- 0:00What if the most meaningful thing you can do today is simply listen to what
- 0:03truly nourishes your heart and family?
- 0:07Hey everyone, welcome back to the Couples Journey blog series podcast.
- 0:12We're on part four of Stepping Off the Hamster Wheel series.
- 0:16In this episode, Annie will share how like Mary, we're reminded to prioritize
- 0:20connection and spiritual growth over the busyness that often distracts us from what matters most.
- 0:27Stay with us as we explore how to nurture your soul and your loved ones amid
- 0:31life's chaos. Here's Annie.
- 0:36Fellow wives, we might think of many lessons and ways to apply the story of Martha and Mary.
- 0:42But if we keep ourselves grounded in our role as wives and mothers,
- 0:47as noted in the Bible, we can simply remember to focus on what truly nourishes
- 0:52the hearts and our families.
- 0:55As a wife or mother, it's helpful for me to remember that caring for our husband
- 1:00and children involves more than just managing chores and responsibilities.
- 1:06It's also about nurturing their hearts and souls.
- 1:09And let's be honest, today's social media streams often promote a definition
- 1:15of a busy wife and mother that can feel overwhelming.
- 1:19Like Mary, who chose the one thing, listening to Jesus.
- 1:24We should be encouraged to prioritize deep, meaningful, spiritual,
- 1:30and emotional connections with our loved ones over the busyness that distracts
- 1:35us from what truly matters.
- 1:38The best way we can listen to God is by grounding ourselves in His Word,
- 1:43taking time to reflect, meditate, and strengthen our connection with the Holy Spirit.
- 1:48We can't fully understand God's message for us if we're constantly connected
- 1:54to the noise and distractions of today's world, especially screens,
- 1:59social media, entertainment, or endless scrolling.
- 2:04Relying solely on resources like Bible study guides or this devotional book
- 2:09isn't wrong, but we must remember to read and seek God's Word organically.
- 2:16Let's make it a priority to listen to Him directly, asking for His guidance
- 2:21and experiencing His presence as we dive deeper into His Word,
- 2:26not just influenced by what others write or teach.
- 2:30It's only through God's wisdom that we can strike a balance,
- 2:35being wise with a compassionate heart.
- 2:38Looking again at Martha and Mary, here are some key takeaways.
- 2:431. Balance tasks with heart. While caring for our family involves many responsibilities,
- 2:50don't neglect spiritual and emotional nourishment, moments of love, listening, and prayer.
- 2:572. Prioritize connection. Make space for quality time and meaningful conversations
- 3:03with your husband and children, fostering love and trust. 3.
- 3:08Avoid over-worry and over-commitment. Like Martha, it's easy to become overwhelmed with tasks.
- 3:17Remember, your presence, care, and spiritual focus are more valuable than striving
- 3:23for perfection in choice. 4.
- 3:26Model faith and grace. Show your family the importance of faith,
- 3:32prayer, and reliance on God.
- 3:34Teaching by example that the one necessary thing is knowing Jesus.
- 3:39If you have other ideas, feel free to add them.
- 3:43With God's grace, ask the Holy Spirit to humble your heart and help turn these
- 3:48lessons into practical actions.
- 3:50Here are some ideas to consider. 1.
- 3:54Set aside special times for family devotions, prayer, or heartfelt conversations.
- 4:002. Simplify daily routines where possible to free time for connection and spiritual growth. 3.
- 4:08Create a peaceful environment where faith and love are prioritized above the busyness of life.
- 4:15We need to develop spiritual habits that nourish our relationship with Jesus
- 4:20Christ, because only through Him can we truly fulfill our roles while listening
- 4:25to His messages of guidance and encouragement through His promises.
- 4:30Fellow wives and mothers, let's be intentional about slowing down,
- 4:36nurturing our souls and relationships, and remembering that the most lasting
- 4:41impact comes from prioritizing what truly feeds our hearts, the love of God, and our family.
- 4:48But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
- 4:54So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will care for itself.
- 4:59Each day has enough trouble of its own.
- 5:02Matthew 6, verses 33-34.
