- 0:00Aloha. Thursday morning. South shore surf is still up through early evening, then it backs off — if you're chasing that swell, the window is narrowing.
- 1:42Expect steady trade winds across the islands and typical windward showers inland and on the windward side. Leeward coasts stay dry and sunny — so if you're heading to the dry side, the day looks solid for beach time.
- 1:52South shore is holding moderate at 4.9 feet through 6 PM when the High Surf Advisory lifts. Oʻahu's north shore is also moderate — watch for shore break. Maui's at 3.7 feet and comfortable for swimming. Big Island's calm at 1.5 feet, and Kauaʻi is moderate at 5 feet. If you're a snorkeler or beginner swimmer, Maui and the Big Island are your easiest picks right now.
- 2:11Over at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island, Kīpukapuaulu Trail and Lava Tube Bridge are closed due to tree hazards and bridge work. Stick to the main roads and check signage when you arrive.
- 2:21Our new piece on Hawaiʻi cooking classes just went up — a practical guide to what's on offer across the islands, what you'll actually learn, prices, and how to book without overpaying. If you're traveling with a toddler or baby, we also posted an honest breakdown of what changes when you bring young kids: flights, car seats, beach picks, resort versus condo trade-offs, and what to skip. Both pieces are on the site if either speaks to your trip.
- 2:43Wednesday the north shore swell peaks, then eases. By Friday, east-facing shores build to seasonal average. The next pulse of south-southwest swell arrives late Sunday and peaks early next week.
- 2:53If you're a beach reader, our north-shore guide breaks down which spots are safer when it's like this. Catch you tomorrow morning.
