- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Part of the process comes in when people are trying to drop major amounts of weight.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: A lot of the biggest concern is the hunger, and I've seen many videos people talking about it.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Take it from me.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: I was 365 pounds with a 65-inch waist.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I understand hunger.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I know what it's like to go without eating and then having that insane drive forcing you almost to be on autopilot and end up at a drive-thru or end up eating some kind of processed junk that you promised yourself a thousand times you weren't going to eat, but then you did it anyway.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: One of the things that I suggest is whenever you start on this journey, you really got to plan it out.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: I had to plan out my days so I knew where I was going to be whenever I had the ability to go cheat, to go sabotage my progress.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: And people don't talk about this as much as they should, more than likely, because those people haven't actually figured out or haven't realized what it's like to be incredibly obese and then to try to get a handle on their particular food addiction.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Most of the people and the influencers, and I'm still not where I want to be, but at least I got over the big hump, which you can too.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And I think a lot of the influencers, people talking about dropping body fat, they've really never been there.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: I might have been here and there, but they're not dealing with loose skin.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: They're not dealing with having stretched themselves out to such a point.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: They're not dealing with being such incredible food addicts, which pretty much everything I pick up, I became addicted to.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: It took me time to wean myself off of all those things.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And my saving grace was actually fasting, because that caused me to realize that I wasn't so dependent on the things that I kept convincing myself I was dependent on.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: And over time, I was able to curb a lot of the things that I normally did in reference to trying to fulfill addictions.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: The biggest problem for me, and it still is a massive problem, I gave up the cigarettes, I gave up the alcohol, I gave up chewing tobacco.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: This is all over time.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: The food is still a huge problem because it's so easily accessible.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: It's everywhere and it's cheap and it's plentiful, and I can go anywhere and I can get whatever I want at any time and just eat it.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: The issue is, is I know what happens as a result after.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: I know it's going to halt my progress.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: It's going to stop me from continuing on my journey, at least for a little while.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: One of the biggest saving graces for me was actually realizing that I needed to, when I screwed it up, and that's where I was so often over many, many years, ever since I got to the age after I got done being bullied in grammar school, then middle school, then mid-high, then high school.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: It just kept going on.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Once I got to a point that I realized I wanted to forget it and move on, I had to forgive myself for screwing up and start again.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: It was always the times when I would start to overeat, basically breaking a rule that I had put in place for myself.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Whether it was I'm not going to eat any more chips or I'm not going to have any more ice cream or I'm not going to eat any more donuts.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Of course, donuts are great, but I'm not going to eat any more of those or bagels or any of these high, highly processed, high carbohydrate foods.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: When I would screw it up, it was like, what the hell?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Why not just continue on the path and continue going down this road?
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And then I would see as the pounds would start to come back, and then I would even surpass the place that I had been in the past.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: My suggestion is when you do screw it up, make sure you jump right back on and begin again.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: It's not going to be easy.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: You're going to need willpower to do it.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: You need to plan out your days.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: You need to prepare for the day ahead.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: If you're going to have some event, some party, you're going to have some people inviting you somewhere, some kind of a get-together.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: You definitely want to make sure that you prepare for that, especially if it's going to involve eating something that maybe you told yourself you weren't going to eat.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And I think people understand a lot more with the eating thing than they do the alcohol thing.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I know that's for sure.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: If somebody says, Would you like a drink?
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: How about a whiskey neat or whatever my flavor of the day was?
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: I say, Oh no, no, thank you.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: And I say, Well, why don't you want to drink?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: And I say, Yeah, don't do it anymore.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: So then all of a sudden they started thinking, oh my God, he must have had a major problem with alcohol.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: My problem was my own.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And again, don't care what people think, but my problem was I own was my own.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: I didn't get out there, I didn't get arrested.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: I didn't have any of these massive life-changing events due to alcohol.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: However, I did change it because it just sucked.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: There wasn't anything good I found in it.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: During the time it's great, but after, it's like, God, and it was every time.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: It was like Groundhog Day, every time I drank, and then the day after was just horrible.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: The same thing I needed to wrap my mind around with regard to food.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: I had to realize that a lot of the types of food I was eating, if it wasn't meat, if it wasn't eggs, if it wasn't fish, if it wasn't vegetables, then I shouldn't have been eating and have fruits.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: I throw those in.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: But not very often, they should be more of a dessert, not to really be had all the time.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: But talk to your doctor, talk to your medical professional before you do anything, I say.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: But ultimately, it came down to me actually not eating for an extended period of time and then realizing you know what?
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: All this attention on food, all the world's attention on every event being food-centric, when you're not eating, then you try to align yourself with people that are of the same mind.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: If in fact you're in a group of people and the entire group is based on going to and trying new restaurants, for me that's not a good group to be a member of.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: But if I'm involved in a weightlifting group or a walking group or a hiking group or something of that nature, nature group, even bird watching, these types of groups better serve me.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Maybe you need to switch it up and find what group better serves you.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Something that doesn't revolve around whatever addiction you have.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I know I was a cop for a long time.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: People that have big drug addictions, the big cocaine, the big heroin, the big everything.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Those are big problems because usually they hang around with people that are very much like them.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: So when one of them wants to try to break away because they realize these drugs aren't helping them with any kind of forward progression in life, once they try to move away, they get sucked back in.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: It's the same thing with food, it's the same thing with other things.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: It's funny how I remember when I used to smoke.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: People, when they want to bum a cigarette, I don't know about today because they're so expensive, but I know back and vaping, I don't know how that works either.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you give somebody a drag or a hit off your vape.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: But back in the day, oh my God, hey, buddy, can I get a cigar?
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: We were very happy to help other people out.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: I think because we wanted people to be like us.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: We wanted them to be with us when we were smoking.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: It was a very strange thing.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Food is kind of that way, depending on your circles.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know the other illicit drugs, probably the same.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: People like to hang out with like-minded people.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: If you've been fat for a long time, if you're trying to fix it, if you're trying to move on and get better, you might need to change your group.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: You might need to change your surroundings, you might need to change those people that you constantly hang around to be someone that now or more like-minded with where you want to go.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: I don't mean ditch your family and all that stuff, but if you've tried to succeed and you failed a lot, more than likely those people in your periphery, those people closest to you, they might not really be much uh about entertaining you having another chance.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Because I know whenever I tried to slim down those diets, I was just a prick the whole time.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: I was completely angry until I discovered fasting and saw where that took me.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: It wasn't that I was always just trying to limit myself to a certain caloric content, which to me that was much harder than just saying, yeah, I'm not going to eat any food for this particular period of time.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: And when I do eat, I'm going to eat somewhat normal, not gorging, not going and eating all the processed crap, but the things I talked to you about the meat, the fish, the eggs, and the vegetables.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: That's what I tried to do when I screwed that up, when I ended up in a drive-thru.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: And for a while, it was very much like autopilot.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: I would end up a jack of the box or McDonald's scarfing down as much as I could eat.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Once I realized that that was not winning for me, and of course, I was very hard-headed, very much an addict for food.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Once I realized that wasn't helping, then I was able to pull back and not do that.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: And that's what ended up being very helpful for me.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I hope part of this helps you to see where you happen to be.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: It is willpower, folks.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: It is difficult, it isn't easy.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: With regard to the hunger that's caused by multiple-day fasting, it does get less and less.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: That's just something to know.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: And as far as metabolism, it actually goes up, doesn't come down when you're fasting.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: So that's something to check into as well.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Look at caloric-restricted diets, look at those, the propensity for them failing.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: If you've tried to do that again, another problem.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Look into the ketogenic thing, that seems to work really good for me as well.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe it will for you.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: But again, if you're taking medicine and you're gonna start not eating, you definitely want to want to talk to your doctor because there could be major issues with that because the medicine's gonna start hitting like a sledgehammer versus maybe a ball peen hammer.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: I'm Connor with Honor.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: We will see you in the next one.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: And I know your journey is blessed.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Just continue.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: My journey is far from over.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know where I'm going to end up, but it's a daily, daily grind to get through my out of my head and not eat the junk that I'm still addicted to.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: I'm Connor.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: We'll see you soon.
