- 0:03SPEAKER_03: This is the Mostly Football Show, a uniquely Australian take on the NFL and all things in the world of sport.
- 0:12SPEAKER_03: Over to you, Pete.
- 0:14SPEAKER_04: Good morning, good afternoon, good evening to you all, wherever you are in the wild world.
- 0:19SPEAKER_04: Welcome to season two, episode two of The Mostly Football Show.
- 0:23SPEAKER_04: This week I'm joined by three young men.
- 0:26SPEAKER_04: We have Matt, uh KG, and the return of uh we will lovingly call him New England Chris.
- 0:34SPEAKER_04: So welcome, James.
- 0:35SPEAKER_04: How are we all doing?
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Good, but I haven't been called young in many years, so thank you.
- 0:42SPEAKER_04: That's how you look, mate.
- 0:43SPEAKER_04: It's how you look.
- 0:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 0:45SPEAKER_04: There's probably a good reason for that, Kerry, but we'll uh we'll carry on.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: So true.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: So true.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: That's all right.
- 0:52SPEAKER_04: How's your week been, guys?
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Lots going on in the world of sports and NFL, so um can't wait to get into it.
- 1:00SPEAKER_04: How about you?
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, pretty good.
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: We're we're now six weeks away, I think, from well, six and a bit weeks away from the first Thursday night game of the season.
- 1:09SPEAKER_04: So um, and as promised uh this week we're gonna be taking an in-depth look at the AFC East and West, or as in-depth as we can get within the hour.
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: Um but let's start with uh all the news that is the news across the nation.
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: Now it's time for the latest in NFL news.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: Matt, what's been happening?
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Uh this week's news.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: So um off-field sorrow's Chief's offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy has stepped away from the team after his wife, Mia, was shot multiple times at the Virginia home on Sunday night.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Um, how pleased she's reported to be in a stable condition.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Their son Elijah has been arrested on three felony charges.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: So um, some really tough news coming out of the Kansas City area.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Andy Reid has publicly voiced his support for the family.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Vita Veya has requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after his extension talks with them stalled.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: He's entering the last year of his deal, set to earn$17 million.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: None of that is guaranteed, and reportedly prefers a West Coast destination, with the Raiders mentioned as a possible fit.
- 2:20SPEAKER_06: Oh, wow.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Down in the West 49ers head coach Carl Shanahan is having to run training camp remotely after suffering a concussion in a car accident recently.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: He's expected back, but he's been limited in terms of what he can do over the last few days.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: The commanders have fired their Titans coach Ben Steele following a June DUI arrest, and Wes Walker's been filling in for him.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: And Jamal Adams has agreed to a deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: In terms of camp and roster movement, all 32 teams are now in training camp as of July the 28th.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Um, Trent McDuffie was traded from the Chiefs to the Rams for four picks, including the first rounder, as the Chiefs have retolded secondary round free agent, signing a Lowy Gilman and rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Jacoby Brisse of the Cardinals has reworked his deal.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: He's now uh$15.5 million a year player from 2026 onwards.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Um, and the Christian Gonzalez, Chris, this is one for you, extension talks are ongoing with Robert Kraft saying an offer is on the table to make him the highest paid corner in team history.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: That's nice.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: On the physically unable to perform list, we've got Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce, Seahawks safety, Nick Amon Wari.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Um, and in further bad news on the injury front, Panthers linebacker, Nick Scorton suffered a torn ACL in practice.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: So that's a major blow to Carolina's past rush for the coming season.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Furthermore, Lions rookie wide receiver Kendrick Kore tore his ACL in OTAs and is out for the season.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: So um, anyone for um natural grass?
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Let's uh revisit that.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: We'll bring that one back.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Panther zoner David Tepper is investing$500 million uh dollars of his own money into the team stadium renovation.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And the Chiefs have unveiled renderings for a planned$3 billion don't stadium in Kansas.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: I think in the early stages of season one, we talked about the Chiefs possibly looking at moving back to Kansas.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: And finally, full the full 2026 draft class has now signed with Rams quarterback Ty Simpson, uh, who we talked extensively about um in season one, being the last first rounder to ink his rookie deal.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: And that, gentlemen, is your weekly roundup from July the 21st to 28th, 2026.
- 5:10SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 5:10SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: And uh good to see no domestic violence in there at all apart from the one shooting, I guess.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: What is going on?
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: What is going on?
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: Very well.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: So if there was one shooting victim in the AFL or NFL, it would have been international news as far as the the British Commonwealth is concerned, and they'd be jumping out of their skin saying, How do we stop this?
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:36SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Uh we should ask you for your quick opinion on Christian Gonzalez.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I we need to keep him uh because he's probably one of two cornerbacks that the New England Patriots fans could actually name for for being famous.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: The other one is Malcolm Butler who made that great intercept, but Gonzalez for doing such a damn good job.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: Last year he had a big way um to a couple interceptions, um winning some games for us.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: So yeah, we we want to hold on to those sort of guys.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: We have been a bit lacking on the other side from where he plays.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: So when we've let quarterbacks have some space to pass, they've actually done some pretty good ones and they've learned to stay away from Gonzalez, so everything's going down the other side of the field, and that's where they were vulnerable by the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: Big time, allowing passing time.
- 6:29SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 6:32SPEAKER_04: We're gonna start out west in the AFC West.
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: So we've uh we've all got a few teams to work through, but let's get kicked off with probably the surprise of the AFC West Um last year, or perhaps the no surprise of the AFC West.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 6:51SPEAKER_04: Uh shall we start with the Raiders?
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Well, that's me on the clock.
- 6:56SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: The Raiders.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: 2025 record was 3 and 14, which left them last in the division.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Um they have a new head coach for the forthcoming season, Clint Kubiap.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: Um in terms of what that means, Pete Carroll was fired after one season, and Clint Kubiak will be a first-time head coach working with John Spytek, who's in his second year as general manager.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Um there's been a full coaching staff overall across offense, defense, and special teams.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Um, and the uh Raiders also traded to quarterback Geno Smith to the Jets.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: We obviously talked extensively last season about the Max Crosby to the Ravens trade, and there wasn't.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: And um obviously that was called off with Max staying with the Raiders.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Um finishing last in uh the AFC West with a 3-14 record meant that the Raiders picked first, and we all know that they chose Fernando Mendoza, um, a call out of Indiana.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Um in uh with pick number 38, they uh selected Traden Stukes, a safety out of Arizona.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Um in the third round, Caeron Crawford, an edge rusher who is seen as a developmental project.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Uh via trade in round three, they also selected out of Texas AM Trazuna third, who's also seen as a depth player on the offensive line.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: And we talked a little bit about Jamaud McCoy, a cornerback out of Tennessee who'd been uh beset with injuries and missed a senior year.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Um the Raiders traded up in round four to get him, and he is widely considered to be the steal of the draft.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: In free agency, the Raiders reset the market for offensive linemen, um, signing Tyler Linderbaum, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, to a three-year 81 million with 60 million guaranteed contract.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: So that is the richest ever deal in NFL history for an offensive lineman.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Um, in terms of other additions, we do know that they added uh Kirk Cousins as a quarterback.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Um, he will uh start, we are led to believe, but moreover, provide guidance, tutelage, and mentorship to Fernando Mendoza as he develops through year one and possibly year two.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: I believe both Cousins and the Raiders have an option on um his second year.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Um, in terms of outs, uh, we also saw quarterback Kenny Pickett leave.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: So really the Raiders have shuffled the deck with both Geno Smith and Kenny Pickett leaving.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Um, and then there were minor other outs um uh with undisclosed terms to other bottom feeders in the lead.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Um media consensus is this is one of the league's most productive off-season rebuilds.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: Um we talked about Mendoza and Cousins uh in the quarterback room, and the third quarterback will be Aidan O'Connell providing his insights.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Umer Mark Davis has been vocal about rising league fines.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Um, and in the preseason, the Raiders faced the Cardinals, the Texans, and the 49ers.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Their regular season schedule sees them play eight home games and nine away, with their bye coming in week thirteen.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: And that gentleman is your roundup for the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 10:44SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'm gonna press you there.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: What's what's their what do they get what record are they gonna end up with and what position are they gonna be finishing?
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Whoa.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is harder.
- 10:55SPEAKER_04: Um one are we gonna start with them within their division first?
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: Uh yes.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: Yes, we'll we'll we'll probably have a wider um discussion later about uh playoffs and how far they'll get.
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: Um but uh uh obviously uh uh Matt's I've caught Matt on the hop, so while Matt is trying to work out what he thinks will happen with the Raiders uh in terms of Raiders will finish six and eleven.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: Six and eleven, and assuming assumingly finishing fourth in the um in the no benchmark other than the raiders will finish six and eleven.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Six and eleven.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Agreed, agreed six and eleven would be a win improvement on last season.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: They've actually, I mean, obviously got a very tough division, you know, and also um play the likes of the Bills, the 49ers, um um the Broncos, um, the Titans, the Patriots as well.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the Patriots are on our schedule.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: So Patriots.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: So um the the the six wins I've got them down for are versus the Dolphins, at the New Orleans Saints, um, at the New York Jets, at the Cleveland Browns, and at the Arizona Cardinals.
- 12:23SPEAKER_04: That's uh that's disgraceful that you'll think Geno Smith won't take his revenge on them at the Jets.
- 12:29SPEAKER_04: And also that Shadur is not going to be lighting up the league again this year.
- 12:32SPEAKER_04: Come on.
- 12:33SPEAKER_04: That's a lot of away games you've you've chosen them to win as well.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: Their home games are super tough.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Um they've got the Rams, the Bills, the Chiefs, um uh the Seahawks, the Broncos, and the Titans at home.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: So yeah, can you see them winning many of those, Chris?
- 12:53SPEAKER_05: Uh no, not really.
- 12:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 12:56SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 12:58SPEAKER_04: Let's move from the Raiders.
- 13:01SPEAKER_04: We'll go from bottom to top.
- 13:03SPEAKER_04: Gary.
- 13:04SPEAKER_04: Tell us about the Broncos this year.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: The Broncos.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: Well, I I can uh confess I don't have quite as um thorough of an update about the Broncos, but I can tell you that they were a little bit boring this offseason because look, when you finish yeah, when you finish with a good record, um you don't make many moves, and they were one of those teams.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Uh finished last year at 14-3, um, you know, um got knocked out uh in the AFC championship game.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: So a dominant player uh all season long had a fantastic home record, uh eight and one, away record six and two.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: So if you're a fan or if you're a coach, you probably don't see much need to change except for the things that went wrong.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: And where they finished um badly was um just general um in scoring.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: You know, they didn't score uh the lights out, but they always finished consistently and um they had a great defense.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: So their moves were kind of um reflective of where they were last year.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: So really what they did was keep their core uh intact, um, paid the players who needed to be play paid.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Uh they did make some moves with some of the contracts.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: So got Jalen Waddle, who's a wide receiver, who had a great contract extension for 84 mil.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: I've definitely gotten into the wrong, wrong profession because that seems all right to me.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: At about 28 million.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Finally had talent, right?
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: That little thing.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, come on.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Uh the um they uh are also um looking to or they did uh extend Bo Nicks um just to make sure that um he is taken care of.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: I think he's getting uh 18 or 18.6 million in his rookie contract, and it runs through 2027, uh, but they will make sure that they take care of him.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Uh and um being his only his second year, I think he's all right.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Um what else do we need to know?
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Uh they have really just looked at uh a little bit of tightening on defense, so they've um secured some uh minor players um to make sure that they've got some depth in on defense.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: They've uh extended a contract to Patrick Surtain the second, uh$96 million extension.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Uh and I think that is the real big move.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: When we talk about uh record, the hardest part is do we expect them to continue that same run this year?
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, just looking at all the analysts and all of the predictions, it's not quite.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Um they're probably uh feeling safe, but the analysts put them at about 11 and 6 uh on the low end and 13 and 4 on the high end.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: So if we if we look at that in between, I'd say they would still finish fairly good in the division, um, or at least on their ladder, they're still probably the top in the AFC West, but um it won't be quite as spectacular this year.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Very good.
- 16:31SPEAKER_04: So I've got two questions for you then, Gary?
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_04: Uh one, what do you think their record's gonna be?
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: Um and secondly, d for for all of us, do we think Bo Nicks is gonna have as good a year this year as he did last year?
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Ooh, that's a tough one.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: So I'll answer the Bo Nicks question first because I I think that one's easier.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: And the short answer is probably not.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Uh you know, I think there's always a um, you know, when people have your number, they get to watch lots more film.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: They they get to really study up on um where they were exposed.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: And I think he'll like most uh quarterbacks in their second and third year, they'll just drop um from that um spectacular start.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: So I think he'll be just a little less than what he was before, but I think they'll still perform.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, they've got a great coach and um uh you know, uh love him or hate him.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, they are they are uh well coached, and I think that is gonna um bode well for them as far as where I think they will finish.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: I'm probably leaning towards the 11-6 mark.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: If I were to to um give my projection, uh just looking at the um the schedule they have, it's tougher.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: Uh they've got uh a lot of uh big players who made big moves like the Rams.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: I think the Chiefs will go better this year.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I think obviously um with the Packers and um the 49ers, they're gonna struggle.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: So I think they've got still a good chance, but I don't think they will top all of those like they did last year.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be interesting to see how Bonicks handles coming back from such a devastating ankle injury from the end of the season as well.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Will he be more tentative?
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Does he think he had enough time to strengthen it and and do the right rehab?
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: So he could be super confident or he could be a little bit timid in the early stages.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: I don't see them he they should put him in for some for some snaps during the preseason games in maybe week three or something, but it's up it's up to s to see where that progression is and if he will feature it all in in in the preseason.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: Because that'll be a good indicator as to how confident he's feeling.
- 18:46SPEAKER_04: That's a great point, Chris, as well.
- 18:48SPEAKER_04: If their O-line d is uh not up to scratch, then he's gonna be got after and got after quickly in the first couple of games of the season.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: And and like you said, the the real big test is, you know, how is he going to to be after the injury?
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: Is he gonna be hesitant or is he gonna really, you know, use that youth and exuberance to say, nope, I'm still a Superman and I can do anything.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: So we will see.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: Very good.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Bronco's done.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: Bronco's down.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: Well let's let's let's leave the elephant in the room um uh out for a minute and let me talk about the Chargers.
- 19:26SPEAKER_04: Chargers, like everyone else, had a pretty quiet off season.
- 19:30SPEAKER_04: Uh not major moves.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: I don't think we've mentioned in the news.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: Their biggest strength will be their coach.
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: Uh Jim Harbaugh's a fantastic coach.
- 19:38SPEAKER_04: Um he'll make them a lot stronger, and obviously they're quarterback as well.
- 19:42SPEAKER_04: Uh and as as much as we joke, uh Justin Herbert is still one of the strongest arms in the league.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: He's a very solid veteran quarterback, and they've got a few and upcoming young people now to help support him.
- 19:55SPEAKER_04: They they had a good season last year.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: I think their focus this year is on how do you translate their league form into playoff form.
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: Um I can't remember or wouldn't be able to tell you um the last time they actually won a playoff game.
- 20:10SPEAKER_04: So and I know they're in a tough league, but uh when you're finishing ten or nine and then not doing very well in the or ten or seven and still not doing well in the playoffs, that's you know, that's got to be your next kick on.
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: So I think Justin Herbert is is key.
- 20:24SPEAKER_04: Now obviously they've got Amarian Hampton now, so he could be a breakout star for them this year.
- 20:29SPEAKER_04: And of Harbor loves the running game.
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: So if they can establish a strong, hard running game, and Amarian Hampton can live up to his hype, then you know they've got a judge cast a good chance of doing that, and then also allowing him to open up to the wide receiver group that they've got.
- 20:48SPEAKER_04: So um they've got a couple of new weapons, a lovely named person called Lad McConkie.
- 20:54SPEAKER_04: What a great name to have, and Trey Harris, and and they'll be hoping those guys they develop into something really special.
- 21:01SPEAKER_04: So I think they're on the cusp of doing something, or they're on the cusp of moving into Raiders territory if they're not too bad.
- 21:08SPEAKER_04: Um they've still got Khalil Mag and Derwin Jones sitting in their in their defense, and they are outstanding defenders.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: Um getting the culture right will be what Harbaugh's after.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: I think if he can get the cult culture right and and get people focused on this is the job in hand, this is what I'm gonna do, here's here's how we're gonna win games.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: Um I think with Justin Herbert at the helm they've got a really good chance.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Um they've got some great offensive tackle play.
- 21:35SPEAKER_04: However, their offensive line is pretty weak, and they don't have a lot of depth in their cornerbacks, and cornerbacks and and defensive players were all over in the draft, and I I don't think the Chargers particularly drafted that well this year to add to them.
- 21:52SPEAKER_04: Um that said, their schedule is not too bad.
- 21:56SPEAKER_04: Uh if you guys are gonna press me like I pressed you, and you would A as well you should.
- 22:01SPEAKER_04: Um I have a feeling that they'll come out quite high this year.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: I I can see them eleven and six, perhaps, and and I think they'll be competing around Denver with Denver for for first and second place.
- 22:13SPEAKER_04: I think this is particularly strong division to look at first with the Chargers, um the Broncos, and now um we're gonna roll into the Chiefs.
- 22:23SPEAKER_04: Um I mentioned them as the elephant in the room because last year was obviously an anomaly.
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: Uh they finished six and eleven, uh, which if you'd have pressed us all at the start of last season, what's the record of the Chiefs?
- 22:34SPEAKER_04: And anyone that said six or eleven, we we would have uh well, one would be rich.
- 22:38SPEAKER_04: Maybe the other way around.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Six and eleven.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: So so where are the Chief strengths?
- 22:44SPEAKER_04: Well, obviously Mahomes is back.
- 22:47SPEAKER_04: His Achilles is better.
- 22:50SPEAKER_04: Um was it his Achilles or an ACL or whatever he had done?
- 22:54SPEAKER_04: Um he has been taking snaps already, so it's looking like he's strong there.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: Uh I'll I'll say what I said again last year.
- 23:05SPEAKER_04: If they turn this into the Travis Kelsey retirement tour, then I don't think they'll do as well as they can.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: If they turn it into a strong Mahomes-based season, I think we might see a return of the Chiefs that have dominated Super Bowls and move forward.
- 23:22SPEAKER_04: They signed uh Kenneth Walker the third.
- 23:24SPEAKER_04: Obviously a great signing for them to inspire their running game.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: If their running game gets working, then then Mahomes is one of the hardest quarterbacks in the league to stop.
- 23:34SPEAKER_04: So so and Andy Reid is is again a strong, strong uh coach.
- 23:40SPEAKER_04: Uh having Kelsey in there, that's the thing that worries me the most.
- 23:44SPEAKER_04: He's as good a player as he's been and as good a player as he can still be.
- 23:49SPEAKER_04: Uh he does take a lot of attention and and and sometimes that's not necessarily the things uh they need at at all.
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: So we'll see.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: Um Xavier Worthy is due a breakout season, and again, if he can get the deep passing to him, the Chiefs will be a threat from offense to defense and go from there.
- 24:10SPEAKER_04: Um so where do I think they'll finish?
- 24:14SPEAKER_04: Well, possibly uh I don't know.
- 24:17SPEAKER_04: Uh 11-6 as well.
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: I I I think there's a real good chance that uh the Chiefs, the Chargers and the Broncos will all finish around that eleven and six.
- 24:27SPEAKER_04: Mark?
- 24:28SPEAKER_04: Um I do like the Chiefs, though.
- 24:30SPEAKER_04: I do think that we all have to be very careful with underestimating them.
- 24:35SPEAKER_04: They're not going to be the Chiefs of last year, they're not gonna go eleven and six uh six and eleven, it's more likely to be the other way around.
- 24:42SPEAKER_04: Does worry me a little bit, they got rid of Trent McDuffie because that's uh that's a great get for the Rams, and we'll talk about the Rams in in a future episode, but also a key loss to the defense, and I don't think they replaced him through drafting or or anything else.
- 24:57SPEAKER_04: So consistency is what they're gonna need.
- 24:59SPEAKER_04: As I said earlier, if they can get uh Walker the third up and running, Xavier Worthy but getting in deep, um making deep catches, then I think uh we will be fine, or they will be fine.
- 25:12SPEAKER_04: So again, we'll go for an eleven and six.
- 25:15SPEAKER_04: Um so so we've got three three teams on eleven and six and one on uh six and eleven.
- 25:21SPEAKER_04: So we'll see how we go.
- 25:22SPEAKER_04: But I would expect that the Broncos Chargers and Chiefs probably all make the playoffs.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Um three quarters of their starting secondary from last season have departed McDuffie, Jalen Watson, and Brian Cook.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: Uh and as well as Brian Cook's a big out.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, as well as Mahomes rehabbing his injury, uh wide receiver Rashi Rice is also coming back from injury.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: So uh yes, um could be a long way back for them, Pete.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Um I agree they should never be counted out.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Uh heaven forbid anyone counts uh Mahomes' team out, but uh I I've got a feeling it's gonna be somewhere in between six and eleven and eleven and six and not quite eleven and six.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: I have a feeling that opposing teams are really gonna try to hit that pass rush because Mahomes won't be as squirrely as he was before the injury, and he'll need to get his passes out much quicker.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: His reaction time's gonna have to be much quicker because I think people are gonna know that and they'll be targeting it.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: And and that happens when you see a a quarterback with a weak shoulder or a weak knee or something who's coming back from those major injuries.
- 26:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and that's a really good point, Chris.
- 26:32SPEAKER_04: I I think that's part of the reason they they actually went hunting for Kenneth Walker the third.
- 26:37SPEAKER_04: Because if you can establish that running game, then it's a brave team that th that will keep committing to trying to get to him when a guy can just sloss you open and run for 150, 160 yards a game.
- 26:48SPEAKER_04: So it's uh again, first game of the season is going to be fascinating for all of these teams.
- 26:52SPEAKER_04: I think for Bonex and and Patrick Mahomes, especially because people will be looking to see if they've overcome these long-term injuries.
- 27:00SPEAKER_04: And if you watch quarterback, uh Mahomes is a very determined young man, but he's obviously you know can be his own worst enemy, uh wanting to come back or play when when things aren't working um as well as they should.
- 27:14SPEAKER_04: So we'll see.
- 27:15SPEAKER_04: I'll I'll just say sorry, Kerry, you go.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: No, I was just gonna say, and and you're right, it can be his worst uh hi he can be his own worst enemy, but I think we have to acknowledge that he's creeping up in age when it comes to um quarterbacks who are as as traditionally athletic as he's been.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Um if he was just a straight drop back passer, you'd be like, nah, that's not it.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: But he is um, you know, the perennial um I'll scramble to get all the uh time and um yards that I can.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: And I think that he's gotta acknowledge and this injury will probably help him change to be maybe the new Mahomes uh for this year.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: But let's see.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: Let's let's see what happens.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: I still think he's got a devastatingly good arm and shoulder.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: He can snap things quick and fast.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: A lot of his passes are really fast as well.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: And I think he'll have to lean on um that strength uh even more and more instead of his his his legs as much.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, we'll see what uh what happens because you know, like we saw in quarterback, he's quite determined.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: He's you know one of the hardest workers you'll see.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: So, you know, to be continued.
- 28:29SPEAKER_04: Okay, so Jens, uh let me let me w press you one question.
- 28:33SPEAKER_04: Who's winning the division?
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: That's a tough one.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: I I think the I'm thinking the Broncos could surprise people and pull it out.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: I like a bold show, Chris.
- 28:43SPEAKER_04: I love a bold show.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: It's mostly because they've still they've still got traditionally really good defense as well.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: Matt's a really coin flip between the Broncos and the Chargers.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: That wasn't the question.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Who's winning the division?
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Either the Broncos or the Chargers.
- 28:59SPEAKER_04: Come on, ask me again the third time.
- 29:01SPEAKER_04: Go on.
- 29:01SPEAKER_04: Take those splinters out of your ass and give me one team to win the division.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Kerry.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: Look, yeah, I'm gonna have to stick with the Broncos.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: I I think the um Chiefs will be a close second.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: I think the Chargers will fall back just a bit, and the Raiders will um do a better showing this year, but still end up in the same place.
- 29:23SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 29:24SPEAKER_04: Uh uh personally, I think the Chiefs are gonna win it.
- 29:27SPEAKER_04: I think they'll win the win the division.
- 29:29SPEAKER_04: Uh I think the Raiders will finish bottom, but I think they'll be more of a uh eight and nine team than they will be a six and eleven team as well.
- 29:39SPEAKER_04: I mean um give kudos to Matt for his uh Raiders overview without using the term Roy Rogers once.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: Well done.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: I mean the AFC West has been the strongest AFC division for uh for a number of years as well.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: So highly competitive, like the NFC West as well.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: The Raiders loser's schedule is really tough.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: What those uh winners' schedules look like.
- 30:03SPEAKER_04: Um but we've both been there, Matt, as long-term uh fans of teams that lost a lot during the eighties and the nineties and the thousands.
- 30:12SPEAKER_04: But uh the loser schedule still includes uh three of the best teams in the NFC.
- 30:17SPEAKER_04: So you still you just can't get away from it.
- 30:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 30:20SPEAKER_04: Anyway, on that bombshell, let's move east.
- 30:25SPEAKER_04: Get a bit warmer.
- 30:26SPEAKER_04: Does it get a bit warmer?
- 30:28SPEAKER_04: It probably gets a bit colder, doesn't it?
- 30:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: Talking Miami is the is the warm part of it.
- 30:36SPEAKER_04: So Chris, we brought you on here to talk about your team.
- 30:39SPEAKER_04: Um and I've got a big take on your team.
- 30:42SPEAKER_04: Um you'll realize Kerry and Matt don't often have big takes.
- 30:45SPEAKER_04: They tend to be very conservative, sit on the fence.
- 30:48SPEAKER_04: Um but I'll tell you what my big take is once you've given your overview for the season.
- 30:54SPEAKER_04: So Chris.
- 30:55SPEAKER_04: So I'll go first?
- 30:56SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 30:56SPEAKER_04: Yes, please.
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: Tell us about New England.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: It's it's ridiculous to think they'll make the Super Bowl again.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: Uh they do have a a harder schedule this year than they do, and nothing highlights that more than the first game of the season against the Seahawks, so the Super Bowl rematch is coming up straight out of the gate.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: It's crazy.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: Which is which is the thing you you really don't want.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: I mean Yeah.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: Uh but it's gonna be interesting to see how they behave with outside noise penetrating into the past the front office into the playing group.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Because the whole Vrabel situation, while it seemed to have swept under the under the mar under the rug a little bit, and then they got into, oh yeah, I was at Taylor's wedding and that sort of stuff, that that stuff is is the thing that's going to plant a potential poisonous seed of just double checking over their shoulders about every media outlet that's coming by and everything that's checking, and could pull the focus from this team away from what they can do.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: I think um they really had to try to go out and try to get some more pass protection um for for Drake May.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: Um and then some interesting acquisitions during the off-season.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: Obviously, the AJ Brown of it all.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: I hope that doesn't turn out like the Zeke Elliott um trial that we had.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: You know, he was there for a bit, very big.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: But I think what's going to be interesting is people working out Vrabel system after such a such a big season, and a system where yes, we did have a very easy-on schedule, so that system was able to play almost like some training games against some of the lesser teams, which really exposes the tactics a bit more than when you come up against tougher opposition where you have to um be a bit more creative and and improvise on during the game from quarter to quarter.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: Um I think we're gonna be might not win the division um against the Bills.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be a coin flip to see, and we I probably won't know that until after about week two or three to see how consistent the Patriots can be.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: But I I do think they are still gonna be in the playoffs.
- 33:05SPEAKER_04: You uh you didn't mention uh one of my favorite uh packers of all time, Romeo Dobbs.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: No, and I didn't mention Kevin Bayard the third as well.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah for for reasons.
- 33:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's a reason for not mentioning him.
- 33:17SPEAKER_04: Uh look, I th I think Romeo Dobbs will help, but uh my big shout is I don't think you'll make the playoffs.
- 33:22SPEAKER_04: I don't think New England will make the playoffs this year.
- 33:25SPEAKER_04: I don't think I think their winner schedule is uh is too strong for them.
- 33:31SPEAKER_04: You've got to pay the bills twice.
- 33:33SPEAKER_04: Um although I have another big shout out.
- 33:35SPEAKER_04: We always do, that's the divisional.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 33:38SPEAKER_04: So let look got to push you like the other guys.
- 33:40SPEAKER_04: What's their record gonna be?
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: I reckon I reckon eleven and six would be would be a good a good pass for them.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: I do see them dropping some games that they probably think they should be winning as well.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: Um but it's funny, even though the Jets and the I mean the Dolphins are gonna be interesting in this division because they're kind of in that one of the few teams in that big rebuild stage and in that unknown side of things, they've been known to pull a bit of a swifty on the uh the New England Patriots and actually get a win out of one of their two divisional games.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: So that's gonna be an interesting part.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: And we've we've got a travel game in Germany this year as well.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: So that the Patriots haven't traditionally performed that well on the European travel schedule.
- 34:28SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 34:29SPEAKER_04: I mean it it it's it's not a bad decision, uh division to be in when you get to play the Jets and the Dolphins twice.
- 34:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:39SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: Okay, well, speaking of the Dolphins, then um Kerry, tell us about the Dolphins.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Uh the Dolphins are again a hard one because they are a uh uh another reset, right?
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: So if you look at what the Dolphins have really done as far as the offseason, it's make uh a big move in coaching change.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: So um Pete from your uh backyard from uh the Green Bay Packers, uh the defensive coordinator, um gets an opportunity to to do the thing and be uh at the front office.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: So um uh Jeff Hafley um is now running the show.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Yes, just making sure I get it right, is now running the show there, and I think that's really the big news.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: Um comes with a new mindset, um, lots of history and um obviously defensive coordination, has a great college background as well.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: And I think the um the hope is that there's some new energy in life into the team because of that.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: Uh when we talk about other moves, uh we're really talking about uh uh a team that's really focused on culture.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: They did a lot of uh acquisitions when it comes to younger players uh in the draft because they could, uh, and um given where they finished.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: Uh but as far as major contracts, we've got uh uh Linebacker signing, three years, uh Jordan Brooks, um uh 17 million uh approximately, um Aaron Brewer, um a center, uh another 17 million, and then a running back, um uh uh and uh uh uh a chain uh or unchain or whatever happened.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: It's easy for you to say.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: Devon a chain.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Uh 16 million per year.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: So um did some shoring up of some of their veterans and making sure that they've got a uh line that is going to hold up.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: So those were the big, big moves.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: Uh I will skip right to where we think they will finish because I think there is not much mystery there.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: They will finish ahead of the Jets, but um below the Bills and the Patriots.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's uh, you know, as much exuberance as you can muster.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: I think they're still gonna struggle.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a um, you know, new offense, a new mindset.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: Everything is changing.
- 37:17SPEAKER_00: So I am, you know, giving them uh about the same number of wins, maybe six wins this year, so maybe just a little bit less.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: And it's just because of all of the new um aspects.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, will they finish ahead of the Jets?
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: I still think so, but um, you know, uh not much in my eyes.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: And that's a quick round on the Dolphins.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: So so uh Malik Willis is gonna prove whether he's an elite quarterback or not, or not just a good backup to uh the greatest quarterback in the league, uh Jordan Love at the moment.
- 37:54SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 37:55SPEAKER_04: So so we'll we'll f we'll find that out.
- 37:58SPEAKER_04: Uh uh I think you're being very um unoptimistic for the Dolphins.
- 38:02SPEAKER_04: I think they've made some really smart moves.
- 38:05SPEAKER_04: I think they're hoping to finish more eight and nine than they are six and eleven, but uh but we'll see.
- 38:11SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 38:12SPEAKER_04: You've got written it down now.
- 38:13SPEAKER_04: We're gonna come back to this at the end of the season, don't worry.
- 38:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's it's in pen as well.
- 38:19SPEAKER_04: Not pencil, it's in pen.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: So uh well, Matt, let's uh whilst we all pretend to choke on something, uh will you go to the perennial chokers?
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: Um, before I start on them, there are two comments with uh Huffley and uh Willis, the Miami Dolphins should this season be known as the Timu Green Bay Packers.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, very good.
- 38:51SPEAKER_04: So says the man from the Gary Bears.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: In terms of your migrable controversy, Chris, he's already had a um training camp spat with AJ Brown when uh he he calls it out in front of the team for not um hauling in a one-handed catch.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: Um so um that's gonna be an interesting one to watch, as you said, keeping an eye on controversy with the Patriots this season could be uh a full-time gig.
- 39:21SPEAKER_04: That's probably because A.J.
- 39:22SPEAKER_04: Brown was flipping in the bird with the other hand, right?
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Which which which brings me back to my Zeke Elliott experiment situation.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: Ego's giving the wave uh stuff, too.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: AJ's got form pouring out with head coaches, doesn't he?
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go on to the Buffalo Bills.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Uh last season they finished with a 12-5 record, finishing second in the AFC East.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: Um, they fired their head coach Sean McDermott, who'd been um in the position for nine years after their divisional round overtime loss to the Denver Broncos, and in his place promoted offensive coordinator and best friend of Josh Allen, Joe Brady.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: Um, Joe will be the youngest head coach in the league this season at the age of 36.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: Um, he'll be working alongside Brandon Bean, who we've heard from uh Chris from Buffalo about extensively.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: He enters his tenth year um as general manager, and to the um befuddlement of many, he retained his job through the controversy of the coaching change, um, as well as a new head coach.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: The Buffalo Bills have three new coordinators.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: Their new offensive coordinator is Pete Carmichael, their new defensive coordinator is Jim Leonard, and their new special teams um coach is Jeff Rogers.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: Um they've also added 71-year-old ex-head coach John Fox, who was good at the Broncos and dreadful at the Bears, as a senior assistant to mentor uh Brady.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: Um in terms of their draft picks, Chris spoke extensively about this.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: McKund also um uh mentioned his annoyance at them trading back constantly.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Really, the two players to mention um uh of note are TJ Parker and Edge Russia.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: They picked up with the 35th pick in round two after trading back out of the first round.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: I think they originally had picks 26, moved to pick 28, and ended up at um selecting Parker at pick 35.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: And Davidson Igbeneson, a corner out of Ohio State, who was selected number 62, he's seen as a physical press corner, um, and has started 53 games in his college career.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: So look for Davison to step in quickly.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: In terms of free agency, the Bills did go to work, put in some uh weaponry um at Josh's disposal.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: They signed DJ Moore, former bear, um, in free agency, and DJ immediately restructured his deal to an unbelievably bargain 6.75 million.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: Um, so you know, for all of the criticism of Brandon Bean, um DJ Moore has done a solid and the team have have uh done exceptionally well to get him uh restructured in at 6.75 cap hit for the 2026 season.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: They spent more lavishly elsewhere, signing edge rusher Bradley Chubb, 43.5 million over three.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: D.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Olford, a cornerback, again, a theme here, 15.75 over three from Atlanta.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: They also signed backup corner, CJ Gardner Johnson, away from the Bears, um six million over one year.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: Um, the 2026 season will see uh the Buffalo Bills move to the new High Mark Stadium with the uh previous stadium being demolished after the culmination of the 2025 season.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: The Bills we chase in their eighth straight winning season.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: Um Josh Allen has also restructured his deal um to provide for the 2026 cap relief.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: In the preseason, they'll play the Panthers, the Browns, and the Steelers.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Um they have a buy-in week seven, and their high mark stadium opener is week two against the Detroit Lions, the first of three consecutive home games.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: So they are on the road to the Texans, then play the Lions, Chargers, and Patriots for an absolutely blockbusting first four weeks of the season.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: Um, eight home games, nine away.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: I have them down as twelve and five again.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: Twelve and five.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: I think of all the quarterbacks.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: The Bills have not lost anyone on offense and they've added uh DJ Moore.
- 44:16SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: We know can deliver.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: And they've also clearly appointed a head coach who Josh Allen is very comfortable with.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: I um I don't think there's any chance Josh Allen is asking for a trade.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: And I just think the Bills have got the firepower to outscore almost any team in the league.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: So I think the Bills go as Josh goes.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: It'll be an interesting season with a new DC and seeing how Jim Leonard goes.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: But I think the Bills potentially have a sense that if it comes down to a shootout, they'll back themselves.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: As long as they don't leak points on the other side of the ball.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: As good as your offense is, we know that defenses have absolutely dominated the last couple of years, and Seattle proved that in the Super Bowl.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: Agreed.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: Very good.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: Dallas proved it as far as how bad you can be on the U.S.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: Every season since 2016.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: Very good.
- 45:16SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 45:17SPEAKER_04: Well, let's move on to the real underdogs in the division, and that is the New York Jets, who have undergone a massive overhaul.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: The glorious return of Gino.
- 45:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:28SPEAKER_04: Aaron Glenn, uh head coach and and General General March and Darren Moogie or Moohi, I don't know how you pronounce that.
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: That uh looking for a young, upcoming team, with the exception of Gino Smith.
- 45:43SPEAKER_04: Um I think uh they're trying to do a little bit what the Raiders are doing, because uh rookie K Klubnick is expected to take uh the number two position, and we may even see him taking snaps towards the end of the season.
- 45:57SPEAKER_04: Uh they've gone for a veteran quarterback.
- 46:00SPEAKER_04: I think that's because they have a very young young team.
- 46:03SPEAKER_04: Uh Brees Hall is expected to be the focal point of their office from a running back.
- 46:07SPEAKER_04: Um, and there's also Braylon Allen, who's a very good short yardage runner.
- 46:13SPEAKER_04: Um Garrett Wilson is still there, uh Dona Mitchell is still there.
- 46:17SPEAKER_04: Um they've got uh now Mason Tyler, uh, who's a good tight end, um, along with a rookie Kenyon Sadiq.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: So you might see them run more two tight end formations than they have done in the past.
- 46:28SPEAKER_04: It's uh it's gonna be it's gonna be an interesting year.
- 46:33SPEAKER_04: They've got some edge rushers now.
- 46:34SPEAKER_04: They drafted fairly well.
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: They they scored a good good grade in the drafts.
- 46:39SPEAKER_04: They've got Wil William McDonald I fourth is an edge rusher.
- 46:41SPEAKER_04: They've got David Bailey, who's a rookie pass rusher, uh Quincy Williams and Nashon Wright are there.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: The biggest uh objective I think they've got this year, though, and and I'm gonna throw an unbelievable stat at you now, gentlemen.
- 46:56SPEAKER_04: Zero interceptions last year.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 46:59SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: Zero interceptions.
- 47:02SPEAKER_04: So they have to, have to improve their takeaways.
- 47:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: Nothing nationwide had six last year with the Bears, so yeah, that'll be why they've spent money on him.
- 47:12SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 47:13SPEAKER_04: Um So the big question marks will obviously be around Geno Smith.
- 47:17SPEAKER_04: Can he elevate the offense?
- 47:19SPEAKER_04: Can the offensive line protect him enough to allow him to play his game?
- 47:25SPEAKER_04: Uh he comes with the tag of 35-year-old.
- 47:28SPEAKER_04: Um I should pick Matt up for not giving Pete Carroll his official title, which is now 73-year-old, Pete Carroll, earlier in the in in the recording.
- 47:37SPEAKER_04: Um where do I think they'll finish?
- 47:39SPEAKER_04: I'm going for seven and ten.
- 47:41SPEAKER_04: I think they're gonna finish above the Dolphins this year.
- 47:45SPEAKER_04: So um I think a seven and ten season would be seen as something that's very good for them.
- 47:50SPEAKER_04: Um they've got no chance of making the playoffs.
- 47:53SPEAKER_04: But if they can get a solid seven and ten season, I think they've got the basis to move on and start um thinking about how to challenge the Patriots.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: It'll be interesting to see how how Gino goes with having been under Pete Carroll for a few seasons, what he's learnt from that experience and how he performs back at the Jets.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: And again, Chris, I have to pull you up.
- 48:13SPEAKER_04: It's 73-year-old Pete Carroll has to give him his proper title.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm gonna you kind of um tipped my hand a little bit here because I was just gonna read you the one paragraph uh athletic pre-season summary, and it says, What's new?
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: The early bird special.
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: I will explain.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Coach Aaron Glenn's team is going to be eating dinner at 5 30 pm before the old guys have their same.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: The Jets offseason hasn't exactly screened planning for the future after they brought in DiMario Davis, 37, Gino Smith, 35, David Onyamata, 33, Tim Patrick, 32, and Minka Fitzpatrick 29.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Glenn must know he has to win now, or there is no future for him.
- 49:01SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: Carl.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to be too ageist, because I know I was going to hear the Jets hard with uh with all of that nonsense.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: So Very good.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: So so before we wrap up then, gents, who's winning this division?
- 49:17SPEAKER_05: The AFC East or the the Bills.
- 49:20SPEAKER_05: Matt.
- 49:21SPEAKER_05: Bills.
- 49:23SPEAKER_05: Kerry.
- 49:24SPEAKER_05: Are you muted?
- 49:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:27SPEAKER_05: Bills.
- 49:28SPEAKER_05: I can't see it.
- 49:30SPEAKER_06: Oh no.
- 49:32SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 49:32SPEAKER_06: Hang on.
- 49:33SPEAKER_04: I'm asked I'm asking a serious question, Kerry.
- 49:35SPEAKER_04: We're gonna look back at this.
- 49:38SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: Hey, I I know and uh Chris knows in his heart that uh that the the Patriots will be there.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: So this is the Bills are always gonna be nearby, but you know, they didn't make enough moves for me, so I think it's just gonna be um the same old.
- 49:58SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 49:58SPEAKER_04: Well, uh I would happily go for bills bills one and done in the playoffs.
- 50:02SPEAKER_04: Um I I can see that.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: Man alive.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: Uh Patriots aren't even making the playoffs this year, Kerry K.
- 50:09SPEAKER_04: We're gonna look back at this at the end of the season, and it's either gonna be egg all over our faces uh uh and you standing tall, but um no.
- 50:20SPEAKER_04: They learned a lot that is not their loss.
- 50:23SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 50:24SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 50:25SPEAKER_04: Well, gentlemen, thank you for your time this evening.
- 50:28SPEAKER_04: Uh next week we'll look at the AFC North and South and and uh give the same kind of in-depth uh analysis that we've done uh over the course of the last hour.
- 50:39SPEAKER_04: Uh Chris, thanks for joining us.
- 50:40SPEAKER_04: Uh getting your insight on New England is always good.
- 50:43SPEAKER_04: And we will probably uh invite you back after Seattle have seen two of them in the first game of the season to see how you're feeling.
- 50:52SPEAKER_04: And uh and we'll take it from there.
- 50:54SPEAKER_04: But for tonight, uh on the bombshell that uh the Jets aren't as young as I thought they were, we will uh we will move on to next week.
- 51:02SPEAKER_04: Uh say goodbye, everybody.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 51:05SPEAKER_04: See you later, boys.
