- 1:40Speaker 2: to Nashville joint practice against the Titans tomorrow. Trevon Diggs
- 1:45Speaker 2: expected to be on the plane today and land with
- 1:47Speaker 2: the team tonight. Here today Here, twenty twenty one all
- 1:51Speaker 2: Pro quarterback for the Cowboys signed a one year deal
- 1:53Speaker 2: with Seattle one day after his Seahawks tryout. He said,
- 1:56Speaker 2: there's a lot to prove that he's still the best
- 1:59Speaker 2: in the games. Some people in Dallas aren't sure he
- 2:01Speaker 2: was ever the best. Hadn't played a full season since
- 2:03Speaker 2: twenty twenty two. That was his second and last Pro
- 2:06Speaker 2: Bowl year. More on this more on Diggs's fit when
- 2:09Speaker 2: he might play, how it affects a Terrriot Arnold situation
- 2:12Speaker 2: during the show. Sounders last night loss yet again at
- 2:15Speaker 2: the stadium, falling behind two nail to Austin in the
- 2:18Speaker 2: second half ninetieth minute goal not enough, two to one loss.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Franchise record eight straight losses in MLS play. Fans are
- 2:24Speaker 2: putting bags on their head inside loom and Field. Coach
- 2:27Speaker 2: Brian Smetzer again pleaded publicly for upper management GM Craig
- 2:32Speaker 2: Wibel owner Adrian Hanauer to get him some more veteran
- 2:35Speaker 2: players and make amid eight injuries to the veterans, Brian
- 2:39Speaker 2: Smitz is just coming out to say it, I need
- 2:41Speaker 2: more guys.
- 2:42Speaker 5: I mean, he is a pretty candid dude.
- 2:45Speaker 2: He's twice now after matches. He said that Pro Bowl
- 2:48Speaker 2: nose tackle vidavea former Washington Husky star, ended his hold
- 2:52Speaker 2: in with the Buccaneers, signed a one year extension gives
- 2:54Speaker 2: him an additional six million this year twenty four million
- 2:57Speaker 2: for twenty twenty seven. Houston Texas and wide receiver Jayden
- 3:01Speaker 2: Higgins out for the season. Torn acl I got in
- 3:03Speaker 2: the joint practice with the Raiders. A lot of joint
- 3:05Speaker 2: practice around the league this week Patriots and Eagles. AJ
- 3:09Speaker 2: Brown lighting up the Eagles yesterday. Hey, remember the Soundview
- 3:13Speaker 2: Little League team the coach Kyle Yarborough we interviewed the
- 3:16Speaker 2: other day from William Springs, Frankie McCabe, and Winston Weaver
- 3:20Speaker 2: combined to throw seven shutout innings for Soundview with Tacoma
- 3:24Speaker 2: team at the Little League World Series beat Phoenix City,
- 3:27Speaker 2: Alabama to nothing in the first game. Phoenix City, Alabama.
- 3:31Speaker 2: By the way, Jessman, I don't know if you noticed,
- 3:33Speaker 2: had a girl pitching seven shutout innings, six shutout innings
- 3:37Speaker 2: with eight strikeouts yesterday.
- 3:38Speaker 5: Of Davis Man, I remember get that mentioned Davis.
- 3:42Speaker 2: That's right. Yeah, they had a ninth girl to ever
- 3:45Speaker 2: pitch in the College World Series. You might say, well,
- 3:47Speaker 2: the nine, what's the big deal? There have been thirty
- 3:49Speaker 2: three hundred kids in the Little League World Series.
- 3:53Speaker 5: It is a big deal.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It's a huge deal. And she threw six shutout innings
- 3:56Speaker 2: with eight strikeouts against the sound View Tacoma team before
- 4:00Speaker 2: Soundview want it in the extra inning seven to nothing.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Great job for Kyle Yarbow and the boys down at
- 4:06Speaker 2: Tacoma and Williamsport. Now it's a Thursday show, Greg Belle,
- 4:10Speaker 2: News Tribune.
- 4:12Speaker 6: The least it is.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Man, You get off the plane and the humidity just
- 4:17Speaker 2: strikes you. I mean it's bam.
- 4:18Speaker 5: We are a little blessed out here with the lack
- 4:20Speaker 5: of that.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah, when you complained about eighty five, get ninety with
- 4:25Speaker 2: about ninety percent humidity. It's a different deal here. That's
- 4:27Speaker 2: what the Seahawks will be practicing in tomorrow. I'm here
- 4:30Speaker 2: in advance of the team landing just when McIntyre's back
- 4:32Speaker 2: at the Elliott Base Studios in downtown Seattle. Good morning, ma'am,
- 4:35Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 4:36Speaker 7: I'm not jealous of that humidity. So sometimes i'm jealous
- 4:40Speaker 7: of where you are when I can't be there.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Today is not one of those days.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you've done your sideline duty at Auburn and you
- 4:48Speaker 2: know exactly what this is. Seahawks will be here tomorrow. Today.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Tomorrow they have a joint practice and then what guys
- 4:55Speaker 2: are looking to forward to. Almost as much as the
- 4:58Speaker 2: joint practice is the rookie talent show that's going to
- 5:01Speaker 2: happen Friday night.
- 5:02Speaker 7: I forget that they do these fun things.
- 5:05Speaker 2: They will tell you that last year the bonding they
- 5:08Speaker 2: had in the Rookie Talent Show and the outing in
- 5:10Speaker 2: Green Bay propelled them to the super Bowl. It further
- 5:15Speaker 2: bonded their togetherness. And they think that togetherness is the
- 5:17Speaker 2: unique special sauce that Mike McDonald's created in Seattle to
- 5:21Speaker 2: get into be Super Bowl champs. Well, because they had
- 5:24Speaker 2: such a great time last year and because it's such
- 5:26Speaker 2: a great time here in that outing two years ago
- 5:29Speaker 2: when they had the Titans and joint practice in a
- 5:31Speaker 2: preseason game, they are looking forward to Friday night. They're
- 5:34Speaker 2: going to a barbecue place. It's got a stage. Oh,
- 5:37Speaker 2: they played music.
- 5:38Speaker 7: Oh so there was some planning that went into this.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Oh absolutely. And they got a hotel that's right near
- 5:44Speaker 2: the barbecue plays and it's a giant barbecue plays with
- 5:47Speaker 2: a bunch of tables, picnic tables, open seating, and there's
- 5:51Speaker 2: a stage in the back. And that's where they had
- 5:54Speaker 2: the talent show. And two years ago.
- 5:57Speaker 8: We were here.
- 5:57Speaker 2: It was apparently off the hook some guys. So you'll
- 6:01Speaker 2: see Friday night Saturday morning Seahawks posting on their social
- 6:05Speaker 2: media accounts clips of the Rookie Talent Show.
- 6:10Speaker 7: They probably have to have a review process.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Assuming well, but they should they do?
- 6:16Speaker 7: Absolutely should I never, you know, with the joint practices
- 6:21Speaker 7: and stuff.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Was p Carroll not the biggest fan of that.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I think he absolutely abhorted. Yeah, he said that he
- 6:27Speaker 2: would never do that because he didn't want the other
- 6:30Speaker 2: team or the league to figure out what the Seahawks
- 6:32Speaker 2: are doing, even if it was just how they run practice.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's opposite. He wants his Ones to go against
- 6:38Speaker 2: the Ones in a controlled environment, and he uses the
- 6:41Speaker 2: joint practice as their preseason game. Tomorrow will be the
- 6:45Speaker 2: only time the Ones play the Ones, and the only
- 6:48Speaker 2: time we're going to see Sam Darnold and Jackson Smith
- 6:50Speaker 2: and Jigba. That's why I'm here because that is their
- 6:54Speaker 2: most important preseason event, this joint practice, and the coaches
- 6:58Speaker 2: get to blow the whistle if guys get too close
- 7:00Speaker 2: the quarterback. Yeah, there'll be fights. Yeah, Devin Witherspoon's gonna
- 7:03Speaker 2: mouth off and get everybody of the Titans mat That's
- 7:06Speaker 2: gonna happen.
- 7:06Speaker 7: And it's gonna be awesome because that is his strength
- 7:09Speaker 7: and they wanted McDonald wants it.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Yes, he's not tamping that down.
- 7:14Speaker 2: No, No, he wants them to push it. And maybe
- 7:16Speaker 2: go across that line a little bit. So, Yeah, as
- 7:18Speaker 2: long as dudes don't take off their helmets and start
- 7:20Speaker 2: flinging them at each other, which happens too, then that's
- 7:23Speaker 2: when it drosses the line. And but McDonald is gonna
- 7:27Speaker 2: make sure he tells those guys just keep your helmets on,
- 7:29Speaker 2: don't use a hand to hit a helmet, stuff like that.
- 7:33Speaker 2: You saw Kenneth Walker. I thought Kenneth Walker fight, his
- 7:35Speaker 2: fight in Kansas City Chiefs Practice a couple of weeks
- 7:38Speaker 2: ago is brilliant. He just did a suplex takedown of
- 7:41Speaker 2: a guy and just tackled him.
- 7:44Speaker 7: He's a nine point, he's obviously stacked when it comes
- 7:47Speaker 7: to his body, but he's not like the biggest dude.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Right, But that's a smart way not to get hurt. Yeah,
- 7:52Speaker 2: just rugby roll somebody to the ground. I mean, that's
- 7:54Speaker 2: the way to fight. So that's the kind of stuff
- 7:56Speaker 2: that Sea Hawks will be talking about. But yeah, they're
- 7:59Speaker 2: already talking about this rookie talent show. It's gonna be
- 8:03Speaker 2: on Friday Night. That's gonna be the highlight of most of.
- 8:05Speaker 7: The guess we'll hear from grades Abel later on in
- 8:08Speaker 7: the show at ten forty five.
- 8:09Speaker 5: But I know that he just went through it.
- 8:12Speaker 7: Yes, so he has the most tangible information.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yes he does. And you will hear what he did
- 8:18Speaker 2: last year. It may surprise some of you. He claimed
- 8:22Speaker 2: he was pretty good at it. You'll hear what his
- 8:24Speaker 2: skit was coming up, that is at ten forty five. Well,
- 8:27Speaker 2: at eleven o'clock you're hear Tron Diggs why he signed
- 8:30Speaker 2: with Seattle over to Detroit who he also visited, and others,
- 8:33Speaker 2: what his goal is. Here we'll talk about the fit,
- 8:37Speaker 2: how it affects a Terry on Arnold's situation, and then
- 8:41Speaker 2: we're gonna talk about a ridiculous, I mean ridiculous development
- 8:45Speaker 2: in the already ridiculous world of Jessman's college football. NFL
- 8:50Speaker 2: players currently in training camps, including a Seahawk, may have
- 8:54Speaker 2: just become eligible to play college football again. As in
- 8:57Speaker 2: beginning this week. It's come on, it's unbelievable. A judge
- 9:01Speaker 2: in Louisiana has granted a temporary restraining order that will
- 9:06Speaker 2: enable players who are currently in NFL training camps to
- 9:10Speaker 2: go back and play college football with a next year
- 9:12Speaker 2: of eligibility.
- 9:13Speaker 7: And we're all under the assumption this is obviously not starters.
- 9:16Speaker 7: These are guys that are going to get cut when
- 9:18Speaker 7: they do the cut down to fifty three.
- 9:20Speaker 2: There was a dude for the Buccaneers, a line We're
- 9:22Speaker 2: gonna talk about this, but there's a linebacker for the
- 9:23Speaker 2: Buccaneers who had two sacks in a preseason NFL preseason
- 9:26Speaker 2: game last week who is now eligible to go by
- 9:29Speaker 2: this court order to go back to college football. He
- 9:31Speaker 2: played for LSU last year. Two sacks for the Buccaneers.
- 9:34Speaker 2: They're a pro team, by the way. The Buccaneers in
- 9:37Speaker 2: a preseason.
- 9:37Speaker 7: Game A nice reminder, by the way, they still are
- 9:40Speaker 7: a pro team. They did not yet relegated, and.
- 9:42Speaker 2: This cat could be playing Nickels State or whoever the
- 9:44Speaker 2: hell LSU opens with in two weeks. College in the college,
- 9:50Speaker 2: we're gonna talk about this. College presidents are just asleep
- 9:52Speaker 2: at the switch.
- 9:54Speaker 5: They have been for ages.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Yes, yes, afraid to get ensued so they don't do
- 9:57Speaker 2: a damn thing and watch the money roll in. It's
- 9:59Speaker 2: just Groves. We'll talk about that development out of Louisiana.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I was trying to get the agent of TJ. Hard
- 10:05Speaker 2: Why am I talking about TJ.
- 10:06Speaker 8: Harden?
- 10:07Speaker 2: Remember the Seahawks running back who just ran straight into
- 10:09Speaker 2: the line at the goal line the other night, and
- 10:11Speaker 2: the failed three plays the Seahawks had on the first
- 10:14Speaker 2: and goal from the five against Dallas. Well, the Seahawks
- 10:17Speaker 2: cut TJ. Harden, undrafted rookie from SMU after that performance.
- 10:21Speaker 2: He also cut the other undrafted running back, rookie running
- 10:24Speaker 2: back Jones, who did the same thing in the same series.
- 10:27Speaker 2: They cut those two. Well, TJ. Harden is part of
- 10:31Speaker 2: this sixteen players that are in this judge's rolling in Louisiana. TJ.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Harden is now contemplating and is eligible to enter the
- 10:40Speaker 2: college football Portal and play college football, not next year,
- 10:44Speaker 2: next week. He just played for the Seahawks last weekend.
- 10:48Speaker 2: He's going to go into the portal and can be
- 10:50Speaker 2: eligible now because of this judge's ordered to play college
- 10:53Speaker 2: football next week. Four nine, four to five. One is
- 10:56Speaker 2: enough enough in college football? Are you to the point
- 10:57Speaker 2: where you're like, I'm done or are you so like, hey,
- 11:00Speaker 2: that's great, I'll just still keep watching.
- 11:02Speaker 7: I think that the loyalty that comes with college football
- 11:04Speaker 7: will precede everything.
- 11:06Speaker 5: It'll you know, override and the majority of those feelings.
- 11:11Speaker 7: But some people are just going to be like, I'm
- 11:13Speaker 7: waiting till Seahawks.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Are we in college football? Are we just rooting for
- 11:16Speaker 2: laundry right now? Are we just rooting for colors because
- 11:20Speaker 2: the players come and go?
- 11:22Speaker 7: Right?
- 11:23Speaker 2: So what are we paying for? And what are we
- 11:25Speaker 2: cheering for? Are we cheering for because they're crimson for
- 11:28Speaker 2: the Kuges and purple for the Huskies? Are we cheering
- 11:31Speaker 2: for colors? Are we actually cheering for players? Coaches? It's
- 11:36Speaker 2: tougher and tougher to do that when dudes are coming
- 11:39Speaker 2: and going, when dudes are entering the NFL and now
- 11:41Speaker 2: coming back to college, right, I mean, come on, Walter
- 11:44Speaker 2: Jones has college eligibility left while we're at it, technically
- 11:47Speaker 2: he only played four years at Florida State. Bring them
- 11:50Speaker 2: back for a fifth year? I mean where do we stop? Yeah?
- 11:55Speaker 7: I mean, and then you look at I mean, guys
- 11:57Speaker 7: without big contracts and everything, and all of a sudden,
- 12:00Speaker 7: this is it probably nil deals flying at someone who's
- 12:03Speaker 7: had NFL experience, who still has eligibility. And also with
- 12:07Speaker 7: the way this is one judge right sore how this
- 12:12Speaker 7: would go and if it all of a sudden gets
- 12:16Speaker 7: overturned in the middle of the season.
- 12:19Speaker 5: Exactly right, like this could change at any moment if.
- 12:22Speaker 2: They appeal it or if a school it. But but
- 12:24Speaker 2: here's the thing. Schools and meaning college presidents don't stand
- 12:28Speaker 2: in the way of any of this because they're afraid
- 12:30Speaker 2: to get ensued and are they're already their budgets are
- 12:33Speaker 2: already tightened because they have to share revenue. The last
- 12:35Speaker 2: thing they want is a lawsuit in legal fees that
- 12:38Speaker 2: the university has to pay for. When some of these
- 12:41Speaker 2: universities are subsidizing athletic programs so they can revenue share.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Many schools in Division I call it by big time
- 12:48Speaker 2: power for college football, and even smaller ones are using
- 12:52Speaker 2: student fees to pay for revenue sharing for college football
- 12:55Speaker 2: and basketball play. Now, how do you make that feel?
- 12:58Speaker 2: If you're a parent of a geology major at you
- 13:03Speaker 2: dub and you're paying for Demon Williams to come back
- 13:07Speaker 2: to school. Come on, maybe that geology student isn't even
- 13:12Speaker 2: hasn't even gone to a football game, and you're going
- 13:14Speaker 2: to raise the bill, the tuition bill on a college parent,
- 13:18Speaker 2: so that our football team can keep the quarterback or
- 13:21Speaker 2: the wide receiver. The right, that's happening in college football
- 13:23Speaker 2: right now.
- 13:24Speaker 5: It's bad.
- 13:25Speaker 2: It's bad.
- 13:26Speaker 7: I mean, I've been pissed for years now. As you
- 13:28Speaker 7: might imagine, yes, considering.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Imagine you're watching it up close so here. Yeah, it's
- 13:34Speaker 2: just unbelievable. So attorneys are getting paid. In this story
- 13:38Speaker 2: yesterday from On three Sports that broke this story about
- 13:40Speaker 2: this ruling temporary restraining order by a judge down in Louisiana,
- 13:46Speaker 2: Attorneys on the case are Ryan Downton and Mark Pepper. Well,
- 13:49Speaker 2: guess what those dudes are getting paid to. The lawyers
- 13:53Speaker 2: are getting paid, players are getting paid, and we're getting
- 13:58Speaker 2: stuff like NFL players eligible for college football next week.
- 14:01Speaker 2: This is from the On three Sports story. Per the
- 14:04Speaker 2: signed order by the judge in Louisiana, the sixteen college
- 14:07Speaker 2: football players named in the complaint will be allowed to
- 14:11Speaker 2: enter the transfer portal. The NCAA's rule of restitution and
- 14:14Speaker 2: the ghost transfer rule are also enjoined. Quote from the
- 14:18Speaker 2: temporary restraining order by the judge Louisiana quote the NCAA
- 14:21Speaker 2: is ordered to open the transfer portal from one week
- 14:24Speaker 2: for one week from entry of this order, meaning today
- 14:28Speaker 2: a judge in Louisiana is just ruling that college football
- 14:32Speaker 2: is now open to a transfer portal in the middle
- 14:34Speaker 2: of preseason practice, out of nowhere.
- 14:38Speaker 7: Out of nowhere, there's no foresight. They're reactive and not proactive.
- 14:43Speaker 7: The NCAA has been for ages.
- 14:45Speaker 2: But let's not forget Jessaman, I brought you know this,
- 14:48Speaker 2: but I want to bring it up again for the listeners.
- 14:50Speaker 2: The NCAA is not just a building in Indianapolis, a lifeless,
- 14:55Speaker 2: faceless And it's not just what was Mark Emmert and
- 14:58Speaker 2: now the new Prayer. It's not them. It's the member institutions.
- 15:01Speaker 2: All the legislation, all the rules that the NCAA has
- 15:05Speaker 2: and doesn't have and watches it stand by, is voted
- 15:08Speaker 2: on by the members the schools and not the athletic directors,
- 15:13Speaker 2: but the college presidents. And the college presidents are so
- 15:17Speaker 2: fearful of lawsuits that they have just decided to throw
- 15:21Speaker 2: up their hands since the House settlement and say, forget it,
- 15:24Speaker 2: we're not challenging anything transfer portal, sure, nil deals. Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 2: we don't have to worry about legislating that. Whatever.
- 15:31Speaker 7: They could have thought about it with Obanon all the
- 15:33Speaker 7: way back in the day, that's right in.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Video games and all that. And meanwhile they were building
- 15:38Speaker 2: palaces and paying coaches ten million a year and not
- 15:41Speaker 2: giving the players anything. I'm all for the players getting paid,
- 15:44Speaker 2: I'm not for lawlessness and allowed them to have anything
- 15:47Speaker 2: goes and dudes off the street becoming agents of college
- 15:51Speaker 2: players and taking twenty twenty five percent of their NIL
- 15:54Speaker 2: deal when NFL agents only get three percent.
- 15:57Speaker 7: Year old players who don't know anything about any of that,
- 16:02Speaker 7: and they just have a guy get in their ear
- 16:03Speaker 7: who could be a grease ball.
- 16:05Speaker 5: I mean not saying they all are, but could be.
- 16:07Speaker 2: There's a lot of them.
- 16:08Speaker 7: There's a lot of them that will just go, I
- 16:10Speaker 7: can get you this, that and that, and they make
- 16:13Speaker 7: promises that they're not legally obligated to keep.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Also, so there's a there's a player on the Seahawks
- 16:19Speaker 2: roster right now, Anthony Hankerson, who played college football for
- 16:22Speaker 2: a couple of years of Colorado. He finished his career
- 16:24Speaker 2: at Oregon State. He ran over the Huskies one game.
- 16:28Speaker 2: He's just got signed last week to the Seahawks, and
- 16:32Speaker 2: it actually is this week. Right after they cut those
- 16:34Speaker 2: two running backs, including TJ. Harden, they brought in Hankerson.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Hankerson is one of the sixteen people named in this
- 16:39Speaker 2: complaint who just got eligibility yesterday by this temporary restraining
- 16:43Speaker 2: order by judge in Louisiana. If Anthony Hankerson feels like it,
- 16:47Speaker 2: he doesn't have to get on the plane to go
- 16:49Speaker 2: to the Seahawks today. He may in fact make more
- 16:51Speaker 2: money and play more by going back to college football.
- 16:55Speaker 2: And he's on the Seahawks roster right now. That is
- 16:59Speaker 2: how absurd this, I mean, seriously, it's Walter Jones, Matt Hasselbeck,
- 17:04Speaker 2: Max Strong, Hey, Sean Allen's there, come on down. If
- 17:07Speaker 2: you haven't played five years, now that it's five years
- 17:09Speaker 2: now that it is.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Which it wasn't for that correct, But now, so.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Let's go judge in there and say, hey, Walter Jones,
- 17:16Speaker 2: you got an extra year oldgibility, come on back. It's
- 17:19Speaker 2: just I mean, draw a line somewhere please. And the
- 17:22Speaker 2: college presidents won't, no, they won't. But they'll collect the
- 17:26Speaker 2: TV revenue from ESPN, they'll collect the college football playoff revenue,
- 17:31Speaker 2: they'll collect season ticket revenue, but they won't do a
- 17:34Speaker 2: damn thing about stuff like this. When someone needs to
- 17:37Speaker 2: stand up and say, nah, we're not no, they are eligible. No,
- 17:41Speaker 2: we're not playing players who are in NFL training camps
- 17:44Speaker 2: on our college campuses. No, we're not doing it, and
- 17:47Speaker 2: no one's doing that. Four nine four five one is
- 17:50Speaker 2: the talk back line will read back your text at
- 17:52Speaker 2: eleven thirty. Like Jessman and I those of us that
- 17:56Speaker 2: have been in college football, I still, as I mentioned,
- 17:59Speaker 2: teach at the University of interco Collegiate athletic leadership for
- 18:02Speaker 2: coaches and athletic directors. I have to deal with these
- 18:04Speaker 2: issues all the time in class with them, and they
- 18:07Speaker 2: bring up questions like what do we do? How do
- 18:10Speaker 2: we And my advice right that now to them is
- 18:13Speaker 2: go to pros and go to high school. Stay the
- 18:15Speaker 2: hell out of college sports if you want a job,
- 18:18Speaker 2: because we don't know what tomorrow is going to be,
- 18:21Speaker 2: and we don't know what the budgets of athletic departments
- 18:23Speaker 2: already even hire you anymore. And just when they hire you,
- 18:26Speaker 2: they can fire you because they need your money to
- 18:28Speaker 2: go pay the backup quarterback up next.
- 18:35Speaker 7: I think that you said it all just well.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I feel like I just stepped on a soapbox again.
- 18:39Speaker 7: But I like that soapbox. I'm there with you. I'm
- 18:43Speaker 7: making sure you don't slip off of it.
- 18:44Speaker 2: I appreciate you. It's life boy from Nashville. Up next,
- 18:49Speaker 2: Why did the Seahawks sign Trevon Diggs? What's it due
- 18:52Speaker 2: to the agreement they have to sign Tara and Arnold.
- 18:55Speaker 2: We'll explain all of that. Ten forty five you'll here
- 18:58Speaker 2: from Gray's abel and what he didat year in the
- 19:00Speaker 2: Rookie Talent Show. He was impressed with himself by the way.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Eleven o'clock fill here from Trevon Diggs himself. I'm here
- 19:08Speaker 2: in Nashville before the Seahawks get here. On ninety three
- 19:10Speaker 2: point three KJRFM. Hi, welcome back, Craig Bell in Nashville,
- 19:29Speaker 2: Jessmen McIntyre back in Seattle, and our Elliott Bay Studios.
- 19:32Speaker 2: On ninety three point three KJRFM. Why am I in
- 19:34Speaker 2: Nashville because the Seahawks are going to be here in
- 19:36Speaker 2: a few hours. They're flying here right now. I'm here
- 19:39Speaker 2: ahead of them so I can have the show, Dude,
- 19:41Speaker 2: from this comfy studio and air conditioning when it's ninety
- 19:45Speaker 2: degrees and you got to thank you.
- 19:47Speaker 5: To our brethren out in Nashville.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Pretty cool set up here right in the gulch of
- 19:51Speaker 2: downtown Nashville. Brand, big, expansive studio. Man, this thing is huge,
- 19:56Speaker 2: big picture windows that overlook downtown and Broadway Music Row.
- 20:00Speaker 2: It's pretty cool here in Nashville. Seahawks joint practice with
- 20:04Speaker 2: the Titans is tomorrow. I'll be on the edge of
- 20:05Speaker 2: the practice field broadcasting live from that. The only Seattle
- 20:09Speaker 2: entity that I know of that's going to re reporting
- 20:11Speaker 2: and broadcasting live from Seahawks Titans joint practice before the
- 20:16Speaker 2: preseason game number two on Sunday night. I know a
- 20:19Speaker 2: lot of you listen and read. All of you listeners
- 20:21Speaker 2: read the Seattle Times. I encourage you to subscribe to
- 20:24Speaker 2: the News Tribune for ninety nine cents for six months.
- 20:26Speaker 2: But deal not ninety cents a month, ninety nine cents
- 20:30Speaker 2: for six months the News Tribune dot com.
- 20:33Speaker 7: I'm with you on that one.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Thank you. Just man the Seattle Times. So I know
- 20:37Speaker 2: a lot of you read the Seattle Times because this
- 20:39Speaker 2: is a sports talk radio show. I know a to
- 20:41Speaker 2: read the sports section, and a lot of you read
- 20:43Speaker 2: Matt Hawkins. Matt Hawkins announced this morning something I knew
- 20:47Speaker 2: last week. After eleven years as a sports columnist at
- 20:50Speaker 2: the Seattle Times, Matt Cowkins has decided to resign. Matt
- 20:54Speaker 2: Cowkin's posting this on his social media account this morning.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Quote it was entirely my choice and not an easy one.
- 21:00Speaker 2: The impetus was The Times deciding declining to run a
- 21:03Speaker 2: column I wrote from the perspective of two female student
- 21:06Speaker 2: athletes who were opposed to competing against biological males. It
- 21:10Speaker 2: was one of several pieces of mine that had been spiked,
- 21:13Speaker 2: and I no longer feel I could properly do my
- 21:15Speaker 2: job as a columnist. I lay out the situation in
- 21:18Speaker 2: greater detail on the link blow you can go to
- 21:20Speaker 2: his at Matt Underscore Calkins Celki and asked on Twitter
- 21:23Speaker 2: if you want to read it, But I want to
- 21:26Speaker 2: say that I enjoyed my time with the paper, find
- 21:28Speaker 2: the talent there to be immense, and have no animosity
- 21:31Speaker 2: toward anyone who works there. It was just time for
- 21:33Speaker 2: a change. Matt Cowkins is resigning as the sports columnist,
- 21:38Speaker 2: one of two, Mike Vareill the other at the Seattle
- 21:41Speaker 2: Times four nine four five one. If you have any
- 21:46Speaker 2: feedback on that, we'll read it back at eleven thirty talkbacks.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Jessman loves talkbacks. You go to the iHeartRadio app.
- 21:52Speaker 5: You know what I do when I'm sitting here in
- 21:54Speaker 5: the dark without you here.
- 21:55Speaker 7: I like the voices on the air, No, I just
- 21:59Speaker 7: always liked them, and I think that we've especially with
- 22:02Speaker 7: your opening segment on what's going on in college football.
- 22:04Speaker 7: I really want to hear people's opinions on that.
- 22:07Speaker 2: If you missed it off the top. A judge in
- 22:09Speaker 2: Louisiana has granted a temporary restraining order, which is effectively
- 22:13Speaker 2: law until someone else challenges it or appeals it, that
- 22:17Speaker 2: sixteen players whose college eligibility they thought had ended can
- 22:23Speaker 2: go back and play another year. Part of it is
- 22:25Speaker 2: the five years of eligibility that every college player now
- 22:29Speaker 2: gets as of six months ago. Included in that list
- 22:32Speaker 2: is TJ. Harden. He can now go back to play
- 22:34Speaker 2: college football. He played for the Seahawks last weekend. He
- 22:38Speaker 2: can play college football tomorrow next week in the opener
- 22:42Speaker 2: in ten days. And also on that list is Anthony Hankerson,
- 22:46Speaker 2: who's currently on the Seahawks roster as a running back
- 22:49Speaker 2: rookie from Oregon State and Colorado is now eligible to
- 22:52Speaker 2: play college football if he so chooses. I'll be looking
- 22:55Speaker 2: to Marriscie if Anthony Hankerson's on the field here and
- 22:57Speaker 2: If he's not, that means you didn't get on the play.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Be go back to play college football. The judge's orders
- 23:02Speaker 2: says that the players in the complaints, sixteen of them,
- 23:05Speaker 2: including a Buccaneers linebacker from LSU who had two sacks
- 23:08Speaker 2: in an NFL preseason game last week, can go into
- 23:10Speaker 2: the transfer portal effective immediately. Immediately. What are we doing?
- 23:17Speaker 2: That's four nine four talkback. We will play those back
- 23:20Speaker 2: at eleven thirty. Okay, yesterday Trevon Jiggs Tuesday he tried out.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Yesterday he signed. It was one of the quickest turnarounds
- 23:27Speaker 2: I can remember. Why. Well, the Seahawks are pivoting here
- 23:31Speaker 2: in a practical sense as their third quarterback corner with
- 23:33Speaker 2: a sea back situation. It's obvious Mike McDonald does not
- 23:37Speaker 2: like what he has currently. He started camp with Neemaiah Pritchett,
- 23:42Speaker 2: the unproven third year vet that they got in the
- 23:45Speaker 2: draft out of Auburn. A few years ago. He was
- 23:47Speaker 2: the third cornerback with Josh Job and Devin Witherspoon relate. Recently,
- 23:52Speaker 2: they've gone to Noah Igbinoghany, who we interviewed a couple
- 23:55Speaker 2: of weeks ago. The eight year veteran that Dan Quinn
- 23:57Speaker 2: turned into a nickelback for the Washington Commanders a couple
- 23:59Speaker 2: years go and changed his career. Well, Nicol is where
- 24:03Speaker 2: he's been playing more instead of Pritchett. Pritchett had been
- 24:06Speaker 2: moving outside. Witherspoon has gone an inside when they went
- 24:09Speaker 2: the three cornerbacks at the starter camp. Now Witherspoon is
- 24:12Speaker 2: sometimes staying outside when Igmanogheny comes in in scrimmages to
- 24:16Speaker 2: play nickel. Well, here comes Trevon Diggs. Twenty one All
- 24:20Speaker 2: Pro with the Dallas Cowboys led the league with eleven
- 24:23Speaker 2: interceptions and two returns for touchdowns that year. The next year,
- 24:26Speaker 2: twenty twenty two, is third in the NFL after the
- 24:29Speaker 2: Cowboys drafted him in the second round Alabama twenty twenty two.
- 24:34Speaker 2: He was also a Pro Bowl selection. Twenty twenty two
- 24:37Speaker 2: is the last year that Trevon Diggs has played an
- 24:39Speaker 2: entire season in the league. So that's one red alarm
- 24:43Speaker 2: and that's partly why he was available in mid August
- 24:47Speaker 2: last year. Jessmon, do you know how he got uninjured
- 24:50Speaker 2: reserve and missed half the season? I don't. He got
- 24:53Speaker 2: a concussion. Okay, you think, Well, he got.
- 24:57Speaker 5: A week to ten days. Maybe correct.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so you think, okay, he got a concussion, maybe
- 25:03Speaker 2: head to head home, up to home of contact. Right, No,
- 25:06Speaker 2: he got a concussion in his house. I asked him
- 25:10Speaker 2: about this concussion yesterday and he told me the story
- 25:14Speaker 2: had been Gentilator down in Dallas wrote this story last winter,
- 25:17Speaker 2: and I just wanted to confirm the details were true.
- 25:19Speaker 2: He was installing a television into the wall of his
- 25:22Speaker 2: house at home.
- 25:23Speaker 5: Oh man, the television guy for that.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the television slipped out of his hand and fell
- 25:29Speaker 2: on his head.
- 25:30Speaker 7: Oh that's awful and a concussion. This is a guy
- 25:34Speaker 7: who gets hit for a living.
- 25:36Speaker 2: How big is that tv? Was it like ninety inches?
- 25:39Speaker 2: I mean that the NFL? That must be a theater television.
- 25:43Speaker 7: There's different ways you can get concussions. I've had three
- 25:46Speaker 7: in my life, and some of them seem more innocuous
- 25:50Speaker 7: than the other big hits that you've tried to concussion.
- 25:53Speaker 2: That explains everything.
- 25:54Speaker 7: Just I'm going to say the listeners will not be
- 25:57Speaker 7: surprised to hear that. Well, it was all sports related,
- 26:01Speaker 7: but some of them, the impact that I had did
- 26:05Speaker 7: not seem you know, concussion worthy.
- 26:08Speaker 5: But it can happen.
- 26:10Speaker 2: But didn't you play volleyball?
- 26:12Speaker 7: I did, But the floor does not lie Greg when
- 26:14Speaker 7: you're diving for a ball and your head is the
- 26:16Speaker 7: first thing to hit the turf. I also yeah, I
- 26:20Speaker 7: also got one when I was playing on a playground
- 26:24Speaker 7: when I was younger, and a lacrosse net, you know
- 26:27Speaker 7: the big metal bars and everything that were just on this.
- 26:29Speaker 7: You know, it was probably like ten The whole thing
- 26:32Speaker 7: came down because we were all playing on it, and
- 26:34Speaker 7: that literally landed. My head hit the grass and the
- 26:39Speaker 7: bar fell right on my forehead. So I got one
- 26:41Speaker 7: of those. I also got one from a horse.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yes you are in equestrian, Yes, uh fell off the horse?
- 26:49Speaker 5: No I did not. I was walking the horse back.
- 26:52Speaker 2: You got hoofed.
- 26:53Speaker 7: Nope, neck, You would not think that that would do that.
- 26:57Speaker 7: But the horse got spooked, you know, so all of
- 27:00Speaker 7: the tacking was off and everything, just walking it back
- 27:03Speaker 7: to a barn and it got spooked by a sheet
- 27:05Speaker 7: that was blowing in the wind and it went whoof.
- 27:08Speaker 7: I got lifted up off the ground and his whole
- 27:13Speaker 7: neck Thank god it wasn't his face because that's all bones.
- 27:16Speaker 7: Lifted me off the ground. And you know the horse
- 27:19Speaker 7: ran away. It wasn't going at me or anything, and anyway,
- 27:23Speaker 7: I landed on the ground, broken nose, two black eyes,
- 27:27Speaker 7: and then concussion to boot.
- 27:29Speaker 2: How old were you when that happened?
- 27:30Speaker 5: Thirteen? Wow, the only true athletic.
- 27:35Speaker 7: Concussion I got was playing volleyball.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Your college football coach's father must be proud of you
- 27:43Speaker 2: for having three concussions. Oh, very different ways.
- 27:45Speaker 7: Oh my gosh, my head was throbbing with that horse
- 27:47Speaker 7: one and just looks at me and he goes, oh,
- 27:50Speaker 7: you're going to have two really good shiners tomorrow. He
- 27:53Speaker 7: was so proud of the fact that I was going
- 27:55Speaker 7: to have some true black eyes.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I've met just recognized father. He is sawt of
- 28:01Speaker 2: the earth. I mean, like a caricter. If you could
- 28:04Speaker 2: pick out what a college football coach should look like,
- 28:07Speaker 2: he is a year poor john, no nonsense crew cut.
- 28:12Speaker 2: He's the guy.
- 28:13Speaker 7: He was walking around during the Army Navy game and
- 28:16Speaker 7: people were taking him for a service.
- 28:19Speaker 2: I could totally see that. He looks like I bet
- 28:22Speaker 2: colonels and sergeant majors who don't look as formidable as
- 28:25Speaker 2: your dad. I can totally see that. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 28:28Speaker 7: Coach Mac has still got it. I can tell you that.
- 28:31Speaker 7: But that was me at thirteen. Yes, he was so
- 28:33Speaker 7: proud of the fact that I would have two Shiners
- 28:35Speaker 7: as his firstborn daughter.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Okay, so, why well, how does Trevon Diggs signing? First
- 28:42Speaker 2: of all, when's he gonna play? Well, I asked him,
- 28:44Speaker 2: do you think you could play in the last preseason?
- 28:45Speaker 2: He's not gonna play in this one because he hasn't
- 28:47Speaker 2: been on the field since January, when he played two
- 28:49Speaker 2: games with the Green Bay Packers after Cowboys cut him
- 28:52Speaker 2: following the TV falling on his face. He came back.
- 28:55Speaker 2: He played total of just seven games last year for
- 28:58Speaker 2: the Cowboys. They released him at the end of December.
- 29:00Speaker 2: The Packers signed him. He played one regular season finale,
- 29:03Speaker 2: one playoff game. I think he had one tackle in
- 29:05Speaker 2: one play, and then they cut him in mid January.
- 29:09Speaker 2: He's been out since then. Why well, One is he
- 29:12Speaker 2: hasn't played a full season since twenty twenty two. He
- 29:14Speaker 2: just he's going to turn twenty eight next month. The
- 29:16Speaker 2: other reason is, just when we've talked about this, it's
- 29:19Speaker 2: the same thing as the Aaron Donald deal down in LA.
- 29:21Speaker 2: These veterans, once they get to their upper twenties, early thirties.
- 29:24Speaker 2: They don't want to be coming into training camp in
- 29:26Speaker 2: August and tenth fifteenth. And it's a grind, guys.
- 29:31Speaker 5: Walter Drones special right there, exactly.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Walter Jones used to just good reference. Walter Jones used
- 29:36Speaker 2: to push trucks down in his hometown in Alabama until
- 29:39Speaker 2: he just damn well felt like he wanted to come
- 29:41Speaker 2: and to be ready. And if you're a Hall of Famer,
- 29:46Speaker 2: you knew what every hell you want. Just show up
- 29:47Speaker 2: when the games get real. Well, Tron Diggs doesn't want
- 29:51Speaker 2: to come into training camp on August the first or
- 29:52Speaker 2: July the twenty fifth. He wants to come in when
- 29:55Speaker 2: you Donald pleases. And because he had multiple suitors that
- 29:58Speaker 2: he had tried out or visited with the Detroit Lions,
- 30:01Speaker 2: he said he had other They always say this, but
- 30:03Speaker 2: they said they had other teams interested as well. Why
- 30:06Speaker 2: do you choose a Seahawks familiarity is college? The college
- 30:10Speaker 2: coach is defensive backs coach at Alabama is Carl Scott,
- 30:13Speaker 2: now the Seahawks defensive backs coach. He played on the
- 30:16Speaker 2: Cowboys with DeMarcus Lawrence at in Dirty the Seahawks defensive
- 30:20Speaker 2: coordinator was his defensive line coach when he was in
- 30:23Speaker 2: the secondary in Dallas. Noah Igbinoghany was a teammate. Dante
- 30:26Speaker 2: Fowler was a teammate in Dallas. Josh Job was a
- 30:30Speaker 2: teammate of Diggs in Alabama. Familiarity is why he said
- 30:35Speaker 2: he's here. But he picked his time and picked a
- 30:37Speaker 2: spot and here he is. Okay, when can he play?
- 30:40Speaker 2: He won't play this weekend. I asked him about Kansas
- 30:43Speaker 2: City next Friday. He said, maybe he's got to get
- 30:47Speaker 2: in football shit, because he hasn't been in pads for
- 30:49Speaker 2: what eight months now, seven and a half months. So
- 30:54Speaker 2: how's this effect Terry on Arnold? Well, as we talked
- 30:58Speaker 2: about yesterday, But if he missed it, there is no
- 31:00Speaker 2: impetus now that the commissioner is going to put him
- 31:03Speaker 2: on the exemp list as soon as Arnold signs with
- 31:05Speaker 2: the Seahawks. There's no reason to sign him now because
- 31:07Speaker 2: if you do so, you're going to have to cut
- 31:09Speaker 2: somebody off the ninety man roster. So why not wait
- 31:14Speaker 2: until the end of the preseason. After that Kansas City
- 31:17Speaker 2: game on August twenty eighth, cuts our August thirtieth, they're
- 31:20Speaker 2: going to sign him on August twenty ninth, because they
- 31:22Speaker 2: will already have the evaluations done of all ninety players,
- 31:25Speaker 2: they knew who they want to cut. Anyway, they'll cut
- 31:27Speaker 2: a one dude and bring on Arnold on the twenty ninth.
- 31:30Speaker 2: The legal put him on the exemp list on the thirtieth,
- 31:34Speaker 2: and that way he'll be roster example, without taking up
- 31:36Speaker 2: somebody who you were evaluating in the preseason, because the
- 31:38Speaker 2: evaluation will be over after the Kansas City preseason game.
- 31:41Speaker 2: So that's what the Arnold situation stands now, a layaway
- 31:45Speaker 2: deal for sure that perhaps he could play later in
- 31:48Speaker 2: the season if the legal process goes his way. In
- 31:50Speaker 2: the meantime, they now have a cornerback of veteran cornback
- 31:53Speaker 2: who can play in practice right now, and that's Trevon Diggs.
- 31:57Speaker 2: He'll get a chance to be the third cornerback behind
- 31:59Speaker 2: Josh job which teammate at Alabama, and Devin Witherspoon four
- 32:02Speaker 2: nine four y five one. Your reaction to all of that,
- 32:05Speaker 2: if you believe they should just abandon the terry On
- 32:07Speaker 2: Arnold pursuit now that they've got Trevon Diggs, it's how
- 32:10Speaker 2: it's not worth it. We will read back your text
- 32:13Speaker 2: at eleven thirty up next Gray's Abel. He enjoys this
- 32:17Speaker 2: weekend in particular because of the rookie talent show that
- 32:20Speaker 2: comes after the joint practice tomorrow. And well you'll hear
- 32:23Speaker 2: from grays Abel and what he did last year as
- 32:24Speaker 2: a rookie in his talent show performance. It might surprise you.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Eleven o'clock you'll hear from Trevon Diggs himself before the
- 32:31Speaker 2: Seahawks get here to Nashville on ninety three point three KJRFM, Hi,
- 32:51Speaker 2: welcome back to Nashville, Greg Bell, News Tribune, Jesse and
- 32:54Speaker 2: McIntyre back in Seattle and their Elliott Bay studios were
- 32:56Speaker 2: on every day ten am the noon on ninety three
- 32:58Speaker 2: point three KJRFM. You're gonna hear from Trevon Diggs after
- 33:02Speaker 2: eleven o'clock. Right now, you're gonna hear from Gray's Abel,
- 33:05Speaker 2: the rookie left guard, stud rookie left guard, last year,
- 33:08Speaker 2: first round draft pick. He's gonna tell us on what
- 33:11Speaker 2: the value of this joint practice weekend in Nashville is.
- 33:13Speaker 2: And it's not all on the field, Okay, When.
- 33:15Speaker 9: You were a rookie last year, you guys went on
- 33:17Speaker 9: the road for a joint practice.
- 33:18Speaker 10: What did that kind of extra.
- 33:19Speaker 9: Time on the road would the team do for terms
- 33:22Speaker 9: of bond and getting to know everybody as a newcomer
- 33:24Speaker 9: to the team.
- 33:25Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean when we went to Green Bay last year,
- 33:28Speaker 11: that's kind of when we realized how special of the
- 33:30Speaker 11: team that we had went there. I thought we had
- 33:33Speaker 11: a fairly good joint practice versus them. And then you
- 33:36Speaker 11: obviously get to have their rookie talent show to kind
- 33:39Speaker 11: of bring the team together and have fun and have
- 33:43Speaker 11: the joys of being a football team. And then uh,
- 33:47Speaker 11: just kind of brought us together and showed us kind
- 33:49Speaker 11: of our first road trip together to kind of how
- 33:52Speaker 11: things work and how to operate and what to expect.
- 33:55Speaker 2: The trick best memory of the rookie talent.
- 33:57Speaker 11: Showing same day, man, I think Fed's Mariachi band has
- 34:03Speaker 11: got to be up there. That was that was very
- 34:06Speaker 11: impressive and brought the whole singing and everything with it.
- 34:09Speaker 11: So probably that what did you do? Okay, just spit
- 34:13Speaker 11: some bars. Thanks, the future got after it, you know,
- 34:16Speaker 11: day one.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Install Creature one of your faves.
- 34:20Speaker 8: Yeah, it's just kyp.
- 34:22Speaker 11: Know your personnel and go out there and do your
- 34:25Speaker 11: best blasting that level tractor.
- 34:28Speaker 3: I hope sure.
- 34:30Speaker 12: Where do you Where do you feel like you guys'
- 34:32Speaker 12: running game is right now when you're out throw on
- 34:34Speaker 12: the field and the practices and everything.
- 34:36Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, obviously there's a lot to improve across
- 34:41Speaker 11: the entire board, but I think it showed really good
- 34:43Speaker 11: signs of how we're kind of projecting and and getting
- 34:46Speaker 11: better every single day. And when you're going against the
- 34:48Speaker 11: front like ours, it's a your find out your deficiencies
- 34:51Speaker 11: and what you need to get better at a very
- 34:53Speaker 11: rapid rate in practice, so at the end of the
- 34:57Speaker 11: day you can always improve and never finished product.
- 35:00Speaker 5: How do you think this joint practice will help you
- 35:02Speaker 5: guys in careers on that?
- 35:04Speaker 11: Yeah, I think it's just maybe a different scheme, different front,
- 35:08Speaker 11: different type of defense, and how they play certain formations
- 35:13Speaker 11: and certain run games and stuff. So it kind of
- 35:15Speaker 11: give us a different view on things. And then obviously
- 35:18Speaker 11: it just kind of shows you a little marker stick
- 35:21Speaker 11: of where we're at and how we need to improve
- 35:23Speaker 11: and and and give us a good kind of spotlight
- 35:26Speaker 11: on what to expect come this season.
- 35:28Speaker 12: I can say you guys obviously got you guys go
- 35:30Speaker 12: against the best in the NFL. All the time here,
- 35:32Speaker 12: but Jeffrey Simmons is really good too, and he'll be
- 35:33Speaker 12: going up against him too.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:35Speaker 12: I just getting that kind of experience or something like.
- 35:37Speaker 8: This that be awesome.
- 35:38Speaker 11: I mean, he's one of the best to ever play
- 35:42Speaker 11: three techs, So he's a guy that you It's one
- 35:45Speaker 11: of those deals.
- 35:45Speaker 8: We we love going against competition.
- 35:47Speaker 11: We don't straight away from it, and we want to
- 35:49Speaker 11: be the best we can be, So you got to
- 35:50Speaker 11: go and compete against the best. And I think it'll
- 35:53Speaker 11: be awesome to go out there and compete Friday and
- 35:55Speaker 11: possibly Sunday against him, and then going and and kind
- 35:59Speaker 11: of see what you're up against and improve and get
- 36:02Speaker 11: better and compete.
- 36:03Speaker 13: A few of your linemates have talked about John Benn
- 36:05Speaker 13: having kind of that old school coach and approach, but
- 36:08Speaker 13: away from the field, having some different ways of the
- 36:10Speaker 13: e reigious players Google Earth in particular something to feel
- 36:14Speaker 13: and mentioned like, what have you learned about him over
- 36:16Speaker 13: the course of the last year plus in terms of
- 36:18Speaker 13: away from the field and how he is able to
- 36:21Speaker 13: approach you guys.
- 36:22Speaker 11: Yeah, I think the best way to describe it is
- 36:25Speaker 11: there's a method to his madness. The stuff we do
- 36:29Speaker 11: to bond and get to know each other and take
- 36:33Speaker 11: breaks from meetings and get back to learning and all
- 36:35Speaker 11: that stuff. And how he coaches is there's a method
- 36:38Speaker 11: to everything that he does. I mean, he's one of
- 36:41Speaker 11: the best offensive line coaches that I've been around and
- 36:43Speaker 11: in the NFL to say the least. So he's done
- 36:47Speaker 11: a super high level and taken us to places there
- 36:50Speaker 11: we didn't even think were possible. So it's one of
- 36:54Speaker 11: those deals where you just got to keep knows of
- 36:56Speaker 11: the grindstone and just trust him and trust his process
- 36:59Speaker 11: and understand that he's coaching you because he loves you
- 37:02Speaker 11: and he wants the best out of you, and and
- 37:04Speaker 11: and you got to understand that.
- 37:06Speaker 2: He'd do for your to have him as your coach,
- 37:09Speaker 2: in particular your rookie season.
- 37:10Speaker 3: How did that?
- 37:12Speaker 11: Yeah, if you would have saw me during ot as
- 37:15Speaker 11: my rookie year and you you would have said, what
- 37:17Speaker 11: is this guy doing at the Seattle Seahawks and then
- 37:20Speaker 11: just him coaching me and helped me understand the game
- 37:22Speaker 11: and a different lens and just staying on the process
- 37:27Speaker 11: of of process over results.
- 37:30Speaker 8: And ended up being an okay rookie year.
- 37:33Speaker 11: And but there's a lot to build on and he's
- 37:35Speaker 11: understood that, and he continues to coach me every single day.
- 37:37Speaker 11: And you got to give where credit is due to
- 37:41Speaker 11: to the unbelievable coach person leader.
- 37:46Speaker 8: Just he's the best.
- 37:48Speaker 3: How were you a mess your working medicare?
- 37:51Speaker 11: I mean when you're going against some o best and
- 37:54Speaker 11: you're you're new to the the NFL, it's uh you
- 37:59Speaker 11: you get get taken to the woodshed quite oftenly so
- 38:03Speaker 11: that yeah, but at the end, it's what during the
- 38:07Speaker 11: week doesn't have to look pretty.
- 38:09Speaker 8: He's just got to be there on Sunday.
- 38:10Speaker 13: Do you ride when you win?
- 38:11Speaker 8: Moment?
- 38:11Speaker 14: Mike talks about rookies in the fog last year when
- 38:14Speaker 14: that flog lifted at all or was it any.
- 38:17Speaker 13: Certain game, And it's just a continued improvement process.
- 38:20Speaker 11: For Yeah, I think I think you said it perfectly,
- 38:24Speaker 11: like just continue to improve day after day, a week
- 38:27Speaker 11: after week, and then you get into the regular season
- 38:29Speaker 11: and then the game every single week starts to slow
- 38:32Speaker 11: down a little bit more and more, and then by
- 38:34Speaker 11: the end of the day, you're thinking you're out going
- 38:36Speaker 11: out there on Sunday and playing some of your best
- 38:38Speaker 11: ball because you've gotten every look throughout the week and
- 38:41Speaker 11: you understand what the opponent's gonna do, the looks, the blitzes,
- 38:46Speaker 11: the types of coverages that kind of show things, and
- 38:50Speaker 11: then when you get there on Sunday, the fog kind
- 38:52Speaker 11: of lifts and you can play fast and free because
- 38:54Speaker 11: you know you've kind.
- 38:55Speaker 8: Of put in the work and the preparation for it.
- 38:57Speaker 6: What are you learning about Brian Fleury as a coach or.
- 39:00Speaker 8: As a person?
- 39:02Speaker 11: Just seems like theman dot com. It's a good dude,
- 39:06Speaker 11: unbelievable coach. Love his his run first mentality and we're
- 39:09Speaker 11: gonna enjoy it. And he's doing an unbelievable job so far.
- 39:12Speaker 11: And I know he kind of demands excellence and I
- 39:15Speaker 11: love that out of a coach, and he's gonna hold
- 39:17Speaker 11: us to a standard and not waiver.
- 39:19Speaker 13: You mentioned the bond that you guys have, the offensive line,
- 39:22Speaker 13: the fine system that you guys haven't place.
- 39:24Speaker 6: How have you seen that change this year?
- 39:26Speaker 13: Being a year two, I saw Jalen Sundell was taking
- 39:28Speaker 13: a video, so I'm wondering if that that may have
- 39:30Speaker 13: been a part of your system.
- 39:32Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, it's it's one of those deals.
- 39:38Speaker 11: It's, uh, we have a fine system and obviously talking
- 39:42Speaker 11: to you guys, that would be a fine, but at
- 39:45Speaker 11: the end of the day, it's it's something we do
- 39:46Speaker 11: to have fun, keep it lighthearted in the old line
- 39:49Speaker 11: room and kind of keep everything happy, go lucky, and
- 39:53Speaker 11: then at the end of the year you normally take
- 39:54Speaker 11: an old line trip, but last year I think we
- 39:57Speaker 11: just kind of donated throughout the staff, throughout the team
- 40:00Speaker 11: and stuff because it was the middle of February and
- 40:03Speaker 11: we weren't really looking to schedule an no line trip.
- 40:05Speaker 11: Everyone want to go home after Super Bowl, So it's one.
- 40:08Speaker 8: Of those deals. I'd gladly do that year after year.
- 40:11Speaker 11: And this year I'm not getting fined as much, not
- 40:14Speaker 11: being a rookie, but yeah, I was still yet, Yeah, poor.
- 40:17Speaker 8: Boat because he's the only rookie.
- 40:19Speaker 2: You're not going no the Bow Show does not get
- 40:23Speaker 2: a break gray out on his hype man duties.
- 40:27Speaker 3: A lot to.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Improve, but it's you got to get through the storm.
- 40:31Speaker 11: You gotta get through a fog in those duties, and
- 40:34Speaker 11: luckily there's I don't think there's any more fan practices,
- 40:37Speaker 11: but uh, it's one of those deals. Just gotta wear
- 40:39Speaker 11: it on the chin and it's never gonna be good.
- 40:41Speaker 10: Enough, I do you think I'll do THEE.
- 40:44Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know. It wasn't very promising the first
- 40:48Speaker 8: one back in ot A S. But I try and
- 40:51Speaker 8: give him pointers and help all that stuff and we'll
- 40:55Speaker 8: go from there.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Did the old lineman put him up to the mc
- 40:57Speaker 2: gig or is.
- 40:58Speaker 3: That did you guys?
- 41:00Speaker 8: No?
- 41:00Speaker 11: Last year it was JB's I did to do the
- 41:03Speaker 11: rookie height machine for the fans and stuff, and it
- 41:06Speaker 11: was kind of one of those deals that first day
- 41:09Speaker 11: of fan practice, he told us in meetings and we're
- 41:11Speaker 11: all kind of looking around and then it was just
- 41:14Speaker 11: one of those deals you just had to take it
- 41:15Speaker 11: and run with it, and it was It was good
- 41:17Speaker 11: from there.
- 41:19Speaker 3: He appreciate you today.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Gray's able yesterday at press conference and Rent and a

- 45:39Speaker 12: What made a skip fit for you?
- 45:43Speaker 15: The history, seeing what these young guys, what the team
- 45:47Speaker 15: has been doing, Seeing a lot of young guys just
- 45:49Speaker 15: coming together and just being a great football team. I
- 45:53Speaker 15: know a lot of familiar faces here, Josh, Joe d Law,
- 45:57Speaker 15: just those guys talking to those guys, they're saying, great fit.
- 46:00Speaker 15: You know, just everything that they have going here, and
- 46:02Speaker 15: you know, I would love to be a part of it.
- 46:04Speaker 2: What did the coaches tell you about what they want
- 46:06Speaker 2: you to to show or what they think you're what
- 46:08Speaker 2: would you Yeah?
- 46:09Speaker 3: I just come here to compete, you know.
- 46:11Speaker 15: I just wanna come here, compete, you know, earn my keep,
- 46:14Speaker 15: you know, just do everything I can just to you know,
- 46:16Speaker 15: earn a spot here and you know, hold his team win.
- 46:19Speaker 3: When did this come together? Yesterday?
- 46:22Speaker 2: The first guy they showed interested.
- 46:25Speaker 15: Uh, yeah, they been talking to my agent for a
- 46:26Speaker 15: little bit and then they s he told me they
- 46:29Speaker 15: were gonna come down here, get me down.
- 46:30Speaker 3: For a workout.
- 46:31Speaker 10: Uh.
- 46:31Speaker 3: I came down here, I worked out, you know, and
- 46:34Speaker 3: then the rest is history with Detroit as well, and yeah,
- 46:37Speaker 3: what were yeah?
- 46:40Speaker 15: Uh, I had a visit with Detroit I was supposed
- 46:42Speaker 15: to see a couple of other teams, but you know
- 46:45Speaker 15: it's I like to hear a lot like this feels
- 46:47Speaker 15: like home. You know, I got a lot of familiar faces,
- 46:49Speaker 15: Coach Scott uh Ad, you know, so just being a
- 46:53Speaker 15: part of those guys, those guys knowing me, knowing you know,
- 46:55Speaker 15: where my heart is, knowing how how I wanna compete,
- 46:58Speaker 15: so you know it it felt right.
- 47:00Speaker 10: What are the biggest driving actor for you? Just the technique,
- 47:02Speaker 10: get some of the guys you're particularly in the secondary.
- 47:04Speaker 15: Yeah, most definitely. You know, you gotta have someone that
- 47:07Speaker 15: you know, you can relate to and talk to. You know,
- 47:09Speaker 15: guys gonna help you out and you know, push you
- 47:11Speaker 15: to to be your best, you know. And that's what
- 47:13Speaker 15: I want for myself. And that's what I wanna do.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Is the plan to start someone as your plan to
- 47:17Speaker 2: be picky and wait for the summer, find a situation
- 47:21Speaker 2: you really liked or what was your plans?
- 47:22Speaker 15: Yeah, I just finding somewhere that you know, felt like home,
- 47:25Speaker 15: you know, find it somewhere you know that I'll have
- 47:28Speaker 15: opportunity to compete, have an opportunity you know, to play
- 47:32Speaker 15: and just you know, if it felt right. You know,
- 47:33Speaker 15: that's what I want to do more to make the
- 47:35Speaker 15: right decision for me.
- 47:36Speaker 9: What do you feel like your strengths are as a
- 47:37Speaker 9: corner and where's some places that you wanting to improve my.
- 47:40Speaker 15: Strengths as a corner. I got great ball skills, you know,
- 47:44Speaker 15: a great knack for the ball. Just understanding you know,
- 47:47Speaker 15: c offenses, understanding routes, understanding you know what receivers want
- 47:51Speaker 15: to do.
- 47:51Speaker 3: You know, I think that's my abilities.
- 47:54Speaker 9: I feel like the defense that they play here, and
- 47:56Speaker 9: you know, I'm familiarity with uh Carl and Josh from
- 47:59Speaker 9: college and having them a year. How does it translate
- 48:02Speaker 9: for for what you're doing here.
- 48:03Speaker 3: It's a lot of similarities.
- 48:05Speaker 15: Just talking to Josh, you know, earlier today he was
- 48:07Speaker 15: telling us a lot of similarities. You know, he said,
- 48:10Speaker 15: gonna help me out, you know, get the playbook down.
- 48:12Speaker 15: You know, I'm gonna be in my playbook every day
- 48:14Speaker 15: just to get the whole defense down. And you know,
- 48:17Speaker 15: just being able to give myself a chance, give myself
- 48:19Speaker 15: an opportunity to come out here and compete.
- 48:21Speaker 3: And you know, help win.
- 48:22Speaker 9: And do you feel like you're fully healthy?
- 48:24Speaker 3: Most definitely.
- 48:25Speaker 15: It's my first off season that I've been able to,
- 48:27Speaker 15: uh just not rehab and actually do off season training.
- 48:31Speaker 15: So you know a lot of trainers put the work in,
- 48:34Speaker 15: help me put the work in to get to where
- 48:36Speaker 15: I'm at today. You know, I'm truly thankful for that.
- 48:37Speaker 15: And you know it's a blessing for God and from God, honestly,
- 48:41Speaker 15: just to be able to you know, come out here again.
- 48:43Speaker 10: What are you looking at the show? Obviously you had
- 48:44Speaker 10: a tough run injuries there. Now that you are healthy,
- 48:46Speaker 10: like you said, what are you looking at the show here?
- 48:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm looking to show that I'm still the best.
- 48:50Speaker 15: You know, I'm looking to show that I just want
- 48:53Speaker 15: to win, you know, be there for my teammates, to
- 48:55Speaker 15: be a great teammate, you know, uh and be a
- 48:57Speaker 15: great player.
- 48:58Speaker 13: Know what d long?
- 48:59Speaker 2: What's the having in those teen dings?
- 49:01Speaker 15: Uh, it's really good, you know, Like I said, just
- 49:03Speaker 15: having someone that you're familiar with or that you can
- 49:05Speaker 15: talk to, you know, ask questions with it helps out
- 49:08Speaker 15: a lot.
- 49:09Speaker 3: It's less you're tough for.
- 49:10Speaker 6: You with the injuries and the concussions that you ever
- 49:12Speaker 6: dealt with anything like the concussion relative.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Uh No, that was my first concussion ever.
- 49:16Speaker 7: Uh.
- 49:16Speaker 15: It was different, you know, but just overcoming uh, injuries,
- 49:20Speaker 15: you know, just adversity. Overcoming adversity period is always tough.
- 49:23Speaker 15: But you know if if you did it before, you
- 49:25Speaker 15: know you can do it again.
- 49:26Speaker 3: You know.
- 49:26Speaker 15: It's just I just wanna be able to play healthy,
- 49:29Speaker 15: you know, this year, full season and help.
- 49:33Speaker 10: What was it like trying to deal with those tu
- 49:34Speaker 10: threies coming to corner or another and just kind of feeling.
- 49:37Speaker 16: You're repeatedly in the same spot trying to.
- 49:40Speaker 10: Work back from h How was that the handlementally and
- 49:42Speaker 10: all that, and then what was the process of getting
- 49:45Speaker 10: to back when you feel like your niece is mattera,
- 49:47Speaker 10: your your back homes.
- 49:48Speaker 15: Yeah, it was tough. It was tough, but just keeping
- 49:52Speaker 15: good people around you. You know, my family was a
- 49:54Speaker 15: a great support system for me, keeping my mental straight. Uh,
- 49:59Speaker 15: just keep going, you know. You know I love football,
- 50:01Speaker 15: you know, Uh, I I just love football.
- 50:04Speaker 3: I love to play.
- 50:04Speaker 15: So this being a part of football, you know, it's
- 50:06Speaker 15: kind of like it's part of my job. It's a
- 50:08Speaker 15: part of your job. You're gonna get hurt, you gonna
- 50:09Speaker 15: have things that happen, you gonna get traded, you gonna
- 50:11Speaker 15: get cut, things happen, but you just gotta keep going.
- 50:13Speaker 9: Marcus Lawrence came here from Dallas, wanted Super Bowl last year,
- 50:16Speaker 9: and now you got Dante Vaalor here and you here
- 50:19Speaker 9: at Dirty's here.
- 50:20Speaker 8: It's like Dallas.
- 50:21Speaker 9: A lot of guys coming here from from that organization. Yeah,
- 50:24Speaker 9: what are your thoughts on on the kind of that transition?
- 50:26Speaker 9: And obviously at the different places you played.
- 50:28Speaker 15: Just being with those guys, you know, the things that
- 50:30Speaker 15: that we were doing, the the family aspect of it,
- 50:33Speaker 15: you know, I I I see a lot of similarities.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Just uh how close the guys are. You know, how
- 50:38Speaker 3: how tight the group is.
- 50:39Speaker 15: You know, uh that that's very important with a football team,
- 50:42Speaker 15: just you know, being together, you know, being one, making
- 50:44Speaker 15: sure your locker room is straight, and you know, I
- 50:46Speaker 15: see a lot of similarities there.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Good concussion, what's it?
- 50:50Speaker 3: It's true?
- 50:50Speaker 7: Is it?
- 50:51Speaker 3: You are mounting at television?
- 50:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you fell on your face or what happened?
- 50:56Speaker 3: Yeah, fell in my head?
- 50:58Speaker 2: And if you were affected for a couple of months,
- 51:00Speaker 2: you're not right.
- 51:00Speaker 15: No, it was it was only I was out of
- 51:03Speaker 15: percussion protocol in like a week, but I was dealing
- 51:05Speaker 15: with some other injuries.
- 51:08Speaker 10: Timing wise, do you like it.
- 51:09Speaker 12: You're joining the team, then you're gonna get on the
- 51:11Speaker 12: roads Rode, extend the trip to kind of start from
- 51:13Speaker 12: that bond of team.
- 51:14Speaker 3: Yeah for sure.
- 51:15Speaker 15: You know, just wanna get in with the guys, you know, vibe,
- 51:20Speaker 15: you know, get familiar with them, get familiar with new faces,
- 51:23Speaker 15: and just go out there and help.
- 51:25Speaker 10: What have you kind of admired about like McDonald's defense,
- 51:28Speaker 10: watching it afar and kind of amazing what what they
- 51:31Speaker 10: do and then jumping into it.
- 51:32Speaker 3: How big of a factor is that breaks?
- 51:34Speaker 15: It looks amazing. You know, they get to the quarterback,
- 51:37Speaker 15: you know, they get to create turnovers. You know, they
- 51:39Speaker 15: do all the right things. So you know, I'm excited
- 51:42Speaker 15: to you know, hopefully be a part of it. Go
- 51:45Speaker 15: out there and compete and just try to help this
- 51:47Speaker 15: team win. That's all I wanna do.
- 51:48Speaker 3: If you haven't played it a minute?
- 51:50Speaker 2: Could could you play like the final preseason game next Friday?
- 51:53Speaker 2: Do you think you're getting changed.
- 51:54Speaker 7: Good by that? Uh?
- 51:55Speaker 3: Possibly? I gotta put into work, you know, get practice
- 51:58Speaker 3: reps and maybe for all the things that go.
- 52:02Speaker 9: Through the gina here and I have this opportunity be
- 52:04Speaker 9: and the one that works with defending champions your position
- 52:06Speaker 9: is a position of need for them as like meant
- 52:09Speaker 9: to be in a way, right, Yeah, And.
- 52:10Speaker 3: It was definitely.
- 52:12Speaker 7: Is.
- 52:13Speaker 15: It's been a long journey, you know, and I was
- 52:15Speaker 15: just extremely thankful, you know, it's been a blessing, you know,
- 52:18Speaker 15: from God.
- 52:19Speaker 3: You know, I thank him the most, you know. Uh,
- 52:21Speaker 3: And I'm just thinkingful the opportunity.
- 52:24Speaker 6: You played something in the slot, Is that right?
- 52:25Speaker 3: Or have you mostly been on the outside. I've been
- 52:27Speaker 3: on the outside. I played in the slot too wherever.
- 52:33Speaker 3: All right, thank you everyone.
- 52:37Speaker 2: That was Tremon Diggs yesterday with us after practicing renting.
- 52:41Speaker 2: The last question by Brady Henderson ESPN dot com pertinent
- 52:44Speaker 2: because the Seahawks third cornerback situation is a little bit
- 52:48Speaker 2: of both inside and outside so far the third corner.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Let's go back last year third cornerback. They had three
- 52:55Speaker 2: cornerbacks for two jobs. How Mike McDonald saw two starters
- 52:59Speaker 2: three spots. By the way around three starters for two spots,
- 53:03Speaker 2: Rieke Wolan, Josh Job basically rotated. Wolan played about seventy
- 53:08Speaker 2: percent of the snap so it wasn't starting most games.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Job was. Witherspoon stayed on the field almost exclusively and
- 53:14Speaker 2: when the third cornerback would come in. Witherspoon would move
- 53:16Speaker 2: inside to nickel where he's really good, and we saw
- 53:19Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl him just to dominate the Patriots
- 53:22Speaker 2: with blitzes from the nickel position. This summer without Wolven,
- 53:26Speaker 2: who's now a Philadelphia Eagle in free agency, the Seahawks
- 53:29Speaker 2: letting him go, letting him his contract lapse without giving
- 53:32Speaker 2: him a competitive offer to keep him, they've been The
- 53:35Speaker 2: Seahawks have been going with Neemiah Pritchett. He's a third
- 53:38Speaker 2: year pro, fifth round pick from Auburn a few years ago, unproven,
- 53:41Speaker 2: is barely played because Wooln and Job and Witherspoon have
- 53:44Speaker 2: been here. McDonald tried Josh Joe, Witherspoon and Neemia pritch
- 53:50Speaker 2: It together and when they did, Witherspoon would go inside,
- 53:52Speaker 2: pritch It outside. That was the start of training camp. Well,
- 53:55Speaker 2: obviously McDonald isn't convinced Pritchett's an answer, because then they
- 53:59Speaker 2: looked at terry On Arnold, who's facing eight felonies in
- 54:01Speaker 2: life in prison. Then they looked at and signed Trevon Diggs.
- 54:08Speaker 2: Now Noah Igbinoghany has recently been the nickel with Witherspoon
- 54:12Speaker 2: staying outside with Job as the outside corners. When they've
- 54:16Speaker 2: gone three cornerbacks and practices. Now Diggs comes and when
- 54:21Speaker 2: he can finally get into shape and acclimated to getting
- 54:24Speaker 2: back in pads for the first time in seven months,
- 54:27Speaker 2: will he go inside and keep Witherspoon outside. My hunch
- 54:30Speaker 2: is that he'll go outside, where he's played the majority
- 54:32Speaker 2: of his career. Heard him say that he's played both
- 54:34Speaker 2: inside and outside, but he's played most of his snaps
- 54:36Speaker 2: outside and that's where he became an All Pro with
- 54:39Speaker 2: the Cowboys when he had eleven interceptions to leave the
- 54:42Speaker 2: NFL in twenty twenty one. So my supposition would be
- 54:46Speaker 2: a lot like last year, when Witherspoon and Job would
- 54:50Speaker 2: be on the field at the same time. Excuse me,
- 54:52Speaker 2: Job and woman would be on the field at the
- 54:53Speaker 2: same time. Witherspoon would go inside. If Digs can prove
- 54:57Speaker 2: to be any semblance of what he used to be,
- 55:00Speaker 2: then he'll go outside and put Witherspoon back inside. On
- 55:03Speaker 2: top of all this, Jessman, is the fact that I
- 55:06Speaker 2: have seen more three linebackers from the Seahawks in recent
- 55:09Speaker 2: practices than I've seen in three years what's that. Well,
- 55:14Speaker 2: Tyree Knight, we saw ten tackles last preseason game last weekend.
- 55:18Speaker 2: He was the starter until Drake Thomas took his job.
- 55:21Speaker 2: And basically two linebackers plus Nickymun Warrior is a hybrid
- 55:24Speaker 2: big safety linebacker. That was what McDonald did most of
- 55:27Speaker 2: the time last year in sub packages. If they go
- 55:30Speaker 2: three linebackers, which McDonald said he wants to do more
- 55:32Speaker 2: of this year, that would be Ernest Jones in the middle,
- 55:35Speaker 2: flanked by Drake Thomas and Tyrese Knight. If you've got
- 55:40Speaker 2: three linebackers off ball linebackers on the field at one time,
- 55:42Speaker 2: you've got to take somebody off. You can only play
- 55:44Speaker 2: at eleven, So that means one fewer defensive back. That
- 55:48Speaker 2: could be McDonald's hedge against not trusting his third corner said,
- 55:54Speaker 2: I mean, I like you explaining it, but I would
- 55:58Speaker 2: rather see the Seahawks put nick Emun Worry and Devin
- 56:02Speaker 2: Witherspoon on the field at the same time in a
- 56:04Speaker 2: hybrid nickel and have the ability to have up to
- 56:08Speaker 2: dime and keep Witherspoon and even Worry on the field
- 56:11Speaker 2: with a third cornerback they can trust. That's how McDonald
- 56:14Speaker 2: won a Super Bowl and led the league in points
- 56:16Speaker 2: allowed last year. He had nickel and dime personnel who
- 56:19Speaker 2: could both stop the run, cover and rush the quarterback,
- 56:22Speaker 2: and not many teams have that, and nick Emun Worry
- 56:25Speaker 2: and Devin Witherspoon give him the ability to do that.
- 56:27Speaker 2: Of course, even Worry, we don't even know when he's
- 56:29Speaker 2: gonna get on the field, although these suppositions still expect
- 56:32Speaker 2: him to play in the opener. Him not on the
- 56:35Speaker 2: field has created this concern for the Seahawks. They would
- 56:39Speaker 2: not nearly be as concerned on who their third quarterback
- 56:42Speaker 2: was if nick Emun Worey was on the field playing,
- 56:44Speaker 2: because he could hedge it with three linebackers, or he
- 56:47Speaker 2: could just say he's in nickel like he did last
- 56:49Speaker 2: year by having even Worry essentially being a hybrid linebacker
- 56:54Speaker 2: as a fifth defensive back. But now, because even Worry
- 56:56Speaker 2: is out, who do I have now to put in there? Gignogamy, Pritchett, Arnold, Well,
- 57:03Speaker 2: he's gonna get onto this exemple list. So if it's
- 57:05Speaker 2: not Arnold, let's try Trevon Diggs. You get my point.
- 57:08Speaker 2: They're going through all these iterations because we Emon Worry
- 57:11Speaker 2: is not on the field, and when Emon Warri does
- 57:13Speaker 2: come on the field, well we see more three linebackers
- 57:16Speaker 2: with Emon Worrey coming up as pessentially a fourth linebacker.
- 57:20Speaker 2: That all could be Mike McDonald's counter to the counter
- 57:23Speaker 2: that we know Sean McVay and Kyle shanahan are going
- 57:26Speaker 2: to have for the Seahawks defense from last year to
- 57:29Speaker 2: this year. That that's a little inside ball stuff.
- 57:31Speaker 7: It is in chess constant, Yeah, right about that coach's daughter.
- 57:35Speaker 2: It is chess on top of chess when it comes
- 57:38Speaker 2: to schemes, and Mike McDonald's trying to stay a step ahead.
- 57:41Speaker 2: We'll see how Trevon Diggs figures in all of that.
- 57:44Speaker 2: Four nine, four five one. Your opinion on them adding
- 57:47Speaker 2: Trevon Diggs, do you think they should just cut bait
- 57:50Speaker 2: on the whole Terry on Arnold's situation. They haven't signed
- 57:53Speaker 2: him officially yet, so they aren't mandated to sign him
- 57:57Speaker 2: and pay him yet. Nope. Yet, they aren't in the
- 58:01Speaker 2: business usually of going back on their own word, though
- 58:03Speaker 2: with agents players around the league, that word gets around,
- 58:06Speaker 2: so chances are they're still going to sign him, but
- 58:09Speaker 2: just have him on a layaway deal. Next, your chance
- 58:12Speaker 2: to be a part of the show. There are comments
- 58:14Speaker 2: on the text line at tacomadadge text line four nine
- 58:16Speaker 2: four to five one about Matt Cowkins leading the Seattle
- 58:18Speaker 2: Times leaving the Seattle Times after eleven years. I purposely
- 58:22Speaker 2: haven't commented much other than telling you what his statement was.
- 58:25Speaker 2: One because they're my competitor at the News Tribute, but
- 58:28Speaker 2: also I know Matt personally, hang out with him on
- 58:31Speaker 2: the road. We'll talk about what you thought comments. We
- 58:34Speaker 2: got some comments on that, comments about the Mariners, about
- 58:38Speaker 2: the Seahawks, about the little league team in Tacoma. Your
- 58:42Speaker 2: chance to be a part of the show next. Bring
- 58:43Speaker 2: in your talkbacks just when we'll play them back next
- 58:46Speaker 2: to ninety three point three KGRFM.
- 59:03Speaker 3: Hey wanted to respond to that Matt Calkins news.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Can you reread his reason for leaving again?
- 59:10Speaker 17: I was a bit confused the article that he didn't
- 59:14Speaker 17: get published was from two female.
- 59:18Speaker 2: Athletes, actual female athletes or the perspective of his imagining
- 59:25Speaker 2: of what they would think.
- 59:28Speaker 17: Greg, thanks for telling us about Matt Caulkins resigning. Good
- 59:31Speaker 17: on Matt Caulkins for standing on principle. If the Times wouldn't.
- 59:35Speaker 2: Publish his story about biological.
- 59:40Speaker 17: Men competing as women against women, which is absolutely disgusting
- 59:45Speaker 17: and awareness needs.
- 59:47Speaker 2: To be brought to that.
- 59:48Speaker 17: It's unfair and good on Matt Caulkins.
- 59:50Speaker 2: I'm proud of him.
- 59:54Speaker 5: Those are the first couple we have on that subject.
- 59:56Speaker 2: Well, let me clarify what Matt said. Statement was the
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: impetus was the Times declining to run a column I
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: wrote from the perpective of two female student athletes who
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: were supposed to be competing against biological males. He also
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: said it was one of several pieces of mine that
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: had been spiked, So it wasn't just this. That's just
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: clarifying what Matt was explaining on why he chose.
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: And he did speak to those athletes, because one of
- 1:00:27Speaker 7: the voice texts did say is he imagining it?
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: No, he spoke to them. I don't know that.
- 1:00:34Speaker 5: Oh it was I went to a sub stack and
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: I read it.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Okay, good. He quoted them directly, thank you, thank you.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: That wasn't clear on that myself, so thank you. He
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: wrote it from the perspective, meaning he actually did interview
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: and quoted thank you.
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: Joseh Right, Yes, well, yeah, and I wanted that to
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: be clear as well, because when I went to his article,
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: he talked about who he spoke with, and it was
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: the young woman who it's a girl, I should say,
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: because she's sixteen years old, who cussed out by one
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: of the co owners of the storm.
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: He spoke to that woman directly, the sixteen year old girl.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: I should say, therein lies why that may have been spiked.
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: Never know, but it definitely points to something.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: The Seattle Storm, of course, a constituent in this community
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: that the Seattle Time serves. I will say it is
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: a very very very contentious thing when columnist there was
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: supposed to be a voice of your newspaper, that you've
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: hired to be a voice of your newspaper with opinions
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: is muted because of his opinions, and that is that
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: happens repeatedly. That is cause for alarm. As a journalist,
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: I will say that I'm not going to speak for
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: the Seattle Times, a competitor of mine, but I will
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: say that that is a contentious thing for any journalist.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: But when you say that it was he interviewed the
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: young woman, the girl who was yelled at by the
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: rated by the Seattle Storm co owner, well that as
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: a famous journalist. One says, now you have the rest
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: of the story.
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, no.
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: I would encourage people because if you did just read
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: his post on his social media, there is a link
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: to a sub stack and you could read his.
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: Full story there.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Thank you for that.
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: You're welcome anyway, and let's move on to other subjects
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: be covered.
- 1:02:24Speaker 18: Hey KJR folks, if the presidents of these universities, the
- 1:02:29Speaker 18: athletic directors, and the coaches did not make a spot
- 1:02:34Speaker 18: available to these players in the transfer portal, the whole
- 1:02:38Speaker 18: process and would dry up. Think about that for a minute.
- 1:02:42Speaker 18: Is it the customers or is it the suppliers that
- 1:02:45Speaker 18: are at fault?
- 1:02:47Speaker 8: Do you, alum and booster?
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: He should be fired?
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: So what are we doing in college football?
- 1:02:55Speaker 16: Are they even attending class? Are you even enrolled in
- 1:02:58Speaker 16: the school. This is actually a minor league or amateur
- 1:03:05Speaker 16: football if you want to put it that way, you know, fine,
- 1:03:09Speaker 16: But if it's still part of the collegiate game, you
- 1:03:13Speaker 16: already declared for the draft, you're already out of school. GTFO, guys,
- 1:03:18Speaker 16: you're taking away opportunities from kids.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: You suck.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: I do appreciate the self edit when they come in
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: like that.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: It went off the roads at the end. But class,
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: what are classes? Since one has class been a concerned
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: of this.
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: The majority of them are only online. They do not
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: show up. They're you know, celebrities on campus. I get
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: that part of it.
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: But they have a busy schedule. They have the student job,
- 1:03:42Speaker 7: and they have what is the majority of their job,
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: which is playing a sport.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: Let me say again that ninety percent of college athletes,
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: and if you go to different levels Division two to
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: three ANDAI, maybe ninety eight percent of college athletes are
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: there to get a degree, are there to go to class,
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: and many, many, many millions of student athletes have used
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: sports to get a degree as their vehicle, their platform
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: to then earn a college degree that maybe they otherwise
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: would not have gotten without sports in one of them. Absolutely,
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: and that those are not the people that they're getting
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: all the money and thus all the attention and all
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: the legal introjections and all the court cases and all
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: of this. That's not them. Yet they're the ones that
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: suffer when there's spots in their teams get cut because
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: that's fewer entries into the college landscape and a chance
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: to get a college degree. About the point about well,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: the college presidents and athletic directors should just deny these
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: people the opportunities in the transfer portal. Then they're going
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: to get sued because the Supreme Court has already ruled that.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: First of all the at obandon case, then the House
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: settlement that players get paid, and the transfer portal. The
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: NCAA presidents have already decided they're not going to challenge
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: at all for fear of getting sued. So if the
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: current rules in place are that it's legal to get
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: paid from the school itself in revenue sharing and from
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: nil collectives outside of the school, and also if it's
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: legal to transfer at will in these portal periods, now,
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: if a college president says no to that, he's going
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: to get sued because it's against the law. That's why
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: the college presidents have been asking for this Hail Mary
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: from Congress to step in and legislate all of this.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: And we've already talked about that and why that hasn't
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: happened yet. It's complicated, it's nuanced, but it ain't good.
- 1:05:33Speaker 7: No, it is not, and I don't see it getting better,
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: especially with this development, Are you kidding me?
- 1:05:39Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: And it's not as long as.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: The money keeps flowing and as long as the Halves
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: keep getting more, and that's what it's running to that
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: the Halves are going to eventually break off from the
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: have nots. Washington is in a peculiar spot. Washington State
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: has already been left behind, but Washington is in a
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: peculiar spot. They joined the Big Ten to stay with
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: the Halves, right yet they have half revenue of the
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: rest of the Big Ten. That was the condition for joining.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Until the end of this decade, they only get half
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: as much money from the media rights deals in the
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: revenue to the Big Ten mix as Michigan, Ohio State,
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: and the rest. Oregon and Washington said that okay, they'll settle.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: That Oregon has enough of its own internal revenues and
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: sources that they're okay. Washington, on the other hand, is
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: in a different spot. They are in a very prestigious
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: academic situation. They are a very fine public institution, one
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: of the best in the country. Yet they want to
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: be with the halves in college football and basketball. The
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Halves are about to split off from the have nots
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: and they're going to create their own super league, Big
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Ten and SEC with their own rules. And I've had people,
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: I have people on campuses tell me that they're going
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: to eventually what's going to happen. And I've mentioned this
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: college big time college football and basketball programs are going
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: to split off from the universities and become their own
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: private LLCs off campus, and they're going to lease the
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: colors and the stadiums in the arenas. They're going to
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: become private companies with their own us that they don't
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: have to be subject to Title nine, they don't have
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: to be subject to federal funding. Now if we study
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: subject to anything but their own rules, and that would
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: lead to players being employees, and if they're employees, that
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: would lead to unionizing. If that's unionizing, that could lead
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: to players getting fired. And college degrees are academics aren't
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: even in the equation in that scenario, and that the
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: Huskies would have a headquarters off of the campus, and
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: they would pay the University of Washington to play in
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: Husky Stadium, they would pay licensing fees to pay the
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: University of Washington to use their colors and their brand.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: People are convinced in psychollege athletic this is where it's headed. Man,
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: how are you going to fund that as an alum.
- 1:07:44Speaker 7: Are you going to reconcile that they're already scrapping and
- 1:07:46Speaker 7: scraping to find alums all over the place who do it?
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: I mean, and you know, maybe the Texas schools with
- 1:07:52Speaker 7: their oil money are the only ones that don't have
- 1:07:54Speaker 7: to do that, because there are some tycoons that already
- 1:07:57Speaker 7: own those athletic programs literally because they pay.
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: All of the nil money. Right, But what about everyone else?
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: I could see a husky donor who says, you know what,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: I'm gonna give to ben Royal Hall, or I'm gonna
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: give to the Seattle Art Museum, or I'm gonna give
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: to the Fred Hudg Cancer Center, or I'm gonna give
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: to Children's Hospital. Something a lot more worthwhile than sinking
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: money into a quarterback who may leave the next year. Eventually,
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: those are those guys and gals are gonna tap out.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: You're gonna have hit them up so many times for
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: nil donations, for guys that don't even stay beyond a year,
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: that they're gonna finally check outs. I'm done. I'm gonna
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: spend my money elsewhere. My investment goes somewhere.
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: It's been broken for a very long time.
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: But before we exit, let's get into another subject that
- 1:08:45Speaker 7: we covered and thank you for this one.
- 1:08:48Speaker 14: Hey Mariners fans just want to apologize. I was in
- 1:08:51Speaker 14: Milwaukee on Tuesday for that twenty two to zero loss.
- 1:08:55Speaker 14: If the Mariners won't take accountability for that, I will,
- 1:08:58Speaker 14: that's on me.
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: That's my bad.
- 1:09:00Speaker 8: Getting to watch that.
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: In person was horrible.
- 1:09:02Speaker 8: Just just want to say sorry, tough loss. Huh, tough loss.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: We appreciate your candor we can blame him.
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Twenty two nothing. He's the skid. He and the third number,
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: the third string hitting coach. Coach.
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: Yeah, that's coming from Kyle in the two five three.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: By the way, thanks Kyle two oh six. I think
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: to coming out text on four nine four five. My
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: cousin Mark is the first base coach for the Soundby
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: Little League team in Tacoma, and his son Tyler is
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: the third baseman. Let's go baby with four exclamation points.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: That's off. They won yesterday in the first game of
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: the Little League World Series. Go Mariners. Since all MLB
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: upon it two three to six, Oh, go Mariners. Since
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: all MLB opponents believe we can't hit lefty pitchers, that's
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: what we face by the playoffs, and the Mariners will
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: be in the playoffs. The Mariners are going to be
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: the best hitting team versus lefties. We can already see it.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: Go Mariners.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: Wow, that's some wow, really good more.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: He's more positive than you are.
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: I know you would help Susie bleeping sunshine over here.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, right truth three six oh, Mariners lit
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: up that left handed picture maze yesterday. Mariners are heating up.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: It's all about peaking at the right time after one game.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: That's an interesting way to look at it. Okay, I
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: hope we hope Seattle hope you're correct.
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: Yeah, all right. Ian is lurking around here, lurking.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: The mayor Maple Valley. He's going to tell us next
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: what he's got on his show. And I think he
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: has something to say about Matt Hawkins leaving the Seattle time.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: Does I think we might talk a little bit about
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: that next. Hi, welcome back. I'm live and now Justman's
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: back in Seattle ninety three point three kJ R FM.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: The Seahawks are getting here today for a team joint
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: practice against the Titans tomorrow Tennessee's practice field and facility.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: I'll be broadcasting live from there tomorrow. The only Seattle
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: radio TV entity that I know of is gonna that's
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: going to be there tomorrow at Titans practice field facility
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: right outside of downtown, just a couple of miles from
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: where they'll play.
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: That's true, that's true.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 1:11:26Speaker 6: I don't care about that. Screw the joint practice.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: Where are you going tonight? I mean you're in Broadway?
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: Where are you going tonight?
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: We just got a tip from the text line thank
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: you two O six to recommended an Indian place. My
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: wife is with me on this trip, so we're not
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: just doing barbecue. She's a vegetarian, longtown for that, all right,
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: But we we we took a walk on Broadway last night.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: We were just in you know, T shirt and tennis
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: shoestrn out. But she's she's enticed to go back out
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: tonight for sure. I like this. I like the stage.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: I like how down HOMEI the stage is right on Broadway. Yep.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Three floors in every bar anyway, including the States. So
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: we will probably go there among other places.
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: But all right, well, yeah, I've I've been there twice.
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: I've enjoyed it once because the second time I went
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: there was when Fits got sick and so I was
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: going cracking and I imber it was their second game, Yeah,
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: their second game. Yeah, their first road trip.
- 1:12:28Speaker 8: But I went.
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: I wandered down to the edge of Broadway, right next
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: to the arena, looked down, looked down there and said, man,
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: I nope, I better not because I've got I've got
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: I've got five hockey games and a Seahawk game in
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: Pittsburgh squeezed in between that I had to cover. And
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: so I went and actually, actually Nationwide Arena, Bridge On Arena, sorry,
- 1:12:54Speaker 6: Bridge Down Arena has like an outdoor bar sort of
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: it's attached to the arena. I walked, Yeah, and I
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: walked by there. It was fairly empty. I sat at
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: the bar and met the martender was an awesome dude
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: and kind of told them what was going on, and
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: it was it was cool, but it was like, yeah,
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: I I was about it. So the first time we
- 1:13:13Speaker 6: went there was one of the r was at twenty seventeen.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the year that I think that was
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: the year the Black Lives Matter protest was. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: they met. I was in the Seahawks team hotel lobby,
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: waiting all day for them to come out and release
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: a statement on what they were going to do the
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: next day. There was some thought they wouldn't even take
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: the field.
- 1:13:31Speaker 8: That was we ended up.
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: Yeah, we ended up doing a story that night in
- 1:13:35Speaker 6: the news. And because that was I had an assistant
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: coach at the time tell me that that was on
- 1:13:40Speaker 6: the table, yes, and I remember saying, and I remember
- 1:13:44Speaker 6: one of the things that came out I remember it
- 1:13:45Speaker 6: was too was you know they the Titans had basically
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: reached out to the Seahawks for their guidance on what
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: to do.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: Because that's exactly what happened.
- 1:13:58Speaker 6: Yeah, because of the strong how do I say that,
- 1:14:01Speaker 6: the leadership, the personnel, I mean the Shermans of the world,
- 1:14:04Speaker 6: the Bennetts of the world, guys like that, and they
- 1:14:05Speaker 6: were looking up to them, they said, what are you
- 1:14:07Speaker 6: guys going to do? And they they came to the
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: conclusion that they would all both be inside for the
- 1:14:11Speaker 6: anthem that day and come out after the anthem. And
- 1:14:14Speaker 6: I remember on the field, we were doing a pregame
- 1:14:16Speaker 6: show and I had an assistant coach, another assistant coach
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: tell me says, we didn't do one football thing last
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: night and yesterday in the hotel, like normally that's your
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: last day of prepp and all that. And he says,
- 1:14:27Speaker 6: we didn't do one thing that had to do with football.
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: It was all about everything else. And I said, good
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: or bad. He goes, that's a peak call. I could
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: tell the coach didn't agree with it because he didn't
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: feel like they were prepared like they should have been.
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: And they got beaten that game. But sometimes things are
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: bigger than that and a way they went. But yeah,
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: that was a that was a wild It was a
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: wild day.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: I think that was.
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: I don't think it was Black Lives.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: Was it Black Lives?
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: No?
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: Because that was after George. It was this was the
- 1:14:54Speaker 6: president Trump was the president. Is the SOB term or whatever.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: It is football players or sob ye for taking knees? Yes, yes, ye, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: That was September twenty twenty four, twenty seventeen. The Seahawks
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: fell behind thirty to fourteen in that game, brutal.
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: And they should have just run those guys out of
- 1:15:10Speaker 6: the building that day, right like, and they just were not.
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: They weren't ready to play football. And that's me again.
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: They're progative and not for us to debate, but it was.
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: I remember how strange that day was because we that
- 1:15:21Speaker 6: that night before and that day of the game. It
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: was it was what how different this team is in
- 1:15:27Speaker 6: that team?
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:15:29Speaker 18: Sure?
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: I I want to know what you're doing tonight.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: That's my that was my key.
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: I want to know what you're doing tonight.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: So good, I'm glad. I'm glad. Your wife's so that's awesome,
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: have funny, thank you you saw Matt Hawkins. I saw that.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: We're going to talk about that.
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: We're going to touch in on that. I've talked to
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: Matt quite a bit out at Seahawks the last couple
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: of weeks and knew this was maybe something he was
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: thinking about. Also had he had told me and I
- 1:15:50Speaker 6: think a lot of others about the muting that had
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: taken place, not just this one time, but a number
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: of times. And so honestly, I think it's TH's terrifying
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: in a sense. That's what newspapers used to be and
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: they're not anymore.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: And it's not good. No, if you hire a calumnists
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: to be a voice of your paper, it's I've been
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: in the journalism print journalism business for twenty five years.
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: Yep, yep, we're going to talk to John Canzono of
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: twelve twenty about just that he left The Oregonian for
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: some you know, some of the same reasons. Uh started
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: his own thing. So we'll get to that. We got
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: hey today and guess who's here. Jess is here? Hey, No,
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: unofficial star of the weekend. Unofficial star of the weekend
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: Brandon Funds at at two o'clock today. People, here we go,
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: Here we go, four nine, four to five on your questions.
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: So we'll get to that too.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: Oh, their text line is starting right now. It will
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: open up for that exactly. Let's go and he'll be
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: on with jess Man the next three hours, just like
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: gold times. Thanks for letting me borrow her for the mornings.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: I appreciate that. Again, that's not my call.
- 1:16:53Speaker 6: I'm not that nice, you know what.
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: I like to call it sharing across oliver Osha sure
- 1:17:00Speaker 7: that whatever you want to call You're with you guys

- 1:17:05Speaker 2: She does a great job some obviously pro Thank you
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: very much, all of you. Thanks for listening. Thanks for
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: the text tomorrow when you hear from me next I
