- 0:23Speaker 2: the rain last night. Finally got a good.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Amount of brain and absolutely it.
- 0:28Speaker 4: Was much needed.
- 0:31Speaker 2: A little less wind, but the rain, and there was
- 0:33Speaker 2: some stuff always comes with that in springtime in Oklahoma.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You get then well then we'll probably get real cold
- 0:40Speaker 2: and then real hot and then rain some more.
- 0:42Speaker 4: That's that's that's what we're in for springtime.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And I got my friend Scott Carmichael and Katie Wilson
- 0:49Speaker 2: from the Youth and Family Services of Washington County.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Welcome to the.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Show to car Talk's so glad to have you guys
- 0:57Speaker 2: here and uh uh.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Learn more about what's going on this year.
- 1:01Speaker 2: This is a big year for Youth and Family Services
- 1:04Speaker 2: fiftieth anniversary, and you know, it's a great honor to
- 1:10Speaker 2: have such an important organization that's part of the fabric
- 1:14Speaker 2: of our community that creates that support network for people
- 1:18Speaker 2: that are in need, and.
- 1:22Speaker 4: You guys have done that now for five decades.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Congratulations absolutely, Yes.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Yeah, fifty years is a long time to be in
- 1:29Speaker 5: an amazing community like this. We're very best blessed to
- 1:32Speaker 5: continue to serve the youth and families of this wonderful
- 1:36Speaker 5: community and just excited to celebrate fifty years with everybody.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and you've got some celebrating to do. You're going
- 1:43Speaker 2: to have an event, a race, I.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Guess yes, Yeah, June twenty seventh, we are going to
- 1:48Speaker 5: have a five k and a one mile fun run,
- 1:53Speaker 5: and it's going to be a glow run. It's actually
- 1:55Speaker 5: going to be in the evening time, so we're going
- 1:57Speaker 5: to light people up and have fun running. It starts
- 2:00Speaker 5: at eight o'clock PM at Unity Square and the one
- 2:05Speaker 5: mile will start just thirty minutes after that, from seven
- 2:09Speaker 5: to eleven at Unity Square.
- 2:10Speaker 3: We are just going to.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Have a huge celebration. So whether you sign up for
- 2:13Speaker 5: the race or not, we're going to have a huge
- 2:15Speaker 5: celebration in that space to just enjoy the fact that
- 2:18Speaker 5: we've been here for fifty years and thank everybody and
- 2:21Speaker 5: have the kids having some fun on some bouncy houses,
- 2:24Speaker 5: have some entertainment for the adults and just food trucks,
- 2:27Speaker 5: just all kinds of fun things.
- 2:29Speaker 4: That sounds awesome.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, the Intercye Square is such a great asset to
- 2:33Speaker 2: our community.
- 2:34Speaker 4: It's such a beautiful space there.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Between the Community Center and the Price Tower, and that's great.
- 2:41Speaker 5: It's a beautiful space, a beautiful space that's listening to
- 2:45Speaker 5: our community and a great place for us to be
- 2:47Speaker 5: able to have this event.
- 2:49Speaker 2: All right, Well it's it's April. Finally the weather is
- 2:54Speaker 2: finally giving us some blessing rain. We got through March
- 2:57Speaker 2: at the dealership to say we were number four in
- 3:01Speaker 2: the entire Gold States region, five states, all of Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas,
- 3:07Speaker 2: and Louisiana. We were number four dealer and percentage growth
- 3:11Speaker 2: from the prior year one hundred and eighty four percent
- 3:15Speaker 2: of last year's new Toyota business. We've been going through
- 3:20Speaker 2: that kind of growth. It's people ask where are the cars, Well,
- 3:24Speaker 2: it's because they're selling so fast.
- 3:26Speaker 4: We're kind of.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Lucky, I think in the Toyota business to have a
- 3:30Speaker 2: very high demand, low supply kind of situation. It's not
- 3:37Speaker 2: that they're not trying to build them. They're building just
- 3:40Speaker 2: as many as they can, adding shifts to plants, building
- 3:44Speaker 2: new plants, you know, just continually reinvesting.
- 3:47Speaker 4: But the product is so outstanding. The you know, I think.
- 3:51Speaker 2: People that have driven Toyotas before know the resale.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Value, the quality of the vehicles those it's.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Really top notch. And more and more with our great
- 4:02Speaker 2: hybrid system. So we Toyota hybrids have been around since
- 4:05Speaker 2: the late nineties. And actually Toyota was one of the
- 4:08Speaker 2: first manufacturers to have a battery electric vehicle in the
- 4:11Speaker 2: mid nineties, also a long time ago.
- 4:14Speaker 4: And and but Toyota.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Has all the power trains from internal combustion engine to hybrid,
- 4:21Speaker 2: which a lot of people still ask, what is that,
- 4:24Speaker 2: you know, I have to plug it in. No, hybrid
- 4:26Speaker 2: really is a It's an electric battery that recharges itself.
- 4:31Speaker 2: It captures energy from breaking and and internal systems, so
- 4:36Speaker 2: it actually is self contained. It.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Toyota puts a.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Ten year warranty on the battery system, so they have
- 4:44Speaker 2: a lot of faith that it's going to keep working
- 4:47Speaker 2: and and uh, you know that. And then it has
- 4:50Speaker 2: an internal combustion engine with it, so the two combined, uh,
- 4:54Speaker 2: you know, it started out and the Prius is really
- 4:57Speaker 2: being designed to maximize fuel economy, and it can be
- 5:02Speaker 2: tuned that way. But now we have a full range
- 5:04Speaker 2: of hybrid vehicles that are summer tuned for maximum fuel economy,
- 5:09Speaker 2: some for performance, and you know, tone capacity. One great
- 5:14Speaker 2: thing about electric power is it's very fast to the ground,
- 5:18Speaker 2: so it's it can give you lots of horsepower and torque,
- 5:22Speaker 2: so it's kind of you get a little bit of
- 5:24Speaker 2: the best of everything with that.
- 5:26Speaker 4: That and then we have plug in hybrids where you
- 5:29Speaker 4: do plug the vehicle in.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It's got a battery that it can be charged, it
- 5:33Speaker 2: goes a little full electric. Further, the hybrids can go
- 5:37Speaker 2: full electric for just you know, a few miles really
- 5:40Speaker 2: and that they can do that and then not use
- 5:42Speaker 2: any fuel. But the plug in hybrids will go around
- 5:46Speaker 2: fifty miles without using any gasoline. So if you're driving
- 5:50Speaker 2: around Bartlesville, you can have an electric car. But then
- 5:54Speaker 2: when you're on a trip going to you know, rural
- 5:57Speaker 2: Oklahoma somewhere, or for further afield, you can fill it
- 6:02Speaker 2: up with regular gasoline and keep driving and not have
- 6:05Speaker 2: to worry about spending time filling charging the vehicle. And
- 6:09Speaker 2: then of course we do have battery electric vehicles too.
- 6:13Speaker 2: We've got the redesigned BZ, just getting the full the
- 6:18Speaker 2: new CHR later this year, we'll have the all new Highlander.
- 6:24Speaker 2: We're going to have an electric land.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Cruiser before long.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So the toyotas you know, a lot of manufacturers are
- 6:32Speaker 2: kind of backed away from battery electric vehicles. Toyota continues
- 6:37Speaker 2: to reinvest in the product and you know, building for
- 6:40Speaker 2: the future and really want to give everybody a choice
- 6:43Speaker 2: of power train so that they can get the best
- 6:46Speaker 2: thing that works for them. And our team is trained
- 6:49Speaker 2: to work through that with you and help you get
- 6:53Speaker 2: the best of all those options.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Good.
- 6:56Speaker 6: The question for you and your Toyota is do they
- 6:58Speaker 6: call it with the manufacturing? Is the majority of it
- 7:00Speaker 6: done in the US so that they actually qualify for
- 7:03Speaker 6: the new tax credit?
- 7:04Speaker 4: Yeah, most of them are.
- 7:05Speaker 2: About sixty five percent of the Toyotas that we sell
- 7:08Speaker 2: are made in the USA.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Some are not.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Some are imported from Japan or Mexico or Canada. That's
- 7:15Speaker 2: typically where all our.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Vehicles come from.
- 7:18Speaker 2: But Toyota has continues to invest in the US and
- 7:22Speaker 2: and builds a lot of our best selling vehicles, Highlander, Tundra,
- 7:28Speaker 2: Camery and all those are built in the USA and perfect,
- 7:31Speaker 2: so they would qualify for the big beautiful bill acts.
- 7:34Speaker 6: Where now the are now, Yeah, we've done some study.
- 7:40Speaker 4: It sounds like.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Absolutely I own Prespas Taxi Consultants.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Oh okay, definitely something that's been top of mind.
- 7:48Speaker 2: You're you're on the board at Youth and Family Services, Yes, sir,
- 7:51Speaker 2: I am welcome.
- 7:52Speaker 4: And how did you get involved with Youth and Family Service.
- 7:56Speaker 3: I've actually shared this story with Katie.
- 7:58Speaker 6: When I was younger, the actually was a client of
- 8:03Speaker 6: Youth and Family Services. Youth and Family doesn't just do
- 8:07Speaker 6: your traditional counseling. They also work with the domestic violence
- 8:12Speaker 6: type thing and the abuser side, doing the counseling on
- 8:14Speaker 6: that and the aggression training and kind of learning to
- 8:18Speaker 6: mitigate that. And my mother suffered with a bipolar disorder
- 8:21Speaker 6: and so she was prone to a little bit of
- 8:24Speaker 6: violent rages sometimes and she had an altercation with my
- 8:27Speaker 6: stepdad and got sentenced to some counseling with Youth and
- 8:30Speaker 6: Family Services and it was a great experience, really helped
- 8:34Speaker 6: her out tremendously and I saw that impact, and so
- 8:37Speaker 6: when I graduated.
- 8:38Speaker 3: College and was working for Mshrombank trying to.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Find, you know, a local nonprofit to get involved with
- 8:44Speaker 6: youth and family Naturally came to mind because I saw.
- 8:46Speaker 3: The impact they made directly on my.
- 8:48Speaker 6: Family, and the more I dug into it, the more
- 8:51Speaker 6: I got to know about the center and all the
- 8:53Speaker 6: services they provide, from being in the school counseling to
- 8:57Speaker 6: you know, the drug counseling, to UI counseling, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 6: anger management, suicide prevention, all the different avenues that they're
- 9:04Speaker 6: finding ways to impact people directly in our community.
- 9:07Speaker 3: And I just really wanted to be ruining a crisis. Absolutely, yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 3: you know.
- 9:11Speaker 2: That's the time when people need it the most, and
- 9:14Speaker 2: the counseling services provide that, I guess, a safe place
- 9:20Speaker 2: for these people to go and talk about what's going
- 9:22Speaker 2: on and then get real help from professionals that can
- 9:27Speaker 2: help them through that process of.
- 9:31Speaker 6: Absolutely sometimes it helps just you know, you don't feel
- 9:33Speaker 6: comfortable talking to family members or close friends about some
- 9:36Speaker 6: of these specific issues, and so going to somebody independent
- 9:40Speaker 6: and independent, third party giving you feedback, but also.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Having them having the training to kind of help you
- 9:45Speaker 3: get to the root cause of the issue.
- 9:47Speaker 6: Because so many times it's not what I'm feeling right now,
- 9:50Speaker 6: it's deeper than that, and helping them find a way
- 9:53Speaker 6: to get to that deeper problem so that it can
- 9:56Speaker 6: be addressed and we can actually get it fixed and
- 9:58Speaker 6: have some mending and some healing going on. You know,
- 10:01Speaker 6: it's hugely impactful for people's lives. And that's one thing
- 10:04Speaker 6: that I can speak for for all the counselors and
- 10:06Speaker 6: youth and family is they take pride in that, and
- 10:08Speaker 6: you know, not just let's not just diagnose what's going
- 10:11Speaker 6: on today, Let's figure out what the root problem is
- 10:14Speaker 6: so we can really get lasting help and lasting impact
- 10:17Speaker 6: to help with those problems.
- 10:18Speaker 2: That's great, And you mentioned all the different programs you have.
- 10:23Speaker 2: What tell us more about just how that works and
- 10:27Speaker 2: what kind of programs you do have and how people
- 10:30Speaker 2: get to your services?
- 10:32Speaker 4: Sure?
- 10:32Speaker 3: Sure, so I'll start off.
- 10:35Speaker 5: I think what makes us unique in the community as
- 10:37Speaker 5: far as behavioral health services is that we have a
- 10:39Speaker 5: heavy what we call prevention where we're trying to get
- 10:42Speaker 5: to these kids and families before it gets to the
- 10:46Speaker 5: next level, the counseling level. So we go into the
- 10:49Speaker 5: schools and we work with the kids on life skills,
- 10:51Speaker 5: substance abuse prevention, just an array of things, anger management
- 10:56Speaker 5: with kids for their Yes, we just go into those classes.
- 11:00Speaker 3: The schools usually tell us this is what.
- 11:02Speaker 5: The issues we're having, bullying, you know, maybe kids are vaping,
- 11:06Speaker 5: things like that. They tell us what they need. We
- 11:08Speaker 5: find evidence based curriculum that we teach to these kiddos
- 11:11Speaker 5: and try to prevent them from taking the next step
- 11:14Speaker 5: where it gets either involved with law or they need
- 11:16Speaker 5: therapy or things like that.
- 11:18Speaker 3: So we're really heavy on that.
- 11:19Speaker 5: We want to get in there and get those kids
- 11:22Speaker 5: the skills they need to be successful in their future,
- 11:25Speaker 5: because we all know it's hard. We're in a hard
- 11:27Speaker 5: society right now. Things have been very difficult since COVID
- 11:30Speaker 5: for these kids and being isolated and then going back
- 11:33Speaker 5: to school. So being in there teaching them and giving
- 11:36Speaker 5: them the skills so that we don't get like I said,
- 11:39Speaker 5: to that next level is very important then we do.
- 11:42Speaker 5: You know, obviously, our behavioral health services with our therapists
- 11:46Speaker 5: that like you said, deal with crisis mode, they deal
- 11:49Speaker 5: with them on a regular basis. Maybe they've seen them
- 11:51Speaker 5: for years and years and are still working, but we
- 11:53Speaker 5: just want them to be successful in their daily lives, healthy, happy, thriving,
- 11:58Speaker 5: and that's what our goal is at Youth and Family Services. Thirdly,
- 12:03Speaker 5: and most probably importantly, we run the emergency youth shelter here.
- 12:06Speaker 5: There are several in the state of Oklahoma, but we
- 12:09Speaker 5: run obviously one of them.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Here.
- 12:12Speaker 5: We're taking kids that probably are having the worst day
- 12:15Speaker 5: of their lives. They've been removed from their homes, whether
- 12:18Speaker 5: it be just family issues, abuse, neglect, and we take them,
- 12:24Speaker 5: provide them a safe place to stay, warm, meals, love.
- 12:29Speaker 3: All the things.
- 12:30Speaker 5: We do.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Call it a shelter, but it's a home.
- 12:32Speaker 5: We provide them a safe place and we try to
- 12:35Speaker 5: get them stable until they can get a more permanent placement,
- 12:39Speaker 5: because the goal at a shelter is not to be
- 12:42Speaker 5: there forever. Although we have kids from one night, so
- 12:44Speaker 5: we've had kids stay years at our shelter. So it's
- 12:49Speaker 5: a very important, important part of what we do in
- 12:52Speaker 5: the state of Oklahoma because unfortunately there are kids without
- 12:56Speaker 5: places to go. There's not enough foster homes, there's not
- 12:59Speaker 5: enough group home, there's not enough places, and so we
- 13:03Speaker 5: really pride ourselves on taking those kids and trying to
- 13:05Speaker 5: deal with their issues so that they can go into
- 13:07Speaker 5: a place that's healthy and safe for them. We find
- 13:11Speaker 5: it very unique to our facility that we deal with
- 13:14Speaker 5: a lot of kids with difficult situations, whether it's intellectual disabilities,
- 13:18Speaker 5: physical disabilities, are high medical needs. Not a lot of
- 13:22Speaker 5: the shelters on this in the state want to take
- 13:24Speaker 5: on those situations understandably, so, actually Kay's.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Little too modest.
- 13:28Speaker 6: We're one of the few facilities in the surrounding states
- 13:31Speaker 6: area that will take these severely profound kids with very
- 13:36Speaker 6: very high levels of need and care, you know, disabilities
- 13:40Speaker 6: both mental and physical. You know, we don't turn away
- 13:43Speaker 6: from those kids. We invite them in, We love on them,
- 13:45Speaker 6: We find a way to get them the care they
- 13:47Speaker 6: need and the help they need. You know, we make adjustments, and.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Our staff incredible expertise to do that and resource.
- 13:54Speaker 5: Well what happens is they come in and we're like, Okay,
- 13:57Speaker 5: this is what we have to deal with, and I
- 13:59Speaker 5: go get a nurse or I go get training or
- 14:02Speaker 5: whatever it takes, because we're going to get trained to
- 14:04Speaker 5: do it feeding to We're going to get trained to
- 14:06Speaker 5: deal with diabetic issues. We're going to get trained to
- 14:09Speaker 5: make sure we can take care of these kids the
- 14:10Speaker 5: best that we can.
- 14:12Speaker 3: That's the only way to do it.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Back down from even and it's something you've never seen before.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Kids don't deserve to be back.
- 14:18Speaker 3: They don't deserve that or.
- 14:20Speaker 5: To sit in an office building because honestly, that happens
- 14:23Speaker 5: in the state of Oklahoma when they don't have a
- 14:26Speaker 5: place to go. And so if that happens, we're going
- 14:29Speaker 5: to open our home to them. And that's what leads
- 14:32Speaker 5: us to our fiftieth and fiftieth anniversary. We're really announcing
- 14:36Speaker 5: the fact that we want to build a brand new shelter,
- 14:39Speaker 5: or we're starting to. We've saved some money, but we
- 14:43Speaker 5: need to raise probably about equal as much as we've saved.
- 14:46Speaker 5: We need to raise that kind of money so we
- 14:48Speaker 5: can start. We have the land, the land where the
- 14:50Speaker 5: shelter is right now has plenty that we can build
- 14:52Speaker 5: in the backside of it. But we really want a
- 14:54Speaker 5: specialized place that we can you know, we're meeting their needs, yes,
- 14:58Speaker 5: but can you imagine a place that we can and
- 15:00Speaker 5: really you know, be great for these kids and have
- 15:04Speaker 5: the facilities that that make them, you know, be able
- 15:08Speaker 5: to survive and thrive in this uh you know environment.
- 15:13Speaker 2: It is so you have this dream of building units
- 15:17Speaker 2: facility and in our campaign.
- 15:19Speaker 6: Now the fundraiser in the fiftieth anniversary is actually the
- 15:23Speaker 6: kickoff of our fundraising campaign.
- 15:25Speaker 3: We were still.
- 15:27Speaker 6: Trying to finalize numbers, but you know, we through exactly,
- 15:31Speaker 6: not exactly we know it's going to be in this
- 15:33Speaker 6: in the seven figures, we just don't.
- 15:35Speaker 3: We're trying to figure nail down exactly how much.
- 15:37Speaker 6: Through you know, diligent work on the board and on
- 15:39Speaker 6: Katie's behalf, we've been good stewards of what we've been provided.
- 15:43Speaker 3: We've we've saved and saved and saved.
- 15:46Speaker 6: Leading up to this so that we're not just begging
- 15:48Speaker 6: people for every dollar we're we're putting already. Yeah, we're
- 15:52Speaker 6: putting our money where our mounts.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Having a lead gift in a way. Yeah.
- 15:55Speaker 6: Yeah, we've been very very constrained with our finances so
- 16:00Speaker 6: we can say even being a nonprofit, so we are
- 16:03Speaker 6: really diving into this wholeheartedly and putting our money where
- 16:06Speaker 6: our mouth is. And we're just looking for people that
- 16:08Speaker 6: want to partner with us to help donate towards this
- 16:11Speaker 6: cause and give these kids that really don't have anybody
- 16:14Speaker 6: else an opportunity to have a place to go.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Great corporate and individual sponsors already.
- 16:20Speaker 4: I know you do, and if you, I mean.
- 16:24Speaker 3: If it's appropriate, give them some credit.
- 16:26Speaker 5: I do that. We already have sponsors for the fiftieth anniversary.
- 16:30Speaker 5: I mean there's a long list of others that donate regularly,
- 16:33Speaker 5: but so far Stump Funeral Home, they've always been a
- 16:36Speaker 5: very good supporter of our services. Truity Credit Union also
- 16:42Speaker 5: great supporters. Phillip sixty six, Shrogman, Financial Bag of Oklahoma,
- 16:47Speaker 5: bussy Ie Care, jim Or State Farm, He's always been.
- 16:51Speaker 3: A huge supporter of us as well.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Yes, City Church, Walmart distribution Center, Quick Trip, and then
- 16:58Speaker 5: we've got a few more that if committed. We just
- 17:00Speaker 5: haven't gotten checks in, but we're still, you know, trying
- 17:05Speaker 5: to get those sponsorships to come in for this and
- 17:08Speaker 5: get people on board, whether it be you know, doing
- 17:10Speaker 5: a sponsorship or just coming and doing the run and
- 17:14Speaker 5: being a part of, you know, our celebration.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And I'm sure that'll be a great opportunity to learn
- 17:20Speaker 2: more about what's going on and continue that support going forward.
- 17:24Speaker 2: So I began to fell listen more about the event,
- 17:27Speaker 2: when it's going to be, how people can sign up,
- 17:30Speaker 2: do you need volunteers, stuff like that.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Yes, all of the things. So June twenty seven, the
- 17:36Speaker 5: celebrations from seven to eleven at you need the square.
- 17:39Speaker 5: The run starts at eight the five k timed competitive
- 17:42Speaker 5: people glow run. Yeah, so where your glow gear. We
- 17:46Speaker 5: will have things like low sticks and stuff for our runners.
- 17:50Speaker 5: The fun run starts at eight thirty and you can
- 17:53Speaker 5: sign up on our website. It's www dot Youth Andfamilyinc
- 17:57Speaker 5: Dot com. Otherwise, we do have a Facebook page, Youth
- 18:00Speaker 5: and Family Services of Washington County where you can find
- 18:03Speaker 5: the link, and I think that's we're as far as
- 18:07Speaker 5: signing up goes. Tator Racing is the one sponsoring the race,
- 18:12Speaker 5: so they also have a website that we are listed
- 18:14Speaker 5: on as well.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so people who run around of races are familiar
- 18:18Speaker 2: with them and how that works. Got to have good
- 18:21Speaker 2: timing and event management if you're running a race, so that.
- 18:27Speaker 4: You still do a lot of running site. I've been
- 18:29Speaker 4: involved with that before.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I can't do it anymore, but my feet started hurting
- 18:35Speaker 2: too much to run a lot. So anyway, too much
- 18:37Speaker 2: information there, but I did a couple other things at
- 18:41Speaker 2: the dealership. We're excited to announce that starting April first,
- 18:45Speaker 2: we got rid of our documentation fee altogether done just Toyota.
- 18:50Speaker 2: You know, for years we've said, you know, no dealer
- 18:54Speaker 2: add ons and just had one hundred and forty nine
- 18:56Speaker 2: dollars doc fee, which is about twenty five of the
- 19:00Speaker 2: typical one in today's car business. And we just decided
- 19:05Speaker 2: that in spirit of keeping it simple at our simple.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Price, we'd get rid of that.
- 19:10Speaker 2: We think it gives us a competitive advantage to be
- 19:13Speaker 2: transparent and keep things really simple in the purchase process
- 19:17Speaker 2: our you know, to our to our mind, people deserve
- 19:22Speaker 2: that kind of uh you know treatment when you're buying
- 19:26Speaker 2: a car and not a lot of games or dealer
- 19:28Speaker 2: add ons.
- 19:29Speaker 4: We don't add.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Things to cars that and if we if we do
- 19:34Speaker 2: do an accessory or something, it's clearly posted and part.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Of the vehicle price.
- 19:39Speaker 2: We don't have any requirements to get a price you
- 19:42Speaker 2: know that we post. It's not like, well you have
- 19:45Speaker 2: to trade in your vehicle or finance to do that.
- 19:48Speaker 2: And you know, frankly, a lot of that stuff isn't
- 19:50Speaker 2: allowed under the law. So, uh, you know, I think
- 19:53Speaker 2: we're and it's a shame that we're not. That is
- 19:58Speaker 2: more common in our This I think will be the
- 20:01Speaker 2: There's an one other Toyota dealer in the state, my
- 20:04Speaker 2: friend Scott Northcut and Heeded, they had they don't have
- 20:08Speaker 2: a dock fee there, but every other Toyota dealer has
- 20:12Speaker 2: them and I don't. I'm not disparaging them. There's a
- 20:14Speaker 2: lot of cost of processing the documentation in a car
- 20:18Speaker 2: deal but uh, you know, truthfully, to kind of create
- 20:22Speaker 2: an extra fee and add it to.
- 20:23Speaker 4: The car, it's kind of it just seems silly to me.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And then to be honest, Oklahoma has low doc fees
- 20:29Speaker 2: compared to around the whole country. So but just we
- 20:34Speaker 2: we just really believe in that pressure free buying experience,
- 20:37Speaker 2: keeping transparent Cardials are a non commissioned sales team and
- 20:42Speaker 2: sales management. They're not paid, uh, to squeeze more profit
- 20:46Speaker 2: out of you. They're made there to take care of
- 20:49Speaker 2: you through the process of buying car. Really like you guys,
- 20:52Speaker 2: to be an advisor in the pro in there the
- 20:56Speaker 2: taxes that you prepare for people and helping people through that.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Know, we are approach.
- 21:01Speaker 2: We do need to make a profit and obviously be
- 21:03Speaker 2: there to be there to serve our community and our customers,
- 21:06Speaker 2: but we feel like we can do that and this
- 21:10Speaker 2: way and earn our customers trust through the process. And
- 21:15Speaker 2: you know, for that's worked for a long time for
- 21:18Speaker 2: us and at Dungeons and probably do that.
- 21:21Speaker 6: And it is important from a customer standpoint because it
- 21:24Speaker 6: reduces that pushy salesman mentality that gets stuck to a
- 21:29Speaker 6: lot of car dealers is feeling like I'm being pressured
- 21:32Speaker 6: into doing something I'm not given being given time to
- 21:35Speaker 6: make an informed decision, and feel like I'm working with
- 21:37Speaker 6: a partner.
- 21:38Speaker 3: And so having that no commission base.
- 21:40Speaker 6: Really allows yourself to partner with customers.
- 21:43Speaker 4: And develop relationships.
- 21:44Speaker 2: In the car business, I'm as a family business. I
- 21:48Speaker 2: decided when I was younger, I didn't want to be
- 21:50Speaker 2: in the business. I sold cars for a while and
- 21:53Speaker 2: I met a lot of great people, but I saw
- 21:55Speaker 2: that side of it where it's like, you know, if
- 21:58Speaker 2: I get you to.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Buy this car, I make more money than if you
- 22:01Speaker 4: buy that car.
- 22:01Speaker 2: And I didn't feel comfortable being in that position sort
- 22:05Speaker 2: of helping someone, and I went on and did other things,
- 22:09Speaker 2: and when I got in the business, I decided we
- 22:12Speaker 2: were going to.
- 22:12Speaker 4: Do it differently.
- 22:14Speaker 2: No matter what I was going to do it in
- 22:17Speaker 2: a way that I thought was right. And we've been
- 22:19Speaker 2: we ever since I had the chance to not pay
- 22:23Speaker 2: commission in our sales team back to two thousand. Now
- 22:27Speaker 2: we've not paid commission at Dungeons and that and that,
- 22:31Speaker 2: and in recent years that's gone clear into the management
- 22:34Speaker 2: and you know, it does that we do have to
- 22:36Speaker 2: motivate our teams without using the pay plan quite as much.
- 22:41Speaker 2: And uh, you know, but at the same time, it
- 22:44Speaker 2: helps create this great culture of of support and it
- 22:48Speaker 2: fits well with how we look at the community and
- 22:51Speaker 2: we're you know, we're a small, family owned business in
- 22:54Speaker 2: an industry that's full of conglomerates and big you know,
- 22:58Speaker 2: hyper scaling groups the you know, and you know, vending
- 23:04Speaker 2: machines for cars and stuff. And you know, in a
- 23:06Speaker 2: certain way, people expect that kind of convenience and they
- 23:11Speaker 2: can order their toothpaste and have it delivered to their
- 23:14Speaker 2: house this afternoon. But at the same time too, I know,
- 23:17Speaker 2: with a major purchase like a car, they you know,
- 23:20Speaker 2: they want to know they can count on somebody to
- 23:24Speaker 2: stand behind the car and you know, with done, just
- 23:27Speaker 2: you get that.
- 23:27Speaker 4: My office is on the showroom. If you have an
- 23:29Speaker 4: issue in the dealership.
- 23:32Speaker 2: You call me if if you can not feel like
- 23:35Speaker 2: you're getting the help you need, I will make sure
- 23:38Speaker 2: you do. We try to be proactive about that. If
- 23:41Speaker 2: my team uh sees a problem that you know, they
- 23:45Speaker 2: haven't fixed the car, they tried to bring that to
- 23:47Speaker 2: me before.
- 23:47Speaker 4: The customer has to call and.
- 23:49Speaker 2: And you know, so it just changes the culture as
- 23:52Speaker 2: the business and and that's that's just who we are.
- 23:56Speaker 2: So anyway that we're proud to get rid of that
- 23:58Speaker 2: dock fee. So check us out if we can help.
- 24:01Speaker 2: We've got all new allocation of toyotas yesterday. We'll get
- 24:04Speaker 2: more details on those in the next few days. We
- 24:08Speaker 2: get two allocations a month, continually turning over our inventory.
- 24:13Speaker 2: There's some really hot product we've got right now. The
- 24:16Speaker 2: all new RAB four is just still super hot and
- 24:21Speaker 2: it's coming out kind of slowly. Toyota doesn't want to
- 24:25Speaker 2: rush things like that because they want it to be
- 24:28Speaker 2: a perfect vehicle and not have any issues. So if
- 24:32Speaker 2: they build them a little slower at first and release
- 24:35Speaker 2: them slower, they feel like it allows them if they
- 24:38Speaker 2: do have a problem, to get in front of it.
- 24:39Speaker 4: And I haven't heard.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Of any but that's for sure, and you know, so
- 24:46Speaker 2: we're that if you are.
- 24:48Speaker 4: You know, we get a lot of inquiries. Where are they?
- 24:51Speaker 2: I want to see one, and unfortunately we don't have
- 24:54Speaker 2: them for very long, but talk to the team. They'll
- 24:57Speaker 2: help you get connected with one. I know we have
- 24:59Speaker 2: a rep FO Woodland a brand new MAW vehicle that
- 25:03Speaker 2: is available still that just got allocated to us, and
- 25:07Speaker 2: we keep getting more information. There will be three or
- 25:10Speaker 2: four more I think in the next allocation. I don't
- 25:12Speaker 2: have details on those yet, but the process of our
- 25:17Speaker 2: team can explain how that works. But really what we
- 25:20Speaker 2: need to know is you get an idea of what
- 25:22Speaker 2: you're looking for a little bit in advance, and then
- 25:25Speaker 2: we can help you get that vehicle. Obviously, if it's
- 25:29Speaker 2: not right when it gets here, we can work through
- 25:31Speaker 2: that too, but we would do everything we can to
- 25:34Speaker 2: make it work for you. And we have designed our
- 25:38Speaker 2: whole process to be the way people want to shop
- 25:41Speaker 2: and get those great toyotas or used cars.
- 25:45Speaker 6: Of course, and for those people that are on the
- 25:47Speaker 6: fence of do I buy new, do I buy used?
- 25:49Speaker 3: Just remember that they do you know, big beautiful deal bid,
- 25:53Speaker 3: big beautiful bill did.
- 25:54Speaker 6: Put in that tax incentive to go with new, so
- 25:57Speaker 6: you know the interest if you have to. If you're
- 25:59Speaker 6: financing and there's a difference between the new and the use,
- 26:02Speaker 6: the interest on that.
- 26:02Speaker 3: New car is going to be tax deductible.
- 26:04Speaker 6: There's a used car, so there's some incentive there to
- 26:07Speaker 6: you know, go ahead and take that step and get
- 26:09Speaker 6: the new.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Car, and you'll want to talk to your tax absolutely. Yea,
- 26:13Speaker 2: we know we have some information, but we do recommend
- 26:16Speaker 2: all things from evolving taxes.
- 26:18Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a great website where you can actually use
- 26:21Speaker 6: the VEN number to look up the vehicle and you
- 26:23Speaker 6: straightforward whether or not you qualify.
- 26:25Speaker 3: It qualifies for that tax credit.
- 26:27Speaker 4: So definitely something.
- 26:28Speaker 3: To look into and keep in mind on our teams.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Are you actually on our website you can look and
- 26:32Speaker 2: see the exact interest charge and how much the interest
- 26:36Speaker 2: you're paying is right there on the purchase tool on
- 26:39Speaker 2: our website, play with your own deal, compare the leases
- 26:42Speaker 2: to purchases. It's a lot in keeping with the transparent
- 26:46Speaker 2: purchase all that it's the same thing on our website
- 26:49Speaker 2: as the team uses to work your deal in the store.
- 26:52Speaker 2: The sales people and the sales managers all use the
- 26:56Speaker 2: same thing.
- 26:56Speaker 4: That's on the website, so it keeps it.
- 26:58Speaker 2: All transparent and to calculate and very straightforward. And you
- 27:02Speaker 2: play with your damn payment I to submit your own
- 27:05Speaker 2: credit value, your trade. All that's in one nice convenient
- 27:08Speaker 2: package for you on the website. What else we got, tom,
- 27:13Speaker 2: We got anything else happening today at the station?
- 27:17Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, we got tons, we got Cardinal Baseball, we
- 27:20Speaker 1: got Tamsine Baseball starting up pretty soon.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 27:23Speaker 2: We're excited to have another season of Indians baseball.
- 27:26Speaker 4: We got what year is this for you? Down?
- 27:29Speaker 2: Record ever since nineteen forty one, so you know it's
- 27:34Speaker 2: it's a long time.
- 27:35Speaker 4: I don't know, eighty seven years. Yeah, good luck anybody else?
- 27:40Speaker 2: Seven Guinness record longest corporate sponsor of a sports team
- 27:45Speaker 2: in the world.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Oh, isn't that amazing? Right here in Marblesville.
- 27:50Speaker 2: We're very proud of that and happy to help have
- 27:53Speaker 2: you guys on the show today. I hope people will
- 27:56Speaker 2: come out and sponsor and support the fiftieth anniversary celebration
- 28:01Speaker 2: and the race on June twenty seventh.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Is that right?
- 28:05Speaker 3: Yeh? Just one more comment.
- 28:07Speaker 6: We are still looking for our big presenting sponsor, so
- 28:11Speaker 6: we do have one slot open for the exclusive recognition
- 28:14Speaker 6: rights and being the presented sponsor of the event. If
- 28:17Speaker 6: you're interested in that, please feel free to reach out
- 28:18Speaker 6: to us. We have other sponsorship levels trying to accommodate
- 28:22Speaker 6: every budget, but we are still looking for our big
- 28:24Speaker 6: presenting sponsors.
- 28:25Speaker 3: So if you're interested in really.
- 28:27Speaker 6: Making an impact and the lives of the youth of
