Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Amy Torber and coming up on today's show, M. Davies'
- 0:13Speaker 1: filthy white couch. Taylor Swift puts on a show for
- 0:17Speaker 1: her London boys. Olivia Mathis is reunited with her Bengal
- 0:21Speaker 1: cat and Keep It Cleaners' divisive TikTok strategy. But first, officially, Sophie,
- 0:27Speaker 1: we are very excited aunties We have been holding on
- 0:31Speaker 1: to the news that Kate gave birth for a week.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It was extremely hard to record this podcast without spilling
- 0:38Speaker 1: the tea. I feel like some listeners could have picked
- 0:41Speaker 1: up on a few things we said last week. I
- 0:43Speaker 1: don't know. I feel like there were a few comments
- 0:44Speaker 1: about babies, like we had some sort of knowledge. Well,
- 0:46Speaker 1: more knowledge than you had the other week when you
- 0:48Speaker 1: didn't realise that babies drunk milk. Yes, it's been an
- 0:52Speaker 1: eye-opening experience. I have learned a lot so far. But yes,
- 0:55Speaker 1: Kate decided on the name Jack Edward. And I don't
- 0:59Speaker 1: think that podcast listeners will be surprised by that because
- 1:03Speaker 1: she is one for a traditional name. Yeah. So first
- 1:06Speaker 1: name Jack, middle name Edward, last name Turner. He does
- 1:09Speaker 1: have the initials Jet, which is pretty cool. That is
- 1:12Speaker 1: literally why her husband agreed to the name because he's like,
- 1:15Speaker 1: what cool initials. Imagine if he's a fantastic basketball player
- 1:20Speaker 1: and he's speedy across the court with the nickname jet
- 1:23Speaker 1: well we want to allow kate to actually fill listeners
- 1:26Speaker 1: in on the blow by blow probably in one of
- 1:28Speaker 1: our subscriber episodes potentially on wednesday if she feels up
- 1:32Speaker 1: to it but i feel like we need to fill
- 1:34Speaker 1: listeners in from our point of view because yeah she's
- 1:37Speaker 1: taken like a duck to water to motherhood She is
- 1:40Speaker 1: loving it. I said to her, oh, is it as
- 1:42Speaker 1: bad as everyone makes it out to be? And I mean,
- 1:44Speaker 1: putting into perspective, it is week one. A lot of
- 1:47Speaker 1: people say it takes two weeks for the child to
- 1:49Speaker 1: actually wake up and be aware of where they are.
- 1:51Speaker 1: But she said that she's loving it so far and
- 1:55Speaker 1: she's just loving getting to know her baby individually. He is,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I know we're biased. He is the most gorgeous baby
- 2:00Speaker 1: I have ever seen. Oh, he's so cute. He is adorable. Well,
- 2:04Speaker 1: everyone says that when you're a first time mom or dad,
- 2:07Speaker 1: when you see the child, you just instantly fall in
- 2:10Speaker 1: love with the baby. And I wondered what it would
- 2:12Speaker 1: be like for you and I being aunties and not
- 2:15Speaker 1: officially the mother, but as soon as I, well, as
- 2:18Speaker 1: in Kate keeps saying that genetically we're actually very close
- 2:21Speaker 1: to Jack, but When I walked in and I saw
- 2:23Speaker 1: him lying there, I just felt this instant surge of love.
- 2:29Speaker 1: My heart felt like it burst when I saw him.
- 2:32Speaker 1: He's just adorable. I was a little bit worried about
- 2:35Speaker 1: how Kate's Golden Retrievers would take to Jack. And it's
- 2:38Speaker 1: so funny. The other night we were over there and
- 2:41Speaker 1: Kate and Rhys were changing Jack and he started to cry.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And the look on the dog's faces, like they were shocked.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Your husband, Brandon, his face was even more shocked seeing
- 2:52Speaker 1: one Jack being changed and like the poo explosion and
- 2:55Speaker 1: then seeing him cry. It was actually so funny. I've
- 2:58Speaker 1: got a video of it. I almost wanted to put
- 2:59Speaker 1: it on TikTok and entitle it when two sets of
- 3:02Speaker 1: dinks see the reality of having a baby. Well, that's
- 3:06Speaker 1: because Jack is so placid and quiet. He's just this
- 3:10Speaker 1: perfect baby. He's happy to be passed from person to
- 3:14Speaker 1: person like He's so quiet. So it was the first
- 3:17Speaker 1: time that we saw him really cry. It's quite funny
- 3:20Speaker 1: because Kate did have a cesarean, so we all knew
- 3:23Speaker 1: when she was going to give birth. So literally there
- 3:26Speaker 1: were like 11 people in the waiting room for Kate.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You could tell it was the first baby. Yeah, I
- 3:32Speaker 1: think a lot of the nurses there were sort of like,
- 3:35Speaker 1: what the hell is going on? Because we consequently found
- 3:38Speaker 1: out that not many people do this. So we were
- 3:41Speaker 1: waiting for her to be wheeled out from– into the
- 3:44Speaker 1: recovery area. Well, we weren't waiting. We didn't know. They
- 3:46Speaker 1: just told us to wait in this area and then
- 3:48Speaker 1: we cottoned on quite quickly that they were wheeling out
- 3:50Speaker 1: a lot of the people who had had caesareans. So
- 3:54Speaker 1: we managed to be in the right spot at the
- 3:56Speaker 1: right time when they were wheeling Kate and Jack and
- 3:59Speaker 1: Rhys back through for observations. And, oh, my God, it
- 4:02Speaker 1: was the cutest thing I've ever seen. He was just
- 4:04Speaker 1: propped up on her, just gave us the funniest expression.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And poor Kate, though. She'd just come out of surgery. Like,
- 4:11Speaker 1: what the fuck is going on? Why are all of
- 4:13Speaker 1: these people– looking at me it was like she was
- 4:15Speaker 1: some celebrity who had been wheeled through she wouldn't have
- 4:18Speaker 1: expected any less like she knew how excited all of
- 4:20Speaker 1: the families were this is the first grandchild for both
- 4:23Speaker 1: reese's side and also her side so i think he's
- 4:26Speaker 1: going to be a very spoiled little boy let us
- 4:28Speaker 1: know if you do want to hear her on an
- 4:31Speaker 1: episode of the subs because i think that she's really
- 4:34Speaker 1: keen to tell her birth story maybe we'll put up
- 4:37Speaker 1: a question box that people can send in what they
- 4:40Speaker 1: want to know Here we go. Pivot. Pivot. Pivot. Perth
- 4:45Speaker 1: influencer Em Davies has set tongues wagging after listing her
- 4:48Speaker 1: filthy couch on Facebook Marketplace for $ 900. Super sleuths uncovered
- 4:54Speaker 1: the ad, which pictured a white linen sofa covered with
- 4:57Speaker 1: black stains. Now, so some followers were shocked by the
- 5:01Speaker 1: state of the couch. Look. The couch wasn't looking its best,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but Em was very honest in the ad about it.
- 5:07Speaker 1: She didn't try to conceal the marks. She did have
- 5:10Speaker 1: them on full display. In the description, she explained that
- 5:13Speaker 1: the marks would come out with professional cleaning. She is
- 5:17Speaker 1: just months away from giving birth, so you'd assume that
- 5:19Speaker 1: she's getting rid of this couch because she wants something
- 5:22Speaker 1: that's a bit more kid-friendly. And this couch is already
- 5:25Speaker 1: in a state after adults sitting on it. I can't
- 5:28Speaker 1: imagine what it would look like after a kid got
- 5:30Speaker 1: its sticky fingers or vomit all over it. When I
- 5:33Speaker 1: was looking for a new couch, my husband was like, no,
- 5:35Speaker 1: we can't get white. It's just going to get ruined.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And I'm always like, no, no, it will look fine.
- 5:41Speaker 1: But I think this is the reality of actually having
- 5:43Speaker 1: a white couch. Well, my husband and I have a
- 5:46Speaker 1: white couch, but it sort of has flecks of that
- 5:48Speaker 1: sandy color in it as well. But we just put
- 5:52Speaker 1: blankets over the top of it when we sit down
- 5:54Speaker 1: so that our dog doesn't get footprints on there, which
- 5:56Speaker 1: I suppose defeats the purpose of having a white couch,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but they just look so much chicer than gray couches. Yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 1: but this one is not looking very chic at the moment.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Do you think anyone will actually buy this? I mean,
- 6:07Speaker 1: could it be that there's an M Davies follower out
- 6:10Speaker 1: there that wants the grimy couch? I don't think she's
- 6:13Speaker 1: that well enough known to have fans want to purchase
- 6:17Speaker 1: this couch just because it belonged to her. I'm guessing
- 6:20Speaker 1: that because she's pregnant, she probably couldn't be bothered to
- 6:23Speaker 1: go and get it cleaned herself to just try and
- 6:25Speaker 1: get a couple of extra hundred dollars on Facebook Marketplace.
- 6:28Speaker 1: $ 900 though for a secondhand couch is very expensive. It's
- 6:33Speaker 1: the same with everything at the moment. Everything is costing
- 6:36Speaker 1: a fortune. Yeah, but not on Facebook Marketplace. I have
- 6:39Speaker 1: noticed I have been looking for secondhand furniture for my
- 6:42Speaker 1: mother-in-law to do up because she's amazing at upcycling furniture.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And it is ridiculous how much people are wanting at
- 6:49Speaker 1: the moment. At least Emma's being honest though, because I
- 6:52Speaker 1: remember a few years ago, Sarah's day got heavily criticized
- 6:56Speaker 1: when she advertised a rug, which retailed for $ 849. So
- 7:01Speaker 1: she posted the item to her Instagram account and described
- 7:04Speaker 1: it as being basically brand new. And this was despite
- 7:07Speaker 1: the fact that most of her followers knew she had
- 7:09Speaker 1: had it for three years. Yeah. And she said it
- 7:12Speaker 1: had only briefly been used in her son's Fox's bedroom.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It was quite funny at the time because the media
- 7:18Speaker 1: called Sarah a cheapskate influencer and questioned why someone worth
- 7:22Speaker 1: millions of dollars was trying to get as much as
- 7:25Speaker 1: she could for a secondhand rug. So I do think
- 7:28Speaker 1: that Em did the right thing in pointing out the
- 7:30Speaker 1: marks on this couch and also having those marks front
- 7:34Speaker 1: and centre in the photo. Meow. Meow. Doody. Meow. Doody.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Gold Coast influencer Olivia Mathis has been reunited with her
- 7:45Speaker 1: Bengal cat more than two months after it mysteriously disappeared. Sophie,
- 7:50Speaker 1: can you bring listeners up to speed? Well, back in May,
- 7:53Speaker 1: Olivia issued a desperate plea to anyone with information about
- 7:57Speaker 1: her Bengal cat, Hawkey, who she said had been stolen.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Olivia believed that her neighbours had something to do with
- 8:03Speaker 1: the disappearance because they were the first ones to raise
- 8:07Speaker 1: the alarm. They told her that Hawkey had been dropped
- 8:10Speaker 1: at the pound. So her neighbor's dad allegedly found Hawkey
- 8:14Speaker 1: wandering and decided to drop the pedigree cat at the pound,
- 8:17Speaker 1: which doesn't make any sense. It was all very odd
- 8:20Speaker 1: at the time, wasn't it? It was very suspicious. Now,
- 8:24Speaker 1: Olivia and her mom rushed down to the pound to
- 8:26Speaker 1: be told that no Bengal cat had ever been there.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And this led Olivia to confront her neighbors via text.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And this is where their story suddenly changed because the
- 8:36Speaker 1: neighbor alleged that her dad actually went to get the
- 8:39Speaker 1: cat out of the car. and it freaked out and escaped.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I think what made the disappearance so suspicious was the
- 8:46Speaker 1: fact that this is a purebred Bengal cat that went missing,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and they are in such high demand at the moment
- 8:51Speaker 1: and can fetch upwards of $ 2, 000. This was a story
- 8:55Speaker 1: that really scared a lot of pet owners because the
- 8:57Speaker 1: thought that someone could steal your cat and essentially get
- 9:00Speaker 1: away with it is terrifying. Now, Olivia ended up offering
- 9:03Speaker 1: a cash reward for anyone with verified information about the cat,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and she also enlisted a private investigator. Now, on Friday,
- 9:12Speaker 1: Olivia shared the heartwarming news that Hawkey was finally home.
- 9:17Speaker 1: She wrote, She's home. After two helpless months, a beautiful
- 9:20Speaker 1: couple not far from home posted about a Bengal cat
- 9:24Speaker 1: visiting frequently. The photo was undeniably Hawkey. We hit the
- 9:28Speaker 1: ground running over the last three days, walking the streets,
- 9:31Speaker 1: staking out the houses, clinging to new hope. Tonight, she
- 9:35Speaker 1: followed our voices and ran back to me. Turns out
- 9:38Speaker 1: the lady that spotted her was our kindy teacher and
- 9:40Speaker 1: the kind of soul you could imagine. A heartwarming coincidence
- 9:44Speaker 1: that made the reunion so much more surreal. She then
- 9:47Speaker 1: shared a video of Hawkey running into her arms and
- 9:50Speaker 1: crying out for her. This was really heartwarming because Hawkey
- 9:55Speaker 1: has been weighing heavily on my mind. I am a
- 9:57Speaker 1: cat lover and I just thought, wow, there's no way
- 10:00Speaker 1: way that she's getting this cat back. So what do
- 10:02Speaker 1: you think actually happened? Do you think that the neighbours,
- 10:05Speaker 1: if they did actually take the cat, they've just let
- 10:07Speaker 1: him loose? Yeah, it did lead to a lot of
- 10:09Speaker 1: questions as to whether Hawkey was taken by the neighbours
- 10:12Speaker 1: and then dumped nearby or did the cat run away?
- 10:15Speaker 1: There is no cold hard evidence to actually suggest Hawkey
- 10:19Speaker 1: the neighbours did anything apart from the bizarre text messages
- 10:23Speaker 1: that Olivia was showing. I just want to preface that
- 10:26Speaker 1: we don't actually have evidence to say that they stole Hawkey.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Olivia hasn't shed any more light on what she thinks happened,
- 10:35Speaker 1: but Bengals are known for having a bit of a
- 10:37Speaker 1: wild side to them. They are quite different to your
- 10:39Speaker 1: average cat. So once a Bengal gets a taste of
- 10:42Speaker 1: the outdoors, they are known for roaming. So it is
- 10:45Speaker 1: unclear what has happened. He hasn't roamed for two months
- 10:48Speaker 1: and not come home, especially because he ran into her arms.
- 10:52Speaker 1: There's obviously something that's happened. And I think that Olivia
- 10:57Speaker 1: doesn't want to say anymore. She's got her cat back.
- 11:00Speaker 1: She doesn't want to create any further fuss. And that's,
- 11:02Speaker 1: I suppose, the best outcome that could have happened. Don't
- 11:05Speaker 1: worry about it. At Kik, we've got over 110 Pilates classes.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Kik's TikTok strategy has been a hot topic of conversation
- 11:13Speaker 1: in our Facebook community. While some have praised the fitness
- 11:16Speaker 1: app founded by Steph Clare-Smith and Laura Henshaw for producing
- 11:20Speaker 1: engaging content aimed at Gen Zers, others have labelled the
- 11:23Speaker 1: strategy as a train wreck and the videos as cringe.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So for those who don't follow Kik's TikTok account, so
- 11:30Speaker 1: what kind of videos are they posting? Look, I'm not
- 11:33Speaker 1: a Gen Z-er, so maybe this isn't aimed at me,
- 11:35Speaker 1: but they're posting a lot of those trending sound videos
- 11:39Speaker 1: where they and their work colleagues mime to a whole
- 11:41Speaker 1: bunch of cringy sounds. And then they're doing a lot
- 11:44Speaker 1: of those transitional videos. And It's just really finding a
- 11:48Speaker 1: trend and then copying it or redoing the trend. They're
- 11:52Speaker 1: not really videos that are specific to them. It's clear
- 11:55Speaker 1: that they're wanting to garner as many views and new
- 11:58Speaker 1: eyeballs as they can. Yeah. They're jumping on a lot
- 12:00Speaker 1: of trends and some people have said it's cringe. Do
- 12:03Speaker 1: you think it's cringe? The general vibe I get from
- 12:05Speaker 1: these videos are that it's millennials who are trying to
- 12:08Speaker 1: fit in with Gen Zers and They're trying to jump
- 12:11Speaker 1: on board these viral trends, but I actually think a
- 12:13Speaker 1: lot of Gen Zers would roll their eyes at these videos. Yeah,
- 12:16Speaker 1: but a lot of their marketing team are Gen Zers
- 12:18Speaker 1: and that's where the ideas are coming from. I actually
- 12:21Speaker 1: think they're doing a good job. They're obviously trying to
- 12:23Speaker 1: target that market. Yeah, but are they ostracizing their other audience?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Because I did read in our Facebook community that some
- 12:31Speaker 1: people are, is it rage viewing these videos and that
- 12:35Speaker 1: they're They're saying that they're rage baiting by sharing videos.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Rage baiting, sorry. And it's probably leading some people to
- 12:41Speaker 1: unfollow the account. Steph and Laura have said in previous
- 12:44Speaker 1: interviews that 90% of their app downloads are from organic
- 12:48Speaker 1: channels while their competitors rely heavily on paid marketing. I mean,
- 12:52Speaker 1: that's not particularly surprising considering that Steph Clare-Smith has over
- 12:55Speaker 1: 1 million followers. Yeah. It's interesting to see if that
- 12:58Speaker 1: is coming from their own accounts or whether that is
- 13:01Speaker 1: coming from Kik social media channels. Yeah, well, I mean,
- 13:04Speaker 1: if you look at Steph and Laura's followers, the majority
- 13:07Speaker 1: would be millennials. So it's clear they're trying to push
- 13:09Speaker 1: for this new wave of Kik subscribers with this style
- 13:12Speaker 1: of content. My fear, though, is what these kind of
- 13:15Speaker 1: videos do for overall branding. So while I can see
- 13:18Speaker 1: they're trying to appeal to the Gen Z-ers, It does
- 13:21Speaker 1: come across like they're chasing trends just to get quick
- 13:24Speaker 1: likes and views. And you don't get a real sense
- 13:26Speaker 1: of Laura and Steph's personalities, which I think is a
- 13:29Speaker 1: huge selling point for them. It's a hard one because
- 13:32Speaker 1: as a publicist, we do give advice on social media.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And I have said to my clients in the past
- 13:37Speaker 1: that you have to have a completely different content strategy
- 13:39Speaker 1: for TikTok as you have to do for Instagram or Facebook. However,
- 13:45Speaker 1: in this case, I don't think that these videos are
- 13:48Speaker 1: meeting up with their overall audience. brand messaging and brand voice.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I actually think it's doing them more damage than good
- 13:56Speaker 1: because as we touched on, they think that people think
- 13:59Speaker 1: there's a lot of rage baiting going on, which will
- 14:01Speaker 1: lead people to unfollow. And I understand that you're wanting
- 14:05Speaker 1: to reach out to a new demographic, but I actually
- 14:08Speaker 1: don't think that these videos are successful in doing that
- 14:11Speaker 1: because I also think Gen Zers are probably getting the
- 14:13Speaker 1: ick from them. See, I disagree with you because I
- 14:16Speaker 1: think if you look at a lot of their new strategies,
- 14:18Speaker 1: for instance, TikTok and even their podcast, come down to
- 14:22Speaker 1: the fact that Kik has set its sights on expanding globally.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So they currently have a lot of eyeballs on what
- 14:28Speaker 1: they're doing. And there would be a lot of interest
- 14:30Speaker 1: in how many followers they have on TikTok, how many
- 14:33Speaker 1: podcast subscribers they have. So I don't think they really
- 14:36Speaker 1: care how they're getting people to listen to them, whether
- 14:39Speaker 1: it be on TikTok or on their podcast. I mean,
- 14:41Speaker 1: they've copped flack in the past before for sharing way
- 14:44Speaker 1: too much information on their podcast, but it's clearly working
- 14:48Speaker 1: for them because Laura spoke to the Financial Review last
- 14:51Speaker 1: year about how they were testing the UK market for
- 14:54Speaker 1: capital raising. And she was open about how she and
- 14:57Speaker 1: Steph had traveled to the UK to get a better
- 14:59Speaker 1: feel for the market. And interestingly, she said that their podcast,
- 15:03Speaker 1: The Kick Pod, had played a major role in their
- 15:06Speaker 1: UK expansion plans. So she said the plan was to
- 15:09Speaker 1: grow their UK listenership substantially. And they were able to
- 15:13Speaker 1: do this by interviewing well-known UK identities who then shared
- 15:17Speaker 1: to their followers that they were on the podcast. And
- 15:19Speaker 1: in February, they reported that their subscriptions on their kick
- 15:24Speaker 1: app had gone up by 19%. So this incidental marketing
- 15:28Speaker 1: through the kick pod has actually resulted in greater revenue
- 15:32Speaker 1: numbers for them on their app. One thing I think
- 15:35Speaker 1: they do do very well is the small reels and
- 15:38Speaker 1: TikToks that they produce from clips of the podcast, because
- 15:41Speaker 1: they're edited in such a way that you're left wanting
- 15:44Speaker 1: to find out more and you're intrigued by the statement
- 15:48Speaker 1: or question that they've put out there. So I actually
- 15:50Speaker 1: think that sort of content is great for their brand,
- 15:54Speaker 1: great for their key messaging, And it positions Steph and
- 15:57Speaker 1: Laura as fun business women, not necessarily these cringe influencers
- 16:05Speaker 1: who are jumping on every trend. I think it's about
- 16:07Speaker 1: having a mix of videos. So they can have some
- 16:10Speaker 1: of these cringe Gen Z aimed videos, but they need
- 16:12Speaker 1: to mix it, as you said, with other kinds of content.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I mean, a lot of their business is revolved around food.
- 16:18Speaker 1: They share a lot of recipes. They sell a lot
- 16:20Speaker 1: of food in supermarkets. I would be pushing for some
- 16:23Speaker 1: more recipe videos. They're huge on TikTok at the moment.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I think what's evident is that Steph and Laura are
- 16:30Speaker 1: smart and they know that they were able to launch
- 16:32Speaker 1: Kik back in 2015 because of how popular they both
- 16:36Speaker 1: were on social media. So obviously TikTok is incredibly important
- 16:40Speaker 1: to them and they will be looking at their numbers
- 16:42Speaker 1: very closely. I also wonder whether they're gearing up to
- 16:46Speaker 1: sell Kik because it sounds like Steph and Laura are
- 16:49Speaker 1: making a conscious effort to step back from being 100%
- 16:53Speaker 1: front-facing when it comes to the Kik app. So even
- 16:57Speaker 1: in some of Kik's TikTok videos, you'll see staff members
- 17:00Speaker 1: who are the focus. And Steph told Forbes magazine in
- 17:03Speaker 1: March this year that they are now only in about 25%
- 17:06Speaker 1: of Kik's current content on the app, and it has
- 17:09Speaker 1: not affected the completion of workouts or engagement. I know
- 17:13Speaker 1: when Kayla was gearing up to sell the Sweat app,
- 17:16Speaker 1: which she did subsequently buy back, there was a big
- 17:19Speaker 1: push to bring in other trainers to make it more
- 17:21Speaker 1: appealing to potential buyers. I know there is a view
- 17:25Speaker 1: that it's risky to buy a business that relies so
- 17:27Speaker 1: heavily on the sole branding of the founders. We saw
- 17:30Speaker 1: Sam Wood sell his app for $ 71 million a few
- 17:34Speaker 1: years ago. So there would be huge demand for an
- 17:37Speaker 1: app like Kick. Yeah, well, Laura told the Financial Review
- 17:40Speaker 1: in January of 2023 that that they know in order
- 17:43Speaker 1: to build a sustainable business that could scale globally, they
- 17:46Speaker 1: need to diversify the product away from them. So it's
- 17:49Speaker 1: going to be very interesting to see what the future
- 17:52Speaker 1: holds for Kik over the next couple of years. He
- 17:54Speaker 1: kind of pointed to Prince William and said something like,
- 17:58Speaker 1: I hear you like to do this at karaoke night,
- 18:00Speaker 1: karaoke boy. Taylor Swift has stunned fans on the London
- 18:04Speaker 1: leg of her era's tour with a surprise performance by
- 18:07Speaker 1: her NFL star boyfriend, Travis Kelsey. Swifties are dubbing the
- 18:12Speaker 1: singer the Queen of Revenge with the move taking place
- 18:15Speaker 1: on her ex's home soil. This moment caught so many
- 18:19Speaker 1: Swifties off guard. No one was expecting Travis to make
- 18:22Speaker 1: an appearance on stage, and he has been known to
- 18:25Speaker 1: take on the role of the supportive boyfriend being heavily
- 18:28Speaker 1: praised for singing and dancing in the crowd, which is
- 18:31Speaker 1: in direct contrast to her ex, Jo Olwen, who rarely
- 18:35Speaker 1: came to any of her shows and kept a very
- 18:37Speaker 1: low profile. However, I don't think that anyone was prepared
- 18:41Speaker 1: to have him appear on stage dressed in a top
- 18:44Speaker 1: hat and tails as a backup dancer. It just didn't
- 18:47Speaker 1: seem real. I saw it. Kate forwarded it to me
- 18:50Speaker 1: because she has been up in the early hours of
- 18:52Speaker 1: the morning feeding little baby Jack. And I was like,
- 18:55Speaker 1: my jaw just hit the floor when I opened it.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I was like, no way. For those who haven't seen
- 19:00Speaker 1: the clip, Travis joins Taylor on stage for the transition
- 19:04Speaker 1: into her new hit song, I Can Do It With
- 19:06Speaker 1: A Broken Heart. And this song is all about her
- 19:09Speaker 1: being heartbroken whilst on tour. So this was after her
- 19:13Speaker 1: situation ship, Matt Healy, just ghosted her. And the song
- 19:18Speaker 1: coincidentally follows the smallest man who ever lived, which is
- 19:21Speaker 1: also about Matt Healy. By the end of the song,
- 19:24Speaker 1: Taylor has collapsed on the floor and her backup dancers
- 19:27Speaker 1: have to scoop her up and carry her onto a couch.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And they prop her up like a puppet to get
- 19:32Speaker 1: her changed into her next outfit. And she looks really terrified.
- 19:36Speaker 1: while they have to encourage her to go on stage.
- 19:39Speaker 1: So basically, Travis took on the role of one of
- 19:42Speaker 1: these backup dancers. And it's so symbolic to have Travis
- 19:45Speaker 1: there because many fans say that he brought her back
- 19:49Speaker 1: to life and helped her. mend her broken heart. I
- 19:51Speaker 1: saw a meme on Instagram and it was one of
- 19:53Speaker 1: those ones how it started and how it's going now
- 19:56Speaker 1: and it was comparing the fact that Travis, less than
- 19:59Speaker 1: a year ago, was making friendship bracelets to go to
- 20:01Speaker 1: Taylor Swift's concert. And now he's literally performing in one
- 20:05Speaker 1: of her biggest songs. And he has songs written about him. Yeah.
- 20:08Speaker 1: It's just crazy. Many fans actually thought that he was
- 20:11Speaker 1: going up on stage to propose to her. Sadly, this
- 20:15Speaker 1: didn't happen. But many are thinking that this kind of
- 20:18Speaker 1: stunt means that a proposal isn't far away. Because, I mean,
- 20:22Speaker 1: this is soulmate sort of shit. Like, you don't just
- 20:25Speaker 1: bring up some guy you're casually dating. and put him
- 20:28Speaker 1: on stage for the rest of the world to see.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I think that an engagement is happening. Maybe it'll happen
- 20:34Speaker 1: on their one-year anniversary, which is fast approaching. I don't
- 20:37Speaker 1: think Travis is ever going to propose in public or
- 20:39Speaker 1: on stage. It would be a private affair. But it's
- 20:43Speaker 1: a huge move, as you said, for Taylor to have
- 20:45Speaker 1: Travis come up on stage. We haven't seen something like
- 20:48Speaker 1: this before with any of her other past boyfriends. What
- 20:51Speaker 1: I really love about this stunt is that it cements
- 20:54Speaker 1: that Taylor is the queen of revenge. Even though she
- 20:57Speaker 1: is so famous and so popular, she's petty like the
- 21:01Speaker 1: rest of us because she has such a long history
- 21:03Speaker 1: with London. The city has been a huge part of
- 21:05Speaker 1: her life. Not only has she lived there and recorded
- 21:08Speaker 1: music there, but she's had several serious relationships with London boys.
- 21:12Speaker 1: So That's been Harry Styles, Tom Hiddleston, Joe Olwen and
- 21:16Speaker 1: also Matt Healy. So it's quite clear that she loves
- 21:18Speaker 1: an English accent. She loves the London boy. Yes, that
- 21:21Speaker 1: song that we probably will never, ever hear live again.
- 21:24Speaker 1: On her most recent album, she had a song seemingly
- 21:28Speaker 1: saying goodbye to London. But to me, it seems like
- 21:31Speaker 1: she is trying to reclaim this city and make new
- 21:34Speaker 1: memories there with Travis. And what a master move is
- 21:38Speaker 1: it to break up with Joe Olwen and Then the
- 21:41Speaker 1: next time you're in London, you bring your new golden
- 21:43Speaker 1: retriever boyfriend that everyone's obsessed with up on stage to
- 21:47Speaker 1: prove that you can be Taylor Swift's boyfriend and proudly
- 21:51Speaker 1: support her. It might also have something to do with
- 21:53Speaker 1: the fact that Joe Olwen was recently interviewed by the
- 21:57Speaker 1: Sunday Times and it was the first time he's actually
- 21:59Speaker 1: spoken out since his breakup with Taylor Swift. He didn't
- 22:03Speaker 1: say anything too juicy, but some people have been reading
- 22:07Speaker 1: into the timelines he discussed and Yeah, because people were
- 22:10Speaker 1: reading into it that the breakup happened only a week
- 22:15Speaker 1: before it was made public. So that was around June
- 22:18Speaker 1: or July last year. And Taylor's people were kind of
- 22:22Speaker 1: trying to put it out there saying that the breakup
- 22:24Speaker 1: happened months before in February. Yeah, so there's some rumors
- 22:27Speaker 1: going around and people are saying, well, maybe there was
- 22:29Speaker 1: potentially a crossover with Matt Healy. We don't know. All
- 22:33Speaker 1: I know is whatever Taylor says, I'm taking that on
- 22:37Speaker 1: face value. Yeah. Well, also, whilst in London, Taylor has
- 22:41Speaker 1: gone Instagram official with Travis. I mean, everyone knows that
- 22:45Speaker 1: they're official and that they're together, but this is the
- 22:48Speaker 1: first time she has posted about him. And also the
- 22:52Speaker 1: first time that she's posted about a boyfriend in quite
- 22:54Speaker 1: some time. I think the last boyfriend she posted about
- 22:57Speaker 1: was Calvin Harris. What did she post? Well, this isn't
- 23:00Speaker 1: your regular hard launch because it included none other than
- 23:04Speaker 1: two future kings of England and a princess. So- Prince
- 23:08Speaker 1: William celebrated his 42nd birthday by bringing Charlotte and George
- 23:13Speaker 1: to the opening night of Taylor's era's tour. So it
- 23:17Speaker 1: is quite clear that the royal family are big fans
- 23:19Speaker 1: of Taylor Swift because on their official ex account, they
- 23:22Speaker 1: posted a video of the British army performing a rendition
- 23:26Speaker 1: of Taylor Swift's Shake It Off during the changing of
- 23:29Speaker 1: guards at Buckingham Palace. Let's throw to a clip. MUSIC
- 23:39Speaker 1: They captioned the post, can't stop, won't stop grooving. This
- 23:43Speaker 1: is iconic from their social media team. Yeah, their social
- 23:46Speaker 1: media team does a really good job. I've often thought,
- 23:48Speaker 1: what must it be like to be their videographer? It'd
- 23:51Speaker 1: be a pretty cool gig. Not so surprisingly, Prince William
- 23:54Speaker 1: and the kids didn't sit in the VIP tent. They
- 23:57Speaker 1: had their own private box. But the VIP tent has
- 24:00Speaker 1: seen some action over the past few days, with Sir
- 24:03Speaker 1: Paul McCartney being spotted in there, as well as Tom Cruise,
- 24:07Speaker 1: Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Hugh Grant. Yeah, and while
- 24:10Speaker 1: Taylor doesn't always have time to do meet and greets
- 24:13Speaker 1: with famous fans before or after the shows, as Travis
- 24:16Speaker 1: Kelsey learned the hard way, she did make an exception
- 24:19Speaker 1: for the royal family. And many fans felt like they'd
- 24:22Speaker 1: stepped into some bizarre alternate universe. When William posted a
- 24:27Speaker 1: photo to his official Instagram account of him and the
- 24:30Speaker 1: kids with Taylor, he captioned the photo with, Thank you,
- 24:33Speaker 1: Taylor Swift, for a great evening. Hashtag London TS, the
- 24:37Speaker 1: era's tour. Now, shortly after, Taylor backed it up, sharing
- 24:41Speaker 1: a selfie with William Charlotte George and also Travis Kelsey
- 24:45Speaker 1: and wrote, Happy B-Day, mate. I must preface that Taylor
- 24:49Speaker 1: spelt mate in a very old school millennial way with
- 24:53Speaker 1: an M and an 8. And she continued writing, London
- 24:56Speaker 1: shows are off to a splendid start. and did an
- 24:59Speaker 1: English and American flag with a shaking hand emoji after it. Well,
- 25:03Speaker 1: when I saw the photo at first, I thought, is
- 25:06Speaker 1: that a wax figure of Taylor Swift? Like, it was
- 25:08Speaker 1: very confusing. It was very Madame Tussauds looking, wasn't it?
- 25:12Speaker 1: In the photo, Taylor was dressed in her black sparkly
- 25:15Speaker 1: blazer dress that she wears during her performance of The Man.
- 25:19Speaker 1: which is in contrast to what she usually wears behind
- 25:21Speaker 1: the scenes. She's usually in her sparkly leotard, but I'm
- 25:24Speaker 1: guessing that the royal aides requested a more conservative outfit
- 25:28Speaker 1: for her to be around the royals in. It reminds
- 25:31Speaker 1: me of that time the Princess Diana went to a
- 25:33Speaker 1: Michael Jackson concert and he's got a song, Dirty Diana.
- 25:37Speaker 1: and they specifically removed it from the concert because they thought, oh,
- 25:40Speaker 1: this might be a bit awkward. And apparently Diana told
- 25:43Speaker 1: Michael Jackson after the show that she was really disappointed
- 25:45Speaker 1: because it was her favorite song. Prince William seemed to
- 25:49Speaker 1: steal the viral moment because he made a bit of
- 25:51Speaker 1: a spectacle of himself. During Shake It Off, a fan
- 25:54Speaker 1: panned up to catch William in the stands, and he
- 25:58Speaker 1: was doing the daggiest dad dance to Shake It Off.
- 26:01Speaker 1: He was dancing like nobody was watching him. And it
- 26:04Speaker 1: looked like he was having the time of his life.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I was very happy for him. Yeah, I did enjoy
- 26:08Speaker 1: seeing that. I mean, he's been caught out a couple
- 26:10Speaker 1: of times dancing in a daggy fashion. It is very
- 26:13Speaker 1: Prince William. I just kept thinking the whole time, I
- 26:16Speaker 1: wonder if Harry is really jealous because in his tell-all
- 26:19Speaker 1: interview with Meghan Markle, he spoke about how much he
- 26:23Speaker 1: loved the Reputation album, especially Look What You Made Me Do.
- 26:27Speaker 1: And I just thought, oh, I would have loved to
- 26:28Speaker 1: have seen Harry backstage meeting her too. Well, some fans
- 26:31Speaker 1: have speculated that Taylor and William's posts were throwing shade
- 26:35Speaker 1: at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. So Meghan has previously
- 26:38Speaker 1: attended one of Taylor's LA shows, but she didn't appear
- 26:42Speaker 1: to be sitting in the VIP section. And there were
- 26:44Speaker 1: no photos of her with Taylor after the performance. Now,
- 26:48Speaker 1: Taylor also allegedly declined to appear on Meghan's Archetypes podcast,
- 26:53Speaker 1: which led many to believe that she was taking sides
- 26:56Speaker 1: with the royal family. Yeah, but I don't even think
- 26:58Speaker 1: there's been one podcast that Taylor Swift's been on. Well, no,
- 27:01Speaker 1: but I think it's clear that Taylor would want to
- 27:04Speaker 1: keep the British royal family happy. One Royal fan wrote
- 27:08Speaker 1: on X, oh man, the shade to not only Meghan
- 27:11Speaker 1: and Harry, but also her ex London boy, Bravo, Taylor
- 27:14Speaker 1: Swift and Prince William. Whilst another said, you never saw
- 27:17Speaker 1: Harry and Meghan get that close to Taylor Swift. Thank
- 27:20Speaker 1: you for choosing the right side, Taylor. This is such
- 27:23Speaker 1: a huge win for the Royal family because last year
- 27:26Speaker 1: it was widely publicized that King Charles struggled to get
- 27:30Speaker 1: any homegrown acts to perform at the concert. So he
- 27:33Speaker 1: had reached out to Harry Styles, Adele, Robbie Williams, Elton John,
- 27:38Speaker 1: and even the Spice Girls, and they all reportedly refused
- 27:41Speaker 1: to be part of the ceremony. So what you're saying
- 27:43Speaker 1: is that when we finally have a King William, there's
- 27:45Speaker 1: going to be a pretty good concert. Taylor Swift will
- 27:47Speaker 1: definitely be in attendance. I wonder if this is a
- 27:50Speaker 1: new PR strategy from Prince William's team, because since Kate
- 27:54Speaker 1: Middleton made her first public appearance last week amid her
- 27:57Speaker 1: cancer battle, They appear to be sharing more behind the
- 28:00Speaker 1: scenes style photos, which make the family look more relatable
- 28:04Speaker 1: and normal. So on the couple's official Instagram account, they
- 28:08Speaker 1: shared a very cute photo of William and the kids
- 28:11Speaker 1: at the beach. And William and the kids are midair
- 28:14Speaker 1: jumping over sand dunes. I mean, you even commented to
- 28:17Speaker 1: me saying, I can't believe they're allowed to share this photo. Yeah,
- 28:20Speaker 1: I was really surprised when I saw it. I just
- 28:22Speaker 1: kept thinking, where did they land? Like on the sand?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Was that a heavy fall? I suppose because Kate is
- 28:28Speaker 1: now the official photographer for them and it just makes
- 28:32Speaker 1: him look like a fun hands-on dad. I think it's
- 28:34Speaker 1: also been very clever because everyone is Forgetting the narrative
- 28:39Speaker 1: that Prince Harry has built on William being this aggressive
- 28:44Speaker 1: guy who had a punch up with him. He's a
- 28:46Speaker 1: Taylor Swift. Yeah, he's this loving, daggy dad that's dancing
- 28:50Speaker 1: in the crowd, that loves jumping on sand dunes with
- 28:52Speaker 1: his kids. That is the recent PR push with Prince William.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And with Taylor Swift now seen to be endorsing him,
- 28:57Speaker 1: it is a major win for the British royal family. Well,
- 29:00Speaker 1: I think that's all we've got time for today. Thank
- 29:02Speaker 1: you so much for listening to another episode of Outspoken.
- 29:06Speaker 1: If you did enjoy the show and you haven't left
- 29:08Speaker 1: a review already, we'd love if you could because we
- 29:11Speaker 1: need some five-star reviews there. It does help us out.

- 29:23Speaker 1: There's a lot of baby spam going on at the moment.
- 29:25Speaker 1: There is. This episode was recorded on the traditional land

- 29:31Speaker 1: respect to elders past and present.
