play.
- 6:15Speaker 1: All right, justin Jefferson's statusy and he has a toe injury, Yeah,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I would say set off some alarm bells yesterday afternoon
- 6:23Speaker 1: and last night. I would say the fact that Justin Jefferson,
- 6:25Speaker 1: maybe the best receiver in the NFL, is only the
- 6:27Speaker 1: most fun to watch. Popped up on the injury report
- 6:30Speaker 1: as limited with a toe injury, which is an indication
- 6:32Speaker 1: that either we didn't know about it previously or something
- 6:35Speaker 1: happened in practice. Checked on it sounds like Justin Jefferson
- 6:38Speaker 1: is going to be fine. Really no issue here, just
- 6:41Speaker 1: to scare, which does indicate just how insanely important he
- 6:45Speaker 1: is to the Vikings, to their offense, to the NFL
- 6:48Speaker 1: landscape as a whole, to everyone in fantasy. This is
- 6:51Speaker 1: a pretty good player. Anybody. Sounds like his toe has
- 6:53Speaker 1: been a view good alright, Good news for that because
- 6:57Speaker 1: they also play on Thanksgiving. So a quick turnaround here
- 7:00Speaker 1: for the Vikings after their game coming up Sunday against
- 7:03Speaker 1: the Cowboys. He and Rappa war Tom Pellison, old gentlemen,
- 7:06Speaker 1: thank you. Let's get the tonight's game. Heating up the field,
- 7:11Speaker 1: making sure the tundra is not frozen. Titans and Packers
- 7:15Speaker 1: with significant playoff implications for both of these teams. There's
- 7:20Speaker 1: no snow as of now, but it is a balmy
- 7:24Speaker 1: twenties seven degrees for our live shot next to said
- 7:27Speaker 1: heated field with the great Stacy Dale's trying to stay warm. Oh,
- 7:31Speaker 1: there are flurries there, I see falling Stacy. Yes, yeah, Andrew,
- 7:35Speaker 1: there are flurries. It is just starting. It is just starting.
- 7:38Speaker 1: The temperature is currently in the twenties, in the mid twenties,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but the real field is in the mid teens. So
- 7:45Speaker 1: we'll see how Tennessee fairs as they come in here today.
- 7:47Speaker 1: The Green Bay Packers are hopeful they're gonna have Randall
- 7:49Speaker 1: Cobb here. Shortly three o'clock will be the rough deadline
- 7:53Speaker 1: as to their activating him returning from those four games
- 7:57Speaker 1: that he has missed because of the ankle injuries sustained
- 7:59Speaker 1: in Week six. That would be huge because Packer's offense
- 8:02Speaker 1: to put up thirty one over thirty for first time
- 8:05Speaker 1: this season against Dallas and their victory on Sunday. Uh,
- 8:08Speaker 1: we are certainly going to be keeping our eye on
- 8:11Speaker 1: the offensive line. David Botry Elton Jenkins both questioned, well,
- 8:13Speaker 1: that is not surprising. They each played a dent of
- 8:16Speaker 1: their snaps in that win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Amory Rogers. Of course, let go by the Packers this week,
- 8:23Speaker 1: he had five fumbles. Obviously the punt returner and uh,
- 8:27Speaker 1: offensively not much of an impact for Amory Rogers, but
- 8:31Speaker 1: really in the return game on special teams those five fumbles,
- 8:34Speaker 1: he lost two of them four muffed punts, and so
- 8:37Speaker 1: the Packers had to make a difficult decision. Keyshawn Nixon
- 8:40Speaker 1: would be the guy that is expected to take over
- 8:43Speaker 1: at punt return and then just the overall theme Andrew
- 8:46Speaker 1: for the Green Bay Packers this week, coming off what
- 8:48Speaker 1: wasn't absolutely I'll use the word massive victory over the
- 8:51Speaker 1: Cowboys to end that five game losing streak. Did they
- 8:54Speaker 1: get their mojo back? Well? I asked running back A J.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Dillon that this week and he told me we're definitely
- 9:00Speaker 1: headed in the right direction with that mojo. But if
- 9:02Speaker 1: we were to win two games in five days, which
- 9:05Speaker 1: would be tonight against the Tennessee Titans, we would definitely
- 9:08Speaker 1: have that mojo back. So that is what they're aiming
- 9:10Speaker 1: for as we get ready for temperatures to continue to
- 9:14Speaker 1: drop into the evening for a great TNF game. Andrew,
- 9:17Speaker 1: stay Seedale, stay warm. Would you please live there at Lambeau.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And you mentioned A J. Dillon last time. The Titans
- 9:23Speaker 1: are up there in December, A J. Dillon had a huge,
- 9:28Speaker 1: huge game. Can they run the football? Will they be
- 9:32Speaker 1: patient and stick to running the football? You see what
- 9:36Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers did last week? It worked the ball in
- 9:40Speaker 1: twenty times. Brian Baldinger with me on NFL now. But
- 9:43Speaker 1: look who's in the studio, Balding. Judy Batista makes an
- 9:47Speaker 1: in studio appearance. High. They're good to be here, great
- 9:50Speaker 1: to have you here. Judy is gonna be covering the
- 9:52Speaker 1: Chargers and the Chiefs over here next to so Fi
- 9:54Speaker 1: or in so Fi were next to so Fi? Coming
- 9:57Speaker 1: up on Sunday night. That really is the question, Judy.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Isn't it for the Packers? The formula that work last week?
- 10:02Speaker 1: Can they actually stick with that formula this week against
- 10:05Speaker 1: a very good Tennessee defense. The Packers are a running team.
- 10:09Speaker 1: When was the last time we really thought of them
- 10:11Speaker 1: that way? But they are averaging a hundred twenty nine
- 10:14Speaker 1: rushing yards per game. That's the third most in the
- 10:17Speaker 1: Aaron Rogers era. Last week against the Cowboys, Aaron Jones
- 10:21Speaker 1: went over a hundred yards. That was the fourth time
- 10:23Speaker 1: this season, he's gone over a hundred yards. But as
- 10:26Speaker 1: Andrew just mentioned, the question is will they stick with it?
- 10:29Speaker 1: Because Titans opponents do not stick with the run. That's
- 10:33Speaker 1: not surprising. They're an incredibly stingy run defense, second best
- 10:37Speaker 1: against the run in the league. They allow only eighty
- 10:39Speaker 1: five yards per game, and opponents simply give up. Opponents
- 10:43Speaker 1: are averaging only twenty one rushing attempts against the Titans.
- 10:47Speaker 1: That's the fewest in the entire league. So it is
- 10:50Speaker 1: going to be on the Packers not just to run
- 10:53Speaker 1: the ball, but to keep trying to run the ball well.
- 10:57Speaker 1: To your point, Judy, I mean, they're down the fourth
- 11:00Speaker 1: quarter and they did never abandon the run. So that's key.
- 11:04Speaker 1: That's a you know, really to the staff and to
- 11:07Speaker 1: how the guys blocked up front to keep Aaron Jones
- 11:09Speaker 1: and a J. Dillon going. But you know, they ran
- 11:13Speaker 1: for two over twenty yards against Buffalo just two weeks ago,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but they lost that game. The difference in the win
- 11:19Speaker 1: against Dallas as they got the go ball, they got
- 11:21Speaker 1: play action, passed the one obviously the Watson for fifty
- 11:24Speaker 1: eight yards, another one to thirty nine on the crossing
- 11:27Speaker 1: rount one to Lazard for thirty nine yards. They got
- 11:30Speaker 1: the go ball goal. That's what they didn't have judy
- 11:33Speaker 1: in their five game losing streight. They tried, they just
- 11:36Speaker 1: weren't successful. And so if they can run the ball
- 11:41Speaker 1: against Tennessee with every any kind of success at all,
- 11:44Speaker 1: but still get some play action passes and get behind
- 11:46Speaker 1: the defense, then the offense opens up and then you
- 11:49Speaker 1: can score in the thirties. This is a very difficult
- 11:52Speaker 1: defense to do it against. Their like a giant python.
- 11:54Speaker 1: They choke you and constrict you. But that is their
- 11:58Speaker 1: formula to keep running a judy but then to be
- 12:00Speaker 1: able to get the go ball. And with Watson maybe
- 12:03Speaker 1: Randall Cobb this week, uh luz Ard, that's what was missing.
- 12:07Speaker 1: You put that back in the offense, they look a
- 12:08Speaker 1: lot different the python thing again. Baldi that that's back
- 12:12Speaker 1: to back days with snake analogies. You know how I
- 12:14Speaker 1: feel about snakes. I don't so that good. We're voting
- 12:20Speaker 1: to no on that analogy. More right. The Packers will
- 12:23Speaker 1: say this. I referenced the game back in a j
- 12:26Speaker 1: Dillon had a huge game that was forty to fourteen
- 12:28Speaker 1: weeks sixteen, a plus seventy four point differential for the
- 12:33Speaker 1: Packers over the Titans the last two times Tennessee has
- 12:36Speaker 1: gone to lambo. Something to think of tonight, Randall Cobb,
- 12:39Speaker 1: everyone scrambled to go pick him up on the fantasy
- 12:42Speaker 1: Thank you Judy, thank you Baldi. Both back a little
- 12:44Speaker 1: bit later here on this two hour Game Day edition
- 12:46Speaker 1: of NFL. Now, let's get to the Eagles, because the
- 12:49Speaker 1: Eagles have a big bounce back game this week as
- 12:52Speaker 1: well as they have to go to Indianapolis and they
- 12:55Speaker 1: have to find a way to not turn the ball over.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Four turnovers doomed them Monday night. Really, in my od
- 13:02Speaker 1: this team and my other invisual on this team, because
- 13:07Speaker 1: every individual on his team looked themselves in the mirror
- 13:11Speaker 1: and they held complete accountability on themselves for how they
- 13:17Speaker 1: could have done something better. And not only um after
- 13:21Speaker 1: a loss, but that is after the joyous moments, that
- 13:25Speaker 1: is after every game. So that is something that imired
- 13:28Speaker 1: about this team my mind, that about the individual on
- 13:32Speaker 1: his team and the mentality that we've grown to have
- 13:35Speaker 1: as a collective group. The time of possession was awful
- 13:38Speaker 1: as well. Hi there James Palmer for the Eagles two
- 13:42Speaker 1: to one in favor of the commanders forty minutes to
- 13:44Speaker 1: twenty minutes, really, and now they have to move on
- 13:46Speaker 1: and try to bounce back without Dallas Goddard. Yeah, Andrew,
- 13:51Speaker 1: and how do you replace Dallas Goddard, Well, head coach
- 13:54Speaker 1: next Serianni said, you can't. You can't replace him because
- 13:57Speaker 1: the skill set is so unique. One of the best
- 13:58Speaker 1: tight ends in all of football, second in the NFL
- 14:01Speaker 1: among tight ends in receiving yards. He's actually one of
- 14:03Speaker 1: the best down the field passing threats, and you include
- 14:07Speaker 1: receivers in that group as well as how good of
- 14:09Speaker 1: a blocker he is. So the Eagles actually believe there
- 14:12Speaker 1: are portions of their playbook when Goddard's out there not
- 14:14Speaker 1: gonna be able to use. There's plays because of his
- 14:16Speaker 1: unique skill set. They can't just plug somebody else in
- 14:19Speaker 1: and do that. So what's gonna happen. It's gonna be
- 14:21Speaker 1: spread around some of the other playmakers that they do have.
- 14:24Speaker 1: A j Brown Is gonna have more targets, DeVante Smith,
- 14:26Speaker 1: more targets Quez Watkins, all three of those receivers as
- 14:29Speaker 1: well as look for the running backs out of the
- 14:31Speaker 1: backfield to be a little bit more involved in this
- 14:33Speaker 1: passing game. The player that would step in that specific
- 14:37Speaker 1: spot at the tight end would be Jack Stall and
- 14:39Speaker 1: that would be the guy that would be replacing Dallas
- 14:42Speaker 1: Goddard specifically on the field in that spot. Now, there's
- 14:44Speaker 1: an interesting play that happened against Washington even before the
- 14:47Speaker 1: Goddard injury, where there was a crossing route that still
- 14:50Speaker 1: ran and he caught a pass from Jalen Hurts, and
- 14:52Speaker 1: head coach Nick Sirianni said on the headset to the
- 14:54Speaker 1: rest of his coaching staff, I think I see a
- 14:56Speaker 1: lot of trust installed from from Jalen Hurts, and that's
- 14:59Speaker 1: gonna be needed. But what it changes for Jalen Hurts
- 15:02Speaker 1: is what we're gonna keep our eyes on because that
- 15:03Speaker 1: was the security blank it for him in this passing game.
- 15:06Speaker 1: We'll see without god Ord how that changes things for
- 15:09Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, who's playing brilliantly. James I would also have
- 15:11Speaker 1: to thank we keep an eye on the Philadelphia run
- 15:14Speaker 1: defense considering a what Washington did last week and be
- 15:18Speaker 1: what Jonathan Taylor did last week. Yeah, what he did
- 15:22Speaker 1: last week is he won Offensive Player of the Week
- 15:25Speaker 1: the way he ran the football in that victory that
- 15:28Speaker 1: they had and he has more yards and more touchdowns
- 15:30Speaker 1: on the rushing spot than anybody else over you know,
- 15:33Speaker 1: over the last two years. And they know what type
- 15:35Speaker 1: of challenge he is, they know the type of back
- 15:37Speaker 1: he is, and they know that they've had issues stopping
- 15:39Speaker 1: the football. There twenty five in yards per carry all
- 15:41Speaker 1: out at four point seven, their twentieth against the run
- 15:44Speaker 1: and twentieth on third down. And that's the spart that
- 15:47Speaker 1: Jonathan Gann, their defensive coordinator, said today has been the
- 15:50Speaker 1: issue the way the teams have been in third and short.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Then this Eagles defense can't rely on what they're really
- 15:57Speaker 1: good at. Me that's obviously stopping teams when it's a
- 16:00Speaker 1: passing down. They are number one in the NFL in turnovers.
- 16:03Speaker 1: They have maybe the best corner back duo in the
- 16:05Speaker 1: NFL and Darius Lay and James Bradberry, and they lead
- 16:09Speaker 1: the NFL and turnovers. So they can't utilize all those aspects, Andrew,
- 16:13Speaker 1: if a team has the option to run or pass
- 16:16Speaker 1: on third and short, they know that the Colts make
- 16:18Speaker 1: you have all eleven come to the ball, all eleven
- 16:21Speaker 1: half to tackle. They need to change some things schematically upfront.
- 16:24Speaker 1: But this is a big, big focal point for the
- 16:26Speaker 1: Eagles this week. All right, they went out and signed
- 16:27Speaker 1: Lindvall Joseph. Maybe some more help could be on the way,
- 16:30Speaker 1: but likely not in time for Sunday in Indianapolis as
- 16:34Speaker 1: the Eagles try to break a losing streak for the
- 16:36Speaker 1: first time this yearies streak of one granted. As we
- 16:39Speaker 1: continue here in NFL now on a game day, getting
- 16:42Speaker 1: ready for the game at Lambo, walking down memory Lane.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Next with the Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson. What does
- 16:50Speaker 1: he think about these Cowboys? That's next? Now, all right,
- 17:03Speaker 1: I wish we could do and hour with this man
- 17:05Speaker 1: right here, the Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson about his
- 17:07Speaker 1: new book Swagger. Coach is great to have you. We
- 17:10Speaker 1: could talk analytics, we could talk trade value chart, we
- 17:13Speaker 1: could talk uh, I don't know, Honduras and survivor Why
- 17:18Speaker 1: write a book now at seventy nine years old and
- 17:22Speaker 1: you have so many stories, Like someone twisted your arm,
- 17:25Speaker 1: Coach and said you've got to get all these out.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Andrew my attorney, Nick Kristen, I said, hey, you've got
- 17:32Speaker 1: all these people over the years, I can't count the
- 17:37Speaker 1: number of coaches and owners and general managers, not only
- 17:40Speaker 1: football people, but baseball people, basketball people coming down and
- 17:45Speaker 1: talk about evaluating talent and building the team. Said, you've
- 17:49Speaker 1: got to write a book. You got to really tell
- 17:50Speaker 1: the story. And then once we got into doing it,
- 17:54Speaker 1: then I started, you know, talking about the sacrifices with
- 17:58Speaker 1: my family and the struggles that my family and the
- 18:01Speaker 1: struggles following you know, Tom Landry and following Don Shula,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and so the book actually got interesting, Jimmy, relive in
- 18:11Speaker 1: some of those memories. Well, I'll get it straight. Here,
- 18:14Speaker 1: wasn't on durs was Nicaragle with Survivor. That's a great
- 18:17Speaker 1: chapter here. You opened the book talking about how many
- 18:19Speaker 1: people have flown down to the Florida Keys. You're you're
- 18:21Speaker 1: at home right now to seek your counsel, whether it
- 18:24Speaker 1: be an owner or a coach, or someone thinking of
- 18:26Speaker 1: taking a job. Everyone, though, Jimmy loves chapter twelve here,
- 18:31Speaker 1: which which I read this morning again. It's called Jerry
- 18:34Speaker 1: and Me. And I want to get the quote straight
- 18:36Speaker 1: here you say, speaking of Jerry Jones, obviously you say
- 18:40Speaker 1: I love you, but at times I hate you. And
- 18:44Speaker 1: you opened the chapter with that, and you end the
- 18:47Speaker 1: chapter with that. Jimmy, you tell the stories about how
- 18:50Speaker 1: Jerry wanted the personnel control about how how he could
- 18:54Speaker 1: make five million bucks, but nobody would care, and you
- 18:56Speaker 1: could trade for a backup old linement and people would
- 18:58Speaker 1: love you. Is there anything in this book, Jimmy, that
- 19:02Speaker 1: you wrote about Jerry that you think he would change
- 19:07Speaker 1: his mind about the hall rot, the ring of honor? Oh,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I don't know. You know, of course, the contract was
- 19:15Speaker 1: always a little bit of a conflict. It wasn't early
- 19:18Speaker 1: because early, you know, before Jerry bought the Cowboys, he said, Hey,
- 19:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna borrow this money to buy the Cowboys, he said,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and I'm gonna handle all the finances. I'm gonna handle
- 19:29Speaker 1: all the business. You had, all the football and all
- 19:31Speaker 1: the football decisions and the personnel decisions. And so that's
- 19:35Speaker 1: how my attorney, Nick Christen wrote up the contract which
- 19:39Speaker 1: we put in the book. And it was fine. You know,
- 19:42Speaker 1: in the early years we were losing, and then we
- 19:45Speaker 1: started winning, and plus he paid off that loan after
- 19:49Speaker 1: the fourth year if we won the first Super Bowl,
- 19:51Speaker 1: and so then it got to be a conflict. He
- 19:53Speaker 1: redid the contract two or three times, you know, giving
- 19:56Speaker 1: me more money. Uh, And each time he wanted to
- 19:59Speaker 1: bring take all of those uh terms of the contract
- 20:03Speaker 1: out of it, and I said, no, that's not negotiable.
- 20:06Speaker 1: You know, that's how we set up. They'll range, but
- 20:08Speaker 1: that I wouldn't handle personnel and I'd handle football, And
- 20:11Speaker 1: so that's how we're gonna stick with it. That that
- 20:14Speaker 1: got to be a conflict the last couple of years,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and that's when I knew, well, this wasn't gonna last either.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I was gonna have to pull back and concede and
- 20:24Speaker 1: you know, change the contract, or else I was gonna
- 20:27Speaker 1: have to leave. And he's got plenty of good people
- 20:29Speaker 1: there and personnel around him. Now, certainly they have built
- 20:32Speaker 1: a good team and this is a winning team despite
- 20:34Speaker 1: what happened this past week in Green Bay. But do
- 20:37Speaker 1: you think that love of the spotlight and love of
- 20:41Speaker 1: the personnel side Jimmy holds this team back. I don't know.
- 20:46Speaker 1: You know, I said the other day that I think
- 20:49Speaker 1: this is the best Dallas team I have seen a
- 20:52Speaker 1: long time. Now. That they didn't play very well against
- 20:56Speaker 1: Green Bay. I was disappointed and surprised at they gave
- 21:00Speaker 1: up a fourteen point lead late in the game. Um,
- 21:04Speaker 1: but you know, you look at the NFC and there's
- 21:07Speaker 1: four or five team. I don't think it's a great
- 21:09Speaker 1: team in NFC, And there's four or five teams that
- 21:12Speaker 1: you could throw a dark any one of them could
- 21:14Speaker 1: be in the Super Bowl, and I think Dallas is
- 21:17Speaker 1: one of those teams. So you look at it, Hey,
- 21:21Speaker 1: this could be the year. Uh just you know. Of
- 21:23Speaker 1: course the Minnesota game was gonna be a big one
- 21:26Speaker 1: this weekend, but I think they've got a shot. Do
- 21:31Speaker 1: you think they need Beckham? I think Beckham would help. Now.
- 21:34Speaker 1: The only thing that scares me about Beckham, and I've
- 21:36Speaker 1: seen it time and time again, a player that's coming
- 21:39Speaker 1: off of two knee surgeries, plus he's had a long layoff.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I don't know what kind of football shape he's in.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Once they hit the field, sometimes they'll have a little
- 21:48Speaker 1: spark and then a week later they pull up blame
- 21:50Speaker 1: with a pull hamstring or something. And so I think,
- 21:54Speaker 1: you know, Beckham without question, if he's a dent and
- 21:57Speaker 1: if he's healthy, he can help that football team because
- 21:59Speaker 1: he can make plays. He's an outstanding player. Yeah, And
- 22:02Speaker 1: that's always the issue. People forget that Odell beck Come
- 22:05Speaker 1: Junior's knee injury happened at the Super Bowl was February
- 22:07Speaker 1: thirteen or nine months out. So it's one thing to
- 22:10Speaker 1: be back on the field. It's another thing to be
- 22:12Speaker 1: effective and remain effective obviously, But um, I don't know.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Jerry has been saying his name a lot, so I
- 22:17Speaker 1: kind of sort of think it's gonna happen. It keeps
- 22:19Speaker 1: him in the headlines. That's the one thing about Jerry.
- 22:22Speaker 1: He's gonna keep Dallas in the headline, which he does
- 22:24Speaker 1: an amazing job doing to his credits certainly, And you
- 22:26Speaker 1: build the brand. It's a great branded. He keeps the
- 22:28Speaker 1: brand going. I want to get back to your brand
- 22:30Speaker 1: here in the book, and again it's called swagger. You
- 22:33Speaker 1: tell a story from the night Draft, which I know
- 22:36Speaker 1: you've brought up before, but to see it on page
- 22:39Speaker 1: I think a lot of Dolphins fans Jimmy might say,
- 22:42Speaker 1: what if? And that story was in Archie Manning called
- 22:46Speaker 1: you ahead of the draft, and what did Archie say? Well,
- 22:50Speaker 1: Archie new, you know number one that I was willing
- 22:53Speaker 1: to trade. I mean, you know as much as anybody
- 22:56Speaker 1: in the league. You know, I would move around in
- 22:58Speaker 1: the draft, and you know we would try to get
- 23:01Speaker 1: value of players, and I wasn't afraid to go after somebody,
- 23:04Speaker 1: and he talked about, you know what or not I
- 23:06Speaker 1: could move up in the draft to get Peyton, and uh,
- 23:10Speaker 1: you know I looked at it, and the more you know,
- 23:14Speaker 1: investigated and checked out what we had, we just didn't
- 23:18Speaker 1: have enough ammunition to do it. Uh. And and you
- 23:21Speaker 1: know Peyton, because Dan, as great quarterback as Dan was,
- 23:25Speaker 1: Marino was, he was injured every single year that I
- 23:28Speaker 1: was with the Dolphins, and that hurt us. You know,
- 23:32Speaker 1: they had the achilles, had the knee, had the shoulder,
- 23:34Speaker 1: so he missed time every year. And so Dan would
- 23:37Speaker 1: have still been the quarterback while Peyton developed. But with
- 23:41Speaker 1: all of Dan's injuries, I'm sure Peyton would have gotten
- 23:44Speaker 1: some playing time and you know, things could have been
- 23:46Speaker 1: a little bit different. But I didn't have enough draft
- 23:49Speaker 1: picks to move up to get him. Yeah. Amazing, the
- 23:52Speaker 1: the idea of Dan Marino with Peyton Manning looking over
- 23:54Speaker 1: his shoulder. The irony, of course, is that you guys
- 23:56Speaker 1: played the Colts week one beat and Peyton had a
- 23:58Speaker 1: great game and the rest is history from there. Lots
- 24:01Speaker 1: of great history in this book as well. Jimmy Johnson's
- 24:03Speaker 1: new book Hall of Famage, which once his new book,
- 24:06Speaker 1: Swagger Coach. Good luck with this. It's a great read.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Great to have you on. Happy holidays. Thank you, Andrew,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I appreciate it. We have time for one more thing
- 24:13Speaker 1: before we go about Daniel Jones. Do not go anywhere
- 24:17Speaker 1: when the pluck you up the bone running. It's NFL Now,
- 24:24Speaker 1: with one last look at Lambeau, the tarpest still on
- 24:26Speaker 1: the field, a getting made, twenty some snow. The big
- 24:29Speaker 1: headline Josh Lambeau will kick tonight at Lambeau for the Titans.
- 24:34Speaker 1: There's also a pretty big game for both teams. Might
- 24:37Speaker 1: you have a Lambeau? Leave time for one more thing
- 24:39Speaker 1: before we go to Bautist. Take goes first. So on
- 24:42Speaker 1: inside the NFL. This week, NFL Films picked up se
- 24:45Speaker 1: Kuon Barkley, unveiling a new nickname for quarterback Daniel Jones.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Listen to this and I break along one big down
- 24:52Speaker 1: there all right, and all they beat that. I'm a
- 25:02Speaker 1: big papolo these international games. I was fortunate to play
- 25:05Speaker 1: in the first Cowboys gets the parents and talk to
- 25:08Speaker 1: Fred Warner last night. He's gonna be the forty Niners
- 25:11Speaker 1: in Mexico City. He can't wait to play in this game.
- 25:14Speaker 1: The fans around the world love American football. Let's serve
- 25:17Speaker 1: it to him up. Let's let's do the last of
- 25:20Speaker 1: five international games. I still have the s I cover
- 25:23Speaker 1: from that game in eighties six with the fridge, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 1: with the palace guards and the bobbies. Who was awesome,
- 25:28Speaker 1: James Palmer. One more thing, well, the doctor got resigned.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Today Laurent hubern A Tardi signs with the Jets, and
- 25:35Speaker 1: this reminded me of two Doubts and eight team when
- 25:37Speaker 1: he finished his medical degree. He wanted m D on
- 25:39Speaker 1: his jersey. The NFL would not allow. And I'm here
- 25:42Speaker 1: to push and say after he stepped away from the league,
- 25:45Speaker 1: helped fight COVID, help do his residency there, I'd like
- 25:48Speaker 1: to see m D on the rent ubern at tardifs
- 25:51Speaker 1: jersey with the Jet. I think to see that would
- 25:53Speaker 1: be I also might want to consult a doctor Lauren
- 25:57Speaker 1: Dberny tar D or whomever and asked him about the
- 26:00Speaker 1: validity of what Marlin Humphrey of The Ravens tweeted yesterday.
- 26:04Speaker 1: This is a real tweet. We love Marlon. Some of
- 26:07Speaker 1: his social posts are crazy, um and I mean that lovingly.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I see it on Instagram that if you're six, sleep
- 26:13Speaker 1: with an onion in your sock, and honestly I'm not sick.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I'm about to try it tonight and I'll give you
- 26:17Speaker 1: the update to Mark Marlon, what's the update? Is this real?
- 26:20Speaker 1: Has anyone ever heard of this? How do you get
- 26:23Speaker 1: an accurate update if I don't know? Like, has anyone
- 26:27Speaker 1: ever heard of sleeping with an onion in his sock? No? Why?
- 26:34Speaker 1: I don't get it? I don't Videos on the plane?
- 26:40Speaker 1: We love those, say you. NFL Now is a production
