- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Did he get another one?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, give us on his way back and get out of the house.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: Come on in, let's go again.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: That is, he did it.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: a 40-70 season and a season of life in the other and naturely baseball history from one of the Koenia Junior.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: There's a drive right on the panel.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Evan, Connor, and we're up for a season.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: He is happy.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, it's this one, Connor.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's a liar, but my truck has ripped them all around.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, guys?
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: My truck.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, the sports car CEO is current.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Buff on hand.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_02]: What's up man, I'm running at about 40% today so they got about 40% Bubba today.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm gonna try to give it all I got here boys I didn't think I told Ham last night I said I don't
- 1:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if it's going to happen today.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_02]: We'll hook up this morning and felt a lot better than I felt last night.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: Last night, I was running about 10%.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: So we don't know what I'm doing with, but we're going to make the most of it here today.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I know we appreciate our listeners appreciate by making the effort.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, sitting here's thing that I mean, we have been on a year burner of every single week.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: We have not broken stride.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what I want to say is we kind of kick the show off dude, just a huge shout-out to our listeners.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I really, really, really feel now more than ever like our listeners in this community that we're a part of is really, really special.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: We appreciate you guys so much.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I actually want to before we dive into our weekly round table.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: I want to read this listener feedback that we just got from John.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: John said, hey, fellas, the last pod was so inspiring.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: The more I listened, the better it got.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a small time eBay seller making the transition to a whatnot auction a couple days a week.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: As we all had to start somewhere,
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have any advice for a low-end to mid-tier baseball card sales that a guy like me could use?
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks again for the content and keep up great work.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I got that message and I'm sitting here with like, that's what I love about this.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: We've got guys like that who are hustling and grinding through dollar boxes and eBay sales and what not streams.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: And then we've got other fellow high-end collectors that we've been doing.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: brought on the show and stuff and it's like this it this appeals to a wide variety of listeners and man I just I love being a part of this for that kind of stuff right there.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_02]: No doubt about it.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just really cool this weekend.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: My kids will get into I guess why don't we go ahead and go into our weekly stuff here while I'm doing this since I'm saying this, but but this weekend boys had baseball tournaments and there was a retired gentleman.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: You can tell I mean he's probably 65 75 years old.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know exact age, but he had a little booth little tent set up and I just when I got there.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, man, look at all these kids around the booth.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: Was it got some candy or something?
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: And you get over there and he had a little display cases laid out like three or four card display cases and the cards were low in cards.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I mean, I mean, probably the max dollar card he had in there was 50 bucks and I mean, he just sold card after card after card after card after card.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: at a baseball tournament.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, everybody loves baseball that's there.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: And the kids just see in the kids and how much they got into those cards.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: It just reminds me again of why I got into this.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I mean, I remember that feeling of being a kid and looking at a back at book.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I think my biggest regret with my own kids in this space is how I went from how we started,
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: and then taking it and turning it into his business quick as I did.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's probably my biggest regret because now they're like decensitized to like they look at a car and it's like a, you know, a nice car and they're like who cares.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's like, so that's why I then honestly is my biggest regret.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: But it's what I love about the hobby for kids is they get it.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean,
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: The passion they have for it, you know, and I think that's what always will drive this space.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I think when that leaves, when the little kid aspect of this leaves, I think that's what we've talked about this before, probably 50 episodes ago, Pam, you know, when that leaves the hobby, I think this hobby's dead, but because what continues this space is that we all were that little kid before, right, and there's nostalgia and getting back to that.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I just, I think we have to protect that.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think we need to think about this show how we protect that and get involved with that
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: uh... to be stewards in the space but to answer his question uh... i think the biggest thing i think if he wants to stay ahead and they business side of this not a collector he's trying to do this makes him side money side also money and build a business might and he wants to stay he's got a lower budget of money to spend lower to mid-range cards fine stuff where there's a margin of safety i i think that's the biggest thing no matter what level you're at high-end middle low-end
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: having a margin of safety and have a plan.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, ham, it's honestly what we're doing in our business every single day, so what we talk about, you know, if we go out and buy a card right now, and a card just hit a high comp, and it's a PSA 10, and we go pay that comp.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: Where is that card going from there?
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: If it's a PSA 10, there's no grading elevation available.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: So there's no ceiling available there.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: number one.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: Now the player is hit at all time high and it's card value.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so there's no current ceiling there unless that player absolutely performs on the field.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: And to me, that's a dangerous place to be.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm saying that way, I've never bought that and I've never had success with that because because I have.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think that the advice I would give is try to find grading opportunities, things that you can find lower in that just look clean or it could be a PSA 9 that's misgraded.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: And find someone that says, you know what, I will take 90% on this car because I need some cash or 85% you already have 10 to 15% baked in security into what you're doing.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: So that would be my advice.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: And then try to find somebody that obviously
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: just don't fall in the trap of just buying a buy.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's so easy sometimes to be like, I haven't bought anything in a couple days.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know, find something that you're compelled about, that player and that man, they're underpriced or, you know, why a certain card just sold the same set recently for
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: a lot more and this one's still trading extremely low fine with the value is in that set or that player or that card and so that would be my advice um and number and this is advice I've given before and I just see people not utilizing this so I'm gonna say it again I saw it recently and this is not picking on anybody for this poll because I think it was a great poll.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: I was just stunned by the response on Instagram
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: that the best place to sell your cards is Instagram.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: I find that extremely that it wasn't even close.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I just don't understand that logic.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: Um, oh, there is a time that I think Instagram is the best time to move your card.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I do think there are cases for that.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: There's an argument for that.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: But I also think where people are still not utilizing because the what the way it was put on there was like eBay 15%.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: If you are paying eBay 15% of this point, something's wrong because the consigners are out there that are going to give you at worst.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: 90%.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of times you can get 92, 93, 95.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: And when you're getting that, most people on Instagram aren't coming to you and going, hey, I'm going to bet you 100% of the last count.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: You might have a card that's the case.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: And then if that is the case, Instagram is the place to be.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: But if you can move your cards at 93 to 95% without having, and you don't, you do not have to ship it.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have to deal with, you know, worrying about this, someone pay you and all this other stuff.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's just, so that's my soapbox to start.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: The long-winded, whatever I've been doing lately, our week mat.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: I know that's kind of what we started every week, and I know I kind of went backwards here today.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's all good.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: But um,
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: But from our family standpoint, just baseball, just buying cards, you and I obviously grinding on this card business and what I love about this card business that you and I are doing and this will be the end of my weekly kind of rant is a do feel like baseball right now in Bowman specifically, you got to be in your game.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you, I mean, this is this is not Bowman of two years ago, this is not Bowman of 2025 Bowman 2026 is a battle.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm just telling you right now, I mean, the difference in the sharpness of the market in one year is like somebody went from a six grade education to a 12 grade education.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's really stunning to me.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people holding good stuff still when they do have good stuff.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: They're not giving it away.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: It is hard to track it down.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's just spread all out there when something good hits the market on eBay.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: It is gone.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: So, and it's really, really interesting, and then we're going to dive in this later about this new market.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a little bit scary in a sense, not necessarily the market sharp.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's great, but there's some other stuff we'll talk about later in the show, but just been doing that family time.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, still trying to do the health thing.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's asking about that.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: And when I do talk to people, I mean, I'm just on that grind, man, with that.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's been great.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm staying consistent.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, I'm a human being and my name is Bubba, so I do like to eat.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: I still have a bad moment here there, but, um, you know, for the most part, man, I've been on my game and just trying to just do, uh, what I feel like makes me happy.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, and that's the thing, like, that is one thing I will tell you all last week, Brandon Steinner last week.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: He sent me a copy of this book and I'm sure he sent you one as well, Matt.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: This is the one I started with, was living on purpose.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: book is phenomenal, phenomenal.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: And Brandon, I tell you, we went into that conversation last week.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know him.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't know him.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't really know what to expect.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: Still impressed with that guy incredibly impressed.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: And we all have something to learn from somebody that's lived almost 70 years on this planet and been as successful as him.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: So phenomenal book about life.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's my, that's my plan.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: Ham every day trying to make it a better version of myself.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what we're at.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: So, Bubba, what is your kryptonite when you come, we've got food, what's Bubba's kryptonite?
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: Is it, is it bow jangles, fire piece of cream and french fries, what's the best?
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: The Bubba, the Bubba of his early 20s dude, I mean, I could go to Taco Bell Pizza Hut and slam on many pizza and fire burritos, you know, but I can't do that, I can't do that now.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: So, my honestly, the kryptonite for me is just being busy.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: in nodding and then nodding for long periods of time.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: And then yeah, you just come home and you're like, Son of a, yeah, I don't eat all day, you know, starving.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a bag of chips, a salsa there and you slam a bag of tustitos.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: So that's that's the thing I've got to avoid is just I had to be a little more regimented on when I eat and how I eat.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's what's been successful for me right now is I eat a lot of the same foods and I like them like this morning I had a protein boy when I woke up and I like by the way soft protein bars.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: Have you tried those?
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: This is this is an advertisement by barbell.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: They're barbell protein bars.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: The orange ones are like peanut butter caramel.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: They're like a kink.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: They're like a Snickers bar dude.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: No sugar holy in them.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_02]: High protein really really good and soft.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: They're not like a hard protein bar.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: dude, so good.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so I start most days with that.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: Then I go to my eggs.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: I usually have three or four eggs, I'll cook, you know, and maybe have slices of avocado, and I'm eating a ton of bison, which I think I've told you before, like bison for an evil that don't know about bison.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: is probably the, excuse me, I said, bison elk elk.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: I had a lot of elk elk is the real biggest superfood.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: When you look at the protein content to the fat content, dude, look into elk in this delicious.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: So into my health grant, if any of y'all care, you're probably like what the hell's this guy talking about?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I'm running on, I'm running on 40%.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's like I had a jab myself with some adrenaline here to get through this, so you need a beard and it's going to be like, hi, I'm Bubba for barbell and bison.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: or maybe I know it's state I'm in.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's so good.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: This is so good.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'll kind of fill in a couple of thoughts here.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: I want to answer John's question to back on the idea of how to somebody get started in the hobby.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: I have two things that I think are very important.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: Number one is you got to be willing to hustle.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's a lot of stuff that guys throw away that can make you money.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like guys that rip a bunch of wax and they don't want their singles.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: or people who are throwing out their collections on Facebook Marketplace or, you know, the main shops that might have leftovers and give away cars for free like, if you're willing to hustle and grab those cards and auction them off or whatever like you can start there, but you can't stay there, that's the problem.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to start with the hustle but then you have to level your game up.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so I sent John a private message and I basically told him I said, listen,
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: then step up your game and start dealing with $10, $50 cards, you know what I mean?
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then when you get the thousand, now go deal with $10, $100 cards, you know what I mean?
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: And level your game up.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: So, you put the hustle in early and then don't be afraid to kind of level the game up.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a really strong way for somebody to get started in the hobby.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where most people miss out.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: They go buy a $50 card, not like, oh, this amazing card, I'm a son forever.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, it's probably not going to, I mean, be more than $50 down the road.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, kind of level into stuff that would be, you know, long-term value.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, just a few thoughts there.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, man, on the, on the recap here, you know, big week for us, we went to Dallas Card Show.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it was the first time we've been back in a couple of years.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: It was great to see a ton of people.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I want to give a shout out to Al, Al is a regular listener who came up and, you know,
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: I turn around.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, Hey, I'm out.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the listener of the show and all this kind of stuff.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, if you saw any photos or videos with me, I was on a wheelie the whole time.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I will say this about Brandon Stein.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: I love Brandon.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: I love that interview.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: But he got he handed my asked to me and like I didn't ask for that.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, you're treating me like you're my dad.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like chastas need for gal.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it was like dude relax.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, the mean I, I'm not like, you know, it was so funny.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was so a current actually texted me.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, well, I have an education on gal that I never expected.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: I was like,
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you went a little bit, I went it on the gal thing.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like the sign felt episode where he was attacking me about the, you know, the whole gal thing.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, yeah, I had to, I had to get one of those knee wheelie things and roll around the Dallas show.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the only way I could make it.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, truth be told, I can't explain and not going to belabor it.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: How much pain I was in, like I literally had to take a wheelchair through the airport to be able to get to the Dallas car show.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: And it was very humbling because, you know,
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: And do and keep up with my kid and that's a humbling thing to feel at 44 years old and not something because you're own doing either It was just a moment in time and so I'm better now and moving around and things are good But it was actually man this weekend with the Dallas card show and going through it.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: I went through.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was a very nice humbling reset for me
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: And we had a ridiculous weekend we did really well sold a lot of stuff picked up some really nice grail type cards had a lot of big deals come through but it gave me a real refresher on the market and help me kind of see me through the veil of the hobby that we all love.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: And you start to see the layers in the different verticals within the hobby.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: And you start to see all of the different players.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: And it's really interesting, man.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I have a mindful of dialogue.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not going to sit here in like rant and go on and on about it.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I do want to say this, that one of the things that I really recognize is how polarizing Bowman is in this hobby space.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Bowman is a very polarizing vertical within the hobby and it's funny.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: I was at a table talking to an insurance agent who lives in Alabama or Mississippi and was personally new countergriffin.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: And so we showed him the countergriff in orange.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, dude, this is the craziest coolest car I've ever seen.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's taken pictures of it.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: He's sending it to his insurance buddies who watched this kid play in high school.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, hey, man, you all want to go in three ways on this Connor Griffin orange.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: And he was all into it.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: The dealer beside him goes, he's got as many at bats in the major leagues as you do.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm looking at this guy's case.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: full of crap in B-A cards.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, they were nice in B-A cards, but I'm not a big NBA fan at all, and I don't like the NBA.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, do you understand the NBA is an international market?
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, do you know who she'll say of Tony is?
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, like, I'm sitting here going like, why are you so superior to this person who we're talking about Bowman, we didn't ask your opinion.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: And now you're jumping in wanting to trash this aspect of the hobby that we love.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: And sitting here and I'm like, you know, and he goes, I would never buy that card.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: I said, would you go back and back on Canipple at release?
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: Well, of course I would.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: I said, there's no difference.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: There's no difference.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: I said, it's just something we have conviction in.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: But here's the thing, this hobby, this is big match rant.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: Look, right here, listeners, boom, preach button.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'm going to preach button and I'm going to preach for a second.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: If you have conviction in something, do it.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: But if you don't have conviction in something, don't poo poo on anyone else who does.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I hate about this hobby.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: What gives you the license to think you can crap on
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, if I want to take risk in Bowman and I win or lose, that is my decision.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sitting here, trashing you for buying flawless patches that aren't even game-used, that are just, you know what I mean?
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: Stop this nonsense, people.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, do what you like, do what you win at and celebrate that, but stop knocking anybody else just because you don't understand that aspect of the market.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: preach button off ran over, but that for me, bubble was really enlightening because I still say this, Bowman is the drug that nobody wants to admit that they use because all of these dealers, they dabble in it because they see how good it can be.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then if they get burned, now they trash it forever, you know, I mean, and so it's a really interesting thing when you walk around this this room full of people, and then the people who really get it, they understand it and they have conviction on it, but it's just, I was really, really, really enlightened if you will at the Dallas car show this weekend about that dynamic of the hobby, so anyway, rant over on on that end.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think I think it was a pretty good point that when somebody's out there paying 150,000 B.A.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: car with grandma's quilts patch on there that never saw an MBA court.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a problem there.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, I mean, it's um, it is the frustrating part of the hobby and I think it's something that we've had to learn.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_02]: I think you and I specifically, you know, the last couple months through this whole thing with Connor and everything else has just got a tune it out because...
- 19:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's not going to bring you joy if you listen to these folks and the bottom line is, and this is where you want to be successful in Bowman, you got to do your homework, you got to use your own brain, you've got to look and you've got to have conviction.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: And if you have conviction, sometimes you're going to be right.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: And that guess what, sometimes you're going to be wrong.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: and you got to have a game plan and you got to re-look at that game plan on a weekly monthly basis because Bowman can change overnight.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_02]: Look at a guy like Charlie Condon.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody wanted Charlie Condon.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: I vividly remember all winter long.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody want a Charlie Conn and he's overrated.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: He's in Colorado.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody wants anybody in Colorado.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: Dude comes out and bathed 400 in the spring.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: And now Charlie Condon, people who list in Charlie Condons, the same guys, by the way, some of them, that trash, Connor Griffin's and all that.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_02]: He has a gold for like, I've drank.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and it's just like a PSA nine, the last gold sales, like a 1100 bucks.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: do your homework have a conviction and keep your eyes open because it is it is a personal thing and but if you want to win in this space you better keep you better look at box scores and you better keep track of what's going on because if you don't somebody else's is and the movement will happen quickly and it there is no there should be i think a disclaimer on the front of every bowman box almost like a pack of cigarettes
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: be be where this can be addicting number one can be very addictive, but number two, high return, high reward, high volatility because you're playing with guys that are prospects.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: And if you win, and you hit, and they are good, you're catching something early, just like a stock.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: You're playing in the world of penny stocks.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: You're playing, and then when that penny stock becomes a dollar, and then they become five, and then they become Google, guess what, you make it to on a money?
- 21:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, guess what happens to penny stocks when it doesn't happen, first of them.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: They go down to nothing.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it reminds me of, it reminds me a little bit Baba of the Wolf of Wall Street, the movie.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: It would he's selling the stocks at Investor Center.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, you know, Arrow Dine parts, you know, whatever he's selling all his kind of stuff.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's, that's a lot of the Bowman world.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, you know, you're right, man, it is, it is super volatile, but speaking of that, I want to kind of change gears here and and show a little video that that really brings a little bit of light to what's going on in the hobby right now.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll watch this video and then we'll comment on it.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: Pierre, can you sign up please?
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get caught a piece of it.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: Come on.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, so what that was for those who were just listening to the podcast is after one of his games, Connor Griffin was offering a fan bat, a game used bat of his for a one of one chipper gems.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I don't know what Chipper Jones it was.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm sitting here thinking, Connor Griffin, who is a friend of the show, who's been on this show, by the way, is the number one prospect in baseball is out there publicly trading game used memorabilia for baseball cards.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's where we are in the hobby.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think people recognize this enough.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: The number one prospect in baseball is trading his game use memorabilia two fans for a photo and a one-of-a-one card.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is like fever, pitch, moment in time.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: You got Kevin O'Leary wearing a $14 million or a $13 million card around his neck to the Oscars.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like I won't everybody in the hobby to look around and go, this is the moment we're in right now.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like we have entered Bizarro World and it's awesome for those of us who have been in the space for a while.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, be aware and be alert of what's going on in the hobby.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: So that's like public service announcement.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: The second thing here is Bubba is I think you might need to reach out to Connor Griffin and see if he might wanna make any trades with the sports card CEO.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think we should reach out to Connor Griffin.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna clip this episode right now.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: The sports card CEO would love we got some trades buddy.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: We got we got a stat pool of inventory here that we need to make sure you have eyes on so yeah, it's a it's really cool again for a kid.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: You see kids come to these games and get to see these guys and be able to make a trade like that.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the fact that he brought a chipper Jones want to want and I mean, you almost wonder like didn't reach out to him ahead of time.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I mean, or I mean, how did that how did that worked out.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: Did you know,
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Connor, Connor said on the pod, Chipper Jones was like his favorite guy growing up.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I'm saying?
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: Smart.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: But I can.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, my brain's sitting here going like, oh my gosh, Connor on the pod said he's collects chipper.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if this kid heard that or not, but if the kid heard that on the pod and that's a one one chipper, dude, yeah, I will just find out who this kid is.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's smart, man.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well, dude, talking about like the energy in just baseball in general, kind of changing gears.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I know you're about to bring this up next.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's the WBC world baseball classic in what's been happening there.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I mean, I have historically in the past, not been a huge fan of that.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: I've kind of just been like, ah, you know, it's on whatever.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: This one is really grabbed my attention.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: It really has and it's been been fun to watch.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's been fun to see.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_02]: just the energy around the players having this stuff.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you look at Ronald Acunia and you look at when the when the when US played the Dominican Republic this last week.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the energy was insane.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a world series type energy there and all these fan bases coming around with Italy and the US and everybody, Venezuela, I mean, it's just it's so cool to see it's really good for the game of baseball.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's when every other sport is kind of for a right before now, you know, obviously March Madness starts later this week, what a cool thing for baseball to end right before March Madness and have this moment that's going to happen tonight.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: with Venezuela and the U.S. and it's really cool when you see guys like Paul schemes which honestly being a Pittsburgh pirate you don't get to see him play that much you don't get to see him talk that much and see how much body has for his country and all these guys and so
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: really, really cool.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think really another really good thing for the industry.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: Anytime anybody does anything in these games, people are hanging on the moment for cards and it kind of brings up the trick to our example of years ago.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'm no doubt about it right now.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: When a guide does anything, his stuff shoot into the moon.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think it's really good for the game of baseball.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: I would love to see it be something they did every other year.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: It'd be cool if they would do that.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: No, I agree.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: WBC is funny.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: My boys, it goes back to the point I was making earlier about the fellow who said, you don't understand basketballs in a national game.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, have you watched the WBC?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: Have you seen the Dominicans in the Venezuelans in the stands?
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: Have you seen the Japanese populists in the stands?
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, are you under a rock, my friend?
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because like, the baseball game is an international game.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: you know the mean and like it is crazy because you know what one so-to and what you know of course probably a rod you know bringing it bring it in originally and you know some others but like you look at the you know central and South American you know influence in the game right now and you look at the overseas market like did you see Yamamoto's one of one just did like 450k
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so when you start talking about like the international aspect and the WBC and what it does for the game, I mean, come on man, like we are getting ready to enter into what could be one of the most exciting MLBCs.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not really well versed in the whole idea of the strike or whatever you guys were talking about.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know what all plays out there.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: But it's just interesting, man.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sitting here going, you have a maximum amount of talent.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: You have a maximum amount of young talent.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: And like baseball is in a revitalized state right now.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: And it reminds me of when I was a kid and you had McGuire and Sosa and bonds and griffy and all of that kind of stuff.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: It just reminds me of that moment in time.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: But when bonds and,
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: was going after the record and when McGuire and Sosa were dueling for the record that year, that was some of the most exhilarating baseball, you know what I mean, like ever.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then in a 2000s into the mid to 2010s or whatever, it to me, it lost a little bit of luster like it slowed down a little bit, but now.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: with the judges of the world and the show hays of the world and you know the mean the wits and the guy in the sodos and all the internet to kunea like dude it's vibrant right now so it's making me like dude opening days next week like yeah let's go let's go like the moment is now
- 29:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I tell you, one thing I think that's helping baseball and nobody really talks about anymore because just part of the game is the it's clock.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: Games were just too long.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: Games were just got really, really long, you know, years ago.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: And to be able to go to a game now, there's been times you can go to games and get out there in two hours.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and most of the, we're in a day, ham, and you've got three boys as well that are teenage and younger.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_02]: I see it every day with
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: of YouTube.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: Everything they want to see or hear Google YouTube is right there for a kid to sit down and watch a baseball game for two hours.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, it is like you got to strap them down with a seat belt.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, because they're not used to sitting there.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're used to like, hey, give me the next piece of content.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: Give me the next piece of information.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: And that's how our brains are kind of wire like rats now.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I think baseball
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: enjoyable and quicker and faster pace and I think it's just, I think it's been really good for the game and now you've got these young guys that continue to come up, the guys that we've all been collecting.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's what's so cool about it.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: Guys that we've been talking about now for two and three years and you see them coming up down the line.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: You see Bobby with it shortstop, you know, in the hole, making a backhanded play laying on his back,
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: Baseball's got a lot of really cool people to root for right now, and I, you know, we just hope that my, my Dodgers, which I can't stand by the way, I don't win it again this year, and I think it would be really good for baseball, that we have some new blood there, but WBC, huge fan this year, really excited about tonight, great for the game.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: yeah it'll be it'll be a lot of fun man who you got you got the us a kind of walking home with this you think Venezuela is going to give a good show oh i think it's going to be tight i mean honestly i i don't know that i would bet money on it because i i think it's fifty fifty is way low you're in a game where the amount of passion these guys have i wouldn't be surprised if it is where the wins it uh i obviously i don't want Venezuela to want it but i i think i would give it at least a fifty-bit
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: Who's who's pitching?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's pitching.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: Who's Rodriguez for Venezuela?
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: Eduardo Rodriguez.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: I assume.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: And then I know that the U.S. is pitching a claim who's got a sick nasty curve ball.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, again, I mean, he's a young pitcher.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, in a huge spot.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: So they're asking a lot of him.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I think it's going to be a high high energy game.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of these games have been fairly low we're scoring.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think this one's going to score some runs.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_02]: I say like an eight to six final is what I'm shooting for.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: Well, hopefully it'd be a lot of activity.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: It'd be a lot of bombs.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: I would say this at the night when Gunner hit that bomb, you know, the mean to tell you.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's out of the game.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then from an Anthony came up with a batter later or two batter later and hit a bomb to go up to one.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: Did you're looking like that moment for me was that moment of going like, dude, there's a lot of really good young talent.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then you're not running in the guy.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: But like, it was a moment of like, dude, there's a lot of, there's a lot of really good baseball players in the league right now.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: And you brought up Robin, Anthony, and I'm glad you did.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_02]: I've never said Roman Anthony wasn't a good hitter.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: I just think his hobby value is too high.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: That's all I'm trying to say, keep your eyes up and we're with Roman Anthony.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: Because I don't know that he's gonna be a 30 home run guy.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that I see him being a 28290 guy which is great.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's a phenomenal pieceball player.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe hitting 20 bombs.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't know that the hype's gonna stay there on that buzz.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: I could see him being
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: a blue that does 7,000 or 7,500.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_02]: I can see that card in 18 months being 3500.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's just my reality on him.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, compare those two guys, compare Gunner and compare, you know, Roman Anthony.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, I think Gunner's already shown, you know, to mean that he can be a 30 plus home run guy, you know, and he's half the price half the price.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think Gunner's undervalued right now.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: I do too.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we just picked up a gunner actually today.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I believe in gunner in his market, which by the way, big big sale in the gunner red.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Did you see that?
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: No, I didn't.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, gunner red.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: How long should I go?
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think it did like 50 dude or six or something like that.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're in it a great public.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was public.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: I've never thought of.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, man, it's, it's a fun.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: I will say this about our listeners bubble is we have a lot of listeners and little mats this way, like they are so on it with numbers and comps and knowing exactly, you know what I mean?
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: The guard or elite in the Bowman game.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: are sharp, and they know every comp, they know numbers, they know whatever, and it's like, because I'll meet these guys at a show and like, did you see this?
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, no, I didn't see that.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: It like, little Matt's like, oh, yeah, I saw it.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: Did you see this?
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, I didn't see that.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, I saw it.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's so funny.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so there is something to be said for guys who are elite in this game or just on top of it.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: And that current's talked about that so many times.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: Because people like, oh, if I had your money, I'd have that collection and current goes no, you wouldn't.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: Because it takes a lot of work.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_00]: to know, you know, to mean where these cards are, where to buy them, how to buy them when to buy them, etc.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I know we got a couple other topics.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: We wanted to hit on and want to hit on this one before we get probably the last one here.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and it's what have you done for me lately.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: And we talked about it.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: And we showcase this next week, opening day next week.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_02]: We will be doing that episode.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously next week will be targeted around opening
- 34:41[SPEAKER_02]: We do want to go back in time and talk about predictions when we had Nick Tucker on about where the market was going to go this spring and kind of go back and look and see if we were right or wrong or where that ended up.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_02]: But in the meantime, what I have noticed about this spring and I don't know why it surprises me, but it does just because I feel like this year spring training
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: has meant more.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: It in the past spring training performances have mattered.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you would see an increase in a player or somebody would get on them.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_02]: But what you wouldn't see are these large swings.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_02]: every two to three days of just like exuberance and then flat, exuberance, then flat or exuberance and hate or hate and love.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just like divide of like emotional attention.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: But the what have you done for me lately in this space right now?
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just telling you going into this season.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: There's no, if we think it's bad right now,
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: get ready when the season starts.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to be the ultimate baseball season of what have you done for me lately.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just telling you right now, if a guy is on fire, you were going to see cards go nuclear.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_02]: It is more important this year on getting the player's right and buying the right ape on having the right people in your arsenal than ever.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: Because if you hit on somebody, I'll give you a guy I brought up a weeks ago.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: 80 house, okay?
- 36:11[SPEAKER_02]: No one's talking about Brady House.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: Have you seen what he's done this spring?
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's been like 400, would like four or five bombs.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: He's tattooing the ball, right?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: And no one is talking about it.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you could go buy his cards for literally 50, 100, 150 bucks.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's 499 is probably like 75 bucks, 50 bucks.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: The dude is tattooing the ball.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: If he does this during the season in the middle of an national voter and he gets to where he's having one of these all-star type seasons.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: You're talking about a guy right there that's going to be three four five hundred percent up guaranteed no doubt about it because he's like been this forgotten guy and there's a lot of those players out there to me and I think it's an interesting year potentially buying some of those guys because.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_02]: is 100% going to be if if you have a chance this year and you're rookie of the year mechanical ends up being the guy in the AL he's flying if it ends up being weathered in the NL he's flying if it ends up being you know Connor does get Connor's markets obviously been up and down sideways and up and down and sideways if he does get the call up and he goes nuclear his stuff going absolutely crazy if he doesn't he's going to go down and it's just
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: this market is going to be an insane year on that front.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_02]: And it always has been, especially when we saw what last year, but it is like people are much quicker on the trigger one way or the other these days.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_02]: And so it leads to really what I think to the argument we had earlier about where to sew your cards.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that's where sometimes Instagram does have a leg up on eBay is when there is that hot news that you move that stuff quicker and having that network to move stuff because this quick is that guy is hot.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: It could be going the other way, if he goes over for the next day where people are like, yeah.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: The day before, did you see yesterday went over for free, he sucks, he'll never hit another one.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's the market we're in.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, and it truly is so I just, uh, would not be inside.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think, man, I've said it now for 60 days.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_02]: have your cards that are in your hands by the time that we get to the second week of Major League Baseball season needs to be guys that you think there's no doubt in your mind are going to have a good minor league season or Major League Baseball season if not.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: Do yourself a favor and sell those people even if you're down on that card 10 or 20% and reevaluate because if you're, if you're right in that player doesn't end up being what you thought they were going to be they could be down 30 40 50% and my biggest losses in this space are on guys that I should have taken the loss on when I had it I was wrong I was wrong I missed on them.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I held him and said, Oh, he's going to come back out and do it.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: And when he doesn't do it the next time, he's down big time.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: So into my public service announcement there, and I need to take my own advice, yeah, speaking of public service announcement, PSA, but how are you feeling about PSA these days?
- 39:13[SPEAKER_00]: You and you and Naddy Turner, y'all hanging out having a good time.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just a sad in it and there will be a day and I've said it before and I don't want to I mean this is not the yes a hate show because we all love them when they give us tens right we all love them just the same when they're 10 in this up but
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you don't take care of your customers, you're going to, there's gonna be something that somebody's coming for you in business.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_02]: And that's just the way it goes.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_02]: And they continue not to do that.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_02]: I did see some stuff around Beckett.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I've been hearing more that Beckett is actually, maybe go on the other way.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that's PSA's plan.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_02]: Just strengthen Beckett is this true, number one A1B.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if that's the plan or what they're doing there, but I am hearing that Beckett's actually number one been a lot more realistic on their grades again.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm hearing that they're turnaround times have been quite a bit better.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know, it's really interesting, but if I was a betting man and I could look 10 years in the future, I would say there's gonna be a big, big change in the grading game.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't think that, I don't think bad business continues.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just the volatility of it or the inconsistency, I should say, it's just so radically inconsistent, you know, I mean, and we've had some really, really big wins lately.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, huge wins on a couple of card grades, you know, and at the same time, you know, we had.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: other orders where it's like you got to be joking me, you know thing like we're all pretty knowledgeable we all look at cards and we're not going to send in a card you know if it's a nine ten we're probably going to send it in you know what I mean we we're going to definitely send it and we think it's got a shot but if it's got visible issues you know you're probably not even going to mess with it but when you send in stuff that you don't feel like you know the mean you're not has a shot and it gets a seven
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like this is the this is the big issue and I and this is all for a whole another episode.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: The issue is that every card now that they grade that is below a 10 you get an offer on okay and is a direct conflict of interest and how this is not being written back it is going to be a class action lawsuit on this.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: How can you not give an offer on a 10?
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: but making offer on a nine and then that card end up back in potentially in a 10 slap.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, that from them.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: And a it seems like a direct conflict of interest.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_02]: on their behalf, to be able to do that, and especially when these cards are not serialed, when you get into cabooms and downtowns because they can act under any regard at that point.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: They had to be a little more careful with the serial numbers, but to me, I just, that's a problem.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think you walk a real slippery slope when you're making offers on cards and you're the grading company, and then there,
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: you see that card come back in a 10 at some point and you don't know where that 10 came from to me that's that's that's a problem because I just envision right now myself I envision when I think of PSA and I don't know what you think of when you think about their employees working think about some dudes sitting there
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: with his ear muffs on he's got a sunglasses on yeah he's got a cell phone he's playing gyms or whatever and there's a card he's smoking a mini cigarette low and he's sitting there and he's like a freaking eight and they come sweeping by and oh yeah here's another eight we're gonna get that one it's in baby I mean it's it's it to me literally the pile of cards that these guys have in front of them it truly is a numbers game of PSI it truly is
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: If he has a bunch of Connor Griffin, who's just say he's not going to give it a 10.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_02]: If he hates Connor Griffin, he may smash him.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: Or, oh, I love Bobby Whitt.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: Let me give him a 10.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: I hate Bobby Whitt.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to give that an egg.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: I grew up in Florida.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_00]: I like, I like, you know, I like this team.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to give him whatever.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_02]: And that is the problem with the grading is really you don't know what they ate for breakfast that day.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: and it really determines the grades well and the thing is is it it forces your hand to kind of play the game to send stuff in because it's where the market is right now you know the mean but all you have to do is pay the paper to play the game i mean it you know it feels like to me a little bit and i will not go on this rant it feels like disney world it feels like do you want to ice cream cone that'll be forty seven dollars full
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna charge you $200 to come in our gates, and I'm gonna charge you $50 to ride this ride because you have to get a fast pass.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: To me, I look at it and I have that kind of cynical eye and I'm like, this is just a money machine and they pay it because people are like, oh, I need it.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: I need vacation.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: I need more money.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: I need it.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: It always emases me by us.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I come from a space of coaching, personal coaching, you know, speaking and a lot of what I do is like spiritual coaching, spiritual development.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_00]: I walk with a lot of people almost like a counseling spiritual counseling thing.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you're talking to people about their spiritual health and their emotional health and all this kind of stuff, like they do not want to pay you for that.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: They feel like that you should just do that for free because you're a nice person.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_00]: But if I'm telling you how to grow in five extra business,
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: I can now charge $5,000 for a session because I'm Tony Robbins, you know what I mean or whatever.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: And like you people are so, that's your problem is you're willing to spend all this money on something that you think is going to scale you in a monetizable way, but you're not willing to put any resources into something that actually makes you a better human being.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, another little preach button for Matt, but we want to go ahead and kind of wrap
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: yeah just um just for next week this week it's obviously just kind of a kind of a filler episode between Brandon Steiner and next week's opening day but we are going to come back next week just really targeting again where the market is, where the market where won't be right or we wrong.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_02]: and then next week really start diving in a little bit on what's to come because I think we need that and we need that like okay here's baseball here's that flow but like where is it going from here and I and I we're not going to sit here and pretend today to have all these answers because we don't but I do think it is it's really going to be fun next week to kind of target and say okay
- 45:44[SPEAKER_02]: who are going to be the guys in the next 45 days.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_02]: And we've been trying to target this internally ourselves and our our list has changed quite a bit over the last 40 45 days.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: And so going to be a fun episode next week and and looking to get back at it.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think opening day always brings a ton of energy and we'll have you know, this time of year man is is really
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: the spring and the fall, like we're getting ready to flip over into spring, you know, Easter's coming up and we've got, you know, spring solstice and all the different stuff and you've got, you know, March madness, fall opening day and the masters.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: Over this next, like, you know, in the mean 30 day winter, and like,
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: For big hand bone here like this is mom like yes like and the weather's like yes I'm like I'm coming alive and then the other time of year is like in that fall season When the first starts to get cold and you got college football going on or whatever So like I'm in my happy place for like the next 30 days and so I am going to enjoy it I think I might shave the the facial hair off and just step into spring of a new man I'm actually on the in the middle of a three day liquid fast right now
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm only having liquid for three days and two Thursday, which is the first day of spring or whatever.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like feeling good about it, man.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm feeling good, I'm feeling refreshed, I'm ready to go.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: Who do you have in the college basketball tournament?
- 47:05[SPEAKER_02]: Who do you have when it's all?
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: A man Florida's gonna be really tough and I think Duke's gonna be really tough quite honestly.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think Duke might be struggling with a little bit of health issues right now, but they just play really consistent basketball.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: So is that your pick?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: Is that your pick?
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: I would put Duke, I think Duke and Florida.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know the bracket off top of my head, but I would put those two guys in the National Championship.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_02]: Got Arizona winner at all.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be my pick.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_02]: Got the Zona.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_02]: They've been tested.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: They've been tested man all season.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: They've played a lot of good teams.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have NC State being in Texas?
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: The plan?
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think, you know, as much as I hate NC State Basketball with a deep passion, I do think that they, they, they win.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: And then, I mean, it will be interesting against BYU.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: The thing about state this year is they could get really hot.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: If they shoot the ball well, then they're going to win.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to see them win the game against Texas.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they'll beat BYU.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's a tough draw for them.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, my gut in my heart is not letting me get excited
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's really hard with your Georgia basketball fan like an 8C.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_02]: We're like up top last year.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_02]: We're about the same or like a 10C.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_02]: We play Gonzaga and we're like, oh, yeah, we're going to take them down.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think like the first quarter.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_02]: We were down like 30 to two or something.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the end of our dreams.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just just miserable.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Bubba Man, I appreciate you even at 40% given time to the show and to our listeners.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: For everybody who joins us each week, I can't say it enough.

- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: But that's it.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: Bubba and Ham wrapping up this week's episode of the sports card CEO.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: Peace.
