- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:17Speaker 3: If Heaven could just play this out in like a computer,
- 0:21Speaker 3: you'd rather do that.
- 0:22Speaker 4: But I'd rather just play the game and not deal
- 0:24Speaker 4: with all the other nonsense.
- 0:26Speaker 5: We're back, baby, yeah, but that's part of the fun.
- 0:28Speaker 1: We're back in the mix of it.
- 0:30Speaker 5: Like, you're too young.
- 0:31Speaker 6: I literally was physically in New Orleans when they won
- 0:34Speaker 6: their first Super Bowl.
- 0:35Speaker 4: But I'm too young.
- 0:36Speaker 7: It would be easy just to you know, I'm watching
- 0:38Speaker 7: a random Bruins game on a Friday night with nothing
- 0:40Speaker 7: to do, and hey.
- 0:41Speaker 8: Put a couple of bikes on it.
- 0:42Speaker 5: You might be tapping that appy it didn't work for
- 0:44Speaker 5: a team.
- 0:45Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't know. I've never seen something like that.
- 0:47Speaker 9: But if you look at the injury coort, everyone had
- 0:50Speaker 9: hamster injury. Okay, if that allowed the league allow that?
- 0:54Speaker 10: Are you allowed to have a hamsterm injury?
- 0:55Speaker 8: You can hate Rogers, you scout.
- 0:58Speaker 10: I don't really hate watch a lot.
- 1:00Speaker 5: What will make Patriots fans more upset? That's what I
- 1:03Speaker 5: want to have.
- 1:04Speaker 10: So okay, so argue with the listeners and what can
- 1:08Speaker 10: what can?
- 1:08Speaker 6: So?
- 1:08Speaker 10: What do we pick? What do we do?
- 1:10Speaker 3: I'm telling you right now, Texans win Rogers doesn't even
- 1:13Speaker 3: finish the game, and it's not because the score.
- 1:16Speaker 10: Wow, jeez, nobody roots for injuries like they read. Outside
- 1:19Speaker 10: of Lucas Oil Stadium next to a trash barrel, just
- 1:22Speaker 10: with his head down, just strut who it wasn't a
- 1:25Speaker 10: member of the show. It was used to produce the show.
- 1:28Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeah, because he was drunk.
- 1:30Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:40Speaker 5: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:44Speaker 5: at chi Lets Stadium and the season continues. Seventy five
- 1:49Speaker 5: percent of the teams are on vacation.
- 1:52Speaker 8: Eight left.
- 1:53Speaker 5: The Patriots are one of them. Baby, shut up all
- 1:57Speaker 5: those haters, right, yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Them all up, shut up, take that soft schedule and
- 2:02Speaker 4: shove it.
- 2:03Speaker 10: Yeah, that's right. We're here.
- 2:04Speaker 5: Just beat one of the best defenses in the league
- 2:08Speaker 5: and one of our in our defense.
- 2:10Speaker 10: Shut down.
- 2:11Speaker 8: Who saw that coming? Justin herman?
- 2:14Speaker 4: Do you know who's on the fraud watch is justin her.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Whatever you think is gonna happen in the playoffs is
- 2:19Speaker 3: probably not gonna happen.
- 2:21Speaker 5: So this is unbelievable. We're on to the Houston Texans
- 2:27Speaker 5: on on Sunday three o'clock.
- 2:31Speaker 3: And here we go, Here we go. I mean, next
- 2:34Speaker 3: stop AFC Championship. If you ask me, oh boy, I mean,
- 2:37Speaker 3: I'll do my Thursday pick right now.
- 2:39Speaker 7: I haven't even worked myself up the Texans yet.
- 2:44Speaker 8: I'm getting I'll be there by tomorrow. I'm very concerned.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Forget about tomorrow. Give it an hour.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah, so let's get right into it. It's Evan, it's Paul,
- 2:54Speaker 3: it's me, it's Deuce, it's Matt and Alex. And yeah,
- 2:59Speaker 3: I mean six to three. No one saw that coming,
- 3:01Speaker 3: no one saw that result coming. But here we are
- 3:05Speaker 3: headed to the Divisional Round final eight. Feeling good, Yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 3: feeling really good about this team. I know, like you
- 3:14Speaker 3: would hope that they'd have more than sixteen points, but listen,
- 3:18Speaker 3: is everybody's first playoff game. Now you got that under
- 3:20Speaker 3: your belt. I'm looking for more offensive production next week.
- 3:25Speaker 5: I feel good.
- 3:27Speaker 8: I feel good too.
- 3:27Speaker 7: I mean, the way the defense played it was really encouraging,
- 3:30Speaker 7: just to see them kind of come back to that form.
- 3:33Speaker 8: I felt like that they had the beginning of the
- 3:35Speaker 8: season when they were really healthy.
- 3:36Speaker 7: But to me, it was a great sign of just
- 3:38Speaker 7: you have that turnover, they take over at the ten.
- 3:42Speaker 7: I mean, and this is a defensive and we all
- 3:44Speaker 7: know it's been terrible in the red zone all year.
- 3:46Speaker 7: To pitch a stop on you know, on fourth down,
- 3:48Speaker 7: which is another part of it we can get into
- 3:50Speaker 7: about what just take the points. It's you know, there's
- 3:52Speaker 7: not gonna be nineteen points scored in this game and
- 3:53Speaker 7: you're passing up three of them. But just an outstanding
- 3:57Speaker 7: effort from the defense. I mean, Milton Williams, I mean
- 3:59Speaker 7: when you signed him, everything you were hoping to get
- 4:02Speaker 7: from that guy's an absolute beast.
- 4:03Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I think the fact that they could win a
- 4:06Speaker 6: fight this way is really encouraging because you're not going
- 4:09Speaker 6: to win four straight games playing one way. You're gonna
- 4:13Speaker 6: have to win different types of football games and games
- 4:17Speaker 6: that declare different ways. This declared as a defensive battle,
- 4:21Speaker 6: and their defense made more plays than the Chargers defense did,
- 4:24Speaker 6: and your offense was able to find a little bit
- 4:27Speaker 6: of something in the second half to move the ball
- 4:30Speaker 6: enough to win the game. So you have one of
- 4:33Speaker 6: those games, you know, I think this next one will
- 4:35Speaker 6: probably be pretty similar, But at some point you might
- 4:37Speaker 6: play a game that's thirty five thirty.
- 4:39Speaker 4: And you might have to win it that way. You know,
- 4:41Speaker 4: that's how the playoffs work.
- 4:42Speaker 6: So the fact that they were able to win a
- 4:45Speaker 6: slugfest against a really good defense and a really good
- 4:48Speaker 6: quarterback is encouraging because I don't think that's the formula
- 4:51Speaker 6: that most of us thought.
- 4:53Speaker 4: They would win by.
- 4:55Speaker 10: Yeah, the defense was by far and away the best
- 4:59Speaker 10: that I've seen it look in years, not just this year. Yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 10: they haven't approached anything like that. Hats off to Zach Korr.
- 5:07Speaker 10: This is my big message in the postgame show before
- 5:10Speaker 10: Freddie and Mike came down to start with us, just
- 5:14Speaker 10: all the different stuff that they did. Listening to Robert
- 5:17Speaker 10: Splaine explain how the Chargers were going up to him
- 5:20Speaker 10: after the game, saying that we didn't know what you've.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Said A really good question you ever asked that? Oh,
- 5:23Speaker 4: good job, ev.
- 5:25Speaker 10: You know, just the Chargers players telling the Splaine that
- 5:30Speaker 10: they didn't know exactly what they were seeing and they
- 5:32Speaker 10: didn't know where the pressure was coming from. The coverages,
- 5:34Speaker 10: and that's what it looked like. I thought Herbert was
- 5:38Speaker 10: awful in the game, but I thought the Patriots made
- 5:41Speaker 10: him look awful. It wasn't like he had all these
- 5:43Speaker 10: throws that he couldn't make. He just didn't really seem
- 5:46Speaker 10: like he knew what he was looking at. The pressure,
- 5:49Speaker 10: obviously was overwhelming in the second half. Great great overall
- 5:53Speaker 10: performance by the defense. It starts with Zach Korr. I
- 5:55Speaker 10: think they really had some stuff for this game that
- 5:58Speaker 10: we haven't seen a lot of.
- 6:00Speaker 7: Inordinate you know, coordinating, the rush was making them sorry,
- 6:04Speaker 7: the covers was making them hold it. The rush was
- 6:06Speaker 7: getting home when they needed to get there. And you
- 6:08Speaker 7: know those hits at the end, My god, I mean
- 6:10Speaker 7: those that Efferny Jenny's hit. Those a couple of sacks
- 6:13Speaker 7: at the end, there was like, oh boy, this is
- 6:15Speaker 7: Herbert's going to be.
- 6:15Speaker 8: Limping on it.
- 6:16Speaker 13: This one.
- 6:16Speaker 5: He got his ass kicked.
- 6:18Speaker 6: He did, so, Yeah, Herbert had did not see the
- 6:21Speaker 6: field well as us Bollnor is like to say.
- 6:24Speaker 14: So.
- 6:25Speaker 8: I mean, I heard some talk that they looked unprepared.
- 6:26Speaker 8: Do you think that that?
- 6:27Speaker 4: I mean, I think there's definitely an element to that.
- 6:30Speaker 5: I think they're certainly more prepared for what we did.
- 6:32Speaker 5: They said it.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 6: I think the bigger thing though, was it's so clear
- 6:38Speaker 6: that he had adjusted his internal clock for that offensive line,
- 6:41Speaker 6: and he was like kind of seeing ghosts, like, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 6: like there were times where he was starting to move
- 6:47Speaker 6: and he was starting to scramble and not really allowing
- 6:50Speaker 6: the plays to develop and not giving him that that
- 6:53Speaker 6: extra beat to you know, mccacky's gonna uncover, but you
- 6:56Speaker 6: got to hold the ball here just for an extra second.
- 6:59Speaker 6: And he just wasn't willing to do that. So he
- 7:01Speaker 6: did miss quite a few throws on the film. You know,
- 7:04Speaker 6: it's easy to sit there and say that watching it
- 7:06Speaker 6: on your couch at home.
- 7:07Speaker 4: But he didn't miss quite a few throws.
- 7:09Speaker 6: But it was because they had him sped up and
- 7:13Speaker 6: he was not really willing to sit there in the
- 7:15Speaker 6: pocket and wait for it to come open.
- 7:17Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 3: I thought they were going to force the charges into
- 7:21Speaker 3: mistakes because they were scoring points the Patriots.
- 7:24Speaker 5: You know, I didn't think it would be because of
- 7:26Speaker 5: their defense.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I thought they would just feel, you know, anxious, because
- 7:29Speaker 3: oh you got to keep up with the Patriots.
- 7:31Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, that was great. I mean that the amount
- 7:34Speaker 10: of times that they did different things. I thought the
- 7:36Speaker 10: coverage was a little bit better. I agree with that
- 7:38Speaker 10: if I thought there were some plays that Herbert just
- 7:40Speaker 10: didn't make, but I think the Patriots forced a lot
- 7:43Speaker 10: of that. And it was like early in the game,
- 7:45Speaker 10: I could hear, you know, and I mentioned this to
- 7:47Speaker 10: Mike and Evan in front of us. I heard a
- 7:49Speaker 10: couple of people talking. They were like, wow, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 10: Herbert's really bailing out of the pocket too quickly. And
- 7:54Speaker 10: that was true, but also in my view, understandable given
- 7:58Speaker 10: what he's gone through all year. But yeah, at some
- 8:01Speaker 10: point you have to you have to make some plays,
- 8:04Speaker 10: and he missed them all, you know. And I was
- 8:07Speaker 10: very critical of Harbaugh not just kicking a field goal
- 8:10Speaker 10: and taking the lead when they got stopped after that
- 8:13Speaker 10: red zone turnover. But that's a throw you got to make.
- 8:16Speaker 10: He's got Keenan Allen there. It's not a you're not
- 8:19Speaker 10: wide open or anything, but he's got a window to
- 8:21Speaker 10: throw it to him. It was a little high. I
- 8:23Speaker 10: thought it was weird that Alan never put his hands
- 8:25Speaker 10: up because it looked like it was it looked like
- 8:28Speaker 10: it was catchable, but I think he kept his his
- 8:30Speaker 10: arms down thinking there might be a guy behind him,
- 8:33Speaker 10: and I thought that was sort of emblematic of the
- 8:35Speaker 10: entire game offensively for the Chargers. They just didn't look
- 8:39Speaker 10: comfortable at any time of the game. They looked like
- 8:41Speaker 10: they didn't know exactly what they were doing against what
- 8:44Speaker 10: the Patriots were doing, and that again is a testament
- 8:47Speaker 10: to the preparation. We talked to calebon Chasin after the
- 8:51Speaker 10: game and he gave Cores a lot of credit for
- 8:55Speaker 10: making it easy to understand what they wanted to do. Again,
- 8:58Speaker 10: just dominant performance by the defense.
- 9:01Speaker 6: It's probably going to lose Greg Roman his job, like
- 9:03Speaker 6: their offensive coordinator, I think is going to be on
- 9:07Speaker 6: any second now. We're probably going to get that notification.
- 9:10Speaker 4: It was.
- 9:10Speaker 6: It was ugly for Chargers perspective, but there was just
- 9:13Speaker 6: a lot of instances where Herbert's eyes were just down
- 9:16Speaker 6: at the rush and there's guys that maybe were open.
- 9:19Speaker 6: I mean, he had Lad McConkey on a scramble drill
- 9:22Speaker 6: that was he was twenty yards behind the defense with
- 9:25Speaker 6: nobody on him, and he's scrambling to his right and
- 9:28Speaker 6: his eyes are just down, so he's not looking down
- 9:31Speaker 6: the field to be a thrower as he's scrambling. You know,
- 9:34Speaker 6: instances like that that I think are good for the
- 9:36Speaker 6: Patriots because Rabel will put those up and say, hey,
- 9:40Speaker 6: you know, you guys did great, but there's still five
- 9:42Speaker 6: or six things that we could do even better as
- 9:45Speaker 6: they move forward here.
- 9:46Speaker 3: So they'll be playing the Texans. We'll be having our
- 9:49Speaker 3: eyes on the injury report to see the status of Gonzo.
- 9:52Speaker 3: He's in the protocol right now. We'll see how that
- 9:56Speaker 3: changes as this week goes by. Nico k for the Texans, ironically,
- 10:04Speaker 3: there's probably also going to be in the protocol. And well,
- 10:08Speaker 3: the way they took them off a cart with a
- 10:10Speaker 3: towel over his.
- 10:11Speaker 8: Head, yeah, they said, like needed a minute.
- 10:14Speaker 10: Departures, you know, stumbling down the tunnel or getting a
- 10:17Speaker 10: towel on your head and getting driven off not great
- 10:21Speaker 10: for either side, but you never know. With concussions, sometimes
- 10:25Speaker 10: they look bad and the guys come back. Sometimes they
- 10:27Speaker 10: look harmless. And they're all three weeks. So hopefully both
- 10:30Speaker 10: of these guys can play. But we'll see really well
- 10:34Speaker 10: one of them at least. Yeah, I mean I like
- 10:36Speaker 10: to see good players play.
- 10:37Speaker 7: I like to win, No, I do to I mean,
- 10:39Speaker 7: Nico Collins is an outstanding player, and I mean you
- 10:41Speaker 7: saw Christian Kirk step up a little bit last night
- 10:44Speaker 7: and really be his main outlet.
- 10:46Speaker 8: But yeah, it's it's gonna be a new challenge.
- 10:48Speaker 7: I mean, I don't want to get to the Texans
- 10:49Speaker 7: just yet, but I just was really impressed with with
- 10:52Speaker 7: I mean one for ten on on defense from third
- 10:54Speaker 7: downs for the Patriots. As you guys remember, I watched
- 10:56Speaker 7: the third and mediums last week, but you know then
- 11:01Speaker 7: the trend that always, you know, stood stood out to
- 11:05Speaker 7: me was a lot of Macnky and Alan just with
- 11:08Speaker 7: little sit routes, and I thought the Patriots did such
- 11:11Speaker 7: a great job of kind of bracketing those with a
- 11:14Speaker 7: safety and a linebacker and really taking those away. There
- 11:16Speaker 7: were a couple of times where you could tell Herbert
- 11:17Speaker 7: wanted to go there and Spallaine's jumping in front of him. Yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 7: or you know, Craig Woodson I thought was really active
- 11:24Speaker 7: in this game too, And it was just I think
- 11:26Speaker 7: it's fun with watching defense when they're clicking like that.
- 11:28Speaker 5: It's just it's all working. You talk about the impact.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Williams had coming back, but Splaine, you know, it didn't
- 11:36Speaker 3: really register on the stat sheet. I think he only
- 11:38Speaker 3: had a couple of solos, but in no sacks. But
- 11:41Speaker 3: like you said, just being there, getting everybody on the
- 11:44Speaker 3: same page.
- 11:45Speaker 7: You notice that, Yeah, I think that was part of
- 11:48Speaker 7: the problem with some of their defensive struggles when he
- 11:50Speaker 7: was out. There were just times where they weren't all
- 11:52Speaker 7: on the same page, and you know, some half the
- 11:53Speaker 7: lines doing one thing, the other ha's doing another thing.
- 11:55Speaker 7: And I mean the famous play was Josh Allen's you know,
- 11:58Speaker 7: last long touchdown that he where they broke contain and
- 12:01Speaker 7: he was able to squirt out and make the throw.
- 12:02Speaker 7: So you know, I think he's part of that communication.
- 12:05Speaker 7: But it was just one of those instances where everybody's
- 12:07Speaker 7: kind of clicking and the Corey Durdans of the world are,
- 12:10Speaker 7: you know, making an impact. And that's just a great
- 12:13Speaker 7: sign when you start to have players like that elevate.
- 12:15Speaker 7: It's not something I think we've seen a lot of
- 12:17Speaker 7: when the team is struggling, you don't really have gems
- 12:20Speaker 7: that develop. I don't know if that's the function of
- 12:22Speaker 7: that or just the lack of talent.
- 12:23Speaker 8: But you know, guy like.
- 12:24Speaker 7: Curry Jordan getting opportunities and now starting to deliver in
- 12:28Speaker 7: just giving them a really good rotation along the defensive line,
- 12:31Speaker 7: which I think they're they're leaning into playing a lot
- 12:33Speaker 7: of guys.
- 12:33Speaker 5: So those are all the good things really quickly.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Robert Splaine absolutely outstanding in this game.
- 12:39Speaker 8: Didn't look like an ankle engine anymore at all.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Watching him communicate pre snap with the rest of the
- 12:44Speaker 6: defense and be the field general out there and make
- 12:48Speaker 6: the checks, and it was just phenomenal.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Leads them. Yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 3: On the other side, you know, it's not like Drake Mayhead,
- 12:58Speaker 3: you know, a perfect night. He was running for his
- 13:00Speaker 3: life a little bit too. The left side of the
- 13:03Speaker 3: Patriots line, everybody thinks had a lot of issues. Is
- 13:08Speaker 3: it worth at least discussing the idea of Ben Brown
- 13:12Speaker 3: coming back at left guard or is that a done deal.
- 13:15Speaker 4: I think it's worth discussing.
- 13:16Speaker 6: It was worth discussing last week, and clearly that you know,
- 13:20Speaker 6: very able didn't feel like it was worth discussing. But
- 13:22Speaker 6: I think it is worth discussing. But I also think that,
- 13:26Speaker 6: you know, the McDaniels deserves a lot of credit for
- 13:29Speaker 6: what they did in the second half. And I know
- 13:31Speaker 6: it was a defensive game and the defense won it
- 13:34Speaker 6: and all that, but McDaniels versus Jesse Minter was just like,
- 13:40Speaker 6: to me, that is like as good as it gets
- 13:42Speaker 6: from two elite schemers, and McDaniels got the Chargers into
- 13:46Speaker 6: base defense a lot in the second half and they
- 13:49Speaker 6: were able to throw. Basically all of their big plays
- 13:52Speaker 6: in the second half came when the Chargers were in
- 13:54Speaker 6: base defense, and they they kind of figured it out
- 13:58Speaker 6: in the second half and they were able to make
- 14:00Speaker 6: some adjustments and move the ball.
- 14:02Speaker 4: I mean, Drake was.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Eleven for fourteen for like one hundred and seventy yards
- 14:05Speaker 6: in the second half, so he was he was playing
- 14:08Speaker 6: like Drake May for the most part, uh, you know,
- 14:11Speaker 6: down the stretch there. So I just think that, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 6: when you get into a game like this against a
- 14:15Speaker 6: really good defense and a really good coordinator, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 6: it's it's really cool to see the Patriots have an
- 14:21Speaker 6: advantage in coaching and them to be able to go
- 14:24Speaker 6: out there and have McDaniels say, this is what we're
- 14:27Speaker 6: gonna do. You know, We're gonna run twenty two personnel
- 14:30Speaker 6: and we're going to get them to put bass on
- 14:32Speaker 6: the field against it, and then we're gonna throw out
- 14:34Speaker 6: of it, you know, and that's gonna be the adjustment
- 14:37Speaker 6: that we make. You know, those are the types of
- 14:38Speaker 6: things that when you have a guy like McDaniels that
- 14:41Speaker 6: is a great coordinator that you have the ability to
- 14:44Speaker 6: do that. You know, if you're if you don't have
- 14:46Speaker 6: a Josh McDaniels on the sideline, I don't know if
- 14:48Speaker 6: you scored that last touchdown, you know, I think it's
- 14:50Speaker 6: a much closer game.
- 14:52Speaker 5: Perfect pass, perfect pass.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, perfect pass.
- 14:57Speaker 6: And again, you know that's that's We're gonna put big
- 15:01Speaker 6: people on the field. They're gonna match it with base
- 15:03Speaker 6: They're gonna match it with their big people, and we're
- 15:05Speaker 6: gonna get Hunter Henry you know, on a safety or
- 15:07Speaker 6: a linebacker here and Drake may Is gonna hit him
- 15:10Speaker 6: for a touchdown. Like that's that's all the chess match,
- 15:13Speaker 6: you know. And uh, when you the Chargers defense played
- 15:16Speaker 6: a really good game, a really good game, and Minter
- 15:19Speaker 6: now is getting all of his head coaching interviews lined
- 15:21Speaker 6: up and he's gonna probably be a head coach at
- 15:24Speaker 6: this cycle or next cycle.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Uh So that was that was really cool.
- 15:28Speaker 6: Like the defense for the Patriots was great, but but
- 15:31Speaker 6: seeing how did they they solved the problem? They that
- 15:36Speaker 6: they were going up against offensively. Was also really cool.
- 15:39Speaker 5: You're kind of game dues.
- 15:40Speaker 7: I know, it's interesting that just watching those kind of
- 15:45Speaker 7: games where it felt I mean, we know mentioned Super
- 15:48Speaker 7: Bowl face, which just one play is gonna make it here?
- 15:50Speaker 7: Is it gonna be a mistake? Is it going to
- 15:52Speaker 7: be a touchdown from Drake?
- 15:54Speaker 10: That's what it was. Reminded me that maybe he doesn't
- 16:02Speaker 10: make the absolute perfect throw this time there was three
- 16:05Speaker 10: guys around Henry and didn't matter. May put it right
- 16:09Speaker 10: in his hands.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Suggest I can't believe Derwin even came close to that,
- 16:12Speaker 6: but yeah, like he comes from the flat and just
- 16:14Speaker 6: like it, sees it at the last second and gets
- 16:17Speaker 6: gets deep and like the fact that he even came
- 16:19Speaker 6: close to.
- 16:19Speaker 10: It, that was in the combine.
- 16:23Speaker 6: But yeah, it really did play out a lot like
- 16:26Speaker 6: Super Bowl fifty.
- 16:26Speaker 8: Three and then seam it's it's the Henry times.
- 16:30Speaker 4: The adjustment that they made was exactly the same. Yeah.
- 16:32Speaker 6: They they were playing the rams or playing Nickel all
- 16:35Speaker 6: game long and Patriots couldn't do anything and McDaniels went
- 16:38Speaker 6: twenty two. You know, two tight ends, two full backs,
- 16:41Speaker 6: one wide receiver. Put the big people on the field
- 16:44Speaker 6: get an extra linebacker out there and throw the ball
- 16:47Speaker 6: exactly what they did.
- 16:48Speaker 7: Yeah, how about Remondri too, Like I just I feel
- 16:50Speaker 7: he's been outstanding, continued to be just such an X
- 16:53Speaker 7: factor for this playoffs going forward this weekend as well.
- 16:56Speaker 8: He really he's going to be another productive, another piece
- 16:59Speaker 8: they're going to need to use to exploit mismatches.
- 17:02Speaker 10: The catches have been really really big. Checkdown really big.
- 17:07Speaker 10: And you know, I thought Vrabel was interesting when we
- 17:10Speaker 10: talked to him yesterday. Mike, the pick comes and you know,
- 17:15Speaker 10: you get a deflection at the line. I don't put
- 17:17Speaker 10: those on quarterbacks, you know, for the picks, but it is,
- 17:21Speaker 10: you know, it's mentally it's on you. Like I just
- 17:24Speaker 10: had a little checkdown that got deflected and picked off
- 17:28Speaker 10: and put us in harm's way. They get a stop
- 17:30Speaker 10: and they took over the two yard line. The first play,
- 17:33Speaker 10: he runs a little checkdown that he's got to throw
- 17:35Speaker 10: the same kind of pass that just got tipped and intercepted,
- 17:39Speaker 10: and he's able to sort of and I think Vrabel said,
- 17:41Speaker 10: you know, change his arm, angle a little bit, get
- 17:44Speaker 10: it around the defender and make a play again. The
- 17:47Speaker 10: difference in this game was your quarterback. He wasn't great,
- 17:50Speaker 10: but he made plays that were able to get some
- 17:54Speaker 10: points on the board. Their quarterback didn't make any and
- 17:58Speaker 10: both defenses were really good. But the Patriots was just
- 18:01Speaker 10: a little bit better. And that was the difference in
- 18:03Speaker 10: the game. Is May made a couple of plays here
- 18:05Speaker 10: and there, and that's how they scored their points.
- 18:07Speaker 6: He still had three hundred and thirty yards of total
- 18:09Speaker 6: offense Drake May, did you know between the passing and
- 18:12Speaker 6: the rushing. So it wasn't like he didn't make any plays.
- 18:15Speaker 6: I think there was more like exchanging Haymakers in the
- 18:18Speaker 6: middle right where the Chargers made some plays.
- 18:20Speaker 10: And he also put the ball in Harm's way too often.
- 18:22Speaker 10: I mean had absolute chance for three turnovers. That's you know, absolutely,
- 18:26Speaker 10: but generally that's not You also had a forty two
- 18:30Speaker 10: yard pass, a thirty seven yard scramble of May made
- 18:33Speaker 10: just enough plays to make just enough points to win
- 18:36Speaker 10: the game. Yeah, that was the difference. Is Herbert didn't
- 18:39Speaker 10: make any He had opportunities. Evan just talked about a
- 18:42Speaker 10: couple of plays with Lad McConkey. I thought there was
- 18:45Speaker 10: the play down the sideline that Marcus Jones broke up.
- 18:49Speaker 10: I think should have been a touchdown. It's a bad throw.
- 18:51Speaker 10: Then throws them the play to Quinton Johnston that Gonzo
- 18:55Speaker 10: originally got called for passing the finance. They picked the
- 18:57Speaker 10: flag up, he's behind him, throw it out in front
- 19:00Speaker 10: of him. Now, maybe the wind had something to do
- 19:02Speaker 10: with some of the deep balls.
- 19:03Speaker 5: I don't.
- 19:04Speaker 10: You know, I'm not giving everybody a pass. But when
- 19:07Speaker 10: May had those opportunities, he connected with Booty, he connected
- 19:10Speaker 10: with Henry on the touchdown, and you know, he was
- 19:12Speaker 10: able to make some plays. Herbert didn't make any. That's generally,
- 19:16Speaker 10: you know, if your quarterback plays better than the other
- 19:18Speaker 10: team's quarterback, you're gonna.
- 19:19Speaker 15: Win with it.
- 19:19Speaker 8: It is.
- 19:20Speaker 7: You mentioned Marcus Jones two, another guy I just thought
- 19:22Speaker 7: was outstanding, you know, two third down pass breakups, the
- 19:26Speaker 7: force fumble. What a phenomenal year from him. And I
- 19:30Speaker 7: just love when you have a great year and then
- 19:31Speaker 7: you get into the playoffs and you keep doing it.
- 19:34Speaker 8: He does, he does.
- 19:35Speaker 7: And just this new level of physicality that I think
- 19:37Speaker 7: they scramble in the red zone was I mean, how
- 19:40Speaker 7: like I mean, that's a one on one tackle with
- 19:43Speaker 7: Justin Herbert. Freight rank coming to you and you've perfectly
- 19:46Speaker 7: executed a tackle to keep him down.
- 19:48Speaker 8: I mean that was remarkable. Fearless, Yeah, fearless.
- 19:51Speaker 10: Another example to me, and I made a big deal
- 19:54Speaker 10: of though, that there was three plays from Marcus Jones. Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 10: because you guys know, I have a little bit of
- 19:58Speaker 10: a brush on it. So I made a big deal
- 20:00Speaker 10: of it. But that's another example of Herbert had an
- 20:03Speaker 10: opportunity to make a play. You have to score on.
- 20:05Speaker 8: That, right, Marcus Jones in.
- 20:07Speaker 10: The cornerback, chop it out there. You have to go
- 20:09Speaker 10: over him. There's no way that Josh Allen doesn't score
- 20:11Speaker 10: on that. Yeah, there's no way.
- 20:13Speaker 13: You know.
- 20:13Speaker 8: It was another one I saw too.
- 20:15Speaker 7: Maybe you caught this one was they had vital and
- 20:18Speaker 7: pass protection.
- 20:19Speaker 8: And Marcus Jones just blew him up.
- 20:20Speaker 7: I mean it's like five eight on five eight and
- 20:22Speaker 7: they're like, oh, this is kind a funny matchup, and
- 20:24Speaker 7: Marcus Jones blasted him.
- 20:25Speaker 8: You know.
- 20:26Speaker 7: So it's just he's playing outstanding and I'd love to
- 20:29Speaker 7: see him this week, maybe help the special teams. I
- 20:31Speaker 7: think that's an area maybe you can get some hidden yardage,
- 20:34Speaker 7: hidden points.
- 20:35Speaker 10: I thought that was another very underrated thing because you
- 20:38Speaker 10: look at his punt returns. He didn't have any yardage,
- 20:41Speaker 10: but I thought he was again really effective with his
- 20:44Speaker 10: decision making. There was one late in the half. It's
- 20:46Speaker 10: three to three. Again you're in that rock fight, and
- 20:49Speaker 10: it's a terrible punt by the Chargers guy. How many
- 20:53Speaker 10: times do you see those bounce and they take a
- 20:55Speaker 10: twenty yard bounce? Zulten Mesco made a career out of
- 20:58Speaker 10: every published to call it the Romanian biltan. So but
- 21:03Speaker 10: here here comes Marcus Jones flying up. Probably would have
- 21:09Speaker 10: liked to have seen him call a fair catch and
- 21:11Speaker 10: catch it, but he doesn't secures it, probably save twenty
- 21:15Speaker 10: twenty five yards of field position. They end up taking
- 21:18Speaker 10: over near midfield. Shortly thereafter, May takes off on like
- 21:21Speaker 10: a thirty five yard scramble and you get a cheap
- 21:25Speaker 10: three points, all because you're a punt returner makes good decisions.
- 21:29Speaker 10: It wasn't like he didn't have a twenty five yard
- 21:32Speaker 10: return to get the midfield, but he saved twenty five
- 21:35Speaker 10: yards of field position by going off to field. And
- 21:37Speaker 10: he does that every time.
- 21:39Speaker 5: Instead of fielding one. I think he let one bounce
- 21:41Speaker 5: into the end zone. Yeah, he could judge him.
- 21:43Speaker 7: I mean punt returning in the NFL is one of
- 21:46Speaker 7: the skills in professional sports that just absolutely blows my mind.
- 21:49Speaker 7: He is watching the lost how Marcus Jones can catch
- 21:52Speaker 7: that ball and then get absolutely hammered by a guy
- 21:54Speaker 7: who's running full speed down the field and or make
- 21:57Speaker 7: somebody miss like I just that to me is an
- 21:59Speaker 7: athletic feet that I am consistently in awe of the
- 22:01Speaker 7: lost art.
- 22:02Speaker 4: The guy on the bear is pretty good do for days.
- 22:06Speaker 10: He's pretty good.
- 22:07Speaker 6: But there's not a lot of them that especially the
- 22:09Speaker 6: things we're talking about in terms of like deaking on
- 22:12Speaker 6: backup on the goal line or fair catching it to
- 22:15Speaker 6: feel save the field position. Like there's guys that can return, obviously,
- 22:19Speaker 6: but there's not guys that know the art of it
- 22:21Speaker 6: like he does.
- 22:22Speaker 10: That was a thirty three yard punt. Do you know
- 22:24Speaker 10: how short that is in the NFL? And he was
- 22:27Speaker 10: up to make sure it didn't hit the ground. That's
- 22:30Speaker 10: a great play, right. There was a two yard return.
- 22:32Speaker 10: Nothing special about the return, but it allows you to
- 22:34Speaker 10: take over at the forty six yard line. That directly
- 22:38Speaker 10: leads to three points in a game that was three
- 22:40Speaker 10: to three at the time. That's a that's a big
- 22:42Speaker 10: play and he does that kind of stuff consistently, all right, eight.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Five five PATS five hundred is the hotline podcast at
- 22:49Speaker 3: Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 22:54Speaker 5: I think I think it feels like we should just
- 22:56Speaker 5: open it up right yeah, to the listeners right now? Sure,
- 22:59Speaker 5: I mean, anything else you need to put on the
- 23:00Speaker 5: table here, I mean we can talk a little bit
- 23:02Speaker 5: about it. I think you know, I had a what
- 23:06Speaker 5: do you think the chances are that Tomlin parts ways
- 23:11Speaker 5: with the Steelers and Harbaugh and he flip flop goes
- 23:16Speaker 5: to the Steelers.
- 23:17Speaker 10: I think there's yeah, I think there's a chance that
- 23:19Speaker 10: Tomlin could could step away. I think there's Man, I
- 23:22Speaker 10: don't know, twenty I don't see them switching.
- 23:25Speaker 6: I just I think they're if they're going to step
- 23:28Speaker 6: away from that kind of coach, you're going to try
- 23:30Speaker 6: to go into a different direction, you would think in
- 23:32Speaker 6: terms of the style of higher that you make. Like
- 23:35Speaker 6: at that point, they're like doing the Spider Man man
- 23:37Speaker 6: like these people are the same people.
- 23:39Speaker 8: Like, Okay, bringing up a tough coach.
- 23:43Speaker 10: I'm gonna need to explain to me.
- 23:44Speaker 8: Later, Spider you know, Spider Man point and Spider.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Man theme where they say each other the two Spider
- 23:50Speaker 3: Man's No, you never saw that.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Okay, can I put one one later?
- 23:56Speaker 8: Little they want to play put it.
- 24:00Speaker 4: It's not nitpick. It's more of a concern than nitpick.
- 24:04Speaker 6: The Chargers completely took digs out of this game, and
- 24:09Speaker 6: they he got the wide receiver one treatment.
- 24:12Speaker 4: He was getting doubled, he's getting bracketed.
- 24:14Speaker 6: They're dropping guys off the line of scrimmage into his
- 24:17Speaker 6: area of the field. And you know, I thought that
- 24:20Speaker 6: early on in this game, in the first half. It
- 24:22Speaker 6: threw them off, the Patriots. It threw them off because
- 24:26Speaker 6: I think, you know, he's going to be number one
- 24:28Speaker 6: in the progression a lot, and when one isn't there,
- 24:31Speaker 6: you know that that often can throw quarterbacks off. And
- 24:34Speaker 6: whether it's trying to figure out ways to get digs
- 24:36Speaker 6: open or understanding you know, okay, they're going to probably
- 24:40Speaker 6: double digs on this third down. So I'm gonna have
- 24:42Speaker 6: to start with my eyes going elsewhere. I haven't seen
- 24:45Speaker 6: a Patriot receiver get this much attention in a in
- 24:48Speaker 6: a game in a long time. You know, he was,
- 24:50Speaker 6: he was getting bodies at him all the time, and
- 24:54Speaker 6: so I'm interested to see how that continues as we
- 24:57Speaker 6: move forward. You know, just watching the Texans a little
- 24:59Speaker 6: bit this morning, they did double DK quite a bit,
- 25:03Speaker 6: and I would just imagine they're going to just copy
- 25:05Speaker 6: paste what they did to DK and they're gonna paste
- 25:07Speaker 6: it down on Stefan Diggs this week.
- 25:09Speaker 10: So it's not enough from the other guys to overcome
- 25:13Speaker 10: that year.
- 25:13Speaker 6: I think Booty did make a couple plays, and you
- 25:17Speaker 6: know a lot of those were at least one of them,
- 25:19Speaker 6: the forty two yarder was on a play that Diggs
- 25:21Speaker 6: was doubled on, so they were able to take advantage
- 25:24Speaker 6: of it a little bit. But that's I think how
- 25:27Speaker 6: teams are going to make them. You know, win is
- 25:30Speaker 6: we're going to take eight out.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Diggs is not beating us, you know. Can it be Booty?
- 25:34Speaker 4: Can it be Hunter Henry?
- 25:36Speaker 6: You know there's no Mac Collins right now, so it's
- 25:38Speaker 6: got to be one of these other guys.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd just love to see I know, you guys
- 25:43Speaker 5: make fun of me, but just some real quick slants
- 25:46Speaker 5: just to get it out of Drake May's hands really quick.
- 25:49Speaker 5: They're almost impossible to cover.
- 25:50Speaker 10: I don't make fun of you for that. It's usually
- 25:53Speaker 10: the guy that you say, could catch ten passes a
- 25:54Speaker 10: game that I tend to make fun of.
- 25:57Speaker 6: That's what the charges were taking away. They or that's
- 26:00Speaker 6: what they were taking away. And all the little options
- 26:03Speaker 6: and all the little choice routes that they run with
- 26:06Speaker 6: digs that are over the middle that are designed to
- 26:08Speaker 6: get the ball out of his hands quickly. They had
- 26:10Speaker 6: you know, two guys on them for most of them,
- 26:13Speaker 6: so you know that was you know, Drake May said
- 26:16Speaker 6: after the game that he felt like he held the
- 26:18Speaker 6: ball a lot, and I thought he held the ball
- 26:20Speaker 6: because of the coverage. You know, they were taking away
- 26:22Speaker 6: one and so he had to progress two three, and
- 26:25Speaker 6: in this game against Houston to do that, it's one
- 26:28Speaker 6: two and.
- 26:28Speaker 10: Go, like there was no do right.
- 26:30Speaker 8: I know you can feel it right, you were.
- 26:32Speaker 10: You were listening to the broadcast. I know you always
- 26:35Speaker 10: have your TV on, but sometimes yeah, so were they
- 26:38Speaker 10: making you know, from talking to some people talking not
- 26:41Speaker 10: like football people like talking was like no, like my friends,
- 26:44Speaker 10: I want to, I don't want to, you know, it's like, yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 10: well I was talking to Bill felt. No you weren't.
- 26:48Speaker 10: You were in a press conference. You listened just like
- 26:50Speaker 10: everybody else. But so I don't want to make it
- 26:52Speaker 10: sound like this was a football thing. This is just
- 26:54Speaker 10: like people making observations, and they said that College WITHO
- 26:57Speaker 10: was making a big deal of bolts sides. Herbert in
- 27:01Speaker 10: May was sort of you're not going to be able
- 27:04Speaker 10: to sit back there for twenty minutes and dissect what's
- 27:06Speaker 10: going on. If if what you see is not there,
- 27:09Speaker 10: then tucket and run. That seemed to be like the
- 27:13Speaker 10: game plan going in and both guys, you know, were
- 27:17Speaker 10: fairly productive running the ball. But I wonder if maybe, yeah,
- 27:22Speaker 10: he the coverage was was more of an issue in
- 27:25Speaker 10: this game than than I think we've been given it credit.
- 27:28Speaker 3: I think a couple of times he mentioned the legs
- 27:30Speaker 3: of the quarterbacks are going to be the determining factor
- 27:32Speaker 3: of the.
- 27:33Speaker 6: Game, Collinsworth mentioned that, Yeah, I wouldn't say that. I
- 27:36Speaker 6: think Drake may had more of an opposite problem in
- 27:39Speaker 6: this game. I think he was taking too much time
- 27:40Speaker 6: in the pocket. I mean they're getting strips ACKed like that.
- 27:43Speaker 10: Oh, I think he was too casual in the pocket.
- 27:45Speaker 10: They would They were talking more so about the second
- 27:48Speaker 10: part for Herbert. Yeah, and I think that that was
- 27:50Speaker 10: a problem for him because I think that he didn't
- 27:52Speaker 10: let things develop talking.
- 27:54Speaker 3: About early on, I thought the offensive line did a
- 27:58Speaker 3: pretty good job protecting. I thought, but he had time
- 28:00Speaker 3: and almost got too comfortable.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Back there, you're.
- 28:02Speaker 10: Talking about Herbert or may may Well. I didn't think
- 28:05Speaker 10: the protection was very good in this.
- 28:06Speaker 5: I thought earlier it was.
- 28:08Speaker 3: I thought he had time, he just didn't have anybody open,
- 28:10Speaker 3: and then he just didn't do anything with it.
- 28:12Speaker 10: And to me, it's not even that their covered sacks
- 28:15Speaker 10: as much as once the pressure has established itself, in
- 28:18Speaker 10: other words, someone's on his legs or someone's around him,
- 28:21Speaker 10: the play's got to end there. But you can't have
- 28:24Speaker 10: the fumbles when it's like the second guy hitting the.
- 28:27Speaker 8: Quarterback can't happen this week. It cannot happen this dame.
- 28:30Speaker 10: That's what they're looking for, you know. Yep, Like in
- 28:35Speaker 10: Houston's having the same conversation. Houston's offense was actually pretty
- 28:38Speaker 10: good last night against Pittsburgh. I mean, I think they
- 28:41Speaker 10: would take four hundred yards of offense and the amount
- 28:44Speaker 10: of drives they had just true. You can't have your
- 28:46Speaker 10: quarterback fumble five times because he's playing like a moron.
- 28:49Speaker 10: And that's I'm sorry, that's what it was. He played
- 28:52Speaker 10: a terrible game, and if they do that again, they're
- 28:55Speaker 10: gonna lose. You can't win by putting the ball in
- 28:58Speaker 10: harm's way six times with your quarterback.
- 29:00Speaker 8: Actually the snaps snaps, I mean five times.
- 29:04Speaker 4: There was two bad snaps, five.
- 29:06Speaker 10: Fumbles, but he had he had five fumbles and a pick.
- 29:11Speaker 6: Yes, And it was bizarre and it was just yes,
- 29:15Speaker 6: like that was They weren't like the most perfect snaps
- 29:17Speaker 6: every time.
- 29:19Speaker 10: One of the most times one of them was snapped
- 29:21Speaker 10: when he wasn't looking, and I don't think that goes
- 29:23Speaker 10: on him as one of the fumbles, but the others
- 29:27Speaker 10: were just like right in his hands. You know, it
- 29:30Speaker 10: was a shame. You talk about trick plays like the
- 29:32Speaker 10: Patriots had one dialed up and Drake is wide open,
- 29:35Speaker 10: you know, touchdown. The Texans had a touchdown on the
- 29:38Speaker 10: flea flicker last night. But you know what threw that
- 29:40Speaker 10: playoff was the flip back to the quarterback was too high,
- 29:44Speaker 10: you see, like he kind of like, yeah, it's like
- 29:47Speaker 10: in baseball when the first basement leads the pitcher, you
- 29:51Speaker 10: don't want to loop it and throw his stride off.
- 29:53Speaker 10: He got too much air under it, and that's why
- 29:55Speaker 10: he ended up getting stripsacked on that play. If he
- 29:58Speaker 10: had just thrown it right to to Stroud, I think
- 30:00Speaker 10: he would have been able to throw it and the
- 30:02Speaker 10: guy was open. Did That's never know because it was
- 30:04Speaker 10: a strip sick?
- 30:05Speaker 8: Did that surprise you guys at all that in a
- 30:06Speaker 8: playoff game they let f and Chisholm throw a pass
- 30:08Speaker 8: to Drake May I was a little bit surprised by that.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Well, that's the point you want to be surprised.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I knew someone was up when he lined up out wide.
- 30:16Speaker 10: I was like, why is he blocking?
- 30:21Speaker 6: And of course it's seconds it's a double pass and
- 30:27Speaker 6: I was like, okay, that explains it.
- 30:29Speaker 4: You know, it was weird, like he was.
- 30:31Speaker 10: Just another one that wasn't blocked well enough. There was
- 30:33Speaker 10: way too much penetration on the left side, which I
- 30:36Speaker 10: don't blame Chisholm on like he I think he did
- 30:38Speaker 10: a good job making sure he got got the ball
- 30:41Speaker 10: away and didn't take a loss.
- 30:42Speaker 6: Those are tough ones because of the illegal man downfield penalties,
- 30:45Speaker 6: so like you can't really engage the blocks like right
- 30:50Speaker 6: away because of the reverse because then if you get
- 30:53Speaker 6: down the field, then even if he hits Drake, then
- 30:55Speaker 6: it's going to get called a penalty and it's going
- 30:57Speaker 6: to get wiped out. But as soon as I saw
- 31:00Speaker 6: how wide, I was like, well that ain't normal. And
- 31:01Speaker 6: then of course, you know, run a trip.
- 31:03Speaker 8: All right again?
- 31:05Speaker 5: Eight five to five Pats five hundred. Let's open it up.
- 31:08Speaker 5: We'll start with Dan in Daytona. What's up Dan?
- 31:12Speaker 9: Hey you guys, how you guys doing to that?
- 31:14Speaker 15: We keep it pretty short today.
- 31:17Speaker 16: I got a couple of things I wanted to mention. First,
- 31:20Speaker 16: I love the team defense. That was amazing and uh,
- 31:23Speaker 16: I think every sports broadcaster was saying that they did
- 31:26Speaker 16: not expect them from the Patriots. Second thing, Mark Mabel
- 31:31Speaker 16: was pretty funny at the end with the Millton Williams.
- 31:34Speaker 16: The third thing, Drake May with the strips, acts like
- 31:39Speaker 16: you guys kind of I think they should clean that up.
- 31:41Speaker 16: And then the last thing I have for you guys
- 31:43Speaker 16: is Ben Brown. I think there's no question he has
- 31:47Speaker 16: to be in if we're gonna win against texcause I
- 31:49Speaker 16: just watched him last week. It was for yesterday and
- 31:53Speaker 16: they made Aaron Rodgers look bad.
- 31:55Speaker 17: So what do you guys think about that?
- 31:58Speaker 10: Well?
- 31:58Speaker 7: See, I mean I wonder if the coaching staff feels
- 32:01Speaker 7: like Jerry Wilson missed a couple of weeks, and yeah
- 32:03Speaker 7: that it was in his best effort. But with the
- 32:05Speaker 7: playoff game under his belt and knocking the rust off,
- 32:09Speaker 7: maybe they believe that he'll be better this week. But
- 32:11Speaker 7: I agree that the challenge is only going to get
- 32:13Speaker 7: harder for these two guys, and you know, maybe you
- 32:16Speaker 7: got to live with some lumps.
- 32:17Speaker 8: We've been saying it all.
- 32:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I will just say I like the fact that
- 32:20Speaker 7: one of the biggest stories coming into the season was
- 32:22Speaker 7: the Patriots having to remake the offensive line, and we
- 32:25Speaker 7: plenty of time debating Will Campbell and would he be
- 32:27Speaker 7: the left tackle?
- 32:27Speaker 8: And you know, really, now, what's standing in front of
- 32:30Speaker 8: you to.
- 32:30Speaker 7: Get to the AFC Championship is largely a sound offensive
- 32:33Speaker 7: line performance and protection in this game.
- 32:35Speaker 8: So it's like when those things come.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Full circle, and yeah, it'll be a true test, true
- 32:41Speaker 3: test Todd's and Gardner.
- 32:44Speaker 5: What's up, Todd?
- 32:46Speaker 18: I got three quick points. I did say that this
- 32:50Speaker 18: was going to be a slobber knocker if for our
- 32:52Speaker 18: outside receivers didn't get at least two touchdowns. So I
- 32:55Speaker 18: kind of felt that this game was going to be
- 32:57Speaker 18: tough if we couldn't get somebody other than you know
- 32:59Speaker 18: dig is in our tight ends going. Okay, I think
- 33:03Speaker 18: you'll remember we called it a slobber knocker.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Slabber knocker, that's correct, yep.
- 33:08Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 33:09Speaker 18: So the next thing is I would like the uh,
- 33:12Speaker 18: the brawl between Fred and Paul over Chisholm to have
- 33:16Speaker 18: a name like the you know thrilla in Manila. I
- 33:19Speaker 18: think we need to call it maybe the Chisholm Schism
- 33:21Speaker 18: or something. And you guys need to revisit that a
- 33:24Speaker 18: few times.
- 33:25Speaker 10: Because I gotta be honest, I don't have enough invested
- 33:29Speaker 10: in that one to I can argue anything, but I
- 33:32Speaker 10: don't care enough about that one.
- 33:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:35Speaker 18: And the third thing is kind of for everybody but
- 33:37Speaker 18: deuced because he's just a d guy than you. What
- 33:41Speaker 18: the pressure?
- 33:43Speaker 15: What can they do to stop the pressure.
- 33:45Speaker 18: That the Texans are going to try to bring? Like
- 33:47Speaker 18: are they going to do a lot of chipping? What
- 33:48Speaker 18: do you guys think?
- 33:49Speaker 8: Like?
- 33:49Speaker 18: What is can they move the pocket? Can they do
- 33:51Speaker 18: like a combination of things? What do they need to
- 33:53Speaker 18: do to keep that textan well? Keep them out of
- 33:56Speaker 18: Maya space? And that's it, great show, guys.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Receivers Open was established the run, so that play action
- 34:03Speaker 3: could like a little bit of a meaning.
- 34:05Speaker 8: Like that, just.
- 34:07Speaker 10: Say, and I don't want to waste place.
- 34:09Speaker 6: I mean, I think you have to stay balanced, and
- 34:11Speaker 6: I think that that will be important kind of like
- 34:13Speaker 6: they did in this game against the Chargers. It wasn't
- 34:15Speaker 6: like a great rushing effort, but at least they were
- 34:17Speaker 6: getting like three or four yards pop.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Yeah, to keep balanced.
- 34:20Speaker 10: Even Sitt and Henderson averaged about like four to one,
- 34:23Speaker 10: you know, which is was eight I think they had,
- 34:27Speaker 10: so it was you know, I think nineteen for eighty.
- 34:29Speaker 6: They had even more effective than Henderson by following. But
- 34:32Speaker 6: that is you know, when you go up against a
- 34:35Speaker 6: great run defense like these two defenses, if you're averaging
- 34:38Speaker 6: four yards of carry, then you're doing your job on
- 34:40Speaker 6: the ground.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Rh just stay on schedule.
- 34:43Speaker 10: And just players that can't he can't get sacked. You know,
- 34:45Speaker 10: I don't want to abandon the run because they I
- 34:48Speaker 10: think Evan's right, Yeah, I think you get some value
- 34:50Speaker 10: in that one thing, you know. I mean, I know
- 34:54Speaker 10: Wednesdays usually when we looked ahead to the net, but
- 34:56Speaker 10: I mean in the playoffs, yeah, it's the playoffs. It's
- 34:59Speaker 10: about the Texans now, right, you move on and it's
- 35:02Speaker 10: the next one. I thought watching the game last night,
- 35:06Speaker 10: I mean, I was incredibly impressed with Houston's defense like
- 35:09Speaker 10: everybody else. So I'm not telling you, but like any
- 35:12Speaker 10: defense is beatable if you can execute. And I thought
- 35:16Speaker 10: there was a handful of times last night that Aaron
- 35:18Speaker 10: Rodgers did a good job, either by design. There was
- 35:21Speaker 10: one that they rolled him out, and I think he
- 35:23Speaker 10: had like a nice little drag route by Metcalf for
- 35:25Speaker 10: like twenty five yards, and there was other times that
- 35:29Speaker 10: he did a good job avoiding that edge pressure that
- 35:31Speaker 10: sort of materialized right away and he broke the pocket.
- 35:34Speaker 10: Now the problem for Rogers now at whatever year twenty
- 35:38Speaker 10: or whatever it is, he just doesn't have it anymore
- 35:40Speaker 10: to be able to operate as well off platform. He
- 35:44Speaker 10: was at one time as good as anybody doing that.
- 35:46Speaker 10: He can't do that anymore. Drake may can't. So you're
- 35:50Speaker 10: asking me what can they do? Do they move the pocket?
- 35:53Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 35:53Speaker 10: I think that Josh would probably be wise to move
- 35:56Speaker 10: the pocket a couple of times. I also think Drake's
- 35:58Speaker 10: going to have some opportunity is where Will Anderson and
- 36:02Speaker 10: Daniel Hunter are going to beat their guys. But he's
- 36:04Speaker 10: not going to get sacked. Now what happens. Now you
- 36:07Speaker 10: get those opportunities to make some plays. And I do
- 36:10Speaker 10: think the one area that the Texans looked like a
- 36:13Speaker 10: little vulnerable to me is down the field. I think
- 36:16Speaker 10: you can beat them over the top. I think the
- 36:17Speaker 10: Steelers had a couple of guys open over the top
- 36:20Speaker 10: last night and one Rogers got strip sacked. I think
- 36:24Speaker 10: it would have been a touchdown to Metcalf and a
- 36:26Speaker 10: drop and one with the the one that that I
- 36:30Speaker 10: think he slightly underthrew last got his hands on him
- 36:35Speaker 10: in Austin almost caught the deflection.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:37Speaker 6: Also at Austin, they thought that Steelers wanted DPI, but
- 36:41Speaker 6: Austin had to step on them.
- 36:42Speaker 10: He did again Metcalf dropped one.
- 36:44Speaker 4: I don't know if to say it is ready for area.
- 36:48Speaker 10: Dude, I don't know if you do not agree with
- 36:51Speaker 10: my assessment.
- 36:54Speaker 4: I think you were spitting facts.
- 36:56Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I know Haven's got some take development going.
- 36:59Speaker 10: I just you know, it's funny because I said, you know,
- 37:02Speaker 10: Mike and I we have to tape the Patriots Unfiltered
- 37:04Speaker 10: TV show, and we always have the C block, I think,
- 37:09Speaker 10: or the B block.
- 37:09Speaker 8: I don't know one of them TV.
- 37:11Speaker 10: I just talked one of the one of the blocks
- 37:13Speaker 10: schedules we always do on the opponent, and I always
- 37:17Speaker 10: like sort of thoroughly read don script and I look
- 37:20Speaker 10: at the stats and g why to do any of
- 37:22Speaker 10: that last night because I just watched sixty minutes of
- 37:24Speaker 10: the Texans play and I felt like, I, you know again,
- 37:27Speaker 10: I'm going to guess that that's pretty typical of the
- 37:30Speaker 10: way the Texans have played defense based on their numbers,
- 37:33Speaker 10: Like it wasn't like there's the ordinary, you know performance.
- 37:37Speaker 10: I'm going to guess that that was what they've been
- 37:38Speaker 10: doing for most for the most part this year. I
- 37:41Speaker 10: watched a little of them, you know here in their highlights.
- 37:44Speaker 10: I think you can get over the top of them.
- 37:45Speaker 10: I think their two corners are outstanding, but they're really
- 37:48Speaker 10: aggressive and they want to come up and hit you.
- 37:50Speaker 10: They want to tackle, and I think you can get
- 37:52Speaker 10: behind them if you can get a little bit of
- 37:54Speaker 10: time to do it. And I think may can buy
- 37:56Speaker 10: that time.
- 37:58Speaker 4: I don't know if I want to empty the clip
- 38:00Speaker 4: just yet, because it's all just.
- 38:04Speaker 10: You all.
- 38:05Speaker 4: You just did it just by watching, which is impressive.
- 38:07Speaker 10: That's kind of what you know.
- 38:10Speaker 6: So there is a handful of things about this Texans
- 38:13Speaker 6: defense that is phenomenal. It's a really good defense. I'm
- 38:16Speaker 6: not trying to come here and say.
- 38:17Speaker 10: I'm not either. I'm not tellingrated because I don't think
- 38:20Speaker 10: I didn't see anything that was over rated last night.
- 38:22Speaker 6: There's a couple of things though, just underneath the hood
- 38:25Speaker 6: about their defense that I think Drake may can exploit.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Uh.
- 38:29Speaker 6: They're fourteenth in the league and explosive pass plays allowed not,
- 38:34Speaker 6: which is middle.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Of the pack.
- 38:35Speaker 6: So for a number one defense in the league, you
- 38:37Speaker 6: don't expect to see them in the middle of the pack.
- 38:40Speaker 6: So they do give up some big plays over the
- 38:42Speaker 6: top in the passing game. They are number two in
- 38:45Speaker 6: the or thirty first, let's go that way. They're thirty
- 38:48Speaker 6: first in the league against scrambles. Does anybody have any
- 38:52Speaker 6: guess who's thirty two.
- 38:56Speaker 10: Chrodgers?
- 38:56Speaker 4: No?
- 38:57Speaker 10: Oh, I just thought because they just the Broncos down.
- 39:00Speaker 6: The San Francisco forty nine ers who run the same
- 39:02Speaker 6: system that the Texans do.
- 39:05Speaker 10: In depth ball, right, we're connecting tots depth.
- 39:09Speaker 6: This is seems to me because they only rush four guys,
- 39:12Speaker 6: they don't blitz, they only bring.
- 39:14Speaker 8: Four nickel rush four.
- 39:16Speaker 6: Yeah, and when there's only four guys in the rush
- 39:19Speaker 6: and you play a lot of zone, especially soft zone,
- 39:22Speaker 6: there's gonna be space underneath for the quarterback to run.
- 39:26Speaker 6: So they give up a lot of scramble yards. They
- 39:29Speaker 6: give up a lot of you know, decent amount of
- 39:31Speaker 6: big plays in terms of.
- 39:32Speaker 3: What about it When I when you said they're thirty
- 39:36Speaker 3: first against the scrap, I thought you meant scramble and
- 39:38Speaker 3: then big play.
- 39:40Speaker 5: But you talking about actual rushing rushing yards.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Okay, not not not design quarterback off of scrambles.
- 39:46Speaker 6: No, not like not like scrambled drills or extended plays.
- 39:49Speaker 6: I'm talking about actual rushing yards by the quarterback. So
- 39:53Speaker 6: scrambled not good, deep passes middle of the pack, but
- 39:58Speaker 6: for a defense that good, not particularly great. The other
- 40:02Speaker 6: thing that I look at with them, too is can
- 40:05Speaker 6: the Patriots get them to play some more bass by
- 40:08Speaker 6: going six to zero line, and that of course would
- 40:11Speaker 6: then give you an extra guy on the line of
- 40:12Speaker 6: scrimmage to help you pass protect as well, and which.
- 40:16Speaker 10: They did a little bit in the second half where
- 40:17Speaker 10: you said that they sort of got going. They was
- 40:19Speaker 10: more Munford in the second half. That certainly in the
- 40:22Speaker 10: first I don't even remember.
- 40:23Speaker 5: I hate when you have to do that, but I
- 40:25Speaker 5: know you have to sometimes.
- 40:26Speaker 6: Yeah, and that that some teams have found some success
- 40:31Speaker 6: doing that against them going big, getting them to go
- 40:34Speaker 6: big against it, and then passing out of the jumbo set.
- 40:39Speaker 10: So yeah, it's not. And then I think you're talking
- 40:41Speaker 10: about like you hate when you have to do that,
- 40:42Speaker 10: like you're max protecting. It's not necessarily because you're worried
- 40:46Speaker 10: as much about the rush. You're trying to get the
- 40:47Speaker 10: defense to be in the personnel groups that you want
- 40:50Speaker 10: them to be in. Right, You're trying to adjust their
- 40:52Speaker 10: personnel groups. And I think that works because I think
- 40:55Speaker 10: Evan's right. I think a couple of the big again,
- 40:59Speaker 10: I'm just trying to remain I think the forty two
- 41:01Speaker 10: yard or the booty down the sideline was one of
- 41:03Speaker 10: those plays. And I think a touchdown yep, both of
- 41:06Speaker 10: them are one of those plays.
- 41:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:07Speaker 6: So so it's not just like we're going to power
- 41:10Speaker 6: up and run the balls of dust because we're trying
- 41:13Speaker 6: to keep them at bay.
- 41:15Speaker 10: No, they're they're trying to throw some haymakers.
- 41:17Speaker 6: One of the more underrated players in their defense is
- 41:19Speaker 6: Jalen Petrie, who is really really good and he plays
- 41:22Speaker 6: the nickel, so when you get them into base he
- 41:25Speaker 6: plays more of like a traditional safety, and so then
- 41:28Speaker 6: they can get linebackers in safeties that aren't exactly the
- 41:32Speaker 6: better cover guys into coverage situations. So just some of
- 41:37Speaker 6: the things that you look at with this Texans defense,
- 41:41Speaker 6: just last one. They are very stagnant defense. They just
- 41:45Speaker 6: do what they do. They line up and play. They
- 41:47Speaker 6: don't disguise, they don't disguise pressure, they don't disguise in
- 41:51Speaker 6: the back end. This is one of the simplest defenses
- 41:54Speaker 6: that they'll face all year. They're just really really good
- 41:56Speaker 6: at it, and they have great players. But when you
- 42:00Speaker 6: go up against a great play caller like Josh McDaniels,
- 42:03Speaker 6: if you're just gonna sit in the same coverages all
- 42:06Speaker 6: game long, I like your chances, Like I like your
- 42:08Speaker 6: chances of him finding ways to scheme guys open. So
- 42:11Speaker 6: I do think there are some things that are a
- 42:14Speaker 6: little bit weaknesses for the Texans that the Patriots can exploit.
- 42:18Speaker 7: Yeah, it's just gonna say watching some of the Seattle game,
- 42:21Speaker 7: I mean, they don't have JSM, but JSN had success
- 42:23Speaker 7: downfield against them.
- 42:24Speaker 8: I mean, I know.
- 42:25Speaker 7: He's the best receiver in the league, so not apples apples,
- 42:28Speaker 7: But that was something I noticed too, that if you
- 42:30Speaker 7: can get it up there, that they can be had.
- 42:32Speaker 10: That was also very early in the year, when they
- 42:34Speaker 10: weren't the Texans yet. I mean they were one in five.
- 42:37Speaker 10: I think they were Owen three to one and five.
- 42:39Speaker 8: Yeah, it was a good game.
- 42:41Speaker 10: We're around here. We throw away the Raiders and Steelers games,
- 42:44Speaker 10: right right, So I'm sure that the you know, Matt
- 42:48Speaker 10: Burke and the Texans defense throws away you know, a
- 42:51Speaker 10: lot of September too. They didn't get off to a
- 42:53Speaker 10: great start.
- 42:53Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean you.
- 42:54Speaker 7: Talk about a team though, that's that's played in a
- 42:56Speaker 7: lot of tough environments. I mean they played a number
- 42:58Speaker 7: of playoffs teams this year. They played in Seattle, they
- 43:01Speaker 7: obviously played in Campas.
- 43:02Speaker 10: Numbers on that later. Yeah, No, you're right everything you
- 43:06Speaker 10: just said. I think they've played eight games against teams
- 43:10Speaker 10: with more than ten wins.
- 43:11Speaker 8: Yeah. Yeah, Buffalo Chargers twice, Denver twice.
- 43:16Speaker 10: Here somewhere Seattle, Max.
- 43:18Speaker 5: And Santa Barbara writes in First Off, Unlike Paul I too,
- 43:21Speaker 5: like Fred root for the other team's injuries.
- 43:24Speaker 10: I don't root for any injury.
- 43:26Speaker 5: I love when mahomes leg got twisted.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Remember the Chiefs purposely took out Brady in September two
- 43:30Speaker 3: thousand and seven. Plus they lied that Super Bowl when
- 43:33Speaker 3: they claimed Mahomes had a high ankle sprain.
- 43:36Speaker 5: Yet he ran around no problem.
- 43:38Speaker 3: What ped did they allow him to be shot up
- 43:40Speaker 3: with Gronk had that played very few snaps in Super
- 43:43Speaker 3: Bowl forty six. Anyway, I don't know why, but this
- 43:45Speaker 3: win for me was as sweet as thirty six or
- 43:47Speaker 3: fifty one. Paul, drink real sugar PEPSI. The artificial sweetener
- 43:52Speaker 3: is way worse for you.
- 43:53Speaker 10: That's a myth, much like the rest of your email.
- 43:58Speaker 3: Nice Let's see what do we got here? Oh, let's
- 44:02Speaker 3: go to Alex in San Diego. What's up, Alex?
- 44:06Speaker 9: Hey, guys, what a game?
- 44:08Speaker 19: You know, I'm twenty eight years old and I grew
- 44:10Speaker 19: up with the team that was just always good, and
- 44:12Speaker 19: you know, just being bad these last couple of years.
- 44:14Speaker 19: It made me really thankful for moments like Sunday. But yeah, anyway,
- 44:18Speaker 19: I don't know if anything else came out from this,
- 44:20Speaker 19: whether it was reports or interviews, but your thoughts on
- 44:24Speaker 19: why Vrabel went for the extra point after the Loan
- 44:26Speaker 19: touchdown the other day because the lead was twelve, and
- 44:30Speaker 19: I just see way more of a benefit making the
- 44:32Speaker 19: lead fourteen and thirteen. But either way, the game was
- 44:35Speaker 19: probably over when they scored that touchdown anyway.
- 44:37Speaker 3: But so anyway, Yeah, he was asked the question and
- 44:40Speaker 3: he kind of didn't answer it.
- 44:42Speaker 10: So yeah, go ahad Pabably. I think their translation was
- 44:46Speaker 10: I messed that one up. I think I think the
- 44:49Speaker 10: way he started to talk about it sort of was
- 44:52Speaker 10: an indication to me that, yeah, I know what you're
- 44:55Speaker 10: talking about, and maybe we should have done it. Fred
- 44:58Speaker 10: was talking about this in the post game show, and
- 45:03Speaker 10: he eventually got to try to do some of the
- 45:05Speaker 10: stuff that you're talking about. He's counting possessions, right, and
- 45:08Speaker 10: he's sort of going, well, if it's twelve. He was
- 45:12Speaker 10: talking about the possibility of three possessions. So if you
- 45:16Speaker 10: make it twelve, if you don't get the two and
- 45:18Speaker 10: then they score a touchdown, they make it five. Now
- 45:20Speaker 10: if we kick a field goal, we're only up eight
- 45:22Speaker 10: and it's still one score and not nine, which is
- 45:25Speaker 10: kind of I think what you were getting at. I
- 45:27Speaker 10: just didn't think there was enough possessions left in the
- 45:29Speaker 10: game to realistically, with nine minutes left, the Chargers are
- 45:32Speaker 10: going to get down the field and score a touchdown.
- 45:34Speaker 10: You're going to now go down the field and kick
- 45:36Speaker 10: a field goal, and there's going to be enough time. Like, Yeah,
- 45:40Speaker 10: I didn't know. I think they would have gone for
- 45:43Speaker 10: two if they had to do that over again. I
- 45:47Speaker 10: don't think it was an enormous problem because of the
- 45:50Speaker 10: way the defense was playing at the time. But yeah,
- 45:54Speaker 10: I think the way he answered it told me that, Yeah,
- 45:57Speaker 10: I think we might have messed that one.
- 45:58Speaker 6: My tinfoil hot theory. They have a really good two
- 46:01Speaker 6: point play and they didn't want to burn it because well.
- 46:05Speaker 10: They don't have to burn it, use another one, us
- 46:08Speaker 10: another one.
- 46:08Speaker 6: They only have so many. I don't think that they
- 46:11Speaker 6: were scoring fourteen points and I would completely agree with that.
- 46:16Speaker 10: And the point that I made was like, we know
- 46:18Speaker 10: the game is over, yeah, you know, because of their
- 46:20Speaker 10: media nerds sitting around watching the game. You know, we
- 46:24Speaker 10: we've watched forty fifty, you know, fifty minutes of play
- 46:28Speaker 10: and they have three points. They're not scoring fourteen in
- 46:31Speaker 10: the last ten, right, But the coach can't do that.
- 46:34Speaker 10: Coach can't just say well, you know, and he was
- 46:36Speaker 10: talking about sudden change, you know, like that was the
- 46:39Speaker 10: only way that they could lose, which is why I
- 46:41Speaker 10: was annoyed with the strip sack that May took with
- 46:45Speaker 10: a sixteen to three lead, Like that's basically the only
- 46:48Speaker 10: way you can lose. And that ball bounced up. Not
- 46:51Speaker 10: only he got strip sacked, that was on a platter
- 46:53Speaker 10: for someone and Jared Wilson fortunately was the one who
- 46:56Speaker 10: caught the bounce. Yeah, if that's if that's a charger,
- 46:59Speaker 10: who can that bounce? That might be a touchdown and
- 47:02Speaker 10: that's the only way you can get in trouble.
- 47:04Speaker 6: Yeah, they dropped the end out to Diggs's side. He
- 47:07Speaker 6: wasn't expecting the end to drop out and he dropped.
- 47:09Speaker 6: He wanted to throw the slant to Digs and the
- 47:12Speaker 6: end just dropped right underneath the slant and so he
- 47:14Speaker 6: just pulled it down and you know, to Paul's point,
- 47:16Speaker 6: like just turtle, like just go down, you know, like
- 47:19Speaker 6: especially with that lead, and.
- 47:21Speaker 5: Just throw it in the ground.
- 47:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it was he got.
- 47:24Speaker 10: The grounding would have been better, he got.
- 47:26Speaker 4: He got fooled by it.
- 47:27Speaker 7: That was funny when some of those guys were dropping
- 47:28Speaker 7: out that they were like like doing this, like I mean,
- 47:31Speaker 7: I don't know, maybe I just never noticed it before,
- 47:33Speaker 7: but I was like, are you trying to tell him
- 47:35Speaker 7: you're there?
- 47:35Speaker 8: Or you wanted to throw it to you? You know,
- 47:37Speaker 8: like I'm over, I'm open.
- 47:38Speaker 4: I mean, they were dropping tard out.
- 47:39Speaker 6: He's three hundred and forty pounds and they're dropping him
- 47:41Speaker 6: out over the middle of the field to take away
- 47:43Speaker 6: the the inside.
- 47:45Speaker 4: I mean, the they had some good stuff the Chargers.
- 47:47Speaker 5: Joseph's in North Carolina. I hate Joseph.
- 47:52Speaker 9: Good afternoon.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Twenty one. I'm very glad to be back in this position.
- 47:59Speaker 9: The Pats are back. I just have a couple of things.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I think we actually really match up well against the Texans.
- 48:07Speaker 2: The Texans kind of remind me or the Patriots remind
- 48:10Speaker 2: me of the Texans from like two years ago. Texans
- 48:13Speaker 2: always have had a good defense. It's really just been CJ. Stroud,
- 48:17Speaker 2: how he's gonna do. He's younger. I think we line
- 48:21Speaker 2: up good, and you guys mentioned it. The X factor,
- 48:23Speaker 2: I really think will be Josh McDaniels, how he what
- 48:26Speaker 2: place he calls. I think that Steelers game. It was
- 48:30Speaker 2: just very bland. If the Steelers were gonna run, they
- 48:33Speaker 2: were gonna run, They're gonna pass, they were gonna pass.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I feel like everyone could predict what they were going
- 48:37Speaker 2: to do. So my question is this, is it gonna
- 48:42Speaker 2: be Mike mcdan or Josh McDaniels or I think Hunter
- 48:45Speaker 2: Henry has a real big play in this game. Very
- 48:48Speaker 2: underrated past block get away from it. And I think
- 48:51Speaker 2: Drake May's athletics athleticism is going.
- 48:55Speaker 9: To help us win this game.
- 48:56Speaker 5: Yeah, doesn't it every week?
- 48:57Speaker 7: I mean, everything Paul and Evan were saying just to
- 49:00Speaker 7: me is if it's not there, go you know, this
- 49:03Speaker 7: is one game where you don't dig around trying to
- 49:06Speaker 7: get to the third and fourth reads like they might
- 49:08Speaker 7: be susceptible to the scrambles, and don't be a hero
- 49:11Speaker 7: and you know, go down, don't try to point.
- 49:13Speaker 10: He's going to need to play really well.
- 49:14Speaker 8: It's not going to right one hundred percent, but it's
- 49:16Speaker 8: not going to be.
- 49:17Speaker 7: You know, one of these games where it's, oh, you're
- 49:19Speaker 7: gonna have a chance to make some points up, Like
- 49:21Speaker 7: I think points are going to be at a premium.
- 49:23Speaker 7: Live to Fight another day, but I mean, I just again,
- 49:26Speaker 7: I felt great last week coming in with Josh McDaniels.
- 49:29Speaker 7: I feel great again, he's seen it all. I mean,
- 49:31Speaker 7: I don't know how you feel about it. I just
- 49:33Speaker 7: I kind of made the comparison to the old Indie defense,
- 49:35Speaker 7: which not different schemes, but it was still really fast,
- 49:39Speaker 7: do what we're going to do. But they're they're going
- 49:42Speaker 7: to do it, you know, like you know what they're
- 49:43Speaker 7: going to do. So I love Josh's experience and ability
- 49:47Speaker 7: to look at that defense and say, Drake.
- 49:49Speaker 3: May, is there anywhere on the Patriots offense where they
- 49:52Speaker 3: have the matchup advantage over the Texans deef.
- 49:55Speaker 8: My little remander, I would say in the passing game.
- 49:57Speaker 7: I don't know, that's been something I've heard a couple
- 49:58Speaker 7: of times in the analysis of especially.
- 50:00Speaker 10: With to coverage all over.
- 50:03Speaker 4: Well last night, well he was one of those Steelers
- 50:05Speaker 4: best players.
- 50:06Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, but I mean that's what going into the game,
- 50:08Speaker 7: some of the preduchers saying they should try.
- 50:10Speaker 6: To get get them on that one third down but
- 50:13Speaker 6: it fell. Yeah, but yeah, I would agree and know,
- 50:16Speaker 6: especially if they play all that quarters coverage with the
- 50:18Speaker 6: two high safeties, so the matchup is you know, usually
- 50:21Speaker 6: a linebacker on a running back or the slot receiver
- 50:23Speaker 6: right over the middle of the field. Uh And that
- 50:26Speaker 6: is one area. And that's why I was talking about
- 50:28Speaker 6: trying to get them into base because if you can
- 50:30Speaker 6: get Petrie out of the slot and you can get
- 50:33Speaker 6: them with you know, linebackers on the field, I think
- 50:35Speaker 6: that that's how you can throw on them a little bit.
- 50:38Speaker 6: Uh So I would expect the Patriots to try to
- 50:40Speaker 6: whether it's twelve or it's you know, six O line
- 50:42Speaker 6: or whatever the case may be, just try to get
- 50:44Speaker 6: them to blink and put the big guys out on
- 50:46Speaker 6: the field. But I I like their chances as much
- 50:51Speaker 6: as you possibly could against maybe the best defense in
- 50:54Speaker 6: the league, because I think that they really are kind
- 50:57Speaker 6: of stagnant, do what you do defense, And I just
- 51:00Speaker 6: really like Josh McDaniels in that kind of matchup.
- 51:03Speaker 3: I think he's gonna be the advantage of McDaniels. Then, yeah,
- 51:05Speaker 3: that's the answer to the question.
- 51:07Speaker 6: Well, because I think McDaniel's just gonna call a lot
- 51:09Speaker 6: of beaters for the types of coverages that the Texans
- 51:11Speaker 6: really like to run. And I like their odds of
- 51:15Speaker 6: getting some guys open. You know, especially if Texans play zone.
- 51:18Speaker 6: You know, if they come in and play Mann, I'm
- 51:19Speaker 6: a little bit more concerned.
- 51:21Speaker 7: I think that I'm just gonna say, last point, the
- 51:23Speaker 7: bigger thing, and we've all been touching on, is the
- 51:25Speaker 7: secondary guy's got to step up after digs and you're
- 51:27Speaker 7: gonna need more.
- 51:27Speaker 8: Production, especially in the middle of the field.
- 51:29Speaker 7: To your point, Fred, you know de Mario Douglas, can
- 51:32Speaker 7: we get him involved a little bit more? I just
- 51:34Speaker 7: I think it was obviously they missed mac Collins in
- 51:36Speaker 7: this game. I think he was one of the underrated
- 51:39Speaker 7: kind of guys that Drake likes to throw to, especially.
- 51:42Speaker 6: Against zone, you know, and you kind of just sit
- 51:44Speaker 6: in those soft spots and big target in the middle
- 51:46Speaker 6: of the field.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Cassie and Georgia.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Everyone likes to talk about the Patriots strength of schedules,
- 51:50Speaker 3: So let's talk about the Texans, but specifically the offenses
- 51:54Speaker 3: they have faced. The losses they have have were against
- 51:58Speaker 3: good offenses, but the second half of the schedule when
- 52:00Speaker 3: they made their run, have been against some teams with
- 52:03Speaker 3: subpar offenses.
- 52:05Speaker 10: Okay, so just wondering who do you think is the
- 52:08Speaker 10: good offenses. I don't got to think the Rams are
- 52:11Speaker 10: any good. I think the Rams have a good.
- 52:13Speaker 8: Offense, pretty good Rams Seahawks.
- 52:15Speaker 10: They lost, He's right, fourteen points.
- 52:19Speaker 7: Yeah right, you don't get the twenty on this team.
- 52:21Speaker 7: They given up over twenty points twice.
- 52:23Speaker 10: You know, Jacksonville pretty good offense this year, right, seventeen
- 52:27Speaker 10: they lost. He's right, they lost to the good offenses.
- 52:31Speaker 10: But that's the kind of game that I think the
- 52:32Speaker 10: Patriots are gonna win. And I just you know, I
- 52:35Speaker 10: know Fretz already declared this game is over. We're onto
- 52:37Speaker 10: the AFC Championship.
- 52:38Speaker 5: I'm with them.
- 52:39Speaker 10: I think the Patriots are gonna win this game. But
- 52:42Speaker 10: I don't think it's going to be like the last
- 52:44Speaker 10: time I did this, I was very wrong and I said,
- 52:46Speaker 10: I don't think. I don't see a six to three
- 52:48Speaker 10: game at the half, And here we were in a
- 52:49Speaker 10: six to three game at the half. I don't see
- 52:51Speaker 10: the Patriots putting forty eight on the board. I just like,
- 52:53Speaker 10: I think this defense is good.
- 52:55Speaker 8: Yeah, it's very good.
- 52:56Speaker 10: I think that if defenses are beatable, all defenses are beatable,
- 53:00Speaker 10: you should be able to get into the twenties. I
- 53:02Speaker 10: know they're really good, but you've got to get to
- 53:03Speaker 10: the twenties.
- 53:04Speaker 4: If you can get to twenty.
- 53:06Speaker 6: Stroud has not played well and so the one thing
- 53:10Speaker 6: was Stroud too. I know we have, you know, a
- 53:12Speaker 6: lot more time to talk about this, but I expect
- 53:15Speaker 6: the Patriots to blitz the crap out of them because
- 53:18Speaker 6: you know, that seems.
- 53:19Speaker 8: To make a great decision.
- 53:20Speaker 6: Yeah, that seems to be is kryptonite right now, is pressure.
- 53:23Speaker 6: And you know the Chargers got them the entire second
- 53:26Speaker 6: half of that game with a lot of pressure. So
- 53:29Speaker 6: just like they did against Justin Herbert, you know on
- 53:31Speaker 6: Sunday night, I expect this very similar game plan.

- 55:59Speaker 8: Great holly here?
- 56:02Speaker 6: When it comes to your next opponent, we'll each start
- 56:05Speaker 6: work on both teams tonight or wait till you know.
- 56:09Speaker 13: I mean, we have to again. There's two things here
- 56:12Speaker 13: that we're working on today. We have to be able to,
- 56:16Speaker 13: you know, identify some things that we can, you know,
- 56:19Speaker 13: reasonably try to correct and enhance. And then the other
- 56:26Speaker 13: one is looking you know you know, trying to prepare
- 56:28Speaker 13: for an opponent that we won't know who it is
- 56:31Speaker 13: until tonight, so we'll have to do work on both
- 56:33Speaker 13: teams and we'll have to be ready to go. And
- 56:36Speaker 13: that's just how it is.
- 56:39Speaker 10: Like I think Williams is well, a few players you
- 56:42Speaker 10: have signs off season where you simaily have an history coaching.
- 56:45Speaker 10: You know, on the staff, the view of things is leadership, toughness,
- 56:50Speaker 10: things that you've seen from Emboos.
- 56:52Speaker 13: Yeah, but we did a lot of work on Milt
- 56:55Speaker 13: coming out and like a lot of teams, but you know,
- 56:58Speaker 13: I would say that everything that we thought of him
- 57:02Speaker 13: coming out is exactly what we saw in Philadelphia and
- 57:06Speaker 13: then saw here and so you know, I think his
- 57:10Speaker 13: consistency has been really good, his leadership and you know,
- 57:14Speaker 13: certainly has come up in big moments.
- 57:17Speaker 10: Mike Merschter Noble Cama Hot Chase before this year, so
- 57:21Speaker 10: how pressed you then his.
- 57:22Speaker 13: Potorships again, probably did some work on him coming out,
- 57:29Speaker 13: you know, went through a process there in the off season,
- 57:31Speaker 13: and you know cases, you know, one of those players
- 57:36Speaker 13: that have been a couple of different places, and I
- 57:41Speaker 13: was trying to make the best decision for him and
- 57:43Speaker 13: his family and his career, which I can appreciate. So yeah,
- 57:49Speaker 13: went back and forth and there was talks and conversations,
- 57:52Speaker 13: and I was glad that he was uh willing to
- 57:56Speaker 13: join us, and you know, glad he's had success and
- 57:59Speaker 13: he has done it, done a great job, and you
- 58:02Speaker 13: know we'll need all those efforts moving forward. But you
- 58:05Speaker 13: know he's into it. He's he's here a lot and
- 58:10Speaker 13: fought through the bumps and the bruises of an NFL season.
- 58:14Speaker 13: And yeah, so again all the credit goes to him.
- 58:18Speaker 13: But I think that that that wasn't something that was
- 58:21Speaker 13: just cemented on one day. I mean think there was
- 58:25Speaker 13: some conversations, you know, as we worked through free agency
- 58:28Speaker 13: and what his plans were and what the vision that
- 58:31Speaker 13: we had for a lot to talk.
- 58:33Speaker 10: To student about strength of schedule.
- 58:36Speaker 4: What is it when last night just leaning the team
- 58:39Speaker 4: means the season.
- 58:40Speaker 13: Leans, we get to keep playing. So if that's what
- 58:41Speaker 13: that means, it means we're not on vacation.
- 58:45Speaker 12: Mikeut Fort is timing h maybe even just reps, getting
- 58:50Speaker 12: reps together for those guys up front. For you defensively,
- 58:54Speaker 12: think you're running those those three main games of picking
- 58:56Speaker 12: the stripsack yesterday. Do those guys eat a lot of
- 58:59Speaker 12: reps together those things to work well?
- 59:01Speaker 13: I just think that there's a lot of you know,
- 59:04Speaker 13: the more that you can work with the guy next
- 59:06Speaker 13: to you, I think the better. Sometimes it's you're getting
- 59:10Speaker 13: a different look based on their protection or do they
- 59:15Speaker 13: jump you, do they soft seid? Are they sliding? Whatever
- 59:19Speaker 13: it may be. So the more that you know you
- 59:22Speaker 13: can get a look at those things and be able
- 59:25Speaker 13: to work with the guy next to you, how the
- 59:26Speaker 13: guys setting it up, how your guys blocking you, and
- 59:31Speaker 13: your ability to get where you need to get to. So,
- 59:36Speaker 13: the more reps that we can get at any type
- 59:38Speaker 13: of you know, combination with more than one player is important,
- 59:43Speaker 13: whether that's a route concept with two guys, or pass
- 59:47Speaker 13: rush games or offensive line or blocking. I think any
- 59:52Speaker 13: time that you're dealing with with two players that have
- 59:54Speaker 13: a responsibility or more players, the more.
- 59:58Speaker 10: Reps the better.
- 1:00:00Speaker 13: You had a few guys last night came back after
- 1:00:03Speaker 13: a kind of extended previorly a lefloppers.
- 1:00:04Speaker 10: How do you look particular?
- 1:00:07Speaker 13: How yeah?
- 1:00:08Speaker 10: I mean I thought he yelled up.
- 1:00:09Speaker 13: Okay, I think that they you know, there's gonna be
- 1:00:11Speaker 13: some plays that he's going to want to improve on
- 1:00:13Speaker 13: and game conditioning and all those things and emotion and
- 1:00:18Speaker 13: but we got we got great efforts from everybody, and
- 1:00:21Speaker 13: you know, Robert and Harold who hadn't been out there,
- 1:00:28Speaker 13: you know, helped us win.
- 1:00:29Speaker 8: They're all part of his victory. While of your.
- 1:00:31Speaker 23: Downfield success in the passing game came from some heavier groupings.
- 1:00:34Speaker 23: What were the charters doing that maybe made it tougher
- 1:00:36Speaker 23: to get downfield from their lighter personnel And what were
- 1:00:39Speaker 23: the advantages that you saw in some of those base effages.
- 1:00:42Speaker 13: Well, they rush and you know, they've got a good front,
- 1:00:45Speaker 13: and further, you want to throw the ball downfield the
- 1:00:49Speaker 13: longer that you have to protect. And you know, I
- 1:00:52Speaker 13: think they play certainly a very good pass defense and
- 1:00:56Speaker 13: different shells and whether they're man or posts, say, and
- 1:01:00Speaker 13: they're you know, pushing somebody back out there, you know.
- 1:01:06Speaker 13: And again I think that being able to mix up
- 1:01:09Speaker 13: the personnel groups is something that you know, we've tried
- 1:01:11Speaker 13: to do that, other teams try to do no different
- 1:01:14Speaker 13: than the Chargers and early on going in twenty two
- 1:01:18Speaker 13: personnel and trying to get a play action passed out
- 1:01:21Speaker 13: of there and trying to get you know, some route
- 1:01:24Speaker 13: to gats In or something, and so, you know, being
- 1:01:28Speaker 13: able to mix personnel and staying balanced out of each
- 1:01:31Speaker 13: personnel I think is critical.
- 1:01:33Speaker 14: Mike talking about the growth of Andy borg allis from
- 1:01:38Speaker 14: what he dealt with in training camp and adversity a
- 1:01:41Speaker 14: little bit during the year and what sort of automatic
- 1:01:45Speaker 14: a lot of times you know, you know, we're not
- 1:01:47Speaker 14: talking about a kicker.
- 1:01:48Speaker 10: A lot of times he's doing his job. Can you
- 1:01:51Speaker 10: just talk about it?
- 1:01:52Speaker 13: Yeah, I think that first of all, his demeanor I
- 1:01:55Speaker 13: think has been been great. It's been consistent. Just keep
- 1:01:58Speaker 13: kicking and keep learning and practice it and you know,
- 1:02:02Speaker 13: kicking in the elements and kicking on you know, different side.
- 1:02:05Speaker 13: It doesn't really seem the things affect them, you know.
- 1:02:09Speaker 13: So again all the credit to Andy, uh for remaining
- 1:02:13Speaker 13: consistent mentally and made some big kicks for us. So
- 1:02:18Speaker 13: you know, I'm sure that that's helped his confidence. Thought
- 1:02:22Speaker 13: two point conversion after yeah, yeah, obviously some thoughts there,
- 1:02:27Speaker 13: and then you know, just thinking that maybe we'd get
- 1:02:29Speaker 13: a couple more possessions where you know, the field goal
- 1:02:32Speaker 13: could probably get us to eight, but you know, could
- 1:02:36Speaker 13: could easily have have done that, and.
- 1:02:40Speaker 10: Proud of our guys.
- 1:02:41Speaker 13: Really the sudden change all night and situational football was
- 1:02:45Speaker 13: really good. Coach you was here for a lot of
- 1:02:48Speaker 13: big games as uh, his first playoff game in six
- 1:02:51Speaker 13: years here last night, which the scare. I thought it
- 1:02:54Speaker 13: was amazing. I think it starts with our willingness to
- 1:02:59Speaker 13: play to a style. Then our fans appreciate. We've talked
- 1:03:03Speaker 13: about that since, uh since as long as I can
- 1:03:06Speaker 13: remember that if we play to a certain style, and
- 1:03:10Speaker 13: they'll embrace that and they'll they'll they'll cheer for us.
- 1:03:13Speaker 8: I think that.
- 1:03:15Speaker 13: You know what we do here from the stadium perspective
- 1:03:18Speaker 13: and the introductions and the fireworks, and I mean, that's
- 1:03:21Speaker 13: all part of it.
- 1:03:22Speaker 10: And we're at the.
- 1:03:23Speaker 13: Entertainment business and we have to provide things for people
- 1:03:27Speaker 13: to get excited about. So I appreciate the way that
- 1:03:30Speaker 13: our fans have been here, and I appreciate the way
- 1:03:33Speaker 13: that they've traveled, and I can't say nothing about them.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: And now great moments in.
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: History.
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: It is funny like those are the types make a play,
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: Terry Glenn, what are we doing?
- 1:03:47Speaker 10: I can play on the ball.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: Nobody knows what you're talking about.
- 1:03:51Speaker 10: Just through showing Aaron Glenn Highways on NFL Network.
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: Do you know Aaron Glenn was the coach of the Jets.
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: I didn't know that.
- 1:03:58Speaker 8: I didn't know it's true or not, but it is.
- 1:04:00Speaker 10: Seven hates everybody and everything in the.
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: League, especially the seventy Steelers.
- 1:04:05Speaker 10: Oh no, anybody and everything.
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: The way to get me started on the seventy Steiers.
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: I heard the ball boy got into the Pro Football
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: Hall of Fame on the seventies Steelers.
- 1:04:13Speaker 8: That's true.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: You know, us we're trying to you know, the Patriots dynasty.
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: It's like trying to pull teeth.
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: But you know I heard the third string long snapper
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: and the seventy Steelers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- 1:04:25Speaker 8: And the waterboy on the Steelers had like a six
- 1:04:26Speaker 8: gallon jug. He was just walking down with one armhold.
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: Yeah, he's got a bust and can You're right there
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: was too much, uh, too many Steelers got in at
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: that time. I don't know, why would you.
- 1:04:40Speaker 10: Care to elaborate? No, I just think there was which one.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: A lot of all of them, A lot of them.
- 1:04:45Speaker 10: That's what I was getting at. Its all of them.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: All right back here on Patriot's Unfiltered Day five to
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: five past five hundred is the Hotline podcast at Patriots
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: di Com. Is the email address Clayton.
- 1:05:04Speaker 10: Yeah, it was good. It was good. I still hate this,
- 1:05:07Speaker 10: but that was good, solid hate. I like that.
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: If they don't had Vinetarian the Hall of Fame this year,
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: I'm like.
- 1:05:12Speaker 10: Royd Jirella is in though.
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: It was kicker with the Texas playing on Monday, and
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: I would assume traveling Friday, Well that's a bad assumption.
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: Yes to New England.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: What sort of impact does that have on the team
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: preparing for playoff game? Patriots seem to have six days
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: to prepare to the Texans three.
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: And a half or four.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: I think the Texans will come on Saturday. Why would
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: you come on Friday?
- 1:05:33Speaker 10: They have won less day to prepare because they played
- 1:05:35Speaker 10: Monday night.
- 1:05:36Speaker 8: Yeah, it happens.
- 1:05:37Speaker 10: I mean I don't think it should happen the NFL
- 1:05:39Speaker 10: and the playoffs. Should they also not have Monday night games.
- 1:05:44Speaker 6: I'm assuming that their coaching staff might have already been
- 1:05:46Speaker 6: peeking yesterday before the game.
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: Just like we were. Probably I was for both.
- 1:05:51Speaker 10: Yeah, but and even to Evan's point, like the Texans
- 1:05:55Speaker 10: staff didn't have an either or scenario. It's like, we win,
- 1:05:58Speaker 10: were preparing for this team. If we lose, we're not
- 1:06:02Speaker 10: preparing for anybody else. Like that's it. If they win,
- 1:06:05Speaker 10: they played the Patriots, so the preparation, you know, was underway.
- 1:06:10Speaker 10: I'm sure the Patriots probably spent a little more time
- 1:06:14Speaker 10: going over Houston A because they thought they would win
- 1:06:17Speaker 10: B because they've already seen Pittsburgh this year and probably
- 1:06:20Speaker 10: didn't have as much extensively to do. But they did
- 1:06:24Speaker 10: have the either or the Texans didn't. It was all Patriots, right,
- 1:06:28Speaker 10: what else you're doing. We're either going to be on
- 1:06:31Speaker 10: CANCN or we're going to be playing the Patriots.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: Until eight o'clock Monday night and you're just sitting around.
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: But it is unfair to have a team play on
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: Monday night in the playoffs.
- 1:06:43Speaker 7: It's just never going back though, is it like they're
- 1:06:45Speaker 7: never going to start.
- 1:06:46Speaker 10: Making it's too like just just go back to the
- 1:06:50Speaker 10: triple header on Saturday, triple header on Sunday, and then
- 1:06:52Speaker 10: try your best for the winners to play in the
- 1:06:55Speaker 10: same day the following week. So it's even for everybody
- 1:06:58Speaker 10: this team's play that played Sunday, that are playing Saturday
- 1:07:01Speaker 10: teams played Monday playing Sunday. Shouldn't be like that in
- 1:07:05Speaker 10: the playoffs. Everybody should have the same amount of rest,
- 1:07:07Speaker 10: except for the teams that get to buy obviously, Camp
- 1:07:10Speaker 10: Tim and Pensacola.
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: What's up, Tim?
- 1:07:14Speaker 9: Hey, everybody, I know you got a lot of callers.
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: So I just have two quick points. One is a
- 1:07:20Speaker 9: off season idea because I don't get to call a
- 1:07:22Speaker 9: lot because of work. And then the second is a
- 1:07:24Speaker 9: serious question about Drake may So first, I've been listening
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: to this show since I was in high school, all
- 1:07:31Speaker 9: the way up to my last job in the previous
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: administration working in the White House, to my current job.
- 1:07:37Speaker 9: PFW Patriots Unfiltered has always been a constant. So Fred
- 1:07:41Speaker 9: the off season, Yeah, I was an associate director under
- 1:07:44Speaker 9: President Pike. But during the off season, I encourage you
- 1:07:50Speaker 9: all for one episode, just one episode, to bring back
- 1:07:54Speaker 9: TFW in Progress, the old music, Fred Kirsch, Andy Hart,
- 1:07:58Speaker 9: Paul Perillo, Er Scalabino, Kevin behind the Glass doesn't have
- 1:08:04Speaker 9: Marine Corps efficiency, which just made it funnier, And just
- 1:08:07Speaker 9: have one episode of PFW.
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: In Progress, so like a reunion show exactly.
- 1:08:13Speaker 10: Yeah, I like that idea with the music I think
- 1:08:15Speaker 10: I wonder if we can find that.
- 1:08:17Speaker 9: Yeah, mister life, Oh you know what, I might have
- 1:08:21Speaker 9: some old podcast somewhere I can see if I have
- 1:08:23Speaker 9: him off them your way. I'm serious, Okay, my question
- 1:08:29Speaker 9: about Drake May. One thing Paul that I appreciate about
- 1:08:32Speaker 9: you is like you said stuff even when it was unpopular.
- 1:08:36Speaker 9: So you will probably roll your eyes at me, and
- 1:08:38Speaker 9: that's okay. But I want to get everybody's take on this.
- 1:08:41Speaker 9: I think Drake May is an elite quarterback right now.
- 1:08:44Speaker 9: I think his ball placement, his accuracy, his speed, his
- 1:08:48Speaker 9: ability to break tackles to make place, I think he's
- 1:08:51Speaker 9: just gonna get better. But I say he is already
- 1:08:53Speaker 9: an elite quarterback. I can take it off there, but
- 1:08:55Speaker 9: I'd like your thoughts on it.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: I think, well, he's got elite skills, there's no there's
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: no about it. But in order to be an elite
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: quarterback in the NFL, it takes time.
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: You have to prove it over time.
- 1:09:06Speaker 10: Well, I think in twenty MVP of the league in
- 1:09:09Speaker 10: twenty five, he's been an elite quarterback.
- 1:09:11Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't.
- 1:09:11Speaker 10: I really think there's an argument against.
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: That he's an elite quarterback.
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, there's I can't imagine, like, how does
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: he regret.
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: I'm not ready to put him up with the elites
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: of the game, you know, in history.
- 1:09:22Speaker 10: I would put him in history, you know, But this
- 1:09:25Speaker 10: year he's in my top five.
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, no doubt about it.
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: I think he's squarely at the top of Tier two
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: at least, like I still think that, you know, Mahomes,
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: Burrow Allen, and Lamar Jackson are probably in.
- 1:09:36Speaker 10: That likes tier club.
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: I know, you got to be fair. It's one season, yeah, so.
- 1:09:43Speaker 10: That's all I'm judging it on, right But right.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: Now he's elite in this league with elite skills. But
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: in terms of but.
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: I think he showed it all his rookie year.
- 1:09:53Speaker 6: I think his rookie year there are a lot of
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: the same throws are on film that he's making now.
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: He just was in a crappy situation and he was young.
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: Sure, you know, so I.
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: Don't think that this like truly came out of nowhere.
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: I think this was all over his rookie tape too.
- 1:10:07Speaker 6: He just has better coaching and better pieces around him
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: and has a little bit more experience in the league.
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: I just have a tough time thanks to him trying
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: to figure out where he goes backwards, that he would
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: not stay at this level, you know, for the next
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: ten years.
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: And I just put it on the coaching staff this
- 1:10:22Speaker 7: year in the personnel department to continue to build around
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: him and to give him things that fit his game
- 1:10:27Speaker 7: or as you get out of this season, you know.
- 1:10:29Speaker 8: We really would have liked this piece Xyz.
- 1:10:31Speaker 7: I mean I look at the second tight end spot
- 1:10:34Speaker 7: as maybe a spot where you say, let's try to
- 1:10:36Speaker 7: find a young athletic guy who can maybe be t
- 1:10:39Speaker 7: E two next year, but maybe push Hunter Henry a
- 1:10:41Speaker 7: little bit, start to add another dynamic element to the
- 1:10:44Speaker 7: offense for Drake to play with.
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: You and I wouldn't really have a dominant outside receiver yet.
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: Yeah, the only way he could go backwards is if
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: he starts making mental mistakes.
- 1:10:52Speaker 10: But I don't see that happen, and that would be
- 1:10:54Speaker 10: the very slight pushback to what I have said, like,
- 1:10:57Speaker 10: we saw a lot of this stuff last year, right,
- 1:10:59Speaker 10: and it hasn't been that So Yeah, I agree that
- 1:11:02Speaker 10: the highs we saw, but we haven't seen anywhere near
- 1:11:06Speaker 10: the lows that we saw last year. That's to me,
- 1:11:08Speaker 10: which has put him in an elite level. We knew
- 1:11:12Speaker 10: that the skills were there, but last year we saw
- 1:11:15Speaker 10: all the mistakes. A lot of the summer, we saw
- 1:11:19Speaker 10: a lot of these mistakes. They've almost completely disappeared. That's
- 1:11:23Speaker 10: why I'm as critical as I am when he gets
- 1:11:25Speaker 10: stripsacked in the middle of the fourth quarter up thirteen points,
- 1:11:29Speaker 10: because we haven't seen that all year. I know you
- 1:11:31Speaker 10: can do this, because you haven't done it all year.
- 1:11:33Speaker 10: Don't do it now, don't you know? Like the May
- 1:11:36Speaker 10: sprays that Mike talks about the pocket presence that I
- 1:11:39Speaker 10: kind of harp on. I don't want to see the
- 1:11:41Speaker 10: playoffs end because of that. If they're going to end,
- 1:11:44Speaker 10: let the other team shut you down.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: He has irrational confidence.
- 1:11:48Speaker 10: Irrational it is a great way to put it.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: In me and I like, you don't want to take
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: that completely away.
- 1:11:53Speaker 13: Nope.
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: But he has a rational confidence that he can make
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: a play in any situation. And sometimes the right play
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: is just to protect the ball and go down. And
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: for him it's like, Nope, I'm gonna hang on to
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: the last possible second because I'm Drake May and I'm
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: gonna make a play.
- 1:12:08Speaker 10: Here the best kid in the school yard and he
- 1:12:10Speaker 10: feels he can do anything, and I don't want to
- 1:12:12Speaker 10: take that away, and I would just say just to
- 1:12:14Speaker 10: put a bow on it. With those two fumbles on
- 1:12:16Speaker 10: Sunday Sunday night, the first one, I think both of
- 1:12:19Speaker 10: them were he was guilty of exactly what Evan's talking about,
- 1:12:22Speaker 10: the irrational confidence. I can make a play here. The
- 1:12:25Speaker 10: first one I can live with, even though it was
- 1:12:27Speaker 10: in scoring position and they were only up six to
- 1:12:29Speaker 10: three at the time, and that was a big play.
- 1:12:31Speaker 10: I'm not dismissing it, but he's trying to make a
- 1:12:34Speaker 10: play to put points on the board. The second one,
- 1:12:36Speaker 10: the game is kind of over sixteen to three with
- 1:12:41Speaker 10: less than five minutes left in the game. There's only
- 1:12:43Speaker 10: one way I can lose. So that's not a spot
- 1:12:47Speaker 10: I want irrational confidence. That's the spot I want. Let's
- 1:12:50Speaker 10: play this safe, let's just take the loss, and we'll
- 1:12:52Speaker 10: punt live to fight another deck.
- 1:12:54Speaker 8: He gets experienced too.
- 1:12:55Speaker 7: I think that's such a big part of it with
- 1:12:57Speaker 7: I mean, I know Brady talking about the course of
- 1:12:58Speaker 7: his career of going just take the sack. You never
- 1:13:02Speaker 7: I think I've heard cliffs of Josh saying to him
- 1:13:04Speaker 7: like we've never lost a game because we took a sack.
- 1:13:06Speaker 8: You know, those are the kind of This.
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: Is one of those games against the Texans where a
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: punt is.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: Much better than another possible outcome.
- 1:13:15Speaker 6: You know, Like because if you put this offense is
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: Texans offense on long fields, I feel pretty good about
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: your chances. You know, they get points by being on
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: short fields or the defense scoring or whatever the case
- 1:13:25Speaker 6: may be. So but yeah, I mean, like he's got
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: a it's a hard line to walk, Like Josh Allen
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: has the same problem. Like they think they're they're superman,
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: and like sometimes he makes throws and he makes plays
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: that you just go crazy about. But then sometimes he
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: gets caught trying to make plays like that. Any fumbles,
- 1:13:45Speaker 6: you know, and if you want the good ones that yeah.
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: Bradley in Kansas City, Zach Core was commented on by
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: Peter Schrager as part of the Monday and I Countdown
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: And Peter acted like he was a fill in for
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: only this game as the play caller. Can someone tell
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: him he's been our defensive coordinator all season? Dude needs
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: to do some research before talking on national TV.
- 1:14:06Speaker 7: I kind of thought it was a Rolowski too. I
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: heard that clip and Sreger brought him up and then
- 1:14:12Speaker 7: and then and then don't ask you know who?
- 1:14:14Speaker 6: Yeah, Sregar, you haven't heard of the de facto defensive
- 1:14:19Speaker 6: coordinator of the number two seed in the AFC filling in.
- 1:14:21Speaker 8: For the defensive coordinator.
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: I'm sure they can name all the other defensive coordinators
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: right in the playoffs. I mean I probably could, so,
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: I'm sure they could.
- 1:14:30Speaker 10: I couldn't. I know I couldn't.
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: Halfley. Uh, he's out, Doug writes in he's a Green Bay. Yes,
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: defensive coordinators.
- 1:14:40Speaker 10: Oh you mean out of the playoffs.
- 1:14:41Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, it was just one he was naming.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: Right, Doug.
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: Mike Rabil is definitely a heart out For some reason.
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: This doesn't bother me. In fact, I kind of like it.
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: Do you agree?
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: Maybe it's because he's our hard oh, or maybe there
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: is more to it one his playing resume supports it.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: He has always been this way. It's not a recent
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: coaches affection.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: He uses it to improve the team. In other words,
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: not to look at me. It's not an obvious ploy
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: to cover up other coaching deficiencies. It's great to have
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: the team finally more fun to watch, uh than Patriots unfiltered.
- 1:15:17Speaker 10: I just like him.
- 1:15:18Speaker 8: Can I get a definition of hard?
- 1:15:19Speaker 14: Oh?
- 1:15:20Speaker 8: Is that like an act?
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:15:21Speaker 7: It's an act because I don't get a lot of
- 1:15:25Speaker 7: Mike Frables trying really hard to act.
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: Well, this is who he is. He's not doing it.
- 1:15:30Speaker 10: I think he's the epitome of that. But I love him.
- 1:15:32Speaker 10: I think he I think he's great.
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: Yeah saying that that he's like willing to bleed, like
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: let's calm down. But I do think that his his playing,
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: the fact that he's not just not just a former player,
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: but is a former really good player.
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: I do think that that helps.
- 1:15:50Speaker 10: Like just watch him come into the press conference with that,
- 1:15:54Speaker 10: with that shred of.
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: His like that's who like, he's always had it and.
- 1:15:57Speaker 10: That's why I love I've always liked Mike from his
- 1:16:01Speaker 10: playing days.
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: I he's really inuine.
- 1:16:02Speaker 7: He's not, but he's definitely a heart natural.
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: He's our heart.
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: But some of the guys that are hard os, like
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: Jim Harbaugh is like, dude, you were a nice backup quarterback,
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: Like no one's impressed.
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:16:19Speaker 10: Jim Harbaugh is kind of a nerd or Dan Campbell.
- 1:16:21Speaker 10: Dan Campbell like you were a block, but he's absolutely Like.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: A lot of people think the hard thing is to
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: cover up for other coaching deficiencies.
- 1:16:31Speaker 10: Yeah, I don't.
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: I don't either.
- 1:16:32Speaker 10: I think that's just guy's personality.
- 1:16:34Speaker 6: Is I think sary Back in the day, he was
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: kind of quiet, wasn't he until that explosion?
- 1:16:41Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:16:43Speaker 10: Dan Campbell is a good example that that's a heart.
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: I think a lot of Dan Campbell in him.
- 1:16:48Speaker 8: Yeah, Johnsony's a little bit of a heart.
- 1:16:50Speaker 10: Oh, yes, And I think that I think he's kind
- 1:16:52Speaker 10: of a nerd.
- 1:16:52Speaker 6: Now it's coming across well right now because they're winning.
- 1:16:57Speaker 6: But I think that if it didn't like you didn't
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: play like you did, like you're you are supposed to
- 1:17:02Speaker 6: be the nerd, right, So, Like you can say what
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: you want about Mike McDaniel, but at least Mike McDaniel
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: knows who he is, right, He's a Robert Salah hard
- 1:17:12Speaker 6: hard oh, trying to fight Liam Cohen after playing the
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: Jaguars earlier this year, Like.
- 1:17:17Speaker 8: Pretty hard, what do we doing?
- 1:17:20Speaker 7: I know what you guys are saying, but I just
- 1:17:22Speaker 7: I look at hard O as such a like derogatory.
- 1:17:25Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm not saying it as a derogatory thing. I
- 1:17:28Speaker 10: just think that's a personality trait.
- 1:17:30Speaker 6: I just think that it's different when it's coming from
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: a guy that like truly was great as a player,
- 1:17:36Speaker 6: Like it's in the team Hall of Fame, Like that's
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: a different level of like being like he he can
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: back it up. You know, he was a great player.
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: And I think he still has that competent, same.
- 1:17:46Speaker 8: Swag when he's walking the same way across the field
- 1:17:49Speaker 8: as he does when he walks into the press.
- 1:17:50Speaker 10: I think Mike tom wants a bit of a hard Oh.
- 1:17:53Speaker 10: I think the way he kept you know, like you know,
- 1:17:55Speaker 10: the whole all the buzzwords. You know, we want volunteers,
- 1:17:58Speaker 10: not hostages. You know, He's got like a quip for
- 1:18:00Speaker 10: every occasion, you know.
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: I think he's when he after they beat the Ravens
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: and he was doing the chest pounds into the camera like.
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: Dude, you you won on a field goal? Yeah, Like
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: what are we talking about?
- 1:18:12Speaker 7: Is it wrong to say that football is loaded with
- 1:18:15Speaker 7: hard specifically for mancho sports. I think I think a
- 1:18:20Speaker 7: hockey and I'm like that's almost like the opposite, Like
- 1:18:22Speaker 7: they're like hockey players are known as not being hard of.
- 1:18:26Speaker 8: I was a farm boy, you know that kind of thing.
- 1:18:30Speaker 10: Where else other than football? Can you have a heart?
- 1:18:33Speaker 10: Oh punter who is now a celebrity that was watching
- 1:18:36Speaker 10: ESPN and and that hard?
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: Oh that heart? Oh Matt in the in the dictionary
- 1:18:41Speaker 8: when you look it up.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: Mark's in New York, Hey, Mark, Oh, Hi, good question
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: about the Texans and officiating.
- 1:18:50Speaker 24: Saw a lot of gun mimicking celebrations from the Texans,
- 1:18:54Speaker 24: particularly from the receivers after first down. I know it's
- 1:18:58Speaker 24: not the most you know, like the form is shue
- 1:19:00Speaker 24: on anyone's mind, But the NFL says a violent gesture?
- 1:19:04Speaker 24: So why doesn't it consistently get called? And maybe more importantly,
- 1:19:07Speaker 24: is there any mechanism for the past or the media
- 1:19:10Speaker 24: to flag it with officials before the game so it
- 1:19:13Speaker 24: actually gets called and turns into a fifteen yard on sports?
- 1:19:16Speaker 10: And can I ask this question as honestly as I can, Mark,
- 1:19:20Speaker 10: do you do you want a guy who points for
- 1:19:22Speaker 10: a first down to get flagged for making a gun gesture?
- 1:19:25Speaker 10: Do you want that help?
- 1:19:26Speaker 11: That? That?
- 1:19:27Speaker 10: Does that help? I'm not talking about the team. You
- 1:19:29Speaker 10: were talking about the game last night. Does that when
- 1:19:31Speaker 10: you watch a game, do you say to me to yourself?
- 1:19:34Speaker 10: You know what I think we need more of fifteen
- 1:19:37Speaker 10: yard on sportsmanlike conduct penalties. That's something that is as
- 1:19:40Speaker 10: as a fan, as a viewer of the NFL, you
- 1:19:42Speaker 10: think there should be more of.
- 1:19:44Speaker 24: I mean, as a person with a public platform, or
- 1:19:47Speaker 24: you a person who thinks that guns are something that
- 1:19:49Speaker 24: should be given.
- 1:19:49Speaker 10: They're pointing for first downs first of all. But no,
- 1:19:52Speaker 10: I don't, I don't. I'm not offended by any of that.
- 1:19:54Speaker 24: No, they're pumping the shotgun and putting their finger on
- 1:19:56Speaker 24: the trigger, and they're doing with both their hands.
- 1:19:59Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm not offended by that.
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: I mean, the Patriots have musket men for CRYINGO.
- 1:20:03Speaker 10: I'm offended when random people go up to people in
- 1:20:05Speaker 10: cock cars and just bowl them away. That offends me,
- 1:20:07Speaker 10: But someone on a football field doing that doesn't really
- 1:20:10Speaker 10: bother me.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: I don't know if you know, if you violate the rules,
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: should you be flagged?
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: But I don't know. I didn't.
- 1:20:18Speaker 10: Plenty for first downs isn't violating the rule. But I
- 1:20:20Speaker 10: don't want to see that. I think it's a dumb rule.
- 1:20:22Speaker 10: I don't want to see games impacted by moronic.
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: Listen thought Randy Moss wiping his bum on the goalpost
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: was funny.
- 1:20:30Speaker 10: Absolutely, I don't want to see that called either, Mark, Mark.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: Thanks for the call.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: I think he was kidding, right, I don't.
- 1:20:38Speaker 10: I don't. That's why I asked him. Can I honestly
- 1:20:40Speaker 10: ask you a question?
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: Is that they work That was a bit?
- 1:20:42Speaker 10: Maybe maybe maybe he knew I would.
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: Be triggered by it, no pun intended.
- 1:20:48Speaker 10: Yeah, maybe he knew that that would be something that
- 1:20:50Speaker 10: I would respond to. And maybe you're right, maybe it
- 1:20:52Speaker 10: was a he worked me over and now he got
- 1:20:55Speaker 10: one over on me. They do that.
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: He wants a shotgun and then he wants the media
- 1:20:59Speaker 6: to shed light on it so that it gets called
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: on Sunday.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: It can't be a serious call. I'm sorry.
- 1:21:05Speaker 10: I think I think it was serious to be But
- 1:21:08Speaker 10: you know, it's not the first time I've been fooled.
- 1:21:10Speaker 10: Andy Hart once called and made fun of me and
- 1:21:11Speaker 10: I didn't even know it was Andy Hart.
- 1:21:17Speaker 8: Has ever predicted Greg Roman has just been fired.
- 1:21:19Speaker 6: Yeah, that was like, come on, Minros. I mean they
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: had to like do like Jim Harbaugh was gon, it
- 1:21:29Speaker 6: was either going to be Roman or the whole staff
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: was going to get well.
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: I like it that the Patriots are back to getting
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: coaches fired.
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: It was bad. It was bad.
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: What's up, Austin, Austin, Austin, You there, Austin.
- 1:21:45Speaker 8: That's Austin's music.
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: Oh okay, Austin gave up.
- 1:21:49Speaker 9: Uh.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: So we'll go to Pennsylvania where Patrick is. Hey Patrick, Hey, guys.
- 1:21:55Speaker 25: I will be attending my first playoff game of Sunday
- 1:21:57Speaker 25: Agellette tickets back in Thanksgiving or so, so I'm really
- 1:22:01Speaker 25: glad it's actually happening. Wow, they're open for a great game,
- 1:22:04Speaker 25: great weather, and of course will win. But wanted to
- 1:22:07Speaker 25: ask the experts, who are you know, boots on the
- 1:22:09Speaker 25: ground for every game? What's the ideal time to show up?
- 1:22:13Speaker 25: Is the atmosphere like different around.
- 1:22:14Speaker 26: Playoff game that it comes to tailgating?
- 1:22:17Speaker 25: Given the games at three, do you guys think I'm
- 1:22:20Speaker 25: crazy by tell my buddies I want to get there at.
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: Seven seven am, seven am, Well, the lots don't open
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: until four hours before the game.
- 1:22:27Speaker 10: Crazy.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: Sometimes a little earlier.
- 1:22:29Speaker 10: It wouldn't be anybody here for us at seven am.
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: I want to think that's a little early. You can't
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: get into lots any way to tailgate. But you know,
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: if you get here around noon, you know you could
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: do that or even you know, eleven o'clock.
- 1:22:43Speaker 8: Yeah, lots will be open eleven.
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: I appreciate the passion.
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: I mean we haven't We don't get to do that,
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: so I I like, I haven't done it in ten years.
- 1:22:51Speaker 10: Wish I had to tell you. I wish I had
- 1:22:53Speaker 10: a time.
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: I know, the feeling. My first game here, me and
- 1:22:56Speaker 8: my sister were here way too early.
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: Yeah, we I would say, like, you know, usually get
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: here what like two three hours before a kick in,
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: Like the traffic's like sort of starting to pick up
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: around this point.
- 1:23:09Speaker 8: It was more busy this week than than the playoff
- 1:23:11Speaker 8: game then, so.
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: If you're trying to get here before, like it really
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: gets crazy.
- 1:23:14Speaker 10: I think it tends to be busy night games because
- 1:23:18Speaker 10: every while, yeah, every was coming the same time.
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: Yeah, get it at eleven seven am. Jesus, I'm glad
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: we were able to tell him not to do that.
- 1:23:28Speaker 8: What's the Weatherland, It is supposed to be cold too,
- 1:23:30Speaker 8: it might snow.
- 1:23:31Speaker 10: Well.
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: I like what they do in Buffalo where they allow
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: the r vs to come in and park overnight.
- 1:23:35Speaker 10: Really yeah I did that, you did that?
- 1:23:37Speaker 5: I did? Yeah, we should do that one yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: all right, ninety eight.
- 1:23:41Speaker 10: I I think it was ninety eight talking about hard
- 1:23:43Speaker 10: os oh RV.
- 1:23:45Speaker 8: They also fired their offensive line coach.
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: Yeah, that Ell wants to know first.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: He says Evan's cameo on the postgame show was fantastic.
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: We need more postgame Evan. What makes Paul more angry
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: that Drake maye nickname? Or when Chisholm has a more
- 1:24:00Speaker 5: productive game than Pop.
- 1:24:03Speaker 10: I'll let you know when it happens.
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: Wow, a nice twenty yard catch in this game.
- 1:24:08Speaker 10: Yeah, that's true. You got to catch.
- 1:24:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: They were playing cloud to a lot of cloud to
- 1:24:13Speaker 6: the fields, kept throwing those whole shots.
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: No, I'd like to.
- 1:24:16Speaker 7: See more out of Pop. I had a little talk
- 1:24:18Speaker 7: with f this morning, and I just I.
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: Have he's really upset about it.
- 1:24:21Speaker 8: I'm not upset about it.
- 1:24:22Speaker 7: I just I saw Pop get open a little bit
- 1:24:25Speaker 7: and I'm starting to wonder if he's just not really
- 1:24:27Speaker 7: Drake's kind of guy, and it just doesn't really seem
- 1:24:30Speaker 7: to look his way consistently.
- 1:24:32Speaker 10: I do think the catch radius is an issue.
- 1:24:34Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: The Charges also fired their o line coach, Mike Devlin.
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: Did we say that?
- 1:24:39Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, so you're reading an ema.
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: Wasn't listening.
- 1:24:42Speaker 10: I Uh, good, Fred.
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: It's been on my mind a lot with Pop, Like,
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: I don't know, he's he's speedy's fast. He seems like
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: he creates a separation. He's not the best against his
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: own I think that that's a The number one thing is,
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: you know, he's not the best to kind of understand
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: where the soft spots are and where uh you know,
- 1:25:02Speaker 6: settle and things like that. But uh, and then I
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: think the catch radious. Like I think the fact that he's,
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: you know, a smaller guy is a little bit harder
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: to throw too.
- 1:25:11Speaker 10: And I think Drake tends to throw the ball a
- 1:25:13Speaker 10: little bit higher outside. I mean, I think of a
- 1:25:15Speaker 10: lot of catches that we've seen from Henry, uh, from
- 1:25:19Speaker 10: Hooper and from Hollins this year that that you know,
- 1:25:24Speaker 10: the ball was well outside the you know, sort of
- 1:25:26Speaker 10: the torso. And you can't throw those same passes to Douglas.
- 1:25:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I feel a lot of his passes have been
- 1:25:32Speaker 8: more down the field this year.
- 1:25:33Speaker 10: And yeah, you know it's just surprising. But but I
- 1:25:36Speaker 10: don't care if it's if it's Chisholm, if it's Williams,
- 1:25:38Speaker 10: if it's Douglas, They're gonna need somebody to help out
- 1:25:41Speaker 10: Diggs and Booty. Yep, yep, this could be a pop game.
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: You know, I could see Houston playing man. Uh. He
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: had a good game against them last year.
- 1:25:49Speaker 6: And even though the Patriots stuff has changed significantly, Houston
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: really hasn't.
- 1:25:53Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: It's the same defense, same coaching staff. If they play
- 1:25:56Speaker 6: a lot of man coverage, you know, whether it's them
- 1:25:59Speaker 6: or down the road or whatever, like, they're going to
- 1:26:02Speaker 6: have to have somebody that can get open.
- 1:26:04Speaker 10: First touchdown passed. With Drake May's career, does ever anybody remember.
- 1:26:07Speaker 7: Right the bomb behind the booty, bomb behind me? Stingley
- 1:26:11Speaker 7: can beat a point, Parlo take a shot.
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: Jordan writes in It's amazing. This is a good email
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: for Paul.
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: It's amazing how little respect the Patriots have gotten from
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: the national media. All I heard was how Caleb is
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: an elite quarterback, or the forty nine is upsetting the Eagles,
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: But nothing on the Patriots defense absolutely dominating the charges.
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: All I hear is the Patriots haven't beaten anyone. Let's
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: see what happens.
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: But then I thought, of all our best teams had
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: a chip on their shoulder, whether it was the Brady
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: four game suspension year or the Julian telling Tom you're
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: too old, then going on to beat Kansas City on
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: the road. I think this team can hot ride the
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: you haven't beat anyone mantra.
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: All the way to a super Bowl victory. So there
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: you go.
- 1:26:54Speaker 10: Now, that one, I think was what you were talking
- 1:26:56Speaker 10: about with the call.
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: I think so, I mean, I know how you watch
- 1:26:59Speaker 6: that game on Saturday night and not just watch Caleb
- 1:27:02Speaker 6: in the second half and be like that throw he
- 1:27:04Speaker 6: made on fourth down was.
- 1:27:05Speaker 10: He stinks unbelievable.
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: I mean that was crazy.
- 1:27:08Speaker 10: Let me fill you in from two to six on
- 1:27:09Speaker 10: the Sports Up. He stinks.
- 1:27:11Speaker 6: He's got some words to his game, Like he's way
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: more inconsistent than Drake may is right now. But he
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: makes some throws man that on like only a couple
- 1:27:19Speaker 6: guys can make in the league.
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: It was a fun game, yeah, Justin and Brookline. Two
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: critical critical questions for everyone, not just the ball knowers,
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: regarding the defense. One, how did Zach Kerr and the
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: Patriots defense solve the tight end coverage in this game?
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: I feel like Gadsden was blanketed, but I couldn't tell
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: who was on him in coverage.
- 1:27:44Speaker 8: I'll tell you what my opinion of this is.
- 1:27:45Speaker 7: And maybe I'm wrong, but I felt like they were
- 1:27:47Speaker 7: just forcing him to get it out so quick that
- 1:27:50Speaker 7: he just didn't. It's not his favorite guy, you know,
- 1:27:52Speaker 7: it's if he had time to scan the field and
- 1:27:54Speaker 7: get to him.
- 1:27:54Speaker 8: And I think we saw him on one fourth down
- 1:27:56Speaker 8: play he.
- 1:27:57Speaker 7: Did get to him, but they felt like they were
- 1:27:59Speaker 7: four the issue and he really wants to go to
- 1:28:02Speaker 7: lab McConkey. Uh, you know the three receivers that he has,
- 1:28:04Speaker 7: and they just weren't letting him get through it.
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: Yeah, they did.
- 1:28:08Speaker 6: They played a lot of his own so like it
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: wasn't like it was like one particular guy on him
- 1:28:13Speaker 6: the whole time. But one of the things that they
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: did do that I that I liked was they played
- 1:28:17Speaker 6: a little bit more dime defense, you know, six defensive backs,
- 1:28:20Speaker 6: and they put del Pettis on the field a little bit.
- 1:28:23Speaker 6: And del Pettis had a couple of good Man coverage
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: reps against him. But I like it when they put
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: that extra defensive back on the field because you can
- 1:28:30Speaker 6: do something else with the third safety. You know, the
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: third safety can blitz. He can play you know, Robert
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: coverage in the middle of the field. It gives you
- 1:28:37Speaker 6: a lot more flexibility on third down.
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: Also, he wants to know, does anyone else agree that
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: Robert Spalane's voice kind of sounds like the mccordy Twins.
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: Yes. I was thinking that.
- 1:28:50Speaker 8: Just the other night when my head.
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: Now, yeah, close your eyes, it does sound like Devin
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 1:28:56Speaker 6: Out of all of the fifty three guys in that
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: locker room, the one that came out with the fire quote,
- 1:29:01Speaker 6: I would never have guessed would have been Spilling like
- 1:29:04Speaker 6: he's usually so like tight lipped and kind of close
- 1:29:07Speaker 6: to the vest type of guy. And when he gave
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: that response about what the Chargers players were saying, I
- 1:29:13Speaker 6: was like, holy crap, that's what you said that.
- 1:29:15Speaker 8: What was your question exactly? We didn't hear the question
- 1:29:17Speaker 8: we just got.
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: I just asked him, you know, as the guy that
- 1:29:20Speaker 6: was obviously wearing the green dot, like, what was it like,
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: you know here in core call that game?
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: And that's when he just said, you.
- 1:29:27Speaker 7: Know, watching watching spoiling play Like I felt like there
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: was no sign of any kind of ankle injury to
- 1:29:33Speaker 7: me at all, And it made me think that they
- 1:29:35Speaker 7: really probably might have just been like let's just shut
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: you down.
- 1:29:39Speaker 10: Get healthy. The last game for sure, he could have
- 1:29:42Speaker 10: come back for I think they did the same thing
- 1:29:44Speaker 10: with Milton Williams.
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: Yeah, he was.
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: It was just really cool to watch him communicate, Like
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: just watching him pre snap, just direct guys and you know,
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: they shift here and he's you know, moving guys around.
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: You can see him making hand signals to check in
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: and out of things, and you know all their different
- 1:30:01Speaker 6: you know, bunches and trips and all the different checks
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: that they make in a game, and he was just
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: on it.
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: He was just on all of it.
- 1:30:07Speaker 7: I think you can tell a lot about a defense
- 1:30:09Speaker 7: when you watch him and you see the communication like that,
- 1:30:11Speaker 7: and you see how quickly everyone's on the same page.
- 1:30:14Speaker 7: And you'll see other defenses sometimes and you know, even
- 1:30:16Speaker 7: the Patriots defense at times over the years, but you
- 1:30:18Speaker 7: can see that frantic communication right before the snap of
- 1:30:21Speaker 7: his everybody getting the signal, and a lot of times
- 1:30:23Speaker 7: with this Patriots defense when they're on you just see
- 1:30:25Speaker 7: everybody looks, everybody does a thing, and then right back
- 1:30:28Speaker 7: in you can tell that they're all locked in.
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: Nick in Boston writes in I agree with Evan that
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: getting a playoff win helps validate this season. It also
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: helps fight off the Twitter trolls, which is just as important.
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: Of course, since the Texans play a vanilla scheme built
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: on having better players across the board, what is the
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: approach for McDaniels to exploit them?
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: What is the weakness?
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: Also, if Darian Lowe had the game that Campbell had
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: against the Charges, the fan base would be melting down.
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: I think we are seeing his limitations at the highest level.
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: I will wait until the summer or to take my
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: Membo Victory lap.
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: Well, Membo plays right tackle, so that would have really helped.
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: But yeah, they look Campbell struggled in the game, and
- 1:31:12Speaker 6: I'm not like going to say that he didn't. It's
- 1:31:15Speaker 6: not the same as Vidarien Lowe because Darren Lowe is
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: not a rookie playing his first ever playoff game, and
- 1:31:21Speaker 6: isn't it you know, you're not expecting him to improve
- 1:31:24Speaker 6: at all like Campbell. You're hoping that this was a
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: learning experience for him, something that he can grow from
- 1:31:32Speaker 6: and you know, experience for the first time, So you know,
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: I think that was a little bit of the part
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: of why Jared Wilson played in this game too.
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: Like I think that they view both those guys on
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: the left side.
- 1:31:42Speaker 6: I don't know if it's going to be at center
- 1:31:44Speaker 6: guard for Wilson, but they're going to be two starters
- 1:31:48Speaker 6: on this offensive line for at least their rookie contracts.
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: They think, and you hope that you're going to be
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: playing a lot of playoff games, you know, during that
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: span of time, and the only way to get him
- 1:31:58Speaker 6: ready for that is to have him play.
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: You know who deserves you know, kind of uh uh
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: an apology Chisholm. No, Garrett Bradbury coming in, Everyone's like, oh,
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: look at the stats against the past. You know last
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: year with the Vikings, he's going to be terrible. He
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: hasn't been. He's been fine.
- 1:32:15Speaker 10: So I would agree with your assessment of the player's performance.
- 1:32:18Speaker 10: He's been more than fine. I think he's been excellent
- 1:32:21Speaker 10: all season. But do you have to apologize for people
- 1:32:24Speaker 10: who said that he didn't have a good year last.
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: Year because they didn't put it in context?
- 1:32:27Speaker 10: What was the context?
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: If you look close about what was happening during those games,
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: it wasn't.
- 1:32:32Speaker 8: All his fault.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: Okay, this is one of those things where PFF had
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: him here and I watched the game.
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: I watched the game for it was like the past
- 1:32:44Speaker 6: protection for him in his last year in Minnesota was rough.
- 1:32:46Speaker 8: So what happened then? Did you feel like he but
- 1:32:48Speaker 8: he's been really good.
- 1:32:49Speaker 6: I wonder, I wonder how much of it is, you know,
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: system related. You know, guys talk a lot about how
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: streamlined this this system is and the past protection rules
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: are and uh, you know this stuff like that. I mean,
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: this is essentially Dante Scarnekia's system that Josh McDaniel still
- 1:33:08Speaker 6: runs just with it, you know, his own twist on it.
- 1:33:12Speaker 6: So the proof's in the putting of whether it works
- 1:33:15Speaker 6: or not. And I just wonder if maybe that the
- 1:33:18Speaker 6: system change helped him out a little bit. But I mean,
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: Paul's right, like last year in Minnesota was tough, like
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: but this year was definite.
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: Like his whole career hasn't been like that.
- 1:33:29Speaker 6: He's never been like a great pass protector, becaus a
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: little bit under sized, but last year was particularly bad.
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: Into his credit, he's bounced back and he I think
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: at this point, you know him and Moses, I thought
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: Moses was probably their best lineman in this game. On
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: Sunday night. You know, you probably want to bring those
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: guys back for another year and keep it rolling if
- 1:33:48Speaker 6: you can.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: Yeah, uh so then.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: But the reason I thought of that is, you know,
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: you talked about Jared Wilson, like, if the ultimate plan
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: is to move him at center, how long are you
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: going to delay that?
- 1:33:57Speaker 6: I know, I know it's a good question, and I
- 1:33:59Speaker 6: I think Jared Wilson's the center. I think it just
- 1:34:02Speaker 6: fits his body type better, and it fits his skill
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: set better because he is a little bit undersized to
- 1:34:06Speaker 6: play guard and gets pushed around a little bit at
- 1:34:08Speaker 6: guard by some of the bigger defensive tackles. So I
- 1:34:11Speaker 6: would move him to center if they can, But Bradberry's
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: been so solid that it is a tough decision.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: Miles writes in something that bugged me on Sunday. All
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: day during the morning and afternoon games, the NFL was
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: using the virtual spot assist on close calls for first downs.
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: Then the Patriots game comes on and Herbert I think
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: reaches through on a third down and the rest felt
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: like he reached his arm out in the pile to
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: get the first Even the comment commentators didn't think he
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: got it. The play didn't end up mattering. I'm just
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: curious what constitutes the use of the spot assist feature
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: and why they couldn't just use it.
- 1:34:47Speaker 10: There so two different things. I would agree that I
- 1:34:51Speaker 10: thought that that was a curious reversal of their original
- 1:34:55Speaker 10: call that he had made the line to gain the
- 1:35:00Speaker 10: problem the virtual assist, the ball was spotted wherever it's spotted,
- 1:35:04Speaker 10: and then they virtually assisted to see if he got
- 1:35:06Speaker 10: the first down. That wasn't in question where they put
- 1:35:08Speaker 10: the ball got the first down. The question was did
- 1:35:12Speaker 10: they put the ball in the right spot? Did Herbert
- 1:35:15Speaker 10: get where? You know, as far as they spotted the ball,
- 1:35:18Speaker 10: and I think the Collinsworth and in Tariico felt like
- 1:35:22Speaker 10: they didn't. I think we all kind of felt in
- 1:35:24Speaker 10: the press box that didn't really seem like it was
- 1:35:26Speaker 10: definitive that he had reached the line the game, right,
- 1:35:29Speaker 10: I mean, speaking for you, Yes, I didn't think he
- 1:35:31Speaker 10: got the first.
- 1:35:32Speaker 7: Down when we were they call it short. They called
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: it short and they reversed it correct.
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: Yeah, which I think is crazy.
- 1:35:38Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean it didn't not care, you know, let
- 1:35:39Speaker 10: me well.
- 1:35:41Speaker 7: And then they had another one where the the whole
- 1:35:43Speaker 7: virtual assist is not needed, the whole virtualist.
- 1:35:46Speaker 10: He was past the thing the problem was I think
- 1:35:49Speaker 10: it was a bad spot.
- 1:35:50Speaker 6: It's a the whole virtual assisting is that. I don't
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: understand it. It adds nothing.
- 1:35:54Speaker 10: It's useless.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: It's absolutely useless. Like it doesn't spot the ball.
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: It's just measuring what he got the first down, just
- 1:36:01Speaker 6: like the chain gang would if they ran the chains
- 1:36:03Speaker 6: out there like they normally do. So I just maybe
- 1:36:06Speaker 6: it's the first step towards like technology spotting the ball
- 1:36:10Speaker 6: and they just wanted to test this step first before
- 1:36:12Speaker 6: they threw the gamut at it.
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: But like it's to waste the.
- 1:36:16Speaker 10: Time and just to reiterate just real quick if they
- 1:36:19Speaker 10: did reverse it. They originally call on the field was
- 1:36:21Speaker 10: that he was he was stopped short of the line
- 1:36:23Speaker 10: to gain. The call was reversed by replay. The replay
- 1:36:27Speaker 10: official reviewed it and he determined that he had reached
- 1:36:31Speaker 10: the line to gain. So it wasn't like, well, if
- 1:36:33Speaker 10: they brought the sticks out or they did, virtual assistant
- 1:36:36Speaker 10: would have showed that he was short. That's not what
- 1:36:38Speaker 10: the issue was. The issue was where they spotted the ball.
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: Yeah, Mark Poland says, I hate to be that guy.
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: I thought this is interesting, you know, it's a little
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: bit off topic, but I believe this deserves an explanation
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: as it's been the vocal point of the past few shows.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: Didn't want to ruin the fun as I absolutely loved
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: the nickname. But all the Drake Drake may may name
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: origin theories are wrong. The truth is it's, unfortunately just
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: a stolen bit. It originated in twenty nineteen and it
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: was first used for Nas Reed of Minnesota Timberwolves. It
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: started with Wolves fans just randomly typing nas Reed under
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: random posts online, so nas nas red Red became his nickname.
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: Then in the NFL Giants fan.
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: Then used it for Evan Evan Neil Neil, but as
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: he sucks nobody, but the Giants fans remember it, and
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: last year Pages fans, mainly Drake may Lover, just started
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: using it for Drake.
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: That's it.
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: All the Tom Brady theories, et cetera are completely false.
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: The truth is it's just a stolen bit.
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: Uh yes and no, okay, So he's right about naz Reid.
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: I know, you know that's true.
- 1:37:47Speaker 6: This is not so that was seven years ago, but
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: they didn't invent it in that sense. But it is
- 1:37:56Speaker 6: definitely picking up way more steam than the nas Reed
- 1:37:58Speaker 6: thing you ever did.
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: That's beside the point.
- 1:38:00Speaker 6: But no, Reed is a sixth man in the NBA
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: that comes off the te wolves bench like this is
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: this is a much different thing.
- 1:38:07Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: And then the the Tom Brady thing was that some
- 1:38:12Speaker 6: they were calling him Drake Tom Brady May as if
- 1:38:16Speaker 6: to like say, he's the next goat. We know that, right,
- 1:38:18Speaker 6: We've been over that, right, So then that that's this
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: we're we were talking about the origin of it for
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: Drake May.
- 1:38:25Speaker 10: Okay, no one cares about.
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: What happened with NASERI ten years ago.
- 1:38:29Speaker 10: I kind of care if it's a stolen bit, it's not.
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: I don't call it stolen. That's a stretch.
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: Other people have been called the goat before. But Brady,
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: it's more applicable.
- 1:38:40Speaker 8: I mean, on I heard them refer to Josh Josh
- 1:38:43Speaker 8: Allen Allen and that was like, oh, this can't no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:38:46Speaker 8: you can't.
- 1:38:47Speaker 10: Now that's stolen.
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: No that I don't understand what the problem is, whether
- 1:38:51Speaker 6: it was stolen or not.
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: Still like, I don't know, I just get back to.
- 1:38:55Speaker 10: The original premise. Not all that funny.
- 1:38:59Speaker 8: It needs to be funny.
- 1:39:00Speaker 10: I don't know why it needs to be funny. I
- 1:39:02Speaker 10: just don't think it's funny.
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: Nicknames are't supposed to be funny. Names are fun, they're fun,
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: but they don't have to be funny.
- 1:39:08Speaker 10: This one's not.
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: Is it different?
- 1:39:11Speaker 10: Neither? It's not fun nor fun.
- 1:39:13Speaker 8: Nas it's fun or funny.
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Good player is a nice player, but like we're not.
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: He's a stretch five. You wouldn't understand.
- 1:39:22Speaker 8: Here's an email.
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: I just saw the headline and I knew I might
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: like it.
- 1:39:26Speaker 5: Second down sneaks.
- 1:39:29Speaker 10: Oh, Fred is so annoyed all the time.
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: Stan up here in Buffalo Country. I wonder if you
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: ever discussed the second and one quarterbacks? And he's as
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: bothers the heck out of me. Thank you, Josh from Syracuse.
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: Maybe with the short yardist problems, the thought is, let's
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: just get the.
- 1:39:42Speaker 5: First down and move on. It should be a down
- 1:39:45Speaker 5: distance where we take a shot down field. Any thought?
- 1:39:47Speaker 10: I agree?
- 1:39:48Speaker 5: I don't. You don't necessarily have to be a shot.
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: But your whole playbook is open if you don't get it,
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: if it's an incomplete or whatever your book. You know, like,
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: why would you waste it on a quarterback.
- 1:39:59Speaker 6: Sneak because they can't pick up a third and one.
- 1:40:02Speaker 6: They really struggle in short yards. Third you've gained a yard, yeah, exactly,
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: and you don't have to play third down.
- 1:40:08Speaker 10: I don't like it.
- 1:40:09Speaker 8: I hear it.
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: I hear what you're saying in terms of like it in.
- 1:40:14Speaker 10: Even and I think it's something that they done.
- 1:40:17Speaker 5: Even a little swing pass of the back, maybe he
- 1:40:19Speaker 5: breaks it, there's no chance of a bigger play once
- 1:40:22Speaker 5: the quarterback dies forward. That's it.
- 1:40:24Speaker 6: I don't think they want to be in third and short.
- 1:40:26Speaker 6: I don't think they could. I don't think they want
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: to be in there.
- 1:40:28Speaker 10: I agree with you that they've struggled in those situations
- 1:40:30Speaker 10: of the worst. But I think that Josh's offense is
- 1:40:33Speaker 10: not just Josh. It was when Billy Oh was here,
- 1:40:35Speaker 10: and going back to Charlie Weiss, they did that a lot.
- 1:40:39Speaker 10: The second and one sneak just to get the first out. Yeah,
- 1:40:41Speaker 10: and I and Fred is in fairness to Fred, this
- 1:40:44Speaker 10: is something that it has bothered him for a long time.
- 1:40:47Speaker 10: But I kind of agree with Fred on it. I
- 1:40:49Speaker 10: think it's passing up an opportunity to make a play.
- 1:40:52Speaker 10: I agree, if you get the next two, then what
- 1:40:55Speaker 10: are we doing?
- 1:40:56Speaker 6: I agree, if you're on the other side of the fifty. Like,
- 1:40:58Speaker 6: if you're on the opponent's side of the and you're right,
- 1:41:01Speaker 6: you know, let's say you're between you know, the twenty
- 1:41:04Speaker 6: five in the fifty, that's a shot play opportunity to
- 1:41:07Speaker 6: the end zone, right, So it's a little bit different.
- 1:41:10Speaker 6: Whereas if you're on you know, the other side, your
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: side of the fifty yard line, I think you know
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: to stay out a third down there and just yeah.
- 1:41:17Speaker 10: I would say if you're up in your own end,
- 1:41:20Speaker 10: like it may be inside, you're twenty and it's second
- 1:41:22Speaker 10: and one, sure get the first down. There's value in
- 1:41:25Speaker 10: the field position or whatever. Otherwise you should be able
- 1:41:29Speaker 10: to get the first down.
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: With two more plays, you should be able to. But
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: everybody can.
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: Uh Noah thinks from Toronto, Ben Brown needs to start
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: over Jared Wilson. Wilson has not been good all year,
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: and I think Vrabel is only starting him to make
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: his draft look better.
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: I don't know about that.
- 1:41:49Speaker 6: I agree that the Ben Brown conversation should needs to
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: be had. I don't I don't expect it to be
- 1:41:55Speaker 6: had because it seems like they that's the five they
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: started the season with, and that's the five that they
- 1:42:00Speaker 6: kind of want to stick with. But there's no doubt
- 1:42:03Speaker 6: that Ben Brown has been better than what we saw
- 1:42:07Speaker 6: from Jared Wilson on Sunday Night, that's for sure.
- 1:42:10Speaker 7: He wants to justify Ben Brown's extension now, and maybe
- 1:42:12Speaker 7: it's time to switch and say this is why we
- 1:42:14Speaker 7: extended him too.
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: I think there's something to be said for the fact
- 1:42:17Speaker 6: that Ben Brown's a little bit girthier. He's a little
- 1:42:19Speaker 6: bit bigger body type, and especially when you have Campbell
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: at left tackle, who is already a little bit of
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: a narrower build, when you put him and Jared Wilson
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: next to each other on the left side, they're just small.
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: They're just not They're just a small left side of
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: the lot out there.
- 1:42:34Speaker 6: Yeah, So you know when that's what the whole wingspan
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: thing is. It's an amount of space that you literally
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: take up your your square footage on the field. And
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: I think Ben Brown's, you know, got a little bit
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: more size to him and a little bit more with
- 1:42:49Speaker 6: to him that allows him to take up a little
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: bit more space.
- 1:42:52Speaker 5: Working out some kinks. Oh, Patty's an agamon? What's up?
- 1:42:56Speaker 8: Patty?
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: It was like.
- 1:43:01Speaker 9: Hello, so hello, can you hear me?
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: Hello?
- 1:43:06Speaker 17: Okay, sorry, So just talking about the officiating, Paul, I'm
- 1:43:10Speaker 17: with you. I don't want to see any more flags
- 1:43:11Speaker 17: than we necessarily need to see. In fact, one of
- 1:43:15Speaker 17: you guys had the idea of like the illegal man downfield.
- 1:43:18Speaker 17: I think that needs to go or at least like
- 1:43:20Speaker 17: make it within five yards. Nothing crazy, but like there's
- 1:43:23Speaker 17: just there's way too many of those calls that are
- 1:43:25Speaker 17: being thrown out there.
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: It would be impossible to play defense if you take
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: out illegal man downfield.
- 1:43:30Speaker 10: Yeah, I don't think you could just let the guys
- 1:43:32Speaker 10: go downfield and get out and block and whatnot. But
- 1:43:35Speaker 10: I do think that that there's a happy medium to
- 1:43:37Speaker 10: what Patty's talking about. Maybe give him a little more
- 1:43:39Speaker 10: leeway if it's clear that the guy is not he's
- 1:43:42Speaker 10: pass blocking, not running down to get in front of
- 1:43:44Speaker 10: a screen.
- 1:43:44Speaker 6: The issues with the RPOs and like in college, absolutely
- 1:43:48Speaker 6: it's crazy, Like they let the linemen get like six
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: eight yards down the field and they're the quarterbacks.
- 1:43:53Speaker 8: Holding the mesh, holding the mesh.
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: I can't do that, Yeah, he can't stop.
- 1:43:56Speaker 10: It's more about the formations, the illegal shifts, those kinds
- 1:43:59Speaker 10: of penalties I think they could probably yeah, shortened you know,
- 1:44:04Speaker 10: shrink the rule book down a little bit.
- 1:44:06Speaker 8: Pretty good job by round Torbert on Sunday night.
- 1:44:09Speaker 10: For the most part, I thought that the officials weren't
- 1:44:12Speaker 10: really a big part of these games. I thought there
- 1:44:15Speaker 10: were some calls that were missed in the game, but
- 1:44:17Speaker 10: I would rather have it that way and not look
- 1:44:21Speaker 10: at it and say, jeez, we've got another ref show
- 1:44:23Speaker 10: on our hands. I thought that was the Rams game,
- 1:44:25Speaker 10: the first playoff game. I was like, here we go.
- 1:44:27Speaker 10: It's going to be the same thing that we've gotten
- 1:44:28Speaker 10: all year. The refs are going to inject themselves. And
- 1:44:31Speaker 10: then I was pleasantly surprised that the remaining games, the
- 1:44:34Speaker 10: teams generally decided it.
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: Craig and Charlotte can't believe we're here talking about the
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: Division round playoffs and how to advance to the AFC Championship.
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: Admittedly I liked our matchup against the Steelers better, but
- 1:44:47Speaker 3: after watching last night's game, I see a path past
- 1:44:50Speaker 3: the Texans too, if we can neutralize some of their
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: pass rush. On that note, one thing we haven't really
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: seen this team do much this year, aside from maybe
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: the two minute drill, is you is up tempo to
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: keep the defense on the field and wear them down.
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: Do you think Josh is saving a tactic like this
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: for time like this or do you think it's too
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: risky for a young team to execute.
- 1:45:12Speaker 8: I wouldn't.
- 1:45:13Speaker 7: I mean, I just as Evan laid out, they don't
- 1:45:14Speaker 7: really change personnel much. They kind of do what they do.
- 1:45:17Speaker 7: So sometimes I think that's an advantage for the offense
- 1:45:20Speaker 7: when they do a lot of switching.
- 1:45:21Speaker 8: They want to have it.
- 1:45:23Speaker 10: But last night those guys were in and out, but not.
- 1:45:26Speaker 8: Like to the point where, all right, this is the situation.
- 1:45:28Speaker 7: We need a whole new group of guys, Like I mean,
- 1:45:30Speaker 7: there'll be a little bit of mixing matching with the front,
- 1:45:31Speaker 7: but I think they.
- 1:45:32Speaker 10: Look like seventeen guys play more than twenty percent of
- 1:45:34Speaker 10: their snaps on.
- 1:45:35Speaker 8: Defense, like four tackles maybe you know.
- 1:45:38Speaker 10: And then what I'm saying is they had autry Rankins,
- 1:45:42Speaker 10: Derek Barnett, there was a guy Jones. I can't not
- 1:45:46Speaker 10: ninety eight, I want to say. But it's just.
- 1:45:48Speaker 7: Rotation, right, Like it's not like they rotate. Oh no,
- 1:45:51Speaker 7: we can't rotate this time. We're screwed.
- 1:45:52Speaker 8: Like they're fine to like stay with our package out
- 1:45:55Speaker 8: there and you.
- 1:45:55Speaker 10: Want to hurry. I wonder if I thought that was
- 1:45:57Speaker 10: my best way to move the ball, not because I
- 1:45:59Speaker 10: want to dig to with the deef, because you guys,
- 1:46:01Speaker 10: both of you guys talked about how the Texans are
- 1:46:04Speaker 10: one of those we do what we do kind of
- 1:46:05Speaker 10: the defenses. So it's not like you're trying to get
- 1:46:08Speaker 10: them in a package that you you don't want them
- 1:46:12Speaker 10: to sup. They're going to do it anyway. Whether you
- 1:46:14Speaker 10: can get them out of nickel, like Evan said, with
- 1:46:16Speaker 10: Petrie and sort of affect where he's lining up, you
- 1:46:19Speaker 10: might be able to do that. But they're going to
- 1:46:21Speaker 10: play their style, I would think, but they I think
- 1:46:26Speaker 10: you're gonna have to have Drake may play really well.
- 1:46:28Speaker 10: You want to move the ball. But like I looked
- 1:46:30Speaker 10: at it last night, as I thought the Steelers had
- 1:46:31Speaker 10: some opportunities and Rogers isn't in a spot anymore to
- 1:46:35Speaker 10: physically do it, I think Drake may will be able
- 1:46:38Speaker 10: to make some of those plays that Rogers couldn't.
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: Last I think maybe you know, certainly, you know, if
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: you get them into base defense and you want to
- 1:46:46Speaker 6: go tempo so that they can't take the base defense
- 1:46:48Speaker 6: off the field, then maybe you can catch them in
- 1:46:50Speaker 6: the matchup like that. I'm not a big fan of
- 1:46:53Speaker 6: tempo in general.
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: It's just no huddle, right, just go no huddle. They
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: don't necessarily have to up the tempo.
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: You can't huddle.
- 1:47:01Speaker 6: But yeah, I mean, I'm not a huge fan of
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: of doing of that in general. I think it's it's
- 1:47:08Speaker 6: kind of like smoking mirrorsy, like you know, you can
- 1:47:12Speaker 6: it can work situationally, it can work in certain spots,
- 1:47:15Speaker 6: but I think Chip Kelly taught us that that's not
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: going to work like as like a way of offense
- 1:47:20Speaker 6: in the league.
- 1:47:20Speaker 7: I think they used it against Rex Ryan a lot
- 1:47:22Speaker 7: who wants to do a lot of walking around and
- 1:47:24Speaker 7: who's going to be where, And at a certain point
- 1:47:27Speaker 7: they're like, we're just going to run the play right again,
- 1:47:29Speaker 7: you do what you want to do, you know.
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: So yep, good good dudes.
- 1:47:34Speaker 3: Uh Daniels in Chicago, what's up to work against Rex Ryan?
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: What's up, Daniel?
- 1:47:39Speaker 9: Guys for some caller?
- 1:47:40Speaker 20: Hear me?
- 1:47:41Speaker 5: Yeah, get some work going on in the background, Daniel, I.
- 1:47:48Speaker 15: Got off speaker. Can you hear me better?
- 1:47:50Speaker 10: Yeah, we can hear you.
- 1:47:51Speaker 15: Yeah, Okay, sorry, this is a question I guess for Evan,
- 1:47:57Speaker 15: just like looking back up the game and seeing maybe
- 1:48:00Speaker 15: Herbert had a couple opportunities to hit Lad McConkie down
- 1:48:04Speaker 15: the field. I know he was open on the right
- 1:48:06Speaker 15: side one time and there was just all the space,
- 1:48:09Speaker 15: and then when he was running down the scheme, maybe
- 1:48:12Speaker 15: he could have thrown a ball over the top. I
- 1:48:15Speaker 15: was wondering if you guys are worried that Stroud next
- 1:48:18Speaker 15: Sunday is going to be able to hit anything vertical
- 1:48:21Speaker 15: on our defund I know our defunds played really well,
- 1:48:24Speaker 15: but yeah, that's my question.
- 1:48:27Speaker 9: I shall hang up.
- 1:48:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I would say, like, you know, I I think
- 1:48:31Speaker 6: I mentioned this during the break, but you know the
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: all twenty two dogs are out for justin Herbert right
- 1:48:37Speaker 6: now and rightfully so he did not play well. But
- 1:48:42Speaker 6: when you start to you know, we're all guilty of
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: this at times. When you start to sit there and
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: watch the film back on your computer screen, it's really
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: easy for you to say it. Sit there and say, well,
- 1:48:54Speaker 6: this guy's open, right, that guy's open. Yeah, this guy's open. Uh,
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: you're not the one like sitting in the pot with
- 1:49:01Speaker 6: Christian Barmore and Milton Williams coming after you. So I
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: think that there's some element to it both ways. You know,
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: I think he missed probably the four or five opportunities
- 1:49:12Speaker 6: that the Patriots gave him to push the ball down
- 1:49:14Speaker 6: the field. And you know, I think he said this earlier, Paul,
- 1:49:17Speaker 6: he missed all five like it wasn't like he hit
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: three in the five.
- 1:49:21Speaker 7: I think mostly like fourteen yards, just like the longest play,
- 1:49:24Speaker 7: yeah he hit.
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: He was zero for five, whether that was missing open
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: guys or the ones he tried to attempt, and.
- 1:49:30Speaker 10: Stroud did hit some of those. Last night. I took
- 1:49:32Speaker 10: Stroud played a terrible game overall, but he hit Kirk
- 1:49:37Speaker 10: I think twice on downfield throws. He had another long
- 1:49:41Speaker 10: catching run that was a shorter throw. He also put
- 1:49:43Speaker 10: one right in nole is not Noel, no no, put
- 1:49:48Speaker 10: it right in his hands and the rookie let it
- 1:49:50Speaker 10: get threw his hands into his body. And then when
- 1:49:52Speaker 10: the hit came and knocked the ball loose. That was
- 1:49:54Speaker 10: a good throw too deep down the field. So there
- 1:49:57Speaker 10: were opportunities that Stroud took it advantage of. I thought
- 1:50:01Speaker 10: Rogers had the same opportunities and either didn't get the
- 1:50:03Speaker 10: proper time or didn't connect on them. So you will
- 1:50:06Speaker 10: get chances to make plays down the field. Again, if
- 1:50:10Speaker 10: Stroud plays like he did Monday night, they're going to lose.
- 1:50:14Speaker 10: He's not going to get away with that against the Patriots.
- 1:50:16Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: The one thing with Stroud is uh he wants to
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: throw in breaking routes to the intermediate part of the field, Like.
- 1:50:23Speaker 10: That's where Nico Collins missing is huge.
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: That's his game.
- 1:50:27Speaker 6: That's his game he wants to you know, if you
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: look at all the splits, you know his efficiency throwing
- 1:50:32Speaker 6: the intermediate middle is.
- 1:50:35Speaker 10: He's see some of those trolls last night, one to
- 1:50:38Speaker 10: Higgins on an incut one to he wants to Throwson
- 1:50:41Speaker 10: early in the game and.
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: Loss Gonzo for the Patriots or Collins for the Texans.
- 1:50:46Speaker 10: I'd say it's a wash. I think those two really
- 1:50:48Speaker 10: important guys for their teams.
- 1:50:50Speaker 4: I think that Gonzo has a better chance to play.
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: No, but that's not the question.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: I think it's a wash too, But I think Gonzo
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: has his best chance to play.
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: I need the looks of it. I agree.
- 1:50:59Speaker 6: But you know, like Paul said, he was on universe
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: like Saturn or something.
- 1:51:05Speaker 10: I thought. But if you had told me after the
- 1:51:09Speaker 10: game that Christian Gonzalez was going to see some of
- 1:51:12Speaker 10: you guys and say I'm fine. I would have said
- 1:51:14Speaker 10: no way, not based on the way you walk down
- 1:51:16Speaker 10: the tunnel, but he was. So you know, if you're Houston,
- 1:51:21Speaker 10: maybe you flew home and he's feeling a lot better today,
- 1:51:24Speaker 10: but a lot I.
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: Would stay, they're fine, And you know, Millon Williams gets
- 1:51:28Speaker 6: put on IR a day later, so you know, I'm
- 1:51:30Speaker 6: not saying that's going to happen with Gonzo.
- 1:51:31Speaker 10: Yeah, I hope it doesn't, and you're right about that.
- 1:51:34Speaker 10: You know, maybe Houston gets home and you know he
- 1:51:38Speaker 10: feels a lot better. I agree with you guys that
- 1:51:40Speaker 10: the visual with the tonnel on the head and getting
- 1:51:43Speaker 10: carted off didn't look like he's going to play this week.
- 1:51:45Speaker 5: Usually with a head, the guy walks to the locker room.
- 1:51:48Speaker 8: Usually.
- 1:51:48Speaker 7: Yeah, it was interesting on Friday listening to Jerry Wilson
- 1:51:51Speaker 7: just talk about his experience.
- 1:51:52Speaker 8: You don't really hear about players talk about it a lot.
- 1:51:54Speaker 8: And he was saying, you know, you feel.
- 1:51:56Speaker 7: Okay, and then you wake up and you have a headache,
- 1:51:58Speaker 7: and you know you just have to roll with the
- 1:52:00Speaker 7: punches a little bit, and then finally, you know, he
- 1:52:02Speaker 7: woke up, he didn't have a headache, and it's like,
- 1:52:04Speaker 7: all right, now I'm getting better.
- 1:52:05Speaker 10: But it's it's.
- 1:52:06Speaker 7: One of those things you just don't know. I don't
- 1:52:07Speaker 7: think we have any idea on either of those guys.
- 1:52:08Speaker 6: Yeah, it's weird because that game, Jared Wilson didn't leave
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: the game but had a worse concussion than Trevon Henderson,
- 1:52:18Speaker 6: who came back the very next week and was being
- 1:52:20Speaker 6: played the very next week.
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: And Jared Wilson missed two full games.
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: What they consion should have taken him out.
- 1:52:25Speaker 8: I think he said it was like the last player
- 1:52:26Speaker 8: of the second Yeah, it was like the last.
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: Player of the game. So that's why I didn't get
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: taken out.
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: Eldred, North Carolina, what's up Belt? Oh that's a rare
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: hang up by Eldred. Yeah, Nathan writes in I wanted
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: to share a brief point about how this season has
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: been framed at times, along with a question ahead of
- 1:52:44Speaker 3: the Patriots Texans matchup. While I do not think analysts
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: leaned too heavily on history, media narratives often framed games
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: around past streaks and long standing trends as if they
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: meaningfully predict outcomes. In a league built on parody, that
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: approach can miss what actually decides a game. A good
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: example was Texans Steelers. By historical standards, Pittsburgh had him
- 1:53:07Speaker 3: every reason to win. They had not lost a Monday
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: night football game since ninety one, while Houston had never
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: won a road playoff game. If history were truly predicted,
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: that result should have felt inevitable. Instead, it had no
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: bearing once the game began execution blah blah blah.
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: That is why niche.
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: Historical arguments about why a team cannot win often fall apart.
- 1:53:29Speaker 3: History is relevant only until it is broken, and in
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: the NFL, it has broken constantly. From that perspective, there
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: is no inherent reason the Patriots cannot become the first
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: team to win a Super Bowl after a four win season.
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: The year before.
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: That was a very long way to get together.
- 1:53:45Speaker 10: Yeah, point, because I would just say, you picked and
- 1:53:49Speaker 10: choosed what you wanted to use for your historical comparisons.
- 1:53:52Speaker 10: Because what I've been seeing all day on ESPN as
- 1:53:55Speaker 10: we're doing our show is the Steelers' recent playoff hishty
- 1:54:01Speaker 10: and loss. They have been down by twenty one or
- 1:54:04Speaker 10: more points now seven consecutive playoff losses. So did you
- 1:54:10Speaker 10: use that as your history, because that's what I was
- 1:54:12Speaker 10: using as my history. This team has no chance, right,
- 1:54:14Speaker 10: They're not as good as the playoff teams because they're
- 1:54:16Speaker 10: not really a playoff team.
- 1:54:17Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:54:17Speaker 6: The one I was thinking of was West Coast coming
- 1:54:21Speaker 6: east in cold weather. Just what the Chargers just did
- 1:54:24Speaker 6: and then put up three points. And I don't think
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: that's why they put up three points, but that will
- 1:54:29Speaker 6: go as another you know stat in the West Coast
- 1:54:33Speaker 6: out indoor team, outdoor team.
- 1:54:35Speaker 5: You know tench that Sofi Stadium is an outdoor stadium.
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: Yes, outdoors an eighty degree weather.
- 1:54:40Speaker 7: Yeah, And the same thing that was going around last
- 1:54:42Speaker 7: week with like the circadian rhythms of West Coast teams,
- 1:54:44Speaker 7: like they're going to be ready to play.
- 1:54:47Speaker 10: Come up with all these things.
- 1:54:49Speaker 5: One other question from Nate.
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: He says, if something goes wrong early in the game Sunday,
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: which team do you trust more to settle in and
- 1:54:56Speaker 3: respond within the game rather than letting it spiral?
- 1:54:58Speaker 10: Patriots.
- 1:54:59Speaker 8: Yes, they've shown it already.
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: That's how you want this game to go. You want
- 1:55:03Speaker 6: the Patriots to get a lead and make that Texans
- 1:55:05Speaker 6: offense have to score.
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:55:06Speaker 10: I just watched C. J. Stroud the other last night,
- 1:55:10Speaker 10: and I didn't think he responded well to some of
- 1:55:15Speaker 10: the early adversity and it seemed like it rattled him,
- 1:55:17Speaker 10: whereas I've seen Drake may have some struggles early in
- 1:55:20Speaker 10: games and he just commediately responds to it.
- 1:55:22Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:55:23Speaker 7: Man, it's still a new development though. That's like I
- 1:55:24Speaker 7: still am, like, I think I feel good about it,
- 1:55:26Speaker 7: but I'm also you know, it's it's also new.
- 1:55:28Speaker 10: Plus their home, you know, I would give the home
- 1:55:30Speaker 10: team more of an opportunity to overcome you know, early stumbles.
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: Mary, No, this is yeah, Mary right. Sin Official colon
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: Sean Smith will be the referee for the next game
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: of the Patriots unfavorable trend for the home team.
- 1:55:46Speaker 5: While other referees see the.
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: Home team win fifty five point nine percent of the time,
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: with Smith, it drops to forty point eight averages eleven
- 1:55:54Speaker 3: flags per game in his last four playoff games.
- 1:55:57Speaker 10: Wow, but that's a that's a daggering numbers.
- 1:56:01Speaker 7: Home teams only win forty percent of the time when
- 1:56:03Speaker 7: this guy refs yep.
- 1:56:04Speaker 3: Was the referee for the Patriots Giants of this season
- 1:56:07Speaker 3: thirty three to fifteen in favor of new England, so.
- 1:56:10Speaker 10: That was one of the forty.
- 1:56:11Speaker 5: The Patriots record with him as referee is two and one. Okay,
- 1:56:17Speaker 5: some good insight from Mary, Thank you.
- 1:56:18Speaker 8: I try to ignore those things. I don't even want to.
- 1:56:20Speaker 8: I don't even know who the ref is. I don't
- 1:56:22Speaker 8: want I think. Last week I heard I know tour Bird,
- 1:56:23Speaker 8: so I was a little bit into it.
- 1:56:24Speaker 6: But the best is when like the you know, somebody
- 1:56:27Speaker 6: like Mike Grease who I love, will tweet like the
- 1:56:29Speaker 6: ref the ref's number, like you know numbers, just judge
- 1:56:33Speaker 6: no number sixty two in your program.
- 1:56:35Speaker 7: I love me some Mike Grease, but man, he'll tweet
- 1:56:37Speaker 7: some minutia.
- 1:56:37Speaker 10: Yes, not really of any value.
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: Parker says, part of why Paul is struggling with the
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: nickname of Drake May is because this.
- 1:56:47Speaker 3: Is Internet culture twenty twenty six. Things don't always make sense.
- 1:56:51Speaker 10: But that I just want to Spider Man meme.
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: That is the point six seven literally means nothing when
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: it comes to deep Internet culture. Drake's nickname not making
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: complete sense is part of what is fueling it. It
- 1:57:02Speaker 3: becomes a if you know, you know thing, even though
- 1:57:04Speaker 3: there's not much to know.
- 1:57:06Speaker 10: All right, all right, well, listen I think that's largely accurate. Yeah,
- 1:57:10Speaker 10: you don't want to get to the last couple of calls.
- 1:57:12Speaker 3: Listen now that's oh, we got a couple of callers.
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: Oh okay. Sometimes when I look at my computer screen
- 1:57:19Speaker 3: and then I look up at the board, I can't
- 1:57:20Speaker 3: read it. Sean Sean is Sean Sean, otherwise known as
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: Sean from Boston.
- 1:57:25Speaker 5: What's up?
- 1:57:27Speaker 15: Hey, guys?
- 1:57:28Speaker 5: Have it going okay?
- 1:57:30Speaker 9: Awesome?
- 1:57:31Speaker 26: So I just had a couple of things that I
- 1:57:32Speaker 26: wanted to say. The first thing was that I was
- 1:57:34Speaker 26: at the game this past weekend and it was my
- 1:57:36Speaker 26: first game ever, and it was just a great experience
- 1:57:39Speaker 26: because I remember in the twenty fourteen Divisional round against
- 1:57:41Speaker 26: the Ravens, there was a moment where the crowd was
- 1:57:43Speaker 26: singing your Love by the outfield and it sounded like
- 1:57:46Speaker 26: such a cool experience to be there, and I was
- 1:57:48Speaker 26: able to experience that feeling again when it happened this
- 1:57:50Speaker 26: past weekend in my first game ever. So I just
- 1:57:52Speaker 26: wanted to like shout out the fan base because it's
- 1:57:55Speaker 26: just like such an awesome community and such an awesome feeling.
- 1:57:57Speaker 10: There's a good crowd Sunday night. Yeah, that's a good crowd.
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: Good shot out Sean, that's actually my thing for the
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: PU TV show talk about the crowd, and Vrabel even
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: mentioned it.
- 1:58:07Speaker 10: Yeah, that was pretty good. Digs evidently didn't, but everybody
- 1:58:09Speaker 10: else thought it was good.
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: And I thought, and I thought maybe, I don't know,
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: maybe the sound was better. But it was one of
- 1:58:14Speaker 3: the few games I can remember here at Gillette where
- 1:58:16Speaker 3: the fans sang along for the national anthem, which doesn't
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: happen a lot here.
- 1:58:20Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:58:21Speaker 6: Yeah, there was two times Hunter Henry's touchdown and Elis
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: his fumble recovery where the press box was shaping.
- 1:58:27Speaker 10: Hunter henry touchdown. I definitely felt it, and.
- 1:58:29Speaker 4: That's not that doesn't happen very often year.
- 1:58:31Speaker 10: So I don't remember it since that game that he's
- 1:58:33Speaker 10: talking about, Baltimore game be four teams the last time
- 1:58:36Speaker 10: I remember the stadium showing.
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: It's a new vibe here with the team. Maybe it's
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: a new vibe with the fans too.
- 1:58:42Speaker 6: It's hard to like get really jazz up first sixteen
- 1:58:46Speaker 6: to three game.
- 1:58:48Speaker 5: Wait a minute, I disagree. Those defensive stops get you going,
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: come on, waiting.
- 1:58:54Speaker 10: For that big thing. I'm pretty ventful.
- 1:58:58Speaker 6: Like well, I think Diggs was talking about some of
- 1:59:00Speaker 6: the lulls, and I think some of the lows were
- 1:59:02Speaker 6: because it was a pun festival like two quarters.
- 1:59:04Speaker 5: But when when you.
- 1:59:05Speaker 3: Make them go three and out or you force them
- 1:59:06Speaker 3: to punt on a third down, stop, crowd should get
- 1:59:09Speaker 3: up for that.
- 1:59:10Speaker 6: I don't disagree, but it's not gonna happen like it
- 1:59:12Speaker 6: would for a touchdown or.
- 1:59:14Speaker 7: Player introductions growing on you at all. I know you
- 1:59:16Speaker 7: weren't a fan of that early. You still don't like it.
- 1:59:18Speaker 7: You like introduce as a team.
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: The thing about player introductions is they introduce it, then
- 1:59:22Speaker 3: they stand there for the anthem and everything goes down,
- 1:59:25Speaker 3: you know, so like there's a there's no way to
- 1:59:28Speaker 3: keep that going.
- 1:59:29Speaker 4: We're just not gonna We're not gonna win them over
- 1:59:32Speaker 4: on that, I don't think.
- 1:59:33Speaker 10: So I'm introducing Friend's got a little potential m.
- 1:59:37Speaker 4: VP that you don't care on Sunday Night football in
- 1:59:39Speaker 4: the playoff.
- 1:59:39Speaker 10: I don't like fun in general.
- 1:59:41Speaker 8: I like funny.
- 1:59:42Speaker 10: You just don't like fun.
- 1:59:44Speaker 5: Marty's in Tacoma, Washington. What's up, Marty, Mighty Marty?
- 1:59:51Speaker 9: How's it going?
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: Hey?
- 1:59:54Speaker 11: So, one thing I wanted to say about the Patriots.
- 1:59:58Speaker 11: They're saying that like we're we haven't our schedule isn't
- 2:00:01Speaker 11: good enough.
- 2:00:02Speaker 5: You know, we're not saying that.
- 2:00:04Speaker 11: No, No, the media is saying that we haven't played
- 2:00:07Speaker 11: enough people, so therefore our run isn't is good?
- 2:00:11Speaker 10: Right, right?
- 2:00:11Speaker 11: Right? Look back in history and the two other instances
- 2:00:15Speaker 11: where a team won the Super Bowl that had a
- 2:00:18Speaker 11: week schedule, in fact, just about as week as ours is.
- 2:00:21Speaker 11: This year was the greatest show on turf. And when
- 2:00:25Speaker 11: the Tampa Bay Bucks won the Super Bowl, Now nobody's
- 2:00:29Speaker 11: going back and saying, oh, the greatest show on turf
- 2:00:31Speaker 11: wasn't really the greatest show on turf, right, I Mean,
- 2:00:33Speaker 11: nobody says anything bad about them, but they have to
- 2:00:36Speaker 11: have a covey on. It's why we're winning.
- 2:00:38Speaker 24: Right.
- 2:00:39Speaker 11: That's one. There's one. The second thing I wanted to
- 2:00:42Speaker 11: say was that it's just a quick story about being
- 2:00:46Speaker 11: a Pats fan. I live in Washington State now, grew
- 2:00:51Speaker 11: up in Massachusetts, and in nineteen seventy eight, I was
- 2:00:55Speaker 11: at a church function was like a Protestant church. I'm
- 2:00:59Speaker 11: a Catholic, but went to a prostant church because they
- 2:01:01Speaker 11: had a raffle and Steve and I won the raffle
- 2:01:04Speaker 11: and I was given an NFL football by Steve Grogan
- 2:01:08Speaker 11: in nineteen seventy eight. I've been a Pats fan for
- 2:01:11Speaker 11: life since then. Okay, I got, I got, I'm serious.
- 2:01:18Speaker 11: I look forward to this.
- 2:01:19Speaker 10: Uh.
- 2:01:20Speaker 11: I think they're going to make a good run. I
- 2:01:21Speaker 11: think if if they can shure up the line, like
- 2:01:25Speaker 11: maybe throw an extra tight end on the left left
- 2:01:28Speaker 11: side to help Will and Wilson out or Campbell and Wilson.
- 2:01:33Speaker 11: I think that, you know, may should have time to
- 2:01:37Speaker 11: throw the ball downfield.
- 2:01:38Speaker 10: All right, thanks, I don't.
- 2:01:43Speaker 4: I know we have to go, but good for that.
- 2:01:46Speaker 6: After being the Chargers, I haven't heard a single person
- 2:01:49Speaker 6: bring up the schedule now. And I'm not saying like
- 2:01:53Speaker 6: but that's I'm not saying as in like, yeah, we
- 2:01:56Speaker 6: shut them up.
- 2:01:56Speaker 4: I'm just saying like.
- 2:01:57Speaker 6: Yeah, you are no like if you beat the Chargers
- 2:01:59Speaker 6: in the and like you make.
- 2:02:01Speaker 4: It at the championship game, I don't think to make.
- 2:02:04Speaker 5: It all the way if you would have had to
- 2:02:05Speaker 5: have beaten good team.
- 2:02:06Speaker 4: Yeah, so you know that's like that's my point.
- 2:02:09Speaker 5: Yeah, just beat the teams and shut them up. That's it. Sure,
- 2:02:12Speaker 5: all right, we'll be back.
- 2:02:14Speaker 3: Tomorrow catch twenty two Tomorrow ten am ten am okay,
- 2:02:18Speaker 3: still going love it all right?
- 2:02:20Speaker 5: See you then, Hey, this is Alex.
- 2:02:24Speaker 4: Thanks for tuning into the show.
- 2:02:25Speaker 21: If you really want to help us, make sure you
- 2:02:27Speaker 21: like us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get
- 2:02:30Speaker 21: your podcasts.
- 2:02:31Speaker 4: Also, make sure you follow us.
- 2:02:33Speaker 5: On the New England Patriots YouTube channel to see this
- 2:02:35Speaker 5: show and everything.

- 2:02:38Speaker 10: Thanks a lot,
