- 1:18to go ahead and return once again to nineteen fifty six, uh for today's
- 1:23episode of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. It's one we skipped over, but now
- 1:29we're going to go ahead and take a listen. The original Air at eight
- 1:33is December the twenty third of nineteen fifty six, and the title is The
- 1:38Missing Mouse Matter from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dollar. Hi,
- 1:48Johnny, who that George Reed? Well, Merry Christmas? George? Is
- 1:52it a semetic? You have an air of Judiah gillis eccentric on to about
- 1:57half of Rhode Island. That's the boy. A couple of weeks ago,
- 2:00a special policy on an item he wanted insured, and it's up and disappeared.
- 2:02Huh oh just a while. Guess what did he lose? I hope
- 2:08you're sitting down, Johnny. Yeah? Why because the insured item is a
- 2:13mouse? House mouse? What Bob Bailey in the Exciting Adventures of a Man
- 2:28with the Action Packed Expense Account America is fabulous freelance insurance investigators, truly Johnny
- 2:35Dollar. Expense account submitted by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar to Floyd's of England,
- 2:52the American Branch Office, four forty three North fifteenth Street, Hartford, Connecticut.
- 2:55The following is an account of expenses incurred during my investigation of the Missing
- 3:00mouse matter. Expense account out of one eighty five cents taxi from my apartment
- 3:08at George Reid's office. He was on his feet waiting for me. His
- 3:13Ivy League suit looked as though it had been slipt in and he needed the
- 3:15shade close the door, Johnny, Yeah, sure, Johnny, got a
- 3:21level with you. This thing has me going, well, it serves you,
- 3:23right. Anybody who'd insure a mouse deserves what he gets. Yeah,
- 3:27but it isn't an ordinary mouse, Johnny, No, not. According to
- 3:30mister Gillis's original application, particular item to be insured one unusually talented grayish brown
- 3:38mouse. Unusually talented like how, I don't know why. I tried to
- 3:44find out, but Gillis wouldn't tell me, and still you issued the policy.
- 3:47You know, our company, Johnny, we have a reputation for insuring
- 3:51almost anything. But we have to draw the line occasionally, and we would
- 3:53have here except for one thing. What's that? And believe me, it
- 3:55better be good. It is. Gillis carries all of his insurance with us.
- 4:00Yeah, but even just one of his several policies is a straight life
- 4:03for three hundred and fifty thousand. Wow, Wait, King scize premiums exactly
- 4:09so when he called asking us to insure this fellow's mouse for a few weeks,
- 4:13Wait a minute, Gillis doesn't own it? No, well, who
- 4:15does? It belongs to a friend of his, a man named Glazer.
- 4:17He's spending the holidays with Gillis. Gillis didn't want to be responsible if something
- 4:21happened to Glazier's mouse while he's there, so he as has to write the
- 4:26policy. How much did you ensure it? For? All? The company
- 4:29would allow five thousand? Oh, George, you think I'm going to get
- 4:32all worked up over allows he five grand laws? What kind of a commission
- 4:36can I possibly make? That? Look? Give me a chance to finish,
- 4:39all right, but only because it's Christmas, all right. Late last
- 4:43night I received a call from Gillis. He wanted to know whom we considered
- 4:46the best investigator in this part of the country. When I told him,
- 4:48he told me about the mouse and insisted I send you up to help look
- 4:51for it now. No, George, I'm sorry, but I'm going to
- 4:54pass. I've handled some screwy cases in my time. This is Please wait
- 4:58till I finish. I told Gillis you wouldn't be interested. That's when he
- 5:02started putting on the squeeze. Squeeze, how do you mean? He said?
- 5:04If I didn't get you, he'd cancel his policy. Oh, come
- 5:08on, you don't believe that I don't know what to believe. Gillis is
- 5:11a screwball of the first water. We've known that for a long time,
- 5:13and frankly I'd rather not take a chance. Well you've got to maybe not.
- 5:18I received an okay from upstairs on this one. You can write your
- 5:21own ticket. Well why didn't you say so on the first play? You
- 5:26didn't give me a chance. Look, there's a train for Providence at three
- 5:29point thirty. Here's Gillis's address. He wants you to stay with him.
- 5:31That'll cost more, Georgie. It figures Merry Christmas, Johnny, same to
- 5:35you, Santa Claus. Expense account item two eighty five cents campfare back to
- 5:46my apartment. I was intrigued by what Georgia had told me and by what
- 5:51his company was going to add to my bank account, so I didn't really
- 5:56mind changing my plans for the holidays. Expense account adem three eighteen dollars and
- 6:00ninety cents transportation including a round trip ticket Hardford of Providence and Cava to the
- 6:04Gillis residence. Palace would be a better word for it. It stood in
- 6:09the middle of a large wooded park, must have been half a dozen acres
- 6:12all of it surrounded by an old fashioned iron fence. I dismissed the cab
- 6:15and had started toward the front door when it opened, and standing against the
- 6:20light watching me, was a tall, beautiful girl. Steps. Why steps
- 6:27there, I see? Oh, thanks, we've been expecting him. It's
- 6:31a dollar. Hi wow, Hi, mister Glazer and father in the library.
- 6:38Would you like to meet him now or wait till after you're settled.
- 6:41I'm I'm afraid I had better see them right away. Miss killis Marian Johnny
- 6:46Well come along? You know for the first time. I'm glad I came
- 6:51home for the holidays, home from where New York. Here we are.
- 6:57You'll have to come visit me, Johnny. Maybe I'll do something drastic like
- 7:00losing a mouse to guarantee it. Mary, I told you to keep that
- 7:05door closed. Oh, mister dollars here father, Oh haven't come in?
- 7:11See you later, Johnny Well Dollar, glad you finally got here, isn't
- 7:17he? Thank you? Certain? This is my friend and associate, Bert
- 7:21Glazy. Hi am, mister Glazier, Bertie and his pals, mister Dollar
- 7:26beg burdon my dog act. You investigators are supposed to have good memories.
- 7:30I hoped you might have caught us at sometime or other Nora. Would you
- 7:33like to have drink? Miss Dollar? No, thanks, not supposed I
- 7:36got anything you want to drink? I got an egg now hot boded?
- 7:40Run? Well? Uh maybe later. Right now, I'd like to hear
- 7:42the details of your loss. You mean that insurance agents didn't give you all
- 7:46the information? He didn't know at all, mister Gillis. All he didn't
- 7:48know is that a so called talented mouse cause disappeared so cold. And he
- 7:55hasn't disappeared either, not at all. He's been kidnapped, that's what kidnapped,
- 7:58Yes, sir, and we know who and why, we know why,
- 8:01and at your job be getting back? Oh wait a minute, and
- 8:03I'm not going to pay one red cent for ransom, not one cent,
- 8:07not one okay, okay, But what makes you so sure the mouse was
- 8:13kidnapped? I'm afraid I can't tell you that without Bert's permission. Wow,
- 8:20it was the Glazer. Well, if we tell you, we must have
- 8:24your solemn promise you won't repeat it to anybody until Christmas Day. Well,
- 8:28I'm not sure I can do that. If you can't, we don't open
- 8:33our mouths right, well, okay till Christmas day? Good, good dollar.
- 8:41I suppose I told you Galliper was worth at least fifty thousand dollars the
- 8:45missing mouse, Oh, you'd be surprised if I said it was worth that
- 8:48much. Depends you claim he's talented? Does that have something to do with
- 8:54this evaluation you put on him something? It has everything to do with it,
- 8:58Yes, sir, Well what does Gulliver do that other mice can't?
- 9:05Nothing? But it's how he does it that counts. How it does.
- 9:09What sings? What can't you hear? The man who still can't you hear
- 9:13him? Galliver sings. He carries a tune, you know, with the
- 9:18clarity of a clarion, the fervor of a female opera star, and the
- 9:20tone of a tenor. That's how we planned a billin I am, I
- 9:26see you well, But he doesn't believe this On a wait, I didn't
- 9:33say, is no need? We can come by your face? Can't we
- 9:37burt? But a mouse? Mister s It is a scientific fact that mice
- 9:43sing. Mice sing. Well known magazines have published articles proving it. Unfortunately,
- 9:48most of them sing in a scale too high for human hearing. Ah,
- 9:52that not Gulliver. Gall that's right, he's a basso abasso by mousey
- 9:58standards, that is, I don't know no bird. He still doesn't believe
- 10:03us very well, Jediah, there is only one thing to do, only
- 10:07one thing to do. You follow us, Dollar, We'll erase the doubt
- 10:11in your mind forever. I took a good look at Birt Blazer and then
- 10:18reluctantly followed the two of them out of the library and down a long hall.
- 10:22At the moment, this thing had all the ear marks of a good
- 10:24old fashioned con game, or better still, a benefit on behalf of Bert
- 10:28Blazer, with Judiah Gillis and Floyd's of England as the sole cash contributors.
- 10:33We wondered for what seemed like blocks through the old mansion and finally reached a
- 10:37large playrom. On top of one of the bellya tables was a small brass
- 10:41cage. In it were two small grayish brown mice. Blazer opened the cage
- 10:46and let's not, mister Dollar, allow me to present Hecuba and esma Elda.
- 10:52Oh how do you do? I mean? I suppose they sing too?
- 10:56Oh these but not nearly as Gulliver just don't have the instrument, you
- 11:03instrument, the voice, the voice of the voice. Oh yeah, I
- 11:05see. But now where did you keep Gulliver in here? But the others?
- 11:11Bert didn't want to separate, that's right. I originally started to make
- 11:15the three of them into a singing, you know, trio like the Andrews
- 11:18sisters. But Gulliver advanced so rapidly I decided he should be a soloist.
- 11:22Oh sure you aren't afraid of mice, mister, No, No, that's
- 11:28fine, nice sense it if you are, you know, upset somes some
- 11:31if not? Right? Now move over room. That's it now upon your
- 11:35haunches. There we are. Now what would you like to hear, mister
- 11:41dollar? Oh? Anything at all? Oh? Bert? How about my
- 11:46favorite? There over the way? Good? Good, good? You got
- 11:52it? Am over the waves? That's it already? Then good, that'll
- 12:00be fine? Ready now one, two, three? Oh, that's it
- 12:05all beautiful beautiful. Yeah. Well, I won't say I was convinced,
- 12:18but I won't say I wasn't, but I will say those mice were singing
- 12:22something. We're giving him mighty good imitation of it. We returned to the
- 12:26library, and this time I sampled the eggnog liberally? Is that all right?
- 12:33Oh? Fine? Thanks? Well you know now why we believe Gulliver
- 12:37was kidnapped. Well, I'm not sure to exploit him. What else exactly?
- 12:43Do you have any idea? Who did it? Harry McQueen, that's
- 12:45who McQueen. Who is McQueen used to be my agent, theatrical agent.
- 12:48He's been snooping around here, little Jenny. We figured he's gotten wind of
- 12:52our mice. What do you mean by snooping around mister gill? Oh,
- 12:56you know he's been out here twice this week wanting to see me. Had
- 12:58to kick him out of here today morning. How they get in where my
- 13:01daughter answered the door? Yes, she didn't know McQueen from Adam, so
- 13:05when he asked for megured he belonged in here rehearsing the show with the rest
- 13:09of it. Rehearsing what show, mister gillis? What show? Was the
- 13:13show for the children's hospital. Jodiah puts one on for the sick kids every
- 13:16Christmas Eve. Of course, you know dollar variety act of Santa Claus.
- 13:20This year though we got a radio hook up. They go all over the
- 13:24state and Gulliver, well he was going to headline, And that's why I
- 13:30sent for you, Dollar. I figured you can get him back by tomorrow
- 13:33afternoon if anybody can. How long was McQueen in here before you notice it?
- 13:35Long enough to lift Gulliver? This was our dress rehearsal, Dollar.
- 13:39We'd asked some of the kids from around the neighborhood in the watch, so
- 13:41it was pretty crowded. Or were the mice during the rehearsal, Well,
- 13:46that's where I made my mistake. What do you mean we were keeping them
- 13:48a secret till the real show? Or were they in their cage over there
- 13:52on the mantel and we were using this part of the room for the stage,
- 13:56so McQueen could have just reached in and taken Gulliver without us seeing.
- 14:00Now, what makes you so sure, McQueen did it? We hold you
- 14:03so as who else is wanted? Who else? And it was right after
- 14:05I kicked him out of here that I discovered Gulliver, who was Missy.
- 14:07Once you do that, I called off the rehearsal and started searching party.
- 14:11McQueen big Gulliver and I put it in a telephone call in the Providence House
- 14:15where McQueen was takeing did you talk to him. Nope, they said he
- 14:20checked out. After questioning them for a while, I finally had a nightcab
- 14:24with your Diana. Then went to the phone in the hall and made some
- 14:28calls, including one of George Reed. How's it going, Johnny, It's
- 14:31not. That's why I'm calling. Look. They think a theatrical agent named
- 14:35Harry McQueen stole the mouse. He has offices in Boston and New York.
- 14:39I placed a person of person called at both offices, but with tomorrow Christmas
- 14:41Eve, he might not get the message. Want to find out his home
- 14:45number? Ask him to call me here. Okay, anything else? Hello,
- 14:50Johnny, Johnny, you're there. Yeah, and so is a cat?
- 14:56What a big yellow what's so unusual about that? Oh? Nothing,
- 15:03except he's got a grayish brown mouse between his two front paws. Act two
- 15:16of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar in just a moment. You can't buy
- 15:22happiness by the pond or the yard, but you can have it by the
- 15:24hour with no strings attached. Every Monday through Friday evening, and each Saturday
- 15:28in the daytime when the Robert Cula Show is on the air, join him
- 15:31in his fun loving gang five nights a week. And Saturdays in the daytime
- 15:35on most of these same stations. Now act two of yours, truly,
- 15:39Johnny Dollar and the Missing Mouse Matter. I was standing in the hall of
- 15:52Judia Gillis's home, looking in a big yellow cat that had a mouse between
- 15:56its two front paws. As far as I was concerned, a mouse is
- 15:58a mouse, and this one could be Gulliver. I cut short my phone
- 16:02conversation with Jordan Reed and then started toward the cat. Hikitty, kitty,
- 16:07kitty, I s, kitty, kity, kitty, yikity, Where are
- 16:11you, kitty kitty. That's a good kitty. Ah, kitty, Let
- 16:15me have the little mouse. Oh, this cannibal belonged to you, Marion,
- 16:22Yes, I promised father. What do you mean cannibal? Take a
- 16:25look? Oh no, oh yes, and he's very very dead. Oh
- 16:30you don't think it's Gulliver, do you? Al mister Glazer will have to
- 16:33identify him and if he is, well, that's it. Oh no,
- 16:37no, Johnny, what do you mean? Oh Johnny, Please, you
- 16:38don't have to tell him, do you. Well? Sure, if it's
- 16:41Gulliver, there's thing's cleared up. If it's not your rum, I gets
- 16:45a reward for being a good mouser. Johnny, Please, that almost had
- 16:48a fit when I arrived here with Rum, and he made me promise to
- 16:49keep him in my room. That's the only time he's been out. Well,
- 16:55No, he was out for a little while yesterday while they were rehearsing.
- 16:59I didn't know he was gone till after lunch. Then the corpse could
- 17:02be gullipers. Oh, Johnny, if it is, there's nothing we can
- 17:04do about it now. And if you tell my father, besides making him
- 17:07angry, it'll break his heart. All right. I won't say anything until
- 17:15tomorrow night. Thanks Johnny. Nice good. Nine Christmas Eve morning came cold,
- 17:29crispin clear. The Gillis grounds were covered with new fall and snow.
- 17:32The trees were heavy with icicles, giving the whole place the look of a
- 17:34winter wonderland. I dressed and went down to join Gillis and bird Blazer at
- 17:40breakfast. I was on my third strawberry when the phone started the ring.
- 17:45You're expecting a cold well, yeah, matter of fact, I am,
- 17:51and you'd better answer. If it's somebody at the broadcast station from me,
- 17:56tell them I'll be at the children's hospital at noon. Call me the right.
- 18:00Hello Johnny Dollar speaking. Look, I don't know what's going on down
- 18:06there or why are you're going to pess to me about it? Who is
- 18:07this Harry McQueen, Who did you think? Well? I wasn't sure.
- 18:11Your friend Reed got me out of bed this morning. Dollar. He told
- 18:14me you wanted to ask me some questions about a mouse that's missing from Judiah
- 18:18Gillis's place. And that's right. What do you know about it? Well,
- 18:22I've done a lot of pilfering in my time. I've taken towels from
- 18:26hotels from Maine to Miami, in Seattle to Bridgeport. But I never had
- 18:30to stoop so low as to steal a mouse from any hotel, garbage dump,
- 18:33trap or field. Do I make myself clear perfectly? Except for one
- 18:38thing? Yeah, this particular mouse was a performer. It was trained.
- 18:44It tricks. Still doesn't interest me? Well, then why were you trying
- 18:47to see mister Gillis get some of my people on this Christmas show? Anything
- 18:51wrong with that? It don't be a lot of publicity about it would have
- 18:52done him a lot of good. And you're sure you weren't interested in the
- 18:56mouse? Look, Dollar, when I went into this business eighteen years years
- 19:00ago. I swore then I'd never handled kids, belly dances or animal acts.
- 19:03But you handled bird. Glacier's dog act is what dog act? Bertie
- 19:07and his pal? So somebody's feeding you align Dollar. That act was Bill
- 19:11Bertie and his pal, and the pal is a dummy. Glazer is a
- 19:15top notch ventriloquist. He's a master. You hear me, Dollar, Yeah,
- 19:19Harry, I hear you. Fine. I had to do some thinking,
- 19:26so I put on my coat went outside for a walk around that wooded
- 19:29park. What I had just learned about Glazier confirmed what my instinct, my
- 19:33common sense, had been telling me all along, except for one thing,
- 19:38the performance given by Hecuba and Esmerala the night before. If Glaser had been
- 19:44doing the singing for those two mice, he was a master ventriloquist, which
- 19:48was exactly what Harry McQueen said he was. I'd started back toward the house,
- 19:52wondering if I should get Jadiah's side now and tell him or wait until
- 19:56after the show, and something soft and cold hit me on the back of
- 19:59the head. Hey, sorry, Tony, I couldn't make it such a
- 20:04serious target. Anything new. Uh, Well, if you mean, have
- 20:08I found Gulliver the Singing Mouse? No. Dad told me to tell you.
- 20:11If Gulliver does turn up before one fifteen, rush him off to the
- 20:15hospital. Yeah sure, but I think that's extremely unlikely. You think Rama
- 20:19got him, don't you. If he did, he got a very ordinary
- 20:22mouse. He didn't get one that sings. I'm afraid I lost you,
- 20:26don't. No. I wonder what he wants. That boy on the porch.
- 20:33Oh well, if this was Hardford, i'd say he was the paper
- 20:36boy coming around to collect. Well it's not Hartford, and he's not a
- 20:38paper boy because Dad doesn't subscribe to anything but Portune. Oh well, and
- 20:41he's selling something. What he is, he's not going to give us a
- 20:45chance to buy any Johnny looks looks like we're scared him on. That's funny.
- 20:48Hey, hey, come back. He sure tore out of here when
- 20:52he saw us. I wonder what he wanted. Do you suppose he was
- 20:56one of the kids they invited in to see the dress rehearsal. What if
- 21:00he was, what would he be doing back here today? Oh no,
- 21:04let's take a look around. We found it in the playroom near where Gullabrou's
- 21:12cage had been. It was a roundish metal clam, the kind of boy
- 21:18wraps around his trouser leg when he's riding a bike. I was about to
- 21:21call the hospital and ask Judiah for a list of all the kids they'd invited
- 21:25to the rehearsal. On the front doorbell rang, Johnny, it's that boy
- 21:29again, but let me get in. Hi, Hi, huh. I
- 21:38was older to see the show the other day. Oh yeah, can you
- 21:44see it? No, I wasn't here. There she sure is calling.
- 21:51Yeah, Oh why don't you come in and get warm? Oh no,
- 21:56it's okay, No, come on, come on, nobody's here. Okay,
- 22:00yeah, I don't want to bother. Nobody knows. Just riding by,
- 22:06and I thought i'd stop him. To old man Gillous, what a
- 22:08swell show they put on? Huh? All except for that Santa Claus.
- 22:15What was wrong with him? Nothing? Just well, who believes in all
- 22:21that smashy kids stuff? Mm hmmm, kids? I guess, how do
- 22:26you? Bobby, Bobby almost eleven? Well, being that old, I
- 22:32can understand why you weren't impressed with the Santa Claus. All that other stuff
- 22:36too, you know, like given presents and singing those hymns and junk like
- 22:42that. You gotta cut it out when you when you start growing up,
- 22:48you sure do, boy. Yeah, you know you and my mom get
- 22:56along just flying. Oh yeah, she feels about Christmas. She feels about
- 23:04Christmas just like you and me do. All right, boy, This long
- 23:12fire sure makes your eyes smart? Yeah, sure does. Where do you
- 23:18live, Bobby Cross? Tom SCULLYA? Well, how'd you happen to be
- 23:23over here the other day? Why? I was riding my bike I saw
- 23:29this dog was anyhow, and when I tried to catch he ran from me.
- 23:34I followed the silly muck cler over here. You ever catch him?
- 23:40I was about to win. This man holler and ask me if I wanted
- 23:42to see a free show. So I came in. Well then you must
- 23:48like dogs a lot. Huh, sure you got one? Used to have
- 23:52one. My pop was with us. We can't have no pets where we're
- 23:59living now. Oh that's rough. Yeah, you know that poem which one
- 24:03you know about all through the house? Not a creature was stirring that?
- 24:08Not even a mouse? Yeah, well that fits our place especially now.
- 24:18How do you mean what? I didn't think he'd miss it? You know,
- 24:23man with a house as big as this one. And also when I
- 24:26saw this cute little fell up in that cake what, I didn't really mean
- 24:33to take him on hold of me, But when he got under my sweat
- 24:36and was real quiet, like he liked me, you know what I mean?
- 24:45Yeah, boy, I know when I got to thinking, decided to
- 24:52bring him back. So would you give me the old man to mister Jellis
- 24:56for me? Please? No, I think you'd better do that yourself.
- 25:00No, no, please, he might be awful mad at me by now.
- 25:03No, Bobby, in fact, you're going to get a reward.
- 25:07Yeah, word of honor. Now what do you say we get down where
- 25:11mister Gillis is putting on that Christmas show and see it? Okay, sure,
- 25:17Bobby? Yeah? Did you notice anything unusual about this mouse? Yeah?
- 25:22I sure did. What was it? He got some white on his
- 25:26right hind foot. Expense account had him four one dollar and sixty cents.
- 25:38Cam Fair from the Gillis residence to the Children's hospital for Mary and Bobby and
- 25:42myself. Inside we followed the sound of children laughing and reached the auditorium.
- 25:48Marian found a seat among the nurses, and I took Bobby backstage. When
- 25:52Judaiah saw Gulliber, his face lit up like well, like one of the
- 25:55trees he'd had delivered to the war a Cliver. Bye, Gully, I
- 26:00knew if anybody could do it, you could Dollar. I didn't do a
- 26:03thing, mister Gillis. All the credit goes to Bobby. Oh to Bobby
- 26:07Ware last week. You have to show you man, yes, sir Bert,
- 26:08Bert, Look, look he's back, Delliver. All I do declare,
- 26:15I haven't never been so glad to see a person before. He's getting
- 26:18to go on in just a minute, he will, he will. I'll
- 26:21go check on the microphone and everything be just so. Don't go away now
- 26:23he wants, Bobby, Why don't you sit over there? Wait, you
- 26:26see the stake? Yes, Bert, you think Galliver will sing today?
- 26:33Think I know he will? Oh ready, But that boy had Gulliver all
- 26:38day and all night, and he didn't sing once. Did the boy ask
- 26:42him to maybe Dan get your man, boys and girls? Or the first
- 26:52time anywhere one of the wonders of the world, Gulliver that mouth you want,
- 27:00mister d Can I ask that is what we're going to find out?
- 27:03Bobby? Exciting, isn't it? Dallas. All right, thank you,
- 27:07folks, thank you, thank you now for Gulliver's first number. He liked
- 27:14to sing with what that Gulliver? Oh, I see he's going to sing
- 27:21jingle bells, but he wants me to get off stage so everybody will know
- 27:25it's really him doing it and not me. Thank you? Is he all
- 27:33right? Per fine? Kind does feeding out? Why doesn't he start?
- 27:37He's going to listen? Well? Don now I have seen everything. Berg
- 28:03Blazer had a logical answer for having lied about his old Vaudebelle act. He
- 28:07knew I wouldn't believe the mice could really sing if I had known he was
- 28:11a ventriloquist. And you know well after all, Yet sometimes ah expense account
- 28:21total including camp Fair Hartford station in my apartment thirty eight dollars and twenty cents
- 28:26as for my separate and additional fee as a greeting pond before I took this
- 28:29matter. Well, there's a boy named Bobby Neves who lives on Skelly Avenue
- 28:33over in Providence. See that he gets it? Huh, yours truly,

- 29:00moment. Meantime, I'll make a deal with you. Oh, let me
- 29:03have the mic for a second. Then you can tell them about next week's
- 29:07story. By all means, be my guess. I just don't want to
- 29:10pass up a chance to do two things. First, Well, Pam and
- 29:15Eric and friend mister and Missus Froley, Helen, Will, Scottie, oh

- 29:37you now next week. Next week the case of a prize fighter who could
- 29:41win only by losing because his life depended on it. Right, John Us,
- 29:45won't you yours truly? Johnny Dolly, yours truly? Johnny dollar Is
- 29:53starring Bob Bailey. Originates in Hollywood. It is written by Charles B.
- 29:57Smith and produced and directed by Jack Johnstone. Heard in our cast were Mary
- 30:02Jane Croft, Howard mcneer, Parley Bear, G. Stanley Jones, Bill
- 30:06James, Lawrence Dubkin and Richard Bials. Musical supervision is by Amerigo Marino.
- 30:11Be sure to join us next week, same time and station for another exciting
- 30:15story of yours truly Johnny Dollar. Dan Coberly speaking, welcome back. Well,
- 31:33what a cute and fun story. It just strocks such a great note
- 31:38for Christmas season. Just an enjoyable change of pace for Johnny Dollar. All
- 31:44right, Well, now we're going to turn to listener comments and feedback,
- 31:48and we have some feedback regarding episode fourteen thirty seven, The Killers Brand Matter.
- 31:56Bobby Lee sas not my favorite episode, but john is like pizza.
- 32:00Even when it's still bad, it's still good. Richard said, Yes,
- 32:06there's no such thing as a bad Johnny Dollar episode. Well, thanks so
- 32:09much, y'all. Also have a comment from Daniel if you didn't know,
- 32:14Adam, this is actually based on an episode of The Whistler called The Telltale
- 32:17Brand. I found it interesting that the scriptwriters made the effort to change the
- 32:22plot to tell the story from Johnny's perspective rather than the original scripts protagonists.
- 32:28Perhaps the original episode could be played as a bonus so that great Detective listeners
- 32:31can listen and compare the two. Well, Richard I will consider doing that
- 32:37as an app extra, maybe for the month of January. It's always interesting
- 32:43to see when these comparisons are and I don't always know they when they occur.
- 32:50And Johnny Dollar does do a lot of scripts that are adapted from other
- 32:54programs, but usually their detective shows. Many of the five parters taken from
- 33:00episodes not only of Johnny Dollar that were just one parters, but also Jeff
- 33:05Reagan, Richard Diamond, Sam Spade, not Beat, among others. I
- 33:10have heard a few where they've adapted something a bit different from Johnny Dollars,
- 33:17such as an episode from the Edmin O'Brien era that was based on an episode
- 33:22of the Voyages of the Scarlet Queen. At any rate, we'll see about
- 33:27getting that as a January app extra. Thanks so much for the request,
- 33:30and I will be sure and take a listen to that because I don't have
- 33:34quite an encyclopedic knowledge of the Whistler. Well, that will do it for
- 33:37today. Our Christmas specials continue tomorrow with Dragnet and join us back here next
- 33:44Friday for another episode of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. In the meantime, Senor
