- 1:15It is the next installment I suppose you would say,
- 1:20of my Daily Gospel Reflections. You know, I write a
- 1:26reflection essentially, it's like a devotional on the Mass readings
- 1:31for every day of the year. I've been doing this

- 1:36to six months ahead of time so you can have
- 1:39a copy in your hands when it's time. And mostly
- 1:43I focus on the Gospel, but oftentimes I will use
- 1:46the first Reading or the Psalm, or you know, whatever
- 1:51moves me to write on that day. Oftentimes it's on
- 1:55theological doctrinal topics. Sometimes it's church history or apologetics. Occasionally
- 2:04I show how church teaching disproves Protestant teaching or is
- 2:10in opposition to politics and you know, certain political ideologies
- 2:15such as that. But for the most part, it is
- 2:18what I call a daily Catholic devotional reflections on the
- 2:22daily Mass readings. And this one is available for sale

- 5:20to support my work. But anyway, the book's out now,
- 5:23please say a prayer for me it's successful. I'd love
- 5:26for millions of people to read these gospel reflections, convert
- 5:31to Catholicism, remain Catholic, have their faith strength, and be
- 5:35able to tell politicians why they're wrong to support abortion.
- 5:40I mean, you know, it's the Uncensored Catholic.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I get in.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I take on the hard topics. It's perfectly clean. There's
- 5:46no profanity or anything in it, just like there's not
- 5:49in this show, you know, but uncensored meaning I don't
- 5:53bite my tongue, I don't hold back. I'll criticize, you know,
- 5:58priests and bishops and such if they're in the wrong.
- 6:01I criticize politicians and I try to give you very
- 6:06solid Orthodox Catholic teaching, so please buy my book if
- 6:13you would like.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Picking up where we left off, the questioner asks the
- 6:18priests and the classic work radio replies, according to Catholic doctrine,
- 6:22the sacrament of baptism destroys original sin. Would you say
- 6:26that Mary did not need baptism? And they say Mary
- 6:29did not need baptism in so far that that sacrament
- 6:32was instituted for the destruction of original sin. She received
- 6:37that sacrament in order to participate in its other effects,
- 6:42and chiefly in order to receive the Christian character which
- 6:46that sacrament presses upon the soul. And the person says,
- 6:50if Mary was sinless, she could not have needed redemption.
- 6:53Yet is not Christ the redeemer of very child of Adam?
- 6:56And this is one of those things Protestants to throw
- 6:59at you every now and then, that Mary couldn't have
- 7:01been sinless, because if so, that would negate the entire
- 7:05need for Jesus. And it's so ridiculous what the priests
- 7:10say here, in so far as the sin of Adam
- 7:12involved the sin of the whole of human race in condemnation,
- 7:16Mary needed redeeming. But there are two ways of redeeming.
- 7:19God could allow one to be born in sin and
- 7:21then purify the soul by subsequent application of merits of Christ.
- 7:26Or he could, by an anticipation of the merits of Christ,
- 7:29exempt a soul from any actual contraction of original sin.
- 7:33He thus exempted Mary from any actual inheritance of the sin,
- 7:37and she owes her exemption to the anticipated merits of Christ.
- 7:41In other words, she was redeemed by Christ by prevention
- 7:45rather than by subsequent purification. The person asks is there
- 7:49any evidence in scripture that Mary was indeed never actually
- 7:52subject to original sin? And they say yes. Genesis three fifteen,
- 7:56God said to Satan, I will put in between enmities
- 7:59between thee and the woman. Thou shalt lie in wait
- 8:03for her. Heal the radical in between enmity between Satan
- 8:07and that of the Eve. Let me try that one
- 8:11more time, the radical enmity between Satan and that second Eve.
- 8:17The Mother of Christ forbids her of having been under
- 8:20the dominion of Satan, as she would have had been
- 8:23if she had ever contracted original sin. In actual fact.
- 8:27In Luke one twenty eight we read how the angels
- 8:29sent by God to salute Mary with the words hell
- 8:31full of grace. Grace excludes sin, and had there been
- 8:34any sin at all in Mary, she could not have
- 8:36been declared to have been filled with grace. The Protestant
- 8:40version translates the phrase as thou hast been highly favored,
- 8:44but the Greek certainly implies completely filled with holiness. However,
- 8:49complaints that our doctrine exempts Mary from the contracting of
- 8:52original sin are becoming more and more rare in a
- 8:55world which is tending to deny sin altogether, and which
- 8:58wishes to exempt everybody from it. Person says Saint Paul
- 9:02says that one died for all, and therefore all were dead,
- 9:06and they answered. Such texts must be interpreted in the
- 9:08light of other passages where God reveals that Mary was
- 9:11never under the dominion of Satan. Mary is, including these
- 9:14words of Saint Paul, jured judicially in so far as
- 9:18she was born of Adam. But she was not allowed
- 9:20to be born in sin, but to be afterwards redeemed.
- 9:24She was redeemed by prevention. Saint John knew the Mother.
- 9:28The person says, Saint John knew the Mother of Christ
- 9:30better than the others. Yet he does not mention her
- 9:32Immaculate conception, and they say Revelations twelve, he shows clearly
- 9:36his knowledge of the deadly opposition between Mary and Satan
- 9:40his gospel. He wrote, to supplement the synoptic accounts, and
- 9:43sufficient detail had been given concerning Mary herself by Saint
- 9:47Luke a mention, omission, omission, that's right, one more time,
- 9:54to omit im having trouble pronounce it that to omit
- 9:57a fact in a given book is not proof that
- 10:00the writer did not know of it, and above all
- 10:03it does not fall with the scope of his work
- 10:06and the person. We'll give one more question, says did
- 10:09the early church know anything of this doctrine? And they answered.
- 10:13Saint Augustine the fourth century wrote, when it is a
- 10:16matter of sin, we must accept that the Holy Virgin,
- 10:19concerning whom I have no question raised, owing to the
- 10:22honor due to our Lord, I will have no question raise,
- 10:25owing to the honor due to the Lord. Saint Ephraim,
- 10:28also in the fourth century, taught very clearly the immaculate
- 10:31conception of Mary, likening her to Eve before the Fall.
- 10:34The Oriental churches celebrated the feast of the Emaculate Conception
- 10:38as early as the seventh century. When Pope Pious the
- 10:41Ninth defined the Catholic doctrine in eighteen fifty four, he
- 10:44gave not a new truth to be ad to Christian teaching,
- 10:47but merely to find that this doctrine was part of
- 10:50Christian teaching from the very beginning, and that it is
- 10:53to be believed by all as part of Christian revelation.
- 10:57All right, Oh, there'll be several more questions next week
- 11:01on the emmatical conception and Marian doctrine, so we'll hold
- 11:05off on that, and we will finish up follow Spiragos
- 11:10chapter on the Eucharist. And today we are going to
- 11:14discuss behavior after receiving holy communion. After receiving holy communion,
- 11:20we should make our thanksgiving and proper our profer pro
- 11:24f f e er profer our petitions to Almighty God,
- 11:29praying for the Pope, for the authorities secular an ecclesiastical,
- 11:33for our relatives, friends and benefactors.
- 11:35Speaker 2: And for the holy souls in purgatory.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Our thanksgiving ought to last at least a quarter of
- 11:41an hour. Priests recite the Benedictine after Mass. To leave
- 11:45the church after communion without thanksgiving would be a very
- 11:47rude act. How ill mannered. Would he be thought, who,
- 11:52when invited to the table of one so far above
- 11:55him in rank, did not so much as thank his
- 11:57host to do so as to be like judas who
- 11:59have receiving communion immediately went out. Saint Philip Neary once
- 12:04sent two accolytes with burning tapers to accompany a person
- 12:07whom he observed thus hurrying from church. We ought to
- 12:11present our petitions to God after communion. Of course, that's ideal.
- 12:14I mean, you may have an emergency and have to leave.
- 12:16You may have somebody who left waiting the car. You
- 12:19may have a sick relative you got to get to.
- 12:20You may have to go to work immediately after Mass.
- 12:24You know, Church understands that. But in ideally we should
- 12:29try to stay and pray and meditate for a good
- 12:31fifteen minutes after Mass. We ought to also present our
- 12:36petitions to God after communion. Queen Esther pleaded with King
- 12:40Azurius on behalf of the Jewish people after the banquet,
- 12:44for she knew that this was the most favorable moment
- 12:47to make her request, and it was granted her. That's
- 12:49the Book of Esther, chapter seven. There is no better
- 12:53time for us to hold converse with God than when
- 12:55He is present with us as our guest. Our prayers
- 12:58have far more weight with God African Union than at
- 13:00any other time, because they are sanctified by the presence
- 13:03of our Lord. We have not Him always with us.
- 13:07That's a mark I guess fourteen seven. But anyway, how
- 13:13much those lose, exclaimed Saint Alfonsis who neglect to implore
- 13:17graces after receiving holy communion. No food should be taken
- 13:21until at least a quarter of an hour after receiving communion,
- 13:25when the species of bread are consumed. It is not
- 13:27well to indulge in worldly amusements on the day of communion,
- 13:32for by doing so we lose the graces we have received.
- 13:36We shall do better if we go to a church
- 13:38and thus return the visit our Lord is graciually, graciously
- 13:42vouchsafed to pay us and his.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Sip of water. My tongue is getting tied off now.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Spiritual commune consists in awakening within the heart a lively
- 13:54desire to receive communion. To make a spiritual communion is
- 13:58a matter of no difficulty. It is enough to recollect
- 14:01one's self for a few minutes, to place oneself in
- 14:04spirit before the tabernac on, say Lord Jesus, come, I
- 14:07beseech THEE into my heart. We ought to make a
- 14:10spiritual communion during Mass, more particularly at the communion of
- 14:15the priests, and also when we pay a visit to
- 14:17the blessed sacrament. We may even communicate spiritually every hour
- 14:22of the day. The oftener the better, for there is
- 14:25no need to fast beforehand, nor to obtain permission from
- 14:28our Confessor. Spiritual communion is the means of enriching the
- 14:31soul with many and precious graces. Actual communion is compared
- 14:36to a gold is compared to a golden spiritual commune
- 14:41to a silver vessel. Our Lord, when on earth, did
- 14:44not heal those only to whom he was sent in person,
- 14:47but those also who were absent and who ardently desired
- 14:51his presence. Remember how he acted in regard to the
- 14:54centurion servant. He does the same now as he did then.
- 14:58The Council Trent says, those who eat and desire that
- 15:01heavenly bred are by a lively faith, which worketh by
- 15:04charity made sensible. The fruit and usefulness thereof spiritual communion
- 15:09is the best preparation for a sacramental communion. Our Lord
- 15:13did not come to earth until his advent was ardently desired.
- 15:17In like manner, he is reluctant to visit the soul
- 15:19that does not earnestly long to receive him. So that
- 15:23actually wraps up our chapter on the Eucharist, and we'll
- 15:27get into the sacram pennance next week. But it's interesting.
- 15:32I think these days we mainly think of the act
- 15:35of spiritual communion, the prayer for spiritual communion as what
- 15:39we do when we can't go to Mass and receive
- 15:41the Eucharist. But other Spiago says we should pray it
- 15:44in the Mass before we receive the Euchrast, and we
- 15:47could even pray it every single hour of the day. Well, anyway,
- 15:51y'all have a great week. I'll talk to you next time.
- 15:54Please remember to buy my books, recommend my books, share
- 15:59my podcast to help me grow the audience. And I
- 16:03say prayers for y'all every day. Everybody listen to my podcast,
- 16:06read my books, gets my newsletter.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I pray for y'all.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I hope you all pray for me, and I hope you.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Get a lot out of it.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I hope you if you get the book or sign
- 16:18up for my Daily Gospel Reflections through the subset newsletter.
- 16:21It really enriches your life and your faith. And you know,
- 16:24that's what I pray. I'm praying it is just you
- 16:31know that God will use me as an instrument of
- 16:33his will. That's the ultimate prayer. Also, need to make
- 16:36a living, you know, but God knows that too, and
- 16:40that's one of the ways He gives me my daily bread.
- 16:43When people buy my books, that buys my daily bread.
- 16:46So remember you're contributing that and helping me to keep
- 16:50doing this if you buy my books and share my
- 16:52podcast and you know, subscribe to the newsletter and all that.
- 16:57Speaker 2: So have a good one y'all. I'll talk to you
- 16:59next week.
