- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on? Everybody? It's
- 0:15Speaker 1: Jeff Moscher, It's Adam Kaplan and we start to now
- 0:18Speaker 1: enter our defensive depth chart. Intel look at we've been
- 0:22Speaker 1: doing every position.
- 0:24Speaker 2: On the Eagles. We started with offense.
- 0:26Speaker 1: We went through every position on offense last week, and
- 0:29Speaker 1: now we're going to look at the depth chart defensively
- 0:31Speaker 1: and we're gonna start Adam in the most important place
- 0:34Speaker 1: always with the Eagles to start on defense, and that
- 0:36Speaker 1: is the edge rotation, which has undergone quite a bit
- 0:40Speaker 1: of change, especially in the depth and the additions that
- 0:43Speaker 1: they've brought in throughout the off season. And I think
- 0:46Speaker 1: that in general, this is a really fascinating position for
- 0:50Speaker 1: them because of the change not only from adding you guys,
- 0:54Speaker 1: but from Jalen Phillips to now Jonathan Gernard as some
- 0:57Speaker 1: of your A level pass rusher, did you compare compare
- 1:01Speaker 1: them from from what you hear around the league as
- 1:03Speaker 1: far as who's better or who does what better?
- 1:06Speaker 3: Ho would you describe it? Yeah, they're completely different. Grenard's
- 1:08Speaker 3: an upfield, explosure, explosive edge rusher. We'll play the run.
- 1:13Speaker 3: He doesn't have Phillips body, It doesn't a Phillips injury history.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Grenard had at an injury last year which which uh
- 1:23Speaker 3: it forced him miss some time and he wasn't quite
- 1:25Speaker 3: himself and that played into why his sack numbers dropped.
- 1:29Speaker 3: And as I think he said in one of his interviews, uh,
- 1:31Speaker 3: he talked about how there were something they just missed.
- 1:34Speaker 3: It happens. He's so how do they How does the
- 1:36Speaker 3: leagues feel about him? Explosive, does everything well, superior leader,
- 1:42Speaker 3: Like this guy is just an all time great dude,
- 1:45Speaker 3: does everything you ask. Was a great story development from
- 1:48Speaker 3: the Texans with the Texans and he continued with the
- 1:50Speaker 3: Vikings and he just does. He's what you want in
- 1:55Speaker 3: an edge rusher and he's just he's an explosive edge
- 1:59Speaker 3: rusher on the he gets there very very quickly, Like
- 2:03Speaker 3: his first step is really really good. He just doesn't
- 2:06Speaker 3: have the body of Jalen Phillips. Is like if you said, okay,
- 2:10Speaker 3: what do you want and edge drushers to look like
- 2:12Speaker 3: that guy, like that's you don't find guys built out
- 2:16Speaker 3: of granite. He just built like that.
- 2:17Speaker 2: But no, he's muscular. Yeah, it does everything.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't look the Vikings kind of got over
- 2:24Speaker 3: on Grenard on the first one. I mean, he did
- 2:27Speaker 3: an undervalued deal. He outplayed it, and you know he
- 2:32Speaker 3: I don't know if he Hadrew Rosenhels in the beginning,
- 2:34Speaker 3: but I know he had Rosenels on this this last
- 2:36Speaker 3: deal which he got, he got extenched with Eagles, and
- 2:39Speaker 3: Drew got him the first two years full of guaranteed,
- 2:41Speaker 3: this year and one more, which is fine. It's typical
- 2:43Speaker 3: standard operating procedure. Teams typically don't, particularly after a trade
- 2:48Speaker 3: guarantee three years. But there's no reason to think that
- 2:51Speaker 3: he won't be really, really good for old schoolers are
- 2:54Speaker 3: stuck in the eighties. If you're just going by sack numbers,
- 2:56Speaker 3: well good luck to you. That's not the way teams evaluate.
- 2:59Speaker 3: It's not even as to the way they evaluate pressure
- 3:02Speaker 3: rate tape, pressure rate tape. Sure, you love, you love
- 3:08Speaker 3: double digit sacks, but remember sacks are literally individual plays,
- 3:13Speaker 3: individual plays. So if a guy had eight sacks, what
- 3:17Speaker 3: did he do on the rest of his snaps of
- 3:19Speaker 3: the naughty to one hundred and twenty snaps? Yep, maybe
- 3:22Speaker 3: more than maybe into it whatever they whatever he had,
- 3:23Speaker 3: So you have to kind of know that, Yeah, from
- 3:26Speaker 3: what we were just finish this part on Grenard was
- 3:30Speaker 3: told that the tape was fine. It wasn't bad. He
- 3:32Speaker 3: missed out on some sacks. Pressure rate was fine for
- 3:36Speaker 3: what he was doing. He's dealing with alickering shoulder problem,
- 3:39Speaker 3: which he got taken care of, and you know he's Uh.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I just I have a hard time believing he won't
- 3:46Speaker 3: be really good. Yeah, this is a little bit the
- 3:49Speaker 3: Fangio defense is not every thirty four fronts the same.
- 3:53Speaker 3: When your responsibilities are you know, he's gonna have to
- 3:55Speaker 3: drop in coverage. That's what Vic does. It's not like
- 3:57Speaker 3: Florest has never done this before. And he played in
- 4:02Speaker 3: a forty three front. I'd have to look. I know,
- 4:04Speaker 3: at times they were thirty four in Houston, then they
- 4:07Speaker 3: changed to forty three and mcka ryans, right, he's just
- 4:11Speaker 3: a really good player who the Vikings just could not agree.
- 4:15Speaker 3: They did not want to go they didn't want to
- 4:17Speaker 3: go super high. And by the way, the Vikings are
- 4:19Speaker 3: not a super high cash spend team. They're not like
- 4:22Speaker 3: the Eagles in cash ban which is very important. Right.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I remember when he came to the Vikings, it was
- 4:27Speaker 1: one of the weirder Oh, it was almost like a
- 4:29Speaker 1: trade involving no picks, and that wasn't agreed upon because
- 4:32Speaker 1: they signed Jonathan Gernard from the Texans, and the Texans
- 4:35Speaker 1: wound up signing d Neil Hunter right from the Vikers.
- 4:38Speaker 1: They were both free.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Agents, if I'm not mistaken.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So yeah, it was weird how they both kind of
- 4:43Speaker 1: just exchanged uniforms there.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Hunter, by the way, boy, what a story development he was. Hey,
- 4:51Speaker 3: he got taken care of like the Texans. He did
- 4:53Speaker 3: his deal and he out played it. He's great player,
- 4:56Speaker 3: phenomenal football player. So where do you want to go next?
- 5:00Speaker 2: Well, I'm just looking.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I think when we're comparing last year to this year,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you've got really good speed. Let's start with just the
- 5:07Speaker 1: starters or the starting rotation. VIC plays a three man rotation.
- 5:11Speaker 1: We know it's going to be Jaylex Hunt, Jonathan Gernard,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and Nolan Smith in some capacity. If you're first down Edges,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I mean, I would think they're going to be Gernard
- 5:22Speaker 1: and Nolan Smith because Nolan Smith's a better run defender
- 5:25Speaker 1: more so than a pass rusher. And then Jalax Hunt
- 5:27Speaker 1: comes off. But I think Jax Hunt Adam in year
- 5:30Speaker 1: three has an opportunity this year to maybe have gotten
- 5:33Speaker 1: a little bit stronger, more experienced, and establish himself in
- 5:37Speaker 1: camp and then summer training camp as someone maybe who
- 5:41Speaker 1: plays the run. It's not like he's bad against the runner.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Yeah exactly.
- 5:44Speaker 1: You just know that Nolan Smith is really good against it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: But Hunt could do himself some services by saying, hey,
- 5:49Speaker 1: I'm a really good run defender too.
- 5:51Speaker 3: It's really funny. This offensive line coach I know said
- 5:54Speaker 3: to me over the years when his team went against
- 5:56Speaker 3: the Eagles, said, Noel Smith, watch your knees when he
- 6:01Speaker 3: when when he's coming in the game, because he he
- 6:03Speaker 3: does tend to go a little bit low, but he
- 6:06Speaker 3: is a I don't know if we even knew this.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I actually have off to ask grec O Selliz. Was
- 6:11Speaker 3: Nolan Smith a good runner freend in Georgia? I don't
- 6:12Speaker 3: remember that.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Well, you do remember they felt he had off ball
- 6:17Speaker 1: linebacker capabilities because I brought that up. He was a
- 6:20Speaker 1: good downhill player. Yeah, they thought he would translate well.
- 6:23Speaker 3: But this will I mean, but he's at times exceptional
- 6:25Speaker 3: at it. He just has a feel for it. But
- 6:28Speaker 3: they needn't get pressure on the quarterback. Jaleax Son is
- 6:32Speaker 3: jalxn Over the final your final half of last season.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Boy did he come on us a pass rusher. Here's
- 6:39Speaker 3: singing and coaching. He left us wanting more, but in
- 6:41Speaker 3: a good way. It's like a tease. You go, wow,
- 6:44Speaker 3: we need to see what it's too bad the season
- 6:45Speaker 3: en and we want to see more of this guy.
- 6:47Speaker 3: So you're going to see that it's between Smith and
- 6:50Speaker 3: Hunt for that that role opposite Grenard, and we'll see
- 6:53Speaker 3: how it works out. My money would be on Hunt. Yes,
- 6:56Speaker 3: Smith got his fifth year option rolled over. But the
- 7:01Speaker 3: bottom line is, folks, Vic Fanger does not care about that.
- 7:03Speaker 3: He cares about who's going to give them the best
- 7:04Speaker 3: chance to perform. Well. He literally couldn't care less about contracts,
- 7:08Speaker 3: doesn't He doesn't have come to any pressure, not that
- 7:11Speaker 3: how he's putting it on him. But I know Vic
- 7:14Speaker 3: kind of sat under his breath a couple of times
- 7:16Speaker 3: about some issues in Denver with the front office. He
- 7:18Speaker 3: didn't really explain it. He's got his opinions. He's very
- 7:22Speaker 3: strong willed, and this guy's a hall of fame uh coach.
- 7:27Speaker 3: In fact, I would not surprise you've made the Hall
- 7:29Speaker 3: of Fame someday. He is exceptional. He really is and
- 7:33Speaker 3: on your point, like, so what they'll do is they'll
- 7:34Speaker 3: dress four, but it only played three. So let's and
- 7:37Speaker 3: I know we've talked about this a couple of times,
- 7:39Speaker 3: but let's expand on it now that got his contract.
- 7:41Speaker 3: So okay, this is interesting because, uh, they were on
- 7:46Speaker 3: as we understand it, they're on Gernard like six weeks
- 7:50Speaker 3: if not before the trade. So it's not.
- 7:56Speaker 4: You know, at what point at one point did they
- 8:00Speaker 4: not think like like bringing Arnold Abaquetti in right, they
- 8:05Speaker 4: had to they like paying him four point three million
- 8:09Speaker 4: and they guaranteed.
- 8:09Speaker 3: All of it. It's not starting money, but that's really
- 8:12Speaker 3: good backup money. That's your third guy, Like, that's your
- 8:15Speaker 3: third guy. Well they have three now that they got right, Like,
- 8:19Speaker 3: so you brought this up rightly.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Like what things have to give?
- 8:23Speaker 3: Right?
- 8:24Speaker 1: Like, either Vick's gonna expand this thing out to a
- 8:26Speaker 1: four man rotation, which we have not seen evidence of,
- 8:29Speaker 1: or maybe it just kind of makes some roster decisions
- 8:32Speaker 1: for Howie as far as trading a guy who you
- 8:34Speaker 1: wouldn't expect to get traded at.
- 8:36Speaker 3: This or or with BG not in the picture in Nickel,
- 8:42Speaker 3: do they do they cross train anyone it wouldn't be
- 8:46Speaker 3: Nolan Smith jokes Hunt might be big enough to do it.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Do they do? They cross train Hunt to play inside
- 8:52Speaker 3: a nickel mm hmm, you know, just to get you
- 8:55Speaker 3: get because you're gonna want to get You're gonna want
- 8:59Speaker 3: to get Catty least rotating in because four point three
- 9:03Speaker 3: millions a lot of money forgotten not to play. Yeah, okay,
- 9:07Speaker 3: and now they really didn't they really didn't need to
- 9:10Speaker 3: do this, but they did it anyway. Uh. They they
- 9:14Speaker 3: brought in yet another edge rusher, so jege t Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:21Speaker 3: So he's making the veteran minimum from his for his
- 9:23Speaker 3: years of service one point four h two million. Uh,
- 9:27Speaker 3: the guarantee just an half of it, sixth and sixty
- 9:30Speaker 3: two point five not a lot of money. He certainly
- 9:33Speaker 3: is gonna have to He's gonna have to earn it
- 9:35Speaker 3: to get on the roster. That's not enough to keep
- 9:36Speaker 3: him on the roster.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:38Speaker 3: So the good thing is depth. The quality of depth
- 9:41Speaker 3: is good. Like as we've said for years now, depth
- 9:44Speaker 3: thought about how many players you have. It's about the
- 9:45Speaker 3: quality of the player. The quality looks pretty good. And
- 9:48Speaker 3: then they've got Keishaan James Newby. He's a major, major, major,
- 9:51Speaker 3: long shot to make the team. I don't see how
- 9:53Speaker 3: he makes it. He and Joshua Ruh who's an un
- 9:56Speaker 3: director free agent. The he's from Nigeria, isn't he?
- 10:02Speaker 2: No, he's from Kenya. War Bernard is the guy from
- 10:05Speaker 2: right right.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Right, right right, and he and and and and this
- 10:08Speaker 3: kid is the rugby player. Yes.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Uh.
- 10:12Speaker 3: And remember he didn't he didn't get the pathway designation. Uh,
- 10:17Speaker 3: so they could just caught him. And if he's not claiming,
- 10:20Speaker 3: he goes to the practice squad, so we'll see. But
- 10:23Speaker 3: Jose Ramier is also there, so they have a lot
- 10:26Speaker 3: of guys. To me, at most they'll keep five there.
- 10:32Speaker 3: They're gonna have such a numbers problem. Yeah, elsewhere on
- 10:36Speaker 3: the offensive line, especially yep that it's just I don't
- 10:40Speaker 3: see a path that everybody's healthy for try on shanking
- 10:43Speaker 3: and make it. I just don't.
- 10:44Speaker 1: No, I don't either. And I also see an issue
- 10:48Speaker 1: developing at the bottom of the roster with edge rotation
- 10:51Speaker 1: that we'll get to in a second. And we haven't
- 10:54Speaker 1: even really discussed what happens if Brandon Graham does decide
- 10:58Speaker 1: he wants to play. If he wants to play, he's playing,
- 11:00Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it. Vic loves him, Vic will
- 11:02Speaker 1: play him, and sure he can move Brandon inside, but
- 11:06Speaker 1: that's still a body at that position. It's still an
- 11:09Speaker 1: edge rush. Rotation would then include that would make it
- 11:12Speaker 1: even tougher for guys like Epichetty to get snapped, Shrinka
- 11:17Speaker 1: to Troyon tryon shrinking to make the team, and then
- 11:20Speaker 1: just overall, Actually, I'll get to it now. The Eagles,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I believe, for the last four years for a while,
- 11:26Speaker 1: have used a fifth edge rusher because he's been a
- 11:29Speaker 1: very good special teamer. Not as an edge rusher we're
- 11:32Speaker 1: talking about Patrick Johnson. We're talking about somebody else who
- 11:35Speaker 1: had it last year when Patrick or when Patrick was
- 11:38Speaker 1: gon I forget who, but they've always had an extra
- 11:41Speaker 1: edge guy who has been a good special teamer. If
- 11:43Speaker 1: you're keeping the top three that we talked about of
- 11:46Speaker 1: Nolan Smith and Jaelex Hunt and Grenard of course, and
- 11:49Speaker 1: Ebiketty is four, then right, so Brandon Graham five are you?
- 11:56Speaker 1: None of those guys are special teamers, so you're gonna
- 11:58Speaker 1: have to make up that special team means deficiency somewhere else,
- 12:01Speaker 1: which means maybe you keep two extra off ball linebacks.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I don't know what it is, but it goes back
- 12:06Speaker 1: to your point. How do you go heavier at other positions?
- 12:10Speaker 1: If you're keeping four quarterbacks and eleven offensive linemen, like,
- 12:13Speaker 1: you're gonna have to go thin somewhere and things have
- 12:15Speaker 1: to make sense.
- 12:16Speaker 2: You have to have a good special teams. They have
- 12:19Speaker 2: the rams.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I mean, remember as we talked about the Quarterback Show
- 12:21Speaker 3: exactly Quarterback Show, they've got four. Okay, they've have four.
- 12:25Speaker 3: You can't keep everybody. I after I listened to Andrews
- 12:29Speaker 3: show last week, I want to see how much I
- 12:30Speaker 3: agree or whatever it was. He didn't. I think two parts,
- 12:34Speaker 3: but I mean I I I spent ten minutes on it,
- 12:38Speaker 3: just having a little fun. I couldn't get under sixty.
- 12:42Speaker 3: I just they have so many players that would make
- 12:44Speaker 3: sense for them to want to keep right. It's just
- 12:47Speaker 3: it's tough.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So as we how about this. I did one for
- 12:50Speaker 2: a Philly Voice.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I did a way too and what I wound up
- 12:53Speaker 1: doing just for fun and to be creative. We'll do
- 12:56Speaker 1: one here, but also to put some thought into it.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I don't just you know me, I wouldn't just write
- 13:01Speaker 1: something at stupid, but I had that at the time,
- 13:04Speaker 1: they don't have They didn't have a long snapper. They
- 13:06Speaker 1: wound up signing Rocco Underwood. He's a free we'll see
- 13:09Speaker 1: if he makes a team. But you could, theoretically, if
- 13:11Speaker 1: you really wanted to, and I think the Eagles are
- 13:13Speaker 1: getting toward being this type of team anyway, you could
- 13:16Speaker 1: go into the year without a long snapper on your
- 13:18Speaker 1: fifty three and have them for the first three weeks
- 13:21Speaker 1: just be a practice squad quality.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Did that last year? Right?
- 13:23Speaker 2: With you do that? I think it was with was
- 13:25Speaker 2: it feel it?
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 13:28Speaker 3: Which because I remember it was like Tuesday, We're like, okay,
- 13:31Speaker 3: what are they doing? Yeah? And then we figured it out.
- 13:34Speaker 3: We go, wow, that's actually really smart.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Yep.
- 13:38Speaker 3: It's just it's just being really creative finding some way
- 13:41Speaker 3: not to waste a roster spot until game day, right,
- 13:44Speaker 3: you know? And that that was the craziness. I forget
- 13:46Speaker 3: which practice squad guy. He'd get there Monday, he'd be gone,
- 13:49Speaker 3: wednesday'd be back for like, just the craziness of the
- 13:52Speaker 3: practice squad tango as we've called it for nine years.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yep.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I think you're gonna see h no matter what, depending
- 13:58Speaker 1: on how if they do what we think they're gonna
- 14:00Speaker 1: do is just go heavier than normal at some unconventional
- 14:03Speaker 1: spots like QB and O line. You're gonna see on
- 14:06Speaker 1: game day, you're gonna see elevations used for special teams
- 14:09Speaker 1: more so than often, and inactives players who probably could play,
- 14:13Speaker 1: but they're gonna need special teams contributors. So you're gonna
- 14:17Speaker 1: see active guys who are bottom roster guys who will
- 14:19Speaker 1: not see a snap of offense or defense, but they'll
- 14:23Speaker 1: be out there on special teams.
- 14:24Speaker 2: It's all gonna be fascinating.
- 14:25Speaker 3: One more thing to add. So for those of you
- 14:28Speaker 3: thinking Joha Campbell will play Edge, think again. There's just
- 14:30Speaker 3: really no reason to do it. Yeah, where there's none.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I hadn't even thought about this until I was taking
- 14:36Speaker 3: some notes about down in distance and situational football for
- 14:41Speaker 3: their their Edge group. We talked about Smith potentially on
- 14:45Speaker 3: bass downs and Nickel Ebikehetti because that's really what he
- 14:50Speaker 3: was with Atlanta, and then Hunt, to me, Hunts got
- 14:58Speaker 3: way more upside than Smith does. He just doesn't play
- 15:01Speaker 3: the runs well as Smith. So maybe in Nickel Hunt
- 15:06Speaker 3: and Epicatty or any any obvious pass rushdown, maybe Epicetty
- 15:09Speaker 3: and Hunt split it. Maybe Hunt if they feel like
- 15:13Speaker 3: he's good enough to play bass. He's got the length
- 15:16Speaker 3: to cut into Smith's role on base down. So there's
- 15:19Speaker 3: a lot of possibility. That's the cool thing about this.
- 15:22Speaker 3: It's situationally, they have a lot of possibilities which they
- 15:25Speaker 3: haven't really had, right And Grenard's and every down player
- 15:28Speaker 3: like he's. He's shown to be competitive against the run,
- 15:33Speaker 3: and he's so explosive. If he does play all seventeen
- 15:38Speaker 3: games plus playoffs, I'm really curious about what his numbers
- 15:41Speaker 3: will look like. I'd be stunned if he doesn't have
- 15:43Speaker 3: double digit sacks.
- 15:45Speaker 1: So last year, to go back to the original discussion, right,
- 15:48Speaker 1: last year, Jalen Phillips had a pass rush win rate
- 15:53Speaker 1: of I have it right in front of a fifteen
- 15:56Speaker 1: point nine. Okay, that's pretty good. The top you were
- 16:00Speaker 1: like Parsons and Benito at twenty, and then Miles Garrett
- 16:03Speaker 1: was around eighteen, Thenmber and then the next best are
- 16:05Speaker 1: in that fifteen to seventeen range. All right in twenty
- 16:08Speaker 1: twenty four, because remember Grenard was hurt last year, so
- 16:11Speaker 1: I'm going back to his last year twenty twenty four,
- 16:15Speaker 1: it was pretty good, but it was like thirteen point
- 16:17Speaker 1: eight not as uh, you know, it's still good, but
- 16:20Speaker 1: not maybe as good as Phillips last year, but still good.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Thirteen I'm sorry, thirteen point four was what he was
- 16:28Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four. So interesting. I do think that
- 16:33Speaker 1: there's something to be said about concerns about lightness on
- 16:36Speaker 1: the edges if you.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Have he's not a wide body.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Yet, yeah, ebicquety. So we said we would talk about that.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I mean to go inside the situation. Would it surprise
- 16:48Speaker 1: me if there is a trade by the end of
- 16:50Speaker 1: camp to make room? Oh yeah, I mean, honestly, special
- 16:57Speaker 1: Nolan Smith the guy you think that would be the
- 16:59Speaker 1: one because he's up on three years and.
- 17:01Speaker 3: It's gonna be hard. I don't have it's because remember
- 17:04Speaker 3: they've guaranteed fully guaranteed twenty seven.
- 17:07Speaker 1: That's right.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Yeah, So that's it's it's hard. He's not that good
- 17:11Speaker 3: of a pass rusher. He two years ago, he really
- 17:13Speaker 3: came on and then of course the injury and then
- 17:16Speaker 3: re injury and he and it's a it's kind of
- 17:20Speaker 3: a quagmire because you know, like he really came on
- 17:24Speaker 3: as a pass rusher and then we haven't seen him
- 17:27Speaker 3: be healthy at a long time.
- 17:30Speaker 1: That might be more of the issue is that it
- 17:31Speaker 1: was hard for him last year coming off the triceps
- 17:36Speaker 1: to really But he's such a good run defender, you
- 17:39Speaker 1: would think that the pass rushing would be fine. He's
- 17:43Speaker 1: like an incomplete puzzle to me. Like I I still
- 17:45Speaker 1: think that there's we saw so much improvement two years
- 17:48Speaker 1: ago that if he does stay healthy and puts together
- 17:51Speaker 1: consistent number of reps, I can see him getting back
- 17:53Speaker 1: to being an improving pass rusher and a real good
- 17:57Speaker 1: significant add to that three man rotation. But then they
- 17:59Speaker 1: went out and made these moves for a reason too.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Yeah, you have to understand if they want up entertaining
- 18:04Speaker 3: at the trade deadline, trading Nolan Smith or whenever it is,
- 18:09Speaker 3: you know they're guaranteeing like that. You have to believe
- 18:12Speaker 3: if you're trading for him, he's your trading for him
- 18:14Speaker 3: because because you know he's going to be in your
- 18:16Speaker 3: roster in twenty seven. You trading for him because you
- 18:18Speaker 3: believe he's going to be a starterre This is not okay,
- 18:21Speaker 3: well we need depth. No, you're not doing that. You're
- 18:23Speaker 3: not giving up. I think it's I don't know the
- 18:24Speaker 3: total SID. I think it's around fourteen million for twenty seven.
- 18:27Speaker 3: That's slow and starter money. He got's a starter, Like
- 18:30Speaker 3: if you're trading for him, he's a starter, So I
- 18:32Speaker 3: don't he hasn't shown that like he's he hasn't shown
- 18:35Speaker 3: it for a full season yet. It's he have to
- 18:38Speaker 3: put it together. But the good thing is to move
- 18:40Speaker 3: this along here. They've got tremendous depth. Ebic Kenny is
- 18:43Speaker 3: a really good third edge. He's not a starting quality player.
- 18:46Speaker 3: He's a third guy. Correct Grenard and clubs will they'll
- 18:50Speaker 3: tell you by tape he's more explosive than maybe he's
- 18:54Speaker 3: been given credit four times in his career. The tape
- 18:56Speaker 3: is his first step for his first step quickness. Even
- 19:00Speaker 3: if he doesn't get what's called a QR by the
- 19:03Speaker 3: line coaches I've talked to, they call quality rush it.
- 19:06Speaker 3: They don't always agree with the stat services about what
- 19:09Speaker 3: a win rate is. Because grec O Seals pointed this out.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Watch the tape. He goes, that's not that guy. He
- 19:16Speaker 3: didn't win there he can because he goes that guy
- 19:19Speaker 3: was three yards. He goes, they're basically giving him credit.
- 19:23Speaker 3: The guy's three yards away, like what is the determination
- 19:28Speaker 3: of what a win? Did the guy win on? There?
- 19:30Speaker 3: He goes, I don't think he doesn't agree Greg to
- 19:32Speaker 3: talk about He doesn't always agree, and coaches I've spoke
- 19:34Speaker 3: with don't always agree. It's it's tape first. Then you
- 19:37Speaker 3: match it up with the stat services and you see
- 19:40Speaker 3: whether you agree or not. But as coaches will tell you,
- 19:44Speaker 3: the stats services are really valuable for what your eyes
- 19:46Speaker 3: can't measure, which you just can't add up. You don't
- 19:49Speaker 3: have time to do it, you know, mm hmm, because
- 19:52Speaker 3: you could give interns or quality control coaches this stuff,
- 19:55Speaker 3: but they don't have your eyes.
- 19:57Speaker 1: All right, everybody, just a quick break to remind you
- 20:00Speaker 1: you haven't noticed sun's coming out. It's getting warmer, especially
- 20:04Speaker 1: where we are in the Northeast. That reminds you that
- 20:07Speaker 1: summer's right around the corner. And with late spring and
- 20:10Speaker 1: summer come a ton of activities. I know, for me,
- 20:13Speaker 1: and I'm sure just like everybody else. You know, my
- 20:15Speaker 1: kids play softball, I'm at tournaments every weekend, and then
- 20:19Speaker 1: there's gonna be barbecues. And I actually turn fifty the
- 20:23Speaker 1: Big five oh this year, along with many of my friends,
- 20:25Speaker 1: So I know there's gonna be a lot of fiftieth
- 20:27Speaker 1: birthday parties. And look, I know that at these parties,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna have a few drinks. I'm gonna want to
- 20:33Speaker 1: have fun with my friends. And now that I'm fifty,
- 20:36Speaker 1: we're going to be fifty. I know that I just
- 20:39Speaker 1: don't feel as great the next day, even if I
- 20:42Speaker 1: just have a few drinks the night before. So I
- 20:46Speaker 1: tried this new product called Cheers Restore. Okay, it restores
- 20:51Speaker 1: how you feel the next morning. You take it after
- 20:56Speaker 1: your last drink before bed. It works while you sleep,
- 21:00Speaker 1: and their claim to fame is that you feel fifty
- 21:03Speaker 1: percent better the next morning or your money back. So basically,
- 21:07Speaker 1: if you have seven or eight beers throughout a barbecue,
- 21:11Speaker 1: then the next day you may feel like you only
- 21:14Speaker 1: had three or four. So basically, Cheers Restore helps you
- 21:18Speaker 1: metabolize alcohol more efficiently and it supports overall liver health.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Most people think that when you drink, you get dehydrated
- 21:26Speaker 1: and that's why you don't feel great the next day.
- 21:28Speaker 1: The real issue is actually what happens in your brain
- 21:32Speaker 1: and liver while you're sleeping. So when the alcohol leaves
- 21:34Speaker 1: your system, your brain goes into this rebound mode, and
- 21:38Speaker 1: that's what makes you feel bad. The DHM and Cheers
- 21:40Speaker 1: works while you sleep to smooth out that rebound, and
- 21:43Speaker 1: at the same time, the alcohol converts into a toxic
- 21:47Speaker 1: byproduct that your liver has to clear out. The seis
- 21:50Speaker 1: Steine and Cheers helps speed that up. It's backed by doctors,
- 21:53Speaker 1: PhDs and over one thousand verified clinicians. They've sold over
- 21:58Speaker 1: fifty million doses. This is also available in thirty thousand
- 22:02Speaker 1: retail locations that includes Target, CBS and Walgreens. So take Cheers,
- 22:06Speaker 1: restore after your last drink or before going to bed,
- 22:09Speaker 1: and wake up feeling at least fifty percent better, or
- 22:13Speaker 1: your money back. For a limited time, our listeners are
- 22:15Speaker 1: getting twenty percent off their entire order by using the
- 22:18Speaker 1: code Birds BRDS at Cheershealth dot com. So just head

- 22:31Speaker 1: Show Inside the Birds and tell them Inside the Birds
- 22:34Speaker 1: send them to you. Hey, Philly fans, game day is

- 23:26Speaker 1: Cammed Inn Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices, and an
- 23:31Speaker 1: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up to
- 23:35Speaker 1: me to finish it off. I think hunts the big
- 23:37Speaker 1: X factor for this group. If he makes the kind
- 23:40Speaker 1: of leap in year three that he made from year
- 23:42Speaker 1: one to year two, then you got yourself an excellent
- 23:45Speaker 1: player and a real fearsome edge rush. Because you have
- 23:48Speaker 1: more than you have a lot of guys to worry
- 23:50Speaker 1: about Grenard's got to be able to Now that is
- 23:53Speaker 1: sort of depending on this Grenard can can he get
- 23:57Speaker 1: the offense to put an extra blocker there, like a
- 23:59Speaker 1: tight end or the running back kept in to keep
- 24:03Speaker 1: Hunt one on one against the right tackle, because that's
- 24:06Speaker 1: really where he flourished last years after Jalen Phillips came along,
- 24:10Speaker 1: is that he could a lot of right tackles are
- 24:12Speaker 1: a little bit more long arm but slower, and Hunt
- 24:15Speaker 1: is fast and he's got a great body size that
- 24:17Speaker 1: he grew into, so he was able to fight off
- 24:19Speaker 1: some tackles and really make life miserable.
- 24:22Speaker 2: For them and get to the quarterback.
- 24:23Speaker 1: If he can continue that and not have to get chipped,
- 24:26Speaker 1: not have to get any obstruction on the way to
- 24:27Speaker 1: the quarterback, he could be really good. Plus we already
- 24:30Speaker 1: seen Adam with those that safety background that he had
- 24:34Speaker 1: when he drops in the coverage ranging how athletic. He
- 24:37Speaker 1: led the team last year in interceptions and sacks, which
- 24:40Speaker 1: is almost unfathomable for any player, let alone a second
- 24:43Speaker 1: year play. So to me, the sky is the limit, right,
- 24:46Speaker 1: And if he really takes another jump, if he is
- 24:49Speaker 1: a student of the game, if he refines his pass rush.
- 24:53Speaker 2: You can get yourself.
- 24:54Speaker 1: If he makes himself into a Pro Bowl caliber edd rusher,
- 24:57Speaker 1: Oh god, really.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Dangerous that if that happens. I'm not doubting it. I'm
- 25:02Speaker 3: not doubting it. I mean, he he's what you love
- 25:05Speaker 3: is the progression made a big jump last year, and
- 25:08Speaker 3: like I said, he leaves you wanting more in a
- 25:10Speaker 3: good way. Like it's it's you go wow. And he's
- 25:13Speaker 3: got just to finish this off with hunt six three
- 25:18Speaker 3: and three quarters at the combine two fifty two. The
- 25:21Speaker 3: length is phenomenal, thirty four and three eighth inch, arms
- 25:24Speaker 3: just under thirty five, wingspan eighty two and three quarters.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Great Handsey's good at ten he benched nineteen, not bad.
- 25:32Speaker 3: His ten yard split was fantastic, one to six. Vert
- 25:37Speaker 3: was thirty seven and a half. And I remember, you
- 25:41Speaker 3: know I mentioned this before, like this, this intrusser coach
- 25:45Speaker 3: I know from an AFC team told me he begged
- 25:49Speaker 3: his GM to draft him the third because we've got
- 25:51Speaker 3: to take him here before anyone else gets him. He
- 25:54Speaker 3: did mention to me that he'd loved the safety background,
- 25:58Speaker 3: his ability to diagnose, and he said, absolutely, it's a
- 26:01Speaker 3: factor when you great him because you're taking what he's
- 26:04Speaker 3: very well as a pass thrusher, but the other extra benefits.
- 26:08Speaker 3: And here we are like this is and Jeremia Washburn
- 26:12Speaker 3: give him credit. You know, we've had questions about him
- 26:14Speaker 3: over the years, but he's he's really learned, you know,
- 26:18Speaker 3: over the years, because don't forget he's to be an
- 26:20Speaker 3: O line coach like his father. Yep, and he's done
- 26:23Speaker 3: a really good job of developing these guys.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Think about what you said about Hunt's arm length. It's
- 26:26Speaker 1: thirty five inches that you.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Said thirty four and three eights.
- 26:29Speaker 1: So pretty close to thirty five. The reason tackles play
- 26:32Speaker 1: right tackle, most of them, not all, not Lane Johnson
- 26:35Speaker 1: for sure, is because they don't have the long They
- 26:37Speaker 1: have thirty five inch arms or shorter, and they're a
- 26:41Speaker 1: little bit typically less mobile than the left tackle. So
- 26:44Speaker 1: you're giving Jylex Hunt the ability to match arm length
- 26:47Speaker 1: with the tackle he can get his hands, and then
- 26:50Speaker 1: he's going to be a lot faster, a lot more
- 26:52Speaker 1: athletic than most of the right tackles that he's going again,
- 26:55Speaker 1: so it should be a really really interesting year three
- 26:57Speaker 1: for him, and this rotation could be something as long
- 27:01Speaker 1: as it stays healthy and continues to make progress.
- 27:04Speaker 2: That's a that's a good look at the ed rotation.
- 27:06Speaker 3: It's different, this is a different ago.
- 27:09Speaker 1: We would have thought Grenard Hunt and Arnold Basketty would
- 27:12Speaker 1: be a part of this edge rotation.
- 27:14Speaker 3: But I know since Nick Sirianny has gotten here, this
- 27:19Speaker 3: is by far the most questions on both sides of
- 27:21Speaker 3: the football.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I mean, it's oh yeah.
- 27:24Speaker 3: The next show, d Tackle is kind of clean. Also
- 27:27Speaker 3: the same guys, but most positions have upheaval depth issue. Well,
- 27:32Speaker 3: looks like death might be better, but they're not sure.
- 27:35Speaker 3: They have to play. They have to work out once
- 27:36Speaker 3: the veterans get in the clock runs. Yeah, it's actually good.
- 27:40Speaker 3: It's actually good that there's a lot of mystery.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Awesome, all right, there is no more mystery this show.
- 27:45Speaker 1: We just gave you all the intel, and that is
- 27:47Speaker 1: the look at the depth the starters and the depth
- 27:51Speaker 1: of the Eagles edge rush. In our next episode, we'll
- 27:54Speaker 1: get inside the interior of the Eagles defensive line and
- 27:58Speaker 1: talk about DT's three eyes, four eyes, whatever you want
- 28:01Speaker 1: to call them, zeros. We'll get inside that. That's gonna
- 28:03Speaker 1: do it for this episode of Inside the Birds, The
- 28:05Speaker 1: Leading Podcast it Eagles Intel, and as always, we thank
