- 2:20Hey sis, welcome back to another episode of Girl Date the Good Guy. It's your girl, Emily.
- 2:26I want you to know I am going to be putting out bonus episodes here and there,
- 2:31because lately I've felt the Holy Spirit tugging on my heart to speak on certain
- 2:35things, to release certain messages that some of you need to hear right now.
- 2:39So expect some bonus episodes dropping when the Spirit leads.
- 2:44All right, sis, let's get into today's show.
- 2:47Recently, I listened to Justin Bieber's Swag 2 album, and yes,
- 2:52I'm a Christian, and yes, I listen to music like that because we're human here.
- 2:55And this is not about a religion.
- 2:58This is about relationship.
- 3:00And I love music. Music has always been my second language.
- 3:05Before Christ, I was a singer-songwriter. I actually released an EP on Apple
- 3:10iTunes back in the day called Love, Sex, and Fire.
- 3:14I've written other songs, too, ones I never released.
- 3:18There's one in particular called You're Gonna Wish I Never Said Goodbye.
- 3:22Maybe one day I'll share that with you. It was very much a breakup, move on kind of song.
- 3:27But anyways, back to what I was saying. When I heard this song,
- 3:31Open Up Your Heart, something shifted in me.
- 3:34And instead of hearing it as a romantic song, I started to picture God singing it to me.
- 3:41Maybe not every lyric, but the part where he sings, Open Up Your Heart,
- 3:46Tell Me What You're Feeling, Open Up Your Heart for Me Tonight.
- 3:49But sis, I totally see God singing this to you.
- 3:55When I looked up the meaning of this song, one description said it like this.
- 4:00It's a plea for intimacy and deep connection, moving beyond surface level interaction
- 4:06to understand what the partner is truly feeling.
- 4:09And instantly I thought, that is God.
- 4:12That's God with his daughters saying, open up your heart. Tell me what you're really feeling.
- 4:20He truly wants to know you, sis. not the version of you that's performing,
- 4:25not the version of you that's holding it all together, but the real you.
- 4:30You. He wants to love you. Yes, you.
- 4:33And he wants to heal the broken pieces of your heart.
- 4:37And says, hear me when I say this, God also has a man for you who will want to do the same thing.
- 4:44But first, God needs access to your heart.
- 4:48It's incredible how the more I let got in, the more my heart opened,
- 4:54the more it healed, and the more it changed me forever.
- 4:58I don't love from survival anymore. I love from a healed heart,
- 5:03able to love deeply, but with boundaries and standards.
- 5:08And that only came because I let God sing over me first.
- 5:13I let him see me first i
- 5:16let him touch the places of my heart that i kept closed for so long during my
- 5:2310 years of celibacy i was still in protection mode and honestly rightfully
- 5:28so i was a single mom i have two beautiful daughters you might not know that about me but now you do.
- 5:36In that season, being a single mother, as that being my calling at the time,
- 5:41I still had my narcissistic husband, ex-husband, in my life because he was the father of my children.
- 5:47So my heart stayed clenched.
- 5:50Even though we divorced back in 2012, he still had a financial hold on me.
- 5:56And at one point, God asked me to take a massive leap of faith,
- 6:01not just a small step, but a huge jump.
- 6:05I had to leave everything behind,
- 6:07including my daughters. And I'll share more about that story later.
- 6:10But I literally left it all in obedience.
- 6:14It was one of the hardest things I'd ever done.
- 6:18I remember going to a client's house one day, and she handed me a book called
- 6:23Just Enough Light for the Step I'm On.
- 6:25I read that book in three days. And by the end of it, I knew exactly what God was asking me to do.
- 6:32Unfortunately, my narcissistic ex wouldn't allow me to take my children.
- 6:36Control does that. But in order for me to get out, I had to let it all go and jump.
- 6:44And sis, God has been putting my life back together piece by piece ever since.
- 6:50He is such a faithful father.
- 6:53And here's the truth. When you've been disappointed enough, hurt enough,
- 6:57when you've prayed and waited and watched things fall apart, which I did for 10 years.
- 7:03Your heart learns to survive instead of surrender.
- 7:07And during that journey, God gently said something to me that I'll never forget.
- 7:13Daughter, you keep asking me to bless you, but you won't let me touch the places
- 7:18that are still bracing for loss. That was real.
- 7:22That's when I realized God's goodness wasn't missing.
- 7:26My heart was just really closed.
- 7:29And a closed heart is actually a wounded heart. Your guardedness didn't come
- 7:34from rebellion. It came from pain.
- 7:37Proverbs 4.23 says, Guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.
- 7:42But guarding your heart does not mean sealing it shut forever.
- 7:46God isn't asking you to open your heart to unsafe people. He's asking you to open it to Him.
- 7:52Because you can't receive healing, peace, or joy in places you won't let God enter.
- 7:59So instead of saying, God, I'm fine, try saying, God, here's what still hurts.
- 8:06Expose that so he can heal it. God's goodness requires trust, not control.
- 8:13Many of us say we trust God, but what we truly trust is our ability to manage disappointment.
- 8:21In Psalms 84.11 says, No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
- 8:27If God is good, and He is, then opening your heart is not dangerous. It's an act of faith.
- 8:36You cannot experience God's goodness while preparing for heartbreak at the same time.
- 8:40Release the need to predict outcomes. Let God be responsible for the results.
- 8:47Jeremiah 29 11 reminds us, For I know the plans I have for you,
- 8:51plans to prosper you, not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.
- 8:58God always heals before he fills.
- 9:01He doesn't rush your heart. He restores it. He doesn't say, get over it. He says, come to me.
- 9:09Psalm 147.3 tells us, he heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
- 9:15You don't have to be fully healed to be loved, but healing makes room for joy.
- 9:21Ask God what part of my heart still needs your tenderness, Lord,
- 9:24and open that part to him.
- 9:27Opening your heart is an act of obedience. Keeping it closed may feel safe,
- 9:33but obedience sometimes feels vulnerable.
- 9:36God's goodness flows where surrender lives. Closed hearts block connection,
- 9:41not just with people, but with God.
- 9:44Choose softness over self-protection. Let God retrain your heart.
- 9:50You're worth it, sis. So today, gently ask yourself, where did I stop expecting good things from God?
- 9:58Where did survival replace surrender?
- 10:02God isn't asking you to rush here. He's asking you to trust him enough to open
- 10:08the door again. Let's pray together.
- 10:10God, I give you permission to open my heart again.
- 10:15Heal what closed.
- 10:18Restore what broke. and help me believe that your goodness is still for me. Now sit with him.
- 10:27No fixing, no striving. Just be in the presence of your father.
- 10:32God is not done blessing you. He's not done restoring you.
- 10:36And he is absolutely not finished being good to you.
- 10:41Open your heart, not to the world, not to shortcuts, not to fear, but to him.
- 10:48Until next time, remember, you are chosen, you are protected,
- 10:51you are deeply loved, and you are becoming the woman who can receive everything
- 10:56God has prepared for her.
- 10:59He has so much goodness for you, sis. It's time that you believe that again.
- 11:04I love you bunches, and be on the lookout for more of these bonus episodes. Talk to you soon.
- 11:12Sis, you did that. You showed up for your healing and that is royal energy.
- 11:17If this episode challenged you, grew you, or called you higher,
- 11:21share it with another sister who's ready to reclaim her crown too.
- 11:24And if you've got 30 seconds, it would bless me big if you'd leave a review on Apple Podcast.
- 11:30It helps more women step into their royal identity and join the Good Guys Society movement.
- 11:35Until next time, keep your crown on, your standard tie, and your heart in royal alignment.
