Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: From Europe. Vincent Megaviny, Good morning and Merry Christmas.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Good morning, Merry Christmas.
- 0:05Speaker 1: All right, Obviously the senators handed down in the case
- 0:07Speaker 1: of Gazelle Pilico and her husband received the maximum twenty
- 0:11Speaker 1: years sentence. It's not a surprise for dragging his wife,
- 0:14Speaker 1: raping her and inviting dozens of strangers. But there's some
- 0:16Speaker 1: disappointment about the sentences for the fifty other men, aren't they.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. This horrific case as grip not only
- 0:23Speaker 2: France but the world really and it came to its
- 0:25Speaker 2: conclusion after three months this morning. So, as you mentioned,
- 0:28Speaker 2: Chazelle Pelico's husband, Dominique Pelico, received a twenty year sentence,
- 0:32Speaker 2: the maximum sentence for what he did. He's also under
- 0:36Speaker 2: investigation for another alleged rape and potentially alleged murder as well.
- 0:42Speaker 2: And then there was a trial of fifty other men
- 0:45Speaker 2: of the seventy two that says believed to have he's
- 0:48Speaker 2: had abusing her that's been documented in all this video
- 0:51Speaker 2: and horrific footage. The fifty that they were able to identify,
- 0:56Speaker 2: they have been given sentences sort of between five and eight,
- 1:00Speaker 2: so not the maximum in the categories that they were
- 1:02Speaker 2: going for So there is some disappointment in that we
- 1:06Speaker 2: don't know whether some of them were. They will appeal.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But miss Perico addressed France on leaving saying she regretted
- 1:14Speaker 2: lose giving up her anonymity to come forward. She said
- 1:17Speaker 2: it was right to transfer the shame to these men.
- 1:19Speaker 2: It was quite an extraordinary scene outside the court, the
- 1:21Speaker 2: world's press there, all of these, you know, men that
- 1:25Speaker 2: had abused her, was sort of trapesing into the court
- 1:29Speaker 2: in the morning just before she went in. So some
- 1:32Speaker 2: extraordinary strength on display from this pedico.
- 1:36Speaker 1: She was amazing. She was amazing. But most of these men,
- 1:39Speaker 1: the fifty men on trial, denied that what they did
- 1:41Speaker 1: was right because she was unconscious and therefore did not
- 1:43Speaker 1: know that they were raping her. And that means France
- 1:46Speaker 1: is having this huge discussion now about the legal definition
- 1:48Speaker 1: of rape and it's just terrific really. So we'll move
- 1:52Speaker 1: on to Vledimir Putin, who just did the most epic
- 1:56Speaker 1: end of year press conference more than four hours nearly five.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think we can use a press
- 2:03Speaker 2: conference somewhat in air quotes. There were questions from journalists there,
- 2:09Speaker 2: but then there's also sort of questions planted somewhat by
- 2:13Speaker 2: sort of callers allegedly calling in freely from around Russia.
- 2:17Speaker 2: But it's never quite been clear who these people are.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But he did take questions from the press that were there,
- 2:22Speaker 2: including some Western journalists. Those sort of headlines were that,
- 2:26Speaker 2: you know, he says that he should have gone into
- 2:28Speaker 2: Ukraine earlier, and that he admitted that more preparation was
- 2:31Speaker 2: needed for what he's still calling his special military operation.
- 2:35Speaker 2: He said he hasn't arranged any meetings yet with a
- 2:38Speaker 2: president elect Donald Trump, despite all the signals that they'll
- 2:42Speaker 2: probably be getting around the negotiation table next year to
- 2:45Speaker 2: try and come to some kind of settlement on the
- 2:47Speaker 2: Ukraine War, though they said. He said though that he
- 2:51Speaker 2: will be meeting Bashar Ala Sad, the deposed Syrian president,
- 2:56Speaker 2: now in Moscow. And he also sort of reflected on
- 3:00Speaker 2: the fact that he says it wasn't a loss for Russia,
- 3:04Speaker 2: it was simply a complicated situation, and that he's not
- 3:08Speaker 2: spoken to Assad yet, but he expects to do so
- 3:11Speaker 2: at some point.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And look, you just said that at a minute and
- 3:14Speaker 1: it took him for in a bit hours. Thank you
- 3:17Speaker 1: so much, vinceus Megavinni, enjoy your Christmas and enjoy your family.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And not only that, Fladimir Putin also took the opportunity
- 3:23Speaker 1: in this four and a half hours to address domestic issues,
- 3:25Speaker 1: including telephone scammers, the country's low birth rate, and problems
- 3:29Speaker 1: young people are facing when trying to get a mortgage,
- 3:32Speaker 1: the same problems all over the world.
