- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Frida and I'm the singer in Rix's
- 0:03Speaker 1: Oria and Jonas. You want to present yourself.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm Jonas playing the guitar and is a songwriter
- 0:16Speaker 2: also together with Frida.
- 0:18Speaker 3: So yeah, fan, thanks for joining us all the way
- 0:22Speaker 3: from the Sweden today, Thank you for having us.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Thank you all.
- 0:27Speaker 4: So, Rex Sonia release your fourth studio album, Fall and
- 0:31Speaker 4: Dimension on MAGA eighth, So not long now.
- 0:33Speaker 3: How do you feel about it?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it's what is it like two weeks awaight or
- 0:39Speaker 1: something like that. Feels feels insane as well. I've been
- 0:43Speaker 1: working on this a long time and now it's finally
- 0:47Speaker 1: here and it's both exciting and a bit scary to
- 0:51Speaker 1: you know, release it to the world and see how
- 0:53Speaker 1: people will will enjoy it or or not and everything.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So yes, feels crazy.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Can you tell a bit more about the album from
- 1:01Speaker 4: a musical point of view and what you's you gone.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Toward this summer?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, this one is a little bit more based on
- 1:11Speaker 2: the guitar riffs. It's a little bit darker still. Of course,
- 1:15Speaker 2: we have the melody in our songs and the catchy
- 1:18Speaker 2: choruses as one, but it's more balanced between the keyboard
- 1:22Speaker 2: and the guitars, so it's a little bit more of
- 1:25Speaker 2: heavy metal riffs here and there blended with the keyboards.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And I think also the backing vocals is a bit
- 1:33Speaker 2: more more powerful, I would say. And yeah, Frida has
- 1:38Speaker 2: a lot of gritting her voice and we're chelling she
- 1:44Speaker 2: herself a lot, I would say in the studio, and
- 1:48Speaker 2: you can I think you really can hear that on
- 1:50Speaker 2: the album. How that it's right, like really where it
- 1:55Speaker 2: should be, I would say, yea.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel feel the same, Like we have been
- 2:01Speaker 1: really trying to develop ourselves and our sound and really
- 2:05Speaker 1: try to find our like sweet spot in what rick
- 2:08Speaker 1: Oil really is, and I think we have managed to
- 2:11Speaker 1: do that, Like this is this album really really showcases
- 2:16Speaker 1: the rics oria and what we stand for in all
- 2:19Speaker 1: the ways, both musically, lyric wise and everything. So yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I think it's it's It was good that me and
- 2:26Speaker 1: Gionas was like squashing some songs and was like, no,
- 2:30Speaker 1: this is not good enough, No this is not gonna
- 2:32Speaker 1: cut it as to really you know, managed to put
- 2:36Speaker 1: together eleven songs that we're going to stand stand behind
- 2:38Speaker 1: and think that made a great album.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Oh and this one follows a hugely successful album Imperial Dawn.
- 2:45Speaker 4: So when you said they how to do this one
- 2:48Speaker 4: because of the success of that album, was attempting just
- 2:50Speaker 4: to rehash what was obviously.
- 2:52Speaker 3: A winning formula.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Was it important for you guys to sort of carry
- 2:55Speaker 4: us on a little bit more?
- 2:58Speaker 2: I think we when we were start writing the album,
- 3:02Speaker 2: we said that we really want the album dynamic, but
- 3:06Speaker 2: still hearing that it's Risoria. So of course we were
- 3:11Speaker 2: talking about develop our music, our songs and so on.
- 3:14Speaker 2: So that was a little bit hard also, especially for
- 3:18Speaker 2: me and Frida, who is like inside this bubble when
- 3:20Speaker 2: we are writing the songs and feeling is this too
- 3:25Speaker 2: similar work we had before or is it too far away?
- 3:28Speaker 2: And find the right balance there so you still have
- 3:32Speaker 2: the red thread during the complete album. So that was
- 3:36Speaker 2: good that we had our other bandmates that we could
- 3:40Speaker 2: talk a little bit about this, because when you're in
- 3:42Speaker 2: the bubble it's hard to navigate. Sometimes.
- 3:45Speaker 5: I would say, yeah, today you released the singles up
- 3:50Speaker 5: Break the Wave and Heart and Sorrow, So they good
- 3:53Speaker 5: sonny representation of what do you expect in the full
- 3:55Speaker 5: album or do they descritch the surface?
- 3:58Speaker 1: I think they are good representation since we strategically decided
- 4:04Speaker 1: to release first and more usual Ricksoria song that people
- 4:09Speaker 1: are very familiar with, and even if it's a bit
- 4:12Speaker 1: heavier than we have done before and a bit yeah
- 4:16Speaker 1: kind of cool melody, it's more a Ricksa sound, so
- 4:19Speaker 1: we can like feel the people Okay, this is gonna
- 4:22Speaker 1: be ricks O.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But then we did you know, heart of Sorrow. That's
- 4:25Speaker 1: kind of way out what we have done before. And
- 4:28Speaker 1: I think it was a good match because it showcases
- 4:31Speaker 1: the two parts on the album, some Rixsoria songs that
- 4:34Speaker 1: are always there, like that you're familiar with, and then
- 4:38Speaker 1: also some surprises and unexpected songs. As I think it's
- 4:42Speaker 1: it shows cases that both sides of the album.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Yeah, the album opened through the song Metallic Rage. If
- 4:50Speaker 4: it starts with a bit of water on chatter before
- 4:52Speaker 4: exploding the fury of drums and guitars, right, it's a
- 4:55Speaker 4: massive way I opened the album. But what was the
- 4:58Speaker 4: thought process behind starting there?
- 5:01Speaker 2: And I think it was when we were like, had
- 5:05Speaker 2: written half of the song and so on, then we
- 5:08Speaker 2: were thinking like this sounds like a good opener for
- 5:11Speaker 2: the album because this was the last song we wrote
- 5:13Speaker 2: for the album, and we.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and why was that.
- 5:19Speaker 2: We thought that we that we thought that we had
- 5:22Speaker 2: written all the eleven songs for the album, but then
- 5:25Speaker 2: when we were we were like celebrating a little bit,
- 5:28Speaker 2: and then shortly after we realized it was just ten
- 5:31Speaker 2: songs on the album. So that yeah, so that's why
- 5:36Speaker 2: this riff became as it became, because I like came
- 5:41Speaker 2: up with that by pure frustrations, and Freda said, of
- 5:44Speaker 2: course she freedom was also very very frustrated about this,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and then she was like faster, faster, faster. So then
- 5:51Speaker 2: it's like we raised its thirty bpm or something like this.
- 5:54Speaker 2: And then when we had this part, like this is
- 5:57Speaker 2: this should be the opener because the other songs we
- 6:00Speaker 2: never really felt like that, And then we talked about
- 6:03Speaker 2: we need some kind of ink or something like this.
- 6:05Speaker 2: And then when Frieda was thinking a little bit about
- 6:08Speaker 2: what the song could be, about what it should and
- 6:11Speaker 2: then we said, yeah, then we should have something like
- 6:14Speaker 2: war things with walkie talki or this radio thing and
- 6:20Speaker 2: everything what's going on in the background. So then it
- 6:25Speaker 2: likes tiding up the song and also having that part
- 6:28Speaker 2: in the in the middle or end of the song
- 6:31Speaker 2: and so on. So I really I'm really happy how
- 6:35Speaker 2: that turned out.
- 6:36Speaker 3: It's very very effective.
- 6:38Speaker 4: By the start just grabs you straight up and it
- 6:41Speaker 4: makes you listener, you've done well. I'm not just looking
- 6:46Speaker 4: through the track list that there's no song called Faller Dimensions,
- 6:50Speaker 4: So the obviously means that the title has got a
- 6:52Speaker 4: bit greater significance.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it is about you know, says a lot of
- 6:59Speaker 1: the thing is about society and what's going on and everything.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Were inspired songs and everything. We felt like this is
- 7:09Speaker 1: it should be called fall and I mentioned but also
- 7:11Speaker 1: with the hint of hope in the cover art, where like, Okay,
- 7:17Speaker 1: we're going up for the worst times right now, but
- 7:20Speaker 1: behind that the sun is rising and we're like, like
- 7:23Speaker 1: can pushed through together to you know, come out stronger.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And so we felt like that was a strong title,
- 7:30Speaker 1: and we didn't feel like any of the songs had
- 7:32Speaker 1: like the the perfect name for album, so we just
- 7:36Speaker 1: came up with this that collect all the songs in
- 7:39Speaker 1: one in one name. And then we worked with Gilbert
- 7:44Speaker 1: Mellow in Brazil who has been working with us a
- 7:47Speaker 1: lot on our cover arts, and he understood the feeling
- 7:51Speaker 1: and what we were aiming for right away and came
- 7:53Speaker 1: up with a really good artwork for the for the
- 7:56Speaker 1: album as well.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, and the album also features two duets.
- 8:01Speaker 4: We guess artist you've got Mike Anderson from Hunston and
- 8:04Speaker 4: Johnny so personally watching them to be on the album.
- 8:10Speaker 4: And secondly, what did they bring to the song thereon?
- 8:16Speaker 2: I think when we started to write the album, then
- 8:21Speaker 2: we started actually with Heart of Sorrow. We said that
- 8:25Speaker 2: we want to like have something special, we want to
- 8:29Speaker 2: start with that, and then we came up with this
- 8:31Speaker 2: ballad and said, we really need to challenge ourselves on
- 8:34Speaker 2: this album, so we start with this one, which we
- 8:37Speaker 2: thought this can be the most challenging song. And then
- 8:42Speaker 2: when we were writing this, we were realizing that this
- 8:46Speaker 2: one sounds pretty good. We should actually have a male singer.
- 8:52Speaker 2: And then when we were thinking about what kind of
- 8:55Speaker 2: singer would would fit for this and so on, and
- 8:58Speaker 2: then we Johnny came up right way in our heads
- 9:01Speaker 2: because we also know that he has done so many
- 9:04Speaker 2: ballads with a hardline or accent with the pell so
- 9:09Speaker 2: and then we asked him and he was he liked
- 9:13Speaker 2: the song and really wanted to join. So then we
- 9:16Speaker 2: said that perfect better than we thought that he could
- 9:21Speaker 2: be actually, and then it was the second song which
- 9:25Speaker 2: is dominion. Freda came up with with a chorus sent
- 9:31Speaker 2: me over the phone and I heard like right away, okay,
- 9:34Speaker 2: I get the feeling right away about this song. And
- 9:37Speaker 2: when we were sitting and writing this more of the
- 9:40Speaker 2: complete song and recording, and I think, Freda, you came
- 9:43Speaker 2: up with like it's so much power in this, a
- 9:47Speaker 2: bit different what we have done before. Also, so what
- 9:50Speaker 2: about the guests singing here as well? And then we
- 9:54Speaker 2: came up with Mike and he was like really fast
- 9:57Speaker 2: with responding and helping us. I would say, or what
- 10:02Speaker 2: do you think for that?
- 10:04Speaker 1: It took like from me writing to him like asking
- 10:07Speaker 1: him do you want to join on this song? It's
- 10:09Speaker 1: just like two days and then he had sent over
- 10:11Speaker 1: all the vocal tracks back in vocal tracks everything. It
- 10:14Speaker 1: was like we were oh, well, okay, this this was great.
- 10:18Speaker 1: So it was a really fast, really fun guy to
- 10:20Speaker 1: work with. And as you want to said, the song
- 10:23Speaker 1: became as a as a mission for us, more of
- 10:26Speaker 1: a Sabatan feel over it. And since I wanted like
- 10:33Speaker 1: that back in vocals with a male kind of raw power,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I think it went really good to to have Mike
- 10:40Speaker 1: to join there to make it something something special, right, This.
- 10:45Speaker 4: One was directed to you, afraid something I've always sort
- 10:47Speaker 4: of wondered with bands, like as the vocalist, that's the
- 10:50Speaker 4: rug person.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Of a band.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Is it is it difficult to roll to ask someone
- 10:54Speaker 4: else to sing on your album? Like, does it feel
- 10:56Speaker 4: like you've given away some of your control we have
- 11:00Speaker 4: someone else sing on the other.
- 11:02Speaker 1: No? For me, everyone can sing and I don't need
- 11:05Speaker 1: to sing at all. No kidding aside is like, I
- 11:12Speaker 1: don't have that feeling at all. I want the songs
- 11:14Speaker 1: to be the best they can be. And even if
- 11:17Speaker 1: it's like a duet or anyone else singing, like of
- 11:19Speaker 1: courses so versus, it doesn't matter the best. The most
- 11:23Speaker 1: important part is that the song's becoming good and says
- 11:27Speaker 1: it's not it's not me showcasing Ricksoria in my voice.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Ricsoria is built on everyone, So it's not it's not
- 11:36Speaker 1: hard at all. It's just fun to, you know, work
- 11:38Speaker 1: with other people and explore other other points of views
- 11:42Speaker 1: and everything.
- 11:43Speaker 3: So cool. It's just really fun nice.
- 11:46Speaker 4: So musically, like Rickstory is music blames heavy metal, that's
- 11:50Speaker 4: power metally, You've got some funny elements electronics, Like there's
- 11:54Speaker 4: a lot going on in there, like, how do you
- 11:56Speaker 4: find the balance in the creative process.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that's sometimes the hard thing because we normally just
- 12:05Speaker 2: write the songs how we want them to be, what
- 12:08Speaker 2: we like. But then it's a challenge, of course for
- 12:11Speaker 2: the mixer guy who is like, need to okay, now
- 12:15Speaker 2: it's a lot of going on, need to balance and
- 12:18Speaker 2: sort some things up. But we always like start with
- 12:21Speaker 2: the basic, which is the chords and some guitar riffs,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and from there we are adding more and more instruments.
- 12:30Speaker 2: That's why we haven't really before found our style what
- 12:36Speaker 2: we are playing. So then we came up with that
- 12:40Speaker 2: we are playing royal metal, and I think Freda has
- 12:43Speaker 2: a good explanation about what that means.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not about if you say royal metal, you
- 12:50Speaker 1: may be thinking about like kings and queens or knights
- 12:53Speaker 1: or something like that. But royal metal for us is
- 12:56Speaker 1: since you say, as you said, and so many people
- 12:59Speaker 1: have said before, like you have both power, you have
- 13:01Speaker 1: both symphonic, you have both heavy. But we wanted to okay,
- 13:04Speaker 1: but what are we them? Then we are something else,
- 13:07Speaker 1: And then we said, like this is royal metal because
- 13:09Speaker 1: royal metal stands for unity and that we're united in
- 13:14Speaker 1: our empire with our fans, like we're building something together
- 13:17Speaker 1: with them, and a lot of our songs is about
- 13:20Speaker 1: empowerment and racing up against like the authorities, like doing
- 13:25Speaker 1: something like if you're feeling little or small, we can
- 13:28Speaker 1: stand united and do something else and it's both greatness.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And I think that that concept really really helped us
- 13:36Speaker 1: to develop what Ricksore is now and what we're becoming
- 13:38Speaker 1: with this album. And I think the people really would
- 13:42Speaker 1: understand that because we have always been royal, that we
- 13:44Speaker 1: just didn't have a.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Name for it before.
- 13:46Speaker 1: You have always like written in that sense. So yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 1: I think that that really tie things up nice.
- 13:54Speaker 3: So I can add to this one separately individually.
- 13:57Speaker 4: But can you remember the first time you ever heard
- 14:00Speaker 4: one of his songs on the radio and where you
- 14:03Speaker 4: were and what song it was?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Oh, we were actually together after a rehearsal. It was
- 14:15Speaker 2: one of the very very old songs from our demo
- 14:18Speaker 2: and it was played in in the know some kind
- 14:21Speaker 2: of rock radio for new upcoming bands. It was the
- 14:25Speaker 2: song Moonlight, and it.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Was it was not the kind of rocker. It was
- 14:30Speaker 1: the national big radio rock classic, So it was like
- 14:34Speaker 1: a really.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Big Yeah, and we were very excited about that. I
- 14:41Speaker 2: remember this yeah, where we were like, wow, now we
- 14:44Speaker 2: need to listen. So we were listening to it live, actually.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Standing outside like jumping around like oh yeah, this is
- 14:51Speaker 1: not radio.
- 14:54Speaker 3: That's a really cool moment. Thanks very much, you talking
- 14:59Speaker 3: the pluget speak with you.
- 15:00Speaker 4: One Dimension is the out made the eighth and a
- 15:02Speaker 4: bloody good, good slab of music.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I have done a good job with it, so best
- 15:05Speaker 3: of luck.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Thank you very much, thank you, thank you so much.
