- 2:05Speaker 3: of stuff to get to this morning. Busy morning. We're
- 2:08Speaker 3: gonna talk to the folks of Goodwill about a big
- 2:10Speaker 3: event that they have coming up.
- 2:11Speaker 4: That's coming up.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Momentarily, Kanaw County Commissioned President Lance Wheeler will be stopping
- 2:15Speaker 3: by a big clean up.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Going on in the area.
- 2:17Speaker 3: In Lance, we'll talk about that. And he's no longer
- 2:20Speaker 3: band Brad mcilhanny. We'll join this in the second segment
- 2:23Speaker 3: as well.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Got to get to a couple of.
- 2:26Speaker 3: News items before we get into anything else. Within the
- 2:28Speaker 3: last hour, a statement was released by Senator Joe Manchin,
- 2:32Speaker 3: also another senator another a statement rather from Charleston Mayor
- 2:36Speaker 3: Amy Goodlin, A good one that is that it looks
- 2:40Speaker 3: like the postal facility has been saved.
- 2:42Speaker 4: From a downgrade.
- 2:43Speaker 3: This has been talked about for the last six eight
- 2:44Speaker 3: months or so about this postal facility in Charleston possibly
- 2:48Speaker 3: closing and moving operations to Pennsylvania. Senator Manson was the
- 2:52Speaker 3: first out with the statement about forty five minutes or
- 2:55Speaker 3: so ago, saying that after speaking with Postmaster General Lewis
- 2:58Speaker 3: to Joy Junior that the Postal service will be canceling
- 3:02Speaker 3: the proposed downgrade of the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center. Again,
- 3:06Speaker 3: that information was released by Senator Mansion within the last
- 3:10Speaker 3: hour or so. Mayor Goodwin also out with the statement
- 3:13Speaker 3: on that Jeff Hoppy and Company. Will have more on
- 3:15Speaker 3: that coming up throughout the morning. So again it looks
- 3:18Speaker 3: like as of right now that the postal facility has
- 3:21Speaker 3: been saved in the Charleston area, it will not be closing.
- 3:25Speaker 4: That is the story.
- 3:26Speaker 3: The big story coming up also locally, a story that
- 3:29Speaker 3: could have been a tragedy but apparently it's still a
- 3:34Speaker 3: tragedy situation, but luckily no lives were lost. There was
- 3:37Speaker 3: a fire reported earlier this morning at the Friendly Faces
- 3:40Speaker 3: Daycare center on flutter John Road. Important to note that
- 3:44Speaker 3: the center was not open yet, so there were no
- 3:46Speaker 3: kids on site. However, there were two staff members in
- 3:49Speaker 3: the building. Charleston Fire Department tell us as they were
- 3:52Speaker 3: not injured, and the fire Department does tell us that
- 3:54Speaker 3: the entire area around flutter John Road near Kroger will
- 3:57Speaker 3: be closed until further notice. Again, will have more details
- 4:00Speaker 3: online and on air throughout the day. So those are
- 4:04Speaker 3: your two big morning headlines, and again we'll have more
- 4:07Speaker 3: wcchsntwork dot com, WV Metronews dot com on air, on
- 4:11Speaker 3: all the socials.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Throughout the day.
- 4:14Speaker 3: We got a lot to get to this morning. Let's
- 4:16Speaker 3: talk a little goodwill stuff right now and make a
- 4:17Speaker 3: deal in Jamon Schmid with us right now.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Good morning, guys, how are you?
- 4:20Speaker 6: Good morning.
- 4:22Speaker 7: Morning.
- 4:25Speaker 4: It's it's been a morning.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Let me just say that, and for you guys too,
- 4:28Speaker 3: because I mean you arrived in the building just like
- 4:30Speaker 3: a little bit after eight o'clock or so this morning,
- 4:32Speaker 3: Major rounds. We gave you the worst first, so you
- 4:34Speaker 3: got to go on with Steve Annabal on the Mountain.
- 4:36Speaker 3: You survived that and it got a little bit better
- 4:39Speaker 3: with Rob Reel on KWS. And I think you spent
- 4:41Speaker 3: some time with Jenny on V one hundred as well.
- 4:43Speaker 3: So you've kind of made your rounds this morning too.
- 4:45Speaker 6: We've been on a world tour this morning.
- 4:46Speaker 4: And you get to see what it's like behind the
- 4:48Speaker 4: scenes up here.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I mean, you know, I Megan, I know yours that
- 4:51Speaker 3: Jamanus may be kind of new to you, but people
- 4:54Speaker 3: running around like crazy and trying to get things straight out.
- 4:57Speaker 4: It's it's always fun in radio Cat and Dogs. Yes,
- 5:00Speaker 4: I got yeah, it's indeed.
- 5:02Speaker 3: But you guys have got a big fundraiser coming up
- 5:04Speaker 3: and night, did Monti Carlo Megan talk about that a
- 5:06Speaker 3: little bit or jimani Ei the one wants to start going.
- 5:07Speaker 8: Yeah, I'll take it off. So yeah, October eleventh, seven pm,
- 5:11Speaker 8: a night in Monte Carlo. It's our second year having
- 5:13Speaker 8: it and last year we had at Barry Hills. This
- 5:15Speaker 8: year Clay Center, so it's downtown. Everybody can access it.
- 5:18Speaker 8: But Raffle Gaming, sound auction stuff, DJ EJ and Bob
- 5:22Speaker 8: Thompson are going to be there, so you know it's
- 5:24Speaker 8: gonna be a party. Oh yeah, it'll be a good time.
- 5:26Speaker 8: It'll be a good time.
- 5:27Speaker 3: So, as you said, this is the second the second
- 5:30Speaker 3: time that you've done this particular event.
- 5:31Speaker 4: How did it go last year? Obviously it was a success.
- 5:34Speaker 9: But a beautiful event last year, and I mean our
- 5:37Speaker 9: director fund Development, Alex Mahavey, did an amazing job. She
- 5:39Speaker 9: was new to her job and we were new to
- 5:41Speaker 9: having an event outside of our annual dinner that we
- 5:44Speaker 9: have every year, so it was a learning curve for
- 5:46Speaker 9: all of us.
- 5:46Speaker 10: But it was.
- 5:47Speaker 6: It went off beautifully. It was an amazing event.
- 5:49Speaker 9: We have a lot of excitement this year of people
- 5:52Speaker 9: that attended last year, so we're very excited.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And the reason we have you on today, we'll probably
- 5:58Speaker 3: have you on is we get a little bit closer
- 5:59Speaker 3: to the event, But the reason that we have you
- 6:01Speaker 3: folks on to day is because you got a special
- 6:02Speaker 3: going on early bird tickets?
- 6:04Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 6:04Speaker 6: Early bird tip?
- 6:05Speaker 2: It's correct.
- 6:06Speaker 8: Actually tomorrow is the last day for it, so good
- 6:09Speaker 8: thing you said that too. We actually had it actually
- 6:12Speaker 8: ending last week, but just for y'all, just for the people, right,
- 6:16Speaker 8: So one hundred five dollars gets you in and also
- 6:18Speaker 8: bourbon and cigars as well as everything we just talked about,
- 6:20Speaker 8: raffle games, dancing.
- 6:22Speaker 3: But that early bird ends tomorrow, that is correct, okay?
- 6:24Speaker 3: And how do they get those early bird tickets?
- 6:26Speaker 4: Guys?
- 6:26Speaker 9: So they can go to our social media at Goodwill
- 6:29Speaker 9: kV or they can go to GOODWILLKV dot com slash
- 6:31Speaker 9: a night in Monty Carlow and get the link to
- 6:33Speaker 9: purchase tickets.
- 6:34Speaker 3: All right, you need to do that, but you need
- 6:35Speaker 3: to do it by what I guess close the business
- 6:36Speaker 3: tomorrow pretty much.
- 6:37Speaker 6: Right, we yeah, we might give you to midnight till.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Till midnight tomorrow. Okay, all right. The internet doesn't know
- 6:42Speaker 4: when closed the business is right, so you can get
- 6:44Speaker 4: it in.
- 6:44Speaker 6: When does business close?
- 6:46Speaker 4: It does not.
- 6:47Speaker 3: The Dave Island Show in five eighty live brought to
- 6:48Speaker 3: you apart by Husband's Pizza. This month that your Favoritehustans
- 6:51Speaker 3: get a large at Nitch Pepperoni pizza and an eight
- 6:53Speaker 3: inch chocolate chip cookie only twenty three ninety nine. Let's
- 6:57Speaker 3: talk about the work of Goodwill. I mean, it's a
- 7:00Speaker 3: fantastic organization. You folks are always out doing great things.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Give me an idea some of the money that's going
- 7:05Speaker 3: to be raised from this where might where maybe we
- 7:09Speaker 3: see some of these funds going.
- 7:10Speaker 6: So a lot of people know us for our stores.
- 7:12Speaker 6: They know us.
- 7:13Speaker 9: They love to find a good deal, they love to thrift.
- 7:16Speaker 9: But what a lot of people don't know as eighty
- 7:18Speaker 9: nine cents of every dollar that's spent in our stores
- 7:20Speaker 9: is going directly back into programming in your community. We
- 7:23Speaker 9: serve twenty counties in West Virginia. We have the largest
- 7:25Speaker 9: footprint in West Virginia. Have any Goodwill that has territory here,
- 7:30Speaker 9: So we're helping people through work. We're putting them into
- 7:33Speaker 9: positions in your community. We're helping them in positions in
- 7:36Speaker 9: our company and helping them achieve financial stability. When I
- 7:39Speaker 9: talk about programming, it's programs like wheels to work.
- 7:42Speaker 6: This helps individuals.
- 7:43Speaker 9: That either have barriers to employment, need public transportation if
- 7:47Speaker 9: it's available. But we all know this as West Virginia
- 7:49Speaker 9: and outside of that metro canall put them area there
- 7:52Speaker 9: isn't a lot of access to public transportation. So helping
- 7:55Speaker 9: individuals actually purchase cars certain stipulations, certain qualifications, they have
- 8:00Speaker 9: to go through a programming that teaches them financial literacy
- 8:03Speaker 9: and things of that nature. But this helps them actually
- 8:06Speaker 9: purchase a vehicle with a low monthly payment that they
- 8:08Speaker 9: can afford in their budget. Another program would be our
- 8:11Speaker 9: mission mobile. We're actually going out to them in the community,
- 8:14Speaker 9: taking our Prosperity Center on wheels, going out to a
- 8:18Speaker 9: local parking lot, a local church parking lot, something of
- 8:20Speaker 9: that nature, and helping our rural areas sign up for programming,
- 8:24Speaker 9: help them with the resume, sign up for services through
- 8:26Speaker 9: the state we are. It's literally a full prosperity center
- 8:30Speaker 9: on wheels and.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Let's talk about the areas that you serve.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I mean, we're here in the Charleston area, but you're
- 8:36Speaker 3: the Goodwill organization of what you folks do really knows
- 8:38Speaker 3: no borders.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Let's talk about the area.
- 8:39Speaker 8: So you take twenty County. I mean, we have good
- 8:41Speaker 8: Wills all of it, of course you know that. But
- 8:44Speaker 8: for us twenty County footprint, Boon, Summers, Mercer. I mean,
- 8:48Speaker 8: list goes on, but of course outlining that we have
- 8:51Speaker 8: other good Wills that aren't us, that have services as well,
- 8:54Speaker 8: so where everywhere.
- 8:55Speaker 3: And you talked about the stores, and again that's what
- 8:57Speaker 3: most people think of when they think of Goodwill and
- 8:59Speaker 3: the stores. You've opened up a few new ones over
- 9:02Speaker 3: the last couple of years. I know where I live
- 9:04Speaker 3: in Tay's Valley. That store, the store is amazing over there.
- 9:06Speaker 6: Everyone loves the Tays Valley.
- 9:08Speaker 9: That was actually the first store that we rebranded for
- 9:11Speaker 9: the new Goodwill experience. And since then, I think we're
- 9:14Speaker 9: on almost two number eight. I think you're at that
- 9:19Speaker 9: are that format that have you know, the beautiful stores
- 9:21Speaker 9: and things like that. I mean the plan is to
- 9:23Speaker 9: have all of our stores. If you are listening and
- 9:25Speaker 9: are an avid good Wolf shopper. The plan is to
- 9:27Speaker 9: have all of those stores in our footprint updated to
- 9:29Speaker 9: that over the next several.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Years, and it takes time. It takes time to get there.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Again, we're talking with Mega Deal and Jamon Schmidt from Goodwill,
- 9:36Speaker 3: primarily about their big event, This is the night in
- 9:38Speaker 3: Monte Carlo. And you mentioned about the music, I mean
- 9:41Speaker 3: DJ EJ He's out everywhere, man, he's everywhere. And Bob Thompson,
- 9:44Speaker 3: I mean, Bob is an icon in Charleston, and anytime
- 9:48Speaker 3: you get a chance to go see Bob Thompson, it's
- 9:50Speaker 3: a good night.
- 9:51Speaker 4: It's a good night.
- 9:51Speaker 9: And having more of like a private concert with Bob
- 9:54Speaker 9: Thompson that will just be solely for the VIP area,
- 9:57Speaker 9: so they will literally be able to just spend the
- 9:59Speaker 9: night with Bob tom listening to him.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Now, let's talk about corporate sponsorship. I mean, you can't
- 10:04Speaker 3: pull off an event like this if you don't have
- 10:05Speaker 3: a lot of corporate partners. Talk about those and do
- 10:08Speaker 3: we need more of the answers? Yes, I know, but
- 10:10Speaker 3: we always need more. But let's talk about the corporate sponsorship.
- 10:13Speaker 9: Yah, we are very blessed that we have several vendors
- 10:16Speaker 9: and organizations that are getting behind us, and we will
- 10:19Speaker 9: be able to thank them at the event, thank them
- 10:22Speaker 9: on social media prior. But yes, corporate sponsorships in any
- 10:25Speaker 9: event are always needed and so they can get all
- 10:28Speaker 9: that information on our social media again at GOODWILLKB dot
- 10:31Speaker 9: com forwards last night in Monte Carlo.
- 10:33Speaker 3: All right, now, give us the dates again and we'll
- 10:35Speaker 3: hit those the link for the early bird tickets. But
- 10:37Speaker 3: the date of the actual event.
- 10:38Speaker 8: Is October eleventh, seven pm and.
- 10:40Speaker 3: It's going to be at the Clay Center this year,
- 10:42Speaker 3: right conveniently located in downtown Charleston.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Hopefully we see you there too.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, absolutely wouldn't miss it, man. I mean you
- 10:48Speaker 3: got Bob Thompson, I'm.
- 10:49Speaker 4: There and you got food, you know.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Absolutely so definitely all right, and we'll have you on
- 10:54Speaker 3: again as we get closer to the event, but we
- 10:56Speaker 3: wanted to have you on this morning to talk about
- 10:58Speaker 3: the early bird tickets and again give us a link
- 11:00Speaker 3: for that, guys.
- 11:00Speaker 8: Goodwi olkv dot com or just go to Facebook if
- 11:03Speaker 8: I just on socials and then it'll'll take you there.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Anyways, all right, Megan and Jaman, I appreciate you folks
- 11:07Speaker 3: being here.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Thanks a lot.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I think your radio days done now, but you've probably
- 11:11Speaker 3: got more media hits you're doing. No, actually, you're coming
- 11:13Speaker 3: back with Woody I understand this afternoon. So yeah, all right,
- 11:17Speaker 3: So I can't say you saved the best for last
- 11:19Speaker 3: because you know what is going in the Hall of Fame.
- 11:21Speaker 3: You know that, but West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame
- 11:24Speaker 3: in October. Actually that's when the ceremony will be.
- 11:27Speaker 9: I think I may have been listening to Woody Woods
- 11:30Speaker 9: longer than he and I both want to admit.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Well, that's good stuff. That's good.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So we'll see on with the Well we'll hear you
- 11:37Speaker 3: on with Woody, I guess a little bit later on.
- 11:38Speaker 3: And again, get those early bird tickets because that offer
- 11:42Speaker 3: ends tomorrow night at midnight. The event coming up October
- 11:45Speaker 3: eleventh at the Clay Center in Charleston.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I appreciate to Megan Jaman, I appreciate you being here.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Thanks a lot. Guys, hang out with me one second.

- 14:43Speaker 3: Mayor good One out with the statement as well. Matter
- 14:46Speaker 3: of fact, the statement from Mayor good One and I
- 14:48Speaker 3: want to paraphrase it here says tremendous news that the
- 14:51Speaker 3: United States Postal Service Charleston process and a distribution center
- 14:55Speaker 3: will remain open at full capacity and receive millions in
- 14:58Speaker 3: federal funding to better serve our community. It's an essential
- 15:01Speaker 3: service for everyone in our region and will provide job
- 15:04Speaker 3: security to hundreds in our community. Great news is thanks
- 15:07Speaker 3: to the tireless efforts. This again is coming from Mayor Goodwin,
- 15:10Speaker 3: from Senator Mansion, Senator Capitol. We are fortunate in West
- 15:13Speaker 3: Virginia to have two United States Senators who will fight
- 15:15Speaker 3: for every West Virginia job and to ensure folks in
- 15:18Speaker 3: the state have the same services and opportunities as those
- 15:21Speaker 3: throughout the country. Also, a big thank you, says the
- 15:23Speaker 3: mayor to the American Postal Workers Union Local one thirty three.
- 15:26Speaker 3: They never gave up fighting to keep jobs and services
- 15:28Speaker 3: locally and we all benefit from their efforts. That is
- 15:31Speaker 3: a statement on the postal facility situation from Charleston Mayor
- 15:35Speaker 3: Amy Goodwin. That statement just released prior to the time
- 15:37Speaker 3: that I went on the show this morning. Bigley Pigli

- 15:43Speaker 3: eight Tony the Taylor text three zero four nine three
- 15:46Speaker 3: five five zero zero eighth.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Brad McIlhenny is here, Brad, good morning.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Good morning Dave, and welcome back to you. It's been
- 15:55Speaker 5: a few days since you've been back. But I was
- 15:57Speaker 5: on the last week and I tried to get the
- 15:59Speaker 5: ring of it to see if the Dale Cooper Show
- 16:02Speaker 5: went over as a as a title. And I don't
- 16:05Speaker 5: know that it took lovedale, but you.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Know, it's it's five eighty Live with Dave Allen. It's
- 16:11Speaker 3: a Dave Allen show on five eighty Live. It's you know,
- 16:14Speaker 3: it's whatever, it's whatever you wanted to be and what
- 16:17Speaker 3: however you wanted to identify for that particular day.
- 16:21Speaker 5: All right, Well on that day it was the Dale
- 16:25Speaker 5: Cooper Show.
- 16:25Speaker 14: All right.
- 16:26Speaker 5: I don't know whether this stuck all right.
- 16:27Speaker 3: So, as you mentioned, I was off on vacation last week.
- 16:30Speaker 3: So are you back in the folds now for the
- 16:32Speaker 3: Governor's briefings?
- 16:33Speaker 5: Brand Oh, I just fold. Yes. So it hit a
- 16:39Speaker 5: boiling point maybe two weeks ago, and the Governor was
- 16:44Speaker 5: asked about, well, so what is your deal about blocking
- 16:47Speaker 5: certain reporters me from the briefing? And he had some
- 16:54Speaker 5: non flattering rounds to say about me and my coverage.
- 16:58Speaker 5: I'm trying to forget that with my psychological counselor. But
- 17:04Speaker 5: the Governor Ben did say with his words, Brad is
- 17:08Speaker 5: welcome to come back. So that's the part I'm trying
- 17:11Speaker 5: to focus on, right, And so for the last couple
- 17:13Speaker 5: of weeks I have been back on. The Governor does
- 17:17Speaker 5: advise that we need to ask bad, bad, bad, bad
- 17:21Speaker 5: bad questions, but he says he doesn't necessarily expect good good, good,
- 17:26Speaker 5: good good questions, but maybe something more along the lines
- 17:30Speaker 5: of bad good, bad good bad good. So you gotta
- 17:34Speaker 5: have a bad lender advisement. But I mean, I don't
- 17:37Speaker 5: know what you and I don't necessarily think through or
- 17:41Speaker 5: categorize or do a whiteboard on whether my questions are
- 17:44Speaker 5: bad or good, but I'll I'll keep it in mind.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Well, for for goodness sake, Brad, don't say, because I
- 17:50Speaker 3: know the folks at the Governor's office listen to this
- 17:52Speaker 3: show every day. Don't do anything to screw it up now.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I mean, you know, don't come on here talk to
- 17:57Speaker 3: smack man. You know, don't take a victory lap.
- 18:00Speaker 4: All right, be greatful.
- 18:02Speaker 5: I will I will try not to. But you know,
- 18:04Speaker 5: if if history is any indicator, there will be some
- 18:08Speaker 5: reasons sometime in the future who knows about what, but
- 18:13Speaker 5: reasons to ask about things that are bad, bad, bad,
- 18:16Speaker 5: bad pass. And so I gotta I gotta lean on
- 18:19Speaker 5: my social capital while I can. You know, I will say, though,
- 18:22Speaker 5: my thought about that is, if it's good, good, good
- 18:25Speaker 5: and good good, the administration volunteers it. You don't have
- 18:29Speaker 5: to ask. Yeah, they're just gonna tell you. That's they
- 18:35Speaker 5: kind of lead to the things that they would consider,
- 18:37Speaker 5: you know, bad, bad, bad bad. You know why this
- 18:40Speaker 5: is defend that what is going on with this thing
- 18:44Speaker 5: that's not going so well? That's that's when you got
- 18:47Speaker 5: one question a week. That's let's really wind up.
- 18:49Speaker 4: You got to make it a good one.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Six A Dave Island showing five any live broad to
- 18:54Speaker 3: you A part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston
- 18:56Speaker 3: Dirty Birds. Birds wrap up or three game road series

- 19:01Speaker 3: tomorrow night. Over to go Mark Ballpark. For tickets, schedules, merchandise,
- 19:05Speaker 3: and more, visit dirty Birds baseball dot com. All right,
- 19:07Speaker 3: let's get down to business now, special session coming, yes, No.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Maybe. I mean the governor has been talking about it
- 19:17Speaker 5: and pushing for it since July first. I actually thought
- 19:22Speaker 5: it had been even longer than that, because it seems
- 19:24Speaker 5: like it's been sort of circulating conversation for so long now.
- 19:28Speaker 5: But it was July first he first brought it up.
- 19:31Speaker 5: He caught a bunch of legislators by surprise that day
- 19:34Speaker 5: by even saying, you know, I mean the the state
- 19:37Speaker 5: government had a big tax cut that went into effect
- 19:40Speaker 5: this year twenty one and a quarter percent, and then
- 19:45Speaker 5: the trigger means that another four percent is now going
- 19:50Speaker 5: to be cut. That's just automatic, based on a formula
- 19:53Speaker 5: of the legislature and the government put in place. So
- 19:55Speaker 5: that is a pretty healthy tax cut already. The governor
- 20:00Speaker 5: believes that the state has the latitude to do another
- 20:04Speaker 5: five percent, So yesterday he said, get a whiteboard after this.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Yesterday he said that this coming Monday he will announce
- 20:14Speaker 5: a special session that he believes will be late this month.
- 20:20Speaker 5: So there's a lot of build up there, but he
- 20:24Speaker 5: still wants to do it. Has gotten frustrated and the
- 20:27Speaker 5: legislators have not come on board so far, and you know,
- 20:31Speaker 5: we'll see I mean, the ideal conditions for a special
- 20:36Speaker 5: session are you go in and it's pretty clear what
- 20:40Speaker 5: you're going to do. You don't take a lot of
- 20:41Speaker 5: time about it. There's not a lot of debate, not
- 20:44Speaker 5: a lot of complication. But in this case, you know,
- 20:47Speaker 5: you've had guests on, you've had the Senate Bias Chairman on.
- 20:51Speaker 5: It is not clear that the leading lawmakers, even if
- 20:55Speaker 5: they love tax cuts, even if they want to lower
- 20:58Speaker 5: the amount of the government spending, even among those folks,
- 21:02Speaker 5: it's not clear that they believe that the state can
- 21:05Speaker 5: afford this additional five percent. At this point, Senator Tartt
- 21:10Speaker 5: will tell you, and he's going to tell Hoppy I
- 21:13Speaker 5: think here the next hour. He will tell you that
- 21:18Speaker 5: the state already has significant tax cuts, not only the
- 21:22Speaker 5: income tax cuts that are going into effect, but the
- 21:25Speaker 5: phase out of the income tax of security, the ability
- 21:31Speaker 5: to claim what you've paid on your personal property, taxes
- 21:35Speaker 5: on your income tax, reductions on your income tax when
- 21:40Speaker 5: you file UH, and then other additional expenses the government
- 21:45Speaker 5: has already taken on the phase in of Third Grade
- 21:49Speaker 5: Success Act, increased costs of people using the promise, the
- 21:54Speaker 5: Hope Scholarship for Educational opportunities outside the traditional on the
- 22:00Speaker 5: school system. But those are all things that cost money,
- 22:02Speaker 5: and they are the mill is going to come due
- 22:05Speaker 5: here in the next few years on many of those things,
- 22:08Speaker 5: and so does it truly add up? I think that
- 22:11Speaker 5: kind of uncertainty it's just difficult to wrap a special
- 22:15Speaker 5: session around it. But the governor says he's definitely going
- 22:17Speaker 5: to do it. I'm gonna announce it one day, have
- 22:20Speaker 5: it maybe later this month.
- 22:22Speaker 3: I was listening to the governor's comments Brad yesterday, and
- 22:26Speaker 3: of course we had the Toby and Edith references. It's
- 22:28Speaker 3: always a good day when you get the Toby and
- 22:30Speaker 3: Edith reference. But he talked about that a little bit,
- 22:33Speaker 3: and he seems to believe, Brad, right or wrong, that
- 22:36Speaker 3: the future of the state of West Virginia depends on
- 22:39Speaker 3: whether we eliminate the state income tax or not. Now,
- 22:42Speaker 3: others in the in the realm under the dome, like say,
- 22:46Speaker 3: as you mentioned, the aforementioned senator, Senate financier Eric Guitar,
- 22:50Speaker 3: others and you know, are kind of pumping the brakes on.
- 22:52Speaker 4: This a little bit.
- 22:52Speaker 3: But the governor thinks, Brad, that is the be all
- 22:55Speaker 3: end all to get people to come to West Virginia.
- 22:59Speaker 5: You know, yeah, I I mean I will, I will
- 23:02Speaker 5: accept that as a policy position, but you know, the
- 23:06Speaker 5: five percent doesn't get you all the way to eliminating it.
- 23:10Speaker 5: It's it's five percent more down the road. And I
- 23:15Speaker 5: guess also, you know, he's he's coming to the end
- 23:18Speaker 5: of his term. He will have had eight years, and
- 23:22Speaker 5: I think there's an argument to be made to give
- 23:24Speaker 5: the next governor a little bit of grace on state
- 23:27Speaker 5: finances and not put the next guy in the kind
- 23:30Speaker 5: of position that Justice was in when he walked in
- 23:33Speaker 5: the door with financially the patient head on the table.
- 23:37Speaker 5: You know, give give Governor Morrissey or Governor Williams a
- 23:40Speaker 5: little bit of latitude and and if they want to,
- 23:43Speaker 5: they can pursue something like this.
- 23:46Speaker 11: You know, I.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Understand I'm saying that what I'm saying borders opinion. I
- 23:51Speaker 5: understand that it is not up to me, and this
- 23:54Speaker 5: is going to be a decision made by elected leaders.
- 23:57Speaker 5: But boy, I don't know. I just think the mess
- 24:02Speaker 5: elite in your term, when you're you're term limited and
- 24:06Speaker 5: you're headed for the door, I probably would leave it
- 24:09Speaker 5: to the next guy.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Talking to Brad Backlhenny again. I want to get into
- 24:12Speaker 3: the baby dog mural controversy.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Uh.
- 24:15Speaker 3: There was a I know a statement came out from
- 24:16Speaker 3: Randall Reid Smith about it yesterday, but there was a
- 24:19Speaker 3: comment made on one of our social media pages. I
- 24:22Speaker 3: believe it was the Metro News actual Metro News Facebook
- 24:24Speaker 3: page that said that Metro News seems to be obsessed
- 24:28Speaker 3: with this story?
- 24:29Speaker 4: Are we obsessed with it?
- 24:30Speaker 2: Brad?
- 24:32Speaker 5: I think it's an interesting story. Boy, I need a break.
- 24:36Speaker 5: People people thought I was obsessed with the governor's finances.
- 24:39Speaker 5: I don't know how many things you can be obsessed
- 24:40Speaker 5: with it once.
- 24:41Speaker 3: But that's that's why you had the mental health care professional, right, Brad?
- 24:46Speaker 5: For real? For real? I mean at this point, things
- 24:49Speaker 5: keep happening front of the program. Hervey Payton filed a
- 24:52Speaker 5: lawsuit over Miss Merrill.
- 24:54Speaker 11: Uh.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Now the story is the Secretary for Arts, History and
- 24:59Speaker 5: cul Sure. Randall Reid Smith has put out a written response.
- 25:05Speaker 5: I just thought it was fair mostly a matter of
- 25:08Speaker 5: fairness and of interest to reflect what Randall Reid Smith
- 25:13Speaker 5: has said. So that was the latest one. But I
- 25:15Speaker 5: think it touches a lot of interesting things, and it's
- 25:19Speaker 5: the most prominent public building in the state. It is
- 25:24Speaker 5: the governor's beloved bulldog who he takes with them everywhere,
- 25:28Speaker 5: who serves both a cultural and a political purpose as
- 25:33Speaker 5: well as a companionship purpose. And you know, there's this
- 25:37Speaker 5: overriding question in the lawsuit about the decision making, and
- 25:42Speaker 5: if you're someone who's interested in your tax dollars and
- 25:45Speaker 5: who decides how they're used, I think it's worth thinking
- 25:48Speaker 5: about it that way. It's almost a half million dollars
- 25:52Speaker 5: of your tax dollars with a group of people who
- 25:56Speaker 5: are very nice but who very conservative you would call
- 26:00Speaker 5: unolcted bureaucrats making the final advice about what is on
- 26:06Speaker 5: that mural. And one of the things that they said
- 26:09Speaker 5: should be on it is an image of the beloved
- 26:13Speaker 5: dog belonging to their moms. So I think all of
- 26:17Speaker 5: those things, the public place, the prominence of the dog,
- 26:22Speaker 5: the decision making about your tax dollars, and who made
- 26:28Speaker 5: those decisions and whether they were appropriate, I mean it was.
- 26:31Speaker 5: It's a process that has gone on. They we're going
- 26:36Speaker 5: to reachpect points to decisions of the Capitol Building Commission
- 26:39Speaker 5: in the late mansion early Tomlin administration as being the
- 26:44Speaker 5: basis for doing this twenty twenty four mural that that
- 26:50Speaker 5: project was at one point. At one point it got
- 26:52Speaker 5: a brief go ahead and then it got a cancelation.
- 26:56Speaker 5: So was it all appropriate just in twenty twenty to
- 27:00Speaker 5: pick it up and get rolling again. I think it's interesting.
- 27:04Speaker 5: I understand that not every news story is interesting to
- 27:09Speaker 5: every person out there, but I think the corners.
- 27:13Speaker 3: And again it's I think it's more about the process
- 27:16Speaker 3: than what it is the actual art. All right, before
- 27:18Speaker 3: we let you go, West Virginia poll Rex Repasses has
- 27:22Speaker 3: been on hoppy a whole lot. He's on again today
- 27:24Speaker 3: with more information, but one facet of the West Virginia
- 27:26Speaker 3: Metro newspole came out that said a great number of
- 27:30Speaker 3: West Virginians Brad don't care about the governor's financial issues
- 27:35Speaker 3: or they.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Don't know about it.
- 27:37Speaker 3: I mean, it was a striking Okay, if you don't care,
- 27:39Speaker 3: that's fine, But to have so many people, and I
- 27:42Speaker 3: forget what the exact number was, to say that they
- 27:44Speaker 3: hadn't heard about.
- 27:45Speaker 4: It, that's a little bit. That's a little bit troubling.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Maybe we should put down the TikTok machine there and
- 27:51Speaker 3: an actual actually follow news. But what do you think
- 27:56Speaker 3: about a such a large number of people, Brad saying that,
- 28:00Speaker 3: but you don't care.
- 28:00Speaker 9: About it, man.
- 28:02Speaker 5: This is the other thing that I'm supposedly obsessed about
- 28:04Speaker 5: it and more indication that so few people care. This
- 28:10Speaker 5: is why I need the mental health professional. But yes,
- 28:14Speaker 5: it was. I try to find the numbers. Sixteen percent,
- 28:19Speaker 5: so they've heard nothing about the governor's financial problems. A
- 28:25Speaker 5: little less than half forty seven percent, so they have
- 28:28Speaker 5: heard a little. So I don't know how much a
- 28:30Speaker 5: little is. That's that's kind of a word that's in
- 28:32Speaker 5: the ear of the boulder. But I've heard a little
- 28:35Speaker 5: and then really just thirty eight percent, so they've heard
- 28:37Speaker 5: a lot, you know, maybe a different in media consumption.
- 28:41Speaker 5: So many people are now now think they're getting their
- 28:44Speaker 5: news off of social media or they are mostly tuned
- 28:48Speaker 5: in to their favorite cable network, and the newspapers have
- 28:54Speaker 5: provided a significant amount of coverage. I think you've probably
- 28:57Speaker 5: get less if you are just watching on local television.
- 29:01Speaker 5: I think you're you know, probably in fairness FROMY do
- 29:04Speaker 5: a good job truth side, but you get a lot
- 29:07Speaker 5: of weather and traffic with the local TV news, and
- 29:10Speaker 5: so you know, if that's your in source you may
- 29:12Speaker 5: not be getting these stories about justices finances, and you know,
- 29:16Speaker 5: then finally it is it's a little bit of a
- 29:19Speaker 5: hard sell for people who are busy to to try
- 29:24Speaker 5: to tell them why it should matter to them, why
- 29:29Speaker 5: justices finances affect Toby and needed. So that's a matter
- 29:34Speaker 5: of interpretation for the listeners or the readers. You're right
- 29:38Speaker 5: on the whole. Most people said either they'd heard only
- 29:42Speaker 5: a little or they'd heard nothing. And it certainly has
- 29:46Speaker 5: not affected Governor Justice's popularity. His popularity is at an
- 29:49Speaker 5: all time high and he appears ready to just sail
- 29:53Speaker 5: into the US sent What.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Are you working on today, Brad? Before we let you go,
- 29:57Speaker 4: what's on the gen? What's on the white board today
- 29:59Speaker 4: for Brad?
- 30:00Speaker 5: Yeah? Well, so coming up next. The next thing I
- 30:02Speaker 5: gotta do is I need to listen very carefully to
- 30:06Speaker 5: Hoppies interviews with Senate Financial Sharon Tarr in House Speaker Handshaw,
- 30:12Speaker 5: because I'm trying to get the vibe of what to
- 30:14Speaker 5: expect during this special session. Again, I think the majority
- 30:20Speaker 5: in the state legislature are pro tax cut, are our
- 30:24Speaker 5: pro limited government, but there's already tax cuts and I
- 30:30Speaker 5: am just not convinced that they're really going to warm
- 30:32Speaker 5: to this additional five percent that seems to be based
- 30:36Speaker 5: mostly on a gut feed.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Brad, I'm glad you're back, man, I'm glad you're back
- 30:40Speaker 3: in the fold again. But don't do anything coming on
- 30:42Speaker 3: a little silly radio shows like mine to screw that up.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Okay, it's gonna be good bad, good, bad, good bad,
- 30:49Speaker 5: never bad bad, bad, bad bad.
- 30:50Speaker 4: All right, Brad, we'll talk soon, man, Thanks a lot.

- 36:18Speaker 3: would be remiss if I did not mention the birthday
- 36:20Speaker 3: yesterday one of my favorite people in the world, and
- 36:24Speaker 3: that is the mayor of Ripley, Carolyn Rader. Her birthday
- 36:27Speaker 3: was yesterday. I don't know how old she is. I'm
- 36:28Speaker 3: not breaching that. I'm not going to ask, but her
- 36:31Speaker 3: birthday was yesterday. And I will say this about Mayor Raider.
- 36:33Speaker 3: There is not a mayor in the state of West
- 36:35Speaker 3: Virginia that loves her city more than Mayor Raider does.
- 36:38Speaker 3: So happy birthday, Mayor. I know she listens up in Ripley.
- 36:41Speaker 3: And I appreciate you, appreciate your supporting over the years.
- 36:45Speaker 3: LANs Wheeler's here, Connan any Commission President, how are.
- 36:47Speaker 4: You man doing well?
- 36:48Speaker 6: Thanks for having me day.
- 36:49Speaker 3: I want to start with a little breaking news and
- 36:51Speaker 3: I'm sure you are are aware of it, but I
- 36:53Speaker 3: want to get your comment about it. And that is
- 36:56Speaker 3: the news broke within the last hour and hour and
- 36:58Speaker 3: a half that the postal facility in Charleston we will
- 37:00Speaker 3: not be closing. Yeah, I know that Senator Mansion, Mayor Goodwes,
- 37:04Speaker 3: Senator Capital all out with statements on that. But as
- 37:06Speaker 3: president of the Kanawk County Commission, again breaking news, I
- 37:09Speaker 3: want to give you an opportunity to talk about your
- 37:12Speaker 3: reaction to them.
- 37:13Speaker 15: We did it.
- 37:14Speaker 18: I mean, this was a fight that we've been fighting
- 37:16Speaker 18: for a long time. We knew this for about six
- 37:19Speaker 18: eight months now at this point, we were alerted through
- 37:23Speaker 18: actually Shelley Moore Capito's office, that the US Department of
- 37:27Speaker 18: Postal Services was thinking about closing the disposition center here
- 37:31Speaker 18: in Charleston. Now that was concerning because not only is
- 37:35Speaker 18: that jobs good paying jobs for a lot of West
- 37:37Speaker 18: Virginians Knell County and Charleston's who you know, need that
- 37:40Speaker 18: money to put food on the table for their kids,
- 37:42Speaker 18: but it's also a service to everyone here who uses
- 37:45Speaker 18: the post office, who receives mail. You know, we have
- 37:48Speaker 18: a lot of elderly that you know, they still pay
- 37:50Speaker 18: their utilities with checks and that's how they do it,
- 37:53Speaker 18: and that's how they're comfortable to wing it without that service.
- 37:56Speaker 18: You know, a couple of days late. Now we're talking fees,
- 37:59Speaker 18: we're talking charges, you know, credit cards and big businesses
- 38:03Speaker 18: outside of the state of Western I don't care if
- 38:05Speaker 18: it's a day late, they're going to charge you. And
- 38:06Speaker 18: I think that service is really the reason why we
- 38:09Speaker 18: fought so hard for this. Thank you for Senator Mansion,
- 38:12Speaker 18: Senator Shelley Moore Capito for fighting on the federal side
- 38:16Speaker 18: of this. I know Mayor Goodwin has been in conversations
- 38:19Speaker 18: the County Commission with Commissioner slot Ni, Commissioner Slango, myself
- 38:22Speaker 18: have been sending letters after letters urging for this center
- 38:26Speaker 18: to stay open and to get that news that it
- 38:28Speaker 18: will stay open. And not only will it stay open,
- 38:31Speaker 18: but the federal government is promising millions of dollars in upgrades.
- 38:35Speaker 18: So now we're going to be talking hopefully faster service,
- 38:37Speaker 18: better service, and we're also talking more jobs all around.
- 38:41Speaker 18: This is incredible and a lot of times people see
- 38:43Speaker 18: these stories and they think this isn't really that big
- 38:45Speaker 18: of a deal, is it.
- 38:46Speaker 3: It's a very big win, is what it is. Big,
- 38:49Speaker 3: not only the Kanaal Valley, but really all of it.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Because didn't I read and you'd probably know this more
- 38:54Speaker 3: than I would that a great, a great percentage of
- 38:58Speaker 3: the mail that goes through West Virginia and general comes
- 39:00Speaker 3: to that distribution center.
- 39:02Speaker 18: Not just Canau Valley, No, it's West Virginia and it's
- 39:04Speaker 18: even the region itself. You know, we are kind of
- 39:06Speaker 18: in a position to where if you're bringing mail through
- 39:09Speaker 18: the from the west of the country, so we're talking
- 39:12Speaker 18: about Utah and Nevada, things like that, it's got to
- 39:14Speaker 18: come to a center, to a stop, and then it's
- 39:17Speaker 18: distributed out. We're kind of that hub because of the
- 39:20Speaker 18: geographical location we're in. So this was going to not
- 39:22Speaker 18: just affect West Virginians. This is going to affect our
- 39:26Speaker 18: entire eastern region and the way that they were going
- 39:29Speaker 18: to change up the system. So having that here is
- 39:32Speaker 18: going to help all West Virginians, whether you live in
- 39:34Speaker 18: Kannall County or not. And this is going to be
- 39:36Speaker 18: a service that we're going to continue to be able
- 39:38Speaker 18: to bring to everyone and making sure that the mail
- 39:41Speaker 18: is ran on time.
- 39:42Speaker 3: And let's don't discount the role that the public played
- 39:46Speaker 3: in this as well, because there were public hearings held
- 39:48Speaker 3: and the public really showed out.
- 39:49Speaker 4: They said emails, they did letters.
- 39:50Speaker 3: So we want to give our elected officials a credit,
- 39:53Speaker 3: but let's also don't forget what the general public did.
- 39:56Speaker 14: Absolutely.
- 39:57Speaker 18: I think the first time that they had the public hearing,
- 39:59Speaker 18: it was a standing, tons of people coming in. And
- 40:02Speaker 18: again it wasn't elected officials, it wasn't members of the
- 40:05Speaker 18: union for the post Office. This was individuals coming out
- 40:08Speaker 18: concerned understanding how crucial this would be if they were
- 40:12Speaker 18: to remove it and eliminate that here in Charleston. So again,
- 40:15Speaker 18: the big win of this is not only are we
- 40:17Speaker 18: going to keep the facility and continue that quality of service,
- 40:20Speaker 18: We're going to be able to have more jobs from
- 40:22Speaker 18: the upgrades and the million of dollars it's going to
- 40:24Speaker 18: come in.
- 40:25Speaker 4: For Commission President Lance Wheeler.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Last time that I had you on the show was
- 40:29Speaker 3: I would have been two weeks ago tomorrow, and that
- 40:31Speaker 3: was the day that you were talking about the opening
- 40:34Speaker 3: of the new Hatfa McCoy trail project and Tornado. How
- 40:37Speaker 3: did everything go? I was on vacation last week, So
- 40:39Speaker 3: how did it go?
- 40:40Speaker 8: Well?
- 40:40Speaker 15: How did your vacation Goah?
- 40:41Speaker 4: It went fine, that's great.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I had good food, good drink, that's a good veg.
- 40:45Speaker 3: And spend time with my wife.
- 40:47Speaker 18: That's a vacation for well, that's an excuse to miss
- 40:49Speaker 18: out what happened. But it has been incredible with what
- 40:52Speaker 18: we've seen with the hat FA McCoy opening up here
- 40:54Speaker 18: in Kenall County. I mean, you know, I came on
- 40:56Speaker 18: here promising that this was going.
- 40:57Speaker 15: To be big.
- 40:58Speaker 18: It has been big, and I've got the numbers to
- 41:00Speaker 18: prove it. Just over Memorial Day weekend, which Dave, was
- 41:02Speaker 18: a beautiful weekend here in West Virginia, here in Kearnell County.
- 41:05Speaker 18: It was very nice weather, not too hot, not too cold, sunny.
- 41:09Speaker 18: We had seventy Labor Day yes, excuse me, like a
- 41:12Speaker 18: Labor Day weekend. We had seventy in state tickets sold,
- 41:17Speaker 18: trail tickets sold just that weekend. We had twenty five
- 41:21Speaker 18: out of state tickets sold just that weekend. And we
- 41:25Speaker 18: saw people from Ohio, We saw somebody from Virginia. We
- 41:28Speaker 18: saw somebody from New York again, and then we also
- 41:31Speaker 18: saw somebody from Utah. We had an influencer from Utah
- 41:36Speaker 18: who flew into Charleston, West Virginia. He flew his bike
- 41:39Speaker 18: in as well, and he was able to go out
- 41:41Speaker 18: in the trails and he videotaped it and he put
- 41:43Speaker 18: it up on his social media and he talked about
- 41:45Speaker 18: how great it is that these trails.
- 41:46Speaker 4: We're attracting influencers now, Commissioned President.
- 41:49Speaker 18: That is that's where we're at right now. Is that
- 41:51Speaker 18: that's how how much people really are we're begging for
- 41:54Speaker 18: a single dedicated track for dirt bikes only. This is
- 41:57Speaker 18: how much the entire nation is excited to have something
- 42:00Speaker 18: like this. This shows that it's a state of the
- 42:02Speaker 18: art trail system. Hat Fam McCoy and their staff have
- 42:05Speaker 18: done an excellent job putting this together. Everyone that I've
- 42:08Speaker 18: talked to who's went out there and right it said
- 42:10Speaker 18: these things these trails are, they're they're good. They're difficult,
- 42:13Speaker 18: but even a writer who's new to this can also
- 42:16Speaker 18: have a fun experience.
- 42:17Speaker 5: Uh.
- 42:18Speaker 18: And in their words they said, these trails are gnarly.
- 42:21Speaker 18: That was their words, not mine.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Gnarly, Ryan, They're gnarly.
- 42:24Speaker 18: That's how That's how you know we're getting to the
- 42:27Speaker 18: youth and giving a service that they're able to enjoy.
- 42:30Speaker 18: I mean, this is just wonderful. And what they're doing
- 42:32Speaker 18: is they're looking for hotels, they're looking for restaurants.
- 42:34Speaker 4: You know.
- 42:35Speaker 18: Boge's we talked about earlier. Boge's is right there next
- 42:38Speaker 18: to Big Ben our golf course that's three minutes away.
- 42:40Speaker 18: I talked to their owner and I said, how excited
- 42:43Speaker 18: are you? He went, can we get the Can we
- 42:44Speaker 18: get them to come to the dirt bikes to our facility.
- 42:48Speaker 18: I said, no, I don't think that's going to affect them.
- 42:50Speaker 18: But they are already looking for restaurants, They're already looking
- 42:53Speaker 18: for shops, They're already looking for things to do here
- 42:56Speaker 18: in Keannall County. And these are not just people from
- 42:59Speaker 18: Nitro Puttnam County.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Yeah, these are.
- 43:01Speaker 18: People from all across the nation who are coming to
- 43:04Speaker 18: Kanall County enjoying their time, spending this weekend on for
- 43:07Speaker 18: their vacation here, and then they're spending their hard earned
- 43:10Speaker 18: money at our local businesses. I think that's just wonderful.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Well, and I've to talk about my personal experience. I
- 43:16Speaker 3: was in on some of the early meetings of the
- 43:17Speaker 3: hat Fil McCoy Trail when it was being developed in
- 43:19Speaker 3: the nineteen nineties, and at the time, a lot of people,
- 43:22Speaker 3: including myself.
- 43:23Speaker 4: Are like, I don't know whether this thing's going to
- 43:25Speaker 4: be that big or not.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Well we were wrong. And again these people that come
- 43:29Speaker 3: in that ride these trails, whether it's UTV's ATVs, whether
- 43:33Speaker 3: it's mountain bikes, whether it's it's the two wheel motorcycles, whatever.
- 43:38Speaker 3: These people that come in, this is not an inexpensive sport.
- 43:41Speaker 3: They spend lots of money when they're here. They have
- 43:44Speaker 3: to be during the during the months, like once we
- 43:47Speaker 3: do the time change, whatever, they have to be off
- 43:49Speaker 3: the trail by dark, which is like five point fifteen
- 43:51Speaker 3: or so. So they're not probably not going to go
- 43:54Speaker 3: back and just hang out at their cabin or their room.
- 43:56Speaker 3: They're going to go hit up some local bars. They're
- 43:57Speaker 3: going to go hit up some local restaurants, They're going
- 43:59Speaker 3: to go shopping. That's where the real money commissioner on
- 44:02Speaker 3: these things comes in.
- 44:03Speaker 18: Yeah, and we're seeing it already just from the soft
- 44:07Speaker 18: opening and then over Liberty Weekend. I mean, we're seeing
- 44:10Speaker 18: the amount of people coming in and we haven't even
- 44:13Speaker 18: been able to really truly advertise this. I've talked to
- 44:16Speaker 18: a lot of people who've called my office saying, I'm excited.
- 44:18Speaker 18: I just learned that this is open. We're scheduling to
- 44:21Speaker 18: come in as soon as we can. So we've got
- 44:23Speaker 18: a lot of people, not just from what we saw
- 44:25Speaker 18: over the weekend, but we're seeing a lot of people
- 44:27Speaker 18: who are already scheduling their vacations, their weekends, their nights
- 44:31Speaker 18: to come to Kennall County just for this trail system.
- 44:33Speaker 18: And like you said, when they're here, they're not just
- 44:35Speaker 18: getting off the bike and going and riding the trails
- 44:38Speaker 18: and then going home. They're staying the night. They're enjoying
- 44:41Speaker 18: time with their family. I mean, I've seen people from
- 44:44Speaker 18: all ages already going out on these trails, anywhere from
- 44:47Speaker 18: eight years old all the way up to in their
- 44:50Speaker 18: sixties and seventies, just enjoying these trails, having a great
- 44:53Speaker 18: time and enjoying the great outdoor experience that us West
- 44:56Speaker 18: Virginians know about our West Virginia. Here, that's just an
- 44:59Speaker 18: appl incredible thing, and I think that it's going to
- 45:01Speaker 18: be great for the economy and great for people to
- 45:04Speaker 18: get out and enjoy something that's different.
- 45:06Speaker 4: We got eight minutes away from Tim.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Can I ask you to stick around through the break
- 45:08Speaker 3: absolutely all right, because I got some other things I

- 48:01Speaker 3: is here. Tex says the postal facility win is a
- 48:03Speaker 3: huge win. It secures the financial stability of hundreds, if
- 48:06Speaker 3: not thousands, of families. That happened because of the tremendous
- 48:09Speaker 3: public pressure. The lesson here is don't let unelected government
- 48:13Speaker 3: bureaucrats push you around. You're the boss, not Then when
- 48:15Speaker 3: you act like it, things get done.
- 48:17Speaker 15: I could agree more.
- 48:19Speaker 4: I mean absolutely pretty good text.
- 48:21Speaker 3: All right, So let's talk about this cleanup. We got
- 48:23Speaker 3: a cleanup going on here in Kanaan count and get
- 48:25Speaker 3: into that a little bit.
- 48:25Speaker 18: Well, we get calls for two issues. It's the most
- 48:29Speaker 18: calls we get all year round. The first one is
- 48:31Speaker 18: when is Halloween, which we've already determined Halloween's going to
- 48:34Speaker 18: be October thirty first, actually on Halloween, which is how
- 48:37Speaker 18: I've always supported it from six to eight. The second
- 48:40Speaker 18: one is when are the cleanups? The cleanups are very
- 48:44Speaker 18: popular obviously, you know, we get a lot of people
- 48:45Speaker 18: who are interested in being able to clean up their yards,
- 48:48Speaker 18: clean up their garages and get rid of things because
- 48:51Speaker 18: it is difficult with the waste management we have here
- 48:54Speaker 18: being able to get rid of some of these large items.
- 48:56Speaker 18: So this is a service that the County Commission has
- 48:58Speaker 18: provided for years where we have these clean ups and
- 49:00Speaker 18: you can bring just about anything. This weekend, we're going
- 49:03Speaker 18: to have the first fall clean up. Now, Dave, I've
- 49:06Speaker 18: always said this before, when's the best time to start
- 49:08Speaker 18: spring cleanup? Started in the fall?
- 49:10Speaker 4: In the fall? Again? Ready for it?
- 49:11Speaker 18: Yeah, And we're going to have it right here in
- 49:13Speaker 18: this weekend. It's going to be at the Elk The
- 49:15Speaker 18: in Elkview at the old Hoover High School site, September seventh,
- 49:19Speaker 18: this week, this Saturday, we're going to do it from
- 49:22Speaker 18: six to eight six am to excuse me, eight am
- 49:26Speaker 18: to four pm. We changed the times around, but it's
- 49:29Speaker 18: going to be from eight to four and we're going
- 49:32Speaker 18: to be asking everyone to come out. Things that you
- 49:34Speaker 18: can bring, just about anything. It's actually easier to say
- 49:37Speaker 18: what you can't.
- 49:38Speaker 4: That was was going to say, commission, what can't you take?
- 49:40Speaker 16: Now?
- 49:41Speaker 18: Chemicals, hazardous waste, oils, paints, things like that you can't take.
- 49:47Speaker 18: But if you want to bring a refrigerator, you want
- 49:49Speaker 18: to bring scrap metal, you want to bring trash bags
- 49:52Speaker 18: of trash tires. We work with the West Virginia Deep
- 49:57Speaker 18: and reprogram to where we can actually recycle these tires.
- 50:00Speaker 18: That's always a big one is how do I get
- 50:01Speaker 18: rid of these tires? You know, I've got them all,
- 50:03Speaker 18: got four sets from my wife because she goes from
- 50:06Speaker 18: winter tires to the general tires. And now I've got
- 50:09Speaker 18: these tires and I don't know what to do with them.
- 50:10Speaker 18: We'll come bring them down this weekend at the old
- 50:12Speaker 18: Hoover High School site and we'll get you taken care of.
- 50:15Speaker 18: Get it cleaned up. You know. I've seen people come
- 50:17Speaker 18: with a trailer and a boat, an old boat just
- 50:21Speaker 18: want to said, we don't you know, we don't want
- 50:22Speaker 18: it anymore. It's been stuck in the yard. We don't
- 50:24Speaker 18: know what to do with it, you know, And we've
- 50:27Speaker 18: taken it and we've been able to recycle it. So
- 50:30Speaker 18: this is a service that we're able to provide. It's
- 50:32Speaker 18: something that people really enjoy. And not only is it
- 50:34Speaker 18: something that helps out some of our citizens here in
- 50:36Speaker 18: Kennell County and getting cleaned up, but it also prevents
- 50:39Speaker 18: trash from being on the side of the road, it
- 50:41Speaker 18: prevents tires from being in the rivers, and that's, you know,
- 50:44Speaker 18: environmentally something we don't want. So being able to offer
- 50:46Speaker 18: these free services over the fall in the spring, I
- 50:50Speaker 18: think really helps with our cleanups in making sure that
- 50:52Speaker 18: we're keeping Kinal County clean.
- 50:54Speaker 3: Now, Commissioner, this was going to be at the old
- 50:56Speaker 3: Herbert Hoover High School. It's primarily designed for residents of
- 50:59Speaker 3: that area because you've got other.
- 51:00Speaker 4: Areas or it's open anybody. Okay, they want to actually
- 51:04Speaker 4: take the time to come up there, they.
- 51:05Speaker 18: Can, Yeah, anyone who comes. It is free for anybody. So,
- 51:09Speaker 18: as I always say, if it's free for me, it's
- 51:11Speaker 18: free for you. This event's free for everyone. We won't
- 51:13Speaker 18: there's no charge. You just come in, no matter where
- 51:16Speaker 18: you live here in Kenannwall County. You pull up, we'll
- 51:18Speaker 18: get you designated in the right location, we'll unload your
- 51:22Speaker 18: your truck or your trailer, whatever you've brought, and then
- 51:25Speaker 18: we'll get it all cleaned up. And you know, there's
- 51:27Speaker 18: not a limit to how many times you can come in.
- 51:29Speaker 18: Today we've got some people who come three four times
- 51:32Speaker 18: throughout the day, just you know, making those rounds getting
- 51:34Speaker 18: things cleaned up. I think that that's an excellent way
- 51:38Speaker 18: to help clean up the county. And I think this
- 51:39Speaker 18: is an excellent service and it's something that's very popular
- 51:42Speaker 18: with the people here in Canal.
- 51:44Speaker 4: And how many of these do you have? How many areas?
- 51:46Speaker 18: So we're going to do three this fall. The first
- 51:48Speaker 18: one is this weekend at the old Herbert High School
- 51:50Speaker 18: there in Elkview. The second one is going to be
- 51:53Speaker 18: September twenty first at the South Charleston at the intersection
- 51:56Speaker 18: of C Street and Fourth Avenue, that's the one behind
- 51:59Speaker 18: the speedway. And then October fifth, Cavin Creek behind the
- 52:02Speaker 18: Go Mark.
- 52:02Speaker 4: All right, here's what we'll do.
- 52:03Speaker 3: We'll have you on before each of those to remind
- 52:04Speaker 3: people how's that. But again, this one is an LF
- 52:07Speaker 3: you at the old Herbert Hoover High School eight to
- 52:09Speaker 3: four on Saturday. Yep, mister whil I appreciate you being
