- Najah: Can we stop acting like family can only be people we're related to? because some of the best family I've ever had doesn't share my last name, my DNA, or a family tree with me. they share something far more important. Consistency. Love. Safety. Presence. See, the family I got to choose has shown up for me in ways some relatives never did. They've checked on me when I was struggling. Celebrated me when I was winning. Made me feel seen when I felt invisible. Made me feel safe when life wasn't. And the beautiful thing about chosen family is that the relationship exists because both people keep choosing it. Nobody is there because of obligation. Nobody is there because you're related. They're there because they want to be. And that means something to me. Which is why I don't subscribe to the idea that family is only about blood. Because blood might make you related. But love, trust, respect, consistency and showing up. That's what makes you family. And I am incredibly grateful for the people who continue to choose me. Because I choose them too.
