- 0:05Speaker 2: about the Spur season opener tonight in Dallas against the Mavericks.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And that's a TNT telecast tonight, and we'll talk some
- 0:16Speaker 2: more NBA a little bit later on some NFL to
- 0:18Speaker 2: get to. There is a game tonight Vikings Rams as well,
- 0:22Speaker 2: and we're going to hear from Long Wort's head coach
- 0:24Speaker 2: Steve Sarkisian coming up in a few minutes. One thing
- 0:28Speaker 2: I did want to do, it was made official today.
- 0:32Speaker 1: The announcement was.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Brand new elected inductees the class of twenty twenty five
- 0:41Speaker 2: for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco, and
- 0:44Speaker 2: they have a brand new class of eight going in
- 0:48Speaker 2: and these this is the brand new the brand new class.
- 0:54Speaker 2: As I serve as a nominating committee member and we
- 0:59Speaker 2: put and we have lots of different names submitted to us,
- 1:02Speaker 2: and then the committee, which is about twenty of us,
- 1:06Speaker 2: vet through all the names and then submit a ballot
- 1:09Speaker 2: that has a lot of names on it, and then
- 1:11Speaker 2: from that it goes out to all the people who
- 1:13Speaker 2: vote all across the States and they come.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Up with the win with the winners on that, So
- 1:20Speaker 1: here we go.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Newest inductees includes a pro soccer player, a WNBA star,
- 1:26Speaker 2: a longtime college athletic administrator, three NFL players, and a
- 1:30Speaker 2: Negro League in Baseball Hall of Fame.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Person as well.
- 1:35Speaker 2: The class of twenty twenty five selected by ballot through
- 1:38Speaker 2: a statewide selection committee. The votes from the Texas Sports
- 1:41Speaker 2: Hall of Fame members and Ductees, board members, and selection
- 1:44Speaker 2: committee were tabulated by simply voting. So here's your class
- 1:49Speaker 2: in alphabetic order. The late Cedric Benson will go in.
- 1:55Speaker 2: How about Todd Dodge. Now that's rare for high school
- 2:01Speaker 2: coaches and athletes to be in the Texas Sports Hall
- 2:04Speaker 2: of Fame. In the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame,
- 2:06Speaker 2: he's already in that. He's also in the Hall of Honor,
- 2:09Speaker 2: but he's in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame now,
- 2:11Speaker 2: Todd Dodges Britney Griner.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Is going into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Add to Taul Jones, former Cowboys great defensive end, Biz
- 2:21Speaker 2: Mackie who was a great catcher in the Negro leagues.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Carla Overback, the US women's national soccer team player for
- 2:28Speaker 2: a long time. Chris Plonski, our good friend and of
- 2:33Speaker 2: course chief of staff at the University of Texas, longtime
- 2:39Speaker 2: athletic administrator, and another one of those women's athletics pioneers
- 2:44Speaker 2: is In and Richby. Yeah, CP is In and Richmond
- 2:46Speaker 2: Webb who played obviously for the Aggies and in years
- 2:49Speaker 2: with the Miami Dolphins as well. So the banquet will
- 2:54Speaker 2: take place on Saturday, February fifteenth, next February fifteenth, and
- 2:59Speaker 2: tickets are on sale now folks want to go for that,
- 3:01Speaker 2: it's in wake up if they want to go. So
- 3:03Speaker 2: congratulations to the class of twenty twenty five. And as
- 3:07Speaker 2: always there's there seems to be a University of Texas
- 3:11Speaker 2: flavor to it as well, and that of course includes
- 3:17Speaker 2: the late great Cedric Benson. Also, as I mentioned, Todd
- 3:22Speaker 2: Dodge going in former Texas a long run quarterback and
- 3:25Speaker 2: of course great high school coach and now doing quite
- 3:29Speaker 2: well at Lovejoyce turned it around after an oh and
- 3:31Speaker 2: to start and won four in a row afterwards. And
- 3:37Speaker 2: Chris Plonski, so the three with University of Texas ties
- 3:41Speaker 2: going into the hall as well. So that's that's a
- 3:43Speaker 2: pretty cool deal, all right, So we talked some NBA
- 3:47Speaker 2: in the in the first hour of the program of
- 3:52Speaker 2: the games that were played last night for that, and
- 3:57Speaker 2: there are more games tonight, including the Mavericks and.
- 4:01Speaker 1: The Spurs playing in Dallas.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And then in terms of other things, this was something
- 4:10Speaker 2: we had not to Did you see what.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Happened to John D. Murray?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, opening night, unbelievable. Broke his hand in the winner
- 4:20Speaker 2: of the Bulls. He's out indefinitely. He had fourteen points,
- 4:26Speaker 2: ten assists, eight rebounds in his debut for the Pelicans.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Of course, they picked him up in that offseason trade
- 4:34Speaker 2: with Atlanta, and he appeared to either sustain or aggravate
- 4:37Speaker 2: the injury. Just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter,
- 4:39Speaker 2: New Orleans was up twelve. He tried a three pointer,
- 4:42Speaker 2: was fouled by Zach Levine. On the way down. He
- 4:44Speaker 2: tumbled over and came up holding his left hand. He
- 4:47Speaker 2: was able to go to the line. He made two
- 4:50Speaker 2: or three on the free throw line, but then with
- 4:51Speaker 2: sub doubts Repelicans guard CJ. Mccllinson. But hopefully he's not
- 4:56Speaker 2: out too long. But he's out. So that's that's in
- 5:00Speaker 2: New Orleans. Is one of those teams you should keep
- 5:02Speaker 2: an eye on this year.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and there's any good side from it, it's that
- 5:06Speaker 3: it's his left hand and he is a right handed shooter.
- 5:09Speaker 3: But yeah, interesting New Orleans team. I mean they went
- 5:13Speaker 3: in the summer trying to figure out a way to
- 5:14Speaker 3: move brandon Ingram and they did not. So that of
- 5:17Speaker 3: course can maybe fractual locker room. It can you know,
- 5:20Speaker 3: damage the season, or it can you know, be a
- 5:23Speaker 3: catalyst for biither have a really good season. But they're
- 5:27Speaker 3: a team where you know, they've haven't had as much
- 5:30Speaker 3: postseason success as I think the front office would have
- 5:33Speaker 3: liked and even us NBA fans would have liked with CJ.
- 5:36Speaker 3: McCollum and Zion Williamson, and you know, they've made some
- 5:40Speaker 3: great draft moves and signs. You know, Trey Murphy I
- 5:42Speaker 3: think is a great player. I love Herb Jones. So
- 5:46Speaker 3: a team this year that I think, you know, if
- 5:47Speaker 3: we get to the trade deadline and they're in that
- 5:50Speaker 3: play in range or you know, still not top six,
- 5:52Speaker 3: they could be a team that decides, you know what,
- 5:55Speaker 3: it has not worked with this core group, Let's just
- 5:58Speaker 3: try and rebuild, maybe move on Sion get a massive
- 6:01Speaker 3: picks package. You know there's some teams out there with
- 6:04Speaker 3: a lot of draft picks, including my OKC Thunder and
- 6:07Speaker 3: Zion would fit that bill perhaps, so uh.
- 6:09Speaker 1: A real fun team.
- 6:10Speaker 3: You know, they're one of the rosters where every year
- 6:12Speaker 3: I kind of I kind of want them to be good.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I like Willie Green, their head coach, former basketball player.
- 6:17Speaker 3: But uh, you know, it sucks to have a injury
- 6:20Speaker 3: like this on an opening day.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But you know, the timetable is up in the air.
- 6:24Speaker 3: But at least it's his left hand and on his
- 6:25Speaker 3: shooting hand.
- 6:26Speaker 2: One other NBA note before we get to the break,
- 6:28Speaker 2: and then we're gonna hear from sard You shaid you
- 6:33Speaker 2: you haven't. You haven't gone in yet on the NBA
- 6:36Speaker 2: A league pass package.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Uh haven't.
- 6:39Speaker 2: But but you you watched the Suns last night right
- 6:43Speaker 2: in the Sun's Clippers game. Did they show highlights on
- 6:47Speaker 2: that telecast of the Warriors Trailblazers game?
- 6:52Speaker 1: Did not? Okay, did you see what Steve Kerr did
- 6:56Speaker 1: last night? I did not. Steve Kerr has looked at.
- 7:00Speaker 2: As being kind of an innovative kind of guy, right, sure,
- 7:05Speaker 2: this is a different kind of definition of innovative. He
- 7:09Speaker 2: used a twelve man rotation game with Portland twelve guys.
- 7:16Speaker 2: He played twelve guys, and throughout training camp he repeatedly
- 7:21Speaker 2: said that there were thirteen players he thought deserved rotational minutes,
- 7:27Speaker 2: and he stressed some difficult decisions he'd have to.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Make with his rotation.
- 7:32Speaker 2: He started Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Minga, Draymond Green,
- 7:37Speaker 2: and Trey Jackson. Davis Okay, he says he'd like that
- 7:41Speaker 2: to be a starting five. Budd He healed, was first
- 7:43Speaker 2: off the bench, follow A, Kevon Looney and Brandon Putzemski,
- 7:50Speaker 2: and then he went after that to Gary Payton the
- 7:54Speaker 2: second and Kyle Anderson, he said. Wiggans said, this is
- 7:58Speaker 2: the deepest team I've ever been on, and Curry said,
- 8:00Speaker 2: it's the identity of this team right now.
- 8:03Speaker 1: We're going to rely on our death.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I don't recall seeing too many NBA teams go double
- 8:08Speaker 2: digit in their regular roster rotation on the floor.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And fourteen played total.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Lenny Walters when Lindy Waters rather tho Oklahoma State Guarden
- 8:18Speaker 3: former and then GUIs Santos also playing and insane them
- 8:21Speaker 3: out and I think Golden State is going to be
- 8:24Speaker 3: tinkering with their lineup for most of the season, Craig,
- 8:27Speaker 3: because I'm still not sure. This might just be end
- 8:30Speaker 3: up being a playing team as well, unless Wiggins or
- 8:33Speaker 3: Kaminga takes a massive step. But Buddy Hilled at a
- 8:36Speaker 3: good game twenty two points, five to seven from beyond
- 8:39Speaker 3: the three point line, and Andrew Wiggins with twenty points.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I did see that Steph Curry started zero for five
- 8:45Speaker 3: last night. Think it was interesting you finished four to ten,
- 8:48Speaker 3: seventeen points. I think the key for Golden State this
- 8:51Speaker 3: year is just try and keep Steph healthy and also
- 8:55Speaker 3: don't exhaust him because it felt like towards the end
- 8:58Speaker 3: of last season Craig, he was just running out of
- 9:00Speaker 3: out of gas. But he played phenomenal. Now, of course
- 9:03Speaker 3: he didn't play in the playoffs, but he played phenomenal
- 9:06Speaker 3: in the Olympics. So right that Steph Curry can can
- 9:09Speaker 3: come out towards you know, the second half of the
- 9:11Speaker 3: season into the playoffs, Golden State could be fun. But
- 9:14Speaker 3: Steep Kris a lot to figure out.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Obviously, they won by thirty five points, and he said,
- 9:19Speaker 2: this is as deep of a team as I've ever coached,
- 9:22Speaker 2: and we've got to lean into that. I've never played
- 9:24Speaker 2: twelve before, but we're gonna do it. I was thinking, well,
- 9:27Speaker 2: maybe I'll just play ten. We'll have to tell two
- 9:28Speaker 2: of these guys that are gonna sit, but I just
- 9:30Speaker 2: couldn't justify that.
- 9:32Speaker 1: We'll see how that works.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I wonder if that's going to be like a basketball
- 9:35Speaker 2: version of like what the Dodgers are doing with bullpen games,
- 9:39Speaker 2: going with pitcher after pitcher for an inning or an
- 9:42Speaker 2: inning and a third and.
- 9:43Speaker 1: That sort of stuff. Be interesting to see, all right.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Up next, we'll hear from Longhorn's head coach, Steve Sarkisian
- 9:48Speaker 2: will continue on sports Radio AM thirteen under the zon
- 9:51Speaker 2: in the iHeartRadio app
