- 1:10Speaker 2: I was thinking about Instagram and a project I want
- 1:14Speaker 2: to do. This is new news for Megan. A kind
- 1:18Speaker 2: of interactive fun Hallmark esque. No, no, just something fun
- 1:25Speaker 2: for Instagram that's gonna do with the dudes of Hallmark. Okay,
- 1:30Speaker 2: coming soon, guys, follow us on Instagram.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm excited to see what this new project is.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I mean, it's gonna be very interactive. So you guys
- 1:39Speaker 2: are gonna want to weigh in if you have any
- 1:41Speaker 2: thoughts at all about our leading men on the Hallmark Channel.
- 1:49Speaker 1: This week, we're talking The Wedding Veil and Wendy, do
- 1:51Speaker 1: you have a synopsis?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Sure do. The Wedding Veil starring Lacey Schuber see I
- 2:00Speaker 2: love her so much and her name just it is
- 2:04Speaker 2: spelled c ha So I go shah bert b e
- 2:08Speaker 2: r d. What is it shabt? I need to spell
- 2:14Speaker 2: it c h A b e a r Sebert, Sorry,
- 2:20Speaker 2: Lady Shabert. Kevin McGary, Autumn Reeser, and Allison Sweeney. The
- 2:26Speaker 2: first installment of a new trilogy follows three longtime college
- 2:30Speaker 2: friends who discover a mysterious antique veil fabled to unite
- 2:35Speaker 2: it's bearer with their truth love.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Some news and notes on this movie. Wendy just mentioned
- 2:42Speaker 1: that it's a trilogy. The final two movies in the
- 2:44Speaker 1: trilogy will air in a Love youary part of February's lineup.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I don't fully understand why they made that choice so dumb.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Why not? Oh, I'm super annoyed by it because they're
- 2:58Speaker 2: re airing the first one the first weekend of February,
- 3:01Speaker 2: so they should have just pushed it off. God call
- 3:04Speaker 2: us Hallmark, we have ideas.
- 3:06Speaker 1: All I can think is that they perhaps didn't finish
- 3:09Speaker 1: one of their New Year New Movies in time, because
- 3:12Speaker 1: I did see a promo that said all three movies
- 3:15Speaker 1: airing premiering in February, so I think originally their plan
- 3:21Speaker 1: was to air them.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Back to back. H Well, they screwed the pooch somewhere. Sorry,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I don't know. Okay, let's hit some news and notes.
- 3:32Speaker 2: What else do you got? Hey?
- 3:33Speaker 1: This was based on a book called There Goes the Bride,
- 3:36Speaker 1: which is book one in the Wedding Veil Wishes series.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Did you happen to find this book on Amazon?
- 3:43Speaker 2: I did? Oh, I was.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Gonna send you the photo right now.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I have it all cued up.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'm ready to go.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I did. Well, we'll put it in the show notes.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I did do a little deep dive and found the
- 3:53Speaker 2: Long Tall Texan, which is the title this book now
- 3:57Speaker 2: goes by, which is weird, Like, have you ever I've
- 4:00Speaker 2: known them to change a title of a book.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I don't know, but it has a shirtless cowboy on
- 4:08Speaker 1: the cover, which leads me to believe that the book
- 4:10Speaker 1: is perhaps slightly racier than the movie adaptation.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I think I read the synopsis of the book and
- 4:18Speaker 2: it has like zero zero like anything to do with
- 4:23Speaker 2: like the movie I watch. So I don't know what
- 4:27Speaker 2: exactly was it adapted unless there was just a veil
- 4:31Speaker 2: in that book.
- 4:32Speaker 1: They're like we got rides, they all use the same veil. Boom,
- 4:34Speaker 1: we got a movie.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So weird, it's so weird. Yes, I have linked at
- 4:41Speaker 2: the book by Lori Wilde in our show notes the
- 4:44Speaker 2: Long Tall Tics, and yeah, there are like a harlequin
- 4:48Speaker 2: romance books.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna call them, that's what they appear to be.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it was filmed in April and May twenty twenty
- 4:54Speaker 1: one in British Columbia. And we couldn't have quite the
- 4:58Speaker 1: tight turnaround on these because we to have three movies
- 5:01Speaker 1: completed before they could show one.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's for sure. I also read to that autumn.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Resar wrote on her Instagram that she had signed on
- 5:10Speaker 2: to this movie two days before the world shutdown due
- 5:14Speaker 2: to the pandemic. Oh so it was originally to be
- 5:17Speaker 2: filmed in April twenty twenty, and then that got bumped
- 5:20Speaker 2: a whole full year.
- 5:23Speaker 1: So yeah, all right, I have two questions for you.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 1: The first is, does the Hallmark's dedication to diversity seem
- 5:35Speaker 1: to disappear outside of the countdown to Christmas season?
- 5:39Speaker 2: Oh, that's a good question. I'm trying to be Okay,
- 5:44Speaker 2: there's only been two new movies this year. I'm gonna
- 5:48Speaker 2: say yes.
- 5:49Speaker 1: If you look simply at the posters for New Year
- 5:53Speaker 1: New Movies, we only have one featuring an actress of color,
- 5:59Speaker 1: and that is Nosnene Contractor and the Perfect pairing. The
- 6:02Speaker 1: other five are white, white, and whiter.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah. I was trying to even think about the one
- 6:07Speaker 2: that was on Movies and Mysteries this weekend, and I
- 6:10Speaker 2: believe it's also a diverse less cast.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yes, food for that Hallmark. I know that's when they
- 6:18Speaker 1: get the majority of their press and the majority of
- 6:21Speaker 1: their views, and so they put all their good stuff there.
- 6:23Speaker 1: But you've got viewers the rest of the year. Let's
- 6:28Speaker 1: you have a responsibility the other ten months out of
- 6:30Speaker 1: the year.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Paul Campbell, where are you?
- 6:33Speaker 1: I have another question? Yeah, how do we feel about
- 6:37Speaker 1: these January movies not being wintery at all? Uh?
- 6:41Speaker 2: It doesn't bother me, Like I don't. I am so
- 6:45Speaker 2: sick of wintery things anyway at this point, so I
- 6:48Speaker 2: don't care. And it's smart on Hallmark to have a
- 6:52Speaker 2: like non wintery type movie because then they can play
- 6:55Speaker 2: it all year long.
- 6:56Speaker 1: One hundred percent agree. And I think it was a
- 6:58Speaker 1: smart move to change the name of this series of
- 7:01Speaker 1: movies from Winterfest to New Year New Movies. That leaves
- 7:04Speaker 1: them wide open. I recall last year as we watched these,
- 7:08Speaker 1: we were just so tired of the snow. There was
- 7:11Speaker 1: just snow, snow, snow, snow, snow. And I agree these
- 7:15Speaker 1: are pretty timeless the movies that we've seen so.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Far, timeless and meaning that they can be shown at
- 7:23Speaker 2: any timeless I should say, not timeless as in like
- 7:27Speaker 2: the best thing ever. Yeah. I did see a preview
- 7:33Speaker 2: for the Perfect Pairing written by front of the show
- 7:36Speaker 2: Julie Sherman Wolf and I saw some digital snow, so
- 7:40Speaker 2: that one has some snow in it. Yeah, and then
- 7:42Speaker 2: the preview, doesn't she slip on some ice and smackerhead.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't realize that was written by Julie Sherman Wolf.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I am all of a sudden very excited for that movie.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, I'm I'm That's one of the ones I'm
- 7:54Speaker 2: really looking forward to, just because I like Brendan Elliott,
- 7:56Speaker 2: and I like the writer, and I like nas Nazanine Contractor.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Yeah, she's very pretty coming.
- 8:04Speaker 2: She was good in that other. She was in a
- 8:08Speaker 2: movie last year at this time. I don't remember what
- 8:10Speaker 2: it was. They were in some snowy place. I liked
- 8:14Speaker 2: her as an actress. I have a couple more little
- 8:16Speaker 2: news and notes. Lazy Shaber served as one of the
- 8:20Speaker 2: film's executive producers. Go did we know that? Go Lazy,
- 8:24Speaker 2: Go Lacy, and she told Good Housekeeping in April twenty
- 8:27Speaker 2: twenty one that working with Autumn Reeser and Alison Sweeney
- 8:31Speaker 2: was a dream come true.
- 8:34Speaker 1: That's fun.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I know, I think so too.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Oh my god, are you ready for first impressions?
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yes, I am, you can go first, Okay.
- 8:44Speaker 1: My first impression is that this was a solid start
- 8:47Speaker 1: to the trilogy, and I'm looking forward to the next two.
- 8:51Speaker 2: That's hi praise. Oh no, my first impression was give
- 8:57Speaker 2: me more girlfriend movies. Yeah, don't you think so? Don't
- 9:02Speaker 2: you think? Like? Okay, we get it. Homewark has the
- 9:06Speaker 2: love story movie, the same thing, week after a week
- 9:09Speaker 2: after a week after a week. Give us some girl
- 9:12Speaker 2: friend movies. That's who's watching these movies, right, women. I'm
- 9:16Speaker 2: gonna guess. I mean, I don't know the demographics, but
- 9:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna guess it's mostly women. Don't they want to
- 9:23Speaker 2: watch things.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Other than just like typical guy and girl fall in love. Well,
- 9:29Speaker 1: we're on the same page because my first like is
- 9:32Speaker 1: I like more of these crossover event movies where the
- 9:35Speaker 1: leading actors get to work together a la sister swap.
- 9:38Speaker 1: We rarely see these movies where you're gonna get an
- 9:42Speaker 1: Ali Sweeney and the Lazy Shaver in the same film
- 9:44Speaker 1: because they want to be top dog. But by doing
- 9:47Speaker 1: these movies, maybe that's a Hallmark's concession to that they're
- 9:52Speaker 1: not willing to lose the I need a happy ending.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I'm okay with these crossover event movies if it means
- 9:59Speaker 1: that we get more these great actresses working together and
- 10:02Speaker 1: doing the girlfriend thing. Yeah, I'm into it too totally,
- 10:06Speaker 1: especially coming off of Sister Swap, because I really liked
- 10:11Speaker 1: that like set of movies, like how they did it,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and I think that's like basically what we have here too,
- 10:19Speaker 1: with a little tweak here and there. I really like
- 10:24Speaker 1: the overall story of like this magical veil with the
- 10:28Speaker 1: you know, history of it, and I'm excited to see
- 10:32Speaker 1: what's going to happen in the two other movies. Look,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I read all of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I'm here for this.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Well, that's what I was wondering. I mean, is this
- 10:42Speaker 2: just a remake of Sister Heard of the Traveling Pants.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Are we just like longing for something like that from Hallmark?
- 10:50Speaker 1: I mean I'm okay if it's inspired by that, I'm
- 10:53Speaker 1: good with that.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Yeah me too, Yeah me too.
- 10:55Speaker 1: What else did you like?
- 10:58Speaker 2: Well? Speaking with the relationship between the girls, I just
- 11:02Speaker 2: love the girls, the women, the three friends. Uh, they
- 11:06Speaker 2: just seem so easy and natural with each other, like
- 11:09Speaker 2: as like actresses. They like worked all well together. It
- 11:12Speaker 2: wasn't like one was like fighting for like top dog,
- 11:17Speaker 2: you know what I mean. It just felt very comfortable. However,
- 11:21Speaker 2: I will say that sometimes when they like would talk
- 11:27Speaker 2: to each other, seemed a little formal and oh, that's
- 11:30Speaker 2: probably just writing. Like for example, they were like Alison
- 11:36Speaker 2: Sweeney's character was really into like lifting each other, you know,
- 11:40Speaker 2: lifting her friends up right, they all were doing that.
- 11:44Speaker 2: But like it was just like, oh, you better turn
- 11:48Speaker 2: that frown upside down or you know whatever. Whereas like
- 11:51Speaker 2: I think, like if you and I were together would
- 11:54Speaker 2: be like, bitch, please, like you know, you know, yes,
- 11:57Speaker 2: because we're very comfortable with each other. So I think
- 12:00Speaker 2: it was just like the script probably yeah, and its audience,
- 12:04Speaker 2: you know whatever. I still liked it.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I thought it was great. I liked that the wedding
- 12:10Speaker 1: veil was actually beautiful, and sometimes we get these items
- 12:16Speaker 1: that are supposed to be very meaningful in a movie
- 12:18Speaker 1: and they're like, really, I thought they did a nice
- 12:20Speaker 1: job finding a beautiful veil to use as the centerpiece
- 12:25Speaker 1: of these movies.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Well, I'm telling you, it was so pretty on Lacy
- 12:28Speaker 2: at the end with the beautiful head piece and stuff.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I thought it was lovely, except though she was dancing
- 12:33Speaker 2: with it on at one point and I was like, no,
- 12:35Speaker 2: did you wear a veil at your wedding? Yes?
- 12:39Speaker 1: And I don't think I wore it to the reception.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm trying to remember if I wore mine to
- 12:45Speaker 2: the reception or not. I don't think so. I think
- 12:47Speaker 2: I took it off at some point. Yeah, So it
- 12:50Speaker 2: was just I don't know. I was like, would she
- 12:52Speaker 2: be dancing the entire time at the reception with this
- 12:56Speaker 2: like very expensive meaningful item.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Right, her friend should like take it off?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Yeah, we paid for that too, don't don't know anything.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Before my turn, I loved Kevin McGarry.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Look, I have lots to talk about him, let's hear it. Well.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I texted Megan while I was watching this and I
- 13:19Speaker 2: was like, Kevin McGary is a super wowie zowie for
- 13:24Speaker 2: me and I and she goes, yeah, he is, except
- 13:28Speaker 2: for one thing. And I'm like, whoa what?
- 13:30Speaker 1: And I thought you were going to come right back
- 13:32Speaker 1: with my one thing.
- 13:34Speaker 2: She's like the terrible Boston accent, and I was like,
- 13:37Speaker 2: I'm into it. I'm in I love a Boston accent.
- 13:41Speaker 2: One of my favorite movies is The Town with Ben Affleck,
- 13:45Speaker 2: and it's all Boston accents, which he is a true Bostonian?
- 13:51Speaker 2: Is that right? Uh?
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yes, well done?
- 13:53Speaker 2: Wow. So I don't know, but he was doing it
- 13:58Speaker 2: for me? Wow? Is that?
- 14:01Speaker 1: I really enjoyed him. The Boston accent bothered me. I
- 14:07Speaker 1: have some thoughts on that later, But I didn't like that.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I could have done without it, particularly because nobody else
- 14:17Speaker 1: living in Boston had the Boston accent, so we didn't
- 14:19Speaker 1: need him to have this strong, fake Boston accent. And
- 14:22Speaker 1: I have something to say about that later. He is
- 14:25Speaker 1: most well known for his roles on When Calls the
- 14:29Speaker 1: Heart and Heartland. He's had a lot of other smaller roles.
- 14:33Speaker 1: He's been in some you know, holiday movies, but Hallmark
- 14:38Speaker 1: fans love him from When Calls the Heart. I have
- 14:42Speaker 1: never seen an episode of that show. I loved him
- 14:45Speaker 1: in this. He needs to be a new leading man
- 14:48Speaker 1: in regular rotation.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I think so too. And dude looks good in a suit. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:55Speaker 2: I thought he was hot. But we'll talk about the
- 15:01Speaker 2: accent a little bit more later. I thought Lacey really
- 15:04Speaker 2: redeemed herself after Christmas at Castle Heart, because that was
- 15:06Speaker 2: a big stinker from countdown to Christmas.
- 15:08Speaker 1: One hundred percent agree.
- 15:11Speaker 2: So I wonder if she made she must have made
- 15:13Speaker 2: this one first before Christmas at Castle Heart, right, uh
- 15:15Speaker 2: huh uh huh. But yeah, and I don't blame her
- 15:19Speaker 2: for Christmas at Castle Heart. I think she was given
- 15:22Speaker 2: a stinker to work with. Yeah, I think so too,
- 15:24Speaker 2: because I don't think.
- 15:25Speaker 1: She ruined that movie.
- 15:29Speaker 2: No, I don't think so either.
- 15:30Speaker 1: But this was definitely a redemption for her. And I
- 15:34Speaker 1: like that we'll get to see so much of her
- 15:36Speaker 1: because I assume this friends all make appearances in the movies, right, right, right.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Did you notice the clothing at all?
- 15:44Speaker 1: Her dresses? I loved them.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Was she had. They gave her such a romantic style
- 15:49Speaker 2: and it was super in line with her character, which
- 15:53Speaker 2: I appreciated. But she wore such cute things, like she
- 15:57Speaker 2: looked adorable.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And loved her and loved her dresses.
- 16:02Speaker 2: What did you think about the chemistry between Avery and Peter.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I believed it.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, me too. Like I read some reviews that were like, oh,
- 16:11Speaker 2: there was nothing between them. I was like, are you
- 16:13Speaker 2: kidding me? They had great banter, very flirtatious, like I
- 16:18Speaker 2: was in I believed it. Yeah.
- 16:21Speaker 1: The scene when her friend tells him the weddings in
- 16:24Speaker 1: a month and he kind of like walks away heartbroken.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I really I felt that for him. I thought like, oh,
- 16:32Speaker 1: it's really sad about this.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I have some thoughts on that. We'll talk about that later.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I also really liked Avery's coworker, the girl coworker. I
- 16:43Speaker 2: don't know what her character's name was, but she was
- 16:46Speaker 2: like a great because she has her two other like
- 16:49Speaker 2: really close girlfriends that they would connect via zoom or
- 16:52Speaker 2: their phone calls or whatever. But then she had this
- 16:54Speaker 2: person like in person who she could like work off of,
- 16:58Speaker 2: the one that she was helping plan the wedding. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 2: her name's Lucy. Her the actress's name is Fiona Rooum.
- 17:03Speaker 2: She was cute.
- 17:04Speaker 1: She's real cute. Anything else you liked?
- 17:07Speaker 2: Oh? Oh, one last little scene when when Peter was
- 17:11Speaker 2: leading that children's art class, I just thought I was
- 17:13Speaker 2: very sweet.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I loved it and well done, well thought out. They
- 17:19Speaker 1: did a nice job in that moment like that, I
- 17:22Speaker 1: thought so too.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I wish that we weren't working backwards from the
- 17:29Speaker 1: all women just want to get married plot device. We
- 17:32Speaker 1: start with the veil and we work backward to the man.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I don't love it.
- 17:38Speaker 2: What would you like instead?
- 17:40Speaker 1: I don't know how to make this work in a
- 17:43Speaker 1: Hallmark movie, because obviously we need them all to fall
- 17:48Speaker 1: in love to make it work. But I do think
- 17:53Speaker 1: it goes back to that, like, well, I'm going to
- 17:56Speaker 1: buy the veil because my whole hope is to fall
- 17:58Speaker 1: in love and get married.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Yes, I understand, but I'm also trying to remember myself
- 18:05Speaker 2: as not married. I wondered if I that's all I
- 18:08Speaker 2: thought about, that I only think about getting married when
- 18:10Speaker 2: I was in my twenties, before I got married, maybe
- 18:14Speaker 2: one hundred percent.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And would I have also gone in on some like
- 18:18Speaker 1: would I have loved the idea of this veil that
- 18:23Speaker 1: traveled between my friends now? Is it practical? No, it's
- 18:26Speaker 1: not because who knows, like what style you have, whatever,
- 18:29Speaker 1: But I love the idea. I would have been all
- 18:31Speaker 1: in on it.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Just had a thought like maybe we you know, well,
- 18:36Speaker 2: that's what I kind of like about the three different girls,
- 18:40Speaker 2: because you have Lacey, who's like desperate to fall in
- 18:43Speaker 2: love and find romance, right, and you have Ali, who's
- 18:47Speaker 2: like the complete opposite, who is like, we're good, we're
- 18:51Speaker 2: fine as we are, blah blah blah. So I think
- 18:54Speaker 2: it's kind of cool, Like I I'm interested to see
- 18:58Speaker 2: how the other two movies like out because if you
- 19:01Speaker 2: think of Ali Sweeney's character, she has no desire to
- 19:03Speaker 2: get married, so she's gonna have this veil and then
- 19:06Speaker 2: what you know, Yeah, she has no desire to get
- 19:08Speaker 2: married to her current dude.
- 19:10Speaker 1: We know they're breaking up in that movie. True, true, yes, yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 1: I like the different attitudes towards marriage. I do like
- 19:19Speaker 1: that Ali's character in spite of pretending to be happy
- 19:23Speaker 1: and her relationship isn't. Also like we got to get married, like,
- 19:27Speaker 1: because a lot of these characters we see in unhappy
- 19:30Speaker 1: relationships moving towards marriage excellent points.
- 19:34Speaker 2: So what I wish for in this movie is for
- 19:38Speaker 2: a quicker resolution to the misunderstanding of Avery not being
- 19:43Speaker 2: the one getting married.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Indeed, I thought that lasted for too long.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Too long. I was like, is Peter a complete blockhead?
- 19:51Speaker 2: Like could he not figure this out sooner? Like ask,
- 19:56Speaker 2: don't assume dummy.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yes, at no point prior to the wedding does he
- 20:01Speaker 1: ask about her fiance.
- 20:05Speaker 2: And I don't know, And then he keeps getting like
- 20:07Speaker 2: mad at her and she's like, what the hell are you?
- 20:10Speaker 2: You're hot and cold dude, Like what is going on?
- 20:13Speaker 2: Like it was just frustrating.
- 20:16Speaker 1: That part was frustrating, okay, but also do we believe
- 20:19Speaker 1: that she's traveling with a veil in a clear garment bag?
- 20:22Speaker 1: Are we to believe that there's no part of her
- 20:25Speaker 1: that thought? Huh, maybe he saw the veil and got
- 20:28Speaker 1: the wrong idea.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, well she could be a blackhead too. I guess
- 20:35Speaker 2: the other thing is she's not wearing an engagement ring.
- 20:37Speaker 2: And I know not everybody has access to engagement rings
- 20:44Speaker 2: prior to getting married, but like, come on, dude, yep, yep, yep, yep.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I think they could have cut some of the misunderstanding
- 20:53Speaker 1: and given more time to their wedding ceremony that too,
- 20:58Speaker 1: which was two lines long.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Yeah I know, I'm like, are we supposed to just
- 21:03Speaker 2: assume like they just cut like all the like, you know,
- 21:07Speaker 2: the talky parts of the wedding Sarah right?
- 21:11Speaker 1: Or was their wedding ceremony? We were gathered here? Do
- 21:14Speaker 1: you you're married?
- 21:20Speaker 2: The last thing I wish for is less coworker competition
- 21:23Speaker 2: for the job promotion not needed, completely irrelevant to the storyline.
- 21:28Speaker 1: It just was dumb, and they made her coworker so smarmy.
- 21:32Speaker 1: It just made me uncomfortable to watch him. He was
- 21:35Speaker 1: just sicky. I are again, that was the conflict, agree
- 21:39Speaker 1: that we didn't need. Sometimes they just keep throwing stuff
- 21:42Speaker 1: in to keep us on our toes, keep the story
- 21:44Speaker 1: moving forward. I don't think we needed it. She could
- 21:46Speaker 1: have been vying for the promotion all on her own
- 21:50Speaker 1: without Ikey mcickerson thrown in a wrench.
- 21:54Speaker 2: I have several did you see that? Which also now
- 22:00Speaker 2: is home to my complaints about the movie.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that's really what mine is. I've actually addressed a
- 22:06Speaker 1: couple of them already. I'm gonna let you go first
- 22:07Speaker 1: because I don't have that many.
- 22:09Speaker 2: But I have a big one. Go ahead, Okay, I hope.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I'm not gonna steal your big one. Go ahead. They're
- 22:15Speaker 2: leaving the hotel and they say, let's take a selfie,
- 22:18Speaker 2: and they turn the phone around, take a selfie with
- 22:22Speaker 2: the veil, and then they show the photo that they took. Right,
- 22:28Speaker 2: it's obviously not the photo they took because they're all
- 22:32Speaker 2: looking above the camera, like these ladies know how to
- 22:37Speaker 2: take a selfie, so obviously, like did you see the scene.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I saw the scene. I don't remember the photo.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Oh my god, please go back. I'm gonna try to
- 22:45Speaker 2: get a screen cap if I can for show notes.
- 22:49Speaker 2: But it's almost like they maybe took a screen grab
- 22:54Speaker 2: of the filming and then superimposed it onto the that's something.
- 23:01Speaker 2: It was so weird. It's like literally they're looking above
- 23:05Speaker 2: the camera on the phone like it's bizarre.
- 23:09Speaker 1: That's funny, bizarre. I did like that they moved to
- 23:12Speaker 1: get better lighting in that moment.
- 23:13Speaker 2: That was funny. Okay. So that's my point is like
- 23:17Speaker 2: focus on the details or don't like that was a
- 23:20Speaker 2: good point, Like, oh, the lighting's better over here, that's
- 23:22Speaker 2: very relatable. But then don't show the selfie if it's
- 23:26Speaker 2: not good.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Yeah, what I mean, right, we didn't necessarily need to
- 23:29Speaker 1: see it exactly. Okay, this is my question. Kevin McGary
- 23:34Speaker 1: has this terrible Boston accent. Throughout his character has this
- 23:36Speaker 1: terrible Boston accent. It's noticeable, and when he and Lacey
- 23:41Speaker 1: have their little chance meeting and they end up spending
- 23:45Speaker 1: the day together, he's speaking in this terrible Boston accent
- 23:48Speaker 1: and they get to the end of their meeting and
- 23:49Speaker 1: she he goes, oh, I'm going back to Boston, and
- 23:52Speaker 1: she goes, you're from Boston, so am I lady? Why
- 23:57Speaker 1: did we give him this terrible Boston accent? If not
- 23:59Speaker 1: for you to notice that he's clearly from Boston. If
- 24:02Speaker 1: this is where you live. Nobody else in the movie
- 24:05Speaker 1: has a Boston accent, not one person in the movie.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Maybe she's an accent. Maybe she's ex his mother, Yeah, exactly.
- 24:14Speaker 2: I was like, maybe he's a She was immune to
- 24:17Speaker 2: it because she lives in Boston, so she was like
- 24:19Speaker 2: not picking up on the Boston accent in San Francisco.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I hear you. I actually thought he wasn't leaning so
- 24:27Speaker 2: hard into it at the beginning of the movie, like
- 24:29Speaker 2: when they were like fighting for the cab and then
- 24:31Speaker 2: they went and whatever, went to the museum. I only
- 24:34Speaker 2: very heard it, just a little bit, and then it
- 24:36Speaker 2: was like no turning back from there.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah, he did seem to slip in and out of it.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Kevin McGary, they did you dirty because you're
- 24:47Speaker 1: so cute.
- 24:48Speaker 2: You know what he sounded like in Goodwill Hunting when
- 24:52Speaker 2: they're like from Southeast Apples. Oh my god. It was
- 24:57Speaker 2: so like, I wonder if that's what he just watched
- 25:00Speaker 2: over and over and over again. I love you, Kevin Viccary,
- 25:05Speaker 2: but not that accent. Yeah. Funny, Okay, Avery's museum. It's
- 25:15Speaker 2: a museum, right, Yeah, yeah, but is it in a house?
- 25:20Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:21Speaker 1: It was funny because I was trying to decide how
- 25:23Speaker 1: I feel about that, because I don't think that's super
- 25:26Speaker 1: unusual for like a small town. Is this a small
- 25:30Speaker 1: town to have like a use a unique building for
- 25:35Speaker 1: a museum. But yeah, it was a house. I would
- 25:38Speaker 1: say it was a house with a big slicking out front.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Like they were in the dining room, like their
- 25:43Speaker 2: offices in the dining room. It was bizarre, super bizarre.
- 25:48Speaker 2: And then they got married there. This is my mother.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I was like, for that set right, Yes, but he's
- 25:56Speaker 2: a Hastings and they come from money. You think they're
- 26:00Speaker 2: getting married at this little like art house museum.
- 26:03Speaker 1: If it's I met and fell in love outdoor space, Oh,
- 26:08Speaker 1: I agree.
- 26:09Speaker 2: But it was just okay, all right. I mean they're like, look,
- 26:14Speaker 2: we got to get every shot we need from this
- 26:16Speaker 2: space so.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Well, And he made a big point of saying, like,
- 26:19Speaker 1: you know, women in the past have been with me
- 26:21Speaker 1: for my money, so it may have been out of
- 26:24Speaker 1: character were they to turn around and have this big, lavish,
- 26:29Speaker 1: five star wedding. I don't know, dang you, Okay, I'm
- 26:32Speaker 1: just arguing for the sake of arguing I got you,
- 26:34Speaker 1: I got you.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I gasped out loud when Avery says suggests that she
- 26:41Speaker 2: wants to do a wedding theme for the gala, because
- 26:43Speaker 2: I was like, oh no, that's a terrible idea. And
- 26:46Speaker 2: then and then and then I was like, wait a minute,
- 26:50Speaker 2: I like weddings, so that might be kind of fun.
- 26:53Speaker 2: But then like the gala and the int didn't really
- 26:56Speaker 2: look like a wedding at all, so like I didn't
- 26:59Speaker 2: see I didn't see what.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Other than the invitation.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Invitation, yes, and she picked out a fugly one. By
- 27:08Speaker 2: the way, I thought it was so ugly, but.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I didn't have citrus on it or something.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I like citrus. I don't know. It just was not
- 27:16Speaker 2: my personal taste and not something I would have picked. Yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 2: but you anyway, I thought the whole portrait part of
- 27:26Speaker 2: the movie dragged on a little bit. Like I appreciated
- 27:29Speaker 2: the storyline, like her finding this like old portrait and
- 27:34Speaker 2: like the drama to clean it and it might not
- 27:36Speaker 2: get done in time, and like all that stuff, but
- 27:39Speaker 2: it just was like, too too too, too, too, too, too,
- 27:41Speaker 2: too long.
- 27:42Speaker 1: That's funny because I thought that they Yeah, I thought
- 27:47Speaker 1: they did a nice job of making that feel real,
- 27:50Speaker 1: like with the curator and with his discussion. And there's
- 27:52Speaker 1: at one point where I'm like, oh, did they google
- 27:54Speaker 1: those terms? Because he's like, you got to do this
- 27:56Speaker 1: process and that that process. It's like they must have
- 27:59Speaker 1: looked up like how to restore art work and mature
- 28:02Speaker 1: to throw those into the script.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Well, it was so funny too, because they're like, this
- 28:06Speaker 2: is the only guy in all of the world who
- 28:09Speaker 2: can repair this painting. Like, no, I'm sure there's people
- 28:14Speaker 2: out there right restores. There's got to be a bunch
- 28:17Speaker 2: of them, don't you think.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Yeah, the guy that your small town little museum works
- 28:20Speaker 1: is the best art restore in the world, right exactly.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, here's my last one. At some point, Peter
- 28:29Speaker 2: is complaining that basically he's this poor, rich guy who
- 28:33Speaker 2: isn't fulfilled with life, and I was like, dude, stop it.
- 28:38Speaker 2: And then he gets mad at Avery for midgeing it
- 28:40Speaker 2: in like such an offhand manner to his mom. Yeah,
- 28:44Speaker 2: and he gets pissed off. I was like, this guy
- 28:46Speaker 2: and his temper, like he's so judy moody.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I really hated that because his mom he was
- 28:56Speaker 1: doing it out of this fake sense of obligation. His
- 28:58Speaker 1: mom didn't even really care that much that he was
- 29:01Speaker 1: a part of the foundation.
- 29:03Speaker 2: You know.
- 29:03Speaker 1: He felt like, oh, it's gonna break her heart if
- 29:05Speaker 1: I'm not a part of the foundation anymore.
- 29:07Speaker 2: But she didn't even care. I know, it was just
- 29:09Speaker 2: come on stupid. She didn't want it the best for him. Well, yeah,
- 29:15Speaker 2: all of that just made me mad. I just wanted
- 29:17Speaker 2: like her at some point to be like kick this
- 29:20Speaker 2: guy to the curb because he was treating her not kindly,
- 29:24Speaker 2: like she was letting him like walk all over her.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yeah he was.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I didn't like his moodiness and how every time he
- 29:32Speaker 1: would get upset with her because he thought she was
- 29:33Speaker 1: leading him on because she was engaged, she would just
- 29:36Speaker 1: walk away.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Could we please just.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Have a conversation people like in the hotel? All he
- 29:42Speaker 1: had to do, and again there's no movie if this happens,
- 29:44Speaker 1: but all he to do was be like, oh are
- 29:45Speaker 1: you getting married? Like why do you have a veil?
- 29:47Speaker 2: That's all he had to do, I know.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Yeah, so instead of storming off like she had ruined
- 29:52Speaker 1: his life.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 29:56Speaker 1: As a reminder, our rating system is now out of
- 29:59Speaker 1: five stars for the listeners instead of four. So with
- 30:02Speaker 1: that in mind, what did you rate this movie?
- 30:05Speaker 2: I'm excited to see more. I gave it four stars.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Wow, I gave it three point seven five. Ah, four
- 30:11Speaker 1: stars feels like a really I almost gave it four.
- 30:14Speaker 1: It felt really high. Three point seven five for me
- 30:18Speaker 1: felt like totally watchable. Would be fine if it came
- 30:22Speaker 1: on again. Is did not blow my mind the way
- 30:25Speaker 1: some of my favorite favorite movies have. Yikes, I'm scared.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I'm maybe I overly rated this then I.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Was just trying to keep it simple. Four stars, but okay,
- 30:35Speaker 2: three point seventy five.
- 30:37Speaker 1: You don't have to change your meaning.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I'm not I'm saying I approve of your three point
- 30:42Speaker 2: seven five.
