- 1:09Speaker 1: show with an anthem. I love to start in a
- 1:12Speaker 1: show with an anthem.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I was watching Back to the Future the other day.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It just popped up randomly and zz top came on
- 1:22Speaker 1: and I thought there must be one there that I
- 1:23Speaker 1: can play to start the sports show. So yes, I'll
- 1:27Speaker 1: come up with this one. Sit back, put your feet
- 1:29Speaker 1: up on this miserable lunchtime and listen to zz top
- 1:34Speaker 1: and give me all your loving. So give me all
- 2:13Speaker 1: your love n zz another great track to start a
- 2:21Speaker 1: service sports show here at Radio Folks Then, and apart
- 2:25Speaker 1: from Back to the Future type song, it also reminds
- 2:27Speaker 1: me of a couple of years ago. We did a
- 2:30Speaker 1: fundraiser down in Boovery Square and you might remember it.
- 2:35Speaker 1: We actually got somebody did not me personally, but we
- 2:39Speaker 1: got the one of the DeLorean cars, the look alikes,
- 2:43Speaker 1: but it was a really, really great replica. And that
- 2:47Speaker 1: came down and we had Paul Reynolds banging out the
- 2:49Speaker 1: tunes with his DJ stuff, and we had a special
- 2:53Speaker 1: guests of Marylyn Bone Jelly came in and what great
- 2:56Speaker 1: group they are. They're making a real name for themselves locally.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And as me to enter into the spirit of things,
- 3:04Speaker 1: I got myself. I said, I've got a white sort
- 3:06Speaker 1: of doctor's coat. I got a bald headed wig with
- 3:10Speaker 1: like scary white hair sticking out all over the place.
- 3:14Speaker 1: And I was going around pointing at my watch and
- 3:18Speaker 1: looking at the time all the time as dressed up
- 3:21Speaker 1: as the dock and loads of people. Well thankfully not
- 3:25Speaker 1: many people recognized me, but they all wanted their picture
- 3:27Speaker 1: done with me. But anyway, that was great. That was
- 3:29Speaker 1: a great Saturday morning down at Brewery Square with doing
- 3:32Speaker 1: a fundraiser. Okay, so let's take a look at last
- 3:35Speaker 1: Saturday's local crickets course Folks from first eleven beat Leeds
- 3:38Speaker 1: and Broomfield in a game that was a rain adjusted
- 3:41Speaker 1: by the umpires. Folks do On batted first and made
- 3:44Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty eight in forty eight point five overs.
- 3:48Speaker 1: The rains must have then come down as Leeds were
- 3:50Speaker 1: set a target of one hundred and twenty seven in
- 3:53Speaker 1: forty two overs but only managed one hundred and eighteen
- 3:56Speaker 1: all out, so Folks then won the game by eight runs.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Today is an away fixture as Folks then traveled to Dartford.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Hawkins were away to Betsanger then put Betsanger into bat
- 4:08Speaker 1: which they thought must have paid off as they bowled
- 4:11Speaker 1: them all out for just eighty seven runs. Now, I
- 4:13Speaker 1: don't know what happened, but it looks like all of
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Hawkings teams seem to have a bad day and
- 4:18Speaker 1: could only manage sixty two runs, not like them, and
- 4:22Speaker 1: they lost the game by twenty five runs. However, they
- 4:25Speaker 1: do remain top, but they need to pull their socks
- 4:28Speaker 1: up and bounce back this week as they face second
- 4:31Speaker 1: place deal Victoria and Barnes close. Hie batted batted first
- 4:37Speaker 1: away at Willsborough and made two hundred and eight for
- 4:40Speaker 1: four They then bowled Willsborough out for one hundred and
- 4:42Speaker 1: thirty eight, so winning the game by seventy runs. This
- 4:45Speaker 1: week High they're at home to Ash Cricket Club, So Ash,
- 4:50Speaker 1: that's them. They come from near Sandwich. They're down there
- 4:52Speaker 1: by the old Pfizers building, that sort of area named
- 4:56Speaker 1: the derby game at Saltwood Hive. Green won the toss
- 5:00Speaker 1: bat and made one hundred and fifty four to nine
- 5:02Speaker 1: in their forty overs Silward but then made the one
- 5:05Speaker 1: hundred and fifty five necessary, winning the game by one wicket.
- 5:09Speaker 1: That must have been a close one. This Saturday, the
- 5:12Speaker 1: Green are at home to Edgerton and Siltword are away
- 5:15Speaker 1: to Nelson Cricket Club, which means a trip over to Thannet.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Sipton Park traveled away to Offham in West morling Batch
- 5:23Speaker 1: at first that made one hundred and fifty one all out.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They then bowled off them out for one hundred and
- 5:27Speaker 1: forty five so won the game by just six runs,
- 5:30Speaker 1: which isn't much in local cricket is it? Six runs?
- 5:33Speaker 1: This week the Sibs are at home to Mers and Sports.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Now I've just looked out the window and I got
- 5:39Speaker 1: caught earlier in a downpour, just come out and between
- 5:43Speaker 1: the car and the radio station, I got soaking. We've
- 5:46Speaker 1: got a couple of days of storms apparently. Sometimes we're
- 5:50Speaker 1: down here in the very south of Kent. We do
- 5:52Speaker 1: kind of get away with it, don't we. But the
- 5:55Speaker 1: weather looks predicted for okay, for Saturday, so we might
- 5:59Speaker 1: actually get a good afternoon's cricket coming up. Okay, So
- 6:04Speaker 1: the next song is in there. In a few weeks time,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I should be joined by Amy Stimpson from the Storry
- 6:10Speaker 1: from the South Kent Harriers. But she does put on
- 6:13Speaker 1: the Dover Waterfront Park Run. That's it, and they're coming
- 6:18Speaker 1: up for their second birthday. And we're also going to
- 6:20Speaker 1: be joined on the same day by a lovely girl
- 6:23Speaker 1: called Summer. Now, Summer is a cancer survivor and she's
- 6:27Speaker 1: trying to raise awareness of cancer and she's doing a little,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I don't know, a little event within the Waterfront Park
- 6:36Speaker 1: Run and she's going to be down there and trying
- 6:39Speaker 1: to just make awareness of cancer. And so anyway, she's
- 6:43Speaker 1: coming in. I don't know too much about it at
- 6:44Speaker 1: the moment. Summer and Amy are coming in. But when
- 6:50Speaker 1: the Dover Park Run had their very first celebration their
- 6:53Speaker 1: first birthday. We had a little warm up and I thought,
- 6:56Speaker 1: I dig this song out again, and We're always to
- 6:59Speaker 1: have another walmup when I'm sure what the track is
- 7:01Speaker 1: going to be. But last year we're talking to Amy
- 7:04Speaker 1: during the week and this just reminded me of this
- 7:06Speaker 1: song and this is cooling the gang and celebration. Roan
- 7:36Speaker 1: Adams nineteen ninety six. Only thing that looks good on
- 7:44Speaker 1: me is you okay? Sunday morning saw me on the
- 7:52Speaker 1: mic at the Deal with the forty third Deal ten
- 7:55Speaker 1: K Now his nickname is the Dinosaur ten K after
- 7:59Speaker 1: former found member of the Deal tri Club Roger Francis Darby,
- 8:03Speaker 1: who sadly passed away in the year two thousand of
- 8:05Speaker 1: skin cancer and always referred to himself as an old Dinosaur. Consequently,
- 8:10Speaker 1: a considerable percentage of the profits or donated to the
- 8:14Speaker 1: East Kent Hospital's University Trust Dermatology department. So what a
- 8:18Speaker 1: great gesture from the club to remember Roger in a
- 8:22Speaker 1: way that he likes with the running and to help
- 8:25Speaker 1: support the dermatology department at the hospital. Well, the day
- 8:29Speaker 1: was pretty fresh and I know the rain stayed away,
- 8:30Speaker 1: but it's always on the coast. If there's a wind,
- 8:33Speaker 1: isn't there you've got to run one way with it
- 8:35Speaker 1: or one way against it. The junior race started at
- 8:38Speaker 1: nine point thirty with sixty one children. Was a lovely
- 8:41Speaker 1: sight to see. Actually it always gets the mums and
- 8:45Speaker 1: dads going and the spectators cheering just and the kids
- 8:48Speaker 1: love it, absolutely love it. But you always get one,
- 8:51Speaker 1: don't you. I don't like running, mummy, I don't want
- 8:54Speaker 1: to be here. I want to go home. But it
- 8:56Speaker 1: was a good fun day. It was out and back
- 8:59Speaker 1: fifteen hundre me a distance. First boy in in five
- 9:03Speaker 1: minutes thirty eight seconds was Charlie from Whitecliffe's Athletics and
- 9:06Speaker 1: Running Club and the first girl home in sixth place
- 9:09Speaker 1: was Jallia in six minutes twenty four seconds. Now the
- 9:14Speaker 1: signor A started at ten o'clock with two hundred and
- 9:16Speaker 1: thirty eight runners taking part Home Club Deal Try runner
- 9:20Speaker 1: Toby Smith was declared the winner in a time of
- 9:23Speaker 1: thirty three minutes thirty seven seconds and first lady home
- 9:26Speaker 1: was Erin Malloy from Orion Harriers. Now I to look
- 9:29Speaker 1: this one up. I didn't know where it was, but
- 9:31Speaker 1: it's in Wartham Forest in Essex and her time was
- 9:34Speaker 1: forty three minutes and three seconds. Now, there was a
- 9:38Speaker 1: distinct lack of folks and runners there today. I think
- 9:40Speaker 1: they might ever must have had a day off or
- 9:42Speaker 1: targeted another race. But there were ten South Kent Harriers
- 9:45Speaker 1: took part and with notable performances from Ian Major who
- 9:49Speaker 1: was first over sixty mail in forty three minutes thirty
- 9:52Speaker 1: five seconds and Mike Hayley who's been seems to have
- 9:55Speaker 1: been running forever. Mike, he was the first over seventies
- 9:58Speaker 1: male in a time of it was a splendid time
- 10:01Speaker 1: forty eight minutes twenty three seconds, So well done to
- 10:04Speaker 1: you two. Now. The other eight harriers that took part
- 10:07Speaker 1: were Andrew Davey, Lana Wright, Jenny Spillane, Nikola Joyce, John Sweeney,
- 10:13Speaker 1: Ian Thomason and former guests of the show Ellie Curran.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And it was nice to see Barbara Hunt there cheering
- 10:20Speaker 1: them all in. So it was a good day. It
- 10:22Speaker 1: was a good fun day and they are a lovely club.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I do like working with deal Try Club and they
- 10:27Speaker 1: do they do so much in the community. It was
- 10:30Speaker 1: Carnival week, you know, and it was just like the
- 10:33Speaker 1: start of the Carnival week is sitting Stone this one
- 10:36Speaker 1: and it was a good turnout. There was a few
- 10:39Speaker 1: There was another club there. Where did she come from?
- 10:41Speaker 1: There was a lady came down from Coventry. She was
- 10:45Speaker 1: a very very good runner, do you know what. I
- 10:48Speaker 1: can't remember the name of the club, but I did
- 10:49Speaker 1: ask her to come over and tell me where she
- 10:51Speaker 1: came from. She came down for the weekend to see
- 10:54Speaker 1: her mum and had a race as well. So now
- 10:58Speaker 1: that was the That was my Sunday, and there must
- 11:01Speaker 1: have been the sunday before that. It was wathering Heat's day.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Now did you go down there? Did you dress up
- 11:09Speaker 1: in red? And that's just the fellas well. Me and
- 11:12Speaker 1: missus Ferrett. We went down there, down to Harbor Arm
- 11:14Speaker 1: on the first session. We chose the wrong one, I
- 11:17Speaker 1: tell you. We went down and the weather wasn't nice
- 11:20Speaker 1: at all, but there must have been a thousand people
- 11:23Speaker 1: dressed in red wathering away and it really was a spectacle.
- 11:29Speaker 1: There was one single paddle boarder out there. I think
- 11:32Speaker 1: he was a photographer, but he was joining in as well.
- 11:36Speaker 1: And then we went home got soaking wet. But it
- 11:39Speaker 1: turned out that the people that went down for the
- 11:41Speaker 1: afternoon had a splendid day. The sun was out. You know,
- 11:45Speaker 1: it looked so much I don't know, much more fun
- 11:49Speaker 1: if you like, everything that you do in this country
- 11:51Speaker 1: needs the hot weather, doesn't it. It needs a bit of sunshine.
- 11:54Speaker 1: And the people that did it in the afternoon were really,
- 11:57Speaker 1: really luky, like they was enjoying ourselves. And there was
- 12:00Speaker 1: been loads and loads of clips on social media and
- 12:03Speaker 1: even on the ITV news. I'll see you a few
- 12:06Speaker 1: embarrassing pictures of people dancing and if you like, not
- 12:12Speaker 1: in tune, but it didn't matter. It didn't matter. He
- 12:15Speaker 1: tried to learn the dance, but if you went wrong,
- 12:17Speaker 1: it just did not matter. So I've been trying to
- 12:21Speaker 1: play this song for a little while now, so I've
- 12:23Speaker 1: got an excuse. And so here we go, taking you
- 12:26Speaker 1: back to that rainy, sunny day, back on the Harbor arm.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Here's Kate Bush and Wuthering Heights, when like, Okay, Bush,
- 13:03Speaker 1: there are you at your desk in the office, heard
- 13:08Speaker 1: this song and you just got to get up and
- 13:10Speaker 1: do the dance. I think that's how it gets you.
- 13:17Speaker 1: You know, if you're at home, you're you're practicing. And
- 13:21Speaker 1: I will say fair play to the lot that we're
- 13:23Speaker 1: dancing in the rain and we we stuck it out
- 13:27Speaker 1: as well, you know. But they did the first one
- 13:29Speaker 1: and there was a massive cheer and it was pouring
- 13:31Speaker 1: down the rain and the MC, I can't remember who
- 13:35Speaker 1: it was, said to them, do you want to do
- 13:38Speaker 1: it again? And they all say yeah, so fair play
- 13:41Speaker 1: to them. So and it's a long song. It's a
- 13:44Speaker 1: sort of a four minute song. Okay, you can take
- 13:46Speaker 1: your red dress off now and get back you to
- 13:48Speaker 1: your computer. Right, So we're gonna what we're gonna talk
- 13:52Speaker 1: about now. We've got some some mixed hockey league. Yeah,
- 13:58Speaker 1: I've got some results from Friday. We do those first.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Now.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Last Friday it was Holcombe three, Maidstone Lions three, Ken
- 14:05Speaker 1: Police two, Ashford Sharks three, Cliftonville one, Canterbury Green Team one,
- 14:11Speaker 1: South Saxons two and Ashford Tigers neil. And it goes
- 14:15Speaker 1: again this Friday at the three Hills. We've got Canterbury
- 14:19Speaker 1: Reds are playing the Madstone Iguanda Dons, the OPPS Blues
- 14:23Speaker 1: are playing Herne Bay, Ashford Sharks are playing at Maidstone
- 14:26Speaker 1: Lions and the OPPS White team are playing Holcombe and
- 14:30Speaker 1: a big thanks to Amy. They're from the Optimist Club
- 14:33Speaker 1: for all that information. Now the fixtures are out for
- 14:38Speaker 1: the men's and the ladies First eleven's hockey. The men
- 14:41Speaker 1: start this season on the twentieth September in the South
- 14:44Speaker 1: East Premier Division with an away fixture at Woking, and
- 14:48Speaker 1: the ladies start on the same day in the South
- 14:51Speaker 1: East Division one East Section with the home fixture against
- 14:55Speaker 1: the Marden Russets. Now this year, I mean, as if
- 14:58Speaker 1: they're not big enough right, the OPS are fielding eight
- 15:01Speaker 1: men's teams plus six ladies teams. Now last year was
- 15:05Speaker 1: just five, and I think a couple of years before
- 15:08Speaker 1: that it was just four. The new sixth team is
- 15:11Speaker 1: what they call a development eleven. Now, thanks to the
- 15:14Speaker 1: OPS and media guru Amy, I kind of had a
- 15:17Speaker 1: rough idea what a media sorry, what a development eleven was.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But I found out that you have to be thirteen
- 15:24Speaker 1: to play adult hockey. But youngsters can play development hockey
- 15:29Speaker 1: at the age of twelve, but as loan as long
- 15:32Speaker 1: as it's in a dedicated league. Because to be fair,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and a lot of players do stay with the game.
- 15:38Speaker 1: You know, they might have been in the first team
- 15:39Speaker 1: then in the second, but they love the game. They
- 15:42Speaker 1: realized they're not as sharp and fit as they used
- 15:44Speaker 1: to be, and so they drop down and helped the
- 15:46Speaker 1: youngsters up. And this is what I Development eleven is
- 15:49Speaker 1: all about. So we'll downe to you, ops and looking
- 15:52Speaker 1: forward to I mean, all those results. It's enough to
- 15:56Speaker 1: pack a whole show in, isn't it. So that is
- 15:59Speaker 1: eight and six, it's twelve six and six is twel
- 16:02Speaker 1: thirty fourteen? Yeah, of course it is fourteen teams? Well
- 16:06Speaker 1: how many? How many players?
- 16:07Speaker 3: Is that?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Fourteen times eleven? One hundred and sixty four? I think
- 16:11Speaker 1: I worked it out as let's just playing stuff. Oh wow, okay,
- 16:15Speaker 1: I'm for a time for a bit of music now
- 16:16Speaker 1: and this is Shaggy and it wasn't me. Oh honey,
- 16:21Speaker 1: game then you got me round and then with a bomb,
- 16:38Speaker 1: that's Shaggy in denial. There, it wasn't him, okay. Never
- 16:48Speaker 1: got a few football snippets that Saturday focused and in
- 16:52Speaker 1: Victor drew Neil Neil with a higher opposition time Bridge Angels,
- 16:56Speaker 1: and on Tuesday evening it was an away fixture against
- 16:59Speaker 1: Dover which in up in a four to three victory
- 17:01Speaker 1: to Folkston. Now I won't say too much about that,
- 17:04Speaker 1: because Adrian was at both those games and he would
- 17:06Speaker 1: be back on Saturday and he'd be telling us all
- 17:09Speaker 1: about just what it was like this Saturday in Victor
- 17:12Speaker 1: travel away to Haunt Church for their final friendly, and
- 17:17Speaker 1: so we can hear more about Adrian's view of everything
- 17:19Speaker 1: up to now, because it's basically a brand new team,
- 17:23Speaker 1: isn't it. And I think the spectators are getting a
- 17:25Speaker 1: little bit excited. But of course in the meantime they've
- 17:28Speaker 1: got a way to see them at home because the
- 17:31Speaker 1: three G pitch isn't ready, won't be ready till about October,
- 17:35Speaker 1: so they've got a lot of away fixtures, thank you
- 17:37Speaker 1: to the league, and they're going to ground share with
- 17:39Speaker 1: Margate until the pitch is ready. Now. Hivetown actually started
- 17:44Speaker 1: this season in the Southern Counties East Football League with
- 17:47Speaker 1: a three nil away win at Corinthian and this Saturday
- 17:51Speaker 1: they're at home now listen to this, already second week
- 17:53Speaker 1: into the season and they are home to Little Hampton
- 17:57Speaker 1: in the FA Cup Extra preliminary round. Could you have
- 18:01Speaker 1: It's amazing, isn't it. You've always thought the sort of
- 18:03Speaker 1: FA Cup started around about December or January, but no,
- 18:06Speaker 1: it's starting this Saturday. Now the FA Cup is worth
- 18:11Speaker 1: This particular game in the FAA Cup FA Extra Preliminary
- 18:16Speaker 1: Round is worth one one hundred and twenty five pounds
- 18:19Speaker 1: to the winners and three hundred and seventy five pounds
- 18:22Speaker 1: to the losers. And just a little bit of a
- 18:25Speaker 1: nonsense trivia. If I should get to the final, then
- 18:29Speaker 1: that game and they win it, that game is worth
- 18:31Speaker 1: two million pound so wow. Now in the Kent County League,
- 18:36Speaker 1: which also starts this Saturday, Hawkins are at home to
- 18:39Speaker 1: Guru Nanak and last year's reigning champions at New Romney
- 18:43Speaker 1: started the defense of their title with an away fixture
- 18:47Speaker 1: against a metro Gas, which means a trip to Thamesmead
- 18:50Speaker 1: region very near to the river up there. The following
- 18:54Speaker 1: week they have a home game against Falkenwood, who traveled
- 18:57Speaker 1: down from a near Eltam. But this game is more
- 19:00Speaker 1: than just a league game, as it sees the opening
- 19:03Speaker 1: of the new clubhouse, which means that after over a
- 19:06Speaker 1: year of ground sharing with Selling Sports, they returned to
- 19:09Speaker 1: the Maude Pavilion in Station Road and they'd love to
- 19:12Speaker 1: see a big crowd there to enjoy this occasion. And
- 19:15Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of ex new Romney footballers
- 19:17Speaker 1: would love to go down and see the new pavilion,
- 19:20Speaker 1: see what it looks like. So that's the ninth of
- 19:22Speaker 1: August for a two forty five kickoff, and I'll be
- 19:25Speaker 1: telling you about that once again next week or on
- 19:29Speaker 1: Saturday or leading up to that. It's a big occasion. Actually,
- 19:33Speaker 1: now we can't go too far on a sports show
- 19:37Speaker 1: without mentioning the Lionesses. Did you see that final? Why
- 19:41Speaker 1: did they do it to us? Hey? Every England final
- 19:44Speaker 1: seems to be penalties, but they stuck to it. They've
- 19:47Speaker 1: got a lot of plays praise, they've got a lot
- 19:50Speaker 1: of stick from the Spanish team and don't like to
- 19:52Speaker 1: say too much, but they don't like being beaten today.
- 19:56Speaker 1: And so anyway they went through, they got to the
- 19:58Speaker 1: gate that last penalty, she kicked her knee up and
- 20:02Speaker 1: smashed it into the net. And what a finale. And
- 20:06Speaker 1: I did see the clip of the of the open
- 20:08Speaker 1: top bus tour going around London and how amazing that
- 20:11Speaker 1: thousands and thousands of people turned out to see and
- 20:14Speaker 1: welcome them home. And quite rightly so. They've certainly made
- 20:18Speaker 1: a stamp on the football minds of a lot of people,
- 20:22Speaker 1: a lot of people were a bit skeptical about ladies
- 20:24Speaker 1: football when it first came out, but now, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: to be fair, during the Euro's TV figures went up
- 20:30Speaker 1: and even the fellas and are starting to enjoy it.
- 20:34Speaker 1: So there's no other song to play really except this one,
- 20:37Speaker 1: because for the retaining the European Championship for the second time,
- 20:42Speaker 1: you could only play one song, and this is Queen
- 20:45Speaker 1: and we are the champions. Dear.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Time after time, I've done my sentence, but no crys.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I've made a view.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And that's for the Lionesses and all these supporters that
- 21:36Speaker 1: have encouraged them and really really enjoyed the tournament. They
- 21:42Speaker 1: they do. I've got no nails left of view. It's
- 21:47Speaker 1: but they stuck it out and you've got admire them
- 21:49Speaker 1: for their teamwork, their resilience, they're just the way they battled.
- 21:53Speaker 1: So that was for you Lionesses and all the fans
- 21:56Speaker 1: and all the new fans that have got a new
- 21:58Speaker 1: awakening looking aties football. Okay, so we're going to kind
- 22:02Speaker 1: of chill chill it down a little bit now in
- 22:04Speaker 1: nineteen ninety eight, and I love this song. This is
- 22:06Speaker 1: the cause, and so young. That's the cause they're so young.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Remember them. I think they were like three sisters and
- 22:33Speaker 1: one brother actually Irish group. But yeah, yeah, came along.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Lovely style of music, yeah love it. Okay, Now I've
- 22:40Speaker 1: got some running snippets. Now you may remember that South
- 22:43Speaker 1: Kept mind in conjunction with Buston Water and folkst And
- 22:47Speaker 1: Running and Athletics Club set up a three accouch to
- 22:50Speaker 1: five k course and they're nearly halfway through it. Five
- 22:53Speaker 1: new members have been going every Monday and are doing
- 22:56Speaker 1: well under the guidance of experienced runners and coaches. Now
- 23:00Speaker 1: the aim is not to turn them into running superstars,
- 23:03Speaker 1: but to improve their mental health, their confidence, make them
- 23:05Speaker 1: feel that they're part of a like minded group. Have had,
- 23:08Speaker 1: of course, to keep them fear so. A big thanks
- 23:10Speaker 1: go to Running Club members Katherine O'Connor, Darren Crewe and
- 23:14Speaker 1: Jodi Stokes, and South Kent Minds, a fundraiser, and Folks
- 23:18Speaker 1: and Optimists Men's first team player Joe Tolhurst who set
- 23:22Speaker 1: up this group.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Now.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Please visit the South k Mindes facebook page for all
- 23:25Speaker 1: their activities, especially look at for the firewalk at the
- 23:28Speaker 1: Three Hills. It's on Friday the twelve September. All the
- 23:33Speaker 1: details are there and should you want to take part,
- 23:35Speaker 1: there is a frequently asked questions section that you might
- 23:40Speaker 1: find interesting. But basically it's an entry fee of twenty pound,
- 23:45Speaker 1: but they suggested a minimum sponsorship of eighty pounds. Now,
- 23:48Speaker 1: if you get together with your friends get a team
- 23:51Speaker 1: of five, it's works out even cheaper because you cost
- 23:55Speaker 1: you The team of five costs your eighty pounds, so
- 23:57Speaker 1: basically you get one place free and there The suggested
- 24:01Speaker 1: minimum sponsorship for the whole team is three hundred and
- 24:04Speaker 1: fifty pounds, so instead of doing it singlely and suggested
- 24:08Speaker 1: his eighty pound, if you do as a team, they
- 24:10Speaker 1: suggest it's more like forty five pounds. So have a
- 24:14Speaker 1: little look at that and I might go along and
- 24:16Speaker 1: watch that. Oh Joe did ask me if I wanted
- 24:18Speaker 1: to go in for it, but I decided to say no.
- 24:22Speaker 1: But it saw a thing that's very good for the spectators,
- 24:26Speaker 1: so it might be worth a little trip down there.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Well.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Our local park run tourists hit the road last Saturday
- 24:32Speaker 1: at venues in the UK and further Afield. Malcolm and
- 24:36Speaker 1: Julie Gibbs ran the Rutland Water Park Run in East Midlands.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Gail Turbert was in Braley Forest in Nottinghamshire. Tristan Bruce
- 24:46Speaker 1: was in the alice Holt Forest in Hampshire. And the
- 24:49Speaker 1: last time we were in alice Holt Forest who were
- 24:51Speaker 1: doing a race there. I was doing a commentary and
- 24:54Speaker 1: Missus Ferrett decided to go off for a little run.
- 24:56Speaker 1: We thought, oh, she can't get lost, you know, just
- 24:58Speaker 1: go out follow the Horris trail, turned around to come back.
- 25:02Speaker 1: But she come back. She was shake it like believe.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I said, what's happened? What's happening? She said? I was
- 25:06Speaker 1: running along, said and the deer jumped out in front
- 25:08Speaker 1: of me. Well, I've never seen a move so fast
- 25:10Speaker 1: honestly anyway. Other park run tourists were Brian Brian Austin.
- 25:16Speaker 1: He ran in Didcot which is just south of Oxford,
- 25:19Speaker 1: Phil Mall and Sylvia Talkaska. They've ran the Y Promenade
- 25:23Speaker 1: abber War Park Run and now that's near Snowdonia and
- 25:26Speaker 1: he's actually called the Why the letter Y Promenade and
- 25:30Speaker 1: a lot of people do go there. They make a
- 25:31Speaker 1: bee line for that place because they are doing the
- 25:34Speaker 1: ater z Alphabet and why well it's a daughter wasn't it,
- 25:39Speaker 1: And also it must have been a nice time a
- 25:42Speaker 1: different different park run, different venue. Jordan Jesson found himself
- 25:46Speaker 1: in Roberts Park in West Yorkshire. Henry and Amy Akson
- 25:50Speaker 1: traveled to Newborough Forest in Wells, Wales. And finally I
- 25:54Speaker 1: thought to myself looking through the list, I thought, oh,
- 25:56Speaker 1: I know where this one is. River Valley Park run
- 25:58Speaker 1: in Edmonton, as in North London, so I thought we'll
- 26:01Speaker 1: better check it out. Anyway, I did check it out
- 26:03Speaker 1: as good as I did, because Linnaire Stockhol was actually
- 26:06Speaker 1: in Edmonton in Alberta in Canada, so so that was
- 26:12Speaker 1: a good story. And I must get catch up with
- 26:14Speaker 1: Linnea and find out what the park run sort of
- 26:18Speaker 1: see them. I don't know what the scene is out there,
- 26:21Speaker 1: whether they're really into it or she was just lucky
- 26:23Speaker 1: and found one when she was out on holiday. Anyway,
- 26:26Speaker 1: this one's from nineteen eighty nine. This is Kirsty McCall and.
- 26:29Speaker 3: They thank you for the day, Sacred.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Days the gentle voice of Kirsty McCall. There and Days
- 27:03Speaker 1: from nineteen eighty nine. Now after I went to Diamond
- 27:07Speaker 1: League a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't had
- 27:08Speaker 1: a chance to tell you about it, because we've had
- 27:10Speaker 1: guests in and guests Paul Egan and his team last
- 27:13Speaker 1: week and it was so interesting. I don't think we
- 27:15Speaker 1: got a word in. So I went to the State
- 27:18Speaker 1: of London Stadium, first time for me in the London
- 27:21Speaker 1: Stadium so easy to get to, especially if you're a
- 27:23Speaker 1: west Ham supporter. Sixty thousand fans there. Now we were
- 27:27Speaker 1: at the end nearest the pole vault, which was and
- 27:31Speaker 1: British athlete Molly Cordery your name was. She jumped four
- 27:35Speaker 1: meters sixty She stayed with the leaders all the way
- 27:38Speaker 1: until the New Zealand lady Oliver McTaggart won the competition.
- 27:42Speaker 1: That she got a personal best vault of four personal
- 27:45Speaker 1: best vaults of four meters seventy three, which in old
- 27:49Speaker 1: money is fifteen foot six inches. To be fair, the
- 27:55Speaker 1: other athletes joined jumped the same distance, but she she
- 27:59Speaker 1: got it first time, so she didn't have as many
- 28:01Speaker 1: failures as the others. But the highlight of seeing the
- 28:04Speaker 1: ninth relay team, the nineteen ninety seven relay team receiving
- 28:08Speaker 1: their medals, which they deserved, and that was because the
- 28:12Speaker 1: Americans owned up to cheating back in the day and
- 28:16Speaker 1: so it's good to see all four of them standing
- 28:18Speaker 1: up getting the accolade they deserve from her home crowd.
- 28:22Speaker 1: That was Let's see, there was five of them actually,
- 28:25Speaker 1: Roger Black, Jamie buch You and Thomas, Mark Richardson and
- 28:29Speaker 1: Mark Hilton. Well they have five because one of them,
- 28:33Speaker 1: Mark Hilton, did actually help the guys in the early round,
- 28:37Speaker 1: so he was part of the team and deserved the
- 28:39Speaker 1: medal as well. Well, that's it from me. I shall
- 28:42Speaker 1: be back at the weekend between ten and eleven for
- 28:45Speaker 1: the Saturday Sports Show, where Ady will be telling us
- 28:49Speaker 1: how the new look focused in Victor are getting on
- 28:51Speaker 1: and the shape me nose. They've got the final friendly
- 28:54Speaker 1: match and I'll be digging out any more local sportysh
- 28:56Speaker 1: snippets I can find now. If you've got a local
- 28:59Speaker 1: sporty story share and want to come on the show,
- 29:01Speaker 1: it is so easy. Please send me a private message
- 29:04Speaker 1: via Facebook and we would love to hear it. There
- 29:07Speaker 1: are so many unsung heroes out there and if you're
- 29:10Speaker 1: one of them, or you want to promote your club
- 29:12Speaker 1: and it's local to this region, then please please get
