Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Thank you, Trey.
- 0:01Speaker 2: All right, Trey Yanks over in Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, we're
- 0:03Speaker 2: just hours away from President Trump expecting to meet with
- 0:06Speaker 2: the president of Ukraine, Zelensky, on the sidelines of the U.N.
- 0:09Speaker 3: General Assembly.
- 0:10Speaker 4: Jeff Paul joins us live from our London bureau with
- 0:13Speaker 4: the details. Good morning, Jeff.
- 0:15Speaker 5: Yeah, good morning. And despite this critical meeting between President
- 0:17Speaker 5: Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia and Ukraine continue
- 0:22Speaker 5: to exchange deadly strikes, with both claiming to have hit
- 0:24Speaker 5: crucial oil refineries. Overnight, Ukraine hitting deep in Russian territory,
- 0:29Speaker 5: damaging yet another oil refinery in their latest long-range attack.
- 0:34Speaker 5: Ukrainian drones hitting several targets at a refinery southeast of Moscow,
- 0:38Speaker 5: sparking massive fires. Meanwhile, Russian forces hit targets in Ukraine's
- 0:43Speaker 5: industrial heartland, as well as in residential housing, as you
- 0:47Speaker 5: see here in Kiev. The latest Russian barrage of missiles,
- 0:50Speaker 5: drones and artillery fire cut off power to thousands of people,
- 0:54Speaker 5: killing at least four in Dnipro. The attacks happening as
- 0:58Speaker 5: Ukraine's President Zelenskyy began his visit to New York. So far,
- 1:01Speaker 5: he's met with U.S. senators, where he briefed them on
- 1:04Speaker 5: de-escalation measures that he'll likely propose to President Trump later today.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Vice President J.D. Vance was asked about when the wars
- 1:12Speaker 5: in Ukraine and Iran will end and had this to say.
- 1:16Speaker 6: I'm always optimistic that we're going to make progress. I
- 1:18Speaker 6: think as the president has said, the Russia-Ukraine war has
- 1:21Speaker 6: been by far the toughest of the international conflicts to solve.
- 1:25Speaker 6: I'm sure there's going to be some good progress made.
- 1:27Speaker 6: But look, this thing has been tough to solve, no
- 1:31Speaker 6: doubt about it. But I'd rather work for a president
- 1:33Speaker 6: who has energetically tried to solve the problem or to
- 1:36Speaker 6: keep on trying to solve it. Do I think it'll
- 1:38Speaker 6: get solved eventually? Yes, it's just a question of time.
- 1:41Speaker 5: President Trump expressed his concerns over the war in Ukraine,
- 1:45Speaker 5: writing on social media that Russia has unfortunately lost control
- 1:48Speaker 5: of its diesel oil industry, adding this ridiculous and never-ending
- 1:52Speaker 5: war with Ukraine must be ended. Zelensky responded to Trump's
- 1:56Speaker 5: post saying, indeed, this Russian war against Ukraine and against
- 2:00Speaker 5: common sense must be ended. Trump and Zelensky, meanwhile, are
- 2:03Speaker 5: set to meet today in New York at 115 Eastern Time.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Lawrence Ainsley, Brian.
- 2:09Speaker 4: All right.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Thanks so much, Jeff. And I guess front and center
- 2:12Speaker 2: is going to be, the president said, look, diesel is
- 2:14Speaker 2: like $ 6. 23 a gallon. And it's because the Ukrainians are
- 2:20Speaker 2: blowing up the Russian refineries. And they've been unbelievably successful
- 2:24Speaker 2: in doing it. And if you could stop that, we'd
- 2:27Speaker 2: get the price down. But if they stop that, the
- 2:29Speaker 2: war machine continues to be, the Russian continues to fuel
- 2:32Speaker 2: the war machine, which is actually aiming for innocent people
- 2:37Speaker 2: and kidnapping kids.
- 2:38Speaker 4: It's a balance in that. We're fighting our war. Right now,
- 2:41Speaker 4: when it comes to Iran, the price is going up
- 2:43Speaker 4: because of that. The Ukrainians are fighting their war as well,
- 2:46Speaker 4: and the price of diesel is going up. We have
- 2:48Speaker 4: the opportunity to ask the Secretary of State about that.
- 2:50Speaker 4: This is what he had to say.
- 2:54Speaker 3: The one thing we are concerned about, however, is that
- 2:57Speaker 3: over the last few months, on a number of occasions,
- 2:59Speaker 3: American-linked ships, American oil supplies have been targeted, probably not deliberately,
- 3:04Speaker 3: but targeted nonetheless by Ukraine. And so that's something that
- 3:07Speaker 3: needs to be addressed. We can't have that happen. But obviously,
- 3:10Speaker 3: you know, look, that's why the president has always wanted
- 3:12Speaker 3: to end this war and is prepared to do anything
- 3:14Speaker 3: he can to bring it to an end. It's been difficult,
- 3:17Speaker 3: but we remain hopeful that something can happen there. Yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 3: we would propose that. We think that would be a
- 3:21Speaker 3: great idea, an energy infrastructure ceasefire in which Ukraine's infrastructure
- 3:26Speaker 3: is not being targeted. Russian energy supplies are not being
- 3:31Speaker 3: targeted as well. It's an ideal outcome. It's one that
- 3:34Speaker 3: we're in favor of, and we would propose and see
- 3:36Speaker 3: if we can achieve. We've talked to a number of
- 3:38Speaker 3: countries about that as well. But just like the war,
- 3:40Speaker 3: it takes two sides to agree to that. And so
- 3:43Speaker 3: that's been the challenge.
- 3:44Speaker 1: President Zelensky, I saw a video of him arriving here
- 3:47Speaker 1: in America, and right now he's visiting the 9-11 Museum downtown.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And he put this on X or on social media.
- 3:54Speaker 1: He said, the peace track is our number one priority.
- 3:57Speaker 1: We are working together with the American team, and we
- 3:59Speaker 1: are ready to take... really serious steps. Our president, when
- 4:03Speaker 1: he meets with him at 115, it's being reported that
- 4:05Speaker 1: he wants an energy ceasefire. He wants an agreement from
- 4:09Speaker 1: not only Putin, but also Zelensky, that they'll stop these
- 4:11Speaker 1: military strikes that are targeting the power and the fuel
- 4:14Speaker 1: and the energy infrastructure, because that will lower costs for us,
- 4:17Speaker 1: for our diesel and for our gas.
- 4:19Speaker 4: The problem with Russia, much like Iran, when you're dealing
- 4:22Speaker 4: with clerics in Iran, it You have Putin's stated goal
- 4:26Speaker 4: is to get the old Soviet Union back together. And
- 4:30Speaker 4: so there's no desire for peace from Putin. There's no
- 4:34Speaker 4: desire for peace from the Iranians as well. And so
- 4:38Speaker 4: although we encourage the president to try to get both
- 4:41Speaker 4: sides to the table, you're battling two radical ideologies together.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:47Speaker 2: The Ukrainians in particular would end the war, but they're
- 4:50Speaker 2: not going to give the Donbass region— and I'll tell you
- 4:52Speaker 2: the truth, Crimea right now is uninhabitable. They thought that
- 4:55Speaker 2: going to take Crimea was never— should be given away by
- 4:58Speaker 2: Khrushchev in the 60s anyway. Well, the Ukrainians have been
- 5:01Speaker 2: so effective, now the Russians can't—they have their military base there.
- 5:05Speaker 2: It was supposed to be the vacation spot. Not anymore.
- 5:08Speaker 2: So— and there's—evidently, they lost 900 meters' worth of land last year,
- 5:13Speaker 2: and they gained 800 meters. So they've lost a net,
- 5:16Speaker 2: 100 million. That's what you're fighting for?
- 5:18Speaker 4: That's why you're giving up 30,000 troops?
- 5:20Speaker 2: He doesn't care. But the president's now importing, Vladimir Putin's
- 5:24Speaker 2: importing North Koreans, up to 50,000, and the North Korean
- 5:29Speaker 2: missiles to help rocket them. That's why we can't abandon Ukraine.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And you saw that when the Latvia... foreign minister was here.
- 5:36Speaker 2: We know what it's like living under communism. We know
- 5:38Speaker 2: what the Russians are trying to reconstitute the Soviet Union.
- 5:41Speaker 2: We got them on our border and Belarus, a vassal state,
- 5:44Speaker 2: on the other side of the border. But that's why
- 5:46Speaker 2: we're paying 5%.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Of our GDP.
- 5:48Speaker 1: But she says we do have NATO protecting us. She
- 5:51Speaker 1: also said, you asked her, what is it like living
- 5:53Speaker 1: under a communist regime or socialism? And she said, we
- 5:55Speaker 1: weren't free. We didn't have a choice. And the state
- 5:58Speaker 1: tells you how to think and what to do.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 2: That's pushing back in our elections.
- 6:04Speaker 1: She was telling us that Putin, he is the leader,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and if anyone tries to go against him, he stops it.
- 6:09Speaker 1: There was a political agenda from another group, and he
- 6:12Speaker 1: stopped it.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah, there was a Stop the War group that rose
- 6:15Speaker 2: up to be part of the election.
- 6:17Speaker 1: He disbanded it.
- 6:18Speaker 2: And she even brought up the fact that in the
- 6:20Speaker 2: Soviet Union, the Politburo and the president, they all kind
- 6:24Speaker 2: of worked against each other, like almost a check and
- 6:27Speaker 2: balance on each other, even in their own communist way.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Now it's only Vladimir Putin.
