• 0:52
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, yeah, definitely.
• 0:53
SPEAKER_01: All right, I want to ask you this etiquette thing.
• 0:55
SPEAKER_01: Okay, but it's actually in the parking lot, which is where it gets a little gray area.
• 1:01
SPEAKER_01: Now, let's say, and I'm not saying this is me, but let's say sometimes you need to go to your car for a couple reasons.
• 1:09
SPEAKER_01: You need to go to your car because you're eating lunch and you just need to get away from the office.
• 1:14
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 1:14
SPEAKER_01: Or you go to your car because you just need a breather.
• 1:20
  SPEAKER_01: Work is tough today.
• 1:22
SPEAKER_00: I thought it was because you need you forgot something.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_00: Like you're up, it's in the front seat.
• 1:26
SPEAKER_01: No, no, you're going in your car and you're sitting in your car.
• 1:28
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:29
  SPEAKER_01: You're eating lunch.
• 1:30
SPEAKER_01: You maybe you just have had a rough day.
• 1:32
SPEAKER_01: You just need some minutes.
• 1:33
SPEAKER_00: And it takes you away from the office, but you you're not really gone.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_00: Like you don't have that.
• 1:38
SPEAKER_01: Or maybe you're in your car because you are doing something work-related and you just need that piece and that space.
• 1:46
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 1:46
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 1:47
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 1:48
SPEAKER_01: So if someone's in their car in the parking lot at work, do you approach them because you might need to ask them a question?
• 1:56
SPEAKER_01: Or you just wanna What is the etiquette?
• 2:01
SPEAKER_01: If someone's in their car, do you even approach their car whatsoever?
• 2:05
SPEAKER_00: Okay, you kind of set it up with if you had a work question.
• 2:08
SPEAKER_00: If it was something relevant that you really needed an answer to, in other words, uh, I don't know.
• 2:15
  SPEAKER_00: We're gonna take Melissa.
• 2:17
SPEAKER_00: I don't know why, but you know, well, she parks next to me every day.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_00: So, okay, and and let's just say she was sitting in the car, let's say she was eating lunch.
• 2:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but you needed to know if something officially if she got the call back that it's a go.
• 2:30
  SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_00: Because you're now leaving for the day.
• 2:33
SPEAKER_00: I don't really see a problem with a very quick, you know, hey, just I'm heading out.
• 2:38
SPEAKER_00: Just did you get the call?
• 2:39
  SPEAKER_00: Are we a go?
• 2:40
SPEAKER_00: Because you don't need to have a big conversation.
• 2:42
SPEAKER_00: It can end with yes, or not yet.
• 2:46
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's all I need.
• 2:47
  SPEAKER_00: I don't need more than that.
• 2:48
SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
• 2:49
  SPEAKER_01: Disagree with you more.
• 2:50
SPEAKER_01: Couldn't disagree with you more.
• 2:52
SPEAKER_01: If I'm in my car because I'm eating lunch, first of all, I will get to your thing, send me an email or a text or what what however you communicate in your workspace, a Google chat, whatever.
• 3:02
SPEAKER_01: Uh, same thing with like if I I don't know, say I'm editing a video in my car and I went to my car because I needed to get away from everyone interrupting me.
• 3:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know, that might be something that would happen in this building.
• 3:15
SPEAKER_01: And so then so I had three separate people, I mean, maybe not me, but three separate people came to my catch.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_01: Came to my car for one thing or another.
• 3:26
  SPEAKER_01: I I it's like I'm gonna tell you the problem.
• 3:29
SPEAKER_01: This is my safe space.
• 3:30
SPEAKER_00: And also here's why it's not, unfortunately, and I'm gonna use the example, not necessarily you, but you.
• 3:37
SPEAKER_00: Um You and I have parked in the same spots for almost 20 years.
• 3:41
  SPEAKER_00: Yep.
• 3:41
SPEAKER_00: We are in convenient spots, we are in the mix of every other vehicle of the people that work here.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_00: And they know your car and they're doing it.
• 3:52
SPEAKER_00: I would have said to you, I agree 110% with you had you backed out of your parking spot and even went to the back of the parking lot.
• 4:02
SPEAKER_00: Then you've basically said, Done!
• 4:07
SPEAKER_01: Well, and especially if if I've had a bad day, which I don't have very many bad days here.
• 4:10
  SPEAKER_00: No, you don't.
• 4:11
SPEAKER_00: But when it's sometimes you do need, I understand this.
• 4:14
SPEAKER_00: When Allie gets into uh when Allie gets into editing a video, this is not a negative, this is just a true observation.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_00: You are extremely focused, and a bomb could go off next to you, and you'd be like, huh?
• 4:25
  SPEAKER_00: So I no, I'm serious.
• 4:27
  SPEAKER_00: I don't, I don't that's not bad.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_00: That's just you are very, very focused on that thing.
• 4:31
SPEAKER_01: So here's my suggestion because obviously Well, because I want to throw in the Melissa thing, and I'm just using Melissa as an example because this is most people are terrified of her in the building.
• 4:41
SPEAKER_01: I want you to think of like uh your office and and all of the dynamics of this.
• 4:44
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 4:45
  SPEAKER_01: So let's say Melissa's having a bad day.
• 4:47
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 4:47
SPEAKER_00: Oh well, no, everybody would know before she went to her car.
• 4:50
  SPEAKER_01: But hear me on.
• 4:51
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, sorry.
• 4:52
SPEAKER_01: So Melissa goes to her car and then all of a sudden, uh, Amelia goes on on Melissa's window.
• 5:00
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 5:00
SPEAKER_01: But she went to her car to get away from everyone.
• 5:03
SPEAKER_00: Did I think she'd give Amelia the pass?
• 5:05
SPEAKER_01: Okay, but you can't even.
• 5:06
SPEAKER_00: If it was Jeff who pissed her off and put her in that place to begin with, she'd be like, What?
• 5:12
  SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_00: Amelia, she'd be like, hey, girl.
• 5:16
  SPEAKER_01: Okay, yes, you're right.
• 5:17
SPEAKER_01: But this is all personal dynamics.
• 5:19
  SPEAKER_01: No, I no, it's not.
• 5:20
SPEAKER_00: I your mistake was you didn't back away.
• 5:23
SPEAKER_00: Even if you stayed in the parking lot and would have parked over by the far exit, uh-huh, you basically at that point are saying, I am away from you.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_01: What do you guys think?
• 5:33
SPEAKER_01: Because I think that if Melissa goes in her car because she needs a breather, then But we don't know that.
• 5:38
  SPEAKER_01: I don't know that.
• 5:39
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 5:39
SPEAKER_01: But she's in her car.
• 5:40
SPEAKER_00: And if I'm leaving and I'm like, look, my day's ending too, but I want to make sure you have what you need because you don't want to be bothered after you pull out of the parking lot.
• 5:50
SPEAKER_00: You might have preached that a few billion times.
• 5:53
SPEAKER_00: Hey, Jeff, Donardo, you hearing this?
• 5:56
  SPEAKER_00: Stop texting your ancestors.
• 5:57
SPEAKER_01: I want this, I want this to apply to every office.
• 6:00
  SPEAKER_00: Well, it does.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm sure it would, but I'm just saying you have to, you have to kind of look at it like there are things that are at play that could be happening.
• 6:08
SPEAKER_00: If you're leaving because you got to go to the gym, you gotta get that, you gotta get that frustration of this joint out of your soul.
• 6:14
  SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
• 6:15
SPEAKER_00: And but you also need to make sure Melissa has what you need, you're also helping her.
• 6:19
SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of dynamics at play.
• 6:21
SPEAKER_00: I think the real message would have been back out of your parking spot, park on the other end of the parking lot, away from where people walk, because you know these people will not walk the far parking lot to go bother you.
• 6:33
SPEAKER_01: Baseline is if they're in their car, the only interaction that we should have is me flipping you the bird on the way out because I'm gonna make you laugh.
• 6:40
SPEAKER_01: Yes, or like I've done this before where I will see our coworker Sam in her car.
• 6:45
  SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
• 6:46
SPEAKER_01: And I, if her and I make eye contact, I'll wave.
• 6:49
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 6:50
SPEAKER_01: Other than that, no, she must be she could even be on a conference call.
• 6:54
SPEAKER_01: That's a tough one for me, too, because I have such limited contact with her.
• 6:57
SPEAKER_01: You're using it, you're using it with for uh on a base by base case.
• 7:01
SPEAKER_01: Well, of course, people are gonna apply it to their own base.
• 7:04
SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm saying what the rule should be.
• 7:07
SPEAKER_00: The rule is if you're in your car, don't approach.
• 7:10
  SPEAKER_00: You're wrong.
• 7:10
SPEAKER_00: The rule should be if you're in your car and you want to be left alone, just go to a different spot in the parking lot where everybody else is not gonna walk by you and suddenly be like, she's fair game.
