Peace over plenty. Have you ever walked into a room

that looked perfect on the outside?

Nice home, great food, everyone dressed well.

But underneath all of that there was tension, drama, and

conflict. Like you could feel it the

moment you walked through the door.

Yes, most of us have been there. And here's what's interesting.

The Bible has something to say about exactly that.

Proverbs chapter 17 verse one says better is a dry morsel with

quiet than a house full of feasting with strife.

In other words, a simple life with peace beats a fancy life

full of fighting every single time.

And honestly, that hits different when you think about

how much energy we spend chasing the things that are supposed to

make us happy. The clout, the followers, the

status, the stuff, only to find that those things don't actually

bring the peace we're looking for.

Then there's Ruth. Her story begins in loss.

She had just lost her husband. Her future felt uncertain, and

the easy option was to go back home to her own people, her own
1:22
comfort zone. But Ruth, chapter one, verse 16

records some of the most powerful words of loyalty ever

spoken. Do not urge me to leave you or

to return from following you. For where you go I will go.

And where you lodge, I will lodge.

Your people shall be my people and your God, my God.

She chose faithfulness over convenience.

She chose love over the easy road.

And that decision, that one act of loyalty and trust set the

stage for something incredible. Fast forward to Ruth chapter 2

and we meet Boaz. He notices Ruth working hard in

the fields and he steps in. He says to her, do not go to

glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my

young women. He provides for her, He protects

her, he sees her. And this wasn't just a random

encounter. This was God working behind the

scenes, honoring faithfulness and bringing blessing through

someone with a heart of kindness and integrity.

So here's what these passages together are saying to us today.

Life will constantly offer you quick wins, shortcuts,

opportunities that look good on the surface but are filled with

strife, compromise, or chaos underneath.

And the world will tell you to grab them.

Because everyone else is doing it.

Because you deserve it right now.

Because waiting is for people who aren't bold enough.

But God's economy works differently, he says.

Peace is better than plenty. He says faithfulness, even in

hard seasons, lead somewhere beautiful.

Ruth didn't know that Boaz was around the corner.

She just kept showing up, kept being loyal, kept trusting God.

And God met her there. That's a word for someone today.

Maybe you're in a dry season. Maybe things feel hard and

uncertain. Maybe the easy path is calling

your name. But don't give up on peace.

Don't trade your integrity for drama.

Don't sacrifice your relationships for shortcuts.

The God who saw Ruth in that field sees you too.

True blessing comes when we choose peace over drama,

faithfulness over shortcuts, and kindness over selfishness.

That's not a weakness. That's wisdom.

Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for

showing us that peace and faithfulness matter more than

quick wins or flashy opportunities.

When life gets loud and the easy Rd. looks tempting, remind us of

Ruth's story. Help us to choose your path even

when it's hard, to be kind like Boaz and to stay faithful like

Ruth. Fill our lives with your peace,

the kind that doesn't depend on our circumstances, and teach us

to share it with the people around us in Jesus name, Amen.

famine in the land, a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah went to

live in the country of Moab with his wife and his two sons.

The name of the man was a Limeletch and the name of his

wife Naomi. The names of his two sons were

Malan and Chilean Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah.

They came into the country of Moab and lived there a

limeletch. Naomi's husband died and she was

left with her two sons. They took for themselves wives

of the women of Moab. The name of the one was Orpa,

and the name of the other was Ruth.

They lived there about 10 years. Malan and Chilian both died, and

the woman was bereaved of her two children and of her husband.

Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might

return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country

of Moab how Yahweh had visited His people in giving them bread.

She went out of the place where she was, and her two daughters

in law with her. They went on the way to return

to the land of Judah. Naomi said to her two daughters

in law, Go return each of you to her mother's house.

May Yahweh deal kindly with you as you have dealt with the dead

and with me. May Yahweh grant you that you

may find rest each of you in the House of her husband.

Then she kissed them and they lifted up their voices and wept.

They said to her, no, but we will return with you to your

people. Naomi said go back my daughters,

Why do you want to go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb

that they may be your husband's? Go back my daughters, go your

way, for I am too old to have a husband.

If I should say I have hope, if I should even have a husband

She said, behold, your sister-in-law has gone back to

When Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she

stopped urging her. So they both went until they

came to Bethlehem. When they had come to Bethlehem

all the city was excited about them and they asked, is this

Naomi? She said to them, don't call me

Naomi, call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly

with me. I went out full and Yahweh has

brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi?

Since Yahweh has testified against me and the Almighty has

afflicted me? So Naomi returned and Ruth the

Moabite us, her daughter-in-law with her, who returned out of

the country of Moab. They came to Bethlehem in the

beginning of barley harvest. Naomi had a relative of her

husband's, a mighty man of wealth of the family of a

limeletch, and his name was Bose.

Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, Let me now go to the field and

glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I find

favor. She said to her, Go my daughter.

She went and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and

she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging

to Bose, who was of the family of a limeletch.

Behold, Bose came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, May

Yahweh be with you. They answered him, May Yahweh

bless you. Then Bose said to his servant

who was set over the reapers, Whose young lady is this?

The servant who was set over the reapers answered, It is the

Moabite lady who came back with Naomi out of the country of

Moab. She said, Please let me glean

and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.

So she came and has continued even from the morning until now,

except that she rested a little in the house.

Then Bo said to Ruth, Listen, my daughter, don't go to glean in

another field, and don't go from here, but stay here close to my

maidens. Let your eyes be on the field

that they reap, and go after them.

Haven't I commanded the young men not to touch you?

When you are thirsty? Go to the vessels and drink from

that which the young men have drawn.

Then she fell on her face and bowed herself to the ground and

said to him, Why have I found favor in your sight, that you

should take knowledge of me since I am a foreigner?

Bose answered her. I have been told all about what

you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of

your husband and how you have left your father, your mother

and the land of your birth and have come to a people that you

didn't know before. May Yahweh repay your work and a

full reward be given to you from Yahweh, the God of Israel, under

whose wings you have come to take refuge.

Then she said, Let me find favor in your sight, my Lord, because

you have comforted me and because you have spoken kindly

to your servant, though I am not as one of your servants.

At meal time Bose said to her, Come here and eat some bread and

dip your morsel in the vinegar. She sat beside the reapers and

they passed her parched grain. She ate, was satisfied and left

some of it. When she had risen up to glean,

Bose commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among

the sheaves, and don't reproach her.

Also pull out some for her from the bundles and leave it.

Let her glean and don't rebuke her.

So she gleaned in the field until evening, and she beat out

that which she had gleaned, and it was about an EFA of barley.

She took it up and went into the city.

Then her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned, and she brought

out and gave to her that which she had left.

After she had enough, her mother-in-law said to her, Where

have you gleaned today? Where have you worked?

Blessed be he who noticed you, She told her mother-in-law with

whom she had worked. The man's name with whom I work

today is Bose, Naomi said to her daughter-in-law.

May he be blessed by Yahweh, who has not abandoned his kindness

to the living and to the dead, Naomi said to her.

The man is a close relative to US.

One of our near kinsmen. Ruth the Moabite has said yes,

he said to me, You shall stay close to my young men until they

have finished all my harvest. Naomi said to Ruth, her

daughter-in-law. It is good, my daughter, that

you go out with his maidens, and that they not meet you in any

other field. So she stayed close to the

maidens of bows to glean to the end of barley harvest and of

wheat harvest, and she lived with her mother-in-law.
