Speaker 1: What's good, people? It's your boy, NIC, a.k.a. Goody, depending
• 0:15
Speaker 1: on how long you've known me. And if you're just
• 0:17
Speaker 1: getting to know me now, you probably won't like me
• 0:20
Speaker 1: at first. But the real ones that stick with me
• 0:22
Speaker 1: might just learn to love me. I got my super producer,
• 0:24
Speaker 1: the sports almanac, Jason Baum with me. No more time
• 0:31
Speaker 1: to waste. Let's get to it. The New York Knicks.
• 0:34
Speaker 1: We're back, baby. We're back. The Knicks start off 0-3,
• 0:39
Speaker 1: and everybody is very nervous. I can admit that, you know,
• 0:43
Speaker 1: I'm not one of these people who usually gets too crazy. Obviously,
• 0:48
Speaker 1: last year we pulled off the impossible, and, you know,
• 0:51
Speaker 1: some sort of playoff hangover, as some might call it.
• 0:56
Speaker 1: I'm sorry, championship hangover, as some might call it, was
• 0:58
Speaker 1: almost to be expected. But with that being said, I
• 1:03
Speaker 1: was a little nervous through three games. I was nervous
• 1:08
Speaker 1: when the Pistons put up 38 points in the first
• 1:10
Speaker 1: quarter yesterday. And I was nervous today when the Knicks
• 1:13
Speaker 1: went down 19. But if you can see me right now,
• 1:17
Speaker 1: if you're listening on audio. I have on a white
• 1:20
Speaker 1: New York Knicks hat with a slightly lighter blue brim
• 1:23
Speaker 1: to it than the actual Knicks blue. It's got the
• 1:25
Speaker 1: old Knicks logo where it's just the basketball and the Knicks,
• 1:29
Speaker 1: you know, curved over the top. And it has on
• 1:32
Speaker 1: the side the 1994 finals, okay? I'm sorry, no, 1973
• 1:37
Speaker 1: finals is the one that it has on the side.
• 1:39
  Speaker 2: And so....
• 1:44
Speaker 1: This hat last year when the Knicks were famously down
• 1:48
Speaker 1: by 29, I went ahead and I threw it on.
• 1:51
Speaker 1: I ordered it at the beginning of the finals. I
• 1:53
Speaker 1: rush ordered it because I wanted to have it for
• 1:55
Speaker 1: the actual finals. And I threw it on during that comeback.
• 1:59
Speaker 1: So today when things were going bad, I was sitting there.
• 2:02
Speaker 1: I still had on the polo. I took the polo off.
• 2:04
Speaker 1: I had on just the beater. I took my chain
• 2:07
Speaker 1: out and I put on the Knicks hat. And I
• 2:10
Speaker 1: was just like, you know, I just need to connect
• 2:12
Speaker 1: with the team at that moment. And my son, when
• 2:16
Speaker 1: the Knicks started coming back, he looked at me and said, Dad,
• 2:18
Speaker 1: the hat. He knows. He remembers. He remembers Game 4
• 2:20
Speaker 1: from last year. My pops, who is not superstitious in
• 2:25
Speaker 1: this way and typically will say stuff like this is bullshit, right?
• 2:29
Speaker 1: Even he, even he last year during Game 4 was like, yo,
• 2:35
Speaker 1: keep that fucking hat on. Whatever's going on with that hat,
• 2:39
Speaker 1: keep that hat on. The big guy, as you all
• 2:42
Speaker 1: know him, I'm going to call him right now.
• 2:46
  Speaker 2: Hello?
• 2:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, what's up? All right. Just so you know, you're
• 2:50
Speaker 1: on the podcast. I have to ask you a question
• 2:53
Speaker 1: real quick. Do you remember last year during game four?
• 2:56
Speaker 1: The people have been asking for you, by the way.
• 2:57
Speaker 1: They're in the comments. They want to know where the
• 2:59
Speaker 1: big guy is. I had to assure everybody that he's okay.
• 3:01
Speaker 1: Everything is good. But, you know, last year during the
• 3:07
Speaker 1: game four, remember when we were coming back? Remember when
• 3:10
Speaker 1: I went and put on the white hat? Yeah. When
• 3:14
Speaker 1: we were coming back and you went and put on
• 3:17
Speaker 1: the white hat. I knew you were going to play
• 3:19
Speaker 1: me like this. I knew you were. I went and
• 3:20
Speaker 1: put on my new Knicks. I remember. I do remember.
• 3:24
Speaker 2: I have some vague memory. Yes, because, right, we watched the.
• 3:27
Speaker 1: Game at your house. Yes.
• 3:28
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 3:29
Speaker 1: I went and put on the hat. Obviously, you know,
• 3:31
Speaker 1: things went the way that they did. Yo, today when
• 3:35
Speaker 1: we were down 19, I went and put on the hat.
• 3:37
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: Yo, I'm just being honest with you when I tell you,
• 3:46
Speaker 1: and Nazzy was my witness. He was with me. And, like,
• 3:49
Speaker 1: after we scored, like, you know, we got it down to, like, eight.
• 3:52
Speaker 1: He looked at me. He said, Dad, the hat.
• 3:58
Speaker 2: Oh, you don't believe that I put the hat on?
• 4:02
  Speaker 2: That's true.
• 4:02
Speaker 1: That's true. And, you know, yeah, okay, but let's take
• 4:14
Speaker 1: it easy. Your hat's not the magic, but, you know,
• 4:17
Speaker 1: that was a good comeback.
• 4:18
  Speaker 2: 19 points?
• 4:19
Speaker 1: Were they down as much as 19 today? Yeah, they
• 4:22
Speaker 1: were down by 19. No, it was 19 in the third.
• 4:25
Speaker 1: Things were bad, but they figured out a way to
• 4:27
Speaker 1: get it done. Yo, your boy Jack, as you call him, a.k.a.
• 4:31
Speaker 1: Jordan Clarkson. Yo, if you watch Top Boy on Netflix...
• 4:36
Speaker 1: Tell me Jack don't look like, I'm talking to the
• 4:38
Speaker 1: people right now, just so they know what we're talking
• 4:40
Speaker 1: about when you say Jack. Tell me he doesn't look
• 4:41
Speaker 1: like Jordan Clarkson. Exactly. Or she. She doesn't look like
• 4:45
  Speaker 1: Jordan Clarkson.
• 4:46
  Speaker 2: My bad.
• 4:46
Speaker 1: She looks like Jordan Clarkson. My bad, my bad. Yeah,
• 4:48
Speaker 1: my bad, my bad. And that's the thing. She's playing
• 4:50
Speaker 1: that role. I happen to follow her on Instagram. She's,
• 4:54
Speaker 1: you know, on Instagram, she's a very feminine lady. But,
• 4:56
Speaker 1: you know, she plays Jack in that role, and she
• 4:58
  Speaker 1: plays it well.
• 4:58
  Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
• 4:59
Speaker 1: She really does. That's interesting. I've never seen her outside
• 5:02
Speaker 1: of playing that role, so that'll be interesting. Yeah, man,
• 5:05
Speaker 1: but big win. I'm going to let you get up
• 5:07
Speaker 1: out of here. I know you weren't prepared for this.
• 5:08
Speaker 1: I don't want you to say something that.
• 5:10
Speaker 2: You might regret. We're live.
• 5:11
Speaker 1: But, yeah. All right, big guy. Love you.
• 5:14
Speaker 2: Love you, too. All right, bye.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: The big guy, as you guys, you know, most of
• 5:20
Speaker 1: you know, that's my dad. He's a... We started the first...
• 5:23
Speaker 1: The beginning of the podcast journey was He Did This
• 5:26
Speaker 1: To Me, which was a podcast mostly about the Knicks, Mets,
• 5:29
Speaker 1: and Jets, and it was he and I. And, I
• 5:32
Speaker 1: don't know, someday... When setup wise, I can make it
• 5:35
Speaker 1: easier for him. And then also if I can, you know,
• 5:40
Speaker 1: put a little bit of, you know, financial incentive into it, possibly,
• 5:44
Speaker 1: you know, that's still my dream to get him back.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: But yeah, man, big win for the Knicks. Big, big
• 5:48
Speaker 1: win for the Knicks. Because, you know, being down 19,
• 5:51
Speaker 1: you just lost three. You get one. You get one
• 5:53
Speaker 1: against a tough Detroit Detroit team. that fouls every single play,
• 5:58
Speaker 1: but they still have no shooters. And you figure out
• 6:01
Speaker 1: a way to not just win, but win handedly against them.
• 6:03
Speaker 1: Win by 14. You come back and basically from the
• 6:06
Speaker 1: second through the end of the fourth quarter, you just
• 6:11
Speaker 1: absolutely outplay them, outshoot them, and really, really kind of
• 6:15
Speaker 1: send a message to everybody that everybody take it easy.
• 6:18
Speaker 1: Knick fans and haters alike, everybody take it easy. And
• 6:23
Speaker 1: especially you Knick fans who kind of are haters. My
• 6:26
Speaker 1: Knicks Twitter fan, we know. There's certain people who it's
• 6:28
Speaker 1: like they just can't wait to find something to be
• 6:32
Speaker 1: pissed off about. We just want to chip.
• 6:35
  Speaker 2: Relax.
• 6:38
Speaker 1: But down 19, man, you got to make it. And
• 6:41
Speaker 1: you saw it at the Knicks. I think they took
• 6:43
Speaker 1: a timeout around that time. You were disappointed with how
• 6:45
Speaker 1: they came out of the third quarter because starting at third,
• 6:51
Speaker 1: after the way they ended the first half, which was just,
• 6:54
Speaker 1: embarrassing despicable basketball i for some reason just leaving a
• 6:59
Speaker 1: guy wide open to shoot a three we're at the
• 7:01
Speaker 1: end of the half when there's like 1.5 on the
• 7:03
Speaker 1: clock full court passes to him step into a shot
• 7:07
Speaker 1: bang like i just ridiculous absolutely ridiculous i think it
• 7:10
Speaker 1: was jones who did it um and um All the
• 7:14
Speaker 1: Knicks were all looking around, pointing at each other like
• 7:16
Speaker 1: the Spider-Man meme, like who was supposed to be guard.
• 7:18
Speaker 1: That shit was horrid. I was so pissed off. And
• 7:21
Speaker 1: there's a lot to get to and break down the game,
• 7:23
Speaker 1: but just overall it was super important that the Knicks
• 7:25
Speaker 1: figured out a way to get that dub. Appreciate everybody
• 7:29
Speaker 1: tuning in right now. If you're on X, if you're
• 7:32
Speaker 1: on YouTube, wherever you are, hit the like. Definitely follow me,
• 7:36
Speaker 1: especially if you enjoy Knicks content. But then also go
• 7:39
Speaker 1: over to YouTube, hit that like, hit that subscribe button, Um,
• 7:41
Speaker 1: that's the one that really helps me the most. I
• 7:44
Speaker 1: go live about three times a week. So if you,
• 7:48
Speaker 1: if you want to catch me, go ahead and, you know,
• 7:50
Speaker 1: turn on those notifications too and rock with your boy. Um,
• 7:53
Speaker 1: but yeah, man, Nick's get the dub two and three.
• 7:56
Speaker 1: We play Philadelphia on Friday, NBA Emirates cup game. One
• 8:00
Speaker 1: of that, um, Nick's obviously looking to get a little
• 8:03
Speaker 1: get back against Philly. Um, we'll be down in Philly.
• 8:06
Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see what that crowd sounds like,
• 8:09
Speaker 1: because as we know, That is, you know, Madison Square
• 8:13
Speaker 1: Garden South. And we have taken it over these last
• 8:17
Speaker 1: few years. But now they got Braun. And so that's
• 8:20
Speaker 1: going to change things. They got Braun. They got Jalen Brown.
• 8:22
Speaker 1: They had a good start. Things are going to change.
• 8:23
Speaker 1: So we'll see. I hope that the Philly faithful, because
• 8:27
Speaker 1: as much as I'm a dude from Jersey, and so,
• 8:29
Speaker 1: you know, we all fuck Philly. When I get away
• 8:32
Speaker 1: from Philly in the East Coast, you know, I live
• 8:36
Speaker 1: in Arizona now. If somebody tells me, like, they're like, yo,
• 8:38
Speaker 1: I'm from Philly. I'm like, yo, you're from home. And
• 8:41
Speaker 1: so I was kind of disappointed to see this supposedly,
• 8:44
Speaker 1: you know, cantankerous, just a very, very notorious fan base
• 8:51
Speaker 1: just get absolutely destroyed by Knicks fans willing to go
• 8:55
Speaker 1: down there. They got more money in their pocket. And,
• 8:59
Speaker 1: you know, they're ready. They're more hyped about their Knicks.
• 9:02
Speaker 1: So we're going to see a Philly fan show back
• 9:04
Speaker 1: up for sure. But, yeah, some details on this win. Great, great,
• 9:10
Speaker 1: great win. I need my phone for the notes. Hold on.
• 9:14
Speaker 1: I threw my phone after the call. Like I was like,
• 9:16
Speaker 1: you know, some fucking fly guy. She's like, okay, we're
• 9:20
Speaker 1: out of here. But it's like, you know, Jill, son,
• 9:23
Speaker 1: you need your phone. All right. So this is the thing.
• 9:29
Speaker 1: This was the great thing about this game. I started
• 9:32
Speaker 1: doing these things, these Knicks postgame thoughts that I throw
• 9:35
Speaker 1: up on X. And they get a lot of love.
• 9:36
Speaker 1: So I'm going to do one every game. Um, it's tough.
• 9:38
Speaker 1: Like last night I was, uh, I was, you know,
• 9:41
Speaker 1: coaching football, so I had to watch it on rewind.
• 9:42
Speaker 1: So I got it up late, but, um, first one,
• 9:44
Speaker 1: I kick Caleb Wilson is a special, um, I know bomb.
• 9:47
Speaker 1: We're going to probably get into this here in a
• 9:48
Speaker 1: little bit, but rookies all over the league this year
• 9:50
Speaker 1: look like they're, you know, it was supposed to be
• 9:54
Speaker 1: that great of a rookie class. And guess what? We're
• 9:56
  Speaker 1: seeing it.
• 9:56
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 9:57
Speaker 1: At the very beginning of the game, I saw Cat
• 10:00
Speaker 1: really feeding Bridges and trying to get him involved. And
• 10:03
Speaker 1: I saw that some last game, too. And, you know, Bridges,
• 10:06
Speaker 1: we thought that he was going to get involved this game.
• 10:09
Speaker 1: Early in the game, he looked good. Obviously, last game,
• 10:10
Speaker 1: he had 12 points. He hit his first four threes
• 10:13
Speaker 1: of the season. And Bridges kind of just faded. And,
• 10:18
Speaker 1: you know, he had one play in particular, I believe
• 10:20
Speaker 1: it was in the second quarter, that really bothered me where,
• 10:23
Speaker 1: you know, somebody's coming downhill and going for a layup,
• 10:28
Speaker 1: and they're out in front in some sort of fast
• 10:29
Speaker 1: break situation, and we get them to miss a shot.
• 10:32
Speaker 1: But then I see where the ball's coming, and I
• 10:34
Speaker 1: see that Bridges is over there, and I just automatically
• 10:37
Speaker 1: assume whoever's behind him is just going to shove him
• 10:39
Speaker 1: underneath the rim and snatch his board and lay it up. And, unfortunately,
• 10:44
Speaker 1: I was exactly right. So... I still need Bridges to
• 10:48
Speaker 1: just turn up the level of it. And I'm telling you,
• 10:50
Speaker 1: we've seen intensity and passion from Bridges. We saw Bridges
• 10:55
Speaker 1: in the playoffs, in my opinion. One of my favorite
• 11:00
Speaker 1: moments is his, I'm pretty sure it was after game
• 11:05
Speaker 1: two of the finals, you know, another Knicks comeback, and
• 11:08
Speaker 1: he's fired up at the end. It's in San Antonio.
• 11:11
Speaker 1: And the passion that he had in his face, man,
• 11:14
Speaker 1: and the passion that he played with, basically from game
• 11:16
Speaker 1: three in the Atlanta series through the culmination of the
• 11:21
Speaker 1: Knicks NBA championship was just, it was, I mean, I
• 11:26
Speaker 1: was feeding off of it. The whole team was feeding
• 11:27
Speaker 1: off of it. It's what we need from Bridges, and
• 11:29
Speaker 1: we haven't gotten it quite yet. But, hey, I'm not,
• 11:31
Speaker 1: you know, I'm not too worried about Bridges. What I
• 11:34
Speaker 1: know about Bridges is he's going to step up when
• 11:35
Speaker 1: it matters the most and get it done. And then
• 11:38
Speaker 1: a cat, man. The rollercoaster of Karl-Anthony Towns, man. Kat, listen,
• 11:45
Speaker 1: Kat played a fantastic game overall. But this game, we
• 11:53
Speaker 1: win going away, and we're not struggling down by 19
• 11:57
Speaker 1: in the third. And, you know, in the fourth quarter,
• 12:01
Speaker 1: we need Kat to start being heroic until he passes
• 12:06
Speaker 1: the baton to the great Captain Clutch. But we'll talk
• 12:09
Speaker 1: about him and make sure he gets his time But
• 12:11
Speaker 1: Cat gets in foul trouble once again. I mean, he
• 12:14
Speaker 1: just can't stop. He can't stop with his stupid fouls.
• 12:17
Speaker 1: And they're stupid fucking fouls. They're stupid fouls, Cat. You've
• 12:24
Speaker 1: got to figure out a way to figure that out,
• 12:27
Speaker 1: my guy. Please, I'm begging you. Cat, I'm begging you.
• 12:30
Speaker 1: You're playing fantastic. You're the best, Nick, by far this season.
• 12:34
Speaker 1: It's not even close. You have been fantastic. You had
• 12:38
Speaker 1: 27-20 last game, and tonight you had, I got it
• 12:42
Speaker 1: pulled up right here. What you have, Kat? 19-13, five assists.
• 12:49
Speaker 1: You played great. Five fouls. And you basically had to
• 12:54
Speaker 1: sit the entire third quarter. And then when you come
• 12:56
Speaker 1: back at the beginning of the fourth, you dominate. Get
• 13:00
Speaker 1: us right back into the game. Push us into the lead.
• 13:03
Speaker 1: Then we bring in Brunson, sprinkling a little bit of Clarkson.
• 13:08
Speaker 1: And the Knicks get a dub. Knicks get a really,
• 13:10
Speaker 1: really good dub. I'm going to save Brunson for last.
• 13:13
Speaker 1: Jordan Clarkson, I was so– I looked at my son
• 13:17
Speaker 1: during the second quarter and was like, yo, Jordan Clarkson
• 13:19
Speaker 1: needs to wake the fuck up. Like, what is he doing?
• 13:23
Speaker 1: Because he just– he gets into the game and you
• 13:25
Speaker 1: can tell he's not– last game he didn't play at all.
• 13:28
Speaker 1: So maybe he's coming in feeling like he might not play,
• 13:31
Speaker 1: but that's no excuse. That's the exact opposite of what
• 13:33
Speaker 1: I need from a guy like Jordan Clarkson. I need
• 13:35
Speaker 1: him ready when he comes into the game. And Jordan Clarkson,
• 13:39
Speaker 1: for sure, 100% in that second quarter. I don't know
• 13:43
Speaker 1: if he took some smelling salts or something during the
• 13:45
Speaker 1: halftime or what, but he came out in that third
• 13:48
Speaker 1: and then especially in that fourth quarter. I don't even
• 13:50
Speaker 1: know if he played in the third, but in the
• 13:51
Speaker 1: fourth quarter, whoo! And Jordan Clarkson got so many minutes. Why?
• 13:55
Speaker 1: Because Mikael Bridges basically does not play in the second half.
• 13:59
Speaker 1: I mean, he played in the third. Did he play
• 14:00
Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter? Baum, can you look at Mikael
• 14:04
Speaker 1: Bridges'– Minutes. And by quarter. Because I'm pretty sure. I
• 14:10
Speaker 1: know if you go to NBA.com. It lets you sort
• 14:12
Speaker 1: like that. Because I'm pretty sure. He didn't play in
• 14:16
Speaker 1: the fourth. And then OG. OG as well. McHale just
• 14:19
Speaker 1: played a total. A grand total of 13 minutes. In
• 14:23
Speaker 1: the entire game. And I want to tell you. Almost
• 14:27
Speaker 1: all of that was in the first half. He came
• 14:29
Speaker 1: out on that bullshit. In the third quarter. And Mike
• 14:32
Speaker 1: Brown was like. That's enough. That is enough. And you
• 14:37
Speaker 1: know what? I don't blame him in the slightest, man.
• 14:40
Speaker 1: He's got to be better. He's got to be better. And,
• 14:44
Speaker 1: you know, this whole team needs it, and he will be.
• 14:47
Speaker 1: He will be. Bridges will get it figured out. Yo,
• 14:49
Speaker 1: Tyler Kolick, he got a lot of minutes today too.
• 14:53
Speaker 1: OG didn't play a ton of minutes today. OG played
• 14:55
Speaker 1: 30 minutes, but he wasn't in at the end of
• 14:57
Speaker 1: the game. At the end of the game, it was Shamit, Clarkson,
• 15:01
Speaker 1: Josh Hart, Brunson, and Cat. And they got it closed
• 15:06
Speaker 1: down for us. Josh Hart continues to be the second
• 15:08
Speaker 1: best Knick thus far in the season, if we take
• 15:11
Speaker 1: the whole totality of it. He's shooting the three with confidence.
• 15:15
Speaker 1: He's being active on defense. He's going to do one
• 15:18
Speaker 1: or two things every single game that fucking infuriate you
• 15:22
Speaker 1: and drive you up a wall. Some of the dumbest
• 15:24
Speaker 1: shit you'll ever see. But that's just the Josh Hart experience. And,
• 15:30
Speaker 1: you know, listen, when he's shooting, I don't even think
• 15:34
  Speaker 1: he's shooting at such a high clip. Like, I don't
• 15:36
Speaker 1: think his shooting numbers are super high tonight. Like, I'm
• 15:39
Speaker 1: talking about how well he's shooting. And tonight he was
• 15:42
Speaker 1: 0 for 3 from behind the arc and 1 of
• 15:44
Speaker 1: 6 from the field. But we've seen Josh be hesitant
• 15:49
Speaker 1: and be a little bit nervous. But we've also seen
• 15:52
Speaker 1: Josh this year just change. Catch that thing. He's ready
• 15:56
Speaker 1: to shoot it. The game against Detroit, the shot, when
• 15:59
Speaker 1: Detroit started to come back, the game that Josh Hart
• 16:01
Speaker 1: shot that pretty much closed out the game, yo, he
• 16:05
Speaker 1: was like, give me the ball, give me the ball.
• 16:07
  Speaker 2: Wah!
• 16:09
Speaker 1: I love that energy from Josh. That's so important. But, yeah,
• 16:13
Speaker 1: at least one dumb shit, one dumb thing every single game. Yeah,
• 16:17
Speaker 1: the cat fouling. I mean, I wrote that twice in
• 16:19
Speaker 1: my notes, first half and then again in the third
• 16:21
Speaker 1: quarter when he picked up the fourth. it's really shocking
• 16:25
Speaker 1: sometimes to see Brunson miss some of the floaters that
• 16:27
Speaker 1: he was missing at the beginning of the game. But
• 16:29
Speaker 1: today was more like what we typically expect where he
• 16:33
Speaker 1: comes back. Landry Shamit, I thought that he had a
• 16:37
Speaker 1: strong game, obviously hit a bunch of threes. You know,
• 16:40
Speaker 1: Shamit was four of seven from behind the arc, hit
• 16:42
Speaker 1: some big ones in that comeback run in the fourth quarter,
• 16:46
Speaker 1: and where it was just kicked to him where he
• 16:47
Speaker 1: was wide open, and you just feel like that's going down.
• 16:49
Speaker 1: And that's been the issue for the Knicks thus far
• 16:51
Speaker 1: this season. They have not been a good three-point shooting team.
• 16:54
Speaker 1: But today they shoot the cover off the ball, 22
• 16:56
Speaker 1: of 48, 45% from behind the arc. And, you know,
• 17:01
Speaker 1: when the Knicks play like that, they're going to win.
• 17:03
Speaker 1: When the Knicks shoot nine of 38 from three, like
• 17:05
Speaker 1: I believe they did against Orlando, they're going to lose.
• 17:10
Speaker 1: It's really hard. And you've got to keep the turnovers low.
• 17:13
Speaker 1: The Knicks didn't have a ton of turnovers today. They
• 17:16
Speaker 1: had a grand total of 12, and they had that
• 17:18
Speaker 1: 12– I remember them saying they had 12. If it
• 17:21
Speaker 1: wasn't early in the fourth quarter, it might even have
• 17:23
Speaker 1: been late in the third. So that means they really
• 17:25
Speaker 1: took care of the ball down the stretch. And, you know,
• 17:30
Speaker 1: down the stretch, what we really saw more than anything
• 17:34
Speaker 1: else was Captain Clutch. Oh, I want to say real quick,
• 17:38
Speaker 1: Deuce McBride. Active on the defense. Three's not falling. When
• 17:42
Speaker 1: Deuce is active on the defense, he's making a couple plays.
• 17:44
Speaker 1: He got away with a tackle at one point when
• 17:46
Speaker 1: they showed the replay. I could not believe he didn't
• 17:49
Speaker 1: get called for a foul. I mean, he fucking tackled.
• 17:52
Speaker 1: What's his name? Boozealus. Boozealus, whatever his name is. But, yeah,
• 17:57
Speaker 1: Deuce being active on D, a game changer. Changes everything
• 18:00
Speaker 1: for us. We don't have another point of defense, you know,
• 18:06
Speaker 1: head of the snake guy who can really, like, you know,
• 18:08
Speaker 1: make some Some plays and, you know, and give you
• 18:13
Speaker 1: some impact there is very important because Alvarado does that.
• 18:17
Speaker 1: Bridges does it, but not like he's not stealing the
• 18:20
Speaker 1: ball from you and like being pesky. But he's but
• 18:22
  Speaker 1: he's obviously a very good defender. I did a great
• 18:24
Speaker 1: job on Cade last night. But your boy, your boy
• 18:29
Speaker 1: Deuce tonight, man. Come on, Deuce. I love it. I
• 18:32
Speaker 1: love it. I love it when you play like that. Again,
• 18:34
Speaker 1: wasn't hitting his threes. They weren't dropping for him tonight,
• 18:36
Speaker 1: but he was doing what he had to do. Again,
• 18:39
Speaker 1: Cat was fantastic tonight, and I thought everybody at certain
• 18:44
Speaker 1: points stepped up to D. Overall, the D wasn't great.
• 18:47
Speaker 1: It wasn't good consistently, which is why you see the
• 18:50
Speaker 1: lowly Bulls getting 127 points. But then Jalen Brunson, who
• 18:56
Speaker 1: he was kind of off at certain points. Like I said,
• 18:57
Speaker 1: he's missing floaters that you're used to him hitting. And
• 19:01
Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, Jalen Brunson is just in
• 19:05
Speaker 1: his bag. Getting to the rim.
• 19:09
  Speaker 2: Layup.
• 19:10
Speaker 1: Turn around, footwork, short fadeaway. Splash. A little hezy-hezy, in
• 19:17
Speaker 1: and out, jump shot.
• 19:18
  Speaker 2: Bang.
• 19:19
Speaker 1: And then he starts doing the, I'm going to just
• 19:22
Speaker 1: jab you, look you down from behind three-point line, and
• 19:24
Speaker 1: you just get on your heels for a second. I'm
• 19:27
Speaker 1: going to pull up in your mug. He was doing
• 19:29
Speaker 1: that shit against seven-footers. Jalen Brunson tonight reminded everybody why
• 19:35
Speaker 1: he's the captain, why he was the finals MVP, why
• 19:39
Speaker 1: he's the king of New York. JB came out there and,
• 19:45
Speaker 1: you know, took that game over in the fourth quarter.
• 19:48
Speaker 1: I wrote that in my notes when he came back
• 19:50
Speaker 1: in the game and he hit like two. I think
• 19:51
Speaker 1: it was after that fadeaway at about the elbow, and
• 19:55
Speaker 1: it just splashed right in and didn't touch anything. And
• 19:57
Speaker 1: I wrote that in my notes. Is it captain time?
• 20:02
Speaker 1: Is it captain time? Yo, William Wallace... J-1, I don't
• 20:08
Speaker 1: even know how to say all that. A hole two
• 20:11
Speaker 1: with the, I don't know what that means. So please
• 20:14
Speaker 1: explain yourself. But yeah, man, these Knicks, you know, they
• 20:18
Speaker 1: do have a hole two wins on the season thus far.
• 20:21
Speaker 1: But just also, I should have wrote this down just
• 20:25
Speaker 1: so I can give them credit. Somebody tweeted earlier, let's
• 20:27
Speaker 1: not forget, I think it was my man Rook, actually.
• 20:30
Speaker 1: Shout out to Rook. He said, let's not forget that,
• 20:34
Speaker 1: you know, Chicago was 5-0 last year. Memphis right now
• 20:38
Speaker 1: is 4-0. I don't know if they played tonight or not.
• 20:42
Speaker 1: So let's not, you know, take it easy. Take it easy.
• 20:45
Speaker 1: Knicks are 2-3. They're defending champs. And we've seen, you know,
• 20:49
Speaker 1: these last two games that there is a certain level
• 20:51
Speaker 1: that they still can get to. For them, really, it's
• 20:54
Speaker 1: about activity on defense and hitting threes. And those two things,
• 20:58
Speaker 1: you know, my pops always likes to say, those two
• 21:00
Speaker 1: things are one and the same. Because we're playing active
• 21:02
Speaker 1: on defense. We're getting some turnovers. Then all of a sudden,
• 21:05
Speaker 1: you know, we get out, we run, and it leads
• 21:07
Speaker 1: to easy shots, which leads to guys hitting threes. And
• 21:10
Speaker 1: it leads to, you know, guys, you know, sometimes in
• 21:13
Speaker 1: those fast breaks in today's NBA getting kicked out for
• 21:16
Speaker 1: a wide open three. So shout to the Knicks and,
• 21:19
Speaker 1: you know, them getting it done. But it's only two
• 21:21
Speaker 1: and three. We're not going to get too crazy. But
• 21:24
Speaker 1: it was a good game tonight. It was a good comeback.
• 21:26
Speaker 1: I'm telling you, when they were down 19, I was like,
• 21:27
Speaker 1: come on, man. Come on, man. Don't do this bullshit.
• 21:31
Speaker 1: But I didn't feel like they were out of it. Obviously,
• 21:32
Speaker 1: I mean, look, I'm a Knicks fan. We never feel
• 21:34
Speaker 1: like we're out of it. My oldest daughter, she loves
• 21:39
Speaker 1: her some Mets. She's only kind of into the Knicks. But,
• 21:43
Speaker 1: you know, when she got, because the girls were out
• 21:47
Speaker 1: doing something, they came home. Me and my son were
• 21:50
Speaker 1: watching the game, and they're like, yo, what? And he's
• 21:53
Speaker 1: explaining it to them. I don't even know if they
• 21:54
Speaker 1: really care to hear it. My wife at least acts
• 21:56
Speaker 1: like she does. But my daughter was like, and he
• 22:00
Speaker 1: was like, they were down by 19, and now they're
• 22:02
Speaker 1: up by six or something like that. And she's like,
• 22:04
Speaker 1: that's not what they always do, the Knicks. They always
• 22:06
Speaker 1: just come back. I was like, yeah, that's what we
• 22:09
Speaker 1: always do. That's what the Knicks do. That's what the
• 22:11
Speaker 1: Knicks flag does. If you heard that story the other
• 22:13
Speaker 1: day that I told that was returned, I won't tell
• 22:16
Speaker 1: it again for my few loyal listeners. But, yeah, man,
• 22:22
Speaker 1: make sure you hit that like and that subscribe. We
• 22:24
Speaker 1: got a lot of viewers in here tonight. More than usual,
• 22:27
Speaker 1: I appreciate y'all with the new eyes. Hit subscribe for
• 22:30
Speaker 1: your boy, okay? We just passed 500. We're on to 1,000,
• 22:33
Speaker 1: and we need your help. Yeah, man, so good win
• 22:36
Speaker 1: for the Knicks. Good win for the Knicks. Baum, is
• 22:39
Speaker 1: there anything I missed when it comes to the Knicks?
• 22:41
Speaker 1: Anything you have to add?
• 22:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, I just got to fill in the gaps that
• 22:43
Speaker 2: you asked me to fill here. So first off, the
• 22:47
Speaker 2: Knicks had one turnover in the fourth quarter. So by
• 22:49
Speaker 2: the time they finished with 12, they had 11. They
• 22:52
Speaker 2: had one turnover, and it was a shot clock violation
• 22:54
Speaker 2: with 224 to go in the game. I mean, you know,
• 22:58
Speaker 2: tough in that situation when it was close, but still.
• 23:01
Speaker 2: Mikael Bridges, his final minutes, he got subbed out at
• 23:04
Speaker 2: the 808 mark of the third quarter. So we did
• 23:07
Speaker 2: end up playing the second half, but it was not
• 23:09
Speaker 2: very long, and it was right after a turnover. And then, yeah,
• 23:12
Speaker 2: just on cap and fouls, he had at least four
• 23:15
Speaker 2: fouls in four of the five games so far. That's
• 23:18
  Speaker 2: not great.
• 23:20
Speaker 1: If you'd have told me he's had 5,000 every single game,
• 23:22
Speaker 1: I'd be like, yeah, that tracks. It's crazy, yo. He's
• 23:26
Speaker 1: got to chill. But, man, when the threes drop... The
• 23:30
Speaker 1: most frustrating part is that he's playing phenomenal. He's playing
• 23:35
Speaker 1: under control. He is dominating down low. He's hitting the
• 23:39
Speaker 1: threes and getting enough of those up to be able
• 23:44
Speaker 1: to maximize his true value as a player. And yet, he...
• 23:49
Speaker 1: The only thing that stops him is not being able
• 23:51
Speaker 1: to be on the floor. Had a scary fall early
• 23:54
Speaker 1: in the game. Got knocked down. He was holding the ball.
• 23:58
Speaker 1: Somebody was trying to run a screen, you know, like
• 23:59
Speaker 1: do a dribble handoff. And so then, you know, God
• 24:02
Speaker 1: hits him hard. He, you know, falls to the ground.
• 24:04
Speaker 1: He puts his hand down, immediately starts writhing in pain.
• 24:07
Speaker 1: He's grabbing his left wrist. I had to give my
• 24:09
Speaker 1: son a little history lesson that, you know, how dramatic
• 24:12
Speaker 1: the PTSD I was dealing with because at one point,
• 24:16
Speaker 1: Patrick Ewing, I want to say in the 1999 season,
• 24:21
Speaker 1: you know, he went down, put his hand down, and
• 24:24
Speaker 1: broke his wrist and was out for most of that season.
• 24:26
Speaker 1: That's the season that the Knicks ended up going to
• 24:28
Speaker 1: the championship, and he came back. Speaking of that, my
• 24:30
Speaker 1: son today asked me about, he's like, that guy that
• 24:32
Speaker 1: you took the picture with when you were there, what
• 24:35
Speaker 1: was his name? I said Latrell Sprewell. And he goes, oh, yeah,
• 24:37
Speaker 1: that guy. And I was like, yo, Sprewell's nice. And
• 24:40
Speaker 1: so I had to show him some Spree highlights. I
• 24:42
Speaker 1: had to throw the Spree highlights on him. I had
• 24:44
Speaker 1: to educate the young man. But, yeah, so when he
• 24:50
Speaker 1: goes down, I'm a little bit nervous. Comes back, wrist
• 24:53
Speaker 1: is wrapped up. He's good. He's playing great. He's just
• 24:56
Speaker 1: got to avoid the fouls, man. That's the thing. Like,
• 24:59
Speaker 1: he gets a couple fouls just because he's playing hard.
• 25:02
Speaker 1: Maybe he's a little bit out of position. Okay. It's
• 25:04
Speaker 1: the moving on the picks and the flailing or hooking
• 25:09
Speaker 1: of the arms on offense. If he could just eliminate
• 25:13
  Speaker 1: those two things, I– I really don't, I wouldn't have
• 25:16
Speaker 1: any gripes with you, Cat. That's it. I'm a Cat supporter.
• 25:20
Speaker 1: I always have been. But last year, when he turned
• 25:23
Speaker 1: himself into a plus defender, which he has continued this season,
• 25:26
Speaker 1: to go along with the unbelievable rebounding. And then, I mean,
• 25:30
Speaker 1: typically it's just defensively, but now he's getting like four
• 25:32
Speaker 1: offensive rebounds a game. And now he's dominating in the
• 25:35
Speaker 1: paint like a big man should, and he's still the
• 25:37
Speaker 1: greatest big man shooter of all time. Just stop fouling.
• 25:40
Speaker 1: You're fucking a perfect player. Just come on, Cat. You
• 25:45
Speaker 1: got this. You got this. Stop fouling. Listen, I've already
• 25:47
Speaker 1: seen this guy mature and evolve his game since he's
• 25:52
Speaker 1: been a Knick. So there's no reason to believe that
• 25:55
Speaker 1: the foul woes won't be the next thing that he
• 25:58
Speaker 1: figures out. Wishful thinking. The Jets, man. Obviously, we know
• 26:03
Speaker 1: the Jets season is over. We know that they just
• 26:04
Speaker 1: lost to the Miami Dolphins. They play the Raiders this week. And,
• 26:08
Speaker 1: you know, really the best thing that the Jets got
• 26:10
Speaker 1: going for them is what a dumpster fire the Colts are.
• 26:14
Speaker 1: And so, you know, that'll be a nice solid pick
• 26:17
Speaker 1: there that we get from the Colts. And, you know,
• 26:20
Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn is under all the scrutiny in the world
• 26:22
Speaker 1: for all the reasons that he should be. The end-of-half
• 26:25
Speaker 1: clock management, which everybody's talked about, and also just the
• 26:31
Speaker 1: ineptitude of the defense, especially in, you know, big situations
• 26:36
Speaker 1: with him being a, you know, defensive coordinator and the
• 26:40
Speaker 1: guy called the defensive plays. And there's two things specifically
• 26:43
Speaker 1: that I want to talk about when it comes to
• 26:45
Speaker 1: the Jets. And the first thing is, and I talked
• 26:51
Speaker 1: about this, I put out a reel from the last
• 26:54
Speaker 1: one that we did on Monday. I was saying, yo,
• 26:58
Speaker 1: you got to get Garrett Wilson the ball. The lack
• 27:02
Speaker 1: of targets is ridiculous. And Geno Smith talking about how
• 27:08
Speaker 1: he lets the play dictate where the ball goes is
• 27:13
Speaker 1: also ridiculous. Yes. Should you continue to force it to
• 27:17
Speaker 1: a guy over and over again? No. If a guy's
• 27:19
Speaker 1: being doubled, you know, and it leaves other people wide open,
• 27:22
Speaker 1: should you throw it to them?
• 27:23
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 27:24
Speaker 1: But the Jamar chases of the world, the JSNs of
• 27:29
Speaker 1: the world, the Puka Nakua's of the world, you think
• 27:33
Speaker 1: those guys don't get a ton of attention, but yet
• 27:36
Speaker 1: they get the ball thrown to them. 15 times a
• 27:39
Speaker 1: game sometimes. CeeDee Lamb. I could go on and on
• 27:44
Speaker 1: with examples. And somehow the Jets don't figure out a
• 27:49
Speaker 1: way to do that. Baum, could you by chance, can
• 27:52
Speaker 1: you find Garrett Wilson's quotes from today?
• 27:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, I can. I'll get those up right now for
• 28:00
Speaker 2: you and get them rolling. But I know it had
• 28:01
Speaker 2: something to do with targets and not wanting to be traded. Eat.
• 28:05
Speaker 1: But do you know what, though? The thing is that
• 28:07
Speaker 1: he didn't, this is the thing, is I read him
• 28:10
Speaker 1: and I was like, I need to go see it.
• 28:12
Speaker 1: And I went and I looked at it. He says
• 28:14
Speaker 1: he doesn't want to get traded. He says he loves
• 28:17
Speaker 1: it here. But he also says, like, he loves it here,
• 28:21
Speaker 1: but not as much as he loves winning. You know,
• 28:27
Speaker 1: if you're a Jet fan like me, you should be terrified.
• 28:30
Speaker 1: Are you terrified? Because I'm pretty scared. the last thing
• 28:35
Speaker 1: I need is Garrett Wilson being like, man, get me
• 28:37
Speaker 1: up out of here. We just signed him to an extension,
• 28:41
Speaker 1: big money. He's owed at least, I think 60 more
• 28:44
Speaker 1: million dollars. I think it was 90 million total. I
• 28:46
Speaker 1: think he gets, you know, 30 something of that this year.
• 28:48
Speaker 1: So 60 more million dollars guaranteed. And so I'm, I just, I, that's,
• 28:56
  Speaker 1: I can't, I can't get rid of us getting rid
• 28:58
Speaker 1: of G5. Cause if G5 goes somewhere, I saw somebody
• 29:00
Speaker 1: talking about early. I'm pretty sure. I don't know what
• 29:02
Speaker 1: show it was on. It's in the, on in the background.
• 29:04
Speaker 1: Might have been first take. They've said like if not,
• 29:06
Speaker 1: I don't know what it was. Anyway, they said that
• 29:09
Speaker 1: if like a team like the Chiefs were able to
• 29:13
Speaker 1: get Garen Wilson right now, he was like, I'd make
• 29:15
Speaker 1: them AFC favorites right then. Like people, unless you watch
• 29:20
Speaker 1: Jet games every single week like I do and like
• 29:25
Speaker 1: us Jets fans do, people don't realize how good this
• 29:28
Speaker 1: guy is because the Jets have never given him the
• 29:32
Speaker 1: infrastructure to be able to Show how good he is.
• 29:37
Speaker 1: So Jets, come on, man. Figure this out.
• 29:40
  Speaker 2: Out.
• 29:40
Speaker 1: Feed him the ball. I don't care. Like Gino, throw
• 29:44
Speaker 1: him the ball. Ten targets is the minimum. It's the minimum.
• 29:50
  Speaker 1: Come on, guys.
• 29:50
  Speaker 2: Come on.
• 29:51
Speaker 1: Figure this out. I can't see my guy Garrigan out
• 29:54
Speaker 1: of here. What do you say, Bob?
• 29:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, Goody, that was basically the exact quote that you said.
• 29:59
Speaker 2: you know, in regards to winning. So yeah, you actually
• 30:03
Speaker 2: nailed that one pretty good. And then there was also
• 30:06
Speaker 2: just a lot of talk about his frustration with the offense.
• 30:08
Speaker 2: The exact quote was, I want to be here, man.
• 30:11
Speaker 2: I want to win games. That's the one thing we've
• 30:14
Speaker 2: been missing on here. I love it here. Do I
• 30:16
Speaker 2: love it more than winning or do I more than
• 30:18
Speaker 2: I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest.
• 30:24
Speaker 1: I mean, how much more clear are you going to be?
• 30:27
Speaker 1: Come on, man. We got, we got, we got a,
• 30:31
Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn is fighting to be able to keep his job.
• 30:35
Speaker 1: The Jets organization is fighting to be able to keep
• 30:37
Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson. We got to show him something to make
• 30:42
Speaker 1: him want to be a part of this organization moving forward. Fuck, man.
• 30:51
  Speaker 1: I can't, I can't deal with him going somewhere else
• 30:53
Speaker 1: and just popping off and being a man. I can't.
• 30:56
Speaker 1: I can't. I don't want to deal with that shit. Uh,
• 30:59
Speaker 1: we also got, uh, um, um, some, some news today that, uh,
• 31:03
Speaker 1: Ernie Johnson is retiring. So, uh, you know, when I
• 31:07
Speaker 1: first see that, not gonna lie, just because of his recent,
• 31:10
Speaker 1: you know, health issues and things like that, my first
• 31:12
Speaker 1: reaction is like, oh shit. But then he, you know,
• 31:15
Speaker 1: put out a nice video where he said like, Hey,
• 31:16
Speaker 1: basically like, you know, getting up and preparing every day is,
• 31:20
Speaker 1: has become a burden. I mean, you know, and that's
• 31:22
Speaker 1: what I knew. I always told myself that when that
• 31:24
Speaker 1: became the case, I would get out of there. I
• 31:26
Speaker 1: love it that he's, you know, announcing it now so
• 31:28
Speaker 1: he'll get the proper farewell tour that he deserves. And
• 31:33
Speaker 1: he said that he has been having some heart issues
• 31:36
Speaker 1: that they're figuring, they're working out, but it doesn't, you know,
• 31:39
Speaker 1: he doesn't feel too, you know, he didn't seem too
• 31:43
Speaker 1: nervous about it. But let's be honest, you know, when
• 31:50
Speaker 1: Ernie was going through the worst, he was still super optimistic.
• 31:53
Speaker 1: So I'm hoping that, you know, he is good. um
• 31:56
Speaker 1: and you know just i mean class personified one of
• 32:00
Speaker 1: the best to ever do it um absolutely always invited
• 32:04
Speaker 1: to the cookout and um man shout out to ernie
• 32:08
Speaker 1: man you know i'm glad like i said i'm glad
• 32:09
Speaker 1: he's gonna get his uh his his farewell tour um
• 32:13
Speaker 1: and you know i'm just uh i'm thankful to been
• 32:16
Speaker 1: been you know been alive for this whole ernie era
• 32:19
Speaker 1: and him being able to be the traffic conductor for
• 32:23
Speaker 1: that inside the NBA team, which ain't an easy job,
• 32:27
Speaker 1: but do it like with like, you know, unbelievable for professionalism,
• 32:32
Speaker 1: a great personality and like some swag too. You know
• 32:36
Speaker 1: what I mean? Like, like, like, come on, man. Shout
• 32:38
Speaker 1: to Ernie. Uh, bum. I know you love Ernie. I
• 32:40
Speaker 1: know you're Ernie guy.
• 32:42
Speaker 2: Talk to me. Huge, huge DJ guy. Um, so it
• 32:45
Speaker 2: was definitely emotional for me too. I mean, I know
• 32:48
Speaker 2: there's been kind of rumors of it coming, like even
• 32:50
Speaker 2: in the last couple of weeks, uh, It had been
• 32:52
Speaker 2: kind of hinted before the season started that this was
• 32:54
Speaker 2: probably going to be it. It was just kind of unconfirmed,
• 32:56
Speaker 2: and it got confirmed today. But, yeah, he is everything
• 33:00
Speaker 2: that journalism should be. Grace, professionalism, objectivity, you know, and
• 33:06
Speaker 2: just has the personality, too. Like you said, just it's
• 33:10
Speaker 2: pretty hard to manage those three guys, Shaq, Kenny. Well,
• 33:15
Speaker 2: Kenny's not that hard. Kenny, I'm not Kenny. He's pretty chill.
• 33:18
Speaker 2: Shaq and Chuck, on the other hand, trying to break
• 33:19
Speaker 2: those two up, I mean, on a nightly basis, that's... Ooh, man,
• 33:24
Speaker 2: that's a lot of ego for one room.
• 33:25
Speaker 1: They just keep them on the rails.
• 33:27
Speaker 2: And, you know, with that show in particular, it kind
• 33:31
Speaker 2: of revolutionized the way studio shows were made because them
• 33:38
Speaker 2: just ad-libbing and going off a script or just going
• 33:41
Speaker 2: off script all the time and just thoroughly enjoying it.
• 33:45
Speaker 2: You know, the analysis part wasn't, you don't go to
• 33:47
Speaker 2: that show for analysis. Like, let's be real. It's like,
• 33:51
  Speaker 2: it's 3% ball knowledge analysis and it's 97%. We're just
• 33:55
Speaker 2: going to riff and have a great time. Yeah. Just
• 33:58
Speaker 2: kicking it, having a blast. And, you know, EJ was
• 34:02
Speaker 2: able to keep all of that on the rails while
• 34:04
Speaker 2: letting those guys still be themselves. It was just unreal.
• 34:10
Speaker 2: You know, the way he always carried himself and just,
• 34:13
Speaker 2: How much of a pro's pro he was.
• 34:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, man. Shout to Ernie, man.
• 34:19
Speaker 2: Yeah. Shout out DJ, man. Salute to you. Here's your flowers. Yeah. Respect.
• 34:26
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Like I said, it'll be fun to watch
• 34:28
Speaker 1: him get his farewell tour this year for sure. And
• 34:32
Speaker 1: I just, yeah, like they were the first people like
• 34:35
Speaker 1: in a studio show to make it just like a
• 34:38
Speaker 1: hangout for sure. For sure.
• 34:39
  Speaker 2: For sure.
• 34:40
Speaker 1: Um, and yeah, I wanted to mention real quick, just
• 34:42
Speaker 1: because you said this a little bit off topic, uh,
• 34:45
Speaker 1: you said like, that's not where you go for your analysis.
• 34:47
Speaker 1: If you want to like get like breakdowns of somebody
• 34:50
Speaker 1: who clearly was a legit ball player, I've seen videos
• 34:54
Speaker 1: of playing by a legit ball player in college. Um,
• 34:56
Speaker 1: and like really gives you the breakdown of like, just
• 35:01
Speaker 1: what's really happening on the court from, um, analytics, and
• 35:05
Speaker 1: then just, like, from a basketball standpoint, like, when he's explaining, like,
• 35:08
Speaker 1: when this guy flare screens and it gets swing to
• 35:10
Speaker 1: the opposite side and ba-ba-ba-ba-ba, but does it in a
• 35:12
Speaker 1: way that's easily digestible and he's not a nerd. Jason Tempf.
• 35:17
Speaker 1: Jason Tempf. I'm sorry. Jason Tempf on Hoops Tonight. I
• 35:21
Speaker 1: watch him, honestly, almost every day. Fantastic. His breakdown of
• 35:26
Speaker 1: basketball and shit, he's fantastic. So good. But, again, shout
• 35:30
Speaker 1: to Ernie. In the NBA, the injury bug. Yo. Oh, man. See,
• 35:35
Speaker 1: I'm one of these people. A lot of people act
• 35:39
Speaker 1: like they don't root for injuries, but they do. They
• 35:41
Speaker 1: really do. I don't root for injury. The latest to
• 35:45
Speaker 1: come through was Tyrese Halliburton. And there's no player in
• 35:48
Speaker 1: the league that I dislike more than him, except for
• 35:51
Speaker 1: Embiid and Wemby. And so, you know, he comes up
• 35:55
Speaker 1: with a hammy today. Luckily, it sounds like it's only
• 35:57
Speaker 1: going to be a couple weeks. Then you got... Anthony Edwards, dude.
• 36:04
  Speaker 2: You know what?
• 36:05
Speaker 1: You know what? I'm going to sit here and go
• 36:06
Speaker 1: through them. Before we get into them, Paul, give us
• 36:08
Speaker 1: the rundown. Give us the rundown of the major injuries
• 36:11
Speaker 1: we've seen amongst NBA stars and contributors this year.
• 36:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been a brutal opening week, so to speak.
• 36:18
Speaker 2: So we just covered, obviously, Howie week to week at
• 36:21
Speaker 2: this point. And they said he's just going to be
• 36:23
Speaker 2: reevaluated in two weeks, not he'll be back in two weeks.
• 36:27
Speaker 2: Anthony Edwards, minimum of two months with that knee surgery.
• 36:30
Speaker 2: It did start last week with Apollo Bancaro, an ankle injury.
• 36:34
Speaker 2: Re-evaluated about four to six weeks. Then yesterday comes out,
• 36:39
Speaker 2: we have Jaron Jackson Jr. Tours MCL, six to eight weeks.
• 36:43
  Speaker 1: He stayed hurt.
• 36:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, he just, God, he is living, he lived on
• 36:48
Speaker 2: my aisle plus during our Dynasty League. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 36:52
Speaker 2: You know who he is?
• 36:53
Speaker 1: You know who he is? He's Anthony Davis.
• 36:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, so Anthony Davis is way better.
• 36:59
Speaker 1: Listen. They're similar players. Anthony Davis is better, no doubt.
• 37:02
Speaker 1: Fully healthy Anthony Davis is way better than JJJ. But
• 37:05
Speaker 1: I feel like we never even really get to see
• 37:07
Speaker 1: where he could go, you know, as far as, you know,
• 37:11
Speaker 1: his full potential because of the injuries. But there was
• 37:13
Speaker 1: a time when JJJ was young, when he's like his
• 37:17
Speaker 1: second or third year where people were like, yo, this
• 37:19
Speaker 1: dude could end up coming because he had a defense,
• 37:23
  Speaker 1: he could shoot.
• 37:23
Speaker 2: He never got to the offense because of John Bain.
• 37:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, to a certain extent. I ain't putting that on them, man. Look,
• 37:32
Speaker 1: John Dane playing together right now, and they're figuring out
• 37:34
Speaker 1: a way to make it happen, right? Portland's a dark horse. Portland,
• 37:39
Speaker 1: have you watched Portland? I know you out there. Have
• 37:41
Speaker 1: you watched them yet this season?
• 37:42
Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I have.
• 37:42
Speaker 1: They're so much fun to watch.
• 37:44
Speaker 2: Dude, they are so fun. Yeah, man.
• 37:46
Speaker 1: Yeah. Dollar looks like him old self. They have two
• 37:49
Speaker 1: elite drivers of the basketball in Ja and Advia. And then... Yeah,
• 37:56
Speaker 1: you might low-key becoming a Portland fan. I'm thinking about
• 38:00
Speaker 1: all the reasons you have to be a Portland fan.
• 38:02
  Speaker 2: I know. I will never pull a Dom. I will
• 38:04
Speaker 2: never pull a Dom. Will I pull for the Blazers?
• 38:06
  Speaker 1: Yes.
• 38:07
Speaker 2: They're fun to watch. I'd go to the games. They're
• 38:09
  Speaker 2: a good time.
• 38:10
Speaker 1: Interesting man on that team. They just got to stay healthy.
• 38:13
Speaker 1: It's good to see Ja back in the league. League
• 38:15
Speaker 1: better when Ja's doing his thing. I'm sorry, what?
• 38:18
Speaker 2: Still dubs through and through. Yeah, yeah. They got a
• 38:20
Speaker 2: nice win tonight, too, by the way.
• 38:21
Speaker 1: Yo, they got that. What's up with the rookie, man?
• 38:24
Speaker 2: We're going to get to that in a minute after
• 38:25
Speaker 2: we get to the injuries. Okay.
• 38:26
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 38:27
Speaker 2: I got some, I got some nice notes on my guy.
• 38:30
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 38:31
Speaker 2: Okay. Um, but yeah, going back to the injuries, Kawhi Monday,
• 38:35
  Speaker 2: knee swelling out.
• 38:37
  Speaker 1: No suppressant.
• 38:38
Speaker 2: I know. Right. Then, um, Jalen Duren hamstring out at
• 38:42
Speaker 2: least two weeks after holding out for all that money too. That's,
• 38:46
Speaker 2: Absolutely brutal for Detroit.
• 38:47
Speaker 1: It almost always happens because during that holdout, there's a
• 38:50
Speaker 1: certain level of workout hard that you probably don't want
• 38:53
  Speaker 1: to do.
• 38:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, just didn't seem ready, especially that soft tissue. And
• 38:59
Speaker 2: the last one, oh, man, this one was tough to watch. Yeah,
• 39:03
Speaker 2: Jalen Williams, just absolutely gruesome.
• 39:06
  Speaker 1: I still haven't seen it. I haven't seen it.
• 39:08
Speaker 2: Do yourself a favor and don't do it.
• 39:10
Speaker 1: I listen when I, when somebody tells me when I
• 39:12
Speaker 1: hear that shit, I listen and I do like, uh,
• 39:15
Speaker 1: what's an injury that like the DAC injury still have
• 39:17
  Speaker 1: never seen.
• 39:18
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 39:18
Speaker 1: Well, as soon as somebody told me what it was,
• 39:21
Speaker 1: I just, I, now I just, ah, ah, my fucking
• 39:25
Speaker 1: son saw one of my funds. Son's homeboys showed him
• 39:27
Speaker 1: on his cell phone on his cell phone.
• 39:29
Speaker 2: I ain't, I was going to say, do you remember
• 39:34
Speaker 2: the Kevin Ware one, the national championship game in Louisville?
• 39:38
Speaker 2: It was like that.
• 39:39
  Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
• 39:41
Speaker 2: Okay, all right. Hold on, hold on.
• 39:44
Speaker 1: Who else for OKC got hurt? Because it wasn't just
• 39:46
  Speaker 1: Jalen Williams.
• 39:46
Speaker 2: Caruso got hurt. Yeah, so he's out a few weeks.
• 39:50
Speaker 1: Caruso's out now too?
• 39:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, Caruso's out a few weeks. And then Cason Wallace
• 39:54
  Speaker 2: had shoulder surgery.
• 39:55
Speaker 1: Cason Wallace had torn labrum. And the Thunder down by
• 40:00
Speaker 1: 17 to the Mavericks right now.
• 40:01
Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Dude, they're banged up. You know, they may miss
• 40:05
Speaker 2: those guys for quite some time, and it can very
• 40:08
Speaker 2: much impact their season.
• 40:10
Speaker 1: Jalen Williams is definitely done for the year.
• 40:12
Speaker 2: You know. He's going to be re-evaluated at the end
• 40:14
Speaker 2: of the regular season, which.
• 40:16
Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, that's, I mean, minimum at the end
• 40:18
Speaker 1: of the year. Now, we've seen Gordon Haywards, you know,
• 40:21
Speaker 1: guys like that come back from shit like this before.
• 40:23
Speaker 1: Paul George or whatever. But, yeah, it's just bad, man.
• 40:26
Speaker 1: And this guy, you know, I mean, he's an elite player.
• 40:30
Speaker 1: An elite, elite player.
• 40:32
Speaker 2: He's one of the top number twos in the league.
• 40:34
Speaker 1: Exactly. One of the three best numbers twos. Yes, yes.
• 40:38
  Speaker 1: That's a good assessment.
• 40:42
Speaker 2: The other interesting stat, though, I've got to bring up.
• 40:46
Speaker 2: 79 players today popped up on the 230 Eastern injury
• 40:50
Speaker 2: report today with either sickness or injury or something. That's
• 40:53
Speaker 2: 15% of the league. That's not a number to sneeze at.
• 41:01
  Speaker 1: You make a good point. I, you know, there's a
• 41:03
Speaker 1: lot going on. I should go get the tinfoil fitted because, um,
• 41:06
Speaker 1: you know, I, sometimes I look at like the injuries
• 41:08
Speaker 1: now and I think that there's a combination of, as, uh, our,
• 41:12
Speaker 1: you know, our board, Danny was talking about earlier in
• 41:14
Speaker 1: the chat and my guy, Chuck D shot the Chuck
• 41:16
Speaker 1: rhyme animal. Um, he, as he has talked about on
• 41:20
Speaker 1: Nick's Twitter, the fact that, you know, these guys, the
• 41:23
Speaker 1: way that they ramp up and the way that they like,
• 41:27
Speaker 1: you know, just kind of go through the motions in
• 41:30
Speaker 1: training camp and whatnot, and they work out hard in
• 41:33
Speaker 1: the summer. Obviously, you see the development of these guys
• 41:36
Speaker 1: and how good they get. They're working out hard in
• 41:37
Speaker 1: the summer, but they're not playing hard basketball a lot
• 41:40
Speaker 1: in the summer. And then they get into training camp,
• 41:43
Speaker 1: and then you're trying to preserve their bodies, so you
• 41:45
Speaker 1: don't do that a lot. And then in preseason, they
• 41:47
Speaker 1: barely play, so they don't do that a lot. And
• 41:49
Speaker 1: then the lights turn on, and everybody's playing their hardest.
• 41:53
Speaker 1: And I think that there is something, too, these guys
• 41:56
Speaker 1: getting some of these soft tissue injuries because they have
• 41:59
Speaker 1: not built up a callus, per se, as people do
• 42:02
Speaker 1: when they play football. And I think that it's, you know,
• 42:06
Speaker 1: in both football and basketball, you see it. The holdout
• 42:09
Speaker 1: guy always gets hurt.
• 42:12
  Speaker 2: Always gets hurt.
• 42:15
Speaker 1: In football specifically, because that's more of a holdout because
• 42:19
Speaker 1: there's no guaranteed contract situation. But the holdouts in football,
• 42:22
Speaker 1: I mean, come on. We've seen that shit a million times, dude.
• 42:26
Speaker 1: That shit is definitely a thing. So we really hope
• 42:31
Speaker 1: that these guys, they get back. I mean, Ant was
• 42:34
Speaker 1: looking like the best player in the league.
• 42:36
Speaker 2: Dude, and his biggest thing with him up until last
• 42:39
Speaker 2: year was his durability. He was playing all but, what,
• 42:42
Speaker 2: one game every season? Yeah. Yep.
• 42:45
  Speaker 1: Pooping.
• 42:46
Speaker 2: Yep. Dude, he was just, he had, he just couldn't stop.
• 42:50
  Speaker 1: Yep.
• 42:50
Speaker 2: All of a sudden, you know, he misses a few
• 42:51
Speaker 2: weeks last year. There was this.
• 42:53
Speaker 1: Missed time in the playoffs with the knee injury that
• 42:55
Speaker 1: some say this is that that's what's lingering now. And
• 42:57
Speaker 1: that like, you know, it's bothering him, but you know,
• 43:00
Speaker 1: it's not enough for him to stop. And then, you know,
• 43:02
Speaker 1: he starts really going for it. And some of those
• 43:04
Speaker 1: chips start moving around in there and he feels some
• 43:06
Speaker 1: discomfort and look at it and say, yo, let's go
• 43:09
Speaker 1: ahead and take care of this right now. We get
• 43:10
Speaker 1: you back around Christmas. And then, you know, we get
• 43:13
Speaker 1: you for the stretch run, which, is the smart long-term,
• 43:16
Speaker 1: you know, obviously playing for them, but it sucks for
• 43:19
Speaker 1: basketball fans. It sucks for just for, and for that
• 43:22
Speaker 1: team that seems like they're just like they're okay. Them
• 43:25
Speaker 1: in Portland, probably my two favorite teams to watch so
• 43:27
  Speaker 1: far this season.
• 43:28
Speaker 2: Yeah. They're the wolves are, I mean, we've talked about
• 43:30
Speaker 2: on the show a couple of times about how the
• 43:32
Speaker 2: wolves kind of are, you know, you know, it's kind
• 43:34
Speaker 2: of funny with that Lamello. It's still a really talented
• 43:36
Speaker 2: roster over there. And they got to make on the cheap,
• 43:39
Speaker 2: you know, is a, what a six band basically. Yeah.
• 43:42
  Speaker 2: Like that's a solid rotation. That's a solid lineup. But,
• 43:46
Speaker 2: you know, the advantage it does give them is it
• 43:47
Speaker 2: gives Lomelo a lot of time to integrate.
• 43:50
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 43:51
Speaker 2: He can be the guy for a bit and, you know,
• 43:54
Speaker 2: that could really help them going forward. So when Ant
• 43:57
Speaker 2: gets back, that team could go on a run and definitely.
• 44:04
Speaker 1: I understand the whole like, yeah, somebody's out. And so
• 44:06
Speaker 1: therefore somebody else to step up and that's good for
• 44:08
Speaker 1: the team. I don't believe it's good for the team
• 44:09
Speaker 1: in this situation. I think I think I just because
• 44:12
Speaker 1: also like I think that LaMelo is the type of
• 44:14
Speaker 1: player that, you know, he's really been in his distributing bag,
• 44:17
Speaker 1: which obviously is something that he's so good at. But
• 44:19
Speaker 1: now you're forcing him to take some more shots. And
• 44:22
Speaker 1: I think that's when you don't get the best out
• 44:24
Speaker 1: of LaMelo is when you're asking him to be. more
• 44:27
Speaker 1: of a ball-dominant volume scorer. And then, even if that
• 44:32
Speaker 1: does go well, then you have to reintegrate Ant into it.
• 44:34
Speaker 1: And Ant is, if you're not focusing your offense on him,
• 44:39
Speaker 1: then you're not maximizing what he is. So I just
• 44:41
Speaker 1: think it's all bad for them. And then Paolo, again,
• 44:45
Speaker 1: he's starting to be one of these guys that's always
• 44:46
Speaker 1: hurt Kawhi. I mean, the only thing that was slightly
• 44:51
Speaker 1: surprising was that it took this long with Kawhi. And yeah, Durin, again,
• 44:57
Speaker 1: Probably not working out that hard this summer. And, yeah, man,
• 45:00
Speaker 1: you know, these guys, I don't know, they got to
• 45:02
Speaker 1: start doing something to prepare their bodies a little bit more.
• 45:05
Speaker 1: And I think that they need to play more. They
• 45:07
Speaker 1: need to play more. They're trying to take time off,
• 45:10
Speaker 1: and they need to callous their body and get their
• 45:13
Speaker 1: body ready so that when the regular season starts and
• 45:16
Speaker 1: everybody starts going 110 miles an hour, their bodies can
• 45:19
Speaker 1: take it. It's really hard to go from, like, I mean, like,
• 45:24
Speaker 1: everybody's played basketball before. in a situation where, you know,
• 45:27
Speaker 1: like when you're playing in the park, that's one thing.
• 45:31
Speaker 1: If you play in a men's league, that's one thing.
• 45:35
Speaker 1: If you played in high school or college, the intensity
• 45:39
Speaker 1: of being in those games and the way that everybody
• 45:41
Speaker 1: is going all the fucking way out, that's a whole
• 45:43
Speaker 1: different thing. Can you imagine what the NBA is like?
• 45:49
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 45:49
Speaker 1: And, you know, honestly, as a Knicks fan, as we've seen,
• 45:53
Speaker 1: is that, you know, there's no better example of a
• 45:56
Speaker 1: team that the wear and tear of playing throughout the
• 46:01
Speaker 1: season and getting a coach who was willing to ramp
• 46:04
Speaker 1: guys up a little bit more. It's a thing in
• 46:06
Speaker 1: the playoffs. Everybody was playing huge, big, big, big minutes.
• 46:09
Speaker 1: All the stars are playing big minutes again, but they're
• 46:11
Speaker 1: ramping these guys up a little bit slower. They're not
• 46:14
Speaker 1: having them play as heavy minutes. And we saw the
• 46:16
Speaker 1: difference when it came to the Knicks. So, you know, you, you,
• 46:21
Speaker 1: I think that some of that needs to be applied
• 46:23
Speaker 1: to how they do things in the summer. And I
• 46:26
Speaker 1: think some of that is about just raising the overall
• 46:28
Speaker 1: baseline by who and what they're doing in the summertime
• 46:34
Speaker 1: in training camp and in the preseason. I mean, once
• 46:36
Speaker 1: training camp comes, I feel like very soon into training camp,
• 46:40
Speaker 1: you got to get these guys really scrimmaging, really scrimmaging.
• 46:43
Speaker 1: And in the playoffs, I mean, I'm sorry, in the preseason,
• 46:46
Speaker 1: I got all my starters playing basketball. 20, you know,
• 46:50
Speaker 1: maybe 15 minutes the first game, then we're getting up
• 46:51
  Speaker 1: in the 20, we're getting in the 30, and we're
• 46:53
Speaker 1: getting in the low 30s by the end of it
• 46:56
Speaker 1: for maybe the last two. Like I said, when the
• 46:59
Speaker 1: lights come on, man, it's time to go. But yeah, man,
• 47:05
Speaker 1: what else we got going on, man?
• 47:07
Speaker 2: Gotta talk about this rookie class.
• 47:09
Speaker 1: Gotta talk about the rookie class. Hold on, hold on.
• 47:12
Speaker 2: Brewers. Brewers closing out.
• 47:15
Speaker 1: Brewers champions. Hey, Mets fans. Silver lining, man. This is
• 47:20
Speaker 1: David Stern's built organization. So we only got, you know,
• 47:24
Speaker 1: another few years. And we can be a perennial playoff
• 47:28
Speaker 1: team and maybe win a World Series.
• 47:31
  Speaker 2: All right? Okay.
• 47:33
Speaker 1: We try to stay optimistic over here. Oh, what's goody?
• 47:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, no. The Brewers, they closed out. I got to
• 47:40
Speaker 2: shout out my friend Brianna, though. Last night, we were
• 47:43
Speaker 2: at a bar in Portland. Big Brewers fan. The second
• 47:46
Speaker 2: that ball went over the first baseman's head for the walk-off,
• 47:49
Speaker 2: She booked a flight to Tampa, got tickets to the game.
• 47:54
Speaker 2: She booked a flight to Tampa for her. She booked
• 47:56
Speaker 2: a flight to Tampa for her pops. Got game tickets.
• 47:59
  Speaker 2: She's on a plane at 7 o'clock this morning. She's
• 48:02
Speaker 2: right now celebrating in Tampa. I'm hoping she's having a
• 48:05
Speaker 2: few over at Ferb's across the street from the Trop
• 48:08
  Speaker 2: enjoying herself.
• 48:09
  Speaker 1: That's lit, yo.
• 48:10
Speaker 2: That's lit. Yeah, I would say.
• 48:12
Speaker 1: I love stories like that.
• 48:13
Speaker 2: Dude, that was literally one of the coolest things I've
• 48:14
  Speaker 2: ever seen.
• 48:15
Speaker 1: I love stories like that.
• 48:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's funny. Two months before I
• 48:18
Speaker 2: met you– actually, a month before I met you, like
• 48:20
Speaker 2: a couple days before I started at Zenreach, I was
• 48:22
Speaker 2: actually in Texas, and UNC was in the final four.
• 48:25
Speaker 2: And I'm sitting at my buddy's place in Dallas, and
• 48:27
Speaker 2: I'm like, you know, screw it. I want to go. Like,
• 48:30
Speaker 2: first time. So I booked a morning flight. I booked
• 48:33
Speaker 2: an afternoon flight back to Phoenix the next day or
• 48:37
Speaker 2: changed some stuff around. Also, the next thing I know,
• 48:39
Speaker 2: I'm in Houston. I got tickets to both games. And
• 48:42
Speaker 2: I was at the national semifinals watching the Carolina Tar Heels.
• 48:46
Speaker 2: You know, like Syracuse Orange. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. But
• 48:51
Speaker 2: it was sick. Everybody knew that, you know?
• 48:54
  Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, listen, I'm a, I'm a, obviously I'm a
• 48:59
Speaker 1: Syracuse guy, but I am by proxy a Villanova guy now.
• 49:03
Speaker 1: And we know, but we know if we want to
• 49:06
Speaker 1: talk about Final Fours and UNC and Villanova. But that,
• 49:09
Speaker 1: it's all, this reminds me of a story. That happened
• 49:12
Speaker 1: to me back when you guys were probably, you know,
• 49:14
Speaker 1: back when you were probably, I don't know, in high
• 49:16
Speaker 1: school at this point in 2006 when the Mets. went
• 49:20
Speaker 1: to the NLCS and they lost ultimately in Game 7
• 49:25
Speaker 1: on that dirty Wainwright hook that Carlos Beltran looked at,
• 49:30
Speaker 1: also the Andy Chavez catch game. I was at Game
• 49:33
Speaker 1: 6 on my way out. I called my homeboy. The
• 49:36
Speaker 1: site back then was Razorgator.com. I called him on my
• 49:40
Speaker 1: flip phone and was like, yo, I need you to
• 49:43
Speaker 1: go online right now. So it's 2006. So this is October.
• 49:49
  Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm 22 years old. So I was like,
• 49:51
Speaker 1: I need you to go online right now and look
• 49:53
Speaker 1: up the tickets for the next game. I got my
• 49:54
Speaker 1: credit card in my hand. I'm going to read the
• 49:57
Speaker 1: numbers to you. And give me two tickets, me and
• 50:01
Speaker 1: my homeboy Danny, who I took to the game and
• 50:02
Speaker 1: took him to that game too. He's like, dude, you
• 50:04
Speaker 1: can't do this again. You cannot do this. I was like, motherfucker,
• 50:06
Speaker 1: we going. We out here. We going. And at that point,
• 50:12
Speaker 1: like I said, I'm 22 years old. These tickets, these
• 50:15
Speaker 1: four tickets in these two consecutive days, New York City,
• 50:18
Speaker 1: Mets and the NLCS, it was probably 85% of my
• 50:22
Speaker 1: net worth. And I was like, you know, I got
• 50:24
Speaker 1: another paycheck coming in two weeks. We'll figure that shit out. But, yeah, man,
• 50:28
Speaker 1: that's a cool story about your homegirl, man, and I'm
• 50:30
Speaker 1: glad she got to do it. And, I mean, the
• 50:32
Speaker 1: payoff is unbelievable. You know, now she got to watch
• 50:35
Speaker 1: them win the World Series, you know, with her pops.
• 50:39
  Speaker 1: I mean, that's just a– come on, man. I know–
• 50:42
  Speaker 1: I didn't get to be there. I didn't get to
• 50:44
  Speaker 1: be there.
• 50:44
Speaker 2: And you did just get to live it, which is
• 50:47
  Speaker 2: really sick.
• 50:47
Speaker 1: I did just get to live it. I did just
• 50:48
Speaker 1: get to live it, no doubt, and did the parade
• 50:50
Speaker 1: with them and everything like that. It was fantastic. Shout
• 50:52
Speaker 1: to her. But, yeah, these NBA rookies, man.
• 50:55
Speaker 2: Dude. I mean, I know you mentioned earlier, introing, this
• 50:59
Speaker 2: class was the most hyped class in years.
• 51:02
Speaker 1: And I watched Caleb Wilson tonight. Caleb Wilson tonight, and
• 51:05
Speaker 1: he's the one that, when I went from the, obviously
• 51:09
Speaker 1: I know, you know, where did Caleb Wilson go? UCLA, right?
• 51:13
  Speaker 2: No, UNC.
• 51:14
  Speaker 1: UNC, UNC.
• 51:15
  Speaker 2: I was right.
• 51:15
  Speaker 1: I was right. I second-guessed myself. I know that you
• 51:19
Speaker 1: know about him. Go ahead.
• 51:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, he was one of my favorite players coming out, obviously,
• 51:23
Speaker 2: you know, from UNC Bias a little bit. But he
• 51:25
Speaker 2: was the real deal. And honestly, it didn't really have
• 51:28
Speaker 2: much to do with his play more so than what
• 51:30
Speaker 2: I saw him do from the sidelines. Broke his hand, like,
• 51:33
Speaker 2: in March. This dude, I mean, first off, only freshman, like,
• 51:38
Speaker 2: ever to be able to lead the team on the
• 51:39
Speaker 2: court for the warm-up. So that's a pretty big deal
• 51:43
Speaker 2: at that school to begin with. But when he broke
• 51:46
Speaker 2: his hand or thumb in March in this tournament, dude
• 51:50
Speaker 2: was– basically an assistant coach. He was sitting there standing up,
• 51:54
Speaker 2: calling out the defense, rooting the guys on, just being
• 51:57
Speaker 2: that dude. And I was like, yeah, this dude's special.
• 52:00
Speaker 2: I didn't know what the offense would come around, though.
• 52:02
Speaker 2: I knew the defense would be there. I didn't think
• 52:04
Speaker 2: the offense would come around for him so quick. And, yeah,
• 52:08
  Speaker 2: it's nice.
• 52:09
Speaker 1: Well, so for me, so I already, obviously I already
• 52:14
Speaker 1: knew he was nice. I saw him play a little bit,
• 52:15
Speaker 1: and then I saw what a big prospect he was.
• 52:18
Speaker 1: I don't follow college basketball like I once did, but I,
• 52:20
Speaker 1: you know, I keep an eye. And then Summer League. No.
• 52:25
  Speaker 2: OK.
• 52:25
Speaker 1: Before Summer League, he the viral thing with him where
• 52:29
Speaker 1: he's watching Brunson make the pump fake the bump. It's
• 52:31
Speaker 1: a shot. And he's doing like he's like the guest
• 52:33
Speaker 1: commentator or whatever. He's like, oh, Taylor Brunson is nice.
• 52:37
Speaker 1: So I already fuck with you a little bit right
• 52:38
Speaker 1: there because you show respect to my cap.
• 52:40
  Speaker 2: And then.
• 52:42
Speaker 1: You know, I see him in summer league and the
• 52:44
Speaker 1: first game he played in summer league, this motherfucker was
• 52:46
Speaker 1: like holding up from three, like form look pure and
• 52:49
Speaker 1: everything like that. And I'm like, yo, if that tall,
• 52:52
Speaker 1: long motherfucker like that is shooting like that and he's
• 52:56
Speaker 1: got bounce and can handle a little bit too, yo,
• 52:58
Speaker 1: he's a problem. And then he came out in summer
• 53:01
Speaker 1: league and he said some shit about how like, man,
• 53:02
Speaker 1: I'm playing every game. I'm trying to play. I play basketball.
• 53:05
Speaker 1: That's what I do. When you see a lot of
• 53:07
Speaker 1: these really good rookies or even some, not even the
• 53:09
Speaker 1: good ones, They come out, they play a game or two,
• 53:10
Speaker 1: they look at it, and they sit him down. Again,
• 53:12
Speaker 1: that bullshit that we were just talking about before. So
• 53:15
Speaker 1: I was already like, yo, okay, he's one of them ones.
• 53:18
Speaker 1: He's going to be fucking nice. And, you know, he's
• 53:20
Speaker 1: shown to be that so far. I know you hype
• 53:23
  Speaker 1: about Yaxel.
• 53:25
Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah. I wanted to save him for a
• 53:28
Speaker 2: little bit because I wanted to talk about A.J. DeBasa's
• 53:30
  Speaker 2: debut tonight.
• 53:30
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 53:31
Speaker 2: Yeah. Number one pick in the draft, missed the first
• 53:33
Speaker 2: couple games with an ankle injury. Made his debut tonight,
• 53:36
  Speaker 2: 19 points on 8 of 12s.
• 53:39
Speaker 1: 8-12. If that team stays healthy, Washington, because I don't
• 53:42
Speaker 1: even like Trey Young or his game, but that team
• 53:46
Speaker 1: is set up for him, okay, where he's just got
• 53:49
Speaker 1: the ball in his hands all the time. He's the
• 53:51
Speaker 1: last player and the first player in decades to lead
• 53:54
Speaker 1: the NCAAs in both points and assists, and he's been
• 53:57
Speaker 1: that guy as he's been in the NBA. Is he
• 53:59
Speaker 1: an unserious basketball player sometime?
• 54:01
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 54:01
Speaker 1: Is he the absolute traffic cone on defense?
• 54:03
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 54:04
Speaker 1: Does he take, I mean, like, again, it's him and LaMelo,
• 54:07
Speaker 1: both of those guys, sometimes This one-legged three, it's good
• 54:11
Speaker 1: when you can hit those sometimes. There's just times where
• 54:13
Speaker 1: you're watching the game, and a lot of times I'm
• 54:15
Speaker 1: watching it as the opponent, so I'm cool with it.
• 54:17
Speaker 1: But if I was the fan of that team, I'd
• 54:19
Speaker 1: be like, we don't fucking need that right now. What
• 54:22
Speaker 1: are you doing? But that team, if AD stays healthy,
• 54:29
Speaker 1: they got good players. Ancillary piece two outside of that.
• 54:33
Speaker 1: And Debonza, like when you say 12-15, that's exactly what
• 54:37
Speaker 1: I expected with him in that. Because, you know, Trae
• 54:40
Speaker 1: Young stretched out the defense so much. AD is such
• 54:44
Speaker 1: a threat anywhere on the court. So dynamic where he's
• 54:48
Speaker 1: probably just like in the dunker spot, baseline, catching shit.
• 54:51
  Speaker 2: Bang!
• 54:51
Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, doing shit like that.
• 54:53
Speaker 1: And if he can do that and then slowly continue to,
• 54:56
Speaker 1: you know, get a little, you know, fade away here,
• 54:59
Speaker 1: in or out there, you know, ba-ba-ba, and continue to
• 55:02
Speaker 1: expand that game, it's a perfect spot for him.
• 55:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. And, yeah, DiPazzo, we took three threes, too,
• 55:07
Speaker 2: on that. So, yeah, very, very nice debut for the kid.
• 55:12
Speaker 2: And I just remember watching him at the tournament last year.
• 55:15
Speaker 2: BYU played here in Portland last year. He threw down
• 55:18
Speaker 2: this dunk, man. That still just lives around three in
• 55:21
Speaker 2: my head. Like, dunker spot, baseline, like, reverse dunk. It
• 55:28
Speaker 2: was gross. Like, and again, he's just one of those
• 55:32
Speaker 2: guys who just wants to play. You know, when it
• 55:36
Speaker 2: came down to the choice between him or Darren Peterson,
• 55:38
Speaker 2: to me it was pretty obvious. Especially with all the
• 55:41
Speaker 2: crap that went on with Peterson last year, not playing
• 55:44
Speaker 2: and all that. I know Chad had a great time
• 55:47
Speaker 2: with that. because, you know, Pat being a Cameron guy. But, yeah, DeBasa,
• 55:52
Speaker 2: you know, really, really solid debut for him, and definitely
• 55:54
Speaker 2: looking forward to seeing more of him as well. Yeah. Yeah.
• 55:58
Speaker 1: Boozer. Boozer. Boozer. Coming in, I just, I always said,
• 56:02
Speaker 1: I was like, he's going to be, he's just so
• 56:03
Speaker 1: polished that you could just tell he's a plug and play. Like,
• 56:06
Speaker 1: I was so happy when Indiana didn't get a pick,
• 56:10
Speaker 1: when they somehow didn't get a pick, because I was just,
• 56:13
Speaker 1: I just, in my head, I just had it like,
• 56:15
Speaker 1: They're going to get this fucking guy, Cam Boozer. He's
• 56:16
Speaker 1: going to come in and immediately be exactly what they need.
• 56:19
Speaker 1: But they didn't get him. I'm so happy about that.
• 56:21
  Speaker 1: He's averaging 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, you know,
• 56:24
  Speaker 1: doing his thing.
• 56:24
Speaker 2: A double-double in the last three games.
• 56:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And, you know, for a team that's 4-0,
• 56:29
Speaker 1: a very, very surprising Memphis team thus far. Cam Boozer
• 56:33
  Speaker 1: is the man.
• 56:34
Speaker 2: Ty Jerome just coming out of nowhere all of a
• 56:36
Speaker 2: sudden just being a baller. Yo, what the fuck?
• 56:38
Speaker 1: Ty Jerome, this motherfucker out here trying to drop 40
• 56:41
  Speaker 1: and shit.
• 56:41
Speaker 2: Like, yo. Dude, I mean, hey, he was a great
• 56:45
Speaker 2: piece on that Virginia title team.
• 56:47
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 56:48
Speaker 2: I thought he always could be a solid role guy.
• 56:51
Speaker 2: I did not think he'd turn into a number.
• 56:52
Speaker 1: One point guard. No, and he's– okay, let's– you know.
• 56:55
Speaker 2: Number one point guard, not a number one player.
• 56:58
Speaker 1: Well, let's– yeah, well, let's see if he even just–
• 57:00
Speaker 1: even if he continues to be that. But anyway, Acuff, yo,
• 57:05
Speaker 1: I will never stop saying it. The new– as you
• 57:08
Speaker 1: start studying New Jersey Nets, the Brooklyn Nets made such
• 57:10
Speaker 1: a huge mistake not taking it. You've got to take Acuff.
• 57:13
Speaker 1: You've got to take him. He's a New York-type player, man.
• 57:17
Speaker 1: You see it right across town. You see a fucking
• 57:20
Speaker 1: guard who is ball-dominant and can get a shot. How
• 57:23
Speaker 1: much we love this shit. And you pass on him, man.
• 57:25
Speaker 1: Come on, man. They needed a point guard. I couldn't
• 57:30
  Speaker 1: believe it.
• 57:30
Speaker 2: Speaking of Jalen Brunson. They have a little too much
• 57:33
Speaker 2: faith in Damon, in my opinion.
• 57:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, me too. But, yo, Smooth Will says, Can
• 57:38
Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson ever look happy? It's okay to get excited
• 57:40
Speaker 1: and show emotion. It's okay to have fun and enjoy
• 57:43
Speaker 1: the ride. Our captain is just so emotionless. All right, well,
• 57:46
Speaker 1: I always say comment. I promise to reply. I do
• 57:48
Speaker 1: not promise to be nice. This comment is a terrible
• 57:51
Speaker 1: comment because a couple things. Okay, let's bring it back up.
• 57:54
Speaker 1: First and foremost, can he ever look happy? It's okay
• 57:58
Speaker 1: to get excited. So I don't know if you know this,
• 58:03
Speaker 1: but just tonight in today's game, at one point when
• 58:06
Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson shook up Norman Powell and then banged a three,
• 58:09
Speaker 1: he pointed back like this. and looked at Derrick Rose
• 58:13
Speaker 1: on the sideline. Jalen Brunson spent his high school years
• 58:16
Speaker 1: in Illinois, has a relationship with, what's his name, with
• 58:20
Speaker 1: Derrick Rose, obviously. And, you know, look back at him,
• 58:24
Speaker 1: it's him and his son or whatever, what a big
• 58:26
Speaker 1: smile on his face. So he can smile and he
• 58:28
Speaker 1: can have a good time. And you often see Jalen Brunson,
• 58:31
Speaker 1: you know, at certain points in the game, especially if
• 58:32
Speaker 1: he's having somewhat of a frustrating stretch and then he
• 58:35
Speaker 1: kind of breaks through, he gets an and when he
• 58:37
Speaker 1: puts it up, he'll, and then look over at the crowd.
• 58:41
Speaker 1: He also does a celly every time that he makes
• 58:46
Speaker 1: a three, pretty much. So I think he shows a
• 58:50
Speaker 1: good amount of positive emotion, but he is very stoic
• 58:55
Speaker 1: quite often, and I think that is one of his
• 58:58
Speaker 1: best qualities. It's one of the things that I love
• 59:02
Speaker 1: as a Knicks fan. It's one of the things that
• 59:03
Speaker 1: I love from my leader, from my captain, and he's
• 59:06
Speaker 1: the king in New York I don't care if he
• 59:08
Speaker 1: ever smiles again as long as he continues to do
• 59:09
Speaker 1: that so uh smooth will I'm sorry but uh we're
• 59:12
Speaker 1: gonna have to disagree with you there we're gonna have
• 59:15
Speaker 1: to disagree um but yeah man let's get back to
• 59:17
Speaker 1: the rookies real quick yo um Acuff can't believe they
• 59:20
Speaker 1: passed on him it's great.
• 59:22
Speaker 2: For you though it's great for you though now you
• 59:24
Speaker 2: don't have to deal with them in your conference like
• 59:26
  Speaker 2: ever so.
• 59:27
Speaker 1: That's true And not only did they not get him,
• 59:30
Speaker 1: but he gets sent out to that fucking dumpster fire Sacramento.
• 59:33
Speaker 1: And I'm just like, fuck, man, because I like him.
• 59:35
Speaker 1: I like his game. I didn't want that to be
• 59:36
Speaker 1: the case. What's the kid from Brooklyn? What's he averaging?
• 59:43
Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I don't even remember that. I was going
• 59:46
Speaker 2: to go on to Yaks right now.
• 59:49
Speaker 1: Okay, go ahead, go. Because he's bigger than you expect
• 59:53
Speaker 1: him to be. And he, like Steph said, he's got
• 59:57
Speaker 1: a calmness to him, and he's got pretty much every shot.
• 1:00:01
Speaker 1: He hasn't really started connecting from deep yet, but that's
• 1:00:04
Speaker 1: going to come because he's confident, and you can tell
• 1:00:06
Speaker 1: he's got a good stroke. Paul.
• 1:00:07
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I was going to say, before we continue
• 1:00:11
Speaker 2: with the acts so far, Mikel Brown Jr., he's averaging 10.3 points, 3.3 boards, 4.3 assists. Yeah.
• 1:00:16
Speaker 2: Darius Acuff is averaging 21.5 points and 5 assists a game. Yeah,
• 1:00:24
Speaker 2: not bad. But with Yax, though, he's had four straight
• 1:00:29
Speaker 2: really good games, three straight of 25 and 8. 25 points,
• 1:00:33
Speaker 2: 8 boards. Just became the first Warrior rookie to score
• 1:00:37
Speaker 2: 100 points in his first five games since Will Chamberlain. Yo, man.
• 1:00:43
Speaker 2: I mean, you want to talk about an eventful week.
• 1:00:46
Speaker 2: He has had an eventful first week of the week.
• 1:00:50
Speaker 1: He lost respect for Luka. I love that shit. I
• 1:00:52
Speaker 1: love that shit. I love that he was willing to
• 1:00:54
Speaker 1: go at him like that, but I will tell you this.
• 1:00:56
Speaker 1: The next time y'all play the Lakers. That motherfucker Luke. Luke,
• 1:01:02
Speaker 1: he might have 70. You know he's coming for fucking blood, yo.
• 1:01:09
Speaker 2: Do I have some good news for you? The next
• 1:01:11
Speaker 2: time we air, the Warriors will play the Lakers again.
• 1:01:15
Speaker 2: They play them on Friday, too.
• 1:01:16
Speaker 1: Oh, okay, so for the NBA Cup.
• 1:01:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, the first NBA Cup. Nice, nice. Dang.
• 1:01:25
Speaker 1: Yeah. You better tie your shoes tight that night, motherfucker. Hey, listen,
• 1:01:32
  Speaker 1: I'm with it. I think it's a good chance that,
• 1:01:34
Speaker 1: you know, Draymond might try to fucking elbow Luka in
• 1:01:36
Speaker 1: the face at some point, some slick shit. And I'm
• 1:01:39
Speaker 1: with it, man. You know, I love when these motherfuckers
• 1:01:42
Speaker 1: don't like each other. I love that shit, man. This
• 1:01:44
Speaker 1: is what it's supposed to be. This is what it's
• 1:01:46
Speaker 1: supposed to be. You know, I love that shit. And
• 1:01:49
Speaker 1: I love to see this guy. Yax will come into
• 1:01:52
Speaker 1: the league and not give it a fuck and backing
• 1:01:54
Speaker 1: it up with his play. He's not just some, you know,
• 1:01:56
Speaker 1: motherfuckers just out here talking crazy. He's out here really
• 1:01:59
Speaker 1: getting it in. So shout to him. Go ahead.
• 1:02:03
Speaker 2: The other night too. I don't know if you saw
• 1:02:05
Speaker 2: the post game on NBC Monday night after the Warriors
• 1:02:08
Speaker 2: beat the Nuggets and he had that monster game. You know,
• 1:02:11
  Speaker 2: they had him.
• 1:02:12
Speaker 1: I watched a lot of that game.
• 1:02:13
Speaker 2: Yeah. Like PC, T-Mac, Mello. He was on with them,
• 1:02:18
Speaker 2: you know, just the locker room camera. And he was,
• 1:02:20
Speaker 2: he's like, asking them questions. He's like, yeah, I have
• 1:02:25
Speaker 2: a ton of questions for you. And this guy is just,
• 1:02:27
Speaker 2: you know, as personable as he is, humble enough to ask,
• 1:02:31
Speaker 2: you know, Hall of Famers questions. Although, you know, they
• 1:02:34
Speaker 2: could have done a better job. He's like, you have
• 1:02:37
Speaker 2: two Hall of Famers in your room. You can ask
• 1:02:38
Speaker 2: them and they'll provide you like a fountain of knowledge. But,
• 1:02:41
Speaker 2: you know, I thought it was really cool of him
• 1:02:43
Speaker 2: to be doing stuff like that. So I really do
• 1:02:45
Speaker 2: like what I've seen from him so far. Yeah, man.
• 1:02:48
Speaker 1: Shout out to the Warriors. That's a great pick. That's
• 1:02:51
Speaker 1: exactly what they, he's exactly what they needed as far
• 1:02:56
Speaker 1: as basketball player personality. I mean, there's no, if there's
• 1:03:00
Speaker 1: no coincidence that when he has that massive game, Curry
• 1:03:04
Speaker 1: goes like eight for eight with, you know, perfect shooting
• 1:03:06
Speaker 1: game and fucking, you know, super efficient 20 something like Joe,
• 1:03:10
Speaker 1: no coincidence. That's exactly what he needed. And if, you know, if,
• 1:03:14
Speaker 1: if what, what's the Jimmy Butler timeline?
• 1:03:17
Speaker 2: Um, they said, well, I mean, he tours ACL mid
• 1:03:20
Speaker 2: January of last year. They're saying he could come back sooner.
• 1:03:23
Speaker 2: I don't really buy that, but with each win, they
• 1:03:26
Speaker 2: buy them a little more time. So there's a lot
• 1:03:29
Speaker 2: of uncertain. There's so much uncertainty with this team right
• 1:03:31
Speaker 2: now between Butler and Porzingis. It's, uh, it's, it's kind
• 1:03:36
Speaker 2: of wacky and yeah, it definitely muddies things up at
• 1:03:39
Speaker 2: the center position for us too, which is, um, I
• 1:03:42
Speaker 2: don't know if you saw the game against the Lakers
• 1:03:43
Speaker 2: last Wednesday after we got off the air, but, Yeah,
• 1:03:46
Speaker 2: Walker Kessler dunked on us 10 times.
• 1:03:48
Speaker 1: He was 12 for 12, right?
• 1:03:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, with 10 dunks. And, yeah, they had zero rip
• 1:03:53
Speaker 2: protection over there. But Yaxel's big enough where he can
• 1:03:57
Speaker 2: maybe hold some of that spot down.
• 1:03:58
  Speaker 1: Some of it.
• 1:03:59
Speaker 2: And also full-cloth Draymond if needed to. Draymond might not
• 1:04:04
Speaker 2: be able to bully him very much. Yeah.
• 1:04:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, they need help with the center position. I mean,
• 1:04:10
Speaker 1: all that money that they have tied into Porzingis, if
• 1:04:14
Speaker 1: they get an exception and then fucking do something and
• 1:04:18
Speaker 1: make something happen at the deadline, I think that'll go
• 1:04:20
Speaker 1: a long way for them. And as you said, every
• 1:04:22
Speaker 1: win makes you feel like, okay, they get Jimmy Butler back,
• 1:04:24
Speaker 1: they do this, they do that, and they could be
• 1:04:26
Speaker 1: a team that could make something happen. Like I said,
• 1:04:28
Speaker 1: I think Portland is another team that's in the mix
• 1:04:30
Speaker 1: out there out West. The West is going to be
• 1:04:32
Speaker 1: tough as always. Denver looking a little bit shaky. A
• 1:04:35
Speaker 1: lot of people, I saw somebody bring this up the
• 1:04:37
Speaker 1: other day. Everybody always talks about how bad of a
• 1:04:41
Speaker 1: defender Luke is. People used to talk about how Cat
• 1:04:43
Speaker 1: was a bad defender and he was soft. Let's talk
• 1:04:46
Speaker 1: about Joker and his defense. Let's make sure that gets
• 1:04:49
Speaker 1: brought up in these sorts of types of conversations. We
• 1:04:52
Speaker 1: know how great Joker is. Multiple MVPs, got himself a chip,
• 1:04:57
Speaker 1: one of the best players in the league, one of
• 1:04:58
Speaker 1: the greatest centers of all time, all those things. Defensively,
• 1:05:02
Speaker 1: He's not good, and it's very hard to ignore that
• 1:05:04
Speaker 1: side of the ball, especially for a center. When your center,
• 1:05:08
Speaker 1: the anchor of your defense, is subpar, it's very hard
• 1:05:13
Speaker 1: to overcome. Trust me, I know. I watched the Knicks
• 1:05:15
Speaker 1: battle through it when Cat was inexplicably not playing up
• 1:05:19
Speaker 1: to his potential, and I've seen the Knicks team and
• 1:05:21
Speaker 1: what they've become since he has started to play up
• 1:05:23
Speaker 1: to his potential. But, yeah, man, that's all we got, man.
• 1:05:26
Speaker 1: It's been a good week. It's been a good show. Again, like,
• 1:05:29
Speaker 1: hit that subscribe. Appreciate all the love. It's your boy NIC. Peace.
