- 0:11Speaker 2: Okay, have you got one in your head?
- 0:13Speaker 3: Three?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Two?
- 0:14Speaker 4: One calif oh you two on brand?
- 0:19Speaker 2: What did you do? Picnic?
- 0:20Speaker 3: As in to go outside and eat food or a
- 0:22Speaker 3: chocolate bar.
- 0:23Speaker 1: No, no, to go outside and eat food with the
- 0:24Speaker 1: cactus and the trees.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Nice. Do you know what the Japanese word for picnic is?
- 0:29Speaker 1: What?
- 0:32Speaker 2: All right?
- 0:32Speaker 3: You're with no drimtra not that'll fire him up. Hello,
- 0:49Speaker 3: and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we're very
- 0:52Speaker 3: tired on a Monday morning, but we talk about netble.
- 0:54Speaker 3: We talk about so much more. My name is Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I'm Capcox, I'm lizer Lessen, I'm back.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Got rid of that pesky so good?
- 1:02Speaker 5: And she's a bit too entertaining, isn't she? She is?
- 1:05Speaker 1: And she does come with some good dirt and inside
- 1:08Speaker 1: in forward and he happy winter everyone though, happy winter.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Pinching a plant for some month no return.
- 1:15Speaker 2: And rabbits and stuff.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yeah, rabbit.
- 1:17Speaker 2: We always say rabbits the first day of the month.
- 1:20Speaker 2: If you say it before you say anything else, you
- 1:23Speaker 2: get good luck for them.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Why are you telling me this now? And I can't
- 1:25Speaker 3: have good luck?
- 1:26Speaker 2: With this whole superstitions.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Why didn't you ring me last night?
- 1:30Speaker 2: And could you? Would you have remembered?
- 1:32Speaker 3: Who knows? I barely remember my own name today, And yeah, like.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Whatever, Catherine and a rabbits. She's been doing it for years,
- 1:39Speaker 5: like rooming with her. If you room with her in
- 1:41Speaker 5: the last night of the month, she'd write herself little
- 1:44Speaker 5: little notes and stick them on the end of the
- 1:47Speaker 5: bed and then you wake up at six am, Rabbit rabbits,
- 1:49Speaker 5: you'd be like, what what's going on?
- 1:53Speaker 4: You're welcome madness of room within?
- 1:56Speaker 5: Oh my god?
- 1:58Speaker 3: Do you get a roommate with your new team, Lisz.
- 2:01Speaker 5: My new team? Look, I don't think my new team
- 2:03Speaker 5: would want me as a roommate. Can we can we
- 2:05Speaker 5: park that for a second, because I will tell you
- 2:07Speaker 5: about my new team. But you're talking about winter. I
- 2:09Speaker 5: don't know what happened to winter, Like winter doesn't doesn't
- 2:13Speaker 5: happen anymore, not at my house anyway.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Like I remember when I was a little kid.
- 2:16Speaker 5: I grew up in western Sydney and I would walk
- 2:18Speaker 5: to the train station in the morning, which I worked
- 2:20Speaker 5: out the other day was one point seven kilometers to
- 2:23Speaker 5: and from I think, I I know that's a long
- 2:25Speaker 5: way to send a kid to walk. Anyway, I used
- 2:28Speaker 5: to get chill blaines and my fingers and my toes
- 2:30Speaker 5: because it was so cold.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Whereas was first day of winter.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Today my son goes off to admittedly we're on the
- 2:36Speaker 5: north coast of New South Wales, but he goes off
- 2:37Speaker 5: in his short set of shirt.
- 2:39Speaker 4: It's nine degrees but it.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Was like the first of June. You are on the
- 2:44Speaker 3: far north coast of New South Wales instead of winter,
- 2:48Speaker 3: and I'm sure you are remembering the coldest days.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So it was bloody cold this morning in Sydney. Oh,
- 2:55Speaker 1: because so Harpur made the school netball team and they've
- 2:59Speaker 1: got it well. The tournament it's in a few weeks.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So they had a training session this morning at seven am.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I said, I'm happy to help. I'm not running it,
- 3:08Speaker 1: but I'm happy to help anyway. So we rock up
- 3:10Speaker 1: this morning at seven o'clock. We had to meet at
- 3:12Speaker 1: the school at that time and then they were walking
- 3:14Speaker 1: over to the netball courts.
- 3:15Speaker 2: It was bloody freezing.
- 3:16Speaker 1: We had like all the clothes on, puffa jackets everything.
- 3:20Speaker 1: But how's this So before we get out of the car,
- 3:24Speaker 1: Mum because it's your five's and year sixes. She's in
- 3:27Speaker 1: your five mum, do not embarrass me. I got the
- 3:31Speaker 1: full lecture. Don't call me pumpkinhead, don't call me any
- 3:35Speaker 1: of the nicknames that you call me. Do not embarrass me.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Don't try any of those jokes that you do at training.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Like I got the full lecture.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Like you not a minute.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Some people might actually be quite happy that I'm coming
- 3:47Speaker 1: to training anyway. So we were doing some long court
- 3:49Speaker 1: a little bit later on in the session and she
- 3:51Speaker 1: had to take a throw in. I was like, God,
- 3:53Speaker 1: keep her, can you take the throwing?
- 3:57Speaker 2: And she just looked at me and I'm like, well,
- 3:59Speaker 2: I'm not lead to your.
- 4:00Speaker 5: I love that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yesterday at the Swift's game, I was on the big
- 4:04Speaker 3: screen doing the h o tt oh children. I'm the
- 4:08Speaker 3: first to admit I don't know the moves too. But
- 4:10Speaker 3: my mate Christine and I because it was had some
- 4:12Speaker 3: friends come along with their daughters and it's like, will
- 4:14Speaker 3: you girls go and sit somewhere else and your mothers
- 4:17Speaker 3: can sit with Pete nine. It was great. I loved it.
- 4:20Speaker 3: But yeah, and I got some real performance reviews on
- 4:25Speaker 3: the way home.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Did they text you in the middle, like when it happened,
- 4:27Speaker 1: if they weren't sitting with you and oh my god,
- 4:29Speaker 1: sit down.
- 4:31Speaker 3: She knew I had my phone away. I was watching
- 4:33Speaker 3: the game. But yeah, on the way home, I got
- 4:35Speaker 3: some performance reviews for it. It's like good or bad
- 4:38Speaker 3: or just don't very bad, very bad, very bad, very
- 4:41Speaker 3: very It was embarrassing, embarrassed yourself. Mask see when my
- 4:44Speaker 3: god be darlin like, I'm that's ever got me.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It's like a challenge when they say that, Why would
- 4:53Speaker 1: you say that out loud?
- 4:54Speaker 5: Now I'm well, so the whole point of having children
- 4:58Speaker 5: so you can pay it forward for your it's embarrassing you.
- 5:02Speaker 5: And I did that on the weekend. So I made
- 5:04Speaker 5: my comeback. I came back to proper netball, not social netball,
- 5:08Speaker 5: which I did last year just to see if I
- 5:09Speaker 5: could survive. And I played Div one at Ballina on
- 5:13Speaker 5: the weekend.
- 5:14Speaker 3: What one straight in?
- 5:16Speaker 2: Why would they put you into div one? Without wow?
- 5:19Speaker 5: Because I'm the coach, I get to decide, dude, oh
- 5:23Speaker 5: my god, how much?
- 5:25Speaker 4: Why did they put me straight into div one?
- 5:27Speaker 5: Why?
- 5:27Speaker 2: I ordered?
- 5:28Speaker 3: So when you made this comeback because one of the dribblers.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Of course, this is an amazing spy network that we
- 5:35Speaker 3: are developing around the country. So Norell Garafano, her son
- 5:38Speaker 3: was playing in the team against you.
- 5:40Speaker 5: I believe yes, So I kept it very on the
- 5:42Speaker 5: on the lowdown. So the way it happened was, so
- 5:45Speaker 5: the team that I coached, she's playing in under sixteens
- 5:47Speaker 5: and there's a couple of kids in that division who
- 5:50Speaker 5: play for our club. So our club is Headlands and
- 5:53Speaker 5: Headlands don't have a senior team in Division one. So
- 5:57Speaker 5: I went to Headlands and said, there's a buy in
- 5:59Speaker 5: Div one, why don't we put a Headlands team in
- 6:03Speaker 5: and we'll just get some kids who are playing in
- 6:06Speaker 5: the under sixteens to play out and that way, because
- 6:08Speaker 5: what has been happening is that because there's no senior team,
- 6:11Speaker 5: the girls would finish under sixteen. So then they go
- 6:13Speaker 5: to one of the other clubs it has a senior team.
- 6:15Speaker 5: So there's a couple of clubs have got multiple teams.
- 6:16Speaker 5: I'm like, whyn't we just make a senior team and
- 6:19Speaker 5: we can get some kids and they can all play out.
- 6:21Speaker 5: And there's a couple of girls who are really quite
- 6:24Speaker 5: talented and who are in the new Southwest Pathways and
- 6:26Speaker 5: who I think would probably benefit from playing div one
- 6:29Speaker 5: rather Thunder sixteen.
- 6:30Speaker 4: So they said, yep, good ideas. So put it all together.
- 6:33Speaker 5: And then this weekend there are a couple because when
- 6:35Speaker 5: they live on the North Coast, there's a couple of
- 6:37Speaker 5: kids away. I think it a surf thing and someone
- 6:39Speaker 5: else was away and so we were down some place.
- 6:42Speaker 5: So I was like, oh, dive one, I can fill in.
- 6:45Speaker 3: So having world champions around you might be able to
- 6:49Speaker 3: step in.
- 6:50Speaker 4: The best thing once.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So I registered, and then I was like, question before
- 6:54Speaker 1: you tell this story. So Kendall Jenner, who's one of
- 6:58Speaker 1: the Kardashi in clan, doesn't know she does whose show jumping,
- 7:02Speaker 1: but never registers in her own name because the peraps
- 7:06Speaker 1: and stuff will come out.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Sure, who did you register as me?
- 7:09Speaker 5: Netball HQ, I like a thing that for registering both
- 7:12Speaker 5: the kids for things. And remember it's bowing. It's a
- 7:15Speaker 5: small association and other than if it wasn't, if it
- 7:18Speaker 5: wasn't for those no good no dribblers, then no one
- 7:21Speaker 5: would ever have known.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So I imagine seeing Lizellous on the team sheet when
- 7:26Speaker 1: you're about to play.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Well, fortunately the average age from what Noelle was saying
- 7:31Speaker 3: was about sixty. There might have been a lot of
- 7:33Speaker 3: them who had never even heard.
- 7:34Speaker 4: About their mums were excited. They couldn't have cared less.
- 7:38Speaker 3: So there's that lady from a celebrity.
- 7:40Speaker 4: That's right, what's she doing here?
- 7:42Speaker 5: So all the kids on my team, obviously I coach
- 7:44Speaker 5: most of them and I knew them. But so they're
- 7:48Speaker 5: all like fifteen, and I thought, if I can get
- 7:51Speaker 5: enough players to come up and play, I will, and so,
- 7:54Speaker 5: but I thought I'll registered just in case. So I registered,
- 7:56Speaker 5: and then I was like, I don't have a uniform anyway.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Evelyn had a speed uniform and I put it on.
- 8:01Speaker 5: I'm like, my ass doesn't look good enough to wear
- 8:05Speaker 5: this uniform anymore. So I just wore it as a single,
- 8:07Speaker 5: and I just wore some long leggings and.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Their little dresses. I've already got changed. And we're lucky if.
- 8:16Speaker 3: I let you, because some of these associations would say, no,
- 8:19Speaker 3: you're not allowed to wear those.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Look. I'm friends with the president Kelly, and I knew
- 8:24Speaker 5: that she was overseas, so I was fine. So I
- 8:27Speaker 5: actually had enough kids who I brought up so from
- 8:29Speaker 5: other teens, and so we had seven and I thought, actually,
- 8:31Speaker 5: i've readistered it, I'm going to play. So I ended
- 8:33Speaker 5: up playing a half, but the second quarter I played
- 8:36Speaker 5: with Evelyn. She played golden fence and I played goalkeeper.
- 8:40Speaker 5: There is something so nice about playing with your daughter,
- 8:44Speaker 5: something so much better about yelling her.
- 8:46Speaker 4: And you go base, you go top.
- 8:47Speaker 5: She's like, geez, your bossy. I'm like, yeah, go and
- 8:50Speaker 5: speak to Alison Broadbent. And then at one point I
- 8:52Speaker 5: went out to try it, and then I moved her
- 8:54Speaker 5: out to wing defence and I went out to try
- 8:55Speaker 5: and get a specky and I collected her and were
- 8:59Speaker 5: laughing about and on the way home when Matthew goes,
- 9:02Speaker 5: you know what, you should sit down one day and
- 9:04Speaker 5: have a mineral water with Selena Gilson and she can
- 9:06Speaker 5: tell you all the times that your mother took her around.
- 9:10Speaker 4: So did you go okay? I went okay?
- 9:14Speaker 5: But it was so funny, like so often I'd see
- 9:18Speaker 5: the intersect and I'd be like, nah, So I got
- 9:23Speaker 5: one specky and Evely looked at me. She goes, oh,
- 9:25Speaker 5: that's what you've been trying to tell me, and I'm
- 9:27Speaker 5: like yeah, And it was worth a tear in my
- 9:29Speaker 5: groan to get that Speccy.
- 9:32Speaker 4: One of the kids. Yeah, one of the kids in
- 9:34Speaker 4: our team. So the other team were fun. That was
- 9:36Speaker 4: really good value.
- 9:37Speaker 5: One of the girls in my team, her mum sent
- 9:39Speaker 5: me a message and said, Adelaide just said to me, gee,
- 9:42Speaker 5: Liz doesn't play like an old person, and I'm like, Okay,
- 9:45Speaker 5: that's probably as crazy as I could have expected.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Actually is, isn't it?
- 9:51Speaker 4: Anyway? It was fun.
- 9:52Speaker 5: And the funny thing was that on Sunday the meat
- 9:55Speaker 5: tre said to me, he goes. The look of joy
- 9:57Speaker 5: on your face when I picked you and Eve up
- 9:59Speaker 5: was priceless.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Is it? You just love going? Oh that's so true.
- 10:03Speaker 5: I just love playing, and you sort of forget about
- 10:05Speaker 5: that when you get caught up in all the other stuff.
- 10:07Speaker 4: But anyway, I don't know if I'm playing in so.
- 10:10Speaker 3: You you, you and Pumpkinhead wouldn't be playing together because
- 10:14Speaker 3: she's a keeper, right, So this situation.
- 10:17Speaker 4: I wouldn't.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I wouldn't go back and play my position. Well, olmus
- 10:23Speaker 1: you to you very nearly did, but I did have
- 10:26Speaker 1: a thousand wines under my belt.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think in the light of day it
- 10:30Speaker 2: would have been a hard note.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Yeah, Dotty and I wouldn't have to play together that either,
- 10:33Speaker 3: because she's a wing defense.
- 10:34Speaker 5: If you play your position, you know what you're doing.
- 10:36Speaker 5: And that's what I thought, at least some I'm not doing.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I'm not trying, Like it's muscle memory, right, you roughly
- 10:42Speaker 5: know what you're doing.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Yeah, But I just feel like then you can't suck
- 10:46Speaker 1: because there's a level of expectation on you playing that position.
- 10:49Speaker 1: See if I played goalkeeper and I sucked, it's fine
- 10:52Speaker 1: because I have always yea.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Shooter too, Like it's so obvious if you suck anyway,
- 11:02Speaker 3: that's very exciting. It was a body feeling today.
- 11:05Speaker 4: So very so.
- 11:07Speaker 5: I took a still at one point and landed, and
- 11:10Speaker 5: my daughter instead of helping me out, just walked over
- 11:12Speaker 5: and laughed at me.
- 11:13Speaker 3: So well, raised her Ryan, that's good, exactly right.
- 11:19Speaker 4: It was fun.
- 11:20Speaker 5: I would highly he's a no Dribble recommends if you
- 11:23Speaker 5: haven't played, and if you just go back and play,
- 11:25Speaker 5: I recommend, highly recommend.
- 11:26Speaker 3: It was fun warm up for like four hours beforehand.
- 11:30Speaker 3: I was the actual No Dribble recommends.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Do all the leg swings under the sun.
- 11:36Speaker 4: No, I just have a few beers afterwards. You're fine,
- 11:38Speaker 4: That's what I did.
- 11:40Speaker 1: If it's going to blow up your males or blow
- 11:42Speaker 1: it up goodly virtuous today Because while you were doing that,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I was donating blood on Saturday.
- 11:51Speaker 3: A number of dribbler's answer the call. I put a
- 11:54Speaker 3: post up that Red Cross the Blood Bank has asked
- 11:56Speaker 3: for desperately us for donors at the moment, and so
- 11:59Speaker 3: got a lot of dripplers who went, oh, I'll just
- 12:01Speaker 3: make an appointment and go in.
- 12:02Speaker 2: When are you going that soul come?
- 12:04Speaker 3: I will be going in a couple of weeks to
- 12:06Speaker 3: donate plasma. So you can only donate whole blood every
- 12:09Speaker 3: three months, but plasma you can donate every two weeks.
- 12:12Speaker 4: So okay, good, we'll.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Make purpose that plasma and more painful.
- 12:15Speaker 3: No, no, it's the same amount of pain. Plasma takes
- 12:18Speaker 3: a bit longer because what they do is they take
- 12:20Speaker 3: the blood out and then now I'm going to get
- 12:22Speaker 3: a bit scientific. Now they shake the shit out of
- 12:25Speaker 3: it and take part of it out and then put
- 12:27Speaker 3: it part of it back into your body. So you're
- 12:29Speaker 3: there for longer because there's there's a couple of processes
- 12:32Speaker 3: that need to go as where when they're taking whole blood,
- 12:35Speaker 3: they just take it out and they're done with it.
- 12:37Speaker 3: But you could do whole blood for your first time
- 12:39Speaker 3: because you haven't done it, So I could go sooner
- 12:41Speaker 3: do plasma and you could do.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Hold and then I'll get mentally prepared. Okay, great, good plan.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Then we'll have sausage rolls and Catherine, I'm going to
- 12:47Speaker 3: say that no milkshake tastes as good as the milkshake
- 12:50Speaker 3: that you get after giving blood.
- 12:52Speaker 4: No milk, do you know what?
- 12:52Speaker 1: I would argue that when we were in our surfing era,
- 12:57Speaker 1: we would spend an hour or two in the surf.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I'm going to need more information on this,
- 13:03Speaker 3: a couple of giraffes on surfboards.
- 13:05Speaker 2: What what we were attempting.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Is, Slaine, did Lane get you into the.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Literally elane champion?
- 13:15Speaker 5: She didn't want to ruin her reputation by hanging out
- 13:17Speaker 5: with the likes of us and the surf.
- 13:20Speaker 1: But we did go and have a good couple of
- 13:22Speaker 1: hours in the ocean. One time you get out of
- 13:24Speaker 1: that and you go to Curly's in North Curl Curl
- 13:26Speaker 1: for a milkshake. That thing goes down so smooth.
- 13:29Speaker 5: Sure there is that, but they give up the post
- 13:31Speaker 5: give blood milkshake like the other the cup of tea
- 13:34Speaker 5: you have post giving birth. But there's just things that
- 13:36Speaker 5: sometimes you go Nothing will ever taste as good as this.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Tea post birth.
- 13:45Speaker 2: She used a moment there.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I think anyway, she certainly made up for it was
- 13:50Speaker 3: what she didn't do in the first hour after birth.
- 13:52Speaker 3: She's certainly made up for lost time. Correct, And we're
- 13:54Speaker 3: going to need to talk about some netples soon. But
- 13:56Speaker 3: you had something happened this morning that you need to
- 13:59Speaker 3: also have.
- 13:59Speaker 1: That was well, that was me being told to get
- 14:01Speaker 1: back in my box and not embarrassment.
- 14:03Speaker 3: That was it. Then Okay, well, I guess we can
- 14:05Speaker 3: take a little break and come back and talk about netball.
- 14:21Speaker 3: So we're going to change things up a bit this week.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Ordinarily we would talk about super Netball in this segment,
- 14:27Speaker 3: and last week, because we've now do two episodes a week,
- 14:30Speaker 3: on Friday, we talked about Calm Games. This week because
- 14:33Speaker 3: of the Calm Game squad announcement, we're going to talk
- 14:36Speaker 3: about that today Wednesday, and then on Friday we will
- 14:40Speaker 3: be talking about in depth about the Super Netball round
- 14:43Speaker 3: and the preview of the week ahead. A big announcement
- 14:47Speaker 3: yesterday with the Commonwealth game squad being announced, and yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 3: I had.
- 14:53Speaker 2: That topic hot topic.
- 14:55Speaker 3: So I wanted to know as two people who have
- 14:59Speaker 3: been in the hot seat there waiting to receive calls
- 15:03Speaker 3: or knowing whether you're in or whether you're out. I
- 15:05Speaker 3: would love to know recognizing that you were receiving these
- 15:10Speaker 3: calls when I think pigeons would fly to your house.
- 15:12Speaker 3: It was, you know, pre internet. I don't know whether
- 15:16Speaker 3: we had phones.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Fact a few times my pigeon got lost.
- 15:22Speaker 3: But I would love to hear about that because obviously
- 15:23Speaker 3: it was a great day for some. There were a
- 15:26Speaker 3: number of players who took to the court on the
- 15:29Speaker 3: weekend feeling this is great, you know, and some particularly
- 15:33Speaker 3: like Amy Sliger, Grace White, Jesse grenvilld You know, there
- 15:37Speaker 3: are a number of them who would be absolutely walking
- 15:40Speaker 3: on air. There were other people who had to take
- 15:43Speaker 3: the court who would not have had happen what they
- 15:46Speaker 3: wanted to have happened. I'm talking about ash Evan, I'm
- 15:48Speaker 3: talking about Paige Hadley. So I'd love to talk about
- 15:51Speaker 3: for you to as athletes, your experience in that, and
- 15:55Speaker 3: then we'll talk maybe about what actually did happen on
- 15:57Speaker 3: the weekend.
- 15:59Speaker 1: We quite often were in camp. Probably most of the
- 16:04Speaker 1: time we were in camp when the team was announced Hailey's,
- 16:06Speaker 1: it wasn't often that we'd get a phone call after.
- 16:09Speaker 5: I can't remember getting a phone call after. Ever, my
- 16:12Speaker 5: very first selection was a phone call. I do remember
- 16:14Speaker 5: that because I got the phone call and I kept
- 16:18Speaker 5: it all on the down low, because I was in
- 16:19Speaker 5: the study with the door shut else living with mum
- 16:21Speaker 5: and dad at the time, and.
- 16:23Speaker 3: We're wearing your big Darryl Lee bow.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Not that day. I wasn't a shame, although I did
- 16:28Speaker 2: barely take it off.
- 16:29Speaker 3: In my heart, that's what you will.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Okay, well if that works for you anyway. So I
- 16:34Speaker 1: got the team list and whatever else, obviously very excited.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I walked out to Mum and Dad and they said
- 16:39Speaker 1: how to go and I said, well, this is the team.
- 16:42Speaker 1: La la la la la la Catherine Cox La la la,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and they're like, what's the ultimate poker face. That was
- 16:48Speaker 1: a good time. But that's the only time I can
- 16:50Speaker 1: remember ever being a phone call.
- 16:52Speaker 3: But what if you were told when you were in camp,
- 16:55Speaker 3: there was obviously a phone call or something to tell
- 16:57Speaker 3: you that you'd been selected to go into.
- 16:59Speaker 1: No No in the room with the people that didn't
- 17:02Speaker 1: get selected, and they would call out the names and
- 17:05Speaker 1: no one could get excited because.
- 17:07Speaker 2: You were sitting literally next to the people.
- 17:09Speaker 5: It was horrible, and if you didn't get selected, you
- 17:12Speaker 5: had to like the team list would be named and
- 17:16Speaker 5: then the manager would say, okay, if you got selected,
- 17:19Speaker 5: to stay here and then you will have a chat
- 17:22Speaker 5: to the coach. And if you didn't get selected, hop up,
- 17:25Speaker 5: grab your bags and we'll go to the airport. And
- 17:27Speaker 5: those girls would go to the airport and just hit
- 17:30Speaker 5: Corners Club so hard because it was awful, and it
- 17:33Speaker 5: was the worst thing because you were so excited, but
- 17:37Speaker 5: you just had to you totally had to dial it
- 17:40Speaker 5: down so you couldn't immediately celebrate and then you couldn't
- 17:46Speaker 5: commiserate with somebody who was in the team because I
- 17:49Speaker 5: had to get up and walk out.
- 17:50Speaker 4: It was awful.
- 17:50Speaker 5: It was just then awkward, awkward thing. And then over
- 17:53Speaker 5: the years I tried different things. There was one take
- 17:56Speaker 5: of you a rose. Yeah, that one time they were
- 18:02Speaker 5: in a camp in Melbourne, Catherine and I was rooming
- 18:06Speaker 5: with Charrelle and it was the first time she was
- 18:08Speaker 5: selected and they put the team under the door and
- 18:14Speaker 5: its your hotel room and then that morning you put
- 18:16Speaker 5: the team listen when it's gonna be like eight o'clock
- 18:18Speaker 5: or something. And I was room with Sharazle, and I
- 18:22Speaker 5: had hoped that Catherine would get selected and then we
- 18:24Speaker 5: would go and have a holiday somewhere afterwards. And Catherine
- 18:28Speaker 5: didn't get selected, and I looked at it and went, oh,
- 18:30Speaker 5: you go, Schrell, You're in. And so now she tells
- 18:32Speaker 5: that story about what a rude mole. Rightfully I was
- 18:35Speaker 5: because I was so disappointed about Catherine. I forgot to
- 18:38Speaker 5: be excited about Sharazle. There is just no good way
- 18:43Speaker 5: to do it, because she's so fun.
- 18:44Speaker 3: I think a good way to do it is what
- 18:48Speaker 3: I think they do now would have that conversation one
- 18:51Speaker 3: on one and allow that person to process whatever those
- 18:54Speaker 3: emotions are in that moment. So I wondered, would they know,
- 18:58Speaker 3: So if you get a call high pathetically, if Stacy
- 19:01Speaker 3: were to call me and say I was in, would
- 19:03Speaker 3: I know at that time that you were in or
- 19:05Speaker 3: what not?
- 19:05Speaker 2: I don't think they get told the rest of the team.
- 19:08Speaker 3: So wow, they just have to wait for the announcement.
- 19:10Speaker 5: But then, like you can imagine, is if the WhatsApp
- 19:12Speaker 5: group dark nuts like, yeah, are you in?
- 19:15Speaker 4: Are you in? Are you in?
- 19:16Speaker 5: I love Jesse Hatty France. Last time credible. I need
- 19:22Speaker 5: to learn because I'm sure we'll be saying it a lot.
- 19:24Speaker 5: First year is with it as a professional contract and
- 19:27Speaker 5: straight into the squad. But how funny she said to
- 19:31Speaker 5: Stacey Mareenkevich, I didn't think you knew my name, And
- 19:33Speaker 5: Stacey was like, what do you think I do on weekends?
- 19:36Speaker 5: Like Catherine, I will say, we heard it here first
- 19:42Speaker 5: from you. You tip this a month or so ago
- 19:45Speaker 5: that you thought she'd make the squad, and now you
- 19:46Speaker 5: think she'll make the team.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Wow, that's yeah, very very good.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Of all the ends that could do with a shake up,
- 19:53Speaker 1: it's probably the defense end. Sunday is selected in the squad,
- 19:58Speaker 1: but I don't think we'll be re for common games,
- 20:01Speaker 1: so there's another player there that I don't know.
- 20:04Speaker 4: She's very good.
- 20:06Speaker 5: I should point out here that this squad is for
- 20:10Speaker 5: Common off games and then Constellation Cup and the first
- 20:13Speaker 5: part of twenty seven, but there will be a new
- 20:15Speaker 5: squad named.
- 20:16Speaker 4: For the World Cup in July and twenty twenty seven.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Interesting, So, and they would typically do a Test Series
- 20:23Speaker 1: in January. But I guess that depends on timing of
- 20:26Speaker 1: what happens next year. Well there's always yeah, there's a
- 20:28Speaker 1: Test Series or there's a camp. So this year they
- 20:31Speaker 1: did a cap and so yeah, And I think what's
- 20:34Speaker 1: interesting is like, and I've been you know, you look
- 20:37Speaker 1: at all the social comments and people saying what about
- 20:40Speaker 1: this person?
- 20:40Speaker 5: What about that person? And you know, over the years,
- 20:43Speaker 5: I've had long conversations with selectors. You know, when I
- 20:46Speaker 5: used to write a newspaper ratical on Monday, so you
- 20:48Speaker 5: had to respond to these things and what sort of
- 20:50Speaker 5: became clear and then you know, more recent conversations I've
- 20:53Speaker 5: had with Stacy Marinkovich is the selectors are really aware
- 20:57Speaker 5: of who's having great seasons. But netball operates in a
- 21:01Speaker 5: four year cycle. So in that four year cycle you've
- 21:04Speaker 5: got Commonwealth Games and World Cup, which we're coming up
- 21:06Speaker 5: to now. So there's been this build of a team
- 21:08Speaker 5: through this process, and yes, they understand that people are
- 21:13Speaker 5: having breakout seasons, but you've got to balance it up
- 21:15Speaker 5: with the team that you have built in your building.
- 21:19Speaker 4: So if you.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Selected purely on who's having the best season, the Australian
- 21:25Speaker 5: team will probably chop and change every year, but that's
- 21:28Speaker 5: not what the selectors are trying to work towards. So
- 21:32Speaker 5: I think there are probably a number of players who
- 21:34Speaker 5: can feel hard done by, But at the end of
- 21:37Speaker 5: the day, the selectors are there's a little bit more
- 21:40Speaker 5: going on than just naming the top twenty players in
- 21:42Speaker 5: super Network. I mean, if you don't do that, you
- 21:44Speaker 5: just get Daryl Milton to pick up with stats, because
- 21:46Speaker 5: there's start to tell you a story, right, So the
- 21:50Speaker 5: selectors are working towards something, and so I think you've
- 21:53Speaker 5: just got to be a bit careful. If you tempted
- 21:55Speaker 5: to get online and you know rubbish a player who
- 21:57Speaker 5: you think shouldn't be there, then just think twice. But also,
- 22:00Speaker 5: I mean I do it's also nice for other players
- 22:03Speaker 5: who didn't make it to see that there's a bit
- 22:04Speaker 5: of love for them. So yeah, it's a touch job
- 22:06Speaker 5: would be selected, I.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Know, and then got to get this eighteen down to twelve.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Yeah, that's bloody hat. I I'm pleased to see Sunday
- 22:16Speaker 3: in because it's like, well, we are hoping that you
- 22:19Speaker 3: will be back in time. I don't understand why that
- 22:23Speaker 3: same consideration wasn't extended to Page. Now got to be honest,
- 22:27Speaker 3: maybe Page ruled herself out. I have absolutely no idea,
- 22:31Speaker 3: But to me, this looks like if I'm thirty years
- 22:36Speaker 3: old and I'm a diamond and I go to have
- 22:38Speaker 3: a baby, and this sport has done an outstanding job
- 22:41Speaker 3: about helping mothers get back on court. It's like that
- 22:45Speaker 3: stops at the diamonds, is what I'm reading from that.
- 22:48Speaker 4: I don't think that's very, very love much she does, does.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I mean, it does look that way, but I'm sure
- 22:53Speaker 1: that's of course that's not what's happening. But she is
- 22:55Speaker 1: older as well. And if you're talking about planning ahead.
- 22:59Speaker 1: The other issue for Paige is that of all the talent,
- 23:02Speaker 1: it's all in the mid court.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yeah it is.
- 23:04Speaker 1: That's who are you going to drop from that mid
- 23:06Speaker 1: court that's still playing. If she was a defender or
- 23:09Speaker 1: a shootero, she'd probably be in there. Like it's it's
- 23:11Speaker 1: just bloody hard. I feel really sad for her as well,
- 23:16Speaker 1: but I guess, you know, these calls have got to
- 23:18Speaker 1: be made thinking ahead to the future.
- 23:21Speaker 3: And I absolutely not, for one moment know what the
- 23:23Speaker 3: solution is to this. So I am just flagging what
- 23:26Speaker 3: my kind of visceral response to that to that was
- 23:29Speaker 3: and as I said, I would never want Stacy Marinkovich
- 23:33Speaker 3: Stacy Marinkovitch's job, which is just as well because I
- 23:35Speaker 3: imagine how hopeless I'd be at it.
- 23:37Speaker 2: But what about the invitees? Quickly?
- 23:39Speaker 1: Interesting bag, it's bad. Grace White not surprised, thought she
- 23:43Speaker 1: would be in the squad, to be honest. Macy Gardner,
- 23:46Speaker 1: interesting call, Charlotte Sexton, Yeah, really interesting call again thinking
- 23:50Speaker 1: ahead and Amy slag Amy's like, yeah, great and very pleased.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I'm very pleased to see, particularly Macy Gardner there. I
- 23:58Speaker 3: think that's a that's a real kind of speculator. Let's
- 24:01Speaker 3: see what happens here. Let's put you into this environment
- 24:04Speaker 3: and see how you go.
- 24:06Speaker 1: So what about two New South Wales players in the
- 24:09Speaker 1: whole squad?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Though? Are out? There were years when it.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Was all the South Wales. Yeah, well no, it's all
- 24:17Speaker 4: Victoria players, right.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Sophie Dwyer.
- 24:19Speaker 1: No, in the squad there's only two Oh yeah, okay, yeah,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I mean there's two extras in the invitees. And in
- 24:25Speaker 1: terms of who can get selected in this Aussie team.
- 24:29Speaker 4: It's interesting, isn't it?
- 24:30Speaker 5: And then the Victorian pathway is the one that's pumping
- 24:32Speaker 5: out sort of squad members at the moment wowing up.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Well, that's interesting.
- 24:38Speaker 3: In our next episode, which will be released on Friday,
- 24:41Speaker 3: I think we have some Victorian conversations to have because
- 24:44Speaker 3: that was interesting on the weekend. So we've got now
- 24:47Speaker 3: twenty including the four invitees. Is that right?
- 24:50Speaker 2: There'll be twenty two including those four invitees. I think
- 24:52Speaker 2: there's eighteen selected in the squad.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Right, and I've got to get down to twelvewelve by
- 24:58Speaker 3: middle of June.
- 24:59Speaker 4: Mid June, I think. And that's all.
- 25:02Speaker 5: It is determined by the Commwalth Games, so when teams
- 25:05Speaker 5: are announced and that sort of stuff.
- 25:06Speaker 4: But I think it'll been mid June.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Excited.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Well, that's very exciting. We will talk about the SUPERNTBW
- 25:14Speaker 3: and obviously the Baland Ribbler's Tipping comp shortly. But yeah,
- 25:18Speaker 3: I think that was it was a really interesting set
- 25:23Speaker 3: of announcements on the weekend. I don't know how they
- 25:25Speaker 3: do that.
- 25:25Speaker 5: So Coxy, I am interested when you look at across
- 25:28Speaker 5: super NETBWL, given that you're a shooter, so I think
- 25:33Speaker 5: the defensive stocks are pretty good. I think there's some
- 25:35Speaker 5: young defenders coming through who are just outstanding. The mid
- 25:37Speaker 5: cort is where we've just had a conversation about how
- 25:40Speaker 5: chock full it is of talent, But it is a
- 25:42Speaker 5: shooting end that you're worry about a bit. So if
- 25:45Speaker 5: you could waive a magic wand what would you do?
- 25:51Speaker 3: I can even give.
- 25:52Speaker 1: You a magic wand oh I know that stuff as well.
- 25:56Speaker 2: That one I had.
- 25:58Speaker 1: This was interesting because I had this conversation with Harper yesterday.
- 26:01Speaker 1: She wants to play goalkeeper gold offense is too hard.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I'm a goalkeeper.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I said no, but I said to her, you've got
- 26:07Speaker 1: to play both. No player in elite netball is one position.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Then the Diamond squad came up on pivot and Danelle
- 26:14Speaker 1: Wallam's got goal shooter. She's the only player. Halfer said,
- 26:17Speaker 1: Schney plays goal shooter And I said, yes, but that
- 26:19Speaker 1: will hold her back. And I think in reference to
- 26:25Speaker 1: what you're saying, I don't know that she will get
- 26:28Speaker 1: selected because it is a tough tournament. When you go
- 26:32Speaker 1: into the you know what it's like, It's like you're
- 26:34Speaker 1: playing every day. You need people to be rotating, you
- 26:37Speaker 1: need fresh legs as much as possible. You've got to
- 26:39Speaker 1: survive to the end when it really matters. I don't
- 26:42Speaker 1: know that you can take a shooter only in a
- 26:46Speaker 1: tournament like that may be more suited to a test
- 26:49Speaker 1: series kind of thing. So looking at that list of shooters,
- 26:54Speaker 1: I think in Pivot they put up the areas of
- 26:56Speaker 1: the court and at the time, I was thinking, he
- 26:58Speaker 1: would be the four from each ear area that I
- 27:00Speaker 1: would pick if that's what they're doing, and I think
- 27:03Speaker 1: I would stick with the ones that were there before.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I'm sure if Sophie Dwyre and whether.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Georgie how Just will be picked on the cusp of
- 27:12Speaker 1: as a winger tape.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Because she was put into the visuals that they had
- 27:17Speaker 3: up on Pivot, she was put down as a mid quarter.
- 27:19Speaker 3: So the Diamond Squad shooter is Kira Austin, Sophie Dwyer,
- 27:22Speaker 3: Sophie Garb and Kara Cone and Danelle Wallom.
- 27:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, but that's like that's a bit more of
- 27:27Speaker 5: a structural thing that we've got to play with here.
- 27:29Speaker 5: We've got to look at here because Super Netball is
- 27:31Speaker 5: unlimited imports, which makes it the best netball league in
- 27:34Speaker 5: the world. But when you look across the teams that
- 27:37Speaker 5: goal shooter position, there's not a lot of Australians playing
- 27:39Speaker 5: in that goal shooting position, right, So what do you do?
- 27:42Speaker 5: Do you leave super netball as unlimited imports and then
- 27:46Speaker 5: do you do something about how do you bring through?
- 27:49Speaker 5: I guess my question is how do you bring through
- 27:50Speaker 5: that next generation of shooters so that we see the
- 27:52Speaker 5: same level of talent and almost a glut of talent
- 27:56Speaker 5: that we see in the defensive stocks in the mid court.
- 27:58Speaker 5: So what do you do about that shooting loan?
- 28:01Speaker 2: Well, I certainly think there's going to be a limit
- 28:04Speaker 2: on imports. I do.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I love them, I love them, and I
- 28:09Speaker 1: love having them playing here. But then there is obviously
- 28:13Speaker 1: the Aussie players that miss out unless you are the
- 28:16Speaker 1: vixens who are really working hard at developing their own
- 28:19Speaker 1: and using their own pathways.
- 28:21Speaker 3: And this is why I was really delighted to see
- 28:22Speaker 3: Macy Gardner get an opportunity, because I think she's been
- 28:26Speaker 3: playing in a team with a lot of imports and
- 28:28Speaker 3: she's not necessarily been able to shine as much. And
- 28:32Speaker 3: let's sort of like, well, let's have a look at her.
- 28:34Speaker 3: And I think that's great. Yeah, I mean three imports
- 28:37Speaker 3: is enough one per area of the court. And I
- 28:39Speaker 3: think that still allows for plenty of excitement, plenty of
- 28:43Speaker 3: I mean, anyway, I'd love to see three inputs. Yeah.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I totally get that it lifts the level of play,
- 28:49Speaker 3: and I totally get that the coaches at super netbal
- 28:52Speaker 3: have to play, have to select to win the super
- 28:54Speaker 3: Netbow comp But I think that there is a balance,
- 28:58Speaker 3: there's a point there.
- 29:00Speaker 2: We need a bigger roster in the teams.
- 29:03Speaker 5: I don't know that three important solves your problem, because
- 29:05Speaker 5: you're still going to get all the great goal she's
- 29:07Speaker 5: for around the world coming.
- 29:08Speaker 1: In two with them taking up a whole goal circle
- 29:11Speaker 1: or whatever else. But it would be brilliant if there
- 29:13Speaker 1: was twelve in every team, and then you can allow
- 29:16Speaker 1: for those juniors a certain number of pathway players to
- 29:19Speaker 1: come through your ranks or whatever it is. But there
- 29:22Speaker 1: is definitely some missing out, like Siff Sandhold.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I've been caring on about her.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I'm desperate to see her on court and play more,
- 29:30Speaker 1: but it's just not happening.
- 29:32Speaker 3: And every time she's been on court, it's been oh
- 29:34Speaker 3: that's exciting. Yeah, yeah, anyway, Yeah, it is interesting. These
- 29:39Speaker 3: are the things we have to grapple with, isn't it. Yeah,
- 29:42Speaker 3: it keets me awake at night.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Sleep like a baby.
- 29:49Speaker 3: We can just bang on about it and very good.
- 29:54Speaker 3: All right, Well, we will talk more about super and
- 29:56Speaker 3: Apple on Friday in our episode than but let's have
- 29:59Speaker 3: a little break. I'm back and talk further.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Else.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Assis standhold is Australian. M hm and where but she
- 30:17Speaker 3: was not? Was she born in Australia? I know she's
- 30:19Speaker 3: an Australian citizen. Where was she born?
- 30:20Speaker 4: She was born in Iceland? Wow, you have her hackles
- 30:24Speaker 4: at right?
- 30:25Speaker 5: And I did read it might have been in one
- 30:27Speaker 5: of the dribblers said, you don't get born in Iceland,
- 30:30Speaker 5: you get forged out of ice and fire.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Oh that's crazy. Put her in a tame somewhere.
- 30:36Speaker 3: You know, Iceland produces an extraordinarily high number of top CrossFit.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Female CrossFit athletes come out of Iceland.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Because they're indoorsy.
- 30:47Speaker 3: They have they really have dominated the sport for a
- 30:50Speaker 3: very long time. They're fantastic to watch.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Wow.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Yeah, you probably got on got on board early because
- 30:55Speaker 3: you can train in a gym, you don't have to
- 30:57Speaker 3: be outside. And the is it feuds? Would they have fuels?
- 31:02Speaker 4: Surely they've got fud.
- 31:03Speaker 3: It would be an Icelandic word for feuds, and I
- 31:05Speaker 3: don't know what that Taking back to my frozen Iceland
- 31:09Speaker 3: Air had a competition recently for people to nominate themselves
- 31:13Speaker 3: as the world's worst photographers. So so their idea is
- 31:16Speaker 3: that Iceland is so beautiful even the world's worst photographer
- 31:19Speaker 3: can capture good imagery of it. One hundred and twenty
- 31:23Speaker 3: seven thousand people from around the world entered this competition
- 31:27Speaker 3: to nominate themselves as the world's worst photographer, so they've
- 31:30Speaker 3: narrowed it down to thirteen.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I think that I'd love to see those photos. Yeah,
- 31:34Speaker 1: I think that was more successful than They're just.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Not focused and all of that stuff upside down. Why
- 31:40Speaker 2: does that look like?
- 31:40Speaker 3: I assume so, But you can also just go I'm
- 31:42Speaker 3: going to go and take a shoot photo now and
- 31:44Speaker 3: oh look at me. So I assume it's a it's
- 31:46Speaker 3: a bit of a crap shoot there that it's like,
- 31:48Speaker 3: did you get your video scene?
- 31:49Speaker 4: Shoot?
- 31:49Speaker 2: I see what you did there?
- 31:51Speaker 3: Oh, thank you very good. So we are we're going
- 31:55Speaker 3: to run out of time shortly, but I need a
- 31:57Speaker 3: couple of talk about a couple of things. On Friday
- 32:00Speaker 3: last week, I contacted ABC Radio again because I know
- 32:04Speaker 3: that makes Catherine nervous when I get on radio to
- 32:06Speaker 3: talk about netball. But when I rang them and said, hey,
- 32:10Speaker 3: we've got a super netball we're at critical round point
- 32:14Speaker 3: of the season. There are still two new South Wales
- 32:16Speaker 3: teams in one has a two percent chance of hitting
- 32:19Speaker 3: the finals. They went, great story, come on and talk
- 32:22Speaker 3: to us about it. And I thought, maybe we as
- 32:25Speaker 3: Dribblers just need to start hijacking the airwaves. So if
- 32:30Speaker 3: there's an opportunity with your local radio station, do wait
- 32:33Speaker 3: for the journalists to get smart enough to pick this up.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Like I know on ABC seven oh two, the Sydney
- 32:39Speaker 3: station that Hamish McDonald has free call Friday, you can
- 32:43Speaker 3: just ring up and say I want to talk about
- 32:45Speaker 3: this today. So wherever there is locally for you with
- 32:48Speaker 3: your local media, let's all the Dribblers start to be
- 32:52Speaker 3: the press officer for the sport of netball and talk
- 32:57Speaker 3: about what's going on at your association of you know,
- 32:59Speaker 3: start feeding these stories because we do often talk about
- 33:03Speaker 3: how we are not getting our share of media, and
- 33:05Speaker 3: it's absolutely true we're not, but particularly in smaller communities
- 33:09Speaker 3: and things, I know that you can send a media
- 33:13Speaker 3: release and it more often gets picked up than it does.
- 33:15Speaker 2: And what did you say.
- 33:17Speaker 3: I talked about there being two New South Wales teams
- 33:20Speaker 3: left in that the Giants young team sixteen year old
- 33:23Speaker 3: had taken the court, still winless this season, real chance
- 33:26Speaker 3: to get behind. That put it in the context of
- 33:29Speaker 3: Saint George Illawara, the rugby league team, having fifteen losses
- 33:33Speaker 3: in a row and they just had their win first
- 33:34Speaker 3: win on the weekend against the Brisbane Broncos. And then
- 33:37Speaker 3: I talked about how the Swifts had still a two
- 33:40Speaker 3: percent chance according to Champion Data, of making it into
- 33:43Speaker 3: the finals, and say, you know, at this point in
- 33:46Speaker 3: the first State of Origin game New South Wales Queensland
- 33:49Speaker 3: last week at fifteen minutes in, people would have said
- 33:52Speaker 3: New South Wales has a two percent chance of winning
- 33:54Speaker 3: this game and then they went on to win it.
- 33:56Speaker 3: So I was trying to make it really local, go
- 34:00Speaker 3: New South Wales because this is obviously the local station.
- 34:04Speaker 3: But you know I talked about talked about mothers being
- 34:07Speaker 3: on court. It was was Facinos's good work.
- 34:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's good and I think you know,
- 34:12Speaker 5: from the administration point of view, there's a whole media
- 34:15Speaker 5: team at clubs and at state level, at the national level.
- 34:19Speaker 5: But sometimes you need these media organizations need to push
- 34:23Speaker 5: from their listeners or their viewers to go, oh ah,
- 34:25Speaker 5: this is the stuff that people want to hear. Well,
- 34:27Speaker 5: oh well, here's We've already got this information. We just
- 34:29Speaker 5: didn't know that there was a need for it. So
- 34:32Speaker 5: I think people power cannot be underestimated.
- 34:34Speaker 3: I agree. I agree. So, speaking of the ABC, I'm
- 34:39Speaker 3: on Grew and Transfer tonight you what are you doing?
- 34:43Speaker 1: Am I still awake?
- 34:44Speaker 3: I believe it's on the third What am I doing?
- 34:46Speaker 5: So?
- 34:46Speaker 3: You know, they get too ad agencies in each week
- 34:49Speaker 3: to do the pitch and they give them faith.
- 34:52Speaker 5: I'm Grew.
- 34:52Speaker 4: I love Will Anderson.
- 34:54Speaker 3: So I'm in one of the ads that one of
- 34:58Speaker 3: the agencies asked me to do an acting job for them.
- 35:01Speaker 3: So I'm in one of the ads for a pitch there.
- 35:03Speaker 3: So I won't tell you anything more about it because
- 35:05Speaker 3: they've done such a clever response to the brief that
- 35:07Speaker 3: if I talk about what the brief is at.
- 35:09Speaker 2: All, it could sort of what time is this.
- 35:12Speaker 3: I don't know, eight o'clock or something.
- 35:13Speaker 2: We just got to set an alarm.
- 35:15Speaker 5: Will you be able to find the ABC?
- 35:18Speaker 1: Catherine I know where it is. If Will Anderson's on it,
- 35:22Speaker 1: I'll find it. I know we love a bit of Will.
- 35:26Speaker 3: How I decided to befriend you too. So you two
- 35:29Speaker 3: were on Triple J once a week?
- 35:32Speaker 4: Was it?
- 35:32Speaker 2: Can we Let's be honest.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Liz Ellis was on Triple J once a week and
- 35:37Speaker 1: would quite often tell stories about me. I was never
- 35:40Speaker 1: on there defending myself. You were right, add stories about
- 35:48Speaker 1: my dating life and whatever else was amusing at the time.
- 35:51Speaker 4: I know it's true. Catherine was never on it. It was me.
- 35:54Speaker 5: I used to do Triple J breakfast Monday morning and
- 35:59Speaker 5: Friday morning with Will Anderson and Adam Spencer, and I said,
- 36:03Speaker 5: I know, I forget that Catherine could hear it.
- 36:05Speaker 4: So he was talking about her.
- 36:07Speaker 1: And I became so notorious. I got invited to the
- 36:09Speaker 1: Christmas party.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Before I did.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Anyways, remembering this, I always thought it was you two,
- 36:17Speaker 3: and I thought I want to be friends with them,
- 36:19Speaker 3: and so I got much.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Well, you just want to be friends with Catherine because
- 36:23Speaker 5: she had all the funny stories about her.
- 36:25Speaker 4: But you know what's amazing.
- 36:26Speaker 5: You know when we traveled around Australia, people would come
- 36:29Speaker 5: to me in regional towns Ago.
- 36:30Speaker 4: I remember you being on.
- 36:31Speaker 5: Triple Ja Breakfast. It's twenty five years ago, but people
- 36:36Speaker 5: still remember. It was such an iconic breakfast show.
- 36:38Speaker 4: It was so much fun.
- 36:39Speaker 3: It was good fun. They did a reunion stage show
- 36:43Speaker 3: last year's part of the comedy Festeral I think Will
- 36:45Speaker 3: and Adam and Adam Spencer was an ambassador for the
- 36:49Speaker 3: Network World Cup in twenty fifteen. When I was working
- 36:52Speaker 3: on the Network World Cup, there was He was always
- 36:54Speaker 3: a great advocate, an early advocate for netball.
- 36:57Speaker 2: He loves women's sports from yeah why not.
- 37:02Speaker 3: We saw someone out at a netball game recently, not
- 37:05Speaker 3: in this city, and it was a guy who's wearing
- 37:07Speaker 3: a shirt that said women's sport Matters, And it's like,
- 37:10Speaker 3: you should probably wear that shirt somewhere else because clearly
- 37:12Speaker 3: you think women's sport matters in that you're here.
- 37:15Speaker 2: So he was just trying to get laid.
- 37:17Speaker 3: That's what I thought. I thought, that's and you know,
- 37:21Speaker 3: when when I was eighteen, nineteen twenty, it totally would
- 37:24Speaker 3: have worked for me. He'd be thrilled to know that
- 37:26Speaker 3: would have worked for me. That's all we got time
- 37:29Speaker 3: for our Grand Final. Eve tickets are on sale we
- 37:32Speaker 3: are already half sold, having only gone on sale last week.
- 37:35Speaker 3: So I get on board that you two don't know
- 37:37Speaker 3: all of the surprises. I'm already organizing for that. Guests
- 37:41Speaker 3: and fun and prizes and good times. It's going to
- 37:45Speaker 3: be a crack up. So and this Friday night we're
- 37:47Speaker 3: in Penrith, which is also going to be sensational. But
- 37:49Speaker 3: you can't play tickets for that anymore. We've had to
- 37:51Speaker 3: close sales. But yeah, that's our Wednesday episode. We will
- 37:56Speaker 3: be back on Friday to talk a whole lot more netball.
- 37:59Speaker 3: My name's Arlen Swindle, I'm.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Catcox, I'm louse Elercia.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Have a good week.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Mm hm
