- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we're talking about surroundings and are you
- 0:35comfortable in your surroundings?
- 0:37Now the chicken coop, let's take a second here.
- 0:41I know, I know some people have said to me that I am extravagant
- 0:46with my chickens. Now I have very specific take on
- 0:49this because I think their surroundings makes.
- 0:52Like you know, a huge difference.
- 0:54Because I know that it does for me.
- 0:56If I'm in a place that doesn't make me feel good, If I'm in a
- 0:59place that makes me feel constricted and and just
- 1:05absolutely, I think the word just yucky, that's probably the
- 1:09best word I can use for this. If the place makes me feel
- 1:12yucky, I'm not going to want to be the best me I can be.
- 1:16So when I started off with my chickens again.
- 1:20After, you know the incident when I was a child, and for
- 1:27those of you who are new, don't know that sidestep 2 seconds.
- 1:31When I was a kid, we had chickens and I went to school
- 1:34one day. I was probably like six or seven
- 1:35years old and they were all killed by the neighbor's dog.
- 1:39And then my mother would not really let me have them again
- 1:42because she said that they'll just keep happening and she
- 1:44can't handle it. And she they They never even
- 1:46made an attempt to figure out how to not have it happen.
- 1:49Which? Really frustrated me, but
- 1:52actually it's probably one of the reasons I'm the coach that I
- 1:54am today and the person I am today.
- 1:56So Needless to say, back to this.
- 1:58So when I started this off and I was like, OK, I want chickens
- 2:02again. The very first thing that I
- 2:04asked myself is how do I want my chickens to feel every day?
- 2:07Now, I know that may seem like a stupid thing, but if I've got
- 2:10dog people out here listening, you all know how you want your
- 2:12dog to feel every day. If you've got a dog Walker or
- 2:15you take them to doggy daycare, or you work out of your house
- 2:18and you take time. Like I work out of my house.
- 2:21So my dogs are with me all the time and I have my dog walk with
- 2:25me all the time and I know I have this whole thing in my head
- 2:30about how I want my dog to feel every day.
- 2:32I want them to feel happy. So when you start thinking about
- 2:35how you pour into certain things, our animals and I start
- 2:40like no chicken coop, how do I want them to feel every day?
- 2:43If I'm going to eat their eggs, I want them to feel happy here.
- 2:46And I want them to feel filled with love.
- 2:49I want them to know I care for them.
- 2:51I don't want them to run when I call them.
- 2:53I want them to come to me. So the scoop is designed for
- 2:56them to feel good. And our surroundings are
- 2:59supposed to lift us up. Our surroundings are supposed to
- 3:03make us feel. Great.
- 3:05Now, they don't have to be fancy, they don't have to be
- 3:07expensive. But they do have to make you
- 3:10feel good. And there are a bazillion ways
- 3:13to create this. If you've never been on
- 3:15Pinterest, go ahead and Google. Great spaces with low budgets.
- 3:20It's not about the money, my friends.
- 3:22It's about how you intend to feel in the space and starting
- 3:27off that way. It does not have to feel like
- 3:30it's expensive. When we were building out our
- 3:33farm, we were in a rental that was very small and we stayed in
- 3:37it. We thought it was going to be
- 3:38for a year, but we ended up staying there six years, almost
- 3:42seven years, because we had to find the right front, the
- 3:45property, We had to build the house, we had to design the
- 3:48house. It was a complicated process and
- 3:50it was not fancy by any stretch of the means, and it wasn't bad
- 3:56because of how we made it feel. How we did certain things, you
- 4:00know, I can even remember moving when we moved in, they had this
- 4:03weird door that blocked off the living room from the kitchen on
- 4:08the left, but there was a like a partial wall and then there was
- 4:11a wide opening like cut out. To the dining room, which
- 4:15connected to the kitchen. And this stupid door was like,
- 4:18right in the way. And I said to my husband, that
- 4:20just makes this place feel so clogged.
- 4:23That was the word I kept coming up with.
- 4:24It's clogged. And he's like, want me to take
- 4:26it off the hinges? I'm like, yes, take it off the
- 4:29hinges. And we stored it.
- 4:30And it made it feel so much better because it wasn't like a
- 4:33block. And sometimes it takes taking
- 4:36the door off the hinges. Sometimes it takes taking it off
- 4:39the hinges in your mind where you say, OK, I'm just going to
- 4:41move that. I'm just going to take it away.
- 4:44But your surroundings matter. They matter to the chickens.
- 4:47I'll tell you, I don't have to force my chickens to go to bed
- 4:50at night. They go.
- 4:52I have neighbors who are chasing them all around, trying to force
- 4:55them in. One neighbor uses a hose to try
- 4:57to get them in, which just pisses me off every time I hear
- 4:59about it and see it. But I'll tell you what, I don't
- 5:03have to do that. You know why?
- 5:04Because they like where they go. And yes, my chickens are
- 5:07spoiled. And I know I did that on purpose
- 5:10and partly, maybe completely clear.
- 5:12Did I do it for myself? Yes, I did do it for myself
- 5:15because I am a Gold Star girl. I have no problem admitting it,
- 5:18and I wanted a Gold Star for the quality of the coop I gave them.
- 5:21So what? Big freaking deal.
- 5:23That's me. Do that for yourself.
- 5:26Whatever you need to do, do it for yourself.
- 5:29And it doesn't mean you have to get new stuff.
- 5:31It means you just have to make those surroundings feel the best
- 5:34you possibly can, because that's what you thrive in.
- 5:37When you're put in the right dirt, you grow.
- 5:40All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day.
- 5:42Clean up those surroundings and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:45Bye.
