Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Here we go. Here's the quick little intro. So Marty
- 0:23Speaker 1: Ray of the Marty Ray Project. As we mentioned as
- 0:26Speaker 1: our special guest, He's a man who is described by
- 0:29Speaker 1: IMDb the funniest and scariest guy in any room growing
- 0:33Speaker 1: up and still is a man who has more hats
- 0:36Speaker 1: than the lids in a New York City thrift store combined.
- 0:39Speaker 1: A man who rocks a cover better than a duvet
- 0:42Speaker 1: cover sheet and a luxurious hotel. A man who is
- 0:45Speaker 1: not only all about that beard, but all about debt,
- 0:48Speaker 1: Jesus and the opportunity and gift he has been given.
- 0:50Speaker 1: A man who is an artist, an actor, a director,
- 0:53Speaker 1: a podcaster, you name it. He's done it and can
- 0:56Speaker 1: do it all. He might even be a doctor. And
- 0:59Speaker 1: we don't even and is the one the only Marty?
- 1:07Speaker 2: What's up?
- 1:09Speaker 1: How's it going right?
- 1:11Speaker 2: Just to ride that? Or was that on my No?
- 1:16Speaker 1: That that was credit to me? Just the one part
- 1:19Speaker 1: was im IV.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Fantastic.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I'm gonna add all that other stuff to the dim
- 1:24Speaker 3: DV now, oh you should.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And if you ever need a hype man, And I
- 1:27Speaker 1: happened to be able to travel anywhere near you in
- 1:30Speaker 1: the next six months. Then I got you you can
- 1:33Speaker 1: pull up.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Well, I'm gonna need you to get to Nashville as
- 1:36Speaker 3: quick as possible.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'm on it. And they haven't. They haven't shut down
- 1:41Speaker 1: commercial flights. I heard they're really cheap this time of
- 1:44Speaker 1: the year, so we'll, we'll, we could probably make that happen.
- 1:46Speaker 2: At this time of the virus. They're really cheap.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Somebody I was looking at was trying to get from
- 1:52Speaker 1: Florida to Washington and was ninety five dollars round trip.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, you probably should go, and he's.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Like, who was that? Who was that flight with?
- 2:02Speaker 1: I didn't ask, but I could find out for you.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Probably.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it would have been South Florida, So I don't
- 2:11Speaker 1: and I don't know. There's a lot of flights that
- 2:12Speaker 1: come into Florida. Sure, I highly recommend it because there's
- 2:14Speaker 1: a lot of craziness with spring breakers going down down there.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I told them just to kind of hunker downstall. But yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 1: So first off, thank you very much for taking.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Should I have this like that? Wow?
- 2:25Speaker 1: That makes the beard pop even more.
- 2:28Speaker 4: That's good beard.
- 2:29Speaker 3: It's awkward because when I when I look in that
- 2:31Speaker 3: myself and the thing and I try to check, move
- 2:34Speaker 3: the phone like it should be.
- 2:35Speaker 2: It's awkward. Okay, there we go. It's not.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It's not awkward for us, if that makes it feel
- 2:40Speaker 1: any better.
- 2:41Speaker 2: So it looks good.
- 2:43Speaker 1: You look good, So quick, little We got a couple
- 2:45Speaker 1: of questions for you. So one thing that you probably
- 2:48Speaker 1: hear a lot, but we wanted to just kind of
- 2:50Speaker 1: ask you as well, like what got you into music?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Was it something you did as a kid and you
- 2:53Speaker 1: were like, damn, I guess I had the music in me.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Or was it something that you kind of really struggled
- 2:59Speaker 1: with and you had to works like a little bit
- 3:01Speaker 1: extra hard to you know, become the music genius that
- 3:04Speaker 1: you are today.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Well, I don't know about no genius. That's that's how
- 3:08Speaker 2: I praise.
- 3:08Speaker 1: But hey, that's that's my that's that's my personal opinion.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Take it as it is.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Well, I so appreciate that, man, honor. I'm honored to
- 3:15Speaker 3: hear it. On music, I was, I was singing out
- 3:19Speaker 3: of the womb. I just was able to do that
- 3:22Speaker 3: out of the womb from God's graces of grace and
- 3:26Speaker 3: me with talent. But uh, to try to make a
- 3:30Speaker 3: long story short, I was I used to mimic people.
- 3:33Speaker 3: So I would mimic other artists and and I thought
- 3:37Speaker 3: I did a pretty good job of doing it back
- 3:38Speaker 3: in the day, people like Mahela Jackson and yeah, even
- 3:43Speaker 3: women before I hit puberty, I would I would mimic women.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Logan still kem.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah, well maybe he'll hit puberty someday.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Well wait, it actually happened two years ago. I'm thirty
- 3:53Speaker 4: nine now.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And then he grew away. Congratulations.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Yeah, and then then I grew a beard.
- 3:58Speaker 1: It was awesome.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Did you did you you have a late puberty party?
- 4:06Speaker 2: I know a good band you could hire to come play.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Yes you do, Yes, you do work in hey.
- 4:13Speaker 3: So anyway back to non puberty.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Uh.
- 4:21Speaker 3: So I grew up singing other people like Boys the
- 4:24Speaker 3: Men and Charlie Daniels and Leonard skinnerd and Elvis Presley
- 4:29Speaker 3: BB King, just mimicking all these people and thought I
- 4:31Speaker 3: sounded just like them to my ears.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, my, my.
- 4:38Speaker 3: The two people in my family that I looked up to,
- 4:40Speaker 3: that that did music for a living and for the
- 4:43Speaker 3: churches and things like that. Uh, I always wanted their approval,
- 4:48Speaker 3: so I would ask them, Hey, how do I sound?
- 4:49Speaker 2: Did this sound good?
- 4:50Speaker 3: Or did that sound good or whatever, and they would
- 4:54Speaker 3: they would say things like mm hmm, that's all right,
- 4:57Speaker 3: or you should probably start playing drum if you want
- 5:00Speaker 3: to get into music or something. And I was always
- 5:03Speaker 3: beaten down by that. You know, I don't knock them
- 5:05Speaker 3: for it. If that's their real opinion, that's fine. But
- 5:09Speaker 3: years later, in two thousand and five, I believe it was.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I got an Apple MacBook and it changed my life forever.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I was able to record from Garage Band, the preloaded
- 5:23Speaker 3: app that they have on there ye, and I decided
- 5:27Speaker 3: I could record myself. So I wanted to see if
- 5:30Speaker 3: it was if I really sounded like I thought I
- 5:33Speaker 3: sounded or not, And so I started recording myself. I
- 5:35Speaker 3: didn't sound too bad to me, but uh, I went to.
- 5:40Speaker 3: But I still was mimicking other people. So I sounded
- 5:43Speaker 3: like other people. And there's no there's no market for
- 5:45Speaker 3: somebody that sounds like everybody else because those people already exist.
- 5:49Speaker 2: So I didn't have my own voice. I didn't have.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I didn't even know what I sounded like singing because
- 5:55Speaker 3: I've never sang myself.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Was always mimicking someone else. But uh, we went to.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I wanted to record my uncle and my cousin and
- 6:03Speaker 3: I the two people I looked up to, and I
- 6:05Speaker 3: wanted to record all of us singing the song Hallelujah.
- 6:09Speaker 2: And so we went and tried to do that.
- 6:11Speaker 3: We never finished it, and my uncle had to leave,
- 6:15Speaker 3: and I said, I told my cousin, I said, look,
- 6:17Speaker 3: I want to get something done before I go that
- 6:20Speaker 3: I can edit, so I can practice editing and see
- 6:23Speaker 3: what it's like, you know, to learn.
- 6:25Speaker 2: And uh, he said, what do you want to do?
- 6:27Speaker 3: And I just picked a song out of the hymn
- 6:29Speaker 3: book and the song that I had never heard anybody
- 6:32Speaker 3: sing before, so I had no reference. And it was
- 6:36Speaker 3: a great speckled bird. And since I had no reference,
- 6:40Speaker 3: I had to sing from the heart. Played it and
- 6:43Speaker 3: I sang it. It was the first time I'd ever
- 6:45Speaker 3: heard my own voice, and it was uh it was
- 6:49Speaker 3: a I got chills when I sang that first time.
- 6:51Speaker 3: And and uh I came out and I was like, man,
- 6:55Speaker 3: I said, you hear that have that sound?
- 6:56Speaker 2: Man?
- 6:56Speaker 3: He goes, that's all right, okay, Well you keep the
- 7:03Speaker 3: same energy, I see, okay.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And uh.
- 7:06Speaker 3: So I left there and showed it to my uncle
- 7:09Speaker 3: who had left, and he said, he said, well, because
- 7:12Speaker 3: my cousin was recording albums already.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Uh, so he thought that he had edited my.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Voice and things like this, so well he changed he
- 7:20Speaker 3: did something to your voice and changed it up and
- 7:23Speaker 3: and I said, no, he didn't. I said, this is
- 7:25Speaker 3: that was, that's just raw, that's just me saying, that's
- 7:28Speaker 3: all that is. And uh, he didn't believe it. And
- 7:31Speaker 3: then until years later. So then I posted a video
- 7:33Speaker 3: and I said, let's see if let's see if I'm
- 7:35Speaker 3: really supposed to do this for a living or not.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I'll make a video and put it on Facebook. And
- 7:39Speaker 3: I did that and it got like thirty thousand views,
- 7:42Speaker 3: and I thought, man, I'm famous now, yeah, and I was.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I said, shoot, I'm edit for the stars. And then
- 7:50Speaker 3: nothing happened for a long time. Besides, I was working
- 7:53Speaker 3: for my father at his mechanic shop and people would
- 7:57Speaker 3: be people started calling and saying, man, and that song
- 8:00Speaker 3: moved me to tears, and when are you doing an album?
- 8:04Speaker 3: When are you coming out with an album? And he
- 8:06Speaker 3: got me thinking. I was like, maybe maybe that's God
- 8:08Speaker 3: saying this is what you're supposed to do. And so
- 8:11Speaker 3: I took the last three thousand dollars I had and
- 8:14Speaker 3: I made an album.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I went to Nashville, came to Nashville and.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Slipping in the back of my uncle's van, not the
- 8:22Speaker 3: same uncle, but the back of my other uncle's van.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And maybe I had thousand dollars for some songs.
- 8:29Speaker 1: That's awesome now that the uncle would have believed that
- 8:32Speaker 1: you were sleeping in the van anyways.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you wouldn't believe it.
- 8:35Speaker 4: So did you just happen to have an uncle that
- 8:38Speaker 4: was in Nashville.
- 8:40Speaker 3: No, well, I had an uncle in Nashville hopefully would
- 8:43Speaker 3: have let me sleep in his house.
- 8:45Speaker 4: I was like, what a what a mean guy?
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah, you can come, Marty, were just leaving in that
- 8:51Speaker 2: van out there.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, And rumor has it in two thousand and five,
- 8:56Speaker 1: once you bought the MacBook, you were the one that
- 8:58Speaker 1: actually took the bite out of the apple and gave
- 8:59Speaker 1: it iconic apple.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Look, right, I did, I did it. I did.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Indeed, I wanted to show people how the Apple logo
- 9:08Speaker 3: was the forbidden fruit and we're all biting off the
- 9:11Speaker 3: tree of knowledge.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah. So I was just wondering if you have ever
- 9:19Speaker 1: googled yourself? And the reason I asked this because when
- 9:21Speaker 1: you google your name it shows people also search for.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And your other search company is Vanilla Ice, Otis, Redding, Coolio, Skinnered,
- 9:30Speaker 1: Bill Withers, just to name a few. Like, that's some
- 9:33Speaker 1: pretty amazing company right there.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It is. I don't deserve to be in it, but
- 9:38Speaker 2: that's an amazing company. For sure.
- 9:40Speaker 3: That's just Google's algorithm. I'm sure because I've done covers
- 9:45Speaker 3: of all those people's songs, So yeah, that's sure, that's
- 9:48Speaker 3: what that is. I don't I don't think it's people's
- 9:50Speaker 3: you know, saying hey man, he's as good as Withers
- 9:54Speaker 3: for sure. But uh, if that is what he's doing,
- 9:57Speaker 3: then I'm definitely honored by that.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Or what they stand next to you and the beard
- 10:01Speaker 1: and they're like, well, I guess there ain't no sunshine.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Well you got the beard.
- 10:07Speaker 5: Speaking Ain't no Sunshine, Ain't no Sunshine one of my
- 10:11Speaker 5: favorite songs.
- 10:12Speaker 4: And then uh, young world, I'm.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Still got you. What a wonderful worlds kids?
- 10:20Speaker 2: That night?
- 10:22Speaker 4: I still can you hear us?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Hello?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Can you hear us?
- 10:27Speaker 2: Or no?
- 10:27Speaker 1: I can't hear y'all leave and then come back.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna leave. I'm gonna leave and then come back.
- 10:34Speaker 6: That dummy sometimes what happens when you do take a call, uh,
- 10:40Speaker 6: through the broadcast studio that we have, if a if
- 10:43Speaker 6: a text, messager or call comes in, I think that's
- 10:44Speaker 6: what happened when it went blank.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It sometimes messes up with the sound.
- 10:48Speaker 2: But yeah, Dan c.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Shout out you obviously go ahead. I'm sorry, we're both
- 10:54Speaker 1: we're both yeah going there And yeah, that's some decent,
- 10:58Speaker 1: decent company in the Joseph that that he is mentioned with.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And if you guys haven't googled or obviously checked out
- 11:05Speaker 1: Marty Ray, you can find them at Marty ray project
- 11:08Speaker 1: dot com. Obviously he's Marty Ray. The band is Marty
- 11:11Speaker 1: Ray Project. You can check him out on Marty rayproject
- 11:13Speaker 1: dot com. YouTube is the same Marti Ray Project. Twitter
- 11:16Speaker 1: is the same, Facebook's the same. Instagram is the same.
- 11:19Speaker 1: You can check them out on all of them.
- 11:21Speaker 4: So hopefully we get him back there.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Is all right, he's back, all right? Yeah, Sometimes yeah, no,
- 11:31Speaker 1: Sometimes it happens in the app is if you if
- 11:33Speaker 1: a text or a call comes in once in a while,
- 11:35Speaker 1: it just messes up the sound, so in and out
- 11:37Speaker 1: and but yeah, so we were talking kind of about
- 11:40Speaker 1: the amazing you know company through there on Google, and
- 11:42Speaker 1: one thing I wanted to ask, like, You've met some
- 11:44Speaker 1: pretty amazing people in this and throughout this journey, and
- 11:48Speaker 1: I know you can't pick a favorite, but there has
- 11:50Speaker 1: to be at least somebody that sticks out in your
- 11:53Speaker 1: mind that's, you know, through this ventures You're like, this
- 11:55Speaker 1: was a really cool moment in my life, and I
- 11:58Speaker 1: just wanted to know, you know, one of those moments
- 12:00Speaker 1: tell you wanted to speak.
- 12:00Speaker 3: About, Well, there is several, but I'll tell you the
- 12:05Speaker 3: one that's most unbelievable and sounds like it's a movie
- 12:10Speaker 3: and that it's hard to believe. It's just it just
- 12:14Speaker 3: because it keeps the story keeps getting bigger and bigger
- 12:17Speaker 3: as I tell it. But I'm gonna tell it and
- 12:18Speaker 3: people can choose to believe it or not. Before I
- 12:21Speaker 3: had any fans at all, I had these people that
- 12:27Speaker 3: were encouraging me in music to to go after this
- 12:31Speaker 3: thing that when I made that first album and completed
- 12:34Speaker 3: it and got the CDs and things like that, I thought,
- 12:37Speaker 3: hey man, this is gonna sell like hotcakes.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And it didn't do that. It did not do that
- 12:41Speaker 2: at all.
- 12:42Speaker 3: And but I was taking it around and I was
- 12:44Speaker 3: meeting these other artists that had achieved what I was
- 12:47Speaker 3: trying to achieve. And these some of them were legends,
- 12:50Speaker 3: were talking Charlie Daniels and and BB King and Charlie Daniels.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I met him, and you know, you hand.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Your music to these people and you know that they
- 12:59Speaker 3: get this all the time time, but you still do
- 13:01Speaker 3: it just by some glimmer of hope that they will
- 13:04Speaker 3: listen and maybe be able to help you out in
- 13:07Speaker 3: some way, which is most likely never gonna happen. And uh,
- 13:12Speaker 3: but I handed my album to Charlie Daniels one time.
- 13:14Speaker 3: This is not the story, but this is a quick one.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Handed my album to Charlie Daniels. And it was about
- 13:20Speaker 3: a month or two later he tweeted me and I
- 13:24Speaker 3: saved the tweet. He tweeted me and said, Marty Ray,
- 13:29Speaker 3: that Marty Ray Project, listen to your album.
- 13:31Speaker 2: It rocks.
- 13:32Speaker 3: And I was like, wow, man, Like that really boosted
- 13:37Speaker 3: me in a place where I was about to give up,
- 13:40Speaker 3: you know, and I was like this is too hard, man,
- 13:42Speaker 3: I can't. It's just too hard to break into this thing.
- 13:46Speaker 3: And uh, when I seen that, I was like, all right,
- 13:48Speaker 3: I gotta keep going. And so then I met I
- 13:51Speaker 3: went to a BB King's concert and uh when he
- 13:54Speaker 3: was he was old at this point, he was like
- 13:56Speaker 3: in a wheelchair already, and uh he was uh, well
- 14:00Speaker 3: he had to be wheeled around in a wheelchair.
- 14:02Speaker 2: But he sat in a chair in the middle of
- 14:04Speaker 2: the stage.
- 14:05Speaker 3: And I was on the front row and he was playing,
- 14:11Speaker 3: and I'm just sitting there vibing, you know, I'm like,
- 14:14Speaker 3: oh man, oh, BB, you know, just just killing it
- 14:18Speaker 3: up there. And even though he was an older man,
- 14:20Speaker 3: he still killed it. And he stopped in the middle
- 14:24Speaker 3: of a show, in the middle of the show, and
- 14:27Speaker 3: he points over there at me, and he says, as
- 14:31Speaker 3: long as that man right there is having a good time,
- 14:33Speaker 3: so am I.
- 14:34Speaker 2: And he goes matter.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Back mawn thrill is gone on the way, and I
- 14:38Speaker 3: was like, what the heck man, he's talking to me,
- 14:41Speaker 3: And everybody was looking at me. They thought I knew
- 14:43Speaker 3: him somehow, and I didn't know BB. I knew who
- 14:45Speaker 3: he was, but I didn't. I've never met him before.
- 14:48Speaker 3: And uh, I was like, what in the world's happening?
- 14:50Speaker 3: This is amazing. So if the story stopped there, it's
- 14:53Speaker 3: already amazing, but it just progressively gets bigger and crazier.
- 14:57Speaker 3: So after the show, I knew the person that was
- 15:01Speaker 3: putting that show on, so I had the blessing of
- 15:04Speaker 3: being able to go backstage and meet B. B.
- 15:06Speaker 2: King Wow personally.
- 15:08Speaker 3: And uh, but we're going up to the stage, and
- 15:12Speaker 3: we're going behind the stage and it's pitch black dark.
- 15:15Speaker 3: You can't see anything besides the flashlight that they're leading
- 15:18Speaker 3: you by in front of you. And there's this row
- 15:21Speaker 3: of security guards that are standing there with their arms
- 15:24Speaker 3: crossed blocking us from from going. So if we're going
- 15:27Speaker 3: like this, where's the camera. If we're going like this,
- 15:31Speaker 3: the security guards you're over here, right, So there's a
- 15:35Speaker 3: line of security so we can't go like this and
- 15:37Speaker 3: go to the stage. So, but you can't see anything
- 15:40Speaker 3: anyway besides them in this narrow little pathway that you're
- 15:43Speaker 3: walking on. As I'm everybody there's there's like hundreds of
- 15:46Speaker 3: people walking back there, and I'm walking back and all
- 15:50Speaker 3: all of a sudden, through these security guards comes this
- 15:53Speaker 3: this massive hand comes out and grabs my hand and
- 15:57Speaker 3: starts pulling me to those security guards.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And I'm like, what in the world's going on here?
- 16:03Speaker 3: And just a massive hand and he pulls me into
- 16:07Speaker 3: these security guards are pushing me and they're saying, you
- 16:11Speaker 3: gotta leave, and I'm like, somebody got a hold of
- 16:12Speaker 3: my hand. And they parted ways and it was BB
- 16:15Speaker 3: King in a wheelchair pulling me to him and he said.
- 16:19Speaker 3: He looked up at me and he goes, he goes,
- 16:21Speaker 3: I want you to know that I enjoyed having you tonight.
- 16:24Speaker 3: And I said, as yeah, you know, that's kind of
- 16:30Speaker 3: what came out right.
- 16:32Speaker 2: What the freak You're supposed to say? Like why? How?
- 16:35Speaker 2: Why do I deserve this attention?
- 16:37Speaker 3: Right?
- 16:38Speaker 2: What is this?
- 16:39Speaker 3: And he said, I look forward to seeing you back there.
- 16:42Speaker 3: And I was like, this is crazy, man, and I
- 16:46Speaker 3: have I have a Martin guitar.
- 16:49Speaker 2: And B B.
- 16:49Speaker 3: King was under contract with Gips and guitars. He was
- 16:54Speaker 3: not he was obligating. He was contractually obligated to only
- 16:57Speaker 3: sign Gibson guitars. So I waited in the end of
- 17:01Speaker 3: that line and let all these people go in there first.
- 17:04Speaker 2: And they were trying.
- 17:05Speaker 3: They were meeting him, and they were getting a picture
- 17:06Speaker 3: and they were talking to him briefly, and they were
- 17:09Speaker 3: just kind of moving people along like a cattle call
- 17:11Speaker 3: or whatever, and they were taking guitars in there. And
- 17:14Speaker 3: anybody that didn't have a Gibson guitar was being you know,
- 17:18Speaker 3: shoot away, they would not get a signature. So I
- 17:21Speaker 3: seen that and I was like, oh man, he's not
- 17:24Speaker 3: gonna sign my Martin for sure then, but I took
- 17:27Speaker 3: it anyway. And as soon as I got in there.
- 17:29Speaker 3: As soon as I walked in, he looks up and
- 17:31Speaker 3: he goes his eyes lit up and he said, there's
- 17:34Speaker 3: my friend like that. And then I bring the guitar
- 17:37Speaker 3: to him. I hand it right to him. He looks
- 17:38Speaker 3: up at the head of it and he says, he
- 17:40Speaker 3: looks at sees it's Martin.
- 17:42Speaker 2: He goes looks up at me, and he says, I'm
- 17:44Speaker 2: gonna sign it anyway.
- 17:45Speaker 3: And he signed BB King on my Martin guitar, and
- 17:48Speaker 3: they could be the only one signed by BB King,
- 17:51Speaker 3: I don't know. But and then so if the story
- 17:55Speaker 3: stops there, right, it's already big, it's already unbelievable. But
- 18:00Speaker 3: it doesn't stop there. I had that that album that
- 18:03Speaker 3: I created and I handed I handed to him and
- 18:08Speaker 3: he looks at the album. He goes, well, well, well
- 18:11Speaker 3: I knew you. He said something like I knew you
- 18:12Speaker 3: as a musician. I can't remember his exact words, but
- 18:15Speaker 3: it was something like that. And then he looks, he
- 18:17Speaker 3: looks over at the person. He says, hand me that
- 18:19Speaker 3: sharpy back like that, and I thought, no, no, I
- 18:22Speaker 3: was saying, man, I was saying, no, no, I don't want,
- 18:25Speaker 3: I don't want. I don't want you to sign this.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I'm giving this to you. He goes, I know who
- 18:29Speaker 3: it's for. Sharp gets the sharp he hands it to
- 18:33Speaker 3: me and says, I want you to sign this to
- 18:34Speaker 3: B B.
- 18:35Speaker 2: King.
- 18:36Speaker 3: And at this point, at this point, I'm almost in
- 18:38Speaker 3: tears right trying to be a man and not cry
- 18:41Speaker 3: right there in front of B. B.
- 18:42Speaker 2: King. But my first album ever I signed a B. B.
- 18:45Speaker 3: King And I like to think that he kept it
- 18:47Speaker 3: on his bus until the day he died.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Absolutely, that's crazy.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:51Speaker 1: And then the chat, Jeff said like, that's awesome. Let's
- 18:54Speaker 1: see that guitar it uh. He he plays this guitar
- 18:59Speaker 1: on his albums and and a lot of stuff on
- 19:01Speaker 1: the YouTube and different social medias you can actually see
- 19:04Speaker 1: the guitar. And then in some of his videos too,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you can actually see in the background you can see
- 19:10Speaker 1: a picture of bb that signed and everything. So I
- 19:13Speaker 1: can send you a link to a couple of those,
- 19:15Speaker 1: but yeah, if you if you check it out, he
- 19:17Speaker 1: does he still has that guitar. So we were just
- 19:22Speaker 1: saying in the chat, Jeff Kennedy was saying, let's awesome
- 19:24Speaker 1: see the guitar. Obviously you don't have it with you,
- 19:26Speaker 1: but I said, in a couple of your videos, you
- 19:28Speaker 1: can see the guitar and and some pictures and stuff
- 19:30Speaker 1: that that you have of them. We got, No, I
- 19:42Speaker 1: don't know what happened. So he's gonna be right back back.
- 19:49Speaker 1: This is this is the cool what like like you
- 19:52Speaker 1: said when you said, like Nancy, what a story, just
- 19:56Speaker 1: absolutely unbelievable. I couldn't imagine. Like he kept saying how
- 19:59Speaker 1: he had cold chills. You just going there like I
- 20:02Speaker 1: had cold chills just listening to the story and it
- 20:03Speaker 1: didn't even happen to me. Like just an absolutely incredible story.
- 20:09Speaker 2: And there we go back.
- 20:10Speaker 1: We got Yeah, we're just saying, dance no, it's okay.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Danc just is admiring the story as well as us.
- 20:17Speaker 1: We're oppress. I'm about sorry. How you know you were
- 20:20Speaker 1: saying you got goosebumps earlier just listening to your story
- 20:22Speaker 1: and that the opportunity, like just just goosebumps with us.
- 20:27Speaker 1: So I saw him on that hard to believe.
- 20:29Speaker 2: That's so crazy. What'd you say?
- 20:31Speaker 4: I saw him on that tour I'm guessing the same
- 20:33Speaker 4: tour up in Autama.
- 20:35Speaker 1: And it was like I didn't, I was, I was, you.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Know, I think second level, And.
- 20:42Speaker 5: It was it was odd to because my parents introduced
- 20:45Speaker 5: me to Baby King, and I just I've always listened
- 20:48Speaker 5: to him and him and some others. It was odd
- 20:52Speaker 5: to see him in a wheelchair when he first got
- 20:54Speaker 5: rolled out there and the trumpets and the.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Band is playing.
- 20:57Speaker 5: But as soon as he as soon as he started playing,
- 20:59Speaker 5: it was like, this guy, can't you know he's having
- 21:03Speaker 5: trouble walking ball, Holy crap, can he still play?
- 21:07Speaker 1: And he can? Man, he could.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Sing, you know, he couldn't play and sing at the
- 21:12Speaker 2: same time.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess I didn't know that for.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Sure he couldn't.
- 21:18Speaker 3: But he never he never did play and sing at
- 21:21Speaker 3: the same time. He would play his lead parts and
- 21:23Speaker 3: then he would he would he would put his hand,
- 21:25Speaker 3: he would put his arm up on his.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Guitar and he would be like, how about you a
- 21:30Speaker 2: brand new car, said you wanted a Cadillac.
- 21:33Speaker 3: You knowing he would, he would prop it up and
- 21:35Speaker 3: then when it was time for him to play, he
- 21:37Speaker 3: would get to get get to work. But he never
- 21:40Speaker 3: played and sang at the same time, which I found
- 21:43Speaker 3: so incredible.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yeah, Dan See in the Chance says he took a
- 21:46Speaker 1: history of rock and roll class at the University of
- 21:48Speaker 1: Michigan and BB King was the absolute star of the history.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I don't doubt that. Man. I'm gonna tell you what.
- 21:54Speaker 3: BB King still to this day his that whole story,
- 22:00Speaker 3: that whole experience that I was able. I could be,
- 22:04Speaker 3: I don't know, but I can't imagine too many people
- 22:06Speaker 3: that having a story like that.
- 22:08Speaker 2: With B. B. King, I don't. I don't know how.
- 22:10Speaker 3: And it was like it was like a divine moment
- 22:12Speaker 3: that happened, and it still to this day drives me
- 22:15Speaker 3: and keeps me going. And I had, like I said,
- 22:18Speaker 3: I had no fans. I had not one fan then
- 22:20Speaker 3: not one. I had people like him, and him and
- 22:24Speaker 3: Charlie Daniels and and uh Loretta Lynn and and those
- 22:28Speaker 3: people were divinely, without even knowing it, were shoving me
- 22:33Speaker 3: into uh creation. They were they were putting me out
- 22:37Speaker 3: there and making me continue doing what I was doing.
- 22:41Speaker 5: What do you think it was during the concert that
- 22:44Speaker 5: drove him to notice you were you?
- 22:46Speaker 4: You must have been singing at the top of your lawns.
- 22:50Speaker 2: No, I wasn't.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I'll tell you. I'll tell you first. I should have
- 22:53Speaker 3: prefaced it with this when we walked in. You know
- 22:57Speaker 3: how a concert is all the house lights always super dark.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so not when when we walked in there, they
- 23:05Speaker 2: were super dark.
- 23:06Speaker 3: And BB comes out and he says, he starts playing
- 23:09Speaker 3: a little bit, and he stops. He says, raise the
- 23:10Speaker 3: house lights up. I want to I want to see
- 23:12Speaker 3: my people. And uh so they raise them up a
- 23:16Speaker 3: little bit and it's not to his liking.
- 23:18Speaker 2: He says, no, raise them.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Up a little bit more. They raised them up a
- 23:20Speaker 3: little bit more. He goes, now, just turn them all
- 23:22Speaker 3: the way on. So they He literally played the whole
- 23:25Speaker 3: show as bright as a living room. It wasn't like
- 23:28Speaker 3: a still everybody. He said, I want to see everybody,
- 23:31Speaker 3: and so he was not like he was struggling to
- 23:34Speaker 3: see me. And it's not like I'm hard to notice.
- 23:36Speaker 3: If I'm on the front row with the bald head
- 23:38Speaker 3: and a big beard, I think he just I think
- 23:41Speaker 3: what initially drew his attention was that there was a
- 23:44Speaker 3: man that looked like he was a hillbilly just feeling
- 23:48Speaker 3: his music better than anybody in there, right. I think
- 23:51Speaker 3: that's what the initial thing was that, and it never
- 23:54Speaker 3: left him. Then he started feeling something else.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I think.
- 23:57Speaker 3: I think he started feeling a kindred spirit afterwards after.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I think it was I think it was more than just, hey,
- 24:04Speaker 3: there's a bald hitded white guy with a big beard
- 24:07Speaker 3: that looks like it came from the mountains that likes
- 24:09Speaker 3: my music.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I think it went deeper than that. But I do
- 24:12Speaker 2: believe that.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Because of this massive beard and and the balld head,
- 24:16Speaker 3: I think that that was what drew his eyeballs. It
- 24:19Speaker 3: could have been the fact that I took my clothes
- 24:21Speaker 3: off and was dancing up in front of the stage too.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I don't think it was that. I think it happened
- 24:26Speaker 1: just the hillbilly, the hill billy connection.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Kick your story the originally.
- 24:33Speaker 1: So I saw, I saw a couple of throwback pictures
- 24:36Speaker 1: of you, like way way back in the day, pre beard,
- 24:39Speaker 1: probably high school type era. You were an absolute monster.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I feel like you could probably bench an eighteen wheeler
- 24:45Speaker 1: if you really wanted to. Did you play any sports?
- 24:48Speaker 1: Did you run security for school making sure kids weren't
- 24:50Speaker 1: smoking in the boys room.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I I always uh that you picture you talking about
- 24:57Speaker 3: when I was in shape, when I when I look pretty.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Hey, hey, we all got we all got that dad
- 25:02Speaker 1: bod thing going on.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Man like.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Him, not him, he just hit puberty years. He'll get it.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Old as the ship man, old shape. There's different chaps,
- 25:11Speaker 1: that's true.
- 25:12Speaker 3: I'll tell you. I'm I'm a double dad bod. So
- 25:17Speaker 3: I'm going for my third Oh all right, all right, yeah,
- 25:20Speaker 3: I hope I don't reach it, but I'm going. I'm
- 25:22Speaker 3: trying my glass to not reach it, but it seems
- 25:24Speaker 3: like it's getting closer and closer all the You're probably
- 25:28Speaker 3: talking about a uh, You're probably talking about a picture
- 25:31Speaker 3: from uh after I had graduated.
- 25:34Speaker 2: My whole high school career, I was a chunky boy.
- 25:37Speaker 2: You know, I was sick.
- 25:39Speaker 3: I wasn't fat, I wasn't as fat as I am now,
- 25:41Speaker 3: but I was. I was chunky the whole time. But
- 25:45Speaker 3: then after I graduated, I moved back to Memphis. I
- 25:49Speaker 3: was born in Memphis, grew up in Arkansas, went back
- 25:52Speaker 3: to Memphis after I graduated and UH started. I was
- 25:57Speaker 3: didn't have any friends in Memphis, right, So what do
- 26:00Speaker 3: you do? You start looking for ways to occupy your mind.
- 26:03Speaker 3: And I started studying fitness and UH working out.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I started.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Literally all I did was work out and and UH studies.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I just studied fitness. I said, you know what I
- 26:14Speaker 3: was thinking, I want to be a I want to
- 26:16Speaker 3: be a fitness trainer. Now this is this is fun.
- 26:18Speaker 3: And I was religiously working out. It was five years
- 26:21Speaker 3: of my life. I was I was doing that. I
- 26:24Speaker 3: was in I was definitely I was in very very
- 26:27Speaker 3: good shape. I was able to without steroids.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I could bench. I didn't bet.
- 26:31Speaker 3: I don't know what my bench was max max wise
- 26:35Speaker 3: because I didn't do that. But I worked out with
- 26:38Speaker 3: you know, three hundred and ten pounds on the bench.
- 26:42Speaker 3: That's what I worked out with. So I didn't. Uh,
- 26:45Speaker 3: but I don't know what my max was. I didn't
- 26:46Speaker 3: because I thought that was always an ego thing and
- 26:48Speaker 3: I didn't want to get involved with that.
- 26:50Speaker 2: But I never never took steroids.
- 26:53Speaker 3: And UH, when I got married and had my first child,
- 26:56Speaker 3: I lost all the all the gumption and to go
- 26:59Speaker 3: after so hard as I was I started eating more. Yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 3: and you've seen that, you so you've seen that a
- 27:06Speaker 3: chisel jaw.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I used to have, oh yeah, and no offense to
- 27:10Speaker 1: the chisel job. But I like to look as it
- 27:12Speaker 1: is right now with the jazz don't matter anymore. I
- 27:14Speaker 1: never want to see my chin again. So yeah, speaking
- 27:18Speaker 1: of no chins and beards and everything, like, you've done
- 27:20Speaker 1: a lot of stuff for the bearded community. I mean,
- 27:23Speaker 1: what do you think that is one of your biggest
- 27:25Speaker 1: contributions to the bearded community.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Well, I don't know.
- 27:30Speaker 3: People say that, but I didn't go about it like
- 27:33Speaker 3: I was growing a beard before it was.
- 27:37Speaker 2: The popular thing to do.
- 27:38Speaker 3: You know when in high school I grew a beard
- 27:41Speaker 3: and got and god, uh, you.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Know, persecuted for it.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Like the teachers would say you got to go home
- 27:47Speaker 3: and shave and things like that, because some of these
- 27:52Speaker 3: just gonna confuse new students because.
- 27:54Speaker 2: They're gonna thank you the teacher or something.
- 27:56Speaker 3: And I said, that's no reason for me to have
- 27:58Speaker 3: to shave and.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Good in our high school.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so they that is.
- 28:04Speaker 3: I've been growing a beer for a long time, man,
- 28:06Speaker 3: I before Duck Dynasty, before before the thing came.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I don't think I ever.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I don't know if I've I don't know what people
- 28:15Speaker 3: say you've done a lot for the bearded community, but
- 28:18Speaker 3: I don't. I mean, other than just make funny videos,
- 28:20Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know what I've done besides
- 28:23Speaker 3: just make people laugh. And that was always my goal. Yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 3: those parody videos that I did was just to make
- 28:29Speaker 3: people laugh and to see that, uh, to kind of
- 28:32Speaker 3: see that that even though I look mean, I'm not mean.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I'm I'm I'm a gentle, funny guy. I like to
- 28:40Speaker 3: have fun and I think it goes for cause.
- 28:43Speaker 2: I think.
- 28:43Speaker 3: I think, just like everybody, people get judged by their
- 28:48Speaker 3: cover a lot, no matter what they look like. And
- 28:50Speaker 3: that's the worst thing. I I have a quote that
- 28:53Speaker 3: I said years ago. I used to tell people. I said, Look,
- 28:56Speaker 3: don't judge me for my looks, judge me for my sounds.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Close your eyes, m and just listen to my Just
- 29:01Speaker 3: listen to me, and then judge me after that. But
- 29:04Speaker 3: don't look at me and judge me from the way
- 29:06Speaker 3: I look, because you might be wrong.
- 29:09Speaker 2: You might be right, but you might be wrong. Yeah.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Absolutely cool. So, speaking of beards, what's one of your
- 29:15Speaker 1: go to beard products, any any certain ones you like?
- 29:18Speaker 1: Do you use products like.
- 29:22Speaker 3: I used to be sponsored by a beard company beard aalizer. Okay,
- 29:26Speaker 3: I'm not mad at them. They dropped me, but uh
- 29:29Speaker 3: fair loss.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Know it was I'd like to say it was amicable.
- 29:34Speaker 3: It wasn't amicable, but I didn't know they were gonna
- 29:37Speaker 3: do that. But nonetheless we had some good years, made
- 29:40Speaker 3: some funny videos from it.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Yeah. No, you can't take that away.
- 29:44Speaker 3: And but now I'm in the process of starting my
- 29:47Speaker 3: own beard product company. It's it's gonna be called Beards
- 29:51Speaker 3: of Outpha. It's gonna be like a beard fraternity that
- 29:53Speaker 3: is more than just a company. I want to do something.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I don't want to just make beard ole in the kitchen.
- 29:59Speaker 3: I want to I want to build a community of
- 30:02Speaker 3: people that have beards and then people that that don't.
- 30:05Speaker 3: I'm not talking about people that have beards like mine,
- 30:07Speaker 3: even it could be you could, because I'm I feel
- 30:11Speaker 3: even if the people are growing a beard and they
- 30:13Speaker 3: they can't grow a real nice beard, but they they're
- 30:16Speaker 3: they're still trying to rocket. They're friends of mine, man,
- 30:19Speaker 3: which you know, I know, I got a son that
- 30:21Speaker 3: says all my friends are bearded, but that really ain't true.
- 30:23Speaker 3: I got tons of friends today, so it doesn't even
- 30:27Speaker 3: the people that just just like beards, you know what
- 30:29Speaker 3: I mean that they like beards, but they maybe they
- 30:32Speaker 3: can't grow a massive beard, but they're.
- 30:35Speaker 4: It takes thirty seven to hit puberty. It is what
- 30:37Speaker 4: it is.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. I thought it was the thirty seven.
- 30:41Speaker 1: He's oh this guy grew a beard in high school. Yeah,
- 30:44Speaker 1: it wasn't thirty nine.
- 30:45Speaker 5: It was like so like I could grow one, except
- 30:49Speaker 5: I had like I had different patches in different places,
- 30:53Speaker 5: and up until probably like two or three years ago,
- 30:56Speaker 5: all of a sudden it started filling in, but I like,
- 30:58Speaker 5: I was shaving like religiously.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Then all of a sudden, a couple of years ago,
- 31:04Speaker 4: I just got I got lazy.
- 31:05Speaker 5: I had kids, and I was like, I'm just grow
- 31:07Speaker 5: my beard and I'll just trim it when it gets
- 31:09Speaker 5: and I was like, holy crap, and I don't have yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 4: I don't have patches.
- 31:15Speaker 5: And then all of a sudden McLear decides to shave
- 31:18Speaker 5: his beard two years ago and grow it back, and
- 31:21Speaker 5: I was like, I'll see what I can do.
- 31:23Speaker 2: And so here I am.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Since labor day. This is impressive for someone that could
- 31:29Speaker 4: never grow a good beard.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Yes, So, is there any way I can get a
- 31:32Speaker 3: closer look at that beard?
- 31:34Speaker 1: Like, can you get right here, right down, here's a camera,
- 31:37Speaker 1: get rid in there?
- 31:37Speaker 4: It's not bad like so I always had patches here
- 31:40Speaker 4: and here.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Man, you know what, You're encouraging a lot of people
- 31:44Speaker 3: right now, man, that have that problem.
- 31:46Speaker 1: It takes time time. So so there was there and
- 31:50Speaker 1: then also right in here.
- 31:52Speaker 5: But I used to when I was younger, rocking out
- 31:54Speaker 5: the sideburns, So I always I would have sideburns down
- 31:58Speaker 5: to here, which I at it was just gloriously beautiful.
- 32:03Speaker 1: It wasn't. But I like the cidebird, I like the
- 32:07Speaker 1: Elvis look. Yeah, but hell yeah. So when you when
- 32:12Speaker 1: you get your things going, and I'm sure you're absolutely covered.
- 32:15Speaker 1: But if you need more fraternity members, you got two
- 32:17Speaker 1: right here that would love to help you and anything
- 32:20Speaker 1: we can do, even if it's as simple as wearing
- 32:22Speaker 1: you know, a shirt, that will purchase whatever we can
- 32:25Speaker 1: to help you out. Just know that the guy's at
- 32:26Speaker 1: Beard Laws and we have a very very very knowledgeable
- 32:30Speaker 1: beard guy here. I don't know if you've ever seen
- 32:32Speaker 1: any of the videos or anything. But Dan c is
- 32:34Speaker 1: a great, great bearded guy for the bearded community, does
- 32:37Speaker 1: amazing videos and everything on YouTube. He's you know, as
- 32:40Speaker 1: soon as you said that that stuff, his eyes just
- 32:43Speaker 1: I mean his cartoonized are even excited. Whe's a camera
- 32:46Speaker 1: bam right there, Truss. That's absolutely amazing. And like I said,
- 32:50Speaker 1: I know you have, you know, an absolutely amazing following.
- 32:53Speaker 1: But you know, as bearded brother to bearded brother, there's
- 32:56Speaker 1: anything we can ever do to help. We're definitely here
- 32:59Speaker 1: for you.
- 33:00Speaker 2: There's a lot y'all gonna be able to do to help.
- 33:02Speaker 2: I mean, I need everybody.
- 33:03Speaker 3: It's not like, uh, I want everybody to be involved
- 33:06Speaker 3: in the fraternity and then I want to The thing
- 33:08Speaker 3: about me is I'm I want to build a place
- 33:12Speaker 3: like a website and a email list to where we
- 33:14Speaker 3: can communicate with each other without having to go through
- 33:17Speaker 3: algorithms and without having to use other people's platforms, that
- 33:22Speaker 3: we can actually communicate.
- 33:24Speaker 2: And because because I've.
- 33:25Speaker 3: That's the thing about me, I think that's why I
- 33:28Speaker 3: have such a loyal following, is uh, because I've always
- 33:34Speaker 3: commented back to everybody myself. I've always used to answer
- 33:38Speaker 3: every single comment, every one of them, I answered in
- 33:41Speaker 3: the old days, but now it's it's so hard to
- 33:45Speaker 3: do that because sometimes the video some of those videos
- 33:47Speaker 3: are are old and I don't even get notifications for it,
- 33:50Speaker 3: so I would have to go and search every video
- 33:52Speaker 3: every day to find those. But I still try to
- 33:55Speaker 3: get every like on new videos I get.
- 33:58Speaker 2: I get just about every one of them.
- 34:00Speaker 3: And uh, even the messages, the comments and messages and emails,
- 34:04Speaker 3: I answer all those myself because I think that I
- 34:07Speaker 3: think that that that was the reason why I was
- 34:10Speaker 3: meant to be discouraged for a moment during the season.
- 34:15Speaker 3: I was supposed to be discouraged about my singing and
- 34:19Speaker 3: my talent so that when I was able to achieve something,
- 34:22Speaker 3: I would always stay humble and and and I think
- 34:26Speaker 3: that I think that's a big factor in it that
- 34:28Speaker 3: kept me because I appreciate every single person.
- 34:31Speaker 2: That that views my views my work, er, downloads my
- 34:35Speaker 2: albums or whatever they do.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Even if they say, man, you're fat, that you right, Yeah,
- 34:42Speaker 3: I'm like, hey, thank you so much.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Get a lot of things like like on you get
- 34:53Speaker 3: a lot of backhanded compliments on the YouTube, that's for sure.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Oh, it's an interesting place. I just got a couple
- 34:59Speaker 1: more questions if you if you've got time, but if
- 35:01Speaker 1: you've got to run, definitely understand.
- 35:03Speaker 2: No man, I'm just sitting at a gas station. Just
- 35:05Speaker 2: let me know.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Yeah, just I don't interrupted y'all's show twice now with
- 35:10Speaker 3: phone calls.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I owe you more than whatever you need. I'm here.
- 35:15Speaker 1: So what is one personally? What is like one like
- 35:20Speaker 1: kind of beard related joke that you get all the
- 35:23Speaker 1: time that kind of annoys you a little. I know
- 35:25Speaker 1: the one for me personally is you're one of those guys.
- 35:30Speaker 3: No, yeah, no about that one. For me, mine's different
- 35:33Speaker 3: and it's so annoying. And I'll always make a point
- 35:37Speaker 3: to let the people know that it's it's uh overplayed
- 35:40Speaker 3: and annoying by saying when they say it, I always say, hey, man,
- 35:46Speaker 3: that was hilarious.
- 35:47Speaker 2: When's the Netflix special? Pan face?
- 35:51Speaker 3: Like just like oh what they say is they say, hey,
- 35:57Speaker 3: It's not like it offends me. It's just they say
- 35:59Speaker 3: it so much. It's like, please think of something creative.
- 36:02Speaker 3: I'm okay if you talk bad about me, it's funny.
- 36:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna laugh with you. But they say the same
- 36:09Speaker 3: thing looks like his his hair left his head and
- 36:12Speaker 3: went on his face, and I'm like, that's the best
- 36:16Speaker 3: you can do. Many because I because I shaved my head,
- 36:20Speaker 3: his head left, is his hair left his or his
- 36:23Speaker 3: heads upside down or something like that. You know, it's
- 36:26Speaker 3: always something. You know, it might have been funny the
- 36:29Speaker 3: first time me, but when they keep it, I don't know.
- 36:33Speaker 3: But they don't know, you know, they don't know that
- 36:35Speaker 3: that that I've heard that a million times. I'm sure, yeah,
- 36:38Speaker 3: they couldn't. Here's the thing about YouTube is there is
- 36:41Speaker 3: there's a very few times when I'll get an actual
- 36:44Speaker 3: hate comment, which is a blessing. I don't want to
- 36:47Speaker 3: get a lot of hate on YouTube at all, or
- 36:49Speaker 3: any even on Facebook.
- 36:52Speaker 2: So I've been blessed in that I haven't. I haven't.
- 36:55Speaker 3: Most of the comments are lovely, even even the ones
- 36:58Speaker 3: that are, like I said, backhanded, where they say, you know,
- 37:01Speaker 3: how did no haggard kids sing? You know, things like that,
- 37:04Speaker 3: and you go, hey, they like to singing though, that's
- 37:07Speaker 3: all I care about.
- 37:08Speaker 2: And but even those are they're lovely to me.
- 37:12Speaker 3: I don't care if they don't like the way I
- 37:14Speaker 3: look or not, as long as they vibe to what
- 37:16Speaker 3: I'm saying that's all it matters.
- 37:18Speaker 2: May I ain't no pretty boy, ain't trying to.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Be so yeah, gave up on that a long time ago.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:24Speaker 1: So we do a segment on the show that's called
- 37:27Speaker 1: What's in My Beard. It's a segment that's a food
- 37:30Speaker 1: review segment. So what we do is we go to
- 37:32Speaker 1: different places, we try the food, you know, because as
- 37:35Speaker 1: you know, stuff gets in the beard. So we do
- 37:37Speaker 1: just an honest review of the restaurant, and once in
- 37:40Speaker 1: a while we try to bring the people that cook
- 37:42Speaker 1: the food. Because their customer service, they have to be nice,
- 37:45Speaker 1: but this is kind of their opportunity to kind of
- 37:47Speaker 1: complain about some customers. So question to you is what
- 37:51Speaker 1: is one of the foods that you absolutely love which
- 37:55Speaker 1: you're really struggle to eat as of the beard man?
- 37:59Speaker 3: That would be like us, spaghetti, like pasta, you know
- 38:01Speaker 3: what I mean, it's I love pasta and it's so
- 38:05Speaker 3: hard to hard to eat because you gotta you gotta almost.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Gotta chop it up and then eat it in like
- 38:11Speaker 2: like a spoon or something, almost like your kids.
- 38:14Speaker 1: That's right, Yeah, like you cutting up my food this
- 38:17Speaker 1: one as well.
- 38:20Speaker 3: As I was stealing up with sauce all over my
- 38:22Speaker 3: beard somehow always happens.
- 38:24Speaker 5: So what's what's your favorite favorite place anywhere you've been
- 38:28Speaker 5: to eat your most face. It can be hometown. It
- 38:31Speaker 5: can be a dive, bar, can be a deli, it
- 38:33Speaker 5: can be a best restaurant. What's your favorite place eat?
- 38:37Speaker 2: Favorite place to eat? Man?
- 38:38Speaker 3: You talking to a fat boy, So there's many of those.
- 38:42Speaker 3: You gotta you gotta narrow that down.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Brother. What kind of foot you're talking here?
- 38:48Speaker 1: Yeah? Anything like what I if you go?
- 38:50Speaker 5: If you go, let's go with if you go home
- 38:54Speaker 5: and you are relaxing and you just need a good
- 38:58Speaker 5: burger or some good pasta.
- 39:00Speaker 2: What if I'm at home?
- 39:02Speaker 3: If I'm at home and I I want a good burger,
- 39:05Speaker 3: I mean.
- 39:10Speaker 2: To be honest with you.
- 39:11Speaker 3: If it's if it's like a home, I'm at home
- 39:12Speaker 3: and I'm I'm gonna stop and pick something up and
- 39:14Speaker 3: go home with it. It's gonna be just like some
- 39:16Speaker 3: fast food or something. But or I'm gonna make it
- 39:19Speaker 3: myself at home. Okay, But if I'm going out to
- 39:23Speaker 3: a restaurant, it would I tell you a place. There's
- 39:28Speaker 3: a place here called Jumbo Delicious in Hendersonville, and uh,
- 39:33Speaker 3: it is.
- 39:33Speaker 2: It is probably one of the best burgers I've eaten.
- 39:36Speaker 3: There's also a place that it's a franchise I think
- 39:39Speaker 3: called Jonathan's Grill. I don't know if it's a franchise,
- 39:41Speaker 3: but I think it is. They have amazing food, amazing burgers.
- 39:45Speaker 3: But uh, you know, people, people kind of they hate
- 39:50Speaker 3: to get franchises any love. But there's a reason why
- 39:54Speaker 3: they're franchises. They got good food, please.
- 39:57Speaker 1: And they battled through the tough times, the Starred Eye
- 40:00Speaker 1: off with the small shops. They've earned their way up.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't I don't knock them because just because
- 40:04Speaker 3: they may have made have made a big time thing
- 40:07Speaker 3: out of a small town thing.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Yeah, because that's how that's how winning is done.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Like Rocky would say, right exactly.
- 40:14Speaker 1: So when we come down to visit you so we
- 40:16Speaker 1: can hype you up everywhere you go, we'll make sure
- 40:19Speaker 1: to check out those two places, because and burgers are
- 40:23Speaker 1: really tough to eat. With the big beer, they're everywhere.
- 40:25Speaker 1: I'm a guy that you know you can whatever you
- 40:27Speaker 1: can put on a burger, give me, give me the veggies,
- 40:29Speaker 1: give me everything. And it's just everywhere. But it's a
- 40:31Speaker 1: little snack for later.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Where are you at?
- 40:34Speaker 1: We are in New York right on the Canadian border,
- 40:38Speaker 1: so people are like a New York I mean, I
- 40:40Speaker 1: don't know, like when you think New York are like
- 40:41Speaker 1: a New York City. Now a little north like Syracuse.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Are all been eating? No, no, no way north. We are
- 40:47Speaker 1: actually forty five minutes from Ottawa. That's how north we
- 40:50Speaker 1: are almost. Yeah, yes, we're.
- 40:54Speaker 5: Literally seven miles probably ten eight nine, ten miles from
- 40:59Speaker 5: the Canadian yep, just.
- 41:00Speaker 1: To get for the International Bridge.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I love Canada for sure. I was.
- 41:05Speaker 3: I was in Canada last year and I went and
- 41:10Speaker 3: got my first Canadian poutine.
- 41:12Speaker 1: And it was It's a life changer, isn't it.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been craving it ever since. So I'm thinking
- 41:18Speaker 2: about moving.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Hey, if you want to move, why don't you come
- 41:21Speaker 1: come with us? Will put you up in the studio
- 41:23Speaker 1: or whatever. For now you can teach us a couple
- 41:25Speaker 1: of things. But one thing too that you haven't maybe tried.
- 41:27Speaker 1: In Canada, they have things called beaver tails, and it's
- 41:30Speaker 1: almost like a fragged bread dough with cinnamon and powder
- 41:34Speaker 1: and all this contraption. Beaver tails are pretty amazing as well.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Is it like a sweet Yeah, yeah, like a funnel cake.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Kind of like a funnel cake, but like Canadian style.
- 41:45Speaker 1: So maple syrup I think they probably put on it
- 41:48Speaker 1: was is there? There might be I can't remember, but
- 41:50Speaker 1: I think they do something with some maple.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Look are y'all? Are y'all sweet or savory? Man?
- 41:56Speaker 1: I'm a sweet guy. I'm not.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Much savory.
- 42:01Speaker 3: But if you gave me a choice between sweets or
- 42:04Speaker 3: or savory, I would go savory every time sweets are.
- 42:08Speaker 3: I do like them. They're they're great, but I could
- 42:11Speaker 3: do without it. If they didn't exist, it wouldn't hurt
- 42:14Speaker 3: my feelings, you know.
- 42:15Speaker 1: But I haven't a don it in probably two years.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Like I don't.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I don't like I don't like a lot of maple
- 42:20Speaker 1: syrup or anything like that. And give me give me
- 42:24Speaker 1: I don't know, well, for one, give me hot wings.
- 42:26Speaker 1: But there's that.
- 42:29Speaker 4: But if you're ever up near Ottawa or Toronto or Toronto,
- 42:34Speaker 4: look up Ottawa Bluesfest.
- 42:36Speaker 5: It is a fantastic concert in the in the capital
- 42:39Speaker 5: of Canada. And if you're ever up near there, look
- 42:42Speaker 5: us up or let Matt and know or myself and
- 42:45Speaker 5: uh it's it is a time.
- 42:50Speaker 1: We tried, we try to.
- 42:51Speaker 5: It is such a concert in in in a a party,
- 42:56Speaker 5: not not like we don't go there for the party,
- 42:58Speaker 5: it's it's it's it's a little spread out the way
- 43:00Speaker 5: they do it, because there's different places that they.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Go, Like they have the main stage and then they
- 43:05Speaker 1: have like blues Village, and then they have you know,
- 43:08Speaker 1: the kind of the the younger crowd i'd say area
- 43:12Speaker 1: with like selfie technology stations and some different kind of music.
- 43:16Speaker 1: And then my favorite one last year is way way
- 43:19Speaker 1: way back of like nowhere. While this concert was going on,
- 43:23Speaker 1: Rodrigo Gabriella played. I don't know if you've ever heard
- 43:25Speaker 1: of them. They're Brazilian and they they're just like a
- 43:32Speaker 1: male female a twelve string and another one and they
- 43:34Speaker 1: are able to play the guitar and like the the
- 43:37Speaker 1: conference while they're playing, and it's just just an absolute
- 43:41Speaker 1: masterpiece what they do. Like they don't really have words,
- 43:44Speaker 1: and there's one song and they're like they just get
- 43:46Speaker 1: you going and they're like, all right, swing with us,
- 43:48Speaker 1: and you're thinking, well, you don't have songs, and they
- 43:50Speaker 1: just get playing and then the whole crowd next you.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Know, they're going, oh.
- 43:53Speaker 1: And then so you know, you're just singing to them,
- 43:55Speaker 1: just playing, and it's they're they're a pretty cool piece.
- 43:58Speaker 1: And they were up at Fest just in this weird
- 44:01Speaker 1: hidden area. And and when Obama was in president, when
- 44:04Speaker 1: he was president and the Brazilian president came over to
- 44:07Speaker 1: the White House, they actually hired these guys to pull
- 44:10Speaker 1: for them. So wow, yeah, they're they're impressive. I didn't
- 44:15Speaker 1: go to I didn't go to that part. I maid
- 44:17Speaker 1: Who's I watch? I was watching Church with the wife,
- 44:20Speaker 1: who I really enjoy air Church.
- 44:22Speaker 5: But Matt went to see these guys and came back
- 44:25Speaker 5: and their eyes were just it was crazy.
- 44:28Speaker 1: He's like, oh my god.
- 44:30Speaker 3: It was that sounds like an amazing, very amazing interactive show.
- 44:33Speaker 1: It's yeah, it's good. I'll I'll send you a link
- 44:35Speaker 1: to one of their shows one time. And they have
- 44:37Speaker 1: everything down to the minute, like they have a timer
- 44:39Speaker 1: on the side and their whole set is just time
- 44:42Speaker 1: related and they just flow one song to the next.
- 44:44Speaker 1: It's it's a cool thing. And I'll send you a
- 44:47Speaker 1: video of that. But so yeah, if you ever, if
- 44:49Speaker 1: you're ever in the area for blues Fest, and and
- 44:51Speaker 1: it's cool because Ottawa has such a very very good
- 44:54Speaker 1: kind of like music culture, like every different little pub
- 44:58Speaker 1: and area. You know, they just.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Two Ottawa.
- 45:05Speaker 1: No, I went to Edmonton, Okay, way over. So so
- 45:10Speaker 1: we'll get you. We're gonna we're gonna get you Outawa
- 45:12Speaker 1: and we're gonna have a cool little meetup. And well
- 45:15Speaker 1: when things work themselves.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Out, of course, Well, you know, if I go to
- 45:19Speaker 3: a music fest, I'm playing at it, you know what
- 45:22Speaker 3: I mean. So that's the only time I would really go.
- 45:25Speaker 3: I'm not It would seem like somebody like me would
- 45:29Speaker 3: be maybe big on crowds, but I really ain't.
- 45:32Speaker 2: I'm really not big on crowds. I'm like they when
- 45:36Speaker 2: when I lived.
- 45:37Speaker 3: In Memphis, they had this this this huge uh Memphis
- 45:41Speaker 3: and May uh blues festival, a big, huge thing in Memphis,
- 45:46Speaker 3: and uh people like post Malone and all these people
- 45:49Speaker 3: would come and play there, just a massive show.
- 45:52Speaker 2: There'd be there'd be five stages and five bands playing.
- 45:56Speaker 3: At the same time, and and uh at different parts
- 45:59Speaker 3: of the river.
- 46:01Speaker 2: And I was never I was never into that. I went.
- 46:04Speaker 3: I went a couple of times, and it just people
- 46:07Speaker 3: always say, man, you got to come, and I would go,
- 46:09Speaker 3: and I just I'm not big. I'm not into crowds,
- 46:12Speaker 3: you know. I don't like I don't like to have
- 46:14Speaker 3: to fight my way through crowds.
- 46:17Speaker 2: I don't. I don't know why, I just I don't
- 46:19Speaker 2: enjoy it.
- 46:20Speaker 1: So what we'll do then in order to get you
- 46:22Speaker 1: there is I'll work my magic and we'll get you
- 46:24Speaker 1: playing at blues festinadous and be awesome. That's that's the
- 46:27Speaker 1: new goal.
- 46:29Speaker 2: One. I'll do that. I'll do that.
- 46:31Speaker 1: We'll do that.
- 46:32Speaker 2: So listen, we can hang out backstage.
- 46:34Speaker 1: There we go. We're in serious so we uh, we're
- 46:38Speaker 1: not gonna waste any more of your time. I just
- 46:39Speaker 1: want to tell you thank you so much for taking,
- 46:42Speaker 1: you know, the opportunity to do this, and you know,
- 46:44Speaker 1: hopefully in the future will stay connected, you know, and
- 46:46Speaker 1: we'll uh, you know, we'll we'll we'll obviously be a
- 46:49Speaker 1: part of your bearded fraternity that you're having and you
- 46:52Speaker 1: know it's it's it's a great uh bearded brotherhood that
- 46:55Speaker 1: kind of we started. And seriously, I want to I
- 46:57Speaker 1: want to thank you very much man for taking the time.
- 46:59Speaker 1: We appreciate you.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Well, it's it's it's already be gone. It's right here.
- 47:03Speaker 3: There's three there's three members already.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Absolutely, and for anybody else that is still watching, you
